Blue Lagoon

Outdoor Activities
Blue Lagoon in Pagudpud is a serene and picturesque beach destination located at the northern point of Luzon. With its sparkling clear aquamarine waters and powdery white sand, it offers a tranquil atmosphere perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. The beach is known for its calm and clear waters, making it ideal for various water activities such as surfing or riding the Banana Boat.
Great looking lagoon! Feel the breeze and enjoy the nature's best located in the northernmost of the Philippines ❤️ We stayed here in Blue Lagoon for one night. In the morning, we witnessed a very calming sunrise that can be seen in the horizon of the lagoon. You'll get to see the windmills too located on the mountain top. If you enjoy both water and landscapes, this is one of the best looking place to visit in Ilocos Norte. This location is perfect if you would also like to visit Bantay Abot Cave and the famous long and winding road of Pagudpud Viaduct/Bridge.
Heide G — Google review
Blue Lagoon will always be one of my favorite beaches. The first time I visited, the place was full of life—resorts were open, tourists were everywhere, and the beach was vibrant and well-maintained. It felt like one of the best destinations in the north. But coming back now… it feels completely different. The once-busy shoreline now feels like a ghost town. Most of the resorts are closed, only a few are still operating, and the energy that made the place so special seems to have faded. Nakakalungkot. The community here has been hit hard—very vulnerable sila sa extreme weather. Because of the frequent storms over the past years, it’s become harder for the locals to maintain the area and keep businesses running. Still, the natural beauty remains—the beach, the waves, the view—it’s all still there. But it’s clear this place needs support. I hope someday it bounces back, because Blue Lagoon deserves to be experienced at its best.
Janu P — Google review
You’ll get a beautiful photo angle on the way down to the beach. The view is stunning—the water is crystal clear and blue, and the sand is fine and white. A picture-perfect tropical spot!
Igo R — Google review
Absolutely stunning sunrise viewpoint—watching the sky light up over the calm sea was pure magic. The beach is clean, peaceful, and blissfully uncrowded—a perfect spot to relax and soak in nature’s beauty. The atmosphere is so serene, it feels like a private escape. However, while the water looked inviting, our swim was cut short by tiny fish that gave little surprise bites—not painful, but enough to keep us from staying in too long. Still, the overall experience was fantastic and incredibly refreshing.
Diana G — Google review
The time me and my cousin arrived had a sunset! It was so beautiful that i forgot to take a picture lol 😂 and the ocean water was so cold that a wave even showed up and it even dragged me into the sand! And here are the photos :

Nice place, but can't enjoy because of the storm. The upper resort is looked like been bankrupt. How sad to see it's close
Rose C — Google review
The utmost northern point in Luzon! Tucked in a hidden valley with windmills and nice beach front, this spot is perfect for beach bum and people who love serene! No entrance fee required but need to put on sunscreen of course to avoid sun burn! Lol Nice feeling be in an awesome place like this, the beach known as “blue lagoon” since its water is perfectly in different shades of blue. The seafront is facing South China Sea, Taiwan and westwards Hong Kong. I couldn’t say anything more with this place! A must try when you are in Ilocos!
Jay A — Google review
Arguably one of the best beaches here in the country. We came here on a Friday Morning (10 am and stayed until 2 pm) and the beach was relatively empty! We were the only ones there for a few hours. There were many different amenities including food stalls, cottages, restaurants and souvenir shops. However, most of the resort is abandoned so accomodation is a bit of a miss. Still, the beach itself is the main selling point! Cool winds, strong waves and pearl-white sand makes this a must-see in Pagudpud.

Bantay Abot Cave, which means "mountain with a hole," is a picturesque natural wonder in Pagudpud. The cave was once a tunnel through a headland covered in lush vegetation, offering stunning views of the rocky beach and strong waves. Unfortunately, an earthquake in the 1980s damaged the cave. Despite this, it remains an enchanting spot with its lustrous vegetative cover and echoes of waves and bird chirping inside.
Nice spot for picture! Aside from the rock itself, there is a spot where in the sea will serve as your background. No activities at all. Nice spot for picture only. Entrance is P20/head.
Kristine C — Google review
We arrived here on a high tide so we were unable to see the hole on the cave. We werent also able to get down to the shores because the waters high and the wind was a bit strong. The shoulder is big enough to be used as parking space and there's this big sign for photos. No fees.
Belle — Google review
Lovely place,I had fun looking at the view. But I would suggest being really careful on the way because it gets really hot when going there but then when you're near the cave you need to be careful on where you're stepping or you might trip if the rocks are wet. You also need to be careful when going up the cave because it's steep. Overall I would recommend it to young people or people who are fit enough when going up the cave
Jlo G — Google review
Our visit to Bantay Abot Cave in Pagudpud was a refreshing and memorable experience. This natural rock formation with a hole in the middle looked like something straight out of a postcard. The view from the cave was stunning—you could see the waves crashing against the rocky shore and the endless stretch of blue sea meeting the sky. Even though the walk to the cave was a bit rocky, it added to the adventure. The breeze was cool, the sound of the waves was calming, and the whole area had a peaceful vibe. It’s not a place for swimming, but it’s definitely worth the stop for the scenery and photos. Bantay Abot Cave is one of those simple yet beautiful spots that really leaves an impression.
Tin L — Google review
Such a beautiful cave. Hoping to visit again this place in Ilocos Norte. 🩵
Dahlia L — Google review
The cave is easily visible from the highway, making it a quick and scenic stop. We didn’t have to go up close to appreciate its natural beauty—it’s impressive even from a distance!
Igo R — Google review
Bantay Abot Cave offers fantastic photo opportunities, particularly the unique rock formation with a central hole that's undeniably Instagrammable. However, the slippery conditions demand extreme caution when walking. Adding clear signage about the hazardous footing would significantly improve visitor safety.

Waterfalls
Nestled in the heart of a lush tropical forest, Kabigan Falls is a breathtaking natural wonder in Pagudpud, Philippines. A 120-foot cascade of cool, fresh water flows into a serene basin, inviting visitors to take a refreshing swim. The trail to the falls winds through rocky terrain and dense foliage, offering an immersive experience in one of the country's few remaining virgin rainforests. Guided tours lead hikers on a 1.
Cold crystal clear waters..u have to hire for a tourguide altho treks are very obvious u will not b lost going up but its their living so just think u helped them by getting one:5pax.not allowed to cook up there.bring packed food.keep it clean no littering.easy climb.

