Baba Taraknath Temple Tarakeswar

Mentioned on
1 list
Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Baba Taraknath Temple is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to the deity Shiva and serves as a significant pilgrimage site. The temple can be easily accessed by train from Howrah to Tarakeswar, with several options available throughout the day. However, visitors should be wary of individuals who may try to deceive them on their way to the temple.
Baba Taraknath Temple, located in Tarakeswar, West Bengal(~50 kms from Kolkata) is a revered Shiva temple known for its spiritual significance and serene ambiance. The temple is a hub for devotees seeking blessings of Lord Shiva, particularly on Mondays and during the holy month of Shravan, when the shrine sees a massive influx of pilgrims. The architecture of the temple is simple yet captivating, with its ancient design exuding an aura of timeless devotion. The sanctum sanctorum houses the revered Shiva Lingam, which is the focal point of worship. The atmosphere inside the temple is charged with devotion, with chants of "Har Har Mahadev" resonating throughout. The massive pond beside the temple is considered holy and is used by pilgrims to bathe in before offering jala abhishek to Lord Shiv. All devotees are allowed to get into the grabhagriha and offer jala abhishek to the Shiv Linga. The temple management should focus on maintaining cleanliness and ensuring discipline in the queues. The temple premises should be kept clean, to ensure optimal spiritual experience for devotees. Outside the temple, the bustling lanes with stalls selling flowers, incense, and other religious items enhance the cultural charm. While the area can get crowded, the vibrant energy is a testament to the temple's importance in the lives of its devotees. For those seeking spiritual solace, Baba Taraknath Temple is a must-visit destination. However, planning your visit during less crowded times can enhance the experience. The temple is not just a place of worship but a testament to WB's rich spiritual heritage.
Sourabh M — Google review
The temple is known for its spiritual ambiance, historical significance, and consistent flow of devotees throughout the year. Taraknath is believed to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva, and the site is considered very powerful by devotees. People visit to seek blessings, fulfillment of wishes, and healing. The Charak festival and Shivratri are celebrated with grandeur here. Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM Dress Code: Male devotees are required to remove their shirts and vests before entering the temple . Entry Fee: Free; however, specific rituals may have associated costs. Parking: Paid parking is available at ₹50 per day

A very tranquil place with waves of spirituality. The Mandir premises is overall clean. There is a large parking space near the mandir, just beside the Rajbari. The approach road to the temple is in good condition, but narrow. The charges are Rs 100/- per four wheeler. Lot of eateries are here around the temple. The only drawback is the unethical monetary demands of the Pandas and the priests and bullying by them. The local administration should look into the matter.

The Tarakeswar Temple in the Hooghly district of West Bengal is one of the major Shiv temples in India where one can still pour water over the Shivlinga directly by entering the sanctum/garba griha (as of September 2025). It is advisable to visit early in the morning in order to have a good darshan and pour water over the Shivlinga (say, around 7:30 am, which I did). Avoid the middlemen you meet on your way to the temple and offer puja directly inside the temple. Carry some extra clothes back from home in case you wish to take a dip in the adjoining pond (Dudh Pukur). Cleanliness can be improved. ওঁ নমঃ শিবায় । 🙏 ॐ नमः शिवाय । 🙏 Om Namo Shivay. 🙏
Punyasloka M — Google review
Given 4 Star instead of 5 because of "Pandas" who stand at railway station till temple and offer you puja. They will walk with you until you denied doing puja by Pandas and asked them that you will do puja by your own. And if you do puja by Pandas, you will definitely will be in trap as they will ask money from you after puja and you have to give whatever they will ask otherwise they will shout and create a scene at spot. So my advise (Frequently Visiter), don't listen to Pandas (Whatever they will tell to tra you), you just walk to temple, near temple you will get pradas, holy water and some flower to offer god but that and direct visit temple stand in queue and offer puja to God by yourself. Nowadays it's a business for Pandas to trap new pilgrim. Direction - Near to Railway station just 5 mins walk. Don't do auto or rickshaw they will charge 50/- for just 5mins walkable distance.

I'm Just Happy That I Was Able To Visit This Place. May Mahadev Bless Every Being. ✨🙏🏽

Visiting Tarakeswar Shiva Temple was a deeply spiritual and enriching experience. The temple has a unique charm with its traditional Bengal-style architecture and sacred atmosphere. Offering prayers to Lord Shiva here felt very special, especially knowing the temple’s centuries-old significance. The energy inside the sanctum is powerful yet peaceful, and watching the rituals being performed with such devotion was truly mesmerizing. The surrounding marketplace, filled with offerings and local delicacies, adds to the cultural vibrance of the visit. I also appreciated the devotion of the priests and the faith of the countless devotees who travel from near and far. The temple is well-organized for darshan, and the sense of serenity it brings makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking spiritual fulfillment. A visit to Tarakeswar isn’t just about worship—it’s an experience of heritage, devotion, and peace. 🌿🙏

SVF Movies Haldia is one of the best cinema halls in the region and truly offers a great movie-going experience for people of all age groups. The ambience is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with polite and helpful staff always ready to assist. The seating is cozy with ample legroom, and the sound and screen quality are impressive—making it a perfect place to enjoy your favorite movies with friends or family. As per the policy followed by almost all movie theatres, outside food is not allowed here, but their in-house food section is decent and constantly runs some kind of offer or combo deal, which is great for regular visitors. Whether you're craving popcorn, soft drinks,

SVF multiplex cinema hall, only multiplex in Haldia-Tamluk area. Thanks to SVF for creating such a nice Multiplex here for child_adult_young all categories movies experience in different Times diffrent halls. There are probably 3 screens here with different choices of movies. In mid- or end week must visit for Hall- Movie experience. Pre tickets booking available on Book My Show. If you visit Ambuja Mall , then must visit once here for a great movie experience with great sound effects and visuals on Giant screen.

It is located inside the ambuja mall . First enter into the mall straight then take a left turn to check in then enter into the hall. The toilets were clean but could be better. They provide water and 140 rs for the lowest tub of popcorn but it was good. Thank you

I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the behavior of the staff. Their conduct was extremely unprofessional and completely unacceptable. I expected a certain level of courtesy and assistance, but instead encountered rude, careless, and uncooperative behavior. This kind of attitude reflects very poorly on your establishment and seriously affects the overall experience. I hope appropriate action is taken to address this matter and ensure better service in the future.
Ashim S — Google review
Only multiplex in the heart of Haldia. Generates city like feel as it is located inside Ambuja City Centre Mall with blazing shopping mall. The price of tickets is also quite reasonable and I think affordable for all classes. Sound system is also quite good. Must visit for all ages and groups.
Asit S — Google review
Staff behavior is very bad. A specific guy talks very rudely to all people. Has very much attitude and dont know what he thinks of himself. Very disappointed and dissatisfied. No staff knows how to be humble and kind. Hospitality is a myth here!
Andriya M — Google review
Screen size and sound is great. Snacks are also budget friendly. However, auditorium is not so clean and lack of maintenance is visible. Dirt and dust are there. Also back push seat would have been great.
Anindya J — Google review
Very poor screen quality. Whereas they take huge amount of ticket price. Recently I went for Mahavatar Narasimha. It was a 3D movie but we cannot enjoy the 3D quality because of their disgusting screen. It's so much gloomy. Just spoiled our movie time. Even they has rated 200 bucks for per ticket. Kindly look after the matter. It's so dark screen. Quality movie should not be distributed to this multiplex.

