Nature preserve
Yousmarg, an unexplored hill station in the northern part of India, is a hidden gem located 80 km west of Jammu and Kashmir State. Nestled just 47 km south of Srinagar, it boasts snow-covered hills and lush green meadows dotted with pine and fir trees reminiscent of the European Alps.
On visiting Yousmarg, you can enjoy the meadows surrounded by snowclad mountains on one side. Here many activities can be done. One being the Horse Ride to Nilnag Lake. The path to Nilnag Lake is quite muddy in some places passing through the pine forests

A beautiful place, better than even sonamarg and remove the Gondola and it's better than Gulmarg too. Very few tourists, serene meadows, still very clean and calming. On the flip side, the route is not well maintained, facilities such as washrooms, restaurants, seating etc are in a very poor condition. Visited in winters, and so that may be a reason. Otherwise a beautiful meadow..
Devout A — Google review
Beautiful Meadows Valley was one of the most peaceful and scenic places I’ve ever visited. The wide green landscapes, fresh air, and colorful blooms made it feel like a hidden paradise. It was a perfect spot for relaxation, photography, and reconnecting with nature. It’s truly disappointing that the valley is now closed. A place so naturally beautiful deserved to be preserved and cherished. I hope it reopens someday, because experiences like this are rare to find.
Bhargavi — Google review
This pictures are taken at June last week. When I first came on the bank of this spring... I thought this place is not real.. Sooooo beautiful so green... I felt like it's another word... Or heaven.. Small springs, eye soothing green grass on the bank of the river, the picture perfect village...
Brototi D — Google review
Good place to visit, all need to have cash available instead of E-transfer option de to non availability of mobile network, nowadays few restaurants provide you wifi access to transfer via UPI.
Muhammad I — Google review
Yousmarg is a stunning, less-crowded alternative to Gulmarg. If you love nature and peace, this is your spot! The main meadow is simply gorgeous, surrounded by tall pine forests and snow-capped peaks
Aabid A — Google review
Yousmarg is truly a hidden gem of Kashmir. Unlike the more crowded tourist spots such as Gulmarg or Pahalgam, this place offers complete peace and untouched natural beauty. The drive from Srinagar itself is refreshing, passing through villages, orchards, and the famous Charar-e-Sharif. As soon as you reach Yousmarg, you are welcomed by endless meadows surrounded by dense pine forests and snow-capped mountains in the distance. The air feels fresh and pure, and the calmness of the place instantly relaxes you. It is perfect for those who want to escape the busy life and spend some quiet time in nature. There are many things to explore here—short treks to Doodhganga, Nilnag Lake, and Sang-e-Safed make the experience even more memorable. Horse riding across the green pastures is another must-try activity. In summers, the meadows are full of wildflowers, while in winters the entire valley is covered in snow, turning it into a white wonderland. What I loved most about Yousmarg is its serenity. It is not commercialized, so you truly get to enjoy the raw beauty of Kashmir. If you are a nature lover, photographer, or someone looking for peace and fresh air, Yousmarg is a place you must not miss. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kashmir.”
Jasir S — Google review
It is a beautiful valley of Kashmir. Distance from Srinagar is only 50km. Visiting places are- Doodh ganga river and false. Pony available to go to the spot from entrance. But you can go by walking. Getting down is easier but climbing up is bit difficult. Fruit and food stall also available there.

Bodies of Water
Nigeen Lake, nestled next to the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar, offers a serene and picturesque retreat for visitors. Surrounded by lush greenery and with a stunning mountain backdrop, this 1.7-mile-long lake is dotted with charming houseboats and inviting restaurants along its leafy shores. It provides a more secluded and intimate experience compared to Dal Lake, making it an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir.
It is appreciated for the same reasons that Dal Lake was admired decades ago—calm, quiet, and serene. There aren’t many hawkers to disturb the peace you seek. The scenery is beautiful, and you also need to bargain less compared to Dal Lake. Just look at the images to see for yourself!
Anirban — Google review
Went to this place last week with my family. It is very beautiful and clean lake in Srinagar. We decided to spend some time here away from the hustle and bustle of dal lake. The experience was worth it. The lake is really clean and offers stunning views at sunrise or sunset time. One can enjoy shikara ride in peace as there are very less hawkers on boat at this place which is unlike Dal lake. At last, we stayed in Anarkali house boat in this lake which was also very nice.

Nigeen Lake offers stunning views, peaceful shikara rides, and charming houseboat stays. It's perfect for travelers seeking calm and natural beauty. Less crowded, yet equally magical, Nigeen is a hidden gem that captures the soulful charm of Kashmir.
Ravi V — Google review
Nigeen Lake is a hidden gem in Srinagar—much quieter and cleaner than Dal Lake, which makes the experience even more special. The water is so calm and clear, and the view of the surrounding mountains is simply stunning. I stayed on a houseboat for a night and woke up to the most peaceful sunrise I’ve ever seen. The locals were warm and welcoming, and there were hardly any crowds, which made it feel more personal and authentic. If you're in Srinagar and looking for a serene escape, Nigeen Lake is a must-visit.

It is one of the prettiest and cleanest lake in Srinagar. We decided to spend some time here away from the hustle and bustle of dal lake. The experience was worth it. The lake is really clean and offers stunning views at sunrise or sunset time. It’s away from the traffic area, so you can enjoy your shikara ride in peace.
Gourav Y — Google review
Nigeen lake is the smaller lake in Srinagar, it is connected to Dal Lake but unlike Dal lake there is less crowds here and atmosphere is tranquil. Still there are good amount of house boats in this lake and some shikaras as well. You can also take a shikara ride from Nigeen lake to Dal lake as well. For those like less crowds, Nigeen lake is a better choice.
Sajeev T — Google review
A tranquil paradise offering a serene escape from the city's hustle. Encircled by majestic mountains and lush greenery, the lake's pristine waters invite visitors to unwind on shikara rides or simply soak in the scenic beauty. While some areas may witness tourist crowds, the overall ambiance remains peaceful and rejuvenating. Nigeen Lake is a must-visit destination for those seeking solace amidst nature's splendor.

Aharbal Waterfall, often referred to as the Niagara Falls of Kashmir, is a majestic natural wonder located in the Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir. The Veshu River plunges over 25 meters, creating a powerful cascade that is fenced off for visitor safety. This secluded gem offers an untouched beauty amidst lush greenery and snow-capped mountains.
It is said to be the Niagara falls of Kashmir and boy it didn’t disappoint. We took a little detour from pahalgam and visited the falls on our way to Srinagar. Such a beautiful waterfall, it started raining and quickly rain turned into hail.. there were no people around maybe bcz it was weekday. The road that goes up to the falls is narrow and beautiful filled with lush pine trees and river flowing down. All in all it was just magical and a must add to your Kashmir itinerary.
Zeba — Google review
We visited there on 22nd April 2025. The day when pahelgam terror attack took place. This is an offbeat place of kashmir. Beautiful waterfalls surrounded by beautiful nature. I dont know when kashmir will be peaceful again and tourists will start visiting kashmir again. Whenever everything will be normal on the way from Srinagar to Pahelgam you can visit this place.

Aharbal Waterfall – The Niagara of Kashmir Aharbal Waterfall is one of the most mesmerizing and powerful natural wonders in Kashmir. Often called the "Niagara of Kashmir," this waterfall cascades down with immense force through lush pine forests and rocky terrain, creating a thunderous yet soothing sound that stays with you long after you leave. The scenic drive to Aharbal is filled with beauty—rolling meadows, charming villages, and panoramic views. Once there, the view of the roaring water plunging into a deep gorge is simply breathtaking. The surrounding greenery and tranquil atmosphere make it a perfect escape for nature lovers and photographers alike. Less crowded and still raw in beauty, Aharbal offers both adventure and peace. Whether you want to admire the falls, enjoy a picnic nearby, or take in the natural charm—it’s a must-visit spot in Kashmir. Highly recommended for a day trip that combines thrill, tranquility, and natural beauty.

