The mall is never too crowded making it easy to navigate around the different shops. The location is convenient as it's situated close to the train station and there are taxi stands nearby. Walking around the mall is enjoyable especially when the weather is pleasant as there are numerous shops selling various items.
Nice shopping center mall. Lots of options for everyone. Good food too! I ended up sleeping here in between stations. It was a pleasant experience, the weather was nice, and there was live music!

Very open shopping area. All linked by stairs, ramps, and overhead footpaths.

This is a wonderful location for a family outing, offering numerous shops to browse and a diverse range of dining options. Additionally, there is a cinema and an arcade for entertainment. One could easily spend an entire day in this area, and if desired, the nearby train station provides easy access to other destinations, such as Laporte, for further exploration.

It is a great place for shopping and eating. There are many fun places to go. It was never crowded and always nice to walk around. You can get some very good sunset pictures as well. Its close to the train station so transportation is never a problem as well as a taci stand down below. I went there in my last days in Japan circa 2009 with my two older "sisters".

LaLaport Ebina is a contemporary mall located near the station that houses several fashionable retailers, a food court, supermarket and an area dedicated for children's play. The mall offers a diverse range of shops and restaurants including Subway, with most of them displaying their names in English. Additionally, the concierge service provides help and support to customers. Halal food is also available at the fresh market. The mall's highlight is its engaging kids activity center which adds to an enjoyable shopping experience.
We were walking around the streets near Ebina Station when we saw LaLaport. There is one in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), but we have never been there before. So it's our first time entering LaLaport. Bought a foldable umbrella from Style Factory, and had some meatballs and skewers at ni-ho-n-i-chi. The mall is bright and spacious, with sufficient food options. We didn't explore the entire mall, as we had to catch a bus back. Recommended.

Beautiful building. Tons of stores. The Hungry Tiger has some amazing food and not expensive. There are plenty of stores that you can find anything. It’s convenient by train trains stop at the mall.
Sami R — Google review
Great shopping center with a wide variety of stores and restaurants. Plenty of parking, free with validation, or easy access from Ebina Station.
Lorena C — Google review
LaLaport Ebina is a large shopping mall directly connected to Ebina Station, which makes it very convenient. It has a wide range of shops including fashion, home goods, kids’ stores, and a big supermarket (Lopia). There are many restaurants and cafes, plus a cinema, so you can easily spend a whole day here. Parking is available but can be expensive (1000 yen per hour) if you don’t shop enough to get validation, and weekends are especially crowded both in the mall and the parking lot. The facilities are modern and clean, with elevators, nursing rooms, and accessible toilets, so it’s family and stroller friendly. On the positive side, everything you need is in one place and the station connection makes it easy even without a car. On the downside, popular restaurants often have long waiting lines, and during sales or holidays it feels very crowded. Overall, it’s a lively and convenient shopping destination, great for families, couples, or just hanging out.
Wajira S — Google review
Directly connected to the mall. Just walk 2-4 minutes. And many stores are available. Foos court is also there. Kids friendly too.
Shobhna V — Google review
The place and everything itself is good but i think they should make a prayer place/room for muslims so that muslims can also pray comfortably while enjoying their time in the mall

The queue is ridiculously long on a Sat morning to noon. I think I waited for an hour where the walk could be faster and enjoyable. Sadly I can’t refund it the FreePass. If I had knew this queue, I wouldn’t have purchase the cable ticket. Oh well…

I travel a lot and been many places , many cable cars . This one is my second worst overpriced cable car after Porto in Portugal cable car. Whole little village is basically made up o car parking places with nobody there to park , with probably 50 tourists a day as whole cable car attraction is Shadowed by scam of expensive parking, difficult to get there and once you there you have to climb steep steps up for about 1km then to find out that cable car runs from nowhere to nowhere that cost ¥1120 return and only runs for 3 min. No views on going up as car surrounded by trees on both sides. Not sure bout other reviews as probably made by locals and to prove how bad there is and badly managed, place was absolutely empty . I was on cable car alone , with no tourist to bee seen anywhere as like myself who drove to the place to find out overpriced carparks and people turning around and going away. I did managed to park for free by police station and had to walk quite a bit . Even is someone decides to go there keep in mind that it is not for older people or who is unfit as getting to cable car alone takes most of your energy and whole village is ran by Micky mouse

You need to get there after passing lots of stairs. It is little tiring but fun to see Japanese style shops. The signs on the stairs are encouraging and fun.

(Translated by Google) I used it just in time for the illumination season of autumn leaves. It was around 10:30 on a Sunday morning and there was a 30 minute wait. Waited 60 minutes to go down. I walked down the mountain instead of just going down, but it was a pretty steep stone staircase, so I was glad I used it for the climb. (Translated by Google) This visit will be on September 19, 2024. This is a cable car station that goes up and down Mt. Two trains are connected by a single cable, and both trains stop and depart at the same time at the intermediate station (in fact, trains in both directions stopped at Daisendera Station on both occasions). The driver's clothes looked like Aloha. It took me just over 3 minutes to get down the mountain, which I had taken a lot of effort to climb. Oyama Afuri Shrine

