Nubra Valley, located in Ladakh, is a picturesque and secluded valley known for its lush greenery amidst desert-like landscapes. Situated almost 3000m lower than Leh, it is nestled between the Karakoram Range and nourished by two rivers. The valley boasts an abundance of Sea buckthorns, Alfalfa, pink and yellow roses during summers, and wild lavenders in autumn.
Nubra Valley isn’t just a destination — it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, serene monasteries, sand dunes, and surreal landscapes, it’s one of India’s most underrated travel gems. The journey begins by flying to Leh, Ladakh (with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, or Srinagar). From Leh, Nubra is around 120 km away and accessible via Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world at 18,380 ft. The drive itself is an unforgettable adventure, offering jaw-dropping views and adrenaline-pumping routes. Key highlights include the Diskit Monastery with its towering Maitreya Buddha statue, the cold desert and camel rides at Hunder Sand Dunes, the peaceful and culturally rich village of Turtuk near the Indo-Pak border, the healing Panamik Hot Springs, and the sacred, hidden Yarab Tso Lake near Sumur. The best time to visit Nubra Valley is from May to September when the weather is clear and roads are fully accessible. During winter, heavy snow often closes the passes, making travel risky. Accommodation options range from charming homestays to luxury eco-camps spread across Diskit, Hunder, and Sumur. Local food is simple, soulful, and delicious — don’t miss the thukpa, momos, skyu, and traditional butter tea. The people are incredibly warm and welcoming. Whether you’re a biker, photographer, solo traveler, or peace-seeker, Nubra Valley touches the soul with its raw beauty and serenity. It’s not just a place you visit — it’s a place that transforms you. A must-visit if you’re exploring Ladakh and want to go beyond the ordinary.

Nice place. You will enjoy desert safari in India's highest point. Double humps camel ride, sand dunes and lovely views.
Archana M — Google review
The Nubra Valley is an amazing sand dunes desert at high altitude, surrounded by breathtaking mountains. It’s known as a high-altitude desert and is located just a few kilometers from Khardung La Pass. When you visit Nubra Valley, you must try the camel safari. The two-humped camels found there are rare and can only be seen here in Nubra Valley, Ladakh, India. And for the camel ride they usually charge around ₹500 per person I'm not sure about the current price. If you want to experience the starlit sky, you can stay at one of the camps in Nubra Valley. Talking about the route from Khardung La to Nubra Valley is absolutely beautiful. The road is straight in most parts, and along the way, you’ll come across small water crossings, stunning mountains, widely spread desert landscapes, and much more. We really enjoyed the drive the scenic roads, the weather, and the whole experience. When you're visiting Leh Ladhak you must visit Nubra Valley if possible then from bike. However, make sure to reach your destination before sunset, as there’s little to no street lighting, which can make traveling difficult after dark.

Good Place to spend a lazy afternoon. Slightly over crowded. On the bed of Sayok river a river created small dessert formed on 1929. Bactrian camel rides, archery etc events. Can be done there.

Nubra Valley: A Hidden Gem of Ladakh Nubra Valley, nestled in the northernmost part of Ladakh, is often called the “Valley of Flowers of Ladakh.” Surrounded by the majestic Karakoram and Ladakh ranges, it’s where barren mountains meet lush green oases, creating a surreal contrast that’s truly breathtaking. Situated at around 10,000 feet above sea level, the valley is accessed via the famous Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Nubra is home to the Shyok and Nubra rivers, whose waters nourish the valley, making it unexpectedly fertile. Key highlights include: • Diskit Monastery: The largest and oldest monastery in Nubra, known for its giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley. • Hunder Sand Dunes: A cold desert where you can ride the rare Bactrian (double-humped) camels, once used in ancient Silk Route trade. • Turtuk: A beautiful village with Balti culture, offering a peek into life near the Indo-Pak border. Nubra’s charm lies in its serene beauty, mix of cultures, and the feeling of being in a world untouched by time.

Unlike any other desert in India, these cold desert dunes lie at an altitude of around 10,000 feet, surrounded by towering mountains and the Shyok River. An extreme weather condition. A harsh nature will provide you a totally different experience. I visited in January when the tempareture is always below -8°c. I got minimum of -32°c. Rough terrain, snow covered land, frozen river, no greenery , ibex , snow leopard, and freezing cold are the main features here. Get ready for adventure....

Have a nice forest to explore along with a huge, high mountains view. But when i visited, whole area was washed away by flood, which ruins the road. So, most of the ways are rough with bumps. While heading to the park we can enjoy beautiful Indus river.

The barrenness of the place hits you hard. You are left wondering about the will of the first settlers and the people who presently living in the area. Closes that you can come to a Martian landscape without actually taking a ride with Elon Musk. Truly a natural wonder. Best way to see it will be to rent a bike and bike it. Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib

Sights & Landmarks
Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib is a historic Sikh temple located in the picturesque region of Ladakh, India. Situated at an altitude of 12,000 feet on the Leh-Kargil road, this gurudwara was built in 1517 to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev's visit to the area. The legend associated with this sacred place tells of a demon attempting to crush Guru Nanak Dev with a boulder while he meditated there.
Beautiful historical gurudwara sahib, in memory of Guru Nanak Dev ji. It is situated at an altitude of 12000 ft on Leh - Kargil road just 25 km from Leh, built in 1517 to commemorate the visit to this place of Guru Nanak Dev ji. A must visit place in Leh.
Kanwaljit B — Google review
Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib in Leh is a very peaceful and beautiful place to visit. It is not just for Sikhs, but people from all religions come here, and everyone feels the same calm and positivity. The moment you enter, you get a sense of peace. The place is surrounded by mountains, and the view itself is so soothing. The gurudwara is very clean and well-maintained. The people who manage it are very kind and always welcoming. They make you feel at home. The best part is the langar (free food) they serve. It’s simple but very tasty, and eating there feels really nice because it’s made with love and served with respect. There is also a story behind the gurudwara about Guru Nanak Ji and the rock (pathar), which makes the place even more special. You can actually see the rock inside, and it feels very spiritual. One thing I really liked was how everyone is treated equally here. You sit together, eat together, and pray together. The atmosphere is very positive, and it gives you a break from the busy or tiring travel schedules of Leh. If you are visiting Leh, this is a must-visit place. It’s not just about religion; it’s about peace, kindness, and humanity. I felt really calm and happy after spending time here, and I would definitely suggest others to visit too. For me, it was a very heart-touching experience.

Offer your prayers to waheguru and seek his blessings. It was amazing to see a gurudwara ar this high altitude and difficult terrain.

We visited the Gurudwara on 13th September 2025. The atmosphere was truly soothing and calming, offering a deep sense of peace the moment we entered. There was no ticket or waiting period required, which made the visit very convenient. It was not crowded, and the Langar was being served, adding to the spiritual experience. What made it even more special was seeing Army personnel humbly performing the service, which was both inspiring and heartwarming. This is undoubtedly one of the must-visit places in Leh, not just for its religious significance but also for the serenity and devotion it embodies.

