Flores cycling tours

Tours
Embark on Flores cycling tours to discover the island's natural beauty and immerse yourself in the local culture. The 4-hour tour covers approximately 20-23 km, featuring varying terrain with around 300 m in total altitude. The last 8 km may be more challenging, but frequent breaks offer stunning views of rice fields. With English-speaking guides and quality bikes, it's a great way to explore Ruteng and its surroundings.
When you are in Ruteng, I really recommend to book this cycling tour. It's a super nice experience and a really good guide, banyak terima kasih 🙏🏾

The best way to explore Ruteng and surroundings. It was amazing! Nice route and guides. And the warm welcome at the home village of Eusebia was an absolute highlight!

Very poor quality bikes. Bike tour is heavy much uphill. Guide thought the tour was a race instead meant for sightseeing.

Great way to explore Ruteng (which ain’t boring!) and surroundings. Friendly, english speaking staff, and proper bikes.

(Translated by Google) Nice opportunity to explore the surrounding area. We just went and booked the tour for the next day - 600,000 IDR per person. We did the 4 hour tour with approx. 20-23 km from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It goes up and down again and again - we suspect a total of around 300 m in altitude. In principle, the last 8 km are the most strenuous. But we took lots of breaks with great views of the rice fields. Anyone who drives at home from time to time will have no problems.

Nestled in the southern region of Flores, Todo Traditional Village is a captivating destination that showcases a rich tapestry of culture and tradition. Renowned for its well-structured social system, this small village thrives on agriculture, with rice and corn being staple crops cultivated by the locals. The journey to Todo can be quite adventurous, taking about an hour along rugged roads from the main thoroughfare. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a local guide who provides valuable insights into the community's customs and history.
Todo, one of the most unforgettable places in Flores. We got unexpected insight about the way of life through their culture wisdom. The local people are very nice and helpful, can't wait to come there again.
Yusuf A — Google review
The village was an amazing experience however it felt like at any point they were trying to take money from you. You weren’t allowed to speak to locals without guide either. The homestay was nice and good served was great although the toilets were unhygienic. They had no air conditioning or fans considering the heat and considering the amount we paid it seemed as if it would be provided. We were made to wear traditional clothes which was fun although not everyone would like. It was obligatory if you entered the kings house.
Sienna S — Google review
No queue. The road to go there is very extreme, took about 1 hour from main road to the village using car. There’s a local guide to guide you through the village. Small village. There’s the tradition where everybody who comes in to the village must use their sarong and headpiece. Pay about 80k idr/ person for local tourist, not sure for international tourists. If visit Ruteng must come to this place if you’re not going to Wai Rebo. Todo is like the smaller size and you can reach there by car, motorcycle. No need to walk so far
Josephine M — Google review
A very nice traditional Manggarai village, but they practically force tourists to take a guide, dress in traditional clothings for a 100k entrance fee + donation of own choice later during the ceremony. The village is pretty small, while inhabited, most locals stay in more modern housing around the area. The guide only do very basic explanation of the village, and most of the time I had be the one actively asking questions to learn more about it. They will first bring you to the main hut for a ceremony, accompanied with a practically forced donation and coffee/tea. The ceremony is to introduce you to their ancestors which is kinda cool. My guide then showed me around the main hut, and another smaller common hut. The entire guide lasted around 20 minutes. My personal opinion is the ticket is slightly overpriced. Compared to Bena Village near Bajawa which is bigger and more impressive, they only charged 35k. At least the site is actively maintained and preserved.
Yuhng Y — Google review
Today is a raining day and the whole village is covered with mist, like inside the cloud. Cooling. We entered one of the trandition house and welcomed by the elder and offered welcome drinks & blessings. Later was given a tour in the house and the village compound. There is an entrance fee of Rp 100000 per person and visitors are asked to wear their traditional custume.
Carol S — Google review
Sorry, but not impressed. Guides and houses were OK but the drunk “house owner” or whoever he was, ruined the whole experience… Also, smoking inside the house next to NON-smoking visitors is very rude. Current cost is IDR100K for foreigners
V S — Google review
The village was not overrun by tourists and we were made to feel like guests. Our guide was really informative about the traditional ways and the everyday lives of the modern villagers.
Jim F — Google review
Very welcoming. I enjoyed the ceremony and how easy and accessible. Lots of people speak English and the guides are great.

Lingko Spider Web Rice Fields [LSW]

Lingko Spider Web Rice Fields, located 20km west of Ruteng near Cara village, are a remarkable sight to behold. Shaped like spider webs and divided in a manner reminiscent of Manggarai roofs, these vast rice terraces hold deep cultural significance dating back thousands of years. Local farmers meticulously maintain this intricate agricultural system, offering visitors the chance to explore the fields and learn about traditional farming techniques.
Flores really has some beautiful rice fields. This one is special because the rice fields look like a spider web from above. The reason for the shape is related to how the fields were divided from generation to generation. It is very easy and quick to hike up to this viewpoint. These photos were taken in September and it's still so green.
Jelly T — Google review
Beautiful rice fields, arranged in the shape of spider webs when viewed from above, are quite unique. These rice fields are owned by several families rather than the government. Additionally, when we visited, fog was hovering over the area, making it even more captivating. There is a minimal entrance fee, and you’ll need to make a short hike to reach the top.
Manish G — Google review
It’s a very unusual look for a rice terrace. Even if you have already traveled asia, it’s unique and a must see in my opinion. Each spider web belongs to a different family and that’s how they can differentiate between the crops. Entrance fee is 30k and you can also get a tasty black coffee for 10k.
Gal Y — Google review
Beautiful view from the top viewpoint point, no more than 10min by walking, and 20k per person, beautiful view !
Thomas B — Google review
Very special place. Very unique and a must see if you are passing through the area. Best view from up the hill and looking down. The segments of each of the web all vary in size and are all individually owned and tendered by one family. Lovely community spirit , typical of Flores people. Another wonderful stop on a wonderful holiday !!
Aidan L — Google review
For me, its just ok place to visit. Nice view of rice field. there is a small entry fee at the gate. Need to climb around 100-150 steps to reach top. Need to keep distance with some children's there. They will come and offer help for taking photo. But after that u need to give some money. Take drone with u while visiting here, u can take amazing shots.

Though the location is correct, the hilltop viewpoint from the ticket counter is not correct on the maps and confuses us if you are following the directions to the place. As of Jun 24th there are very few green patches and the bird view of entire valley below the mountains is nice to visit if you have more time. The quarry just beside the ticket counter with It's water pool at the base is perfect for some photography.

Waerebo Village

Mentioned on
15 lists
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Waerebo Village, home of the Manggarai Tribe, is a picturesque destination located in the mountains of Flores. Accessible after a 5-6 hour journey on the Trans-Flores Highway and a 2-3 hour trek from Denge Village, it offers an authentic cultural experience. The village's traditional houses, known as Mbaru Niang, are built from bamboo, wood, and grass and reflect sustainable traditions.
Wae Rebo Traditional Village is one of the most famous and most frequently visited traditional villages on Flores Island. This village is one of many Manggarainese villages in the Greater Manggarai region that still maintains the authenticity of the village as well as its houses formation that inherited from their ancestor for hundreds year. Like other traditional Manggarainese villages, this village consists of Mbaru Gendang or a main traditional house at its center and other traditional houses surrounding on its left and right side so together they form a circular layout. In front of the main house there is a Compang or altar stone that is commonly used in many of rituals to worship their ancestor's spirit. The uniqueness of Wae Rebo Traditional Village that distinguishes it from other traditional villages is its location lies deep in the valley of Satar Mese mountainous area which can only be reached by trekking. Accessibilities: To access Wae Rebo Traditional Village, first we need to get into the modern village nearby called Dintor Village, Satar Lenda District, Manggarai Regency, which is about 50km/1.5 hours from Ruteng City or about 100km/3 hours from Labuan Bajo City using motorcycle or car. Half of the roads lead to Dintor are wide and good, the rest are small and badly constructed & maintained. Once we arrived, we have to continue to walk for about 6 km / 2.5 hours from the uphill of modern village nearby. The trekking path lead to Wae Rebo is clear but quite narrow, risky, also draining energy due to the steep of the hill. Amenities: There are many amenities available around Dintor such as markets, food and beverage vendors, and lodging. Around Wae Rebo, there is only one traditional house that is specifically intended for tourists to stay all in one with breakfast, food and drinks, and also a toilet. For electricity, in Dintor it is always available connected to the power plant, while in Wae Rebo it is not always available only from 6 PM to 12 PM powered by small local generator. For water, there is no need to worry because there are many water springs on the mountain that is always flowing abundantly to all villages.

