I'm really happy to share this wonderful place with you. I went to Nongdari with my parents a few days ago. They really enjoyed this place. There were some nice turning-brown trees along the paths, a sky bridge walking above the lake and even an early Chrishtmas trees at the park. If I lived in Jincheon or nearer place, I would go there more frequently.
Shin K — Google review
A really pretty walk with a lot of beautiful sights, but the suspension bridge is a little difficult to walk across because all the people on it cause it to swing back and forth. The dirt path is covered with a carpeted material to make it easier on the knees and feet to walk on, but it was fairly steeply downhill, which did cause my knee to hurt. It's a great hike if that's what you're looking for!
Elusive E — Google review
Great place for a family weekend getaway. Modern architecture has brought nature closer to people which can be realized just by looking at the cable bridge.
Shariful H — Google review
It has been long time to visit this stone bridge which didn't use any additive to glue the stones and yet the bridge has not been washed away. Noticed many smaller stones were separated meaning it may collapse sometime in future. Good civil engineering job!

Hot Springs & Geysers
Nestled in the heart of Daejeon's urban landscape, Yuseong Hot Springs offers a surprising oasis with its outdoor spa surrounded by Chinese fringetrees. The alkaline spring water, rising from 200 meters below at temperatures between 27 and 56 degrees Celsius, has been cherished for centuries for its therapeutic properties. Originally discovered during the Baekje Kingdom, this natural wonder continues to attract visitors seeking relaxation and healing.
Can’t believe these hot springs are FREE! We went on a Sunday morning and wasn’t too busy. Make sure to wash your feet before you put them in and wash afterwards. Definitely worth a visit to relax. 2 different section. One pictured and the other is a little further down with different style pools
Sophie H — Google review
Wow, a public & free hot foot spa in Korea? Unbelievable. I've never seen anything like this before in South Korea. If you're in Daejeon and nearby this place, definitely consider visiting it. Especially when the weather is cold The instruction on how to use this foot spa is available in English, and is pretty common sense. Let's all practice basic manners and keep this place clean
SeungJun K — Google review
What a great thing to have. If you're nearby, I definitely recommend spending some time here. The water is so hot, I only managed 10 minutes! They have a great set-up going on, there's even an air compressor to dry your feet.

Definitely a place you must visit in daejeon, particularly when it is cold. It is a great neighborhood to have a Sunday evening stroll alone or with your family & friends.
Toyyeebah M — Google review
Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to dip my feet in because of limited space. I could read the faces of people's who were enjoying hot spring. I saw a book shelf with free books to read and relex. Kids were also enjoying with parents. Worthy visit.
Shagufta A — Google review
Very interesting way to relax during such cold weather. Mostly locals and some walk by foreigners soak their foots. Soak about 20-30mins depending on your own like
MOUSE A — Google review
This is an area in Daejeon that is famois for the hot spas. In this park like area one can relax with uour feet in the hot spring water. It os also free. They call it a foot massage but no one touches your feet, they are messaged by the water! I also recommend that you walk around in the area and if you wish for a hot bath go to the YouSong Hotel. It is close to this area and lust ask as all in the area know of this famous hotel.

Daejeon Expo Science Park is one of those places where you can enjoy a bit of everything — history, science, and a relaxing walk. The park was built for the 1993 Expo, and you can still see Hanbit Tower standing tall with great panoramic views of the city. There are small museums and displays showing expo history, plus some interactive science exhibits that kids enjoy. The walking paths are wide and peaceful, with plenty of trees and seating areas. The Expo Bridge is especially beautiful in the evening when the lights come on, and sometimes there’s a music and fountain show near the plaza. It’s not a huge theme park, so don’t expect thrill rides, but it’s perfect for a 1–2 hour visit if you like scenic spots and light learning. Easiest way to enjoy it: come in the late afternoon, explore the tower and exhibits, then stay for sunset and the night lights. Great for families, couples, or anyone looking for a calm, photogenic place in Daejeon!