As part of exploring Leh local sightseeing, we visited Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib — a beautiful and serene historical Gurudwara built in memory of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Located at an altitude of about 12,000 ft on the Leh–Kargil road, around 30 km from Leh, it is maintained with great care by the Indian Army. The place is peaceful and spiritually uplifting, and we were fortunate to enjoy an awesome lunch at the Langar. Truly a must-visit spot in Leh to experience both devotion and warmth.
Sreenadh E — Google review
A Peaceful Experience at Gurdwara Pathar Sahib Ji (Visited on 14th June 2025) During our journey to Leh from Kargil, my friends and I had the privilege of visiting Gurdwara Pathar Sahib Ji on 14th June 2025. Nestled at an elevation of 12,000 feet above sea level, this sacred place is a true embodiment of peace and spirituality. The serene and tranquil atmosphere of the gurdwara amidst the rugged mountains is an experience that touches the soul. The Gurdwara Pathar Sahib is not just a place of worship, but a significant historical site. It is believed that the divine power of Guru Nanak Ji played a crucial role in the establishment of this gurdwara. According to legend, the story goes that a massive boulder, which was thrown by a local demon to harm the Guru, miraculously turned into a soft rock upon Guru Nanak Ji’s blessings. The boulder is still preserved inside the gurdwara, and visitors can view it as a symbol of divine intervention and Guru Nanak’s unwavering spiritual strength. This story reflects the power of faith and the divine grace of Guru Nanak Ji, offering deep spiritual insight to all those who visit. Upon reaching the gurdwara, we were struck by the beautifully constructed structure against the backdrop of the majestic mountains. The peaceful sound of gurbani (holy hymns) playing in the background as we entered the premises added a sense of serenity and calm. The crisp air at such a high altitude only enhanced the sense of tranquility, as though the very essence of peace was emanating from the surroundings. During our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Matt from Chicago and Marie from Germany, who were touring India on their motorcycles. They were such jolly and warm-hearted individuals, and we immediately connected with them. It was wonderful to share stories, laugh, and bond with these two travel enthusiasts who had come from opposite corners of the world but found themselves united in this sacred place. Their positive energy and genuine kindness added to the overall warmth of the experience. The location of Gurdwara Pathar Sahib Ji, situated in the Leh region of Jammu and Kashmir, makes it an ideal stop for anyone traveling between Kargil and Leh. The scenic drive, along with the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, adds to the overall beauty of the experience. The humble and simple food offered at the langar (community kitchen) was wholesome and nourishing, further enhancing the feeling of unity and brotherhood among all visitors. It was a moment of togetherness, where we shared food with people from different parts of the world, all bound together by the spirituality of Guru Nanak Ji. Visiting Gurdwara Pathar Sahib Ji was more than just a spiritual experience—it was a reminder of the timeless lessons of love, compassion, and faith taught by Guru Nanak Ji. If you are on a trip to Leh or Kargil, this gurdwara is a must-visit destination. It offers not only spiritual solace but also a chance to witness a place where history, faith, and natural beauty come together in perfect harmony. Gurdwara Pathar Sahib Ji is a serene and spiritually enriching place. Whether you’re a devotee or a traveler, the experience of visiting this divine place, surrounded by the majestic mountains and steeped in the teachings of Guru Nanak Ji, is something that will stay with you long after you leave. Highly recommended for anyone traveling through the region!

Magnetic Hill

Magnetic Hill is a historical site in Leh Ladakh valley, known for its unique natural phenomenon where cars and water appear to move uphill against gravity. The location has gained popularity as a tourist attraction for those seeking to experience this inexplicable wonder. However, some have noted that the area's charm has been diminished due to the presence of small structures like cafeterias.
While the magic of the Magnetic Hill is an optical illusion, it has not stopped the creation of myths and lore about this phenomenon. This is more folklore than theory; the locals hold belief that a path to heaven once existed here.A common myth suggests that there is a magnetic anomaly or powerful magnetic field present at Magnetic Hill, which is responsible for the strange phenomenon. This belief is often fueled by the name "Magnetic Hill" itself, which implies a connection to magnetism. Some believe that the hill is a place of spiritual significance, where the laws of physics are suspended, and the boundary between the earthly and the supernatural is blurred. They believed that not everyone could experience this magic, only those deserving of heaven could. Some legends claim that Magnetic Hill was once home to an ancient civilization with advanced technology. According to these stories, the people of this civilization possessed knowledge of magnetic forces that allowed them to build structures and vehicles that could defy gravity. While these myths and legends add to the allure of Magnetic Hill, the scientific explanation behind the phenomenon is rooted in the principles of physics and optics. Nonetheless, these stories continue to be passed down through generations, adding to the mystique and magic of this natural wonder. It is said that there is a mysterious magnetic force emanating from the hill that pulls stationary vehicles within its range and makes them move uphill, though some contests that it is a mere optical illusion. The strange occurrence has been experienced and testified by travellers from all across the world. The Indus River flowing to the east of Magnetic Hill makes the surroundings a picture-perfect frame.Magnetic hill that is believed to defy gravity is located at a distance of 30km(s) from Leh on the Leh-Kargil Highway. Visited Magnetic Hill today — the so-called spot where your car is supposed to move uphill on its own, defying gravity. Like most people, I was curious and a bit excited to finally see this “anti-gravity” phenomenon that Leh is known for. But to be honest, it was underwhelming. We parked exactly on the marked spot, followed the instructions, and waited. Nothing. No mysterious pull, no uphill movement. Tried shifting into neutral, waited again — still nothing. Other vehicles around us seemed to have the same experience. I’d heard earlier that it was an optical illusion — that the layout of the surrounding hills creates a false sense of slope, making a downhill road appear to be uphill. And maybe once upon a time, that illusion did work. But now, with newly tarred roads, clearer surroundings, and our phone GPS showing actual elevation, the trick just doesn’t land anymore. You can actually see with the naked eye that the road slightly slopes downhill — so the mystery kind of dissolves. The location itself is scenic, no doubt. Vast open plains, dusty mountains, and the endless sky make for a great photo stop. But if you’re expecting some magnetic marvel — manage your expectations.

I don’t see the magic everyone hyped for. Its a marked place by some people. Yes once your car engine put off, it gets moved, but it’s because of slope.

Visited July 19 2025 – Day 16 in India We spent a lovely afternoon at Magnetic Hill about 30 kilometers from Leh guided by our wonderful tour guide Angmo. She brought the place to life with her deep knowledge and warm storytelling. Though we did not notice any magnetic pull ourselves the experience was delightful and our two little girls ages 5 and 7 absolutely loved it. Magnetic Hill is a curious stretch of road locally famous as a gravity hill where vehicles parked in neutral appear to drift uphill defying logic. Many visitors believe in an unseen magnetic force while others explain it as an optical illusion shaped by the landscape and obstructed horizon. Mountains rising around the road trick the eye into misjudging the slope. Despite the science the legend of a road to heaven whispered by locals adds a layer of mystic charm. Angmo encouraged us to park the vehicle in a painted box on the road and though nothing dramatic occurred we took many photos capturing wide Himalayan panoramas and our girls giggling in wonder. The barren hills framed by distant snowy peaks and the flowing Indus River nearby offered a serene almost spiritual backdrop. Magnetic Hill holds significance as one of Ladakh’s most talked about roadside attractions. It is not just about whether the physics defy gravity it is about being in a striking high altitude landscape witnessing how perception and legend intertwine. The sense of mystery even subtle lingers in your memory long after you have continued driving along the Leh to Kargil road. Angmo’s gentle guidance enthusiasm and patience with our children made it even more special. She explained the theories shared stories of local folklore answered our endless questions and helped us feel connected to the land and its history. Although we did not feel our car being pulled upward what we experienced was far richer — the beauty of remote Ladakh framed by a whimsical myth joyful children exploring nature’s quirks and a guide who cared about our comfort and curiosity. I happily give Magnetic Hill four stars. It is a place where the landscape surprises you and stories unfold. With Angmo’s help it became a memory our family will cherish — a perfect blend of scenery intrigue and heartfelt guidance.