Thanks for the amazing experience❤️

An amazing traditional village surrounded by mountains and clouds. The hike to reach it is worth it. The view is stunning and the atmosphere feels timeless. The people are welcoming and the culture is well preserved. A unique and unforgettable experience in Flores.
Acidguru — Google review
Wae Rebo is a traditional and remote village in the mountains of Flores, Indonesia, famous for its unique, cone-shaped houses called Mbaru Niang. It is a culturally significant site, recognized by UNESCO for preserving the ancestral Manggarai way of life, and offers visitors a chance to experience traditional living and stunning misty mountain scenery. Reaching the village requires a journey that includes an overland drive followed by a multi-hour trek, often with a guide
Mohd A — Google review
Waerebo Village is a beautiful mountain village in Flores, famous for its fresh air, stunning views, and the warm hospitality of its people. However, this lovely place still needs better supporting facilities, especially clean toilets and more comfortable accommodation.

5 hours+ of land transport + scary motorbike ride (less than 10 mins) + 2 hours hike to arrive at this World Heritage Village. What an experience with the broken bridge, road, no network coverage but all nature and cultural heritage.. we are lucky to be able to stay in the Main House although its only few layers of straw mats comparing to mattress in the guest house, we had the honour to shared a chilling night with the head of the Village under one roof. Great scenerary, weather day and night.. milky way.. just relax.. Do expect simple meals (dinner & breakfast) but good coffee from the tribe. Loved the cold shower, feels so good afterwards. Do bring a jacket as its gets cold at night, a small torch to walk to the toilet/ shower (be mindful with the steps & stairs), disposable raincoat (light to carry for 1 time use), if you to carey many things, can hire a porter (your guide/ assistant/ drive will do a good job) For myself, i only brought 1 set extra cloth (after shower sleep and next day down hill), small hand towel serve as well as bath towel, i wore water hiking sandal (i slipped down hill on muddy path but it gave me good grip on the stone path) 20 to 25k per coconut is very rewarding at Pos 1 after 1.5hours hike leaving the village. If you can, do swim in the small waterfall as the water is sooooo clean and cold! Crystal clear!! Take lots of photos!

Things to note before you come: 1. Good physical condition is required to reach this village, the journey could be arduous depending on your fitness level as the hike may take about 2-3hrs 2. Bring enough cash. There's no digital payment or internet connection along the way to the village, you'll need cash to pay the guide, motorbike taxi, ceremony fee, and staying fee. 3. Bring necessary equipment to hike and staying overnight like spare clothes, toiletries, snacks, water that fit into a backpack. 4. Now there's wifi in the village thanks to starlink, but it's very limited and you have to pay for it, but it's like 20k only, just visit their coffee shop in the village and say you want to use wifi. Hope it helps on your journey ahead.
Danny K — Google review
Great experience. I went there with Happy Bajo because I’m traveling solo and not in the mood to drive a motorbike alone there. But I saw some people go there by their own and the village people still welcomed them and you can pay them directly. The pathway to the village is around 5 km with the last 2 km is relatively flat or downhill but it was worth the sweat. The village is very beautiful, the people are nice. I slept like a baby in one of the hut, I even took a bath in with water from the spring water, cold but it was very refreshing after the hike. I regret not buying coffee from them. I bought bracelets from the cute kids.

Waterfalls
Cunca Rami Waterfall is a hidden gem near Labuan Bajo, accessible by scooter or car. The journey takes about an hour from the main road, Jalan Trans Flores. Once there, visitors are required to hire a local guide for a 40-minute jungle trek to the waterfall. Although this may seem inconvenient, the stunning beauty of the waterfall makes it worth the visit.
Loved this place. Beware the road is a bit of challenge, we were convinced we had got lost, and takes nearly 30 minutes after leaving the main mountain road. We used a guide called Lucia to walk the 40 minutes from the village through the forest to the waterfall. She was polite and helpful and we also had coffee with her husband and lots of children from the village. We went in April and the waterfall looked fantastic with a great swim but be aware the track through the forest of not suitable for small children or the disabled. We were happy to pay the guide and entry price as the money goes into the local economy. We were the only tourists they had seen in over a week, it really needs the government to invest in the road which would open up access to the larger tourist circle.
Nigel O — Google review
Wow, wow, wow! A bit tricky to get to, but worth the effort. We too a bike from Labuan Bajo, following the main highway for just over an hour before turning off. The road after the run off up until the water fall (another 45 mins or so) is terrible in places, completely cobblestone or washed away. We took a wrong turn in the village - we recommend putting into maps ‘Desa Pingyong’ which is just south east of the falls on the maps. From here we parked the bike and walked the path down past the fields to the cascades, here you cross and continue left up the river to another crossing. Prepare to get wet feet! Continue ahead to the third crossing and you will see the entrance hut. Here you can pay for entry and a drink. The falls are a short walk from there. We had the falls all to ourselves and it was absolutely epic.

Hidden Jungle Gem – A Detailed Guide to Cunca Rami Waterfall (via Desa Pinggong) If you're planning to visit Cunca Rami Waterfall, this is the scenic and lesser-known route via Desa Pinggong, and it’s honestly one of the most rewarding nature hikes I’ve done in Flores. 🛵 Getting There (from Desa Pinggong): Start from Desa Pinggong. From the main road, you’ll still need to ride about 45 minutes through hilly terrain and narrow paths. The scenery is gorgeous — expect rice fields, forested sections, and small villages. The road gets bumpy closer to the trailhead, so a motorbike with good tires is recommended. Drive slowly and with care, especially after rain. 🥾 The Hike (approx. 45 mins): From the trailhead, you’ll trek around 45 minutes through lush forest with two shallow river crossings — so yes, your feet will get wet! Bring good sandals or waterproof hiking shoes, or prepare a change of socks if you’re wearing closed shoes. 💰 Entrance Fee: There’s a local entrance fee — I paid 20,000 IDR as a small token. Some locals say it’s optional since it’s a public waterfall, but as a guest in their country, I chose to pay to show respect and appreciation. It’s not much, and it helps the local community. 🧍‍♀️ Guide Situation: A friendly woman approached me along the trail offering guide services. She was kind and not pushy at all. I was already halfway in when I met her, so I politely declined. If you don’t need a guide, you don’t have to pay anyone else. The trail is fairly straightforward, and locals along the way are helpful if you're unsure. ⚠️ Important Navigation Tip: As you’re nearing the waterfall, you’ll see a sign telling you to turn right — don’t follow it. Instead, go up the stairs just slightly ahead. Within a few more minutes, you’ll reach the falls directly. That small detail saved me from getting lost! 💦 The Waterfall: Cunca Rami is tall, beautiful, and surrounded by lush jungle. The water is clear and cool — a perfect reward after the hike. You can take a dip or just relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. It’s not crowded, especially via this route. 🧳 Things to Bring: Water Snacks Quick-dry towel Waterproof/dry bag Proper footwear Camera or phone Small cash (for entrance or snacks) ✨ Final Thoughts: This route to Cunca Rami is for those who enjoy off-the-beaten-path adventures. It's peaceful, scenic, and offers a more authentic experience compared to the standard tourist trails. Just come prepared, wear proper footwear, and enjoy the journey!

The waterfall itself is very beautiful, but it was a bit annoying that you are forced to get a local ‘guide’ from the village, otherwise they won’t let you walk through the graveyard. So you have to tip the guide and also pay the entrance fee. The trail through rice paddies is worth it though and it we had the whole place to ourselves
Alina D — Google review
I met Lusia and she took me to the waterfall. It’s about a 30 minute trek one way. You go down a fairly steep incline through the jungle. While walking Lusia told me all about the trees, plants, fruit, coffee, and nuts that grown along the trail. We passed through the valley floor where the village rice terraces were. They also had some domesticated Buffalo. Then walked through two streams and up some steps to the beautiful waterfall. After the long sweaty hike I jumped into the pool at the base of the waterfall. It was cool and refreshing. Be careful of the wet slippery rocks. I was the only one at the waterfall and Lusia took many photos for me. If you look up high to the right of the waterfall attached to the rocks there are many bee hives way up high. On the way back we met one of her family members and I got a huge coconut from him. Lusia told me that she also offers for people to stay the night at her house with her husband Francisco and three children. She will cook fresh local food with vegetables from the garden. She will also offer local coffee from the jungle. I highly recommend contacting Lusia via WhatsApp to be your guide. I went February 15th 2021 if that matters?

The road to get to the waterfall is a disaster. A 7km very bumpy road with a lot of big holes. So you should better walk to the waterfall once you managed to get up the mountain. You could definitely get to the waterfall by yourself but the locals want to earn some money so they will probably stop you once you enter their village. We payed 100k to the local guide for a group of 6. The guide could not speak any english but showed us the way to the waterfall. We had the waterfall for ourselves and loved it. The waterfall is very beautiful and the pool is very big. We did not see any rubbish near the waterfall👍🏽 Side note: To get to the waterfall you have to hike for around 30-45min from the village down to the waterfall. You will love the waterfalls pool even more after the hike ;)

The waterfall is spectacular, amazing, but you have to walk 1,5 km to reach it. Ticket IDR 20, is little bit high. But overall worthed to visit.

