National park
Nature & Parks
Plitvice Lakes National Park is a stunning destination in the heart of Croatia, known for its picturesque lakes, alpine forests, waterfalls, and caves. It's an ideal place for romantic getaways or family adventures. Couples can enjoy enchanting lookouts, romantic walks along the trails with the soothing sounds of waterfalls, and a stay at Jezero Hotel followed by a romantic dinner at Licka Kuca restaurant.
Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of pure, awe-inspiring beauty. The 16 lakes, connected by countless waterfalls and cascades in stunning turquoise-blue hues, are a true paradise. Walking on the wooden boardwalks allows you to get close to the water, feel the mist of the falls and see almost to the bottom of the lakes. It's an absolute must-do for any nature lover. Important points on the trails and walking conditions: The park offers a variety of routes (like C, H, F, E etc.) that combine walking, a boat ride on Lake Kozjak, and use of a shuttle. Most of the walking paths and boardwalks are very narrow, slippery, and sometimes uneven, and the park gets extremely crowded, therefore in my opinion the trails are not suitable for baby strollers or wheelchairs, also - access is difficult for people with walking difficulties or seniors who require stability. Recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip. Tickets: Recommended to book tickets online in advance for a specific time slot and entrance (1 or 2), as the daily visitor capacity is limited and tickets sell out quickly. It's best to arrive as early as possible (right at opening time) to avoid the biggest crowds. Paid parking is available at both entrances (make sure to park at the entrance for which you bought your ticket). Along the paths, there are several rest points with WCs and some places to buy food, but it's a bit pricey, so you can bring some water, sandwiches, or snacks. In summary, this is an amazing natural wonder that is worth every effort.

Wow! Fantastic experience! You could easily spend the whole day at the park. There are number of trails leading around the lakes and under the waterfalls. Every part of it looks do beautiful. The water is extremely clean and the colours vary from light blue to turquoise green. It’s a must go destination in Croatia
Alice K — Google review
Absolutely stunning nature, I felt like I was wandering through the loveliest dream. Aside from the obvious, the forest itself is incredibly beautiful, soft, nurturing, with ivy covered trees, moss adorned rocks, and colorful leaves blanketing the forest floor. I highly recommend coming in mid to late October for the fall foliage, it imbues a mystical quality to this already enchanted place.
Chantal L — Google review
Very beautiful park and easy to access. We was lucky to get 2 versions of the scenery. We came late on day 1 (17 Nov), so we decided to revisit in the next day. There was significant snow and the scenery had changed. Although we couldn't go to your lakes due to the weather, the scenery in lower lakes was fantastic.
Gahwin R — Google review
Such a beautiful serene environment, walking on the trails did get a bit busy at times but once you're in its amazing to see little pockets of natural beauty, clear waters, different varieties of fish, plants and many jaw dropping waterfalls, too many to count. I would highly recommend for anyone visiting Croatia.
A W — Google review
This park is really fantastic. We were here for two days. Walked about 30 km. Some areas quite busy (great waterfall). If possible i recommend an early start to avoid the tourists coming in by busloads. The lakes are great and everything is remarkably clean. We had a great time, highlight of our trip to Croatia.
M.pepers — Google review
It's no wonder the Plitvice Lakes are called Croatia's main attraction. It's a vast and incredibly beautiful national park. We visited in the summer, so everything was blooming and green. The park's highlight is the many waterfalls it has. Here, the waterfalls resemble delicate lace, an exquisite interplay of streams and intertwining water flows - there waterfalls upon waterfalls. If you're in Croatia, don't miss the opportunity to admire this spectacle! Some of the hiking trails will easily last a few hours, so prepare to spend a full day here.
Mat B — Google review
Great planning in the national park, with bus and boat inclusive with the ticket which is unbelievable at this kind of world-famous tourist spot. Experienced route H, spent around 5 hours and quite easy to walk, thanks for the bus taking us uphill and start at the top with over 80% of the journey are downhill. Fall season should be promoted more, the view is amazing, weather is comfortable but obviously there are not many visitors during Oct.

The Caves of Barać, located 6km from Village Rakovica and near the Plitvice Lakes National Park, have been open to the public since 1892. This natural attraction offers guided tours through its prehistoric stalactites and stalagmites, providing a unique opportunity to explore its geological formations and archaeological discoveries. While once containing human remains from World War I and II, today visitors can admire the impressive rock formations within the caves.
So interesting! We had a wonderful tour with a knowledgeable and funny tour guide. Highly recommend!
Susanne W — Google review
The cave itself is not a spectacular experience. It's nice, nothing more. It's the tour guides that make it really interesting with their stories and jokes. The area below the cave entrance is pretty lovely for picnicking and just spending some relaxing time under the shades of the wood. The wifi is available and free.
Bojana R — Google review
The caves are nice and the walking paths are good and well signed, but the best part is near the info point: a good park to relax for families, you can pass the whole day there
Davide G — Google review
We had a great time. The guide Filip was just awesome - explained a lot of details, was very funny and kind, we really enjoyed the tour, also the park is really pleasant with big green playgrounds
Angie X — Google review
We had the most amazing tour with Filip, he was very informative and made the tour very enjoyable. Our two sons 5 and 3 were also able to enjoy the tour and were listened to when they asked questions. Would highly recommend visiting when in the area.
Bianca Z — Google review
We visited the cave with our 2 daughters and experienced a great tour! The guide was excellent and we really enjoyed the tour.
Zsolt V — Google review
Fun little cave. We are in Croatia and do not speak Croatian so I cannot complain very much but the guide split the group into Croatian and English speakers- he spent a long time with the Croatian group and then was very brief with the English group and said, “sorry, the next group is coming.”
Danny H — Google review
A network of caves, most of which are inaccessible to the public for various reasons. Subsequently there's nothing really memorable to see here - walk to the end of a passage and walk back. At 40 euros for two adults and a child its most definitely overpriced for the limited experience on offer. If you have a P Lakes ticket you can get a small discount. Cave guide was engaging and entertaining.

Great Waterfall

Mentioned on
17 lists
Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Great Waterfall, also known as Veliki Slap, is a stunning natural wonder located within a national park in Croatia. Standing at an impressive 78 meters tall, it is the highest waterfall in the country and offers breathtaking views. The surrounding area features picturesque picnicking spots and a viewing platform to take in the beauty of the cascading water. Visitors can also explore the Sastavci waterfalls, which create a dramatic scene as they appear to be an extension of Great Waterfall.
This is the tallest waterfall in Plitvice Lakes National Park, measuring approximately 78 meters in height. It is a single-drop waterfall, cascading straight down from a high cliff in a dramatic and powerful flow. The sight of the water plunging in a single stream is truly awe-inspiring. In spring and after rainfall, the volume of water increases, creating an even more impressive spectacle. During winter, the frozen form offers a completely different yet equally stunning view. Visiting early in the morning rewards you with a magical atmosphere, as mist and sunlight create a dreamlike setting. It is the closest major attraction to Ticket Office 1, and certain trail routes allow you to reach a viewpoint right at the base of the waterfall.
Seokjin H — Google review
Beautiful nature. We did circuit C and it took us 4 hours, moderately difficult terrain. The boat trip was also great. There are toilets and refreshment stands at the stations. Nice people everywhere.
Františka M — Google review
• A breathtaking natural wonder, the view is absolutely stunning. 🌿💦 •The power and sound of the waterfall are mesmerizing. •Beautiful walking trails with peaceful surroundings. •A must-see spot in Croatia. •Very clean, well-maintained, and visitor-friendly.
Özgür Ç — Google review
The "Great Waterfall" in Croatia is called Veliki Slap and is the largest waterfall in Plitvice Lakes National Park. It has a height of 78 meters and is fed by the Plitvica River. What a magnificent view!
Mat B — Google review
The big waterfall looks perfect. If you are lucky, your impression will be completed by the small drops carried by the gentle wind from the waterfall that fall on the tourists. The impression would be better if there weren't so many tourists in this place, but I can understand why people stay here.
King S — Google review
Dreamy, full-on nature immersive! Only downside: wooden path is very narrow plus at water level, so u can't enjoy the waterfall in absolute peace - making space for people passing all the time & the anxiety of your belongings (phone etc) falling in the lakes.
Romy X — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous and an amazing experience to be here. This is the highest waterfall in the Plitvice National Park – 78 meters high situated at the very end of the Lower Lakes. It is fed by the waters of the Plitvica Potok River. Considered as the most beautiful one on the Lakes, this waterfall is also the highest one in the whole of Croatia. A must visit site, when in Croatia.
Rahmah R — Google review
TOURIST TRAP. It’s an amazing natural site, however the queues are crazy and it seems they let too many people into the park. Expect 1 or 2 hour queue to catch the boat. We ended up not bothering and just walking. I’d recommend visiting but maybe come off season or get here super early. The time slot is just for entrance, not the boats.

