Bohus Fortress

Castle
Bohus Fortress, situated on a cliff top, is a 14th-century ruined fortress and former prison that has endured 14 sieges. It played a significant role in the power struggles among Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The fortress holds captivating stories of kings, saints, traitors, and prisoners within its walls. Just a short detour from Gothenburg, this historic site offers visitors the chance to delve into its rich history while enjoying the surrounding natural landscape.
A very well preserved fortress with a lot of Nordic history. From the early Norwegian heritage via the Danish kings and the return to Swedish rule. There are activities for children, lots of historical information and even a nice park bear by (next to the entrance) with kiosk and a restaurant.
Anders K — Google review
Amazing castle with many options for entertaining the kids, even with a bouncy castle. A truly great experience for the whole family! The food cart in the courtyard was closed, so either check beforehand or bring your own food (many picnic places available). You can bring your dog, even inside the buildings!
Michael T — Google review
I had a great day out here, I got there early and it was just bliss. Lovely staff and just joy to walk around. Looks like a great place for kids too, lots of activities around the Fortress.
Paul E — Google review
This is a very interesting place to visit. There is a lot of history which is told on various information boards in both English and Swedish. A lot of walking but well worth it to find out the history of the area near Gothenburg Sweden.
Ted S — Google review
Amazing place. A lot of activities for the kids. Audio guide is nice and includes in the ticket - bring your headset along smart phone. Cafe outside is nice
Moaz A — Google review
Worth visiting! Loved the audio guide that told vivid historical stories selected from its 700 years of drama— I will always remember how the well was dug. Beautiful site. Quick 23-min express bus from Central Station.

Carlstens Fästning

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Carlstens Fästning, also known as Carlstens Fortress, is a 17th-century stone fortress located on the island of Marstrand. It has served as a center of defense and later as a prison for iconic historical criminals. Today, it offers guided interpretive tours and features a banquet hall, cafe, and hotel. The fortress provides stunning views of the picturesque island village of Marstrand and the southern Bohuslan coast.
Outstanding views from the walls. A very well preserved fortress worthy of many pictures. Exceptional when the weather is good. Easily one the most beautiful place in Sweden. We came here during midsommar, we would have liked to visit the inside but we did not have the time, said I would come back to the very welcoming young woman at the entrance but in the end I could not, maybe next time!
Stanislas T — Google review
Great fort with awesome views and history. You need to buy tickets to get around the fort but free to visit around and catch breathtaking ocean views. Neatly maintained and well preserved. Camp, swim and trek. An awesome experience.

Majestic castle on top of Marstands Island. It will take a 2 minute ferry ride from Mastrands Färjeläge. Two way tickets cost 34 SEK per person. No need to buy tickets in advance. Tickets available from the counter.
Raiyad R — Google review
Did not purchase tickets to go inside but the exterior was cool to look at! You can hike around the castle through trails over rocks and look out to the sea! Pretty sweet!
Dominique A — Google review
Ive been absolutely in love with castles, forts and the likes since I was a small boy. This was extremely interesting and informative! The castle is in very good shape (of course only everything made of Rock, there are multiple floors/parts which were made of wood and sadly didnt live to see this day) But they talk about that in the "Podcast" through the castle with 28 1-2min parts. I loved the Story being told, its in multiple languages, including german, which tells you about the forts origin, how much blond and sweat it took to build and what its purpose. The ticket price was 120 Krona (ca. 11 euro) for regular grownups and 100 (ca. 9) for students, which is completly justified, as you have to keep the fort in check. Definetly Worte the Trip! There is also a small place to eat infront of it.
Arias B — Google review
It’s interesting to walk around and explore the fortress. But the fact that it was used as a prison — and that they still display portraits of former inmates — makes you wonder what exactly they’re proud of. +very expensive tickets!!!
Anna Z — Google review
If you love nature and this kind of style , this is the place !!
Bim B — Google review
It was so much fun! I love old castles, tho. Our tour was in Swedish, and I know very little, but even still, the tour guide passed along the feeling and was animated and enjoyable, and Google Translate gave a decent jist of what she was saying. They have tours in English, of course also, but not at the time we were there. Do it if you get a chance. Oh! And I grabbed some viking drinking horns at the gift shop for half price as I had seen them elsewhere.

Great place with a lot of information on Sweden's past history, boats and even Madame de Staël! When I was visiting, there was an exhibition about the ecology where you can learn a lot about recycling; well done, fun for adults and kids.

Very worthwile to visit. There is something for everyone, from kids to adults I really liked the boat section (see picture) and upstairs life how it was in the Bouhuslän-region. Restaurant is ok, shop very nice and very friendly staff! Admission free (can you believe that?)

Fantastic regional museum. Admission is free. Has a variety of exhibits including displays of early and modern history of the area. Also galleries with the work of local artists. Nice cafe, which looks out over the river.

Nordic Watercolor Museum

Event venue
Modern museum for watercolor art in a dramatic fjord-side setting, with exhibitions & a cafe.
Fantastic location, museum and exhibition at the waterfront of the Swedish west coast. Skärshamn itself is worth while a visit , but make sure you include a visit to the water colour museum as well as the well stocked water colour museum shop.
Tom R — Google review
A very nice little art museum with a great restaurant (Vatten). The surroundings are to die for 😍
Henrik D — Google review
Mostly large tempoary exhibitions. There is also a room where you can sit ans draw yourself, a cafe and a restaurant. It's easy to find and has quite a lot of parking, free for 4 hours.
J C — Google review
Beautiful building, although I hoped there will be a permanent exhibition regarding beautiful landscapes surrounding the museum. I came across an exhibition of works by contemporary artists - not connected to the landscape at all), which for me was a drawback. Although I'm not going to judge the works because everyone has different tastes. Overall - definitely worth a visit, well maintained - with café / restaurant and souvenir shop. I really recommend visiting nearby island which is connected to museum area by a bridge ! Views incredible, breathtaking.
Julia Z — Google review
Always interesting artists and well curated exhibits. Adult admission 150SKR includes a membership. Kids under 26 are free. The museum specializes in watercolor artists only. See website for current and future exhibits. Classes are also offered by appointment in museum studios. Pictures from Vanishing Point by Hand Op De Beeck

