High-elevation tea estate offering panoramic mountain views, tours of a 1930s factory & a shop.
Such a heavenly place it is. Nice visiting in this tea garden. The view from here are stunning. Although you can visit here anytime but the best time would be in summer and winter. If you are a mountain lover and like to visit hill stations Munnar is the place for you. You would need to spend at least two days here to enjoy and witness every scenic beauty here.
VIVEK J — Google review
This place offers the best trekking through tea plantations. Can be reached by jeeps as well. Best views on the top. I visited to view the neelakurinji, the blue flowers covering the whole mountains. Heaven on earth. Worth the whole day outing, enjoying the nature's true self. The view from top is mesmerizing. We get to visit a tea factory in the middle where the whole process of tea making can be seen. The top view point has the lions face rock which holds 300° view of the valley. One great place to visit.

Oh my god ! That's what you'll constantly scream while watching the view in multiple places. You will be in an constant awe with the whole trip. There are many spots to spend entire day - Carmelgiri botanical garden, elephant park, tea museum, echo point, maddupetty dam, kundala dam, top station, hydel park, spices county and many other places for trekking and sightseeing. Waterfalls with good view and atmosphere will make give you a peaceful and positive attitude towards everything. Excellent places for photo shoots and breathtaking views with exceptional people of kerala and tamil people are too friendly for everything. Kanan devan group of companies have a tea museum running in the town of munnar, history of tea leaves and the process of manufacturing, production and packaging is explained in detail for every visitor with patience. You can get varieties of tea powder in discount prices at the museum.
Dayal D — Google review
This place is definitely worth visiting! As others I paid 2000 Rs for jeep. The driver didn't let to share jeep with others because I was foreigner. I didn't like going up to the mountain with jeep and I wouldn't go there again in this way. The shaking was terrible! I felt it was bad for all of my body. I refused to go down the mountain with jeep. And I went by feet. I didn't regret. It is really nice road to go on feet! A little bit slippery. But I could enjoy wonderful views, feel the mountain and all plantation, to say hi to the local people working there. I spend about two hours and a half to go down. So I recommend to go with the jeep till the off road starts and then go by feet. Of course you will spend more time but you will avoid that unpleasant experience to be shaked.
Eglė V — Google review
An awesome place near Munnar. It's a very best place for those who loves greenery, rocky terrain, , adventure and very beautiful scenery of Tea estates . It would be more spectacular after monsoon. This is also one of the highest tea estate offers amazing views of the tea gardens, probably the best in Munnar. You can hire a jeep to climb the hills through the off road track inside the Tea estates.
Rishin — Google review
Kolukkumalai one of the best seen place in kerala . Kolukkumalai is famous for the sunrise , mist , the moutains and the jeep trekking. The sunrise view was spectacular ,feels like in heaven surrounded by the mighty mist make that feel. The vibe was so good because the hill was situated around 7000 ft from sea level . Another attraction was the singapara ( lion shaped rock) . The one and half hour jeep safari especially off-road ride to kolukkumalai was a must experienced one , hatsoff to the driver . During the ride the tea plantation view and mountain view were eyecatching . We can only go through the alloted jeep service , no private vehicles alloted. Please dont spoil nature by throwing plastics. For kolukkumalai package or related stuffs ,u can ping me.

Nature preserve
Eravikulam National Park, located in Munnar, Kerala, is a scenic natural area known for its lush greenery and breathtaking views of the Western Ghats. The park is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and offers well-maintained trails and guided tours for visitors to immerse themselves in the rich biodiversity of the region.
Eravikulam national park in one the best national parks available in Kerala, it is famous for the Nilgiri Tahr. It is one of the endangered species of goat which only available here. The parking is available but will be full if you are late . So start early and reach early. Ticket for Indian is Rs 200. They don't accept cash, card or UPI. Your phone will not have network but you can use the local Wifi available inside. From the entrance they have bushes which will take you to the top of the hill. It is a different world altogether. Mostly it will be Misty, but sighting is on your luck. Once the bus drops you, you will have to walk around and the trail is for about 1km. Toilets available but was dirty, cafe is available but again it was dirty. Otherwise the place is well kept and the scenery is awesome. Please try if you can.
Prantik M — Google review
Scenic views. You should go there if you just want to relax and be with nature, need to be fit enough to finish the entire trek, needs 3 hours minimum to explore. Facilities available for food. Unfortunately we didn't find the goats during our visit.

We recently visited Eravikulam National Park in Munnar, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! The park offers breathtaking views of rolling hills, lush greenery, and diverse wildlife, making it a nature lover’s paradise. The well-maintained trails and scenic viewpoints make exploring easy and enjoyable. It’s a must-visit destination in Munnar for anyone looking to experience Kerala’s natural beauty. The serene environment and stunning landscapes left us with unforgettable memories. Highly recommended!
Jaysheel M — Google review
the Eravikulam National Park would be good but the visitors are allowed only very very limited access. Secondly, There is no control on local village vehicles and both the Forest department vehicles and the local villager vehicles ply too fast which will affect the animal movement. Thirdly, we had hired a exclusive electrical vehicle for visit. wildlife sighting was limited to Lion-tailed macaque. the Vehicle driver had limited knowledge of wildlife of maybe a communication problem. Paying Rs 7500/ seemed too high, given the experience. the forest department should take care of these issues. The VR Show of Eravikulam National Park was good. The Eravikulam National Park has endangered Nilgiri Tahr, along with mammals like the Gaur, Sambar Deer, Nilgiri Langur, tiger, and leopard. The park is also a significant bird habitat, with 132 species recorded, including endemics such as the black-and-orange flycatcher and Nilgiri pipit. unlike we were not able to experience the wildlife, just the drive, most of which was lovely tea estates. A sincere request to forest department, to control vehicle speed and the noise pollution by vehicles
Jawahar S — Google review
Brilliant place to visit if you love nature and magnificent views. A bus takes you from the entrance of the park to a quarter of the way up. After that you can walk to up to half way. It is not a long walk about 20 minutes at a slow pace. The views are magnificent and there are many springs and waterfalls along the way. I wish the path went up further and there were more different paths. It would be a hikers paradise.
Vanessa — Google review
A natural way and big walk. Enjoy a bit of nature. But nothing special otherwise than a walk up the hill. Could be strenuous for old or heart patients. Overall it's okay place. We didn't see any animals.
Sanjeev J — Google review
An absolute gem in the heart of Munnar! 🌿 The scenic views, rolling tea plantations, and misty hills make Eravikulam National Park a paradise for nature lovers. Seeing the rare Nilgiri Tahr in its natural habitat was an incredible experience. The park is well-maintained, and the shuttle ride up the hill offers stunning panoramic views. A must-visit spot for anyone exploring Kerala’s natural beauty
Curiosity — Google review
It's a beautiful place between fog and clouds. Eravikulam National Park is home of endangered species (Nilgiri Tahr) and many special species of plants and flowers!! And yes nature is mashallah❤️ But if you are going to see Nilgiri Tahr don't go, visibility of Nilgiri Tahr is very rare . So enjoy the nature don't expect anything. But yes we have seen wild elephants.