Beautiful heritage property, well maintained. I spent a good quality time with my family. Authentic bengali royal thali served which was superb.. If you want to spend a holiday with royal ambience please visit Rajbari.
SUCHARITA H — Google review
The location is the best and undoubtedly the rooms are filled with royalty and are equally huge but when it comes to maintenance,it's pathetic and especially if you're opting of an extra bed, you'll find mice under the sofa cum bed all day. The food is good but they'll forget to provide your complimentary water bottles but bill you for extra bottles. Please go through the bill thoroughly.
Avik M — Google review
Short review: You'll have a negative experience, opt for literally any other place. Long review: Let's talk about the good things first: People of the service industry are very good and well natured. The rooms are visually pretty, if you don't plan on staying there. Bathroom is also good. Onto the long list of bad things: The managerial staff's behaviour is appalling, but not more than the absolute irresponsibility of the owners. The food options were criminally limited, and the three days we stayed were full of potatoes and a couple of disastrous food items. The "complimentary breakfast" isn't really complimentary when half the things don't arrive on time, or when they get over. The 2 ACs in our suite were damaged. One had water falling from it, the other one's flap was damaged. The most unnerving part of the stay is the lack of wifi. There is no wifi, even though my phone could detect some 2-3 routers in the property. The owners living upstairs have their wifis, but the same courtesy has not been extended to guests paying unnecessarily extra amount of money to stay in the property. The behaviour of the temple staff on property was mean spirited as well. We had problems after problems, and not once did the owners deem it polite or courteous to address anything. There aren't enough things to visit near the rajbari anyway, so I advice you to choose another place. Overpriced and basically a scam. They took even the gst amount when we booked, but our stay was after the gst rules had changed. We had to argue for half an hour before they agreed to return the extra gst amount.
Diksha G — Google review
We had originally booked a 3-night stay in December last year, which we unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute due to a friend's emergency surgery. At the time, we were informed that while a refund could not be issued, our booking amount would be kept open and could be used for a future stay, subject to availability. However, when we called on 16th June to rebook for the first weekend of September, we were told that no rooms were available due to "peak season" and that it was too late to book. This was quite surprising — over two and a half months in advance hardly qualifies as a last-minute request, and the first weekend of September, three weeks before the Puja holidays, being labeled as peak season seems questionable. Frankly, it feels like if we hadn’t already paid, availability would not have been an issue. We are disappointed by how this has been handled. We expected a more reasonable and accommodating approach, especially under the circumstances. The person who responded to my call today said that the policy of availing the alternative dates before April was communicated to us. That is not true. Nothing about availing the dates before April was told, and as the whatsapp communication attached shows - no reply was given nor any policy regarding re-booking before April was messaged. It would not have been possible though, because the person who underwent the surgery has very recently recovered and is fit to travel. But such haughty people in hospitality service is not concerned about that of course - as long as they get to keep the money and can stick to their policy.

Mandarmani Beach, located in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal, is a popular destination known for its expansive shoreline and vibrant red sand crabs. Tourists from all over the country, especially from Kolkata, visit this clean beach to enjoy activities like swimming, banana boat rides, and jet skiing. Accessible by road or rail, with Contai being the nearest railway station, visitors can hire taxis or cabs to reach the picturesque coastal village.
One of the most beautiful sea beach I've ever seen. One should come here to enjoy the serene, deserted vibe of a sea beach. There are a few small shops here where one can have sipping coconut water alongwith enjoy the picturesque view of this dreamy sea beach. Some resorts and hotels are also available near this beach. If someone loves serenity and peace, then it's the perfect place to enjoy for them .
Debarati S — Google review
Mandarmani Beach: A Serene Weekend Escape with a Dash of Adventure Mandarmani has firmly established itself as one of the most popular weekend getaways from Kolkata, offering a calmer and often cleaner alternative to the bustling crowds of Digha. It strikes an excellent balance between a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and the thrill of adventure sports, making it ideal for families, couples, and groups of friends. The Beach and Atmosphere The main draw of Mandarmani is its impressively long and flat beach. It's famous for being one of the longest motorable beaches in India, and the hard-packed sand creates a unique, expansive landscape, especially during low tide. The atmosphere is generally serene and laid-back. While it's no longer an undiscovered secret, it remains significantly less crowded than Digha, allowing for peaceful walks and private space. The beach is also known for being relatively clean, and you can often spot countless red crabs scuttling along the sand near the 'mohana' (river delta) at the end of the main beach stretch. Things to Do Mandarmani caters to both those looking to relax and those seeking a thrill: Water Sports: The beach is a hub for a variety of water sports. You'll find vendors offering everything from high-speed Jet Ski rides and group Banana Boat rides to exhilarating Parasailing for a bird's-eye view of the coastline. Beach Activities: ATV rides are extremely popular, allowing you to race along the vast expanse of the beach. You can also simply relax at one of the many beachside shacks, enjoying fresh coconut water and delicious seafood. Relax and Unwind: The primary activity for many is simply to enjoy the sea breeze, watch the stunning sunrises and sunsets, and take long, leisurely walks. Travel from Kolkata Getting to Mandarmani is quite straightforward: By Car: This is the fastest and most convenient option, taking approximately 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic. The roads are generally in good condition, though the final stretch leading to the hotels can be narrow. By Bus: Several private and state-run buses ply daily from Kolkata to Mandarmani (Chaulkhola). The journey takes about 4 to 5 hours and is a very affordable option. By Train: The nearest major railway station is Kanthi (Contai). From there, you'll need to hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw for the remaining 30-45 minute journey to the beach. Overall Verdict Mandarmani is an excellent choice for a quick and refreshing coastal escape. It offers a more tranquil environment than its neighbours without being completely isolated. The combination of a beautiful, clean beach, a wide array of activities, and easy accessibility from Kolkata makes it a top-tier destination for a memorable weekend trip.

The beach is very dirty. The sea is calm and waves are not more than 2 foot in height. It was good to see the Siren was blowing during high rise.
Susanta S — Google review
Splendid sea beach to enjoy vacation with family and friends. Not overcrowded like Digha sea beach.
GOUTAM S — Google review
Mandarmani is one of the most beautiful beach I've ever been to. Sandy beach with lots of crabs and star fishes to swim with. Even in the days of storms, it's mesmerizing and beautiful. The local food is amazing and lots of restaurants to go to. Be mindful to swim with caution. The beach does not have lifeguards.
Vishaka T — Google review
A peaceful and clean beach near Kolkata, great for relaxation, long walks, and seeing red crabs. The sea is calm and safe for families. However, some areas lack cleanliness and nightlife, and resort quality varies. ⭐ Rating: 4/5 — perfect for a quiet weekend getaway, not for parties or luxury.
RAJIBUL I — Google review
One of the best beaches in East India if not the best. The beach is has a huge length so there are plenty of hotels and you will always find rooms. The beach is also very good for bathing so everyone can enjoy bathing in the sea. There are multiple water recreational activities available so the more adventurous people can always have fun here. The hotels are situated on the beach so you dont even have to walk, one step and you are on beach. Moreover there are multiple shacks available where you can have food and alcohol. You can go to the shacks and see live fish and chicken, then choose as per your likings and they will cook it for you as per your instructions. You can sit on the shack having alcohol and food enjoying the sea infront of you. There are multiple types of hotels from 5star to budget friendly ones available all along the shore line so you can choose as per your likings. Moreover since alcohol and food is allowed on the beach in shacks you will have a Goa type experience here at much lesser cost. Crabs, hilsa, chicken, mutton to even exotic fishes and meats are available in the shacks here so you will be spoilt for choices. Definitely visit this beach once.

