Wonderful mosque architecture in the capital city of Central Java, Semarang. Finally got the chance to visit and perform subuh pray before going to Solo. Many jamaah visited the mosque even before Subuh Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the toilet and wudhu spot should be improved a lot. It was really uncomfortable see rubbish everywhere. The floor was slippery so it can be dangerous for people to walk here to have wudhu There was no cleaning officer there, plus the visitor has no awareness to keep the place clean It was very disappointing

The mosque is breathtaking. The architecture is also beautiful. It has its own style. Also this mosque is HUGE! When you come here I advise you to go to the information centre first. I went here to pray by myself and got lost (but the view is great anyway so it's fine). But it is very hot if you come here to enjoy the view in the middle of the day.

A visit to Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah on 7/Mar/2020. The most unforgettable features of this mosque to me are its outdoor arch and the purple color used, maybe the number of mosque I have seen is not large, I guess purple color is rarely used. After I arrived at the mosque for a while, I heard Adzan from the minaret, it was resonant, I was deeply attracted to stay there to listen to. I even record the voice, when google map supports to upload a video, I will update. There are 4 pillars looking like umbrellas, the function of them are used as shelters for prayers in rainy days. The inner side of the mosque is luxuriant, visitors (prayers and non-prayers) are free to come in, I lingered in the mosque for more than 1 hour.

The umbrellas were closed even though the day was super bright - cost saving, understood. But the toilet and the place for taking ablution was lacking of fresh air and was wet wet wet.. inside the mosque, as most of mosques I have ever been to in this country, children were running here and there, women talk-siding loudly sometimes giggling, and of course some were taking nap..

This mosque have an old giant or big Qur'an in hall of mosque, the architecture like Medina mosque but in little version and astonishing mosque complex, in this front of mosque plaza they have very big Bedhug and they have tourist attraction in top of mosque tower we can see semarang city around here, in parking lot area they have many food stalls selling many original hand gifts from semarang city, i take a photo shot this mosque in rainy day, editing it, and voila this photo very amazing.

Lawang sewu just like before i visited. Great colonial building and history to tell. But unfortunetly, this time, when i go to the dungeon, the guide didn't not tell us about the history. More like to tell us about the structure of the building and more. And just to add some advice, if visitor buy the advance ticket like me, please provide the personal tour guide immediately, so we do have to look for the tour guide place on our own

This place is majestic. When visiting this place I would strongly suggest you to use a guide provided there, it’s not free service (for a family of four you will have to pay at least IDR100,000) but it’s really worth it. The guide will not only tell you the history about this place but they are good photographer as well, they will tell you the best location to take picture and will take a nice picture for you.

Really place to learn some of local history. The flow of the museum needs to be better sih. So people like me, when decided to go there without any guide still can do a proper tour. Maybe a guide letter / sign can help. Sssstt they got a hidden basement tour (some said it haunted!)

When learning about the Old Semarang, Lawang Sewu is one of the historical place to understand the history of how the Indonesian Train company was initially founded. From getting off the train at Stasiun Semarang Tawan, visiting the Old Town, then learning about the architecture of the initial Train Company HQ at Lawang Sewu and then closing it with the old St. Ambarawa Museum is a must.

A great place to know a little bit more about the Indonesian history with the Dutch. I love that there's something for everyone: adults, small children and older people. I got to do the immersive one - price a tad more expensive than the other entrance fee but worth it to have someone talk to you about the history behind Lawang Sewu. Prices probably will change so I'd refer you to their website. The immersive experience in Building B has AC so a good break from the heat and humidity. There are souvenir shops, photo booths, caricature making if you want the traditional route of having your photo taken, owls that perform tricks, of course eateries and lots of museum like information inside the buildings. Depending on what type of tourist you are - there's something for everyone. Just a little warning, they won't let you bring drinks inside so better to put them inside your bag and drink it after going in or buy from the vendors inside. For the elderly, they also have wheelchairs. Just leave your ID when borrowing one. Outside the gates, local vendors sell toys and other souvenirs too

It did not feel like you visited a traditional Javanese palace; instead, it was full of mixed modern (western) vibes due to the acculturation of the culture over the years. The service provides you with a guide who is quite informative. What you see within the palace is pretty enough. Interesting place for sure, but not much to see.

It's a very nice tourist destination. You are required to get a tourist guide, they will assign them to you before getting in. How much you pay the guide is up to you. The guides are very nice and professional, definitely a recommend. They guides really helps to understand and admire the whole place, culture, and history of it. Notes: you cannot wear short pants or skirt, if you do, they provide jarik (batik cloth) to cover them. We went there on weekday so it's not too crowded. It's better to just get the tickets on the spot.

I really love the palace, we call it Pura. Good vibes, but I can't sit longer because we have to follow the guide. It will be good if we can stay longer at the garden or around Pura. I love sitting and looking around the place while visiting new places.

i think it’s the best way to do tour with a guide. there are really fascinating and interesting information about the royal family. if you don’t already know, you can also attend 1 suro event (check the calendar) by coming at 9pm with black batik top (do not wear velvet nor parang motif), it’d be an interesting experience. the royal family is still living inside the residence so privacy and manners is expected when we visit.

I visited Pura Mangkunegaran in Solo and honestly, it was a pretty cool experience. The palace area isn’t too big, but it’s really beautiful and full of traditional Javanese architecture. The carvings and decorations were super detailed, and the guide mbak oriza ( if I’m not mistaken) she’s on PKL explained a lot about the history, which made it more interesting. Walking around the open halls felt peaceful, and the vibe was very calm and authentic. If you like history or just want to see something different, I’d say this place is worth visiting. Not too crowded and the ticket price is cheap too. Just remember to dress politely when you go. Definitely a nice spot to chill and learn something new!

