Travelled in Mar 2020 just before the lockdown. Had a great experience. The entire Negi family was very warm. We were served with delicious paranthas as breakfast before we left. Also, while camping at Deoria Tal, meals were freshly prepared and choice of stay was also given(room or tent). Highly recommended!

Shri Tungnath Temple, Panch Kedar

Mentioned on
5 lists
Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Tungnath is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated on a mountain peak 12,000 feet above sea level. The 2.5 to 3 mile trek to reach the temple is quite challenging but fulfilling and offers breathtaking views of snow clad mountains. Limited food options are available for visitors, but they can enjoy Maggi noodles while admiring the scenic beauty around them.
Easy trek of 4km. It took me 2 hours to reach the temple and one hour to get down. Chandrashila is further 2km trek from the temple. Where you will get 360° view of mountains. Its a good trek for all weather. If you like snow trek visit the place in Jan & Feb to have experience of snow covered trails. If you like flowers and colorful trek, this trek is full of Buransh flower in Mar and Apr. But the temple is closed from Nov to Apr. So during this period you can only enjoy trek and surroundings. While from May to Oct the temple is open and you can visit the temple. But wont get any good views like snow and flowers. So it depends on your purpose and choice. I visited this place twice. Once in Mar end and second time in Oct starting this year. Sharing pics for reference of both the season. For Chandrashila view, I would suggest to start the trek in night or early morning around 3am to see sunrise from Chandrashila. Or plan your trek to reach Chandrashila before 2 pm in the afternoon. Because after 2pm weather changes in mountains and there will be clouds and you won't be able to get any view as they are thick clouds and wont be clear after 2pm.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 — Mesmerizing Shree Tungnath Trek in October Trekking to Shree Tungnath Temple in October was an unforgettable experience! The weather was cool and pleasant, with clear skies offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped Chaukhamba and Kedarnath peaks. The trail was covered with vibrant autumn colors, making every step feel magical. The trek is moderate — not too difficult, but you’ll need good stamina, especially for the last steep climb towards the temple. Once you reach the top, the serenity and divine energy of Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, make it all worth it. If you start early morning, you can even trek further to Chandrashila Peak for an incredible sunrise view. October is the perfect month — fewer crowds, clear views, and pleasant weather. Highly recommended for spiritual seekers and mountain lovers alike! 🏔️🙏

Shri Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world, is an incredibly peaceful and spiritual destination. The main journey involves a challenging but rewarding 4 km uphill trek to Tungnath, which typically takes about 4 hours to climb. For those visiting both Tungnath and Chandrashila Peak and returning to the starting point, the total round trip time is approximately 8 hours. Trekking Details: Trekking Poles: Sticks for support are highly recommended and are readily available for rent at the starting point of the trek. Best Time to Visit: October is the ideal month for a visit, offering the most favorable weather conditions. Beyond Tungnath: For the adventurous traveler, the Chandrashila Peak offers another wonderful trek, requiring an additional 1 km climb from Tungnath for truly spectacular views.
Nishant D — Google review
Tungnath Temple is an absolutely divine and breathtaking place — truly a gem in the Himalayas! 🙏 It’s the highest Shiva temple in the world and surrounded by stunning mountain views that leave you speechless. The trek to the temple is moderate and filled with mesmerizing scenery — snow-capped peaks, meadows, and clouds floating right beside you. The peaceful energy at the top and the view of the Himalayas from there make it a once-in-a-lifetime experience 🌄. A must-visit for both devotees and nature lovers!
AMAN R — Google review
Om Namah Parvati Patye Har Har Mahadev! Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world, located at an altitude of 3,680 meters (12,073 ft) in the Garhwal Himalayas. The best time to visit is between September to November, when the temple doors are open for devotees. If you’re planning a visit, I highly recommend starting your trek early, around 3 to 3:30 AM. Trekking in the dark might sound tough, but the trail is well-maintained and much easier when it’s cool and quiet. Reaching the temple before it opens is a truly peaceful and spiritual experience. For those chasing sunrise magic, don’t miss the Chandrashila Peak trek, which is about 2 km from Tungnath. The views from up there — sunrise lighting up the snow peaks, and clouds swirling below you — are unforgettable. Take photos, make time-lapse videos, but don’t forget to carry warm clothes and shoes with good grip. There are a few local shops near the temple selling water, tea, and snacks. Yes, the prices are a bit higher — but considering the effort it takes to stock supplies at this altitude, it’s totally fair and appreciated. Photos and videos can never fully capture the beauty and peace of this place — it's something you have to feel with your own eyes and soul.
Shankar R — Google review
Peaceful and Divine Experience at Tungnath Temple Tungnath Temple is truly a heavenly place! The trek to reach it is short but steep, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and fresh air. The silence, the sound of wind, and the divine aura of Lord Shiva make the entire journey worth it. Once you reach the temple, the feeling is beyond words — peaceful, pure, and deeply spiritual. The view from the top, especially during sunrise or sunset, is unforgettable. The route is clean, and small tea stalls along the way help you recharge. Overall, it’s a perfect blend of adventure and spirituality — a must-visit for every nature and Shiva devotee.

Tungnath Temple is the world's highest Shiva temple, located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India, at an altitude of 3,680 meters. It is part of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage and is accessible via a scenic trek from Chopta, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks. The 1,000-year-old temple is significant for its spiritual importance, and according to legend, it is the spot where Lord Shiva's arms appeared after he transformed into a bull to escape the Pandavas.

Visiting Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world, was an experience filled with peace, adventure, and breathtaking beauty. The atmosphere at the temple is peaceful and spiritual. Ropeway To Auli

The Ropeway to Auli offers a unique experience, with the cable car providing space for up to 30 people. The journey covers an elevation gain of almost 4000 ft, making it a rare and scenic ride in India. The 25-minute trip showcases breathtaking snow-capped peaks and picturesque landscapes. While the car may feel a bit cramped when full, the staff is helpful and accommodating.
Very nice experience. I have travelled in many ropeways in India as well as in in other countries. Considering the cable-car itself it's not anything special. 30 people can stand in the car. It's bit uncomfortable when full as the car itself is not that spacious. However what is special is the terrain where the cable car is built. The lower tower is at 6252 ft and the upper tower is at 10,200 ft. So the elevation gain is almost 4000 ft which is very rare in India. It takes almost 25 minutes to go up and 22 minutes to come down. The scenary from the Ropeway is Unbeatable. The lower tower is having lots of Peach trees. As we visited in August the trees were full of delicious 😋😋 peach 🍑🍑 fruits. We took the liberty of picking up some. The local authority welcomed us. It was one of the most pleasant experience. Thanks to them.

