Especially when it comes to kids they ll enjoy a lot hope it's a best place to enjoy with your loved ones Moreover for cyclists there is a small off road area where you can enjoy your ride with your MTB

Nice spot for hangout, mostly deserted during mornings and off-season. Cool scenery and seating spots available, great location for campfire trips. Government tourist guesthouse available nearby. Only disgusting factor is that they dissolve lot of dead people’s ashes and leave the pots and flower garlands lying in the beach that gives the beach a horror look and polluted too!
Abishek J — Google review
Good place for kids to play around as there are some play time for kids and camel 🐪 ride. Awesome place, we can spend max 1-2 hours. There are garbage near the beach and it’s not clean and not maintained. The road leading to the beach is good and decent. We can get fresh fish over here from 2 pm till 9pm. It safe due to police station is 100 m away but there are no life life guard in here. Pics were taken during gaja cyclone , that’s why water logging is there near kids area.

Part of the same ghat section, this place doesn't get as many visitors as its famous counterpart coutrallam. But the bathing experience is similar and more fun than at coutrallam owing to less crowd. The less crowd is due to the location of the place. This needs a entry permit (paid on arrival), and there is a one-way path to the falls from the gate (a distance of ~5KM). But it's worth the time spent in travel as you can bathe to heart's content. Downside is that there are no eateries nearby (nearest eatery is ~10KM away).

Annamalai University offers a sprawling green campus with a historic charm that makes studying here a pleasant experience. The university provides a wide range of courses, including well-known distance education programs. The faculty is generally experienced and helpful, though the quality can vary between departments. Hostels are basic but affordable, and the mess food is decent for daily needs. The library is a major highlight, with a large collection that supports serious academic work. Overall, it’s a respected university with a strong reputation, though some of its facilities could benefit from modernization.

Annamalai University in Chidambaram is one of the oldest and best state universities in India. Along with the famous Natarajar Temple, it is a pride for the people of Chidambaram. Aagaya Gangai water falls

Mentioned on

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Nestled in the stunning Kolli Hills, Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls is a breathtaking destination that promises an unforgettable adventure. This natural wonder features crystal-clear waters cascading over lush green rocks, creating a serene and enchanting atmosphere. The journey to the falls involves descending approximately 1,032 steps, which can be quite challenging but ultimately rewarding as you are greeted by the mesmerizing views and refreshing mist of the waterfall.
The water fall is very beautiful and high. There are 1200 steps one side to reach the base of the waterfall which is steep and tiring, but it’s worth it. Must visit spot when you are planning to track the amazing 70 hairpins of the Kolli hills.
Faiz A — Google review
Not a falls person but this made me one. It was majestic, spectacular and huge. We had to climb down steep steps of 1100 steps to get down there. Getting up again might be difficult. But it's worth the trip. Literally the best falls in Tamil Nadu imo.

Best waterfall in kolli hills but has 1000+ steepy stairs, requires multiple rest stops according to one's fitness level.

Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls – A Breathtaking Adventure Worth Every Effort!!! Visiting “Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls” in the “Kolli Hills” was an unforgettable experience—a perfect mix of natural beauty and an adventurous trek! The waterfall itself is absolutely mesmerising, with crystal-clear water cascading down lush green rocks, creating a serene and almost magical atmosphere. The sound of the falls, the cool mist in the air, and the surrounding dense forest make it feel like a hidden paradise. However, reaching the falls is “not for the faint-hearted!” The descent involves “around 1,200 steep steps”, and while the views along the way are stunning, the climb down (and especially back up) is quite challenging. The steps can be slippery, so wearing “good trekking shoes” is a must. There are a few resting spots along the way, but be prepared for a strenuous workout. If you’re not used to long treks, take it slow and carry enough water. Once you reach the bottom, the sight of the “powerful waterfall” makes every step worth it! The pool at the base is perfect for a refreshing dip, though the currents can be strong, so caution is needed. The untouched beauty of the place makes it feel like a secret escape from the world. Tips for future visitors: ✅ Start early to avoid the midday heat. ✅ Carry snacks, water, and a change of clothes. ✅ Wear “non-slip shoes” the steps can be treacherous. ✅ If you have knee or mobility issues, reconsider the trek. The journey back up is even harder, so pace yourself. But honestly, the sheer beauty of Aagaya Gangai makes the struggle worthwhile. It’s one of the most stunning waterfalls in Tamil Nadu, and the sense of accomplishment after completing the trek is unbeatable! “Highly recommended for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts” just be prepared for a tough but rewarding experience! 🌿💦 Would I visit again? Absolutely! (But maybe after some leg training! 😆)

Wonderful falls to enjoy and mix with nature. But bit adventures and have to walk through 1500 steps to reach. But worth it
Arun K — Google review
Kolli Hills: A Paradise for Nature Lovers If you're a nature enthusiast, Kolli Hills is a must-visit destination. Among its many attractions, the breathtaking Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls stands out. Located just a few kilometers from the city center, you can easily reach the entry point to the falls by car or bike. The Tamil Nadu Forest Department charges a nominal entry fee of ₹25 per person. From the entry, you'll need to descend about 600-900 steps to reach the waterfall. While the trek can be a bit challenging, the stunning views of nature along the way make it feel like a dream. The falls themselves are nothing short of spectacular. Towering and powerful, the cascading water resembles fine powder pouring from the top of the hill. The spray from the falls is so intense that it feels like standing in a gentle rain—an experience that will leave you mesmerized. Tips for Visitors: Wear raincoats and use waterproof mobile covers. Avoid carrying electronic gadgets unless they are well-protected from water. Aagaya Gangai is truly a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Kolli Hills. (This review is based on my personal experience.)

The walk down and up the 1200+ steps is worth for the view. It’s sad though to see the trash of plastics, clothes, etc. We seriously lack civic sense to maintain our nature.

Waterfalls
Puliancholai is a scenic village that boasts a picturesque mountain backdrop and is home to numerous teashops. It offers tourists an excellent opportunity to visit the Agayagangai falls, where they can indulge in trekking along with the stream. The water in the falls is crystal clear and provides visitors with an ideal spot for taking a refreshing bath during sunny weather. However, it can get quite chilly if you opt to take a dip at other times.
This is a one of the best trecking and swimming spot on kolli hills. There is a stream running in the mountains, you have bath in that stream. This place is good for bringing children of age 7+. The stream is kind of fast so be careful.
K.l K — Google review
Nice place to enjoy with the family and friends. Well maintained by the forest department. The public is also cooperative with them and do not throw or use the plastic for the good environment. Meals and Tiffen both Veg and Non - Veg. Is prepared by the shop owners by giving the order in advance. Need more clean in the restroom area. Take care of old age and children while bathing because the water flow area is not even with more irregular rocks. The mountain view from 500 mts. is amazing. Bus service is also available from Thuraiyur.
Salai P — Google review
It's in the forest range The way is very green and pleasant.can plan one trip.
Gowtham R — Google review
very less water... people through the waste material like flower, food box container, old dress in the water itself...
Selvi M — Google review
Leafy, breezy, and refreshingly low-key. Set at the foothills of the Kolli range, Puliyancholai is more about clear streams, boulders, and dappled shade than a single “big” waterfall. Pack a picnic, slip off your shoes, and let the cold water run over your feet—simple joys done right. On weekdays it can feel like your own private creek. Highlights: shallow natural pools for toe-dipping, plenty of tree cover, and a relaxed family vibe. Local tea/bhajji stalls add to the charm without turning it into a carnival. Heads-up: rocks get slick—good grip footwear is a must. Monkeys hover near snacks; keep food sealed. Facilities are basic (toilets/changing are minimal), and there’s usually no lifeguard—avoid deep spots and strong currents after rains. Carry back your plastic. Best time: early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. Post-monsoon gives the nicest flow without muddy water.
Dinesh P — Google review
Stream from agaya Gangai.Pure water. Rocky terrain. Take proper footwear. Prefer to go bit upstream. Water flows when the upper catchment area gets rain. 2 hours from Trichy.