100 entrance fee each person with a 10mins trek going to the falls. Refreshing cold water will welcome you.
Ysa D — Google review
Easy trail to waterfall however must be able to climb steps up and down, and cross log footbridges. Must stop at entrance to pay small fee and a tour guide will lead you in and out. Less than 1 mile round trip.
Jackie T — Google review
The water is so refreshing to swim. Free of charge. Has to walk 5 minutes from parking. Tour guide most are senior and you can pay as much as you want.
Lly 9 — Google review
The falls themselves are quite nice and the water is cool and refreshing, perfect for a swim. However, you are required to hire a local guide to take you there, and the fee felt a bit expensive for what it was, especially for a solo traveler. The 30-minute walk to the falls is easy and goes through some nice rice fields, but the mandatory guide policy was a bit of a downside for me. The experience was good, but be prepared for the extra cost.
Arzz P — Google review
This could be hiked by different ages. We went here with my parents and kids ages 2,3,5 and 8. The entire hike going up took about 30-35 minutes. There’s some water with rocks to cross so prepare to get wet. I managed to save my sneakers from being soaked but you have to be physically jumping from one rock to the other. Our guide was very helpful assisting the kids and my parents. Lots of shades so even if it was hot it wasn’t that terrible. The entire place is very clean and not trashed. It was well worth it. Will come back to hike this trail again. The kids loved it.
Shiela G — Google review
A wonderful place that one should paid a visit. My tour guide was Maam Jenny, she is a housewife and very energetic. We came here around 2:30 in the afternoon. You have to pay 200.00 for the whole trek. Its a 15min walk and trek. At the end you will find the magnificent water falls, Kabigan from its name Kaibigan then changed to kabigan which means to attract! Strike a pose and off to go for swim or not! Lol
Jay A — Google review
Very nice place, you can swim in it if you want, it's very refreshing. Be careful it pulls you towards the waterfall. There is a changing cabin. Only 15 minutes to walk. You need a Tourguide to go there. The guides are already there and waiting for you😊 I don't got a ticket and they count me 100 pesos.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Patapat Viaduct is a 1.3 km elevated concrete bridge that offers stunning views of the Pasaleng Bay and connects the Maharlika Highway from Laoag, Ilocos Norte to the Cagayan Valley Region. It was built to address landslides and vehicular accidents in the area, providing a safe passage along winding coastal mountains.
I’m so glad this place is far from the city. It feels untouched, peaceful, and full of natural beauty. Parang reward siya para sa mga taong willing maglakbay just to see something this special. Not everyone gets to experience a place like this—and maybe that’s a good thing. Kasi places like Patapat Viaduct deserve to be preserved and protected. Hindi siya para sa lahat, kundi para sa mga marunong mag-appreciate ng ganda ng kalikasan. The view, the sea, the road curving along the mountains—everything feels surreal. It’s one of those rare places that make you feel small in the best way. If you’re lucky enough to be here, take it all in—and help keep it the way it is.
Janu P — Google review
The scenery never fails me as an Ilocano. I brought a friend with me (Taiwanese) and he was really amazed by what the North can offer. The beach is stunning and the viaduct is as astonishing as ever.
John D — Google review
The Patapat Viaduct, located in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, is a scenic coastal bridge that connects the northernmost part of Luzon. It harmoniously combines engineering and nature, offering travelers stunning views of the West Philippine Sea and surrounding landscapes. Beyond being a functional roadway, it has become a landmark that represents both progress and natural beauty in the region.
Anthony S — Google review
Road-Bridge-Aqueduct-Seawall, you could really appreciate public construction that is well made, planned and built to last.
Vincent G — Google review
Driving along the Patapat Viaduct felt like a scene from a dream where the mountains kissed the sea and the winding road seemed to stretch endlessly into the horizon. It was one of those unforgettable moments where nature and man-made beauty came together perfectly.
Hansel P — Google review
I love the scenic view especially at sunset, and i even visited that place again after 6 WHOLE YEARS! Plus, it's even more fun with my cousin (ofc she invited me)
LeynardxPlayz_ Y — Google review
Today, my wife and I suddenly decided to hop on our motorcycle and ride. No itinerary, no packed bags, just the desire to go somewhere and breathe. From Aparri, di namin namalayan na nakarating na pala kami dito. This roadtrip wasn’t something we planned — it just happened. This place has a nice view of the sea and tourists usually stop-by to take pictures. Include us.
Robby O — Google review
The last time I visited this place was back in 2001. I didn’t really appreciate it back then since I was still a kid. But now, I’m truly amazed by the beauty of the view. If our relatives hadn’t come to visit us here in Ilocos Norte, I probably wouldn’t have had the chance to see it again. Highly recommended! The craftsmanship is top-notch—truly a Marcos signature. A lasting Marcos legacy!

Saud Beach Resort and Hotel

Saud Beach Resort and Hotel is a tranquil retreat nestled along a pristine white sand beach with clear blue waters. The resort offers air-conditioned rooms for a comfortable stay, and for those seeking luxury, the spacious Saud Resort provides an inviting option at an affordable price. With 24-hour security, guests can relax in a secure environment. While the internet and cable services may not meet city standards, disconnecting from urban life is part of the charm of this remote destination.
It is always a great experience being here. The staff are always attentive even though their number is not sufficient to the number of guests. They will always go out of their way to please the guests. While the internet and cable are not really excellent by NCR standards, is it not to be connected is one of the reasons going to this far flung resort in the north? This is my fifth time visiting this resort since I first set foot in early 2000s and every visit is a different experience.
Johnmuel M — Google review
Back again after 10 years. Come here December-June when the waters are crystal clear and cold. Aside from the floating seaweeds, this has been a go to place for Ilocanos. Lots of trees and breezy place. Picnic Cottage is Php700, quite expensive for 2 but cheap for a crowd of 7-10.
RD M — Google review
Beach front is beautiful and not crowded. Friendliness of the staff can be improved as well as the amenities.
Sarrah E — Google review
The location of the resort is perfect because of the sunset view but other than that the resort is nothing special at all. The nightly price here is the same price we had in a nice luxurious beach resort in Bohol and that is way more nicer than this resort! No shower heater in the bathroom. We ordered sinigang na hipon and paid like 360+ for it but the ingredients are only shrimp, eggplant, lots of green chilis and the soup. The room is pretty okay, tv is good too and it's a smart tv but still the price here is overpriced. Also this resort is perfect for people who likes stars at night and looking for shooting stars and we saw one but its not safe because there's stray dogs around the area and we were just sitting enjoying the night sky then these three dogs came running at us luckily my boyfriend did a great job scaring them away. This will be perfect if they kept stray dogs on the cages, its really nice here at night but security is so low. There's no even real security guard there and we feel unsafe sleeping there because one of the reviews we read here said that they got robbed. The resort have potential, I hope they will do something about the issues in their resort 5k per night is not that great the other resorts beside it is like 3k per night but they have live entertainment, security and nice cafe. Overall its still nice because we get to see a great sunset view, clear sky to look at stars and a shooting star
Eciale S — Google review
I never grow tired of visiting this beach. No wonder I have visited this place again within 2 months. Pagudpud in general and Saud Beach in specific fills my heart always.
Rangarajan N — Google review
Saud Beach is the perfect getaway from the bustling city! This resort is surrounded by many trees that give that beautiful nature vibe. The beach is astonishing! The waves were very strong, making Pagudpud stand out from other beaches, that's why they call it the "Boracay of the North"!
The P — Google review
April 2019 || 📍Saud Beach Voted as the most beautiful beach in Asia and best of the beaches in the Philippines! You'll definitely enjoy the warm tropical sunshine, azure blue skies, the most stunning turquoise blue crystal clear water and sparkling white sands here! The very best thing is that there are not too many people on the beach. No jet skis, no strip of seedy bars, no noise, no pollution ❤️ #BoracayOfTheNorth #BoracayAsItOnceWas

We got robbed. We checked in on 25feb2020 and our room got broken into around 4am 26feb2020. Room9 deluxe. Very terrible and scary experience. To think that individuals were able to get into our toon when we were asleep and most vulnerable. I strongly do NOT recommend this hotel.

Bangui Windmills

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled along the stunning shores of Bangui Bay in Ilocos Norte, the Bangui Windmills are a remarkable sight that beautifully marries nature and technology. This impressive wind farm features 20 towering turbines, each standing at an astonishing 230 feet tall, stretching over a scenic 9-kilometer coastline facing the West Philippine Sea. Built by NorthWind Power Development Corporation, these windmills not only contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also play a vital role in rural electrification efforts.
Another overdue review! I visited Ilocos in November last year, and one of the places I got to see was the Bangui Windmills. It was a bit far—I had to drive a couple of hours from Vigan City to get there—but it was definitely worth the trip. The view was amazing! Seeing the windmills lined up along the beach was such a cool and unforgettable sight. The wind was strong, the air was fresh, and the sound of the waves made the place feel peaceful. It’s a great spot for photos, relaxing, and just enjoying nature. There are also some locals selling souvenirs here for a good price.
Diana G — Google review
The Bangui Windmills in Ilocos Norte are not only a source of renewable energy but also a remarkable landmark showcasing sustainable development. Standing tall along the shoreline, the turbines create a striking view against the sea and sky. The site offers visitors both a scenic experience and an appreciation of clean energy efforts in the Philippines. It is a modern attraction that complements the region’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
Anthony S — Google review
Has a super hot weather during summer season but refreshing, through a beach and amazing view of a huge windmills. Worth a visit! Accessability to shops and food restaurant.
Kristina L — Google review
We were super excited to visit the Bangui Windmills, pero unfortunately, during our visit, the area was under maintenance. Hindi kami nakapunta sa buong site—may mga restricted spots lang na pwede puntahan, which was a bit sad. Pero we totally understand—safety first naman talaga. Sayang lang kasi we were looking forward to getting up close to the windmills and taking photos. Still, seeing them from a distance was already impressive. Hopefully next time, open na ulit yung full area. It’s still a must-visit spot when in Ilocos!
Janu P — Google review
My wife and I suddenly found ourselves here, riding our motorcycle all the way from the town of Aparri. It wasn't planned at all, and we were extremely exhausted. You can’t go directly inside where the windmills are; you can only reach up to the gate area, where rows of vendors are lined up selling souvenirs and food.
Robby O — Google review
What a beautiful scenery! It felt like I am touring around summer in the middle of July. Such a great attraction, will definitely come back.
Kristabel E — Google review
Im truly blessed and thankful to have been to bangui windmills. Its a destination every filipino must visit. Its a mere 10min walk from kai haven where we stayed. There are no fees or local guided needed so please be mindful of your garbage and do not litter because the place is so clean. Lastly, i strongly suggest to wear a life vest when swimming because the beach is super deep