Mentioned on
11 lists
Shinto shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled on the scenic Mount Oyama, Oyama Afuri Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine renowned for its rainmaking deities. Visitors can reach the shrine by riding the new cable cars, offering breathtaking views of the Kanto plain and ocean. The shrine's young priest, 27th in a line of spiritual leaders, provides insightful guidance on the surprising history of the Oyama pilgrimage.
Oyama Afuri Shrine is a must-visit! I went yesterday, and the commute was incredibly convenient. What made the experience even more magical was the snowfall—it created such a serene and breathtaking atmosphere. The views from the shrine were absolutely stunning, and the peaceful surroundings made it a perfect place to reflect and appreciate nature. Highly recommend visiting, especially during winter!
Elif — Google review
Here you no need entrance tickets to enter. You can take Oyama cable car or hiking to reach here. We took cable car from Oyama Cable Station to Afuri Jinja Station to reach Oyama Afuri Shrine. The autumn leaves are beautiful. It's red in colour.
Julie H — Google review
Beautiful historical shrine dating back 2200 years! The views are spectacular and the trail the summit is so beautiful aswell! There food up here but it closes around 1700. Definitely don't hesitate this is a perfect place to visit over and over especially with family visiting!
A S — Google review
Oyama Afuri Shrine is a breathtaking spiritual destination nestled on the slopes of Mount Oyama in Kanagawa. The journey to the shrine itself is an adventure—starting with a cable car ride that offers stunning views of the lush forest and surrounding valleys. Once you reach the shrine, the peaceful atmosphere and panoramic views of the Sagami Bay and Mount Fuji on clear days make it truly unforgettable. The shrine is rich in history and deeply connected to local culture. It’s especially famous for its association with water, as it is believed to bring blessings for rain and good harvests. The shrine grounds are beautifully maintained, with traditional architecture that blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings. If you visit during the autumn season, you’ll be treated to a spectacular display of red and orange foliage, making the experience even more magical. There are also hiking trails leading to the mountain summit for those who want to challenge themselves and enjoy more incredible vistas. Whether you’re seeking a spiritual retreat, a nature escape, or simply a unique cultural experience, Oyama Afuri Shrine is a must-visit. Don’t forget to try the local tofu dishes in the area after your visit!
Nikita H — Google review
A beautiful spot to visit indeed..access cost via the cable car sitting on a angle of 45 degrees..if your up for hike to the top of the mountain be prepared for some very steep scrambling on the rock stairs which meander all the way to the top. I recommend carrying a step to help you on the way..you def will feel you've done a hike the next day..
Gerard M — Google review
It is awful! It is incredible crowded. One hour waiting for the cable car. Another hour waiting for the bus. The day view and night light show is not surprising. Generally, I only recommend Oyama temple and Mount Oyama, not here!
Azreal W — Google review
What an absolutely beautiful shrine on Mount Oyama. You can hike the stairways, or save your legs and take the Cable Car (¥1270 r/t). We have been visiting Oyama-San for so many years, and this shrine is simply beautiful. There are many smaller shrines on this mountain, and those are also worthy of the visit. Make sure to walk below the tea houses, over to the waterfall shrine. Pay respects to the mountain, and her gifts. We still have so many beautiful memories and plan to make more still.
Diana R — Google review
One of the best places to visit in autumn. The vibrant colors of the leaves would really take your breath away. Going up, there are two options, hiking or riding the cable car(¥450 one way). Hiking has two options as well, Onna-zaka (easier way) or otoko-zaka (steeper way), both ways would entail walking lots of stairs! The steeper way is less crowded, hence more chances of seeing wild deers! Hiking takes about more or less than an hour depending on pace, it’s most important to take your time and enjoy! There are food stalls selling mochis, coffee, sandwiches, soft cream, noodles and even beer near the shrine. After the shrine, you can go all the way up to the summit of Mt. Oyama which takes about two hours or just get down by walking or by taking cable car. The last trip for cable car is at 5:00 on weekends and 4:30 on weekdays. Getting here earlier would give more time to enjoy and relax!

Mount Oyama

Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
Mountains
Mount Oyama, standing at 1,252 meters tall, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts seeking breathtaking panoramic views. The mountain has a rich history dating back over 2000 years to the founding of the original Oyama Afuri Jinja Shrine. Accessible from Isehara Station, just an hour's train ride from Shinjuku, visitors can choose to hike the trails or take the Oyama Cable Car up to the shrine.
Very nice hiking. Not the easiest one, as there are many stairs. We chose Onnazaka, and then climbed up via Miharashidai, and went down via Fujimidai. Next time I'd choose the Fujimidai path for climbing up, as it seems not so steep. For us from the Cable car station to come back (including lunch and snack breaks) it took 5+ hours.
Aurelijus Z — Google review
It is a nice hiking spot in Kanagawa which is slightly more challenging than Mt Takao but still very easy for most people. Recommend for those who want to explore hiking but don’t have the experience. There are also cable car available and bring you up all the way to Afuri Shrine if you’re just into sightseeing.
Dylan L — Google review
It took about 3 hours to hike up and down from Afuri Jinja after taking the cable car.
Ghifaroza — Google review
Beautiful place. I recommend taking the cable car, it has a nice view 😁 you can from there climb all the way to the top, but beware, its a long hard road, and if youre not in good shape, it will take even longer than 90 minutes. Just enjoy the view from the jinja 😊
Lucas W — Google review
Very nice trail, take around 5 hours up and down, many many stairs, but what a view at the end 🥳 nice temple at middle of the way up.
Guillaume C — Google review
mt oyama is quite beautiful place for hiking lovers and beginners who want to try hiking.lot of crowd on public holiday hiking and through cable cars also to visit jinja and climb mountain too.good japanese and western food available near jinja area so good pair of hiking shoes hand towels and lot of energy on a sunny day 👍👍👍👍,even lot of kids did hiking on yhat day .approx 360stairs to catch thr cable car and lots of sovereign shops around.family can enjoy and get fit.
Gnana K — Google review
Parking around the base of Mt. Oyama is plentiful. There are several official parking lots, and many privately run lots where you can park for about 1,000 yen for the entire day. Finding a spot is rarely a problem. If you plan to reach the top, the cable car is the most practical option. Hiking from the very bottom all the way to the summit on foot would take a long time and is extremely taxing. Before you reach the cable car, you walk up a long set of steps lined with small shops on both sides. Among them is a small minced-katsu shop that I highly recommend. Their minced katsu is outstanding—easily one of the best treats on the mountain. I always stop there, either before or after the hike (sometimes both). It’s delicious, inexpensive, and an easy highlight of the trip. The mountain itself doesn’t have particularly dangerous or treacherous sections, but the combination of steepness and distance makes it a serious workout. Even if you’re generally fit, you’ll feel it the next day in your legs. Reaching the top feels like a genuine accomplishment. Compared with Mt. Takao, Mt. Oyama is noticeably tougher and more demanding on the quads and calves. The view at the summit is fine but not spectacular. The true reward is the climb itself—the physical challenge and the feeling of pushing yourself. There’s not much at the top aside from a small shelter. There are no shops, so bring enough food and water for both the ascent and descent. Overall, Mt. Oyama is one of my favorite mountains to climb. It’s challenging but still approachable for families; even my 10-year-old son can make it to the top. Just make sure to wear proper footwear and start early enough that you won’t be rushing down before sunset. The first time I went, we started too late and ended up hurrying down in the dark, which I do not recommend. There are two main routes to the summit. The standard route via the shrine or temple is shorter and gets you to the top more quickly, but it’s much steeper and requires a lot of big step-ups. The alternative route is more winding and gradual, making it less intense but noticeably longer. If you enjoy a solid leg workout, a clear challenge, and a memorable day outdoors, Mt. Oyama is well worth the trip.
Masa R — Google review
We climbed Mt. Oyama on 9th March 2024. At this point most of the upper part of the mountain is covered with snow, and sometimes it gets slippery when you encounter hard snow, be careful and be prepared. The cable car stops the operations after 5 Pm, so plan accordingly. The view from top is beautiful, and to explore more of it I hope you climb it yourself and experience the beauty 😍😍.