Good catch — if you’re not entirely convinced by “a striking exhibition” and want something a bit more neutral or nuanced, here’s a revised version that better reflects a tone of modesty or open-mindedness: The Watercolor Museum — it might sound a bit dull, especially if, like me, you immediately picture vaguely painted sailboats or cows. But the visit was fantastic. There was an exhibition on Nordic Patterns, which didn’t have much to do with watercolors, but for anyone who loves Scandinavian design, it was absolutely beautiful. To focus only on that exhibition might be a bit unfair, though, because the museum clearly aims to show — also through its permanent collection — that there’s a wealth of modern and innovative work to discover. And even if there isn’t a temporary exhibition that’s quite to your taste, the restaurant alone is worth the visit, with its delicious food and fantastic view.
Patrick D — Google review
It is an amazing museum for modern art situated by the ocean. A nice restaurant if you want to eat and a little curioshop This sumner was a sculpture and aqvarell exhibition by the Dutch artist Hans Oop de Beek
Jonas S — Google review
First of all, the museum’s seaside location is breathtakingly beautiful, regardless of the time of year when you visit. In the summer, there are several great places on the adjacent wooden piers and cliffs where you can go for a swim and work on your burgeoning summer tan. While the museum does have a popular restaurant and café, from around late June, a half dozen nearby seafood restaurants open up . To be totally honest, as a visual artist, my preconception of watercolor as a medium wasn’t overwhelmingly positive when I walked in to the Nordic Watercolor Museum. But after spending more than an hour there, I now have a totally different opinion and a lot more respect for the artists that paint with watercolors. I was also genuinely impressed with the museum’s curation and exhibit design. Folks, this is a top-notch destination for art lovers of all ages – in a stunning seaside location along Sweden’s spectacularly gorgeous west coast. Highly recommendable!

Havets Hus i Lysekil

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Over 30 aquariums fed by seawater, home to sharks, crabs & starfish, with tunnels & touch pools.
I really liked this place and our daughter loved it. Very informative and educational information. There are a lot of different animals. Fish in all shapes and all other animals that live in the big blue ocean. There's no problem finding all fishes that are in each tank. Each tank is well clean and it was just a fun and interesting visit. There's a small playground inside and a bigger ship shaped outside. She loved both. The only negative is that it is too small. You will walk through it way too fast. But all in all it is worth a visit if you have not been here before.
Fredrik F — Google review
Fun for children and the underwater glass tunnel was nice. The rest of the tanks were smaller with typical Swedish west coast underwater wildlife. The place is not very big but we also did the "seal safari" which was well worth the money. It was actually nicer than the aquarium itself
Al L — Google review
Exciting aquarium for the whole family. Highlights included the feeding time, the toilet aquarium view and a great little museum shop. We didn’t end up eating in the restaurant but it looked like a fine venue too. Perfect for touristing in Lysekil on a rainy day. Has a cute playground for the little ones outside.
Diana V — Google review
A nice find in Lysekil! Although small you get to see a lot of different tanks. Always fascinating to see the beautiful sea kingdom!
Antonis P — Google review
A very small aquarium. A little costly. Not crowded. Has a restaurant. The entrance could be difficult to find. The parking is on either side of the entrance. The back door parking lot is for the staff.
Sivakumar K — Google review
Amazingly good experience, was much to see and learn. And the location was really nice, the aquarium was well kept. Ok prices and this I can with warm heart recommend to experience.

I eat lunch in the restaurant almost every day. Excellent food and nice atmosphere. Especially in sunny summer days when you can sit outside and have a fabulous view of the sea! Photo of the view, not actually the Havets Hus in the picture.

We visited during the few days they are open in the winter holiday, and it was a fantastic experience. There weren’t too many people, so it was lovely and peaceful to walk around the beautiful park. The staff were incredibly kind and took the time to explain and show us things—we even got to see the owls being fed. The animals are beautiful and seem to be well cared for in their enclosures. It’s a truly impressive park, and we highly recommend it!
Clara L — Google review
An amazing experience, showcasing the freedom and vastness of the space, with the enclosures feeling just like their normal habitats. We got to see them in action taking care of the owl hatchlings as well. Couldn't see the snow leopard which is one of my favourite animals but will definitely go again to be able to see it!
Wendell F — Google review
They have a big parking area, nice to walk around with kids , many stations with playgrounds, wc 🚻 and get food or water. The restaurant doesn't offer a buffet ( that I think will make it better ) just pizza 🍕 some swedish dishes . We saw a few animals but the amazing 😍 was the leopard 🐆 And they have a small but cute gif store.
Azrim O — Google review
Beautiful location with amazing animals to see. We had a special Meet and Greet with the Snow Leopards and had a amazing time. Lots of walking, but the walkways are clean and the views are beautiful. We saw snow Leopards, another type of Leopards, tiger, deer, birds, and other animals during our visit. Well worth the trip.
Heidi H — Google review
Nordens Ark is a wonderful place to see unique species like dholes, red pandas, and Pallas’s cats. The enclosures are spacious and well-designed, reflecting the park’s strong commitment to conservation and animal welfare. I really had an amazing experience!
Gyajo L — Google review
It’s difficult to leave a clear review, as my feelings about this place are quite mixed. The park itself is huge and located in a beautiful area. The grounds are very well-maintained and clean, making it pleasant to walk around. There are plenty of restrooms throughout the park and even a small café where you can take a break. The animals look healthy and well cared for, which is great to see — but unfortunately, there aren’t very many of them. For kids, there is also a small playground, which is a nice touch. On the downside, the entrance fee feels overpriced, especially considering the limited number of animals and the overall impression. My personal ratings: • Cleanliness and comfort — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • Healthy and well-kept animals — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • Number of animals — ⭐⭐⭐ • Emotional experience — ⭐⭐ • Price — ⭐⭐ Overall, it’s a place with a beautiful setting and good care for animals, but with a rather high price and not as exciting as expected.
Den F — Google review
We checked both the website and the app, but unfortunately, after an hour's drive, upon arrival, the main part of the park was closed due to the weather. Paying 100 kroner per person for a mediocre petting zoo simply wasn't worth it.
S K — Google review
Really nice "zoo" that focuses on animal health and comfort. Its not garanteed to see any animals, that makes every animal you do see more special