Aharbal Waterfall is one of the most beautiful spots I’ve visited in Kashmir. The water drops with a powerful roar into a deep gorge, surrounded by tall pine trees and peaceful hills. It’s easy to reach, with proper paths and viewpoints that make it safe and enjoyable for all ages. The sound of the water, the fresh air, and the natural beauty all around make it a perfect day trip. There are a few local stalls nearby for tea and snacks too. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a silent and scenic escape!

Visited this place with my family. The drive is a good 1.5 hours n 70km from Srinagar. Also known as the Niagra Falls of India . On the way, we stopped at the dense fir n pine Forest n apple orchards. The river that the waterfall is on is known by a few different names like Veshu River, Veshaw River, or Veshaw Nallah. Once the water of the river freezes in the winter season, the waterfall starts to look even more beautiful. Also, when driving towards the falls you come across the beautiful yellow mustard flower fields which are soothing to the eye. At Aharbal you need to take a Rs 15/- ticket to enter. There are ice cream and eatry shops in the garden area. There is also ample parking area. We enjoyed our time here n it was well worth the drive.

Shankaracharya Hill, a prominent landmark in Srinagar, offers an enchanting blend of natural beauty and spiritual significance. This hill is home to the ancient Shankaracharya Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which dates back over a thousand years and is one of India's oldest temples. As you hike up the hill, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Srinagar and its picturesque valley.
Opens Morning 7:30 am Entry Closes 4:30 pm Lord Shiva (Jyesteshwara) 🔱🕉️ idol inside hill... oldest temple built in 3rd century. 240 steps to enter the temple. The incarnation of lord Shiva Aadiguru Shankaracharya meditated here for some days....must visit 💞 Nice view from top of the hill, almost seems entire srinagar City beautiful view....🌆
Shiva V — Google review
Sri Shankaracharya Hill in Srinagar is the hill where Adi Shankaracharya did meditation in a cave nearly. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. Details of this can be googled. There are 240 odd steps. The last about 20 steps are about one foot high. Those who have arthritis or leg pain keep off. Instead you can do seva at the Langar at the start point. Try to reach early as possible as it gets crowded. The traffic is kind of unorganized hence gets messy. Autos are preferred mode to travel. Need to bargain hard with them. Empty your bladder before as the toilets are very unclean. It's at the highest point in Srinagar, therefore, it's under military. For an average person it will take about 20 minutes. Don't miss visiting the cave where the Shankaracharya did meditation.
Dilip G — Google review
I recently had the privilege of visiting the magnificent Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar, and I must say, it was an awe-inspiring experience. This ancient temple deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. Perched atop the Shankaracharya Hill, the temple holds immense importance for Hindus. It is believed to have been built around 200 BC by the revered philosopher and scholar, Adi Shankaracharya. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the most revered deities in Hinduism, and serves as a prominent pilgrimage site for devotees. The significance of the Shankaracharya Temple lies not only in its architectural splendor but also in its spiritual aura. As I climbed the stone steps leading to the temple, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of reverence and connection to the divine. The panoramic views of Srinagar and the surrounding valley only added to the sanctity of the place. Inside the temple, I was greeted by a beautiful idol of Lord Shiva, radiating an aura of tranquility and divinity. The priest shared insightful stories and teachings associated with the temple, deepening my understanding of Hindu traditions and beliefs. The architectural style of the Shankaracharya Temple reflects the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir and showcases intricate carvings and craftsmanship. It stands as a testament to the devotion and artistry of the past. For Hindus, a visit to the Shankaracharya Temple is not just a spiritual journey but a reaffirmation of their faith and connection to Lord Shiva. It is a place where devotees seek blessings, solace, and guidance. I highly recommend visiting the Shankaracharya Temple to anyone traveling to Srinagar, especially those interested in exploring Hindu spirituality and the cultural heritage of Kashmir. Overall, my experience at the Shankaracharya Temple was unforgettable. It left me with a profound sense of spirituality and a deeper appreciation for the significance of this sacred place in Hinduism. It is undoubtedly a must-visit destination in Srinagar.

An oldest temple, way back to 2000 BCE, of Srinagar where a beautiful "JYESHTESWARA" temple is situated and Dhyan sthal of Sri Adishankaracharya of 8th century. One should visit and enjoy the holy place.
Ravi K — Google review
This temple is situated on the Hill. You will find lot of people visiting to this place. Security is available through out and will keep the count on the vehicle going up with number of people. Might be you have to walk approximately for 400 meters since so many vehicles are there. On reaching to the temple you get the security check plus need to climb approximately 250 stairs to reach the temple but it's worth to reach and see the oldest temple and the 360 degree view of Srinagar
Vitthal — Google review
Holiest place atop on of the highest points in Srinagar. 250 steps of which last few a very steep, not for the aged. From 320 BCE, the oldest temple around.
Sougata P — Google review
The temple is situated on top of the Shankaracharya Hill, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the picturesque Dal Lake, the snow-capped peaks of the Pir Panjal range, and the entire city of Srinagar. The temple's location on the hill adds to its spiritual significance and provides a serene and tranquil atmosphere for devotees and visitors.

Shalimar Garden Shalimar Bagh is a Mughal garden in Srinagar, linked through a channel to the northeast of Dal Lake, on its right bank located on the outskirts of Srinagar city in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Its other names are Shalimar Garden, Shalimar Bagh, Farah Baksh and Faiz Baksh, and the other famous shore line garden in the vicinity is Nishat Bagh. The Bagh was built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Noor Jahan, in 1619. The Bagh is considered the high point of Mughal horticulture. It is now a public park. This time it’s also called as crown of Srinagar. History Emperor Jahangir built his celebrated Shalimar Bagh, his dream project to please his queen. He enlarged the ancient garden in 1619 into a royal garden and called it ‘Farah Baksh’ (‘the delightful’). He built it for his wife Nur Jahan (‘light of the world’). In 1630, under Emperor Shah Jahan’s orders, Zafar Khan the governor of Kashmir extended it. He named it ‘Faiz Baksh’ (‘the bountiful’). It then became a pleasure place for the Pathan and Sikh governors who followed Zafar Khan. During the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh the marble pavilion was the guest house for European visitors. Electrification of the premises was done during Maharaja Hari Singh’s rule. Thus, over the years, the garden was extended and improved by many rulers and called by different names, but the most popular name ‘Shalimar Bagh’ continues to this day. During the Mughal period in particular, Emperor Jahangir and his wife Nur Jahan were so enamoured of Kashmir that during summer they moved to Srinagar with their full court entourage from Delhi at least 13 times. Shalimar Bagh was their imperial summer residence and the Royal Court. They crossed the arduous snowy passes of the Pir Panjal mountain range on elephants to reach Srinagar Layout The layout of the garden is an adaptation of another Islamic garden layout known as the Persian gardens. This garden built on a flat land on a square plan with four radiating arms from a central location as the water source. It needed to be modified to suit the hilly terrain and availability of a well, which could be diverted from a higher elevation to the planned gardens. Modifications involved the main channel running through the garden axially from top to the lowest point. This central channel, known as the Shah Nahar, is the main axis of the garden. It runs through three terraces. This layout left out the radial arms and the shape became rectangular, instead of a square plan of the Chahar Bagh. The garden, as finally laid out, covers an area of 12.4 hectares (31 acres) built with a size of 587 metres (1,926 ft) length on the main axis channel and with a total width of 251 metres (823 ft). The garden has three terraces fitted with fountains and with chinar (sycamore) tree-lined vistas. The Shahnahar is the main feeder channel to all the terraces. Each one of the three terraces has a specific role. The garden was linked to the open Dal Lake water through a canal of about 1 mile (1.6 km) length and 12 yards (11 m) in width that ran through swampy quagmire. Willow groves and rice terraces fringed the lake edge. Broad green paths bordered the lake with rows of chinar trees. The garden was laid in trellised walkways lined by avenues of aspen trees planted at 2 feet (0.61 m) interval. Visit early morning

