Gadsar Lake, also known as Yemsar Lake, is a stunning high-altitude lake located in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir, approximately 28 km from Sonamarg. Situated at an elevation of 3600 m above sea level, it offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and is surrounded by alpine wildflowers. The lake is seasonal and forms when the snow melts, making the best time to visit between June and September.
Gadsar Lake is a true reward for those who make the challenging trek. It's about 37 km from the Shitkadi base camp and 14 km from Vishansar camping site. The climb up to Gadsar Pass, which stands at an impressive 4,200 meters above sea level, is tough both going up and down. But once you've conquered the pass, the trail to Gadsar Lake is a breeze—flat, easy, and surrounded by a stunning landscape of flowers and scenic beauty. After clearing Gadsar Pass, you'll come across a few smaller lakes like Yamsar and Arsar on your way. These serene, lesser-known lakes add to the charm of the journey, offering peaceful spots to pause and take in the views.Gadsar Lake itself is breathtaking, with a massive glacier towering above it and fragments of ice floating on its surface. There are many myths surrounding Gadsar Lake, with some saying it's a bit terrifying, but I found it to be a place of incredible beauty and serenity.Although you camp quite a distance from Gadsar, it's worth dedicating at least two to three hours to fully take in the views. The experience is nothing short of magical, and the peaceful atmosphere will stay with you long after you leave.
Bilal S — Google review
The Gadsar Lake is also called Yemsar lake. It is also an alpine high altitude lake. It’s part of the Great lakes trek of Kashmir. Gadsar in Kashmiri means the lake of fishes, a natural habitat of trout and other types of fishes. The lake freezes during winter season and will mostly be covered by snow. This melts during the summer season and we can find floating icebergs during June and July. Gadsar lake is surrounded by alpine meadows full of various kinds of wild alpine flowers, like that in valley of flowers, Uttarakhand. Therefore the lake is also known as the valley of flowers. The lake is mainly fed by melting of glaciers in the nearby mountains. There are a number of streams near Gadsar lake which joins together when the glaciers melt completely and flow towards the Kishanganga lake. There is a myth revolving The Gadsar Lake. It is called Yemsar lake or the lake of Yama, The God of Death. Gujjars/nomadic ethnic groups of Kashmir (shepherds who bring their flocks of sheep and herd of horses to these greeny meadows during summer season) who graze their flocks in and around the area of Gadsar lake believe that there is a Lake Monster, a freshwater Octopus in the lake which drags their flocks by its tentacles into the water. During the KGL trek, we had lunch by one of the streams before the Gadsar lake where fishes could be spotted.
Aleena P — Google review
Just like every other lake the water is very clear. You can go down to the lake. Apart from the normal route which goes from on side of the lake, you can cross the river and go the left from the main route at the start of the lake to see you he glacier more closely. The lake is filled by glacier ice water as well as an incoming stream from previous glaciers which are visible from gadsar pass. The outlet of this lake goes till your next camp site.

💝The Gadsar Lake is a high altitude oligotrophic Lake which resides at an elevation of 3,600m in Soanmarg of Ganderbal in Kashmir Valley. 💝It contains a little rare aquatic life forms and almost no vegetation due to which it possesses dark green to greenish bluish crystal waters throughout the year. 💝This Lake is mainly filled up by melting of glaciers present on the mountains in its backdrop. It outflows towards the North West through a stream and joins Neelum river at Tulail Valley in Gurez Valley of Kashmir Valley. 💝Gadsar in Kashmiri means the Lake of Fishes as it acts as a natural habitat of trout and other distinct types of fishes among which is the rare Brown Trout. 💝Gadsar Lake is enclosed by Alpine Meadows filled with numerous varities of Vibrantly coloured distinctive wild Alpine Flowers and vegetation due to which it is also known as The Valley of Flowers. 💝An unresolved myth/legend is closely linked with the Gadsar Lake. Shepherds grazing their flocks of sheeps in the outskirts of Gadsar Lake during summers strongly believe that a Lake Monster that is a freshwater Octopus resides in the Lake which drags the living creatures from shores by its tentacles into the water. This myth has culminated in the development of an uncertainty in the minds of many visitors especially a strong threat or fear which prevents them from going near to its shores. Besides this, the Fishes are being caught outside the Lake in a stream from which it flows out. 💝This myth allots a brand new name/title to Gadsar Lake, first Yemsar which means the Lake of Yama(Yamaraja : A Deity of Death)and second The Lake of Death.

- Visited in Aug, 2023 as a part of my KGL trek, during 12-19 Aug. Gadsar Lake is the 3rd alpine lake you will say hi during the trek from Vishansar to Gadsar. This place is a total jackpot for nature lovers. After getting down from the top hill, the trek was downhill to this shiny lake surrounded by flowers, meadows and hills is like a scene from a movie. Truly amazing views and peaceful place. I’m really happy I went there!

Absolutely stunning lake with a glacier backdrop and meadows in the foreground. The pristine lake with flowers around it makes a magnificent view.

Even thousand words can't justify the beauty of this tiny precious lake. After 4 days of hiking in the region, we got mesmerized and touched deeply by this natural wonder. Gadsar lake welcomes you with lush sea green colour with plenty of flowers in the vicinity. All of it is worth it after 4000m pass. Planning to visit again. 👍 -August 2017

Undoubtedly the real, "Heaven on earth" feeling after visiting Kashmir. No words to describe the lake. Only my pathetic attempts to capture the beauty in camera. It's a shame we couldn't camp here, but understandable given the stupidity of people littering all around the trails. If I'd ever go back to Ganderbaal, it would be here.

Nestled high in the majestic Himalayas, Satsar Lake is a stunning cluster of seven interconnected alpine lakes that beckons adventurers and nature lovers alike. Located at an impressive altitude of around 3,650 meters in Jammu and Kashmir, this enchanting destination is formed by the confluence of seven rivers. During summer, vibrant flower-filled meadows line its shores, creating a picturesque backdrop for camping enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in the serene beauty of nature.
Satsar is an absolute marvel, located just 9 km from the Gadsar camping site. This cluster of seven closely situated lakes is a sight to behold. While three of the lakes are on the way to Gangabal, the others are nestled high up in the mountains, often missed by most trekkers. If you're staying here, which most do, make sure to explore the lakes up in the mountains—it's worth every step. One thing to note is that if you visit late in August, the lakes might have shrunk since they aren't fed by large glaciers. However, the experience is still breathtaking. The pass you cross to reach Satsar is mind-blowing, with both sides adorned with vibrant yellow flowers. It's an unforgettable sight that adds to the magic of the place.Satsar is truly a hidden gem, and if you love unspoiled natural beauty, this place should definitely be on your list!