Stayed at Timber Nook. Very good room with nice location. You need to travel 6km for food and other services. Guide Nalla Thambi assisted well. Spotted leopard, Elephant, bison, deer, sambar deer, boar, black monkey during 1 night stay. Food was excellent.

The food, stay and the hospitality by the tribal people was awesome. The only place we had issues with the guide. Better to plan in Feb or March as you can see many animals due to summer. Kudos to the food preparation

Excellent place. The rooms are neat and clean. In the morning, I saw a beautiful peacock sitting on the fence and saw a giant squirrel. This place is much more suitable for people visiting groups where you can get 6 rooms in the same place.

A guest house inside a deep forest maintained by kerela eco tourism. You can spot deers peacocks and sometimes elephants near this stay. The overall experience is amazing. But only drawback was even if drinking and smoking is banned here few tourist were drinking and smoking and created lot of chaos there. That ruined the place. Do not do that

Visited 14 September 2025 My goodness! God has blessed this place. Amazing experience with scenic views in every direction. Falls is safe, ice cold water, water was just below knee.

LAKKAM WATER FALL is Beautiful, but ferocious, just by the road, 100 mtrs away. Jumps in thunder and drops more than 300 ft in a short steep slope. Just 15 kms from Munnar. Combine this with THOOVAM WATERFALL TREK in CHINAR WILD LIFE SANCTUARY. JEEP 4000/ ₹ indian, to cover both. 300 entry fee for Thoovam tren with a forest guide. 7 km trek through forest crossing streams many times. Dont ever miss it.
Raghunath V — Google review
Good place and good crowd. Many shops around if you want to buy soveniors and food. The approaching road is quite steep and you may face traffic if you don't plan to come early in the morning
Tania M — Google review
The waterfall is very pretty but I did not like that people were bathing there with soaps. There is Rs. 50 entry fee and a small place to have some snacks.
Debaleena S — Google review
A beautiful waterfall with plenty of clear chill water. Yes you can bath with your friends and family. There is also a place to change dress. You have to take ticket for 50 rupees and walk for 100 metres to take a bath.

Not bad of a waterfall, but nothing really special. The road to get there though amidst all the tea plantations and mountains, is the most beautiful scenery I’ve seen in my life! Go and see the waterfalls just to see the scenery!

🌊 Lakkam Waterfalls – A Hidden Gem in Munnar! 🌿 If you’re visiting Munnar, Lakkam Waterfalls is an absolute must-see! Located inside the Eravikulam National Park area, this spot offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, adventure, and tranquility. The crystal-clear water cascading down the rocks creates a refreshing pool where you can dip your feet or enjoy a swim surrounded by lush greenery. The short trek to reach the falls is scenic and enjoyable, with plenty of shade from the forest canopy. The sound of rushing water and the cool mist in the air make it an unforgettable experience — especially on a sunny day when the sunlight filters beautifully through the trees. 🌞 💡 Tips for Visitors: Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds. Wear comfortable footwear; the rocks can be slippery. Entry tickets are available near the main road, and parking is convenient. Carry some water and light snacks, but please keep the place clean — it’s pristine and deserves to stay that way! 🌱 📍 Location: Lakkam Waterfalls, Marayoor Road, near Eravikulam National Park, Munnar, Idukki, Kerala. A peaceful spot to connect with nature — perfect for photography, a refreshing dip, or simply relaxing by the sound of the falls. Highly recommended for anyone exploring Munnar!

Aliyar Dam view point Aliyar Dam is located in the foot hills of Valparai. It is about 65 kilometers from Coimbatore in Valparai Mainroad. From Pollachi is about 25kms. and From Valparai is about 40 Kms. is located above 918 feet (280 m) from the Mean sea level on the Anamalai mountain range and in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. It stands majestically with Green Spread Mountains and forest all around. In Aliyar Dam there is a park, garden, aquarium, play area, Boat House Park. Aliyar Dam, which is 81 meters high, was built between 1959 and 1969 across the Aliyar River primarily for irrigation purposes. Currently, water is released through three sets of sluices or canals - Pollachi Canal, Vettaikaranpudur Canal and the river sluices. In 2002, a project was commissioned to generate hydroelectric power. This project consists of a series of dams interconnected by tunnels and canals for utilizing the waters of the Parambikulam, Aliyar, Sholiyar, Thunakadavu, Thekkadi and Palar rivers, which flow at a range of elevations, for irrigation and power generation. The project is a terrific illustration of engineering skills. Aliyar Lake receives water from the Upper Aliyar Reservoir through the hydroelectric power station in Navamali and the Parambikulam reservoir through a contour canal. The Aliyar Dam is another attraction for those in the Pollachi region. About 25 kilometres from Pollachi, Aliyar Dam is located. It serves as the enclosure for a storage tank as well as a little amusement park, a playground, a garden, an aquarium and boats. Suggested Duration 1 to 2 hours What to Expect This is the perfect spot for a family picnic. A number of buses leave Pollachi for Aliyar, and they run frequently. The Anamalai Tiger Reserve Complex lies along the path, and it is home to lion-tailed macaques, wild boars, and a variety of other animals. Tips 1. Bring snacks and water with you because there are no food or drink stands at the dam. 2. There is no shelter or seating at the dam, so bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Mentioned on
6 lists
Wildlife park
Nature & Parks
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a sprawling reserve with a diverse range of mammals, amphibians, and plants. It's home to many endangered species and features watch towers for wildlife viewing along the way to Munnar. The sanctuary has narrow roads with a low speed limit, making it advisable to travel during the day due to the risk of fog at night. Visitors are advised to carry necessary supplies as summer can be challenging.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a hidden gem with breathtaking scenery. The trekking trail is challenging, with steep climbs and descents, but the reward is worth it - a stunning hidden waterfall ( Thoocanam waterfalls)! Spotting wildlife is a bonus, but not guaranteed. The falls themselves are awesome, though bathing isn't allowed. If you're up for the trek, it's an experience not to miss.
Jenifer D — Google review
Trekking through Chinnar forest is some experience we will never forget. Don’t book this one for animal sightings, but for a peaceful walk through the jungle, you can watch a variety of birds though. The first visit was a trek to Vashyappara Peak. The second visit was to stay in the Pampar log house and have a couple trekking through the forest. The bath we had in the Pampar River was so refreshing.
Muneer J — Google review
I recently visited Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, and it was such a refreshing experience. 🌿✨ Located on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the whole place feels untouched, raw, and very close to nature. The drive itself was scenic — hills, forests, and fresh air everywhere. Once inside, the sanctuary offered a mix of wildlife, trekking, and peaceful landscapes. I spotted deer, monkeys, peacocks, and even rare birds. Though spotting elephants and leopards depends on your luck, the thrill of waiting quietly in the forest itself is worth it. 🐒🦌🦜 What I loved most: The guided trekking experience was safe, informative, and gave us a deeper connection with the forest. The watchtowers gave a panoramic view of the entire forest and surrounding hills. The rivers and waterfalls added a calm vibe, perfect for photography and relaxation. Facilities are basic — don’t expect luxury. It’s more about experiencing nature in its raw form. Food and stay options nearby are limited, so plan accordingly. Overall, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone who wants a break from busy life. It gives you that true forest experience is calm, wild, and unforgettable. 🌳🌊✨
APARNA N — Google review
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary stands out as a unique, unspoiled destination—definitely a must-do for serious nature lovers visiting Kerala. We opted for the guided wildlife trekking tour, The absolute highlight, however, was the trek up to the waterfall. The hike itself was beautiful, winding through dense, cool forest trails. When we finally arrived, the view was breathtaking.
Vaishak D — Google review
Excellent tourist destination. Chinnar is on Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway. It is adjacent to the Tamil Nadu border. Chinnar is extremely good as a birding spot. You can also get some wild animals like sambar deer, barking deer, elephants, spotted deer, Malabar giant squirrel and the rare species called grizzled squirrel. There is trekking facility throughout the day. You will get tickets from the ticket counter and a guide will accompany you throughout the trekking. You can opt for a two hour trekking or a three hour trekking. You can also opt for a short walk to the watch tower. There are different kinds of accommodation arranged by the Forest Department.
Dr G — Google review