Digha Beach, often referred to as New Digha Beach, is a stunning destination along the shores of the Bay of Bengal that beckons travelers with its golden sands and gentle waves. Spanning approximately 7 kilometers, this beach is perfect for leisurely walks, swimming in its inviting waters, or simply soaking up the sun while enjoying breathtaking sunsets. The vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by nearby seafood stalls and food vendors offering delicious local cuisine.
What a great experience. The beach is located just at the railway station. Long beach experience. Seating area also available. Big beach ⛱️ . Transportation is also very easy. Many activities like boat and horse 🐎 available. Finally very enjoy
Mehdi A — Google review
Everything about this place is quite pleasant, except for the sea itself. The water here is a dirty black color, which takes away from the otherwise beautiful coastal setting. However, the infrastructure near the shore is well-developed. You’ll find seating areas, stalls, and other amenities that make the visit comfortable and convenient. For those seeking a bit of adventure, boat rides are also available, and they’re definitely worth trying for the experience and scenic views. When comparing the two nearby beaches—Old Digha and New Digha—Old Digha beach stands out as the better option. The shoreline there is cleaner and more suitable for a relaxing walk or even dipping your feet in the water. New Digha beach, on the other hand, is filled with large rocks, which make swimming or walking along the shore quite difficult and even risky in places. Despite that, New Digha has its own appeal—it boasts two large and beautifully maintained parks. These green spaces provide a refreshing change from the beach and are great spots for families, children, or anyone looking to unwind amidst nature. Overall, while the sea may not be ideal, the amenities, boat rides, and contrasting features of Old and New Digha beaches make the area worth exploring.

Great Beach. For the first time visitor( not so crowded like Chennai and Mumbai, beaches,) no car parking in other locations, finally we reached this location near to the sea beach with sufficient parking space.
Travelling T — Google review
I have been to Puri, Vizag, Chennai and Pondicherry and I can say that "Digha" is India's worst beach. Entire beach is rock beach and there is unnecessary crowd in a very small beach. But there are lots of food options in old digha beach if you want to take out atleast something from digha trip. You should consider puri or vizag if you want good beach vibes.
Harsh P — Google review
Digha Beach is one of the most famous beaches in West Bengal, and a lot of people come here from both West Bengal and Odisha. The beach gets very crowded, especially on weekends. The sea water is not very clean, so if you are planning to bathe, be careful while entering the water. There are stones in the shallow area, and it suddenly gets deep, which can hurt your legs. So take care while going in and coming out of the sea. Apart from this, the beach is nice to spend time at. There is boating available, and you can enjoy a boat ride. Outside the beach, there are many food shops where you can try local food. Hotel prices are a bit high. We were six people and stayed for about 5-6 hours during the daytime, and they charged us ₹3500. We checked 5-6 hotels, and all were charging almost the same. So if you are planning to visit with your family on weekends, it is better to book a hotel in advance. Nearby, there is Jagannath Dham, which you can also visit. Overall, we enjoyed our trip a lot.
Nitesh S — Google review
Not as vibrant as beaches like Goa, and may not be ideal for those seeking extensive nearby attractions or a lively beach scene but it's budget friendly and i love this place.

Visited Digha a few months ago with my husband — the beach was beautiful, the waves were romantic, and the crowd? Let’s just say it felt like half of Kolkata came with us on our honeymoon! 😅 We tried to take a peaceful walk, but ended up playing find your feet in the sand. Still, had a great time — the sea, the snacks, and my husband’s fake bargaining skills made it a memorable trip!

The area offers an amusement park with attractions like toy trains and boat rides, making it a hit with kids. The beach is wonderful. It gives amazing experience. The beach offers a various sorts of rides such as bike riding, horse riding. The seating arrangement is also available at the beach. The were various food stalls from where you can get all types of sea food. This is also good for photos. The beach is not crowded and you can click some amazing pictures. There also some souvenir sold at this place and you can buy for your friends and family.

Beautiful sea beach filled with lots and lots of tourists. We sat there for hours only to enjoy the picturesque view of the beach. According to locals, this beach is not good for decent tourists after evening as there are some people who drink alcohol and do substance abuse there(we went there in the morning, so we did not experienced any of these though). We bought cashew nuts there also at quite an affordable price and those were of premium quality.
Debarati S — Google review
The place is good but if you are expecting a good clean and clear arrangement of beach side sitting place then it's not for you. You can seat by the side of sea and enjoy your food. But all the left over and garbages will come to you feet. Live music, live sea food cooking is there but you can't expect a hygiene. Boat service is available there. Not sure about the price.

Udaypur Sea Beach is one of the most vibrant and picturesque beaches near Digha. It attracts a large number of tourists every day, thanks to its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The beach is wide, clean, and perfect for spending a relaxing day with friends or family. One of the highlights here is the variety of handmade items made from seashells, stones, and other sea materials — a great place to buy unique souvenirs and local crafts. It’s also an amazing spot for photography, with the blue waves, golden sand, and colorful stalls creating a stunning backdrop. 📸 In the morning, you’ll find local fishermen selling fresh fish and crabs straight from the sea. By evening, small food stalls set up along the shore, offering deliciously cooked seafood — a treat you shouldn’t miss! 🐟🦀 For adventure lovers, horse riding along the beach is another exciting experience that makes your visit even more memorable. Overall, Udaypur Sea Beach is a wonderful blend of nature, culture, and local life — perfect for sightseeing, relaxation, and great food.

Udaypur Sea Beach is located on Odisha - Bengal border, nestled between New Digha and Talsari. It is around 2kms from New Digha and is easily accessible via road. Toto is easily available from Digha to Udaypur beach. Rates: 30 per person on sharing and 100 for reserve Toto. The beach is dirty and filthy. The water stinks and if you come out of the water, you will feel a greasy sticky layer on your skin. There are temporary stalls on the beach serving beer and sea food, but there ain’t any shack nearby. I would not recommend visiting Udaypur Beach, Puri has better beachfront than this.

Digha is one of the most popular beach destinations in West Bengal and truly a wonderful place to visit. The long sandy beach, rolling sea waves, and peaceful atmosphere make it a perfect getaway for everyone—families, couples, or friends. A morning walk by the sea feels refreshing, and the sunset view is absolutely mesmerizing. Fresh seafood is easily available here and quite affordable. Nearby attractions like New Digha, Udaipur Beach, and Marine Drive make the trip even more enjoyable. If you are looking for a short weekend trip filled with natural beauty, good food, and relaxation, Digha is definitely the perfect destination.