Geologic Formations
Nestled along the stunning coastline of Burgos, the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation is a breathtaking natural wonder that showcases the geological artistry of Ilocos Norte. This striking limestone formation, with its pristine white color and unique shapes, has been sculpted over thousands of years by the relentless forces of wind and water. Accessible through invigorating hikes or horseback rides, it offers visitors an unforgettable experience amidst nature's beauty.
Peaceful and beautiful scenery. You can either walk or ride a horse (for a small fee) to reach the scenic area. The rocks are truly white, making the view even more stunning.
Terence T — Google review
Nice place. Just that it was too hot and there were too many tourists present as well. Riding the horses cost only 100 pesos, and then you have the option to get print outs of your photos for a separate price. What I also liked was the presence of guides on specific spots especially on the rocky area. She was volunteered to take our photos and made sure the people who were on the rocks were safe.
Kathleen D — Google review
This is my second visit (last time was 2012) Before we were able to just walk to the Rock formation but now we were ask to ride a horse. Maybe this is not mandatory but the rock formation feels farther than 2012 A good spot to take a photo of the windmills as well. There are so many souvenir stores.

The Kapurpurawan Rock Formation in Burgos, Ilocos Norte is a natural wonder shaped by centuries of wind and waves. Its striking white limestone structures highlight the beauty and power of nature’s artistry. The site provides visitors with both scenic landscapes and a sense of tranquility, making it a remarkable destination that complements the cultural and historical attractions of Ilocos.

truly beautiful and peaceful. The surroundings were very pleasant, and one particular rock near the beach caught my attention—it was incredibly attractive and unique. The natural beauty of that rock made the whole experience even more special. It’s a perfect spot for those who love nature and serenity.
Ibrahim S — Google review
A scenic and unique experience! Beautiful natural spot with stunning rock formations and a backdrop of windmills. You can either walk to the rocks (around 10 to 15 minutes) or ride a small horse for a fee, which adds to the fun. There’s also a small entrance fee to access the area. The path is mostly rocky and exposed, so bring sun protection and water. Also it gets extremely windy in the afternoon and can be very hot in March so secure your hat or cap! If you go between 4–5 PM, be cautious around the waves — they can get quite strong and scary near the rocks during that time. Still, it’s a great place for photos and a short nature adventure if you plan your visit well.
Roxy A — Google review
One of the Philippines best for me as a domestic traveler who’s been all over the Ph! 🤍 i love how unique this place is! It’s honestly kinda underrated. Although it’s really complicated to come here if you’re from Metro manila. It’s too far but definitely worth the thrill! They don’t have an entrance fee. •Horse trail - better area and scenic views (₱100 back and forth) •Walking trail - nice area with little scenic views (₱0 free) I suggest you do horse riding to see the other side of the rock formations. Better bring with you an umbrella too cuz it’s too hot. Make sure you also don’t fall for tourist traps like: -people taking photos of you and then later on ask for money
A V — Google review
Visiting Kapurpurawan Rock Formation is like stepping into a natural sculpture gallery carved by time and tide. Located in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, this stunning white limestone formation—its name derived from "puraw," the Ilocano word for white—stands proudly along the rugged coast, shaped by the wind and waves of the West Philippine Sea. Once you arrive at the site, you’ll need to walk about 10 minutes to reach the main rock formation. The trail is gentle and scenic—you’ll pass what looks like a grapevine area and several souvenir stalls selling local handicrafts and keepsakes. For those who prefer a more laid-back approach, you can ride a horse to get closer to the rock formation (which adds a nice touch of adventure), but we chose to walk, allowing us to soak in the calming sea breeze and the rhythmic sound of the waves. The rock itself feels otherworldly. Smooth, white, and sculpted naturally, it almost resembles a frozen wave or a monument of ancient times. Because of its unique beauty, Kapurpurawan has been featured in local films and tourism campaigns. Nearby, you'll also see a wind farm and a statue of Lam-ang—an Ilocano epic hero—adding cultural and mythological richness to the site. Whether you're there to marvel at nature’s artistry, take striking photos, or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, Kapurpurawan offers a peaceful pause and a moment of awe in the midst of a rugged coastal landscape.

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse

Mentioned on
11 lists
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Ilocos Norte is a national historic site built in 1892. It is located atop a hill and boasts of brick walls, typical of many lighthouses in the Philippines. This Spanish colonial structure is one of the highest elevated lighthouses in the country and remains functional to this day, guiding ships that enter Philippine waters from the north.
Visiting Cape Bojeador Lighthouse was such a nice experience! The old Spanish-era lighthouse stands proudly on a hill, giving an amazing view of the sea and nearby landscapes. The place has a rustic charm, and it feels like stepping back in time. It’s definitely worth a quick stop if you’re exploring Ilocos. 🌊⛵️
Anthony S — Google review
You will have to walk up stairs to get there. I payed ₱50 for the entrance fee. The tower is not accessible, they have it closed for public. Their watcher says it’s still being used and they use solar energy. The view is nice
A V — Google review
Amazing place to visit . They have volunteer photographers that would take your pictures there. Tipping would be nice after. They are really good at taking pictures!
GEN P — Google review
At first, I was hesitant to visit Burgos Lighthouse, knowing we had to ride a tricycle and make a bit of an uphill trek—but I’m glad I didn’t let that stop me. The journey turned out to be more than worth it, especially once I saw the breathtaking views of the West Philippine Sea from the top. Perched on a hill in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, this lighthouse—also known as Cape Bojeador Lighthouse—is the oldest functioning lighthouse in the Philippines, built during the Spanish colonial period in 1892. It was originally constructed to guide ships coming from the northwestern part of the archipelago toward Manila. Today, it still stands proudly as both a historical monument and a scenic viewpoint. Inside the compound, you’ll find some preserved nautical items (likely old navigation tools, lamps, and photos), which give you a glimpse into the maritime history of the region. The stone and brickwork of the structure also reflect Spanish-era architecture, adding to the charm. But truly, it’s the panoramic view from the lighthouse that makes the trip unforgettable—vast seas, strong winds, and the horizon stretching endlessly. It’s both calming and majestic, and one of those rare places where history and nature meet in perfect harmony. Whether you're a history lover, a traveler seeking great views, or someone chasing peaceful moments, Cape Bojeador is absolutely worth the detour.

Cape Bojeador is a beautiful historic spot that's easy to reach — you can just walk up since it’s not too far from the parking area. I went with my family in March, and even though it’s summer, it was surprisingly windy and cool, which made the short uphill walk very pleasant. The view from the top is amazing, and the lighthouse itself has a lot of charm. A local is also selling an avocado ice candy near the entrance.

Historic charm with a moody view Visited Cape Bojeador Lighthouse this rainy July. The weather added a dramatic touch to the view—misty and atmospheric. The lighthouse itself is rich in history. Be cautious; it can get slippery when wet. Still a great stop for heritage and scenic lovers!

Good Panoramic view of Burgos. The manong in the area is very helpful in explaining to us the history of Cape Bojeador. Did you know that Cape Bojeador Lighthouse has a twin lighthouse in the other side of the country? Should be available by walking from the parking area but to those who do not want to walk, trikes are always ready.
Geezelle M — Google review
A scenic view overlooking Pagudpod. You can walk from the entrance to the area on the top near the tower or ride the trikes for only PhP 10.00 peso each. We visited the place during noon time. We admire the tower from below and forgo the climbing the stairs. Instead have a relaxing seat on the trees below. It has also have souvenirs shops at the entrance.