So if you’re single woman, who knows? You might just be in the right place at the right time 😄 haha

I am sorry Solo but this is the worst ever. I had high expectations visiting the place but you let me down. Admission cost of IDR 35k is too high with what I have been experiencing; I felt being robbed. Guide was provided however you need to join with the others; I thought the guide was for myself only. The museum section is so old and feels like it is not being well maintained. The other area for explore is kind of garden surrounded by the “pendopo”. That’s it. No more exploration area. I prefer Jogja than Solo; visiting Keraton wise.

Solo Keraton is still in an active palace in Solo, the King and Queen still live in this place, but tourist can go only visit some parts of the palace which is the backyard. If you are willing to visit, better bring fan, umbrella, sunscreen and use shoes. Don’t use sandal, because they will ask you to take off and walk barefoot inside the keraton.

If you'd like to learn more about the history of Surakarta (Solo) during the kingdom period, I recommend visiting this Royal Palace (Keraton). They provide a guided tour experience where you'll be able to see the Palace's Courtyard, Museum, and Event Hall. The Palace has many more inner areas however it's restricted for tourists; mostly those are the private residences of the Royal Family Members. If you're wearing sandals, you need to take them off and explore the Palace Yard barefoot, but shoes are allowed (not sure the thought process behind it). Sarong is provided for those who are wearing shorts or skirts to cover up. Tickets: IDR 35k for locals, IDR 60k for foreigners, and additional IDR 50k if you bring a professional camera. Open from 09 AM - 3 PM daily.

The temple is truly huge, the smell of scent present everywhere, and as for Indonesia this place is clean and pleasant. I wish I had more time to sit down and clean my thoughts or even meditate but I only had two hours free during my business trip. Enjoyable and wonderful place.

However, you are still prohibited to enter their “holy” rooms because they don’t categorize you as “PRAYERS”, meaning if you don’t pay extra for offering incense. One of the best museum trip I ever had. Very nice and clean place. Very neat arrangements although some exhibit lacked written information. But the tour guide was really patient and meticulously explain each and every details of the 11 sections of the batik museum. He really knows and understands and can explain very well almost each batik piece. No photos allowed by their house rules for company discreet reasons. But 2 hours trip around the whole museum with that ticket price (IDR 45.000,- per person already includes tour guide service) was really worth it. Kudos once again to Danar Hadi Solo team.

If you really want to know how and what batik is about, then please visit this museum. In a guided tour of an hour you get to see the finest batik in the world. You get to see the finest and the most exclusive and rarest pieces. All presented in 11 rooms, very nicely and appropriately presented. The guide was very knowledgeable and did not push you to buy anything. You also get to see how the wax is applied to the fabric in real time by highly experienced women. And this is only a small, yet important part of the whole, long process. The shop is next door and also worth a visit. This your chance to be sure of what you are buying is real. Often the batik is stamped, but just as often, it is a mix of stamping and hand-applied waxing (which really drives up the price). But the price range has something for everyone. Go enjoy. You don't have to buy anything if you don't want to.

One of the must-visit places while you’re in Surakarta! I’m Indonesian, born and raised. Do I know Batik? Of course! Do I know its history and how it’s made? Not a clue (I do have a clue but not that much, lol) Well, this place offers exactly that knowledge, along with lots and lots of beautiful private collections that are decades old. In the museum, you’ll be guided by a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. I was traveling alone and happened to be the only visitor at the time, and I was lucky to be guided by Mba Mutiara, she felt more like a friend. She answered every question and even responded to my endless fascination with more fun facts, which made my experience even more enjoyable and unforgettable. Terima kasih Mba Mutia ^^ I highly recommend visiting the House of Danar Hadi if you want to learn more about one of Indonesia’s greatest heritages that is Batik. We had a wonderful time in this musuem, especialy with our guide Gigih ! He was really funny and we could listen to him talk about batik for hours ! The musuem has a lot of magnificient batik from a lot of different periods and you can see how it is made. You can also buy some great quality batik at their shop.

Visited this place by car and there is a little confusion since there are many unofficial guides tried to lure us to visit a certain batik store. Parking is limited. The batik price and collections is okay.

Interesting area housing many batik shops/workshops. Batik ranges from cheap traditional print method up to hand drawn premium batik. Some batik pattern is very old and not often produced nowadays. Park your car and explore on foot. Many local cum guide will offer to bring you around for a small fee/tip. They come useful in navigating small alley way. Those looking for super premium batik should try Goh Tik Swan or Danar. Parking space is very limited.

since i love all about train, visiting this place is one of my wishlist in life. if you want to know the journey of Indonesia railways since beginning, this is the best place to visit. not only the information, you can also see the vintage loco as well as the ambarawa station itself. i also bought the KA wisata ticket, to experience riding on vintage cars from ambarawa to tuntang, enjoying such a beautiful scenery from inside the train car. this would be memorable experience for me. overall, this gives me different experience of holiday :)

This cultural and natural place has been developed well now. The parking areas are separated for motorcycles and cars or buses. The ticket price is relatively cheap. There's also ticket for foreign visitors with different price, of course. Beside temples to see, this place provides some shops selling food and drink that you can bring on your trip to the temple. If you don't like to walk, you might consider to rent a horse to walk you to the temple. Select the horse-riding packages you want. Other facilities you can find here are toilets, canteen, souvenirs shop, theatre, etc. Want to go camping or do outbound activities? Just contact the officer for the reservation.