- Visited in Aug, KGL Treks 2023. It was a relatively easier trek out of KGL treks from Gadsar to Satsar. We arrived at Satsar campsite early in the afternoon. This lake is like a hidden oasis collecting of small lakes all in one place, each with its own charm. The views are spectacular and peaceful. I enjoyed spending my time alone surrounded by the nature so much! 🩵

The Kashmir Great Lakes (KGL) trek demands long walks on every trekking day, covering a total trekking distance of 75 KM in 6 days, which averages out to over 12 KM a day. In comparison to other popular treks, such as Kedarkantha and Hampta Pass , the Kashmir Great Lakes trek is three times longer. As far the trek time, it usually takes  8 hours to cover 11 kms from  Sonamarg to Nichnai Pass camp, from this point upto it takes another 7 hours next day to cover 12 kilometer upto Kishansar campsite. From this point upto Gadsar campsite it takes 10 hours to cover a distance of 14 kilometers. From Gadsar to Satsar campsite, it takes  six hours to  cover a distance of 11 kilometers, whereas from this point it takes another six hours to reach Gangbal lake covering a distance of nine kilometres.
Ishfaq T — Google review
You have to visit a lot of lakes if you are in Kashmir. And Sonamarg itself is home to many lakes! One of such beautiful lakes is Satsar lake. You will see that this lake is at 3,610 m above sea level. So, the name translates to seven lakes and there it is, the conflux which holds seven clustered alpine lakes that are all connected to each other. They are connected in a way that they cascade each other.

Gangabal Lake, also known as Harmukh Ganga, is a high-altitude lake located on the slopes of Harmukh Mountain in North Srinagar. It is home to various species of freshwater fish, including brown trout and rainbow trout. The lake offers a serene and offbeat experience for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers, with opportunities for fishing (permit required), trekking, horse riding, and photography.
The Gangabal Lake also called Haramukh ganga, is a lake situated at the foothills of Mount Haramukh (the second highest mountain peak in the vicinity of Kashmir valley) in Ganderbal district, north of Srinagar, in Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is an alpine high altitude oligotrophic lake, home to many species of fish, including the brown trout. This lake is considered sacred in Hinduism, and as one of the home of Lord Shiva. Kashmiri Hindus perform annual pilgrimage called Harmukh-Gangabal Yatra. The lake has a maximum length of two and a half kilometers and maximum width of one kilometre. It is fed by precipitation, glaciers and springs. The lake water outflows to a nearby Nundkol Lake and then via Wangath Nallah to Sind River. Gangabal has been mentioned in Hindu texts like Nilamata Purana as well as Rajatarangini. Authors like Walter Roper Lawrence and Francis Younghusband also mentioned Gangabal lake and it's association with Hindu rites. Kashmiri Hindus were massacred in the year 1518 by Islamic invader Mir Shams-ud-Din Araqi on the day of Ashura. In 1519 around 10,000 Kashmiri Hindus were killed during their pilgrimage to Gangabal as they had gone to immerse the ashes of Kashmiri Hindus who were killed by Mir Shams-ud-Din Araqi on the day of Ashura. After the gap of 200 years, APMCC/HGGT took the initiative and restarted Harmukh-Gangabal Yatra in 2009.

Gangbal refers to Gangabal Lake, a high-altitude alpine lake and a significant Hindu pilgrimage site located at the foothills of Mount Haramukh in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is a popular destination known for its stunning natural beauty and trekking opportunities. Key Aspects of Gangbal Lake Location and Geography: Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,570 meters (11,710 ft), the lake is about 45 km by road from Srinagar to Naranag, followed by a trek. It is fed by glaciers, precipitation, and springs, and its water outflows into the nearby Nundkol Lake and then into the Sind River. Religious Significance: Gangabal Lake is highly sacred to Kashmiri Hindus, who consider it as holy as the Ganges River and refer to it as the "Haridwar of Kashmir" or Haramukh Ganga. They traditionally immerse the ashes of their deceased ancestors in its waters to perform ancestral rites. An annual pilgrimage, the Harmukh-Gangabal Yatra, is also held here. Trekking and Tourism: The area is a paradise for trekkers and nature lovers. The most common route is a moderate-to-difficult trek from Naranag (about 13-15 km upslope), which can be done on foot or horseback. Other longer treks are available from Sonamarg and Bandipore. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, lush green meadows, and dense pine forests.

It is one of the best places I have hiked and visited. You hike all the way 20km out of which 6km are up way hiking on a mountain range and then 14km through the woods of the consecutive mountain ranges to reach a destination you will generally have your camp base. Then you go further 4.25km or so to reach two of the most exotic, serene and pure lakes in the Kashmir valley. This place is a hidden place in Kashmir and guide person or tour tour package dealer won't tell you about it cause you will have to spare at least 2 days here but believe me it is one of the places worth visiting once.

Chashme Shahi Garden, also known as "the royal spring" in Urdu, is a picturesque Mughal garden located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. Nestled amidst the stunning Zabarwan Mountain range, this three-terraced garden showcases Persian-influenced architecture and features natural spring water flowing through its landscaped terraces.
We had a very enjoyable experience at the garden, from what we could see they were generally well maintained. Although it was cloudy on the day so the views were not as good as they would normally be,it still looked beautiful in the misty weather. It being a Monday there were only a few visitors so it felt peaceful and serene.

Chashme Shahi is one of the beautiful Mughal gardens in Srinagar, famous for its natural spring. The fresh water here tastes amazing! 💧 Surrounded by greenery and Mughal-style design, it’s a peaceful and refreshing place to visit. Not too big but very charming, perfect for a short stop to enjoy nature and the cool spring water. A nice spot that adds to the charm of Srinagar’s gardens
Irfan A — Google review
The smallest of the three Mughal gardens of Srinagar, the Chasme Shahi is nestled in the Northern slopes of the Zabarwan range, up from the right bank of the Dal. The garden was constructed around an ancient spring with supposed medicinal properties, by Shah Jahan for his eldest son Dara Shikoh. The garden is laid in the 'chahar bagh' layout, beautifully terraced across the hills. The spring housed within a beautiful Mughal pavilion is the center piece, from where channels symmetrically divide the garden into parts. Pathways on either side of the channel lead one from the entrance gateway up to the pavilion. Trees of various species abound, with flowering plants arranged in beds. Tickets can be bought from near the entrance. Parking space outside the garden, is limited. *Tips: There are 3-4 stores near the entrance of the garden, selling local souvenirs, collectibles, etc. Although they are fixed price shops, their prices are very reasonable and fair (compared to similar shops lining the Dal Boulevard).
Rajsekhar C — Google review
• Natural spring water flows directly from the mountain into the garden — this is the origin of its name (“Royal Spring”). People drink from this spring — locals believe the water is pure and medicinal. • Terraced Mughal design — 3 levels of garden going up the hillside. As you climb each terrace, the view gets better. • Best view of Dal Lake from the upper terrace — excellent for photography. • Peaceful atmosphere compared to other Mughal gardens. Chashme Shahi doesn’t feel chaotic — it feels like a quiet royal retreat. Best Time to Visit • Morning: 9am – 11am Fresh light, fresh water, minimal crowd. • Sunset Hour: for photography (mountains + lake glow nicely)
Amrit D — Google review
Chasme shahi garden is a charming mughal garden. It is relatively small garden which one can cover within one hour. It is located on foothills of Zabarwan mountains & offers unobstructed views of mountains. It hosts the famous chinar trees. Few benches are provided to rest and admire the view of mountains. It has flower gardens which is quite a sight in April to June. Even in off season few flowers are present. A peaceful garden & good for photoshoot. In all gardens, you can take photo with kashmiri traditional dress & price is fixed as per JK tourism department. Many people will come to ask you to shoot reels. If you are not interested, it is really disturbing as they will ask all over the time.
Amuthan M — Google review
Chashme meaning spring. There’s a natural spring / water which flows out of the ground atop which a garden is made. Quite a lot of such springs in Srinagar. Worth the visit. well maintained garden surround it. Relatively smaller in size. Ample car parking in front. Kashmir has such natural beauty.
Dinesh S — Google review
Amazing place for photography! The terraced gardens, clear spring water, and backdrop of the hills make every corner scenic. Even though the garden is small, every step feels picture-perfect. The spring water is an added bonus — super refreshing!

