Visiting Gantey Monastery in Bhutan was one of the most memorable experiences of my travels. Nestled in the serene Phobjikha Valley, the monastery stands as a beacon of Bhutanese spirituality and culture. Upon arriving, the first thing that struck me was the tranquility that enveloped the area. The air was crisp, and the sound of birds chirping added to the calm atmosphere.

The monastery is very sacred and old. It is at the starting point of the valley. There is renovation work happening for last two years but does not have any obstructions due to that. Worth a visit. Unlike other places there is no entry fee for foreign tourists.

We visited Gangtey Monastery early in the morning. The place was quiet, with only a few monks around, and the soft light made the traditional buildings look even more beautiful. The courtyard is wide and peaceful, surrounded by prayer wheels and detailed woodwork. It’s easy to explore and gives a nice glimpse into monastic life. After the visit, we continued straight onto the nearby Gangtey Nature Trail – a lovely and easy walk through fields and forest, with great valley views. A perfect combination of culture and nature in one stop.

Located in Bhutan's beautiful Phobjikha Valley, Gangtey Monastery is a 17th century Buddhist monastery known for its stunning architecture. We were lucky to experience the chanting of monks just above the entrance. The place was flooded with locals offering their prayers so we got to experience their culture. We were also lucky to get blessed by the monks. It was a beautiful day for us.

This monastery is likely one of the last things you'll see before heading back to the Lawala Pass on your way back to Punakha (or to areas further east). It's a nice monastery with a lot of history, and it is quite busy and active with monks everywhere. As of March 2025 parts of the monastery were under construction and closed, but there was still enough open to make it worth a visit.

The valley is beautiful with scenic views and a jungle /forest trail. But the issue is accommodation very very basic and also availablity of vegetarian food is difficult .... Also, I'd suggest not opting for homestays at all. Hot water is not available. Also, the washroom facilities are below average

One of the most beautiful and scenic places in Bhutan. Lush green grasslands surrounded by mountains are so peaceful to be seen. It was monsoon season when we visited, it was foggy, cool breeze with light drizzle. If you visit here in November till spring season (March) you can see black necked cranes who migrate from Tibet during winter months. Also the valley is full of beautiful flowers during spring and summer season.

Absolutely beautiful and serene valley in Bhutan. It is a must visit. The short hike from Gangtey monastery was such a pleasant one surrounded by pine forests. The valley seems filled with the famous black neck cranes during the season from Oct mid till December however we didn't get an opportunity to get a sight of that. Beautiful U-shaped valley with lush green wetland pastures surrounded by mountains covered with woodland. Lovely walking trails which crisscross the valley. In the winter months the wetland is the home for the black necked cranes.A must visit place, the valley is like an amphitheater of nature. We visited the valley on our second trip of Bhutan in February 2020. Were lucky to spot the black necked cranes. The night was cold but the amiable and young staff of the valley camp made us comfortable, as we spent time in their warm and cosy dining hall, in front of a crackling fire. The view of the valley in the morning from the campsite will forever remain etched in my memory. Would have liked to explore more beyond the short drive we did up the hilly road into the woods. The crane sanctuary is a must visit if you come here.On the fourth day of our Bhutan adventure, we visited the picturesque Phobjikha Valley, known for its stunning natural beauty and serene landscapes. Beautiful place for worship

This temple is one of the ancient temples in India as well as Assam, a very beautiful place and surrounded by mother nature, and anyone can google about this temple if you want to know more about this temple. But my main concern is regarding the cleanliness and the pujari system. Immediately after parking people are asking for buying puja materials then after entering the temple pujaris are telling me to give money here and there and after coming out of the temple I visited the pond to see the turtle 🐢, and my goodness the pond was so dirty and full of algae. The temple authority should maintain the pond as well as the surroundings of the temple.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.it was build by the koch king Narnarayan dev. The inner sanctorum currently has medium sized carving of hayagriva or horse necked (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu) flanked by two smaller Vishnu idols on either side in the form of Jagannath,Vasudeva,Gorur pakshi. It is impressive and the hall has completely fallen down with ruins scattered everywhere and they have added modern wooden and tin sheet hall to the historic sanctum for completeness sake.The sculpture on the outer walls in the form of lively hayagreeva,rama lakshmana,Vishnu carried by Garuda flanked by lady helper assistants,warrior sitting on elephant fighting with lion,fading away astadikpala,damaged warrior on horse, depict of ramayan a, different types of devi form, immortal expressions of couple on makaram or crocodile chariot,few social themes of devotees and musicians,human Vishnu travelling on horse,white washed expressions of warrior couple and finally Narasimha removing the intestines of hiranyakasipu and his sad expression. The Vishnu puskar is pond lies front of the temple which is home to local fished of assam and very rare turtle species ( green soft turtle). It is believed here that they are the form of Lord Vishnu ( matashya and Kurma internation) , and people come there to feed them.