Gedong Songo temple is one of the tourist destinations and local heritage. When I was visited here, there’s still under construction of parking space. Before, we can park directly in front of the gate of the temple and right now in a bit spacious land in the residential area around. For the access to the every temple is still the same, but the ticket price always increase and should be getting improved if the ticket price higher (maybe for adding more toilets, cleanliness of the temple area, etc) The view is so beautiful and great for take some pics here.

We couldn't quite see the peaks of Merapi or Merbabu because of cloud, but still enjoyed some great views. The land use on the slopes is really interesting - of course farming due to fertile soils, but I was surprised by how many settlements there are and how high up they are. The restaurant served basic but nice food. The volcano movie is really old and needs a refresh.

If you happen to have half a day free in Yogya, take a car to drive around Merapi to enjoy landscape, villages and busy farmers providing fruit and food for the metropolis. Ketep Pass is a marvellous viewpoint on the volcanos and the terrasses. And if Merapi hides in the clouds, there is still a volcano museum about volcanism in Indonesia and Merapi itself. It deserves to be updated, as the 2010 eruption is not covered anymore and only few objects have an English explanation. But it is still worth visiting; there are hardly any foreigners and the cinema will be opened for you only. The film has English subtitles and is worth watching. Enjoy!

So crowded when we came at saturday, tough to find the parking area. But not so many attraction in this place, just a cool view the 2 fabolous mountain Merapi and Merbabu. 12,5 K IDR per person and pay more 9K IDR the get the 2nd level of the place to get higher view to the see the surrounding.

Our trip here was super impromptu but that's alright. They have a lot of posters and displays related to Mount Merapi but to be honest, they feel a bit outdated. They have a café corner that only sells cup noodles and some packaged drinks. And then on top there's also a restaurant with plenty of seats but when we got there at about 9 or 10 AM, not many menus were ready. Not many things to do to be honest but the view is great! You can eat at a Warmindo on the parking lot instead 😅

First time visiting and first impression was so so only. They charge foreigners Rp50k per person and you get one free soft drink. There is a volcano museum but looks pretty run down. Was told can view volcano documentary in the in-house theatre bit it was closed when I visited. What a let down. So the only saving grace was the observation platform at the hill top overlooking the villages. Too bad it was cloudy and misty so did not get to see much of the mountain view.

We were guided through the museum by Mba Amber. She was humorous and very knowledgeable about the museum's contents. Her explanations were easy to understand. The place is spacious, has a large collection, cool temperature, but a bit spooky (for me) 😁🙏🏻

It's so fun visiting this museum. There are 3 options if you want to visit and enter the museum. Each option gives you a different historical explanation and also a different admission ticket starting 50k-100k/person. NB: the guide will explain the history and no taking photos inside allowed. You can take photos once you finish the tour.

It was such an amazing experience! Ullen Sentalu is a 1.2ha private museum in the north part of Jogja. They divide the museum into 3 parts based on the tour theme (details of each theme can be seen on their website). I tried 2 out of 3 tours and they were all amazing. The guides were very informative and funny, and the collections were nicely handled and curated. If you have plenty of time, you should try all the tours, but if you do not, I recommend you try the Vorstenlanden tour. This tour has the biggest area, is more focused on keraton history, and you can get tea and cookies at the end of the tour to feel an Indische vibe. The museum itself was magical; I liked the garden so much. Unfortunately, documentation inside the tour area is prohibited due to copyright. They have a restaurant and a gallery in the exit area if you are hungry after the tour or want to buy some batik or accessories.

Very fulfilling visit guided by mbak Tina 🫶 we arrived at about 14.45 and was immediately escorted to start the tour. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Strictly no photos, videos or voice recording allowed, only in designated spots for pictures. Took the Vorstenlanden tour, 1 hour, ended with a cute little tea time, highly recommended. English guided tour available.

We did about one hour drive from the city to reach this place, which is located at the foot of Mount Merapi. The museum has 3 zones of tour to choose and I chose the Adiluhung Mataram Tour, which explains about the history of Javanese royalties. But the #1 rule of the museum is: you cannot take photos or videos along the tour. So we just took them outside. With all the greeneries around, you can still take beautiful pictures :)

I had a great time at the museum, especially during the Vorstenlanden Tour. However, I do have one complaint: a group of more than 12 people who were not part of our tour suddenly joined in, and the guide didn’t say anything about it. This made us uncomfortable, as these individuals didn’t pay the IDR 100,000 fee like we did. The tour and the museum itself were excellent, but allowing people to join without any control or restriction feels unfair to those who actually paid.

great information, not great upkeep (hard when the entrance free is only 5k). worth a stop if in the area. solid displays/exhibits about volcanic/geological fundamentals, detailed history of Merapi and Indonesian volcanoes in general. whole thing takes about 20 minutes. plenty of parking and good quality roads to get there. bathrooms have no toilet paper.

Back in 2012, I often visited this place with my friend. At that time, it was always empty of visitors. I could take pictures freely without any disturbances. The only problem I encountered back then was that the roof leaked when it rained, but it seems to have been fixed now. A few days ago, I visited this place again, unfortunately, it's now crowded with visitors. Hopefully, those who visit the museum are mindful of cleanliness, avoid littering, and do not damage the exhibits.

High recommended for museum tour. All about of Geology and Volcano education. The Merapi cinema was amazing, creative, great and cool... Recommended for kids, stundents, parents etc. The price is very cheap, only 5000 rupiah but worth it!

This is educative for children's. I like it very much. This impressive museum is located in a striking angular structure that resembles a volcano. Exhibits dedicated to Merapi include a scale model, which demonstrates eruptions from the 18th century until today and how they altered the mountain's shape. There are vintage seismometers on display, along with a motorbike excavated from molten ash. There's an earthquake simulator, a cinema screening the story of the 2010 eruption (10,000Rp) and profiles covering volcanoes of Indonesia and the world.