One of the best super sento Onsens in Tokyo. It is located next to the famous Yomiuri Land Amusement Park and the very best combo having Japanese traditional restaurant inside. The bath contains dry sauna, salt wet sauna, inside and outside onsen water, hydro massage and even Korean akasuri and several body massage plans. Love this place visiting with family every weekend. Not close to the station, but could be reached either by bus or taxi. Free of charge lockers, car parking are available. Very recommended!

Visitors can immerse themselves in original artwork, enjoy exclusive animated shorts in the cozy cinema, and wander through the rooftop garden featuring the impressive Robot Soldier from Laputa Castle in the Sky.
What a lovely place to visit for Ghibli fans. There's so much history and behind the scenes of original artwork and makings of various movies. Tickets are quite challenging to come by so don't expect to just show up the day of and expect to get in as you need to book well in advance! Be respectful and do not take pictures on the inside, only outside. For those tight on time, you can do the entire museum, with short movie feature, and shopping in about 1.5 hours. Definitely worth the trip and knocked off my bucket list.

This place is magical! Every detail has been considered to make the Ghibli Museum fun for both kids and adults. Don't miss the screening for a short film that can only be watched at the museum. Photography is not allowed inside the building but outside is ok. Tickets must be purchased in advance for entry.

The Ghibli Museum was the highlight of my 2-week trip to Japan!! I cannot describe adequately what a fulfilling experience this was. Ticket reservations are required and getting tickets internationally is honestly based on luck when entering the queue at time of them opening. Seems like they split the population of tickets in half between international vs domestic, so if you have a friend/family who lives in Japan and have a Japanese address/phone #, you will have much better luck getting tickets due to availability. As for the museum itself, there are plenty of reviews and videos regarding the exhibitions and highlights. It made me appreciate the Studio Ghibli films even more and how much effort goes into the making of a film due to volume of frames, laying out storyboards, etc. Photos inside the exhibits are prohibited which I also think allows visitors to just be more immersed in the content and visuals that Miyazaki himself had a hand in designing. If you get a chance to go to Ghibli Museum—prioritize this among all the other places and things to do in Japan. Even my husband, who has only seen a couple films so not a full SG “enthusiast”, had a great time at this museum and thought the exhibits were fascinating :)

Loved this place! It really feels like stepping into a Ghibli movie with colorful hallways, spiral stairs, stained glass, and so many tiny details everywhere. The exhibits show how the films are made with sketches and storyboards, and there’s a monthly rotating short film you can only watch here, which makes it extra special. The gift shop has lots of exclusive items like postcards, figures, plushies, and ceramics, it’s definitely worth browsing. I also stopped by the cafe and got a chocolate cake and black tea; the cake was moist, fluffy, and not too sweet. You need to buy tickets in advance (they sell out quickly and aren’t sold at the door), and you can only take photos outside. The rooftop garden with the Castle in the Sky robot is such a lovely space.

Finally got the chance to visited the Ghibli Museum with my friend. We went there as the weather was cloudy and end up raining cat and dog. As someone who enjoys Ghibli films this is one of the bucketlist that must visit. it’s a wonderful place to explore. You can queue to enjoy the exclusive short films screen monthly, artwork, drawings, a short animation, gift shop and the atmosphere was wonderful. When you enter the museum be mindful because photos and videos are strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s a nice good experience and worth to visit especially if you are a Ghibli fan. The ticket are cheap but you have to make a reservation book a ticket a month before.

The Ghibli museum is such a magical place. The decor and exhibits were fascinating. The details of the artwork all beautiful. There is a ticket (film strip souvenir)for a short film included in the admission - the movie was so cute. There is no photography allowed indoors. You just have to appreciate it all with your eyes. We had tickets for the 4pm entry, and in November it gets a bit dark quickly for the exterior shots but it wasn't too crowded.

I enjoyed this museum very much! An indoor museum that focuses on the history and animation of Studio Ghibli. You can immerse yourself into Hayao Miyazaki’s work and explore some of the intricate details found in this museum. A lovely place to relax and get lost into the world of Ghibli! Try to visit on a weekday and first slot in the AM ^_^
The A — Google review
We visited the museum in the morning slot, and the arrival felt quite charming, even though the neighborhood we walked through beforehand was a bit less clean than expected. The museum itself is surrounded by a pleasant environment and has a cozy atmosphere. Inside, the building feels a bit dated, but the exhibitions were interesting and offered a glimpse into the world of Studio Ghibli. Some areas were mildly interactive, though I felt the museum could benefit from more engaging, hands-on elements – especially considering the theme. The space itself is smaller than I imagined and could definitely be expanded to create a richer experience. A practical note: all descriptions inside were only in Japanese, so non-Japanese speakers might miss some context, and photography or phone use is strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s clearly designed with children in mind. If you’re visiting Tokyo as a group of adults, I would not consider it a must-see, as there are many other attractions in the city that may be more rewarding. Still, it was a unique and memorable experience for any fan of Ghibli.

Inokashira Park, a 95-acre city park established in 1917, offers a serene escape with its picturesque pond, boating facilities, and scenic trails. The park is renowned for its cherry blossoms, attracting crowds to admire the majestic weeping cherry blossom tree at Rikugien Garden. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely date with attractions like swan boats, temples to explore, and opportunities for picnics.
Lovely park, an oasis of tranquility in the midst of a bustling city. We were surprised by how calm and large it is. Beautifully laid out, spotless and numerous activities. The park also contains a small zoo. The lake adds to the overall serenity. You can rent a pedalo, or a rowing boat, to admire the scenery from the water. The train station is very close to an entrance, and the park is free of charge. Afterwards cross the station to find yourself in covered shopping streets. Plenty of shops and restaurants around, including in the train station.