Labuan bajo's hidden gem. The view is beyond my expectations. To get here, i recommend you to NOT go from Wae Lolos village. the road is very very bad, I recommend you to go there from here, Search on map: SMP ST. KLAUS WERANG You'll find 'Cunca Rami Waterfall' signs when you got here or you can ask to the locals they're very helpful, the road is fine, 2 hrs ride from central Labuan Bajo. I parked my bike before the first river. You don't need guide, 35k/person for entrance ticket. Better to come here before 4pm [Oct, 2023]

Waterfalls
Cunca Wulang Waterfall is a popular spot for adventure seekers and photographers alike. Located outside of Labuan Bajo, it's accessible by driving scooters or arranging transportation. The trek to the waterfall involves crossing suspension bridges and navigating through jungles, offering stunning views along the way. Once there, visitors can jump off cliffs into the water and capture impressive photos of the picturesque surroundings. It's recommended to hire a tour guide for an enriching experience and to support the local community.
At the time of writing (April 2025), there was a visitor entrance fee of Rp30k per local and Rp70k for foreigners, and an additional Rp50k for a guide. A small contribution for maintaining the walkways, a couple of bridges and general cleanliness of the area. The 10-15 minute walk down to the falls was fairly easy and the reward was being able to swim in the refreshing river, which you can climb down to with caution or if you are feeling adventurous, you can choose to jump in from 5-7meters and/or 12-15meters. I wish we had planned better and brought a large blanket and a little picnic, as there were nice areas to hang out for a few hours. Have a fresh coconut after a good heart thumping climb back to the parking lot and make sure you leave a little tip for your guide.
Melinda A — Google review
It was worth the trek with a local guide along a set path with steps and 2 bridges. It was mostly downhill which means your return will be uphill. Great scenery, nature at its best. Recommend comfortable walking shoes. Only 1 little shop at the end where you get a drink while relaxing on the rocks. On this visit the water increased and so did the river which rose above the lower rocks. The 2 rope bridges were safe to cross. Just be carefully if you visit under these conditions. Overall it was worth the experience. Don't forget to tip the guide 😁
L B — Google review
Seems like variable pricing is involved here, we paid 194k for two adults (kids are free) and a mandatory guide. The hike is straightforward though and a quick walk to the waterfall which is behind a canyon so it's probably better if you are able to swim closer to the falls, else it is only viewable from its side atop its rocky side. It's a nice waterfall, but amongst all choices in Indonesia, this is an okay waterfall (though probably only of the best around Labuan Bajo).
Rtexal T — Google review
It's a lovely waterfall - but if you follow this spot on Google maps, you'll be taking a 20minute unmarked walk through the jungle to get there. You might be better off putting the main gate as your destination and paying the guide fee! We enjoyed the waterfall, but due to following this Google maps location ended up taking a very gravelly road and a long jungle walk to get there. If that's your thing, drive here. If not, stop at the ticket sign!
Cynthia R — Google review
If you like adventure and nature, this is a good activity to do if you have a half-day to spare in Labuan Bajo. You will need approximately 1 hour for the drive, followed by a 20-minute walk down to the stunning waterfalls. Spend an hour relaxing and swimming in this beautiful spot, then prepare for a 35-minute trek back up the hill. While it is not a leisurely outing, it promises excitement and a true adventure. The waterfall and surrounding rainforest are beautiful, making the trek worthwhile. Expect a rewarding experience as you hike through this incredible landscape. A ranger guide will accompany you (you have to pay a small entrance and guide fee), ensuring you get the most out of your visit. BTW, I combined this visit with another beautiful nearby waterfall called Cunca Plias.

Nice waterfall with 2 places to jump: 3 and 7 meters. It's nice to swim there. You can stay as long as you want until 17h where closes. You have to pay 70k/person and 50k for the ranger (one ranger per group), so we were 2 people and we paid 190k. The ranger goes with you until the waterfall and waits for you to get you back. There is a bar close to the waterfall. The ranger is not needed, it is another scam of the indonesian goverment, they pretend the place is dangerous because it is slippery... It's true that it is expensive for indonesia, and the guide is not needed at all. Go if you have nothing more to do because it is nice to take a bath on the water, but the trip time by scooter and the price doesn't worth it
Roberto ( — Google review
Such a cool waterfall!! Lots of jump spots and the water is so welcoming. We had to pay 190k for 2 people (see attached photo). Well worth the visit though, we spent a while here playing in the water 🙂 you can access the top of the waterfall as well.

Amazing spot to soak in the cool water and jump off rocks. Not super busy. They’re adamant you have to get a guide as well as paying a ticket price. They’ll flag you down in the town and lead the way.

Melo Village is a charming stop on the way back to Labuan Bajo, offering an incredible sunset and beautiful gardens. While it's not exactly a traditional village, visitors can still enjoy cultural experiences such as a welcome ceremony with local elders and the opportunity to rent traditional clothing for photos against the stunning backdrop of East Nusa Tenggara. The village also offers panoramic views and the chance to witness live cultural performances, making it a unique and memorable stop for travelers in the area.
Nice experience. Bring cash. You can ask for traditional coffee. Beautiful view, friendly host. Good picture point, can ask for traditional clothes.

Desa Melo, near Kota Labuan Bajo, is presented as home to the region's sole remaining traditional house. We arrived without pre-booking or paying an entrance fee, which meant we missed the scheduled traditional dance. However, our visit was far from disappointing. A lovely local woman generously offered us a guided walk, pointing out fascinating details before we entered the traditional house. Inside, we were warmly welcomed by several women and Pak Yosef. We spent over 30 minutes in engaging conversation, learning about traditional food, local events, and ceremonies. We also purchased a beautiful piece of fabric. The people were incredibly generous with their time and knowledge. Before departing, we made a donation, captured a few more photos, and left with a truly heartwarming experience. This isn't a staged, commercial attraction; it's an opportunity to connect with genuine, kind-hearted people and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the natural surroundings.

Dear Melo village. My friend and I visited you yesterday and enjoyed your hospitality, visiting your pretty village and seeing the wonderful view. I would have liked to give 4 stars but only gave 3 because the nuts you sold us gave my friend and I an upset stomach. Please put a label on the candlenuts pack and/or tell your customers that they need to be cooked first and/or not eaten in amounts larger than 5 nuts at a time. Otherwise, you are causing a lot of unnecessary stomach pain.

It's a sanggar (traditional art center which usually used for dancing/music training & performance). A mini complex where there is one traditional house to welcome visitors. They will briefly explain about the house & traditional tools inside. And you'll be expected to donate or buy their products. They have locally produced coffees, traditional cloth, etc with reasonable price. If you come in a group, you can contact them to arrange a traditional dance performance on your visit (with a fee). Alternatively, they said the did perform regularly in the morning for certain days. Do check with them if you are interested.

Went there for a cultural experience. First we were escorted to a house and received greetings. Then we went outside to watch three dances. The place to watch the dance was not comfy at all. The chair was very narrow not supporting our bodies, we were served hot coffee and tea in such a hot weather. I think iced ones will be better
Stephen S — Google review
Interesting place. If you want to watch ritual dances and listen to traditional musical instruments, you should book in advance. We didn't book, but we saw how the VIP guests were greeted. Since we were regular guests, we were let into the traditional house for a couple minutes and did a little welcome ritual. The ritual, of course, ended with an intrusive donut box. Our guide had of course warned us about this, but he then said it was voluntary, but in reality it wasn't. I put down 100. I didn't feel like we were greeted sincerely. We're not VIPs.

Amazing cultural experience. Warm welcoming ceremony by the head of the village, and see the whip fight and bamboo dance

We had a great visit to this village, even though it is a mock village, we learnt a lot about Flores culture and the people were very lovely.

Rangko Cave

Rangko Cave, also known as the Secret Cave, is a unique ocean cavern located in Rangko Village, about an hour's drive from Labuan Bajo. It features a stunning saltwater pool with high salinity and crystal-clear water. Visitors can swim and dive while admiring the cave's ceiling adorned with stalagmites and stalactites. The cave is accessible through an adventurous journey involving crossing a broken bridge and taking a small boat to reach its entrance.
Gorgeous Cave! **Bring a waterproof torch if you can** We visited this Cave through a tour organised by 'Seek Sophie'. They organised the car and the boat across for us, so it was very hassle free. We had a great time, we arrived before the crowds so we got to take a few photos with just us in the Cave and explore it a little before the sun came into the cave. If you don't have a touch, you might think there are bats in the Cave, but it's actually just 50+ sparrow nests hidden in the back of the Cave. Nothing to be scared of!
Cynthia R — Google review
To get there, you’ll need to take a boat. The round-trip fare is usually around 500K, but if you’re lucky, you can bargain it down to 400K. The price per person depends on how many people are sharing the boat, so if you’re only two, it’s worth inviting other visitors to join so everyone pays less. Once you arrive, there’s a small entrance fee: 20K for locals and 50K for foreigners. The best time to visit is around 2 pm, when sunlight streams into the cave, making the water glow a magical emerald blue. It’s the perfect moment for photos and to just soak in the beauty of the place. The cave is absolutely stunning, hopefully not too crowded when you go. Just watch your step, as the stairs inside can be a little slippery. All in all, it’s a spot you really shouldn’t miss!