Auli ropeway or Gondola is the worth having experience when you're in Auli. It's an open flying trolley that takes you to the top and you witness breathtaking mountain views. Price per person is Ra.500/- only. You can do several snow adventure activities like Skiing, sledging, trekking etc when you reach the top.
Vatsal G — Google review
Its the most unique experience. Ropeway costs 1000 and 500 for chair car incase you have reservations. Its a 25 min ride and the most enticing experience. You can see all snow tops. Beautiful scenery. . Tickets for ropeway gets booked easily and it closes by 4. So keep your timelines scheduled.
Tanvi S — Google review
The longest ropeway in India.A full 25 minutes of hanging over some of the most picture-postcard perfect locales ever. We took it a total of four times during our five days stay there. The staff is helpful the gondola has a standing-only place and in case you want to go to the Auli ski resort you get down at a pillar before the end and take a rickety lift six floors down and then take the ski lift to the resort. The experience of sitting with your legs dangling and nothing but a bar between you and everything else around you ( in the ski lift) is like being in another world altogether. Even if you are not booked into one of the resorts in joshi math, please take this trip up to auli . It's worth every minute and every rupee sent on it
Neelesh K — Google review
Nice place to visit. It’s very beautiful to visit both in winter and off winter. There are variety of flowers in this place. They looks so mesmerizing. After the rope way we took mule ride to see flowers. It was so beautiful. One must visit.
Sharath K — Google review
We went there but couldn't experience it. It's very important to get online booking done if you are choosing a crowded day like new year. Also, the offline booking portal opens at 9 am. So if you haven't got online ticket, try buying it offline early morning.
Rushali C — Google review
The true beauty of this place can be enjoyed only during peak winter that's when the entire area is covered in snow and winter sports like 🎿 is very popular. If the sky is clear and visibility is good then you would be able to see some of the peaks. Coming back to the ropeway it's a joy ride for sure but on the expensive side. The counter accepts payment in cash only (as usual in most part of UK and UP). Be aware that though there is a departure and return schedule the cable car won't take off until they have 20-25 people. The ground staff will ask you to enjoy pakoda and wait for your turn. The ride it self is good and takes ~ 21 mins one-way. After reaching the peak you can roam around and enjoy the view , take a pony ride or simply sit back and enjoy pakoda again :-).
Sibu N — Google review
This ropeway has two places to board. One is from Joshimath which is closed cabin and you have to go standing and maximum people allowed in cabin ropeway taxi is 25 people. This ropeway taxi goes at the maximum altitude of 10200 feet from where you can view Nandadevi, Trishul, Hathi ghoda Palki and many more peaks. Another ropeway to board is from Auli, which is open sitting seats and four people can sit on it.

Must visit places when you are in kaunsani. Temples are very old and the power you will feel is amazing. The parvati statue inside the main shrine is amazing. 26 avatars of parvati are carved on sides. The lake is good and you can go boating there.
Shraddha P — Google review
The temples are well-preserved and offer a glimpse into the rich cultural and religious history of the region. The priests are warm and welcoming, adding to the spiritual charm of the place. The nearby river and lush greenery further enhance the tranquil experience. A must-visit for anyone looking to connect with nature and spirituality. Highly recommended!

Baijnath is very famous for the ancient temples and historical importance. The temple is located on the banks of the beautiful Gomti River, in the Bageshwar district (Kumaon region), Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to the Lord Vaidyanatha (Lord Shiva as the Lord of physicians). It is said that (euttaranchal.com) the temple was built by the Kumaon Katyuri King in around 1150 A.D. This is a temple complex with the idols of Shiva, Ganesh, Parvati, Chandika, Kuber, Surya and Brahma. The enchanting view of the Himalayan peaks is great seen from this place, particularly the Sun-rise and Sun-set reflections on the mountain. We have visited this place in the month of October with a clear sky all the time. It’s a must visit place

Shridhar Baijnath Group of Temples – Serene Heritage by the Riverside If you're traveling from Kausani towards Munsiyari, the Shridhar Baijnath Group of Temples makes for a perfect cultural and spiritual stopover. Located just about 16 km from Kausani in the peaceful town of Baijnath, this ancient temple complex sits beautifully along the banks of the Gomti River. It's not just another temple visit — it's a moment of connection with Uttarakhand’s rich history and timeless architecture. Dating back to the 12th century, the temples are known for their exquisite stone carvings and tranquil setting. There's a calmness in the air, and the view of the surrounding hills adds to the peaceful experience. It’s a great place to stretch your legs, soak in the heritage, and click some memorable photos. The temples are dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva (Baijnath), and the complex features beautiful stone-carved shrines and idols that reflect the rich architectural heritage of the Katyuri dynasty. It's not very crowded, making it a perfect place to sit, reflect, and connect with nature and history. This stop also fits naturally into the route to Munsiyari via Bageshwar, Chaukori, and Birthi Falls. It adds both spiritual value and a refreshing break during the long road journey. You don't need to spend hours here — even a 30-45 minute pause is enough to admire its beauty. This site is not just a religious stop but a cultural gem worth visiting for its peaceful aura, beautiful setting, and ancient artistry. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, culture, heritage, serenity and a slice of Uttarakhand’s spiritual past or just some quiet time amid nature.

It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the state and is known for its unique architecture and historical significance.Built in the Nagara style of North Indian temple architectureThe temple is adorned with intricate carvings of deities, floral patterns, and mythological scenes
Vaibhav S — Google review
The temples are ancient and worth visiting. Located on a promontory jutting over a bend of the Gomti river, the temples beauty has been enhanced by damming the river and creation of a lake. Sadly the landscaping around the lake is in poor taste, with ugly architecture and gaudy pedal boats, totally out of sync with the ancient architecture of the temples. Encroachments around the temple overshadow the temples themselves. This place holds a lot of promise, as a spiritual destination, as a recreational zone and as a birdwatching nature reserve. A lot of effort is required to make this a tourist destination. At the moment, Baijnath, with its ugly, poorly constructed buildings has no town planning and nil building regulations. It's a surprise anyone would wish to come here, or having come unwittingly, stay for long.

Remote area only accessible by a trail, offering a peaceful waterfall near a small temple & caves.
The visit to the Rudradhari Mahadev temple and waterfall, nestled in the heart of a serene forest was a tranquil experience. Our guide, Laxmanji, was helpful and knowledgeable, adding to the richness of our journey. Being away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and spending time in such a pristine natural atmosphere was a refreshing change. Mild as it was, the impact of the experience left a lasting impression. A must-visit affair indeed!

Ideal for those seeking a short, thrilling getaway amidst the beauty of the Himalayas.

Rudhradhari temple and waterfall, both are exceptional places. I went during monsoon which made the trek lush green and waterfall full of flow. Had a bath, visited temple, with no rush at the place. Vibe of this place is unbeatable if you're looking for a spiritual or a peaceful experience.

Beautiful drive through the Kumaoni countryside from Kausani and then a 1.5km walk alongside creek through the forest to falls (underwhelming) and temple. Quiet, peaceful and there are food places at the start of the walk.

From my experience the best time to visit the Rudradhari Falls would be during the monsoon or later May. There is a beautiful trek of about 1.5KM. The waterfall has a Shiv Temple adjacent to it. There are many Eateries before the trek but none on the way. The water is clean and cold. Must visit! Neil's Tip:DO NOT VISIT DURING SUMMERS

Hidden waterfall with good story to hear from locals. Peaceful place with a small trek to reach.

This temple is inside a cave deep in the forest. The hike to the temple is a short yet lovely one. Especially if you start very early in the morning. I had a great time hopping boulders, crossing streams, picking up Rhododendron flowers and clicking ton of pics. A must do hike if in Kausani, but not for the seniors who may have joint pain or are not used to hiking.
Hrishikesh B — Google review
Was here during heavy rains and the trek seemed not so easy. We hired a guide who charged us 300 after a little bargaining. But the guide was worth it and he also helped with our 2 year old kid. We had to cross 6 streams out of which 2 were knee deep as the river was little flooded. It was worth the visit once we reached the waterfall which also had a heavy flow. We visited during peak monsoon and you would need to check for leech everytime you cross the stream. Definately the trek was worth it once you reach the temple. Please note there is no Jio or Airtel network at this place.

Anasakti Ashram, located in Kausani, Uttarakhand, is a peaceful abode dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. This religious site offers a picturesque setting with stunning views of the mountains and sunrise. The ashram features a prayer room, small museum with a picture gallery showcasing Gandhi's life, and accommodation facilities in old-style rooms reminiscent of an old Dak Bangla.
Anasakti Ashram in Kausani, nestled amidst the Himalayas, holds a historic charm. The sublime beauty of this place is amplified by its connection to Mahatma Gandhi who took refuge here. You can sense a serene and peaceful atmosphere, following the same tranquility that Gandhiji once experienced. It houses a small museum preserving his teachings and a library with a rich collection of his works. If you seek a place for quiet introspection coupled with scenic views, Anasakti Ashram is truly an ideal retreat.

