A small nice onsen along a stream in Doshi village. It has a rotenbura (open-air onsen) and two indoor ones with different temperatures. Quite a big relaxation area and a dining room which serves Japanese fare.

For us it’s okay the facilities are clean but time is short if you like to take a bath and soak for a while I recommend it’s okay ✅

(Translated by Google) This day-trip hot spring facility is located a short distance from Doshi Road (National Route 413). The road narrows from the highway, so speeding is a no-no. There are two indoor and one outdoor baths for men and women. There's also a dining hall, a small rest room, and a reception and kiosk. There are two parking lots: one in front of the building and one on a higher level. For Yokohama residents, admission is reasonably priced, usually between 700 and 500 yen, due to the water source. Naturally, you'll need proof of citizenship—purchase a ticket from a vending machine and present it at reception. Perhaps because towels are also available for rental, the shoe locker keys and bathroom locker keys need to be exchanged. The baths are generally lukewarm. Perhaps due to the rain, the outdoor bath was quite lukewarm. The dining hall has an extensive menu, but last orders are at 2:30 PM. This facility also accepts cashless payments using the same touch-screen vending machine as the entrance fee. A voucher is dispensed, and your order is automatically transmitted to the kitchen. When your food is ready, you'll be called to pick it up. Self-service water is located in a slightly confusing vending machine corner next to the kitchen. Even though it was a weekday and the weather was bad, a steady stream of customers, including locals, came in. Other reviews include photos of the inside of the bathroom, where photography is prohibited. It's important to strictly follow the rules.

(Translated by Google) The water is colorless and transparent, and doesn't have a distinctive hot spring feel, but since it was a weekday and it was quiet, I was able to take a second bath in the well-equipped rest area. Food and drinks are served until 3pm, so you can stay for a long time. The boiler is wood-fired, so while you soak in the open-air bath, the delicious aroma of burning wood wafts through the air. It seems to get quite crowded on weekends, holidays, and during the summer camping season.

(Translated by Google) The atmosphere, the size of the bath, and the quality of the spring water are just right - not too hot, not too cloudy, not too slippery - just right. It's really relaxing. Everyone who took a bath didn't say anything, and instead expressed their impressions with unconscious moans rather than words like "hmm" or "mmm."

It’s a biker’s paradise, there are plenty of nice twisty roads you can enjoy. This is a perfect location to set as a meeting point. Place gets really crowded during summer months, and unfortunate some fatal traffic accidents occurred. Wear proper protective gear and ride safe. Cops are also enforcing laws around the area.

Gora Station is a key transportation hub in Hakone, providing access to popular attractions such as Ashi Lake and Mount Fuji. Visitors can reach Ashi Lake via the Hakone Ropeway or local buses, with accommodation options mainly concentrated on the eastern shore near the ropeway station. On clear days, stunning views of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed from this area.
Very unique station with a few souvenir shop nearby. Connected to Hakone Tozan Cable Car and direct public bus to Gotemba Premium Outlet.

Great station to get in and out of town, as well as up the funicular to see the mountain! Beautiful lush greenery! Only downside is it gets VERY HOT while in the cable car waiting for it to leave.
Alex O — Google review
Where the mountain train breathes its last swirl and you board this steep climb. Gōra station sits amid cedar woods, café lanterns, and the hush of altitude. The cable car awaits like a doorway through light and slope — your body tilts, the world seems to stretch sky-wards. Tourist Tip: Take time at Gōra to wander the garden, hit the tea house in Gōra Park, and enjoy the elevated view before boarding. Good vantage for photos and a proper pause.
Stray L — Google review
A lovely station, can get busy and crowded but it’s well managed and organised. The cable car ride is very enjoyable, the views are amazing on a clear day.
Angela C — Google review
We visited this small train station to take the funicular train. The place was pretty crowded and there was a wait to board the train. The funicular train goes up the hill to Sounzan Station where the cable car is located.

Adam O — Google review
2023 September 4★ A nice station that's like the central hub of Hakone. Outside, there are numerous restaurants and other vendors. At this station, there's the cable car and the train. Though the train itself is pretty slow as it maneuvers through the hillside. It also does something interesting where it stops, reverses and takes another split line. Very interesting indeed. Otherwise you'll find that overall a pleasant ride.

Very beautiful train station and wonderful train journey. You will experience the different train journey experience while travelling in this train to reach Hakanoe. Beautiful mountain view and good to explore further