Dal Lake, known as the "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir," is an urban lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Surrounded by the majestic Pir Panjal mountains and lush Mughal gardens, the lake is a hub of vibrant local life and a top destination for tourist Key features: Shikara rides: A ride in one of the lake's iconic gondola-like wooden taxi boats is one of the most popular activities. Shikaras ferry people to houseboats and landmarks and serve as floating shops selling flowers, handicrafts, and vegetables. Houseboats: Staying on a traditional houseboat is a unique and sought-after experience. These elaborately carved wooden boats, many with luxurious amenities, originated during the British Raj, when foreigners were forbidden from owning land in Kashmir. Floating gardens and markets: Locally known as "Rad" in Kashmiri, floating gardens are crafted from interwoven vegetation and earth, and are used to grow crops like lotus flowers, melons, and vegetables. Early in the morning, vendors assemble in their shikaras for a floating market to sell their fresh produce. Char Chinar Island: This small, picturesque island on the lake is a famous landmark, named for the four Chinar trees planted at its corners. Mughal Gardens: Several historic Mughal-era gardens, including Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, line the eastern side of the lake. They offer stunning landscapes with terraced lawns, fountains, and flowerbeds.

Stayed one night on a houseboat in Srinagar and absolutely loved it. Waking up to the calm of Dal Lake with shikaras gliding past was unforgettable. Our hosts were warm and attentive, and the people around the lake were wonderful. The floating vendors—fresh vegetables, flowers, antiques—were a real highlight and never pushy. Meena Bazaar felt genuinely authentic, with quality items at fair prices. Everything felt safe, clean, and beautifully looked after. If you’re considering a houseboat stay, go for it—one night wasn’t enough. Highly recommended!

The Tulip Garden Srinagar, also known as the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, is a vast expanse of colorful blooms featuring 68 varieties of tulips and other flowers. Situated at the foothills of Zabarwan Mountain in Sirajbagh, Chashmashahi, this garden sprawls over 29.6 acres and is recognized as Asia's largest tulip garden.
Tulip Garden opens up from late March and extends upto late April until the Tulips wave in blooms. With an entry fee of Rs 75/person, this heavenly garden, is a soothing treat to the eyes. It will take about 2-3 hrs for a full tour of the garden. There are fountains and blossoms everywhere, reverberating a happy vibe over the valley. There is a market outside the garden, which I found very pocket friendly and I took all the gift items from there itself. There is a botanical garden nearby this place.
Reshma P — Google review
Tulip Garden is located adjacent the Botanical Garden. The garden is planned in line with the Mughal gardens in terms of the layout of pathways with water channels, cascades and fountains. The garden opens in March when the Tulips bloom - a mesmerizing spectacle of nature to behold - in all possible colours and hues. Not only tulips, there are flowering plants of various other species as well. Beautifully manicured lawns and decorated flower beds arranged in various shapes abound. Located at foothills of the Zabarwan range, the garden is terraced in two or three levels - not as steep as the Chasme Shahi. Entry fee is Rs.75/person. Parking is about half a kilometre away... common for both the Tulip and the Botanical gardens.

Tulip Garden in Srinagar is truly a visual masterpiece and one of the most breathtaking attractions in Kashmir. Spread across the foothills of the Zabarwan Range overlooking the serene Dal Lake, this garden feels like walking into a living painting. I visited during the annual Tulip Festival, and it was nothing short of magical. Rows upon rows of tulips in every imaginable color—crimson red, sunshine yellow, lavender, pink, and even rare black tulips—stretch as far as the eye can see. The garden is immaculately maintained and beautifully laid out in terraces, each offering a unique palette of blooms. The backdrop of snow-capped mountains and the cool spring breeze make the experience even more surreal. You can easily spend hours wandering the paths, taking photos, and soaking in the natural beauty. Every corner looks like it was designed for a postcard! There are plenty of resting spots, refreshment stalls, and local handicraft counters around. The place is quite family-friendly, with clean walkways and seating areas. However, it’s best to wear comfortable shoes since the garden covers a large area and involves a fair bit of walking. The best time to visit is between late March and mid-April, when the tulips are in full bloom. The timing can vary slightly each year depending on the weather, so checking the festival dates in advance is a good idea. Early morning visits are particularly rewarding—the light is perfect for photography, and the crowds are thinner. The entry fee is reasonable, and parking facilities are adequate. The security and staff are courteous and helpful, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone. The view of Dal Lake and the distant Pir Panjal range from the upper terraces is simply unforgettable. Overall, the Tulip Garden is not just a tourist attraction—it’s an experience that captures the essence of Kashmir’s springtime charm. Whether you’re a nature lover, a photographer, or just someone looking for peace and color, this place will leave you mesmerized. Truly deserving of its title as Asia’s largest tulip garden and one of the crown jewels of Kashmir tourism. 🌷

Strolling through the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden feels like walking into a rainbow — millions of tulips in reds, pinks, purples, yellows and whites stretch across terraced slopes, with the majestic Zabarwan hills and serene Dal Lake as the backdrop. The hues, fragrance and gentle breeze together make it one of the most magical floral experiences. ✨ Why I loved it: • Asia’s largest tulip garden — absolutely massive and full of vivid colors. • Diverse flowers beyond tulips — daffodils, hyacinths and more, adding extra charm. • Picture-perfect for sunrise or sunset strolls — the golden light + blooms = pure magic. • Great for nature lovers, couples, families and photographers alike. 🙏 Tip: Visit during peak bloom (typically late March to mid April) — that’s when the garden truly blossoms into a kaleidoscope of colors. #TulipGarden #SrinagarDiaries #SpringInKashmir #NatureLovers #TravelGram #IncredibleIndia

It is fed by glaciers, precipitation, and springs, and its water outflows into the nearby Nundkol Lake and then into the Sind River. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, lush green meadows, and dense pine forests.

It is one of the best places I have hiked and visited. You hike all the way 20km out of which 6km are up way hiking on a mountain range and then 14km through the woods of the consecutive mountain ranges to reach a destination you will generally have your camp base. Then you go further 4.25km or so to reach two of the most exotic, serene and pure lakes in the Kashmir valley. This place is a hidden place in Kashmir and guide person or tour tour package dealer won't tell you about it cause you will have to spare at least 2 days here but believe me it is one of the places worth visiting once.

Chashme Shahi Garden, also known as "the royal spring" in Urdu, is a picturesque Mughal garden located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. Nestled amidst the stunning Zabarwan Mountain range, this three-terraced garden showcases Persian-influenced architecture and features natural spring water flowing through its landscaped terraces.
We had a very enjoyable experience at the garden, from what we could see they were generally well maintained. Although it was cloudy on the day so the views were not as good as they would normally be,it still looked beautiful in the misty weather. It being a Monday there were only a few visitors so it felt peaceful and serene.