Rangko Cave (Goa Rangko or Gua Rangko) is a popular natural attraction located near Labuan Bajo, which is on the island of Flores, Indonesia, and serves as the gateway to Komodo National Park. It is a renowned "hidden gem" known for its magical atmosphere. Natural Pool:The main feature of the cave is a stunning natural saltwater pool with incredibly clear, turquoise-blue water. The high mineral content in the water can make floating very easy. Limestone Cave:It is a beautiful limestone cave decorated with stalactites and stalagmites. Blue Glow Effect: The cave is most famous for the moment when a beam of sunlight penetrates the cave entrance** and illuminates the pool, causing the water to glow a brilliant, almost otherworldly blue. 1. Location: Rangko Cave is located on the north side of Labuan Bajo. 2. Getting There:The trip usually involves two main parts: Land Transport:A drive of about 30-45 minutes by car or rented scooter from Labuan Bajo town to Rangko Village (also known as Tanjung Boleng or Rangko Harbor). Boat Trip: From Rangko Village, you hire a small wooden boat for a short 15-20 minute ride to the small beach near the cave entrance. 3. Hike: From the boat drop-off point, it's a short, easy walk (about 5-15 minutes) to the cave opening. 4. Best Time to Visit: The best time to see the pool illuminated by the sunlight is usually between 12:00 PM and 3:30 PM, with the absolute peak light often cited around 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (though this can vary slightly by season). It's best to visit during the dry season (April to September) for the best weather and clearest water. 5. What to Do:Swim and float in the natural pool, take photos of the unique light effect and rock formations, and relax on the nearby Rangko Beach. You can visit Rangko Cave independently by arranging transportation and a boat, or by booking a half-day or full-day tour from Labuan Bajo, which sometimes combines it with other local attractions like Batu Cermin (Mirror Cave) or Sylvia Hill.

We arrived at Rangko Cave around 1pm. Only two other people were there. But, not long after, quite a crowd turned up to get the afternoon photo shots of the sun reflection.. so ry and not get caught in that madness if you want to enjoy the place.. I only wore thongs/flip flops. They seemed fine on the track and into the cave. I did put on surf booties into the water. Most people just went bare feet swimming.
David G — Google review
Easy to visit the place on your own- just organize yourself a boat in the harbor- we paid 500.000. Walking can be done with flip flops and takes about 5-10 min. Cave reminded me at a „cenote“ in Yucatan Mexico. Nice swim in the cave and the beach. You can also have some refreshments at the beach.
Ursula S — Google review
This was an out of the ordinary experience of swimming in a cave. The start of journey was a bit daunting, because you’ll be greeted by locals who offered boat service to the cave. We went there on our own with a bike (didn’t take tour package). Expect to pay Rp250,000 per person for the boat + Rp50,000 cave entrance fee. Best time to visit is noon (less crowded) as the tour crowd will come at 2pm.
Andrew L — Google review
Nice small cave for swimming which was pretty good. Lots of people in the cave at the same time which affected the experience. We negotiated a price of 150,000r per person for the 10 minute boat trip. There were 6 on the boat. 5,000r entrance price as well.
Scott C — Google review
We went to Rangko cave. The boat trip takes around 15mins. The cost of the boat trip (return) varies between 150 IDR to 250 IDR per person depending on how much you can negotiate a price with the boatman. The cave is partially filled with seawater which is aquamarine when enough light enters the cave. It's very atmospheric with stalactites above the water and stalactites and stalagmites in the entrance of the cave. We also saw roosting bats just above the water. We would recommend arriving just after 12:55 when there is enough light to see and swim (we took underwater torches) in the cave. We were there with only four other visitors and their guides (the guides did not enter the water). If you attend when the light is at its zenith for the cave (best for the illumination of the water in the cave) the cave will be filled with dozens of other visitors. We were taken over there by a boatman called Jho. We highly recommend him. He's very knowledgeable and took us to the Island and up to the cave. He took pictures and videos for us whilst we were in the water. Ask for him if you intend to visit the cave.

October 2013 very good very good people, very helpful and friendly the owner very keen to help and give some information about we did amazing trip to Rinca island with stop for snorkeling when we back was so cool, also cheap thanks for all

I had an amazing trip with Flores Komodo Expedition. Everything was perfectly organised. First, I planned a Komodo island trip. I saw the beauty of Komodo National Park, snorkelling with turtles, did a sunrise hike on Padar island, visited the dragons, and more… I had such a good time that I decided to book a land tour with them too. In 6 days they showed me the wonderful places of Flores. Like, Wae Rebo, a hot spring, Kelimutu, spiderweb Ricefield. It was everything I expected and more. I would definitely recommend booking with them. Andik was my guide and he is genuinely the best. Welcoming, kind and we laughed a lot. Terima Kasih banyak 🙏

Mirror Stone Cave, also known as Gua Batu Cermin, is a captivating destination in Labuan Bajo. The entrance has been modernized, offering a pleasant walk and excellent guide service. It's recommended to visit in the morning to avoid crowds and high humidity levels. Visitors should bring their own flashlight for exploring the cave, and guides are available for those who want assistance navigating through narrow passages.
Lovely Tour! **Bring your own torch if you can** We visited this Cave through a tour organised by 'Seek Sophie'. Once there we were met by a lovely local guide who took us through the greenery (with the occasional monkeys) to the Cave and explained all the fossils and history behind this area. He kindly gave us some helmets that came with torches, but they weren't very bright, so luckily we had our own. Once equipped you'll duck crawl through some right spots to see an ancient fossilized turtle, beautiful caves and what are the most humongous crickets I've ever seen! It was great to experience the non-aquatic sights of Komodo. We enjoyed it!
Cynthia R — Google review
Not too bad for a cave visit. Won't take more than an hour to complete. We had a guide along which he brought along a LED torchlight. A certain part of the cave where you need to wear helmet. You need to squat and crawl into it for a part of the cave. We had the sun ray shining into the cave at a point. The guide was superb where he took many photos and videos for us without complaining. The mushroom rock is just a pitstop for photo.
Lee K — Google review
I went there in the afternoon before my flight to the airport. For only IDR 70k, I got an entrance ticket and a guide for the cave. They said that outside the cave, there’s a snake habitat, and some locals have formed a community that hunts them at night. The cave itself is dry and easy to explore for visitors. It's best to come around midday when the sunlight reflects beautifully inside the cave
Ossy S — Google review
Beautiful place, not overly big bit makes for a great day out. Bring a flashlight or use your phone. If you have trouble walking or knee issues you may want to skip this. There are snakes. Just saying.
Zsolt Z — Google review
Nice place. I recommend this place. Just be sure to visit at midday or a little bit later when it's sunny to be able to see the beauty of the cave inside with the reflection of the sun. The guys who works there as guides were friendly 💯
Skander C — Google review
An easily accessible and interesting cave with a cool fossilized turtle inside. Entrance for foreingers was Rp 50k. It's definitely worth visiting while you're in Labuan Bajo.
Grant C — Google review
Surprisingly fun!! I actually considered not going here because the pictures looked quite average, but definitely worth a trip! It's quite a short tour (30-45m). I most enjoyed entering the cave with a helmet (which was essential as there were many spots to knock your head). It was quite the mini adventure.
Bryan L — Google review
The cave it self is okay and good to see (but nothing special) for 30 - 60 minutes depending on how long you want to be there taking pictures. The guide is not needed, it is easy to find the cave as there is a clear road to it. Guides are lying and making a story about a fossil of the turtle, which is more a mimic of it, but not real. They can’t not name an approximate age of it, and you can clearly see the same structure of the rocks around a pseudo-fossil (a geological formation done by water and orange colour bacteria). Plus they could not show a scientific proof of it being a fossil:) so getting a guide is a scam.

Sailing for 2 days with this amazing crew and group of new friends was honestly one for the books. We explored the stunning beauty of the Komodo Islands, hiked up to the top of Padar Island (yes, we survived those 800+ steps!), and made memories that will definitely stick with me for a long time. The phinisi we sailed on was super clean and well maintained surprisingly comfy for life at sea! What made the experience even better were the people. The crew and our host were not just helpful, but also hilarious and genuinely kind. They made sure we felt safe, taken care of, and most importantly had fun. Whether it was helping with our stuff, sharing local stories, or hyping us up for photos (even when we were sweaty and exhausted from hikes), they were always there with good vibes. Even though it was just a short trip, it felt like we were part of a little floating family. I’m going home with salty hair, a happy heart, and a camera roll full of memories I never want to delete. Highly recommend this experience if you’re looking to escape, connect, and be surrounded by unreal nature and good company.