The shape of the building is iconic. The museum is very educative. I spent more than an hour here just to explore the museum and read every caption. The installations are very interesting and some of them are interactive. They have some relicts from 2010's eruption of Mt. Merapi. This place is very recommended to you who visit Jogja, especially for students.

Entrance fee is 10,000rp for foreigners. Not a expensive museum and quite interesting but it’s really a shame that it’s not well maintained. On the ground floor some panel with lights are not working anymore. On the second floor you can see that there are a lot of leaking in the rooftop and humidity already started damaging the walls.

Merapi Volcano Museum is a great exposition of the importance and the impact of Mt. Merapi to Yogyakarta! It has all the interactive modules and rooms that will provide you the right and essential information to understand how Yogyakarta, and Indonesia, responds and treats disasters. From videos, to sculptures, and eveb mythologies, the museum offers it all. Perhaps my most favorite part is the central model in the lobby of the mountain itself. The rock samples were also fascinating. To make the experience more impactful, get a tour guide and if you are lucky, get a geologist friend who speaks the language. Unfortunately, parts of the museum show disrepair. Mold has creeped into the fiberboard ceiling and some part have decated already. They also need to update their toilets. Although they have a souvenir shop, it is better if it can have its own store so it is more noticeable. I really hope they have future plans to renovate and modernise the facility! We don't want another eruption for them to revive their drive for risk education and communication!

Prambanan Temple is absolutely stunning and a must-visit when in Yogyakarta! The temple complex is vast and beautifully preserved, with incredible stone carvings and towering structures that tell ancient stories from Hindu mythology. Walking around the site feels like stepping back in time. The architecture is breathtaking, especially when you catch it at sunrise or sunset — the lighting makes the temple even more majestic. The area is well-maintained, and there are helpful signs explaining the history. It can get quite hot during the day, so I recommend visiting early in the morning or late afternoon. Definitely worth the visit — both for history lovers and anyone who appreciates incredible cultural landmarks!

I truly enjoyed my visit to Prambanan. The temples are breathtaking, and it’s clear that a great deal of effort goes into preserving the site and maintaining it for visitors. Walking among such extraordinary history was a remarkable experience. However, the end of my visit was completely overshadowed by the sight of animals kept in cages in extremely poor conditions. It was shocking, deeply upsetting, and frankly shameful to see something like this in a place of such cultural and spiritual significance. No historical landmark, especially one as important as Prambanan, should tolerate or endorse the mistreatment of living beings. This left a very bitter impression and turned an otherwise wonderful visit into a moment of anger and sadness. I sincerely hope the authorities take immediate action to remove these animals or ensure they are treated with proper care and dignity. It is unacceptable, and it tarnishes the reputation of an extraordinary site.

I was so delighted to visit Prambanan Temple and feel like I was traveling back in time. The temple complex is stunning, and it’s a great place to learn about history. Beautiful heritage temple from 800sm already almost from 1200 years ago, I just found out when in find was actually as ruin, and the Dutch continued by Indonesian government need to restored it. Not only the Prambanan temple, they have eating place, kids activity, souvenir shop (very cheap) and museum, good place to spend time with family plus educational value.

We went during the monsoon season in December and are the only ones there. Entrance Fee of 50k Rp for Foreigners Likely used to supplement the villagers for intrusion of their farms. Serene walk to the temple and admire the terrace Padi fields. A nice coffee place near the top and certainly recommended for a short break and to enjoy the peacefulness of the area. Temple is recently re-built and somehow characteristic of the temples in Yogya. The road to the ticketing point is only a one way lane and upslope which can be very dangerous during peak season. The village might want to consider improving this as they are collecting a large amount of entrance fee.

The main reason why people go to Selogriyo temple is for the picturesque views of the rice terraces on the way. There is an easy cemented path from the parking area to the temple itself. I would not recommend descending down to the terraces itself unless you are of moderate fitness, and especially not during the rainy season. We did; and the terrain was extremely steep, slippery and challenging. Walking along the narrow steppes can be dangerous and we did slip and fall into the rice paddies a few times (fortunately, we did not fall into the rocky stream as that could be catastrophic). Our guide did get lost on the way (we do not fault him, as the terraces are large and can be confusing). Not too sure if the well-trodden path we were supposed to walk along would be better. Nonetheless, the walk along the cemented trail was easy and beautiful. Docking 1 star because of how far the temple is from Yogyakarta city.

This was a nice quiet walk through terraced fields towards a secluded temple in the hills. Worth the drive here and highly recommended!

Surely worth a visit to another Buddhist temple. This one stands al alone on a beautiful spot and the walk through the rice fields is marvelling. This is not a very touristy spot, surely not in November. But a precious chance to spot daily life and work on the rice fields. Highly recommend!

The road to up is winding and narrow and you have to continue walking from the end road up about 1.5 km. The view however is breathtaking. The temple itself was being reconstructed. Even than the view for me is far more important to see, not to mention friendly natives I met along the walk. I was struggling for the bathroom and one neighbor let me in just like that. Parking is very limited, if possible go with a local driver so you don’t have to worry about parking.

