Bharachukki Waterfalls

Waterfalls
Barachukki Waterfalls is a stunning attraction located in southern Karnataka that has been generating hydroelectric power since 1902. It is one of the pair of island waterfalls situated in a deep gorge, offering breathtaking views especially during the rainy season. The official visiting hours are from 9am to 5pm and there is a nominal fee for vehicles (10rs for bike). Visitors can enjoy ample parking space and benches while taking in the beauty of the falls.
I recently visited Bharachukki Waterfall, and it was an amazing experience! Located in Shivanasamudra, around 130 km from Bengaluru, this spot is perfect for a short road trip. The journey was pleasant with greenery and small villages along the way, but the real reward was the view that awaited. The waterfall is massive and truly spectacular, with water gushing down the rocky cliffs into a wide pool below. The sound of the falling water combined with the cool breeze makes the whole atmosphere refreshing and peaceful. The place also offers nice viewpoints where you can sit, relax, and enjoy nature at its best. What I really loved about Bharachukki is how close you can get to the falls compared to Gaganachukki. It gives you the chance to truly admire its beauty. The mist and spray from the waterfall make the surroundings even more magical. It’s also a great spot for photography, especially during the monsoon season when the flow is at its peak. The area can get crowded on weekends, so visiting early in the morning is ideal for a more peaceful experience. Overall, Bharachukki Waterfall is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature and scenic beauty.

Visited Barachukki Falls 💦 over the weekend and had a really nice experience! ☀️ Though the sun was shining bright on top of our heads, the view of the falls was totally worth it — such a stunning sight! 🌈 The safety measures were good, and everything was quite well-managed despite the weekend crowd. 👏 There’s free parking 🅿️, and plenty of food stalls 🍢🥤 to grab a quick bite or drink. You’ll also find lots of monkeys 🐒, so keep your snacks safe! 😅 Horse rides 🐎 are available, adding a bit of fun for kids and families. Plus, there’s an instant photography option 📸 where you can get your pictures printed on the spot — a great souvenir to take home! It was a bit crowded since we visited on a weekend, but overall it’s a beautiful and refreshing spot 💧 to relax and enjoy nature with family and friends. 🌿✨
Kavya S — Google review
It's a very quiet and calm place to visit with family and friends and enjoy the day. Best time to visit during October to December. During rainy season also it will be good but when it's too much rainy can't enjoy as expected. At the main entry they collect entry charge for vehicle and at the entry of falls again they collect entry charges of 10 each per head. They are just collecting the entry fees but not improved the place. At the main entry they have mentioned as plastic free zone and near the falls area they have given permission to stalls where we can find Plastics dumped everywhere. No cleanliness maintained near falls. Also people and tourists who visit here are careless and dump and throw plastic where all they find place. Stalls should be evacuated from the falls area and keep the area neat and clean. Some higher officials with police protection and security visit the place and are least bothered about the surrounding nature and just get their family selfie and photos and just get out from their. If they show some interest and advice the personnel there to keep the surroundings clean then it would be more beautiful to visit the falls area.
Santosh B — Google review
I have visited Barachukki falls on Sunday, 3rd Aug’25. It was an amazing experience. The waterfall massive, magnificent and spectacular. It is located around 125kms from Bangalore and it takes around 2.5 hours to reach there. Place is usually much crowded on weekends and on public holiday. Best time to visit: July to September (based on monsoon season). Morning hours preferred so that place is not fully crowded. Tickets are available at front gate. Paid car parking space is available nearby.
Sadashiv K — Google review
Great falls to visit on a weekday with no crowds, due extended monsoons the falls are full even at the end of Oct. Has good parking and some what clean wash paid rooms. Good views from the lower view point requiring few steps. One can spend about 30 min to enjoy the falls and take some pictures. Closer to the main gate behind the Darga, there are Gaganchukki falls view from a different, parking is available but there is no good view point as the place is barricaded with steel mesh. The road after turning from NH 948 is pot holed at many places. The stone pillars old bridge is an ancient engineering work, stop here for few minutes to enjoy the architecture of the bridge built on stone columns. Cauvery Water flowing on rock beds here is a very beautiful sight to watch for long.

Bharachukki Waterfalls – A Breathtaking but Adventurous Experience 🌊🌿 We visited Bharachukki Waterfalls recently, and it was an unforgettable experience! Located near Shivanasamudra (around 130 km from Bengaluru), this place is perfect for a short road trip surrounded by greenery, small villages, and scenic countryside views. The drive itself feels refreshing, but the real magic begins once you reach the falls. The waterfall is massive and mesmerizing, with water gushing down rocky cliffs into a wide pool below. The mist, the roar of the falls, and the cool breeze create an incredibly peaceful and energizing vibe — truly nature at its best. You also get some great viewpoints for photography and relaxation. We decided to go closer to the falls, and honestly, that turned into a mini adventure! We went through a jungle trail to reach the water — it was thrilling but also quite risky, especially during summer when the rocks are dry, uneven, and slippery. It’s definitely not recommended unless you’re experienced and careful. Still, that close view of the powerful cascade was absolutely worth it! During monsoon, the waterfall is even more spectacular — full flow, mist everywhere, and a magical atmosphere. However, parking and crowd management could be better, especially on weekends, so visiting early morning or on a weekday is ideal for a peaceful experience. Overall, Bharachukki Falls is a must-visit if you love nature, road trips, and scenic beauty — just respect the terrain, stay safe, and let the waterfall do its magic. 💧✨

Shivanasamudra Waterfalls – Gagana Chukki & Bhara Chukki Shivanasamudra is truly a gem of Karnataka, consisting of two majestic waterfalls – Gagana Chukki and Bhara Chukki. Though both are part of the same Kaveri river, the viewpoints are about 15 km apart, each offering a unique perspective of nature’s beauty. I recently visited and was amazed by the breathtaking views. The drive from Mysore is around 85 km, making it a perfect day trip. Weekends can get crowded, but the sight of the cascading water is absolutely worth it. ✅ Free parking available ✅ Plenty of local snack shops around the viewpoints ✅ Scenic drive and photo-worthy spots If you’re planning a visit, I’d recommend going early in the day to avoid heavy crowds and to enjoy the serenity of the waterfalls. A must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers alike!

I recently visited Shivanasamudra Falls, and it was such a refreshing experience! 🌊 Surrounded by lush greenery and the sound of gushing water, it’s the perfect getaway from Bengaluru (around 2–3 hours drive). The twin cascades — Gaganachukki and Bharachukki — are simply breathtaking. ⚠️ Things to keep in mind: Best visited right after the monsoons (July–October) when the flow is strong 🌧️ Can get crowded on weekends, so weekdays are better for a peaceful experience Limited food options nearby, so carrying snacks/water helps 🍴

Shri Chennakeshava Swamy Temple (Somanathapura) - UNESCO Heritage site

During our recent trip to Mysore, we had the pleasure of visiting the Somnathapura Temple, and it was absolutely worth it! I highly recommend setting aside half a day or more to truly soak in the beauty and history of this incredible site. The parking fee was a reasonable Rs. 40, and the entry fee was just Rs. 20 per person—definitely a steal for such an enriching experience. As soon as we arrived, we understood why this temple is nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The intricate carvings and detailed sculptures left us in awe; it's hard to believe that such artistry was achieved entirely by hand! The patience and skill of the artisans who created this masterpiece are truly commendable. One of the aspects I appreciated most about Somnathapura Temple was the absence of pandits and rituals inside, unlike many other temples. This allowed us to explore the temple freely without any restrictions on photography. We were able to wander around, taking in every corner and sculpture at our own pace, which made the experience even more memorable. If you're in the Mysore area, don't miss out on visiting Somnathapura Temple—it's a hidden gem that offers a glimpse into India's rich cultural heritage!
Amit K — Google review
The temple's architecture is equally impressive, with its star-shaped plan and soaring tower. The use of soapstone as the primary building material has allowed for the creation of incredibly intricate carvings, which seem to shimmer and glow in the soft light. One of the most striking features of the temple is its use of symmetry and balance. Every element, from the placement of the deities to the design of the carvings, seems to be carefully planned to create a sense of harmony and balance. Overall, the Somnathpur Keshava Temple is a true masterpiece of Indian architecture and a testament to the skill and creativity of the Hoysala artisans. If you're ever in the area, it's definitely worth a visit.