Such a beautiful, tranquil park with a lake in the middle. You can even hire out different boats for half an hour from a dock (row boats, Swan pedal boats) to take across the lake. I took a pedal boats with a friend. This was such a great and fun experience. There are also a few shrines around the park, and a few streets with eateries and shops to look around if you get bored. There's also a playground for little kids. The greenery is also spectacular, especially against the backdrop of the lake. I went during June but the park was still very lush. Highly recommend this spot as a nice break from the busy Tokyo city.

Around 1 hour by train from Ginza to Kichijoji, you can visit this beautiful vast park. There are a lot of things you can see and do here. They have a lot of different areas, from the lakes to the playground and baseball fields. Great for picnic! There is also the Ghibli Museum here. Make sure to book your ticket in advanced as they do not receive walk-in entry (April 2025 visit).

Wow, I was completely blown away how beautiful the park is. Clean, very well maintained, quiet and laid-back. And if you are familiar with Japanese animes and video games, you would have come across this park, and it looks exactly like how it was depicted. There are plenty of trails, and I think the park will look very different as seasons change. The park is open all year round, but I suggest avoiding visiting on a Tuesday, as most cafes are closed.

Inokashira Park Zoo is a family-friendly destination in Tokyo, Japan. It features interactive experiences where visitors can touch and hold small animals. The zoo is divided into two sections: one dedicated to breeding and releasing mandarin ducks into the wild, along with other indigenous animals like red-crowned cranes, Amur cats, rhesus monkeys, and Yaku deer; the other section houses various species including tropical birds.
Great zoo with so much to see and do, would recommend at least 2-3 hours to fully experience and enjoy it. They also have a cafe and small shop, and the cherry trees were starting to bloom. You also get entry to the aquatic park with the one ticket which is nice.

This zoo is great! There is a lot to see and do with the sculpture garden and history museum areas as well as a number of areas with animals. What I like about this one is it was very open and animals weren't squished into tiny pens like we have seen before (at Ueno Zoo for example). There is also a second area across the bridge to see the water birds and to walk through more of the area. It's very beautiful and nice for a relaxing day wandering around.

Lovely local zoo with both land and aquatic sections. Squirrel habitat is adorable! We spent a couple of hours there enjoying both sides of the zoo, and it's an easy walk to the Ghibli Museum.

Beautiful little park and zoo. Like an oasis in the middle of the city. Not Tokyo. But Kichijoji. More like a town vibe. There are two parts to the zoo on either side of the road. They even have some larger mammals like an elephant. Although I haven’t seen the elephant. But most animals are badgers or squirrels. Very cute. You can enter the squirrel cage and absence them closely.

Nice place for kids. Convenient in terms of transportation and price. You can take bus from Kunitachi station, Chofu station or Mitaka station and get down right in front of the zoo. Perfect for a day out!

I can't stress enough how beautiful this park is during cherry blossoms season late March and early April, I came during early April 2022, and the flowers were beginning wilt and were falling off. I recommend in late March. The experience was once in a life time especially for those not coming back to Japan anytime soon. One of the most memorable experiences in Japan.

United Cinemas Toshimaen

Mentioned on

Movie theater
Water & Amusement Parks
United Cinemas Toshimaen is a popular cinema complex located near Toshimaen station. On Wednesdays, they offer affordable tickets for all the latest movies. The amenities are top-notch with comfortable seats and a good online booking system. They have a great selection of both foreign and domestic films, including blockbusters. Some theaters even have "loveseats" for couples. The cinema is spacious and offers various movie options, along with clean facilities and reasonably priced popcorn.
4DX is an advanced cinema technology that enhances the traditional movie-watching experience by incorporating physical effects and sensory elements that correspond to what’s happening on screen. Introduced by South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX, 4DX takes immersion to the next level by integrating the following features into movie theaters: Key Features of 4DX: 1. Motion Seats: • The seats in a 4DX theater are designed to move and tilt in synchronization with the on-screen action. These movements can replicate the feeling of flying, falling, or speeding along with the characters, providing a dynamic experience. 2. Environmental Effects: • Wind and Air Blasts: Fans and small jets of air can simulate breezes or gusts of wind, making action sequences, car chases, or open-air scenes feel more real. • Water Sprays: Fine mists or sprays of water are sometimes released during scenes involving rain, splashing, or underwater sequences, though audiences can opt to turn off the water feature if they prefer. • Fog and Smoke: Fog machines create smoke effects to correspond with explosions or misty environments, heightening the sense of immersion. • Scent: Certain scenes might be accompanied by scents that match the setting, like the smell of burning rubber during a car chase or the fragrance of flowers in a serene garden. 3. Lighting and Strobe Effects: • LED lights and strobe effects flash and change colors to mimic lightning, gunfire, or other visual elements from the movie, adding to the intensity. 4. Other Sensory Effects: • Ticklers and Vibrations: Some 4DX seats have built-in mechanisms that provide gentle vibrations or sensations, like a tickling effect on the legs, which can simulate crawling insects or enhance an action scene. • Temperature Control: Some theaters adjust the room temperature to match the environment in the movie, like making it cooler during a snowy scene or warmer during desert sequences. 4DX provides a cutting-edge cinema experience by combining motion, sound, and sensory effects, taking viewers beyond the screen. It’s perfect for those who want to elevate their movie-watching experience, especially with high-action, visually rich films. However, it may not be for everyone, particularly those who prefer a more conventional and quiet theater setting.

An unexpected visit to this city, Toshimaen 豊島園 and found this very stylish cinemas ! Love the lobby design , they have both ticket booths and ticket machines. Gift store has many good items for sale. The snack shop has the very popular popcorns and hot dogs , good food and were placed in a beautiful tray. I didn't have time to watch a movie that day, hope I can go again to watch a movie.