Chashme Shahi is one of the beautiful Mughal gardens in Srinagar, famous for its natural spring. The fresh water here tastes amazing! 💧 Surrounded by greenery and Mughal-style design, it’s a peaceful and refreshing place to visit. Not too big but very charming, perfect for a short stop to enjoy nature and the cool spring water. A nice spot that adds to the charm of Srinagar’s gardens

The smallest of the three Mughal gardens of Srinagar, the Chasme Shahi is nestled in the Northern slopes of the Zabarwan range, up from the right bank of the Dal. The garden was constructed around an ancient spring with supposed medicinal properties, by Shah Jahan for his eldest son Dara Shikoh. The garden is laid in the 'chahar bagh' layout, beautifully terraced across the hills. The spring housed within a beautiful Mughal pavilion is the center piece, from where channels symmetrically divide the garden into parts. Pathways on either side of the channel lead one from the entrance gateway up to the pavilion. Trees of various species abound, with flowering plants arranged in beds. Tickets can be bought from near the entrance. Parking space outside the garden, is limited. *Tips: There are 3-4 stores near the entrance of the garden, selling local souvenirs, collectibles, etc. Although they are fixed price shops, their prices are very reasonable and fair (compared to similar shops lining the Dal Boulevard).

• Natural spring water flows directly from the mountain into the garden — this is the origin of its name (“Royal Spring”). People drink from this spring — locals believe the water is pure and medicinal. • Terraced Mughal design — 3 levels of garden going up the hillside. As you climb each terrace, the view gets better. • Best view of Dal Lake from the upper terrace — excellent for photography. • Peaceful atmosphere compared to other Mughal gardens. Chashme Shahi doesn’t feel chaotic — it feels like a quiet royal retreat. Best Time to Visit • Morning: 9am – 11am Fresh light, fresh water, minimal crowd. • Sunset Hour: for photography (mountains + lake glow nicely)

Chasme shahi garden is a charming mughal garden. It is relatively small garden which one can cover within one hour. It is located on foothills of Zabarwan mountains & offers unobstructed views of mountains. It hosts the famous chinar trees. Few benches are provided to rest and admire the view of mountains. It has flower gardens which is quite a sight in April to June. Even in off season few flowers are present. A peaceful garden & good for photoshoot. In all gardens, you can take photo with kashmiri traditional dress & price is fixed as per JK tourism department. Many people will come to ask you to shoot reels. If you are not interested, it is really disturbing as they will ask all over the time.

Gadsar Lake, also known as Yemsar Lake, is a stunning high-altitude lake located in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir, approximately 28 km from Sonamarg. Situated at an elevation of 3600 m above sea level, it offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and is surrounded by alpine wildflowers. The lake is seasonal and forms when the snow melts, making the best time to visit between June and September.
Gadsar Lake is a true reward for those who make the challenging trek. It's about 37 km from the Shitkadi base camp and 14 km from Vishansar camping site. The climb up to Gadsar Pass, which stands at an impressive 4,200 meters above sea level, is tough both going up and down. But once you've conquered the pass, the trail to Gadsar Lake is a breeze—flat, easy, and surrounded by a stunning landscape of flowers and scenic beauty. After clearing Gadsar Pass, you'll come across a few smaller lakes like Yamsar and Arsar on your way. These serene, lesser-known lakes add to the charm of the journey, offering peaceful spots to pause and take in the views.Gadsar Lake itself is breathtaking, with a massive glacier towering above it and fragments of ice floating on its surface. There are many myths surrounding Gadsar Lake, with some saying it's a bit terrifying, but I found it to be a place of incredible beauty and serenity.Although you camp quite a distance from Gadsar, it's worth dedicating at least two to three hours to fully take in the views. The experience is nothing short of magical, and the peaceful atmosphere will stay with you long after you leave.

The Gadsar Lake is also called Yemsar lake. It is also an alpine high altitude lake. It’s part of the Great lakes trek of Kashmir. Gadsar in Kashmiri means the lake of fishes, a natural habitat of trout and other types of fishes. The lake freezes during winter season and will mostly be covered by snow. This melts during the summer season and we can find floating icebergs during June and July. Gadsar lake is surrounded by alpine meadows full of various kinds of wild alpine flowers, like that in valley of flowers, Uttarakhand. Therefore the lake is also known as the valley of flowers. The lake is mainly fed by melting of glaciers in the nearby mountains. There are a number of streams near Gadsar lake which joins together when the glaciers melt completely and flow towards the Kishanganga lake. There is a myth revolving The Gadsar Lake. It is called Yemsar lake or the lake of Yama, The God of Death. Gujjars/nomadic ethnic groups of Kashmir (shepherds who bring their flocks of sheep and herd of horses to these greeny meadows during summer season) who graze their flocks in and around the area of Gadsar lake believe that there is a Lake Monster, a freshwater Octopus in the lake which drags their flocks by its tentacles into the water. During the KGL trek, we had lunch by one of the streams before the Gadsar lake where fishes could be spotted.
Aleena P — Google review
Just like every other lake the water is very clear. You can go down to the lake. Apart from the normal route which goes from on side of the lake, you can cross the river and go the left from the main route at the start of the lake to see you he glacier more closely. The lake is filled by glacier ice water as well as an incoming stream from previous glaciers which are visible from gadsar pass. The outlet of this lake goes till your next camp site.

💝The Gadsar Lake is a high altitude oligotrophic Lake which resides at an elevation of 3,600m in Soanmarg of Ganderbal in Kashmir Valley. 💝It contains a little rare aquatic life forms and almost no vegetation due to which it possesses dark green to greenish bluish crystal waters throughout the year. 💝This Lake is mainly filled up by melting of glaciers present on the mountains in its backdrop. It outflows towards the North West through a stream and joins Neelum river at Tulail Valley in Gurez Valley of Kashmir Valley. 💝Gadsar in Kashmiri means the Lake of Fishes as it acts as a natural habitat of trout and other distinct types of fishes among which is the rare Brown Trout. 💝Gadsar Lake is enclosed by Alpine Meadows filled with numerous varities of Vibrantly coloured distinctive wild Alpine Flowers and vegetation due to which it is also known as The Valley of Flowers. 💝An unresolved myth/legend is closely linked with the Gadsar Lake. Shepherds grazing their flocks of sheeps in the outskirts of Gadsar Lake during summers strongly believe that a Lake Monster that is a freshwater Octopus resides in the Lake which drags the living creatures from shores by its tentacles into the water. This myth has culminated in the development of an uncertainty in the minds of many visitors especially a strong threat or fear which prevents them from going near to its shores. Besides this, the Fishes are being caught outside the Lake in a stream from which it flows out. 💝This myth allots a brand new name/title to Gadsar Lake, first Yemsar which means the Lake of Yama(Yamaraja : A Deity of Death)and second The Lake of Death.

- Visited in Aug, 2023 as a part of my KGL trek, during 12-19 Aug. Gadsar Lake is the 3rd alpine lake you will say hi during the trek from Vishansar to Gadsar. This place is a total jackpot for nature lovers. After getting down from the top hill, the trek was downhill to this shiny lake surrounded by flowers, meadows and hills is like a scene from a movie. Truly amazing views and peaceful place. I’m really happy I went there!

Absolutely stunning lake with a glacier backdrop and meadows in the foreground. The pristine lake with flowers around it makes a magnificent view.