Shalimar Garden Shalimar Bagh is a Mughal garden in Srinagar, linked through a channel to the northeast of Dal Lake, on its right bank located on the outskirts of Srinagar city in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Its other names are Shalimar Garden, Shalimar Bagh, Farah Baksh and Faiz Baksh, and the other famous shore line garden in the vicinity is Nishat Bagh. The Bagh was built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Noor Jahan, in 1619. The Bagh is considered the high point of Mughal horticulture. It is now a public park. This time it’s also called as crown of Srinagar. History Emperor Jahangir built his celebrated Shalimar Bagh, his dream project to please his queen. He enlarged the ancient garden in 1619 into a royal garden and called it ‘Farah Baksh’ (‘the delightful’). He built it for his wife Nur Jahan (‘light of the world’). In 1630, under Emperor Shah Jahan’s orders, Zafar Khan the governor of Kashmir extended it. He named it ‘Faiz Baksh’ (‘the bountiful’). It then became a pleasure place for the Pathan and Sikh governors who followed Zafar Khan. During the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh the marble pavilion was the guest house for European visitors. Electrification of the premises was done during Maharaja Hari Singh’s rule. Thus, over the years, the garden was extended and improved by many rulers and called by different names, but the most popular name ‘Shalimar Bagh’ continues to this day. During the Mughal period in particular, Emperor Jahangir and his wife Nur Jahan were so enamoured of Kashmir that during summer they moved to Srinagar with their full court entourage from Delhi at least 13 times. Shalimar Bagh was their imperial summer residence and the Royal Court. They crossed the arduous snowy passes of the Pir Panjal mountain range on elephants to reach Srinagar Layout The layout of the garden is an adaptation of another Islamic garden layout known as the Persian gardens. This garden built on a flat land on a square plan with four radiating arms from a central location as the water source. It needed to be modified to suit the hilly terrain and availability of a well, which could be diverted from a higher elevation to the planned gardens. Modifications involved the main channel running through the garden axially from top to the lowest point. This central channel, known as the Shah Nahar, is the main axis of the garden. It runs through three terraces. This layout left out the radial arms and the shape became rectangular, instead of a square plan of the Chahar Bagh. The garden, as finally laid out, covers an area of 12.4 hectares (31 acres) built with a size of 587 metres (1,926 ft) length on the main axis channel and with a total width of 251 metres (823 ft). The garden has three terraces fitted with fountains and with chinar (sycamore) tree-lined vistas. The Shahnahar is the main feeder channel to all the terraces. Each one of the three terraces has a specific role. The garden was linked to the open Dal Lake water through a canal of about 1 mile (1.6 km) length and 12 yards (11 m) in width that ran through swampy quagmire. Willow groves and rice terraces fringed the lake edge. Broad green paths bordered the lake with rows of chinar trees. The garden was laid in trellised walkways lined by avenues of aspen trees planted at 2 feet (0.61 m) interval. Visit early morning

The Tulip Garden Srinagar, also known as the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, is a vast expanse of colorful blooms featuring 68 varieties of tulips and other flowers. Situated at the foothills of Zabarwan Mountain in Sirajbagh, Chashmashahi, this garden sprawls over 29.6 acres and is recognized as Asia's largest tulip garden.
Tulip Garden opens up from late March and extends upto late April until the Tulips wave in blooms. With an entry fee of Rs 75/person, this heavenly garden, is a soothing treat to the eyes. It will take about 2-3 hrs for a full tour of the garden. There are fountains and blossoms everywhere, reverberating a happy vibe over the valley. There is a market outside the garden, which I found very pocket friendly and I took all the gift items from there itself. There is a botanical garden nearby this place.

Tulip Garden is located adjacent the Botanical Garden. The garden is planned in line with the Mughal gardens in terms of the layout of pathways with water channels, cascades and fountains. The garden opens in March when the Tulips bloom - a mesmerizing spectacle of nature to behold - in all possible colours and hues. Not only tulips, there are flowering plants of various other species as well. Beautifully manicured lawns and decorated flower beds arranged in various shapes abound. Located at foothills of the Zabarwan range, the garden is terraced in two or three levels - not as steep as the Chasme Shahi. Entry fee is Rs.75/person. Parking is about half a kilometre away... common for both the Tulip and the Botanical gardens.

Tulip Garden in Srinagar is truly a visual masterpiece and one of the most breathtaking attractions in Kashmir. Spread across the foothills of the Zabarwan Range overlooking the serene Dal Lake, this garden feels like walking into a living painting. I visited during the annual Tulip Festival, and it was nothing short of magical. Rows upon rows of tulips in every imaginable color—crimson red, sunshine yellow, lavender, pink, and even rare black tulips—stretch as far as the eye can see. The garden is immaculately maintained and beautifully laid out in terraces, each offering a unique palette of blooms. The backdrop of snow-capped mountains and the cool spring breeze make the experience even more surreal. You can easily spend hours wandering the paths, taking photos, and soaking in the natural beauty. Every corner looks like it was designed for a postcard! There are plenty of resting spots, refreshment stalls, and local handicraft counters around. The place is quite family-friendly, with clean walkways and seating areas. However, it’s best to wear comfortable shoes since the garden covers a large area and involves a fair bit of walking. The best time to visit is between late March and mid-April, when the tulips are in full bloom. The timing can vary slightly each year depending on the weather, so checking the festival dates in advance is a good idea. Early morning visits are particularly rewarding—the light is perfect for photography, and the crowds are thinner. The entry fee is reasonable, and parking facilities are adequate. The security and staff are courteous and helpful, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone. The view of Dal Lake and the distant Pir Panjal range from the upper terraces is simply unforgettable. Overall, the Tulip Garden is not just a tourist attraction—it’s an experience that captures the essence of Kashmir’s springtime charm. Whether you’re a nature lover, a photographer, or just someone looking for peace and color, this place will leave you mesmerized. Truly deserving of its title as Asia’s largest tulip garden and one of the crown jewels of Kashmir tourism. 🌷

Strolling through the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden feels like walking into a rainbow — millions of tulips in reds, pinks, purples, yellows and whites stretch across terraced slopes, with the majestic Zabarwan hills and serene Dal Lake as the backdrop. The hues, fragrance and gentle breeze together make it one of the most magical floral experiences. ✨ Why I loved it: • Asia’s largest tulip garden — absolutely massive and full of vivid colors. • Diverse flowers beyond tulips — daffodils, hyacinths and more, adding extra charm. • Picture-perfect for sunrise or sunset strolls — the golden light + blooms = pure magic. • Great for nature lovers, couples, families and photographers alike. 🙏 Tip: Visit during peak bloom (typically late March to mid April) — that’s when the garden truly blossoms into a kaleidoscope of colors. #TulipGarden #SrinagarDiaries #SpringInKashmir #NatureLovers #TravelGram #IncredibleIndia