Shri Chennakeshava Swamy Temple, Belur. A place where words fall short and even the best photographs fail to capture its soul. Standing before this 12th-century Hoysala masterpiece, I felt like I was walking inside a living scripture. Every inch of this temple carved from soapstone carries a story… scenes from the Ramayana, Lord Vishnu’s divine forms, dancers, warriors, celestial beings — all frozen in time yet so alive to the heart. It’s humbling to think that centuries ago, in golden evenings lit by countless diyas and moonlight, this temple must have shimmered like a dream. I could almost imagine the hymns in the air, the fragrance of incense, and devotees circling the temple with faith as unshakeable as the stone beneath their feet. If only stones could speak. What moved me even more is its resilience. Despite invasions and destruction over hundreds of years, this sacred site still stands tall — strong, intricate, proud… as though protecting every story it ever held. The carvings are so detailed that not a single corner is left untouched, reminding us of the unmatched brilliance and devotion of its creators. And today, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it continues to shine — beautifully maintained, peaceful, clean (even the restrooms were spotless!), and deeply rooted in cultural pride. Walking here, I didn’t just see history… I felt it. Forever grateful for places like these that remind us who we are, where we come from, and how rich our heritage truly is. If you ever want to touch history with your soul, stand here, listen to the silence, and let the stone tell its stories.

Shri Chennakeshava Swamy Temple is about an hour’s scooter ride from Mysore, and the journey itself is beautiful, passing through the South Indian countryside. This 13th-century UNESCO temple isn’t very large, but it’s definitely worth a visit. You can easily spend around an hour exploring the carvings and atmosphere, and the entry fee is only about 3 USD (parking not included). It was calm and quiet when I went (especially during the monsoon season), which made it a perfect place for silence, reflection, and of course some beautiful photos. You can hire a guide if you’d like, but with a bit of AI assistance for dates and background info, I felt I got along just fine — and honestly, how many numbers and years do we really remember? If you do decide on a guide, read up beforehand about realistic fees and tipping. I’d recommend planning half a day: visit the temple, enjoy the peaceful vibe, and maybe tie it in with a short tour around the surrounding area. A wonderful spot for both culture and calm. The Chennakesava Temple, also referred to as Chennakeshava Temple and Keshava Temple, is a Vaishnava Hindu temple on the banks of River Kaveri at Somanathapura, Mysuru, Karnataka, India. The temple was consecrated in 1258 CE by Somanatha Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala King Narasimha III. The stone carvings are very intricate and very beautiful. This temple is built using interlocking mechanisms and complete temple can be dissembled and assembled. Please do not touch the carvings it’s been already destroyed by Muslim invaders, as a responsible citizen of India we will preserve and respect the monument and surroundings too.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem of Hoysala Artistry – Must Visit! One of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture, this 13th-century temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and rightly so. Every inch of the star-shaped structure is covered in jaw-dropping carvings, from mythological stories to intricate patterns and celestial dancers. The craftsmanship here is beyond imagination, with over 600 unique sculptures and perfectly polished stone pillars. A guided visit makes it even more fascinating—don’t skip it! ✅ Clean premises, easy parking, and well-maintained by ASI ✅ Best visited in the morning to avoid heat and crowd ✅ Entry: ₹25 (Indians), camera allowed If you're near Mysore or Bangalore, this is a must-see heritage site. Terraced gardens featuring colourful ornamentals, plus fountain shows & views of the adjacent dam.
Brindavan Garden is one of the most beautiful attractions in Mysuru. The lush greenery, sparkling fountains, and calm lake view make it a peaceful retreat. In the evening, the musical fountain show with colorful lights creates a truly magical atmosphere. It’s a perfect place to visit with family or friends, and every corner is picture-perfect. The serene vibe here makes you want to visit again and again. ✨🌷
BIKASH — Google review
Brindavan Garden in Mysore is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Karnataka and is well known for its beautiful layout, musical fountain, and scenic beauty. The garden is located near the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam, and the view of the dam from the garden is truly delightful, especially during sunset when the sky reflects on the water, creating a stunning scene. The garden itself is beautifully designed with symmetrical lawns, colorful flower beds, and fountains spread across the area. The musical fountain show in the evening is the main highlight and draws a large crowd. The lights, music, and water display create a magical atmosphere that everyone enjoys, especially families and children. However, the cleanliness and maintenance of the garden are not up to the mark. Some areas are littered with plastic bottles and food wrappers, and the pathways need better care. The benches and lights in certain sections also look old and could use renovation. The authorities should focus more on maintaining hygiene, cleanliness, and overall management to preserve the beauty of this historic place. Crowd management is another area that needs improvement, as the garden becomes very crowded during weekends and holidays, making it difficult to enjoy peacefully. Despite these issues, the garden still remains a pleasant place to visit for its ambiance and scenic beauty. Overall, Brindavan Garden is a lovely tourist spot with great potential, but it definitely needs better maintenance and cleanliness to give visitors a more enjoyable experience. With a little more care from the management, it can once again become one of the most beautiful and well-kept gardens in India.

A Magical Evening at Brindavan Gardens! (5/5 Stars) Brindavan Gardens is an absolute must-visit when you are in Mysore. It truly deserves every one of its five stars! The sheer scale and meticulous symmetry of the terraced gardens are breathtaking. Walking through the pathways, lined with vibrant flowers and perfectly manicured hedges, felt incredibly calming and refreshing. The way the gardens are laid out, leading down to the reservoir, creates stunning panoramic views, especially at sunset. However, the real spectacle begins after dark: the Musical Fountain Show. The way the water dances in rhythm with the music and colored lights is pure magic—a genuinely captivating experience that draws the crowds. It is well-organized and a perfect culmination to the visit. It's clear that the entire complex is beautifully maintained, making the entire visit a clean and enjoyable experience. Tip: Get there an hour before the fountain show starts to secure a good viewing spot and enjoy the peaceful sunset views over the Cauvery River. It's a perfect spot for families, couples, or anyone seeking natural beauty and delightful entertainment. Highly, highly recommended!

Where Lights, Water, and Music Dance Together – Brindavan Gardens, Mysuru Just below the mighty Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Dam, lies one of India’s most enchanting spots — the Brindavan Gardens. 🌿✨ It’s not just a garden; it’s an experience that blends nature, architecture, and art into a living melody. Built in the 1930s under the vision of Sir Mirza Ismail, the then Dewan of Mysore, these gardens were inspired by the Mughal-style terrace designs — symmetric lawns, colorful flowerbeds, water channels, and dancing fountains that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a royal dream. 👑🌺 Walking through Brindavan Gardens is pure magic — the gentle mist from the fountains, the reflection of the KRS Dam on the water, and the sound of laughter echoing through the soft evening air. As the sun sets, the entire place transforms — thousands of lights flicker on, and the musical fountain show begins, where water dances to the rhythm of music and colorful lights fill the night. 🎶💧 Couples, families, and travelers from all over India come here to witness that one unforgettable scene — water and light performing in harmony against the backdrop of the dam. The atmosphere feels festive yet peaceful, romantic yet serene. Pro Tip: Visit just before sunset to enjoy both the daylight beauty and the illuminated night view. Don’t miss the musical fountain show (6:30 PM – 7:30 PM) and the short boat ride — they’re worth every moment. Brindavan Gardens isn’t just about flowers and fountains — it’s about how art, water, and light can come together to create emotion. A timeless place where nature smiles, and Mysuru’s royal charm still blooms. 💫

Brindavan Garden is a lovely place to spend your evening, especially if you enjoy wide, open spaces. It can get crowded on weekends, but because the garden is quite spacious, it still feels comfortable to walk around and enjoy the views. There is an entry fee, and once inside, you can explore the beautifully maintained pathways and fountains. The main highlight is the musical fountain and light show, held between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM. The colorful lights and music make it a must-watch and the garden looks even more magical after sunset.