As a nomad that has worked in a few countries, I can vouch that this cinema is probably my favourite cinema ever, not just in Japan, but ever! Located in Toshimaen, 30 seconds walk from Toshimaen Station, the cinema is super HUGE and SPACIOUS. They offer lots of movies option, comfortable seat, clean place, good popcorn, good food, and good movie price as well. I am a regular here and I always go at least 2 times a week. Also, I am very impressed on how POLITE and NICE the staff and managers are. I am not the type to give reviews to places, but this is an exception. Currently they are selling popcorn and waffles near the escalator with very affordable price and delicious taste. Again, I am very impressed! (I recommend their caramel popcorn and chocolate waffle, taste amazing!) Don't forget to visit this cinema when you're around the area. Cheers!

This is one of my favorite movie theatres. It is less than a minute from the station. The place is clean and often has little crowds so it is a nice place to relax. There is a nice seating area aswell. It is only 2 stories as well. Compared to other tokyo movie theaters it is the most chill movie theater I've been too. There are also some good places to eat nearby while waiting for your movie to start.
チャーリーCharlie — Google review
Beautiful big cinema with comfortable seats and the imax movie theatre was excellent. The popcorn is very reasonably priced with different flavours. The ticket collection system was very easy to use and everything worked very efficiently.
Anna T — Google review
Comfortable seats, good online booking system, terrible times available for new 2D movies. The amenities are largely very good. The selection of films, foreign and domestic, are generally quite good (they get all the blockbusters). It's a toos-up whether an animated film from abroad has subtitles or dubbing. Most theatres have "loveseats" for couples, but these seats are often booked out by singles. Kind of annoying, really, when you want a date night with your special movie-going someone.

Takaosan Yakuōin Yūkiji Temple

Sights & Landmarks
Takaosan Yakuōin Yukiji Temple, located on a sacred mountain in Tokyo, was established in the mid-8th century and is known for its well-preserved natural forest. The temple features tengu statues and offers a serene setting for visitors to explore. Additionally, the area surrounding the temple is designated as Meiji-no-Mori Takao National Park. Visitors can enjoy a variety of local treats from nearby shops, such as toasted dumplings with walnut miso sauce.
My photos suck compared to pro social media influencers, so don't focus too on the shoots. This is a review of both the Mountain and the temples. The mountain is about 600m high. You can easily burn at least 500 calories tracking on this 2.6km+ trail. If you don't use the non-free cable rail of course. Probably the least busiest and most quietist up here. When you reach the peak, you get to see other mountains and an overview of Tokyo city from the horizon. They even have binoculars you pay 100 yen to use but your phone might zoom in better these days. Food and drinks await half way for refreshments and laventries. And theres also an observatory up ahead too. Almost forgot about the Shinto Buddhist temples that are part of Japan's heritage now. You can trail through it to enjoy the nice healing spiritual energies as you journey to reach the top. Note they do close at 4pm though so you need to go around to reach the top. Don't stay out too late though or else it gets too dark and mosquitoes will bite you (some parts of the trail are not lit). So hike carefully as it can also be slippery at inclinations on wet days.

Recommended to do in the Autumn. Stunning red leaves add to the charm. Lots of spots to admire the Buddhist spirit and craft. Recommend going in the afternoon, it's much quieter. Enjoy both cable and chairlift rides. Only 80mins from central Tokyo. Make time to go to the Onsen at the train station.
Jean K — Google review
Had a great time, the shrines were beautiful, the climb easy (did trail 1). In the summer the cool air of the trees makes it more enjoyable. The cable car was really enjoyable, felt like I was in a Ghibli movie. It’s apparently the steepest cable car in Japan. There are 3 Goshuins to choose from (depends which counter you go to) but the red stamps are the same, only the writing changes.

Easier to reach than anticipated because of the cable car and chairlift! Still lots of stairs but worth the hike for the views :)

A pretty cool little temple in the town at the feet of Mt Takao. Not the best I’ve seen but it’s decent and the sculptures are rather nice too.

Nice hike close to Tokyo about an hour from central, lots of beautiful temples and shrines and feels really good to be walking amongst nature. Family friendly, you can choose to go up and down by cable car or hike up with many different trails with varying difficulty. Going in summer can be very challenging due to the heat and humidity even on the easiest track (track 1), and is actually a bit steep. While the walk itself was nice, the view at the end was underwhelming but maybe that was because of the cloudy weather.

Mount Takao, also known as Takaosan, is a 599-meter-tall peak located within an hour of Shinjuku station in Tokyo. It has been a pilgrimage site for over 1,200 years and offers a mix of traditional Japanese culture and natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, a funicular railway, and the opportunity to visit the Yakuo-in temple. The summit provides stunning views of Tokyo and Mount Fuji on clear days.
I highly recommend coming out to this mountain it offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, peaceful hiking, and cultural exploration. The views from various points are absolutely stunning, and you’ll come across several gorgeous shrines along the trails that are well worth stopping at. There's also a charming little suspension bridge that adds to the overall charm. The mountain has multiple trail options, all falling in the easy to medium range in terms of difficulty. None of them are intense, and many are shaded, making them a great choice even in the summer heat. There are also plenty of rest spots, vending machines scattered along the way, and small eating areas where you can grab a quick snack or cool drink. One of the best features is the choice between taking a cable car or a chairlift. I personally suggest doing one on the way up and the other on the way down, so you get to experience both. I especially loved the chairlift coming down—it gave a breezy, peaceful end to the hike. Just note that if you go early in the morning, the chairlifts might not be operating yet, so starting with the cable car may be your best option. Another important tip: chairlift stop running at 16:30 so plan accordingly if you're heading up later in the day. All in all, this mountain is a 10 out of 10 for me. It’s a perfect morning hike that offers incredible views, peaceful shrines, and multiple ways to tailor your experience depending on your mood and pace. A must-visit.

Beautiful payoff for what amounts to be a 45 minute walk. Paved paths with excellent three color leaves during fall (November 2025). Some crowds but manageable.

Just a short trip from Tokyo, Mount Takao offers a peaceful escape from the city’s noise. Surrounded by calm nature and fresh mountain air, it’s the perfect place to find silence, refresh your tired soul, and reconnect with yourself.
Santosh P — Google review
The perfect plan for those who like nature and enjoy walking….it’s only 1 hour outside Tokyo and a lot of things to see and eat there. We decided to take the trail 1 (the easiest) to go up and took the lift in our way down! But the cable car is also available.