The Daejeon Museum of Art is a modern museum located in Jung-gu, Daejeon, showcasing contemporary works by both local and foreign artists. The museum features a sculpture park and an impressive collection of over a thousand pieces of contemporary art, including paintings, sculptures, digital media, and photographs. One of its notable exhibitions is the 2020 Daejeon Biennale which explores the intersection of art and advanced AI technologies.
What an AMAZING gallery with cheap prices and professionally curated exhibitions. Kim Hyungkoo's oil paintings are spectacular, as are Cho Phyunghwi's ink paitings. There are some exciting upcoming exhibitions.
Sarah L — Google review
5,000 won for entry and you can use the kiosk to pay. I was hoping to see more but it seems there’s only exhibition on the first floor and a small room in the basement
Shi N — Google review
We came during the rainy season and stumbled upon this museum because we couldn’t do anything outside haha So our expectations were really low and in-person exceeded our expectations. There were lots of exhibits and works of art around the museum. I think we spent about 1-2 hours strolling around! Here’s some of the pieces in May 2023
Queen B — Google review
This place was a bit odd to me. I'm all for the arts but I was thinking this place was going to be one of those picture art places not gene splicing horse and human DNA to give a human prosthetic horse legs type art. So it was kinda weird. At the start of the tour, a lot of the art pieces were about body heat activated lights that were in a dark room. I enjoyed this. But toward the end, it was about prosthetics and people being controlled by robots. I am not an art person so I'm saying that this place wasn't my cup of tea per say.
Garrett M — Google review
It's a must place for interactive art lovers or if you just want to take some cool Instagram pictures.
Sharon N — Google review
Very interesting museum. They currently have exhibits based on bio mimicry and bio tech art. The museum itself is small and takes about 1 hour to view everything. There is a small cafe for drinks and small dishes. There is an interactive robot but that exhibit only opens from 2-3pm.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Hanbat Arboretum, located in the heart of Daejeon's urban center, is a sprawling man-made arboretum that offers a diverse collection of trees and plants. Spanning 371,000 square meters, it features 19 theme gardens showcasing 1,787 plant species. The arboretum serves as an educational space for youth and a tranquil green oasis for city dwellers. Visitors can explore pathways, play areas, and a large pond while enjoying the lush surroundings.
Beautiful park with natural and well manicured sections. When I went in the afternoon at the beginning of September there were maybe a couple of dozen people in the entire park, so it was possible to really take in the natural sounds of the birds and nature. The smell of the forested areas was amazing. Best of all, there is no entrance fee. I didn't go inside any of the exhibits since many seemed closed at the time.
Nima N — Google review

**Hanbat Arboretum: A Nature Lover's Paradise!** This place is incredible! From the moment you enter, you're greeted by a beautiful rhythmic fountain and cooling showers. There's even a coffee shop, convenience store, and restaurant for refreshments. It's all kids friendly. For the active crowd: There's a huge paved cycling path with bikes you can rent. Lovely, shaded pedestrian walkways for walking or jogging. Feeling studious? Check out their well-stocked library, perfect for learning about plants and animals. Traveling with kids? They have a dedicated play area to keep them entertained in the library. The jewel in the crown: The arboretum itself boasts a variety of stunning flora and fauna (though I didn't explore the paid ticketed section). Beyond the plants: There's a beautiful natural pond teeming with colorful fish you can feed with bread. Relaxing walking paths with bridges offer scenic views. The atmosphere: Lush trees, calming birdsong, and the gentle sounds of a flowing stream create a truly peaceful environment. Comfortable benches are perfect for a moment of quiet reflection or conversation with loved ones. Heads up for nature enthusiasts: You may spot a snake warning sign in one of the thicket areas. These signs are just a safety precaution to let visitors know that snakes might be present in that area, but they don't roam. Hanbat Bridge: Relaxing walking paths with bridges offer scenic views, including the meticulously designed pedestrian bridge connecting the arboretum to the Hanbat Tower – a true engineering and colorful masterpiece! Overall: This arboretum is a masterpiece! The design and execution are top-notch. I could easily visit here countless times and never get tired of it. **Highly recommend!**

7 Apr 2024 It was crowded with families having fun cycling around, couples having picnic under the cherry blossom trees. Flower petals were falling as the gentle winds blew. Flowers in various stages of bloom and wilt were seen. It was a nice visit.

Wow- what a beautiful place. It’s a smaller version of the New York botanical garden but has a lot to see and do! As you enter there are a couple buildings on the right which you can enter. One is a green house and the other is insect research facility with an area with some live animals. (Lizards, bugs, fish). There is also a beautiful cafe on the rooftop of one of the buildings. It’s called the healing cafe. The rooftop has a lot of flowers and small birds and good drinks and snacks. As you go further in, you get to the gardens which are quite expansive and have various different areas. There is a lookout, two large ponds, meditation areas, senses garden and even a large field for kids to run around and play. You could spend many hours here. We stayed for about 2 as we walked through and had coffee at the cafe. Best of all - ITS FREE TO ENTER!!

Thos is a great place to excape the hussel of the day. It is located near the Daejeon Art Museum and is a beautifully landscaped park area with a variety of habitats. There are open lawn areas, ponds, streams and pavilions where one can sit down and watch the surprising amount of wildlife in this hidden enclave. I recommend it as a place to go and enjoy the boardwalks that lead to unexpected scenes. The only negative for me was a little traffic noise in the northern reaches of the park. Daejeon spent allot of effort to make a special location for getting away from the crowds for a few hours or even the whole day as the opening times are long, especially in the summer. Look at the enclosed photos for more information and come and enjoy.