Nestled just 5 kilometers from the bustling Trichy-Chennai highway, the Brahmapureeswarar Temple is a hidden gem that beautifully showcases Dravidian architecture. This ancient temple is one of the rare sanctuaries dedicated to Lord Brahma and features an impressive collection of twelve Shiva Lingams, each with its own unique charm. Visitors can enjoy a serene atmosphere as they worship in spacious surroundings, often finding themselves in peaceful solitude.
I bowed my head not just in prayer, but in wonder— that here, even destiny can be rewritten... As Lord Brahma had got his rewritten and can now bless his devotees. The cool stone beneath my feet, the calm waters of Brahma Theertham, and the gaze of the ancient lingam— all spoke a truth I could feel, not explain. Deeyas are lit here with prayers in your mind and heart. This temple is not just a place, but a prayer turned to stone, a promise that divine grace waits quietly for those who seek.
Rajni D — Google review
One of the two brahma temples in India. A must visit in Trichy. The historical significance makes this temple a place one should never miss when they are on a pilgrimage. There is a beautiful outdoor spaces surrounding the temple that lets you relax and meditate.
Rahul R — Google review
A nice and peaceful temple located out of the way in Tirupattur in Trichy. Unlike the more commercial temples, this one wasn't crowded. This is actually a Shiva temple with a special shrine dedicated to Brahma. Legend has it that after Shiva cursed Brahma that he wouldn't be worshipped, Brahma did severe penance at the location of this temple. Shiva pleased, allowed Brahma to have a shrine here. So Brahma apparently changed his destiny, which is what many of the devotees here aim to do. Various types of poojas are done here and there is a big board outside the temple listing how many deepams to be lit depending on what desire needs to be fulfilled, including 'blessing for the birth of a son' :) There are many monkeys in the area so be careful with any eatables. There are 12 shiva lingams in a garden next to the temple. These are situated near a tank called the Brahma Theertam. We visited in the evening, there were many bats inside the shrines containing the lingams. Please be careful if you want to step inside. There is also a statue of sage Patanjali in the temple.
Vijayshri T — Google review
The only temple where there is a separate shrine for Brahma. If course within the brahamapurreswarar temple. Brahma is cursed without any shrine or devotees because her lied having seen the head of Shiva. Well maintained temple but cleanliness needs a lot to be improved. Variety of deepams and coconut breaking rituals are well explained.

Brahmapureeswarar Temple in Thiruppattur is one of the most divine, peaceful, and spiritually powerful temples in Tamil Nadu. The temple is famous for its rare and sacred Brahma shrine, where Lord Brahma is believed to have had his destiny rewritten by Lord Shiva. Because of this, devotees visit the temple to pray for life progress, fate correction, education, career growth, and new beginnings. What Makes This Temple Special Main Deity: Lord Brahmapureeswarar (Lord Shiva) in the form of a Swayambu Lingam, which adds enormous sanctity to the temple. Goddess: Devi Brahma Sampath Gowri (or Brahmanayaki), who blesses devotees with prosperity, peace, and wellbeing. Lord Brahma Shrine: A unique highlight is the six-foot-tall idol of Lord Brahma, seated in a meditative posture and adorned fully in turmeric. This is one of the very few temples in India with a dedicated separate shrine for Lord Brahma. Temple Experience The temple ambience is extremely peaceful and calming. The premises are clean, well-maintained, and spacious. Even though it is a popular temple, darshan is usually smooth and comfortable. The architecture and historical significance make it truly a divine place to visit. Location & Timings Location: Situated in Thiruppattur village, around 30–35 km from Trichy, just off the Trichy–Chennai highway. Timings: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
VENKATESH P — Google review
The temple is very beautiful and chill. No wait up needed as we visited during the day time. They have free parking facilities. It is walkable around the temple.
Ashikha G — Google review
Presiding deity Lord Brahmapureeswarar is suyambu here and is seen slightly slanted. HIS consort Goddess Brahmasampath Gauri is housed separately in standing posture facing east. Lord Brahma worshipped 12 Lingams here including moolavar - devotees can see some near Brahma theertham and some in the prakaaram as well. A separate sannidhi for Lord Brahma, a big one with 3 heads is in the prakaaram. It is believed that Pathaanjali Muni attained JS here as well (one among 10 places). Temple renovation work is going on. A MUST visit temple. DOV Nov 2025

Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, located in Srirangam city of Trichy, Tamil Nadu, is a grand and ornate temple complex that dates back over 1,000 years. It consists of seven enclosures and is one of India's most renowned temples.
Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, Srirangam – A Majestic Spiritual Abode Visiting Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, is like stepping into a living tapestry of devotion, history, and architecture. Dedicated to Lord Ranganatha (a reclining form of Lord Vishnu), this temple is one of the largest functioning Hindu temple complexes in the world and a key center for Vaishnavite worship. The temple is immense and awe-inspiring. Its towering gopurams (gateway towers), especially the 13-tiered Rajagopuram, are adorned with intricate carvings depicting mythological stories and divine beings. The sheer scale of the temple, with its seven concentric prakarams (enclosures), gives a sense of grandeur that is both humbling and enchanting. Inside, the sanctum sanctorum houses the magnificent deity of Lord Ranganatha in a reclining pose on the serpent Adishesha. The spiritual atmosphere here is heightened by the rhythmic chants of Vedic hymns, the ringing of bells, and the devotion of thousands of pilgrims. The temple also has several smaller shrines, halls, and mandapams, each showcasing exquisite Dravidian architecture. Visiting Srirangam is not just about admiring architecture; it’s a deeply spiritual experience. Pilgrims and tourists alike can witness traditional rituals, festivals like Vaikunta Ekadasi, and the daily aarti, which make the visit immersive and memorable. Tips for Visitors: Best Time to Visit: Early morning or during festival days to witness special ceremonies. Dress Code: Modest attire is recommended; men should wear dhoti or trousers, women should cover shoulders and legs. Plan Your Visit: Allocate at least 3–4 hours to explore the entire complex. Visiting the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam was a truly divine and unforgettable experience. Located in Tiruchirapalli, this temple stands as one of the most beautiful and spiritually powerful places in India. Dedicated to Lord Ranganatha, a reclining form of Lord Vishnu, the temple is not just a place of worship but a living example of South Indian art, architecture, and devotion. The temple complex is massive and feels like a city in itself, surrounded by seven walls and twenty-one magnificent towers (gopurams). The main Rajagopuram, which is the tallest in Asia, is an architectural wonder — beautifully carved and painted, visible from a long distance. Walking through its ancient stone corridors, you can sense the centuries of faith and devotion that have filled this place. The atmosphere inside is peaceful yet vibrant. The chants, the smell of incense, and the sight of the beautifully decorated deity create an aura of positivity and calmness. The priests and temple staff are polite and helpful, and the arrangements are well-organized despite the large number of devotees. What touched me most was the feeling of serenity and connection I felt during darshan. It’s a place where faith feels alive. The temple also holds immense cultural importance, especially during Vaikunta Ekadasi, when thousands of devotees gather in divine celebration. Overall, Srirangam Temple is not just a religious site but a journey into heritage, devotion, and peace. A must-visit for anyone coming to Tamil Nadu — it truly deserves all five stars.