Even thousand words can't justify the beauty of this tiny precious lake. After 4 days of hiking in the region, we got mesmerized and touched deeply by this natural wonder. Gadsar lake welcomes you with lush sea green colour with plenty of flowers in the vicinity. All of it is worth it after 4000m pass. Planning to visit again. 👍 -August 2017

Undoubtedly the real, "Heaven on earth" feeling after visiting Kashmir. No words to describe the lake. Only my pathetic attempts to capture the beauty in camera. It's a shame we couldn't camp here, but understandable given the stupidity of people littering all around the trails. If I'd ever go back to Ganderbaal, it would be here.

Avanti Swami Temple Ruins is a fascinating site that showcases the architectural brilliance of ancient times. Though in ruins, the temple still reflects its historical and cultural significance. The intricate carvings and remnants of its grand structure offer a glimpse into the craftsmanship of a bygone era. As the name suggests, the temple is not in its original shape, with much of it now in ruins. However, the remains still hold a certain charm, making it a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts. The peaceful surroundings add to the experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the heritage and imagine its former grandeur. While it may not be a fully intact temple, Avanti Swami Temple Ruins remain a testament to Kashmir’s rich history. It’s a great place for those interested in ancient architecture, photography, or simply exploring offbeat historical sites.

Visited the Avanti Swami Temple Ruins in Awantipora, and it’s a fascinating glimpse into Kashmir’s ancient history! The 9th-century ruins, built by King Avantivarman, are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Shiva, showcasing intricate Kashmiri architecture with detailed stone carvings. The site, maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, is serene, with well-kept gardens and the Jhelum River nearby, adding to the ambiance. The ruins are smaller than expected but still impressive, especially the sculptured reliefs and the layout resembling the Martand Sun Temple. A local guide helped bring the history alive, though some guides could be more informative. It’s a great stop en route from Srinagar to Pahalgam, just 30 km from Srinagar. Entry is affordable (₹10), and the site is open 9 AM to 5 PM. Perfect for history buffs and photographers, but more signage would enhance the experience. Highly recommend a quick visit!

Avantiswami Temple, Avantipura – A Hidden Gem of Ancient Kashmir Avantiswami Temple is a truly mesmerizing historical site located in Avantipura, just off the Srinagar-Pahalgam highway. This ancient temple, built by King Avantivarman in the 9th century, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and reflects the rich architectural and cultural heritage of Kashmir. Though the temple is now in ruins, the beautifully carved stones, intricate sculptures, and the layout of the temple complex still leave you in awe. It offers a peaceful and scenic environment surrounded by greenery and the backdrop of the majestic mountains. Photography lovers and history buffs will find this place especially captivating. The temple is easy to access and not very crowded, which adds to the charm. It’s a wonderful spot for those who enjoy exploring offbeat and lesser-known heritage sites. There is also the nearby Avantiswara temple (dedicated to Lord Shiva), making Avantipura a spiritually and historically significant stop. Highly recommended for anyone traveling towards Pahalgam – it's a short visit, but a memorable one!

No entrance fee to be paid here. Quite heartbreaking looking at the ruins. The temple existed more than 1000 years back. Was located next to Jhelum river once upon a time. The Muslim invaders demolished the temple. Even natural calamities played its part. The erstwhile temple & now ruins is surrounded by gardens. Can only imagine its natural beauty when it existed. Worth visiting en route to Pahalgam

The trek to Tarsar Lake is considered one of the best in India, providing a sense of accomplishment and stunning scenery. A very picturesque location in Kashmir. This was through a trek organized by India Hikes. The Tarsar Lake is at an altitude of 12000 feet and the reflection observed in the look on a nice sunny day is awesome. The turquoise blue color of the lake makes it all the more beautiful.

Tarsar Lake in Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The trek to reach it is a bit tough, but totally worth it. The blue water, green meadows, and peaceful silence all around make you feel like you’re in a dream. At night, the stars above the lake are magical. The path is not too crowded, so you really get to enjoy nature. If you love mountains, camping, and quiet places, you’ll love this. I’ll always remember how calm and happy I felt there. A hidden gem for nature lovers and trekkers!

The way to this beautiful lake is from the Aru valley. It is part of the twin lake treks of Tarsar Marsar Lake, Royal Basmai Lake, Kolhai Mount combination.. Had been on a 15 day trek to Tarsar Marsar,. This is an ideal trek  for beginners . If weather supports you, then the scenery all along the way is spectacular. Tarsar lake will take your breath away. It is awesome. It is pristine. It is blue....oh so blue. Felt so alive being there. Would love to go again.

Keep aside all these photos and reviews, when you actually see the lake all of this will not justify the beauty of this lake. On trek day 3 we reached here to witness the most beautiful lake with beautiful mountain ranges, vast meadows and beautiful kashmiri people. You can’t resist this place, with each passing time you want more of it. Relax yourself by jus sitting lake side. Explore going around it. Its a 2 km lake. Each side show you a different angle. One with snow peak mountain far way. One mountain for marsar lake another for sundarsar. Climb the top for to see its beauty.

No matter how beautifully you capture the photos of this lake, none of them will do justice to the real beauty. The almond-shaped lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Himalayan region. We were a group of 10 friends from Kashmir University South Campus MSc. Mathematics batch 2019. We started our three day trek on Saturday September 18 2021 from Aru Pahalgam, it took us 2½ hours to reach lidderwath and we set up our camps there. Next day on 19 September we started further trekking at 7 am from lidderwath and reached this beautiful lake at 11am. After eating some food we decided to trek further to the top to get the whole view of Tarsar lake and some views of Marsar lake. It took us 1 hour and 10 minutes to the top and after reaching there we took some photographs. Surprisingly some mobile phones got the signal in Jio and we made few calls to our family and close ones. We'd to reach back to lidderwath so we started to decend, it took us half an hour to reach back to Tarsar camping site and extra 3 hours to the lidderwath camping site. It was and amazing and memorable, we were not equipped with useful trekking equipments and enough food. But all the boys pushed themselves beyond limit and we made the whole trek from lidderwath to Tarsar top and back within 10 hours. I would like to mention the names of my friends who were the part of this trek. Asif Ahmad, Umar Shah, Parvaiz Koli(the most energetic and active person), Majid Shahzad, Samiullah (Sameer), Aabid Ahmad, Aijaz Ahmad ( ist among all to reach Tarsar 30 minutes before), Towkeer Gani Rather, Nisar Ahmad & me ( Shoaib Muzaffer). I'll miss you all guys. Hope to se you on another trek next year.

Top Things to Do at Tarsar Lake PhotographySightseeingCampingSpotting a variety of birdsTrekking Best Time to Visit Tarsar Lake July to September is the best time to visit Tarsar Lake. How to Reach Tarsar Lake? To reach Tarsar Lake, you will have to take a trek whose route starts from Aru Valley, continues to Lidderwat Valley and crosses Shekhawas Mountains before coming to an end at the lake. About Tarsar Lake in Pahalgam, Kashmir Tarsar Lake, located in Aru in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, is surrounded by meadows dotted with conifer trees, mountains and gorgeous views of snowcapped peaks. It is separated from its sister lake, Marsar, by a mountain with a peak elevation of 4000 meters. An interesting fact about the lake is that it changes its colours throughout the day, depending on the sun’s angle during sunrise & sunset. The lake can only be visited during the summer, which is great because you get to spot a variety of birds like black bulbul, bar-headed geese, high-flying coughs and Himalayan golden eagles. You can also enjoy its absolutely peaceful environment & enchanting beauty.