Everything about the place is mystical. I reached the temple after a 2.5 hour cycling Trip from my house. You would think I would be tired but nope! As I entered the place, every bit of tiredness faded away. A truly divine experience 🙏

It is better to purchase the VIP tickets online which opens 7 days before. It is being sold out immediately. Better to purchase at 12.01 am 7 days before. It costs Rs.500 per head. If you go by 7 am, you can come out in 2 hours after Darshan. Tuesdays and Saturdays, there will be huge rush. The temple is maintained privately, I believe. The most powerful Shakthi Peet. Must visit at least once.

This was very much disgusting‼️ The temple management authority should take some appropriate actions to avoid this and open the main temple, গর্ভগৃহ, for all the devotees. They should also look at the cleanliness of the temple premises and queue management very seriously‼️

Visiting Maa Kamakhya was a journey of spiritual awakening. Nestled in Simanchal Hills in Assam it is one of the important shakipeeths. You can either get general ticket which is a bit costly or you can get VIP tickets which are available at ₹501. You can get VIP tickets online as well but you have to book it in advance at least a week ago as they sell very fast. The worship items are sold at shops located outside the temple and you can also keep your shoes here. It took us 13 hours to worship Maa Kamakhya but it was totally worth it.

Since it’s not as crowded as nearby Kamakhya Temple, you can enjoy a more relaxed spiritual experience. 2. Scenic Views: It’s perched on Nilachal Hill, a little higher than Kamakhya. From the temple, you can get panoramic views of Guwahati city and the Brahmaputra River. Great for photo‑opportunity, taking in nature, especially around sunrise or sunset. 3. Easy to Combine with Kamakhya Visit: Because of its proximity, Bhubaneswari Temple is a must-visit as part of the Kamakhya‑temple tour. If you’re already making the trip up the hill, adding Bhubaneswari doesn’t take too much extra effort. 4. Good during Festivals: The temple becomes especially lively during Ambubachi, Navratri, Manasa Puja, etc. These times offer an immersive cultural and devotional experience. AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: 1. Attraction Value (for Tourists): If you’re going purely for architectural splendor or sightseeing, you might find Bhubaneswari less impressive compared to big temples. There’s less ornamentation, fewer facilities, fewer shops, etc. It may appeal more to those seeking calm or spiritual fulfilment than grand tourist appeal. 3. Steep/Stair Climb: There are stairs/paths up the hill. For elderly people or those with mobility issues, this could be a factor. Proper footwear, planning for rest, etc. help. 4. Crowds during Peak Times: During festivals or special days, there will be a lot more devotees. That means more waiting, more congestion. If you're sensitive to crowds, going during off‑peak hours helps. TIPS IF YOU WISH TO VISIT: • Go early morning or late afternoon for cooler weather, softer light, fewer people. • Wear modest clothing, comfortable shoes. • Carry water, perhaps some snack. Little shops nearby likely exist but always good to be self‑sufficient. • If visiting during a festival, plan ahead (accommodation, travel, timings). • Respect temple customs (e.g. removing shoes, dress code). MY OVERALL TAKE: If you like places that combine nature + spirituality + a calm setting, Bhubaneswari Temple is definitely worth a stop. It may not blow your mind if you're expecting huge ornate temples, but its charm is in its tranquility, views, and spiritual atmosphere. It’s a refreshing place in contrast to more “busy” temples.

A very nice temple to visit for darshan of Bhubaneswari devi. You need to climb 50 steps for darshan. It is very near to Kamakhyadevi Devi temple.

Visited the Assam State Museum recently. The entry ticket is quite affordable at just ₹33, but it can only be purchased online — no cash option available. There's an additional ₹33 charge if you want to take photos. Unfortunately, most of the museum is currently under renovation. We were only able to visit 2 or 3 sections. The areas that were open had some really impressive and well-maintained ancient collections, which gave a glimpse into Assam’s rich heritage. However, the overall experience was limited due to the ongoing work. Would recommend visiting after renovations are completed for a fuller experience.

It is one of the State of the art Museum of Assam. History of Assam is represented here. Life of normal people is also represented very well by showcasing sculptures, Old houses, Musical instruments, eatables items, clothes, etc. The Museum is well managed, thanks to the workers here.

