Points of Interest & Landmarks
On way to Thimpu from Paro Airport, this was our first stopover to see a historic landmark. Made of iron chain link, the suspension bridge over Pa Chhu river is nothing less than an engineering marvel, keeping in view that it was originally constructed way back in the early 15th century,on a difficult terrain. Besides admiring this engineering marvel, we just soaked ourseves in the breathtaking scenic beauty all around. A very nice place to click pictures.
Arun G — Google review
This was the very first sight we stopped at after landing in Bhutan—just a short drive from the airport. The Iron Chain Bridge near Tamchog Lhakhang instantly made me feel like I’d arrived somewhere truly different. You can’t cross it anymore, but even from the side, it’s impressive. The old iron links, the prayer flags, and the sound of the river below all add to the atmosphere. With the mountains rising all around, it was a perfect first glimpse of Bhutan’s mix of raw nature and deep tradition. A peaceful and scenic start to the journey.
Tibor — Google review
The bridge looks amazing while crossing the heavy-flowing river. The old traditional iron chain bridge is closed and preserved, showcasing Bhutan’s historic engineering and cultural heritage. Surrounded by stunning nature, with mountains and a nearby temple adding to the peaceful vibe, it’s a place worth visiting. A newly built bridge allows visitors to walk across to the other side and explore the area safely. The iron bridge is an iconic landmark of Paro and a must-see for those who love history, architecture, and nature together.
Geo G — Google review
Tachog Lhakhang Old Bridge is a historic iron chain suspension bridge in Bhutan, known for its beauty and exciting crossing experience. It was originally built by the 15th-century Tibetan saint and engineer Thangtong Gyalpo. The bridge sways gently over the Pa Chhu River, offering visitors both thrill and stunning views of the valley below. Across the bridge lies the Tachog Lhakhang Temple, a private monastery run by the descendants of its original builder. The temple holds ancient relics, including statues, manuscripts, and Gyalpo’s walking stick. Nearby, two old watchtowers stand at each end of the bridge, giving visitors a great view of the river and hills. The area, decorated with colorful prayer flags, is also a favorite spot for photography. Located along the Paro–Thimphu highway near Chhukha, the bridge is open to visitors daily, usually from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There’s no entry fee to cross the bridge, but access to the temple requires permission from the monks. The original 15th-century bridge was swept away by a flood in 1969, but it was rebuilt in 2005 using the old iron chains. Travelers often describe crossing the bridge as a peaceful and thrilling experience, surrounded by natural beauty and centuries of history.
Weaning P — Google review
This is a 16th century iron bridge which can't be used now. This place for sure worth a visit and you can spend sometime in the river bank.
Salai C — Google review
The Iron Bridge in Bhutan is a fascinating piece of history. It was built centuries ago by a great Bhutanese saint, Thangtong Gyalpo, and it’s amazing to see how strong and well-preserved it still is.
Eddy T — Google review
GLIPMSE OF THE HISTORICAL CHAIN-LINK SUSPENSION BRIDGE  600 year old iron chain suspension bridge of remarkable beauty, design and strength  The iron used in constructing the hand-forged links was exceptionally durable, allowing the bridge to survive until 1969  At the base of mountain enroute Paro, on the river  Peaceful ambience with stunning views  Rafting possibility in the river  Treat to see the rushing waters, and the majestic mountains
SURESH K — Google review
This monastery was built by Thang Tong Gyaipo, popularly known as The Iron Bridge Builder. He built 108 bridges across Tibet and Bhutan, out of which 8 were in Bhutan.

Sacred & Religious Sites
Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the fertility temple, is a 15th-century Buddhist monastery dedicated to Saint Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Madman. Pilgrims visit this auspicious site in hopes of conceiving a child, as it is believed to have fertility blessings. The temple is adorned with phallus symbols and features a statue of Lama Kunley along with a wooden phallus.
This is a neat little hilltop temple with a really interesting legend behind it. On your way to this temple, which is famous throughout Bhutan for its connection to fertility, you will see thousands of phalluses in storefront windows. Wooden phalluses in all sorts of sizes, painted in every color combination you can imagine, artwork, stuffed figurines, you name it. The temple itself is small and there isn't too much to see, but it is very lively and full of visitors, locals and foreigners. The surrounding rice fields and views of the surrounding valleys are also great. Definitely worth visiting.
Gunnar C — Google review
A short walk on a dirt trail through the fields leads you to this small hillside temple. While the temple itself is modest, the story behind it is truly one of a kind. It’s dedicated to the “Divine Madman,” a legendary figure known for his wild and unconventional teachings. Many locals and visitors come here to pray for fertility. The surrounding village, often nicknamed the “fertility village,” reflects this with colorful murals and quirky souvenirs. It’s an unusual but memorable stop—more for the story and local culture than for the architecture.
Tibor — Google review
🌸 Chimi Lhakhang — The Temple of Fertility and Blessings Located amidst the peaceful Punakha Valley, Chimi Lhakhang is one of Bhutan’s most unique and spiritually uplifting temples. Built in honor of Lama Drukpa Kunley, the “Divine Madman,” the temple radiates warmth, humor, and deep spiritual meaning. The walk through the rice fields to reach the temple is serene and scenic, offering a glimpse into village life. Inside, the calm atmosphere and colorful paintings tell stories of faith and joy. Many visitors come here seeking blessings for fertility, happiness, and good fortune.
Tshering D — Google review
The whole economy of this village revolves around this ancient fertility temple highly revered by the bhutanese people. You reach the parking lot through narrow village roads with rice fields on the way which then leads to souvenir shops selling phalluses. The temple is a 20minute walk from the parking lot. The wall murals inside the temple is beautiful.