The Hakone Open-Air Museum

Mentioned on

Sculpture museum
Museums
The Hakone Open-Air Museum, established in 1966, aims to blend nature and art seamlessly. It spans across 77,000 acres of Japanese countryside and showcases an extensive collection from renowned international and local artists such as Miro, Rodin, and Yoshitatsu Yanagihara. The museum features outdoor sculptures by notable artists like Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth set against the backdrop of Hakone's lush hills.
We arrived at the Hakone Open-Air Museum with just 30 minutes to spare before closing—and while the staff at the ticket counter kindly warned us that it wasn’t ideal, I couldn’t pass up the chance to see Japan’s first open-air museum. So, with running shoes on and camera gear in hand, we dashed in at 4:30 PM and made the most of every minute. Despite the time crunch, we managed to see a surprising amount. The kids loved the interactive sculptures, and we snapped some fantastic photos with our tripod as we raced through the grounds. It was a whirlwind, but totally worth it. If you’re short on time, don’t skip it—just be ready to move fast! The museum itself is a stunning fusion of nature and art, with over 120 sculptures spread across beautifully landscaped gardens and lawns. Established in 1969, it features works by legends like Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, and even Pablo Picasso, whose pieces are housed in a dedicated two-story pavilion. There’s also a colorful stained-glass tower called the Symphonic Sculpture that you can climb for panoramic views of the park and surrounding mountains. One tip: find the entrance ahead of time. We spent nearly 10 minutes wandering around trying to locate it, which ate into our already limited time. The museum is just a short walk from Chokoku-no-Mori Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway, but signage can be subtle, especially if you’re in a rush. If you can, give yourself at least a couple of hours to explore. There’s a foot bath, kids’ play areas, cafes, and rotating indoor exhibitions that deserve more than a quick glance. But even in a sprint, the Hakone Open-Air Museum left a lasting impression—and I’m so glad we didn’t miss it.
Mika M — Google review
A wonderful open air museum. A great experience walking around through the gardens and enjoying the nature , the art works and the weather. Because the museum is in open air you need to choose for a day with good weather ( not a rainy day ). We especially enjoyed the Picasso Pavilion ! A very clean place and we suggest to spend approx 3 hours for the visit. By the way if you guys are a little bit tired there is a nice cozy coffee shop , with great Italian Coffee , ice cream , soft drinks and sandwiches. A huge parking space on the spot which cost 500 yen - we came by car. A highly recommended place if you are in Hakone. Enjoy !
Robert R — Google review
The day I visited, the weather was perfect—not cold, with plenty of sunshine. The gardens were beautifully arranged and the views were stunning, with many corners ideal for taking photos. Walking around was truly enjoyable. I especially liked how they placed little statues tucked into hidden spots, making it fun to explore. Later, I sat in the coffee shop, enjoyed some desserts, and admired the scenery. It was such a relaxing and refreshing experience.
Thanita B — Google review
Wow, wow, wow. They shouldn't call this a museum. It is an art gallery extraordinaire. Beautiful environment, many external installations allow for interaction. The Picasso and other indoor galleries are equally impressive. Child friendly. Lovely places to eat and drink as well as a top class shop. A must visit.
Craig B — Google review
The museum was one of my highlights of a visit to Japan, it is a unique experience with many art pieces in beautiful tranquil surrounds as you wander the gardens with the backdrop of the mountains. There are also some kid friendly areas including the climbing net where many children will spend at least an hour, the maze, and then when tired the pockeT area. Make sure to enjoy the foot Onsen that will rest those weary feet. There is a self serve ticket machine at the entrance so no need to wait in line.
Russell K — Google review
The museum is very pleasant, with beautiful views of the surrounding area. It's not a traditional museum, but it has many interesting and unusual exhibits. There's a pavilion displaying Picasso's works, and the exhibits are indoors. Just to walk around the museum takes more than an hour, and if you're looking closely at the exhibits, three hours might not be enough. Although the museum is located on the traditional Hakone Loop, it's very difficult to combine both the Loop and the museum in one day, especially for those visiting Hakone for just one day from Tokyo. Ideally, you should spend at least two days in Hakone, so you can leisurely visit the museums rather than rushing the entire route to finish before dark.
Shimon K — Google review
Simply stunning. A lot of thought and effort has gone into making this place special. Loved the mini Picasso museum in the middle. Top tip - try to arrive as close to 9am as possible to avoid the hoards of day trippers coming in from Tokyo
Stephen R — Google review
There are a couple of ticket machines to the left side of the entrance, if you’d like to skip the line. Overall it’s an interesting outdoor museum. It was nice to walk around even in the rain. The gift shops are also very nice

Nestled in a picturesque setting, the Hakone Venetian Glass Museum, also known as Hakone Garasu no Mori or Hakone Glass Forest, is a delightful museum that focuses on Venetian glassware. It boasts an impressive collection of exquisite glass pieces from various periods, with a special emphasis on those from the Venetian Renaissance.
A beautiful museum. Close to a bus station so it is easy to access. We went here on a super foggy day, so the garden was like a fairy tale. However it might be more beautiful on sunny days since the glass would be more beautiful under the sunlight. Indoor things were not that special, but the garden was very beautiful. Worth to visit.

WOW!!! The sparkles here!! You have to go on a sunny day or at least with the sun peaking through the clouds. The way the light hits the outdoor pieces is UNREAL! Loved all the indoor pieces too. Chihuly is always amazing to see in person. We had just been to Venice about a year earlier and it was so lovely to see it replicated so well here in Hakone! You will not regret exploring this museum, absolutely recommend!
Lauren K — Google review
Not a very big place, but very pretty, definitely worth a visit especially sometime close to sunset so you get a chance to photo the outside sculptures after dark. Just be vary that it closes early (before 6pm) like everything else in hakone

An adventurous bus ride from Hakone into the hills. The entry fee is 1800 yen. Some amazing pieces in the collection. Many nice images to take on a sunny day. The shop there is large and a cool Eki stamp as you enter. Well worth the journey.

Fabulous museum, both indoors and out. A brilliantly varied mix of static glassware indoors, glass sculptures outside, a concert, and an excellent restaurant (ideal for lunch). I was expecting a tourist trap but was very pleasantly surprised. Whether you're looking for entertainment or just shade and relaxation, you mustn't miss this one.

A museum that displays glass art throughout history. The museum has a spectacular garden and a very large souvenir shop. The place is beautiful and highly recommended for a visit.

One of the best museums I’ve been to! Not only is the fall foliage looks amazing, the glass exhibits are also incredible. We also got to enjoy a wonderful live concert!

March 2021 An interesting venue to visit when you are in hakone. A variety of different display of glasswork to enjoy. This isn’t far from the outdoor sculpture museum so can do both on the same day. There arent many food options around but we had a big breakfast included from our hotel. Suggest not to expect too much for food around this area.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the serene natural beauty of Hakone, Japan, the Pola Museum of Art is a modern museum that boasts a unique underground design and offers visitors a forest trail experience. Established in 2002 by the Pola Art Foundation, this museum showcases an impressive private art collection amassed over 40 years by Tsuneshi Suzuki.
Such a cool museum. We saw the COLOR exhibit and it’s one of the best exhibits I’ve ever seen. So good we had to buy the book. There are lockers to store your backpack and umbrellas if it’s raining. These were especially helpful for the nature walk that was through a gorgeous forest. Art outside is my new favourite thing. Highly recommend if you’re in Hakone.
Tess C — Google review
As with most things Japanese the harmony of the art work, the architecture of the building and the surrounding nature make for a very appealing visit. There is both a bus stop out front as well as a free shuttle to and from Gora. There are free lockers for personal items as well as cables to secure large suitcases in case this is your last activity on the way out. The colours exhibition was memorable and well curated. Do also have a stroll in the forest. There are short, medium and long options for the walk and you get to see some of the fantastic supporting structure that makes this building float on the mountain. The Japanese stewartia trees make a compelling argument that nature is the best artist.
L C — Google review
A peaceful and elegant afternoon in the forest. The collection features beautiful works by Cézanne, Monet, Picasso, and Renoir, all thoughtfully displayed in a serene, modern space. I had lunch at the museum’s restaurant, then wandered through the forest trail surrounded by quiet and trees. Art, food, and nature — the perfect balance.
LiamFromUK — Google review
Amazing museum, one of the nicest I’ve been to both because of it’s selection of art, it’s architecture, and it’s natural surroundings. Very convenient free shuttle from Gora station every 30 minutes. Today was a rainy day but the museum is definitely enjoyable anyway, we also walked the natural path around it and it was beautiful in rainy and cloudy weather. Only downside for me was the restaurants vegetarian/vegan food. Only one option which actually was a plate with meat removed so it was not very filling at all (spent ¥6.000 for 2 people).
Joaquin F — Google review
Pretty snazzy art museum. Or art gallery. They have various exhibitions and I went to see the Van Gogh one. It had more art from people influenced by Van Gogh. The building is pretty nice and it's nice to wander around. They even let you take pictures of some artworks as well. The surrounding grounds also look pretty good as well, but best go when the weather is nicer than when I went. It was cloudy and raining a bit. I bet the autumn leaves there are very nice. If you buy tickets beforehand you can get a discount on the cost. It's a pretty cool place.