Chandaneswar Shiva Temple

Mentioned on

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Chandaneswar Shiva Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is renowned for its stunning architecture. It attracts a large number of devotees, especially during the Maha Shivaratri Festival. The temple premises are well-maintained, but visitors should be cautious of scams in the parking area. The temple complex houses several smaller temples, and visitors can find amenities such as vegetarian restaurants and accommodations nearby.
We went to Chandaneshwar Shiva temple from Telami High School on Monday at 5:00 A.M. The temple was neat and clean. There were many sweet shops, milk shops, and coconut shops for Puja at RS 20. The pond around the temple was neat and clean and many people were bathing before going to puja. You can give puja to several Brahmins sitting beside the temple. There was a long line for going into the main Shiva temple to give water to the Shiva idol. When you enter the temple there is a rush in the temple and in a few seconds you have to give the coconut water on shiv's idol and go out. There were many low prices handicrafts shops, showpiece shops beside the temple gate . I recommend going to the temple on the weekend and you will feel great and energetic. And there was also a man standing for selling tickets for a special visit. But I say it is a waste of money you stand for only 10-15 minutes and you will enter the temple.

I recently visited Chandaneswar Temple, located near the Odisha–West Bengal border, just 8 km from Digha. It’s a peaceful and spiritually rich place dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the entry is completely free. The temple has a traditional vibe and attracts many devotees, especially during festivals. However, some areas could be better maintained, and a few locals may approach you for donations or offerings. Still, it’s a must-visit if you’re nearby and looking for a calm, devotional experience.
Paulami D — Google review
Chandaneswar Shiva Temple is a sacred and spiritually enriching place, often visited by devotees and tourists traveling to Digha or Mandarmani. Located just a few kilometers from Digha, it’s easily accessible by Toto (electric rickshaw) or private car. Do note that the temple lies within the Odisha border, so if you’re driving a private vehicle, make sure you carry all valid car documents to avoid any issues at the border check. While the temple experience is serene, visitors should be cautious of panda (priest) scams, which are unfortunately quite common. It’s best to avoid unsolicited offers and only approach a registered panda or priest if you wish to perform a puja (ritual). Offering prayers here is absolutely free — donations are completely voluntary and depend on your own wish. A peaceful visit to this divine temple can truly complete your coastal trip to Digha or Mandarmani.

🕉️🌄 My Experience at Chandaneswar Shiva Temple – A Morning of Devotion & Realities 🌄🕉️ A few days ago, I visited the famous Chandaneswar Shiva Temple during the early morning hours. The temple complex is beautifully maintained — neat, peaceful, and full of spiritual energy. There’s also a small pond inside, adding to the serene charm of the surroundings. Around the temple, many shops are set up, and all the arrangements for offering puja are available. But beyond the sacred atmosphere, there’s another side you can’t ignore. Almost every step of the way, there seemed to be people looking for chances to take money from visitors. You need to be careful — stay alert and don’t fall into anyone’s trap. Unfortunately, what should be a place of pure devotion has, for some, turned into a business opportunity. It felt like the spirit of devotion has been overshadowed by greed in some corners. Despite that, I tried to focus on the positive. One beautiful and unique sight was the large number of sacred bulls (sar goru) around the temple — some so massive and majestic that it truly felt like Lord Shiva’s own Nandi had come down to bless the devotees. They move freely among the people, and it adds a mythical, magical touch to the place. Overall, it was a mixed experience — spiritually uplifting, visually peaceful, yet a bit disturbed by the commercialization around it. Still, I’m glad I visited and witnessed it all with open eyes and an open heart.

Bhole Baba Mandir in Chandaneshwar holds a remarkable place in the hearts of devotees due to its deep rooted history. The legend that Bhole Baba’s ‘Shivling’ emerged from the ground decades ago has solidified a strong belief among the people. Another miraculous event attributed to this temple is the appearance of milk out of nowhere, which occurred many years back, transforming what was once a small shrine into the large and well-known mandir it is today. Visiting during the holy month of Saavan is a unique experience as the temple becomes extremely crowded with devotees, reflecting the temple’s immense popularity and spiritual significance. At the entrance, you can purchase coupon tickets that include prashad, and for those who wish, the pujari offers special puja services for a generous offering, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere. Om Namah Shivaay 🙏

Holy place near Digha, big hindu temples full of devotion, no panda or puja pressure. There are many big cows.

The Temple has multiple gods like Jagannath, Radha Krishna but main is Shiva. There is a pond which is a little bit dirty. You have to remove your shoes before entering the Temple.

If someone comes to Digha, you can take the auto from there and come to the Chandneswar temple. It is regarded as the great and awakened temple of Hinduism. If someone is mindful, it must be full. Those who pay homage to devotion must come to this temple. The rent from Digha to the temple is 30 bucks but sometimes it is low.

Talsari beach is a serene and unspoiled coastal retreat with tranquil waters and an extensive expanse of untouched white sand. The natural beauty of this beach is breathtaking, offering affordable accommodation options and an uncrowded atmosphere. This peaceful haven boasts stunning views that are sure to captivate any visitor. It is home to vibrant red crabs that add to the uniqueness of this location.
A Calm Retreat: My Visit to Talsari Sea Beach with Friends If you like the quieter aspect of nature, far from the commercial mayhem of mainstream destinations, Talsari Sea Beach in Odisha is a treasure waiting to be unearthed. I recently traveled to this quiet beach, and it provided one of the calmest coastal outings I've enjoyed in a very long time. Situated close to the Odisha-West Bengal border, Talsari is not your run-of-the-mill beach with blaring music, water sports, and hordes of food stalls. Rather, it greets you with tranquil waters, soft waves, and a peaceful silence that's almost meditative. The sea here is not very deep, and at low tide, you can actually walk quite far out on the uncovered seabed. The sight of fishing boats and red crabs scuttling on the sand adds to the beauty. One of the most distinctive features is the line of palm and casuarina trees along the beach. They give the perfect amount of shade and add to the scenery. The dawn break is just breathtaking — it's the sort of moment you'd like to freeze and not let go of. There are some local stalls along the beach selling fresh seafood, particularly prawns and crabs. It's not glamorous, but it's real and tasty. Although accommodations are simple, they're clean and cheap, so it's a good choice for weekend trips. Talsari is perfect for those who wish to slow down and get closer to nature. It's not constructed for adventure seekers, but for anyone yearning for peaceful moments, leisurely walks, and a whiff of salt air, it's ideal.
Uttam D — Google review
It's way too beautiful to describe . Take a note:- If you like quite beach to enjoy the nature and also your own company then this is for you. To get the most beautiful experience, visit this place when the low tide is on its peak , the sound of waves and breeze enjoy it with the scenic beauty of boats anchored by the beach. Now comes the most important part during low tide you would experience the flying sand just over the ground which makes the place breathtaking and not less being in the heaven. Also the red hand crabs, those are so wonderful (I forgot to record them ). Just excuse my video making skills but experience in real is the best!!