B&B Lower Lakes is a part of the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park, which is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and numerous lakes. The park is vast, covering much more than just the 16 lakes it's famous for. Visitors can choose between flexible programs to explore the Upper and Lower Lakes, with two main entrances providing access to different sections of the park.
Remember the place, great service, and good rooms. Placed two minutes from the entering of Plitvice park, do not need a car to enter. Great breakfast. We loved it and recommended everyone to come and enjoy it. Thank you, Milica and Nicolas, the stay here was amazing because of your great service.

This beautiful hotel was very comfortable and easy to find. Check in was a breeze and the room was amazing. We had a wonderful balcony to sit on. The property also has a lot of outside sitting and a few swings. There is free parking on the property and they allowed us to leave our car there while we hiked in the park. The 3rd entrance to the park is a 5 Min walk away and very convenient. We were able to go the opposite way of most people visiting and had zero wait for the boat at the end of the day since everyone is heading the other way.

Location, location! This is an amazing place to stay with so many perks. The entrance to Plitvice Park is just a short walk away, and there are a couple of really nice restaurants within walking distance. Our host, Mirjana, was wonderful. Even though we arrived late, she was there to greet us and help us get settled. She asked what time we’d like breakfast, and had everything prepared and ready earlier than scheduled. The breakfast spread was incredible—so many options, including cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, jams, breads, and coffee. On top of that, she made us delicious eggs every morning. The room was spotless, and we had a beautiful balcony overlooking the backyard. It was the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air, complete with Adirondack chairs, a swing, and tables. Parking was free and right at B&B. We couldn’t have asked for more. We would absolutely stay here again, and I can’t wait to recommend it to my friends and family.
Crystal G — Google review
Everything was absolutely excellent. The room was super big and had everything you need. Cleaning 10+++. A lot of attention to details, you could tell the accommodation was carefully and tastefully designed. The host was incredibly nice and she makes the best pancakes and scrambled eggs. So you can probably tell we also loved the breakfast. :) For the Park, you can buy online any Entrance ticket and the hour doesn't matter that much. There is an unofficial entrance very close by, where the Park staff will scan your tickets. We visited in September, but I recommend you to eat your morning breakfast, then grab some snacks for the rest of the day. There are very limited options on the resting areas on the routes. For dinner, we highly recommend to avoid the restaurants nearby the accommodation, take the car and drive for 15 minutes to Restaurant Degenija - better prices and much better quality food. I really hope all accommodations were like this. 💚
Ana-Maria R — Google review
A friendly and relaxing accommodation amidst the park with clean and pleasant rooms, free WiFi, free parking, breakfast, freshly cooked dinner and more. Just three minutes walking from the park entrance. Everything is lovingly attended to by host Milica who makes you feel welcome from the very first moment and is a great help for planning your visit to the park as well. For my next visit, I will definitely come back here!
Paul K — Google review
Excellent location, walking distance from the park. Clean, spacious and fairly new rooms. Nice breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff, special thanks to Milica at the reception.
Amy — Google review
Modern, new and clean rooms. Amazing outdoor area. Very helpful and friendly staff who can help you with buying tickets and give you tips on what to see or where to eat in the area. If you are looking for a quiet place in Plitvice, this is the best place. The accommodation is approx. 400-500 meters from the unofficial entrance to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. However, you can only use this entrance with a valid ticket, which you must purchase in advance (24 hours) on the Plitvice Lakes website. We spent in this place 3 wonderful nights and had enough time to explore Plitvice lakes and taste local food
Anna Š — Google review
Milica Rapaic was a perfect host for such a cute and picturesque B&B in the great mountains of the Plitvica!! With the help of Milica, she help planned my proposal here :) She gave secret tips of the best view points that only the locals know! She and the team exceeded expectations and made us feel very warm and welcomed. We could not highly recommend the B&B (my fiancée mentioned it was the best shower she ever used!) and a special thank you from us in making our stay, a perfect night to remember for the rest of our lives! Very nice way to spend a day on the Croatian coast. The captain is very welcoming (with a glass of snaps at 9:30 am how could he not ^^). The fish we are on board smelled very good while cooking and tasted super too. The boat is the smallest of the ones that seem to organize these kinds of tours from Pag and also the best because you can jump from the roof and you have space to lie down in the sun. The only thing that could be improved is the quality of the unlimited drinks on board ;)

Good trip! Perfect view, pleasant atmosphere, tasty food and drinks service. If you are in Pag island I can recommend to try this boat trip. Most famous locations you will check and make a nice photos. P.S.:separate thanks to captain for making this trip very fun! 👍

I planned to go on this trip already month before coming to Croatia. My husband was a bit skeptic when he heard that it was going to be whole day on a boat. He took a chance. It was such a nice spent time. With good music, amazing views, funny and helpful crew, nicely singing captain, tasty grilled fish (another option was chicken breast), with possibility to swim in water and jump from the boat in places accessible only with a boat. There was also a possibility to visit a cave. I haven't done that, because I didn't have these special shoes with me and I didn't want to step on any of these round spiny animals that might be on the bottom. Most of the corridor is not covered with water only the last part before the exit. A bit narrow I heard. There was water, juice, wine and rakija during the whole tour. We really enjoyed it.
Sylwia T — Google review
Amazing! Family and friends had a great day-trip on the sea. Friendly staff, beautiful views, delicious fish and nice swimming places they take you to swim. The Cave experience is unforgettable! A must do if you’re in Pag. Thanks captain!

Amazing excursion. Explore beautiful flora fauna and rock structures. Abundance of fishes. Food and drink inclusive. The whole trip we had wine and juice available. Swim in middle of nowhere. And the thing to put it apart from other cruise is the lovely captain. He is super friendly and makes the journey fun and interesting (he sings also 😁)
Rimjhim K — Google review
Great Experience! Captain is 100% authentic and very in touch with nature, his boat and the area. Seen great nature, caves and places and had a great daytrip! Can truly recomend!
Benedikt G — Google review
Little captain welcomed us on board, sung great traditional Croatian songs and sailed professionally and with confidence, like a real pro. Big captain kept the free refreshments going, topping us up at least 8 times throughout the day and cooked us fresh fish on board. He also kept an eye out on all the safety needs, especially when entering the small cave. They were a perfect combination for a well planned faultless day out. Nothing was missing or not thought about. I took my young children. (9 & 7) they loved it. We saw dolphins, snorkeled in incredible clear seas, visited deserted beaches, dived off harbours, jumped from the top deck, popped into a little seaside village for coffee, swam with fish, ate great food, listened to traditional croatiin music and challenged ourselves by walking and swimming through a sea cave. What more could you ask for? Worth every kona and more Thank you for some great memories

An amazing full-day boat tour with a very kind captain who took care of every single passanger and made him/her feeling like at home. We went around the cove of Pag, stopped in Metajna village, visited a few beautiful beaches, and an interesting cave through which we passed. Lunch and drinks (water, soda and wine) are included in the price.

Historic Sites
Childhood home of the scientist & inventor, with a replica laboratory & multimedia exhibits.
Being a great study of Nikola Tesla and his understanding of the forces of nature meant I couldn't miss visiting this place! This memorial is a great tribute to a remarkable man. The outside views are beautiful and the technological feats inside even more so.. I'd highly recommend this place to those with a curious mind.. Or a simple one.