We caught the local bus up to the museum which was really easy to do, lovely drive up there through the beautiful lush green vegetation, we had lunch at the restaurant which was absolutely superb before wandering around the museum, amazing artwork very thought-provoking, with modern and classical arts on display

Total change of exhibits from previous years! This time the whole museum was about Japanese artists essentially, who were impacted on by the famous Dutch Van Gogh along with a few other artists from other countries

Owakudani, also known as Hell Valley, is a geothermic site in Hakone that offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding area. Visitors can take the Hakone Tozan Railway or local buses from Hakone-Yumoto Station to reach this forested and mountainous area. One of the main attractions here is the opportunity to eat black eggs boiled in hot springs, which are said to add seven years to your life for each egg consumed.
The visitor centre comprises of much needed amenities as well as a souvenir shop. Everyone and their mother is buying black eggs (4 for ¥500). If you are wondering where do people get the black soft cream from, it's from a shop (極楽茶屋) further south from the visitor centre, so don't waste time here.

We had an excellent experience at Owakudani. The landscape is incredible—sulfur vents steaming all around, the smell of the volcano in the air, and if you’re lucky with clear weather, amazing Mt. Fuji views. The highlight was trying the famous black eggs—warm, tasty, and fun to share (plus the local legend of adding seven years to your life makes it even better). Shops and facilities were clean, staff were kind, and everything felt organized. Truly a unique stop in Hakone. Pro tips: • Weekdays are calmer → much less crowded and easier to enjoy the views. • Check the weather → Mt. Fuji is visible only on clear days; worth planning around. • Black eggs → sold in 5-packs, perfect for sharing with family/friends. • Bring a jacket → it’s cooler and windy up here compared to Hakone town. • Ropeway check → sometimes it closes due to volcanic gases or strong winds, so confirm before heading up.

This area was originally called the "Valley of Hell" (地獄谷), but was renamed "Owakudani" (大湧谷, literally "Great Boiling Valley") after Emperor Meiji visited. It’s a volcanic landscape with continuous volcanic gas emissions that fill the air with a strong sulfur smell. Give the local specialty, the black eggs, a try, although they taste just like regular boiled eggs.

This is my second time visiting Hakone. Just a simple stroll around the area this time. I took the Hakone Tozan Railway from Hakone-Yumoto Station to Gora Station, then continued on the Hakone Tozan Cable Car to Sōzan Station. From there, I bought a one-way Hakone Ropeway ticket (¥2000), which allows unlimited stops along the route. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great this time and very misty, so the view from the ropeway wasn’t clear. Still, it was a relaxing ride through the cool mountain air.

Stunning views. The original name was " valley of hell" rename Owakudani. The sulfur smell is quite strong. Try the famous black eggs; they say that is you eat one black egg you will be 7 years younger

Tourist Tourist Tourist, we were there during the summer and the Japanese school holiday. There place is full to the brim. Restaurants are packed. No place to sit at all. The top there, sulfur smell is quite strong. Got to the try their famous black egg. The was a saying that you eat one black egg, you will be 7 years younger !

We were so excited and hungry on our Klook bus tour after arriving to Hakone Ōwakudani Valley. We ordered 4 black eggs pack for ¥500, they accept cash only. Although they tasted like normal boiled eggs it was still fascinating to eat the famous black eggs. We were told eating a black egg prolongs your life 7 years! My favourite was taking the Hakone Ropeway Ōwakudani cable car to see the views of the volcanic valley. It was very windy day and cool seeing it in person.
Jenny T — Google review
Owakudani Information Center is a helpful stop during the Hakone Ropeway journey, offering clear guidance about the volcanic valley, ropeway routes, and nearby attractions. The displays provide useful information about the geothermal activity in the area, and the staff are polite and ready to assist with directions or queries. A convenient and informative point to begin exploring Owakudani.

Kuzuryu Shrine Shingu, also known as the Nine-Headed-Dragon Shrine, is a vibrant red Shinto site located near Lake Ashi in Hakone. Legend has it that a monk subdued a nine-headed dragon that demanded human sacrifices from villagers, leading to the shrine's establishment in 757. This historical power spot is believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and improved fortune. It's particularly popular with women who come to pray for love and successful marriages.

Originally established in the year 757, the Nine-Headed-Dragon Shrine [Kuzuryu-jinja] reveres a nine-headed dragon. According to ancient legend, the dragon who lived at the bottom of Lake Ashi demanded a human sacrifice from the local villagers. A monk named Mangan Jyonin saved the villagers by subduing the dragon causing it to renounce its evil ways. The dragon became revered as a dragon king, and these days, a festival is held every year on July 31st to celebrate the nine-headed dragon king.

Lake Ashi, also known as Ashinoko, is a picturesque crater lake located in Hakone, west of Tokyo. Visitors can enjoy sightseeing cruises on the lake and explore nearby hiking trails and campsites. The area offers various ways to take in the stunning scenery, including onboard Hakone Sightseeing Cruises or from the shores of Lake Ashi. Additionally, visitors can experience breathtaking views from the Hakone Ropeway gondola or while relaxing in hot springs.
Lake Ashi in Hakone is a scenic crater lake surrounded by mountains, often seen with Mount Fuji in the background. The area offers boat cruises, lakeside trails, and hot springs. A peaceful destination ideal for day trips or weekend escapes from Tokyo.

We came to Lake Ashi and took the cruise on what looked like a pirate ship. This ship has a lift that made it easy to reach the open deck. It was spring and the wind made it feel very cold on the ship. The lake is pleasant and we could see the Tori of Peace from the deck.

The lake is known for its views of Mount Fuji, its numerous hot springs, historical sites,However, i might visit at the wrong timimg so there is nothing special. Surrounded by mountains and trees ,also a few buildings along the shore. If you visit Hakone, you can take a 30-minute boat cruise excursion from the port at Hakone Sekisho-ato Port or the Moto-hakone Port.

I think it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I wish we could stay longer. So serene and beautiful, in a cloudy and even a bit rainy day. The surroundings are surprisingly not clean but it doesn’t ruin the experience.