Brindavan garden is huge big and people need to get ticket for one person 100₹,evening and early morning is best time for less crowd on weekdays and carry water.Need to walk for 1-2 hours to cover all the garden. Toilets are not maintained and smells.Need to pay for using toilet. Light show is after 6pm. During afternoon it will be sunny and difficult to walk.Cleanliness is less, many plastic waste around.no proper security for maintaining and checking these things. Beautiful place and good for photography but management has to take care properly.

It’s an educational and enjoyable experience for both kids and adults. A must-visit attraction in Mysore! 🌿✨

The zoo was a delightful experience overall, offering a pleasant atmosphere for all visitors. I observed that the entire facility was meticulously maintained, contributing to a sense of order and care. The diverse range of animals present truly captivated my attention, showcasing a rich variety of species. It was a very enjoyable experience, and I highly recommend visiting. I appreciate the work that goes into maintaining the zoo. Please carry cash, as UPI is not accepted here.

visited Mysuru Zoo and really enjoyed the experience. I got to see the tiger, hippo, leopard, cheetah and giraffe, which was the highlight of my visit. All the animals looked healthy and active. The zoo is clean, well maintained and has lots of trees, so walking around felt relaxing. There are benches and water points along the way, which was helpful. The information boards near the animals were also easy to understand. It's a great place to visit with family and kids. Overall, I had a very good time at Mysuru Zoo and would definitely recommend it. Note: eat well before you enter

Time :- 3 to 5 hours total 3 km .

An absolute wow! Probably the best zoo in the whole country. All the animals are given plenty of space to wander around. So many species of animals, birds... And they even got some rare species, like white peacock, bengal tiger, black swan, etc. The zoo is veryyyy big, so u can easily spend ur whole afternoon here. They have clean restrooms, places for seating everywhere, and that too in a reasonable ticketprice... They also apply stickers on the plastic items u carry inside, in order to ensure no spoiling. Overall, loved it ✨

Mysore zoo has always been great. It is one of the best zoo in the country. It is quite large with a lot of collection of different animals. Although zoo is not the right way to see animals where they are kept in captivity, Mysore zoo has kept the animals enclosures as close to their natural habitat environment as possible. The design of the animal enclosures are quite good and no compromise on the space. The animals also appear well fed and healthy. The zoo is almost always crowded. The zoo is quite large and the entire walk around the zoo is more than 2.6 km. But battery operated carts are available for the elderly and those in need. Plastic is not permitted inside the zoo. They collect ₹10 in case you are taking any plastic inside the zoo. This is refunded if you show the same when you come out of the zoo. There are lots of trash cans inside. Adequate toilets are also available inside. The full trip to the zoo could take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours depending on how fast one can walk. There is a lake with boating facility adjacent to the zoo. If one wishes, a combined ticket to the zoo and lake can be purchased.
ADISHANKAR — Google review
One of the well maintained and the biggest zoo in South India. All the animals and birds looks active, if you visit in the morning soon after the opening time. You can see lots of big trees and resting seats all over the zoo. Trees are properly maintained. Animals are fed on time. We happened to see some doctors checking up with the animal caretakers. The entire zoo holds around 3km of area, so you will be burning up your calories for sure. A must visit place in mysore, if you have kids. Also, you can book your tickets through scanning the QR code shown before the ticket counter. So, the payment can be done through UPI without any hassles. You need not stand in the que for tickets. This is very much appreciative.
Vibes S — Google review
Mysore Zoo is beautifully maintained and easily one of the best zoos in India. The variety of animals is impressive lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and many rare birds. The enclosures are spacious, and the greenery inside makes walking around very pleasant. You can choose how you want to explore: take the battery operated bogey ride if you want to cover the zoo quickly, or walk if you’d like to really see and experience everything at your own pace. Walking gives you the full feel of the place, but the ride is a good option if you’re short on time or with small kids. Weekdays or mornings are the best time to avoid heavy crowds. Overall, a must visit in Mysore for families, kids, or anyone who enjoys nature and wildlife.

Mysore Palace, a stunning Indo-Saracenic architectural marvel completed in 1912, boasts a grand durbar hall and hosts weekly illuminations. The palace is famous for the traditional Dasara procession, Jamboo Savari, featuring a decorated elephant carrying the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari during Vijaya Dashami. This centuries-old celebration was initiated by Raja Wodeyar in 1610 and has continued uninterrupted.
A palace well maintained by the Mysuru Royal Family. Clean space with history and stories hidden in every corner. Beautiful intricate designs to be seen everywhere. Worth visiting. There are food stall and ample space to store luggage with safety. Entry fee charged for adults ₹100.

I visited this palace when during my childhood, and it looks as stunning as it is even today as well. The painting and drawings on the walls are so beautiful and real that it gives a lifelong memories. Must visit if you want to let your child understand the history from closer lense.

Palace is absolutely beautiful! It closes at 5:30 PM, so it’s better to visit inside during the day. But if you really want to see the best part, come back in the evening. After 7 PM, the whole palace lights up and it looks magical! The lighting is so nice and gives a completely different vibe. Definitely worth experiencing if you’re in Mysore.

Mysore Palace is truly a sight to behold! The grandeur, artwork, and royal architecture still make it one of the most stunning palaces in India. The interiors are beautifully preserved and showcase the rich heritage of the Wadiyar dynasty — every hall and corridor has a story to tell. However, the exterior does seem to be losing a bit of its charm over the years and could use better maintenance, as some areas appear slightly faded. But once you step inside, the craftsmanship and vibrant detailing easily make up for it. Overall, it’s a must-visit landmark in Mysore — majestic, historic, and perfect for photography and architecture lovers.

Mysore Palace is absolutely stunning and a must-visit landmark in Karnataka. The architecture is majestic, especially when viewed during sunset. The interiors are beautifully maintained, with intricate carvings, colourful ceilings, and royal artefacts that reflect the rich history of the Wadiyar dynasty. The nightlight show is fantastic and worth staying for.The place can get crowded, especially on holidays, but the management handles it well. Parking is available nearby. Highly recommend visiting early morning or evening for the best experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Royal Grandeur at Its Finest! Mysuru Palace is the heart and pride of the city — a magnificent symbol of royal heritage and architectural brilliance. The intricate interiors, stained glass windows, ornate ceilings, and beautifully carved doors leave you in awe at every step. The palace perfectly showcases the rich history and culture of the Wadiyar dynasty. The palace grounds are spacious and beautifully maintained, with helpful guides and clear information boards that make the visit more insightful. The evening illumination is absolutely breathtaking — thousands of lights outlining the palace make it a truly magical sight that shouldn’t be missed. A must-visit for anyone coming to Mysuru — it’s not just a monument, but an experience that captures the royal spirit of Karnataka.