🌸 Chimi Lhakhang – The Fertility Temple 📍 Location: Near Lobesa, Punakha District, Bhutan A truly unique and spiritually significant place in Bhutan. Known as the Fertility Temple, Chimi Lhakhang is dedicated to the “Divine Madman” Lama Drukpa Kunley, a revered yet unconventional Buddhist saint. Couples from around the world visit here to seek blessings for fertility and children. The walk to the temple is peaceful—about 20 minutes through lush paddy fields and a charming village with traditional Bhutanese houses. The temple itself is serene and surrounded by prayer wheels, and you might even get blessed with a wooden phallus by the monk—a tradition here! Whether you’re spiritual or just curious, it’s a must-visit for its blend of culture, history, and quirkiness.
Sidharth A — Google review
I saw few people skipping this place but i recommend the visit. The road to chimi lalhang is very scenic and easy, the temple itself is picturesque. You can seek blessings not only for the sole purpose of children, but you also have an option of checking whether rest of your prayers will get fulfilled or not by rolling the holy dices. Apart from that the view from the top is amazing. Just go for the view if nothing else. The market also offers good options for souvenirs.
Jhankruti B — Google review
A unique and spiritually powerful place to visit in Bhutan! Chimi Lakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple, is a modest yet deeply revered Buddhist temple surrounded by breathtaking views. The temple is world-renowned for its spiritual significance — countless visitors have shared heartfelt testimonials of being blessed with children after offering prayers here. The faith and belief among the locals and visitors alike are truly remarkable. The short hike to the temple is easy, scenic and offers some beautiful glimpses of rural Bhutan. The walk itself feels peaceful and grounding. Do note that the village surrounding the temple features phallic symbols painted on walls and sold as souvenirs — these are meant to symbolize fertility and protection. While it might feel a bit unusual or uncomfortable for very conservative visitors or families with young children, it’s an important and respected part of Bhutanese culture. Overall, Chimi Lakhang is not just a place of worship but a fascinating cultural and spiritual experience — a must-visit when in Punakha!

Gangtey Monastery

Mentioned on
1 list
Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Gangtey Monastery, a Nyingmapa Buddhist monastery established in 1613, boasts an elaborate facade and is situated atop a forested hill that overlooks the verdant Phobjikha valley. The complex includes the main goemba, housing for monks, a small guesthouse, and peripheral meditation centers.
This monastery shines as a gorgeous structure on a hilltop overlooking Phojibka Valley. Quite active with ~100 monks on site. The temple rooms dazzle like most in Bhutan and have some unique iconography. Still under restoration this lags a tad behind other Dzongs as far as a complete architectural spectacle but it’s well worth a visit during time in Gangtey. Enjoy crows perching in auspicious places or maybe even some of the black cranes who circle the monastery before their morning routine begins if arriving early enough.
Joshua N — Google review
Visiting Gantey Monastery in Bhutan was one of the most memorable experiences of my travels. Nestled in the serene Phobjikha Valley, the monastery stands as a beacon of Bhutanese spirituality and culture. Upon arriving, the first thing that struck me was the tranquility that enveloped the area. The air was crisp, and the sound of birds chirping added to the calm atmosphere.
Himalayan T — Google review
The monastery is very sacred and old. It is at the starting point of the valley. There is renovation work happening for last two years but does not have any obstructions due to that. Worth a visit. Unlike other places there is no entry fee for foreign tourists.
Arun G — Google review
We visited Gangtey Monastery early in the morning. The place was quiet, with only a few monks around, and the soft light made the traditional buildings look even more beautiful. The courtyard is wide and peaceful, surrounded by prayer wheels and detailed woodwork. It’s easy to explore and gives a nice glimpse into monastic life. After the visit, we continued straight onto the nearby Gangtey Nature Trail – a lovely and easy walk through fields and forest, with great valley views. A perfect combination of culture and nature in one stop.

🕊️ Gangtey Monastery — The Soul of Phobjikha Valley Perched gracefully on a hilltop overlooking the serene Phobjikha Valley, Gangtey Monastery is one of Bhutan’s most majestic and spiritually uplifting sites. The monastery’s traditional architecture, peaceful ambiance, and panoramic views of the valley below create an unforgettable experience. Watching the morning prayers echo through the mountains fills the heart with calm and devotion. Surrounded by misty hills and fluttering prayer flags, Gangtey Monastery beautifully reflects Bhutan’s deep spiritual heritage.
Tshering D — Google review
Visiting Gangtey Monastery in Bhutan was a transformative experience. Nestled in the picturesque Phobjikha Valley, this monastery offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The serene atmosphere is perfect for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The crisp mountain air and the sound of prayer flags fluttering in the wind create a peaceful environment that’s hard to find anywhere else. 🌄 The architecture of Gangtey Monastery is truly awe-inspiring. The intricate woodwork and vibrant paintings showcase the incredible craftsmanship of Bhutanese artisans. Walking through the courtyards and halls, you can feel the history and spirituality that permeate every corner. The monks were welcoming and took the time to share insights about their way of life and the significance of the monastery. 🏯 One of the highlights of my visit was witnessing a traditional Buddhist ceremony. The chanting of the monks, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of drums and horns, was a mesmerizing experience. It was a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Bhutanese culture and spirituality. For anyone planning a trip to Bhutan, Gangtey Monastery is an absolute must-visit destination. It’s a place that leaves a lasting impression on your heart and soul. 🙏

Located in Bhutan's beautiful Phobjikha Valley, Gangtey Monastery is a 17th century Buddhist monastery known for its stunning architecture. We were lucky to experience the chanting of monks just above the entrance. The place was flooded with locals offering their prayers so we got to experience their culture. We were also lucky to get blessed by the monks. It was a beautiful day for us.
Mallika J — Google review
This monastery is likely one of the last things you'll see before heading back to the Lawala Pass on your way back to Punakha (or to areas further east). It's a nice monastery with a lot of history, and it is quite busy and active with monks everywhere. As of March 2025 parts of the monastery were under construction and closed, but there was still enough open to make it worth a visit.

Phobjikha Valley is truly a gem of Bhutan. The vibe is amazing, and the views are absolutely mind-blowing—this valley has the power to steal both your eyes and your heart. Watching cows grazing peacefully, black-necked cranes in season, and a small river flowing gently through the valley creates a picture of pure serenity. A narrow road winds across the open fields, adding charm to the vast landscape surrounded by majestic mountains, drifting clouds, and golden sunlight during the day. With only a few houses scattered across the valley, it feels untouched and deeply calming. A must-visit for anyone seeking peace of mind, relaxation, and a connection with nature.