I was amazed by the stunning sceneries along the way to this temple. So green and yet so tranquil. The road for motorbike and pedestrians are well made and maintained. I could not describe more how beautiful this area. And this tiny temple is worth it . On top of the hill ,just if we are lucky enough to enjoy when the sky is clear. Mount Sumbing is the view that we can not miss at all. Parking lot for motorbike is upstair just near to the stairs to the temple but for the car you need to park a little bit far and then you can either walk or take rental bike that costs 25.000 IDR for one way or 40.000 for returns. Toilet is available near by the second gate just before the temple. And it is clean enough. Perfect timing to visit is during dry season ( April to October) or morning when it is not cloudy. I am sure I will be back here to take more pictures.

We visited this Buddhist monastery which is located next to Mendut Temple. There is a mix of Buddhist architectural style here including from Thailand. The main shrine has a peaceful reclining Buddha and it was good to pray here. The grounds have several interesting structures and entrance is free of charge.

It's calm and peaceful, but there's not much to see. Sure, there are statues and a few buildings that look old but none are more than 100 years old. Cool to visit if you're in the neighborhood though. Not very crowded and free to enter. One caveat is that I did not see one monk in this monastery... Weird.

It's a private Buddhist Monastery but open for public. The monastery is very serene and spiritual. When visit we should respect their rules and support their sustainability.

The Mendut monastery and temple are a hidden gem, and definitely underrated. With free entry, the site features several buildings dedicated to prayer and others for meditation. Active monks still live here, giving the place an authentic and peaceful atmosphere. What makes it truly unique is the collection of statues, all donated by different Buddhist countries across Asia. As you walk through, you encounter a fascinating mix of artistic styles—Cambodian, Thai, Japanese, and more. Beautiful, serene, and absolutely worth a visit.

We visited this bustling street in the evening and it was pretty crowded. There are many shops selling batik, apparel, food and souvenirs. There were many horse carriages for rent as well as trishaws. We found that there were more food options at the mall. The road is closed to motorised vehicles in the evening and open to pedestrians only. A must visit place in Yogyakarta especially in the evening.

Beautiful street with a lot of local tourists. Good for shopping! But PLEASE BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS if you’re a foreigner. Some guys from the streets telling you it’s your lucky day because TODAY IS THE LAST DAY of the exhibition. It was all tourists inside! They had a piece of canvas with some old-looking art and kept explaining ‘how it’s done.’ Then they offered free coffee and tea, repeating ‘hospitality, hospitality!’ We left straight away, don’t want to know what happens next. Biggest scammers ever.

Just because i look like an Indonesian, does not mean I am one, and it does not mean I understand the Indonesian language. Please treat your visitors better. Overall this place could be better, there wasn't much guidance and descriptions. I guess if you want to fully understand the whole history and concept, you should hire a tour guide.

I recently visited the Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat—a place steeped in history and emblematic of Javanese royal heritage. The architecture is impressive and quintessentially traditional: ornate wooden carvings, elegant pavilions, and the serene inner courtyard exude a dignified charm. Yet, I found the experience slightly underwhelming in terms of activities. Before arriving, I had read about various cultural exhibitions and performances taking place here. However, when I visited, none were happening—I couldn’t find any visible signs or information about upcoming events or live demonstrations. This palace is undeniably a must‑see for anyone curious about Yogyakarta’s cultural roots. From a visual standpoint, it’s beautifully preserved—reflecting the grandeur and spiritual atmosphere of the royal court. But for those seeking immersive or interactive experiences, it may feel static and purely observational. The visit was more about appreciating the architecture and ambiance rather than engaging with the living culture that once pulsated within these walls. In summary, the Kraton is a significant cultural and historical landmark—clean, well‑maintained, and visually striking—but somewhat lacking in stimulation or spectacle. I would recommend it as a necessary stop for cultural context and photography, but don’t go expecting performances or dynamic exhibits unless you verify beforehand. It’s a quiet, reflective experience—not a theatrical one.

Visiting historical places is always fun, and during school holidays, exploring temple sites is a must! One top destination is the Yogyakarta Palace (Keraton), filled with cultural treasures and ornaments that tell stories of our ancestors and the long history of Javanese art and tradition. The way Javanese heritage is presented here is super engaging—it really grabs kids’ attention and helps them connect with their cultural roots. Such a fun and meaningful holiday! To enter the Keraton, you buy a ticket, and there are guides available in various languages to take you around and explain everything. As some others have said, it's a lackluster experience where you just wander around the courtyards, observing the architecture from afar and seeing some random objects scattered about. No performances or exhibits while I was there, nor were any advertised even if they did have them hidden somewhere. Many schools come here on educational trips, and they clearly take staff priority over tourists. Also, if you use Google Maps and you are coming from the water palace of the southern area, it will likely try to send you walking in from the back exit. Be prepared to get told off by staff, saying you need to "go around" to the entrance while being oblivious of any wrongdoing.

I will say “this is the only active palace in Indonesia which still upholds their true culture and identity”. Ticket price is decent, well managed and maintained, high standard without losing its uniqueness. The guards are amazing, they really doing their job while adjusting to tourist activity (not the other way around）, this is rare in this era.

Must visit - we loved the palace grounds. There are a number of small exhibitions on different topics which we liked. There was a wayang kulit performance happening along with the gamelan orchestra and it was amazing.

Beautiful heritage building, very well manage and clean. All the people are polite. Great place to find out some of the history of Yogyakarta.

I visited Taman Sari Tourist Village and found it really interesting to walk around. The old bathing pools and underground passages give you a glimpse of the history and culture of Yogyakarta. The surrounding village is also fun to explore with small shops and local people selling crafts. It is not a huge site but it is unique and worth a visit if you are already near the palace.