The musuem has many antiques and prehistoric items on display albeit the museum is small. The permanent collection had a decent amount of English, but the private collection donated by the previous samsung chairman had no English description besides the name. Mentioned on

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Sangdang Sanseong Fortress is an ancient compound nestled in the mountainous landscape, featuring stunning gardens, a serene lake and fortified walls that offer panoramic views of the city. This architectural marvel can be reached by embarking on an enjoyable 3.4 km hike from Cheongjuland that takes around 30-40 minutes to complete. While the initial kilometer of the trek may be relatively steep, it eventually leads to a normal walking path spanning 2-3 km.
It's a nice scenic hike. Nothing spectacular, but nice enough to see the view of the city. It took roughly an hour to go around depending on how many stops you make. Definitely wear runners and active wear as I did not do that. Make sure to stay away during the rainy season as it can get dangerous.
Jenny Y — Google review
Loved the place, but wear comfortable shoes because you will walk a lot.
Burcu K — Google review
The parking lot is not that big but this place is big for every one to sit on the mat enjoying the day. Some ppl even bring tent. Maybe it is forbiden here to cook here but you can just bring food and eat it here. As you can see from the picture, fall folliage is so pretty. It is red on the one side and yellow on the other side. Although the gingko leaves are 50%left, some trees even left 10~20% leaves only. Autumn is really perfect time to have a picnic.

Zoos
Daejeon O-World is a charming amusement park nestled in the picturesque nature of Daejeon's southern mountains. It comprises three main attractions: Zoo Land, Flower Land, and Joy Land. Zoo Land is home to 600 animals from 160 species, including Bengal tigers, giraffes, elephants, Korean wolves, zebras, and black bears.
A place to visit when in Daejeon, a 3-in-1 amusement park. The rides in the Joy Land are mostly for kids and teenagers. The Animal Land consists of lovely animals from all over the world in clean habitats. The Flower Land can be visited in the night, with beautiful lights and a musical fountain. Food is readily available and very reasonable for a theme park! The entrance fees of ₩34,000 for adults and ₩28,000 was well worth!

Beautiful park and so much things to do! It was quite bigger than I expected, and we really enjoyed the zoo, flower land and bird land. Lots of unique animals in the zoo area, and it is spacious and clean. Not lot of crowds during weekdays, which helped us getting plenty of time to roam around, enjoy the park and take tons of pictures. We loved it here!
Hanna L — Google review
Good place to spend weekends there. Many animal, birds exhibits and flower gardens are there. Takes almost 3_4 hours to filly cover the park. Also there are many rides on payment basis there which will keep the kids engaged. Plenty of parking
Vivek G — Google review
Great zoo, birds, safari, flowers . Lot of areas for children and people to enjoy and there is an option for tracking near by .
Ronit N — Google review
It’s a nice place to have fun in couple, family or friends. But if you can’t stand children’s screaming, that’s not a good place for you 😅 The Safari is nice but i felt heartbroken when i saw the elephant and the giraffe alone. They should not stay like this. 😞 also, It’s written it close at 6pm but at 5pm everyone have to get out of the parc. Even the gifts shop was close.
Isabelle S — Google review
About 4 rides were close when we came. The waiting time per ride was fast. We like that the rides were longer... not much on food selection. You need to wear really good walking shoes as the zoo is located in the higher ground so a bit of walking uphill is needed. The toilets are not as clean as I would like them to be. The staff and crew are really nice and friendly. The safari ride was rather fast. So we didn't get to enjoy it as much.
JOLEN C — Google review
Daejeon O-world, is a recreational park for adults and kids alike. Conveniently located the place can be reached by public transport and own vehicle. There are a lot of busses that run in this route. The place has a huge parking lot as well. Booking tickets in advance is recommended, as the place could get crowded especially on weekends. The place has theme parks, rids for kids to enjoy, a small safari, a good decent size zoo. We were surprised to see puma and jaguar in the zoo, which most of the zoos do not have/keep. The animal enclosures are big and plenty of space for them to roam around. However pity is to see large birds in small enclosures with no/very little space to fly. The safari is short but good. For kids there are a lot of rides to enjoy. There is also a dance performance by the staff, which is really good. The place has plenty of food options as well. From western food, burgers, fries, to Korean food and snacks. A good place to visit when in Daejeon, would recommend 5-6 hours to enjoy the place fully.
Piyush S — Google review
Daejeon o World is the main attraction of Daejeon. It’s a beautiful amusement park but it’s quite small as compared to the everland or lotte world. We enjoyed the gyro drop a lot. But the unique experience that i had there was the jungle safari as the bus is taking us on a ride through the jungle. This is first time I experienced how it feels to be behind bars. In most zoos the creatures are behind the bars and we enjoy watching them from outside. Here we were all stacked up in a bus like behind the bars and the creatures were freely moving in their natural habitat. So i do really liked this idea and enjoyed it. Also the flower garden was mesmerizing. It was beautifully decorated🤩 All the rides were amazing

A main shopping street of Daejeon. It is located 1 subway station or a 15mins walk from Daejeon railway station. U would find plenty of shops retailing clothes, branded goods and food. 🥘 Whether for an exquisite meal, local delight or simple snack, you will find something you like.