Beautiful payoff for what amounts to be a 45 minute walk. Paved paths with excellent three color leaves during fall (November 2025). Some crowds but manageable. The secret to getting the coveted photo is to ensure that Mount Fuji shows clear or lightly clouded skies before hiking up here. I have some examples of potential photos below.

Solo trip on weekdays. Not so crowded. Use Trail 1 for the easiest route. 980 yen round trip for cable car but do go for the chair lift instead. Date 26/11. Fall leaves almost gone but its still beautiful to see.

Very Beautiful in Fall season! 1 hour from shinjuku After hiking and chairlifts experience, you can go to relax at the onsen right at the train station. Very affordable Wonderful day-trip experience here!

11/21/25 What a relaxing day enjoying autumn’s beauty at Mt. Takao. Was a weekday but still crowded You can take the cable car or chair lift from Kiyotaki Station to save your feet or just go for a hike and enjoy nature.
Nes — Google review
Absolutely take an autumnal break here from Tokyo. Simple to get to by train, less than 90 mins. Either hike or pop up Mt Takao on a funicular or chairlift. Then walk around the environment seeing all the shrines and temple. Reserve lunch with the monks and get your goishon before 4pm. Come down and spend time in the onsen at the train station. Fabulous and so doable in the day.

Sakuragi Shrine is a religious destination surrounded by woodland, featuring several shrines and cherry blossom festivities during springtime. The main shrine boasts a large Torii gate and there are smaller shrines scattered throughout the natural wooded area. Visitors can purchase Omamori and other items, as well as return their old ones. Although English is not commonly spoken, the staff are helpful even with limited Japanese language skills. It's important to research proper etiquette before visiting for the first time.

Miroslav C — Google review
I should preface this review by saying I went in early April, when the Sakura were still in bloom (though I think just past Tokyo’s peak this year). With that out of the way, this is one of my favorite shrines. If you’re into shrines and temples, I feel like it might even be worth the trip from Tokyo, but you probably would have to be quite the shrine otaku. If you happen to be in the area, you absolutely should go. The goshuin are gorgeous and their goshuin book and pouch for the book are so pretty, among the prettiest I’ve seen. Even the parking lot is one of the prettiest parking lots I’ve ever seen.

One of my favourite places in Japan. Beautiful and traditional. Thia temple has sakura blooming randomly throughout the entire year, also its important to mention that here you can buy the traditional warrior omamoris

Quite a large shrine with an impressively large Torii. There are a number of smaller shrines located in a pleasant natural wooded area outside the main shrine. The shrine sells a variety of Omamori and other items and of course you can return your old Omamori too. The staff were very helpful even with basic Japanese language skills I got on fine, English is not really spoken. If you are visiting the shrine for the first time please take the time to and look up the correct etiquette on the Internet. There is a large car park and bicycle park and the shrine has good toilet and vending machine facilities for drinks etc.

It resembles Tokyo's Inokashira Park with its cherry blossom views over a serene lake and even features a petting zoo. The wide sidewalks provide pleasant shaded walks, making it ideal for children to play freely in nature. Additionally, the park has food stalls selling festive treats and is adjacent to museums, cafes, and restaurants.
I went there with family during cherry blossom season 2 years ago. It’s a nice place to chill, take pictures, enjoy some outdoor activities. A spacious place. A lot of cherry trees blooming in spring.

Inariyama park was once part of Johnson military base before the land was given back to Japan. Its not as large as you would expect for a national park, but it is a nice place for a walk or picnic. It is particularly nice during cherry blossom season and they have a festival on during that time. They have a barbecue in the park and food vans during this period. Parking is free.

The park itself is ok, but do yourself a favor and eat in advance, or bring something if you plan to eat. The reasturant inside the museum serves ¥200 supermarket frozen jambalaya at ¥700 a plate. I will say the reasturant is immaculate, and the staff are courteous.

Nice place for the kids, but could use a lot of refurbishment...especially the animal areas. Really run-down, weedy in some places. Admission is very reasonable, and the setting is nice. Nearest station would be Saiyama-shi, on the Seibu Shinjuku Line...from there, you should take a bus. Didn't see any place to eat, unless you bring a lunch. Parking available, if you come by car, bike, etc.

Lovely place for a date with picnic. I got lucky and I saw a rainbow over the water spay in the lake. Weather was fabulous!

Nice Sakura viewing and nano hana (yellow canola) festival, you can find interesting yatai food . Very interesting. Though I cannot see the full Sakura end Mar, there are 3 cherry trees in full bloom. It’s so beautiful . If you are around this area In next few days - before 15 apr , do try to visit this park, really nice 👍

Thie Sakura trees on this side of gongendo tsutsumi had more trees than the east side. And they were still in very good condition. Unlike the other side trees has already 50 percent of leaves coming out. This side was only about 30 percent-ish. And some tree tops still looked like in full bloom very pretty. The festival would start on 3/26/2025 until April. Some booths were already in preparation progress. But the buds of yoshino Sakura trees seemed not really budding yet. But if the temperature kept rising they might get ready pretty soon.

Found this place by chance from an ad while I was in Tokyo in April. It turns out to be my most precious memory during my trip. It's easy to get there from Oshiage (skytree) Station. About and 1.5 (?) ride. I went on a week day and it was a few days before their cherry blossom festival ends. So not much people. Although there was not much cherry blossom left, the canola blossom field are just so beautiful! If there was sakura, you'll get that stunning pink and yellow flower combination. (Come around end or middle of march) *Check their website for flower conditions. I recommend buy some food and have a nice picnic there! But there is a local market near by. Please clean after yourself & keep the park clean. Overall, I love it and will go back when I have a chance to.

Wonderful place to visit for hanami, because it has the combination of yellow flowers, white somei yoshino flowers and blue sky. The rapeseed flowers are fragrant. (Translated by Google) This facility tends to be crowded, so It's a blessing that even just the toilets are spread out. Best of all, it minimizes travel within the parking lot, reducing the likelihood of accidents involving people and cars. When people get off the train, their movements become disorganized, and the number of people is definitely greater than the number of vehicles. However, I believe that those who planned it had a difficult time encountering resistance, such as increased construction costs and the unpredictability of people's movements. thank you. 3.5 stars They had many instagrammable photo areas and for some reason another photo theme was Winnie the Pooh and they had many areas set up for photos. As with all premium outlets in Japan it's nothing compared to prices of outlets in North America. It's a lot smaller than the outlet in Gotemba or Karuizawa... But it's much more accessible because it's not too big and it's far less crowded which makes it all more pleasant. I think outlet malls are a little bit cheaper this year maybe due to Corona and sluggish moving inventory. Most shops had additional 20 to 30% on top of the already reduced prices. On a hot summer day it's really not recommended because there's not much refuge from the humidity and heat. It's a very dog friendly place and many owners had brought their pets. The cosmetics shop was really crowded! Lots of discounted Clinique items. MAC eyeshadows that go for over 3000yen retail outside were selling for about 1000yen. A must stop for cosmetics-lovers.

