This place is really awesome! I really like it! :D The one bad thing about it is that it takes very long to go..we spent about 4-5hours to get there! The train war from Shanghai itself is long, and the bus that supposing take us into Hengdian dropped us in the middle of no where! Other than that, everything is awesome! Toilet is clean, maybe becuse its the winter and there isnt any crowd! But everything else was better than expected..their 3 stars hotel is surprisingly good!

It was not until I visited The Hengdian World Studios in 2011 that I found out it was the largest stidio in the world!. Hi I'm Darryl Hetherington from Australia. I was living in Yiwu which is in Zhejiang province around 3 hours down the express way from Shanghai. A friend of mine decided we should go to visit Hengdian, and told me absolutely nothing of her plan. We were swamped by tri-cab riders at the bus station upon arrival - I was a bit shocked as I have never frequented tourist spots in China. The price was negotiated and we were taken to the studio, Some time during WW2 the town hosted Chairman Mao and his men en route to save China. The detail in which the buildings are reconstructed in the studios is amazing. I spent many many hours just admiring the heritage and detail of the ancient buildings relocated to this place. Something NOT to be missed is a model city which is HUGE and built with amazing detail. Photos are not allowed so take a small camera and don't blatantly break the rules. I will go back one day to finish my tour of Hengdian World Studios as more has been added and much upgrading has been done since. Highly Recommended

The place is nice but very busy. I enjoyed the climb — about 350 meters up to reach the temple at the top. The view and atmosphere are beautiful, but it’s quite touristic. There’s also a cable car if you prefer not to walk. It’s a bit expensive, yet still a very spiritual experience, though there were too many people for my taste.

Before coming to Hangzhou, I did a very good research about the place and everyone said that I need to see this place. I loved the architecture of the temple. The guide explained to us lots of details we needed to know. This temple has the biggest gold coated (33 kgs of gold) buddah. It was nice to see how people worship at this temple. The place can be very crowded.

The entire area is huge and you can take whole day to visit all the temples and peaks. Took a cab to the place, but you need to alight at the carpark outside and walk about 10min to the entrance. The road to the place was jammed too. The short taxi ride from Yue temple took more than 30min. There are also many interesting shop on the way to the Lingyin temple. There are also many restaurants at the main entrance. The shade and breezy wind help to make the visit more enjoyable in summer. Spent about 1-2hours only manage to visit Lingyin temple only. This temple alone is big.

A Buddhism temple of more than a thousand years old. It was tranquil and inviting. Beautiful art everywhere, and ancient trees everywhere. I enjoyed roaming around in this precious space, reading the poems carving on the walls, smelling the flowers of wintersweet trees, and admiring the ancient calligraphy. It was hard to say goodbye.

Amazing temple, in a great location. Don't miss it if you happen to be in the area. Incredible energy still present after 1500 years, highly recomended if you love buddhism, meditation and oriental philosophies. Visited in May 2016 , I would love to go back one day

Absolutely worth a visit. Bring your camera and a bottle water. Be mindful of the morals and beliefs that are still a strong virtue here (such as not stepping on the doorways (step over)). Take your time to read the information boards available to learn deep history. Only a few RMB to enter. If driving, recommend you tell security you are staying at the hotel just up the road and then walk, as opposed to walking all the way up the mountain road (my local contacts did this). In the summer time it is best to go in the morning due to heat.

I’m giving Nanxun Old Town a full five stars because I’m still thinking about how peaceful and beautiful it is. I’m walking through the stone bridges and canals and I’m feeling like time is slowing down in the best way. The town is less commercial than many other water towns, so I’m enjoying real charm, quieter streets, and friendly locals who make the place feel warm and genuine. And it's FREE admission! The waterways, old houses, and photo spots are gorgeous and I’m finding something pretty at every corner. I also love that I can wander without feeling rushed or pushed by crowds. If anyone is looking for a calm and authentic Jiangnan water town experience, this is the place to go!

The areas close to the last bridge are quite isolated and one can see houses of real people along the channel, they dry their clothes and underwear as well as fish in the river and cooked what they've caught, it's charming. I was absolutely blown away by this place. Amazing ancient architecture, plenty tea gardens, flower gardens and places you can sit and enjoy a meal. You can walk around, rent a boat or get a cable car. I love the quaint library for its souvenir ideas. It's full of stunning history. I picked up a pair of handmade shoes among other things. Theres's a little courtyard with stone water tubs where tourists and locals toss in a coin in exchange for happiness. At least this is what I was told! Of course I chucked in a few coins.