I visited Magnetic Hills last week while on a trip to Ladakh with my dad. On our second day in Leh, we rented a bike specifically to visit this spot since so many people had recommended it. Unfortunately, the actual destination turned out to be extremely underwhelming. It’s basically just a spot marked in the middle of a busy highway where you’re expected to stop your vehicle and “see the magic” — which, as it turns out, is just an optical illusion. No one told us it only works with four-wheelers, so being on a bike, we didn’t experience anything at all. The highway was bustling with fast-moving vehicles, yet ironically, no one was actually around at the Magnetic Hill spot. There’s an ATV, Viking ride, and zip-lining area set up on one side, but all of it was shut when we visited. So, after a long ride to get there, we ended up seeing… pretty much nothing. That said, I’m still giving this place 3 stars purely because the drive was stunning. The roads are beautifully maintained, and the landscape is absolutely gorgeous — that part made it worth it. We were stopped twice for an inner line permit check (which we had already arranged online), so just a heads-up if you’re planning to head that way. One local guy we met there told us that years ago, if you placed a compass on the marked spot, it wouldn’t point in any direction — but he said that doesn’t really happen anymore. I’m not sure how much of that is true, but it kind of sums up the vibe: cool in theory, not much in practice. Overall: a lovely drive, but unless you have loads of time and just want to be somewhere quiet, I wouldn’t recommend making Magnetic Hills a priority

Magnetic hills are 30 mins away from Leh city and you can find it on the way to Indus-Zanskar ricer confluence point. The myth here is that bike or car automatically moves due to higher gravity but its only an optical illusion. However, you get amazing photos here if no one are around because its a straight road in the middle of the mountains. You can also do ATV ride nearby. It can also be a good pitstop as there are some eateries around.
Srikanth R — Google review
It's a neat and clean place and, the road is well built, the mountain background gives it a very romantic look. However the magnetic hill phenomena is a farce, the road is naturally going downhill and any stationery vehicle will start moving if brakes are not applied. Anyway because of magnetic hill propaganda it has become a nice tourist place.
Rajesh S — Google review
“Mind‑bending illusion and scenic stop on the Leh highway!” Magnetic Hill is a must‑stop on the Srinagar–Leh route, about 26 km west of Leh. You park in neutral at the marked box—and the vehicle appears to roll uphill, seemingly defying gravity. 🚗✨ It’s not mystic magnetism but a clever optical illusion caused by the layout of the surrounding terrain . Why it’s worth it A fun experience that sparks curiosity—great for all ages and surprisingly smooth to share with family Beautiful backdrop: rugged Himalayan peaks and the Indus River nearby Free and accessible all summer, with clear signage and easy parking

Confluence of Indus(right)and Zanskar(left)

River confluence
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, also known as Sangam, offers a breathtaking natural spectacle in Ladakh. The sight of the two rivers merging, with one displaying serene green waters and the other a muddy brown, is truly awe-inspiring. Surrounded by majestic mountains, this peaceful spot provides an opportunity to contemplate nature's grandeur. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or a photography lover, this destination is a must-visit in Ladakh.
Visiting the confluence of the Hindu and Zanskar, reverse was an awe-inspiring experience!!! The sight of the two rivers merging - one a serene green, the other a muddy brown-was simply breathtaking…. The contrasting colours and the sheer natural beauty of the surrounding mountains, made it a moment to remember… it’s a peaceful spot, perfect for reflecting on the grandeur of nature. Whether you are a nature lover or a photography enthusiast, this place is a must visit when in Ladakh. A truly magical experience that stays with you long after you leave…!!!

In rainy season the water isn’t blue however different flavour also is beautiful and rain added to the overall experience

Beautiful place while you are doing local tour of Leh. The colours of two rivers meeting can be seen clearly. There are river rafting facilities available as well, make sure to carry spare clothes. You can also go near the river and spend time if the weather is favourable. The water is chilling cold.
Pranay P — Google review
Beautiful to see the river where my ancestors would have have drunk water and revered the Sindhu river. It meets the river Zanskar at this point so it’s beautiful and worth spending quiet moments there.
Vipul M — Google review
The confluence of River Indus and Zanskar is an awsome view. The place is commonly known as Sangam. One can see the beautiful confluence from Top or can do down, alongside river to see the two coloured water. The water of river Zanskar is blue green whereas the water of Indus river is bit muddy. The Sangam point has one restaurant (only this was open when we visited) where one can get to eat or book for rafting trip in river Zanskar. The place however has horrible washroom facility. These are basically closed small rooms with a hole on floor. Rafting trip can be taken for 8km (₹900/-), 16 km (₹1800) and 24km. The rafting trip of 8km is suitable for families with kids, as no one gets wet and you boat in still water. The trip of 16km and 24 km are for people looking for adventure. For additional ₹200/- transportation facility till the starting point of rafting can be taken. Since if you drive to the starting point and park your vehicle there, you end up rafting at Sangam point, then you will have ro go back to take your vehicle. If you have hired a taxi, they will also charge you extra to go till starting point. Wet suit and shoes or crocs are provided for the trip of 16km and 24km. Its better to take the trip in sunny weather as the water is really cold plus the wind makes it more cold. You can also bargain a bit depending season or number of tourist.
Jijo A — Google review
A truly magical place to see. You can clearly see the 2 rivers meeting each other and eventually flowing as one. There is snacks and coffee available next to this place. Also one can go for river rafting here where they will take you rafting on the sangam point. Things to consider before going for river rafting is the temperature of the water and if there is any heavy flow to the river which will make the rafting enjoyable. A must visit place.
Pranjalee — Google review
Good tourist destination, one can witness the confluence of two rivers Indus and Zanskar. It's similar to that of Sangam in prayagraj i.e. the confluence of Ganga, Jamuna, Saraswati. It's a good place for photo sessions. One can capture various backgrounds.
Urav B — Google review
No one should miss this nature’s marvel while in Leh/Ladakh region. The views are spectacular with clear line of merging water from both the rivers. Don’t miss the top views from the scenic spot at the highway before arriving down to the confluence spot.

Likir Gompa is a serene Buddhist monastery nestled in a picturesque setting just a few kilometers from NH1. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, quaint villages, and lush poplar trees, the monastery offers a tranquil atmosphere for visitors. Adorned with colorful paintings and statues of Buddhas and rinpoches, the main temple boasts intricate motifs. One of its highlights is the impressive large golden Buddha statue.
Spectacular views of the mountains from the Gompa. Main temple is quite good. Although it is few KM inside the main road, its worth the visit. The valley looks spectacular, especially during the summer.