The Assam State Museum is one of the best places in Guwahati to explore the rich cultural, historical, and artistic heritage of Assam and the Northeast. Located conveniently near Dighalipukhuri, the museum is well-maintained and easily accessible. The museum houses an impressive collection — from ancient sculptures, coins, and manuscripts to tribal artifacts, textiles, and traditional tools. The ethnographic and sculpture sections are particularly fascinating, offering a detailed glimpse into Assam’s tribal culture and artistic excellence. It’s a wonderful place for anyone who wants to understand the deep cultural roots of this region. However, there are a few areas that need improvement. There is no official guide or audio guide system to help visitors understand the exhibits, which makes it difficult for outsiders to grasp the full context of the displays. Also, the rules about photography are confusing — some staff say mobile photography is allowed, while others strictly prohibit it, which can be frustrating. Another disappointing part was the attitude of the volunteer staff assigned to assist visitors. Instead of being welcoming and informative, some of them were quite rude and unhelpful, which spoiled the overall experience a bit. Despite these issues, the museum remains a must-visit for anyone interested in Assam’s art, culture, and history. The entry fee is affordable, and the atmosphere inside is peaceful, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace. Good museum to visit in Guwahati but lots area are under maintenance so, Little sad for that. Adult ticket price 33 and for students it's just 11 If you want to take photos then 66 rupees extra you have to pay.

It is amazing experience to visit Assam State Museum, though the museum is small but it is enriched with some very rare artefacts. It is just opposite of Dighalipukuri lake. It was established in 1940 and later took over by Assam Government in the year 1953. Some very rare sculptures are kept in this museum. You must visit the boat section where a large wooden boat is kept and secured properly. You can see the ahom king's dress, various Assamese textiles are displayed too. I saw a very rare durga idol whose photo is attached in this post. I found it very different than other durga idols seen in other place. It will take approx 2-3 hours to see all the artefacts in the museum. The museum remains open 06 days from 10:00am – 5:00pm during summers and from 10:00am – 4:30pm during winters except on Mondays; 2nd and 4th Saturday and Government Holidays.

Very good museum.went there with my cousin . Very old artefacts. But some paintings in the hallway are missing only the names are written . Please fix that. Otherwise itis a very good place to learn and see the history of assam. Pls note that you need to pay a fee to take photos and videos

I have really collected more historical photos as well I could rerelate in past memories. Real after seeing I couldn't words for this.it was tremendous history picture. They was very intelligent civilians.

If you truly want to experience Guwahati, this place is it. Located on top of a hill, this Temple gives you a panoramic view of the city on one side and the Brahmaputra river on the other. North Guwahati is clearly visible from here as well. The road up is steep but nothing too bad like all those years ago when it was a challenge to get to this Temple. One thing to note: be careful of the monkeys!

I recently visited Navagraha Temple, located on top of Navagraha Hill in Guwahati, and it was a truly peaceful and divine experience. The temple is dedicated to the nine celestial planets (Navagrahas), and each one is represented by a Shiva Linga. The spiritual energy here is very calming, and the chants and atmosphere make it a special place to visit. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful — you get a clear view of the city and the Brahmaputra River, especially during sunrise or sunset. The walk or drive uphill is smooth, and there’s a calm vibe all around. I also saw many people offering puja to reduce the negative effects of certain planets in their horoscopes. There’s no entry fee, and you can buy flowers, diyas, and offerings just outside the temple. It’s well-maintained and clean. I’d definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting Guwahati — whether for spiritual reasons or just for the scenic beauty. 🛕✨🙏

The Navagraha Temple, meaning “Temple of the Nine Celestial Bodies”, is one of the most important and ancient temples in Assam. It is dedicated to the Navagrahas (Nine Planets in Hindu mythology) and plays a major role in astrological and spiritual traditions. Visited this zoo during with high expectations and I was disappointed to see it in a bad condition. I went with high expectations because this zoo is located in a big city and I thought that it would be filled with various unique animals but I was disappointed to see only a few deers, hog deers, snakes and some other common animals. Many cages were empty with no animals inside. The price of the ticket is ₹33 for adults and you can book it online as well. I have visited Patna zoo which I think was much better than this place. Some construction work was also going on inside the zoo, maybe after the construction is complete this place will become great but for now I think It's best to avoid this place if you are a tourist roaming around Guwahati.

There is a provision for well maintained children's park🍄 inclusive vehicle service. It was a nice experience visiting the zoo but it has less space.

Visited the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden recently, but the experience was quite underwhelming. The zoo is smaller than expected, and many enclosures were empty, which was disappointing. Some parts were under construction, making it difficult to explore properly. We could only see a few common animals. The place has potential but needs better maintenance, more animals, and proper management to attract visitors again.

Ticket Fare: Rs. 33/- for adults. Online ticket is also available. Same price in both offline and online. Bio toilets available inside this place. I think 2 to 3 hours needed to cover the entire area. Almost every cells were fulfilled. Really very worthy place. A good place for spending weekend. Remains closed on Friday.