Piers & Boardwalks
Quaint village with seafood restaurants & shops, known for its painted buildings & sea vistas.
Lovely stroll on a wooden broadwalk by the sea. This place is ideal for just strolling around, admiring beautiful small houses, maybe stopping by to eat some seafood (there is plenty of restaurants). We have been there on late August and there were not many people so the strall was quiet, but I can imagine it can get pretty crowded during high season. Parking is for free after August 15.
Cyntia P — Google review
Beautiful place with an amazing selection of cafes and restaurants, walk along the harbour and a great kids park
Annabel E — Google review
Good views, some shops and restaurants for a decent 3 - 4 hours including a meal. This place looks pretty much set up for tourists and therefore slightly pricey. On the whole it is enjoyable.

Wojciech Z — Google review
My most colorful place award goes to this village. My intention was to seeing there only 1 hour and then continue but after I started get lose along the small colorful streets of here I spent 4 hours more and then didn’t want leave and decided to spend the night here as well. It turned out to be a great plan.

Best beer in town .. if you don’t tast it you miss it..
Matthias C — Google review
Beautiful and quaint seaside town. Charming with its small colourful wooden houses, and boats of various sizes. Fantastic views from up on the rocks, we were really lucky we had such amazing weather. Out of season, perfect with no crowds whatsoever, I have seen pictures of summer season, where the promenade is packed with people... not a fan of that.
Lijodo10 — Google review
Overcrowded more then usual, and the standard has really dropped here from the fist time I was here 15years ago regular visiting. This use to be a classy area, with big boats in the million class, high price food.. a real La Dolce Vita zone, now it's just people with boats randomly gathering up playing loud music and drinking their heads of while tourist in hundreds walk by on the bridge. Glory days are over for this area in a long time.

Vitlycke Museum

After visiting the beautiful Elgåfossen waterfall, we continued our journey with a 30 km drive and stopped for lunch at the Tanum shopping area. From there, it was just another 5 km to reach one of Sweden’s true historical gems: the Tanum World Heritage Site and Vitlycke Museum. Unfortunately, we arrived just after the museum had closed for the day at 4 PM, so we couldn’t go inside. But luckily, several of the ancient rock carving sites are located outdoors, on the hillside overlooking the museum. We followed short trails through the forest, each just a few minutes’ walk apart, and visited six fascinating sites. These rock carvings are incredibly interesting and date back to the Bronze Age, around 3,000 years ago. They include depictions of people, animals, rituals, and boats. In fact, while looking at one of the carvings, I suddenly realized where the design on the Swedish 50kronor banknote comes from , it’s taken directly from one of these ancient boat carvings! That little discovery added a whole new layer of connection to the place. It’s easy to imagine that thousands of years ago, when the landscape was more open and less covered in vegetation, these carvings were more visible and widespread. Today, many may still be hidden beneath soil, moss, or lichen. Overall, visiting this mysterious and ancient place left a deep impression, a strange and powerful feeling, as if walking through whispers from the past. A must-visit for anyone who loves history, nature, or simply discovering the unexpected.
Abbas G — Google review
Free entrance for students and kids, nonetheless the entrance for adults isn’t too expensive and it’s okay. The museum itself was inside and was really beautiful, you can go around the museum and directly to the outside if you just wanna see the carvings, but all the explanations in the museum are really well made, showing artefacts found in these sites and similar and it’s really informative. I actually learnt a lot about these kind of carvings thanks to the museum.
Dylan F — Google review
Nice little museum. Carvings on the other side of the road. Also more to see down the road

Great little walk to the rock carvings. There are more in the area so if you have a day to spend, it is a good way to do it.
Sneezy F — Google review
Amazing. I really recommend visiting during the annual Bronze Age festival in August!
Eva S — Google review
A good mix of activities and information about life in the bronze age, keeping children in mind. The village outside gave good insight into both building designs and structure and also into the challenges of the times. The cave paintings are only a short stroll away.
Friederike ( — Google review
It is an amazing place with Bronze Era rock art. Huge pictures on stone surfaces. A lot of places, big area. It is comparable with Alta Rock Art Museum in Norway. Really recommend to all people, especially for those, who likes such places. Be ready to walk long distances. BTW, there is a good cafe))) Unfortunately, they don't have mugs with stone pictures in their store)))
Valentin — Google review
Make sure to check the tour and activity schedule before your visit. We visited this UNESCO site a few years ago and had a very memorable experience. At the time, the museum was under renovation, but we joined a guided tour to the large rock carvings, which was fascinating. The activities at the Bronze Age garden were also engaging and enjoyable — great for both adults and kids. This summer, we returned with visiting friends, hoping to share that same great experience. Unfortunately, we arrived a bit too late and missed the last guided tour and all the activities in the Bronze Age garden had already ended for the day. We ended up only visiting the museum exhibition, which was a disappointment. The exhibition alone does not justify the ticket price — there’s very little to see beyond a few artifacts and mostly text-heavy information boards. Unless you’re a hardcore Viking enthusiast, I wouldn’t recommend visiting just the exhibition room on its own.

Rock Carvings in Tanum

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Rock carvings site with more than 350 diverse groups of art & motifs dating from the Bronze Age.
It’s so good that you can go to the rock carvings anytime in the week and you can get there with no entrance fee. Thanks to that we could see the carvings in the late evening and it was really magical.

This was well worth the visit. You have free parking at the Museum and then cross the road to the Rock carvings. The carvings are interesting, however the walk up the rocks and the serene surroundings make it well worth the visit. There is no entry fee to visit the rock carvings however there is a fee to see the exhibition in the museum. This can be a good second stop if you are visiting smögen.