Aliyar Dam is a picturesque spot nestled amidst mountains, parks, and gardens. It's an ideal stopover on the way to Valparai, best visited in the morning or evening due to the hot climate. A short climb leads to breathtaking views at the top of the dam, where boating facilities are available. While there are no snack shops inside, visitors can enjoy stunning reservoir views against the backdrop of Annamalai hills.
What a lovely spot! The view is stunning, specially at sundown you get a beautiful view of the reservoir and hills in the background. There is a small entry fee of 10 bucks or less. The place can be better maintained by people with few additional dust bins but else overall the view is nice. You have to climb 40-50 steps so please be prepared for that.

Very peaceful, beautiful and an important place in the film history perspective. Better to visit in monsoon or the winter season, else the scorching sun will not allow your sense of relaxation to exist. Tender coconut is a bit costly, wondered why the land of coconut has become like this. There are other places better than this nearby. Need atleast two days to completely experience this out.

Aliyar Dam is in Tamil Nadu but it is part of the Parambikkulam-Aliyar Project. The dam is a good tourist destination. You can spend some time on the dam viewing the deep blue water in the reservoir and the surrounding hills. It is an excellent spot for photos. Usually there are several tourists on the dam. If you go there in the evening you will love the dam and the surroundings in the fading light.

One of my favourite dams in Tamil Nadu is this one. I love this place for its serene and nature-bound atmosphere. The dam offers a fantastic view of Valparai and other mountains. Don't miss the stunning view from atop the dam. Be sure to walk the full length to witness more scenic views of the bridge, the flowing water, and the surrounding mountains. The entire area seems to be covered with coconut trees. The small entry fee is well worth it to enjoy the beauty of the place. It's especially beautiful to visit on non-summer days. You'll find many small eateries outside the dam. This is a place you shouldn't miss when you're in Pollachi.

Aliyar Dam is a charming location surrounded by Annamali Hills with wonderful natural views. It is located between Pollachi and Valparai. The dam's location amidst the Western Ghats provides a stunning backdrop, and the surrounding hills and reservoir offer picturesque views. Mango orchid and coconut trees on the one side and hills and water on the other side. Absolute beauty. Entry fee is 5 ₹ person and 20₹ to carry mobile phones inside. Note they don’t accept UPI at the counter , so carry cash. Inside the premises they have various play stations - swings toy trains and many other kids play games - few of them are paid entry. You have to walk to the top of the damn via stairs - close to 100 steps .

Aliyar Dam, located a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Coimbatore city, is a scenic spot that’s perfect for tourists and nature enthusiasts. The combination of the serene dam waters, lush greenery, and towering mountains creates a picturesque setting that’s ideal for relaxing and clicking beautiful photos. The entry fee is quite affordable, just ₹5 per person for access to the garden attached to the dam. If you plan to take pictures using your mobile, there’s an additional ₹20 photography fee. The garden is well-maintained with smaller fountains adding to its charm. After exploring the garden, you can climb the stairs to get closer to the dam. One side of the dam is bordered by the scenic garden, while the other side is flanked by magnificent mountains, making it an incredible sight. Outside the garden, you’ll find some small vendors selling fruits and snacks, although they tend to charge slightly more as it’s a tourist area. However, during my visit, I didn’t see any vendors inside the garden itself. There are also a few shops near the entrance where you can grab some food. For families with children, the kids’ play area inside the garden is a thoughtful addition. If visiting during the daytime, especially in hot weather, it’s advisable to carry water bottles and a cap to stay comfortable. The best time to visit is in the evening when the weather is cooler and the views are even more magical. Parking facilities are available outside the garden, making it convenient for those arriving in private vehicles.

Nestled a few kilometers away from Theni, Berijam Lake is a 59-acre reservoir and a popular tourist attraction in the region. Surrounded by hills, this natural setting offers grand views and lush greenery, making it an ideal spot for picnics with family. As part of a forest conservation area, it's a haven for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. The lake is preserved by the Kodaikanal Forest Department, ensuring the protection of its raw and rustic wildlife.
Best place for nature lovers. It was best part of my Kodai visit. It is part of the reserve forest and requires permit to enter, private cars are not allowed inside. You can park your car near the entrance at Moir Point and take forest jeep to reach the lake which is around 10km inside for around Rs.300. Also you can ask your hotel or taxi company for forest tour package which will cost around Rs.3000 to and from your hotel.

"Berijam lake trip" => Silent valley view point->caps fly view point->berijam lake view point-> mathiketten sholai->berijam lake. All these are inside the forest where you cannot go on your own. You can take a forest trip via forest department canter vehicle( 20 seater). Ticket per person rs 250/-. Trip duration approx 2 hrs. Trip starts from Moir point. Sufficient parking space at Moir point to park your vehicle. Be there by 0930 am to catch a first trip. No online booking. Tickets will be issued inside the vehicle. Trip starts only after all seats are full. Second option is, you can take your own vehicle after obtaining prior permission from forest dept, located in kodaikanal. Forest trip is worth taking.

Best isolated place with less tourist where it is absolutely silent , free from pollution and vehicle noise. It’s just nature and you. You can also find some wild animals and birds along the way. Only limited vehicles are allowed inside with permits issued at forest office or you can come directly buy the tickets and forest department will take you for short tour in a van with forest department personal.