FRIDAY CLOSED The ZOO in Assam was great, but nowadays it seems to be diminishing its valued day by day. On my recent visit to the zoo, I was unable to find any structured system except the bottle returning scheme. The e-carts are very irregular and the roads are very disturbing. The cages were broken and rusted, morever most of the animals were not available. I hope the govt of Assam will take necessary steps to "make the Zoo great again" Positive views can be seen as most of the parts were under construction.

Visited Assam State Zoo last weekend. Overall a good place to hang out if you love nature and animals. Lot of greenery inside and many animals like tiger, rhino, deer, bear, and different types of birds. The place is peaceful and good for families or friends. But honestly, some areas are not well maintained. Few animal cages looked old and water ponds were dirty in some spots. They should improve that part. Entry ticket is cheap — ₹30 per person, which is worth it. You can also take an electric cart if you don’t want to walk, but walking is better to enjoy the surroundings. Good for a one-time visit in Guwahati. If you’re coming from outside, keep at least 2 hours in hand. Would have given 5 stars if maintenance was better.

Directional signage at the entrance would make an important difference in visiting. All the fountains are in need of maintenance, and the stagnant needs to be removed. The museum has incredible displays provide great insight into Assam's history and diversity.

Beautiful places. We visited music section building only. Nearest place for good veg food is Shreekrishna resturant. Opposite to the museum is a bakery (don't eat samosa or drink tea it's crappy) and a momos shop (Darjeeling Momos). This momos shop is the best. Overall, satisfactory trip after Umananda. Opens till 7:45 PM and alcharges are 50 Rs per person.

I have never been to a worse place than this one. Each person must pay an entrance fee of 100 rupees. I paid 200 rupees to enter, and I was allowed to leave after 20 minutes. Because of how filthy this place is, nothing can be done here. I have never been to a worse place than this one. There aren't any benches or seating areas in the outdoors. I'm sitting in a room with a fan right now, and I asked the security guard to turn it on, but he said he didn't have any current. Why are they charging 100 rupees apiece for no reason? I'm quite dissatisfied with this place. drove for almost an hour and a half and got in for nothing with 200 rupees. Additionally, the security guard informed me that he was unable to return the 200 rupees when I asked for a refund. People came here to visit, so please don't take their money when you gave them nothing.

This has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. It was clearly not my day. I’m providing a live review to highlight how disappointing this establishment is. I arrived at the location—Lai Mou Toom—on June 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Despite its appealing name, the restaurant fails to meet even basic expectations. The air conditioning was non-functional, and the premises had a strong, unpleasant odor. The service was abysmal. We had not received our starters even by 2:00 PM. Asked for 'Thumps Up' but gave us 'Sprite' without ice, that too without even asking us. There was no sign of the main course. Upon inquiry, the staff repeatedly responded with nothing but “30 minutes more,” showing a complete lack of professionalism and responsibility. The surrounding park, cottages, and the overall facility are in a state of neglect. The place feels deserted and poorly maintained. I strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone visiting Guwahati. It is an emphatic NO from my side. Don't waste your time and money here. The menu is damn expensive with zero taste. PATHETIC

Went for the New Year Eve party. Located inside a village, ample parking space. The infrastructure and service was good. Food was average. Costing is reasonable. However the let down was the music and DJ. They brought a local DJ who doesn't know how to merge 2 different songs. Stops and plays songs abruptly just like playing on YouTube. The choice of music differs from people to people so won't comment on that but no announcement on the mike by DJ or emcee for the New Year party or no exciting countdown. Don Bosco museum offers many displays. It's multi floor building. It's a lot of knowledge and great collection of North East heritage. Most recommended place to visit in shillong. Entry fee to museum 100 /- for adults, 50/- for children upto 5th STD. Camera fee 100. There are 7 floors and last floor has sky walk. Amazing experience.

My wife and I visited the museum in Oct 2025. At first we were really concerned how we would be able to climb th 7 storeys but soon after entering a staff member kindly directed us to a lift that took us to the top sky walk and we could enjoy all floors (a MUST visit) strolling down. A men's or Ladies toilet on every single floor makes it Senior friendly. The collection is a comprehensive and superb one. We came back knowing a lot about all 7 North East (sister) States! Highly recommend a visit.

This is a must visit in Shillong with a ticket cost of just 20 rupees per head, I highly recommend to explore this place in order to understand the cultures and heritage of all the North Eastern States We went there with minimal knowledge and we got to experience most of the cultures. Also would recommend taking an option to click pictures. It’ll help you in making memories We took many pictures and had really fun at the view point as well. Spare at-least 2-3 hrs It’s air conditioned and well maintained, The staff is friendly too and there’s a store with lot of options to buy from.