Dal Lake, known as the "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir," is an urban lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Surrounded by the majestic Pir Panjal mountains and lush Mughal gardens, the lake is a hub of vibrant local life and a top destination for tourist Key features: Shikara rides: A ride in one of the lake's iconic gondola-like wooden taxi boats is one of the most popular activities. Shikaras ferry people to houseboats and landmarks and serve as floating shops selling flowers, handicrafts, and vegetables. Houseboats: Staying on a traditional houseboat is a unique and sought-after experience. These elaborately carved wooden boats, many with luxurious amenities, originated during the British Raj, when foreigners were forbidden from owning land in Kashmir. Floating gardens and markets: Locally known as "Rad" in Kashmiri, floating gardens are crafted from interwoven vegetation and earth, and are used to grow crops like lotus flowers, melons, and vegetables. Early in the morning, vendors assemble in their shikaras for a floating market to sell their fresh produce. Char Chinar Island: This small, picturesque island on the lake is a famous landmark, named for the four Chinar trees planted at its corners. Mughal Gardens: Several historic Mughal-era gardens, including Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, line the eastern side of the lake. They offer stunning landscapes with terraced lawns, fountains, and flowerbeds.

Stayed one night on a houseboat in Srinagar and absolutely loved it. Waking up to the calm of Dal Lake with shikaras gliding past was unforgettable. Our hosts were warm and attentive, and the people around the lake were wonderful. The floating vendors—fresh vegetables, flowers, antiques—were a real highlight and never pushy. Meena Bazaar felt genuinely authentic, with quality items at fair prices. Everything felt safe, clean, and beautifully looked after. If you’re considering a houseboat stay, go for it—one night wasn’t enough. Highly recommended!

One of the most serene places to be in. We had gone in Nov, and so the trees were in full "bloom".. Worth spending some time on the island. This is one of the 2 islands in Dal Lake. Also called Rop lank or silver Island. One has a beautiful view of the Dal lake from here. This Island originally had 4 Chinar trees from where it derives it name. One of the Chinar trees had fallen and 3 remained. A new Chinar tree had been planted in the recent years hence is smaller than the rest.

Sri Shankaracharya Hill in Srinagar is the hill where Adi Shankaracharya did meditation in a cave nearly. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. Details of this can be googled. There are 240 odd steps. The last about 20 steps are about one foot high. Those who have arthritis or leg pain keep off. Instead you can do seva at the Langar at the start point. Try to reach early as possible as it gets crowded. The traffic is kind of unorganized hence gets messy. Autos are preferred mode to travel. Need to bargain hard with them. Empty your bladder before as the toilets are very unclean. It's at the highest point in Srinagar, therefore, it's under military. For an average person it will take about 20 minutes. Don't miss visiting the cave where the Shankaracharya did meditation.

I recently had the privilege of visiting the magnificent Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar, and I must say, it was an awe-inspiring experience. This ancient temple deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. Perched atop the Shankaracharya Hill, the temple holds immense importance for Hindus. It is believed to have been built around 200 BC by the revered philosopher and scholar, Adi Shankaracharya. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the most revered deities in Hinduism, and serves as a prominent pilgrimage site for devotees. The significance of the Shankaracharya Temple lies not only in its architectural splendor but also in its spiritual aura. As I climbed the stone steps leading to the temple, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of reverence and connection to the divine. The panoramic views of Srinagar and the surrounding valley only added to the sanctity of the place. Inside the temple, I was greeted by a beautiful idol of Lord Shiva, radiating an aura of tranquility and divinity. The priest shared insightful stories and teachings associated with the temple, deepening my understanding of Hindu traditions and beliefs. The architectural style of the Shankaracharya Temple reflects the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir and showcases intricate carvings and craftsmanship. It stands as a testament to the devotion and artistry of the past. For Hindus, a visit to the Shankaracharya Temple is not just a spiritual journey but a reaffirmation of their faith and connection to Lord Shiva. It is a place where devotees seek blessings, solace, and guidance. I highly recommend visiting the Shankaracharya Temple to anyone traveling to Srinagar, especially those interested in exploring Hindu spirituality and the cultural heritage of Kashmir. Overall, my experience at the Shankaracharya Temple was unforgettable. It left me with a profound sense of spirituality and a deeper appreciation for the significance of this sacred place in Hinduism. It is undoubtedly a must-visit destination in Srinagar.

This temple is situated on the Hill. You will find lot of people visiting to this place. Security is available through out and will keep the count on the vehicle going up with number of people. Might be you have to walk approximately for 400 meters since so many vehicles are there. If you have extra time, extending your 4 nights 5 days Kashmir itinerary to 6 or 7 nights allows for adding Sonmarg to your travel plans.

Nigeen Lake, nestled next to the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar, offers a serene and picturesque retreat for visitors. Surrounded by lush greenery and with a stunning mountain backdrop, this 1.7-mile-long lake is dotted with charming houseboats and inviting restaurants along its leafy shores. It provides a more secluded and intimate experience compared to Dal Lake, making it an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir.
It is appreciated for the same reasons that Dal Lake was admired decades ago—calm, quiet, and serene. There aren’t many hawkers to disturb the peace you seek. The scenery is beautiful, and you also need to bargain less compared to Dal Lake. Just look at the images to see for yourself!
Anirban — Google review
Went to this place last week with my family. It is very beautiful and clean lake in Srinagar. We decided to spend some time here away from the hustle and bustle of dal lake. The experience was worth it. The lake is really clean and offers stunning views at sunrise or sunset time. One can enjoy shikara ride in peace as there are very less hawkers on boat at this place which is unlike Dal lake. At last, we stayed in Anarkali house boat in this lake which was also very nice.

Nigeen Lake offers stunning views, peaceful shikara rides, and charming houseboat stays. It's perfect for travelers seeking calm and natural beauty. Less crowded, yet equally magical, Nigeen is a hidden gem that captures the soulful charm of Kashmir.
Ravi V — Google review
Nigeen Lake is a hidden gem in Srinagar—much quieter and cleaner than Dal Lake, which makes the experience even more special. The water is so calm and clear, and the view of the surrounding mountains is simply stunning. I stayed on a houseboat for a night and woke up to the most peaceful sunrise I’ve ever seen. The locals were warm and welcoming, and there were hardly any crowds, which made it feel more personal and authentic. If you're in Srinagar and looking for a serene escape, Nigeen Lake is a must-visit.

It is one of the prettiest and cleanest lake in Srinagar. We decided to spend some time here away from the hustle and bustle of dal lake. The experience was worth it. The lake is really clean and offers stunning views at sunrise or sunset time. It’s away from the traffic area, so you can enjoy your shikara ride in peace.
Gourav Y — Google review
Nigeen lake is the smaller lake in Srinagar, it is connected to Dal Lake but unlike Dal lake there is less crowds here and atmosphere is tranquil. Still there are good amount of house boats in this lake and some shikaras as well. You can also take a shikara ride from Nigeen lake to Dal lake as well. For those like less crowds, Nigeen lake is a better choice.
Sajeev T — Google review
A tranquil paradise offering a serene escape from the city's hustle. Encircled by majestic mountains and lush greenery, the lake's pristine waters invite visitors to unwind on shikara rides or simply soak in the scenic beauty. While some areas may witness tourist crowds, the overall ambiance remains peaceful and rejuvenating. Nigeen Lake is a must-visit destination for those seeking solace amidst nature's splendor.