Tarsar and Marsar lakes are called twin sister's according to a mythology. This place is famous among hikers and trekkers. The trek originates from Aru Valley in Pahalgam and the base camp for this trek is lidderwat that is some 12kms or 3 and a half hours walk from Aru. In Day 2 you can hike till sekwaas and camp there. And finally on day 3 you will be able to see Tarsar lake. One can cross over the ridge to find the Marsar lake. If weather permits one can also explore the sonsar lake that is around the corner and can trek via zajmarg valley back to sekwaas. This place offers extreme locations and breath taking beauty.
Sajad N — Google review
The Tarsar Lake is dominated by the peaks of the Kolahoi mountain some 20 km to the east. The lake is separated by a mountain with a minimum peak elevation of 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) from another lake of the same nature known as Marsar Lake, which is in the vicinity of Dachigam National Park Together these two lakes are referred to as the twin sisters The 16th-century Kashmiri ruler Yusuf Shah Chak mentioned the twin lakes in his poetry, writing to his beloved: When I remember the two tresses of the comely beloved, Tears begin to flow from my eyes like streams from Tarsar and Marsar The Tarsar Lake is drained by an outlet stream which falls into the Lidder River at Lidderwat, 15 km to the east. Being the nearest seasonal settlement, Lidderwat is located on the trek route to the lake from Aru, Pahalgam. The Marsar Lake on the other hand drains out and flows in the opposite direction of the Tarsar Lake During the winter, the Tarsar Lake freezes and is covered by heavy snow; it has floating ice even in the summer. The basin of the lake is surrounded by a sheet of alpine flowers. The geum, blue poppy, potentilla and gentian are relatively common. Hedysarum flowers are found in late spring throughout the area around the lake During summer there are breeding colonies of migratory birds, including bar-headed geese, lammergeyers, high-flying choughs, Himalayan golden eagles, cinnamon sparrows and black bulbuls. The basin of Tarsar and the adjoining Dachigam National Park constitute one of the most important habitats of the Kashmir stag (hangul), ibex, musk deer, snow leopard, Himalayan brown bear and in the higher reaches, the golden marmot.

Thajiwas Glacier is a must-see destination in Sonamarg, Kashmir. It's a stunning snow glacier that offers breathtaking views and an unforgettable experience. However, visitors should be cautious of locals running ice scooters who may overcharge for their services. Additionally, local taxi operators may demand high prices for short distances, so it's advisable to negotiate and consider walking to fully enjoy the beauty of the area.
Sonmarg, often referred to as the "Meadow of Gold," is another must-visit destination in Kashmir. Similar to Gulmarg, this enchanting place offers snow-covered landscapes throughout the year, making it a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. A visit to the Thajiwas Glacier is a highlight of Sonmarg. To reach the glacier, you can take a pony ride, which adds a touch of adventure to the journey. Alternatively, union cabs are available to take you to various scenic points. During our visit, we opted for the pony ride to the glacier, and it was an unforgettable experience. The sight of the pristine snow and the thrill of being surrounded by such natural beauty made it truly magical. For those seeking more fun, there are sledges available, where locals will drag you up the snowy slopes for an exhilarating ride down. Additionally, skiing and other snow activities are offered, ensuring there's something for everyone. We spent a delightful half-day here, from the afternoon until late evening, enjoying the activities and the serene ambiance. Sonmarg also has plenty of food stalls where you can savor local delicacies, including the famous Kashmiri Qahwa, a warm and aromatic tea that's perfect for the chilly weather. However, it's important to note that if you're planning to buy dry fruits or saffron, it's best to purchase them from Pampore, Pahelgam known for its authenticity and quality. A practical tip: Make sure to rent snow boots, as regular shoes won't suffice in the cold and snowy conditions. This destination is perfect for families, offering a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural experiences. Our family had an amazing time here, and it's a place we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kashmir.

Horse rides are available, however you can also trek to this place. The glacier is about 5km from the highway and it’s an easy trek (depends if you’re active or mostly sedentary). Do visit, sit there for a moment and embrace the tranquil landscape! Note: Please do not litter. Respect nature and the locals! Make sure you carry all waste that you generate with you and dispose it properly in a dustbin! Be a responsible traveler!

With snow around it gives a different feeling. Visiting in the mid of the March is probably the best time. Amazing place, natures beauty at its best. The mountain the snow its really beautiful even the road that you travel in order to reach the destination is lovely. The only difficult part you have to get the pony’s to reach the glacier point and sometimes people scam by charging more for tourist, better bargain and ensure you get a good rate. Overall it’s a must visit place. Pictures shows the destination and the scenery on the way

Thajiwas Glacier in Sonmarg is stunning, with snow-capped peaks and streams that make it feel magical. You can easily reach by walking, no need for snow bikes or ponies. Beware of scams as many locals push for costly rides. Walking is peaceful, safe, and lets you enjoy the natural beauty at your own pace.
Alex T — Google review
It is a very easy hike along the valley. You can easily walk upto the pony shed, which you find on Google maps. Start at around 9 or before to beat the tourist crowd. It is a very picturesque valley. Locals do not advise walking beyond the pony shed, because of the bears in the area. However it is perfectly safe upto this point, and you have a well laid path as well. There's also a village on the way, so you aren't completely alone. Pony riders will try and convince you otherwise, do not fall for it, unless you really want to ride a pony. Fall season is a perfect time to visit (late october) it is not too cold, peaks have snow on them, and there's little crowd.

Beautiful garden but needs better care... Achabal Garden is a truly beautiful and historic place, with lovely natural surroundings and flowing springs. However, the water is very dirty and the garden as a whole needs proper care and maintenance. Visitors also tend to litter.. especially with plastic, which spoils the charm of the garden. Strict laws and better upkeep are needed to preserve its beauty.

Spend ur last day of Pahalgam by visiting here. U will love the place. Calm yet lively. Natural and beautiful. The loudness of water streams makes stones of the park alive. It’s not the noise of water but the voice of the garden. Garden made in 4 steps as represents Mughal architecture. Waterways devide the entire garden very sophistically. Best thing is that u will not find any tourist here. Most of the locals visit this place. Waterways have swift water flow so be careful for ur children and for urself. Achabal Garden is one of the most beautiful Mughal gardens in Kashmir. The terraced layout, flowing spring water, and huge chinar trees make it a peaceful and refreshing place to visit. It’s less crowded compared to other gardens, so you can really enjoy the calm atmosphere. The water channels and fountains are soothing, and the garden looks especially magical in autumn when the chinars turn golden. Entry is reasonable, but maintenance could be improved in some areas (especially dustbins). Overall, a must-visit spot near Anantnag for history lovers, families, and photographers.
Ansars P — Google review
Origins & Architecture Built around 1620 AD by Empress Nur Jahan, later remodeled by Jahanara Begum between 1634–1640, Achabal follows the classic Persian Charbagh layout adapted to its hillside topography. Originally spanning multiple terraces, today it comprises three levels, with water cascading from an underground spring atop the hill through engraved water ramps known as chadars, creating beautiful water features and fountains. Sacred Spring The garden is nourished by an underground spring, believed to be a re-emergence of the Brengi River, which vanishes in Dewalgam and resurfaces here, a unique hydrological phenomenon. Early visitors tested this by releasing chaff at the disappearance point, which reappeared in the garden’s spring. Described as issuing “with violence, as if from the bottom of some well,” its cold, abundant water formed a majestic waterfall and sheet cascade in the central terrace. Restorations & Public Access After falling into decay, the Garden was partially revived in the 19th century by Maharaja Gulab Singh during the Dogra era; today it operates as a public garden offering historical ambience and scenic beauty. --- 🌳 Design & Features Terraces & Water Channels The garden is laid out on three terraces. A central axial stream with fountain basins cuts through them, flanked by side channels and chadars that connect levels with water flowing over decorated stone ramps. Architectural Highlights Includes baradari-style pavilions, a two-story balahdari that straddles the central pool, and ruins of a Mughal-era hammam (warm water bath). A mosque attributed to Prince Dara Shikoh also stands within the premises. Natural Elements Ancient Chinar and deodar trees, manicured flower beds, and seasonal blooms (roses, marigolds, tulips) enhance the garden’s charm—particularly stunning in spring, summer, and autumn

We had a wonderful time at Achabal Mughal Garden. It was a peaceful and refreshing experience with my family. The flowing springs, ancient chinar trees, and well-kept terraces created a serene and royal atmosphere. It truly felt like stepping back into history. A perfect place for a relaxing day out!