Talsari Beach is a peaceful and beautiful getaway on the Odisha coast, known for its calm waters and scenic palm-lined shore. The nearby local fish market and boat rides made the experience richer.

Khirachora Gopinath Temple is less about sightseeing and more about feeling. It’s a sacred corner of Odisha that offers solace, sweetness (quite literally), and a profound spiritual resonance. Whether you’re drawn by its mythology, its connection to Lord Chaitanya, or simply its legendary prasad, this temple leaves an imprint on your soul. Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.8/5) Best Time to Visit: Early morning or during evening aarti Tip: Don’t miss the khira prasad and try to learn the story behind it—it brings the entire temple experience to life. The temple is especially famous for its unique 'Amrita-Khira', a sweet milk preparation offered to the deity and later distributed as prasad. It's believed that even Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu visited this temple in the 16th century and was deeply moved by its divine presence and the story of Gopinath "stealing" khira for his devotee Madhavendra Puri.
Prem M — Google review
Khirachora Gopinath Temple, Balasore – Where Myth, Devotion, and Sweetness Blend In the heart of Balasore lies one of Odisha’s most iconic temples — the Khirachora Gopinath Temple at Remuna. This shrine is not just a place of worship; it’s a fascinating mix of devotion, mythology, and, quite literally, sweetness. Dedicated to Lord Krishna in his Gopinath form, the temple is steeped in stories that still melt the hearts of devotees. First Impressions: Walking into the temple complex, you’re struck by its peaceful simplicity. Unlike grand stone structures, the charm of Khirachora Gopinath lies in its serenity. The air is filled with the fragrance of incense and the soft hum of bhajans — it feels like a place where time slows down and devotion takes over. The Sweet Legend: The temple gets its name “Khirachora” — literally meaning “the one who stole kheer (sweetened condensed milk).” Legend has it that Lord Krishna himself stole kheer offered here, symbolizing his deep bond with devotees. Even today, the famous Amrita Keli khir, prepared with meticulous devotion, is the temple’s signature prasad. Pilgrims and visitors queue patiently, knowing they are about to taste not just a sweet dish but centuries of tradition and faith. Interesting Facts: The temple was built in the 13th century by King Langula Narasimha Deva, a patron of Odisha’s temple architecture. The deity here was originally brought from Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, by King Langula Narasimha Deva. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the great saint and proponent of the Bhakti movement, visited this temple during his travels and spent time in deep devotion here. The Amrita Keli khir is still prepared using the traditional recipe, making it a must-try for anyone visiting Remuna. Final Verdict: The Khirachora Gopinath Temple is more than a religious stop; it is an experience that blends spirituality with legend, history, and a taste of divine sweetness. For travelers, it’s a cultural gem of Balasore; for devotees, it’s a reminder that the Lord can be as mischievous as he is merciful. Either way, this temple leaves both your soul and your sweet tooth satisfied.

Kuldiha wildlife sanctuary is approximately 30 km away from Panchalingeswar in Odisha. Visited recently at the time of Holi. Great experience with feeling of jungle without the usual crowd of tourists. Personal vehicles are allowed inside sanctuary but you need a local guide as many areas in the forest are declared as core area & no entry zone. Guide has to be arranged from Balasore or Panchalingeswar, not provided by forest Dept. Spotted many giant squirrels playing in the trees. This jungle is natural habitat of giant squirrels. Lot of birds to excite all nature lovers. Lucky to spot a Crested serpant eagle. One can stay deep inside the jungle in spacious tents at Rissia Nature camp. Books is online. Best time to see animals is early morning and afternoon till sunset. Entry time 7 AM onwards, exit time 5 PM.

Temple is very good and peaceful. But be very very careful with the priests there, they are horribly commercial to the core and will try to take maximum money. My suggestion is to not even talk to them, just pray to God spend some time and come out. Avoid talking to any priests there!!!

Maa Biraja temple is one of the Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas that is situated in Jajpur Town. It is also known as Viraja Kshetra. Maa Durga is the principal deity here, who was worshiped as Maa Biraja. As it was one of the Shakti peethas, people from various states of India came here to worship Maa Biraja. You can easily come here, by any mode of transport. The nearest railway station to here is the Jajpur Road Railway Station. From there you can easily get buses which will lead you directly to the Biraja Temple. The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar. From there you can also get buses to Jajpur town. And you can get auto-rickshaw facilities to reach the temple. As I have visited the temple on a weekday from Jajpur road, I have to pay 70 rupees for the bus to reach there. After that, I reached there and there was not much crowd, which I had not expected. Then we took the darshan of Maa Biraja, and visited all the temples of various Goddesses all around the main temple. Navigaya temple, Baba Baidyanath temple, Hanuman temple and 54 Mahadev temple are some of the temples that are present inside. The temple's environment is very calm and there are no entry fees. The temple timings are 5:30 A.M.-1:30 P.M. and again 3 P.M.- 10 P.M. Timings may differ during festivals. Mobile phones are allowed inside the temple. You can have prasad inside the temple for 100 rupees only. The timing of the prasad is 12 P.M. to 2 P.M.

Har Har Mahadev Chandrasekhar Mahadev Temple is one of best natural place for Devotees. You have to climb 1352 stone steps to reach the temple from the starting point. Nowdays a road was built and devotees easily came to the temple with their vehicle. All pilgrims should buy their Bhogs( Cocunut, banana etc) from the nearby market. Because prices of puja bhogs are so costly near by temple. Beware of Monkeys.

The loftiest peak of the Kapilas range enshrines the temple of Lord Shiva, Chandrasekhar, at a height of approximately 457 meters. King Narasinghdeva I of Ganga Dynasty constructed the temple for Sri Chandrasekhar in 1246 CE. This sacred site is identified with Kailash, the legendary abode of Lord Shiva. A flight of 1,351 steps and a ghat road lead to the temple. Thousands of devoted souls throng to Kapilas on Mahashivaratri, the night dedicated to Lord Shiva, which falls in February or March & August. The hill features several caves and the ruins of a medieval fort, both of which are regularly visited by pilgrims. Some of these caves are associated with Puranic legends, adding to their appeal for visitors. Kapilas is also historically linked to Shridhar Swami, the renowned commentator of the Bhagavata Purana, and Mahima Gosain, the founder of the Mahima Cult. This temple is a beautiful and historically significant site, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in Indian culture and history. The intricate carvings and architecture are truly stunning—a must-see for any temple enthusiast. The serene atmosphere, combined with the lush greenery surrounding the temple, makes it an ideal spot for spiritual contemplation and peace of mind. A must-visit destination for Spiritual and architecture enthusiasts! For Shoe Stand - ₹10 per Head Bike Parking - ₹20 4 Wheeler - ₹40

Odisha State Maritime Museum, Cuttack

Military Museums
The Odisha State Maritime Museum in Cuttack is dedicated to showcasing the region's maritime heritage. Visitors can view various ship equipment, such as compasses and maps, as well as model boats and exhibits on boat-making processes. The museum also features an aquarium and a 4D cinema that synchronizes seat movements with video footage for an immersive experience. Admission prices are reasonable, with parking available for two-wheelers at a small fee.
This place is peaceful, well-maintained, and truly unique. It showcases Odisha’s rich maritime history in a very simple and engaging way. The best part is the old Jobra Workshop, which was once used to build and repair boats during the British period. The galleries display ancient boats, navigation tools, and models that show how Odisha had strong trade links with other countries in the past. The museum is spacious, informative, and perfect for both adults and students. The small aquarium and the beautiful riverside view make the visit even more refreshing. It also has a Aquarium with many kinds fishes and a mirror maze. If you love history or want to learn something new in a calm environment, this place is definitely worth visiting.