Roza Bal

Shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Roza Bal, located in Srinagar, is a controversial shrine believed by some to be the tomb of Jesus Christ or a Muslim sage. The city also boasts other significant religious sites such as Hazratbal Shrine, Shankaracharya Temple, and Jama Masjid. Visitors can explore historical landmarks like Pari Mahal and Sri Pratap Singh Museum for a deeper understanding of the region's history.
Dual Tombs: The shrine contains two tombs: one of Hazrat Yuz Asaf (also known as Yuz Asaf) and the other of Syed Naseeruddin, an Islamic saint and descendant of the Shia Imam Ali Raza. Cultural Landmark: Roza Bal is a significant site in Srinagar's Khanyar quarter, known for its tranquil ambiance and cultural importance, attracting both local and international visitors. The Claim of Jesus's Tomb Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's Theory: In 1899, the founder of the Ahmadiyya movement, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, published his theory that the Roza Bal is the tomb of Jesus Christ, who he claimed survived crucifixion, traveled to India, and lived in Kashmir for many years. Evidence and Interpretations: Proponents of this theory point to several pieces of evidence, such as the Hebrew name Yuza, meaning "son of Joseph," Yuz Asaf's meaning "Leader of the Healed," and a rock carving in the shrine that shows wounds on the feet, suggesting crucifixion injuries. Historical Context: The theory gained traction as the legend of Jesus's "missing years" in the East, a concept present in some minority traditions, was linked to the shrine. Modern Perspective Myth or Belief: The claim remains controversial, with many historians and scholars dismissing it as a myth or urban legend, while it is a significant belief within the Ahmadiyya community and for some Christians. Cultural and Spiritual Attraction: Despite the differing views on its historical claim, the shrine remains an important religious and cultural landmark, attracting visitors who are drawn to its historical significance and spiritual atmosphere.
Bilal P — Google review
The Rozabal Shrine is situated in the Khaniyar locality of Srinagar. It is a significant religious site for both Muslims and some Christians who believe in the claim that Jesus is buried there. The shrine also holds the graves of other important religious figures, including those of the Muslim saint Yuz Asaf and the Islamic scholar Mir Sayyid Naseeruddin. After getting into deep I found that the mainstream academic and historical consensus does not support the claim that Jesus traveled to India or was buried in the Rozabal shrine. These ideas are not recognized by the Christian faith or the broader scholarly community. Location: 2 min walking distance from Masjid Dastageer Sahib Parking 🅿️: There is no space for parking. You can park your vehicle near Dastageer Sahib Masjid.

I visited the The Khanqah-e-Moula Kashmiri: خانقاہِ معلیٰ), also known as Shah-e-Hamadan Masjid and Khanqah, is a Sunni mosque located in the Old City of Srinagar, Kashmir. The mosque was completely off limits to non muslims and ladies (see attached photos). There is a big sign at the entrance to the mosque which clearly states this (see photo #34). I found this extremely disappointing and exclusionary. The mosque is an example of Kashmiri wooden architecture, and is decorated with papier mache. The mosque structure is a Monument of National Importance. The mosque is situated on the right bank of the river Jhelum between the Fateh Kadal and Zaina Kadal bridges and was built in 1395 CE u Sent the command of Sultan Sikendar in memory of Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani.

Shame on authorities and masjid/dargah community for no proper toilets and washrooms. I visited after a gap of 13 years and i saw the same broken toilets and washrooms people still using. Female visitors do face a lot of problems for washrooms. I wonder where all the donations go. While on the other hand no words for serenity and sufism of Nund Reshi dargah. I love it ❤️
Aijaz B — Google review
Nund Rishi was born in a village called Qaimoh (old name Katimusha) in Kulgam district, which is 10 km from Anantnag and 60 km Southeast of Srinagar in the year 649 Kashmiri Calendar/1377 CE, corresponding to 779 Hijri.[2] His grandfather was from Kishtwar. His father's name was Sheikh Sala-ud-din and his mother Sadra was called Sadra Moji or Sadra Deddi. In Kashmir, Moji means 'mother' and Deddi denotes 'elderly.' Nur-ud-din was apprenticed to a couple of traders, one after the other. He felt disgusted with the ways of the world, and, deciding upon renunciation, retired to caves for meditation at the age of thirty. It is said that he lived for twelve years in the wilderness. Hence, perhaps, kaimuh is given the derivation of kai-wan (or ban, a forest) in rustic belief. The actual cave of contemplation is shown in kaimuh and is about 10 feet deep. In his last days, he is claimed to have sustained life on one cup of milk daily. At some point he reduced himself to water alone, and died at the age of 63, in the reign of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin, in 842 A. H. = 1438 A.C. Shams-ul-Arifin or 'the sun of the pious' is the chronogram which gives the date of his death. The Sultan accompanied his bier to the grave. The burial prayers were led by a divine or 'Alim of the age, Makhdum Baba Usman Uchchap Ganai. The tomb of Sheikh Nur-ud-din at Charari Sharief, a small town perched on a dry bare hill, 20 miles southwest of Srinagar, is visited by pilgrims to the present day. During his lifetime, he witnessed much change in the valley, from Hinduism to Islam. Various historical events helped to shape his mind in such a manner that he produced some works of philosophy, in his own manner of verses and poetry. Sheikh ul-Alam was deeply affected by such events and this is apparent in his verses; he specifically recalls arrival of Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani to Kashmir, which happened thrice: in September 1372 CE, in 1379 CE and in 1383 CE. Sheikh Nur-ud-din- appears to have married Zai Ded from Dadasara in Tral. Her father Akber-u-Din and two brothers "Kamal-u-din" and "Jamal-u-din" are buried in Dadasara and had two sons and one daughter. On the death of the children, Zai Ded also renounced the world, and became a hermit. She was buried at Kaimuh on her death. Sheikh Nur-ud-din's life has impressed the Kashmiri people. The Afghan governor, Ata Muhammad Khan, gave, as it were, expression to public sentiment when coins were struck by him in the name of Sheikh Nur-ud-din in 1223-25 A.H. (1808-10 CE).

The Veshu River plunges over 25 meters, creating a powerful cascade that is fenced off for visitor safety. This secluded gem offers an untouched beauty amidst lush greenery and snow-capped mountains.
It is said to be the Niagara falls of Kashmir and boy it didn’t disappoint. We took a little detour from pahalgam and visited the falls on our way to Srinagar. Such a beautiful waterfall, it started raining and quickly rain turned into hail.. there were no people around maybe bcz it was weekday. The road that goes up to the falls is narrow and beautiful filled with lush pine trees and river flowing down. All in all it was just magical and a must add to your Kashmir itinerary.