Lot of great shopping area, live, very nice and today there is a famous bred and cake and the line is huge . Come and enjoy the atmosphere

Unique experience for western visitors. Many stores, bakeries, restaurants, coffee shops etc. Everything is very colourful and there is a vibe of celebration. For some reason, which I am not clear about, there are multiple stores dedicated to claw machines ( aka crane game, skill crane or UFO catcher) Not one machine, not one store, but many stores of those machines. Somewhat strange. There are also stores that lets you dressup and take photos of yourself in a photo boot (which is kind of strange, given the availability of camera phones). Another uniqe shop is the cats coffeshop. It has a song that stucks in your head about how to meow. The skyroad is also very close to the Daejeon market. Both highly recommended. The only downside is the parking, but overall it is not very expensive.
Moshe B — Google review
The place has many stores and the roof over the street looks fantastic. Be aware that the main lights in the middle of the skyroad were turned off when I arrived there. I strongly suggest to check schedules and look more information on internet beforehand.I suggest you check the streets nearby as well, because they have cool lighting and several stores to hang out.

I’ve never seen a place like this, looks like some kind of steampunk futuristic street. Definitely one of the most interesting spots of Daejeon. You will get an overload of smells, lights and noises. There are a lot of places to eat, shop and drink.

(Translated by Google) Visited on 2024.10.13. The main event of the Geumsan trip is the Geumsan World Ginseng Festival. The Janghang Maekmundong Festival that I experienced in Seocheon at the end of August remained a good memory, so I looked for other local festivals like this in October and found the Geumsan Ginseng Festival. In addition to this place, the Gujeolcho Festival held in Jeongeup was also a candidate, but some said that Gujeolcho was not in full bloom, so we ultimately chose the Geumsan Ginseng Festival. We arrived at the festival venue around 6:30 PM, planning to see the festival, have a light dinner at the food court, and even watch the closing ceremony performance. However, at that time, most experience facilities or events had already closed or were withdrawing. The closing ceremony performance was supposed to end at 10 PM, so even the jeweler stopped by, thinking it would be okay until 9 PM, but it was an easy decision. Since I had planned to eat until dinner at the festival venue, I suddenly became impatient, so I walked across the festival venue while taking pictures. After passing the main event stage, there was a food truck zone, and after going a little further, a ginseng market appeared. I found out that Baek Jong-won had opened a separate food event hall, but it wasn't easy to see, so I wondered where it was, but it was on the other side of the food truck zone. At an event venue called Baek Jong-won's Geumsan Ginseng Food Festa, the menus seen on YouTube were being sold. However, at this time, it was 7 PM and most of the menu items were already sold out, so the only items left to order were tteokbokki, gimbap, sausage, hot dogs, and volkatsu. In a situation where there were almost no options, I was trying to figure out what to eat, so I bought just tteokbokki and kimbap, but they really didn't taste like ginseng at all. Even on YouTube, they added ginseng, but they said the point was to hide the scent of ginseng, and they did that. After a simple dinner, we headed to the main event stage to watch the closing ceremony performance. The famous invited singers included Hongja, Park Nam-jeong, and Kang Jin, and Hongja came out first and sang a few songs. The trot singers who came out after Hongja were also like that, and their stage performance skills were basically good. This seemed to happen even more because the performances I attended were often festivals and events, and the audience was middle-aged and elderly. Near the end, Park Nam-jeong appeared, followed by Kang Jin, and all the performances ended and the festival ended. By the way, when Park Nam-jung appeared, the excitement at the event was the hottest. I sang four songs, and when I sang “Missing You” at the end, the response was explosive. It was amazing and fun that Park Nam-jeong was almost 60 years old and could still dance and sing. In particular, the footwork was still the same. 2024 is said to be the 42nd World Geumsan Ginseng Festival. Since it is a festival so old that you wonder if it has been that long, all the singers who participated in the performance mentioned it at least once. In fact, we arrived on the last day of the festival, which lasted for 11 days from October 3rd to 13th, past 6pm when most of the events had ended, so we didn't experience anything and only watched the closing ceremony performance, so we enjoyed the event. It's embarrassing to say, but I got the feeling that this is what local festivals are like. The festival seemed to have been well controlled overall, and it was especially impressive to see the event venue being evacuated and cleaned up in an orderly manner after the closing ceremony. The Geumsan Ginseng Festival was not a festival with anything particularly special, but I immediately felt that it was an event that had everything and did the basics. I could feel the strength of an event that has been going on for over 40 years. Although there were a lot of people, the parking lot was large and restrooms were appropriately placed, so there was no inconvenience.

Beopsang Buddhist temple founded by a monk, Uisin, in the 6th century & including over 60 buildings.
It is a good place for healing. You can see the 3 each giant stone at the left side of this temple. Also in the middle of the temple, You can see the giant Buddha statue. This statue used to be formed a cement material. But after the time pass cement had a crack and moss problem. So They changed a cement to bronze and bronze to gilt bronze.