Worth place to visit in Kodaikanal.. Need to get permission from forest office for the car or there is a shuttle facility arranged by forest department from Moir point. Costing ₹250 - ₹500

It is at the end of the forest trail tour package of Kodaikanal, after silent valley, caps point and Madhikettan Shola view, you come to the Berijam Lake view' from where you get an eagle's view of the lake. The lake itself comes after further drive for one or two km. Half the lake is filled with lilies and the other half is clear. A walk around the lake, at the edge of the tiger and bison territory, is the feature of the lake. Because it is deep inside the forest it is serene but some noisy tourists disturb it by testing their decibels. Shouting nuisance should be prohibited here. Otherwise, you can spend half an hour walking and sitting on the banks of the lake.

Stunning, in the mid of forest, pure nature. Wonderful place to visit. One needs to take permit one day in advance from forest dept.in kodaikanal to access through private car else forest department buses are also good option with 250 bucks return journey of 3 hours. View of lake and some of the forest views are stunning. Worth the experience

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Aanamalai Tiger Reserve, also known as the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, is a renowned nature reserve located in the southern part of India. It offers a unique opportunity to observe and interact with various wildlife species such as elephants, tigers, wild bears, porcupines, flying squirrels, deer, jackals, and sloth bears.
Visiting the Anamalai Tiger Reserve was an unforgettable experience, with its serene beauty, scenic views, and the chill climate making the long forest route truly delightful. The tranquility and natural charm of the reserve are unmatched, making it a perfect getaway for nature lovers and adventurers alike. However, one challenge we faced during our journey stood out. The checkpost at the reserve closes at 6:00 PM and reopens at 6:00 AM for safety reasons, which is completely understandable. Unfortunately, we arrived at 3:00 AM on a two-wheeler after a long night ride to Valparai, and had to wait three hours for the checkpost to open. There isn’t any nearby facility for resting or sheltering during such times. As a prominent tourist destination, it would be immensely helpful if the authorities could provide a family rest area or at least a waiting shed near the checkpost. Such an addition would enhance the experience for visitors and make the wait more comfortable. Overall, the ride and the journey through the reserve were absolutely worth it. The enchanting views and peaceful ambiance left us in awe. Despite the minor inconvenience, I’d highly recommend the Anamalai Tiger Reserve for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Anamalai Tiger Reserve in the Western Ghats is a breathtaking mix of forests, grasslands, and wildlife 🌳🐅. We spotted elephants, gaurs, macaques and many birds—tigers and leopards stay hidden but wildlife sightings are still exciting. The main hub is Top Slip, great for jeep safaris (7 AM–10 AM & 3 PM–5 PM) or elephant rides (11 AM–2 PM) — permits needed, book early 🎟️. Park is open 6 AM–6 PM; check‑posts close at 4 PM—don’t miss the 6 PM Valparai cutoff ⚠️. Roads are steep and narrow, drive carefully 🚗. No shops inside—carry water, snacks, and a camera. The reserve is rich in biodiversity—800+ plant species, 250+ birds ﹨cite﹂turn0search6﹂turn0search1﹁. Best time to visit is October to May for pleasant weather and sightings. Avoid weekends/holidays—they get crowded by midday. Stunning for nature‑lovers seeking calm forest trails, wildlife and views ✨.

Very serene place. We went around noon so it was a little hot but it was not that warm. We saw monkeys, deer, peacocks etc. but if it was evening time we could see more of them. There is a canteen near the top slip and washrooms were also available. Through this we can reach the kerala border through Parambikulam Tiger reserve but the road is not recommended. Better coming back through Aanamalai tiger reserve is best.

Nice place to chill over the weekends. We can see elephants live feeding at the camp, other wild animals like bison, deer, bird varieties, monkeys(not the one's that we usually see), wild squirrels, wild elephants etc. Try to be here early as possible, maybe around 6.30 so that you can see wild animals inside the reserve.

When I visited, the skies were cloudy, so it was hard to see much, though I still got glimpses of the surrounding hills and forests. The rock pillars rise dramatically from the valley and give a sense of awe. There are small shops nearby for snacks and souvenirs, making it a nice spot for nature lovers and photographers.

When we visited, the entire area was covered in fog—almost like snowfall—so visibility was low. Even if the weather isn’t perfect, this place still offers a refreshing and unique climate you’ll definitely feel and enjoy. Parking can be a bit challenging, but the spot is absolutely worth it. The natural caverns formed between the pillars, originally known as ‘Devil’s Kitchen’ due to their deep and narrow formations, are fascinating to see. You can easily spend about 15 minutes here and capture some beautiful photos. A must-visit location.

One of the scenic views of Kodaikanal, ne can get from this place. People who love nature ,will go mad at this place. The clouds surrounding the pillar rocks adds on to the majestic highness of this place. As this is one of the major tourist spots in Kodiakanal, there will be lot of crowds. Long rows of cars and buses can be seen here. Numerous shops ranging from snacks, beverages and clothes fancy items will be available. Morning time will be the best one to visit this place. Entrance tickets have to get taken. Traffic happens sometimes due to overcrowding. Parking lots available and fairs collected.

Whispers of the Woods – The Magical Pine Forest, Kodaikanal If peace had a scent, it would be the cool fragrance of pine needles in the air at Pine Forest, Kodaikanal. 🌲🍃 This isn’t just a tourist spot — it’s nature’s own cathedral, where sunlight filters softly through tall trees and time seems to slow down. Located on the southwestern edge of Kodaikanal, this enchanting forest was first planted in the early 1900s by Mr. Bryant, a British officer who wanted to preserve the region’s natural charm. Over a century later, his vision has turned into one of Tamil Nadu’s most beautiful and serene landscapes. 🌿✨ The moment you step in, you’re surrounded by towering pine trees stretching endlessly toward the sky, the forest floor covered in a golden-brown carpet of dry pine needles that crunch softly under your feet. The air feels cooler, calmer — filled with the whisper of the wind and the distant chirping of birds. It’s a favorite spot for nature lovers, photographers, and film-makers — several iconic Indian movies have been shot here. Whether you come to click pictures, take a quiet walk, or just sit and breathe in the mountain air, the place has a way of wrapping you in calm. As sunlight plays hide and seek through the tall trees, the entire forest glows with a golden warmth that feels almost magical — like something out of a dream. 🌞📸 Pro Tip: Visit in the early morning or late afternoon for the most beautiful light and fewer crowds. Wear good shoes — the pine needles can make the slope a bit slippery. The Pine Forest of Kodaikanal isn’t just a destination — it’s a moment of peace you’ll carry home forever. A place where nature still speaks softly, and all you need to do is listen. 🌲💫

Arulmigu Maasani Amman Temple in Anamalai is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to several deities, including the powerful goddess Maasani Amman. The temple offers a deep spiritual atmosphere and is known for its traditional architecture and serene surroundings amidst the lush greenery of Anamalai. Visitors have described their experiences as enriching and humbling, with the peaceful environment allowing for a profound connection during prayer.