The valley is beautiful with scenic views and a jungle /forest trail. But the issue is accommodation very very basic and also availablity of vegetarian food is difficult .... Also, I'd suggest not opting for homestays at all. Hot water is not available. Also, the washroom facilities are below average

One of the most beautiful and scenic places in Bhutan. Lush green grasslands surrounded by mountains are so peaceful to be seen. It was monsoon season when we visited, it was foggy, cool breeze with light drizzle. If you visit here in November till spring season (March) you can see black necked cranes who migrate from Tibet during winter months. Also the valley is full of beautiful flowers during spring and summer season.
Tirth P — Google review
Beautiful valley, very clean air, and peaceful - a great place for relaxing and enjoying nature.
Norbert W — Google review
Absolutely beautiful and serene valley in Bhutan. It is a must visit. The short hike from Gangtey monastery was such a pleasant one surrounded by pine forests. The valley seems filled with the famous black neck cranes during the season from Oct mid till December however we didn't get an opportunity to get a sight of that. Beautiful U-shaped valley with lush green wetland pastures surrounded by mountains covered with woodland. Lovely walking trails which crisscross the valley. In the winter months the wetland is the home for the black necked cranes.A must visit place, the valley is like an amphitheater of nature. We visited the valley on our second trip of Bhutan in February 2020. Were lucky to spot the black necked cranes. The night was cold but the amiable and young staff of the valley camp made us comfortable, as we spent time in their warm and cosy dining hall, in front of a crackling fire. The view of the valley in the morning from the campsite will forever remain etched in my memory. Would have liked to explore more beyond the short drive we did up the hilly road into the woods. The crane sanctuary is a must visit if you come here.On the fourth day of our Bhutan adventure, we visited the picturesque Phobjikha Valley, known for its stunning natural beauty and serene landscapes. After enjoying a delightful lunch amidst the valley's tranquility, we proceeded to the historic Gangteng Monastery, a significant cultural and spiritual site in Bhutan. Watch our short video to experience the beauty of Phobjikha Valley and the rich heritage of Gangteng Monastery, and get travel tips for your visit.

Hajo Madhab Mandir is a must-visit destination for those seeking spiritual solace, cultural insights, and architectural marvels.
Shruti M — Google review
This temple is one of the ancient temples in India as well as Assam, a very beautiful place and surrounded by mother nature, and anyone can google about this temple if you want to know more about this temple. But my main concern is regarding the cleanliness and the pujari system. Immediately after parking people are asking for buying puja materials then after entering the temple pujaris are telling me to give money here and there and after coming out of the temple I visited the pond to see the turtle 🐢, and my goodness the pond was so dirty and full of algae. The temple authority should maintain the pond as well as the surroundings of the temple.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.it was build by the koch king Narnarayan dev. The inner sanctorum currently has medium sized carving of hayagriva or horse necked (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu) flanked by two smaller Vishnu idols on either side in the form of Jagannath,Vasudeva,Gorur pakshi. It is impressive and the hall has completely fallen down with ruins scattered everywhere and they have added modern wooden and tin sheet hall to the historic sanctum for completeness sake. The sculpture on the outer walls in the form of lively hayagreeva, rama lakshmana,Vishnu carried by Garuda flanked by lady helper assistants, warrior sitting on elephant fighting with lion, fading away astadikpala, damaged warrior on horse, depict of ramayan a, different types of devi form, immortal expressions of couple on makaram or crocodile chariot, few social themes of devotees and musicians, human Vishnu travelling on horse, white washed expressions of warrior couple and finally Narasimha removing the intestines of hiranyakasipu and his sad expression. The Vishnu puskar is pond lies front of the temple which is home to local fished of assam and very rare turtle species ( green soft turtle). Accoland is good place to enjoy with family and friends. Kids love this place. There is variety of ride for children. I recommend visit atleast 11 am before if you enjoy all ride. Right now entry ticket price is only ₹ 595 only (festival season maybe).

Been there last week after almost 7-8years. Had a amazing time.. Accoland offers a great variety of attractions including water parks, thrilling water slides (which were just wow) to unique features like the Magic Mirror House and 5D Virtual Travel that make the experience even more exciting. It's a perfect spot for a family outing, there's something for everyone to enjoy. While outside food isn’t allowed, there are restaurants inside that serve decent meals at reasonable prices, so that wasn’t a big issue. Entry tickets are priced at ₹840 for adults and ₹740 for children below 4ft 4inch, which felt a bit on the higher side. But overall, the fun and memories made it worth it. Highly recommended if you're looking for a day of fun, splash, and adventure near Guwahati!

Behaviour of staffUgh, this waterpark was a total letdown. The slides were okay, I guess, but the staff's attitude was genuinely awful. Seriously, I felt like I was inconveniencing them just by existing. Every interaction, from the locker rental guy to the lifeguard yelling at a kid (unnecessarily, I might add), was met with this bored, condescending glare. Zero enthusiasm, zero helpfulness, and frankly, just plain rude when we asked a simple question about where the lazy river started. They acted like they hated their jobs and wanted everyone to know it. If you want a fun day out, go somewhere where the employees don't treat the guests like they're a nuisance. Sort out your customer service, waterpark! The staff killed the vibe completely."

I had so much fun — the rides were exciting, the atmosphere was great, and it was a perfect day out with friends/family. The only downside was that the shower and changing area were overcrowded, which made things a bit inconvenient. Other than that, it was an awesome experience. Definitely worth a visit!

Water rides are excellent. But other rides needs revamp. No online option to book ticket in this age of tech is a downsides.

Accoland is a nice place to enjoy with family and friends. Lot of rides and around 4-5 different pools with so many slides etc. Anyone from 3-60 can easily enjoy there. But make sure not to take Large luggage with you as the locker provided would accommodate about the size of a school bag/laptop bag. Food is costly and feels like waste of money. If travelling by personal vehicle then it's fine orelse cabs and Auto charges way too much.

Deepor Beel, it's a haven for migratory birds, offering breathtaking views and a chance to connect with nature. However, its growing popularity as a picnic spot & nearby shops are polluting the area by throwing garbage, threatening the delicate ecosystem. It's a shame, as this beautiful wetland deserves protection, not pollution....