The Museum is very captivating. Please keep in mind to have at least an hour and half in your hand to enjoy it well. One can enjoy the museum with just the general admission tickets. However, I would recommend adding aquarium and mirror maze to the mix. The 3D show is not worth the money spent. The aquarium has a great collection of fishes and the mirror maze is great. The collection of historical artifacts is also awesome. The park is kids friendly and the whole museum is disability friendly. I would either recommend the morning time or 3pm to ensure you end up seeing everything by 5 pm!

The museum is by far millennium city Cuttack’s one of the best tourist attractions. The maritime museum came up in the old dilapidated complex of “River Boat Construction and Repair Workshop” constructed during the British era. The workshop was renovated and renovated and converted into the present day Odisha State Maritime Museum in 2013. The exhibits of the museum give an insight into the ancient Odisha’s famed maritime industry. On display are the tools used by the Sadhabas (or seafarers), age old navigation systems and its evolution. The chief attractions are the wooden boat replica’s, the huge boat shed and the lathe which was the largest in Asia during its time. The addition of the 4D shows along with the aquarium section to the museum is a huge draw especially for the kids. But the cost of the visit to Aquarium at Rs.50/- is not justified. There is also a Mirror Maze @Rs.20/- for single entry.

Who are we to rate Maa Chandi temple. She is beyond all. But if we have to give then it’s the highest stars. The energy at temple can be felt easily if we are little bit aware. Its mesmerising. Chandi Maa is very attractive. A must visit if you are in Cuttack. Seems like some renovation work going on around temple but it cannot disturb the awesomeness of this temple.

Maa Cuttack Chandi Mandir is not just a temple – it's an emotion for the people of Cuttack and all devotees who visit. The spiritual aura here is truly powerful and comforting. The moment you enter the premises, there's an unexplainable sense of peace and positivity that surrounds you. The idol of Maa Chandi is so divine and vibrant, it instantly fills your heart with devotion. The temple is known for its deep-rooted traditions and is especially vibrant during Navratri and Durga Puja, when thousands of devotees gather to seek Maa's blessings. Even on regular days, the temple remains lively with chants, bhajans, and the sound of bells. The priests are humble and guide you through the rituals with ease. You also get to receive prasad, which feels like a blessing in itself – simple, sacred, and satisfying. What makes the experience even more special is how deeply connected locals feel to the temple – it’s not just a place of worship, but a part of their everyday lives. Whether it’s seeking blessings before starting something new or simply finding a moment of peace, Maa Chandi Mandir is always there with open arms. Yes, it does get crowded on Thursdays and festival days, but that only shows the immense faith people have. The management usually handles the crowd quite well, and local police are helpful during festive times. If you ever visit Cuttack, this temple should be at the top of your list. The blessings you receive and the inner peace you feel after visiting Maa Cuttack Chandi Mandir is something that stays with you forever.

Nandankanan Zoological Park, located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is a sprawling 437-hectare zoo and botanical garden established in 1960. It's home to over 1,500 animals including white tigers and pangolins. The park offers various attractions such as boating, safaris featuring white tigers, lions, bears and herbivores, a reptile park, zoo museum, orchid house and an aquarium.
A Wonderful Experience at Nandankanan Zoological Park! Nandankanan is truly one of the best places to visit in Bhubaneswar. The zoo is very well maintained, clean, and surrounded by beautiful greenery. It’s not just a zoo but also a botanical garden with a peaceful environment and a natural lake inside. You can see a wide variety of animals, birds, and reptiles — especially the white tigers, lions, and elephants which are amazing to watch. The toy train and boating facilities add extra fun for families and children. The staff are polite and take good care of the animals. It’s a perfect place for nature lovers and a great spot for photography too. Highly recommended for a day trip with friends or family — a place where you can enjoy nature and wildlife together! 🌿🐅🦜

Visiting Nandankanan Zoological Park was an incredibly refreshing and memorable experience for me. Situated on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the park felt less like a traditional zoo and more like a sprawling natural forest, offering a rare sense of openness and tranquility. From the moment I entered, I was struck by the abundance of greenery and the spacious layout, which allowed the animals to roam freely in environments that closely resembled their natural habitats. Unlike many crowded zoos, here the animals appeared genuinely cared for, and it was heartening to see them move around comfortably rather than pacing anxiously behind bars. One of the most unforgettable moments for me was seeing the white tigers up close. Having only seen them in photos before, watching their powerful and majestic stride in real life left me in awe. The lion safari and herbivore safari added an adventurous dimension to the visit, making me feel immersed in the wild rather than merely observing animals from a distance. Additionally, the aquarium and reptile house were fascinating, especially for someone curious about aquatic and exotic species, offering insights into the diversity of life beyond terrestrial animals. What impressed me the most was the serene atmosphere. The park was clean, well-organized, and calm, allowing me to enjoy long, leisurely walks while soaking in the beauty of nature. Nandankanan Zoological Park was more than just a zoo—it felt like a peaceful retreat into the wilderness, leaving me with lasting memories.

Visited after 5 years and so much has changed in a good way. Will recommend getting the electric ride ( for group) and the guide (Aditya). The guide actually made the whole day a very fun experience. Such a chill guy and very knowledgeable about each species of animal. Overall the environment was clean with no litter anywhere. Will recommend visiting after December 21st as some new animal enclosure are being constructed at the moment. Do not miss the bird sanctuary hidden away behind the chained doors.

Nandankanan Zoo is an amazing place to visit! I got to see a wide variety of animals like tigers, lions, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, deer, snakes, and even a honey badger. The zoo is well-maintained and offers a great experience for both wildlife lovers and families. Apart from the animals, I also tried some adventure activities like the train ride and zip-lining, which made the visit even more exciting. It’s a perfect mix of fun, learning, and adventure. Truly a must-visit spot in Bhubaneswar!

We visited this zoo recently and had a really nice experience overall. The entry ticket cost was ₹50 per person. We also booked a private safari vehicle for ₹1600, which was for 1 hour. A guide accompanied us throughout the ride and gave clear and interesting explanations about the animals and the zoo. During the safari, we got to see tigers, lions, birds, reptiles, and monkeys — it was a beautiful and memorable experience. 🐅🦁🦜🐍🐒 I also bought a fridge magnet for ₹150, which I personally felt was a bit expensive. Parking charges for a 4-wheeler were ₹50. Overall, it’s a great place to visit with family and friends, especially if you love animals and want to learn more about them. The guided safari made the trip even more enjoyable! 🦓🌿✨

Takes 4-5 hours. Better to go on your self if alone. It takes 80 for Battery Vehicle and 120 for AC Safari bus. Staff is helpful to make you understand how to manoeuvre through. Don’t overly trust the guides. Entry ticket can be bought online but Safari and others have to booked at the gate only. No plastic bottles etc allowed inside.