Aharbal Waterfall – The Niagara of Kashmir Aharbal Waterfall is one of the most mesmerizing and powerful natural wonders in Kashmir. Often called the "Niagara of Kashmir," this waterfall cascades down with immense force through lush pine forests and rocky terrain, creating a thunderous yet soothing sound that stays with you long after you leave. The scenic drive to Aharbal is filled with beauty—rolling meadows, charming villages, and panoramic views. Once there, the view of the roaring water plunging into a deep gorge is simply breathtaking. The surrounding greenery and tranquil atmosphere make it a perfect escape for nature lovers and photographers alike. Less crowded and still raw in beauty, Aharbal offers both adventure and peace. Whether you want to admire the falls, enjoy a picnic nearby, or take in the natural charm—it’s a must-visit spot in Kashmir. Highly recommended for a day trip that combines thrill, tranquility, and natural beauty.

It’s easy to reach, with proper paths and viewpoints that make it safe and enjoyable for all ages. The sound of the water, the fresh air, and the natural beauty all around make it a perfect day trip. There are a few local stalls nearby for tea and snacks too. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a silent and scenic escape!

Visited this place with my family. The drive is a good 1.5 hours n 70km from Srinagar. Also known as the Niagra Falls of India . On the way, we stopped at the dense fir n pine Forest n apple orchards. The river that the waterfall is on is known by a few different names like Veshu River, Veshaw River, or Veshaw Nallah. Once the water of the river freezes in the winter season, the waterfall starts to look even more beautiful. Also, when driving towards the falls you come across the beautiful yellow mustard flower fields which are soothing to the eye. At Aharbal you need to take a Rs 15/- ticket to enter. There are ice cream and eatry shops in the garden area. There is also ample parking area. We enjoyed our time here n it was well worth the drive.

One of the most peaceful and serene spots to visit near Srinagar, in Kashmir. Very beautiful place, and much more peaceful compared to Dal Lake. The weather was especially lovely on the day we visited. We went for a Shikara ride in the lake, and it was really calming and quiet. This is a place which is more frequented by locals. A beautiful place, better than even sonamarg and remove the Gondola and it's better than Gulmarg too. Very few tourists, serene meadows, still very clean and calming. On the flip side, the route is not well maintained, facilities such as washrooms, restaurants, seating etc are in a very poor condition. Visited in winters, and so that may be a reason. Otherwise a beautiful meadow..

Beautiful Meadows Valley was one of the most peaceful and scenic places I’ve ever visited. The wide green landscapes, fresh air, and colorful blooms made it feel like a hidden paradise. It was a perfect spot for relaxation, photography, and reconnecting with nature. It’s truly disappointing that the valley is now closed. Yousmarg is truly a hidden gem of Kashmir. Unlike the more crowded tourist spots such as Gulmarg or Pahalgam, this place offers complete peace and untouched natural beauty. The drive from Srinagar itself is refreshing, passing through villages, orchards, and the famous Charar-e-Sharif. As soon as you reach Yousmarg, you are welcomed by endless meadows surrounded by dense pine forests and snow-capped mountains in the distance. The air feels fresh and pure, and the calmness of the place instantly relaxes you. It is perfect for those who want to escape the busy life and spend some quiet time in nature. There are many things to explore here—short treks to Doodhganga, Nilnag Lake, and Sang-e-Safed make the experience even more memorable. Horse riding across the green pastures is another must-try activity. In summers, the meadows are full of wildflowers, while in winters the entire valley is covered in snow, turning it into a white wonderland. What I loved most about Yousmarg is its serenity. It is not commercialized, so you truly get to enjoy the raw beauty of Kashmir. If you are a nature lover, photographer, or someone looking for peace and fresh air, Yousmarg is a place you must not miss. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kashmir.”

It is a beautiful valley of Kashmir. Distance from Srinagar is only 50km. Visiting places are- Doodh ganga river and false. Pony available to go to the spot from entrance. But you can go by walking. Getting down is easier but climbing up is bit difficult. Fruit and food stall also available there.

Wular Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in South Asia and the largest freshwater lake in India. It is located near Bandipora town in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, India, lying at an elevation of about 1,580 meters on the foothills of the Haramuk Mountain.
Zahoor K — Google review
Wular Lake is one of the largest fresh water lakes in the Indian subcontinent. It is located near Bandipora town in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. The lake's size varies seasonally from 30 to 189 square kilometres. In addition much of the lake has been drained as a result of willow plantations being built on the shore in the 1950s. The Kashmiri sultan Zain-ul-Abidin is reputed to have ordered the construction of the artificial island of Zaina Lank in the middle of the lake in 1444.Zayn Ul Aabidin constructed a spacious barge which he sank in the lake and upon which he laid a foundation of bricks and stones till it rose high enough to be at level as the water. Upon this, he erected a Mosque and other buildings and gave the islet the name of Lanka. The expense of this work was defrayed by the fortunate discovery of two idols of solid gold, which had been brought up from the lake by divers.Wular Lake is an important fish habitat. The lake sustains a rich population of birds. Terrestrial birds observed around the lake include the black-eared kite, Eurasian sparrowhawk, short-toed eagle, Himalayan golden eagle, Himalayan monal, chukar partridge, koklass pheasant, rock dove, common cuckoo, alpine swift, Indian roller, Himalayan woodpecker, hoopoe, barn swallow, golden oriole, etc.

It is the largest freshwater lake in india which captivates visitors with its stunning beauty, and the addition of Vantage Park enhances the experience further. This park provides panoramic views of the lake, allowing visitors to appreciate its vastness and tranquility. With lush greenery and comfortable seating, it's an ideal spot to relax and soak in the breathtaking scenery of Wular Lake.

Wular Lake also known as Wolar in Kashmiri, is one of the largest fresh water lakes in South Asia. It is located near Bandipora town in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. The lake basin was formed as a result of tectonic activity and is fed by the Jhelum River and stream madhumati. The lake's size varies seasonally from 30 to 189 square kilometres. The Lake is surrounded by the marshes and have a good natural wildlife. Various water birds are also seen in the lake. Fishing is also important aspect of walur contributes approx.. 60% of fish yield of Kashmir. However it faces environmental threats including the conversion of large parts of the lake’s catchment areas into agriculture land, pollution from fertilizers and animal wastes, hunting of waterfowl and migratory birds and weed infestation in the lake itself. The lake is embraced by majestic mountains and has a great view. The best time to visit is late afternoon as the light is beautiful for photos. When the afternoon lights reflect from the lake and the weeds, it creates beautiful landscape. It takes around 2.30 hrs from Srinagar to reach any one side of Wular Lake by Car. On the way to Wular, you can visit Manasbal Lake also. It will take around 1.30 hrs more if you travel around the whole lake by car through main road. So, you have to spend one full day for this trip. However, very few tourists visit this place. I must also admit that apart from raw natural beauty of the lake and surroundings, there is nothing else to see here. There are very few restaurants near the main attraction points of the lake (however you can find many on our way). Also, lake of maintenance and development is visible near the main attraction points of the lake. So nature lovers will find this place interesting but general tourist may not find this place attractive. But for me, the Wular lake is certainly a beautiful place and worth a visit.