I had the most incredible experience on this Phinisi trip in Labuan Bajo! The boat was beautiful, well-maintained, and super comfortable. The crew was friendly, professional, and always ready to help with anything. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The itinerary was perfect—visiting breathtaking islands, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and even spotting Komodo dragons! Every meal on board was delicious, with fresh seafood and a variety of tasty dishes. Watching the sunset from the deck while sailing through the stunning landscapes was truly magical. This trip was beyond my expectations, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure! Would definitely do it again!

Scuba Republic - Komodo offers a unique diving experience with various teams and a comfortable boat. The crew is friendly and knowledgeable, providing excellent service to both experienced divers and beginners. The dive sites are diverse and impressive, featuring stunning coral, large reef fish, sharks, turtles, mantas, eagle rays, and more. The boat provides a dry zone on the second floor with bean bags for relaxation and equipment setup on the first floor.
If you are searching for a place to do fun dives, liveaboards or any dive course in Komodo, SEARCH NO MORE - SCUBA REPUBLIC IS THE SPOT! I was searching for a dive center in Komodo to do my Dive Master, and after sending messages to a bunch of places, the message I got from Flo, the manager, was definitely the best one. He showed immense care to explain everything I could expect from my DMT, how much time would it be, costs, and the layout of the training itself, so it was super easy to chose when you feel so cared fore as a student (even before I arrived)!! When I got to Komodo i got the warmest reception 🥰 he helped me prepare everything for the grand start! Flo put in in a few fun/check dives to beginning with, so I could get a hang of the dives spots, and then the training started. I felt everything was super well organised and tailored through all the steps. The first week/10days were to get to know the team, and see which instructor we would sync more to choose for our reference instructor - it was amazing to know everyone, and I thought it was very cool each of the instructors had its own speciality - Leo was coming from a background of coral restauration, Franck was working there longer and he is amazing with the wild currents of Komodo, and Anita is absolutely incredible with teaching all skills in a very detailed way, with her background working in Australia. It was pretty tough to make a choice, but I ended up choosing Leo as we clicked super easy from the start!! I'm not gonna lie - the training is intense!! You'll be humbled by Komodo's dive sites, from the marine wild life, to the crazy currents - but this team made me feel safe and secure every step of the way !!💫 The training it self could not be more complete, all steps are recorded on an Excel sheet which all instructors & me have access, with tips for improvement, and lots of help in the debfriefings 🫶🏽 I ended up spending 2 months (as I stretched the original 5 weeks training), and I gotta say - one of the reasons is cause diving with this team just felt like family 🥰 The local dive masters are INSANELY CONNECTED TO THE OCEAN - these are actually the guys you'll learn more from when it comes to the ocean in Komodo. They are one with the dive sites, they know every little detail of every spot, specially when it comes to currents and how to handle them & navigate when things get tricky! Leaving this family was one of the hardest times I left after a trip to a place. The friendships I built over this time are for life, and the amount of learning I got from all my DMT is pretty much priceless. I just wanna say a HUGE THANK YOU to all the team 💙 Flo & Manon (the power couple managing this op) are amazing, and I feel super grateful that I got to spend this time diving & learning with Scuba Republic♡ (PS - Trying not to make any spoilers, but there is a Liveaboard included in the training 😍) BIG LOVE TO YOU ALL ❤️

We had an amazing experience with Scuba Republic. We went on a 3D/2N Cruise on Capoeng, a very cozy boat for small groups. The diving was incredible, we saw everything we were hoping for: Mantas, Sharks, Eagle rays, healthy reefs, beautiful coral gardens, adventurous drift diving. Everything was perfectly managed and guided by Yano and Archie, very lovely and professional diveguides. Also the boat itself was comfortable and the boatcrew were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. It just feels like a big family onboard. Not to forget the great food we had every day. All in all it was a perfect Komodo dive cruise.

Thank you to Scuba Republic for making us fall in love with the underwater world of Komodo! We had the most amazing experience in the Capoeng liveaboard!! Thank you to Yano and Archie and all the incredible Capoeng crew for the dreamiest days we could have imagined: the dives are INSANE, the instructors super experienced and good at what they do, the crew is sooo helpful, kind and professional and the boat is clean, spacious and comfortable. The food is EXTREMELY GOOD and local!! I recommend it 10000%!!! We also stayed and did some daily dives with them and it was also an amazing experienced, thanks to our divemaster Joe for taking care of us and showing me all the nudiss! Scuba Republic for sure has our heart, the team to dive with in Komodo!!

Scuba Repbulic (shout out to Manon and Flo- phenomenal people!) and the entire Bajak team, especially the Dive legends being Yunus, Johnny, Days and the delightful Anita! Everyone in this Liveaboard (4D/3N) went above and beyond to make a dive trip turn into a dive family. The celebration, the food, encouragement, thoughtfulness (to all people and nature) and humour was in one word: incredible. I 💯 recommend this Bajak Scuba Republic experience to anyone who loves life and loves people! Highlights: the crew, the 12 beautiful dives (2 night dives too!), sunset hike, pink beach and of course the Komodo Dragons!

I took my advanced diving course with Scuba Republic, and couldn’t recommend more! The instructors are incredible, with several briefings that instill confidence, the staffs are so kind, and the food taste delicious. My instructor, Anita, was very calm and confident, she taught me advanced techniques and kept me at ease throughout the course and had a great knowledge of the diving spots. There are also games and books that allow us to check out the marine life we saw during the dives.

We went to the liveabord Capong with Archie and Yanos for three days, and it was the most amazing experience ever! The dives very cool, we saw mantas (a lot), a lot of sharks and different fishes. I had the best dives of my life 🤩. The crew was very professional and friendly and specially with Archie and Yanos diving. They did a very complete briefing in every dive site, giving all information needed to do a fun and safe dive, as here there are quite some currents. Finally, the boat is very spacious and new, the food really good! We were eating the whole time. Really there were smiles everywhere, we met a little dive family. I would repeat it for sure ☺️

I’ve been on the Capoeng liveaboard for 3 days, and I also decided to stay 3 more days doing fun dives. It was my first time on a liveaboard, and I’ve had the best diving experience in my 8 years of diving around the world. The entire Scuba Republic team is truly wonderful — they make you feel like part of the family. It’s honestly the best place you can choose for your diving experiences in Komodo. Eternally grateful to Yano, Manon, Flo, and the whole team! I’ll be back very soon!!!

I had an amazing experience with Scuba Republic Komodo! Did a full day fun dive in central Komodo Island. Everything was excellent, from the dive masters and safety to the amazing food and clean boat. The crew was very organized and helpful. Atlantis Beach Club in Labuan Bajo, Flores, Indonesia is a popular spot for hanging out and enjoying a relaxing lunch or dinner. It's highly recommended for private events and fine dining experiences. The menu offers a variety of options including local and western cuisine, with the Brinjal chips being particularly praised as a tasty starter. Visitors also rave about the high sea drink offered at the club.
Huaaaa I love this place so much. Really cozy. Only 10minutes from Komodo Airport and from the town. Food are tasty. Am amazed by the taste of its eggplant. They have swimming pool as well, you can enjoy it just by order their food or beverages with minimum purchase IDR150K. The staff was friendly. I will visit this place again if I come to Labuan Bajo. This restaurant is have kind of private beach, but not sure since people from somewhere else also free to come. At the back, they have small garden. So you have several choices which area you’d like the most to seat.

Nice restaurant with seaside view. Food is very good for Labuan Bajo! I tried pad thai and the fish and chips are good. The fish was good, not the classic and cheap fried fish. They have quite a large menu offering both western and asian cuisine. They have 2 small swimming pool, I think it would be nice for the aperitif... Only critique is that it was very quiet on weeknights, not much atmosphere (despite the house music!)

We had a great cooking class there, which was organized by the Plataran Komodo Resort. The staff is super friendly and speaks very good English.

When visiting Labuan Bajo, don't miss out on Wisata Kuliner Kampung Ujung, a popular seafood destination just minutes from the port. This bustling spot offers a variety of fresh seafood options such as fish, squid, lobster, shrimp, and clam. The area is vibrant at night with colorful food stalls grilling an array of seafood. While the local government has organized the area well, parking can be chaotic and traveling vendors may approach visitors.
Ate at Nabilla’s Kuliner Labuan Bajo. Awesome seafood! Staff were nice, friendly and very helpful. We had Crab, mantis prawns, Grilled Clams that were HUGE and Grilled fish. A+ on their grilled seafood! Would definitely recommend.

Kampung Ujung in Labuan Bajo is a seafood paradise, offering fresh catches from local fishermen. Visitors can enjoy a variety of dishes like fish, crab, and lobster at affordable prices.