It's a huge one, so be prepared to have and exhaustive walk, if possible day selection should be suitable in terms of climate and have suitable clothing to avoid any dehydration. Free RO water is available at every corner. But remember any disposable item is not allowed inside. We were having usual fridge bottles which is allowed for bisleri bottle I guess they charge some amount or deposit to make sure you don't throw them inside. And snacks in plastic wrappers to be converted into a paper bag 5rs/ paper bag. Traim ride was not available during our visit but ropeway was fun. They have safari in bus (sort of 30 seater) which I find unusual and probably not so fun. We bought the ticket but skipped the safari as the place was overcrowded and safari in a big bus is not so encouraging. You can see all sort of tigers in the captivity including white one. The best thing we like is Giraffes

The intricate architecture and the detailed carvings are absolutely breathtaking, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. It was fascinating to witness the rituals and ceremonies performed with such devotion and precision. The atmosphere surrounding the temple creates a feeling of serenity, allowing for moments of introspection. Overall, a visit to this temple is a must for anyone seeking a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage.

What can I say about Lingaraj Temple, it has such a good history. You can google it anywhere. You will find its history at every place. When was it built, how was it built, where was it built? But I will tell you about the management here. I liked the management here. Now see, the thing is that when you go to keep your shoes or phone here, they will ask you for money and A don't know they charge ₹20 for keeping the phone. They also charge ₹20 for shoes.. I don't know why they do this, I feel that this should be a free service and we should give as much as we wish. After going inside this temple, you will see Lord Shiva. Here inside this temple, you will find many gods. If you want, you can also see them there.

Lingaraj Temple is one of the most famous and ancient temples in Odisha, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in the 11th century, it is a masterpiece of Kalinga architecture with its towering spire, intricate carvings, and grand layout. The temple complex has many smaller shrines, and the main deity is worshipped as Harihara, a combined form of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The spiritual atmosphere inside is powerful and deeply moving, and thousands of devotees visit daily. The temple is not only a religious center but also an architectural wonder that reflects Odisha’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

The Lingaraj Temple, nestled in the heart of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. As one of the finest examples of Kalinga architecture, it offers a deep spiritual aura and architectural brilliance that leaves both devotees and tourists mesmerized. Architecture & Atmosphere: Dating back to the 11th century (with parts possibly even older), the temple is a sprawling complex made of intricately carved sandstone. The towering deula (main spire) stands at over 180 feet and dominates the Bhubaneswar skyline. The craftsmanship is extraordinary—every wall, pillar, and gateway tells stories from Hindu mythology through detailed carvings. The temple complex is well-maintained and consists of over 60 smaller shrines, each with its own significance. The symmetry, layout, and sheer scale evoke a sense of grandeur and reverence. Spiritual Experience: Dedicated to Lord Shiva in his form as Harihara (a fusion of Shiva and Vishnu), the temple draws thousands of pilgrims each year. The sanctum is deeply revered, and even those who aren’t particularly religious can feel the peace and power within its ancient walls. The daily rituals, chants, and scent of incense create an atmosphere that feels timeless.

I visited the Lingaraj Temple on 21st November, and the experience was truly divine and memorable. The moment you enter the temple complex, you can feel the spiritual energy and the ancient charm that makes this place one of the most sacred temples in Odisha. The temple’s architecture is breathtaking — built in the classic Kalinga style, the towering structure and the detailed stone carvings instantly capture your attention. Every corner of the temple reflects centuries of devotion and traditional craftsmanship. The main shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva (as Lingaraja) is powerful and peaceful at the same time, and standing before the Shivalinga gives a deep sense of calm and positivity. The temple premises are quite large, with many smaller shrines inside the complex. Despite its age, the temple is well-maintained, and the movement of devotees is organized. There is a strict no-mobile and no-camera policy, which helps maintain the serenity inside. I was able to complete my darshan smoothly, and the priests were helpful in guiding visitors. The whole atmosphere — the chants, bells, and the sight of the ancient stone structures — makes the visit feel spiritually uplifting. Overall, Lingaraj Temple is a must-visit for anyone coming to Bhubaneswar, whether for faith, history, or architecture. My visit on 21st November was peaceful, meaningful, and truly unforgettable. Highly recommended for spiritual seekers and heritage lovers.

Nestled just 6 kilometers from the vibrant city of Bhubaneshwar, the Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves are a treasure trove of ancient history, dating back to the 1st century BCE. These intricately carved cave dwellings served as homes for Jain ascetics and offer a unique glimpse into their simple yet profound lifestyle.
The Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves near Bhubaneswar are a must-visit for history and nature lovers. These ancient rock-cut caves, dating back to the 2nd century BCE, beautifully showcase Odisha's rich Jain heritage and King Kharavela's legacy. The carvings and inscriptions at Udayagiri, especially the Rani Gumpha and Hathigumpha, are truly fascinating. The view from the top of the hill is breathtaking, especially during sunset. The site is well-maintained and offers a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by greenery. Perfect place to explore history, architecture, and spirituality together. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Bhubaneswar!

Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, just on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, was like stepping into a quiet conversation between history, spirituality, and nature. These ancient caves, carved into hills more than 2,000 years ago, once served as dwellings for Jain monks during the reign of King Kharavela. But today, they offer much more than just a glimpse into the past — they offer an experience that’s both humbling and inspiring. I started with Udayagiri, which is slightly more developed and archaeologically significant. The moment you enter, you’re greeted by stunning rock-cut facades and intricately carved reliefs depicting royal processions, animals, and symbols from Jain mythology. The Rani Gumpha (Queen’s Cave), with its two-storeyed structure and detailed carvings, completely captivated me. It’s amazing to think how such precision was achieved so many centuries ago, using the simplest tools. Climbing through the caves felt like a spiritual trek — not just physically upwards, but inward as well. As I moved from chamber to chamber, I could almost imagine the monks meditating in the cool, dark interiors, surrounded by silence and stone. Across the road, Khandagiri is less elaborate but offers a raw, natural charm. The climb to the top is a bit steep, but absolutely worth it. From there, you get a panoramic view of Bhubaneswar — modern city life unfolding below a hill that holds echoes of ancient wisdom. What made the experience even more memorable was the peaceful atmosphere. The soft rustle of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the occasional sound of a temple bell in the distance made it feel like time had slowed down. It’s a place that encourages stillness and reflection — a rare gift in today’s fast-paced world. Whether you're a history lover, a spiritual seeker, or simply someone who enjoys scenic places, Udayagiri and Khandagiri offer a rich, quiet beauty that stays with you long after you've left.