Very nice place. There is a free parking area close to the museum. You have to cross the street and there is a rock with carvings. There are more rock in a short walk (150 m from the main rock). It was very nice to see. There is information available in each rock both english and swedish.

Great place found by accident. Ancient farm with alsorts of great attractions. The talks about the paintings were brilliant. The lady doing the talk spoke great English and was v engaging. We missed the bronze casting which was a shame and was to late to look round the farm. Bravo, fab family attraction. My boy and me loved it.

Väderöarna

Island
Nature & Parks
Go as far out in the archipelago of Bohuslän, there you will find The Weather Islands. A beautiful oasis in the middle of the ocean. You can travel here all year around - summer, autumn, winter and spring. Their fast and comfortable boats will pick you up at either Hamburgsund or Fjällbacka and you will arrive safe and sound at the islands. Väderöarna is really worth visiting.
Trond B — Google review
Stunning vistas and a very cozy atmosphere. All the people working here will do everything they can and then some, truly above and beyond. If you get the opportunity to visit make sure you do.
Sara B — Google review
We paddled over from the mainland in a twin kayak which was a bit of a trek but so well worth it! The islands in the archipelago are beautiful and full of birds. We were lucky enough to see a seal too. On the main island there's a restaurant that makes interesting local food. There's also a lot of hiking to be done. When we went out was quite full of Norwegians on yatchs and boats which is why we ended up going to one of the smaller islands in the south for the night.
Elisa S — Google review
What a beautiful place and it feels like in the middle of the ocean - no cars, no scooters, no noise - just beautiful nature on this peaceful island. The Hotelrooms are basic but designed with good taste. The Restaurant is surprisingly high in quality for such a remote area. All in all, 100% recommendation to go!

A week in this picturesque Swedish island and I was in love! The fields, the sea, the sailing, the delicious seafood, the coastline cafés. It is a writer-slash-café-starter’s dream! My imagination soared. I was a tortured heroine in a literary novel, escaping her lurid past, only to rediscover joy in unexpected ways. I was also a rare ruby gemstone in a chest full of diamonds. That’s how I was treated the entire time I was there. I’m not narcissistic. In fact, I’d rather fall under everyone’s radar at all cost, but I felt special in this trip. And my short stay at an idyllic beach house with a view of fields bursting with bluebells and azaleas? LOVE. I haven’t forgotten this Café Girl run. Hope to recapture it next year!

(Translated by Google) A great place to visit and explore. You cannot go much further west in Sweden. Cozy accommodation with a sea view in one way or another. Many rocks to sit in the morning or evening to watch the sunrise or sunset. Many different birds to see or why not try crab fishing. Good with access to sauna and hot tub if the sea bath does not appeal. Delicious good food.

Fredriksten fortress

Mentioned on

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the charming town of Halden, Fredriksten Fortress is a remarkable 17th-century structure steeped in military history. This impressive stone fortress spans an expansive area and features various elements such as storehouses, bastions, and deep passageways that invite exploration. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape while wandering through its well-preserved rooms. The fortress also serves as a vibrant cultural hub, hosting events and festivals throughout the year that bring history to life.
A must see in Halden, a big place with history, legends and spectacular view over Halden and surrowndings. There are enough parking places, a golf spot, a museum and you can drive the car right next to the fortress. It has a lot of places to see, you can see some rooms and it is so well preserved. They organize events there.

Fantastic Fortress in the top of the mountain in Halden with great panoramic views of the surrounding area. It is extremely difficult to believe that battles were fought here! Even harder to believe that a Swedish king died there! Bring comfortable clothing and good shoes. The walks can be difficult and the acess to some areas hard. Good parking! Extremely recommended!
Luis L — Google review
It was early morning when I arrived here. The color of the roofs, perfectly suited for mid-October, was lovely, and the atmosphere was wonderful. I felt like a Norwegian soldier guarding the fortress, as if I had stepped back to 1807. Though it is now a symbolic fortress protecting Halden, its spirit was very much alive. It was even better because the most delicious and magnificent "Restaurant Curtisen" is also located in Halden. When I return to Halden, I will visit again and have a delicious and dignified meal at "Restaurant Curtisen". Wait for me, "Restaurant Curtisen."

Nice calm historical place. If you like abandoned castles and fortress with rich history this might be the right place with stunning views from top.
Muhammad B — Google review
The fortress is a remarkably well-preserved and impressive example of 17th-century period architecture. Built by Denmark-Norway after the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, it carries both historical and cultural significance, standing as a replacement for the lost Bohus fortress. Named after King Fredrik III, it not only reflects the military engineering of its time but also shaped the identity of the nearby town, which bore the name Fredrikshald for centuries. Walking through its grounds today offers a unique glimpse into history, with its strong walls, commanding views, and the sense of resilience it represents. It remains a beautifully maintained site and a valuable monument to Scandinavian heritage.

Such a gorgeous little island. Very easy to get the ferry to from Strönmstad and fairly cheap too. It was a beautiful hot summers day when I went. There was only 2 restaurants where we got off on the island (North Koster) One of the restaurants was actually a hot dog/pizza stall. So be warned. But it was lovely to walk around.
Olivia F — Google review
Ferry to the islands and back was 280 SEK but it was fun. The island was quite nice with some wonderful scapes, a fantastic view and great trails to walk through. But there are lots of tourists in the main season of course, that was a little too stressful at the ferrys and main points
Flix — Google review
Beautiful islands with incredible beaches, hills and forests. Perfect for spending a day or even staying a little longer and exploring by foot. You can arrive at one ferry port and depart from another, so you can walk in pretty much any direction you want. Just be mindful of the time schedule.
Anthony S — Google review
Nord-Koster and the ocean surrounding it is a great experience. The trail around the Nord-Koster island has a lot of different micro-landscapes, a rich bird life, and nice view towards the ocean and the sunset if you choose the right time of day.
Erik P — Google review
Not our favourite national park, but at least good. We payed 280 SEK for the ferry (round trip means return ticket btw). The ferry goes approx. every 2 hours. It took 4 hours to go around the South Island where the most part consists of the National Park. The yellow way was not very interesting, the red one at the coast was beautiful and the mini coral reef is really worth looking. This was nr 17 of 30 national parks for us. We recommend Skulleskogen for a more natural coast area.