It's a well maintained museum and the skywalk gives a vast panoramic view of the Shillong town. It's a must visit if you're in Shillong. The ticket is cheap with extra charges for mobiles and cameras. The museum beautifully showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Seven Sister states and one brother Sikkim. Each floor is dedicated to different aspects of tribal life, their belongings and how they manage their livelihood. One can understand the difference between the cultures of the seven states in a very lucid way.

The place is on the way to Mawphlang Sacred Forest. Approx 18km from Shillong. Its a nice spot. What all we can see and do 1. Entry fee - 100 per adult 2. 2 wheeler and 4 wheeler can be taken. 3. Refreshment and some locally made products can be bought from the shops at the entrance. 4. Three stage waterfalls is there. First is at the same level while for others you have to go down through stairs. 5. Garden on the other side of stage three water fall. 6. Bathing and Swimming is not at all allowed. 7. Average crowding.

Simple, accessible, but not a very “natural” waterfall experience Elephant Falls is one of the easiest tourist spots to visit in Shillong. The waterfall has three levels, but honestly, it doesn’t fully feel like a natural, untouched waterfall because of the heavy tourist infrastructure around it. Still, it’s pleasant and good for quick sightseeing. What to know: 1. It doesn’t look like a raw natural falls — more like a landscaped tourist spot. 2. It can be crowded at times, especially on weekends. 3. Toilets are available right before the entrance, which is convenient. 4. Tickets are minimal, good for budget travellers. 5. The steps are easy, well-maintained, and not tiring at all — suitable for all age groups.

This is a must go destination while travelling in Shillong. The local Khasi name of the falls is Ka Kshaid Lai, which literally means waterfalls with three stages. You can not see all three stages together but you have to go down through stairs to visit each stage ......all three stages are very beautiful. The largest one is the third and lowest stage. This area also have plenty of parking and good food options. Also good for buying souvenirs.

Elephant Falls is an okay-type waterfall - not particularly impressive compared to many others. I've seen far more beautiful waterfalls in Sikkim, and most of them don't even charge a visiting fee. Here, they take ₹100 per person just to enter, which feels unreasonable for what the place offers. On top of that, you need to pay for parking even if you leave your motorcycle on the roadside. Overall, the experience felt more like a money-making setup than a genuine tourist attraction.

Indeed an elephant, This elephant falls has 3 falls, first at the top, then the mid- layer and then you land to the bottom. You need to trek for 15-20mins, the stairs are proper so won't be a difficult trek, it would be total of 150-200 steps. If you plan to visit elephant falls, please wear proper shoe as sandals might slip, rest everything is perfect 🙂

Ward’s Lake in Shillong was my second travel destination, and I had a really peaceful and pleasant experience there. The park is quite large and spread across a big area. It is located right along the main road, so it’s easy to find. There is an entry ticket, and plastic bottles or any kind of plastic items are not allowed inside, which helps keep the place clean and eco-friendly. Inside the park, there are many trees, a big lake with a lot of fish, and small birds flying around. Visitors often feed the fish, and the overall atmosphere is very calm and close to nature. The park is well maintained. Cleaning staff are present and regularly keep the area clean. There is also a small section near a pool where you can rent traditional local dresses and take photos, which is a fun experience. A small café inside the park offers light snacks and drinks, so you can sit and relax for a while. This place is good for walking, relaxing, spending time in nature, and clicking photos. I would definitely recommend visiting it if you're in Shillong.

Wards Lake is a charming little escape in the heart of Shillong. The serene water, surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens and walking paths, makes it perfect for a peaceful stroll or just sitting quietly and soaking in the calm. The wooden bridge across the lake adds a lovely touch, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a few colorful fish swimming by. It’s not a place for adventure seekers, but if you appreciate quiet moments in nature, this spot won’t disappoint.

Dont worry photographer is also available if you want photos from camera but they will charge you for the photos. Must visit this place!!!

Such a Lovely place in the heart of Shillong. The lake is filled with natural beauty, such as beautiful flowers, trees, ducks,geese, pegions. The place get young and happening during cherry blossoms festival. But have to park the car bit far from the entry gate. And charges extra money for professional cameras.

It's a good place to get an aerial view of Shillong city. It was good. The cars are not allowed inside. You need to get the tickets, pass and id proof go inside after verified by the police. And they will provide you the car to go inside also.