Beautiful Monastery, perched on a quiet hilltop!! Likir Monastery is a beautiful and serene spot. The location is excellent, offering great views of the valley. The 75-foot Maitreya Buddha statue is the centerpiece and worth the drive alone—it's incredibly majestic. We did it as a part of 1 day site seeing trip from Leh. The views from the hilltop are lovely. The monastery itself is well-maintained, though perhaps a little less grand in scale compared to some of the other major monasteries closer to Leh. It’s worth stopping by, especially if you are already traveling on the Leh-Srinagar highway route.
Vinita C — Google review
It's a beautiful village with a beautiful monastery. The backdrop of the monastery is stunning as well and has a large seated statue of Buddha. It's only 1hr from leh and the roads are pretty good leading up to the gompa. If you love a peaceful place, this is definitely one of them.
Dj P — Google review
Located in a secluded area, few kms away from the Leh Kargil highway, this place is really quiet, which is essential for the monastery activities . Had a great spiritual time here, situated at the midst of the mountains, when I went in the month of jan, not many people were there and just 2 3 monks were there. The highlight of this monastery is the huge open Buddha statue which is magnificent.
Sandipan M — Google review
Beautiful small Buddhist monastery located on the top of a hill. Two temples were opened when we visited on a Sunday after lunch- the museum was closed. The temples were well maintained and had beautiful wall paintings. Outside the monastery you can visit a gigant Eden Buddha statue.

Amazing monastery, great location and close big buddha statue.

Beautiful location.....so peaceful. Huge Buddha Statue with stunning mountains in the background. Likir is a small village and mostly people visit this place only to visit this Gompa. Do visit a nearby school also to play around with local kids :)

This monastery is located in a scenic setting just a few KMs from the NH1- surrounded by tall snow capped mountains, picturesque houses and villages, tall poplar trees, and peaceful atmosphere. The monastery itself is beautiful but is quite similar in structure and layout to the other monasteries around Ladakh. The walls of the main temple are covered with colorful paintings and beautiful motifs. There are statues of the many Buddhas and past rinpoches inside. There were very few people when we were here and the place felt calm and serene. There's a big and recent statue of Maitreya or future Buddha at the back of the temple. Make sure you circumnavigate the whole place because the views from the back are also very beautiful.

Alchi Monastery, also known as Alchi Choskhor, is a 1,000-year-old monastic complex located in Ladakh. Founded by Great Translator Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo, the complex consists of four temples housing ancient wall paintings and huge Buddha statues. The original murals and statues are considered the pinnacle of Ladakh's Indo-Tibetan art. While some temples have undergone partial renovation work, others maintain their originality with no renovations undertaken.
The most unique and ancient monastery in Ladakh.. worth visiting and not capturing.. also the souvenir shop is beautiful

The views to the Alchi monastery is panoramic. Not many Indians visit this place since it’s far from Leh town. Highly recommending this spot to witness all the villages until this place, the local culture and the history attached. One of a kind monastery build by mud and hand painted Buddha life pictures.

Alchi Monastery was built, by the great translator Guru Rinchen Zangpo between 958 and 1055. Dukhang or Vairocana Lhakhang and the Main Temple Sum Tsek have been built in Kashmiri style. The third temple called the Manjushri Temple has impressive image of Manjushri. The Alchi complex has two other important temples, the Translator's temple called the 'Lotsabha Lakhang' and a new temple called the 'Lakhang Soma'. Now protected by Archaeological survey of India, photography is prohibited inside any of the temples.

Wonderful ancient Buddhist monastery. With 4 temples open to the public when I visited, I still remember the wooden carvings and religious wall paintings. Walking through these temples was a very special spiritual experience - one of my favourite monasteries in Ladakh, would definitely recommend! Note: Toilet are available at no cost, the monastery requires to leave phones and cameras in a locker before entering.

It is an 11th century Buddhist Monestry revitalising the spiritual nervous of devotees who are in search of Moksha

Alchi monastery is well worth the visit, with multiple small temples and beautiful murals, some of the oldest in Ladakh. You reach the complex through a pretty pathway lined with hawkers selling handicrafts, and many prayer wheels. The temples are peaceful and well managed, though the damage to some of the murals is apparent - through water seepage and structural issues. Would strongly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

It’s a nice walk and is good monastery for old ppl to explore w walkable path instead of steps. Nice old structure and lovely statues. Photography isn’t allowed and lockers are provided for mobiles n belongings. Nice small shops enroute which provides an option to buy small souvenirs and lots of cafés to enjoy snacks. 100 rs ticket per person.

The special place with Buddhist culture through Thangka paintings, giant statues and temple architecture from over 1000 years ago. Outside the temples are planted with many Ladakh apricot and apple trees... so, when I stepped inside I was overwhelmed by the mysterious beauty that has been preserved for thousands of years. So, I think that, this place you should visit when traveling to Ladakh.

It's an average place to visit unless you are spiritual and follow Buddhist culture otherwise there's nothing else. It's a very small place which is allowed for tourists, from outside it looks big due to their school but that's not allowed for outsiders. Entrance is Rs 50 per person

We didn't go into the monastery but had lunch at the restaurant right at the entrance. We did some nice photographs of the monastery from a distant vantage point around the sunset. Few hundred meters above the monastery is a nice photo point overlooking the moon landscape. It seems accessible by walking from Monastery otherwise you need to take a bit of a road detour

Rangdum (Zanskar, Ladakh) Remote, raw, and overwhelmingly beautiful — Rangdum is where silence speaks the loudest. We could see Rangdum Gompa straight ahead, and it becomes visible from quite far away. But we were real hungry, so we headed just ahead to. Alpine Hut. Not much of a choice, so we ordered noodles with egg, and it sure tasted awesome. The food was steaming, and once finished we felt all fired up to continue to Panikar. The route is all gravel, but is still good, and one can drive at 60 comfortably. The best part is there is no entry fees.

The memorial features the Captain Manoj Pandey gallery, which commemorates a young officer who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military award, for leadership during the war.

Firstly, I would like to inform everyone that the Memorial is open everyday including Sunday till the 7.30pm being out time as one of the soldiers there told me. And even after trying the changes could not be made by them in Google. This is a place of worshipping the brave soldiers and reminder of the sacrifices the Indian army has been making since years and still now. Proud to be an Indian and glad to have visited the Memorial.

Shri Amarnath Cave Temple

Nature & Parks
The Shri Amarnath Cave Temple is a revered Hindu shrine located in the picturesque landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at an altitude of over 3,800 feet, reaching the temple involves a trek through stunning natural surroundings, including the confluence of the river Amaravati with Pantjarni. The cave remains sealed with snow for most of the year and is only accessible to devotees for a few months.
Visiting the sacred Amarnath Cave in 2024 was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. Nestled high in the Himalayas, this spiritual journey is not just a trek – it’s a test of devotion, endurance, and faith. The moment I laid eyes on the naturally formed Shivling made of ice, I was filled with awe and a deep sense of peace. The energy inside the cave is beyond words – it’s something you feel in your soul. Despite the challenging weather and high altitude, every step felt worth it. The stunning beauty of the snow-capped mountains, the chants of "Bam Bam Bhole," and the camaraderie among fellow yatris made it even more special. The entire Yatra was well-organized, with help and medical facilities available at regular intervals. I am grateful to the Indian Army, local volunteers, and the shrine board for their incredible efforts in making this pilgrimage smooth and safe. If you ever get the chance, don’t think twice about going. It’s not just a religious journey, it’s a spiritual awakening that stays with you forever. Har Har Mahadev 🙏 insta- itsmanishkumar24