I visited Togendai Station to take the Lake Ashi Cruise, and it was a very good experience. The station is clean, easy to navigate, and well-managed. It is also connected to the ropeway, which makes travel very convenient. The Lake Ashi Cruise was beautiful and peaceful. The views of the lake, mountains, and surrounding nature were excellent. On a clear day, you can even see Mt. Fuji from the cruise. The ship is comfortable, and the staff are polite and helpful. Overall, it is a very smooth and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend the Togendai Station and Lake Ashi Cruise for anyone visiting Hakone.

Lake Ashi (Ashinoko) is a scenic crater lake in the Hakone area of Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the region's most iconic destinations, famous for its classic views of Mount Fuji, historical shrines, and unique sightseeing boats. Volcanic Origins: The lake was formed approximately 3,000 years ago following a major eruption of Mount Hakone. The eruption caused a landslide that dammed a local river, creating the caldera lake we see today. Historical Significance: During the Edo period, the lake was a critical point on the Old Tokaido Road, the main route connecting Tokyo and Kyoto. Travelers had to pass through the nearby Hakone Checkpoint (Hakone Sekisho), which has been reconstructed for visitors to tour today. Took a pirate ship tour ride and the views are spectacular.

Kamui Misaka Ski is a ski resort that caters to families and beginner skiers. The resort offers gentle slopes suitable for all levels of experience, along with skiing lessons and a small café. Although visited towards the end of the season (in March), we found that there was no snow outside of the ski area itself. Despite its size, Kamui Misaka Ski has two lifts available for guests to use.
Great for nearby skiing. Two hours from Chiba. If it's cold enough, the fake snow is adequate.

This is the first time. I'm visiting a ski resort. I like to share some of my experience. Here you can rent ski , snowboard ,boots ,tracks and jackets. But you need to carry gloves by yourself or else you can buy from the store but it has only limited stocks better to buy from outside. The resort has a integrated restaurant. People can barely speak English but very helpful. Snow is kind of artificially made and it's hard. In the aspect of safety some place are dangerous for beginners. Overall it's average ski resort to enjoy.

Mount Amagi, located in Izu, Japan, is a stunning mountain peak offering a variety of hiking trails and breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji. It is the highest vantage point in the area and consists of several peaks including Mt. Banjiro and Mt. Banzaburo. Visitors can also explore the beautiful Joren-no-Taki waterfall, wasabi fields, trout fishing spots, and relax at the Shuzenji Onsen.
(Translated by Google) I climbed Mt. Amagi, one of the 100 famous mountains, a stoic mountain with few rewards such as scenery. The free parking lot also has toilets and facilities to wash your hiking shoes. The Amagi Rhododendron Course took about 6 and a half hours, but the path was quite difficult to understand, especially between the Karasawa Junction and Yotsutsuji, and I got nervous after climbing up some strange scree for about 30 minutes. There were a lot of warning signs posted in the parking lot, indicating that there were people who were lost, but I ended up getting lost due to my carelessness. Fortunately, I had a map on my phone, so I was able to notice it right away, but I recommend being fully prepared for the climb. It was great to be able to see Mt. Fuji from the horse's back. (Translated by Google) Mt. Amagi (Amagisan) is the collective name for the mountain range also known as Mt. Manjiro and Mt. Manzaburo (highest peak 1406m), and is the highest peak on the Izu Peninsula. There is a folk tale and legend about three Tengu brothers in the Izu region, and there is a theory that the names of these three brothers were borrowed from them. Incidentally, the eldest son is named after Mount Daruma, a mountain in Toda, Numazu City (although unlike the two brothers mentioned above, it is not a proper noun, but a common noun). There are also various theories about the origin of the mountain's name, including one that says it comes from the fact that it is one of the rainiest mountain ranges in Japan, and that it was named "Amagi" because the mountain is covered with trees so thick that it covers the sky. Located in Kuwasaki, Fuji City, Mt. Fuji Children's World is a fun-filled kids' attraction offering a diverse range of indoor and outdoor activities. From nature observation and horseback riding to water play and animal petting, the park provides various engaging programs for children. Additionally, visitors can enjoy amenities such as restaurants, rest houses, barbecue areas, shops, hotels, campgrounds, and unique lodging options like yurts within the park premises.
This place is an aging gem. The prices can be beaten and the grounds are naturally beautiful set with Fuji-San as a fantastic backdrop. There are sign of wear and some best-effort managed vegetation growth, but it’s not worth thinking about. The splash pad and water slide were my 4 year olds favorite. Also, the canoe/kayak route is free! It’s a great place to take a leisurely hike around. 5-stars for stress free fun!

Went in early Dec 2024. The place offers very nice scenery of Mount Fuji. The attraction for children is very limited during the cold season. The snow ride is closed when we are they, which is very disappointing. The animal farm is not big. There's horses , rabbits ,sheep, goats, and Alpaca. There's an entrance fee to pay. Every attraction need to pay for a fee like the tricycle. The place is huge and walking from one attraction to another take around 10min. If choose to take bus or train to get to those attraction, you need to pay for the ride as well. Overall, average for children experience and adult for the scenery.

We visited Fuji Children’s World on Saturday, November 1, 2025. We took a taxi from Gotemba Station, which cost around 5,600 yen, as there was no public transportation available to and from the park. When it was time to return, the staff were exceptionally helpful, they assisted us in booking a taxi, stayed with us until it arrived, and even escorted us to the pick-up location where the driver was waiting.

It is a nice place to take younger children to enjoy nature and play outdoors. It is best to bring picnic type lunch with you. You can enjoy an entire day outside walking o trails, children riding ponies, trips on the water in boats. There is frisbee golf and grand golf. There is not a lot for you to purchase inside the park so best come prepared with drinks and snacks as needed. If you don’t have children but an a nice place to walk around and enjoy the beautiful scenery this is o e of those places.

My family loves visiting Mt. Fuji Children's world! In August you can visit their beetle exhibit and hold stag or Hercules beetles. My children love the waterside and "ninja" water run. The highlight for us is always the fishing pond, where we catch and grill our lunch, as they will gut the fish you catch. It's a great place to enjoy with kids, lots of beautiful nature to see. Be sure to plan to spend the entire day here, as there is so much to do and you won't want to leave!

Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium is a unique attraction that showcases deep-sea creatures, including luminescent fish, octopuses, and the rare coelacanth. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring frozen coelacanths, considered living fossils, and get up-close views of massive deep-sea isopods. The aquarium covers the depths of Suruga Bay and other deep-sea locations worldwide, displaying about 1,500 creatures from approximately 60 species.
Been to a number of aquariums and this has to be a really unique one with creatures not seen in some of the big aquariums. Many specimens of deep sea fish (naturally so, as they thrive in very different environments hard to replicate in the aquarium setting). Good place to learn about deep sea fishes and hopefully more written explanation in English would be helpful. For the price it is worth the visit. There are also some fun entertainment rides relating to the aquarium around it.