Step into the serene village where one of history's greatest minds began his journey - Nikola Tesla, the visionary behind modern electricity. This enchanting destination is more than just a museum; it's an experience that radiates peace, profound symbolism, and boundless inspiration. Arrive on the hour and witness the electrifying Tesla coil demonstration, followed by a compelling short documentary that brings Tesla's brilliance to life. The museum complex offers: - A playground where young minds can dream big - A souvenir shop packed with keepsakes charged with inspiration - A historic Orthodox church where Tesla’s father once preached, adding spiritual depth to your visit Whether you're a science enthusiast, a curious traveler, or a seeker of inspiration, allow yourself a longer stay to truly absorb the energy that permeates this remarkable place. It’s not just a trip - it’s a spark that can ignite your own creativity.

The birthplace of one of the greatest minds of mankind, Nikola Tesla, in addition to the house with a lot of information from his life, there is also a room where Tesla's coil is shown and an audio visual center with a half-hour film that is a mini biography within the center is a souvenir shop, all in all a wonderful place to visit

It was interesting to view as an adult but, less so for kids. The playground was the best I’ve seen as an adult. We had a 3.5 yr old that wasn’t excited about the park. Might be suited for 5yrs old and up.

Paklenica National Park is a stunning 95 sq km protected mountain forest located in the Velebit Range, which separates continental Croatia from the Adriatic coast. The park boasts two peaks higher than 1,700m and features two deep gorges, Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica, with cliffs over 400m high. Its unique geographical position results in diverse vegetation and climate zones ranging from warm Mediterranean to cold mountain climate.
One of these places where you don't need to walk much to see something amazing;) Just outside the parking lot, you can observe climbers or simply rest in the shade of the mountains and trees. Definitely go on a trek too or take a climbing lesson with a local guide!
Joanna ( — Google review
If you're going to go up the mountain, take sturdy shoes. We went up Vidakov Kuk. 745m high. About 6.4km to get there. The trail is fine up to the point of the Manitec cave. After that, you follow the red and white circles and lines to the top. It's not easy, there are no safety barriers, and sometimes it's pretty much straight up, holding onto rocks, steel wire and trees. Take your time and look for the next red and marker to set your course. When you get to the top, you are rewarded with a magnificent view. To get down there are 2 ways, back the way you came, or keep going, following the red and white markers. I would recommend going back the way you came. Even though the first part of that will be difficult, one you hit the trail it's easy sailing. Continuing on is a task and a half. The trail is VERY difficult. Steep slopes, on rocks most of the way, and you only have the markers as a guide as there is no real trail marked. It's tough on knees and ankles. Sometimes it feels like it will never end, you double back on yourself and feel lost. Plus it takes a lot longer this way. And when you get to the end, you will probably question your intelligence as why you did it 😄. But, if adventure is what you are wanting, do it.

So the park and scenery is great. But the trails although clearly marked they are extremely confusing for people who want to hike more difficult trails. The map provided doesn’t align with the signs on the trails. So you don’t really know what you will see when you reach the trail end. They could mark up loop trails and colour code them by time and difficulty level. But if you have a one day there and want to do quick hike it will be nearly impossible to understand which trail to choose to see something as everything provided by the park is unusable. Restaurants in the park is cash only so don’t forget the money if you want to eat something.

The park is absolutely stunning and worth visiting, but hikers (especially visitors unfamiliar with the terrain) should be careful — it’s very easy to lose the trail, even just a few meters off. The rocky karst slopes can make every direction look the same, and some paths aren’t clearly marked. A small wrong turn can quickly lead into thick, thorny bushes and rough ground. I recommend adding more visible trail markings and some English-language signs or disclaimers, especially near confusing sections, so visitors can stay safe and enjoy the hike with confidence. Huge thanks to the park staff — they were incredibly kind, calm, and helpful when I got disoriented and needed assistance. Their professionalism and kindness really stood out.

The Greeting to the Sun

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Greeting to the Sun is a modern artistic installation located in Zadar, consisting of 300 multi-layered glass plates arranged in a circle on the waterfront. Beneath these glass plates are solar modules that create a symbolic connection with nature through light. At sunset, the lighting elements within the circle illuminate and produce a mesmerizing light show synchronized with the waves and sounds of the nearby Sea Organs.
This piece surprised me not just visually but conceptually. It’s more than just lights—it’s a clever tribute to nature, astronomy, and renewable energy. The solar panels absorb sunlight all day and then use that stored energy to create a multi-colored light show after dark. It’s especially meaningful if you're into science, sustainability, or just interactive public art. Families, couples, solo travelers—everyone seemed to be drawn in. I loved the blend of technology, nature, and creativity. Great spot to relax, reflect, or just be present.
Madhushree M — Google review
Very interesting bit of technology with solar power allowing a light show on hundreds of panels. Given that it's right next to the equally fascinating sea organ you're bound to visit it when in Zadar. Great area for the sunset. Some reviewers complain about the number of people - but for my group, all the happy, smiling admirers was a plus not a minus. Definitely worth a visit.
Mat B — Google review
Greeting to the Sun in Zadar offers an absolutely mesmerizing experience that perfectly encapsulates the beauty of the Adriatic. As the day draws to a close, the sunset here is nothing short of spectacular, painting the sky with vibrant hues that reflect off the calm waters. You'll find yourself captivated by the silhouette of boats gently bobbing on the sea, adding to the picturesque scene. The magic truly comes alive as dusk settles in, and the Sea Organ begins its melodic performance, creating an ethereal soundtrack that perfectly complements the visual spectacle. And then there are the lights of the Greeting to the Sun itself – their simplicity is their genius, creating an interactive and enchanting display of the ground that is both playful and profound. It's a place where natural beauty, human ingenuity, and a sense of wonder seamlessly blend together. A must-visit for anyone in Zadar!
Matt W — Google review
Visiting the Greeting to the Sun was one of the highlights of my trip to Zadar. This stunning installation, located right by the sea next to the famous Sea Organ, is an incredible blend of art, science, and nature. During the day, the large circular platform quietly absorbs sunlight, but as soon as the sun sets, it lights up with vibrant, colorful patterns powered by solar energy. It feels like the ground itself is alive with energy! What I loved most was how the installation connects you to the cosmos — with a solar calendar engraved on the ring and smaller discs representing the planets nearby. It’s not just beautiful but also educational. The nearby Sea Organ adds a magical soundtrack as the waves create peaceful, melodic sounds, making the whole experience truly multi-sensory. The location is perfect for an evening stroll along the waterfront, watching the sunset while enjoying this unique light show. Best of all, it’s completely free and open at all times. I highly recommend visiting just before dusk to catch the full effect. A perfect spot for photos, relaxation, and soaking in Zadar’s creative spirit!
Niroshan P — Google review
On the western extremity of Zadar’s old town, this modern installation is a remarkable addition to Zadar alongside its neighbour the Sea Organ. Both are designed by Nikola Bašić. It consists of 300 multi-layered glass solar panels in the shape of a circle of a 22-meter diameter. It collects the energy of the Sun and transforms it into the electricity, which is then used by and around the installation throughout the night. Wait for dusk to be over to fully appreciate the marvel.

Monument dedicated to sun. It is work of Nikola Bašić, architect who made sea organ next to this monument. These two monuments symbolize comunication with nature. This one comunicates with light and organ comunicate with sound. In the evening the lights turn on and you can enjoy in lightshow.