We visited Taman Sari Royal Garden because we were looking for a place that was open that day — it was my second to the last day in Yogyakarta, and unfortunately, the palace itself was closed. I’m glad we ended up here though, because it turned out to be a really unique and memorable experience. It wasn’t too crowded when we went — there were a mix of locals and foreigners, and the atmosphere felt calm and pleasant. The sun was very hot outside, but once you go inside the chambers and passageways of the garden, it becomes surprisingly cool. Each section feels like a hidden corner full of history and charm. What stood out to me most were the many small pathways and exits all around the garden. There seems to be only one main entrance, but several exits lead into nearby residential areas or small alleys that connect to local streets. It really gives you a sense of how this place once functioned as a living, breathing royal space — private, mysterious, and full of life. Even though the structures are old, you can still imagine how stunning it must have been at its peak — with the pools, gardens, and chambers in their full glory. It’s one of those places that lets you step back in time and feel part of Yogyakarta’s royal history. A truly cool and fascinating place to explore — peaceful, historical, and worth the visit.

I have no regrets about visiting this historical site, even with the crazy heat in Jogja that day. It definitely still needs ongoing maintenance and preservation. Taman Sari was the Sultan's / King’s former water castle/bathhouse, I can only imagine how grand and cool this place was back then. Entrance is 25K.

Historical place where it was bath place for kings back in the time. It wows you with the architecture and the beauty of the place. It is quite a big complex where you will walk a lot and tons of place to take beautiful pictures. There will be guides once you enter who will offer their service, totally up to you to take it. Some alleys are in the neighbourhood area which means you will walk around people’s house.

Taman Sari has an interesting old royal structure and some really nice photo spots, but it’s definitely overhyped and heavily crowded. Good for a quick look, not ideal if you want a calm historical experience.

-2018- Tempatnya menarik sekali. kalau dari bawah memang tidak bisa benar-benar terlihat telaganya ada berapa warna, tapi kalau naik ke atas lagi baru terlihat perbedaan warnanya. Tempatnya luas banget dan rimbun, nyaman banget di sini. Walaupun siang tidak terlalu terasa panas. -2022- Good place to gdo, spending time to find peace (especially around low season). The area is wrapped around hills and mountains, giving ultimate chill situation. The lake is looking great as how it used to be, they are providing a lot photo spots nowadays, so you can go and enjoy taking pictures here. There's a lot of resting and hangout area, unfortunately when I come here they are in the middle of low season and currently in fasting month, so not all the hangout place are open. The caves that are located within the lake giving me ultimate peace (since no one are visiting), I can hear the sound of nature, it's cold and so calm. I walk around 5 minutes from Batu Tulis, take a leap and back to Batu tulis again. Over all this place is giving you chance to reconnect to nature very well (especially during non-holiday season)!

It is situated in the Dieng hills. While going here from Yogyakarta, you will be passing on the hilly roads having coffee plantations or farms on either side. The main attraction here is the lake which show different colors, hence the name 'Telaga Warna' which translates to 'Color Lake' in English. It was raining when we visited here, so we could not see any different colors really. You should be here on a sunny day to see those. Overall a decent place to visit and the lush greenery makes it more beautiful.

My expectation about this place is kinda too much maybe, it's definitely a good place but i think the people that responsible for organizing, controlling this place isn't doing theirs. I really hope it can be greater than this. And please for the visitor, don't ever throw your rubbish or litter here. It is very disgusting.

I think this place can be one of the recommended place to get you relax. When I go there, there was no many people means very comfort to enjoy the view of the nature.

One of the famous tourist places to visit in Dieng but unfortunately i visited in wrong time cause after a long summer the water receding but its still fine . The facilities such as toilets and food stalls are good. You should buy kue rangin sell by an old man which has the best taste of rangin i've ever try!

Borobudur Temple is absolutely breathtaking — truly one of the most awe-inspiring places I’ve visited in Indonesia. The scale, detail, and history behind this temple are just incredible. Walking up through the different terraces as the sun rises, surrounded by mist and the sound of birds, is something that feels almost spiritual. Every level reveals new carvings and stories, and the view from the top is unforgettable. That said, the guided tour could have been better. Our guide was kind and enthusiastic, but unfortunately very difficult to follow — his explanations were rushed and not very clear, so most of the group ended up wandering off and exploring on our own. It’s a shame, because with a bit more structure and clear storytelling, the tour could have really brought the temple’s history to life. Even so, Borobudur is a must-visit. Whether or not you get a great guide, the atmosphere and beauty of the site more than make up for it. If you visit, I’d recommend either reading a bit about the temple’s background beforehand or using an audio guide, so you can better appreciate what you’re seeing. A truly remarkable place — just wish the guided experience matched the magic of the monument itself. 🌅

This is a must see. Purchase your tickets online closing the convenient time.slot as well as the option of going to the top. You will be assigned for a tour guide inside the temple and he will explain all the story about it giving as well some details from what u see. It is really worth visiting knowing All the history and to see all nice views and also for nice photos. Electric cars are punctual and on on time to get you from entrance to the temple entrance. There is as well a big souvenirs shops market at that area. Highly recommended but during the day it can be very hot and sunny so bring an umbrella and/or hat and sunscreen. And prepare yourself to be given a slipper and put your shoes in a bag (they take care of everything at entrance and it is included in the climbing ticket).

The only downside is the way out — it feels a bit like a maze since you have to walk through a long souvenir market before exiting. Highly recommend to visit here. Everything is included with 455k entrance fee. Water, slippers to Protect the temple and a guide is included. They schedule by group per hour. Organized and helpful guides. You can also asked the guards for pictures they know how to take it.

Borobudur Temple is truly an amazing destination. I really enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere and the beautiful scenery here. The facilities are also very modern and well-managed. However, I found a navigation issue. The area is so vast that we had a hard time finding our way, and the signposts from the parking lot were not very clear. My suggestion is that it would be very helpful if the management could provide map brochures in the parking area or at the ticket counter. That way, visitors can explore more easily without getting lost. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience!