This aquarium has a reasonable ticket price and is worth a visit, especially if you haven’t been before. The space inside is quite large and well-organized, making it easy to walk around without feeling crowded. While there aren’t many rare species on display, it’s still a fun and educational experience for all ages. There are restaurants and a parking lot conveniently located nearby, making it a great spot to spend a few hours with family or friends. Overall, a pleasant visit!

We went on a Monday at 12pm. Even though it was a midday in the weekday, there was still a few people inside. Very unique selection of animals because it depends on what is caught. We went when it was off-season, so there was no flapjack octopus. In addition to the deep sea animals, there are comprehensive explanations of how they catch the animals, how they maintain the aquarium etc. Overall a bit of a small aquarium, but definitely worth a visit especially for its price!

We saw real japanese spider crabs and they have (as the only museum in the world) frozen specimens of coelacanth. Very impressive. We had a great time and learned a lot!

If you are in the area, might as well. It's not too big but you will see lots of species you would rarely see otherwise. Might make you hungry for the fish market outside lol. The gift shop has some good stuff. The isopods give me the creeps in real form and plush form.

Even amongst the many aquariums in Japan, this is a unique one, though not that huge. Focused solely on deep sea creatures, it has many fascinating live specimens and it even display non deep sea affiliate of the deep sea specimens just so we can observe the difference. Of course the main highly is the frozen specimen at -20 degrees Celsius and incredibly has been frozen since the 80s as the only one in the world that is 100% original (not taxidermy).

It is a very interesting museum. Rather small, but focusing on the deep sea which you dont have in other aquariums. We learned new things which was very fun. It is not a must see, but if you are in Mushimi or Numazu then your options on activities in the summer heat are limited and you will most probably enjoy it like we did 😀

Numazu Port Observatory Water Gate

Sights & Landmarks
Numazu Port Observatory Water Gate, also known as View-O Flood Gate, offers breathtaking panoramic views of Suruga Bay and Mount Fuji. The observatory provides a serene and relaxing atmosphere with minimal crowds, making it easy to enjoy the unobstructed 360-degree views. Visitors can take in the picturesque scenery during both day and night, with the possibility of catching a glimpse of Mount Fuji on clear days. The affordable ticket price makes this experience even more worthwhile.
The view is breathtaking. It's a lovely place to visit. The entrance is super cheap, and there's a beautiful park nearby.

Visited this on a weekday. There is barely any people so it is quite nice that we don't have to queue up and get to enjoy the scenic views without much distractions. The ticket price for adults is really cheap, only 100 Yen, so the price is negligible in all regards. The view is very nice because it is 360 degrees, allowing us to view everything unobstructed. Moreover, some windows are opened, allowing us to take clearer pictures. One problem is that some air-conditioned are switched off somehow (though the public can switch back on), making the second portion of the tower much hotter and stuffy. Overally, this place is quite nice and worth a short visit.

View-O at Numazu Port is a well-known local landmark and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The structure is impressive, and the view is great from every angle — perfect for photography any time of day. Whether you're capturing the gate from the streets or along the waterfront, it always looks striking. I’ve heard you can go up into the observatory, but I haven’t done that myself. Still, it’s a peaceful and photogenic spot that’s easy to enjoy without crowds. A hidden gem for travelers and photo enthusiasts!

A functional water gate with observatory space, and a bridge connecting two sides of the harbour entrance. Entrance fee is inexpensive, and have access to 360° view with Mt. Fuji in sight
Sam K — Google review
Numazu Port's View-O Flood Gate provides spectacular day and night views of Numazu City, Shizuoka, Mount Fuji and bodies of water that surround three of four directions. In the day, it is said that you can see Mount Fuji on a clear day. In the night, you are greeted by its luminous colours that light the observation deck and towers that support/move the flood gate, making it a sight in itself of the night. Unfortunately, I was only able to visit during the night and catch the views during that time. However, with the December night that it was, not being cold on the outside and being warm inside the observation deck, it made for a nice, quiet overlook of the city interior and a hint of Mount Fuji resting behind a partly-cloudy night. For 100円, you can get many nice photo opportunities up on the observation deck. Even at night, the lights-off interior and mainly-exterior lighting creates a relaxing... and, to some, romantic... ambience/aesthetic. It's a must-visit during all seasons. Visitors to Numazu should make it a point to stop here and go through both sides of the port's inlet to discover what each side has to offer.

Amazing views across Numaza port and city. A must see when visiting the area. Elevator to the top is only ¥100 for adults, ¥50 for children. The surrounding fish market area has lots to see and do; with many great shops and restaurants (the sashimi is really good). Highly recommended for a lovely day out.

Over the past seven weeks from May to June 2024, I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer on a farm nestled in the picturesque Yamanashi prefecture of Japan. Kazu-san and Cham-san welcomed me with open arms. Their kindness and accommodation made the experience of living and working there enjoyable and fulfilling. I learnt a lot from Kazu-san as he shared about Japanese culture, fruit growing and his life. When there was time, Kazu-san would bring the volunteers to the onsen or show us around the area. I also enjoyed Cham-san's home-cooked lunches, working with her and when they would bring Yuri-chan to say hi to us! It was also great fun playing with their 5 cats who were extremely sweet and friendly. One of the highlights of my experience was working with fellow volunteers who came from many different countries. Together, we tackled various tasks, exchanging stories and laughter, shared meals and went on various road trips/outings on our off days. I also had the opportunity to work with their Japanese staff who exhibited willingness to guide us through tasks, despite the language barrier. I appreciate their kindness and patience throughout the time when I worked with them. I am immensely grateful to Kazu-san, Cham-san, the Japanese staff, and my fellow volunteers for making this journey incredible.

There are so many peach trees, we can climb up the ladder to pick the top/good one which faces the sun that Cham told us. She also let us taste the golden peaches too. All the peaches were very delicious and juicy. Thank you Cham!

Nice waterfall right next to a parking lot. You need to walk a little bit and there are a bunch of steps to take. At the bottom of the falls theres a Wasabi farm which is cool to see. You can also rent angling gear and try to catch some fish.