Definitely a dinner to experience while in Labuan Bajo. But be mindful that haggle is required, especially if you are a foreigner or a local with foreigner(s). Knowing how much the market rate of fish and other seafoods would definitely be handy. The seating here will be parallel to the stall where you buy the seafood from, so it's not a free seating type. Once you pick the stall, just agree the prices upfront, clearly, incl. the drinks. Service could be quite slow and the quality of rice might not be the best. But the foods when they arrived they're all good. We really liked our ikan kuah asam (fish in sour soup). Some sellers might charge you an additional 8% of fax, while the others don't. We ordered 1 fish (cooked in 2 ways), a small basket of clams, grilled aubergine and stir fried morning glory and paid 235k rupiah. While we paid 113.5k rupiah for the drinks (dragon fruit juice, mango juice and ice tea) - this one included the additional tax for some reason.

There are many seafood restaurants along this road, many of which serve fresh fish from the sea. The price provided fluctuates according to what we bid on. The cooking menu is also very similar, with grilled and stir-fried vegetables. Since the fish or other ingredients are still fresh, they taste sweet! I like ❤️
Dessy F — Google review
The fish was superb (barramundi - 200K and baronang 100K)! Fresh, tender, melt in your mouth! Super recommend, yummm. I recommend the clam also (kerang dara rebus). The sambal is very nice also. We did not try the lobster, but the pricing is quite good (compared to Bali yah), for the big one cost 800k. The downside is that the service takes too long even to serve the drink.
Kartika S — Google review
Had a dinner in Kasimpa Wali stall recently. All the seafood dishes that we ordered were super fresh and cooked really nice. They offered either live or fresh seafood and they sure know how to cook it. The downside was, the wait time is long, don’t come when you’re starving. Price of the seafood is also pretty reasonable. We’re happy to pay as the quality of the food is also great. You will need to shower after your trip here as the smoke is the choking you kind. There were also some pedagang offering kain and they were kinda pushy. But overall I think this place worth a try, especially if you love seafood.
Yulia A — Google review
the place is very good, it's right next to the beach and surrounded by lots of culinary tourism... it's very busy at night and the smell of smoke is a constant sight every day because of grilled fish or other food. The local government has arranged the place well, but it is very unfortunate that the parking is not organizedand traveling traders who have no rules offering their wares.
Borman S — Google review
Great choice to take supper or dinner while visiting Labuan Bajo. They mainly offer fresh seafood such as fish, squid, lobster, shrimp, clam, etc. The fishermen usually collect their catch around Komodo National Park. There are no fix prices. The prices depend on the tourist season. It will be much pricey when high season of tourist visits.

Labuan Bajo fish market is a popular spot for tourists, offering a variety of warungs serving fresh seafood like fish, crab, lobster, and shellfish. Visitors can select their choice of seafood to be grilled and prepared. The market provides an opportunity to savor some of the best seafood in Indonesia at reasonable prices. It's a charming place where locals and tourists mingle, offering super fresh fish cooked on the grill at affordable prices.
Great sunsets but eating experience was not so good. Prices r hiked for tourists though wud be cheaper depending on where u r from. Most stalls wud quote similar pricing. 1st dinner, we had two fish but one was totally tough - loco! Paid abt 1.3 mil for dinner of 11 pax. Coconut was overpriced - 30k IDR 2nd dinner at a diff stall (warung) fish was ok. XXL crabs were not that fleshy even though we paid a premium price for them ( 300k/kg). We paid 1.8m for a dinner for 7pax. Svs was nothing to shout about. Both places charged 10% tax, which we refused to pay at d second warung. They accepted it when we challenged d invoice, hand-written on a blank paper. I think this is a tourist scam as they were just operating out of warungs (stall) n don't pay taxes. So beware!
Yeo's S — Google review
I had the freshest fish, cooked homestyle at Kedai Banerasa, along with delicious vegetables and a coconut. But many of the other stalls also looked very good. The price was very fair and I definitely look like a tourist, so I'm not sure what other people experienced to make them complain so much. I would definitely eat here again. There are also lovely views of the harbour here.
Elena S — Google review
Fresh seafood available, you can pick and weight then bargain with them. Good selection of fishes and good deal for the kind of seldom available in our country. Coconut is huge and sweet, service is ok, but if you want to eat there dont bother to wash your hair before that. Tiny roaches crawling around the floor sometimes up the table. Well, they sells food right? So... Its kind of normal, plus its by the sea.. cooking are more or less the same as we tried 2 different stalls. Sambal is different also depends on your preference.
Christina C — Google review
Even the China folks are smart to say the food here is expensive. We ordered 2 crabs, a fish and vegetables. The dishonest stall had swopped the crab to a smaller one with lesser meat. The cooking took almost an hour. They use coconut shell to cook but blew the smoke to the dining area. We ate once and was enough. Compare to Semporna, this is not worth it.
Lee K — Google review
Pick your fresh seafood and enquire the prices before you order how it’s to be cooked and side dishes. The seafood was super fresh and delicious yet affordable. You’ll be directed to sit at one of the benches at the back, be prepared to eat in smoke because there are so many stalls grilling bbqing the wind blows the smoke towards the seating area. I guess it adds to the local vibe! It’s really fun to eat here and the seafood was the highlight. Highly recommend everyone to try it out.
Michelle L — Google review
The seafoods are freshest at it gets. Very very large crabs. Service a bit slow. Expected. And very reasonable price. Just make sure you weigh and ask how much before agree to cook. And the area can be very smoky.
Goh R — Google review
You can try for the experience, but expect overpriced food priced like a tourist trap. Food wasn't particularly great either, lobster was super dry and hard, not succulent at all. Prices are inconsistent, better to just walk up the hill to Taman Laut.
Sherman O — Google review
good value and fresh seafood!! barbecued live lobster was SO GOOD. visited the store with higher footfall because i couldn’t tell which store would have fresher fish and chose the fish i wanted (looked at the eyes to determine freshness). i also asked for the menu to ensure we weren’t getting upsold. overall will recommend!!!

PULAU KUKUSAN (Indonesia) Those visiting Labuan Bajo on Flores, should consider hiring a pump boat and heading out to explore some of the islands within an hour or two of port. We did just that on a particularly calm day; packing SUPs and snorkel gear to facilitate play. We dropped in to the small fishing village clinging to the steep sides of Pulau Kukusan. Apart from the infants who were terrified by my white skin - the community made us feel most welcome. Like most islands, there was trash on the beach and scattered on the dusty laneways between stilt houses, but we later learned that there is no municipal collection of waste. So what to do? Burn it? Prohibited apparently these days. Bury is? There’s not enough land on the island to enable this. Dump it into the sea? That too is illegal. Leave it to blow away? Rats have to be kept in check by starting cats as disease is caused by the pests that trash attract. As the locals will readily say: ‘what are we to do? We can’t let our children get sick, so we have no choice but to dump it into the sea.’ Thankfully, there looks to be an innovative solution on the horizon. A new service - using confiscated fishing boats - that will collect the waste from each island for proper disposal at Labuan Bajo. It can’t come a moment to soon for the villagers and the marine life. BYO food.

What a beautiful place 😍 you need to be careful when hike up to the summit. It's not too high, but the path is slippery because the track contains gravel and sand. Don't forget to use sunscreen and wearing hat to protect your body and head. Bring plenty of water too. You'll be thirsty after have a little trekking
Anisa P — Google review
A Beautiful small Island that is good for short hill trekking and snorkelling. Points to remember is the hill climb and down climb are quite difficult so not really recommended for solo traveller that has physical difficulties. Guide that can help are really recommended. Also, for the snorkelling on the beautiful beach, as the sea clearance between the beach and the sea corals are very close by, you can see the small fishes that lives in the small ecosystems. Please be carefull not to destroy them as you enjoy the beautiful sea view.
Stefanus H — Google review
Breathtaking views through challenging hiking for the amateur hiker. Prepare a hiking pole since the rocky terrain can be steep, especially going downhill. The shades of blue you get to see is spectacular.
Puspa C — Google review
The scenic view from the hill top is stunning, it is a must for you to reach the top, but u should be reallly careful due to the steepness. It is only for adults, not for children or elderly. The beach is very clear and has few area with corals, but it's not as good as some other islands. Nevertheless the beach is good for children.
Kevin S — Google review
Beautiful beach, amazing view from the top of the island. Snorkeling is good too. Not far from Labuan Bajo, a good place to stop on the way to Rinca. The hike to the top is a bit steep but easy.
Nicolas P — Google review
Stunning place, slept on the beach overnight in a tent. The only thing I found bad about it was the amount of tourists that go there during the day and some of the boats just come right onto the beach which can't be good for the coral. There is a very nice view from the top though.
O W — Google review
Cute small island with two side oriented beach, natural shelter under the trees, partially preserved coral reef. It is great if there are not too many boats.