The temple is massive—spread across several prakarams—and you can feel the depth of history and devotion in every corner. It is one of the largest functioning temples in India, and walking through its corridors itself feels like a spiritual journey. The architecture is stunning, with beautifully carved pillars, gopurams that reflect centuries of craftsmanship, and a serene atmosphere that instantly calms the mind. The temple is extremely well maintained despite its size, and the management has done a great job in preserving its cultural heritage. Darshan of Lord Ranganatha was a powerful and peaceful moment. Even with the crowd, everything was organized well, and the volunteers were helpful in guiding the devotees. Overall, this is not just a place of worship—it’s a living heritage site that showcases Tamil culture, Vaishnavism, and magnificent architecture. A must-visit experience for anyone traveling to Tamil Nadu or looking to explore the spiritual and historical richness of India.

Peaceful and spiritual experience at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. I visited the temple yesterday on the full moon day. It was quite crowded, with special prayers going on, but the atmosphere was very peaceful and filled with devotion. Despite the crowd, everything was well managed, and it felt nice to see so many people gathered in faith. The annadhanam was well organized and served with care — simple, tasty, and offered with genuine warmth. Overall, it was a good spiritual experience and a reminder of the calm that such places bring. #SriRanganathaswamyTemple #Srirangam #Trichy #Annadhanam #FullMoonDay #TempleVisit #TamilNaduTemples #SpiritualExperience

Such a worthy visit. Best temple to visit if you love ancient architecture. Best time to visit will be early in the morning and early in the evening before the temple closes, to avoid crowd. I was not able to get a Darshan because of the long que, even though it was disappointing, the exploration into the architecture made me compensate.

Sree Ranganatha Temple in Trichy is an unforgettable spiritual experience. The temple complex is vast, beautifully preserved, and filled with history, devotion, and cultural richness. The darshan feels very serene and the priest and volunteers are humble and helpful. Even with the crowd, everything is well organized. Highly recommended for both spiritual seekers and those who appreciate heritage. 🙏❤️

Srirangam is a magnificent temple with a vast, beautifully maintained complex. The divine idol of Anantha Shayana Vishnu in the main sanctum is truly awe-inspiring. Don’t miss the Lakshmi and Garuda shrines. The temple is very clean and well-managed. You can also opt for the ₹500 official ticket for direct darshan.

Sights & Landmarks
Arulmigu Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple, also known as Thiruvanaikoil Temple, is a historic Shiva temple complex in Trichy. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features elaborate interior columns and a sprawling outer wall. The temple worships Meenakshi, another form of Goddess Parvati, and Lord Sundareshwarar.
🛕 Jambukeshwarar Temple (Thiruvanaikaval) Also known as Thiruvanaikaval Temple, this ancient shrine is located just 2 km from the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, on the same Srirangam island. 🌿 Main Deities Lord Jambukeshwarar (Shiva) — worshipped here as an embodiment of the Water (Neer) element, one of the five Pancha Bhoota Lingas. Goddess Akhilandeshwari (Parvati) — consort of Lord Shiva, residing in her own separate shrine within the same complex. 🔱 Spiritual Significance It represents the "Neer (Water) Tatva" among the Pancha Bhoota Stalams (temples representing five natural elements): 1. Earth (Prithvi) – Ekambareswarar Temple (Kanchipuram) 2. Water (Appu) – Jambukeshwarar Temple (Srirangam/Thiruvanaikaval) 3. Fire (Agni) – Arunachaleswarar Temple (Tiruvannamalai) 4. Air (Vayu) – Srikalahasti Temple 5. Sky (Akasha) – Chidambaram Natarajar Temple Inside the sanctum, water constantly springs up around the Shiva Linga, symbolizing the element of water — a rare and divine feature. 🕉️ Legend (Purana) According to legend: Goddess Parvati, as Akhilandeshwari, performed severe penance here under the instruction of Lord Shiva, worshipping a Linga made of water (Appu Linga). Pleased by her devotion, Shiva appeared and taught her spiritual wisdom. The temple hence symbolizes the Guru–Shishya (Teacher–Disciple) relationship between Shiva and Parvati. 🏛️ Architecture Built in Dravidian style by the Early Cholas (around 2nd century CE), later expanded by Pandya and Nayaka kings. The temple has 5 enclosures (Prakarams) and majestic Gopurams (towers). The Akhilandeshwari shrine has exquisite decorations and the goddess’s earrings are said to be changed twice a year during special rituals. 📅 Temple Timings Morning: 5:30 AM – 12:00 PM Evening: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Timings can vary during festivals.) 🎉 Important Festivals Panguni Brahmotsavam (March–April) Aadi Pooram (Goddess Akhilandeshwari’s special day) Navaratri celebrations are grand here. Maha Shivaratri – observed with great devotion. 🧭 How to Reach Distance: 2 km from Srirangam Temple, 8 km from Trichy Junction. Easily reachable by auto-rickshaw, local bus, or taxi. Nearest Airport: Tiruchirappalli (about 12 km). 🌸 Special Highlights The Akhilandeshwari idol is said to radiate immense energy. To soften it, Sri Adi Shankaracharya installed two Sri Chakra Yantras (one in each ear) and designed her beautiful Thadanga (ear ornaments). The temple is serene, with sacred ponds and beautiful stone carvings.

This temple in Srirangam is around 2 kms from the more famous Ranganatha temple. It is dedicated to Jambukeshwarar (Shiva) and Akhilandeswari (Parvathi). Legend has it that Parvathi prayed in the Jambu forrest and created a lingam made of water from Kaveri river. This temple is one of the pancha bhoota sthalams, signifying water as its element. As one enters one of the gopurams, one gets the feeling that the temple is relatively small with an open space, pond and gardens. When one goes further inside, the massive enclosure in which the temple stands reveals itself. The precincts are beautiful, some of them with many ornate pillars. The sanctum of the temple is dedicated to Lord Jambukeshwarar and is a small space where not more than 5 people can stand at a time. It is a beautiful structure and a must visit for anyone visiting Srirangam/Trichy along with the Ranganatha temple. We did not see any designated parking around the temple and had to park on one of the lanes in the vicinity.