A quiet and peaceful place with beautiful mountain views. Entry is free, and you can spend 1–2 hours here. Quite high parking fee required for four-wheelers, but space is limited. I would recommend it for a one-time visit if you're in Kausani and got spare time.
Dr R — Google review
What a great place. I will suggest you all visit this place in morning then you will able to see clear view of himalayas and its so beautiful. Very peaceful place. The ashram is located at a convenient distance of a kilometre from the Kausani bus stand. Gandhiji spent a number of days here in 1929 and a lot of people come to this place following in his footsteps. Local legend proudly suggests that Gandhiji was so besotted by the natural beauty of the place that he exclaimed that this was truly the Switzerland of India. He is believed to have been working on his theory of Anasakti Yoga, which preaches the belief in the philosophy of non-attachment to the material world. There is a small prayer room in the ashram, where prayers are held every morning and evening. Much like in the rest of the Kumaon region, sublime views of the Himalayas are abundant and omnipresent. The quietude and serenity of the spot is disturbed by little else and heightened by the locally popular reading library. The ashram also features a small archive-like museum that showcases photographs of Mahatma Gandhi’s stay here along with other paraphernalia associated with him. There is also a study and research centre in the ashram, which work towards taking Gandhiji’s philosophies forward. For those looking for an immersive experience, there are a small number of rooms available that can be rented.

It's a great and peaceful place. You may stay here as well. They have cottages and rooms to stay and food on very reasonable prices.

The place is very serene & tranquil with a lot of history attached to it. It is at this very place that Kausani came to be fondly know as the mini Switzerland of India.
Avishek M — Google review
In 1929, Gandhiji came to Kausani for two days but he liked the place so much that he stayed here for 14 days and completed the book Anashakti Yoga. Because of this book, this guest house was named Anashakti Ashram. This place is very beautiful and one can get a panoramic view of the Himalayas from here. Kausani is a small village but a very peaceful place.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Girija Devi Temple is a quaint and serene temple located on a hilltop overlooking the Kosi River. Accessible by a pedestrian river footbridge, it sits amidst scenic forested surroundings, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Despite its small size, the temple's serene ambiance and decked up idol of Devi make it a compelling destination for visitors.
This temple is available in a beautiful location near Dhikuli. It is a riversideview where you can enjoy swimming as well, being careful with children. Established 8-10 km from Ramnagar town, this temple is quite old and famous. You need to climb around 50-60 stairs to go there. After that you can enjoy the riverside view and click some really wonderful pictures. 4 KM away there is the Dhangarhi museum, which is a bonus for kids. Both places are must visit if you are going to Ramnagar or Jim Corbett National Park.

Garjiya Devi Temple in Ramnagar is truly a hidden gem! The location is absolutely beautiful, and being right by the riverside adds a serene charm to the whole experience. It’s not just a spiritual place but also an awesome spot for a picnic with family and friends. However, one concern I had was the littering around the river. It takes away from the natural beauty and peaceful vibe of the area. I really hope visitors become more responsible, and some proper dustbins and awareness signs are put up. Also, having toilets easily accessible below the bridge would be a great help. It would ensure cleanliness in the temple premises and make the overall experience even better. Highly recommend visiting, but let’s all do our part to keep this place clean and beautiful!

This is a beautiful temple located by the riverside, surrounded by a serene and scenic environment. The location is excellent, and you can even take a bath or play in the river. To reach the Devi, you’ll need to climb some steep steps, but it’s truly worth it. An excellent place to visit, though weekends can get crowded.”
Sai R — Google review
A truly memorable moment at one of the best temples—beginning with divine darshan and receiving the sacred prashad. After offering prayers, sitting peacefully by the riverside brings unmatched calm. The crystal-clear water flows gently, so pure you can even drink it. A perfect blend of devotion and serenity.

Girijia Devi Maa temple, located near river at very high, you have to climb straight high stairs, after coming down your legs will shiver. Nice and beautiful place all around the temple with river.

Beautiful temple located near the riverside with amazing views all around. There are a couple of steep stairs to reach the temple and it can get crowded during the weekends.

I have visited this place during my visit to Ramnagar. I have not visited the temple inside so can't comment on it but it has big lines to go inside the temple. Beside that there is a beautiful river which is must visit place. There you can take bath in water and devour with Maggie and basic food which is really a good place for hangout with friends and family.
Apeksha D — Google review
Visiting the Girija Devi Temple🛕 was truly a peaceful and serene experience. Nestled amidst natural beauty, the temple offers a spiritual retreat like no other. Situated on top of a small hillock in the middle of the Kosi River, the temple’s unique location adds to its charm and sacred aura🏔️🏞️ To reach the temple, one must climb a steep staircase, which can be a bit challenging but ultimately rewarding. The panoramic view from the top, coupled with the divine atmosphere, makes the effort worthwhile. Devotees come here to seek the blessings of Devi Girija, and the temple exudes a strong sense of devotion and tranquility🌿🌷 ❗️During peak travel seasons and holidays, expect long queues and a fair amount of waiting. The narrow passage and steep steps can make the ascent difficult, especially for senior citizens or those with mobility issues. It's advisable to avoid the climb if you have any health concerns related to walking or climbing. 💫Overall, the Girija Devi Temple is a must-visit for spiritual seekers and those looking to experience natural beauty along with divinity. Just be prepared for a bit of a climb—and a truly rewarding experience at the top🌟

Jhula Devi Temple, situated in the Kumaon Himalayan range in Uttrakhand, is a sacred 8th-century temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. The temple is famous for its numerous hanging bells and is believed to fulfill wishes of the devotees. According to legend, it was built to protect locals from wild animal attacks. The area around the temple also offers a variety of vegetarian dishes and is known for its apple orchards at Chaubatia Gardens.
Very nice place, situated in the hills of Ranikhet nearby military area. Photography is generally prohibited outside the temple but no restrictions within the temple. Good to see an uncountable number of locks hanging around the temple(as a result of people getting their wishes fulfilled) ❤️

Another must visit temple for any devout hindu visiting Ranikhet & it has a huge reverence. Visit, seek a manokamna & upon realisation of your wish revisit and tie a temple bell on the temple premises. It's very nice!!
Aditya S — Google review
The architecture isn't spectacular, but it's antiquity dates back 700 years according to local lore. The current structure, of course, is more recent in origin and dates to the last century. It's quaintness lies in its thousands of bells, big and small, along the walls of the temples and inside, donated by grateful worshippers. People come here to get their new vehicles blessed!
Saurabh — Google review
The experience was wonderful! The place has an incredible sense of peace and tranquility. Although this temple is often associated with Ranikhet, it’s actually located quite far from there — in a serene, isolated spot right beside the Army Jat Regiment check post. Just 3–4 km from the temple, you can also explore a beautiful garden in choubatia, which is said to be the second largest of its kind in Asia.
Sagar V — Google review
While the architecture of Jhula Devi Temple may not be grand or ornate, its antiquity and spiritual significance make it one of Ranikhet’s most cherished landmarks. According to local lore, the temple’s origins date back nearly 700 years, though the current structure was built in the last century. What truly makes this temple special are the thousands of brass bells — big and small — adorning its walls and ceilings. Each bell has been offered by a devotee in gratitude, symbolizing wishes fulfilled and prayers answered. The gentle sound of the bells swaying in the mountain breeze gives the temple a truly divine and peaceful aura. 🔔🌿 It’s a tradition among locals and travelers to visit the temple to seek blessings for new vehicles, symbolizing safety and good fortune. The energy here feels both sacred and timeless — a blend of faith, history, and the mountain spirit of Kumaon. If you’re in Ranikhet, Jhula Devi Temple is not just a place to visit — it’s a place to feel. 🙏

A distance of 7 km from Ranikhet, near Chaubatia, amidst stunning natural setting, one can easily spot Jhula Devi Temple, an 8th Century ancient Hindu Shrine dedicated to Jhula Devi... another form of Devi Durga. As the idol of Ma Durga ( presiding deity) is sitting on a Jhula, this temple is famous as Jhula Devi Temple. Every year, thousand of devotees offered their prayers to Jhula Devi. People believed this temple as wishfulfilling temple. One someone's wish being fulfilled, he offered small bells to Jhula Devi...so there is thousands of bells. Food was tasty, service was good. But the thing is they are charging almost 50-60% more than the normal prices just because it’s situated in a tourist hotspot. They have a toilet too which is chargeable - 10 INR.