I am so happy to finally make it to Komodo National Park! I have been looking forward to this trip for years, I only wish we could have spent more time adventuring the island. The guides were knowledgeable, kind and spoke English. They helped everyone to learn about and safely get pictures with the world's largest lizard. They made sure we were safe and did a great job of answering everyone's questions. We were only at the park for about an hour, but had time to walk a short trail, about 1 mile, get photos with the dragons and shop for souvenirs. I would recommend this to anyone that love lizards and wants to spend a little time hiking off the beach.

I had an incredible experience on Rinca Island observing the Komodo dragons! The scenery was stunning, and the guided tour provided a wealth of information. The guides were not only knowledgeable but also exceptionally kind, ensuring everyone gained insights about the world’s largest lizard. The tour at the park takes around an hour, and consists of a short walking trail of about a mile, and you can capture some fantastic photos with the dragons.

Amazing Indonesia National Park on the island of Rinca. They start by sharing there are no guarantees of actually seeing the Komodo dragons. On the day we went ....over 1 dozen. Fascinating. The naturalists/guides do an excellent job. You are safe as you stay on raised boardwalk to look for the dragons!

Kanawa Island Resort is a stunning destination with perfect beaches for snorkeling. The area offers a wide variety of colorful fish, and lucky visitors may even spot turtles, rays, and sharks. The snorkeling spots are large and not too deep, making them ideal for beginners. During high tide, deeper water snorkeling is also possible. However, the area near the jetty provides a different snorkeling experience with consistently deep waters.
The place is absolutely beautiful. The beaches are just perfect for snorkeling. Lots of variety of fishes with multiple colors, and if you are lucky you will see turtles, rays, and sharks. The snorkeling area is large, but not deep, perfect for first-time snorkeling. But if you came during the high tide, you can enjoy some of the deeper water snorkeling too. The areas near the jetty is also consistently deep, with different snorkeling experience than the shallower waters. Best time to snorkels are in the early morning, before all the passenger ships coming in. Beach is clean, and the sands are good. Best time to enjoy is near sunset time, as the views are beautiful indeed. The resort is definitely not 5 star, but that is expected because the place is on a remote island which are not connected to any utilities on the mainland, thus everything is more simple. Electricity may not be available 24 hours, but during the night it will work. Fresh water usage is limited, due to it have to be resupplied from the mainland. The food is excellent, though the price is a bit high, but fair considering the situation. The resort does not look to good, but the main attraction is the beach, not the resort. To enjoy the beach, lots of chairs and lazy chairs are provided. The staffs are all friendly, and all nice. Really nice place!
Daniel J — Google review
This resort does not exist any more. Just ruins, debris and garbages left. The wooden pier is ok. Place nice for snorkling. Under a condition that you accept plastic wastes floating around and sinking to the corals and seaweeds.
Pawel L — Google review
We came here after a full day of private boating around several islands. The access is easy, but this place is crowded as most boat tours end their trips at this location, offering snorkeling around the coral reefs here. Unfortunately, this means that the location is very crowded. In fact, it’s so crowded that it is hard to get in the water where the boats dock. Our captain insisted that we get in at the pier, because the reef supposedly was better there, but we went to the beach and got into the water there instead. This proved to be much better. We snorkeled from there to the end of the pier, where there is a drop-off and not much of a coral reef. In fact, there were much better coral reefs further east and along the beach - opposite to what our captain said and where all the tourists were snorkeling. We saw an abundance of fish, several mantas, starfish, sea urchins, and there was very little trash in the water. None of the tourists at the pier, at least whom we asked, saw anything like that. Also, at the pier, people bring bread and other things for the fish, a practice we find simply appalling. Lastly, the beach is extremely dirty with plastic trash everywhere. We recommend NOT stopping at this location but another location for snorkeling, for instance the pink beach, which had far better visibility and is less polluted.
Bull D — Google review
Snorkelling experience was good, but beware of shallow waters and coral as one can get hurt if not careful. Further away from the beach is better and safer. Overall, good experience but there are better snorkelling spots and beaches in the area

Well actually i were in Kanawa Island for some holiday things. Brought my group and for enjoying the sunset and snorkeling . The problem is this place quiet hectic in high season period. And so many many many tourist do the same things. And beside that, in this island also not well managed, since there is many plastic on the beach. i hope they gonna improving this island as well. it's just too pity for me. but overall, at least i keep enjoy the 'differences'.

Nice island. Good spot for snorkeling. Good view. The resort is not so quite neat indeed. Nice beach with heavy and rough sands. I think there is no air conditioner in the room (I don't stay here, just observe the resort from outside). A little bit messy with a lot of falling leaves and tweaks. If you looking for good spot for snorkeling or playing in the beach without not so much considering about facilities/accomodation, I think this resort is a good choice.
Oryza T — Google review
From the ship we reached this island by boat. climbed the overgrown road up and someone was even bitten by mosquitoes. I advise you to wear comfortable shoes, as the road is not the best. When we got up, we found cool stones at the top, on which we met the dawn. From this place you can see the fishermen and the sound of the boat motor. But the view that opens up to the beauty is the best thing about it. The island is almost deserted now as there are no tourists. the perfect place to meet the sunset in one with nature.

Our group stayed at the fishing village as part of our tour. Nice place and people. The bat tour was interesting but might need to keep to the edge of the cave we disturbed them more than I thought when we walked in a short distance to get a betting look. There was a dead bat but it was dead several days and not from our group. We got to see a dragon nest, learn about the dragon's nesting practices, saw some deer, and saw a female dragon that was near the village from a far distance (not able to get good photos but nice to see it)

Padar Island, located in the Komodo National Park near Labuan Bajo in Indonesia, is a picturesque destination known for its diverse wildlife and breathtaking panoramic views. The island boasts three distinct beaches with white, pink, and black sand. Visitors can embark on a 20-minute uphill hike to reach the main viewpoint and witness the stunning beauty of all three beaches from above.
Padar Island is the first stop on the day trip package with most touring operators. You get to climb the top of the hill here and see some breathtaking views of the nature, the hike is worth the effort. The steps are easy to climb on except at the last section where it gets a little difficult for people who are mostly sedentary otherwise.

This piece of island is simply stunning. Upon reaching the island, you’ll be greeted by the carefree and beautiful deers that reside there. We had the good fortune of arriving earlier, so the crowd wasn’t there. We made the ascent, which takes around 20-30 minutes depending on your fitness level. However, there are stops along the way with breathtaking views and photo opportunities. But the best part comes when you reach the summit. You’ll be glad you made it here, and the view is absolutely breathtaking. The crystal-clear waters along the curved shoreline, the waves crashing against the rocks, and the entire backdrop are too magnificent to be described in words. We spent a few minutes enjoying the peace and quiet before the place started to fill up with people. Luckily, we got what we needed. 😊

Padar Island is one of the most famous and photographed destinations within **Komodo National Park** in Indonesia, renowned for its incredible panoramic views. 1. Iconic Viewpoint and Beaches The Famous View: The main draw is the relatively short, but steep, hike to the island's summit. From the top, you get a breathtaking 360-degree vista of the rugged, savannah-covered island and its three crescent-shaped bays. Tri-Colored Beaches: What makes the view unique is that the three bays visible from the top each have a beach with a different colored sand: White Sand,Black Sand(volcanic in origin),Pink Sand (due to pulverized red coral mixing with the white sand, similar to the famous Pink Beach nearby) 2. Location and Access Location:Padar is the third-largest island in Komodo National Park, situated between Komodo Island and Rinca Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Access:The island is uninhabited and is visited primarily by boat tours. Starting Point:The gateway to the park, and Padar Island, is Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores. Travel Time: A boat trip from Labuan Bajo to Padar Island typically takes about 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the type of boat (speed boat is faster). Tour Options:Most visitors take a day trip or are on a multi-day liveaboard tour that includes Padar, Komodo, Rinca, and Manta Point. 3. Hiking and Activities The Hike:The trek to the viewpoint is generally considered moderately challenging due to the steep incline, but it's short, usually taking 30-45 minutes to reach the top. The trail now features a mix of wooden stairs, stone steps, and dirt path sections. Best Time to Hike: To avoid the intense heat, most tours aim for a sunrise or late afternoon/sunset hike for the best golden light for photography. Other Activities:Visitors can also swim, relax on the different colored beaches, or enjoy snorkeling/diving in the surrounding clear waters, which are known for rich marine life. 4. Important Note No Komodo Dragons:While the island is part of Komodo National Park, Padar Island is largely free of the famous Komodo dragons (though historically they were present). For dragon sightings, you will need to visit the neighboring Komodo Island or Rinca Island with a park ranger.