La Paz Sand Dunes, also known as Bantay Bimmaboy, is a coastal desert in Laoag, stretching 85 kilometers along the West Philippine Sea. Visitors can embark on a thrilling 4x4 adventure across the undulating sand formations and enjoy activities like sand surfing and sand boarding. The area offers a safe yet exhilarating experience with the nearby sea breeze providing relief from the scorching sun.
Great experience! Crews are very attentive and feiendly

Fun experience! $10 well spent! It's like a live, random rollercoaster which was good for everyone (we had kids with us aged 9 and 11 and they had an slamming good time). It was summer morning when we visited around 7am and the sun wasn't too hot so that's probably the perfect time to go. The guide/driver takes you to 4 spots and along the way he tries to raise your heartbeat with sudden dips and ascents along the way. The 4 spots are good for seeing the Laoag scenery and landscape and there's even a stop where you could swim along the beach so bring your swim wear. At the end you could slide down sand dunes as much as you can.
Alvaro ( — Google review
Nice walk. However one must be careful as there are too many imprints of cows roaming on the dunes.

Located in the bustling city of Laoag, the Sinking Bell Tower is a historical marvel built by Augustinian friars in the 1600s. Standing at about 45 meters high, this tower has been gradually sinking into the sandy soil at a rate of approximately 1 inch per year. This architectural wonder attracts visitors who are intrigued by its leaning structure and the mystery surrounding its gradual descent into the ground.

Saint William’s Cathedral (Diocese of Laoag)

Sights & Landmarks
Saint William’s Cathedral, located in Laoag City, Philippines, is a stunning example of Italian Renaissance architecture that dates back to 1612. This magnificent church features a grand facade and an impressive bell tower that rises majestically against the skyline. The cathedral's Gothic-inspired design captivates visitors with its intricate stained glass windows that beautifully reflect the colors of the sky. Inside, you'll find walls adorned with exquisite carvings that have been meticulously preserved over centuries, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of its creators.
A Stronghold of Faith in Ilocos Norte The St. William Cathedral of Laoag stands as a historic testament to the unwavering faith of Roman Catholic Ilocanos. Visiting as part of my personal pilgrimage across Ilocandia’s historical churches, I was struck by the cathedral’s unique charm and solemn atmosphere. One of the most captivating aspects is the distinct styling of its religious icons, which seem to carry influences reminiscent of Greek aesthetics. At the heart of the main retablo is St. William, flanked by the low mass altars of La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc on the left and the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on the right. The church also preserves a traditional Way of the Cross, beautifully represented in old sculptural reliefs, adding to the sacred and historical ambiance. A truly remarkable place of worship that reflects the deep devotion and heritage of the Ilocano people.

This is one testament to how old Christianity is in the Philippines. Built in the 1500s.
Gerard B — Google review
Just across the Sinking Bell Tower, this church, which may not be the first in Laoag City but still as vital to the community's faith, serves its purpose and bring solemnity to both the locals and religious tourists. It's noteworthy that it has a time capsule buried within its vicinity which will be opened by 2061.
Kates — Google review
Not the first church in Ilocos Norte, but the St. Nicholas one. It’s near the sinking bell tower due to the new elevated road. Unfortunately the original Vigan brick tiles, which adds to it’s Ilocano identity and are acoustically effective, were changed into Romblon marbles. Echoes distract solemn masses and homilies.

Feeling blessed to have been able to hear mass in this landmark church. It's also in the middle of the city so it's easy to get to. The 500 plus year old sinking bell tower is just a stone's throw away too.

Paoay Sand Dunes Adventures (Suba) is a must-visit destination in Ilocos Norte, featuring thrilling activities such as quad bike and jeep rides, sandboarding, and large bamboo sculptures. This natural wonder spans 85 square kilometers of golden sand dunes, providing an incredible backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Additionally, the area is famous for being a popular film location and is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Paoay Church.
We chose the Suba Sandunes because of the number of good reviews. We purchased our tickets via Klook but you can also call to book or just walk in. We chose to do the adventure by sunset and I highly recommend you do the same. I think, sunset is the most fascinating time to visit. Though it was Saturday, it was not crowded because we came off season. It was an exhilarating experience. Our 4x4 driver was good and he took us to those really exciting climbs and turns. He also took so many photos at every stop possible. The receiving staff were equally nice and accommodating.

Paoay Sand Dunes in Ilocos Norte is a thrilling adventure destination for those who love outdoor activities. The vast, rolling dunes create a breathtaking desert-like landscape, perfect for adrenaline-pumping 4x4 rides and sandboarding. The experience of speeding over the dunes and sliding down the slopes is both exciting and unforgettable. The best time to visit is during sunrise or sunset when the views are stunning, and the weather is cooler. If you're looking for adventure in Ilocos, this is a must-try!

Super fun experience!! This is my second time going here and it’s still as thrilling. The staff were nice especially the ones at the sand boarding area. I do wish they had a package for only the soft copies of the official photos. Highly recommend for adventure seekers!

This was some extreme activity, not for a weak heart person. It was fun but slightly dangerous so you need to hold on tight or see yourself tossing on air😂 but our driver is professional, always reminding us to hold tight for any tricky terrain so we were safely toured round the sand dunes and stopped by the beach shore to take some pictures. Overall experience was exhilarating and fun, will do it again if I will still be fit for it otherwise it's for young people. There is another activity after the adventure and it is included in the payment so you don't need to pay again. You could buy bottled water too if you end up thirsty and after the activities you could see the pictures you want to pay for souvenirs.
Helen B — Google review
Love the experience but the only problem in the place is that if you lose something either you get it back or some other guests takes it instead. The establishment doesn't have the right system to ensure that the actual owner gets their item back. Other than that the experience is fun and really enjoyable. I just wish that they're careful in people who would take other people's stuff

During our visit to Paoay we were blessed with the opportunity to tour the Malacanang of the North, the Marcos family rest house on the lake. The house is stunningly beautiful, with rich wood trim and hand crafted furniture. We were honored to walk the floors where many have gathered for family functions

A history with a view! The mansion feels like stepping back in time, but the real star is the veranda overlooking Paoay Lake. Don’t miss the veranda shots with the lake as your backdrop. Perfect for your “presidential” photo ops. 📸 Cheap entrance, cool vibe, just wish the displays were more lively. It would also be more engaging if there were guided tours or interactive displays to balance the historical narrative. Still, a must-stop when in Ilocos!

This is a quick tour as Malacañang of the North isn’t a huge place. It is worth the entrance fee. You are free to roam inside and it is really an interesting place… Marcos’ home.

This is the house of the Marcoses here in Paoay so there's a lot of historical significance. With the fee, I expected items and areas to be curated, with descriptions. However, the place just became a big photo background. My favorite part on this place is the office where they showed the projects done by Marcos and Imelda during his long presidency. I learned a lot from there. Sobrang namaintain nila yong mga furnitures, bawal po hawakan, umupo at humiga sa mga kama at upuan. I hope they maintain the place and furnitures for the next visitors.

You can usually find something that brings you back in time that will make you smile. I often find myself how hard to understand and of how we perceive the truth; how we are willing to accept the truth or reject it in order to give ourselves peace of mind when confronted about what President Marcos did. Accommodating and satisfying. Suggestion: restore everything. I observe that some of the glass is not visible, some are broken. But overall it has that information we need to know.

A place that celebrates former President Marcos and his relationship with his wife. I was able to learn quite a lot about his life and how at an early age it was surrounded in controversy. It seems he was a great mind and was able to do some good things for the Philippines. Though at what cost? Take what you see here with a grain of salt. Obviously it's from the narrative of the family.

A museum dedicated to the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos. It tells his story from childhood, to college, as a legislator and then as President. Of course, it also tells his love story with former first lady Imelda Marcos. Entrance fee is P50. His body used to be on display here before it was buried now in the Libinbgan ng mga Bayani in Taguig. I think its a nice stop if you are in Batac or are very interested with the former president, but I would not go out of my way to see it or if you dislike the fomer president.

Hopefully, there will also be a solar light on the east side of his former Museum. Maybe we can also visit inside his former Museum again ( just a suggestion ) . I think the best is, its Main door along hiway should be open and accessible for Public too.