The temple is surrounded by greenery and the ambiance is truly divine. A great place for both spiritual seekers and families. Powerful Goddess – Immediate Blessings” Very sacred and powerful temple. The parking area is quite average, and on the way to the temple, there are many street vendors who can be a bit bothersome — it’s better to avoid them if possible. The temple is usually very crowded, and there’s often a long queue that can take at least 30 minutes for darshan. However, with a ₹100 special entry ticket, devotees can have a calmer and closer darshan of the deity. Masani Amman Temple is a famous and sacred Amman (Goddess) temple located near Pollachi in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. The goddess is also known as Masani Devi among North Indians. The temple is situated at Anaimalai, about 24 km southwest of Pollachi. Nestled at the foothills of the majestic Anaimalai Hills, where the Aliyar River flows nearby, the temple offers a serene and spiritual atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery. The presiding deity, Masani Amman, is unique in her reclining posture — the idol stretches 15 feet from head to toe. Devotees believe that worshipping the goddess and circumambulating her sanctum can help cure long-standing ailments and bring justice and relief from troubles. Other notable shrines within the temple include Neethi Kal (Stone of Justice) and Maha Muniyappan. The temple attracts thousands of devotees seeking blessings, peace, and protection.

“A powerful shrine of justice and legend” I recently visited Arulmigu Masani Amman Temple nestled near Anaimalai, Pollachi (about 60 km from Coimbatore), and I was truly moved by its profound history and spiritual ambiance. ⸻ 📜 Historical & Legendary Insights • Ancient roots: The temple is believed to be over 1,000 years old, with its origins traced back to the Sangam era and early Kongu region rulers . • Legend of martyrdom: A heart‑wrenching tale recounts how a woman was unjustly executed for eating a mango from King Nannuran’s grove. After she was killed, the villagers revolted and deified her by building this temple, worshiping the reclining goddess as Masani Devi . • Divine link to Rama: It’s believed Lord Rama stayed here on his search for Sita, and even fashioned the idol himself before departing to Lanka—installing the reclining posture to honor the guardian deity . ⸻ 🏛 Architectural & Iconic Features • Unique idol: The 15–17 ft deity lies reclining—an attribute not seen in other Amman temples. She has four hands holding symbolic items (skull, snake, drum, trident) . • Temple on cremation ground: Built atop a burial site (smasana), which gives it the name “Masani” (from “smasana”). It’s rare and symbolically significant in the region . • Stone of Justice (Neethi Kal): A unique serpent‑shaped justice stone where devotees apply red chili paste as a plea for justice or redress . ⸻ 🕉 Cultural Practices & Community Faith • Pursuit of justice: Many come here to seek justice for wrongs—lost property, deceit, or injustice—by grinding red chilies and smearing paste on the Neethi Kal . • Belief in speedy blessings: Devotees often report that the goddess responds to sincere prayers within 19 days, sometimes via a Mahamuni Puja on the 18th day . • Festivals & rituals: Major celebrations include Mayana Puja during Maha Shivaratri and the 18‑day Kundam festival in the Tamil month Thai. Other observances include Adi Perukku, Chithirai Kani, and weekly special days like Tuesdays and Fridays . ⸻ 💡 Practical Info & Visitor Tips • Timings: Open from 5:00/6:00 AM to around 8:00 PM . • Getting there: Reachable via bus or cab from Pollachi and Coimbatore; located 14 km from Pollachi . • Atmosphere: On auspicious days, there is a powerful sense of devotion. The justice‑giving rituals—grinding chilies, writing notes, offering ashes—feel deeply rooted in community faith. • Facilities: Options include basic queues, paid entry for closer darshan, prasadam distribution, parking, restrooms, and drinking water . ⸻ 📝 Final Thoughts The Arulmigu Masani Amman Temple offers more than spirituality—it is a living testament to folk justice, martyrdom, and community resilience. Whether you’re drawn by the divine, history, or unique ritualistic traditions, a visit here is both powerful and memorable. For its extraordinary blend of legend, architecture, and faith, I wholeheartedly give it 5 stars. ⸻ Lonely Planet‑style tips: • Visit on a weekday or outside festival times to avoid crowds. • Participate respectfully in the Neethi Kal ritual to understand its emotional depth.

The area around the lake offers serene views and natural light, with lush greenery adding to its charm. While staying at nearby accommodations like Sterling Kodai Lake, guests can experience courteous staff and indoor recreational facilities. The location provides a quiet and secluded atmosphere, perfect for relaxation.
This lake is quite vast. Visitors with more energy can enjoy a pedal boat ride, while others can opt for a boat operated by an authorized person. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance. Around the lake, there is a scenic road where people can rent bicycles or enjoy a horse ride in the evening.

This lake is situated at a very high level from the sea. The climate is almost cool. We can enjoy it there by cycling, horse riding, pedestal boat services and beautiful flower gardens near this lake

I visited this lake and really liked the atmosphere. Boating and cycling were enjoyable, though it was quite crowded during the day. There’s also a market around the lake with souvenirs, food, and local chocolates. But for me, the best part was at night — the place becomes almost empty, and that’s when you can truly enjoy the cool breeze and the beauty of nature.

Kodaikanal Lake is located right in the heart of Kodaikanal and was artificially created in the 19th century. It’s a vast and scenic spot where you can enjoy beautiful views of the entire town. The lake is quite famous for its boating and pedal boating activities, which attract visitors throughout the year. Unfortunately, during our visit, it was raining both days, so we couldn’t enjoy any of these activities — but the misty weather still made the place feel magical. 📍For more details and travel posts, Follow Let’s Travel Hyderabad on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Google Maps.

A Mirror of the Mountains – Kodaikanal Lake, Tamil Nadu If there’s a heart that beats at the center of Kodaikanal, it’s the shimmering Kodaikanal Lake — calm, elegant, and surrounded by misty hills that look like they’ve stepped out of a painting. 🌫️💧 This star-shaped lake was created in 1863 by Sir Vere Henry Levinge, a British collector who wanted to make Kodaikanal a summer retreat. What began as a man-made lake soon turned into one of the most beautiful natural wonders of South India. Over the years, it’s seen everything — British horse carriages, quiet fishermen, giggling tourists, and the golden glow of a thousand sunsets. ☀️✨ Walking around the 5 km lake pathway is an experience in itself — tall eucalyptus trees on one side, the sparkling blue water on the other, and the sweet scent of pine and fresh earth in the breeze. You can ride a bicycle, go boating, or simply sit by the edge and watch the clouds dance in the lake’s reflection. 🚣‍♂️🌤️ Evenings here feel magical — the lights from nearby cafés reflect softly on the water, and the sound of laughter mixes with the gentle ripples. It’s peaceful, romantic, and timeless — a place where you can pause life and just be. Pro Tip: Visit early morning or just before sunset for the best views and light. Try the shikara-style boats or pedal boats for a quiet ride in the mist. And don’t miss a cup of hot chocolate from a lakeside stall! ☕💙 Kodaikanal Lake isn’t just water surrounded by hills — it’s a feeling. A place where time slows, hearts rest, and nature reminds you that beauty doesn’t shout — it whispers. 🌄💫