Nestled along the stunning coastline of Zadar, the Sea Organ is a remarkable fusion of art and nature that captivates visitors with its enchanting melodies. This large experimental musical instrument is ingeniously designed beneath a staircase leading to the sea, where waves interact with a hidden system of pipes and whistles. As the tides ebb and flow, they create hauntingly beautiful sounds that are both unpredictable and mesmerizing.
It’s one of the most unique and peaceful places I’ve ever visited. The sound of the waves creating soft, natural music is so relaxing — perfect for just sitting back and enjoying the moment. The sunset here is breathtaking — the sky turns into a mix of orange, pink, and purple while you listen to the ocean "play" its song. The atmosphere is calm, romantic, and ideal for unwinding after a day of sightseeing. A beautiful blend of nature, art, and sound. Don’t miss it if you’re in Zadar!
Niroshan P — Google review
This was one of the most unique and mesmerizing public art installations I’ve ever experienced. It looks like a giant glass disc set into the promenade, but as the sun sets, the entire thing comes alive with vibrant, shifting lights powered by solar energy collected during the day. The best part? You’re watching this incredible light show right next to the Adriatic, with live waves crashing and the Sea Organ playing in the background. Magical. The atmosphere in the evening is peaceful yet energetic—locals and travelers just soaking in the vibe. A must-visit if you’re in Zadar, especially at sunset.
Madhushree M — Google review
A very interesting spot on the embankment. The entire embankment is a pleasant place for a stroll, but the sea organ is a must-see, a chance to sit on the steps and listen to the sea sing. The best time to visit is when the waves are moderate. If the waves are calm, the sound is almost inaudible. If the waves are very rough, the sea floods the steps.
Miha S — Google review
It’s a great area to listen to some good music performed at the steps by the sea. The music comes from the waves and ripples underneath the granite steps. It was so relaxing, and it was a great place to sit and watch the activity on the water. It’s a great area for a stroll and gather some history. This is the area for Alfred Hitchcock love to watch the sunset, he said the best in the world. I WOULD RECOMMEND
Cindy L — Google review
It's a particularly special feeling when the sun sets and the people gathered there spontaneously begin to clap, as if they've just witnessed a performance. And when I think about it more closely, it really is the best show I've ever seen! So...the Sea Organ (Morske orgulje) is a unique architectural sound art object and experimental musical instrument located on the coast of Zadar, Croatia. Designed by architect Nikola Bašić, this ingenious creation uses the power of the sea to create a symphony of sound. Hidden beneath a series of large, white marble steps are 35 organ pipes of different lengths, shapes, and sizes. As waves and tides wash into the coastline, they push air through these pipes, producing melancholic and beautifully random musical tones. Because the sea is ever-changing, the organ never plays the same melody twice, making each listening experience a one-of-a-kind moment. Waiting for the sunset while listening to the Sea Organ is truly a spectacular and unforgettable experience. This is confirmed by the large number of people who gather to enjoy the hypnotic sound and the breathtaking spectacle of the sun dipping below the horizon. It's a place where nature, art, and human emotion come together in perfect harmony.

Boutique Hostel Forum is a newly built property located in the heart of ancient Zadar, offering modern rooms and dorms with some featuring sea views. The accommodation units are air-conditioned and equipped with free Wi-Fi. Situated next to historical landmarks such as St. Anastasia's Cathedral and the Roman Forum, the hostel provides easy access to cafes, restaurants, and shops in the Old Town.
I stayed here last year, the location in the Old Town is excellent especially with a 24 hour reception, which was handy as I rolled in the other side of midnight from my flight! I chose a private room rather than the dorm options. It was small, but clean & comfortable & the view from the generous windows was fantastic. The bathroom was compact & quite quirky with the black & white tiling. Not a great amount of options for breakfast but enough to keep everyone happy. Overall very good value for a place to stay in the city.
Chas D — Google review
• The location is perfect — one of the best points. • The bed was comfortable. • You don’t need to bring a padlock, as the room key card also works for the locker. • The guy at reception was very kind and they are open 24hours so i didn’t have problem making a late check-in • Only complaint: it would be nice if breakfast were included in the price. • I saw a hair dryer in the pictures, but there wasn’t one in the shared room — I was disappointed. 😞 • They have air conditioning. • If you close the window, you won’t hear any noise. And please clean more often the toilets when is a shared room because sometimes Felt like it wasnt enough
P L — Google review
Be aware! I stayed here a few years ago and everything was fantastic. Unfortunately, now it’s impossible to sleep here. A new nightclub has opened in the building, with loud music playing until 5:00 AM. The rooms have no sound insulation, and the air conditioning has a bad smell. After all these years, there seems to be no proper care for the rooms or the overall environment
Marian S — Google review
Location is absolutely fantastic, and I would say that it is worth staying here for that. But the rooms are very average and quite dirty. Super loud with the night club next door. With closed window and ear plugs it worked ok. I was aware it was noisy before arriving, but chose to stay for the convenience of the location. A bit expensive. If breakfast would be included the value would go up a lot in my opinion.
Julia E — Google review
You get what you pay for with a hostel- it was a bit loud and bright in the rooms, even with the curtains shut. it’s definitely small in the twin double room but cheap and SUPER close and convenient to the city center. No elevator. Breakfast was ok for a quick bite but probably wouldn’t fill you completely up. Overall I would stay again and recommend as long as you know what to expect with hostel level accommodations!
Olivia L — Google review
Absolute perfect location right in the heart of Zadar. Great clean rooms with a towel. The “kitchen” Is super rudimentary. There’s no place to cook with a stove top just a microwave & bar fridge.
Sam D — Google review
Great location, rooms are pretty good- offer a lot of privacy for a hostel bed. Only feedback is to keep a vending machine or a first aid kit with women hygiene products (tampons, sanitary napkins etc.). The city was closed for a public holiday and I had to go up to strangers on the street to ask for napkins- quite stressful, could have been avoided if hostel was equipped.
Rutika R — Google review
The hostel is OK, you get what you pay for, stuff is nice. BUT THE NIGHT CLUB just next to hostel is TERRIBLE. Prepare that until 5 am you will hear loud music and even when you lay down - you can hear the bass vibrate in your bed, which is insane. So if you are not planning on partying all night long - AVOID THIS HOSTEL. Not even earplugs help :(( The worst experience ever.

Churches & Cathedrals
Saint Donatus’ Church is a large Catholic church with a circular shape that was constructed in the 9th century. It is located near the Roman Forum and St. Anastasia's Cathedral in Zadar, Croatia. The church has a pre-Romanesque style and is considered one of the most important landmarks in Dalmatia from that time period. Named after Bishop Donat, it features clean lines, a circular ground plan, and fortress-like architecture.
Visiting the Church of St. Donatus and climbing the adjacent Bell Tower is well worth the effort - the entrance is 5€. The church’s unusual circular arhitecture with it's mixture of Romanesque and Byzantine influences dates back to the 9th century and it's definitely a bit of a gem. Climbing the Bell Tower is rewarded with an excellent panorama of Zadar’s old town, the shimmering Adriatic Sea, and nearby islands.

An impressive ancient church located next to the Forum and the Cathedral. We were visiting early and had the place to ourselves. It was probably built in the 9th century and its design reflects architectural traditions of that time. It has a very authentic and somewhat eery vibe. I wish there were more explanations or some sort of a tour, but anyway, it was an interesting stop in Zadar. The entrance was 4 ears (cash only).
Ed G — Google review
Ancient church, surrounded by roman heritage of an old town square and amphitheater. The church is small but still neat to see and sit and imagine how assemblies were held inside. Beautiful steps, and clean. 5€ per son's over 10yrs old to enter. About a 30 min adventure at most. But you can't put a price on history

Very historical buildings with a long glory history. Iis no longer an operational church but just being conserved for it's history and as a tourist attraction. Can see it's structure was constructed many years ago using old masonry techniques. It's still very solid and strong. Worth a visit to get an understanding or Zadar and also St Donatus' Church significance in this city & town.

A beautiful ancient church located in the heart of Zadar's old town and near the sea front. Taking a walk around old town reveals its historic charm, with each alleyway having its own story to tell! A walk around the oldtown and the sea front is definitely a must in Zadar!