Perched atop Nilachal hill in Guwahati, Assam, India, the Maa Kamakhya Temple is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site dating back to the 7th century. It is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and is considered one of the most sacred places of pilgrimage in India. The temple is part of the 51 Shakti Peethas and holds great significance for both Hindus and Tantric worshipers.
Visiting Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati was a deeply spiritual and unforgettable experience. The temple, situated atop Nilachal Hill, offers a serene atmosphere with a breathtaking view of the Brahmaputra River. The energy and divine presence here are truly powerful, and one can instantly feel a sense of peace and devotion. The architecture is ancient and mesmerizing, with intricate carvings that reflect Assam’s rich heritage. The temple is well-managed, and despite the crowds, the darshan was smooth and organized. Local priests and volunteers were very helpful in guiding devotees. My experience of offering prayers and witnessing the rituals felt very pure and soulful. The surroundings are clean, with facilities available for devotees, and shops nearby for prasad and essentials. Kamakhya Temple is not just a place of worship but a sacred journey—one that connects you deeply with the divine mother. A must-visit for anyone traveling to Guwahati. Entry fees 500 waiting time is 4hrs aprx. Without entry fees cant visit the main sanctum sanctorum however one can have a sneak peak darshan from distance.

Maa Kamakhya Temple is a powerful and spiritually enriching place. It sits on Nilachal Hill and offers a beautiful view of Guwahati city. The atmosphere feels truly divine, and the temple architecture is unique. However, the crowd can be heavy, especially during mornings and festivals, so it's better to visit early. You can reach the temple by cab or shared auto from the main city. Despite the rush, the experience feels peaceful and memorable.

Visiting Maa Kamakhya Temple was a truly divine and unforgettable experience. The temple, perched atop the Nilachal Hill, offers not only a deeply spiritual atmosphere but also breathtaking views of Guwahati city and the Brahmaputra River. The energy around the temple is powerful and peaceful at the same time — you can genuinely feel the divine presence of Maa Kamakhya. The priests and temple staff are helpful and guide you through the rituals with devotion. Despite being a popular pilgrimage site, the surroundings are clean, organized, and well-managed. Whether you go for spiritual reasons or cultural exploration, this temple will leave you with a sense of peace and positivity. ⭐ 5/5 — A must-visit for anyone coming to Guwahati. Jai Maa Kamakhya!

It is better to purchase the VIP tickets online which opens 7 days before. It is being sold out immediately. Better to purchase at 12.01 am 7 days before. It costs Rs.500 per head. If you go by 7 am, you can come out in 2 hours after Darshan. Tuesdays and Saturdays, there will be huge rush. The temple is maintained privately, I believe. The most powerful Shakthi Peet. Must visit at least once.

Maa Kamakhya Temple” – The Devi Mahatmya : Digital Temple of ...The Kamakhya Temple is a sacred Hindu temple in Guwahati, Assam, dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, believed to be the spot where the goddess Sati's yoni (womb) fell. A significant center for tantric practices, the temple is most famous for its annual Ambubachi festival, which celebrates the goddess's feminine power and fertility.

🌺🙏🌺 জয় মা কামাখ্যা 🌺🙏🌺 One of the oldest sati pith among the 51st sati piths of the goddess Maa Parvati. The temple was situated on the Nilachal hills outside Guwahati City, Assam in Kamakhya Locality. The main temple was built in an ancient structure and some new structures were built later in front of the main temple 🙏 One can purchase VIP tickets for ₹ 500 per person to visit the গর্ভগৃহ... This was very much disgusting‼️ The temple management authority should take some appropriate actions to avoid this and open the main temple, গর্ভগৃহ, for all the devotees. They should also look at the cleanliness of the temple premises and queue management very seriously‼️

Visiting Maa Kamakhya was a journey of spiritual awakening. Nestled in Simanchal Hills in Assam it is one of the important shakipeeths. You can either get general ticket which is a bit costly or you can get VIP tickets which are available at ₹501. You can get VIP tickets online as well but you have to book it in advance at least a week ago as they sell very fast. The worship items are sold at shops located outside the temple and you can also keep your shoes here. It took us 13 hours to worship Maa Kamakhya but it was totally worth it.

Bhubaneswari Temple is a renowned Hindu temple located in Guwahati, Assam. Situated atop a hill near the city center, it offers a stunning panoramic view of Guwahati. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari and is a popular pilgrimage site.
"Bhubaneswari Mandir, perched atop Nilachal Hill, is a spiritual haven! I've had the privilege of visiting twice - first as a 9-year-old with my grandparents, and then 18 years later with my family in February 2025. The breathtaking view from the temple is simply divine. The serenity, the energy, and the connection to the goddess are palpable. Maa Bhubaneswari's grace and protection envelop me, and I feel at peace. The temple's scenic beauty adds to the spiritual experience. I'm grateful for the opportunity to worship and connect with the divine feminine. 🙏🏽❤️"

The Bhubaneswari temple, a white shrine, is perched atop a hill adjacent to the city. Dedicated to Goddess Bhubaneshwari, the temple is visited by large number of tourists from across the country every year. From the temple, views of sunset on the Brahamputra River are available. The temple is situated high upon a hill which takes a 20 minutes' walk from the bus stand.

Located near the Kamakhya Temple. PROS: 1. Spiritual Ambience & tranquil nature: The temple offers a peaceful space for worship and reflection. Since it’s not as crowded as nearby Kamakhya Temple, you can enjoy a more relaxed spiritual experience. 2. Scenic Views: It’s perched on Nilachal Hill, a little higher than Kamakhya. From the temple, you can get panoramic views of Guwahati city and the Brahmaputra River. Great for photo‑opportunity, taking in nature, especially around sunrise or sunset. 3. Easy to Combine with Kamakhya Visit: Because of its proximity, Bhubaneswari Temple is a must-visit as part of the Kamakhya‑temple tour. If you’re already making the trip up the hill, adding Bhubaneswari doesn’t take too much extra effort. 4. Good during Festivals: The temple becomes especially lively during Ambubachi, Navratri, Manasa Puja, etc. These times offer an immersive cultural and devotional experience. AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: 1. Attraction Value (for Tourists): If you’re going purely for architectural splendor or sightseeing, you might find Bhubaneswari less impressive compared to big temples. There’s less ornamentation, fewer facilities, fewer shops, etc. It may appeal more to those seeking calm or spiritual fulfilment than grand tourist appeal. 3. Steep/Stair Climb: There are stairs/paths up the hill. For elderly people or those with mobility issues, this could be a factor. Proper footwear, planning for rest, etc. help. 4. Crowds during Peak Times: During festivals or special days, there will be a lot more devotees. That means more waiting, more congestion. If you're sensitive to crowds, going during off‑peak hours helps. TIPS IF YOU WISH TO VISIT: • Go early morning or late afternoon for cooler weather, softer light, fewer people. • Wear modest clothing, comfortable shoes. • Carry water, perhaps some snack. Little shops nearby likely exist but always good to be self‑sufficient. • If visiting during a festival, plan ahead (accommodation, travel, timings). • Respect temple customs (e.g. removing shoes, dress code). MY OVERALL TAKE: If you like places that combine nature + spirituality + a calm setting, Bhubaneswari Temple is definitely worth a stop. It may not blow your mind if you're expecting huge ornate temples, but its charm is in its tranquility, views, and spiritual atmosphere. It’s a refreshing place in contrast to more “busy” temples.