"My Journey to Shri Amarnath Ji Cave: It was nothing short of a blessing to have reached the sacred Baba Barfani Shri Amarnath Ji Cave—a long-cherished dream that finally came true. Nestled high in the Himalayas, this holy shrine isn’t just a destination; it’s a soul-stirring experience that tests your body, will, and faith in equal measure. Starting from Baltal Domel Gate, the trek to the cave spans around 13 kilometers, and it took me 7 long, grueling hours to complete. The path, though breathtakingly beautiful, was equally unforgiving—steep climbs, rough terrain, and thinning air remind you that this yatra isn't an ordinary journey; it’s a test of endurance, devotion, and spirit. After reaching the Amarnath base camp, the final stretch awaits—480 steep steps carved into the rugged mountain, leading up to the sanctum where Baba Barfani appears in his natural ice form. The moment I stood before the holy ice Lingam, every hardship seemed to fade into the background. The atmosphere was charged with devotion and divinity—truly a moment that humbles you. A particularly moving sight was the pair of pigeons inside the cave, often spoken about in legends. Their presence felt symbolic—an age-old mystery that leaves one with a quiet sense of wonder. Yet, I must say, my journey was marred by some unfortunate circumstances—both personal and situational. Sometimes, even the holiest of experiences come with their share of difficulties. But that’s the essence of such a yatra, isn’t it? You don't just climb a mountain; you climb through your inner turmoil, doubts, and weaknesses. And when you reach the top, you're not the same person who started the journey. In spite of the hardships, I consider myself fortunate to have had darshan of Baba Barfani. For anyone undertaking this pilgrimage—go with a strong heart, deep faith, and the understanding that this path, though difficult, offers blessings beyond words.

Amarnath is a holy pilgrimage site for Hindus. It is located in Jammu and Kashmir. It is basically a cave. And it is surrounded by mountains on all sides. The mountains are covered with snow. It is possible to go here for a very short time during the summer. Because the rest of the time the entire road is covered with snow. And at that time lakhs of devotees travel there. Water seeps inside the cave of Amarnath, and that water freezes and takes the shape of a Shivalinga. And there, all people, regardless of caste and religion, travel there. And worship this Shivalinga. Various mythological histories, some common beliefs of people have drawn them here again and again. It is said that a long time ago, Bhrind Muni Sekha saw Amarnath or Shiva. Since then, the promotion of the Amarnath pilgrimage started. And since then lakhs of people have started traveling to Amarnath. According to the myth, Shiva brought Parvati to this place to teach him the lesson of immortality.

No words can truly capture the experience of the Amarnath Yatra. It’s not just a journey — it’s a calling, a pull from the divine. Only by the grace of Lord Shiva does one reach His sacred abode. Every step, every ache, every breath feels worth it the moment you lay your eyes on Baba Barfani. In that one glimpse, all pain melts away, all struggles feel small. Something inside you shifts… you begin to feel a powerful presence — not just around you, but within you. A divine energy that led you there, that carried you through, and that will stay with you forever.

After saw cave it was speechless reaction for pilgrims. Oxygen level and air pressure are very low. So, care yourself from this situation. Don't saw any type josh, just relax and go it. If you showing your josh (speed running, fast running, jumping, loudly talk, loudly smilling) then you have problem for low Oxygen or low air pressure. So, be careful about it.

It's as very beautiful as a risky place for darshan of lord Shiva. The Baltal route is very dangerous and the Pahalgam route is much more comfortable.

I completed my Amarnath yatra and got the bless of Baba Barfani Amarnath on 8 August 2024 . JAY Baba Barfani. The world famous shrine of Amarnathji is situated about 48 Kms. from Pahalgam and attracts devotees from all over India. It is located in the upper reaches of District Anantnag at an altitude of about 13,000 ft. from the sea level. Lord Shiva revealed the secrets of immortality and creation to his consort, Goddess Parvati, in this very cave. Devotees undertake the arduous journey to seek blessings and have a glimpse of the ice linga, which is said to naturally form every year. One of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimages, Amarnath is worldwide famous for the natural formation of Shiva Linga from the snow. This divine Yatra to the holy cave is opened only in the months of Shravan i.e. July and August as these are the only months when it is quite easy to access the holy cave. 🙏🙏 Jay Baba Barfani Sri Amarnath, again i came here secound time to Holy Cave and blessed with Baba Barfani on 25 July 2025 🙏🙏

A Slice of Heaven on Earth – Betaab Valley, Pahalgam Betaab Valley, also known as Hajan Valley, is truly one of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited. Nestled between the snow-capped mountains and lush pine forests, this valley is a perfect blend of natural beauty, serenity, and cinematic charm. It's no wonder it was named after the Bollywood film Betaab that was shot here. The crystal-clear Lidder River flowing through the valley adds a magical touch to the already stunning landscape. The green meadows, surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, create a picture-perfect view that feels straight out of a fairy tale. Whether you're a nature lover, photography enthusiast, or simply looking for peace, this place will not disappoint. There are plenty of open spaces for children to play, couples to relax, and families to picnic. Horse riding and traditional Kashmiri attire photoshoots add a fun and cultural vibe to the visit. Accessibility is good, and the area is well-maintained by local authorities. The fresh air, the sound of the flowing river, and the panoramic views make it an unforgettable experience. A must-visit spot if you are in or around Pahalgam!

Barwalla Waterfall is a visually striking spot located near the Summal Power Grid in Kangan. However, it's important to understand that this is not a natural waterfall—it is actually the overflow from the power grid, which can be extremely dangerous. The area has witnessed sudden surges of water, especially during peak flow or rainfall, and people have been trapped in the waterfall zone during such incidents. Despite its beauty, entering the waterfall or trying to get too close is strongly discouraged. There are no safety sirens or barriers in place, so awareness and caution are crucial. Heroism or thrill-seeking can be fatal here. The water current can intensify without warning, making it extremely unsafe. The best and safest view is from the opposite side of the waterfall, where you can enjoy the full scenery without putting yourself at risk. It’s a good spot for photography or a quiet nature break—just from a safe distance. Pros: Beautiful and peaceful surroundings Less crowded; good for photography from afar Cons: Man-made overflow, not a natural waterfall Dangerous to approach; no safety systems in place Tips: Stay on the safe side of the waterfall Do not enter the water or get too close Visit with caution and never alone Verdict: A scenic spot best enjoyed from a distance. Respect the power of the water and prioritize safety.

Thajiwas Glacier is a must-see destination in Sonamarg, Kashmir. It's a stunning snow glacier that offers breathtaking views and an unforgettable experience. However, visitors should be cautious of locals running ice scooters who may overcharge for their services. Additionally, local taxi operators may demand high prices for short distances, so it's advisable to negotiate and consider walking to fully enjoy the beauty of the area.
Sonmarg, often referred to as the "Meadow of Gold," is another must-visit destination in Kashmir. Similar to Gulmarg, this enchanting place offers snow-covered landscapes throughout the year, making it a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. A visit to the Thajiwas Glacier is a highlight of Sonmarg. To reach the glacier, you can take a pony ride, which adds a touch of adventure to the journey. Alternatively, union cabs are available to take you to various scenic points. During our visit, we opted for the pony ride to the glacier, and it was an unforgettable experience. The sight of the pristine snow and the thrill of being surrounded by such natural beauty made it truly magical. For those seeking more fun, there are sledges available, where locals will drag you up the snowy slopes for an exhilarating ride down. Additionally, skiing and other snow activities are offered, ensuring there's something for everyone. We spent a delightful half-day here, from the afternoon until late evening, enjoying the activities and the serene ambiance. Sonmarg also has plenty of food stalls where you can savor local delicacies, including the famous Kashmiri Qahwa, a warm and aromatic tea that's perfect for the chilly weather. However, it's important to note that if you're planning to buy dry fruits or saffron, it's best to purchase them from Pampore, Pahelgam known for its authenticity and quality. A practical tip: Make sure to rent snow boots, as regular shoes won't suffice in the cold and snowy conditions. This destination is perfect for families, offering a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural experiences. Our family had an amazing time here, and it's a place we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kashmir.