Shillong Viewpoint at Laitkor Peak was a mixed experience for me. The view itself is absolutely breathtaking—you get a sweeping panorama of the city, the hills, and on a clear day it feels magical, almost like floating above the clouds. That part really lived up to the hype and made the visit memorable. What disappointed me, though, was how commercialized the whole place felt. Instead of focusing on showcasing culture or giving visitors a deeper experience of the region, everything seemed centered around selling things—photo ops in traditional Khasi attire, snacks, and trinkets. The charm of the natural setting gets a bit overshadowed by the push for money. Despite that, I can’t deny the beauty of the viewpoint itself. The scenery makes it worth a visit, but the experience could have been so much richer if it celebrated the culture as much as the view. For me, it’s a solid 4/5.

Best place to get a bird’s view of Shilong city. Its situated inside the Army camp. No private vehicles are allowed. Only local taxi from the tkt counter to be booked and they ll take you to this point.

The view point is about 1.3 Km from the main gate of Airforce Unit of Shillong. You can enjoy nature while seeing the Shillong view from the peak. The view can be watched in very binocular by paying extra Rs 20/ per person The traditional Khasi Attire are available for Rs 100/- per person and you can click photographs for cherishing the moments for the life time. The drive to Shillong Peak is equally stunning, with winding roads and forested paths leading you to the top. The military guards at the entrance are friendly, and the area is well-maintained. Be prepared for some light security checks since the peak is located within a restricted military zone. Overall, Shillong Peak is a must-visit for anyone coming to Meghalaya. The view is unmatched, and while the gunshots from the army training might catch you off guard, they don’t take away from the natural beauty of the place. Just a small quirk of the experience that adds to the uniqueness of your visit!

A beautiful forest is like nature’s own masterpiece — a world full of peace, mystery, and life. Sunlight filters gently through the leaves, painting the ground with golden patterns. The air feels fresh and alive, carrying the soft sounds of birds singing and leaves whispering in the breeze. Every tree stands tall and proud, each with a story to tell — of time, growth, and quiet strength. The forest is not just a place of beauty, but also of calm and wonder — a reminder that even in silence, life thrives in the most magical ways. 🌿✨ I am glad that I get a chance to visit. Guide was very nice and helpful.

Serene, clean and quiet. 1 hour drive from Shillong. This is the only one open to tourists out of several other sacred forests through out Meghalaya. A local community group manages the tourist visits. An entry fee (for each person and car extra) with guide fee is charged. The guides are actually local boys who take a group for a half n hour trail. The ground in front of the forest is do clean that it looks like outside India.

This is just outside shillong city, not so far. A sacred place for the local Khasi community. The place is dedicated to their god Labasa...they used to seek permission for hunting through animal sacrifice for Labasa. The walking trail is really beautiful.... someone have to take a guide to enter to the forest area, the guide will describe about the khasi traditions, history and the monoliths situated inside the forest. There are full and half trek options. The place is very serene and quiet. Someone must not take anything outside the forest, whether its leaves or stones or rudraksh or flowers.

How to reach - You can hire a taxi or a rented 2 wheeler to reach. We went on Sunday and got mix response from locals regarding shared taxi/sumo. So better don't hope for it. Renting two wheeler is a better option if you are experienced rider. Average renting starts nearly 800 for a scooty. Bargaining is based in your skills. Good view and peaceful, better you take food and have a quality time there. Entry is 30rs per person, 350rs guide (half trek) mandatory, parking for 2 wheeler is 20rs. The half trekking is almost 30-40 mins total in and out. Nothing allowed to take out. Rudraksh can be bought at the counter or better say from the guides help desk. At the end they ask to donate some money voluntarily but if you don't want to be asked to so better don't go to them 😜. Rest the guide will tell you about sacred forest. Nothing exciting but can be visited if you have time.

Really a great place... Feels amazing... Even though pouring water or milk is not allowed, water keeps on dripping in the Shivling from above. A must visit if you are devout worshipper of Shiva.

Om Namah Shivai . A must visit if you are in Mawsynram. Water automatically fall on the shiva Linga . Only few steps down to the cave . You can visit within 30 minutes . An entry fee of Rs 50/- per adult.

Naturally formed Shiv Linga in a far-off cave in Mawsynram. The place is quiet, peaceful and beautiful. There was no one else there when we visited. There is ticket for entering the caves. Water is dripping from the top just at the entrance of the cave. Loved the overall vibe here!

Shiv Mandir situated in Mawsynram, no Pooja or offerings are carried out here. Stalactite-stalagmite formation as Shiv Ling and water dripping naturally on top of it as dhara. GPS will take you to the correct spot and has a lot of parking space. Open 9am-4pm and minor entry & parking fees to be paid.

A huge with natural Shivlingam inside. There is an upside shivlingam too on the main one with water dropping from above. The cave towards the end look a little scarry though. One has to buy a ticket to visit it. It's near Mawsynram, the wettest place on the planet, so do visit here while a visit to Mawsynram.