Went there yesterday with my 13 year old daughter. Great place. Had a lot of fun....

We went there in January, still quite warm and very few other customers. Which is lucky since the heights and sometimes scary passages can make kids (and grownups) take it slow. The safety instructions are quite throrough and well conducted. The instructors are well trained, concerned and polite. Walking with the zipline is quite a bit of excercise but the sliding is the reward, although you have to land carefully. The parking can be a bit tricky as there are several parking lots, and the entrance can be very hard to find. And it is slighly expensive, but on the whole worth it.

Established during the early Heian Period by priest Jikaku Daishi, this shrine is home to 42 deities and features a sacred rock that adds to its spiritual allure.
The shrine is aesthetically beautiful and the mountain view is great. On the foot step of the mountain, you'll see a different shops sellings mochi and candies, others may find some shop selling kitsune or tengu mask. Their is also a view deck seeing the white top of Mt. Fuji; when the weather is clear and and not cloudy, you can also see some elderly folks doind some walks and they're great to talk with.

Hilltop shrine with a sacred rock. This very old shrine was established in the early Heian Period (794 to 1185) by priest Jikaku Daishi. It is the home of 42 gods and goddesses. You can drive to the top of the shrine where a free parking lot is located and a short walk to the shrine OR you can enjoy a leisurely long hike up using the stairs. The stairs are lined with hydrangeas which were not in bloom yet as of May 27th. The shrine is popular in the region with local people who come to pray for the health of their family members.

Historical landmark
Shinkyō Bridge, a striking black-and-red bridge surrounded by dense forests known for their vibrant fall foliage, is widely regarded as one of Japan's top three bridges. It sits in a picturesque location with thick forests flanking the Daiya River below. Serving as an entrance to Nikko's shrines and temples, the bridge has a rich history dating back to feudal times when only the Shogun was permitted to cross it.
Such a cute bridge in a truly beautiful area! This entire region was a joy to explore on foot. Every discovered nook and cranny brought a new delight to the senses. Each turn more enjoyable than the last. Perfect place to sit and enjoy a picnic or simply relax and listen to the river tell you stories of the past. Equally breathtaking day or night 🥰
Ben S — Google review
Very pretty but I have to say, I was a bit annoyed there was a fee to cross the actual bridge. I understand the need to maintain a historical site and maybe I am not understanding the cultural background of the bridge. However you have a normal bridge to cross next to it and it allows you a very nice view. Would still recommend.
Diane ( — Google review

We just want to see the bridge itself because it is one of the recommended places here in Nikko. If you want to cross the bridge, there's a fee. We weren't able to try it since we still need to go to Toshogu Shrine. Maybe we will try again next time!!
Mhi_chanphjp — Google review
Beautiful red bridge with the stunning fall colours as the backdrop and running river foreground made it a popular tourist spot. Consider visiting it early in the morning or after 3.30pm. Less tourists and cleaner photo. Crossing the bridge did incur a cost.
Martlet — Google review
PROS ➕ Great views CONS ➖ None Date visited: 05/05/2024 This bridge is located near the main entrance to Nikkō Tōshogū. Strangely enough, I only saw a couple of tourists actually visiting the bridge, while there were literally flocks of people walking up the street toward the Tōshogū temple complex. There was a small fee to enter; I kept the ticket as a souvenir, as it had some interesting pictures and prints. It was only a short walk from the ticket booth to the bridge. Standing on the bridge, I could see a wide view of the first steps leading to Tōshogū temple complex. The creek was visible on both sides, with high stone cliffs blocking part of the view. I love the sound of running water crashing into the rocks below and the rustling of leaves in the wind. The bridge itself was ancient but very well maintained. I could tell a lot of effort had been put into keeping the bridge not just functional but gleaming. All in all, I'm glad I was able to enjoy this moment during the busiest holiday of the year.

Rin’nōji Houmotsuden treasure house

Rin’nōji Hōmotsuden treasure house is a Buddhist temple complex that dates back to 766 CE and features a museum and classical Edo-era landscape garden. It's part of the Nikko World Heritage Full-Day Tour, where visitors can explore the majestic Tamozawa Imperial Villa, see the three golden Buddhas at Rinnoji Temple, and visit Kirifuri Falls. The temple is also known for its Gohanshiki ceremony.
Nikkosan Rinnoji’s Homotsuden is next to the Sanbutsudo. This building houses approximately 30,000 temple treasures that represent Nikkozan’s more than 1,200-year history and the building contains many National Treasures, important cultural properties, and important works of art. In addition to the approximately 50 pieces that are always on display, visitors can also see paintings related to the Tokugawa family

The treasure hall displays portraits of shoguns from the first through subsequent generations, along with period artifacts that provide historical context. However, as a foreigner, I found the Japanese garden (Shoyo-en) behind the treasure hall far more captivating and beautiful than the indoor exhibits themselves. If you already bought the 3-attraction combo ticket from Rinnoji, it’s worth a quick stop, but I wouldn’t recommend purchasing a separate ticket just for this. The garden is lovely and peaceful, but the treasure hall itself doesn’t offer enough compelling content to justify a standalone visit unless you’re particularly interested in Tokugawa history and artifacts.

The treasure house is located opposite the main hall of the Rinnoji Temple. You need to pay an entrance fee. We decided to buy combined tickets, which include the main hall, the treasure house&garden, and the Taiyuin Mausoleum. It is a bit cheaper than buying them separately. Photography is not allowed inside the house. There are several antique artworks related to Buddhism and the Tokugawa era displayed inside. The portraits of all the shoguns in the Tokugawa family are exhibited there. It is nice to sit quietly and see those portraits, imagining their feelings and responsibilities as shoguns in their time. Don't miss the garden located behind the house. The garden is small but beautiful, with a pleasant landscape, good design, and it's not too crowded. It must be a wonderful place during autumn when color of leaves change..