Mysore Palace is undoubtedly a magnificent sight and a must-see for its stunning architecture and royal history. However, it tends to get extremely crowded, especially on weekends, so visiting on weekdays is a better idea. The premises are fairly neat, but cleanliness could definitely be improved. The free audio guide centre was not functional during my visit — it should really be made operational to enhance the visitor experience.

Shree Chamundeshwari Devi Temple

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Perched atop the Chamundi hills in Mysore, the Mysuru Shri Chamundeshwari Thayi Temple is a traditional Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Durga. It features statues of Nandi and Mahishasura, the demon, and offers breathtaking panoramic views. The temple is steeped in history and legend, with its rituals closely tied to the story of goddess Chamundeshwari's triumph over the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura.
The Chamundeshwari Temple is one of the most sacred and iconic temples in Mysore, situated on the Chamundi Hills. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of Mysore. The atmosphere here is very peaceful and spiritual, with a beautiful view of the entire Mysore city from the hilltop. ✨ Highlights: The temple’s architecture is stunning with its tall, intricately carved gopuram. Well-maintained premises and a strong spiritual vibe. Panoramic view of Mysore Palace and the city lights from the hill. Free shoe-stand and drinking water facility available. ⏰ Best Time to Visit: Early morning or evening to avoid crowds and enjoy pleasant weather. 🚗 Accessibility: You can reach the temple by car, bus, or even by climbing the 1,000+ steps for a divine experience.
Lalit S — Google review
Chamundeshwari Hill Temple in Mysuru is a must-visit landmark for its striking seven-tiered gopuram, panoramic city views, and powerful spiritual vibe. The temple’s Dravidian architecture and ancient history, with the iconic Chamundi idol symbolizing the victory over Mahishasura, create a truly atmospheric setting. Clean premises, ample space, and easy access make the visit comfortable. The massive Nandi statue on the 700 step is a highlight not to miss alongwith mahabaleshwar and narayana temple just behind chamundi temple. You can sit on stairs behind Mahabaleshwar Temple to enjoy sunset
Mahesh K — Google review
The Shree Chamundeshwari Devi Temple, perched atop the scenic Chamundi Hills, is more than just a religious site—it is the very heart and soul of Mysuru, offering an unforgettable blend of spirituality, history, and natural beauty. My visit here was truly a highlight of exploring the city. The temple is a revered Shakti Peetha, deeply rooted in mythology as the place where Goddess Chamundeshwari (a fierce form of Shakti) slew the demon king Mahishasura, from whom the name 'Mysuru' is derived. Dating back to the 12th century, the temple’s current magnificence is largely due to the patronage of the Wodeyar royal family, who adopted the Goddess as their tutelary deity. The temple is a stellar example of Dravidian architecture, instantly recognizable by its towering, seven-tiered Gopuram (entrance tower), which is adorned with intricate carvings and topped with seven golden Kalashas. The silver-plated entrance doors and the peaceful atmosphere inside the Navaranga Hall truly convey a sense of ancient, royal devotion. The location itself, nearly 3,500 feet above sea level, is captivating. The drive up the hill is scenic, and the summit offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city of Mysuru. From the viewpoint, you can clearly see landmarks like the Mysore Palace and Karanji Lake. For those interested in a spiritual and physical challenge, the climb up the 1,008 steps is highly recommended, as is stopping to admire the colossal monolithic Nandi statue—Lord Shiva's mount—situated halfway up the hill. As the temple attracts devotees globally, it can get very crowded, especially on weekends and during the auspicious Ashada Shukravara (Fridays in Ashada month) and the spectacular Dasara festival. To ensure a smoother darshan, I highly recommend purchasing the Special Entry Ticket (₹100) or the VIP Darshan Ticket (₹300) to bypass the longer general queue. Public transport via KSRTC buses is frequent, and ample (paid) parking is available. Remember to follow the modest dress code and note that the hill area is strictly a No Plastic Zone.
Sreedevi B — Google review
Visited the Chamundeshwari Temple on Nov 1st during Rajyotsava— the darshan itself was truly divine and powerful, you can really feel the energy of the goddess. However, the overall experience was quite stressful. The temple gets extremely crowded, especially on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Even with a VIP pass, we had to wait for hours in the queue. Entry tickets cost ₹30 for general darshan and ₹100 for special darshan, but everything is cash only. Crowd management was poor, with no separate lines for senior citizens, families with small kids, or differently-abled devotees. It was hard to stand for long, and the pushing made it uncomfortable. The staff were not very polite, and there was a lot of confusion inside. Parking was also badly managed, adding to the frustration.Govt really need to improve crowd management and cleanliness of Chamundi devi temple. On the positive side, the temple’s divine atmosphere, architecture, and the powerful darshan of Chamundeshwari Devi make it worth visiting at least once. The authorities just need to improve arrangements so devotees can experience peace along with devotion.
Santosh S — Google review
Chamundi Temple is a beautiful and divine place in Mysuru, built during the reign of the Mysore Wadiyar kings. It is believed that Goddess Chamundeshwari killed the demon Mahishasura here, which is how Mysuru got its name. The temple’s 1,008 stone steps and the massive Nandi statue carved from a single rock reflect its glorious history. They also serve delicious prasada at specific timings (as captured in the picture). This sacred temple should be well maintained for future generations, and it’s our duty to keep the surroundings clean and preserve its devotion and heritage. A must-visit! 🙏

Temple is good it is on the chamundi hill, here you can see devi chamundi statue inside the temple by puchasing the ticket (general ticket- 30 Rupess, VIP Datshan- 100 Rupess) per person. You can visit nandi statue which is nearby to the temple nearly 300 steps down. You can have a picture with most famous Mahisasura statue. Near the mahisasura statue only you can get the bus also to enter in the city again. Don't forget to take picture here from the hill top from where you can see the whoe Mysore city.

While tiger sightings are not guaranteed, the journey through the deep forest is described as breathtaking. Visitors should be prepared to exercise patience and maintain silence during the safari.
I visited Bandipur Tiger Reserve in the afternoon and had a wonderful experience. Although I didn’t spot a tiger, I saw plenty of wildlife, including many beautiful peacocks, playful monkeys, majestic elephants, and lots of deer. Pls pick camper or gypsy don't go for bus safari , they won't take you many places , the moment the bus starts from ticker counter that timings starts which does not make any sense , from ticket counter to safari road it will take 30 mins , so in ( Bus safari )90 mins 30 mins is wasted , better choose to camper or gypsy , mainly to spot tiger you need a sheer luck but however even they wont put any efforts on that.

There’s a good mix of colorful blooms, tall old trees, and some rare plant varieties that you don’t usually see elsewhere. The garden is spacious, clean, and well-maintained, making it perfect for families and anyone who just wants a peaceful break. It can get a bit crowded during peak season, but the overall vibe is still relaxing. A simple, pleasant spot that leaves you feeling refreshed.

Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

Wildlife and safari park
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Tholpetty, is a part of the Banasurasagar Project and offers a picturesque sight with the Banasura hills in the background. The sanctuary features various forest types including tropical moist dry deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, along with teak, eucalyptus, silver oak, and rosewood plantations covering about one third of the area.
A less visited wildlife sanctuary and safari compared to the nearby Nagarhole and Kabini safaris. The chances of sightings of big cats are less here owing to the dense foliage and relatively high rainfall and resulting greenery. As on April 2025, there are 15 jeeps in the morning and 15 jeeps in the evening on a first come first serve basis. No online booking option is there. Jeep safari is for about an hour and a half, costs 2100 for a jeep with 4 people (I am not sure if it's 3 or 4) with 350 Rs for every additional person. Duration is for about 1.5 hours. There is only one fixed route for both morning and evening safaris. I went in April and had sightings of elephants, gaurs, spotted deers and numerous birds. As per the jeep drivers, chances of big cat sightings are more during their mating season (Nov to Mar) here, unlike in other places (like Kabini in summer).