Borobudur Temple was on my bucket list. And I made to visit it. Some pros: - absolutely amazing art and experience (of course not comparable to Angkor Wat- lets say nothing can beat AW) - tickets for 15:30 actually are for sunset, and this is best time to enjoy the sun extracting colors from the temple. - we bought tickets for Temple Structure, which allows to climb to the top, and include buggy ride. Are 40k IDR more expensive - ticket includes shoes (kind of bamboo flip flops), and bottle of water CONS: - overpriced! 455k IDR (25$) because you’re foreigner (75k IDR for local) - a lot of hustle and bustle around for taxi, souvenirs etc - guide was enough - EXIT is a NIGHTMARE, as you need to get thorough maze of really pushy sellers, which makes me panic to get out of there! Outside- another group pushing for taxi, some souvenirs. Please respect our „NO thank you” boundaries, as we- foreigners- are respecting your prices, places and culture. Whatever good impressions I had, they got lost with going through exit. TIPS: 1. Only Structure Tickets, buy online in advance 2. Preferably entrance at 15:30 3. Take extra water with you 4. Keep calm and move on through maze of shops to get to the desired exit.

hacking this hill just takes 30 minutes. camping near parking but you can camp in the top of the hill, but the place is not wide enough. i didn't get sunrise of that time because it was so cloudy there

Last time i went here is much much fun. Now more convinience just because of the walking path. However,now its limited access to the crater. Before we can take picture around the crater where there are some aesthetic dead trees. Now,there are some people (not sure they are legal persons or not) stand on the access and only allow people who pay for photo to go in. I personally feel its ridicilous. If its restricted due to the safety reasons and why its open for commercial photo.Too bad

The beautiful crater, the pungent sulphur fog smoke, the still cold air that is refreshing. And one more beautiful photo spot, don't forget to stop by the UMKM market.

Great place , strong smell, but the way out feels like tourist trap . Like u have to go through around and round about 10times then u will find the exit.. all the way they is shops selling souvenirs & foods and the route is small.. it’s really feels like trap before go out.

We came here after visiting Sikunir and the surrounding areas. We bought the tickets for Arjuna Temple, and we used the same ticket, Rp 30K per person, to come here as well. It’s easy to find a place because there is a big sign. Parking lot is big as well, and there are toilets, mushola, and souvenir shops around the area. The ticket is different for local and foreigners. You can see the boiling sulfuric water in the craters. The aroma is of course very distinct, like rotten eggs. After a while you will get used to it or you can also use the mask. Some people sell the masks on the entrance point. Please pay attention to the rules and the do’s and the don’ts while visiting this area. Don’t stay too long and mind the parameters. ♿️ for accessibility features: There are ramps and platforms around the area to see the craters. Somehow, the first ramp heading to the main crater is a bit tricky and not too friendly for wheelchair users, although the next wooden platform is mostly flat.

Very unique location. Having never visited an active crater before this was an awesome experience. Smell of sulphur can be overpowering, should have grabbed some sort of a face mask. There is a tourist attraction of buying eggs boiled in the crater (Rp5.000/egg). Definitely worth visiting.

The crater itself is amazing and the wooden decks around the crater makes it easy to explore for visitors. My main issue is with the exit. To exit the crater area, we were directed to walk through a local market, with which I am totally fine (many tourist places around the world do the same thing). The problem though is how the roads through the market are unmaintained despite the place charging us entrance fees. Some of the walkways are just soil, some parts have paving blocks, some parts have sacks as foundations. The uneven surface also creates some water-catching potholes. Even the local sellers have to use buckets to catch rainwater falling from their own tents. Other problems include tiles on the center area that seem to not be glued onto anything as foundation. During the rain, water will seep up when you step on the tiles. Another problem is with parking attendants who just charge you random fees as they like despite you paying for an IDR30k entrance fee. The management/local dinas pariwisata/pemerintah desa/kabupaten really need to be serious and step up their game if they want to be on par with other destinations or even to just be considered by international visitors.

When you take traveling from Jakarta ,Cirebon , Borobudur, so Dieng you must be stay 1or 2 night, nature , culture , and beautiful view

As a mountain guy, i prefer this place compared to Bali. I like heights and theres so many mountains around this place, i find it very exciting. The view is superb, weather is cold all year long. If you go on Aug-Sep, be sure to bring extra jacket cause it is very cold!

One of the recommended place to visit in Central Java. Plenty of adventures to do and great places to stay too. And the best thing is the weather is very cold around July to September months.

Mysterious plate to visit. We drove from Wonosobo to the Dieng Plateau. Road is very scenic, nice view to the several mountains. We were lucky that it was clear. Recommend to drive in the morning, the bigger chance it is clear. On the plateau we visited the temples, the crater and hiked through the fields.

Stayed overnight at Dieng Plateau before hiking Gunung Prau, and it was unforgettable! The views are breathtaking, with stunning landscapes all around. The cold weather added to the charm, making it a perfect spot to soak in the serene vibe. Highly recommend visiting for a refreshing escape and incredible scenery!

I went in May 2025.. the night before was raining… I was blessed with good sunrise and misty with sea of clouds.. the view was so beautiful ..we have been walking up to Setumbu hill from car park to the top about 15mins. There is stone staircases and lights along the way we trekked..

We never get to see the sea of clouds when we went here but still grateful for a nice weather and sunset. Climbing the stairs uptop is not so fun.