it's alright, but could be so much better. compared to others, the show and virtual reality sets are not worth that much praise, but it wasn't a bad experience, either. the astronomy gallery was very well built and the ideas were amazing, but the maintenance is bad, leading to a lot of the displays being non-functional. most don't even enter the astronomy gallery since it's not easily visible and nobody points it out. two other plus points are 1. the air conditioning is used and is in good condition, and 2. there's a real (albeit small) meteorite on display. by the way, if you're planning on going,, keep in mind that they only allow you to get tickets 10 minutes before a show starts. so for example, for a 4 pm show, you could only get tickets from 3:50 pm onwards

It was my second day of exploring Guwahati and I was returning from Navagraha Temple and saw the Jorpukhuri Pond and was on my way to this temple. It took some time to walk without any breaks. This temple is located on the western side of the Jorpukhuri pond. It was built by the Ahom king Shiva Singh in 1725 and it is considered as one of the most important pilgrimage. While the pind serves as a tank to fulfill the requirement for water at the temple. With time, there were a number of renovations and modifications done at the premises due to the unprecedented natural calamities. Goddess Ugra Tara is the official deity of this temple. Navaratri is one of the main festivals which is celebrated joyfully in this temple. There are lots of devotees who visit here to pray and seek the blessings of the goddess. Moreover the temple is really beautiful and is red colored. It has really been maintained and well taken care of. There were also a good number of swans which roamed around the temple. But I didn't like a thing and that was an old man which I guess was a person who takes care of the temple, was beating the swans with a cane to scare the birds away from coming around the temple. Overall, it was a nice experience in witnessing a temple with such a rich culture and heritage around it. ~12th May, 2023

Nestled in the vibrant Uzan Bazaar of Guwahati, The Maati Centre is a remarkable initiative led by Pabitra Lama Sarmah and her husband, Rishi Raj Sarmah. This unique project aims to uplift local artisans from charitable organizations like Tihar Jail and Dastkar Ranthambore by showcasing their exceptional craftsmanship.
It's beautiful and a quaint place to see the various craft and craft traditions of north-east India. They have a good assorted collection of baskets, fabrics, books, furnishing, preserves and souvenirs. The items are priced reasonably for the effort put in for making the intricate work. They kept the store open past 7PM for me to shop. I would have liked that the staff knew a little bit more about the craft practices and people to enrich and make the experience educational. Kudos to the teams for building a much needed space.

Hriday D — Google review
MAATI was vibrant and diverse as usual, maintaining (sometime with difficulty) the core values of what Assam means, and how it is a rare example of trying to keep the flag of diversity flying against many forces. In that very context it was by sheer luck that our visit coincided with a sort of festive, pre-christmas fete being held in its small courtyard. When I asked the founder (and mover of MAATI) about it, he simply said: just some young people having fun. Nice. That's how it should be. And ought to be. The difference from my last visit, which was in 2018, I think, was a wider collection of textile from all over the northeast, earlier it was more art centred ( in the traditional sense of the word art). My suggestion would be to keep the price tag on some of the items, for example, the ones by some other agencies, NGOs, should be kept on a check (e.g. each of the Little Naga collection costs 1500/-, if I remember correctly) -- the idea is not to give the impression that it's exclusive and elite, but rather that MAATI is meant as a forum that is inclusive, and it stands for a place not just to visit and procure, but to learn and to feel safe.

Awesome place preserving historical sculptures and all. The Assam State Museum, located near Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati, is a cultural treasure trove that beautifully showcases the rich heritage of Assam and Northeast India. I visited recently and was captivated by its extensive collection of artifacts, spanning prehistoric times to the modern era. The museum, established in 1940 by the Kamarupa Anusandhan Samiti and taken over by the Assam Government in 1953, features well-organized galleries, including Epigraphy, Sculptures, Numismatics, and Anthropology. Standouts include the 10th-century stone Nataraja statue, Ahom and Mughal coins, and reconstructed tribal huts that vividly depict Assam’s diverse traditions. The library, with its rare manuscripts and journals, is a hidden gem for history buffs. The museum is clean, well-maintained, and centrally located, just a 10-minute walk from Guwahati Railway Station. However, the extra photography fee (INR 10) feels unnecessary, and more detailed signage for exhibits would enhance the experience. A must-visit for anyone eager to explore Assam’s vibrant history and culture!

Visited the Assam State Museum recently. The entry ticket is quite affordable at just ₹33, but it can only be purchased online — no cash option available. There's an additional ₹33 charge if you want to take photos. Unfortunately, most of the museum is currently under renovation. We were only able to visit 2 or 3 sections. The areas that were open had some really impressive and well-maintained ancient collections, which gave a glimpse into Assam’s rich heritage. However, the overall experience was limited due to the ongoing work. Would recommend visiting after renovations are completed for a fuller experience.

It is one of the State of the art Museum of Assam. History of Assam is represented here. Life of normal people is also represented very well by showcasing sculptures, Old houses, Musical instruments, eatables items, clothes, etc. The Museum is well managed, thanks to the workers here.