A good ride through the forest. But couldn't find a great verity of animals. It depends. You really get a great time with the nature and fresh air. Could spot the footprints of tiger. There is a change in the timings. The safari starts from 6 am to 10 am in the morning and 3 pm to 6 pm in the evening. 60 trips per day. 30 in the morning and 30 trips afternoon. So if you are planning to go on weekends and holidays be sure you reach at the earliest. And. The best time to go for is from November to jan. The climate also too good. Maximum number of people that can travel in a jeep is 7. It starts from 3-4. Costs 2100rs. One guide will accompany you to describe things and helps you to spot the animals.
Jain J — Google review
Better to buy tickets online a day before through keralaecotourism website. There are two slots, one morning 6 and evening at 3. Animal sighting is purely based on your luck but signs of animals can be found there, even tiger marks.
Athif A — Google review
The safari last 1.5 hours, costs rs2250 per jeep, so its affordable. its one single road to enter and exit from the other side, its not like Kabini or Nagarhole which branches out like a combing search safari. Its hard to spot animals coz of the thick forest. We spotted Elephants, Sambar deer, tortoises, giant squirrel
Bhaskar R — Google review
We participated in a Sunday evening safari during rainy season at Tholpetty Wildlife sanctuary. Overall, the experience was pleasant, but compared less favorably to the similar offering 20 km away at Nagarhole in Karnataka (see below for details), which we did the next day. For one jeep with 5 people (including a 5 year old child), we paid Rs. 5500, compared to Nagarhole, where the per-person charge was Rs. 1000/adult, 500/child. Pros: No wait. Was able to pay by foreign credit card without a problem. Note to foreign travelers: one passport is required for identification purposes). The tour lasted about two hours. We saw one elephant—a tusker!) deep in the woods and one peacock, but that’s it. Since this was rainy season, wildlife sightings are much rarer. Cons: The safari vehicle used was cramped and very inconducive both to comfort and wildlife viewing as the seats faced inward with very little head clearance and very little window surface area. See photo for comparison to the Nagarhole (Karnataka) safari vehicle. In terms of price, I might be wrong about this, but I believe that one has to rent the entire jeep at a cost of Rs. 5000, which may not be economical for smaller groups. Overall, if you are visiting the Tholpetty area and cannot make the short drive to the Karnataka side of the forest, then this excursion is recommended. I would strongly suggest trying to do so in the dry season to maximize chances of wildlife sightings. If only possible to visit during the rainy season, I would favor the Nagarhole side both for price (pay per head as opposed to per vehicle), vehicle design/comfort and wildlife viewing opportunities.

We haven't seen anything except deer inside the forest. Despite travelling 1.5 hrs through the forest with 4500 INR loss, nothing could be seen. And road was completely offroad (I mean not good for old members)

Good forest range. It's a buffer forest. Recommended to go in summer if you want to spot wildlife. If you just want to see the vegetation then monsoon or winter.
Bharath C — Google review
Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the northern part of Wayanad, is one of Kerala’s most captivating wildlife destinations. The sanctuary offers an authentic forest experience, where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of untouched nature. The jeep safari, usually conducted early in the morning or late in the afternoon, is the best way to explore the park. As you move through the dense forests and open grasslands, there’s a high chance of spotting deer, elephants, gaurs, peacocks, and a wide variety of birds. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a leopard or the majestic Bengal tiger. The forest is peaceful, with a calmness that makes the experience refreshing and memorable. The guides are knowledgeable and ensure safety while sharing insightful details about the flora and fauna. The sanctuary is well maintained, and the natural landscape—misty air, towering trees, and serene lakes—adds to the charm. Tholpetty is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to disconnect from city life. While sightings aren’t always guaranteed, the overall atmosphere makes the visit worthwhile. It’s a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility, offering a true taste of Kerala’s rich wildlife heritage.

I visited the Ooty Rose Garden with a lot of excitement because every time I’ve gone in the past, it was full of colourful roses and truly eye-relaxing views. But this time, I was honestly shocked. There were almost no roses at all, and the entire place looked empty and dull. It felt completely waste to visit. I even asked the workers there, and they said May is the peak season, so that’s why there were no blooms now. Maybe that is true, but still I didn’t expect the garden to look this plain. I went only because of the beautiful memories I had from previous visits, but this time it was very disappointing. I hope they maintain it better throughout the year or at least inform visitors about the off-season, because people travel a long way expecting to see roses.

Ooty Lake is one of the most iconic attractions in the hill station of Ooty, and it offers a pleasant escape for anyone looking to unwind amid nature. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees and gentle hills, the lake has a charming calmness that makes it perfect for a leisurely afternoon. The highlight here is boating—whether you choose a pedal boat, rowboat, or motorboat, the experience is peaceful and scenic. The cool breeze, misty air, and reflections of the surrounding greenery make the ride especially enjoyable. The area around the lake also has small snack stalls, a children’s play area, and a few fun attractions, making it a good spot for families and couples alike. That said, the place can get crowded during peak tourist seasons, and some areas near the entrance feel a bit commercial. But once you’re actually on the water, the beauty of Ooty shines through. Overall, Ooty Lake is a relaxing and picturesque stop—ideal for anyone visiting the “Queen of the Hills” and wanting a quick dose of natural charm mixed with light recreation.

Funny C — Google review
Ooty Lake is a captivating man-made expanse, established in 1824, lying gracefully amidst the Nilgiri hills. Its 65-acre spread is framed by lush Eucalyptus groves and offers a central, picturesque retreat from the town's hustle. It serves as the strategic heart of Ooty's tourist attractions. The primary draw is the Boathouse, managed by the TTDC, which offers a range of water sports. Visitors can choose between leisurely pedal boats for self-rowing, traditional row boats with a designated driver, or swift motorboat rides, depending on their group size and preference. Boating charges are tiered with a minimal entry fee (around ₹15 per person). For example, a popular 4 seaters pedal boat ride costs approximately ₹260 plus a refundable deposit for a 30 minutes duration, offering an affordable family activity. Safety is prioritized; life jackets are mandatory and provided for all riders, ensuring a secure experience on the water. It’s important to heed instructions and avoid standing up to maintain stability and fully enjoy the tranquil mountain breeze. Beyond the water, the area features a bustling small amusement park and various local stalls selling goods like eucalyptus oil and homemade chocolates. Despite the seasonal crowds, Ooty Lake remains a scenic, essential stop for visitors to the Queen of Hill Stations.

Waterfalls
Iruppu Waterfalls, located in Brahmagiri, Kurchi, Karnataka, is a stunning natural attraction that draws visitors with its captivating beauty. The trek to the falls offers an invigorating experience amidst lush greenery and breathtaking landscapes. The sound of the cascading water enhances the serene atmosphere, making it a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers. This picturesque waterfall holds cultural significance and is nestled in the scenic village of Kutta at the Karnataka-Kerala border.
Not that great in summer as water flow is quite low. However, it's in a thick forest, covered with large trees which makes it worth the hike (about 250 steps). You can go right below the waterfall to get a good soak during summer days. At the base, there are a couple of small time eateries that serve, juice, ice cream and some basic things. There is a clean enough paid toilet too.

Iruppu falls is formed by a river lakshmana thirtha after falling from a height of 51.8 meters. The water is so clean. We have to be careful because the stones in the falls are very slippery. The water pressure is also very high right now. There are leeches at the falls so we should be careful. We can see beautiful blue flutter butterflies also in the forest. Please be cautious keeping in mind the water pressure and do not go wandering into the forest trail in brahmagiri. The water is super cold and it’s amazing to play. Be careful about slippery rocks, leeches and water pressure.