One of the most beautiful waterfall sites anywhere on the world. Surrounded by wasabi fields. Plenty of of parking space. Short hike. Interesting shops selling wasabi and rainbow trouts. Very accessible for those travelling with kids. Not packed with people so you can still get a serene atmosphere at the waterfall. Great drive to the location is a plus

Beautiful, but too touristy. Can't access the river unless you pay for fishing, which is disappointing. Would have been amazing to sit down on a rock and dip feet in the stream. For those who excuse fencing off the falls by claiming protection of environment from tourists - there are hundreds more waterfalls all over Japan that are open but just as clean, so no made up excuses are necessary.

Go to Izu_Hanto but not stopping by Joren Falls then it is not completely yet. Story of famous Izu dancers by Kawabata, it is here, this location is within the story, the young student with a young girl encounter through out their trips. Parking is large free, right by the way down to Jorell falls is status of the beautiful two famous innocent, light hearts romance standing. The water falls down by 200 more steps but in well maintained and well cared for every one. Down to the falls you will feel the strong of water running and clean air fresh air. Small shop for wasabi, ice cream and sign up if you want to go fishing there. It is one of the main stops in Izu peninsula if you are interested in the beautiful izu Hanto. Going up after visiting the falls then coffee shop Idoriko's coffee shop. Name from the old train used to run at this side. Gifts shops is also carrying many products, fresh wasabi 's available to purchase if you like. This place is good stop and easy to all. We loved to be here. Thank you

The photos don't do it justice, it was more spectacular than I thought, especially in the rain. The surprising bonus was the small wasabi farm also in the gorge, so you can see the waterfall and get your wasabi hit (including buying fresh wasabi) in the same place. There are about 200 steps and no wheelchair accessibility. No toilets in the gorge either.

Nestled in the scenic Izu Peninsula, the Toi Gold Mine is a fascinating glimpse into Japan's rich mining history. This centuries-old site once thrived during the Edo and Meiji periods, producing over 40 tonnes of gold and an impressive amount of silver. Visitors can explore its extensive network of tunnels, which stretches approximately 100 km, and experience a unique panning activity for gold.
Last minute stop because I saw the road sign of it. It was not bad at all. Feel like it's more for children but you can enjoy a quick tour as an adult. The path into the mine is way longer than what I was expecting. So it was a good surprise
Asa M — Google review
The museum exhibit and the walk through the tunnel was average. Nothing impressive. We however had fun experiencing the gold panning.
Andy G — Google review
Interesting tour in the gold mine with explanations in English and a small museum at the end. About 30 min. There’s also gold panning additional activity.
Zohar E — Google review
A great place to take your children to explore historical gold mines and the history behind it. The mine itself has a really low ceiling so need to be real cautious. There is also an area to experience panning; also a great experience for kids as it’s almost guaranteed you can find some placer gold (it’s artificial). Adult tickets are about 1900 yen for the whole pack experience. Huge parking lot.
Poyopoyo — Google review
Such a cool experience. The majority of the experience is in an air conditioned mine where animatronic robots illustrate the rigors of daily mining life. There is a small museum indoors attached to a gift shop where the record breaking gold bar resides. There is also an indoor gold panning area where you can buy tickets for a timed panning session. People will find little flecks of gold as a nice souvenir.
Mar M — Google review
Interesting history. The mineral mines in this area really made this place prosperous. It was fun learning about the mine and panning for gold. The garden was also very beautiful and picturesque. They have gold foil ice cream. There’s no taste to the gold but the ice cream was delicious. Good place to stop if you’re in the area. Their restaurant is open from 11:00-15:00 with last order at 14:30. There are food trucks in the parking lot.
Danielle M — Google review
Creatively illustrated process of gold mining procedures that was carried out in the past here. Apart from the tunnel visit, you also get to experience the process of filtering gold from the ore. It's sort of a back bending activity, however worth trying.
Sridhar K — Google review
Interesting place to visit, one can understand the gold mining history of Japan from here. The tunnels created for gold mining is kept and maintained for the visitors to walk around and see. Through out the tunnel models are displayed explaining the life of miners. There is a nice museum near, highlights are 12kg and 250kg gold. Visitors can touch and lift it(if you are strong enough). Another attraction is the gold panning, at an extra cost we can try out luck in gold panning at the area provided near the gift shop. One can get some interesting Omiyage from the gift shop here. Overall a good experience worth the time for kids and adults.

It was the perfect destination to take a couple. Although the place is called “Lover’s Cape,” it’s a wonderful spot for anyone to enjoy. A short 10-minute walk through lush greenery from the parking area leads to a high vantage point overlooking the sea. The area is rich in nature, with the constant song of bush warblers, and the ocean was beautiful.

It’s much more than the description on the website, before I came here, I thought the things I can do there are ringing the bell and drinking a cup of coffee. Moreover, the cats there are actually very cute and popular, many souvenirs are based on them! Kawaii

Nestled in Shimizu Ward, Miho no Matsubara, or Miho Pine Forest, is a breathtaking 7-kilometer stretch of coastline that captivates visitors with its sandy beach adorned by a lush grove of pine trees. On clear days, the majestic Mount Fuji serves as a stunning backdrop to this picturesque setting. This area is not only renowned for its natural beauty but also forms part of the Mt.
visited on 20 May 2025. love love loved this place. it made me feel so close to nature, having the pine trees and sea in one view. would have completed the trio if Mt Fuji had made an appearance! there is a neat little museum/tourist information center with a free exhibition on Miho no Matsubara and its beginnings. I enjoyed learning about it alot, and how it had a significant cultural and religious influence on Japan. I would love to come back to view Mt Fuji again. It was designated as one of the 3 (old) scenic views of Japan but it definitely deserves to be on the new list as well! It is a protected world heritage site and very well loved by locals as well.