The view of the beautiful dympep valley from the view point is breathtaking. Zip lining and bungee jumping is also available for tourists. A lot of local fruits are sold near the roadside and a few stores are also available. The weather is just perfect. I love how clean and green the environment is there.

I was visiting to Cherrapunji, and stopped at Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point .This spot offers a breathtaking panoramic view of lush green valleys that stretch as far as the eye can see. The scenery is incredibly green, peaceful, and perfect for nature lovers or photographers. Located conveniently on the way to Cherrapunji, it's easy to access, with a viewing platform that gives you an ideal vantage point over the vast, misty landscape. On clear days, the view is stunning, and during monsoon or foggy weather, it becomes mysteriously beautiful. There are also small stalls nearby offering snacks and local items, adding to the charm. If you're feeling adventurous, zip-lining is available but you have to go further

In one word: Heaven! En route to cherapunji, so no way you'll miss this location. This is basically a valley and it looks most beautiful when clouds fill in the valley. Then, it literally feels like you are in Heaven, floating above the clouds!! Very beautiful view point : )

Nice view. There were zip-lines available, and a waterfall if you walk down a little, though we dint try those.

The view point is beautiful. If you are on your way to Cherrapunji this point falls on the starting from shillong. If you book a Cherrapunji tour via MTDC this is their first stop. There is no entry fee till one point. If you want to hike and go more you have to pay. Taking photos and exploring for 10-15 mins is fine for this place.

Mawkdok Valley View Point Located 24 km from Cherrapunji and 30 km from Shillong. Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point is one such captivating destination. Stationed close to the Sohra tourism circuit, this area was recently taken up by Meghalaya Tourism Board for development, making it more accessible to explore. From this point, one can witness spectacular views of a swooping valley, formed by a group of lush hills on either side. It should be a must-visit in one’s visit list. Also known as Duwan Sing Syiem Bridge Viewpoint, it is one of the prominent places to visit in Cherrapunji. There is also a cafe opposite to the viewpoint where visitor can have lunch or Maggi. Also, there are few shops around where one can get pretty good stuff like wooden show pieces, sweaters, shawls, caps, etc. One can take photographs here by wearing the traditional Khasi Dresses. ***

I recently visited Laitlum Canyon, and it was truly one of the most wonderful experiences of my trip to Meghalaya. If you want to feel close to nature, this is the perfect place to visit. Many visitors bring their own food, and you can even cook or have a picnic while enjoying the cool breeze and stunning views. There are also a few small local shops near the parking area where you can buy tea, snacks, and refreshments, which adds to the charm of the place. Parking is available and costs ₹50 if you’re coming by car. The locals who manage the place are friendly and helpful, making the visit even more enjoyable. What I loved most about Laitlum Canyon is that it’s still less commercialized and peaceful, offering a raw and pure connection with nature. Visiting this beautiful valley was an unforgettable experience. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking — surrounded by majestic hills, lush greenery, and a river flowing peacefully through the heart of it. The fresh air and calm atmosphere made it the perfect escape from the noise of daily life. Every corner of the valley looked like a picture — from the blooming flowers to the distant mist-covered mountains. About 70/75 mins drive from Shillong. We were lucky with the weather, having gotten there early in the morning. Nice cool breeze blowing the mist over , giving us a wonderful view of the canyon / valley below. Grassy Knoll which makes for fantastic pictures. Uniqueness about this place was it combines a lovely view with the grassy meadows - two places in one ! Parking is quite good and pay and use washrooms. Some small shops close by with basic quick eats. Tickets are 20 per person and parking for cars is 50.

Visited Laitlum tourist spot located near to Shillong. It is about half an hour driving on less traffic days. A person comes to Shillong must visit this place in addition to Dawki, Mawsynrsram and Cheerapunjee. The authorities have maintain the place superbly like other tourist place in Meghalaya. One can enjoy family picnic here with parcels food. It is little windy so visitors are recommended to takeswarm cloth with them. I highly recommend all to visit this place, once in their lifetime.

Beautiful tourist destination in Meghalaya. Ensure that it is in your itinerary when you visit Meghalaya. Ample space for parking and enough area to move about. One of the best places for photography. When you reach the spot, the beauty of the place will force you to linger there for some time. Children will love it particularly. Though it is not as marvellous as the Grand Canyon in the USA, this is quite fine, with beautiful blue hills and deep valleys everywhere.