Needle Rock View Point

Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Panoramic views are the highlight at this verdant lookout point with established hiking trails.
“Needle Rock Viewpoint is absolutely worth a stop! The short walk from the entrance (about 5–10 minutes) opens up to stunning 360° views of hills, tea estates, and forests. The entry fee is just ₹20 per person. The place feels peaceful and less crowded compared to other Ooty spots, making it perfect for nature lovers and photographers. Facilities like toilets and railings could be improved, but the beauty of the view easily makes up for it. Best to visit early morning or evening for a calm experience and cool weather. Highly recommended if you’re around Ooty or Gudalur!”
LEYON L — Google review
This is a good view point in Gudalur-Ooty road near to Gudalur. The sharp shape of the view point gives it the name Needle point. There’s an entry fee of ₹20, the ticket counter is on the other side across the road. That side has a small snacks shop and a children’s play area. The view point is around 500 meters away from main road, need to walk in a low to moderately steep slope. The walkway is paved mostly making it convenient to reach the top view point. View point gives 360 degree view of the nearby plantations, tea estates, frog hill, Gudalur town and Mudhumali forest. There are few mobile toilets setup but most not functional and remaining are not maintained properly. There are no drinking water stations. Few stone benches put up at the entrance. At the top most point statue of a Nilgiri Tahr (Varayadu) is setup. It’s the state animal of Tamilnadu. There’s a photographer for taking instant photos with nice background during summer season

It was amazing views Located about 8 km before Gudalur on the Ooty–Gudalur road (NH 67). From Ooty it’s roughly 35-40 km, depending on route/traffic. The viewpoint gives 360-degree panoramic views — valleys, tea estates, forests (including Mudumalai), distant hills, etc. If you’re in the Nilgiris / Ooty / Gudalur area, Needle Rock is well worth a stop. It doesn’t demand huge effort, but offers a reward in the form of sweeping natural vistas, fresh air, and serenity. Best times are early morning or in late afternoon. Carry water, wear good shoes, avoid rainy times if you want clear views. Good: 1. Scenic beauty: Many visitors praise the sweeping views, especially during clear skies or when clouds/mist play across the hills. 2. Relatively easy walk: To reach the viewpoint one needs to walk about 500-1000 meters from the main road. The trail is moderately sloped, mostly paved/well defined. So it’s doable for most people who are somewhat used to walking. 3. Less crowded at off-peak times: If you go early morning or on weekdays, it’s calmer and more peaceful. 4. Affordable entry: The entry fee is very modest (₹10-₹20 in many reports). Camera usage fees may vary. Need to be Better: Facilities are basic / limited; Slippery or risky edges; Weather & visibility issues; Parking / access

Needle Rock View Point on the Gudalur–Ooty road is a stunning spot named after its sharp, needle-like rock formation. With an entry fee of ₹20 (tickets at the counter across the road with a snacks shop and kids’ play area), it’s easily accessible. The viewpoint is about 500 meters from the main road, with a gently sloping paved walkway. From the top, you get a breathtaking 360° view of tea estates, plantations, Frog Hill, Gudalur town, and even Mudumalai forest. Sree Thirunelli Mahavishnu Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located at an altitude of 900 meters in north Wayanad, Kerala. It is dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu and features intricate architecture and carved pillars. The temple is well-maintained by the locals and holds great historical significance.
Visiting this ancient temple was a profound experience. You can truly feel the history in its 1000-year-old walls, making it a remarkable piece of heritage. What makes this place even more special is the magnificent, panoramic view of the hills directly behind it. The combination of ancient architecture and natural beauty is simply stunning and creates a very peaceful atmosphere. A crucial tip for anyone planning to visit: make sure to verify the temple's darshan timings ahead of time. They are quite specific, and it would be a shame to arrive when the doors are closed. Highly recommended for both spiritual seekers and lovers of history and nature.

We recently visited the Tirunelli Temple as a family, and it was a peaceful and memorable experience. The drive to the temple is beautiful, with well-maintained roads that pass through scenic forest areas — a treat for nature lovers. Though the temple is currently undergoing renovation, it doesn’t affect the visit or rituals. The surroundings remain calm and spiritual, and we had no trouble accessing the main temple. Overall, it's a serene place worth visiting, both for its spiritual significance and the scenic journey to get there.

Review: Sree Thirunelly Mahavishnu Temple, Wayanad Sree Thirunelly Mahavishnu Temple, located in the serene hills of Wayanad, is one of Kerala’s most sacred destinations for performing after-death rituals like Sradham and Bali Tharpanam. Revered alongside the Sree Parasurama Temple in Thiruvallam, this temple is deeply rooted in tradition, spirituality, and ancestral reverence. The main deity here is Lord Mahavishnu, facing east from the ancient sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum), which is square in shape and traditionally roofed with copper sheets. The temple structure is centuries old, now undergoing phased renovations from 2024 onwards to preserve its heritage. Sub-deities include Lord Ganapathi and Thevaramoorthi, whose sreekovils are also being renovated within the Nalambalam. A standout feature of this temple is the arrangement for ancestral rituals, performed throughout the year in the holy Papanasini River, which originates from the Brahmagiri hills and flows past the western side of the temple. The temple administration conducts mass Sradham in an organized manner, with experienced priests guiding every step with devotion and discipline. The temple also provides Annadanam (free meals) to devotees — an important part of the ritual offerings — with clean and timely breakfast/lunch served at the Devaswom dining hall. There are provisions to donate for Annadanam as well, enabling devotees to contribute to this noble cause. Travel & Accessibility: • Location: Around 30 km from Mananthavady, Wayanad District. • Transport: Buses (KSRTC & private) available from Mananthavady Bus Stand starting 6 AM. Travel time is approximately 50–60 minutes. • Nearest Railway Stations: Kozhikode and Vadakara, which connect to Mananthavady. Facilities: • Spacious vehicle parking • Clean washrooms • Local restaurants and hotels • Shops selling spiritual items and Wayanad village products Recommendations: If you’re planning to perform rituals for your ancestors, a visit to this temple is highly recommended. The temple is especially busy on Sundays, public holidays, and Amavasi (no-moon days), so plan your visit accordingly. Bali Tharpanam is conducted from early morning until the Uchapooja (around 12:15 PM), so arriving early is ideal. Other Attractions: • Ancient water channel system using rubble troughs • The sacred Panchatheertham pond fed by five holy water sources • Gundika Sivan cave temple • Tranquil Papanasini riverbank where rituals are performed Conclusion: Sree Thirunelly Mahavishnu Temple is not just a temple — it’s a timeless spiritual experience that blends natural beauty, divine energy, and cultural legacy. A must-visit destination for those seeking to connect with their roots and perform sacred duties to honor their ancestors.

Thirunelli Temple is located about 50 km from Wayanad, near the Kerala-Karnataka border. Nestled in a valley surrounded by lush forests, it has the majestic Brahmagiri Hills as its backdrop. A road trip to the temple through the hilly landscape can be truly exhilarating. Pilgrims visit Thirunelli Temple mainly to perform ancestral rites known as Bali Tharpanam. It is believed that performing these rituals here helps liberate the soul of the deceased from the earthly realm. Ample parking is available for visitors, although the temple is currently under renovation.