One of the Best old towns ive been to as its more Rural comapred to the Old towns in Cities such as suzhou or nanjing where its rather overun with modern stores etc. the Old Architecture is still very strong and the maintaining they have done to enhance it is amzing. Great place for photgraphers and nature garden lovers. Theres a Cable Cart towards the far end of the Park, with tour Carts available Also to take you up the hills and slopes around. Must Visit in the Jiangsu Province as a whole!

Legend says that after King Helü was buried here, a white tiger appeared and guarded his tomb for three days, giving the hill its name. This is the perfect relaxing water town to explore leisurely - beautiful, serene, retains a sense of authenticity, lively yet not overwhelmingly crowded (unlike Suzhou’s famous waterside streets which are so crowded it’s impossible to enjoy). Tongli Town is compact and extremely conducive for exploration on foot. Allocated a full day for day trip from Shanghai. Explore and soak in the atmosphere leisurely (rather than squeezing in whirlwind stop) especially for families with small kids. Took an excellent boat ride, explored a old buildings/gardens, the famous bridges and take a simple but relaxing, pleasant lunch stop at one of the canal side restaurants to sample local cuisine and chat with friendly locals. Lots of quaint coffee shops around town. Ticket buying at tourist centre was quick and hassle free (free for seniors and kids below 1.4m) - tickets for accessing buildings / gardens. 25 min boat ride recommended - clean, well maintained boats, relaxing and nice way to see the town.

On our way to Hangzhou we made a stopover and tour around Xitang Ancient Town. It was a long walk but very educational. There were a lot of local tourists and some who were having photoshoots in their traditional costumes. There were also food stalls along the way and a scenic boat ride for a fee. So many areas to take photos and sit. The place brings you back to old China. So beautiful! Toilets can be found nearby. The alleys have cobblestone path and a bit hard to walk on. We ended our walk at the South gate where we had lunch.

This place was wonderful! I spent 3 days staying in a very nice small hotel next to the water(about 30 usd a night). During the day you can walk around checking out the sights or stopping at a local coffee shop to relax. There's also restaurants and shopping you can do. At night you can also enjoy the night views or go enjoy the night life. They have several bars and night clubs if you are into that. Oh and they filmed Mission Impossible 3 here.. Cool!!

It’s FREE to enter, but you may need to book a slot online a week before via WeChat app. I’d recommend coming early to avoid the crowd and to enjoy the calmness of the space. The crowd control could be better during weekends, and the museum café was a bit underwhelming. Still, Suzhou Museum is totally worth a visit if you're in town, especially for those who enjoy culture, design, and photography. You can combine your visit with nearby Humble Administrator's Garden where both are within walking distance!

I was attracted to The Suzhou Museum, because it was designed by the celebrated Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei (a native of Suzhou). The museum is more than just a repository of historical artifacts—it is a stunning work of art that seamlessly marries modernist architectural principles with the soul of classical Chinese gardens. It is an immersive experience where i find the building itself is as captivating as the collections. What immediately strikes me is the brilliant use of the local Jiangnan vernacular: white walls, dark gray roofs, and an intimate relationship with water and rock. Pei translated these traditional elements into a contemporary language of stark white stucco and geometrical gray granite tiles. The result is pure visual poetry. Inside, the use of natural light is masterful, creating a contemplative atmosphere that highlights the exquisite collection of paintings, calligraphy, porcelain, and jade. Though the collections are wonderful—showcasing the rich history of the Wu region—it is the architecture that truly preserves the "touch of ancient China" while feeling utterly joyful, modern and fresh. During my visiting in mid-September it offered a quiet moment to appreciate this tranquillity, as I appreciate this piece of a true testament to the timeless elegance of Chinese aesthetics.