Beobjusa is one of those places where you start off thinking, “Let’s just take a few photos,” and 10,000 photos later you realize your storage is full. The temple buildings are beautiful, calm, ancient, and surprisingly photogenic (even my camera got zen). The huge Buddha statue looks like it’s silently judging your life choices but in a loving way. And the flower arrangements made everything look amazing. There are little shops around selling snacks, teas, and souvenirs, and the people are so kind it’s impossible not to smile back. Definitely wear comfy shoes, enlightenment comes with stairs! This place is perfect for nature lovers, history fans, and anyone who needs a break from city chaos or too many notifications.

Very cool temple with the biggest Buddha Statue in Korea! Also normally the monks hit this big gong only once every day at 5pm. We had the „luck“ to be there at the same time as about 200 british jamboree children and every one of them who liked got to hit the gong! So we got to experience the gong not only once but about a hundred times while we were there! Kinda annoying but fun at the same time. >ㅇ<

Sights & Landmarks
Haeinsa Temple, situated in the Gaya Mountains, is a 9th-century Buddhist temple that houses over 80,000 wooden blocks with engraved Buddhist scriptures. The temple is located in Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do and can be easily accessed by car from Gwangyang within two hours. There are various restaurants and attractions available at Haeinsa Temple, along with breathtaking scenery.
4,000 won to enter with the car. Beautiful temple with a lot of different parts. You can see the archives via the holes in the wall but it's amazing to see. I parked just after the gate and did the 1,5 hours trek. It's really pretty and there is more to see if you are ready to go around like a temple on top of another mountain that are worse seeing.

This is a beautiful Buddhist temple. It is a very important temple in Korea. It was thankfully not bombed during the Korean War. Orders were given to a North Korean pilot to bomb the temple as it was believed UN troops were using the area, but fortunately the pilot knew the importance of this sacred temple and he only machine gunned along an outer perimeter and did not cause significant damage to the temple, but reported that he had bombed it. There is a river that runs along one side of the temple grounds. The tripitaka library is on the temple grounds. It is best to see the Tripitaka Library for information about the very famous library.

Visited this wonderful temple during our recent trip to South Korea. It is a very scenic 1 hour bus ride from the Seobu bus station (not from the Dongdaegu bus terminal) in the town of Daegu. There is a short uphill treck to this temple complex. Lucky for us, there were morning ceremonies taking place when we went, chanting, drum beating by a group of monks, and an aerial display of dogfight practice (with flares) by two sets of fighter jets up above our heads. This temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. There is extensive online writeup - that is a must read - regarding the storage of the Buddhist Tripitaka. Buddhist religious scrolls on wooden boards. Very impressive!! There is also a temple stay provision for those so inclined to immerse themselves in the natural serenity for a longer time. A full day trip (longer if possible) will do justice. Note - while one can pay for the bus trip to Haeinsa Temple by card at the Seobu Bus Station - the return trip has no such flexibility. The return trip is only payable by cash on the bus. Lucky for me, there is an ATM that accepts global cards on the temple premises - where i had withdrawn some cash, prior to our return.

It’s a massive temple with an amazing UNESCO world heritage. Our guide monk made the concept of Buddhism and the temple’s history very easy to understand. We were also accompanied by a full-time English interpreter, who was exceptionally friendly and helpful. While reaching the location can be quite challenging without a car, but still worth a visit for a temple stay if you’re spending quite a long time in Korea.

Each and every Buddhist shrine in South Korea makes a stunning impression and literally transports you to a different dimension. Ancient Zen (Seon) monasteries are usually located in the mountains - in remote secluded areas, which are hard to access. I might have never reached Haeinsa if there hadn't been a cultural program called “Temple stay”, which exists for over fifteen years. Technically, it gives everyone an opportunity to try to live monastic lifestyle for a few days. Philosophically, it is a chance to learn about your true self, talk to your inner self. Haeinsa temple, situated in the Gaya mountains, often embraced with fog, is well-known for being home to "Tripitaka Koreana" - a complete collection of the Buddhist scriptures carved on more than 80,000 wooden blocks. It was here, where I did my "Temple stay". Once you sign up for the program, you have to follow a set routine. First 24 hours at the monastery might seem to pass slowly in the beginning, but soon they actually fly. A monk's day starts at 3.30 am with the tolling of a majestic bell. Visitors gather at the main hall for the morning ritual. The sound of the throbbing Dharma drum reverberates and wakes up even peaceful mountain peaks. There is a morning practice of 108 prostrations and one hour for meditation before having monastic meals at 6 am. There is a prayer at 10 am, lunch at 12 noon, dinner at 5 pm and night ritual at 6 pm. The rest of the hours can be spent walking around the back of the mountain, performing Zen meditation, or having conversations with monks. Along with the other participants I was invited for teatime with a monk. "At the temple, I hope, you will learn wisdom and life skills rather than intellectual knowledge about Buddhism", - he said.

I totally recommend to stay this temple who seeing my review.