Divine Evening Visit to Jambukeshwara Temple We visited the Jambukeshwara Temple in the evening, and it was a serene and peaceful experience. This temple represents the Jala Lingam (water element) among the five Panchabootha Lingas, and it was our final stop to complete the sacred journey of all five. The temple’s architecture is beautiful, and the spiritual energy inside is truly calming. The approach roads are quite narrow, but there is sufficient parking space near the temple. Inside, we were delighted to see the temple elephant, which added to the traditional and sacred atmosphere. The priests were polite and helpful, and the overall experience was memorable and spiritually fulfilling — highly recommended for anyone visiting Trichy!

A simple yet beautiful Shiva shrine surrounded by an awe-inspiring enclosure of mandapams and pathways. The entrance, with the Nandi Mandapam and its four gigantic pillars, is among the most magnificent in any South Indian temple. Visit very much recommended. There is a new rule of no photography but you can carry your cames in the temple.

Visiting the Jambukeswarar Temple in Trichy was a peaceful and grounding experience. The quiet atmosphere, the sound of flowing water near the sanctum, and the ancient stone architecture made me feel connected to something timeless. I was especially moved by the story of the goddess worshipping Lord Shiva—there’s a calm, almost meditative energy there. It’s a place that stays with you. The santity left me with a sense of inner peace and awe for the depth of South Indian temple traditions. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in spirituality, history, or architecture. I found the temple to be not just a religious site, but a space where history, mythology, and spiritual energy merge.

Most peaceful place to ever to be visited. I visited the place right on the day of kaarthigai Deepam 2024 on a Friday midst the cloudy day with drizzles then and there. The whole place didn’t give a feel of I’m in one of the big cities with too many people rather just gave a serene peace and thoughtfulness with all the chanting and silence. Mobile phones aren’t allowed with respect to any modes(no calls, no photos, no videos). The staff was good but they first had a thing when I was on call entering the temple without knowing the no phone rule by later on everything where chill. Make sure you visit this place atleast once.

Credited as  first library of India, the Sarasvati Mahal Library was founded by the Nayak and Thanjavur Maratha rulers. It flourished under the patronage of Maharaja Serfoji housing 47,334 palm leaf manuscripts and texts in Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit, Marathi, and English. It’s one of the very few libraries in the country to preserve literature from the medieval period. Many of these rare palm leaf manuscripts and books have now been made accessible to the public.

It is said that this is Asias first library. The majority of the books are in Tamil, and once upon a time, it was a lovely place to read. However, nowadays, it is crowded with tourists. Despite this, there are still many Tamil books on the shelves. The vibrant colors and beautiful artwork make the space very appealing.

The Saraswati Mahal Library in Thanjavur is a true hidden gem and a treasure trove for anyone interested in history, literature, or ancient manuscripts. Nestled within the palace complex, the library offers a fascinating glimpse into the rich cultural and scholarly heritage of Tamil Nadu. The collection is absolutely impressive — centuries-old palm leaf manuscripts, rare books in multiple languages (including Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu), and beautiful ancient scripts. The small museum section gives you a peek into the literary and intellectual pursuits of the Maratha kings who once ruled here. The staff was polite and helpful, and the premises were clean and well-maintained. Photography inside is restricted, but it’s understandable given the age and rarity of the materials. I’d recommend setting aside at least an hour or two to explore at a relaxed pace. Whether you’re a researcher, a history buff, or just a curious traveler, this place is definitely worth a visit.

The Thanjavur Maratha Palace, a 16th-century fortress and royal residence, boasts towers, tunnels, an art collection, and even a whale skeleton. The palace houses a remarkable array of legacy statues from the Chola Kingdom as well as rare statues dating back to the 16th century. However, there are concerns about maintenance and preservation due to neglect and vandalism.
Walking into the Thanjavur Maratha Palace felt like stepping back in time. The palace walls whisper stories of kings and scholars. Some parts are grand and well-preserved, others are in ruins but still charming with their faded frescoes, stone carvings and long corridors. The Darbar Hall, with its murals and portraits, catches your eye. The Saraswati Mahal Library, with its stacks of old manuscripts and books, gives a quiet, soulful vibe. The towers and observation points give you a bird’s eye view of the inner courtyards. You can almost imagine the royal processions, the court gatherings, the echo of footsteps in wide halls. It’s not polished like a modern museum — it has rough edges, and some decay — but that makes it feel real, alive, touched by centuries. Must-visit for lovers of history, art, and architecture.

A must-visit historical gem in Thanjavur! The Thanjavur Maratha Palace is a beautiful blend of architecture, history, and culture. The palace complex houses impressive courtyards, grand halls, a library with ancient palm-leaf manuscripts, and a museum showcasing Maratha-era artifacts. The art and sculptures here are truly captivating. The view from the watchtower is worth the climb — you get a panoramic view of the city and the iconic Brihadeeswarar Temple in the distance. The place is well-maintained, though some parts could use a little more restoration. History lovers and architecture enthusiasts will especially enjoy this spot. Definitely recommend spending 1–2 hours exploring the palace and soaking in the royal legacy of the Marathas in Tamil Nadu.

A walk through Thanjavur’s royal past 👑 The Thanjavur Palace is not just a monument. Walking through its old halls, tall arches, and long corridors, you can almost imagine how grand life must have been centuries ago. There’s a lot to see here — the art gallery with its ancient Chola and Nayak paintings, the museum displaying beautiful bronze idols and royal artifacts, and the Saraswathi Mahal Library, which is truly special. Even if you’re not a history buff, just stepping into that library feels humbling — knowing some of those palm-leaf manuscripts are hundreds of years old. The tall Bell Tower (Watch Tower) offers a nice panoramic view of the palace complex, and the Durbar Hall with its intricate pillars and faded yet elegant murals really stands out. Some areas are a bit worn down, but that only adds to the charm — it feels real, lived-in, and honest. It’s a place that quietly reminds you of how rich and layered our history is. If you’re visiting Thanjavur, take your time here — not just to see, but to feel the place. 🏷️ Tags: #ThanjavurPalace #Thanjavur #TamilNaduHeritage #SaraswathiMahalLibrary #DurbarHall #IndianHistory #CholaNayakArchitecture #CulturalHeritage #IncredibleIndia #TravelTamilNadu

The Brihadeeswara Temple is a grand temple complex devoted to Lord Shiva, constructed during the Chola dynasty. The complex comprises a 64-meter tower and an interior adorned with frescoes. The temple's honey-hued granite dominates the morning sunlight while capturing a vivid palette of reds, oranges, yellows, and pinks in the evening.
One of the most awe-inspiring temples I’ve ever visited. The scale, the detail, the feeling of walking through centuries … The towering vimana (temple tower) is majestic, and the carvings on the walls and pillars tell stories in stone. Even in the heat, the cool interiors and the shades make it a comfortable walk. The Nandi statue is carved from a single rock, huge and elegant. The temple is well maintained, with good pathways, signage, and security. A must-visit for anyone coming to Tamil Nadu history, spirituality and architecture all together.