I didn't like it that much. Yes they are situated right next to Birthi falls, so that's a big plus point, but the food prepared is not that great taste wise. At best its quite average. Usually tourists stop here to as its the only restaurant available in a long route .

It's a very nice water fall near to Munsyari. It's on the road about 25 kms before Munsyari. Nice walkway is made to reach near the waterfall. We can reach after approximately 250 stair steps from the road. After reaching at the fall you can have a wonderful views of entire valley and waterfall. There are only a roadside dhabha is available for refreshment. If you are tired of road journy it's a very beautiful spot for a short break....must visit place

Shree Maa Naina Devi Temple, Nainital

Nestled near Nainital Lake, the Shree Maa Naina Devi Temple is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Naina Devi and is known for its colorful shrines and associated mythological stories. Visitors can also enjoy a cable car ride to Snow View observation point for stunning vistas of the town and surrounding mountains, including Nanda Devi, the highest peak in Uttarakhand.
🛕 Naina Devi Temple, Nainital – A Divine Presence Beyond Words I recently visited Naina Devi Temple in Nainital, and I can confidently say—this is not just a temple, it's a powerful spiritual experience that stays with you long after you leave. Right from the moment you step through the entrance arch, there’s something in the air—peace, divinity, and a sense of stillness that instantly calms your heart. The temple is located at the northern end of Naini Lake, and as you climb the short steps, you’re greeted by bells, incense, and the soft chants that echo around the space. Honestly, I didn’t take any photos or videos—not because I forgot, but because I couldn’t. Sometimes, there are places where your phone automatically takes a backseat. I felt so connected and in the moment that capturing it digitally didn’t even cross my mind. You have to go and feel it yourself. Important Note (Real Info Alert!) Don't trust Google Maps for the timings—it’s outdated or just plain wrong. 🕔 The temple opens at 5:00 AM with the morning aarti 🕖 Closes by 7:00 PM sharp — after which the main gates are closed, and no one is allowed in. I saw many people disappointed who came relying on online timings. So, plan accordingly. Inside, the temple is simple yet soul-touching. The main deity, Goddess Naina Devi, is beautifully adorned, and the energy inside the sanctum is intense. There’s also a Hanumanji and Ganeshji murti beside, with hundreds of bells tied by devotees. Offerings like prasad and flowers are available just outside, and the pandas (priests) are polite—not pushy. Other Info: The view of the Naini Lake from the temple compound is stunning—especially around sunset. It gets a bit crowded on weekends and during aarti hours. Shoes must be left outside (there's a counter). Prasad is simple, fresh, and blessed (I took some home for family). Final Words: If you’re in Nainital, don’t miss this temple. Not for the photos, not for sightseeing, but for the calm, the blessings, and the rare feeling of stillness it gives you. Naina Devi isn’t just a place, she’s a presence.

I want to express my heartfelt congratulation and best wishes on the occasion of 'Nanda Ashtami', the festival that celebrates the worship of Goddess Nanda-Sunanda, the leading deity of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Naina Devi Temple is a quiet and peaceful place with great mythological significance for Hindus. The temple management is very good, polite, and well-organized. We visited during the Nanda Devi festival, when the entire area was filled with vibrant energy and a lively fair (mela) was organized as part of the celebrations. During festivals, the temple timings are extended till 10 pm, allowing devotees more time for darshan. It is truly a must-visit place in Nainital, offering both spiritual serenity and cultural vibrance.

SATYAPRAKASH S — Google review
Naini Lake, the heart and soul of Nainital, is a breathtaking natural freshwater body nestled amidst seven lush hills in the Kumaon Himalayas. Its distinctive mango or crescent shape and tranquil, shimmering waters immediately capture the visitor’s eye, making it the focal point of this popular hill station. The Scenic Splendour and Ambiance The sheer beauty of the lake is undeniable. Surrounded by the colonial-era architecture of Mallital (north side) and Tallital (south side), the panorama is stunning, especially during sunrise and sunset. . The hills—capped with pine, deodar, and oak trees—provide a majestic backdrop, creating a cool, peaceful atmosphere that is a much-needed escape from city life. Walking along the Mall Road promenade that runs parallel to the lake is a favored activity, allowing tourists to soak in the beauty and the bustling yet relaxed town culture. Tourist Experience and Activities The main draw of Naini Lake is, without a doubt, boating. Visitors have the choice of various watercraft: Row Boats: Typically charged for a half-round or full-round, these are popular for a relaxed ride, as a boatman rows for you. A half-round usually costs around ₹160 and a full round ₹210 (prices are approximate and can vary). Paddle Boats: Ideal for couples or those who enjoy a bit of light exercise, charges are generally around ₹210 per hour. Boating hours are typically from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the early morning and late evening offering the most photogenic light and serene experience. Beyond boating, the lake acts as a hub for other attractions, including the nearby Naina Devi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, lending the area a profound religious and historical significance. A cable car ride near the lake offers a panoramic bird's-eye view of the emerald-green waters and the surrounding peaks. Mythology and Historical Context The lake’s mystique is deepened by its mythological roots. It is believed to be the site where the eye ( Nain ) of Goddess Sati fell after her immolation, giving the lake its name (Naini-tal, or 'lake of the eye'). This legend solidifies the area's sanctity. Historically, the town was 'discovered' by the British in 1841 by P. Barron, who was so taken by the spot that he established a European colony here, turning it into the summer seat of the North-Western Provinces, adding a distinct colonial charm to the lakefront. The Downside While breathtaking, the lake's overwhelming popularity means the area, especially Mall Road, can get severely crowded during peak tourist season and holidays. This can detract from the intended 'peaceful' experience. Furthermore, like many heavily visited sites, concerns about cleanliness and water quality are sometimes raised, highlighting the need for stricter environmental protection and maintenance to preserve its natural beauty. In conclusion, Naini Lake is an essential destination that fully lives up to its reputation as a stunning Himalayan lake resort. Its blend of scenic beauty, engaging activities, and deep-rooted mythology makes it an unforgettable experience, provided visitors are prepared to navigate the crowds during high season.

The main attractions definitely delivered, especially getting to see the magnificent Royal Bengal Tiger and those incredibly cute Red Pandas up close. They also have an impressive array of Leopards, along with several species of Himalayan goats and sheep, like the striking Blue Sheep. While not huge, its mountain setting means sloped paths, which adds to the unique high-altitude feel, though elderly visitors might find it a bit challenging. I spent a relaxed 2-3 hours exploring everything thoroughly. A fantastic day out!

Well maintained zoo , if coming by foot be prepared for the good work out for legs. Tough for elderly people and heavy person. Very steep climb take car. Once you reach you have nice view of lake.

Zoo is located on a peak accessible only through shuttles operating infront of India hotel on mall road. There's lot of walking and steep accent there no caddy available, therefore I would suggest avoiding aged people OT people who are not comfortable with heavy cardio. Overall zoo have decent number of species and animals are quite active.

Frankly, the zoo is nice, if you like climbing hills. I found it strenuous. You have to walk uphill quite a lot to reach the tickets counter and then inside the zoo more climbing. I enjoyed watching the tigers, leopards and red pandas and some mountain goats and deers. But many of the cages were empty. Sometimes only after a steep climb to an enclosure you realise that there is nothing there. Still I liked what I saw though I was really tired with all that climbing up.

Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo, Nainital – A Unique Hillside Experience The Nainital Zoo is located on a scenic hilltop, accessible only via shuttle services operating in front of Hotel India on Mall Road. 🚐 The route is quite steep, and there’s a fair bit of walking involved — so it may not be suitable for elderly visitors or anyone uncomfortable with heavy uphill walks (no caddies or private vehicles allowed). Once you reach the top, you’ll find a well-maintained zoo with a decent variety of animals and birds — from Himalayan bears and leopards to barking deer and colorful pheasants. The enclosures are clean, and most animals appear active and healthy. 🦌🐆 The fresh mountain air and peaceful surroundings make the visit enjoyable and educational, especially for families and children. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes and carry water for the climb!

Highly recommended! 😊 What to Expect: - A variety of animals, including Bengal tigers, leopards, red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and several bird species Tips and Reviews: - Be prepared for a steep climb to reach the zoo - Wear comfortable walking shoes, as there's a lot of walking involved. - You can encounter with Langoors on the way from the cab dropping point to the ticket counter. Ticket Price - INR 150 / person Route - Cab is available from the Church area at the Mall road. Cab cost - INR 70/ person. Cafeteria: Available inside the Zoo
Travel D — Google review
The Nainital Zoo is located at a very high point. From Mall Road, you can take a cab service that charges ₹70 per person and drops you near the entry area. After that, you still have to walk quite a bit uphill to reach the ticket counter, where the ticket price is ₹150 per person. Once you enter the zoo, you first get to see some beautiful birds, followed by the Bengal tiger and many other animals. Since the zoo is situated at a high altitude, you have to keep walking uphill inside as well. If you have elderly people with you, it’s better not to take them along due to the steep climb. Apart from that, the zoo is surrounded by nature and the peaceful environment really wins your heart.

Chauli Ki Jali is a popular hiking spot and scenic overlook located high atop a cliff with a sheer drop and a historic temple, Mukteshwar. It offers picturesque views of the mountains and the Kumaon Valley. Visitors can walk along the rocky path next to the temple to reach a cluster of cliffs where they can spend time observing Himalayan eagles, trying adventure sports like zip-lining, rock-climbing, and rappelling.
This place near Mukteshwar mahadev temple ant it's an amazing place giving an awesome view but be careful with height and also you take ride of rope slide like zip line.

Breathtaking Views at Chauli ki Jali, Mukteshwar! Chauli ki Jali is one of the most stunning viewpoints in Mukteshwar. Perched on a cliffside near the Mukteshwar Temple, it offers spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges and deep valleys below. The experience of standing at the edge and watching the vast landscapes is absolutely thrilling and unforgettable. The place is also known for its mythological and historical significance, which adds to its charm. It’s a great spot for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers, and the unique rock formations make it even more fascinating. Whether you go for the mesmerizing sunrise/sunset views or just to soak in the natural beauty, Chauli ki Jali is a place you simply cannot miss while visiting Mukteshwar.

Chauli Ki Jali, located behind the Mukteshwar Temple in Uttarakhand, is one of the most beautiful and adventurous viewpoints in the region. Perched at an altitude of about 2,500 meters, it offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges and the deep valleys below. The site is famous for its naturally formed rock wall with holes (“Jali” means net or lattice), which adds a unique charm to the spot. According to local legends, Goddess Kali fought a demon here, and the marks on the rocks are believed to be from that battle. It’s also a popular destination for adventure lovers who enjoy rock climbing and rappelling. The combination of spiritual significance, natural beauty, and thrilling experiences makes Chauli Ki Jali a must-visit spot in Mukteshwar.

If you already went to places like waichin valley, Tosh, munsyari, ladakh etc. this one may not impress you. However, sunset from the cliff is impressive and now the zipline is also added (fare 500 pp). Walking distance (5 minutes) from Mukteshwar mahadev mandir.
Ashish K — Google review
This place is situated just beside the Mukteshwar Dham Temple. There is walkway just beside the entry of the temple that leads you to this place. On the entry to the walkway, you have small open shops and eateries where you can munch on Samosa, Kachori, Fruit Chat, Rajma Chawal, Dal Chawal and much more. You need to walk around 500 mts before you reach this place and once you reach there are more eateries. There are even two ziplines if you are someone who loves thrill. The place is now heavily commercialized and that's my first complain with this scenic place. Chauli ki Jhali is essentially a mountain cliff which gives you breath-taking views of Himalayas and there is no wonder this place is so popular but due to heavy commercialization the place is very dirty and too crowded. You can spend good 15-20 mins here taking back the mesmerizing views the place has to offer. Also dno't forget to click some pics on the first cliff just when you enter the area. That spot is a good one. Totally recommened and more so in off season.

Mukteshwar Dham Temple is a must-visit iconic place in Mukteshwar, located about 40 km from Nainital. The temple, with its historical significance linked to the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, sits amidst beautiful deodar forests and offers a pleasant climate throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy not only the spiritual experience of the ancient Shiva temple but also breathtaking views after a short climb.
Mukteshwar Dham is a serene and spiritually uplifting destination nestled in the hills of Uttarakhand. It is also one of the Shakti Peeth. Beyond its spiritual importance, the temple also offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys — a true visual treat. To reach the main shrine, you’ll need to climb a decent number of stairs, but the journey is worth it. During peak times, there are arrangements like scooty or bike rides available for those who prefer not to walk. On regular days, cars can comfortably reach up to the temple’s entrance. Mukteshwar Dham is a must-visit.

Peaceful and Divine Experience at Mukteshwar Dham Temple Mukteshwar Dham Temple is a must-visit spiritual spot in Mukteshwar and is considered to be one of the Shaktipeeths, which makes it even more sacred. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple has a strong spiritual aura that instantly fills you with peace and positivity. To reach the temple, you need to climb a series of stairs from the main road, and the short ascent feels refreshing amidst the natural surroundings. Once at the top, the atmosphere is serene and divine. Apart from its religious significance, the temple offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas – truly mesmerizing and soul-soothing.

A must-visit place in Mukteshwar for devotees as well as nature lovers.”

Great holy temple of Lord Shiva. Around 350 yrs old. We need to ascend some 136 steps but the temple and view from top is worth it. Chauli ki jaali too is near by to this place.

A serene temple with breathtaking views—but be prepared for a bit of a hike! Mukteshwar Dham Temple is truly a peaceful and spiritually uplifting place, perched right at the top of Mukteshwar. The view from up there is absolutely stunning—calm, serene, and perfect for some quiet reflection. The temple itself has a divine energy, and even though it can get a bit crowded, the overall experience is still incredibly soothing. That said, one thing to be aware of is the parking situation. Cops won’t allow you to drive all the way up to avoid traffic jams, so you’ll have to park about 1.5 km before the temple. From there, you have two choices: either enjoy a moderately steep uphill walk or hop on a scooter offered by local riders, which usually costs ₹50–₹100 for the ride to the top. The walk can be a bit of a challenge, especially for elderly people or those not used to walking uphill, so plan accordingly. Despite this small inconvenience, the view and the temple make it absolutely worth the effort.

If possible, AVOID going to the temple on weekends, especially during peak season. The cab-wallahs will not tell you that the cabs will be stopped about 2 kms before the temple, and then you will either have to walk all the way through a nightmarish traffic or hire a two-wheeler to cover that distance. You will end up paying 2500/- to the cab-wallah (from Kasiyalekh) and then either walk 2 kms (one way) to the temple or pay another 200/- to the two-wheeler-wallah (for one person) for riding one way. So, if you are a group of 4, you will have to shell out another 1600/- if you choose to take the two-wheeler ride for all, both ways. The locals exploit the situation, but the administration is not bothered. If you choose to go in a self driven vehicle, be prepared to get mad. If you are only 2 in a group, a better way would be to hire a two-wheeler to the temple from Kasiyalekh instead of going there in a four- wheeler. But, we were told that on weekdays the situation is not so bad. We visited this place on Saturday, 21 June 2025. I tried to find some peace, serenity, and calmness at the temple but failed miserably. The covered concrete steps to the temple are a recent construction (although it has definitely ruined the beauty of the natural surroundings of the temple). Before, it used to be a hike to the temple through the jungle around.

Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a fascinating limestone cave temple located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. Here's what makes it significant: Location: It's situated in Bhubneshwar village, about 14 kilometers away from Gangolihat, at an altitude of 1,350 meters (4,429 feet). Description: * This isn't just one cave, but rather a series of interconnected caves. * The main cave is about 160 meters long and descends 90 feet from its entrance. * Inside, you'll find stunning natural formations of stalactites and stalagmites that have, over time, taken the shapes of various Hindu deities and mythological figures. These include representations of Lord Shiva, Ganesha, Sheshnag (the divine serpent), and even what is believed to be the severed head of Ganesha. * The cave is electrically illuminated, allowing visitors to witness these intricate formations. Mythological and Historical Significance: * Ancient Mentions: Patal Bhuvaneshwar finds mention in the ancient Hindu scripture, the Skanda Purana, specifically in the Manas Khand. * Discovery: Legend has it that the cave was first discovered in the Treta Yuga by King Rituparna of the Surya dynasty. It is believed that he was guided through the cave by Sheshnag himself. * Rediscovery: In the Kali Yuga (the present epoch), the great sage Adi Shankaracharya is said to have rediscovered this cave in 1191 AD, establishing its modern pilgrimage history. * Abode of Deities: It's a strong belief that this cave is the abode of 33 crore (33 types, as "koti" in this context means type) Hindu gods and goddesses. * Connection to Char Dham: Many believe that a pilgrimage to Patal Bhuvaneshwar is as sacred as visiting the Char Dham (the four major pilgrimage sites) of Uttarakhand. * Passage of the Pandavas: Some legends suggest that the Pandavas, the heroes of the Mahabharata, meditated here during their final journey to the Himalayas. * Symbolic Entrances: The cave is said to have four entrances: Randwar (path to war), Paapdwar (door of sin), Dharamdwar (door of righteousness), and Mokshadwar (door of salvation). Currently, only Dharamdwar and Mokshadwar are open. It is believed that Paapdwar closed after the death of Ravana and Randwar closed after the Mahabharata war. * Link to Mount Kailash: There's a belief that Patal Bhuvaneshwar is connected to Mount Kailash through an underground passage. Visiting Patal Bhuvaneshwar: * The journey inside the cave involves descending about 82 steps and navigating narrow, sometimes wet passages, often with the help of iron chains for support. * The atmosphere inside is typically dimly lit and solemn, adding to the mystical experience. * Priests from the Bhandari family have been performing religious rites here since the time of Adi Shankaracharya. * The cave timings are generally from 8 am to 6 pm during summer and 9 am to 5 pm during winter, but it's always good to confirm locally. * Entry into the cave is often in batches of 20-30 people. In essence, Patal Bhuvaneshwar is more than just a cave; it's a place steeped in mythology and spirituality, offering a unique and somewhat adventurous pilgrimage experience.

A thrilling experience. After getting down from the vehicle, it's 1.5 KM walking distance through a mountain path. For 3 person, ticket charged around 290/-. But when I came to the entry of the downward stairs at this cave, I refused to enter and returned back. But later when I saw that all men, women and even 7 to 10 years kids were entering, then I entered. After climbing down 90 feet of stairs, there was uneven land with misc mythology. Main thing is to hold the chains tightly, which passes from both sides, it will save from any kind of fallen. At the time of climbing up, it's the same funda - hold the chains and move calmly, don't hurry.

Nestled in the serene surroundings of Nawabganj, just a short drive from Kanpur city, the Kanpur Zoological Park, also known as Allen Forest Zoo, is a delightful destination for families and wildlife enthusiasts alike. Established in 1971 by Sir Allen, this expansive zoo is set within a lush man-made forest that boasts vibrant vegetation and a picturesque lake.
One can see more than 100 species from majestic bengal tigers, rare white tigers, leopards, rhinos, and around 35 bird species.

** Kanpur Zoological Park ** Rating: ★★★★☆ I recently visited Kanpur Zoological Park, and overall, it was a great experience, though there are a few areas that could use improvement. The park is massive and offers a fantastic variety of animals. You can find many species, such as the Royal Bengal Tiger, Crocodile, Wolf, Rhinoceros, Himalayan Polar Bear, Leopard, and more. There are also 25-35 species of birds, including the vibrant Macau, Peacock, White Pelican, Goose, and various types of monkeys. The wildlife diversity is impressive, and the large green spaces make it a pleasant place to explore. It's a lovely spot to spend a few hours with family or friends. However, I did have an issue with the food stalls inside the zoo. While it’s understandable that prices may be a bit higher due to the location, it felt like they were taking advantage of visitors. For instance, a cold drink priced at ₹40 is being sold for ₹50, which is quite a markup. Other items were similarly overpriced, which left a bad taste after an otherwise enjoyable visit. Another area that needs attention is the cleanliness of the water storage areas, like the ponds. Some of them seemed to have stagnant water, and a little more care in maintaining these spots would improve the overall experience. Despite these minor issues, the zoo offers an amazing variety of animals and a beautiful, expansive space to enjoy nature. With some improvements to food pricing and cleanliness, this could easily be a five-star experience. Would definitely recommend visiting, but be prepared for the overcharging at the food stalls!

The Kanpur Zoological Park, famously known as the Allen Forest Zoo, is a wonderful and sprawling sanctuary that offers a refreshing escape into nature within the city limits. As one of the few zoos in India established within a natural forest, it spans over 76 hectares, providing a lush, green environment that feels more like a wildlife reserve. The zoo is managed on modern principles, featuring large, open, and moated enclosures that give the animals ample space and a more natural habitat, which is a commendable effort for animal welfare. Visitors can observe a diverse range of fauna, including the Royal Bengal Tiger, leopards, hippos, a variety of deer, and numerous species of birds and reptiles. Beyond the animal exhibits, the park is a destination in itself. It features a large, scenic lake with boating facilities, a rich botanical garden, and a popular toy train ride, making it an ideal spot for a full-day family outing. The presence of a dinosaur park and an aquarium adds to the appeal for children.

Bara Imambara is one of the most impressive historical monuments I’ve ever visited. The entire complex reflects the rich heritage of Lucknow, with stunning Mughal-style architecture and beautiful craftsmanship. The highlight is the Bhulbhulaiya (labyrinth) — an intricate maze that is both fascinating and a bit thrilling. The views from the top are excellent and give a great glimpse of the city’s old charm. The Asfi Mosque inside the complex is equally majestic. The place is well-maintained, and the guides are knowledgeable. Plan to spend at least 2–3 hours to fully explore the monument and the surrounding gardens. Overall, a wonderful experience and a must-visit for anyone coming to Lucknow.