Certainly! Nordby Shopping Center offers an array of dining options, from Scandinavian cuisine to international fast food chains, making it a great place to take a break and savor some local flavors or grab a quick bite. The mall is well-maintained and provides ample parking, ensuring a hassle-free shopping experience for tourists. It's not just a place for shopping; you'll also find entertainment options, like a cinema, which can be a fun way to unwind after a day of shopping. With a friendly and multilingual staff, Nordby Shopping Center is a welcoming spot for tourists seeking a mix of retail therapy and cultural exploration in the Swedish-Norwegian border region.

“Gusto delikatesseavdeling” Yesterday we bought two types of salads to try, as it was our first time buying from this place. When we got home and started tasting them, we had to immediately spit them out and rinse our mouths — the salads were clearly spoiled. Upon closer inspection, the packaging had a strong sour and rotten smell. This is by far the worst food preparation spot in the entire shopping center. It’s honestly shocking that they’re even allowed to operate while selling spoiled food. I would never recommend anyone to buy anything from there.
Brigita K — Google review
Definetly try to go here on weekdays, otherwise it's quite crowded. I recommend using the roof parking on the far side next to Maximat and shopping your food there, the "Nordby Supermarket" is not as good from my experience.
Marcus H — Google review
Pretty decent mall, its quite large and has a nice selection of stores, though it's more long than wide so you will get some exercise, but that's probably normal with a mall of this size. Has some restaurants in the middle, some fast food joints nearby or inside and a smaller food court upstairs, so you do have a lot of options. It has free parking too.

Nice but not very bright, flashy and modern theme park for the kids and adults who are train lovers and wants to see mini models of towns and cities and trains running between them. With every ticket, kids get free waffel or hotdog. I found it was located at a bit congested location. Many visitors cannot move freely that makes the experience a bit bitter.

Very clean public fitness center which has indoor swimming pools with water slides, steaming room, sauna, café, gym, eating area serving pizza, burger, fries, drinks, ice cream etc. Very friendly and help staff. All areas are very clean and tidy. No bad scent and well kept place and good place for family and friends friend weekend visit. There are also available 3 hours and 1 day free parking places with permit card right around the place.
ExinMEDIA B — Google review
The slides and pools were great and fun for kids, but we felt the spa options were quite limited—especially for toddlers. Hairdryers were weak, so it's a good idea to bring your own. Sauna choices were fewer than expected, and the showers felt a bit awkward. Since we visited during the holidays, it was very crowded, and the changing rooms were often messy—understandably, as not everyone cleaned up after themselves.
Kristina P — Google review
Always nice place for a bath. The options in pools is great and should have something for everyone :) Food is also good.
Kim B — Google review
Great place to spend time with family and friends. Clean water, tidy place and neat everywhere. More than 5 separate pools for different ages and activities. Jacuzzi and sauna also present. With Bigger slides for adults and smaller slides for kids. Parking, Cafeteria, advanced locker and shower area, they do sell swim suit, cap, Goggles and flipflops. But less staffs and unable to contact them at ease. Overall excellent place.
Raji B — Google review
Great place to visit with families, swing, eat, relax, spa. Much fun for the kids. Nice service. Like the new lock system. No need to bring own lock. You might have problems if you forgot something and need to exit building due to the new lock. But not a problem. The price is a bit high for a family to visit, unfortunately. Go a bit later to avoid crowded guests. Will be back☺ hope they will set the price lower for families.
Nhan A — Google review
I was disappointed to visit this swimming pool. The whole complex looks rather old, not modern at all, starting with lockers and showers, to the three tube-slides and the pool itself, with not very clean and clear water, no tiles on the walls or bottom of the pool. Lots of children visiting the pool (main one, unfortunately) and jumping into it from the springboards and the diving tower, making a lot of noise and blocking all lanes but ONE for those who want to swim. After kids are gone, still only two lanes are available for swimming. The two saunas (one dry and one damp) do work, but again, are old-fashioned and not really pleasant to visit. There is a nice warm-water small pool and a Jacuzzi outdoors, worth recommending, though.
Cyprian C — Google review
Honestly best pool for kids and grow ups, i haven't found such fun pools in Oslo area, everything you need they have, highly recommend to try at least once with family.

A short stroll from the wharf you'll find a full-scale replica of the Saga Oseberg ship moored in the harbour. A former 1850's military fortress & batteries on an island in Oslofjord accessible by ferry.
A stunning quiet way to spend a couple of hours here to explore the island. Essentially it is 2 mini islands linked by a small bridge. The north side is a scenic spot to take instagramable pictures the other is where the fortress is located. Small museum in the fortress itself. Good to spend 1-2 hours here. Free to enter just buy the ferry tickets
Mervyn P — Google review
Great experience. I travelled independently whereas most people seem to go as part of a tour. Had a chat with a couple of friendly guides who were most informative and justly proud of the brave Norwegian garrison who sank the German cruiser Blucher. Good museum within the fort itself and no restrictions on access to the Fort guns which defended Oslo so well in April 1940. There is also a hotel on the island again with friendly staff. Highly recommended.
JOHN A — Google review
Deep history, stunning views. My deep respect to colonel Erikson for his courage and bravery in 1940. Sad that the museum looks as if it is stuck in time. At that, the fact that the fortress is free to enter is an important indicator that the museum regards keeping the memory as its main task

Historic 19th century island fortress, famous for the sinking of the German heavy cruiser Blucher. Set in a very beaufitul location in Oslofjord, accessible by ferry. Interesting museum, including a video display of the fateful sinking, with a display of heavy artillery pieces in their emplacements around the grounds. Nice island to stroll around and enjoy the fantastic views.

Visited during Day trip to Drøbak. Museum appeared unmanned and all displays are only in Norwegian, so would recommend use of provided audio stations or google lens. Top experience – Rusalka, 2025. The music and orchestra were so beautiful > it was beyond anything words can describe. The acoustics of the main hall were designed with expert consultation, using oak paneling and wave-like surfaces to create world-class sound. The architecture > I love how it lets visitors walk on top of the building, blurring the boundary between structure and nature.