Nestled in the heart of Paoay, Ilocos Norte, the San Agustin Church of Paoay is a stunning testament to Baroque architecture that dates back to 1710. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for its unique earthquake-barque style, featuring an impressive belfry and robust brick reinforcements.
Paoay Church (St. Augustine Church) – Ilocos Norte Visiting Paoay Church last April was a dream come true. Standing before this magnificent structure was both breathtaking and deeply fulfilling. It’s not just one of the best churches I’ve been to—it’s a national treasure that lives up to every expectation. Known officially as the Church of Saint Augustine, Paoay Church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a prime example of Earthquake Baroque architecture. Construction began in 1694 and was completed in 1710. Its massive, tapering buttresses—some more than a meter thick—were designed to help the church withstand earthquakes, making it both an architectural and engineering marvel of its time. The exterior is dramatic and fortress-like, drawing you in with its centuries-old charm. Inside, the atmosphere is more austere and peaceful, reflecting the simplicity and spirituality of Augustinian design. Many historical artifacts and preserved details from the Spanish colonial era can be seen, making it feel like you’re walking through a living museum of faith and history. One small downside is the parking situation—we had some difficulty finding a proper spot for the van we rented, especially with the limited maneuvering space around the church. If you’re traveling in a larger vehicle, it’s best to arrive early or prepare for a bit of patience. Still, the awe-inspiring presence of the church easily overshadows any minor inconvenience. From its rich heritage to the feeling of reverence it evokes, Paoay Church is more than just a destination—it’s an experience deeply rooted in Filipino identity and devotion.

Kaparkan Falls: Abra’s Terraced Wonder Hidden in the Highlands If you're looking for a truly unique and off-the-beaten-path adventure in the Philippines, Kaparkan Falls in Tineg, Abra is a must-see. Often dubbed the “Terraced Falls of Abra,” this natural marvel is unlike any other waterfall in the country. 🏞️ The Experience Kaparkan Falls is a multi-tiered limestone waterfall that cascades down in beautiful, natural terraces. The water flows gently over the white rock formations, creating turquoise pools that look almost too perfect to be real. It’s like nature carved out its own infinity pools in the middle of the forest. Getting there is part of the adventure. The road to Kaparkan is rough and rugged—accessible only by modified 4x4 vehicles during the rainy season (typically July to October). The bumpy ride through the mountains adds to the thrill and makes the destination even more rewarding. 💙 What I Loved • Scenic Beauty: The layered terraces are breathtaking and photogenic from every angle. • Refreshing Pools: The cool, clear water is perfect for a dip after the long ride. • Raw and Untouched: It’s not overly commercialized, so you really feel immersed in nature. ⚠️ Things to Consider • Seasonal Access: It’s only open during the rainy season when the water flow is strong enough. • Challenging Road: The trip can be physically demanding, so it’s best for adventurous travelers. • Limited Facilities: Bring your own food, water, and essentials—there are no stores or restrooms nearby. ⭐ Verdict Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5/5) Kaparkan Falls is a hidden gem that rewards those willing to go the extra mile. It’s a surreal, serene escape that showcases the raw beauty of Abra. If you’re an adventure-seeker or nature lover, this should be on your bucket list.

It is indeed pretty but too expensive to visit. If you failed to book a tour(I heard it's 1500-2500/ pax) in Bangued, you can go directly to the site. Fees to pay are listed below. 1. Entrance - 200 2. Tour Guide - 500(The path to the falls is too wide even a bus can fit. This should only be required if the tourist wants to visit the Lagoon and/or Main Falls) 3. 4x4 truck - 800(Their LGU intentionally stopped the road construction 3kms to the jump off point to keep this business going) Total - 1500

Visited kaparkan falls in Tineg, Abra 4 years ago and would love to go back and be amazed by its clear, turquoise waters...took more than 2 hrs for a rough ride from the jump off point during that time but I think today the road is better than 4 years ago. The place has local guides that you can ask to accompany you when you reach the falls. Make sure you visit the mother falls which is about a 10-min hike down passing by steep slopes of rocks, mud and bamboos. scenic but need to be careful. Good time to visit is around rainy season to enjoy the views and the falls. Spend the whole day and do not rush. There's plenty of instagrammable spots.

We had a great time in Kaparkan Falls. The place is still magical even though the timing of our visit is the end of monsoon season. Visitors should take extra care hopping on the stones because you might fall to the water like what happens to me.🤪😵😩
Ronald A — Google review
When I went here (2022), our truck broke down halfway through and we needed to walk(hike) for almost an hour (or even more than an hour) and it happens that there are no stores nearby so bringing your own foods, specifically water, is a must (make sure to be responsible of your wastes). But as I have also read in the other reviews, you would still need to hike even if your truck does not break down, though only for a short period of time (ranging from 10-20 mins if my memory does not fail me) and the signage in my attached photo will be the start of it. As for the Kaparkan falls — the water is cold, surrounded by trees that add up to its refreshing breeze. The edges of the ground, stones (limestones, the part where I am sitting at in the picture), are rough hence the risk of slipping is somehow unlikely but that's not an excuse not to be careful as there are some high cascades.
Tadeo, O — Google review
Best for the thrill seekers! You need to go early at the registration area because the trucks are limited. We went last 2019. The road is mostly rough road and there's a chance that you may not proceed to the falls due to the weather condition. In our experience, the weather was fine but there was a truck needed to be rescued the night before. Halfway, the wheels would be tied with chains to aid in passing through the muddy road. There's also a short trek going to the falls itself. Once you arrive there, all your worries and tiredness will be relieved! The place is so majestic! 🖤 Road construction was ongoing that time so i think the road condition is better now although for me, the real thrill is in the rough journey!

Churches & Cathedrals
The Minor Basilica of St. John the Baptist - Shrine of La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc is a significant site with a rich history and stunning architecture. The church houses a miraculous statue that originated from Japan during the shogunate period, symbolizing the resilience of Catholic identity in the face of persecution. Pilgrims visit this beautiful church seeking healing and to honor the Virgin Mary. Its exterior features centuries-old bricks, creating a charming contrast with its updated interior.
A Simple Yet Solemn Sanctuary of Faith This church, though simple in design, exudes a profound sense of peace and devotion. It enshrines La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc, the most venerated image of Our Lady in Ilocos Norte, and arguably, the entire Ilocos Region. Stepping inside, I was so captivated by its sacred atmosphere that I almost forgot I originally came to pray and pay homage to God and His Blessed Mother—I simply wanted to stay a little longer. The architectural beauty of this basilica perfectly reflects the unwavering faith and devotion of its locals and pilgrims alike. There’s an undeniable sense of serenity here, one that makes me wish I could stay and live in its peaceful embrace. Without a doubt, I will return whenever I visit Ilocos.

Town of badoc's old beautiful church.
CVM T — Google review
Perhaps unknown to many this miraculous statue came from Japan when during the shogunate period hundreds of Christians were killed including the First Filipino saint, Lorenzo Ruiz. It was place on a big crate with a crucifix and a violin by the Japanese Catholics to prevent its desecration and prudently keep their Catholic identity. The violin is now lost but the cross was taken by the mother parish which is now part of the archdiocese of Vigan.

It is an old church. Even the parochial school and parish office structures date back to the Spanish colonial period. The place has ample parking and the restroom is clean.

Catholics flock to this miraculous church for healing or simply to pay homage to the Virgin Mary. The exposed centuries old bricks on the exterior of the church contrasts the updated interior but that adds charm to the character of Virgen Milagrosa Church. It's a very beautiful church!

Sights & Landmarks
Bantay Bell Tower, a historic landmark in Vigan, Philippines, has been an iconic symbol of the town since its conversion to a church bell tower in 1857. This magnificent brick tower stands on a green hill and holds significant historical value dating back to the Spanish revolt. Adjacent to the St Augustine Parish, it is one of the oldest churches in Ilocos Sur.
My recent visit to Bantay, Vigan City, Ilocos Region, Philippines was an absolute delight and a definite highlight of my travels! The iconic Bantay Bell Tower is truly impressive. The weathered brick and commanding presence offer a wonderful glimpse into the past, making it a fantastic spot for photos and providing a strong sense of historical grandeur. The view from the top (or even just looking up at it) is captivating, and it's easy to imagine its long history overlooking the area. Directly adjacent to the bell tower, the St. Augustine Parish Church is stunning. The interior is richly decorated, particularly the altar, which is a true work of art. The atmosphere inside is very peaceful and reverent, making it a great place for quiet reflection and to appreciate religious artistry. It's a beautiful example of well-preserved Filipino religious architecture. The area around the bell tower and church is well-maintained with green spaces, inviting paths, and even some friendly local goats roaming around! This adds a unique, laid-back charm to the historical sites. Finding the "I ❤️ Bantay" sign was a fun photo opportunity, perfectly capturing the spirit of the visit. Overall, Bantay offers a beautiful blend of history, culture, and natural charm. It's clear that this is a place steeped in tradition, and the preservation of its landmarks is commendable. As someone who appreciates history and unique experiences, I found Bantay to be incredibly rewarding. It's a must-visit when you're in the Vigan City area. The locals are welcoming, and the overall atmosphere is very pleasant, making it a highly recommended addition to your itinerary for a memorable Philippine experience!