Coaker's Walk, constructed in 1872 by Lieutenant Coaker, is a popular one-kilometer long walkway offering stunning views of the valley and mountains. It is located just 500 meters away from Kodai Lake and provides an amphitheatrical view of the surrounding hill range. The walkway winds around Mount Nebo, starting near Van Allen Hospital and ending at St. Peter's Church, providing panoramic vistas of the plains.
One of my best spot in Kodaikanal, must try in sunset/ evening with mist. Each time I had different experience.. Highly recommend 👍👍👍

Where Clouds Walk Beside You – Coaker’s Walk, Kodaikanal If you ever want to know what it feels like to walk through the clouds, come to Coaker’s Walk in Kodaikanal. 🌫️💙 This narrow, winding pedestrian path along the edge of a steep hillside offers one of the most breathtaking views you’ll ever see — a walk where nature feels alive with every step. Built in 1872 and named after Lt. Coaker, this scenic pathway stretches for about 1 kilometer, overlooking the rolling hills, deep valleys, and the distant plains of Tamil Nadu. On a clear day, you can see the Pambar River, Dolphin’s Nose, and even the small village lights twinkling miles away — but on misty days, it’s pure magic. The fog moves like soft waves, wrapping everything in silence and mystery. 🌄🌫️ There’s something deeply calming here — the sound of the wind, the smell of fresh eucalyptus, and the feeling of being high above the world. Whether you visit at sunrise, when the first golden light touches the hills, or in the evening when the mist rolls in, Coaker’s Walk never looks the same twice. It’s a favorite spot for photographers, couples, and peace seekers — every corner feels like a postcard waiting to be framed. Don’t miss the viewpoint telescope at the end, and stop for a cup of hot tea or roasted corn from local vendors — it completes the mountain mood perfectly. ☕🌽 Pro Tip: Visit early morning for sunrise or after 5 PM for a misty romantic vibe. Carry a light jacket — the breeze here loves surprises! 💨 Coaker’s Walk isn’t just a pathway — it’s an experience, a quiet conversation between you and the clouds. You don’t just walk here — you drift, you breathe, you belong. 🌥️💫

I visited this beautiful place in early June 2024. It’s a wonderful spot for a casual walk with your loved ones, offering the feeling of strolling along the edges of a mountain while being completely safe. I’d recommend avoiding school holiday periods, as heavy traffic jams during that time can eat up a lot of your day.

Just another place for walking. Not worth giving 50 rs entry free. There are many places in outer kodaikanal where you can enjoy such views for free. I visited around 8 am and there was no rush. This place has two entrances.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Coimbatore, Arulmigu Eachanari Vinayagar Temple stands as a testament to the rich spiritual heritage of Tamil Nadu. This stunning temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, boasts an intricately carved tower that showcases remarkable architectural craftsmanship dating back to the 16th century. As you wander through its serene surroundings, you'll be enveloped by a peaceful atmosphere that invites reflection and devotion.
Echanaari Vinayagar Temple in Coimbatore is a blessing. We visited during our trip to Valparai and were fortunate to attend the 6:30 pm pooja. The idol of Vinayagar is impressive, and the aarthi was a treat to witness. However, there was a bit of a rush, so if you're short on time or prefer less crowd, you might want to plan your visit accordingly. The pooja items outside the temple were overpriced; a coconut, two bananas, and no flowers cost ₹120, which seemed steep. Trustees to have temple own shop and provide reasonable price to devotees The temple atmosphere was serene, and the prashadam, Sakarai Pongal, was delicious. Parking was challenging due to the temple's location on the main road. Despite the pricing concerns, we'd recommend visiting with family and friends. Coimbatore residents are indeed lucky to have this temple nearby. Vinayagar Thunai! 🙏

Visited this temple during our coimbatore visit, this temple was suggested by Anandas hotel manager. The temple is located 12-15kms from coimbatore city. The Vinayagar idol is about 6ft tall and looks magnificent. The entire temple gives you a Devine feeling. There is a small garden and a marriage area inside the temple. Parking is available for 3 to 4 cars, there are shops to buy pooja items as well. this temple is located under the flyover and has continuous vehicle movement. This temple is special because many new bike or car buyers get their pooja done here. Many devotees also perform dristi removal ritual with coconut here. Nice place to add to your coimbatore list.
Radhakrishna P — Google review
Located about half an hour’s drive from Coimbatore, Eachanari Vinayagar Temple is one of the oldest temples in the area, dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The temple is known for its large, 6-foot idol of Lord Vinayagar. The Dravidian-style architecture, with its intricate carvings, adds to the temple’s charm. The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM (straight - no break), and there are regular poojas throughout the day. According to legend, the idol was originally being taken to the Pateeswarar Temple in Perur from Madhurai, but the cart broke down near Eachanari. The idol became embedded in the soil, which devotees interpret as a divine sign, leading to the construction of the temple around it. The temple has undergone several significant updates over the years, with the first Kumbabhishekam held in 1977, and photographs from the ceremony are displayed at the temple. How to reach: • By car/taxi: It is about 12 km from Coimbatore city and takes roughly 30 minutes. (I was driving from Kerala via NH544 and NH968 to reach the temple) Note that the temple is located right by the roadside under a flyover, so parking can be challenging. • Public transport: Buses and taxis are available from Coimbatore, which is often more convenient due to traffic and limited parking.

Small temple with very beautiful Ganesha idol Very close to road Parking not available it’s on road site It’s about 14 km from Coimbatore Must visit once

Eachanari Vinayagar Temple is a well-known and highly revered temple located right on the main Coimbatore–Pollachi road. It's easily noticeable and accessible due to the presence of the huge and beautiful Ganesha statue that stands as the main attraction. The temple is peaceful and attracts devotees from all over, especially those traveling along this route. One of the highlights is the daily abhishegam (ritual bathing of the idol), which is done with devotion and draws a good number of visitors. While the temple experience is spiritual and calming, one thing to note is that the flower shops outside tend to overcharge for coconuts, flowers, and pooja items. It’s a good idea to be aware of the prices or bring your offerings from elsewhere if possible. Overall, it’s a divine and spiritually uplifting place worth visiting, especially for those who seek blessings from Lord Ganesha during travel or important beginnings.