The Assam State Museum is one of the best places in Guwahati to explore the rich cultural, historical, and artistic heritage of Assam and the Northeast. Located conveniently near Dighalipukhuri, the museum is well-maintained and easily accessible. The museum houses an impressive collection — from ancient sculptures, coins, and manuscripts to tribal artifacts, textiles, and traditional tools. The ethnographic and sculpture sections are particularly fascinating, offering a detailed glimpse into Assam’s tribal culture and artistic excellence. It’s a wonderful place for anyone who wants to understand the deep cultural roots of this region. However, there are a few areas that need improvement. There is no official guide or audio guide system to help visitors understand the exhibits, which makes it difficult for outsiders to grasp the full context of the displays. Also, the rules about photography are confusing — some staff say mobile photography is allowed, while others strictly prohibit it, which can be frustrating. Another disappointing part was the attitude of the volunteer staff assigned to assist visitors. Instead of being welcoming and informative, some of them were quite rude and unhelpful, which spoiled the overall experience a bit. Despite these issues, the museum remains a must-visit for anyone interested in Assam’s art, culture, and history. The entry fee is affordable, and the atmosphere inside is peaceful, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace. Pros: Rich and diverse collection, calm environment, affordable entry fee Cons: No guide or audio guide, unclear photography rules, rude volunteers, some outdated display information

It is amazing experience to visit Assam State Museum, though the museum is small but it is enriched with some very rare artefacts. It is just opposite of Dighalipukuri lake. It was established in 1940 and later took over by Assam Government in the year 1953. Some very rare sculptures are kept in this museum. You must visit the boat section where a large wooden boat is kept and secured properly. You can see the ahom king's dress, various Assamese textiles are displayed too. I saw a very rare durga idol whose photo is attached in this post. I found it very different than other durga idols seen in other place. It will take approx 2-3 hours to see all the artefacts in the museum. The museum remains open 06 days from 10:00am – 5:00pm during summers and from 10:00am – 4:30pm during winters except on Mondays; 2nd and 4th Saturday and Government Holidays.

Navagraha Temple

Nestled atop Chitrasal Hill in Guwahati, Assam, the Navagraha Temple stands as a revered pilgrimage destination dedicated to the nine celestial bodies of Hindu astrology. This ancient temple not only serves as a spiritual haven for devotees seeking astrological balance but also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding cityscape.
Perched atop the serene Chitrachal Hill in Guwahati, the beautiful Navagraha Temple isn’t just another ancient shrine — it’s the kind of place where time slows down, your phone signal weakens, and you finally hear the stars whispering. Or maybe that’s just the wind whistling through the banyan trees. Either way, it's magical. Built in the 18th century by the then Ahom King Rajeswar Singha, this temple is dedicated to the nine celestial influencers — the Navagrahas — who, according to the Hindu astrology, play cosmic chess with our destinies. From the fiery Mars (Mangala) to the mystical Rahu and Ketu, each "graha" has its own seat inside, represented by nine Shivalingas, each covered with a colored cloth to denote its corresponding planet. No flashy LED lights or loudspeakers — just stone, silence, and spirituality. Fascinating Bits That Are Truly Out of This World: - The temple is also called "The Temple of Nine Planets" (obviously!) and was once a center for astronomical and astrological studies, housing scholars who observed the stars long before Google Sky. - Though dedicated to the Navagrahas, the main deity is Lord Shiva, linking the temple to both cosmic science and spiritual strength. - The original dome was partially damaged by an earthquake in the late 19th century but was later restored by local devotees and the Assam government. - From its hilltop perch, the temple offers a panoramic view of the Guwahati city and the mighty Brahmaputra River — ideal for those deep, Instagram-worthy "soul searching" shots. Cosmic Reflection: A visit to the Navagraha Temple is like stepping into the quiet heart of the universe — with just the right blend of mythology, astrology, and mysticism. Whether you’re appeasing Saturn or simply climbing the hill for that peace of mind your therapist suggested, you’ll leave a tad lighter (and not just from the climb). Final Verdict: Less tourist trap, more soul map. A divine spot where earth meets the stars — and your horoscope finally makes sense.

If you truly want to experience Guwahati, this place is it. Located on top of a hill, this Temple gives you a panoramic view of the city on one side and the Brahmaputra river on the other. North Guwahati is clearly visible from here as well. The road up is steep but nothing too bad like all those years ago when it was a challenge to get to this Temple. One thing to note: be careful of the monkeys!

I recently visited Navagraha Temple, located on top of Navagraha Hill in Guwahati, and it was a truly peaceful and divine experience. The temple is dedicated to the nine celestial planets (Navagrahas), and each one is represented by a Shiva Linga. The spiritual energy here is very calming, and the chants and atmosphere make it a special place to visit. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful — you get a clear view of the city and the Brahmaputra River, especially during sunrise or sunset. The walk or drive uphill is smooth, and there’s a calm vibe all around. I also saw many people offering puja to reduce the negative effects of certain planets in their horoscopes. There’s no entry fee, and you can buy flowers, diyas, and offerings just outside the temple. It’s well-maintained and clean. I’d definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting Guwahati — whether for spiritual reasons or just for the scenic beauty. 🛕✨🙏

The Navagraha Temple, meaning “Temple of the Nine Celestial Bodies”, is one of the most important and ancient temples in Assam. It is dedicated to the Navagrahas (Nine Planets in Hindu mythology) and plays a major role in astrological and spiritual traditions. Built in the 18th century by Ahom King Rajeswar Singha, the temple is not just a religious site but also an important center of ancient astronomical study. --- Religious & Astrological Significance: The temple houses nine Shivalingas, each symbolizing one of the Navagrahas (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu). Each Linga is covered with a colored cloth representing the corresponding planet. The Sun God (Surya) is considered the presiding deity of the temple. Devotees come here to neutralize malefic effects of certain planets in their horoscope through rituals and offerings. --- Architecture & Atmosphere: The temple is built in traditional Ahom-style architecture using brick and stone. It has a red domed roof typical of Assamese temples, with a central sanctum housing the Navagraha deities. Though damaged in the 1897 earthquake, parts of the original structure remain, and the temple continues to exude an ancient, sacred aura. The view from the hilltop location is mesmerizing, offering a peaceful panorama of the Brahmaputra River and the cityscape of Guwahati. --- Spiritual Experience: The temple is often filled with the chanting of mantras and rituals by priests performing Navagraha puja. Many astrologers and pandits sit outside the temple, offering horoscope readings and remedies. A serene, spiritual energy fills the atmosphere, especially in the early morning hours. --- It's a popular pilgrimage site for those seeking astrological remedies or blessings from the planetary deities. The temple is particularly crowded on Sundays and during eclipses, believed to be astrologically powerful times. Both locals and tourists visit for religious, cultural, and even educational purposes. --- Rich in spiritual and astrological significance Panoramic view from the hill Calm and peaceful surroundings Historical and cultural importance The stairs up the hill might be tiring for some elderly visitors. Surrounding infrastructure could be better maintained. Can be crowded during peak times and religious festivals. Best time to visit: Early morning or around sunset Carry water and wear comfortable shoes for the climb. If interested in astrology, consult a temple priest or pandit for a personalized puja or planetary remedy. Don’t miss the panoramic view of the city from the temple. The Navagraha Temple is more than just a place of worship — it's a blend of mythology, astrology, history, and peace. Whether you are a believer, a spiritual seeker, or a traveler interested in cultural heritage, this temple is a must-visit destination in Guwahati.