Went here to watch Eugen Onegin (Russian Opera), not sure I'm a huge fan of Opera though. But I can't rate the location low because of that! It's very nice inside, spacious and feels modern yet classic! Will come back to see maybe a Ballett instead. On the downside, the seats are very straight, and offer very little legspace, for me 195cm it was hard to find a good position to sit in for the almost 3 hours the play lasted. Therefore i give this a 4 only

The city’s landmark, probably the only building here that actually looks interesting.

You can't visit Oslo and skip this architectural beauty. Worth all the time you can spend there.

A bit busy and bit dirty but an great place to visit would go again you get an amazing view of the city and buildings when you climb the opera house only downside would be the amount of birds but it’s understandable as it is location is near the sea

I was here attending the opening concert of the Oslo Jazz Festival. The concert hall's acoustics were outstanding, perfectly complementing the modern, stylish interior. The rooftop terrace offered a stunning panoramic view of the city.

Museums
The Fram Museum in Oslo is a captivating destination that showcases the 19th-century polar exploration ship, Fram, and features exhibits on various expeditions. This renowned vessel was utilized by the legendary explorer Roald Amundsen during his historic journey to the South Pole. The museum offers an immersive experience with northern lights shows and informative displays about Arctic and Antarctic explorers. Visitors can also enjoy a panoramic view from the top of the ship.
A real highlight of our visit to Oslo. The museum is amazing and the ship is awe inspiring. On entering the museum you receive a handy checklist of 4 things not to miss, which is essential if you're in a hurry to catch the ferry back to central Oslo. Don't miss the trapped in the ice experience or the second ship (through underpass) and the Flight to Remember film. Easy to get here on the number 30 bus or the ferry.
David P — Google review
The Fram Museum was a great surprise. The ship itself is the main attraction and you can actually walk on board and get a sense of how tight things were during the polar expeditions. There’s a good mix of history and hands-on displays, so it never gets boring. The lighting and sound effects inside help set the atmosphere without feeling like a theme park. It’s both interesting and easy to follow even if you’re not a big history person. Worth the stop for sure.
Andrei A — Google review
The Fram Museum is a fantastic museum with a lot to offer. It takes you on a complete journey of the most thrilling of the Arctic expeditions of the 19th and 20th centuries. Being able to board the Fram is incredible and immersive - with audio and visual FX used to try and show you the surroundings that you would see if you were on this ship. One problem I had with this museum is it almost has too much information at your disposal. I found that going around, I was bombarded with different aspects of the history but the structure of the museum meant that I was confused as to where I was at in the timeline or why things had happened. I think it would be great if the museum was better laid out, maybe by starting by first introducing where the quest for exploring the Arctic came from and the people and expeditions that came before the Fram. Now this information actually does exist, but it exists in the tunnel that you find on the left as you enter, but I didn’t go down this path until after visiting the Fram. It would’ve been great to have this context before being thrown into the Fram expedition immediately. Another thing is that the first thing I started reading is about the boat Polar Station going to the Arctic soon… this didn’t feel as organised as it could be to me. It’s a weird thing to say that there’s too much information here, but it was difficult to retain information and consider it throughout the whole exhibition when it wasn’t laid out in a chronological way. Aside from this, the museum is really incredible. I recommend this for people of all ages!
Sam P — Google review
Great museum. The main attraction is Amundsen's polar ship, the Fram. The ship is beautifully presented and can be viewed both inside and out. The rooms below deck are particularly impressive. Lots of information boards and films explain all the details of the expeditions. Absolutely fascinating and, for me, one of the best museums in the world.
Andreas S — Google review
Amazing visit, we just wanted to find a place for our visit in Oslo, never expected the museum. It turned out the museum was amazing and the polar expedition related story and knowledge totally grabbed our eyes! We enjoyed the time and had a lot of fun there.

This was a really interesting find. We hadn't planned it but found it when we went on the Hop on Hop off bus. Really interesting and different. Knew very little about Artic or Antarctic exploring and this museum just presented it all so well. Really very interesting.

We enjoyed the flight simmulator a lot. It was something different. Great to see the inside of ship and how things used to look and work. History is very interesting. Would recommend visiting this museum

Incredible! You can certainly get a good feel for everything about the Polar explorations and exploits if you only have a few hours. However for a comprehensive learning experience you can spend all day. My last visit was just the Fram and Kon Tiki, 6.5 hours total.

The Viking Ship Museum is a captivating display of three 9th-century Viking ships and an array of artifacts recovered from burial chambers. Over a millennium ago, Vikings used these longships as the focal point for elaborate ceremonial burials, interring various items such as food, drink, jewelry, furniture, weapons, and even dogs for companionship.
It was super awsome. Very modern. The staffs were friendly, very informative, and speak multiple languages too. Unfortunately the museum was very small. For my family who is always eager to learn about history,we expected more to see.

What a great museum! Only a 30 min train ride from the main station in Copenhagen. The boats themselves, the supporting educational material, and the boatyard are all worth the visit. They even had great food. 🙌👏

Wow, this museum was awe-inspiring! The building itself is not very large, but the artifacts inside really do a great job of using the available space. The Viking ships themselves have been preserved very well. The other artifacts expand on the historical knowledge and understanding of the time. The Viking Ship Museum is a must see if you are in the area!

Great place with tons of history on display. Great findings from an era long gone. Ferry ride is lively also. You’ll need a bit more than an hour to wonder around. One of the most interesting things to do while in Oslo.

The most amazing artifacts I have seen. We spent the entire day here because there is so much to see. An original village, ships, and art. So beautiful! I would love to live in the neighborhood surrounding the museum! —2016

The Viking Ship Museum was amazing. Three 9th century wooden boats - it’s amazing they have survived! I loved every minute I had here, and got some amazing videos as souvenirs. I learned a lot about the Vikings and consider this museum a highlight of my trip Oslo.