A beautiful place to watch the sunrise from the top of Borobudur Temple. The best time to visit is around 4:30 AM. Make sure you're physically fit, as you'll need to walk. The entrance fee is affordable.

Located just 30 minutes from Yogyakarta, Punthuk Setumbu offers a stunning sunrise view in the morning. The path to the top is elderly-friendly and very safe—I went when it was slightly raining, and it was still manageable. However, you’ll need to plan ahead and check the weather forecast, as some days can be too cloudy for a clear sunrise. Overall, it’s a beautiful experience and definitely worth the wait!

It is about a 10 minute hike on paved path + stairs to the top. Parking is 10k, entrance is 20k for locals and 50k for foreigners. A lot of people up here so forget about serene experience on a weekend. There’s a cafe at the top that serve coffee and tea. There are several benches, chairs, and raised garden bed edges that you can sit on. Since the sun rises from behind the mountains, it will be visible about 15 minutes later than usual. The old walking path that leads straight to gereja ayam has been overgrown, but there is a local bike path that you can use if you want to walk there. 29/06/25

The spot isn't large, but the view is amazing. We visited this place passing a dam called Waduk Sermo, climbing up a hill with very steep and narrow road. After quite long climb...we reached the top and as I had expected (I saw the pics on Google) we saw a beautiful dam surrounded by green carpet all over the hill.

Nice spot to spend time, beautiful view. The only problem is the road to go there is quite challenging. You can enjoy nice view of waduk sermo from this area. Fresh air and calm nature will rejuvenate your soul. However, there's few activities that closed at the time I visit this place (mostly due to not enough visitors after the pandemic). Also not many food stall that open to bussiness, afaik only 4 on top and 2-3 at the parking lot.

The views are beautiful, especially during morning sun. Big and tall trees around. A view of a reservoir might be the best part. Many spots for photoshoots. Either free or paid and taken by a photographer. But to get here is a struggle itself. The road is too steep and narrow. No clear sign that direct you to the place. Be careful because side by side is deep cliffs. The trip itself is also an amazing journey. Parking lot is also a problem during peak season. Not really enough to accommodate visitors because it is too narrow.

I was a bit disappointed by this park to be honest. It's quite a far drive and it's not very big. We had bad weather, which probably didn't help. Also, all the photo spots are closed between 12-1pm, so we couldn't even access the platforms. The drive towards it was nice though!

It's a very good place for family. There are many spots for capturing pictures. But you need to pay some money each person to climb onto the spot. Yet you can also capture moments for free in any spots possible. The parking garage is available 200 m from the entrance. You may rent an ojek or you can walk by yourself. (I personally find it unworthy😅) Oh, actually 4 KM before the parking garage and entrance, some people will come to you to offer a ride with Jeep. I strongly advice you to not take any offering from people who offer you a rent to Jeep ride if you want to save money. It costs 200k. But if your car doesn't have enough cc (1250 cc minimum i guess), it's OK to take Jeep ride (due to bad condition of the road).

Love the place though the area is not big and it is far from anywhere. It is actually a lookout with a view to Waduk Sermo and its surrounding. The scenery is a good and the air is fresh. There are three 'main' photo spots, you need to pay for each spot or have a 'package' for all three spots - the photo spot fee is per person. The photographer can help to take photos by using their DSLR with price per picture that you want (e.g. can take 10 photos but only take 2-3 photos). You pay only the photos that you want and the pictures will be copied to your handphone by cable data. The photo spot and the DSLR's photo fee are 'cheap' for a tourist area.

it is nice place to be here. the road is challanging and your body must be in good condition. it is so cheap but for taking pictures in places for photo are expensive. here also you can get outbond for children. if you come here with your children, it will be nice and enjoyble

Serene and peaceful if you want to get away from the bustling Jogja town center. Getting here would required one to drive through some narrow roads and if you are not good at traveling in a windy road, this is not for you. This plane is about 20 mins away from the Kalibiru which one can see the cloud, the jogja international airport, the padi fields and the mountains range in the near vicinity.

This place has a nice view and recommended for camping with family or friends. We can see the sunrise but unfortunately can't see the sunset. There are food sellers there, so no need to worry if we're hungry. There are clean toilets, parking is also neatly organized.

actually, the camping ground is on the "taman bambu runcing". Nice camping place with friends. There is no limitations for how you should place your tents, So I recommend you to came in 3 pm. This place has great view and the most important is clean. But I do have complain about how the tap water color is kinda white😂. But, I guess it is hygiene enough so never mind. You can also fishing in here. Very recommended

Sermo is a dam with a scenic view, holding approximately 25 million cubic meters at the normal water level. The dam was built at the Rancah River, a tributary of the Progo river system. This reservoir serves 3,000 hectares farming land and the remaining outflow runs into the Bawang River. The dam was constructed in the Kulonprogo Regency, starting in the year 1994, completed and inaugurated on 20 November 1996 by the Indonesian Republic President, Soeharto. Currently the dam is managed by a specific dam management unit under the Ministry of Public Works and Housings. Local tourism flourishes within the dam’s greenbelt.

Good view. Poor service. Too slow. Really disorganized. Standard price. The recommended dishes here: fried tofu, sayur asam, and grilled chicken. Others are really below standard.

Located in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, it's a medium-sized reservoir. A beautiful view on the water and the green surrounding mountains. There is a large parking lot with gazebos, some food shops and motor boats for a trip around. A good restaurant named Top View not far from the parking lot offers delicious Javanese and popular foods with a cozy atmosphere, a lodging, a clean toilet and a musholla. The place is dark and desolate at night. Recommended attractions nearby include Pule Payung view resort and Kopi Pari cafe.