Nature & Parks
Kuruvadweep, located in Wayanad, Kerala, is a river island and nature preserve that offers seasonal access for walks, hikes, and bamboo rafting excursions. It's known for its eco-friendly bamboo rafting experience and diverse tourist attractions such as the Edakkal Caves, Banasura Dam, Soochipara Waterfalls, and Pookode Lake.
It's a small Island covered by Kabini water all around. Need to take bamboo boat to enter island which is for 200mtr of water to be crossed, and 25ft deep with crocodiles.... Sharp 9.30am ticket counter opens , issues only 244 persons strictly per gate in a day( has two gates). Entry ticket payment is only through UPI or ATM card , no cash taken. Boating is payed by cash only Adult 220/- charged, kids till 12yr free entry (included entry fee and bamboo boat, to cross water.) I purchased seperate ticket for bamboo rafting ,which Is waste , dead slow sailing waste of time and money. Once we reach island need to walk in for 2km in forest , finally reach river stream. Kindly take seperate swim cloths , have a dip , relax in water, photos & play around . This is April month , water is less, hot summer I wish to take dip. Instead of bamboo rafting , kayaking is better according to my view.. Overall awesome experience & enjoyed..must visit and experience this place ... Parking fee is 30/- for car as of now. Reach by 9.30am due to limited entry( usually by 11am all ticket quota will finish). Carry water cloth if u wish to dip. No eatables allowed inside island , they will take out, plastic free zone....

Visitors need to know: it is essential to purchase tickets at least 12 hours in advance, as they are limited and sell out quickly. The current ticket price is ₹220 per person. Regarding the experience itself, I personally found it not worth the price or the hassle. It is extremely crowded, and the main attraction is simply an island area with a flow of water, not a waterfall or anything significantly unique. It felt like a waste of money for what is offered. In short, manage your expectations, book tickets far ahead, but be aware that the experience is basic for the cost. Good meals option is there. That's worth

Had real good time here. Very peaceful and crowd won't be that much and recommend to visit when it's raining. So that crowd will be less and you'll have a great time.

It is a tourist place with its own natural beauty with forest, wild animals like monkey, elephant ,water resources. There is view point cost 220 rupees per person Seperate restroom for male and female with dressing area with mirror which is well maintained and clean As per the forest officers information 500 person is only allowed to visit the area daily

We could not enter the island because of entry restrictions. The rafting on the river was a good experience. It was Rs 100 per person for a 20 min ride in the river by bamboo rafts. One can enjoy this ride as well even if you can not enter the island. There are few tea shops and souveneir shops.

Excellent tourist destination in Wayanad. It is a beautiful group of islands joined by the Kuruva river. We are taken on a raft to the main islands. If you walk for about 500 meters you will reach the part of the river where you can have a pleasant bath. The river is cool and shallow. You can spend any amount of time there. It is safe even for small children. However, it is not at all safe to take bath in other parts of the river. The guards warn tourists but some make a clandestine attempt to jump into the river. When we went there for the second time, a guard showed me why we should not take bath in the prohibited areas!
Dr G — Google review
Bad experience at Kuruva Dweep, lost money during visit. Management should improve safety and proper arrangements for visitors.
MOHAMMED M — Google review
Good place for walking in the forest and taking bath in river. The boat just crosses from the mainland to Kuruva Island which is would take hardly 5mins. The people around there are friendly and no plastics are allowed inside island. It's a flat land as there is no elevation observed so anyone irrespective of age can go and explore. Only little part of the island is accessible.

Edakkal Caves, located in a remote area 25 kilometers away from Wayanad, are two natural caves formed due to the sons of Lord Rama. These caves are famous for their archaeological significance and unique rock formations with ancient engravings dating back to the Neolithic era. The prehistoric caves feature exquisite rock carvings and walls, situated at an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level.
Visiting Edakkal Caves was an unforgettable experience! 🌿🪨 Located amidst the breathtaking hills of Wayanad, the trek up to the caves itself is refreshing, with scenic views and cool breeze all along the way. The caves are not just a natural wonder but also a window into history—featuring fascinating Stone Age carvings that date back thousands of years. The guides explain the significance of the engravings beautifully, making the visit both educational and inspiring. The panoramic view from the top is simply mesmerizing, overlooking lush greenery and rolling hills. Though the climb can be a bit challenging, it’s absolutely worth it for the adventure and the heritage you get to witness. A perfect blend of nature, history, and culture—Edakkal Caves is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Wayanad!

This particular place, old beautiful history, and it’s a beautiful side to watch, especially during rainy season. In the fact that all these carving by the ancient human civilisation have survived for all these years is just mesmerising. One has to climb up the hill. There’s a little hike which is required to reach this cave, which is on top of a small mountain. It’s a combination of both walkways and steps which leads us there. I wouldn’t consider it as extreme or very difficult. It’s a moderate trick, and I think people of any age group can do it very easily if they’re physically active. View from the top of the mountain is truly amazing, filled with lush greenery. The climb something which might be little challenging because these are the steps made out of rocks. However, the descent from the top of the caves to the bottom. There are metal staircases made by the government and it makes it easier to get down.

Amazing caves and awe inspiring. The moss covered stones and support for access is great! The views are stunning. However, the parking is not easily identifiable, lots of these for cars are given to the buses. The hike from parking to the cave is moderately challenging, with 5-6 steep slopes. We went on a Sunday so it was extremely crowded with many people jumping queues and yelling. More staff is needed to manage the crowd on such days.

The journey begins at a parking ticket counter on the main road, the fee was ₹30 for a car. They assign a numbered parking area (ours was No. 7), and from there, you walk some distance before the line of small shops begins. The path gets progressively steeper, though it’s a tar road initially. After a long uphill walk, you’ll reach another ticket counter (₹50 per person) to continue further. Beyond this point, the path turns rocky and steeper, and you’ll need to climb or walk over rocks carefully. There’s even a narrow opening to pass through, a fun little adventure before you reach the upper section. The views from there are beautiful, and thankfully, steel railings have been installed to assist with the climb. At the top, on the right side, there’s a cave-like chamber where you can see ancient carvings, not very clear, but still fascinating to witness in person. The exit route is separate and has full steel railing support for an easier descent. ⚠️ Note: The climb is not suitable for elderly visitors or those with health or breathing issues. Wear comfortable shoes and light clothing — it’s quite a workout! ✅ Facilities: 🅿️ Parking – Yes 🚻 Toilets – Yes ♿ Accessibility – No

Nestled high on Ambukuthi Mala in Wayanad, Kerala, the Edakkal Caves offer more than just a sightseeing trip; they provide a profound journey through time. Technically a natural rock shelter formed by a massive fissure in the mountain, Edakkal is a mandatory stop for history enthusiasts and adventurous trekkers. The experience begins with a challenging but rewarding climb. The path is steep and well-secured with rails and steps, demanding comfortable footwear and a moderate fitness level. The approximately 45-minute ascent can be strenuous, but it culminates in one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Western Ghats and the lush Wayanad valley below—a stunning reward for the physical effort. The true marvel, however, lies inside the cave. Edakkal is world-renowned for its extensive collection of petroglyphs, or ancient rock carvings. These unique pictorial writings and symbols, etched into the dark walls, date back to the Neolithic (New Stone Age) era, making them potentially 8,000 years old. The carvings depict figures of humans, animals, and mysterious geometric symbols, offering archaeologists and visitors a direct, tangible link to some of India’s earliest civilized settlements. Standing among these silent, ancient artworks is an awe-inspiring moment. To maximize your visit, arrive early to avoid the midday sun and the heavy rush of tourists, as the narrow pathways can get crowded. Edakkal Caves is an unforgettable combination of natural beauty, physical challenge, and immense historical value. It's a powerful reminder of our ancient past, perfectly preserved high in the mountains of Kerala.