Padar Island is a rugged, volcanic island in Komodo National Park, Indonesia, known for its stunning panoramic views, diverse beaches, and dramatic landscapes. Visitors hike to the summit for iconic viewpoints and can find beaches with white, black, and even pink sand on a single island. The best time to visit depends on weather and crowd preferences, with a peak season from June to August and a shoulder season from April to May or September to October

Arrive here at arround 8 AM and already packed up with tourist, recommend to go here at low season so it does not get to crowded when you arrive at the top, the views from the top viewpoint are incredible and really worth with the hike with many steps. The beach is also very beautiful

The morning at Padar Island felt like stepping into a dream. As the first light began to touch the sky, the soft hues of orange and pink painted the hills and sea in the most magical way. The air was cool and gentle, carrying the faint sound of birds chirping from somewhere between the cliffs a natural melody that made the whole island feel alive 🏝️ Climbing up to the viewpoint before sunrise was a bit challenging, but every step felt worth it once I reached the top. Standing there, watching the sun slowly rise over the three curved bays, I felt this quiet sense of awe. The view was beyond words layers of golden light kissing the ocean, calm waves shimmering, and the soft rustle of morning wind brushing through the grass. If you ever visit, come early. Listen to the birds, watch the sky change colors, and let the beauty of the island fill your heart. It’s not just beautiful it’s legendary. 🌅

Padar Island is actually insane. The hike is lowkey a workout but the view at the top is just breath taking and genuinely worth every single step. The layered hills and different coloured waters look unreal, like straight out of a wallpaper or drone edit. The scenery is so aesthetic it does not feel real at all. If you are into nature, photos, or just chasing main character moments, this place delivers. Pure vibes, pure beauty, 10/10 must visit if you are anywhere near Komodo.

Pink Beach, located in Komodo National Park, is a stunning destination known for its pale pink sandy shores and crystal-clear waters. The beach is a popular spot for snorkeling and diving due to the vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. Its unique color comes from the mixture of white sand and red coral fragments, creating a picturesque pink hue.
It’s pink, yes but the colors that dance with the ocean. The blue skies and the white sand is amazing. There is no toilet, just saying. The bushes will be your best friend. More @zsoltzsemba

✨ Pink Beach in Komodo is absolutely stunning — soft sand with a natural pink shade, crystal-clear water, and amazing snorkeling. A unique and peaceful spot that feels like paradise — definitely worth visiting while in Bali & Komodo! 🌸🏝️

The Pink Beach on Padar Island is often referred to as Long Pink Beach to distinguish it from Pantai Merah on Komodo Island. It is a stunning, lesser-visited alternative to the main Pink Beach. Here is a review and guide for visiting the Pink Beach on Padar Island: The Experience: Remote Beauty and Vibrant Color Vibrant Pink Sand: This Beach has a brighter, more vibrant pink hue than its counterpart on Komodo Island, making it a stronger contender for the "pinkest" beach in the region. The color comes from the crushed red coral fragments mixing with the white sand. Secluded Atmosphere:Because the main focus of Padar Island is the famous viewpoint hike, the Long Pink Beach tends to be **less crowded** than the one on Komodo Island, offering a more peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Dramatic Backdrop:It is nestled in a cove on the northern side of Padar Island, backed by the same rugged, grassy, volcanic hills that make the Padar viewpoint so famous, creating a highly dramatic and picturesque setting. 2. Activities at Padar's Pink Beach The experience is usually a combination of the iconic Padar viewpoint hike and a visit to the beach. Snorkeling & Swimming:The water is crystal-clear and warm. It is an excellent spot for snorkeling, with vibrant coral reefs close to the shore, though some say the snorkeling is better at the Komodo Island Pink Beach. Relaxing Due to the fewer crowds, it's a perfect place to simply relax on the unique sand and soak up the sun. You can rent kayaks/canoes in the calm bay. | Photography The contrast between the brilliant pink sand, the turquoise water, and the surrounding green/brown hills makes it one of the most photogenic beaches in Indonesia. Local Vendors Unlike the main Komodo Pink Beach (Pantai Merah), the Long Pink Beach on Padar Island often has a few small local vendors (**warungs**) selling light snacks and cold drinks/coconuts. | Access:Padar Island's Pink Beach is only accessible by boat tour from Labuan Bajo, the gateway town to the Komodo National Park. In summary: If your primary goal is to see the most vibrant pink sand possible in a less crowded setting, the Long Pink Beach on Padar Island is often the preferred choice among travelers.

Pink Beach in Labuan Bajo is a beach in Komodo National Park which is famous for its pink sand. To reach there, you need to take a boat from Labuan Bajo, usually as part of a tour package to Komodo Island. This place offers beautiful scenery and activities such as snorkelling and swimming in the clear water with coral reefs that are rich in marine life.

This pink beach is beautiful but the shore is a little bit too short. I should have gone to another pink beach on Padar Island one.

Reality is different from web info. Come in October which is already a low season, still, way too many human around than fishes and too much rubbish. Not really that natural consider the amount of shops here, something needs to be done before this place got trashed.

Beautiful beach with soft pink tinged sand. Enjoyed a fresh coconut for 40k.
Ghifaroza — Google review
A breathtaking place where wild green islands meet the calm ocean. The atmosphere is both peaceful and powerful, making it feel truly special. The sand has a soft pink hue, though not as bright as in some edited pictures – but still unique and beautiful in its natural way. What doesn’t belong here is the trash. Instead of endless drone and selfie-stick sessions, each boat could easily take a bag of garbage back to help preserve this paradise. Overall, an unforgettable spot with stunning scenery and a rare pink touch on the beach.

Komodo is a popular island destination known for its opportunities for diving and observing the world's largest lizards, the Komodo dragons. Visitors can enjoy trekking with rangers and guides who provide information about KN Park and its surroundings. The park offers facilities such as accommodation, tourist information, cafes, toilets, souvenirs, and a port. Additionally, visitors can visit Komodo Village to experience the local culture of ethnic Bajo, Bima, and Makassar communities.
Fantastic and awesome experience sighting the Komodo dragons in their natural environment. It took some effort to walk around the island to search for these reptiles. We found them mainly near the water holes and they were not aggressive as long as they were not provoked. We were advised by the guides to keep a reasonable distance to be safe. Definitely worth a visit to be up close and personal with the dragons

This tour need more love for part to the local and the Labuan Bajo people. Will be different if they teach about the life and how it’s the community of Dragons… They just help you to take pictures. In Labuan Bajo you need to pay a Fee for 350.000 rupias for travel to the island and it’s sad found they even not have a good toilet for the tourist.

It's a lifetime experience to come to komodo habitat island. While it's very hot temperatures and sun heat, and you should bring enough water, you can feel a difference circumstances in the island. The sound of the crows will welcome you as you enter the gate. Came here in October and encounter only 1 adult komodo and 2 little komodos. There are lot of merchandise sellers in the island, and they got little upset and angry when you skip them

As the part of New7Wonders of Nature, Komodo Island is very beautiful. When you met the dragon, they look so tempting. It is good to start your day by tracking the forest of Komodo National Park and end up by saw the Komodo relaxing their morning time at the beach. I guarantee you will be very excited when you see this exotic dragon. Meanwhile, you can also enjoy the clear sea water when you are sailing from Labuan Bajo to the Komodo Island.

The real dinosaur that can you see now in this era. Komodo dragon is a ancient reptil and just a view island you can find this animal, and komodo island one of them. Becarefull because komodo is not a pet and it dangerous if you near from this animal. But don't worry the rangers in komodo national park will guide you if you entering this location. And they will give you a lot information about komodo. But don't expect you will find Komodo in your journey, because sometimes when matting season you will get disapointed when the Komodo is not appears, the rangers said that is could happend because is wildlife not in zoo. Maybe you will charge around 250 IDR for local and around 425 IDR for aliens. But it's still afordable for your experience, the place quite well maintenace, restroom is available, and have tracking path when you entering the jungle. When you going thirsty maybe you can buy in small local shop around here, the price relative more higher than in main island, but it's worth for touirsm place. If you want buy some souvenir i think the price here more cheaper than you buy in souvenir shop around airport.

Komodo Island is one of the famous tourism destination in Indonesia and the beautiful scenery will amuse all the tourist. No wonder this place became of new-7-wonder of nature. It is good to start your day by tracking the forest of Komodo National Park and then see the komodo dragon enjoying their time on the beach in the morning. The view from Komodo National Park is stunning. Looking forward to exploring new things in Komodo Island on my Christmas break this year.

Visited in August (not high season for dragons) and saw a few dragons - a couple of big ones and a baby in the tree. Supposedly it's much better in peak season. Still definitely worth a visit to see the dragons in their natural habitat!

The island is beautiful, the trekking paths are easy and stress free, but public amenities like toilet still needed improvement, especially since this is supposed to be a world class attraction. I'm a little bit disappointed with the ranger because he seemed very reluctant to take us on a tour along the medium route (we didn't even take the long route), but was very informative. We're also swarmed by little children pushing us to buy souvenirs. It's a bit annoying but understandable since the pandemic hit their economy too. Please note that komodos are wild animals and there's always a chance you won't see one, especially on a hot day.