Packed with people. The pines were interesting. Twisted trees instead of straight. We only saw a faint outline of mount Fuji because of the haze in the sky. They say it's rarely visible in June through August. Didn't expect the air pollution in Japan.
J T — Google review
If you’re over 5’11 beware of the pine trees they are sharp. But turning the corner and seeing Mount Fuji without too much clouds was amazing. Got the ferry and bus which took under 40min. Little bit of a walk to get the the scenic views but worth it.
Ꭰavid J — Google review
Visiting Miho Pine Forest in Japan was an experience I will always cherish, even if the weather didn’t quite cooperate. I had come with the hopes of catching a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji in the distance, a vision I had seen countless times in photos. Unfortunately, the sky was blanketed with thick clouds, and Fuji-san remained hidden from sight. Despite that, the forest itself was a serene and magical place, offering a unique charm that more than made up for the missed view. Walking along the coastline, the first thing that struck me was the color of the sand. Unlike the golden beaches I’m used to, Miho’s sand is a deep, almost mysterious black a reminder of the volcanic activity that shaped this region centuries ago. There’s something grounding about walking on these dark sands, almost as if you’re stepping on history itself. The contrast between the black sand and the vibrant green pine trees lining the shore was striking, and I found myself pausing frequently just to take it all in. One of the highlights of the visit was learning about the legend of Hagoromo. According to local folklore, a celestial maiden once descended to this very beach, leaving behind her magical feathered robe. A fisherman discovered it, and through a series of events, the tale tells of love, trust, and the enchantment of the heavens touching the earth. Standing where the story unfolded gave the place a poetic aura, and I could almost imagine the soft wind carrying whispers of the legend through the pines. It made the forest feel alive with stories from the past, connecting nature with culture in a way that was profoundly moving. The walk through the forest was refreshing and peaceful. The tall pine trees swayed gently in the breeze, filling the air with the crisp, calming scent of pine. Even without the sight of Mount Fuji, there was a sense of tranquility that made the visit worthwhile. I found small spots where I could sit quietly, listening to the waves lap against the shore, feeling the soft sand beneath my feet, and simply soaking in the serene atmosphere. For photographers, this location is a treasure trove even on cloudy days. The textures of the black sand, the silhouettes of pine trees, and the often-dramatic coastal skies create perfect opportunities for moody and evocative shots. Families, couples, or solo travelers will all find something to enjoy, whether it’s a quiet stroll, a reflective pause, or just the sheer joy of being in a beautifully preserved natural space. In the end, Miho Pine Forest reminded me that sometimes the journey itself the sights, sounds, and stories is just as meaningful as any iconic view. Though Mount Fuji stayed hidden behind the clouds, the forest, the beach, and the legend of Hagoromo made the visit unforgettable. It’s a place I would happily return to, perhaps on a sunnier day, but even now, it holds a quiet, mystical charm that stays with you long after you leave.

Great view of fujisan on a good day. Have to walk a bit for the view but it was a unique scene of fujisan from this place. Recommend to go if you have time, it’s far from other usual fuji-spotting places

Didn't get to see Mt Fuji from here - granted it is summer, so low visibility anyways. But good for a walk and sightseeing!

I’d definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting Shizuoka on a clear day. You can enjoy a unique combination of Mt. Fuji, the Pacific Ocean, and a beautiful pine forest — it’s really something special.

Serenity by the sea! Spent a lovely afternoon strolling along Japan's beautiful port. Friendly locals, delicious fresh seafood, and breathtaking views. Felt grateful to experience the warmth of Japanese hospitality. A must-visit spot for any traveler!

A hidden gem in Shimuzu where you’ll find endless eateries and retail shops. There are two floors of places to eat. You’ll find tax free shopping at Uniqlo and Gu. There’s an amusement park with a Ferris wheel and rides for kids. I had a delicious buffet lunch at Hatoba Kitchen at a reasonable price that included drinks and desserts. Make sure you visit the top floor for a beautiful view of Mt Fuji on a clear day.

It is a great place to visit, they provide free shuttle bus from Shimizu station.

Had a great time exploring this huge mall. Great food, bakery, stores and just an all around good variety of items. If you are on a cruise like me, the Google map might tell you that it is a 10 min walk..no more like a 5 min walk! There were alot of other things there like a museum and arcade and a huge ferris wheel. Great area to explore!!!
Nikki N — Google review
This two-level mall is situated on the Shimizu waterfront, near the International Cruise Terminal... be advised, however, that there are two separate buildings, offering different types of retail shopping.

A big beautiful mall with everything for everyone. Departmental stores, restaurants, foodcourt, amusement park, cultural events, cinemas, supermarket … etc. A bright red free shuttle bus is available at JR Shimizu Station Minato Exit (East Exit). Go to S-Pulse Dream Plaza website for details. There’s no taxi stationed at the Plaza. Have to use the taxi phone to call for one. We asked Plaza concierge for assistance. She was very kind. She helped us book a taxi to Shin-Fuji Station

Kunōzan Tōshōgū, a picturesque Shinto shrine established in 1617, is a must-visit in Shizuoka Prefecture. It honors Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate and a key figure in Japanese history. The shrine's serene ambiance and stunning architecture make it an ideal place to pay respects to this influential leader.
#1 place to see in Shizuoka. Tomb of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun, and a truly ornate shrine in his honor (built by his son). Either walk up 1200 steps, or take the ropway from Nihondaira.
Roland H — Google review
extremely ornate temple and they also share a video onsite about the restoration efforts put in to the temple. the entrance fee may be abjt steep however the grounds are pretty big and extend beyond the ticket office. the steps down are uneven stone steps, so do take note for those who may be less mobile. I took the reverse route - Nihondaira ropeway down from Yume Terrace to the shrine, before trekking down the steps. There is an amazing view of the ocean on the way down
Wei ( — Google review
A magnificent temple right in front of the sea, a relaxing place that soothes you in a second. I just recommend being close for the stairs to get to the temple place. But I assure you that it is worth the effort.
Laila M — Google review
There are paid parking near entrance ¥300-¥500. You can use Cable car or stairs (about 1400steps) to reach to temple. You have to buy tickets to enter the temple and ticket center is at top, ¥700 per adult. The view on the top is amazing 🤩
Lakshika E — Google review
quite like it here - it's quiet and calm, then was able to walk around with a peaceful mind and enjoy the environment. but i went there at a late time so some entrance to the temple was already blocked, i was only able to look at it from outside. but it's beautifully built. the stairs were quite large and high, so had to walk carefully especially for elderly. i spent around an hour here but i think when it's in operation hour like around noon? when all the temples are open and welcome for worshipping, it'd be good to spend more time here to refresh and relax both body and soul here.
Giami L — Google review
I recommend everyone visit this shrine and museum. I learned so much about Tokugawa here and had a wonderful experience. Just be prepared to climb a couple steps. It's worth every moment
Eugene H — Google review
The shrines, lanterns, scenery, etc. were beautiful! It was very crowded when we went.

Absolutely Beautiful shrine to see. I didn't know I took the easy way to the top until I was walking down the mountain. **The shrine has an entrance fee of 800¥ for an adult** There are 2 ways to get to the top. **Depends on what side of the mountain you are coming from!**** 1. You take the stairs up if you come from the sea side. (This is the main entrance) -do NOT underestimate these stairs, there are A LOT of stairs. Be prepared to be super tired, and bring water with you. 2. Coming from the zoo side you can take a bus ride to the top, then take the really cool ropeway to the shrine. - to use the ropeway it is 700¥ one way, so be prepared to pay that fee if you want to go to the shrine. If you have a goshuin book, they have the written seal area outside the shrine next to the ticket booth. People were nice and directed you where to go. All and all, this was a great visit and well worth the time it took me to get here. If you go, please be respectful of the sacred area, this is a religious and worship site. Conduct yourself accordingly!