I happen to be in Zadar when it just finished raining… do not make the same mistake. The crowds of people that filled the streets was insane. Many shopkeepers recommended to come when it rains as there are less people. But oh my days. However, the church is still very beautiful its just impossible to fully enjoy under such pretences

A magical place in the heart of Zadar, especially at night when the Romanesque bell tower and the Church of St. Donatus are beautifully illuminated. The square is full of life, with street performers, tourists, and cozy cafés around. The contrast between the ancient stone structures and the lively modern atmosphere creates a unique and memorable vibe. A must-visit spot for history lovers and anyone looking to feel the soul of the old town. Absolutely stunning!

Land Gate

Sights & Landmarks
The Land Gate in Zadar is a significant historical landmark that serves as the main entrance to the old town area, enclosed by medieval walls. Constructed in the 16th century by the Venetians, it features a grand triumphal arch adorned with intricate stone carvings depicting images of Zadar's patron saint and the winged lion of St. Mark.
The Land Gate (Kopnena Vrata) is one of Zadar’s most iconic historical landmarks, located in the city’s Old Town. Built in 1543 by the Venetian architect Michele Sanmicheli, it served as the main entrance to the fortified city during the Venetian Republic. It is a stunning example of Renaissance architecture and holds immense historical and cultural significance. Key Features: 1. Design: • The gate is adorned with elaborate carvings, including a central triumphal arch flanked by two smaller arches. • At the top, it features the Lion of Saint Mark, a symbol of Venice, signifying Zadar’s importance as part of the Venetian Republic during that time. • It also includes decorative elements such as coats of arms and inscriptions. 2. Function: • The Land Gate was strategically positioned as part of the city’s defensive walls, which protected Zadar from Ottoman attacks. • It connected the city to the mainland via a drawbridge over the Fosa, a narrow moat that still exists today. 3. Cultural Significance: • Today, the Land Gate is a preserved part of Zadar’s UNESCO-listed Venetian fortifications. • It stands as a symbol of Zadar’s rich history and its strategic importance in the Adriatic during the Renaissance period. Modern Use: The Land Gate is now a pedestrian passage and a favorite spot for visitors exploring the Old Town. Its location near the Fosa Harbor makes it a picturesque entrance to Zadar’s historic center.

Beautiful historic monument, as is the Queen Jelena Madijevka Park, a Historic park atop the city bastions. There were 2 guided tours at the sane time, one in Mandarin Chinese, one in English at 5he time I visited. I would definitely recommend to go see the Land Gate at Fuša Harbor.

The 1543 entrance gate in Zadar impresses with its history and architecture. The Venetian walls are adorned with reliefs of a lion and St. Chrysogonus. Definitely worth seeing! Nearby, there's a shady park and a picturesque bay offering cruises for diving or sunset views. The gate was a crucial part of the city's defense during the Venetian Republic era and symbolizes its rich cultural heritage. Highly recommended!
Fiodor K — Google review
Most impressive of the gates is the Land Gate, main entrance into Zadar. It is built by Michele Sanmicheli in 1543 and it has a form of a triumphal arch with a central passage and two smaller two arches for wheeled traffic and pedestrians.
Mat B — Google review
This is one of the beautiful old gates in the wall of the city. We understand that when the city was an island much of the area beyond this massive gate was a huge water filled mote. Eventually the mote was filled in forming a peninsula. Today the arch remains where the gates were and is a lovely historical landmark.
Louis E — Google review
From all city gates this might be the most remarkable and the most beautiful. Not only due to its Venetian Lion. Just maybe because of its sheere size. It is the entry and exit point to the South. And considering the historic centre is almost detached to three sides by waters, the Southern gate is the most important. Don’t miss!
Philipp S — Google review
This is a review of Zadar in general, not specifically the gate. It is not a great city to visit. Many of the building are modern concrete construction and it probably has the highest proportion of tourist trap restaurants. Lots of loud tourists and not a peaceful atmosphere. If you want to visit, don't bother staying more than one night.

Went on a 14km~ rafting tour down a river that is used for white water rafting some months of the year. It was very calm when we were there in mid August. Riva rafting gave us a map and a place to meet them at their centre next to the start point, then gave us all the gear we needed (helmets, life jackets, waterproof pots) and then we got into inflatable rafts in pairs. There were two skippers - one at the front and one at the back to make sure everyone was accounted for. They led us through everything in English and we had a great time, despite a thunderstorm at the very end! At the end point they took drivers off to get the cars and the rest of us waited at the bar. As we paid for the tour + lunch, we also went to their campsite restaurant and were given a mixed grill. Altogether it was great value and we had a fantastic time!

We had a fantastic kayaking trip on the Srmanja River. Our guides, Maila and his colleague, were simply fantastic. An absolute must. Many thanks to Maila and our guides for the trip.

Our rafting trip with this company in Croatia was absolutely stunning, striking the perfect balance between safety, fun, nature, and thrill. From start to finish, our guides, Maila and Ramesh, were professional and attentive, creating a sense of constant safety. This is so important, as it allowed our group, which included families and people with varying levels of preparation, to fully relax and enjoy the experience. Their teamwork was incredible, and their awareness made us feel completely secure, even for the families with younger children on the trip. What sets this team apart is their ability to deliver constant excitement and thrilling moments without compromising safety. They kept the energy high with plenty of laughs and memorable moments. It’s rare to find a team that can give you such a rush while also ensuring you feel completely looked after.

Excellent guide Kasim Rai and another Nepalese man who made the trip fun and relaxed. We did it as a family of 4 and had a great time. Make sure you take plenty of water and food as you are out for a long time.

Nature & Parks
Telašćica Nature Park is a stunning destination located on a small island with picturesque rolling bays, vineyards, and pine and oak forests. The island has a rich history dating back to prehistoric times and is currently home to just over 1600 inhabitants. Visitors can enjoy boat trips around the islands, swim in the unique salt lake, explore a fortress and St Mary's Church on another island, and indulge in delicious meals while taking in the breathtaking scenery.
Beautiful, well-maintained park. You can walk around the salt lake and enjoy stunning views of the sea from the cliffs. Definitely worth a visit – and it’s pleasantly quiet with only a few visitors.
Chiara D — Google review
Always very crowded but it worth a visit if you are sailing anyway, but maybe a bit far just to go there from the mainland. The salt lake is a very nice internal and really salty lake, the cliffs are great as well.
Gabor K — Google review
Beautiful Nature Park, maybe the most beautiful in Croatia. Nature is beautiful, there are many easy hikes and the visitor centre is out of this world.
Ela J — Google review
Beautiful nature park. You can see scary cliffs, sandy beaches, very nice lookout point on the hill with nice souvenirs. Go to lookout point with car cause it is very steap hill to get back. Then go downhill and park at parking. From parking place hiking down to the salt lake. Before salt lake go up to cliffs and hike till you see beach with man made rocks formation. From that point you can go back next to lake and take a free shutlle to drive you to the parking. Last shutlle is at 7:00 pm. You can see scary cliffs, sandy beaches, very nice lookout point on the hill with nice souvenirs. Closing hour is at 8:00 pm.