World's only temple for 9 planets (Navagraha). It holds history and dates back to the mighty Ahom kings. It has 9 shiva linga shaped statues for every graha. And, people can offer prayer to any of the graha as per their horoscope.

Navagraha Mandir Guwahati Assam Located on Navagraha Pahar or Chitrachal Pahar in Guwahati. A very old temple and most probably was renovated/rebuilt by Raja Rajeswar Singha. It was damaged due to earthquake in 1837. The inscriptions show the nine planets holding the Sun. Daily puja is carried out. People perform Yagna here. Navagraha Mandir is around 3.1 km from Guwahati Rail Station. A beautiful view of the Guwahati City and Bhrahmaputra river can be observed from there. ****

The Navagraha Temple is dedicated to the nine celestial bodies (Navagrahas) in Hindu astrology. It's a unique and important pilgrimage site. The best time to visit the Navagraha Temple is during the winter months, from October to March. The nine Shiva Lingas, each representing a planet and adorned with specific colored cloths, offer a visually distinct and meaningful representation of the Navagrahas.Perched atop the Chitrasal Hill, the temple offers a peaceful and calming spiritual atmosphere. The climb up the hill adds to the sense of pilgrimage. From the temple premises, you are treated to beautiful panoramic views of Guwahati city and the majestic Brahmaputra River. This makes for a picturesque backdrop, especially during sunrise and sunset, when the sky can be quite mesmerizing. The lush greenery around the temple adds to its charm and provides a sense of tranquility away from the city's hustle and bustle. While you should be cautious, the presence of playful monkeys can add a lively touch to the surroundings, entertaining visitors. The blend of ancient traditions, the spiritual energy, and the natural beauty creates an unforgettable experience. The scent of incense and the sounds of chanting contribute to a truly immersive spiritual environment. The Navagraha Temple in Guwahati may not boast the intricate sculptures of some grander temples, but its beauty lies in its unique astrological significance, its serene hilltop setting offering breathtaking views, and its historical simplicity that evokes a deep sense of peace and spiritual connection. It's a place where history, astronomy, and devotion intertwine beautifully.

Located in the Silpukhuri area of Guwahati, Assam, the Guwahati War Cemetery is a burial ground situated 2.5 km away from Guwahati Railway Station. It is considered one of the significant historical sites in Assam and is highly recommended for visitors to explore. Initially established during World War II as a final resting place for military hospital patients, it later became a repository for additional graves managed by the Army Graves Service.
I visited this place on the second day of exploring Guwahati. The place wasn't hard to find, I reached Silpukhuri by bus and had to walk only a few steps to get there. It is situated in one of the prime locations of the city. One of the most notable things I would say was well to do maintenance that has been done in this place. The place is quiet and peaceful. One can spend time here in the summers as the wind brushes off your face which feels nice and cool. There were lots of flowers there which were pretty to look at. Moreover while walking I was able to see the names of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Second world war and was able to sense the historical significance linked to this place. Therefore it was a nice experience to remember. ~12th May, 2023

This is a well maintained cemetery relating to be the Second World War (1939-1945). Here lies buried around 500 personals from the army and airforce who lost their lives during the war. A visit to this cemetery makes one realize the negative effects of a war which leads to the loss of life.

Resting place of World WarII brave soldiers. This place have historical significance but least known. Take a walk along the graves of those brave hearts who sacrificed their life for the country. With soldiers as young as 22 years being martyred here you will feel weak at heart. The place is well groomed with lush green grasses and beautiful flowers. It's very peaceful and calm. One can spend a hot summer day here in the shades of the huge trees around.

The Cemetery was started during the Second World War for burials from the several military hospitals posted in the area. Later, other graves were brought in by the Army Graves Service. There are now 486 Commonwealth servicemen of the Second World War buried or commemorated in this cemetery. Of these, 25 burials are unidentified. The cemetery also contains 24 Chinese war graves, and two non-war graves. The place is quite peaceful and beautiful.

Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple, located in the tranquil outskirts of Guwahati, is a stunning replica of the renowned Tirupati Venkateswara Temple. This Hindu temple showcases traditional South Indian architecture with its gopurams and vibrant sculptures. Dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, it features intricate carvings and a golden dhwaja stambha, creating an enchanting atmosphere for devotion.
This temple is a beautiful and peaceful place built over a spacious area. The South Indian–style architecture looks fantastic, and the temple complex is very well maintained. The inner garden is beautifully kept, adding to the serenity of the place. There’s a large parking area outside. Before entering the temple, visitors need to wash their hands and feet, and there’s a dedicated shoe deposit counter as well. Inside, there are several smaller temples dedicated to different deities. The crowd is usually light in the morning but increases after noon. There’s also a prasad counter outside where you can buy offerings. If you’re in town, this temple is a must-visit for its divine atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.