Incredibly serene and beautiful. The ships are restored and laid out as though they sailed in. The exhibits are well organised and the information is very comprehensive. For me the projected video of the Viking raid and ship burial is jaw dropping. Such an incredible layout and building. Very much recommended for anyone with an interest in Viking history.

The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History is a vast open-air museum that features an impressive collection of medieval buildings and indoor exhibits showcasing culture and lifestyle. It is one of the largest museums in Europe, offering visitors the perfect opportunity to explore Norway's rich history in a day. The museum showcases a stoic stave church built in AD among other notable attractions such as The National Gallery, The Viking Ship Museum, and the Nobel Peace Center.
Walk through decades and centuries of historic Norway at this fabulous museum. There are so many buildings to see, all from different eras. Admission includes an optional, 30 minute guided tour. Afterward, visitors are free to explore the property inside and out at their own leisure. I loved every minute. We spent a few hours, but could’ve easily spent an entire day. Highly recommended.

A fantastic day spent watching dancers, seeing artifacts and learning about Norwegian culture and history. Kind people great exhibits and lots to see. I’d say go on a weekend when they have more crafts people on staff. We visited each building cluster and the exhibition halls. We loved the variety of historic structures on display.
Corey — Google review
We originally came for the guided tour of the stave church, but unfortunately the museum had listed the wrong time on their website. We were quite disappointed when we arrived to find the tour had been moved an hour earlier. However, the staff immediately stepped up and arranged a private tour with Elise, and honestly — it turned out to be the highlight of our visit! Elise was absolutely wonderful — warm, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the church, the museum, and daily life in old Norway. She shared fascinating details with such genuine passion that you could tell this isn’t just a job for her; it’s something she truly loves. She even mentioned she wrote her master’s thesis on the subject, and it shows in every story she tells. Guiding us while wearing her beautiful traditional Norwegian bunad, she brought history to life in a way that was both deeply informative and heartfelt. Her ability to connect facts, folklore, and cultural insight made the experience unforgettable. If you’re visiting the museum — ask for Elise. You won’t regret it. She’s the kind of guide who turns a simple visit into something truly special. We’ll definitely be back next time we have friends visiting Oslo! 😍🙌

We really enjoyed our visit here. It’s such a beautiful and interesting place. There are many old houses and buildings that were moved here from different parts of Norway, and it’s amazing to see how people lived in different times. You can walk through homes from centuries ago and then see newer ones where you notice the big changes in design and interiors. I also loved that dogs are welcome here — it makes the visit so much nicer if you travel with your pet. There’s even a playground for children, so it’s a perfect place for families too. We spent several hours just walking around and enjoying the atmosphere. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Oslo! 🇳🇴🏡🐾

Fun place to explore, especially the open-air village. You can walk through different time periods just by moving from one building to the next. One of the highlights is the stave church - it looks like something straight out of a fantasy movie and it’s even more impressive up close. The staff are friendly and don’t mind answering random questions. It’s the kind of place where you unexpectedly end up staying longer than planned. A really good visit.
Andrei A — Google review
Such an incredible museum, so many structures from throughout Norwegian history, endless interiors dressed for the specific period. There’s also 3 large exhibitions. And you can see actors dressed up in traditional wear whilst they do folk dance and music. So much to see, I actually nearly missed a lot of it!
Holly C — Google review
The one thing as a tourist I wanted to see, was a Stave Church. I imagine this museum would be utterly fabulous in sun/dry/snow. Unfortunately we had torrential rain but it was the only time we could visit. I was still so happy to see the church - there are lots of interesting & beautiful buildings on the site. We loved it.

Museums
The Vigeland Museum, located in a former industrial setting, is an extraordinary and atmospheric museum showcasing the exceptional collection of sculptures, woodcuts, and drawings by renowned Norwegian artist Gustav Vigeland. The museum presents various sculptures and models created by the artist, including concepts that are now part of the iconic Vigeland Park in Oslo. Visitors can explore several rooms housing these remarkable works, some of which depict Vigeland's visions of heroes from sagas and Eddic poems.
Every year in December on the first Sunday of advent, the Vigeland Museum invites everyone for a free day at the museum. Complete with Christmas workshops for kids and guided tours in the apartment of Norway's top sculptor - Gustav Vigeland. The museum is Vigeland's former studio and residence, provided by the city in 1921 in exchange for all of his artwork. His ashes, self-designed bronze urn and burial monument are located in the tower of the museum.

Come to this museum before heading to the park! You'll get to see scale models, plaster replicas, and learn about Gustav Vigeland's process on his sculptures. It is much more fascinating to see about his works and what went into them before seeing the larger than life sculptures in the park. The Museum has all original works of Vigeland made from plaster, bronze, granite, marble, and including sketches. Scale models of what the park, and sculptures placements should have been. Worth the entry, and free with the Oslo Pass!

Fascinating museum containing the largest collection from Norway’s finest sculptor. Really worth a visit especially if you are intending on visiting the sculpture park as many of the designs used there can be seen throughout the development stage. Very interesting to see the development and maturing of vigeland’s work whilst his motifs and themes remained the same throughout !
Connor M — Google review
Incredible museum, all the sculpture work is incredible. The building is amazing too, make sure to visit the park nearby too.
Matthew H — Google review
I have never heard about Gustav Vigeland before my trip to Oslo, and I was really impressed. This museum is completely dedicated to this splendid artist. Vigeland Park, which is very close to museum, is the cornerstone of the whole life of sculptor. So if you have seen the park, which is totally free, you have seen almost all you can look at in this museum. But there are more works there, which are not related to park, some pieces of information. Though this all is pretty expensive if you visit this museum without Oslo Pass.
Roman M — Google review
Entrance is included with the Oslo pass. We visited after visiting the park and it was interesting to get the story behind how the park happened and learning about Vigeland's process and history. Not a lot of people here when we visited. The museum is a big square, so you can just follow it around in a loop, and it's all one level. We spent about 45 minutes here.
Casey S — Google review
I visited the Vigilendo Sculpture Park for the first time 24 years ago. It is a place worth visiting twice in a lifetime: in youth and in adulthood. It is also worth visiting the Vigilend Museum, the former workshop of the artist, where the sculptures were born, located next to the park, once in a lifetime. A great idea in the museum was a contemporary art hall with changing exhibitions. A special experience was a guided tour of the sculptor's living quarters and a visit to the mausoleum, which we booked spontaneously.
Eurika B — Google review
I found the Vigeland Museum quite interesting. The sculptures are truly impressive and beautifully crafted, offering a unique glimpse into Gustav Vigeland's artistic vision. I spent about an hour exploring the exhibits, and it was a captivating experience.