The structure itself is well-preserved. Climbing to the top gives you a great panoramic view of Vigan and the surrounding countryside. The bell tower has a peaceful atmosphere, and the nearby church adds to the charm. It’s not too crowded, and the locals are friendly and helpful.

I love my visit to.Bantay Watch Tower in Vigan remains a beautiful historic landmark even though visitors can no longer climb to the top. The centuries-old brick tower still stands proudly, offering a picturesque backdrop for photos and a glimpse into the past. The surrounding gardens and the nearby church make it a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the view from below. A must-visit spot for history lovers and anyone exploring Ilocos Sur!

The Bantay Bell Tower is another must-see in the Northern Philippines, a remarkable structure from the Spanish era that still stands today. Unfortunately, it was heavily damaged during the Ilocos region's last big earthquake on July 27, 2022. We sincerely hope this historical treasure will be restored soon so that future generations can once again have the privilege of going up the tower, just as we did before the damage occurred.

This tower is absolutely amazing, however you're not allowed to get very close to it let alone go inside of it. It was badly damaged in an earthquake several years ago. However you can go and take photos and walk around the grounds in front of the Tower. There's a nearby church and there are also people that you can pay to help you take photos there. I think you should stop here and maybe if you're lucky you can get a little closer to the tower than we were able to.

Seeing the Bantay Watch Tower, built in 1591, reminded me of Candi Brahu, a Buddhist temple located in Beijijong Village, Trowulan District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java, Indonesia. Candi Brahu was built in the 14th century AD. Because of the similarities in appearance between Candi Brahu and Bantay Tower, I visited this place. It is clear that Bantay Tower needs maintenance and perhaps reinforcement, as its structure appears fragile. To give cultural heritage lovers an idea, I have also included a photo of Candi Brahu.

Originally built as a watchtower to guard the town against pirates during the Spanish colonial period, the Bantay Watch Tower has now become an iconic landmark of Vigan. There’s no entrance fee, though donations are appreciated. Visitors can take photos with the bell tower as a picturesque backdrop. However, the tower itself has been closed to the public since parts of it were damaged during the 2022 earthquake.

Explore the historic Bantay Watchtower in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, a must-see Spanish colonial gem. Established in 1591, this iconic tower offers a glimpse into the past, guarding against pirates during the Spanish era... Bantay Watchtower as a Lookout for Invading Pirates The Bantay Watchtower, or Bantay Belfry, is located in a little town called Bantay 10 minutes from Vigan City. Built in 1591, it once served as a watchtower for the Spanish colonists as a defense against the potential risk of invading pirates. The word 'bantay' means 'guard' in Tagalog; and even though the Bantay Watchtower was turned into a bell tower by the nearby church in 1857, it still was used as a watchtower during the two World Wars due to its strategic location.

Metropolitan Cathedral of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle

Sights & Landmarks
The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle, also known as St. Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral or Vigan Cathedral, is a prominent Catholic church in Vigan, Philippines. Built in 1790, this historical church features a predominantly Baroque design with multiple altars and a bell tower. It is considered a significant religious site and a major landmark in the region. The cathedral's architecture reflects a blend of European and Filipino influences, making it an impressive fusion of styles.
During my visit, the Vigan Cathedral was under construction, but I was still able to enter and see the inside. The timing made the experience feel different—it was Black Friday. As I stepped inside, the atmosphere felt a bit eerie, not in a negative way, but more solemn and reflective. A haunting, sorrowful song was playing in the background, fitting for the significance of the day in the Catholic tradition. It felt like a space frozen in grief, evoking the passion and mourning of Christ’s crucifixion. Despite the renovation, the Cathedral’s spiritual weight and historical grandeur still shine through.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Nueva Segovia: A Testament of Faith and Resilience As the stronghold of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, the Metropolitan Cathedral stands as a beacon of faith, even as it bears the scars of the 2022 earthquake. Though still undergoing restoration, it remains open to the public, allowing the faithful to pray and reflect within its sacred walls. Despite the ongoing repairs, pews are still available for visitors, and half of the cathedral remains accessible for worship. At the heart of its marvelous altar are the historical images of Jesus of Nazareth and Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, enshrined in the low mass altars. However, what truly sets this cathedral apart from others I’ve visited is its old Spanish-era paintings displaying the promises of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus to His devotees. Seeing this made me realize why most Ilocano churches prominently enshrine the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary in their main retablos—faith and tradition deeply intertwined. Another remarkable treasure of the cathedral is the venerable remains of Archbishop Alfredo Versoza, a persecuted clergyman in his time for his testament to the apparition of Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Grace, in his former Archdiocese of Lipa. I prayed through his intercession, hoping for the full restoration of this sacred seat of faith and for a renewed devotion among Filipinos to Jesus’ Blessed Mother, the Mediatrix of All Grace. I look forward to the cathedral’s complete restoration, and I will certainly update my review once that day comes. May this place continue to stand as a symbol of unwavering faith for both locals and pilgrims alike.

An incredibly historic and resilient Church located in the heart of the historic Vigan community. The church is currently being repaired and renovated from what I was told was an earthquake that did a lot of damage. However you can still go inside and buy from the vendors on the outside of the church. Definitely worth going inside to seeing this old historic church and learning a little bit about the history.

Also, here lies the remains of Bishop Versoza, 4th Catholic bishop and servant of God. Right across the church is Plaza Salcedo.

Such a pretty place to visit. The old, narrow streets and the enchanting open capiz windows will transport you back to an era where people around you were busy going about their day wearing filipiñana and barong. How positively glorious would that be to witness that in person? Times like this i am reminded of how old my soul feels. Just a piece of advice, make sure to visit this place in the afternoon. My companions and i arrived at abt 12 noon so the restaurants were packed with customers dining in and the streets deserted because of the unforgiving heat that has given me a massive headache but still was worth it! I will definitely be back to visit.

It is great to visit a seat of the Roman Catholic Religion in Vigan. Historically, this Cathedral is one of the oldest in our country where the First Filipino Bishop served. It is located in the very heart of the City. You can have your anticipated mass here at 6 PM and at seven eat your dinner in the nearby restaurants or food store. After an hour, you can find your place in the area where the famous show of the Dancing Fountains are. This place is located right in front of the Vigan Cathedral. Once the show is over, you can walk the rest of the Calle Crisologo to buy your souvenirs.

Plaza Salcedo, also known as Luneta Park Musical Dancing Fountain, is a must-visit attraction in Vigan. This spacious reflecting pool and fountain offers a nightly show featuring synchronized music and colorful lights, creating a mesmerizing experience for visitors. Located within walking distance of other popular tourist spots like Bantay Bell Tower and Calle Crisologo, the plaza comes alive after dark with its captivating fountain show choreographed to match the beats of the music.

The dancing fountain show is absolutely magical — a vibrant mix of colorful lights, synchronized water jets, and uplifting music. This incredibly unassuming plaza is actually quite a delight. There's a pretty fair amount of shade and seating here. Not only that it's pretty well maintained and mostly clean. However the real star of the show is during the evenings on the weekends I was told they do a little music show with the fountains and it is a simple but very enjoyable show to watch. The fountains are in rhythm with the music and there's also a light show occurring at the same time. If you are here and it's past 7:00 p.m. I believe you can watch an amazing light and fountain show that lasts about 30 minutes

This water fountain show came as a surprise to me! It may not be as big as the Bellagio in Vegas but the show is so well made - speakers sounded so good, the lights were on point. Plus they added benches for people to sit in and enjoy the show. The plaza is surrounded by the Provincial Capitol, City hall and St Paul Cathedral which added to its charm and old Spanish colonial vibe.

It's FREE. The show starts by 7:30pm until 8pm. Make sure you get there early. We went there on a Wednesday and there's a lot of people. Sit on the side seating area of the building, I think it has the best view of the show. It will shower for sure, so be prepared. Wear a cap. They also have a smoky effect and you can literally inhale it.