One of the best Japanese gardens in the area. Well worth a visit.

Don't waste your money on a ticket if you are not coming in a group. You are barred from seeing the gods in the front of the temple, the most grand and presumably most important display in the temple. Do you pay less for an individual ticket? Nope. Then why discriminate like this.

I didn't get to enter, no time. Very well maintained. The colors really stand out. If you're going to visit the Nikko shrine compound area, better go early. The place is always packed with both locals and tourists. There's a tree outside Rennoji that they say has never bloomed in 400 (or was it 200) years. Tickets for the Toshogu shrine and museum complex does not cover the museum at the foot of the Rennoji house. If we had time, it would've been nice to stay for an hour or so, but the train and shinkansen ride back to Tokyo takes a while. The World Heritage Bus route goes around the entire Grand Shrine complex, down to the Nikko train station.

There is a petit japanese garden just in front and its beatiful. The surroundings are also really enjoyable but in comparison the insides of this temple are not as interesting visually or as an expirience. When you go to the other temples first they offer you the ticket of this particular temple as a set and is not expensive, but except that you have some knollege about budism it probably won't be as interesting.

The temple is located at the base of Mt. Nantai and the natural surroundings add to the serene atmosphere of the place. The main hall of the temple houses a large wooden statue of the Yakushi Nyorai, which is the temple's main object of worship. The temple also features several other buildings such as the Sanbutsudo Hall and the Futarasan Shrine, which are both beautiful and worth visiting. The architecture of the buildings is amazing and the intricate carvings and paintings on the walls and ceilings are truly breathtaking.

By far the nicest temple I’ve seen. Gorgeous! Very beautiful and inspiring. Very well kept and colourful. I love the fact that there are many buildings and temples all joint together. It gives the place a sense of being a city of some sort. Loved it! Highly recommended!!

Nikko Toshogu is a magnificent 17th-century shrine complex in Nikko, Japan, dedicated to the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. The temple's opulent and colorful buildings are adorned with intricate carvings, creating a palace-like courtyard that feels like another world. A must-see is the renowned Yomeimon Gate, celebrated as one of Japan's most beautiful gates.
It’s worth the price. This temple is magnificent. The sculptures, the ornaments, and decorations are amazing. The trees are old (+400 years), one feels the energy of the place. We purchased a discount ticket as we came after 4pm (1 hour before closing), but this prevented us to visit every part of it (the way to the top was already closed). I would recommend to take your time to visit this temple. You will also learn a lot about Japan history.

We visited Nikkō Tōshō-gū as part of a day tour from Tokyo, which was perfect since it’s a bit far and we wanted to avoid the hassle of trains and buses. The tour also included other highlights like the lake and the waterfall, making it a full and easy day. The temple itself is truly impressive , the gold decorations are stunning, and the architecture is breathtaking. The surrounding gardens and grounds are massive and beautifully maintained, perfect for exploring and taking photos. Overall, a must-visit if you’re in Nikkō. Going with a tour made the day stress-free and allowed us to enjoy the temple without rushing.

Nikkō Tōshō-gū is definitely worth a visit if you’re spending time in Nikkō, especially if you’re interested in history and traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The shrine complex is well-maintained, and the buildings feature detailed woodwork and decorative elements that are interesting to see up close. The famous carvings, like the “Three Wise Monkeys,” are smaller than I expected but still nice to check out as part of the overall walk through the grounds. The atmosphere is generally calm, although it does get crowded during late mornings and early afternoons. The forest surroundings add a pleasant touch, and the shaded paths make the walk comfortable even on warmer days. There are several steps and some uneven areas, so wearing good shoes is helpful. The entrance fee for adults is ¥1,600, which feels a bit on the expensive side compared to many other shrines, but considering the amount of restoration and upkeep needed for a site of this age, it’s understandable. Expect to spend about one to two hours exploring at a relaxed pace. One thing to note is that some areas can feel a bit touristy, especially during peak season, but overall it’s still a nice cultural stop. If you go early in the morning, you’ll have a quieter experience and more time to look at the details without waiting behind groups. Overall, Nikkō Tōshō-gū is a solid cultural attraction with a good mix of history, nature, and craftsmanship. Not mind-blowing, but definitely a worthwhile stop in Nikkō.

Toshogu Shrine in Nikko is an incredibly calming and soothing place. The atmosphere feels peaceful from the moment you enter, and it’s easy to sit here for hours just relaxing and taking in the surroundings. The shrine grounds are quite large, giving you plenty of space to wander, explore, or simply enjoy the quiet beauty of the area. There is an entrance ticket, but once you step inside, you really feel the value of the visit. The detailed craftsmanship, historic charm, and serene environment make it a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and meaningful spot to spend time.

Ornate, intricate temple complex. Order tickets at the train station in Nikko as lines are very long even in the off season. Temples are colorful and sizable! We spent about an hour and felt we had time to take it all in. Lot and lots of stairs to get to the upper mist temple area but plenty to see at the lower level.

This is a beautiful temple with many beautiful details and buildings. It has a rich history and is one of the most famous of its kind. However, it is terribly crowded and loud, and you have to stand in line to see most things - even mid November when we visited. Having lived in Japan we can only conclude that there are many just as beautiful temples and shrines that are far less crowded, for instance in northern Honshu or Kyushu. Still this is worth visiting.

A shrine that worships Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo shogunate, as a god. World Heritage Site that represents Japan. Worth visiting once. The carvings and dazzling gold leaf decorations on the Yomeimon Gate were captivating. The iconic sculptures of the "Three Wise Monkeys" represented the proverb "see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil" were located at the entrance area. The "Sleeping Cat" was the famous wooden carving by Hidari Jingoro that appears to be sleeping peacefully, located above the entrance to Ieyasu's tomb.

Beautiful in the autumn. The ticket situation was a joke though. Six ticket vending machines and only three working, and not many languages to choose from so some people had to spend minutes trying to work it out. Not what I expected. The inside is also under construction/refurbishing, so it’ll be several years before we can see it without scaffolding.