I recently visited the famous Brihadeeswarar Temple (Big Temple) in Thanjavur, and it was a truly memorable experience. The temple, built over 1,000 years ago by Raja Raja Chola I, is an outstanding example of ancient Tamil architecture and craftsmanship. The massive Nandi statue at the entrance immediately caught my attention — carved from a single stone, it is one of the largest and most beautifully detailed Nandis in India. The main temple tower (vimana) is also breathtaking, rising high with intricate carvings that tell stories from history and mythology. What impressed me most was seeing people from different religions and backgrounds visiting the temple. Everyone came to admire its beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and historical importance. It truly shows how art and culture can bring people together. The temple looks especially beautiful in the evening when the lighting enhances the details of the sculptures and the stone glows warmly. The place feels calm and spiritual, making it perfect for both devotees and those who simply want to experience its cultural richness. Overall, the Big Temple in Thanjavur is not just a place of worship — it’s a living symbol of unity, history, and architectural brilliance. A must-visit for anyone traveling to Tamil Nadu!

A magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site and a true architectural marvel of the Chola dynasty! The Brihadeeswarar Temple, also known as the Big Temple, was built by Raja Raja Chola I in the 11th century (around 1010 AD). The massive granite structure, towering Vimana (temple tower), and the majestic Nandi statue are awe-inspiring examples of Tamil architecture and craftsmanship that have stood the test of time for over a thousand years. The temple complex is very well maintained and exudes divine energy and historical grandeur. 🕕 Best time to visit: Visit around sunrise (6:00 AM – 7:00 AM) or sunset (5:30 PM – 6:30 PM) for the most serene atmosphere and beautiful lighting on the temple’s golden stone — perfect for photography and peaceful darshan. A must-visit monument that beautifully blends spirituality, art, and history!

My visit to Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur was an experience I’ll never forget. The moment I saw the towering vimana from a distance, I was completely awestruck. Standing in front of this thousand-year-old marvel, it’s hard not to feel amazed at what people achieved so many centuries ago without any modern technology. The temple is massive yet perfectly balanced, and every single carving tells a story from our history and faith. As I walked through the courtyard, I could feel the spiritual energy in the air. The stone floor, warm under the sun, seemed to carry centuries of prayers and footsteps. Despite the crowd, there was a calmness that made me want to stay longer. The Nandi statue, carved from a single stone, is unbelievably beautiful, and the details on the walls are so intricate that you can spend hours just admiring them. The temple is also very well maintained, with clean surroundings and helpful guides who share the fascinating history of Raja Raja Chola and the temple’s construction. Visiting at sunset made the place look even more divine — the golden light on the stones was simply magical. Brihadeeswara Temple isn’t just a monument; it’s a living piece of history and devotion. A must-visit for everyone who loves art, culture, and peace.

One of the most majestic and peaceful temples I’ve ever visited! The Brihadeeshwara Temple truly lives up to its name - grand, serene, and full of history. The Chola architecture is breathtaking, with intricate carvings and an atmosphere that feels timeless. I visited in the afternoon and stayed till evening. During the afternoon, the whole temple complex felt calm and soothing - I even took a short nap under the shade in the temple for a few hours and it was so relaxing. Later in the evening, when the temple lights came on, the entire structure glowed beautifully against the twilight sky. It was truly magical - the perfect blend of spirituality and artistry. A must-visit if you’re in or around Thanjavur. Make sure to stay till evening to see the temple illuminated - it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Thank you to the temple authorities for maintaining it so beautifully. 🙏 You can also plan to go to nearby temples along with Thanjavur like Srirangam, Chidambaram, Dindigul, Kumbakonam, Palani.

A fantastic and beautiful temple located on a tiny hill. You need to take stairs to see the beautiful views, peacocks and monkeys. You can also reach by bike or car. Don't miss to visit the santhana kotta kugai. Very nice and calm place for doing prayers. You need to bend and go inside the cave to reach the final point. Pin drop Silence should be maintained here. Many peacocks will be sitting in the pathway which is nice to watch.

Whenever we went to the Viralimalai temple, it was wonderful. The temple is on top of the hill. There are steps to climb the hill, and also a road to go up by vehicle.

Viralimalai Murugan Temple is a peaceful and scenic spot situated on a small hill. There’s car parking available right on the hill, which makes the visit convenient. The temple can be reached easily with around 50 steps to climb — not too tiring and suitable for all age groups. The view from the top is beautiful and gives a calm, spiritual feeling. The place is generally not crowded, both on weekdays and weekends, so you can have a relaxed darshan. However, cleanliness around the temple premises could be improved for a better experience. Overall, a nice and serene temple to visit.

Nice Small Fort. Family friendly area. 50 to 75 steps but manageable . Avoid heat timings or use an umbrella. Left side a siva linga available. Careful while on the ladder. Totally worthy of you having extra time while going through nearby area.

The Fort Structure is large and has a towering granite walls with cannon(artillery gun). Rock cut Temple, Impressive sculptures. Lord shivalinga is also there inside it hard to climb so avoid that. Well maintained fort by TN govt. Ticket: 25 for Adult. Wear Sensible Footwear: The site involves climbing, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Visit in the Morning: Exploring in the morning offers a quieter experience. Limited Facilities: Some reviews mention a lack of amenities, so plan accordingly.

The fort will not be an apt word for this. Seems like a watch tower to me. It has a Siva temple which I saw. But in google it says there is a Vishnu temple and a darbar too in it which I couldn't identify. No guide , no signages . Archeological India should ensure all these exist. The entry by paying in office is 25/person, payment online it's 20/ person. Why this disparities is not clear. Should display and promote local items sale .

Nestled atop a picturesque hill and enveloped by lush forests, the Arulmigu Solaimalai Murugan Temple in Pazhamudircholai stands as one of the six revered abodes dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu deity of war. This sacred site is accessible via a winding road that may not always be fully paved, offering visitors options to either trek 3 kilometers or take government buses or private vehicles.
Recently visited the Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple. Wonderful experience. Mesmerizing idol of Lord Murugan. Surprisingly people weren't understanding when we asked the direction to Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple. It's popularly known as Solaimalai Murugan Temple. The temple is located about 25 kilometres north of Madurai, atop a hill covered with dense forests. One of the six important abodes of the deity Murugan located in Tamil Nadu, it is close to the Alagar Perumal Temple. Around 3 kms from Alagar Kovil, there's a small ghat road to the top of hill. The road is excellent. Govt free bus service is available but one needs to wait in long queues. Many people come by walking. Roadside parking available on top of the hill. Temple will be open from morning 6am to evening 6 pm. No break in between. Darshan usually takes 1-2 hrs during weekends. There's Rs. 100 quick darshan service available which takes around 30 mins.

Pazhamudhircholai, one of Lord Murugan’s Arupadai Veedu, is where Avvai Patti received wisdom from Murugan himself — about hot and cold fruits! I visited on a Sunday around 5:30 pm, there was quite a crowd, so I took the ₹100 darshan ticket. If you wait for about 30 minutes, the rush settles down and you can have a peaceful darshan. The picture gallery is lovely they even give a Murugan Valli Devasenai photo with a coin, a nice keepsake for pooja, travel, or gifting to others. The temple layout is beautiful: Vinayagar shrine comes first, Murugan with Valli and Devasenai in the center, and the Vel shrine at the end. Set on a hill, the place is cool and serene though the monkeys are plenty and a bit aggressive thanks to frequent feeding. So, guard your food and belongings! A visit here is a true delight, especially to see the ancient Kadugal and soak in the divine calm of the hills.