A must visit place. Really beautiful and quiet place for nature lovers and people who like to explore nature. There are tea and Maggie stalls near by and barista nearby. Horse rides are available, however you can also trek to this place. The glacier is about 5km from the highway and it’s an easy trek (depends if you’re active or mostly sedentary). Do visit, sit there for a moment and embrace the tranquil landscape! Note: Please do not litter. Respect nature and the locals! Make sure you carry all waste that you generate with you and dispose it properly in a dustbin! Be a responsible traveler!

Stunning. You must come here to see the scenic beauty and a divine feeling. Absolute serene and scenic. Use sledge to go till 18 points and enjoy the view. With snow around it gives a different feeling. Visiting in the mid of the March is probably the best time. Better to start early around 10 am, and enjoy the least crowded space and no waiting time for snow bike either.

Amazing place, natures beauty at its best. The mountain the snow its really beautiful even the road that you travel in order to reach the destination is lovely. The only difficult part you have to get the pony’s to reach the glacier point and sometimes people scam by charging more for tourist, better bargain and ensure you get a good rate. Overall it’s a must visit place. Pictures shows the destination and the scenery on the way

Thajiwas Glacier in Sonmarg is stunning, with snow-capped peaks and streams that make it feel magical. You can easily reach by walking, no need for snow bikes or ponies. Beware of scams as many locals push for costly rides. Walking is peaceful, safe, and lets you enjoy the natural beauty at your own pace.
Alex T — Google review
It is a very easy hike along the valley. You can easily walk upto the pony shed, which you find on Google maps. Start at around 9 or before to beat the tourist crowd. It is a very picturesque valley. Locals do not advise walking beyond the pony shed, because of the bears in the area. However it is perfectly safe upto this point, and you have a well laid path as well. There's also a village on the way, so you aren't completely alone. Pony riders will try and convince you otherwise, do not fall for it, unless you really want to ride a pony. Fall season is a perfect time to visit (late october) it is not too cold, peaks have snow on them, and there's little crowd.

Avanti Swami Temple Ruins is a fascinating site that showcases the architectural brilliance of ancient times. Though in ruins, the temple still reflects its historical and cultural significance. The intricate carvings and remnants of its grand structure offer a glimpse into the craftsmanship of a bygone era. As the name suggests, the temple is not in its original shape, with much of it now in ruins. However, the remains still hold a certain charm, making it a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts. The peaceful surroundings add to the experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the heritage and imagine its former grandeur. While it may not be a fully intact temple, Avanti Swami Temple Ruins remain a testament to Kashmir’s rich history. It’s a great place for those interested in ancient architecture, photography, or simply exploring offbeat historical sites.

Visited the Avanti Swami Temple Ruins in Awantipora, and it’s a fascinating glimpse into Kashmir’s ancient history! The 9th-century ruins, built by King Avantivarman, are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Shiva, showcasing intricate Kashmiri architecture with detailed stone carvings. The site, maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, is serene, with well-kept gardens and the Jhelum River nearby, adding to the ambiance. The ruins are smaller than expected but still impressive, especially the sculptured reliefs and the layout resembling the Martand Sun Temple. A local guide helped bring the history alive, though some guides could be more informative. It’s a great stop en route from Srinagar to Pahalgam, just 30 km from Srinagar. Entry is affordable (₹10), and the site is open 9 AM to 5 PM. Perfect for history buffs and photographers, but more signage would enhance the experience. Highly recommend a quick visit!

Avantiswami Temple, Avantipura – A Hidden Gem of Ancient Kashmir Avantiswami Temple is a truly mesmerizing historical site located in Avantipura, just off the Srinagar-Pahalgam highway. This ancient temple, built by King Avantivarman in the 9th century, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and reflects the rich architectural and cultural heritage of Kashmir. Though the temple is now in ruins, the beautifully carved stones, intricate sculptures, and the layout of the temple complex still leave you in awe. It offers a peaceful and scenic environment surrounded by greenery and the backdrop of the majestic mountains. Photography lovers and history buffs will find this place especially captivating. The temple is easy to access and not very crowded, which adds to the charm. It’s a wonderful spot for those who enjoy exploring offbeat and lesser-known heritage sites. There is also the nearby Avantiswara temple (dedicated to Lord Shiva), making Avantipura a spiritually and historically significant stop. Highly recommended for anyone traveling towards Pahalgam – it's a short visit, but a memorable one!

No entrance fee to be paid here. Quite heartbreaking looking at the ruins. The temple existed more than 1000 years back. Was located next to Jhelum river once upon a time. The Muslim invaders demolished the temple. Even natural calamities played its part. The erstwhile temple & now ruins is surrounded by gardens. Can only imagine its natural beauty when it existed. Worth visiting en route to Pahalgam

Gangbal refers to Gangabal Lake, a high-altitude alpine lake and a significant Hindu pilgrimage site located at the foothills of Mount Haramukh in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is a popular destination known for its stunning natural beauty and trekking opportunities. Key Aspects of Gangbal Lake Location and Geography: Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,570 meters (11,710 ft), the lake is about 45 km by road from Srinagar to Naranag, followed by a trek. It is fed by glaciers, precipitation, and springs, and its water outflows into the nearby Nundkol Lake and then into the Sind River. Religious Significance: Gangabal Lake is highly sacred to Kashmiri Hindus, who consider it as holy as the Ganges River and refer to it as the "Haridwar of Kashmir" or Haramukh Ganga. They traditionally immerse the ashes of their deceased ancestors in its waters to perform ancestral rites. An annual pilgrimage, the Harmukh-Gangabal Yatra, is also held here. Trekking and Tourism: The area is a paradise for trekkers and nature lovers. The most common route is a moderate-to-difficult trek from Naranag (about 13-15 km upslope), which can be done on foot or horseback. Other longer treks are available from Sonamarg and Bandipore. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, lush green meadows, and dense pine forests.

It is one of the best places I have hiked and visited. You hike all the way 20km out of which 6km are up way hiking on a mountain range and then 14km through the woods of the consecutive mountain ranges to reach a destination you will generally have your camp base. Then you go further 4.25km or so to reach two of the most exotic, serene and pure lakes in the Kashmir valley. This place is a hidden place in Kashmir and guide person or tour tour package dealer won't tell you about it cause you will have to spare at least 2 days here but believe me it is one of the places worth visiting once.

Chashme Shahi Garden, also known as "the royal spring" in Urdu, is a picturesque Mughal garden located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. Nestled amidst the stunning Zabarwan Mountain range, this three-terraced garden showcases Persian-influenced architecture and features natural spring water flowing through its landscaped terraces.
We had a very enjoyable experience at the garden, from what we could see they were generally well maintained. Although it was cloudy on the day so the views were not as good as they would normally be,it still looked beautiful in the misty weather. It being a Monday there were only a few visitors so it felt peaceful and serene.