My visit to Laitlum Canyons was an absolutely unforgettable experience! I was completely mesmerized by the view from the moment I arrived. The name "Laitlum" (meaning "end of hills") is so fitting. The valleys are truly awesome; they are vast, sweeping, and stretch out as far as the eye can see, looking like a painting. Seeing the clouds roll through them is magical. I also loved the weather during my visit. It was so pleasant and fresh, which just made the entire experience perfect. Standing there, taking in that incredible scenery with the beautiful weather, was a moment of pure awe. I can't recommend visiting Laitlum Canyons enough. It’s a stunning piece of nature that truly captivates you and one of the best viewpoints I've ever seen.

This lake located near Jowai offers a peaceful vibe. Found the lake to be in a neglected condition due to lack of maintenance. It has the potential to become a major tourist attraction if properly maintained.

We visited the lake in the afternoon, and to be honest, it turned out to be quite an ordinary experience. The surroundings were calm and peaceful, but there wasn’t much activity or scenic charm to make it stand out. The water looked still and somewhat dull under the afternoon sun, and there were hardly any visitors around, which made the place feel rather deserted. While the quietness could appeal to someone seeking solitude, it lacked the liveliness or natural beauty one usually expects from a lake destination. Overall, it was a simple, average spot — pleasant but nothing particularly memorable.

Thadlaskein Lake, also Pung Sajar Nangli, is man-made historical Lake in Meghalaya, India. It is located beside National Highway 6 by the side of a small village called Mukhla village which falls under West Jaintia Hills district Jowai. It is about 58 kilometres (36 mi) from the city of Shillong.

Beautiful lake with historical background by the side of the Jowai bye pass. It is scenic and calm. Boating is also available.

Silent and big lake with some forest cover for locals to relax if the day is very hot at Jowai.Nothing much to do here that has cafe like structural view point on one side and few benches on the other sides.

Not very well maintained. May be due to corona. But nevertheless enchanting. The story of how it was made is both romantic and hair raising. I hope someone makes a film out of it someday. Thoroughly enjoyable visit.

One of the more unique water fall experiences ever. Walking through / surrounded by Paddy fields to the two tiered cascade. Went early in the morning so it was not much crowded . About 350 steps and a path one way down so it is not very tough but for a couple of sections on the way back when you get the sun on you. The water is so cool and you are tempted to get under the falls. Clean and well maintained and makes for amazing pictures. The air feels so fresh and sweet smelling thanks to all the vegetation. Shall be of the favourite parts of my Meghalaya visit. Best visited on your return trip from Dawki to Shillong if you plan it that way - along with Krang Suri falls and Narthiang.

Don't be misled that you would see fishes here. It's a sanctuary for fishes to flourish in the nearby river. You will get to see local life though : people fishing, betting on an archery game (am told this happens once in a while). It's a peaceful place. But if you are a tourist on a fixed schedule - you may want to avoid this. But if you are a wanderer like me - you would sit hours here doing nothing in the tranquility of the place.

Another place for the eyes to feast upon. It's a historic and scenic place in jowai. Do visit it.

Extremely serene and beautiful place. A little dam over a clear stream flowing in a wide valley amidst golden ripening rice fields. The landscape is further enhanced by tufts of swaying white kaash flowers. The hills are covered with conifers, through which the access road to the valley winds down. The only problem is - this place is accessed through a crowded Jowai town that has narrow winding roads, this being a hill town. The roads are one way most of the way, so watch out.

Grew up in this beautiful place called Jowai. So I am quite familiar with this river. After leaving and having seen much of the world around me, this is one place I would love to come back over and over again. Learnt fishing, swimming and outdoor cooking for picnics here. It's a good place to visit. A visit to Jowai without visiting syntu Ksiar is incomplete. I would pay anything for the crystal clear water, the lazy sun and the murmuring of the river.

Feels like home… but with better WiFi and a cooler owner I stayed here for a few days, and honestly, I’m starting to think I might just “accidentally” forget to leave. The house is so cozy it feels like it gives you a hug the moment you step in. Everything is spotless (seriously, I dropped a cookie on the floor and considered eating it—don’t judge 😅). And the owner? Absolute legend! Not only super helpful and kind, but also has a great sense of humor—basically part-time host, part-time stand-up comedian. They made sure I felt comfortable, guided me around like a local, and even shared stories that made me laugh harder than Netflix. If you’re looking for a place that’s safe, warm, and comes with free smiles, this is it. Just be careful—you might end up liking it so much that you’ll start calling it “home” too!

I stayed with my friends here for a night. Very neat, hassle free - clean homestay. This is the closest stay to the waterfall. I stayed in 5 different places in all 5 days of my Meghalaya trip, but Krangsuri homestay stood out. Food was amazing and host Youri speaks perfect English and so friendly! She helped us the next day being our guide to the waterfall and explained all the history of it! I recommend this homestay for families and also solo travelers! One homestay that I don’t mind going back again!!