A Divine Experience at Arulmigu Solaimalai Murugan Temple! Visiting this temple nestled in the lush hills of Pazhamudircholai was truly a spiritual and serene experience. As one of the Arupadai Veedu (six abodes of Lord Murugan), this temple holds deep religious significance and offers a peaceful escape from the busy world below. The drive up the hill was scenic, with dense greenery and fresh air. The road is well-maintained, though a bit narrow in parts, so caution is advised. There's also a government bus service for those who prefer public transport. The temple itself is modest in structure but rich in energy. The natural surroundings amplify the spiritual vibe. It was heartwarming to see the main deity—Lord Murugan—worshipped alongside Valli and Deivanai. The temple priests were friendly and maintained a good rhythm of poojas and aarti. Don't miss the nearby Noopura Ganga, a sacred stream said to have divine origins. The entire area feels untouched and blessed. Tips: Footwear must be removed at the base before heading up the steps. Morning and evening visits are best to avoid the heat. Carry water and be respectful of the natural surroundings. Highly recommend this temple not just for devotees, but also for nature lovers and peace seekers.

If you plan to visit, I recommend going during Sashti Pooja time — you might even get to witness some amazing Bharatanatyam and cultural performances 💃✨

Small temple from the Aarupadai lot and open at all times. Vehicle parking is available on the road sides. Slightly ghat section and people will be walking all along to climb up/down. A beautiful and peaceful temple. Please plan to visit and take blessings of Lord Ganesha to move forward. There is a strict ban on use of mobile phone inside the temple premises. So please take care of that and also a strict dres code is followed. The temple has a lot of rich history and importance. There is no ticket and limited security to control the movement of crowd so there can be chaos. The parking space is ample and it is paid parking. The temple is well connected by state bus and you can get taxi from nearby places like Madurai or Karaikudi

It is about 36 km from Madurai and in close proximity to the National Highway leading to Rameshwaram from Madurai. This unique church of the sacred heart of Jesus was built in 1894 AD by a French missionary Fr. Ferdinand Celle SJ. This is a replica of the Rheims Cathedral in FranceIdaikattur Church is an architectural marvel. It is distinctive with its French style of Gothic architecture and its high vaulted roof supported by columns with cantilevers. The windows are adorned with small brick pillars with hollow flower bricks and stained glass which illustrate the events of the way of the cross vividly and skillfully. And since the church is located in an area where the climate is tropical, the hollow bricks have been artfully used reduce the heat. The gothic arches are festooned with rows of beads, flowers, garlands which are fabricated from terracotta. The main altar of the church is its most alluring feature. Its gothic façade which is of around 45 feet is consisted of God holding his son Jesus by his hand and Holy Spirit along with angels surrounding him. The altar here depicts the Christian doctrine – Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. The church also showcase exquisite stucco work, figures of saints, angels, St. Joseph, mother of sorrows and many others. Amazing examples of French art work can also be seen here. There are around 153 depictions of angels in this church.

Visited the 3000 year old historic shiva temple. It offers a peaceful and calm environment for devotees. You can feel peace and spiritual uplift when you step inside the temple. The crowds on festival days can be large and there's not much lodging options as it is located in a small town. One of the best thing about this temple is 6 foot tall natarajar idol. The arudra dharishanam festival is a major festival because of the reveal of emerald natarajar idol. no waiting in queue if you go there on normal days. One of the must visit shiva temple in the world.

I recently visited Uthirakosamangai mangalanathar temple , and it was a truly peaceful and divine experience. The temple is well-maintained, with clean surroundings and a calm atmosphere that makes you feel instantly connected to spirituality. The architecture is beautiful, with intricate carvings and a serene sanctum that adds to the spiritual vibe. Don't miss mangala Vinayagar praharam & mangala theertham. Feet it ❤️

A nice divine temple with a serene atmosphere.. The temple's history goes back 3000 years. Other than the main shrines of the Temple, there are other shrines like Maragatha natarajar, manikavasagar shrine etc which are also main attractions Since recently the Kumbabhishekam ceremony was performed, the temple looks pretty awesome with new paint work..
Harish C — Google review
The history believed to span over 3,000 years, this ancient shrine is one of the oldest Saivite temples in South India and holds immense religious, architectural, and cultural significance. Steeped in mythology, the temple is said to be where Lord Shiva shared the secrets of the Vedas with Goddess Parvati—hence the name “Uthirakosamangai,” meaning "the place of the whispered secret." Another significant legend ties the temple to Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, who is believed to have married Mandodari here, implying the temple's sacredness dates back to pre-Ramayana times. Revered saints such as Manickavasagar and Arunagirinathar have sung its praises, securing the temple’s place in Tamil devotional literature. The temple's crowning jewel is its 6-foot tall emerald idol of Lord Nataraja, believed to be carved from a single piece of maragatham (emerald). This rare idol is covered in sandalwood paste year-round and is revealed only once during the grand Arudra Darshan festival in December–January, drawing thousands of devotees from across the region. The presence of a Sahasralingam—one large lingam embedded with a thousand miniature ones—adds to the spiritual mystique and uniqueness of the temple. Architecturally, the temple is a marvel. The structure features intricately carved pillars, towering gopurams, and majestic yali sculptures at the entrance, with stone balls that rotate in the mouths of the mythical creatures an impressive testament to the ingenuity of ancient Tamil artisans. Each element reflects a perfect blend of devotion and craftsmanship. Festivals are celebrated with grandeur and fervor. Arudra Darshan is the most anticipated, followed by Tirukalyana Vaibhavam in April–May, which marks the celestial wedding of Shiva and Parvati. Other important festivals include Maha Shivaratri, Annabishekam, and Vasanthotsavam. Daily rituals and six poojas are performed with devotion, maintaining the temple's traditional rhythm and spiritual energy. However, despite its sanctity and magnificence, a concerning issue shadows the temple experience preferential treatment given to select individuals who offer bribes or donations in exchange for faster access or special privileges. In a place where every pilgrim should be treated equally before the divine, some temple staff reportedly solicit or accept money in return for prioritizing “VIP” visitors. This leaves ordinary devotees many of whom travel from far, wait patiently in lines, and come with sincere devotion feeling marginalized and rushed through their darshan. Such practices raise serious concerns about fairness and the spiritual atmosphere of the temple. In a sacred space that represents divine equality, any form of discrimination or monetary favoritism is not only inappropriate but also undermines the entire purpose of pilgrimage. Temples should be places where all are welcomed with the same reverence, regardless of status or wealth. To preserve the sanctity of Uthirakosamangai, stronger efforts must be made to ensure that all devotees receive equal treatment. Measures like queue systems, clear signage, structured complaint channels, and dedicated volunteers could help improve the experience. Above all, addressing unethical behavior among temple staff is vital to restoring trust and respect in the temple environment. Despite these modern flaws, the Uthirakosamangai Temple continues to captivate the hearts of those who seek divine connection, artistic beauty, and cultural depth. Its legacy is profound, and its potential to inspire devotion remains untarnished if only the values of fairness and humility are upheld alongside tradition.