Pretty damn hot was dripping like a cloud. Bring suncream water and clothes you don’t mind soaking. After you have melted you can go enjoy urself in the salt lake - pretty mid, muddy and mild

An absolutely stunning place. It is certainly worth spending at least a day here if you are staying on Dugi Otok. We found it quite difficult to find useful information about visiting online, so posting a few details here about our visit. We were two adults and a dog, visiting in August by car. The only way to enter the park by car is at the main entrance, just off the main road into Sali. It is well signposted and very obvious. There is a small ranger hut at the entrance where you can buy tickets. The rangers were super friendly and helpful and provided the most useful information for our visit. They spoke excellent English. There is parking in front of the entrance if you would prefer to leave your car and enter on foot, but I would not advise this on a hot summer's day. We passed the entrance regualry during our stay and it was never busy - when we went in we were the only people there and got our tickets straight away. Tickets cost €8 per person plus €8 for the car. There was no cost for our dog. Dogs do however have to be kept on a lead and cannot go on the minibus transfer available in the park. Tickets are valid all day until 12:00 the following day, meaning you could visit in the evening and following morning if you prefer to visit during the cooler times of the day. If you are only driving, there are only limited parts of the park that you can access. The road into the park leads to the western part of the bay. There are Konobas and some kayaking places located along the road, and it is possible to stop and park in some places, but not the best. There are some offshoot roads leading to some interesting monuments / chapels, if you are interested. There are however two 'main' destinations - the visitor centre and Mir Bay/Salt Lake. The road splits in two and leads to carparks at both locations. The visitor centre is well worth a visit - even if it is only for the absolutely stunning views over the cliffs, the Kornati islands and Telascica Bay. I'm summer, this is best an early morning or evening activity, as it is quite exposed. We went in the evening, when the light was beautiful. The road to Mir Bay stops about 2km from the actual bay/lake. To get to the bay, there is a minibus transfer, and the timetable is available at the ticket desk. Dogs are understandably not allowed in the bus, as they are small vehicles. The other option is to walk. There is an access road leading to the lake. You walk 10 minutes downhill along this road, and then a further 15 minutes along a shaded footpath by the lakeside. It is a beautiful walk, and there are lots of spots to stop/spend the day/ swim en route. The only 'challenging' part is the access road section - firstly, although it is not a public road, it is used by those working in the park and some drivers go at a breakneck speed. The road is in the full sun in the middle of the day, so it is advisable to time arrivals and departures early/late in the summer, to avoid walking in the full sun. The carpark is quite small, but there is overflow parking along the road. There is no additional charge. The bay is spectacular and the water is heavenly, especially on a hit summer's day. We spent most of our time in a secluded spot away from the main bay. There are pontoons with a restaurant, bar, fastfood restaurant, small shop and toilets in the main bay by the lake. However, there were about a dozen tour boats moored there from about 11:00-14:00, bringing hundreds of visitors. It looked very crowded. After 14:00, it went silent, so it is best to visit the lake in the early morning or late afternoon. There is a path around the lake and paths leading up to visit the cliffs and see the views. We would love to return at a cooler time of the year to explore on foot - there are lots of hiking options and footpaths across the whole park. However, it is very hilly, so in the summer, unless it is cool, this is not a good option. We found the best way to explore was swimming/paddle boarding along the coast. Ultimately, the best way to explore is by boat...
Peter D — Google review
Beautiful place for a family trip! The cool thing is that when you buy a ticket to the park, the price includes a bus to the lake or the cliffs.

A great restaurant right in the marina in Biograd. Very spacious, with a terrace and a view of yachts and sailboats. The restaurant is impeccably clean and beautifully decorated. Drink prices are average while food prices may be slightly higher than average. The menu is very interesting and will give you the opportunity to try something new. The staff is very kind and helpful in choosing food. The menu includes fish, crustacean and meat dishes. There is a children's menu. There are also desserts for those with a sweet tooth. Paid parking is available right next to the restaurant while free street parking is available nearby.

The whole experience in Restaura t Marina is awesome: its locatin in the marina Kornati, very attentive personnel, nice ambience (they have open fireplace inside), and the food is unbelievable good. We ate fish specialties, everything was prepared excellent.

The restaurant is located in a beautiful marina. The surroundings are really neat and clean while the restaurant is decorated beautifully. The food was exquisite! I would recommend you to try the "Octopus salad" dish which was delicious and one of my favorites! The service was great and I will be returning here again!

Location is inside the marina. Very nice veranda if you want to sit outside. Also area inside with air conditioning. Fresh and well done food. If you want to try traditional Croatian food like "Peka" order one day before, just call or ask your hotel to call for you. Service minded and friendly staff. Kids are welcome. Some vegetarian alternatives as well as gluten free alternatives. Price is fair to portion. Amazing sunset. Really worth a visit.

The food was okay, it was a little on the bland side but it wasn't bad. The service was good. The view was really nice too

Awful planning of waiters shifts. On Saturday there is always rush but it’s unforgivable and no excuse to wait to order cup of coffee for 40+ min. When asked waiter directly the answer was “wait for someone to come to you”

Nice restaurant with very slow service, you can be half hour with empty glasses in almost empty restaurant and nobody will recognize it, until you will start to wave like windmill... For lunch we went rather outside of marine.

Beach Slanica is the main beach of Murter, a popular vacation island known for its breathtaking beauty and shallow sandy shores, making it a hit with families. The turquoise blue sea is stunning and perfect for swimming. Located on the southern side of the island, it offers various amenities and entertainment programs. Despite being less crowded due to current circumstances, it remains an ideal spot for families with kids as well as older visitors.
Beautiful beach, perfect for small kids. Blue waters and sand! Good food on the other side of the beach.

Beautiful beach with sand and shallow water. Very suitable for small children. There are also bars and restaurants nearby. It can be quite crowded during the summer. The water is very clean and a very beautiful color.

Another grrat place in Murter. Sandy beach ideally for a small babies, very low water level. Early morning get a place otherwise its crowded whole day... closely tobogans for a kids. Surrounded by great restaurants, look for Reflektor Murter on right side ☝️

Small beach with pebbles, the place was beyond full. We had a great time staying on the side of the beach, there are flat rocks that allow for sun bathing. Water is clean right off the rocks and many fish can be seen.
Hristo A — Google review
Amazing Beach. Only horrible thing is the parking. There are weird people running around selling overpriced parking tickets, for the parking at the beach. But if you park near the Konzum supermarket 10 minutes by foot away in the town, you only pay 1€ per hour. You have to pay with the BMove app though. But the installation of the app and purchasing of the ticket was super easy. Really recommend that option!

The shore is stones, but in the water is sand. The shore is shallow, perfect for children's games. We didn't visit cafes. There were a lot of people, but we found a place to sit. Nice place.

10€ for parking on a rocky spot, the beach is very small with masses of people..towel besides towel. Water is nice like almost everywhere in Croatia.
Tas — Google review
Nice beach. Not overcrowded (at least was not 3-13 July 19). Water not the nicest, since it's more or less a small bay. Depends where exactly you stay on the beach. Decent service in terms of food, drinks, sport activities. Below average prices in Croatia in general. No "adrenaline" activities really available.

Mythical place filled with old and unfortunately recent historical events that shaped Croatian history. Very well maintained and packed with lots of educational boards and interactive activities. Best to come before sunset (around 19:00 later in the year). Ticker price was 6,00 € per person. There is small parking underneath the fortress but I would suggest leaving your car on the main street and use walking paths.
Zoran S — Google review
Visiting the Knin Fortress was one of my best experiences among Croatian monuments, museums, and cultural landmarks. The interactive museum is top-notch, the free viewing telescope is a fantastic addition, and the museums dedicated to Operation Storm and other themes are beautifully and thoughtfully arranged. Truly outstanding — one of the best sites in Croatia!

It's a really interesting place. Most of the exhibitions have plaques that are in English which are really useful. The girl with dark hair who was working the ticket booth was really friendly and helped us out a lot. The views are absolutely stunning. I would visit the kids bit as there's an animation that really being set in layman term's. How the area developed through the centuries In layman terms. Great coffee shop and restaurant there as well.

very interesting medieval fortress, a large number of different levels and places to observe the surroundings, a beautiful view of the source of the Krka River and its flow below the fortress, it could be arranged a little nicer with some details from the past, the price is very acceptable and corresponds to what is offered

It's a 'must visit ', it seems to cover the entire top of the hill with impenetrable walls full of archery slots and canon stations. You get the feeling that the people could survive any siege. I wish we'd brought a picnic but my partner and I had dinner in the castle restaurant: it was the best meal we had in a week of eating out every day.

What a place. Really beautiful. Terrain maybe a little bit challenging for some people. The falls the lake the small fishes birds the wildlife is just amazing! Not to be missed when in Croatia. The wooden walkway at the end was the most amazing part. The view was spectacular.

This is a natural miracle! Everything is well organized-after you buy the ticket, a boat takes you to the park in about 20 minutes. The whole journey is fantastic. Then waterfalls and paths within the park are very natural and amazingly.