Really beautiful and well maintained provincial park. You get to experience nature and Korean history with a variety of landmarks on the trail from temples to caves. If you are hiking to the peaks it's an intermediate hike but there is an option of taking the cable car to one of the temples if you are looking for a strain free day. Getting to the mountain is also easy, a 5 minute (approx., 4,000 KRW) taxi ride from Gumi Station. Plus, plenty of eating options at the bottom of the mountain.

Andong Hahoe Folk Village

Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Andong Hahoe Folk Village is a charming riverside village that offers a glimpse into traditional Korean culture during the Joseon Dynasty. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is renowned for its traditional mask-making and other crafts. To avoid crowds, it's best to visit during off-peak times and explore the bucolic countryside setting.
Gorgeous traditional village! Definitely worth a visit to see this window into Korean culture. The mask dance performance at 2-3pm is also a must-see. Caught a taxi from Andong Bus Terminal for 27900 won. Although it’s more expensive than the 210 bus, catching a taxi only takes about 20-30 minutes compared to the hour plus on the bus. Stayed overnight at Jisan House Hanok. Really enjoyed this experience. It was a beautiful Hanok surrounded by green mountains. The host even provided rice cakes and coffee for breakfast and helped us call a taxi in the morning.
Carina S — Google review
Amazing to see in person. Nice to walk around and see the different buildings. Incredible that people actually live there. Shuttle bus there and back was a bit too crowded for my liking, but the ride is short…3 min. Well worth the visit.
Cedric C — Google review
Must visit this historical village!!! Getting a car is much easier to approach but there’s local bus to this village.(210 bus, 30 minutes) And if you arrive in Andong station or bus terminal before noon, you would be able to visit Byounsan Seowon(Check time table!!) first then visit this village. For me, renting a bike is better to look around than walking. (Plus you can save time if you don’t have a car!)
Jiin K — Google review
Definitely worth the visit. It is a living traditional korean village. Very historical and fun place to walk around. Loved the mask and shaman history. Made me.feel like we (humanity) were all connected. Highly recommend visiting.
White H — Google review
A well preserved Hanok village, showing how the houses and streets were like back in the days. Some people are still living there so be considerate when exploring. The folk village is particularly famous for its mask performances, which is regarded as a UNESCO cultural heritage. However, it’s a little slow-paced for me and I only watched about 3/4 of it. To get here, one can either drive and then take a shuttle bus in, or take bus 210 from Andong bus terminal / Andong KTX station.
Hong W — Google review
very beautiful and super peaceful village. not so much wait for the shuttle but it was in may, week day. if you want to eat, only place where you can find food is near the ticket office, not in the village once you too the shuttle bus. you can go out and come back with the same tickets though and the shuttle takes max 15min (drive is very short but you need to wait either for the bus to be full to leave or wait to get a in)
Lily V — Google review
Although the actual village living area was quite small grouped into a compact neighborhood, it's features pretty much represented the quaint and pragmatic lifestyle of an old era. The location however is absolutely breathtaking, high up overlooking the reservoir and nestled within such colorful vegetation; one couldn't feel sorry for residents of yore lacking in many modern amenities bc they had this terrific vista to feed their soul. It seemed like a real healthy kind of living as well. No wonder Koreans are mostly slim and fit

Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy

Mentioned on
1 list
Historical landmark
The Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy is a well-preserved school made up of traditional timber-framed pavilions nestled in the midst of scenic mountains. Visitors can take guided tours to learn more about the centuries-old complex, which offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere. While personal transportation is necessary to reach this historical site, it is definitely worth a visit for those who want to experience the tranquility and beauty of this unique cultural gem.
Byeongsan Seowon is a prestigious Confucian academy established during the Joseon Dynasty, a dynasty that spanned approximately 500 years in Korean history. To offer a European historical comparison, Joseon’s era parallels the period from the late Renaissance through to the early stages of the Industrial Revolution. Founded in the early 17th century, Byeongsan Seowon served as a vital center of Confucian learning, nurturing many distinguished scholars and literary figures. The academy is harmoniously nestled within nature, offering a tranquil, serene, and intimate atmosphere. It is a place where the changing of the seasons is vividly felt — with fresh greens in spring, deep shade in summer, brilliant foliage in autumn, and peaceful snow in winter. The name Byeongsan (병산) derives from the surrounding mountains that encircle the site like a traditional Korean folding screen painting, known as byeongpoong (병풍). Much like these protective mountains, the secluded and pure environment of the academy provided a perfect setting for scholars to cultivate their minds and spirits in silence and reflection. It is also a site of international recognition, having been visited by notable world figures such as Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and President George W. Bush of the United States. A fried recommended this as a "hidden gem" only locals know about it, so when I saw 3 large buses in the car park.. on a cold December day I was pretty surprised. Turns out they were filming a Korean drama there - so this added to the excitement and experience of wondering around this place. I also visited Dosanseowon and I believe it was much better!
Dana — Google review
The way leading there from the village was hard to find. It had some nice views, but when we got to the academy it was already closed. Maybe it's because we didn't get in, but from the outside it looked much like other buildings in the village. We decided to head back going the other way around the hill so as not to repeat the trail; terrible idea. That road is only meant for cars!