That positive energy when you're entering into temple... Wow... This is the first shivan temple which is constructed. And one of the oldest trees is here that is 3000 years old
Mukilan K — Google review
It is one of the most important Shiv temples of Bharat. It is believed that it is the first Shiv temple of the world. Another important aspect is the huge Nataraj vigrah which is housed in a separate sanctum. It is wonderful. It is difficult to imagine how an intricate one piece idol from Emerald would have sculpted. This idol is covered with sandal throughout the year. Only once in a year during arudra darshan festival in Nov Dec the old chandan is removed and new chandan is coated. At that time only one can see the uncoated form of Nataraj. The temple has beautiful colourful gopuram. There is quite a hustle outside temple with shops and parking space. Interiors of the temple are painted well.

A Spiritually Enriching Visit to One of the Oldest Shiva Temples – Uthirakosamangai This was our first visit to Uthirakosamangai Temple, and it was truly a spiritually fulfilling experience. We had been planning to visit this ancient temple for several months, and fortunately, a couple of days’ break gave us the perfect opportunity to finally make the trip. Also known as Mangalanatha Swamy Temple, this historic site is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu. It is believed to be one of the earliest Shiva temples in existence, rich in history, legends, and deep spiritual energy. One of the temple's main attractions is the 6-foot-tall Maragatha Nataraja idol, carved entirely out of emerald (maragatham)—a truly rare and priceless representation of Lord Shiva in his cosmic dance form. Most of the year, this sacred idol is kept covered in sandalwood paste, and it is revealed to the public only once a year during the Arudra Darshan festival. The temple is also associated with a unique and powerful lingam called the Sahasralingam—a representation of 1000 lingams in one single structure, created as a tribute to 999 sages who, according to legend, offered their lives in devotion to Lord Shiva. A Glimpse into the Temple’s Mythology According to temple lore, Lord Shiva once appeared in Ravana’s palace as a child with a small wound. When Ravana tried to pick up the child, a fireball emerged from the temple pond (Agni Theertham). Fearing it was Shiva's wrath, 999 sages sacrificed themselves by jumping into the fire. One sage stayed back to protect the sacred scriptures, and Shiva, pleased with his devotion, appeared as the Sahasralingam. That lone sage is believed to have been reborn as the revered saint Manikkavacakar, who also has a special lingam dedicated to him within the temple. The temple’s name, Uthirakosamangai, signifies the place where Lord Shiva shared sacred knowledge with Goddess Parvati, making it an important center for both devotion and divine wisdom. Our Experience We visited the temple in the evening, and since the temple had recently undergone Kumbhabhishekam (consecration ceremony), it was quite crowded with devotees from nearby towns and villages. Despite the crowd, the experience was serene and well-organized. We could still see the Yaga Kundams (ritual fire altars) used during the ceremony, which added to the divine atmosphere. A highlight of our visit was seeing the ancient 3000-year-old Jujube (Elanthai) tree, which is believed to hold spiritual significance. This temple is also said to grant moksha (spiritual liberation) to 1000 Shiva devotees, further reinforcing its importance in Hindu belief and worship. Final Thoughts This temple is not just a place of worship—it’s a treasure trove of history, mythology, and divine presence. The architecture, the legends, and the spiritual ambiance make it a must-visit for Shiva devotees and anyone interested in ancient temples of India. If you're in or around Ramanathapuram, or planning a trip to southern Tamil Nadu, I highly recommend visiting Uthirakosamangai. Do try to go early or during non-peak hours if possible, especially after major temple festivals, to enjoy a more peaceful darshan. Om Namah Shivaya 🙏🏼

Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple is a significant pilgrimage site in Hinduism, attracting thousands of devotees year-round. According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, it is believed that Lord Rama prayed to Lord Shiva at this temple after his victory in Lanka. The temple's grand structure features long corridors and intricately carved pillars, including a towering 38-meter Gopuram.
The temple’s architecture is beautiful, with its long corridors and intricate pillars. The 22 well bath is something special: at each well, the attendants pour water over you from buckets, and each well is said to have a different taste and feel. The process is well-organized, though be prepared to get completely drenched, so dress accordingly. Whether you visit for faith, culture, or history, this temple is a must-see in Rameshwaram.A truly spiritual and unique experience. Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, is a sacred Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. As one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples, it holds immense spiritual significance and draws thousands of devotees every day.

My recent visit to the Ramanathaswamy Temple was an absolute bliss. The sacred 22 Theerthams offered such a deeply spiritual and purifying experience every step felt divine. I was fortunate to view Jal Abhishekam, which added to the sense of peace and connection I felt within the temple. Thanks to my friend, who is a local and also serves as a temple guide, I was able to experience a beautiful and seamless VIP-level darshan. Overall, it was one of the most soul-stirring and serene spiritual experiences I’ve ever had. A must-visit for anyone seeking divine energy and inner calm.

Ramanathan Swamy temple is one of the most oldests and beautifully architectured Jyotirlinga. It is situated at the southernmost part of india, connected with another gorgeous place that one couldnot afford to miss i.e. The Dhanushkodi. Lots of Hotels are available in the 1.5km radius of the Temple. One should directly come to the temple area from Rameshwaram Junction. General darshan is free but sometimes ask patience. If you could afford 100rs for Special darshan your time will be saved and you can see the other places around. If you coming for more than 2 days then you have well enough time to enjoy the bhakti of people in general darshan. Take extra set of clothes while going for bath in the 22 kunds. You can change the clothes in the changing rooms available or in wrost at any of the corner where everyone is changing. Then come to the darshan line in your white shiny dhoti to blend well with the vibe and atmosphere. According to me 02 days are required to enjoy the Rameshwaram temple (darshan+ shopping) and all the 12 nearby places including Dhanushkodi. This place is overall package, a deadly combination of Spirituality, historicalness and senic beauty of Southern India. Har Har Mahadev 🙏.

A deeply spiritual and historic place Rameshwaram Temple is truly special. The architecture is stunning, especially the long corridors with beautifully carved pillars. The energy inside is peaceful and grounding—you can really feel the spiritual significance of the place. The rituals are well-organized, and the temple staff are helpful. It’s not just a religious site but also a cultural landmark with deep history. The 22 holy wells inside the temple are unique, and taking the sacred bath felt like a cleansing experience. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Rameshwaram. Go early in the morning for a quieter experience. It's a jyotirling and one of the Dham

The temple is truly beautiful and our experience was peaceful and spiritually uplifting. The temple has four gates, and the main entry for darshan is through the East Gate. Don’t miss the Mani Darshan that happens between 5–6 AM, it’s absolutely divine. It’s best to stay close to the temple since there are plenty of accommodation options nearby. Visiting during winter is ideal, as the weather is pleasant and not too humid.

It's one of the jyotirlinga and also one of the dham . It's a magical place . Prefer to enter from the north side gate , so that you can do snan (bath) from all 22 kund . There is also changing place . So that you can do darshan after the snan . Bcoz they won't allow for darshan in wet clothes. Take mobile at your own risk . The inside of temple is just magical and it's architecture is just awesome.