Visited this lake on our way to Gurez valley. Located in Bandipora district. It is peaceful n quiet. The bathroom is clean. Available for both ladies n gents. There us an entry fee for the garden. Outside there is parking without any fee. It's the biggest fresh water lake. Its max length is 16km. Domesticated geese and cows can be seen on the bank of Wular Lake.

The priest told us the temple caught fire recently but the renovation and beautification of the premises is going on. The near by view during January is breathtaking, you can enjoy sledging, skiing, can also play in dense snow and click pictures in the white background. There are plenty of shops for food, hotels for stay and public washrooms nearby.

The temple is situated on a hill surrounded by snow, offering a breathtaking panoramic view from the top. The serene white landscape enhances the beauty of the temple, creating a peaceful and divine atmosphere. From the summit, one can witness the vast expanse of snow-capped peaks, misty valleys, and perhaps even a glimpse of the sun casting golden hues over the pristine surroundings. The combination of spirituality and nature makes this location truly mesmerizing, inviting both devotees and nature lovers to experience its tranquility and magnificence.

This shiv mandir is located near the base of Gulmarg mountains. The song Jai Jai Shiv Shankar was filmed here. Words will fall less to describe this place. In winters while it gets white washed by snow, in summer it is garlanded by green meadows and wild flowers.

Very beautiful and small temple built by wife of Raja Hari Singh. The priest also allows visitors to do prayer inside the temple. The donation department is handling by a muslim person. The view from the hight of temple is beautiful. But the maintenance needed for stairs and temple. The tourism department should take care of maintaining the beauty of temple.

The picturesque landscape is dotted with colorful flowers and lush green grass, making it a photographer's paradise. The serene atmosphere and breathtaking views make it an ideal spot for relaxation and contemplation. Don't miss this viewpoint for an unforgettable experience!

Gulmarg Viewpoint is truly a breathtaking destination, offering mesmerizing panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, lush green meadows, and serene landscapes. The tranquility of the place makes it a must-visit for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful escape. The scenery is absolutely worth every moment. However, while the beauty of Gulmarg is unparalleled, there is a need for enhanced safety measures at certain points. Installing more safety barriers and ensuring clearer signage could help visitors feel more secure while enjoying the scenery. Additionally, adding more designated selfie spots with proper guardrails would allow tourists to capture the stunning views without compromising their safety. With these minor improvements, Gulmarg Viewpoint could be even more enjoyable for everyone.

Nice view point but Visited the Gulmarg View Point during snowfall, but unfortunately, the visibility was poor, and we couldn’t see much due to the heavy snow. Still, the snow-covered surroundings added a magical touch to the experience. Would be a great spot on a clear day.

Gulmarg: A Day Trip to Remember Gulmarg is a fantastic place for a day trip, especially if you're looking for stunning scenery and a breath of fresh air. Here's what makes it a great destination: Perfect Day Trip: Gulmarg offers a full day's worth of activities without needing an overnight stay. Botapathri Adventure: Head to Botapathri via jeep safari (expect costs around ₹3000-3500). Make sure the driver includes stops at all the scenic points for photo opportunities. Botapathri Highlights: This spot boasts a beautiful river and a short, easy 30-minute trek along its banks. It's also a perfect place to relax and enjoy a picnic lunch. Tips: Be sure to negotiate the jeep safari price beforehand to ensure you get a fair rate. Carry comfortable shoes for the trek. Pack plenty of water and snacks for your picnic. Don't forget your camera to capture the breathtaking views! Overall, Gulmarg is a gem for a day trip, offering stunning scenery, adventure activities, and a chance to relax in nature.

The Gulmarg Gondola is a must-visit attraction, offering an exhilarating cable car ride that takes you to an altitude of 14,000 feet above sea level. As the second highest and second longest cable car in the world, it provides breathtaking views of Gulmarg and Khilanmarg, allowing visitors to marvel at the natural beauty of the Himalayas.
The Gulmarg Gondola is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! 🚡 Surrounded by breathtaking snow-capped mountains and endless valleys, the cable car ride offers spectacular views that feel like heaven on earth. The ride itself is smooth and thrilling, especially when going up to Phase 2, where the air is fresh and the scenery is magical. It’s well managed, and the staff are helpful. I recommend booking tickets online in advance to avoid long queues. Whether in summer with green meadows or in winter with white snow everywhere, the experience is unforgettable. A must-visit attraction in Kashmir for nature and adventure lovers. ❄️🌲
MOHAMMED M — Google review
The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the most thrilling and scenic cable car rides I have ever experienced, and it is easily one of the highlights of visiting Gulmarg. Known as one of the highest cable car systems in the world, it offers an unparalleled view of the majestic Himalayas, snow-covered slopes, and lush green meadows depending on the season. From the very first step onto the gondola, you are treated to a sense of excitement and anticipation. The ride is divided into two phases: Phase 1 takes you from Gulmarg town to Kongdori, and Phase 2 goes up to Apharwat Peak. Both sections provide breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. During winter, the slopes are blanketed in snow, making it perfect for skiing, snowboarding, or simply enjoying the winter wonderland. In summer, the same slopes transform into vibrant green meadows dotted with wildflowers, offering excellent opportunities for photography and sightseeing. The gondola cabins are comfortable and safe, with glass windows that allow for 360-degree views. The ride itself is smooth, though at times it can feel slightly steep — which only adds to the thrill. The journey up takes around 8–12 minutes for the first phase and slightly longer for the second phase, giving you ample time to soak in the scenery and take pictures. Tickets can be purchased at the base station, but I highly recommend booking online in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons, to avoid long queues. Prices are reasonable considering the uniqueness and scale of the gondola, and the experience is worth every rupee. Once you reach the top, the panoramic views of Apharwat Peak and the surrounding Gulmarg region are absolutely mesmerizing. Whether you are an adventure seeker, a photographer, or someone who just wants to enjoy the fresh mountain air, the Gondola offers something for everyone. Food stalls and small shacks at the top provide basic refreshments, but most visitors come here for the scenery rather than dining. Overall, the Gulmarg Gondola is more than just a cable car ride; it is an experience that combines adventure, natural beauty, and breathtaking views. Whether you’re visiting in snow-covered winter or lush green summer, it is an absolute must-do activity in Gulmarg. The convenience, safety, and sheer beauty of the ride make it unforgettable and something I would highly recommend to anyone traveling to this region.
Lakshay M — Google review
An unforgettable experience, offering stunning panoramic views as you glide smoothly above the landscape. The journey is peaceful and scenic, making it perfect for photography lovers and nature enthusiasts. It’s well-maintained, safe, and gives you a unique aerial perspective that you simply can’t get from the ground. A must-try for anyone visiting!

You can take a ride in Gondola whenever you like as there is not many tourists due to Pahalgam incident. You can take Gondola first phase and enjoy one of the most beautiful place on earth. The sight is incredible. There is washroom and restaurants.. from there you can take second phase of Gondola to Apharwat peak where you can enjoy the snow cap mountain around you... You will praise God for creating such a beautiful place. It may be better if you book online, for gondola ticket but tourists are not so many at present and you can take your ticket on spot, there is no time issue right now..first phase is 800 per person while second phase is 1000 per person. There is a parking lot at the foot of the mountain where you can have food and buy whatever you might need on the mountain.. and the gondola ride centre is a walking distance from the parking lot

One of the best Gondola ride experience, we went for both phases. Phase 1 you can do mostly all good sports like skiing , sledge ride etc. in snowy season, we were lucky when we went in mid march it snowed for few days just before our arrival, on the day also it was fresh snowing lightly.nice views. We bought ticket in advance online a month or so back.