I did Surmarg day trek with Endless Tours and Travels. Shaban is a true adventurist at heart. We did this trek in April 2025. Since there was a rain prediction, I was a little sceptical if I should do it or not. Shaban encouraged me to do it. He said "You don't know when you will be back in Kashmir. Don't worry too much about the rain. I will get rain coats and walking sticks for you. Make sure you finish the entire trek". I am so glad that I listened to him and went on the trek. It had turned out be a memorable experience. Both Shaban and Asif (our trek guide) are more concerned about the guests enjoying the trek than about the money. In my head, I am already thinking and making plans for my next trek with them - this time probably an overnight trek. Hopefully, I will do it very soon. I totally recommend them if you are planning to visit Kashmir and particularly Pahalgam. P.S. They also encourage keeping the nature clean. We also picked up some trash while returning with encouragement and help from Asif.

I was initially skeptical about planning my first-ever solo trip to Pahalgam, as I was seeking some peaceful time amidst mountains and snow. I knew Pahalgam was renowned for its natural beauty and trekking opportunities. After reading reviews about Asif and his family's hospitality, I decided to book accommodation at their hotel and experience trekking based on their recommendations. I must say that trekking in Pahalgam was an exceptional experience, thanks to Asif and Shaban's professionalism, experience, and friendliness. On my first day in Pahalgam, Shaban guided me on an adventurous trek that showcased some breathtaking spots atop the mountain. The next day, Asif led me on the Betaab Valley hike, an unmissable experience. I also had the opportunity to explore off-beaten paths, encountering a serene lake, majestic pine trees, and enchanting white landscapes. Overall, my visit was delightful, and I highly recommend Asif and his family for your upcoming trip to Pahalgam.

We went on a 10-day trip in Kashmir with Irfan and Asif. Kashmir is a beautiful place itself, no matter what. We were happy that Asif came along with us in the trekking in Pahalgam, brought good homecook lunchies, supportive and helpful. Accommodations were messed up, activities might be changed without informing us. We had quite good times in Kashmir but their operation for touring should be improved and just okay-ish somehow. Even Shaban came to greet us and tried to make it up for things that happened during those days but the experience was just something in between 3-4/5 rate.

I recently went on the Surmarg Hike organized by Endless travels, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Mr. Shaban personally picked us up from our hotel, which made the whole process smooth and convenient. Our tour guide, Asif, was exceptional—friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive throughout the hike. He made sure we felt comfortable and safe, while also sharing interesting insights about the trail and the surrounding nature. The Surmarg Hike itself was breathtaking, offering stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere away from the crowds. I highly recommend this experience, just request people to not litter as we collected three bags of garbage on our way back.

We wanted to be away from rush and crowd at Pahalgam. I found Shaban's Endless Tour and Travel website and called him up. The next day, his son, Asif came over and we (myself, my wife, and my 6y old son) had a great 6hr trek to Surmarg. Asif brought home cooked delicious food. We were the only ones on the trail and it was very scenic. We hit a beautiful meadow on the top. Most recommended.

We, a family of 3, went for a day hike to Sudmargi in 3rd week of April 2023 with Shaban Lone. He drove us in his car from our hotel to the starting point of our trek, which lies on the Aru Valley route. He then gave each of us a sturdy trekking stick. It took us around a couple of hours to get to the top, taking the photos all along. We also stopped at points up the hill for a few minutes to mesmerise the breathtaking sceneries filled with the greenery, the valleys, the river, the streams, the white shining snow-capped mountains, the white fluffy clouds and a little bit of blue sky. At the peak, he served us hot, refreshing Kahwa. On our mid-way of descent, he provided us with delicious home-cooked food. The total trek time was around 5-6 hours and was of a moderate level of difficulty. The next day we had a short trek to Manipal with Shabhan’s son Asif. It was through Pine trees crossing the Lidder River and streams over the wooden bridge, a herd of sheep grazing in green meadows surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Both places are truly offbeat destinations, as we were the only people there, although it was the peak season. Nothing could have been better than that. Shabhan and Asif were very professional and friendly throughout the trek. They make you feel part of their family. I highly recommend Endless Tours and Travels to anyone looking for offbeat destinations in and around Pahalgam.

Had a great experience from start to end. Shaban was very humble and the booking process was seamless. We did Surmarg Trek, beautiful view all around. Our Trek guide was Asif, he was very patient with us, clicked lot of nice pics. Special mention about the home cooked lunch that was carried, it was head and shoulders better than what I had imagined, both in terms of variety and taste. It was better than food offered by few of the 4 star hotels I have stayed in during my Kashmir trip.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing an unforgettable hike to Surmarg with Endless Tours and Travels, led by the remarkable guide, Mr. Shaban, based in Pahalgam. I must say, it was a truly great experience from start to finish. Mr. Shaban's knowledge and expertise were evident from the moment we embarked on our hike. He had an incredible understanding of the region, and his familiarity with the hike routes was truly impressive. What stood out the most was the fact that he offered offbeat treks away from the usual touristy places. It was refreshing to explore lesser-known trails that only a few people are aware of. The hike to Surmarg was an absolute delight. The natural beauty of the surroundings was breathtaking, and Mr. Shaban's guidance added an extra layer of excitement and depth to the experience. His attention to detail and ability to create a seamless itinerary made the trip even more enjoyable. A Slice of Heaven on Earth – Betaab Valley, Pahalgam Betaab Valley, also known as Hajan Valley, is truly one of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited. Nestled between the snow-capped mountains and lush pine forests, this valley is a perfect blend of natural beauty, serenity, and cinematic charm. It's no wonder it was named after the Bollywood film Betaab that was shot here. The crystal-clear Lidder River flowing through the valley adds a magical touch to the already stunning landscape. The green meadows, surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, create a picture-perfect view that feels straight out of a fairy tale. Whether you're a nature lover, photography enthusiast, or simply looking for peace, this place will not disappoint. There are plenty of open spaces for children to play, couples to relax, and families to picnic. Horse riding and traditional Kashmiri attire photoshoots add a fun and cultural vibe to the visit. Accessibility is good, and the area is well-maintained by local authorities. The fresh air, the sound of the flowing river, and the panoramic views make it an unforgettable experience. A must-visit spot if you are in or around Pahalgam!

Barwalla Waterfall is a visually striking spot located near the Summal Power Grid in Kangan. However, it's important to understand that this is not a natural waterfall—it is actually the overflow from the power grid, which can be extremely dangerous. The area has witnessed sudden surges of water, especially during peak flow or rainfall, and people have been trapped in the waterfall zone during such incidents. Despite its beauty, entering the waterfall or trying to get too close is strongly discouraged. There are no safety sirens or barriers in place, so awareness and caution are crucial. Heroism or thrill-seeking can be fatal here. The water current can intensify without warning, making it extremely unsafe. The best and safest view is from the opposite side of the waterfall, where you can enjoy the full scenery without putting yourself at risk. It’s a good spot for photography or a quiet nature break—just from a safe distance. Pros: Beautiful and peaceful surroundings Less crowded; good for photography from afar Cons: Man-made overflow, not a natural waterfall Dangerous to approach; no safety systems in place Tips: Stay on the safe side of the waterfall Do not enter the water or get too close Visit with caution and never alone Verdict: A scenic spot best enjoyed from a distance. Respect the power of the water and prioritize safety.