🔱 Darshan of Lord Ramanathaswamy The inner sanctum is dimly lit, glowing with the warm radiance of oil lamps. The scent of ghee, vibhuti, and burning camphor mixes into a sacred fragrance. At the center lies the holy Shiva Lingam, installed by Lord Rama himself. The priest performs the aarti— the flame reflects off the lingam, the conch blows, and the entire sanctum vibrates with energy. In that moment, you feel the presence of something beyond words— calm, powerful, ancient, and compassionate. Many say this darshan feels like standing in the heart of silence itself. 💧 The 22 Theertham Journey Your experience begins with the sacred 22 theertham baths inside the temple corridors. Each well has its own unique temperature, taste, and legend. Priests gently pour the water over your head as chants echo faintly in the air. With every theertham, your body feels lighter, your mind calmer. By the time you finish the ritual, you feel almost reborn—as if the dust of many years has washed away.

A divine and architectural marvel! Ramanathaswamy Temple is truly one of the most sacred and beautiful temples in India. The temple’s long corridors, intricate pillars, and ancient Dravidian architecture are simply breathtaking. The spiritual atmosphere here is unmatched — you can really feel a deep sense of peace and devotion. The 22 holy wells inside the temple are unique — taking a bath in each is said to cleanse the soul. The management and priests are helpful, though the temple can get quite crowded during peak hours and festival times, so an early morning visit is best.

House of Kalam (APJ Abdul Kalam House / Museum

Specialty Museums
House of Kalam, also known as APJ Abdul Kalam House or Museum, is a small museum located in the childhood home of India's former president. Situated in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, this conch-shaped island is a popular tourist destination known for its pilgrimage sites, natural beauty, and Hindu temples. The museum showcases photos and memorabilia related to Dr.
At first glance, it looks like an ordinary house, lost in the narrow lanes of Rameshwaram… but the moment you step closer, something changes. A strange calm takes over — as if time itself slows down. Because this is not just any house… this is the House of Kalam — the humble home of our nation’s Missile Man, Bharat Ratna, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam — India’s best scientist, and one of its most beloved Presidents. This very home once stood as a small hut. These same narrow lanes still whisper the story of a boy who rose from selling newspapers to becoming the guardian of India’s skies. Every brick here holds the echo of dreams that refused to die. Today, this house stands as a museum, a living memory. Though Dr. Kalam is no longer among us, his presence still fills the air — a warm, positive energy that you can feel, not just see. Inside, every inch of this museum speaks of him — his books, pens, medals, certificates, awards, handwritten notes, research papers, and even his projects. Every object silently tells you: “If nothing else remains… there is still Dr. Kalam.” The first floor holds the museum — simple, yet profound — much like the man himself. The second floor hosts an organization, perhaps an NGO, that continues his mission — carrying forward his dream for a better India. The ground floor often remains closed; maybe it’s used for parking, or maybe it’s just resting — like the roots of a tree that once held a giant. Walking through this house is not sightseeing… it’s soul-seeing. You feel the humility of a man who could have built palaces, but chose peace. His simplicity stands as a mirror to today’s so-called leaders — some who, in just five years, build empires, while Dr. Kalam built a legacy. His small house is a loud, silent slap on the faces of the corrupt — proof that greatness is not measured by wealth, but by honesty and humanity. This home is not just a building — it’s a national treasure, a living proof that true patriotism is selflessness, and true religion is humanity. May his soul always smile from the stars he once reached for… and may our nation one day officially declare this sacred place a National Heritage Site — because it already lives forever in the heart of every Indian. 🇮🇳 Rating: Beyond 5 stars — this is not a place to visit, it’s a place to feel.

🌟 Review: Abdul Kalam House, Rameswaram Visiting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s House was a truly inspiring experience. The place beautifully preserves the memories, values, and simplicity of one of India’s greatest visionaries. The exhibits reflect his journey — from humble beginnings in Rameswaram to becoming the “Missile Man” and the President of India. Every corner of the house tells a story of dedication, discipline, and dreams. It’s not just a museum, but a reminder that greatness can arise from the most modest beginnings. The collection of photographs, personal belongings, and awards adds depth to his remarkable life story. A must-visit destination for anyone who admires Dr. Kalam and believes in the power of hard work, education, and humility. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam House is a gem of simplicity and inspiration. This small, historic home, where India’s “Missile Man” was born, feels like a portal to his humble roots. Now a museum, it’s cared for by his family and filled with treasures—old photos of young Kalam, his schoolbooks, veena, and awards like Bharat Ratna. Each corner tells of a boy who dreamed big, sparking India’s space journey. The seashell shop upstairs, run by relatives, adds a cozy, coastal touch. Free to enter (donations welcome), open mornings to evenings on weekdays, it’s steps from the temple and easy to reach. The space is small, and nearby shops can feel commercial, but the authenticity shines through. It’s a quiet, moving stop that reminds you greatness starts small.

Dhanushkodi Beach is a 9-mile-long sandy island beach located between the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal, known for its strong surf. It holds great mythological significance as it is believed to be the birthplace of Ram-Setu or Adams Bridge, constructed by Lord Ram to connect India with Sri Lanka.
Dhanushkodi isn’t just a place — it feels like the edge of the world. Standing where the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean is surreal. The waves crash from both sides, the wind carries stories of Ramayana, and there’s an unspoken peace in the air.🥹🥰🕉️ The ruins of the old town remind you of how nature reclaims everything, yet the spirit of the land remains sacred. This is said to be the very spot where Lord Rama built the bridge to Lanka and when you’re there, it genuinely feels divine. The drive from Rameshwaram is stunning, with the sea on both sides of the road. It’s not just a destination, it’s an experience — quiet, powerful, and unforgettable.🥹🙌🏻😭

One of the most beautiful and unique beaches I’ve visited. The drive up to Dhanushkodi is stunning, with the sea on both sides of the road. The beach itself is clean, peaceful, and has an almost surreal feel with the ruins nearby. The water is clear, the breeze is refreshing, and it’s a perfect spot to just stand and take it all in. But sadly, people/tourists have made it dirty with plastic etc. littered everywhere.

It was an extremely windy day, with finest sand on the road and water being whipped with the surf. Memorable drive of around 10 km. Its a part of biosphere reserve and was horrified to see so many road side food stalls right at the edge of the location. I wish authorities did not allow them in the first place. You can easily spend up to 2 hours. Entry is 20 rupees and it's closed at 6 pm.

A must visit place for travellers coming to Rameshwaram. This road to this beach is quite scenic and the beach itself looks amazing. You can also jump into the water and have a quick dip here. The beach has ocean on both the sides, one side stays calm while the other side has hustling waves. The entry gate closes at 5 pm so do enter the checkpoint before 5

Dhanushkodi is calm and beautiful, with sea on both sides and a long straight road. The drive itself is the best part—clean water, strong wind, peaceful vibe. Nothing much to do, just a place to feel the atmosphere and take photos. Go early morning or after 4 pm to avoid the heat. Worth a visit for the experience.

In the meeting of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, you witness more than just water-you witness life itself. One side serene, the other wild-a silent reminder that opposites can coexist, not in conflict, but in balance. Calm and chaos, peace and power-not rivals, but reflections of the same vast soul. It is very crowded now but still a visit is worth. 🙏🙏