Bara Imambara, also known as Imam Bada, is one of the most iconic monuments in Lucknow and an absolute must-visit if you’re in the city. Built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula, it’s not just a piece of history but also a stunning example of Mughal-era architecture. The highlight is the massive central hall — said to be one of the largest arched halls in the world built without any beams or iron supports. Walking into it, you can’t help but be amazed at the engineering brilliance of that time. Above the hall lies the famous *Bhool Bhulaiya* (labyrinth), a maze of corridors and passageways that’s both exciting and slightly spooky to explore. Beyond the architecture, the place carries deep cultural and religious importance. It was originally built as part of famine relief work and continues to serve as a place of worship during Muharram. The courtyards, arches, and gateways like the Rumi Darwaza nearby also make it a photographer’s delight. On the flip side, the site can get crowded, especially during weekends or festivals, and parts of the complex could use a bit more upkeep. Guides are sometimes pushy, and the summer heat can make exploration a little tiring. Still, none of this takes away from the grandeur of the monument. Tips for visitors: Best time to visit is morning or late afternoon (avoid peak heat). Wear comfortable shoes — the maze requires walking and climbing. Hiring a good guide can enhance the experience, but agree on rates in advance. Carry water and be mindful of the cultural setting. Overall Bara Imambara is more than a tourist spot — it’s a blend of history, culture, and architectural wonder. Despite minor drawbacks, it’s one of the finest heritage experiences in Lucknow and should not be missed

Bada Imambada in Lucknow is one of the city’s most iconic monuments and a true symbol of its rich heritage. The complex includes the famous Bhool Bhulaiya, the grand Asfi Mosque, and the majestic Rumi Darwaza. The intricate Mughal-era architecture, vast arched halls, and detailed craftsmanship reflect the glory of the Nawabi era. The serenity of the complex, combined with its historical charm, makes it a perfect place to explore and admire. A must-visit landmark for anyone wanting to experience the cultural soul of Lucknow.

If you are going to Lucknow, you should definitely go to Bada Imambara. Famously known as Nawabon ka Sheher, I think going to the very Iconic Bada Imambara area is a must. When you reach Bada Imambara, you can get a tuk-tuk or E-rickshaw, which take 100 rs for one ride around the entire area, including the Rumi Darwaza, Shahi Bawli, Clock Tower, Art Gallery in Chota Imambara and back to Bada Imambara where you can go inside and explore Bhool Bhulaiyan, another bouli and the amazing Nawabi architecture, which closely resembles Taj Mahal, in many aspects. You notice it instantly when you see it. The Tuktukwala or E-rickshaw driver also tells you the history of the places and attached stories of different places. And there is no time limit. All this for 100 rs, especially if you are a group of 4, is a very economical and value for money deal. Art Gallery in Chota Imambara is where you get ticket for both gallery and Imambara for Rs. 50 per person And it's the most amazing at evening after sun has set, with the lights. Just one thing to BEWARE of, do NOT buy chikken kari kurti or chikken embroidery clothing from where the E-rickshaw person takes you, you can get better deal and better stuff at other places in Lucknow. This is especially for the first timers.
Aastha M — Google review
When you are Lucknow, you will surely visit this place. This is just like Tajmahal in Agra. Nice place to visit but very crowded. Ticket price is ₹50, to cover all sites in this complex as well as Chhota Imambada. Guide will charge according to the number of people in your group. But remember, after the payment, you will be added to large heterogeneous group of visitors. You won't get personal attention. Guide will be already tired and you are least likely to enjoy.
Alok — Google review
Crazy crowds. Don't go inside the maze if you are claustrophobic or don't like crowds. The maze is nice and the view from top is good too. If you like these type of architectural places. You can just look from outside too and walk in the courtyard. Also, it will not feel any different than other similar buildings if you don't get a guide to tell you some of the facts around the building.

The Residency, Lucknow

The Residency in Lucknow is a captivating historical site that offers a glimpse into the past, particularly during the tumultuous times of the Revolt of 1857. Nestled amidst beautifully terraced lawns and gardens, this remarkable complex was originally constructed as living quarters for British officials under Nawab Saadat Ali Khan between 1780 and 1800. Overlooking the serene River Gomti, it served as a refuge for British citizens during one of India's most significant uprisings.
Having lived in Lucknow all my life, I had visited The Residency as a child but never truly explored it. Recently, I finally took the time to revisit this historic gem — and I’m so glad I did. The moment you step inside, you’re transported to a time that shaped India’s history. The ruins, still marked with bullet holes and cannon fire, silently narrate the intensity of the 1857 revolt. Each structure within the complex — from the Baillie Guard Gate and Treasury to the church ruins and underground chambers — holds a haunting charm. Walking through the wide lawns and shaded pathways, I spent time at the museum, the graveyard, and the many crumbling buildings that once formed the heart of British residency life. The view from the top of some of the structures is breathtaking, and the atmosphere is both peaceful and reflective. It’s not just a monument, it’s a memory — of resilience, history, and a city that has seen so much. If you’re in Lucknow, The Residency deserves your time and attention.

This place covers a huge area. Its very well maintained. The entry ticket is quite less-Rs. 25 for the Indians. There are ASI boards outside individual ruins to give proper information about the place. There's no guide there. Place is easily accessible by auto, cabs or nearby metro station.
S H — Google review
The complex is beautifully maintained with lush green lawns that contrast starkly with the ruins. It is a large area, so prepare for plenty of walking. Information plaques are placed at key locations like the Baillie Guard Gate, Dr. Fayrer's House (where Sir Henry Lawrence died), and the Memorial Museum. The 1857 Memorial Museum, housed within the complex, is a must-see. It contains artifacts, paintings, and maps that offer a detailed, if slightly biased toward the colonial perspective, overview of the events of the siege. What makes the site so compelling is that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has intentionally preserved it in a state of ruin. The bullet-ridden walls, the gaping holes from cannonballs, and the crumbling arches are not restored; they are left as silent, powerful witnesses to the conflict. You can clearly trace the trajectory of the cannon fire on the main Residency building, the Treasury, and the Banquet Hall. The adjacent cemetery, where thousands of British and Indian soldiers, women, and children were buried, adds a somber layer of reflection. Entrance fee for foreigners is ₹300. Morning hours are highly recommended to avoid the harsh midday sun, especially during the summer months.

Having lived in Lucknow all my life, I had visited The Residency as a child, but only recently did I truly explore it — and it turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had in the city. The moment you enter, you feel transported to another era. The bullet-marked walls, damaged structures, and remnants of cannons silently narrate the intensity of the 1857 uprising. Every part of the complex — from the Baillie Guard Gate and Treasury Building to the church ruins, museum, and underground chambers — carries a haunting yet fascinating historical charm. Walking through the wide lawns, peaceful pathways, and shaded areas, I found myself reflecting on the resilience and sacrifices that shaped India’s past. The small museum offers well-curated information, and the graveyard adds emotional depth to the experience. Climbing some of the vantage points gives you a beautiful view of the entire complex. The Residency is not just a monument — it’s a preserved memory of India’s struggle, the city’s heritage, and a chapter of history that still echoes through its walls. If you’re in Lucknow, this place absolutely deserves your time and attention.

Loved the experience of going back to the Residency after 9 years again. The place has been maintained very well and kept clean. The ASI has also illuminated the buildings in the evening. The small museum is also informative about the history of the place. One must visit when in Lucknow.

The Residency is the site of British Habitation during the colonial period in Lucknow. Later during the 1857 revolt it became one of the most active centres for revolutionary activity. Many of the buildings here are a testimony of the violence that occurred here. The site has been well maintained and has a nominal entry fee of 20rs. It is worth getting a guide while visiting here as the place would otherwise seem uninteresting.

The Residency also called as the 'British Residency' is a heritage monument preserved by the archelogical survey of India. It was built by the Nawab Asaf-ud-Duala when he shifted his Avadh Capital from Faizabad to Lucknow in the 17th Century. This project was completed during the reign of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II. It is a very big park (memorial )made by Ms Mayawati when she was CM of UP. Entry ticket is priced at ₹ 25 per person. Contrary to facilities at other gardens, even Senior citizens have to buy tickets. Very large open areas so wouldn't be advisable to visit in the heat of the day due to lack of trees and Shade. The memorial is big and tastefully designed. The architecture is good, with several elephant statues adding to its uniqueness. Highlight of the park is its meticulously designed pathways and open space. Restrooms are available.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Park: A Monument of Grandeur Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Park, formally known as Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Prateek Sthal, is an essential visit in Lucknow. Far exceeding the scope of a typical park, this expansive 107-acre monument serves as a breathtaking, solemn tribute to Dr. Ambedkar and other pivotal figures of social justice in India. The architecture is the park’s primary draw, featuring vast stretches of imported red sandstone that create an atmosphere of immense grandeur and permanence. The highlight is the towering central stupa and the Pratibimb Sthal, which features dozens of imposing marble elephant statues symbolizing strength and resilience. The complex also houses the Samajik Parivartan Sangrahalaya, a museum offering vital context on the social reform movement. While it is open and spacious during the day, the park truly transforms after sunset. The stunning illumination of the monuments casts a magical glow, making it a peaceful and visually spectacular place for an evening stroll. Remember to wear comfortable shoes—there is much walking involved to appreciate this monumental, contemplative, and historically rich landmark.