Known as the first god to pray before any new beginning, Lord Vinayagar here is believed to fulfill sincere wishes. This is the biggest Ganesha temple in Kongu region and a very old one as well. Located in a village some 5/6 kms from Ukkadam, this has both inner/outer prakarams, a function hall & parking area etc. Like the temple, the moolasthan moorthi is also large sized prominent deity. Nitya Pooja's, deeparadhana & prasams are integral part of daily activities here. A must visit temple in Coimbatore

Goddess is named Soundaryanakai. This is one of the 275 Padal Petra Sthalams as it finds a place in the Thevara Hymns of Thirugnana Sambandar. This is a vast temple and mostly free of crowds, and has quite a peaceful atmosphere. Om Nama Shivaya |

In the sacred heart of Karur stands the divine Pashupatheswarar Temple, a timeless sanctuary whose beauty transcends ages, whispering tales from before the reign of Rajendra Chola. Here, the sacred Nama of Pashupathi echoes with profound reverence—born from Kamadhenu’s penance, her meditation echoing the divine blessings of Shiva, the Lord of all creatures. Goddess Parvati, the gentle consort, sits nearby in divine grace, embodying devotion by Shiva’s side. Mahalakshmi, in her myriad divine forms, adorns this sacred space, radiating auspiciousness and grace. Deities like Sri Mugugan, Ganesha, and Durga grace this hallowed ground, each enfolding devotees with divine power and compassion. This temple, a spiritual haven, breathes blessings—especially for marriage, progeny, and familial harmony—imbuing hearts with hope and divine assurance. Within its vast and tranquil halls, sacred energy flows like a gentle stream, filling the soul with peace and positivity. Early morning darshan unveils the true essence of spirituality—an awakening of the heart, a communion with the divine. A visit here is a sublime journey—an eternal embrace of divine grace and cosmic love.

The main god here is shiva surrounded by lord ganesh, murugan, Amman, Brahma, 63 nayanmargal etc. It's a bit big temple we can see separate Mandapam for karuvurar. This temple has its own history, this place was once a forest and it is mostly used for pasture, one day the cow which was grazing went straight to snake pit nearby, cow poured it's milk on pit and where the lord Shiva found and that place was made as temple by the locality and consideration as most powerful. This story can be also found in entrance of kodi maram or inside their is a sculpture which describes the history of this temple

Ample parking is available, though there is a fee, and some small shops at the base offer flowers and other items . Located approximately 6–8 km from Erode city center, it’s well-connected via buses and road networks . Festivals & Special Highlights The temple car (golden chariot) is run on certain occasions—such as Fridays—and can be witnessed by paying a donation (e.g., ₹1,500) . Major festivals like Thaipusam, Karthigai Deepam, and Panguni Uthiram are celebrated with grandeur and draw large crowds . The temple holds significance as one of the 108 Murugan shrines celebrated in Tiruppugazh hymns .

Thindal Murugan Kovil is truly a divine and spiritually uplifting place dedicated to Lord Murugan, the embodiment of wisdom, courage, and victory. The temple is situated on a small hill, giving devotees a serene atmosphere away from the noise of the city. Climbing up and having darshan itself feels like a blessing, as the cool breeze and peaceful surroundings fill the mind with positivity and devotion. The idol of Lord Murugan here is majestic and radiates divine energy. The temple is well-maintained, with clean premises and organized darshan, allowing devotees to worship peacefully. The chanting of mantras and the sound of temple bells create an aura of spirituality that deeply touches the soul. One of the highlights is the panoramic view from the top of the hill, which adds to the beauty and sanctity of the temple. Visiting during early mornings or evenings gives a blissful experience, especially when the temple lights shine across the city. Festivals, particularly Thaipusam and Panguni Uthiram, are celebrated with grandeur, attracting devotees from far and wide. The spiritual vibrations during these times are indescribable and must be experienced in person. Overall, Thindal Murugan Kovil is not just a temple but a divine destination where one feels closer to Lord Murugan. Thindal Murugan Temple in Thindal, Erode, Tamil Nadu, is a very peaceful and beautiful place to visit. The temple is built on a small hill and offers a lovely view of Erode city. Climbing up is easy, and the cool breeze makes it a pleasant experience. The main deity, Lord Murugan, looks divine and powerful, bringing peace and positivity to everyone who visits. The temple is clean and well maintained, and the priests are kind and helpful. When I visited, some construction work was going on, which shows that the temple is being improved for devotees. There is car parking available, but it is limited, so visiting early or on weekdays is better. The temple is near a busy traffic area, but it’s easy to reach, and there is a bus stop nearby for those using public transport. The morning and evening atmosphere is very calm and spiritual with beautiful chants. Overall, a must-visit temple in Erode for peace, devotion, and blessings.

Beautiful and peaceful Murugan temple on a small hill in Erode. The temple offers a very calm and divine atmosphere, especially during early mornings and evenings. Climbing the steps is easy and gives a great view of the city from the top. The place is always clean and well-maintained. There's enough parking space for both two-wheelers and cars. Special occasions like Thai Poosam or Panguni Uthiram are celebrated very nicely here. The golden chariot (Thanga Ther) procession in the evening is a must-see. Overall, it's a perfect place to visit with family and spend some quiet time in prayer and peace.

Namakkal Sree Anjaneyar Temple

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Temple with a roofless sanctum housing a large statue of Lord Hanuman, adorned with flower garlands.
A beautiful temple. It may appear to be small but it's a big one and open type of temple. The line is quick and fast moving. You can literally see the god from any place you stand within the temple compound in front. They give vada as well after the darshan. Parking is there nearby at walkable distance in an open ground.

One of the world famous Sri Anjaneya temples which is open to the sky. People can worship the lord for free and the statue will be easily visible from the main entrance. Lord Vinayagar temple is situated at the entrance on the right side. Betel leaf 🌿 garland is offered for prayers to the lord. Limited parking 🅿️ facilities only available. The temple is now fully surrounded by streets. The temple has a book 📖 store and a television 📺 which plays about the lord. DoV: 220225.

The Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple is quite remarkable the sheer height and open to sky nature of the idol give it a very special feel. It strikes a balance between being accessible it is in town, visible and yet retaining a strong spiritual aura. It’s definitely worth visiting if you are interested in Hindu temple architecture, Hanuman worship, or serene pilgrimage spots in Tamil Nadu. If I were to rate it from reviews and impressions, probably 4.5 / 5 — high in devotion, significance, and experience; small deductions for crowd + parking challenges. You dedicated parking 🅿️ w available insideneed to go further inside.

Namakkal Sree Anjaneyar Temple is one of the most divine and spiritually uplifting places to visit in Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, standing tall in an awe-inspiring 18-foot idol in the open sky without a roof, which is believed to signify his strength and devotion. The majestic figure of Lord Hanuman exudes an aura of peace, power, and positivity that immediately touches devotees. The temple is very well maintained, with clean surroundings and an orderly queue system for darshan. Priests perform rituals with great devotion, and the chanting of mantras fills the atmosphere with spiritual energy. The temple is located close to the famous Namakkal Narasimha Swamy Temple, making it a perfect spiritual circuit for devotees. Another highlight is the serene environment around the temple—free from commercial hustle—allowing visitors to feel deeply connected. Special poojas and Hanuman Jayanthi celebrations draw huge crowds, and the energy is truly divine. Overall, it is not just a temple but a place where one feels inner strength, faith, and peace. A must-visit for anyone traveling near Namakkal.