I have been to Duryu Park several times, and each time has been fun! Right next door is E-World and the 83 tower! Where you can play to your heart's content. I usually always go there every summer for the Chimak Festival in Daegu. At this festival, many people from all over Korea come to eat delicious chicken and drink various drinks, especially beer! I enjoy going so I can have a good time, vibe with my friends, and, of course, for the love of chicken. Lol. The music and performances are also always great, and I enjoy my time there and look forward to going every year. 🤗 I also hope to picnic here one day with my friends.

Duryu Park is home to many great spaces such as e-world and 83 Tower. Most importantly, the spot for the Chimak Festival that happens every year in Daegu. Its basically a festival where people can eat food and drink whatever they like. Enjoyed good vibes, music, performances, and the love of chicken. It was my first time going this year, and it was just so much fun. Made new friends and just danced to the music. Enjoyed my time there 🥰 even if you go on a normal day, Duryu Park is a nice place for having a picnic, enjoying nature, and basking in the sun.

Last week a spectacular Daegu Chimac Festival 2024 was held in Duryu Park, Daegu. It was such a great experience to attend this grande festival. I went with my friends and we enjoyed a lot. We had Daegu's best ever chicken paired with some fresh beer. The most attractive thing from the festival was the DJ's performance. It was fun, energetic and super crowded. Daegu was succesfully organized this biggest summer festival. I would love to attend next year Daegu's Chimac Festival 2025 :D

I feel like it's a great place to take pictures, but only at the ground level for the cherry blossoms. Observatory deck has a small cafe featuring 2 mascots from E World, along with some goggles for close-up views of the scenery. Is it worth the torturous climb? Not really if you're unfit. Total time taken to climb was roughly 10-15 minutes. It is an inclined slope as well. I had no thoughts about the cafe, didn't try the drinks, but they have cute little trinkets. Btw, while you're trekking up to the tower, there will be E World music playing all the way up, soooo good luck... 🫠

Seomun Market is a historic and expansive market that dates back to the end of the Joseon Dynasty. It boasts thousands of vendors selling a wide variety of goods, including food, clothing, linen, cotton, silk, satin, haberdashery, handicrafts, and silverware. Despite its growth over the years, the market still retains alley names that have been in use for centuries.
Great experience for a first-time visitor, people who work at maket are very friendly and enthusiastic. I always love to explore the local food and culture through the traditional market. If you like to be adventured, plan a half day at the traditional market. It's more fun to enjoy the trip :)

Loved visiting the traditional Korean Seomun market during our recent visit to Daegu. Enjoyed walking the streets and inside the market lined with local offerings of food, clothing, travel accessories and the friendly bustle of a local market. Took advantage of the local offerings of Tteokbokki and Hotteok - lip smacking good!! We also found a store selling local made candy and got a kilo of these little sugar delicacies - milk, pumpkin, peanut flavors, etc. The owner of the store topped off our purchase with a generous handful - on the house!! Worth visiting every nook and cranny of this wonderful market.

For a true Daegu local experience, this market is a must-visit location. There is a wholesale trade section for wet and dried seafood, a huge multi-level section for retail fashion clothings and kitchenware, an array of street food vendors, a section for popular local restaurants and the amazing list goes on… Expect heavy traffic in this area and suggest to arrive/depart by train. I tried to book a taxi via app and was unsuccessful at about 5pm.

We hit the weekend night market which is just good down the main street. Great food and some of the best street food we had in Korea was here. There was love music and places to eat the food you got from the vendors as well. Overall a fun experience and worth going to if there on a weekend evening. We all went in the day time to look around and buy a hanbok which there are many options. A very large market that we barely got to see when there was we ran out of time. Do watch some of the vendors give cheap wire underdress with the hanbok.

This market is the most famous in Daegu and for good reason! The street food is incredible and very affordable, not to mention the vast variety of independent stalls and crafts which are sold here! This place is very busy, so I would suggest going before or after lunch unless you are going to eat here! Easily accessible and a great local day in Daegu!

I stayed in a hotel at walking distance to Seomun market and incidentally explored it by searching on Google. It is a super large and vibrant traditional market. I bought some winter stuff at very good price. I surprisingly saw the dishes much like which we also had in my country (pork intestines tasting so good). In front of the market there are bus lines including no.2&3 connecting with the old village attraction. Worthy to experience!

Apsan Park, situated at the lower end of Daegu, is a picturesque parkland encompassing Apsan, Sanseongsan, and Daedeoksan mountains. It offers a variety of activities such as hiking trails, a cable car ride to an observatory with stunning panoramic views of the city. The park also features leisure facilities including archery, horseback riding, and swimming at the mountain's base.
Apsan Park is good. The cable car service is a tad bit slow but I am in no rush to enjoy nature's beauty. Amazing sight in the summer. Although I have to admit Palgongsan(Mt. Palgong is better than Apsan in terms of scenic views, amenities and services), it does not diminishes Apsan charm. It costs 9,500 Won for an adult round trip. There are alot of hiking trails to choose from if you are into trail-hiking. At Apsan Lookout Observatory, you will be able to have a birds eye view of Daegu city. Definitely worth visiting.