Nothing special about this place just a big structure and acres of land wasted. Good for photography. Structurally it's worth it... I mean it has been planned to present the values of Bhim Rao Ambedkar, but then this is where the praise stops. Instead of calling it a park, it should have been called as a recreation center for appreciating values of Baba Saheb. When it comes to calling it a park, there are no trees, just marble structures. Recommended to go in early morning before 10:30am or after 5:30pm Summer season it must be a heat factory. Basic entry ticket available

There is set procedure to enter the Temple. Once you reach the entrance, there is a hall on your left. This hall may be used for some relaxation or for using washroom. Then there is designated area where metal pipes are fixed to guide you in Queue. Then you simply follow instructions. The temple is still being constructed. All the arrangements are very welcoming. In mid-november there are quite reasonable crowds and entry waiting time is minimum. जय श्री राम The visiting experience is nicely managed. Lockers are available for keeping belongings, they insist that you remove money from your purse before keeping your purse ( Ladies and gents) in lockers. Keep shoes also here. Ayodhya Ram Mandir is a divine and historic place that fills every devotee with immense faith and pride. The main temple, with its magnificent architecture and beautifully carved pillars, creates a truly spiritual experience. The idol of Prabhu Shri Ram in the Garbhagriha brings peace to the heart the moment you see it. The entire temple complex is still under construction, with several facilities, mandaps, and surrounding areas being developed. Due to the ongoing work, some areas are restricted and there can be a bit of dust and temporary arrangements. But it is exciting to witness the grand vision taking shape day by day. Even with large crowds, the management is doing a good job of controlling queues and maintaining cleanliness. Night lighting makes the temple look heavenly and worth watching again and again. Overall, Ayodhya Ram Mandir is not only a sacred pilgrimage site but also a symbol of devotion and cultural heritage. Once the complete complex is ready, it will be one of the most beautiful temples in the world.

This temple is located at the birthplace of God Ram.Visited this temple on a weekday at around 13:00-13:45 hours. This temple has excellent management of crowd. There is separate entrance and exit.Enough availability of drinking water and medical facilities.Enough lockers are available for keeping belongings like bags ,footwear, cameras, mobile phones, etc. and separate areas for depositing and withdrawing articles.Initially photography of the main parts of the temple were allowed but now it is prohibited(probably due to security issues). The temple complex is magnificent with beautiful carvings of different deities such as ganesha, etc on stone walls. Till to this date of writing this review, only about 40% of the work of the temple complex has been completed. Once completed, the temple complex would be more magnificent.

The Ashoka Pillar in Sarnath is a very special and old monument in India. It was made by Emperor Ashoka more than 2,000 years ago to remember the place where Lord Buddha gave his first teaching after getting wisdom (called enlightenment). The pillar was once very tall, about 50 feet high, and made of smooth stone. But today, it is broken. You can still see the bottom part of the pillar at the Sarnath archaeological site. The top part of the pillar had a beautiful carving called the Lion Capital. It shows four lions standing back-to-back. This Lion Capital is so important that it became the National Emblem of India in 1950. That means it is now the official symbol of our country! You can even see it on Indian coins and government papers. The Lion Capital also has pictures of a bull, horse, lion, elephant, and a special wheel called the Dharma Chakra. These show different parts of Buddha’s life and his message of peace, love, and kindness. If you visit Sarnath, you can see the pillar base near the Dhamek Stupa and the Lion Capital in the Sarnath Museum, which is very close. Timings: The site is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM The museum is closed on Fridays Tickets: Indians: ₹20 Foreign visitors: ₹250 Museum may have a separate ticket

Timeless Symbol of Dharma and National Pride Visiting the Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath is like stepping into the soul of India’s ancient wisdom. This iconic monument, commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, stands as a powerful testament to peace, tolerance, and the spread of Buddhism. Though the original pillar is now preserved in fragments, the site evokes deep reverence—especially with the Lion Capital, which proudly serves as India’s national emblem. The archaeological site is beautifully maintained, with informative plaques and a serene ambience that invites reflection. The nearby museum adds depth to the experience, showcasing relics and sculptures that bring history to life. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or a proud Indian, the Ashoka Pillar is a must-visit. The Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath is a remarkable monument built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE to mark the site where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon. Crafted from a single block of polished sandstone, it showcases the exceptional artistry of the Mauryan era. The original **Lion Capital**, which once crowned the pillar, is now preserved in the Sarnath Museum and proudly serves as India’s national emblem. Though the pillar stands broken today, its presence continues to inspire awe, symbolizing peace, strength, and the enduring legacy of Buddhism.

A powerful symbol of India’s ancient history and Buddhist heritage! The Ashokan Pillar at Sarnath was originally erected by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE to mark the sacred spot where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment. Though the pillar now stands broken, its base remains at the original site beside the Dhamek Stupa, and the famous Lion Capital — India’s National Emblem — is safely preserved inside the nearby Sarnath Archaeological Museum. The polished sandstone pillar once stood over 12 meters high and carried Ashoka’s edicts promoting peace, moral conduct, and compassion. The craftsmanship and polish, even after more than 2,000 years, are remarkable. It’s humbling to imagine the full structure as it once was — a timeless reminder of India’s message of “Ahimsa” and “Dharma.” Entry: Access to the pillar site is included with the Dhamek Stupa ticket — ₹25 for Indian citizens (₹20 online via ASI portal) and ₹300 for foreign visitors. Photography is allowed inside the complex . The area is clean, quiet, and well maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Drinking water, toilets, and shaded rest areas are available near the gate. Local guides are also available for a small fee to explain the full history and significance of the site. Visiting the Ashokan Pillar at Sarnath is not just about seeing an ancient monument — it’s about connecting with a living legacy that still shapes India’s identity today. A must-visit for history lovers, Buddhists, and anyone exploring Varanasi.

The Koshi River, also called the Sapta Koshi for its seven major tributaries. This is one of the largest rivers in Nepal, originating in the Himalayas, it flows southward, cutting through the Mahabharat Range and the Churia Hills before entering the Terai plains. The Koshi is significant for its immense water volume and its role in irrigation, hydropower generation, and supporting diverse ecosystems, including the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. However, its volatile nature, particularly during monsoon seasons, has earned it the moniker "Sorrow of Bihar" in India due to frequent devastating floods.

The bridge is already 16 Years beyond it was meant for. Needs immediate reconstruction/Repairs. With rain and flash floods increasing every year, risk of bridge collapse and loss of lives is sadly on cards.

The Kosi River near Mathura is a peaceful and scenic spot that offers a refreshing break from the hustle of city life. Surrounded by natural beauty and a calm atmosphere, it's a perfect place to relax, take a quiet walk, or simply sit and enjoy the flowing water. I visited during the early morning hours, and the experience was magical – the soft sounds of the river, cool breeze, and the golden sunrise reflecting off the water created a serene setting that felt almost spiritual. It's also a nice stop for those traveling between Delhi and Agra. If you're into photography or nature, you’ll appreciate the picturesque views, especially during the monsoon when the river is fuller and the surroundings are lush and green. While it's not a major tourist destination, that’s part of its charm – it remains relatively untouched and peaceful. Just make sure to keep the place clean and respect the natural environment. Highly recommend for a short visit if you're passing through the area or exploring the Mathura region.