Gulmarg was absolutely magical! ❄️ I visited in January this year, and it was my first time seeing snow.. what a dream!!! The drive from Srinagar itself was so scenic and peaceful. Just a heads-up though, there are quite a few vendors on the way who’ll insist you rent boots, jackets etc. We were wearing proper hiking shoes and didn’t need any of it. When we went, Phase 2 of the gondola was closed, so we went up to Phase 1, but honestly, that was more than enough, it was completely snow-covered and breathtaking! Make sure to book your gondola tickets online well in advance, even a month before if possible. The lines are very long, so some patience is needed. At the top, there’s a restaurant with igloo-style domes outside — really cute! The igloo domes had a separate cost (₹2000 including a drink, as far as I can remember.. it’s great for pictures) We didn’t eat a full meal at the restaurant, but enjoyed a hot cup of kahwa, which was perfect for the cold. Even their staff are all very kind and helpful. There’s a restroom available there as well, though it’s chargeable (₹20) if you’re not dining. A lot of people offer snow bikes and sledge rides (around ₹2,500), but we skipped those since the gondola ticket is already two-way and the views are gorgeous enough on their own. Overall, Gulmarg was stunning and worth the trip, though because of the heavy crowds and long wait times, I personally don’t see myself going again — but I’m so glad I went once! ❤️
Marium J — Google review
Best during snow 🌨️ When I visited in October, there was no crowding and very small line and you can take the ticket in line itself. During peak season you need to book the ticket well in advance else you will not be able to visit. Hence plan basis the season and online ticket availability.
Ashish K — Google review
Gulmarg Gondola – Honest Review Gulmarg’s natural beauty is exceptional, but tourist management is extremely poor. On arrival, visitors are pushed by “mandatory” guides and repeatedly approached by horse riders, drivers, and vendors who continue to pressure even after refusal. Phase-1 boarding is orderly, but the return is chaotic with no directions. Phase-2 online payment is unreliable—UPI failures were ignored despite proof, and cash isn’t accepted. Additional guide fees and overpriced activities at the top add to the inconvenience. Unauthorized cars charge ₹2,000–₹3,000 for places not worth visiting. A 45-minute mechanical halt caused crowd chaos with no security support. The army deserves credit for managing tough conditions, but government oversight, signage, pricing transparency, and crowd control are severely lacking. Overall, a disappointing experience and visitors should be cautious.

Alpather Frozen Lake is a stunning frozen lake located between the Apharwat peaks in Gulmarg. It remains frozen for most of the year and becomes a popular skating spot during winter. Accessible via an arduous trek, it offers breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. Visitors can hire a guide from Gulmarg to reach the lake, either through a challenging 13km trek or a shorter 1.5km hike from Gondola Phase II of Mt.
When you reach phase two via the gondola , then ita a 1.5 hr trek to the frozen lake with only rocky terrains and no definite path to walk so it’s highly recommended if you are fit enough then do the trek to the frozen lake . The guides there asked for 3000 and they will take you but no need of that you can do it yourself if you are fit enough. My experience: I & my dad visited it on October 9th 2024 & met around 50-60 people who left their journey midway as it was really difficult because of single digit temperature and lack of oxygen as well, add the rocky terrains to this . So, as I was saying many started this trek and me and my dad were the only ones to complete it with no one in sight. It was really one if a kind experience because snow wasnt there on lower phases but as we trekked higher towards the frozen lake we found snow 🤍🤍

Alpather Lake is a stunning high-altitude lake located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas, near Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir. The lake is famous for its pristine beauty, crystal-clear waters, and snow-capped surroundings. The lake remains frozen for much of the year, from November to mid-June, making it a popular spot for trekkers and adventurers during the summer months when the snow starts to melt. It's about a 13-kilometer trek(without using Gondola services) from Gulmarg and offers breathtaking views along the way, including rugged mountain terrain, wildflowers, and panoramic vistas.

It's a one-hour trek from Phase 2, Golconda Ride. Due to time constraints, we took a difficult shortcut. The trek involved climbing steep, rocky terrains. The water was a stunning shade of blue. It was pretty calm and peaceful. The lake is surrounded by mountains & glacier. Fun fact : Your voice will echo there, try shouting out something. In July 2024, the lake wasn't frozen, but check with local guides. We hired a guide, he started from 4K INR and end up charging 2K to take us to lake with shortcut for 2 ppl. Feel free to ask questions in comments or thumbs up if found helpful!

Amazing experience hiking this mountain though high altitude. But it's better to acclimatise your body for the altitude by spending little time at each phase. It's not recommended for cardiac patients and people with low immunity and stamina. If you have some stints with trekking then too you need to be careful while climbing. But the views along the way and the frozen lake is spell bounding!

We visited in September there was no snow. I have visited this place few years back in june month and there was lots of snow. The peak usually covers with snow all around the years. Weather was very good and it was all cloudy. It felt like heaven because of the cloud. Apharwat is a beautiful Mountain which is situated in Gulmarg. During our family trip to ‘Kashmir’ one day we visited Apharwat Mountain through cable car at ‘Gulmarg Gondala’. As it is the prime attraction of Gulmarg, there is a heavy rush of tourists on every day. The ticket for first phase is Rs. 750/- and from first phase to second phase is Rs.900/- . We went to phase 2 Apharwat Mountain from Kongdoori phase 1. The cable ride was very comfortable and enjoyable. Once we reached the pick it was snow everywhere. There are so many activities for our enjoyment. Over all experience was very good for us and we enjoyed the ride very well.

The decision to climb up the Apharwat peak was one of the best I made during my Gulmarg trip. It was an experience of a lifetime. Apharwat peak is the highest point of Pirpanjal range. It is situated 4390 meters (14,400 feet) above mean sea level. You can reach half way around in the gondola ride, thereafter you need to climb up to the summit. I trekked up during the peak of winter season. The roads leading to the summit made by indian army was all ice laden, so I had to climb steep up through thick snow. It is all fun and beautiful till you are in the gondola ride, but up here, you get to see the mighty nature in all it's glory. There weren't anybody else except for two of our local guides and me and my co - trekkers. It is highly recommended that you take a local fellow who knows the terrain if you are climbing uphill, since there will be treacherous snow trodden rocky paths. If you get stuck or injured, it will be highly unlikely that someone will find you for hours together if you are all on your own. The climb to the summit will take 2.5hrs from the gondola station phase 2 and it's around 2km straight up. There are no shops Or equipment renting places available at phase 2, so you have to come well prepared. On the other side of the summit is the Alpather lake or the frozen lake, which will remain snow covered and frozen throughout winter. The LoC and PoK is barely 3-4km from the summit. It will be a rather easy trek if you are visiting during summer, as the road to the summit will be snow free. The serenity of this place is beyond words. If you are an adventure seeker and want to go offbeat in Gulmarg, you have got to see this for yourself.