What a hike for this mountain. I took the patriot trail which starts from the military memorial at the bottom. Lots of steep and uneven trails. There is also a good amount of stairs near the top that make it even more tiring. The view is very well worth it when you make it to the top. I did the cable car back down. There is also a nice restaurant at the top that has an English menu.

This is a beautiful mountain which is easily accessible from most parts of Daegu! I really love visiting here during fall to see the beautiful colourful leaves, but it is a great place to visit all year round. Apsan is walkable if you like hiking and it has amazing beautiful night views, however if you are like me and enjoy taking the cable car then it is also possible for around 12,000 won! There is a restaurant and coffee shop at the top and a stunning view point!

This is located in the North part of South Korea, it is one of the famous temples over there located in the mountain. Around 1hr of trekking is required to reach the base.

This is a very beautiful temple in a spectacular setting. The giant Buddha is amazing and set off against the lush green trees. When the sky is bright blue the whole setting is gorgeous. The very short walk to the Buddha with the stream and waterfall is very relaxing.

No matter how much the civilization of the world has changed, the harmonized lines of the roof tiles of Donghwasa Temple and the lines of Palgong Mountain are still beautiful enough to take your breath away. Even a casual stroll in and around the temple will leave you feeling refreshed. But there's a thing you must be careful of. Do not visit Donghwasa Temple in October and November, when autumn is in full swing. You might have a feeling of being in heaven which can cause your mind to disembodied.

I went there 17th of August ‘22. Bus 1 dropped me off at the main centre point. From there, it's about a 15 min walk. There is a tunnel you have to go through, but there is someone there where you have to buy tickets from (3000kw) for one access. It was there at 8 am, so it was quiet. People are already praying. When you turn right, you have to walk for just 5 min, and then you find the giant Buddha statue. One thing I love about Korea is not only at this place - clean toilets everywhere, more hygienic than my hostel 😂 and you can pay with your card if you want to buy a souvenir. Worth it. It takes approx. ~ 1.5 hours, so you can combine it with the cable cart.

While chasing the dying, everywhere lacks energy; everything is muddled; everyone is confused. Especially me, all senses are closed here. I wouldn't meditate. Why did I come for this?

The rocky peak of Daegu's Gatbawi is a centuries-old religious destination, featuring steep steps leading up to a larger-than-expected Buddha statue at its summit. The well-maintained staircases make the climb manageable, with resting spots along the way for catching one's breath and taking in the beautiful views. The Gatbawi statue itself is renowned for granting wishes and draws visitors from far and wide to experience its spiritual significance.
It was pretty manageable to make it to the peak because of the well-structured staircases. I went there on the weekdays so there was no big crowds which was great in this time of crisis. The Buddha sculpture was beautiful and bigger than I thought, so I could not resist taking a photo of it.

I was recommended this place by my friend from Korea. To reach the location, I’d suggest taking a bus first, then preparing to climb a lot - and I mean a lot - of stairs. The stairs were steep and uneven, so be prepared and be careful. The weather at the top of the mountain was quite humid.

The hike up (Palgong) mountain was long & exhausting; a fun & necessary workout, nonetheless. There were resting spots where one could catch their breath & take pictures. The view from the top was stunning & so was the Gatbawi statue.

The uphill path was quite painful, but since it’s said that the Buddha of Gatbawi grants at least one wish, I endured and kept climbing. People say the path from the Daegu side is extremely tough, so I went up from the Gyeongsan side instead — but even then, it was really exhausting. If you buy candles or offering rice at Gwaneum Rest Area, you can take a one-way shuttle bus from there.

I had reached Gatbawi after halfday excursion from Deagu. Gatbawi Rock, I believe this place is one of the most memorable places of me in Korea so far. Located on top of the Gatbawi Mounting , I reached the top after climbing about 1500 stairs. You are ready to climb seriously here. Its depend on human for his/her body fitness . The path starts in one direction from the bus stop or car park. Take a short path up there some stone steps off the right - if you want it then take it. Both the main path and the narrower path the steps lead to go past two temples before the path really diverges; one small temple and one much bigger one a little higher up. The second route is on the right (the temple is up and the top is a doorway). I think it's a little tall, but the last height is the same. There is an area for prayer on top and a small shop in which trinket and water, and a toilet. But I met the Buddha statue and many people praying. There is a good sense of achievement at the top and it is a very spiritual place for all people who pray. I am not Buddhist but this place is really fascinating. So peaceful place, it was actually an important part of my visit to Korea. I will strongly advise everyone to visit this place.

Many steep steps to the stone Buddha at the top. Then a nice view on the hills and plains of Daegu if you are not absorbed in prayers