The ancestral home of the prominent Syquia family showcases a unique blend of Spanish and Chinese-inspired architecture, featuring high-ceiling rooms, hardwood floors, intricate wood carvings, and antique furniture.
The entrance fee is good if you're a student or pwd. The tour guide is very knowledgeable of the history and architecture of the house. It is not as well preserved like the best museum exhibits are, but I think it gives the place that touch of authenticity. This is a must visit if you like old Spanish colonial era houses! Rich history and rich owners! Lol! I wish there was a tour guide to provide more stories and explanation. But, it's great how they preserved their things in the house. The carvings on the furniture are intricate. The house is really big. It made me imagine how people lived in the olden times. :)

Lined with well-preserved Spanish-style houses, this lively area is home to souvenir shops and restaurants. The absence of vehicular traffic allows visitors to leisurely stroll along the street, accompanied by horse-drawn carriages.

Wonderful place to visit if you want to experience the feeling of Spanish colonial times. The cobblestone streets and historic Spanish houses create a truly immersive atmosphere. While the kalesas (horse-drawn carriages) add to the charm, it was hard not to feel bad for the horses, who looked tired. I sincerely hope they are well cared for after working all day. I chose not to ride one.

Visiting Calle Crisologo was a truly wonderful experience. It is somehow very high energy while also being very low-key and relaxing at the same time. The streets are beautiful, the shops are wonderful, and everyone there seems to just be happy. This includes the people working at the local restaurants and tourist booths and also the people like myself that are tourist. This is a wonderful walk morning, afternoon, and especially in the evening after the sun has gone down. The horse-drawn carriage rides are a must and it's important to just really slow down and enjoy this beautiful little piece of the Philippines.

Nice spot to get souvenirs and gifts from vigan for your loved ones. The place has many restaurants and resto-bars.

I have visited Calle Crisologo a few times and it's one of the reasons I fell in love with Ilocos as it features a part of Philippine history which gives a nostalgic feeling considering the cobblestones, structures and even the kalesa around. Visiting during the daytimr can be a bit uncomfortable because of the sunny weather and I've noticed that there is less to see but only a few people visiting which can be a good thing for taking photos. But, I prefer visiting at night as it becomes alive with all the people, the lights and outdoor seatings in nearby restaurants have outdoor seating making the experience wonderful. Take note though that it may be crowded and finding a place to take the right photo may be quite difficult. Parking is also limited and recently noticed pay parking signs around the area. There are also hotels nearby bit noticed how some of them may only have street parking. I suggest doing more research around the area for a better parking spot. Recently, we also noticed a lot of construction happening around the area.

is a historic street in Vigan, Philippines, famous for its well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture, which includes cobblestone streets and ancestral houses built in the Bahay na Bato style. Originally called Calle Escolta de Vigan, it was renamed in 1927 after former governor Mena Pecson Crisologo.

It's worth the time visiting this magnificent place. This area is filled with Spanish colonial architecture buildings (houses, hotels, restaurants, merchandise, etc.) if you enjoy such aesthetics you'll have a field day in here. Take care!

Crisologo Museum, located in Vigan City, is a significant landmark that was once the residence of Floro S. Crisologo, a prominent politician. Managed by the Crisologo family and the National Historical Institute under the National Museum of the Philippines, this museum displays memorabilia, religious items, and permanent exhibits related to Northern Luzon's history, ethnography, archeology, and natural history. It offers a glimpse into the life of Congressman Floro S.
Crisologo Museum, located in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, is an ancestral house turned into a museum by the Crisologos, who happens to be one of Vigan’s most prominent political family figures. This museum in the Philippines is a few walks away from the Vigan Cathedral. It is famous not only because of the family name attached to it but with its wide range of memorabilia as it also houses historical and political remains of what shaped the Ilocos province and the whole Philippines. Floro S. Crisologo was one of the popular congressmen and was the head of the Crisologo family who ruled in Vigan in the 1970s. The surname grew popularity and love from the residents of the North as he authored some laws that created the University of Northern Philippines. He is also the one who is behind the establishment of the Social Security System that helped thousands of Filipinos today. When he was at the St. Paul’s Cathedral one Sunday, Floro was shot in the head by an unidentified gunman that even until today no one can name of. He was survived by his children and wife, Carmeling Crisologo. The remaining Crisologos stated that they will not seek revenge but would like to honor the patriarch by turning the ancestral house into a museum that we see today. Crisologo Museum is located at A. Reyes Street, Vigan, Ilocos Sur. The easiest way to get to the attraction is by a guided Vigan tour or by riding a jeepney going to Silang Street. Ask the driver to drop you off at Calle Crisologo. From there, it is a 2- 3 minute walk to the museum.

Admission to the museum is free, but the staff won’t let you proceed unless you put money into the donation box. You can see a wide variety of items and get a glimpse into what life was like for the wealthy during that era. There were plenty of collections, including clothing, perfume, shoes, furniture, and tableware.

When I was taken to the Crisologo memorabilia museum, I had no idea who Floro S. Crisologo was -- who turned out to be one of Vigan City's most famous congressmen. His fame stemmed from his contributions in drafting laws that led to the University of Northern Philippines in Vigan, and even as the father of the Social Security System that has helped many Filipinos. Floro S. Crisologo was shot by an unknown person while at St. Paul's Cathedral. All his memorabilia, including the car with the gunshot wound, are kept in place and modestly in this museum.

This museum is very well laid out. They have an easy to follow route and it's a one-way trip but you have all the time in the world that you want. Unfortunately some of the displays have just been damaged from the humidity and lack of temperature control but most the museum is in good shape. I believe a couple of the rooms have aircon as well. It doesn't take very long to walk through everything but it's a good little stop if it's your first time in Vigan.

A well-maintained museum of a prominent political family in Vigan - the Crisologos. Once the home of Representative Floro and Governor Carmeling Crisologo and their children, the house now showcases fascinating antiques, including an old wooden refrigerator and various personal belongings. Visitors can explore the entire residence, including their offices and bedrooms, offering a unique glimpse into the family's past. The staff are accommodating and knowledgeable. There's no entrance fee, but donations are welcome.

I really loved this museum! Unlike the Padre Burgos Ancestral House, which felt almost bare (most items there are replicas and probably only 5% original), the Crisologo Museum is filled with authentic pieces that bring history to life. You’ll find so many fascinating personal items—from Carmeling Crisologo’s beautifully coordinated bags and shoes, to the actual car where an attempt was made on her life, even down to original election posters. It’s not just a building; it’s a space full of stories and details that make you feel connected to the past. Entrance is free, but donations are encouraged—and I truly recommend giving one. This museum doesn’t receive government funding, and it’s clear that the staff and caretakers keep it alive out of love and dedication. Their passion shows when they share the background and history of Floro Crisologo and his legacy. This is definitely a must-visit if you want to experience a museum that’s both meaningful and full of substance.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. The bottom floor was so hot though. All the fans were unplugged. It was great for a donation only museum.

Hidden Garden in Vigan is a popular spot for visitors, offering a serene garden setting and delicious local cuisine. The downstairs restaurant serves a variety of Ilocano dishes, providing guests with an authentic dining experience. Additionally, the garden features a wide assortment of Filipino delicacies, making it a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. With its tranquil ambiance and flavorful menu, Hidden Garden is an ideal location to explore while in Vigan.
I love the atmosphere of the whole place, the vibe and the theme is totally perfect for people like me who likes greenery and traditional decorations! I wasn't able to fully explore the whole area because I only went for foods but base on what I saw, it's more than a restaurant as it also had other areas like spa massage. The prices of the foods are indeed more expensive than average but the food quality is worth it! I enjoyed every foods and drinks that I ordered along with my family!

Many dishes are praised bagnet, empanada, local Ilocano specialties. The idea of dining in a garden‑setting adds to the overall experience. Atmosphere and scenery in this place is awesome. Many people love Hidden Garden for its peaceful, green ambience. For those who enjoy nature or plants, this is a treat. Nice spots for photos, relaxing walks, enjoying the shade under trees.

The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect—relaxing and inviting. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The location itself is also beautiful and perfect for some Instagram-worthy photos. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience that I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

Great place to eat. Indeed lived up to its name to be "hidden garden". Tho at noon, it might get really hot, but standfans are provided almost on every table. It has restaurant with live music, cafes and pastries, and mini bar. They sell plants and bonsais too. Even the comfort room has a "zen garden" view.

Had our first breakfast here on our Ilocos Family Trip. The service was good. Have a variety of budget meals to choose from with free coffee. The ambience of the place was fantastic. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.