The Vigeland Park, located in Oslo, Norway, is a sculpture park and museum that showcases the works of renowned Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. The park features over 200 granite and bronze sculptures by the artist, including entwined lovers, elderly couples, babies, and beggars. One of the most famous pieces is 'Sinnataggen' (Little Hot-Head), depicting a child in a bad mood.
One of the most beautiful and well-maintained parks I've ever seen, and the statues by a famous Norwegian sculptor make it even more unique. Indeed, the statues are so interesting and detailed that you can spend half a day in the park looking at them. The grounds are large with benches, paths, cafes, a small Oslo museum and more. It was a pleasure to walk there. One of Oslo's calling cards. Deserved. Be sure to visit

This is a truly beautiful place to visit. It’s perfect for a peaceful walk, relaxing, or just take some time to think. The sculptures are amazing — all created by one artist, which is really impressive and gives the park a special atmosphere. We visited in autumn, and the colors of the trees made everything even more stunning. The mix of art, nature, and calm vibes makes this park one of the highlights of Oslo. Definitely worth visiting! 🍂🌳🇳🇴

A really interesting place to walk through. The sculptures are everywhere and you kind of end up noticing new details the longer you look. It’s a quiet spot even when there are lots of people around, and the layout makes it easy to wander without any plan. The big monolith in the center is impressive up close. Good place for a relaxed walk, photos, or just sitting for a bit. Worth stopping by if you're in Oslo.

Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo, Norway. Gustav Vigeland 1869, born as Adolf Gustav Thorsen, was a Norwegian sculptor. Known for his power of creative imagination and in his productivity. He created Vigeland installation and made Frogner Park into Norway's most popular tourist attraction, leaving visitors with a unique experience of sculptured human forms. The Frogner Park, with a clean, green and gorgeous flowers, is a large outdoor setting for picnics and walks. Naturally, their is no fee to enter the Park. Don't miss a visit if you can.

In my opinion, one of the five most beautiful works of art ever created by Europe and its people. Proof that Europeans, as a civilization, are far more advanced than all the others in these times when engineers and doctors are being brought in from countries where people don’t even know how to use a toilet. Fascinating.

The Holmenkollen Ski Museum, established in 1923, is situated at the base of the iconic Holmenkollen ski jump. It is renowned as the world's oldest ski museum and a significant sports arena that has hosted ski jump competitions since 1892. The museum showcases the history of sport and expedition skiing, featuring a ski simulator and offering breathtaking views from the top of the tower.
Good: ✅ The highlight is definitely the jump tower! Museum admission includes a diagonal elevator ride to the top of the ski jump tower. ✅ Great cafe located in museum lobby—admission not required. ✅ Excellent gift shop adjacent to museum lobby—admission not required. ✅ The lower portion of the ski jump hill is an amazing piece of infrastructure—admission not required to view and/or explore. ✅ Friendly staff at museum front desk. ✅ The museum displays are first class. I’m not particularly a fan of skiing, but it was still an interesting museum to explore. In summary, there is nothing bad to report. For me, the appeal was certainly the free exploration of the lower portion of the jump hill and the (paid) trip to the tower top. I likely would not have visited the museum on its own, but that’s not to say it’s not a great museum—because it truly is. It simply depends on one’s interest.

I absolutely have to give five stars to this museum! The visitor experience is top-notch. The way modern technology is seamlessly blended with the exhibits, along with natural background sounds like animal calls, made my visit truly memorable. There's also a fantastic view from the top — and in the summer, you can even ride the zip line! Highly recommended

Great place to visit and easy to get to on Metro with a station in the town. Check weather first though as there was a lot of hanging fog (especially as it is very high up) when we visited so disappointingly we had no view from the top. Jump is impressive though.

Very historic site but our purpose to go there was to do the Zipline. The museum is very nice and you learn a lot about the first expeditions to the artic and what it took to get there plus the Olympics as two events took place here sky jump and biathalon. After we looked around we made our to the top for the best view of Oslo there is and the Zipline. It's a short but fun Zipline and is worth the price we paid. All the staff were very nice and we had a fun time. We were on a cruise and the excursion come here but you don't get to go inside and do anything so we did it on our own and would recommend

Very nice museum; well kept, clean, and informational. Relatively small for the cover charge, but the trip to the top was well worth it. Phenomenal view. A really enjoyable bit of history about Norway and skiing with a good chunk about polar expeditions, and a really cool collection of skis.

The Holmenkollbakken Ski Museum is a fascinating stop that beautifully captures Norway’s deep connection to skiing. Located right beneath the iconic ski jump, the museum offers an engaging journey through over 4,000 years of ski history — from ancient rock carvings to modern Olympic achievements. The exhibits are well curated, interactive, and rich with stories that bring Norway’s winter culture to life. Combined with the panoramic views from the top of the ski jump and the nearby zipline, it’s a must-visit experience that blends history, sport, and breathtaking scenery all in one place.

Beautiful especially with the snow in pure blue sky not a cloud around Difficult access for older or people with a disability from the train station without a vehicle 10 to 15 minute uphill walk steep incline. Holmenkollbaken ski jumping hill, Oslo, Norway. It is an Olympic size ski jump that hosts international competitions. Though it was prepared for 1952 and 1968 Olympics but overtook all the lacunaes by 1975. This place also has a ski museum and a tower that offers breath taking views. Upon our visit during July 2025, some of us opted for the Zipline, after paying for it naturally, and had a 'mind blowing' experience as they later claimed. The vehicle picked them up, on the way, when we began our trip backwards.