So hard to get tickets for this museum. You have to pre-book via their Mini Prog, opens 7 days prior at 8am. Tickets are snapped up in a few minutes! I tried for 19 Aug initially but didn't get it, made the mistake of not setting up my profile in advance so by the time I created my profile, the tickets are all gone. Learnt my mistake and managed to secure a ticket for 24 Aug morning. The entrance is conveniently located at Metro Line 6, Exit 2. Here, you can only enter during your ticket time slot, 11am to 12nn in my case. Got an audio guide for ¥30 (one of the last few as they have limited pieces). The main exhibit is just a small section on the 1st floor while there are other special exhibits within the building at additional cost. This is the most scenic museum I've been to in China. Truly 园林中的博物馆, very Suzhou. The exhibits however are nothing outstanding, perhaps just the 苏绣 section, a heritage, skillful, unique embroidery style founded here. The building itself is the highlight here. This is the work of the famous architect, 贝聿铭, the same man behind the glass pyramid of the Louvre Museum in Paris. The hexagonal windows throughout create such beautiful photos effortlessly. The outdoor garden area is where most gather and probably spent more time than in the museum itself. The route ends at the 太平天国忠王府. From the exit, one can walk to the Humble Administrator Garden and/or Ping Jiang Road. Overall, a good 2.5 hrs spent here. Not much in terms of artefacts but still worth a visit to see the beauty of this museum.

An absolute masterpiece and the pinnacle of Chinese classical garden design. It's vast, serene, and incredibly beautiful, with a harmonious layout of ponds, pavilions, bridges, and rockeries. It can get crowded, but its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site is well-deserved. Go early to enjoy its tranquility.

I find park and historical places more fascinating after dark so if you are into that then book a night tour from the west gate which starts around 7:30. It was slow paced and a fun experience (by fun i mean if you enjoy silence, sounds of insects after dark and warm lights) There is a short opera styled musical with a light show (8/10) The guide was friendly and spoke enough english to enquire deeply about the history and significance of the space.

This is right in the centre of the city. You can take line 6 to the stop named after the garden and the Suzhou Museum. Be careful — as you emerge from the metro, the first long queue is likely for the museum. You need to walk further down the alley and find the Ticket Office, where, to my surprise, they took cards, even foreign ones. This garden isn’t very big, and so it easily gets overcrowded during the weekends and especially during the summer holidays (even on weekdays). The garden itself loses novelty if you have seen Liu Yuan (Lingering Garden), which feels less crowded and hence more relaxed. My four star review could have been 5 had the environment been more relaxed like a Suzhou garden, and had I not seen Lingering Garden. But this is still a very fine specimen.

Suzhou has many decorated gardens. The Humble administrators is one the most beautiful ones. Best visit during the week to avoid being stuck in the crowd. There are small souvenir shops inside.

A great place to visit when in Shanghai - tourist friendly. We booked a guide to take us before heading to the airport and they took care of everything- tickets, transport and most importantly explaining to us the many special places. Rows of stalls offering snacks (many local cuisines) and souvenirs (including many antique shops and cat/dog cafes) on each side of the river banks. The boat ride (Additional fee) was great to orientate on arrival.

It was a very old town but lots to see if you enjoy cultural stuff. With the clear blue skies, you will be able to capture awesome pictures with the boat and water. A cafe is there too for you to cool down but it is quite expensive. Overall it is quite an experience 😀😀😀👍👍👍

If you do not have time to visit Suzhou or Hangzhou, here is a great place to see the ancient town built along the intricate waterways. Shops are mostly the same as what you could find in a typical Chinese ancient town selling more or less the same items, so I would instead spend more time reading up the history behind the town. This is accessible from Shanghai city using Metro line 17. However, the journey could take roughly 1.5hr. So do plan your time and take into consideration the long travel time Visited on 2 January 2025, Thursday. No tickets required, free entry.

Its very enjoyable to spend time there, walking along the waterways, taking a boat cruise or relaxing with a cup of tea. Other places to visit is the landmark Kenzi garden established in 1912. It has a main hall, a garden, and an artificial hill. Fangsheng Bridge is another attraction, best among the 36 ancient stone bridges, It was built in 1812 and supposed to be the largest stone arch bridge in Shanghai. The Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town is so beautiful that one can easily spend an entire day there, but a minimum of three hours is needed to see it.

Took the subway here from Huangpu District and it took about a little over an hour. Definitely worth the stop out here and to see Chinese cultural building rather than the modern setup they have now.