Can’t find more annoying place in Vigan. Because of its popularity the place is overcrowded and overnoising. You can hear 2 songs in the same time in one place. Plus toooo many families with kids in one place - like a kindergarten. It’s not HIDDEN anymore. Or you should come early morning to catch calmness of this garden.
Kate S — Google review
It's alright the food was kinda nice but I think it was also expensive. Some didn't sit well with my taste especially the sisig. The service was also partly convoluted, maybe because we ordered a lot (for 3 families) and some orders just got mixed up so we had many add-ons whilst eating. I feel like the restaurant is the only thing that needs more care put into it, cuz they had so many fans around the roofed dining area that idk what might fly into my food. Another thing was the aura of the restaurant had like a busy public market eatery vibe mostly because of the lack of proper air circulation and lunch rush, they had many fans sure but where do you think old stale air goes when you have 5 industrial wall fans all counteracting each ones airflow (so I would recommend eating in those "umbrella" seats for a better experience, but take into consideration the weather). But all in all the place was great. It had many plants, good vibes, clean restrooms, and a nice little cafe & bakery although a little pricey. It's not the best but it could

My recent visit to Hidden Garden in Vigan City, Ilocos Region, Philippines was an absolute delight and a true highlight of my culinary journey. This charming restaurant is not just a place to eat; it's an experience that celebrates authentic Ilocano cuisine in a beautiful, serene setting. The food here is simply outstanding, with every dish tasting like a labor of love. The absolute stars of our meal were the Bagnet Kare-Kare and the Bangus Sisig. The Bagnet Kare-Kare is a must-try – the bagnet (crispy deep-fried pork belly) was perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender within, beautifully contrasted by the rich, creamy, and savory peanut sauce of the kare-kare. It's comfort food elevated to an art form. The Bangus Sisig was equally impressive; served sizzling, the flaked milkfish was incredibly flavorful, with just the right balance of tanginess from calamansi and a subtle kick from the chili. It’s a brilliant, lighter take on sisig without sacrificing any of the iconic savory punch. Beyond these showstoppers, we also thoroughly enjoyed the Poqui-poqui and Okoy. The Poqui-poqui, with its smoky grilled eggplant mashed and sautéed with eggs, tomatoes, and onions, was earthy, savory, and incredibly comforting – a perfect example of how simple ingredients can create profound flavors. And the Okoy, a crispy fritter packed with small shrimp and vegetables, was a delightful appetizer that was perfectly fried and seasoned. The ambiance of Hidden Garden itself adds to the experience, offering a peaceful escape that truly complements the traditional flavors served. If you're in Vigan and looking for an authentic taste of Ilocano cuisine that will leave a lasting impression, Hidden Garden is an absolute must-visit. You won't be disappointed!

Baluarte Resort and Mini Zoo

Outdoor Activities
Baluarte Resort and Mini Zoo is a 100-hectare zoological park that showcases the owner's safari hunting trophies. The zoo offers a mix of free-range animals and caged or fenced animals, providing visitors with an opportunity to see wildlife up close. Additionally, there is a museum at the top of the hill displaying the owner's trophy wildlife collection. This private collection was gifted to the city, making it an interesting attraction for tourists.
Baluarte Zoo is a fun stop in Vigan, especially if you're traveling with family or kids! I’ve been here a few times, and it’s always interesting to see the animals up close—especially the giraffes, zebras, and camels. You can even feed some of them, which makes the experience really memorable. They also have animal shows, a butterfly garden, and the Safari Gallery, which is quite unique—though some might find the taxidermy displays a bit unsettling. I also appreciated the fact that entrance is free, and there are optional activities you can pay for if you want to try more. What I love most is how interactive it is—perfect for quick photos, light fun, and a relaxing side trip from the city center. However, I hope they continue improving the enclosures and cleanliness of the facilities, especially the restrooms. Overall, it’s worth a visit when you’re in Vigan. It's a mix of fun, nature, and learning—just manage your expectations, especially if you're used to larger or more modern zoos.

I stopped by this place just to see what it was about and I ended up having a truly wonderful time. However bring some water because it is incredibly hot and there's not necessarily a lot of shade while you're walking around. With that being said there is a lot of animals and my favorite part is where I could feed the camels and pet them. There is a large gallery area that has a lot of animal trophies for you to view with some information about the animals. At the end there's also some small history about mining and smelting that occurred in the area, if you have the time I would definitely stop by. But it is a little out of the way. I'd also like to add that on the outside of this place there's lots of wonderful vendors that sell lots of great food and souvenirs very cheaply.

I recently visited Baluarte Zoo in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, and had a fun-filled experience exploring the wildlife sanctuary. The zoo is home to a variety of animals, including Bengal tigers, lions, ostriches, and deer. One of the highlights is the Safari Gallery, which features taxidermied animals hunted by the zoo's founder, Chavit Singson. Pros: - Variety of Animals: The zoo has a diverse collection of animals, including exotic species. - Interactive Experiences: Visitors can feed and interact with some animals, making it a great experience for kids. - Safari Gallery: The taxidermied animal collection is impressive and educational. - Scenic Views: The zoo's grounds are well-maintained, offering great spots for photos. Cons: - Animal Welfare Concerns: Some visitors expressed concerns about animal care and living conditions. - Heat and Crowds: The sun can be intense, and crowds can be overwhelming during peak hours. - Maintenance: Some areas of the zoo appear unfinished or in need of renovation. Tips: - Visit Early: Arrive early to beat the heat and crowds. - Bring Water and Sun Protection: Stay hydrated and protected from the sun. - Choose Your Tour Wisely: Consider the package tour that suits your interests and budget. Overall, Baluarte Zoo is a great destination for families and wildlife enthusiasts. With some improvements in animal care and maintenance, it could be an even more enjoyable experience.

Cool, you can see animals up close. Warning, as the animals displayed were hunted and taxidermy. When I went there, they had a lion out for photos. It was, of course, chained, but it was falling asleep, and the taker kept waking it up for photos. It had no rest. They did let it go back to the cage after seeing that the Lion didn't want to keep awake.

Home to Chavit Singson's collection of animals—both live and taxidermied. This zoo is quite large that they are offering shuttle rides from the entrance to various areas within the grounds. Many animals are easily visible like deers that are freely roaming around, while the carnivores and the larger animals remain safely enclosed in cages. Visitors also have the option to take photos with their famous white tiger for an additional fee. Each ticket includes a chance to feed the camels. This is a great place for kids to learn more about animals and observe them up close in action. However, this is a not a place for wildlife advocates as the zoo also houses a collection of taxidermied animals hunted by Singson himself.

You get what you pay for. The entrance fee was 100pesos (around $7-8CAD), but unfortunately, the experience was dissapointing. Lack of animals- There were no tigers, giraffes, or other animals as advertised on various website. The washroom were not functional, there was no running water, sanitizer, or soap available. There was a lack of clear signage or directions, and several areas were closed off/under construction. We often found ourselves walking only to be told it was a dead end.

This place has long been on my itinerary, so we made sure to stop here for a mini tour. I saw different animals I was already familiar with, but what really caught my attention was Chavit Singson’s collection of hunting trophies. The taxidermy exhibit was impressive — the elephant and hippopotamus in particular were incredibly well preserved and detailed. I truly admire his hobby, especially since I also collect animal skulls as trophies. Baluarte is owned by former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson. Originally a private rest house and personal zoo, it was later opened to the public and became one of the top tourist spots in Vigan. The place reflects both his love for animals and his passion for big-game hunting, which is evident in the extensive taxidermy collection. The taxidermy museum inside features animals Chavit personally hunted during safaris in Africa. It’s not just about exotic animals — the zoo also houses native species and aims to promote animal conservation awareness. The resort occasionally hosts animal shows and photo opportunities with birds and reptiles for visitors. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Ilocos!

It's a worth it experience. The Baluarte Zoo was established by local politician and businessman, Chavit Singson. Initially it was only a rest house for Singson. The site was already known as Baluarte prior to Singson's arrival, which came from the Spanish term for "stronghold" or "fortress".[1] Singson, who cites his hunting hobby as his motive in setting up Baluarte only considered opening a zoo when his hunting trophy collection grew too big. He thought that a zoo would serve to edify it patrons aside from promoting conservation and protection of endangered species.[2] Described as an interactive wildlife sanctuary, the facility was designed and developed by Singson himself.[3]