I visited Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves recently, and the experience was truly memorable. These ancient caves beautifully reflect Odisha’s rich history and Jain heritage. Walking through the rock-cut caves, carvings, and inscriptions felt like stepping back in time. The views from the top are stunning, especially during the evening when the light hits the stones perfectly. One important thing to note is that the site closes at 5 PM, so it’s better to reach at least by 3 PM to explore both Udayagiri and Khandagiri comfortably. The area is well-maintained, and the pathways are easy to walk. It’s a great place for photography, history lovers, and anyone who enjoys peaceful natural surroundings. Overall, a must-visit heritage site in Bhubaneswar for its history, architecture, and scenic beauty. Highly recommended for families, friends, and solo travelers!

We simply loved visiting this architectural marvel. The caves themselves with their intricate work were breathtaking. to think that such constructions were carried out during the ancient period baffles us. The Odisha government seems to be taking sincere efforts to maintain the structures. the footpaths and conveniences for tourists were also good. a must visit place if you are a Bhubaneswar

We recently visited Udayagiri in Bhubaneswar, and it was a wonderful experience. The place is rich in history and offers a deep insight into India’s ancient heritage. The rock-cut caves and carvings are truly impressive and worth exploring. Our visit was made even better by our guide, Mr. Mitra, who explained everything beautifully. He shared the historical background of each cave in an engaging and easy-to-understand way. He was courteous, patient, and ensured we didn’t miss any important detail. Thanks to him, we were able to appreciate the true significance of Udayagiri. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I highly recommend both the site and Mr. Mitra’s guiding service to anyone visiting Bhubaneswar.

Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, which were previously known as Cuttack caves, are a group of ancient rock cut caves, located on the Khandagiri-Chandaka Road, in Khandagiri, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha which is one of the State’s of India. These caves are located on two adjacent hills, which are part of the Kumari Mountain range. These caves were built during the 2nd Century BC by King Kharavela of the Meghavahana dynasty of Kalinga. He is said to be the most powerful king in the history of Odisha. These caves, built on the Kumari mountain range, were discovered by a British Officer Andrew Sterling in the 19th century AD. As is known these 117 caves were built for the Jain monks, who sought solitude and spiritual enlightenment amidst the natural beauty of the hills, to stay and to meditate. Many of the caves are double storeyed and as understood the upper chambers of the caves were used for deep meditation. At present there are only 33 caves left, 18 on the Udaygiri hill and 15 on the Khandagiri hill. The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) is in charge of the Udaygiri caves however the caves located at the Khandagiri hills do not come under the purview of the ASI. The entry ticket to both the caves is common which is Rs 25 per person for Indian nationals and Rs 300 per person for foreign nationals. The major Udaygiri caves are the Hathigumpha, the Rani Gumpha, the Ganesh Gumpha , and the VyagharaGumpha . The major Khandagiri caves are the Barabhuji Gumpha, the Trushula Gumpha, and the Ambika Gumpha . One of the impacting carving here is the showcasing of the Kalinga War, where women and teenagers are shown fighting Ashoka’s army to save their motherland. The caves are open from 6 am until 30 minutes before Sunset, however it is better to go early in the morning to avoid crowds and the heat. These caves require substantial climbing and walking on uneven paths.
There are several Langur monkeys at the Khandhagiri caves. It is said that Mahavira Jain, who was the 24th Tirthankara of Jain religion , had visited the Kumari Mountain and hence this place has been sacred for the followers of Jain religion . There are several inscriptions on the walls of these two twin caves including carved images animals, humans, trees, women playing musical instruments . The language of the inscriptions is Brahmi, which is quite similar to the Pali language. The distance of Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves is around 6.5 kilometres from the Biju Patnaik International Airport and around 9.5 kilometres from the Bhubaneswar Railway Station. Plenty of parking is available at this place.

A marvel of the past! These cave sites (Udaygiri and Khandagiri) are just across the road. For the history lovers, spending even a day might seem less. For most, a few hours would suffice. There's so much to admire in these caves. I recommend reading the Wikipedia article on these caves and ASI's webpage before visiting. Else, you consider the services of the many guides (registered with the government) who're usually near the entrance. There's some car parking space and the road is lined with numerous shops (snacks, beverages...). Tickets can be purchased either on-site or online (through ASI). For those with mobility constraints, there's quite some climbing (many stairs) and I didn't come across any wheelchair ramp per se. Udaygiri caves were very well maintained. However, Khandagiri caves were in a state of despair (so many graffitis, trash, people climbing on delicate structures...). So, it does need some upkeep.

The Khandagiri and Udayagiri Cave is a great tourism site for the people who are interested in caves, sculptures and archaeological places. These caves are carved into the hills near Bhubaneswar, Odisha and built around 1st Century BCE. At the top of the hill you will find a great view of the bhubaneswar city. The climb is a little steep and requires a physical effort to reach the top of the caves. So always wear sports shoes and avoid the location on rainy days. Give yourself enough time to reach the top, be calm and relax at the time of climbing. It is an excellent place for travel enthusiasts and nature lovers also the price is very minimal and you will find many street foods near the main gate.

Dhauli Shanti Stupa

Nestled atop the serene Dhauli Hills in Odisha, the Dhauli Shanti Stupa, also known as the Peace Pagoda, is a stunning white structure that radiates tranquility. Constructed in 1972 through a collaboration between Japanese and Indian Buddhist organizations, this remarkable shrine serves as a poignant reminder of Emperor Ashoka's transformation from a conqueror to an advocate for peace following the Kalinga War.
The Dhauli Shanti Stupa, located near Bhubaneswar in Odisha, holds great historical and spiritual significance. It is believed to be the site of the Kalinga War (261 BCE), where Emperor Ashoka witnessed massive bloodshed that changed his heart. Deeply moved, Ashoka renounced violence and embraced Buddhism, spreading messages of peace and compassion. The Japanese Buddhist Sangha later built the white Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) here in 1972, symbolizing harmony and non-violence. Surrounded by ancient rock edicts of Ashoka and serene landscapes, Dhauli Shanti Stupa stands as a reminder of transformation, peace, and the universal message of brotherhood. Experience: Not much to explore, but it is a peaceful and pleasant place to visit. The four statues of Buddha each depict a story. I am not sure if private vehicles are allowed near the temple, as we traveled there on a small government bus. The four Buddha statues at Dhauli Shanti Stupa (Peace Pagoda), Odisha represent the four significant stages of Lord Buddha’s life. Each statue is placed facing one direction of the stupa, symbolizing peace and compassion: Birth of Buddha (Lumbini) – Depicts the moment of Siddhartha Gautama’s birth. Enlightenment (Bodh Gaya) – Represents Buddha attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. First Sermon (Sarnath) – Symbolizes the "Dharmachakra Pravartan" (Turning of the Wheel of Dharma) when he first taught the path. Mahaparinirvana (Kushinagar) – Depicts Buddha’s final departure from the world, symbolizing eternal peace. These statues together narrate Buddha’s journey and convey the message of non-violence, compassion, and universal peace.

Dhauli Shanti Stupa is a buddhist temple with a great scenic view. If you visit the stupa during early hours of the day, you would find the place empty with only a few people, which makes the place even more peaceful. You can also visit the place at any time but the floor gets heated during the afternoon and makes it difficult to walk and if you want to have a look at the light show you should visit at night.