Nihondaira Zoo is a compact zoo located in Japan, offering a variety of attractions for visitors. The zoo features red pandas and giant anteaters, along with the Wild Animal House where polar bears, lions, and tigers can be observed. Additionally, the Reptile House showcases species such as caimans, Burmese pythons, and green anacondas.
When you are in Shizuoka City I would definitely recommend this place to be visited. Not a Large zoo and not too small either. All the Animals here are active. From big cats to primates to lesser panda’s and capybaras.petting zoo is also available except at the time we went there it is closed. There’s also an observation tower where you need to ride a slow lift to reach the tower and go down but you can also use the long slide to go down which is much more fun even for an adult 😅 They have 3 parking areas in the area.parking fee is around ¥620. Small kids amusement park and souvenir shop.

I visited Nihondaira Zoo to see and pet the capybara, but unfortunately, I arrived too late. Visitors should come earlier because petting the capybara is only allowed before 12 PM. The polar bear was adorable, swimming happily in its ice pool, bringing joy to everyone watching. The red panda was incredibly cute, and the zoo has a wide variety of monkeys to see. Visiting on a Sunday and taking the bus is not recommended as the place gets quite crowded. A delightful experience overall!

Awesome place to visit with your kids. We enjoyed our visit with our one year old baby who was very amazed to see various different animals for the first time.

Nihondaira Zoo is a fantastic destination, especially for families and animal lovers! The capybara exhibit was a highlight, and each animal’s environment is thoughtfully designed, making it enjoyable to explore. The zoo has a diverse collection of animals, ensuring there's something for everyone. The staff were exceptionally helpful, providing clear information and directions, and the amenities were clean and well-maintained. I highly recommend Nihondaira Zoo for a fun and memorable outing!
Richard E — Google review
Although the animals look a little sad and stressed out, the zoo is pretty small and has lots of animals in a small space so you don't have to walk as much as an American zoo. The tiger is trapped in like a one bedroom space and elephant is by itself even if it's illegal to have elephant by itself in the US cus it's supposed to be in packs in many acres of land. This zoo had it's elephant in a tiny tiny jail kind of space. The curry in the cafeteria was so good.
Eri W — Google review
A nice and clean quaint zoo that started in the 60s. Most of the animals seemed content and well cared for. I enjoyed my time here. Watch out for school trips as the zoo can become quite busy.

Castle
Sumpu Castle Park, nestled in the heart of Shizuoka, is a captivating blend of history and natural beauty. This city park is renowned for its stunning cherry blossoms that bloom each spring, drawing visitors from near and far. The park encompasses the reconstructed remains of Sumpu Castle, originally built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in the early 1600s. Surrounded by two moats and impressive stone walls, it offers a glimpse into Japan's feudal past.
There's no actual castle there, not even a reproduction. But it's a historically important place as the location where Ieyasu Tokugawa retired after being the first shogun. Now it's a peaceful park in the middle of the city.
Roland H — Google review
Free charge. There is a statue of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and it is the place where he spent his later years. Good place of walking and running.

Nice walking area with several paths, a nice garden, and two historical museums. Though the museums are 95% japanese text as of April 2024. There's also a nice 30 minute boat ride around the moat for 1000¥. The boat tour guide only speaks in Japanese as well but that's okay, you can focus on taking pictures. Note at the end of the ride the roof is lowered and you have to bend down while you go under the low bridge. One tip, board on the left side of the boat which means you'll be on the right side while going around the park. It has a better view for pictures most of the ride.

Went to the park that has Tokugawa Ieyasu statue and his orange groves. Was very impressed and nice to make his acquaintance. I traveled to Shizuoka and have learned a lot in the last two days and having a guide helped because I was able to go to all the places of interest that I wanted to experience. Took many pictures of trees and the moat area as well. Shizuoka is an interesting place and everyone should visit this place at least once in their life.

Sunpu Castle At Aoi-Ku, Shizuoka, Shizuoka.Japan Relaxing .a MUST see in the list ! The castle grounds are now replaced by a nice and relaxing park. Nonetheless a lot of castle remains can be found throughout the park. In the big park signs are everywhere to make sure you will not get lost. The park itself is very peaceful and nicely set up. It is also used for all kind of public activities. One has to pay to enter the Sumpu Castle Park though (Adults ¥360, children less) as well as additionally fees if you wish to visit one or both of the reconstructed turrets.

(Translated by Google) This was the site of the local community association's inspection training. It was my first time entering a Self-Defense Force base. Surprisingly, the welcome mode was in full swing, and I was able to enjoy myself to the fullest, although of course the area was limited to areas that the general public could enter. First, an explanation from the public relations officer. This is also interesting! It's a story that can be explained as a self-defense force organization, and I never get tired of it 👍 Afterwards, there will be lots to see, including an explanation of the fire engines that are always available at airports around the country, a ride experience, and a tour of water spray! ! Next, we saw the training planes that can only be found at a pilot training school, and observed the takeoff and landing of training planes, followed by an explanation of the equipment used in large-scale disaster relief operations. All the members gave detailed explanations. We stayed for about two hours, but the time went by in the blink of an eye. Thank you to all the members. It was a very good experience♪ (Original)

Unfortunately, it was a cloudy day, but they flew safely and showed off a lot of tricks. Everyone was excited to see where they would come from, and when someone said, "It's over there!" everyone took out their cameras at once, and it felt like the audience was one. I was able to see various airplanes up close, and I also saw a tank. The tank's trick of spinning around was a bit choking on the exhaust fumes. But it was surprising that such a large vehicle could be so maneuverable. There were also goods for sale and food trucks at the venue, so we had a lot of fun. I reached the limit of the number of photos, so I couldn't post photos of the food, but everything was delicious. I'm looking forward to going to the air show in 2025 as well. Nature & Parks
Yoshida Park is a spacious green area with paved paths and a large grassy space for picnics and sports. The park's size exceeds expectations, as it appears bigger than indicated on the map. During weekends, the park attracts numerous visitors engaging in various activities such as games, biking, skating, and quality time with their families. It is an ideal location for photography enthusiasts looking to capture beautiful moments or individuals seeking relaxation through leisurely walks.
This park is bigger that I thought. The best time to visit is autumn. Very hard to access by public transport. So better to use bicycle or car to get here.