Chashme Shahi is one of the beautiful Mughal gardens in Srinagar, famous for its natural spring. The fresh water here tastes amazing! 💧 Surrounded by greenery and Mughal-style design, it’s a peaceful and refreshing place to visit. Not too big but very charming, perfect for a short stop to enjoy nature and the cool spring water. A nice spot that adds to the charm of Srinagar’s gardens
Irfan A — Google review
The smallest of the three Mughal gardens of Srinagar, the Chasme Shahi is nestled in the Northern slopes of the Zabarwan range, up from the right bank of the Dal. The garden was constructed around an ancient spring with supposed medicinal properties, by Shah Jahan for his eldest son Dara Shikoh. The garden is laid in the 'chahar bagh' layout, beautifully terraced across the hills. The spring housed within a beautiful Mughal pavilion is the center piece, from where channels symmetrically divide the garden into parts. Pathways on either side of the channel lead one from the entrance gateway up to the pavilion. Trees of various species abound, with flowering plants arranged in beds. Tickets can be bought from near the entrance. Parking space outside the garden, is limited. *Tips: There are 3-4 stores near the entrance of the garden, selling local souvenirs, collectibles, etc. Although they are fixed price shops, their prices are very reasonable and fair (compared to similar shops lining the Dal Boulevard).

• Natural spring water flows directly from the mountain into the garden — this is the origin of its name (“Royal Spring”). People drink from this spring — locals believe the water is pure and medicinal. • Terraced Mughal design — 3 levels of garden going up the hillside. As you climb each terrace, the view gets better. • Best view of Dal Lake from the upper terrace — excellent for photography. • Peaceful atmosphere compared to other Mughal gardens. Chashme Shahi doesn’t feel chaotic — it feels like a quiet royal retreat. Best Time to Visit • Morning: 9am – 11am Fresh light, fresh water, minimal crowd. • Sunset Hour: for photography (mountains + lake glow nicely)
Amrit D — Google review
Chasme shahi garden is a charming mughal garden. It is relatively small garden which one can cover within one hour. It is located on foothills of Zabarwan mountains & offers unobstructed views of mountains. It hosts the famous chinar trees. Few benches are provided to rest and admire the view of mountains. It has flower gardens which is quite a sight in April to June. Even in off season few flowers are present. A peaceful garden & good for photoshoot. In all gardens, you can take photo with kashmiri traditional dress & price is fixed as per JK tourism department. Many people will come to ask you to shoot reels. If you are not interested, it is really disturbing as they will ask all over the time.

Cheshmashahi Mughal Garden in Srinagar may not be as grand as Shalimar Bagh or Nishat Bagh, but its high-altitude location, natural spring, and pleasant weather make it a peaceful and scenic spot worth visiting. Detailed Review The Mughal Garden Cheshmashahi is one of the smaller yet historically significant gardens built during the Mughal era in Kashmir. Compared to the larger and more ornate Shalimar Bagh or Nishat Bagh, Cheshmashahi feels simpler and less elaborate in terms of layout. However, this modesty is balanced by its serene environment and unique setting. Perched on a higher altitude, the garden provides a refreshing escape from the city. The highlight here is its natural spring, which is said to have medicinal properties. This spring flows gracefully through the terraced levels of the garden, feeding fountains and streams that add charm to the landscape. The sound of trickling water combined with the greenery gives the garden a peaceful and soothing vibe. Another delight is the pleasant weather you get to enjoy at this elevation. With the Zabarwan mountains as a backdrop, blooming flowers, and neatly maintained lawns, the garden feels like a calm retreat where you can relax, take slow walks, and enjoy nature’s beauty. In conclusion, while Cheshmashahi may appear “okayish” when compared to other Mughal gardens, its location, atmosphere, and natural beauty make it a memorable place to visit in Srinagar.

We spent a delightful evening there, soaking in the serene atmosphere and capturing countless photos in this highly photogenic spot. The beauty of the garden is beyond words—it must be seen to be fully appreciated. It’s important to note that this garden blooms in its full glory only until April 20th, before it begins to dry up. If you’re visiting Srinagar after winter and before this date, it’s an absolute must-see. Tulip Garden is not just a green space but a magical experience that leaves you in awe of nature’s artistry.

Tulip Garden opens up from late March and extends upto late April until the Tulips wave in blooms. With an entry fee of Rs 75/person, this heavenly garden, is a soothing treat to the eyes. It will take about 2-3 hrs for a full tour of the garden. There are fountains and blossoms everywhere, reverberating a happy vibe over the valley. There is a market outside the garden, which I found very pocket friendly and I took all the gift items from there itself. There is a botanical garden nearby this place.

Tulip Garden is located adjacent the Botanical Garden. The garden is planned in line with the Mughal gardens in terms of the layout of pathways with water channels, cascades and fountains. The garden opens in March when the Tulips bloom - a mesmerizing spectacle of nature to behold - in all possible colours and hues. Not only tulips, there are flowering plants of various other species as well. Beautifully manicured lawns and decorated flower beds arranged in various shapes abound. Located at foothills of the Zabarwan range, the garden is terraced in two or three levels - not as steep as the Chasme Shahi. Entry fee is Rs.75/person. Parking is about half a kilometre away... common for both the Tulip and the Botanical gardens.

Tulip Garden in Srinagar is truly a visual masterpiece and one of the most breathtaking attractions in Kashmir. Spread across the foothills of the Zabarwan Range overlooking the serene Dal Lake, this garden feels like walking into a living painting. I visited during the annual Tulip Festival, and it was nothing short of magical. Rows upon rows of tulips in every imaginable color—crimson red, sunshine yellow, lavender, pink, and even rare black tulips—stretch as far as the eye can see. The garden is immaculately maintained and beautifully laid out in terraces, each offering a unique palette of blooms. The backdrop of snow-capped mountains and the cool spring breeze make the experience even more surreal. You can easily spend hours wandering the paths, taking photos, and soaking in the natural beauty. Every corner looks like it was designed for a postcard! There are plenty of resting spots, refreshment stalls, and local handicraft counters around. The place is quite family-friendly, with clean walkways and seating areas. However, it’s best to wear comfortable shoes since the garden covers a large area and involves a fair bit of walking. The best time to visit is between late March and mid-April, when the tulips are in full bloom. The timing can vary slightly each year depending on the weather, so checking the festival dates in advance is a good idea. Early morning visits are particularly rewarding—the light is perfect for photography, and the crowds are thinner. The entry fee is reasonable, and parking facilities are adequate. The security and staff are courteous and helpful, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone. The view of Dal Lake and the distant Pir Panjal range from the upper terraces is simply unforgettable. Overall, the Tulip Garden is not just a tourist attraction—it’s an experience that captures the essence of Kashmir’s springtime charm. Whether you’re a nature lover, a photographer, or just someone looking for peace and color, this place will leave you mesmerized. Truly deserving of its title as Asia’s largest tulip garden and one of the crown jewels of Kashmir tourism. 🌷

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip garden@ Srinagar* is open from 9 am to 7 pm. the best season to visit is when it blooms; that is last weeks of March and first weeks of April (but the period veries) It has *73 varieties of tulips*! and it is the largest tulip garden in Asia spread over an area of about 74 acres;situated at the base of the *Zabarwan* range, built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces with an overview of the Dal Lake. The garden was opened in 2007 with the aim to boost floriculture and tourism in the Kashmir Valley. About *1.7 million tulip bulbs, all in multiple colours*, were brought from Keukenhof tulip gardens of Amsterdam. Besides tulips, there are 46 varieties of flowers, including hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus which were also brought from Holland. The Tulip festival is an annual Spring festival to increase tourism by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The festival showcases a variety of flowers in the garden. April 2023, the garden was visited by 365,000 tourists, including 3,000 foreign tourists.(India shining). Well it’s worth a visit if you could beat the crowd. Watching so many pretty flowers , all layered together in colourful rows is quite a sight.. the garden is well maintained with benches to rest and relax. We visited in early April. Made a good decision to reach early around 8.30-9, this helped to beat the heat and crowds.. avoid Sundays as the locals also visit on public holidays.