An amazing series of waterfalls in a beautiful valley. I had not heard of Krka national park before visiting Croatia as it is not as well known as the Plitvice park but it is just as beautiful. We visited on a day trip from Split in late October. It is about 1 hour 20mins from Split. There are many different areas of the park and we visited Lozovac. Here there is a large free car park with free toilets near to the ticket office. The start of the waterfalls walk is in a valley about 1km from the ticket office. There is a regular shuttle bus every 15 mins or you can walk down a gravel path. We chose to walk down. The path is quite steep in places so you might want to use the shuttle bus to return as it is uphill on the way back. There are more toilets and a cafe near to the start of the boardwalk which is about 3.5km long and is suitable for buggies. There are lots of little streams and small falls but the main falls is near the end just after another cafe and some gift stalls. The whole valley is so beautiful, especially in the autumn and we got lucky on a cloudless sunny day.
Waldo B — Google review
Best to visit in sunny weather, beautiful waterfalls and lots of benches and restaurants within the park from skradin side. Very bad direction labelling, the trail is not clearly marked so we ended going around a circle instead of forward to the monastery :( Ask for directions along every way!

Fantastic natural parc! We took the boat from Skrandic and walked the whole round hike to the top and back again. Lot of wildlife and panoramic spots! Don't take a stroller with you, there are a lot of stairs and if you skip them, you'll miss many viewpoints.

Beautiful scenery. Easy walking. Well signposted. Only downside was the price of food and drink inside the park, absolutely disgraceful. €7 for a pouch with less fries than a McDonald's and €19.50 for a pathetic burger. I get not wanting people to bring food and drink in due to rubbish and cross contamination of food/nature but sort your prices out.

Saint James’ Cathedral

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Saint James’ Cathedral is a remarkable Gothic-Renaissance structure located in the heart of Sibenik's old town. The cathedral boasts over 70 sculpted heads on its facade and is considered one of Croatia's greatest architectural masterpieces. Built entirely of stone without any binding material, it showcases a blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Gothic-Renaissance styles. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions like St.
Both inside and outside of the cathedral were impressive. Sunday mass was calming..71 sculpted faces adorning the side of the church was a rare finding for us... sitting down at a coffee shop. Amazing details of the faces...Dome was also magnificent...
TT O — Google review
Nice cathedral, great work by Juraj Dalmatinac but the 7 euros entrance fee is definitely too high..
Piotr M — Google review
Rising from the historic heart of Šibenik, the Cathedral of St. James is more than just a magnificent structure; it is a living testament to human faith, ingenuity, and spirit. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a sublime fusion of Gothic and Renaissance styles, a unique architectural masterpiece that tells a story not just of stone and mortar, but of the souls who shaped it. Crafted entirely from local limestone and marble, the cathedral stands as a tribute to the master builders who, across more than a century, meticulously brought their vision to life. Its most celebrated feature, the frieze of 71 sculpted human faces, each one unique, looks down upon the city with a quiet dignity. These are not merely decorative elements; they are the faces of the people—the merchants, the sailors, the artisans—who lived and breathed in this city, forever immortalized in stone. Each face seems to hold a secret, a memory, a silent prayer echoing through the ages. Inside, the light filters through the magnificent rose window, illuminating the intricate carvings and the hushed sanctity of the space. The absence of traditional building materials like wood or brick gives the interior a pure, almost ethereal quality. It is a space where the past feels palpable, where every arch and every column seems to whisper the names of those who stood there before, seeking solace, celebrating joy, and finding strength. The Cathedral of St. James is not just an architectural marvel; it is the spiritual and cultural anchor of Šibenik. To stand before it is to feel a connection to generations past, to appreciate the profound power of art, and to be reminded that the most enduring legacies are those built not just with hands, but with heart. It is a monument that speaks a universal language of beauty and devotion, a timeless beacon for all who seek inspiration.

One of the cathedrals that is worth the entrance fee (payable in cash). Though small, the baptistery is quite impressive. Outside the cathedral also holds many interesting details to look at. Take the brochure once inside the cathedral to read. Is well laid out information. The cathedral ticket comes with a free visit to Civitas Sacra museum (can skip unless you need find a place to escape the sun).

I visited on a weekday to avoid the larger crowds. The cathedral is one of the most significant and stunning architectural landmarks in Croatia. Since I wasn’t wearing the appropriate clothing (shorts), I chose not to enter out of respect, so I was only able to admire its exterior. Even so, the façade was breathtaking, and I look forward to returning someday to experience the interior as well. For photography enthusiasts, this spot is truly postcard-worthy.

Absolutely stunning, beautiful blend of gothic and renaissance architecture. I reccomend this and for art history lovers, and for people who just like to watch beautiful things. The heads on the fasade are just stunning!

The cathedral & the whole of Šibenik old town are stunning. Get there early or stay late to avoid the crowds. You won't regret it
Phil C — Google review
The must see in the cathedral is the small baptistery with carved ceiling. The 7€ entrance fee does also include the museum in a separate location. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to visit, so the fee is quite high. They only take cash too. They do provide a brochure in multiple languages so that you can do a self-guided tour, which is much better than many other cathedrals.

Beach Mala Raduča is a popular destination in Croatia, often considered one of the best beaches in the country. This beach is known for its superb pebble and fine stone shoreline, with a netted swimming area that ensures safety.
Beach is really nice, though you couldn’t stop for 2 minutes in the shade of an unused beach umbrella because they would try to charge you 25 euros.

Small to medium pebbles. Turquoise water. Lots of bars, restaurants and pastry shops around. Pedal boats, jet skis, trampoline and hell of a lot souvenir stands. Very crowded so take that in consideration.

Beautiful, family-friendly beach! The beach is gorgeous and perfect for children, with safe, shallow areas and nearby playgrounds for extra entertainment. There are plenty of food options close by — from bakeries and restaurants to coffee spots — so you can easily spend the whole day here. Parking can be tricky, but there is paid parking available both by the hour and for daily tickets.

A beautiful pebble beach with crystal clear water. The sea gets deep fairly quickly and beach shoes are ideal. The views to Primosten are stunning. We paid 25 euro for 3 sun loungers and a large umbrella. There is a great choice of places to eat and drink nearby. We parked at the paid car park 15 euro for the day, just a few minutes walk, however there is a large free car park about 20 minutes walk away. We visited at the end if June on a Sunday, it was fairly busy but still a very relaxed day.

The water was clean, the area was well-maintained, and there were restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby. Everything you need is close by. I really enjoyed it and recommend it for a relaxing day by the sea.

Church of St. George

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
The Church of St. George, located in the old part of Primosten, is a historic gem dating back to the 15th century and underwent significant reconstruction in 1760. It houses precious religious artifacts such as the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary with silver adornments and a painting by Master Cusi from 1719. The church sits atop a hill offering stunning panoramic views of Primosten, making it an ideal spot to visit, especially at sunset.
St. George’s Church in Primošten is a beautiful historic site, perched atop the island with stunning views. First recorded in 1681, it offers a peaceful and scenic spot to explore. A charming alleyway leads up to the church from the main square, adding to the experience of wandering through the old town. Worth a visit for both its history and picturesque setting!"

Great views and nice places to sit after the hike up. I was not expecting the cemetery. So many more recent burials in a very old town. Intriguing.

Slight incline path up to amazing church cemetery and view.

St. George’s Church is one of the most beautiful sites in Primošten. The church at the top of the island was first recorded in 1681 by the glagolitic parish priest Pavo Bernic. A nice alleyway leads here from the main square in the old town (and from other directions as well). There is a graveyard surrounding the church so it’s important to be respectful and not just look for nice views of Primošten walking over the graves. There are also public toilets at the site that were open and free. You should definitely visit this beautiful place. This is a nice location to witness wonderful Primošten sunsets.

A special place where you could find inner peace.