Must visit place for all except elderly and those who are weak to climb up the hills. A large cave uphill after a steep climb via rocks and ladders arranged in between. It is a wonder that how people reached top and made inscriptions in stone age (6000BC). The panoramic view from outside the cave also makes the climb worth.

It's a strenuous climb upto the caves, even to the ticket counter. Be prepared with good shoes and not advisable for those already struggling with climbing stairs. There are only stone steps carved out of rocks and no hand rail on the way up. On the way down was easier with steel hand rails and straight steps.

Remember to be cautious of slippery surfaces and unpredictable weather conditions during your visit. Overall, it is an unforgettable adventure that connects you with nature's raw beauty.

Beautiful place to visit. Waterfall is active throughout the year. However, the flow reduces during March-May. If you are going with elderly people ensure that they can go and return around 2 k.m. Don't carry plastic bottles and food items. You can park your vehicles at the top. They will allow only 500 persons per day. So you can consider to stay nearby areas to cover many other locations around the waterfall. Only upi/ digital transactions are allowed for buying tickets.

I visited this water falls which is like 1km trek to the fall. It is under government and they charge 150 per person. Please mind taking student tickets which is only 50 rs. This trek is somewhat difficult. You should take about 2 hours. It not that worth visiting but if you feel to trek you must visit. Paid parking and local shops available also you have options of some activities near by.

We recommend buying tickets online or arriving early. The ticket price is ₹150 per person, and entry is not permitted without a ticket. The waterfalls are open all 365 days, but during the rainy season, only viewing is allowed—entering the waterfalls is not permitted.

Soochipara Waterfalls is soo good with wonderful water flow from the top of hill. Negative part is trekking, to reach this waterfalls we have to walk nearly 1 Kilometre additionally large large steps 🪜 to be used. After reaching Waterfalls it is worthy.

We visited this waterfall based on the suggestion and google review, but this place is a big NO!!! The start entry point is like the tip of the mountain and the waterfall is like at the base of mountain that much walking is to be done, there is lots of walking with slope and climb through the stones path and followed by big steps at the end which is difficult to go on, it cost Rs.150/- pp which is too much for the waterfall, if you are not in mood of walk and trek, this place is to be avoided! The gate closes around 5pm, all the guards are vanished at 5pm, there is no one around if you need any help if you go for the waterfall post 4pm, it took half hour for us to go to the waterfall and return half hour, 1 hour in total which is ascend and descend, as we spent only 5mins near the waterfall, as it was raining muddy water was falling and it was brown color. Do think twice before going for this waterfall, if you are up for a trek with proper shoes and mindset then its good!!

Pookode Lake is a calm and refreshing spot. I visited today and loved how peaceful the whole place felt. The walkway around the lake is scenic, the water is clear, and the surrounding greenery makes it perfect for slowing down and just enjoying the moment. It’s a great place to sit by the lake, relax, and take in the view. There are a few activities like boating and small shops around, but the best part for me was simply the quiet atmosphere. Even with people around, it still feels serene. The place is clean and well maintained too. If you are in Wayanad and want some fresh air and a peaceful break, this is an easy recommendation.

Pookode Lake offers a serene and amazing experience. The pedal boat ride was good and lasted 20 minutes. The place is exceptionally clean, with good service, though the prices are a bit high. It is a fantastic and calm spot to visit.

A beautiful, picturesque lake that's a perfect spot for families with children. Just be aware that it gets extremely crowded on holidays and weekends, which means a very long wait for boating. We'd highly recommend visiting on a weekday to enjoy it peacefully.

Paying money fornthe park is a waste of since 80% of things in park is broken/not working. But we cannot do peddle boating or kayaking wothout paying to enter to the park which is waste of money. But peddle boating was worth of additional money spent. Great view.

Pookode Lake, nestled amidst the lush green hills of Wayanad in Kerala, is easily one of the region's most picturesque and tranquil destinations. It’s the perfect place to slow down, breathe the cool, forest-scented air, and reconnect with nature. What truly sets Pookode Lake apart is its stunning location. Situated at the highest altitude for a freshwater lake in Kerala, it is completely surrounded by evergreen forests and wooded mountain slopes. The ambiance is immediately peaceful and serene, a welcome contrast to the bustling towns nearby. Fun fact: from an aerial perspective, the lake is said to resemble the geographical map of India! While the primary draw is the scenery, there are enough activities to keep visitors engaged for a couple of hours: • Boating: The most popular activity is taking a ride on the lake. Both pedal boats and rowboats are available, offering a relaxing way to enjoy the mirrored reflections of the trees on the water. It’s a must-do for families. • Walkway: A well-maintained path circles the lake, providing a lovely, easy walk where you can spot birds and the abundant blue lotuses in the water. • Freshwater Aquarium: Located near the entrance, this is a nice side stop, especially for children, featuring a variety of local freshwater fish, including the unique Pethia pookodensis species found only here. • DTPC Emporium: The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) manages a small shopping centre where you can purchase local Wayanad spices, handicrafts, and honey—a great place to pick up authentic souvenirs. Pookode Lake is an excellent stop for nature lovers, couples, and families. It offers a calm, refreshing break from typical tourist trails. While it isn't an all-day excursion, the couple of hours spent here boating, walking, and soaking up the tranquility are well worth the modest entry and boating fees. Just be sure to check the operating hours (generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) to ensure you have enough time to enjoy the boating facilities.

It was an amazing experience. Could clealy see the hair pin curve roads, the beautiful mountains, clouds and ofcourse the fresh air. You have to be there by 6 - 6:30am latest to get the most of it and spend an hour around, click pics etc. After that the mountains will be covered by snow (Koda in local language). If you aee staying in a nearby hotel, get up early, go to this place, come back and then have your breakfast n stuff. You won't be able to see anything after 8 - 8:30 am. No entrance fee and have few parkings on one side of the road. Since we reached there early, there were only a few tourists thus got parking very easily.

Known as the “Gateway of Wayanad,” it is located about 700 meters above sea level on the Thamarassery Ghat Pass. Lakkidi View Point is a tourist destination often referred to as the “Gateway of Wayanad.” It's known for its mesmerising bird's eye view. It's always beautiful be it say day or night, sunset or sunrise. Please don't litter around the area and destroy the natural beauty. Also you will be fined heavily we there are cops and ngo's patrolling to catch people in the act. A must visit place if you are in wayanad. You can see serpentine ghat roads hidden in lush green hills. Sometimes you can feel and see you are above the cloud. Vehicles 🚜 ply in this ghat roads looks like toys . Parking is a challenge. Be aware of monkeys. This viewpoint is located along a national highway, surrounded by greenery and offering a scenic experience that automobile riders are sure to enjoy! The view becomes absolutely stunning during sunset, making it a must-visit spot. This viewpoint is located right on the last hairpin bend of NH766 and is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible spots in Wayanad. It offers stunning panoramic views of the Western Ghats and breathtaking sunsets. There isn’t any dedicated parking space near the viewpoint. Visitors can park their vehicles near the entrance arch and walk down to the spot. Unfortunately, some people park on the hairpin curve, causing traffic issues on the busy road. The views from here are truly mesmerizing. You can see the lush green valleys below and the majestic Western Ghats stretching into the horizon. If you walk a bit further below to the next curve, you’ll be rewarded with a magical sunset experience. The mist-covered silhouette of the Western Ghats during the evening adds to the charm, making it a must-visit spot! Just before you reach the arch that welcomes you to Wayanad, you have this Lakkidi view point. Most people stop here to enjoy the view. You can see the top view of twists and turns of the ghat road. It’s best to see vehicles driving up at night as small dots of light. There is only a small space by the road side to park the vehicles. So make sure you don’t trouble other vehicles while parking here. Also beware of monkeys who could possibly steal your snacks.