A drive through Zoji La Pass in Ladakh is an unforgettable adventure. Known for its challenging terrain and high altitude, this road is not for the faint-hearted. The pass stands at an impressive 11,575 feet and is one of the most perilous routes in the region, with its winding paths and steep inclines. It’s a test of skill and nerve, but the reward is absolutely worth it. The views are nothing short of spectacular. As you navigate the rugged path, your jaw will drop at the panoramic vistas of the Himalayas. The sheer scale and beauty of the snow-capped peaks, deep valleys, and expansive skies are awe-inspiring. It feels like you’ve stepped into a different world, where the landscape stretches endlessly in every direction. The tranquility and zen-like calmness of the surroundings are perfect for reflection and appreciation. Zoji La Pass is a crucial route connecting Srinagar to Leh, playing a vital role in regional connectivity. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) does an incredible job maintaining this challenging road, ensuring it remains open despite the harsh weather conditions. To reach Zoji La, head from Srinagar towards Leh, and plan your journey between late May and early October when the pass is usually accessible. The road can be treacherous, so be prepared for an adventurous drive. Overall, if you’re up for the challenge, the beauty and sense of accomplishment make it an experience you’ll cherish forever.

The pass is also significant from a strategic standpoint, as it has been the site of several military conflicts. Overall, I recommend checking out Zoji La if you're an experienced driver or adventurer looking for a thrilling challenge.

One of the top items in ‘to do lists’ of every Indian biker. This pass connects Kashmir with Ladakh. It is adventurous, perilous and breathtakingly beautiful at the same time. It is like stepping into a time machine and getting out in a whole different era.

Sheshnag Lake is a significant tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, located approximately 27 km away from Pahalgam. It holds immense religious importance for Hindus as it is believed to be the location of Amarnath Cave. The lake's name derives from Seshnag, the seven-headed serpent king of Hindu mythology. To reach this holy site, travellers need to undertake a two-day long hike from Pahalgam.
Sheshnag is stunning, high-altitude body of water, typically crystal-clear and surrounded by majestic mountains. It's a serene and pristine destination, perfect for nature lovers and hikers seeking breathtaking views and tranquility.

From a distance, I can see the blue leader falling into a deep blue lake, my mind says to me, that is the Sheshnag lake. Now I am standing on the bank of the Sheshnag lake. It is said that Lord Mahadev went to the Amarnath cave to recite the immortal words to Mother Parvati, on the way to Amarnath, he left his companions. He left his companion Vasuki Nag in this Sheshnag lake. When you stand near the Sheshnag Lake, you can understand what a wonderful creation of nature is. Behind the lake, a glacier is visible through the gap between two mountains. The deep blue sky, occasionally the silver clouds float like cotton. Sitting on the banks of this beautiful lake, I am enjoying the beauty of the Sheshnag with my two eyes.

The second pitstop on trek towards Amarnath cave. Sheshnag Lake is located in Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley in Jammu and Kashmir, India at an elevation of 3590 meters. It is situated on the track leading to the Amarnath cave, about 23 km from Pahalgam. Distance between Pissu top and Sheshnag lake is approximately 9 kms. The mountains are covered with snow and ice sheets which melt slowly so that water flows into the deep groove and forms a lake. The scene here is absolutely pristine and serene. Crystal clear wanted, calm and placid lake. Once at this place you can rent out tents to unwind after a treacherous trek. The tents are cozy and comfortable. You'll also have food and bath arrangements here.

Sheeshnag Lake is a beautiful alpine lake located in Kashmir. It is situated along the route to the Amarnath Cave. I have visited the lake in June, when it was in its actual shape, and in December, snow-covered frozen. In both seasons it looks astonishing. Sheeshnag Lake trek: Starting Point: The trek typically starts from chandaanwadi, Pahalgam. The trek follows a well-defined route that passes through lush green meadows, dense forests, and snow-clad trails. It is essential to follow the designated path, and pilgrims often hire ponies or porters to carry their belongings. The first hour of the trek from Chandanwaadi to Pissu Top is little difficult, then it is easy then usual. The trek takes 4-5hrs time to complete from one side. Sonsar Lake: if you have done many treks and has experience of trekking, you can visit another lake namely sonsar Lake which os right side from the Zojibal pass. Start your trek early, you can visit both lakes in a day. Altitude:Sheeshnag Lake is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,842 meters (12,605 feet) above sea level. It's important to acclimatize properly to avoid altitude sickness. Camping: There are camping sites along the trek route, allowing trekkers to rest and acclimate to the high altitude. Proper camping gear is essential for a comfortable experience. Permits and Regulations: usually it is not required but during Amarnath Yatra you must have that. Weather: The weather usually remains good and as per the prediction. Trekkers should be prepared for varying weather conditions and carry suitable clothing and equipment.

A trek of 12 km from chandanwadi (vern. Chandanvoer) with a gradient of about 1000m will take you to one of the largest alpine lakes of kashmir. Trek is a bit difficult but once you get the first glimpse of the sparkling blue waters of the sheeshnag, all of that tiredness is gone at once. Surely one of the best places to visit. It would take you around 3.5 hours for the accent and around 3 hours for the descent.

Located about a 4-hour drive from Srinagar, it stands at an impressive 12,000 ft above sea level and serves as the starting point for various trekking routes to the upper region. The area is often covered in frozen ice throughout the year and may experience snow even during the summer if it rains.
A serene, offbeat gem in Kashmir. Expect breathtaking panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and valleys. It's less crowded than popular spots, offering a tranquil experience. Great for photography and some adventure like trekking and snow activities when accessible. Be prepared for potentially challenging roads and limited facilities. A must-visit for those seeking natural beauty away from the crowds. They allow entry before 2.30 pm...

Visited in June 2024. It is a mountain pass and a popular tourist destination. Around 4hrs one-way drive from Srinagar. It is a starting point of many trekking routes to upper region. The location has frozen ice most of the time around the year and will snow even summer time if it rains. Moreover, the view during the drive up to the Top is wonderful. But it is not a proper spot for children. If you don't bring own warm cloths, then you can rent on the way and also on the top. However, check carefully and bargain. They tend to give faulty jacket and other items. Also you can find snow-jets for rent and they will take you little higher than the normal area. But the cost is too much high.

This view point is located at 12000ft high from sea level. Covered with snow at mere places even in June. Adventure activities like snow bike, sledging are available with higher cost. Wearing snow jackets, gloves and boots which are available in rental basis are advisable to enjoy the climate prevailant there. Worth visiting once in a lifetime.

Very nice and serene place. Less crowd than other popular attractions but much better experience. You can step out of your vehicle on to the snow directly. No need for any horse ride or local taxi.

It serves as a crucial link between Kishtwar and Anantnag districts, providing a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. 🥶⛄️ The pass is characterized by its pristine natural beauty, with lush green meadows, dense forests, and clear blue skies. 🌨️It is a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers, offering opportunities for trekking, hiking, and photography. The road to Sinthan Top is known for its sharp curves and steep climbs, making the journey both challenging and exhilarating. In the summer months, the area is accessible and attracts many visitors looking to escape the heat of the lower regions. During the winter, heavy snowfall often blocks the pass, adding to its rugged charm. Sinthan Top remains relatively less commercialized compared to other tourist spots in the region, providing a serene and unspoiled environment for travelers.