My visit to Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple was a truly divine experience. Located in the serene surroundings of Guwahati, this temple is a beautiful replica of the famous Tirupati Balaji Temple of Andhra Pradesh. The architecture is grand and detailed, reflecting traditional South Indian temple design with intricate carvings and a peaceful ambiance. The moment I entered the temple premises, the calm environment and the chants of Lord Balaji’s name created a spiritual atmosphere. The temple is well-maintained and very clean. The priests are polite and help guide visitors through the rituals. There’s also a separate section for other deities like Lord Ganesha and Goddess Padmavati. The best time to visit is in the morning or evening during the aarti, when the entire temple glows beautifully with lamps and devotional music. Parking facilities and basic amenities are available for visitors, making it a convenient stop for families and pilgrims. Overall, Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple is not just a place of worship but also a perfect spot to find peace and connect spiritually amidst nature. A must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Guwahati.
Subha K — Google review
This temple is worth visiting if you are traveling to Guwahati, Assam. It serves as a good option in the region (Assam/Northeast) for devotees of Balaji / South‑Indian style Vishnu worship, without having to travel to Tirupati. PROS: 1. ARCHITECTURE OF THE TEMPLE: The architecture is truly gorgeous: it follows the South‑Indian (Dravidian) style, with a white‑granite facade, tall gopuram (entrance tower) and well‑carved pillars. 2. AMBIENCE AND MAINTENANCE: Both the ambience and maintenance are good: The temple grounds are clean, the landscaping is nice, and the overall environment is peaceful. 3. GOOD FACILITIES: There’s ample parking, gardens or open spaces around for families or for spending some time beyond just “darshan”. 4. RITUALS & SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE: The main deity (Lord Venkateswara/“Balaji”) is carved from a single stone of ~4 tons as reported, giving it a sense of grandeur. CONS: 1. PHOTOGRAPHY IS RESTRICTED: Photography inside the temple is restricted / not allowed in certain areas. In my opinion, this is a good restriction since people nowadays are more into taking photos rather than actually 'see'ing and experiencing the place as a whole. 2. CROWDS: At peak times (weekends, festivals) it can get crowded — though the crowding is manageable because the grounds are large. OVERALL VERDICT: This temple is worth visiting, especially if you are in or around Guwahati (Assam) and looking for a spiritually significant, well‑maintained temple dedicated to Lord Balaji / Venkateswara with South Indian architectural flavour. It offers a good blend of devotion + comfortable facilities. It may not feel as remote or “ancient” as some very old temples in hill‑locations, but for its location and style it delivers strongly. PRACTICAL TIPS: • Try to go in the morning or early in the afternoon to avoid most of the crowd. • Wear modest clothing; since the architectural style is South Indian and the setting formal, it’s better to be respectful in attire. • Be aware of the “no photography” rule inside the main sanctum/temple — you can probably take pictures of the exterior and gardens. •If you’re travelling by your own vehicle, parking seems available and convenient. • Spend a little extra time in the gardens/grounds if you like a quieter reflection; the open space is definitely a plus. • Check the timing of the aarti/puja if you wish to attend it — the aarti adds to the experience.

The Balaji Temple in Guwahati, often called "Purva Tirupati," is a striking and serene South Indian-style temple that feels like a piece of Tirupati transported to the Northeast. It's dedicated to Lord Venkateswara and immediately impresses with its towering, pristine white gopuram (entrance tower) and intricate carvings that tell stories of devotion. Inside, you'll find a grand idol of Lord Balaji, carved from a single, massive stone, along with shrines for Goddess Padmavati and Garuda. The overall atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and spiritual, a welcome escape from the city's hustle. Beyond being a place of worship, it's also an architectural marvel, especially when lit up at night, and often hosts cultural events. It really stands out for its blend of sacred tradition and impressive craftsmanship, making it a significant spiritual and visual landmark.
Priyanka S — Google review
If someone ever told you that to meet Lord Venkateswara you need to climb the hills of Tirumala and brave an ocean of devotees — hold your bells! Because nestled quietly in the green lap of Betkuchi, Guwahati, the majestic Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple offers all the South Indian serenity and sacredness, without needing you to pack your trekking shoes. This pristine white marble marvel, inaugurated in 1998, feels like someone hand-carried a slice of Tamil Nadu and lovingly placed it in Assam’s cultural thali. The architecture is authentically Dravidian, the priests speak fluent Tamil and Sanskrit, and the overall vibe is — how do we say it — divine, with a side of filter coffee soulfulness. Facts That’ll Make You Go “Oh Wow” (Or at Least Nod Thoughtfully) - Built by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and funded largely by devotees and temple trusts, it serves as a spiritual and cultural bridge between South and Northeast India. - The main deity, Lord Venkateswara (Balaji), is flanked by shrines dedicated to Padmavathi Devi and Garuda, his eternal wingman (literally). - The temple is adorned with intricate granite carvings and South Indian-style gopurams, making it Instagram-worthy even if you're not religious. - A community hall and meditation centre nearby offer both spiritual nourishment and spaces for events, yoga, and discourses. Why It's Totally Worth Your Time (and Pranam) - The temple isn’t just a place of worship — it’s a peaceful escape from the noisy world, ideal for soul-searching or simply soul-soothing. - Evening aarti here is a spectacle — chants, lamps, and that surreal sense of “all-is-well” washing over you. - Entry is free, and the crowd is usually well-behaved — making it senior-citizen and family friendly. Reflections: If you ever find yourself in Guwahati needing a spiritual recharge — or just an hour away from traffic and tapori music — this temple delivers tranquility in temple bell-sized doses. Final Verdict: A pocket of peace and piety in Assam that feels like a divine southern detour. You don’t need Google Maps to find peace here — just a little faith.

As a parent, I take pride in Sarusajai Stadium, which has been a great asset to our community since I enrolled my child three years ago. The spaciousness, variety of sports, and cultural events provide valuable opportunities for children. However, improvements are needed: the restrooms can be unsanitary, seating is often insufficient during busy periods, and the food stalls could offer a wider variety of options. On a positive note, the well-maintained roadside dustbins contribute to cleanliness. I rate Sarusajai Stadium five stars, acknowledging its importance for Assam and Northeast India while hoping for enhancements in cleanliness and facilities to create an even more welcoming family experience.

It was a moderate experience after getting into the stadium. Although it looks stunning from outside, yet a lot of work have to be completed inside. Chairs have been damaged, stairs are slippery, the grass beside the track are not trimmed. Sometimes it looks like an abandoned place. Also, players' dressing rooms are not so clean and gutka spitting stains could be seen here & there. The government & Assam sports association must take some steps to get the stadium better.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is a truly delightful destination for nature lovers. Famous for its one-horned rhinoceroses, it also offers sightings of wild boars, buffaloes, deer, and a vibrant variety of birds. It's a serene, lush retreat that's perfect for anyone who enjoys wildlife and the tranquility of nature. Beyond the rhinos, the sanctuary is teeming with diverse wildlife, including wild boars, Asiatic buffaloes, barking deer, and leopards, though the latter are more elusive. Pobitora is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to over 200 species of resident and migratory birds. During the winter months, flocks of migratory birds from Central Asia descend upon its wetlands, creating a spectacular sight for visitors. The sanctuary is surrounded by picturesque villages and lush greenery, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle of city life. Jeep safaris and elephant rides are popular ways to explore the park, and guided tours provide deeper insights into the flora, fauna, and conservation efforts in the area. Whether you're a wildlife photographer, a bird lover, or simply someone seeking peace amidst nature, Pobitora offers a refreshing and memorable experience.