Dal Lake, known as the "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir," is an urban lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Surrounded by the majestic Pir Panjal mountains and lush Mughal gardens, the lake is a hub of vibrant local life and a top destination for tourist Key features: Shikara rides: A ride in one of the lake's iconic gondola-like wooden taxi boats is one of the most popular activities. Shikaras ferry people to houseboats and landmarks and serve as floating shops selling flowers, handicrafts, and vegetables. Houseboats: Staying on a traditional houseboat is a unique and sought-after experience. These elaborately carved wooden boats, many with luxurious amenities, originated during the British Raj, when foreigners were forbidden from owning land in Kashmir. Floating gardens and markets: Locally known as "Rad" in Kashmiri, floating gardens are crafted from interwoven vegetation and earth, and are used to grow crops like lotus flowers, melons, and vegetables. Early in the morning, vendors assemble in their shikaras for a floating market to sell their fresh produce. Char Chinar Island: This small, picturesque island on the lake is a famous landmark, named for the four Chinar trees planted at its corners. Mughal Gardens: Several historic Mughal-era gardens, including Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, line the eastern side of the lake. They offer stunning landscapes with terraced lawns, fountains, and flowerbeds.

Sri Shankaracharya Hill in Srinagar is the hill where Adi Shankaracharya did meditation in a cave nearly. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. Details of this can be googled. There are 240 odd steps. The last about 20 steps are about one foot high. Those who have arthritis or leg pain keep off. Instead you can do seva at the Langar at the start point. Try to reach early as possible as it gets crowded. The traffic is kind of unorganized hence gets messy. Autos are preferred mode to travel. Need to bargain hard with them. Empty your bladder before as the toilets are very unclean. It's at the highest point in Srinagar, therefore, it's under military. For an average person it will take about 20 minutes. Don't miss visiting the cave where the Shankaracharya did meditation.

I recently had the privilege of visiting the magnificent Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar, and I must say, it was an awe-inspiring experience. This ancient temple deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. Perched atop the Shankaracharya Hill, the temple holds immense importance for Hindus. It is believed to have been built around 200 BC by the revered philosopher and scholar, Adi Shankaracharya. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the most revered deities in Hinduism, and serves as a prominent pilgrimage site for devotees. The significance of the Shankaracharya Temple lies not only in its architectural splendor but also in its spiritual aura. As I climbed the stone steps leading to the temple, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of reverence and connection to the divine. The panoramic views of Srinagar and the surrounding valley only added to the sanctity of the place. Inside the temple, I was greeted by a beautiful idol of Lord Shiva, radiating an aura of tranquility and divinity. The priest shared insightful stories and teachings associated with the temple, deepening my understanding of Hindu traditions and beliefs. The architectural style of the Shankaracharya Temple reflects the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir and showcases intricate carvings and craftsmanship. It stands as a testament to the devotion and artistry of the past. For Hindus, a visit to the Shankaracharya Temple is not just a spiritual journey but a reaffirmation of their faith and connection to Lord Shiva. It is a place where devotees seek blessings, solace, and guidance. I highly recommend visiting the Shankaracharya Temple to anyone traveling to Srinagar, especially those interested in exploring Hindu spirituality and the cultural heritage of Kashmir. Overall, my experience at the Shankaracharya Temple was unforgettable. It left me with a profound sense of spirituality and a deeper appreciation for the significance of this sacred place in Hinduism. It is undoubtedly a must-visit destination in Srinagar.

An oldest temple, way back to 2000 BCE, of Srinagar where a beautiful "JYESHTESWARA" temple is situated and Dhyan sthal of Sri Adishankaracharya of 8th century. One should visit and enjoy the holy place.

This temple is situated on the Hill. You will find lot of people visiting to this place. Security is available through out and will keep the count on the vehicle going up with number of people. Might be you have to walk approximately for 400 meters since so many vehicles are there. On reaching to the temple you get the security check plus need to climb approximately 250 stairs to reach the temple but it's worth to reach and see the oldest temple and the 360 degree view of Srinagar

Holiest place atop on of the highest points in Srinagar. 250 steps of which last few a very steep, not for the aged. From 320 BCE, the oldest temple around.

The temple is situated on top of the Shankaracharya Hill, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the picturesque Dal Lake, the snow-capped peaks of the Pir Panjal range, and the entire city of Srinagar. The temple's location on the hill adds to its spiritual significance and provides a serene and tranquil atmosphere for devotees and visitors.

Originally called "Takht-e-Suleimani" based on the legend that Prophet Solomon has been here. For trekking in Srinagar, there is no better place. Accessible via a lane opposite to Burn Hall School. Beware of bears.

Nigeen Lake, nestled next to the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar, offers a serene and picturesque retreat for visitors. Surrounded by lush greenery and with a stunning mountain backdrop, this 1.7-mile-long lake is dotted with charming houseboats and inviting restaurants along its leafy shores. It provides a more secluded and intimate experience compared to Dal Lake, making it an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir.
It is appreciated for the same reasons that Dal Lake was admired decades ago—calm, quiet, and serene. There aren’t many hawkers to disturb the peace you seek. The scenery is beautiful, and you also need to bargain less compared to Dal Lake. Just look at the images to see for yourself!

Went to this place last week with my family. It is very beautiful and clean lake in Srinagar. We decided to spend some time here away from the hustle and bustle of dal lake. The experience was worth it. The lake is really clean and offers stunning views at sunrise or sunset time. One can enjoy shikara ride in peace as there are very less hawkers on boat at this place which is unlike Dal lake. At last, we stayed in Anarkali house boat in this lake which was also very nice.

Nigeen Lake is a hidden gem in Srinagar—much quieter and cleaner than Dal Lake, which makes the experience even more special. The water is so calm and clear, and the view of the surrounding mountains is simply stunning. I stayed on a houseboat for a night and woke up to the most peaceful sunrise I’ve ever seen. The locals were warm and welcoming, and there were hardly any crowds, which made it feel more personal and authentic. If you're in Srinagar and looking for a serene escape, Nigeen Lake is a must-visit.

It is one of the prettiest and cleanest lake in Srinagar. We decided to spend some time here away from the hustle and bustle of dal lake. The experience was worth it. The lake is really clean and offers stunning views at sunrise or sunset time. It’s away from the traffic area, so you can enjoy your shikara ride in peace.

Nigeen lake is the smaller lake in Srinagar, it is connected to Dal Lake but unlike Dal lake there is less crowds here and atmosphere is tranquil. Still there are good amount of house boats in this lake and some shikaras as well. You can also take a shikara ride from Nigeen lake to Dal lake as well. For those like less crowds, Nigeen lake is a better choice.