Very nicely arranged surroundings of the church. A neatly path from the market (by the way there is a non-payable toilet). The interior is not so rich, but it is a beautiful church. Beautiful view of the surrounding area (the sea, the city ...), although the viewpoint is a cemetery (it is not good if we atep on a grave to take a good picture of Surrounding nature...). Otherwise it's worth a visit.
Damjan R — Google review
Primosten has changed a lot over the years. It's crowded and expensive now. However, this church is as well as a beautiful view and a lovely graveyard with fun geocaches to find. Worth visiting. Also has regular mass
Barbora K — Google review
Good scenery from here, you can go inside the church, which has some strange paintings (modern/old style) Cemetery attached, you have to walk up some stairs to get here as it’s top of the hill

Forest Park Marjan, located in Split, is a beloved natural oasis offering a serene escape from the city. With its lush pine forests, peaceful walking paths, and breathtaking viewpoints, it perfectly showcases the beauty of the Dalmatian coast. Whether you're into hiking, cycling, or simply admiring the scenic views, Marjan provides a harmonious blend of nature and urban life.
An absolute must-do while in Split if you’re able to walk up hundreds of steps! Loved the gorgeous trees while hiking up to the top of this mountain! Early June was quite hot, however there’s plenty of shade from the trees and a fountain for fresh water at the chapel (half way point) and there’s a lovely beach on the other side to cool you down. There seemed to be a road for those wanting to drive up as well. summer

What a place. Very steep slopes and many, many steps leading up. We were very presently surprised by a ditto train at the peak waiting to take people down to the old town. We hopped on that for the decent, saved a fair walk. If able, it's wonderful lots of nature, plants, and birds to see topped off with a stunning view at the top.plenty of stop breaks and places in the shade. Take a bottle of water with you.

A park worth to walk. Olease reserve drinking water and some snacks. Dista nces are not far, but You'll have up and downhill and it's demanding in heat of the sun. There are some water posts (at the old zoo etc.) and the water ia drinkable. There was a modern sightseeing tower and it was free to visit up! And there is a lift You can use, so it' s accessible by wheelchair and baby trolleys! Worth to visit!

We spent a few hours exploring Split Old Town and were truly impressed. The heart of the city is Diocletian’s Palace, built in 305 AD, with its Roman temples, cathedral, and narrow alleys that now host lively cafés and restaurants. The mix of Roman remains and later Venetian architecture creates a unique atmosphere where history and daily life blend beautifully. The Old Town is full of charm, energy, and architectural treasures. The only drawback is the limited access to public toilets, usually paid (1 €). Still, it’s a must-see destination that leaves a lasting impression.

The Old Town Hall (Stara gradska vijećnica) in Split is a charming historic landmark right in the heart of the old town. Its beautiful architecture and lively surroundings make it a great place to stop, take photos, and feel the spirit of Split’s past. A lovely spot that adds character and elegance to the city’s historic center.

The Old Town Hall is beautiful. The area has many shops and restaurants. But most of the shops were not open on the weekends. I saw many shops that had items I wanted to purchase but couldn't because we were there on Saturday. However, almost all the restaurants in the Old Town Hall are open for business.

Walking and entering most museums teaches you a lot about getting to know a bit more of Croatian culture from that time when they were very detail-oriented and methodical in what they did, and walking through all those hallways you see more artistic and cultural details.

Diocletian's Palace, located in Split, Croatia, was built for the Roman emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD. Although referred to as a palace, it is more like a massive fortress with half of it serving as Diocletian's residence and the rest housing a military garrison. Today, this ancient site is part of Split's historic core and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is a must see on split. Drink up the atmosphere and engineering that has made this place last for so long. Great views from the Bell tower of the whole old town and across the bay. Very well priced and signage in English as well as other languages. Can be busy when cruise ships are in but this is just the part of the hustle and bustle of life now in the city of Split.

VIATOR tour on October 6, 2025. Guide was excellent and well informed local.. He willingly answered questions and kept the tour at a decent pace. He also gave updates on Game of Thrones film locations which was an added surprise. There are many stairs and walking can be a challenge. From the cruise port you can see the Palace structure. It is about a 20 minute walk. Follow the waters edge. We were rushed and had to take a cab at a ridiculous gouge of 20 Euro. We had lunch inside the palace walls. Very reasonable and good. We walked back to the cruise shop, no problem. The promenade (Riva) is filled with restaurants, …nice way to spend the afternoon. Recommend that VIATOR have an option of Adult +18, or a Family Tour. The children on our tour were highly distracting and uninterested in this historical tour, otherwise it was a very good 90 minutes.

This was the most beautiful experience! For history nerds, to influencers, to everyday tourists I'd highly recommend the palace. We absolutely loved it! Take advantage of the package deals to see all the sites like the bell tower, crypt and more. Otherwise, incredible food is found inside and outside the walls

Cool spot. When you walk in, you'll see the GoT scene where Daenerys chained her dragons. You don't need to pay for tickets for this part. The paid entrance is fast (in November), and you can check out the place pretty quick (less than an hour). You'll see the palace's storage rooms and old Roman ruins.

The Saint Domnius Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of St. Duje, is a historic site in Split, Croatia. Built in 305 CE as the Mausoleum of Diocletian, it is considered one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals still in use within its original structure. The cathedral features a Romanesque bell tower and is located within Diocletian's Palace.
Very nice building with beautiful golden interior. If you are able to climb steep stairs I recommend to visit the tower (costs extra), the view gives you a complete overview over Split. Great!

Absolutely stunning, this is a must see if you are in Croatia. I highly suggest taking a guided walking tour with an expert as there are so many aspects to this palace. You get a sense of feel of the history, the culture, the different times in the different centuries. This is a great place to visit for somebody who is into architecture, going back to the 15th and 16th century, where you can see the architectural influences going back into the generations, just based on the stones that were used in the different sections of the cathedral.
Stella M — Google review
We tried several times to get inside the cathedral, but to no avail. A female "gatekeeper" stood at the door, barring anyone she considered "tourists." If local authorities position the cathedral solely as a place of prayer and not a tourist attraction, then why include it in the list of tourist attractions? This division between "us" and "them" is irritating and depressing. The cathedral's bell tower is visible from everywhere in the Old City. It's ornate and impressive.
Game G — Google review
My Experience of the Cathedral of Split – A Journey Through History Visiting the Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Split was a truly unforgettable experience. Standing in the heart of Diocletian’s Palace, the cathedral is not just a building – it’s a powerful reminder of the layers of history that have shaped the city. To walk through a structure that was once the mausoleum of a Roman emperor and is now a Christian cathedral still in use today was deeply moving. The contrast between its ancient Roman architecture and its sacred Christian function made the experience feel both timeless and alive. Climbing the bell tower offered breathtaking views of Split and the Adriatic Sea, but what struck me most was the feeling of being surrounded by centuries of faith, art, and resilience. The carved wooden doors, the stone columns, the quiet atmosphere inside – everything spoke of a long and rich story that continues to this day. For me, the cathedral was the highlight of my visit to Split. It brought history to life in a way few places can. If you're seeking a place where the ancient and the spiritual meet, this cathedral is an experience not to be missed. ZazaPress

The oldest Catholic cathedral in the world (consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD) that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date. The structure itself, built in AD 305 is the Mausoleum of Diocletian. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower. The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius.
Vadim S — Google review
Much smaller than I was expecting but then I learnt it was the Emperor's mausoleum before being repurposed in the 7th century. It is worth the visit and part of the multi-site ticket. Pity that too many large tour groups try to go into the small space at once. You need to buy the tickets from the ticket office on the other side of the square.
Simon R — Google review
I was very disappointed with the service I received. The staff member sold me the wrong ticket, and when I pointed it out, I calmly explained that I was even willing to pay the price difference for the correct one. Unfortunately, she said she couldn't refund me or charge me just the difference — instead, I would have to buy a whole new ticket. It felt like total disregard for the situation. There was no flexibility, no attempt to solve the issue, just a flat "no." This kind of attitude really takes away from the experience.

Little work to get up , if you have gone to the top of the Vatican it will be peanuts for you. It’s also less impressive, i didn’t like the guards at the entrance I find them rude , it’s also small but the courtyard is very interesting and you get a beautiful view of top