During my recent journey to Namakkal, I had the privilege of visiting the awe-inspiring Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple, renowned for its 18-foot tall monolithic statue of Lord Hanuman—one of the tallest in South.

This temple is of a large sized boon giving Anjaneya in standing posture. Here Anjaneya with folded hands, is facing the sannidhi of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha across the road. Regular Pujas and Thirumanjanams are held to this deity by aspiring devotees - including betel leaves mala, sandal paste, white butter, vadamala etc. A must visit temple in Namakkal & a popular Parihara sthalam.

Aagaya Gangai water falls

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the stunning Kolli Hills, Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls is a breathtaking destination that promises an unforgettable adventure. This natural wonder features crystal-clear waters cascading over lush green rocks, creating a serene and enchanting atmosphere. The journey to the falls involves descending approximately 1,032 steps, which can be quite challenging but ultimately rewarding as you are greeted by the mesmerizing views and refreshing mist of the waterfall.
The water fall is very beautiful and high. There are 1200 steps one side to reach the base of the waterfall which is steep and tiring, but it’s worth it. Must visit spot when you are planning to track the amazing 70 hairpins of the Kolli hills.

Not a falls person but this made me one. It was majestic, spectacular and huge. We had to climb down steep steps of 1100 steps to get down there. Getting up again might be difficult. But it's worth the trip. Literally the best falls in Tamil Nadu imo.

Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls – A Breathtaking Adventure Worth Every Effort!!! Visiting “Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls” in the “Kolli Hills” was an unforgettable experience—a perfect mix of natural beauty and an adventurous trek! The waterfall itself is absolutely mesmerising, with crystal-clear water cascading down lush green rocks, creating a serene and almost magical atmosphere. The sound of the falls, the cool mist in the air, and the surrounding dense forest make it feel like a hidden paradise. However, reaching the falls is “not for the faint-hearted!” The descent involves “around 1,200 steep steps”, and while the views along the way are stunning, the climb down (and especially back up) is quite challenging. The steps can be slippery, so wearing “good trekking shoes” is a must. There are a few resting spots along the way, but be prepared for a strenuous workout. If you’re not used to long treks, take it slow and carry enough water. Once you reach the bottom, the sight of the “powerful waterfall” makes every step worth it! The pool at the base is perfect for a refreshing dip, though the currents can be strong, so caution is needed. The untouched beauty of the place makes it feel like a secret escape from the world. Tips for future visitors: ✅ Start early to avoid the midday heat. ✅ Carry snacks, water, and a change of clothes. ✅ Wear “non-slip shoes” the steps can be treacherous. ✅ If you have knee or mobility issues, reconsider the trek. The journey back up is even harder, so pace yourself. But honestly, the sheer beauty of Aagaya Gangai makes the struggle worthwhile. It’s one of the most stunning waterfalls in Tamil Nadu, and the sense of accomplishment after completing the trek is unbeatable! “Highly recommended for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts” just be prepared for a tough but rewarding experience! 🌿💦 Would I visit again? Absolutely! (But maybe after some leg training! 😆)

Kolli Hills: A Paradise for Nature Lovers If you're a nature enthusiast, Kolli Hills is a must-visit destination. Among its many attractions, the breathtaking Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls stands out. Located just a few kilometers from the city center, you can easily reach the entry point to the falls by car or bike. The Tamil Nadu Forest Department charges a nominal entry fee of ₹25 per person. From the entry, you'll need to descend about 600-900 steps to reach the waterfall. While the trek can be a bit challenging, the stunning views of nature along the way make it feel like a dream. The falls themselves are nothing short of spectacular. Towering and powerful, the cascading water resembles fine powder pouring from the top of the hill. The spray from the falls is so intense that it feels like standing in a gentle rain—an experience that will leave you mesmerized. Tips for Visitors: Wear raincoats and use waterproof mobile covers. Avoid carrying electronic gadgets unless they are well-protected from water. Aagaya Gangai is truly a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Kolli Hills. (This review is based on my personal experience.)

The walk down and up the 1200+ steps is worth for the view. It’s sad though to see the trash of plastics, clothes, etc. We seriously lack civic sense to maintain our nature.

1008 Shiva & Rajarajeshwari Temple Salem

Mentioned on

Hindu temple

Sacred & Religious Sites
The 1008 Shiva Temple in Salem is a Hindu temple complex dedicated to Shiva, featuring an array of 1008 identical Nandi statues carved from stone. The main highway runs close by, but the temple can only be reached at the top of the hill. In addition to the impressive lingas and nandis, there are also other allied group temples such as Perumal Temple.
Nestled in the serene surroundings of Ariyanoor, near Salem, the 1008 Lingam Temple offers an ideal escape for those seeking peace, silence, and spiritual rejuvenation. Surrounded by lush greenery and well-maintained natural beauty, this sacred site invites visitors into a tranquil journey of devotion and inner calm. The walk to the top of the mountain is both refreshing and reflective, with every curve of the pathway lined with Shiv Lingas and Nandi statues. Along the way, you’ll encounter various deities that enrich the spiritual atmosphere — from Lord Ganesha welcoming you at the entrance, to temples dedicated to Lord Rama, Jai Hanuman, Lord Shiva with Subramanyam, and the powerful Shakthi Devi. The entire trail is embraced by green plants and tall trees, adding to the sense of serenity. At the summit, a majestic 17-meter statue of Sri Umayambigai Sametha Sri Arunachala Sundareswara overlooks the hills, offering not just panoramic views but a deeply calming presence. The peaceful ambiance and sacred energy make this temple a perfect destination for those wishing to disconnect from the chaos and reconnect with their inner self.
Pranurish Z — Google review
About the temple It’s a relatively modern temple (built around 2010) under the care of the Vinayaka Mission. It has 1008 Shiva lingams arranged such that 1007 surround a central lingam, with a statue of Nandi in front. On the hilltop, the main shrine houses Sri Umaiyambigai Samedha Sri Arunachala Sundareswara. The temple is located on Salem’s bypass road, in Ariyanoor, about 14 km from Salem city centre. Timings There is some variation in reported timings. Here are the credible ones: According to Salem district’s official temple list: 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tamil Nadu Tourism brochure also lists the same timings: 7:30 am–12:30 pm & 4:00 pm–8:00 pm Some sources say it opens from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm (for general viewing) One devotional blog suggests 5:00 am to 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm From TripAdvisor Q&A: for main deity pooja, best between 9:00 am–11:00 am and 5:00 pm–8:00 pm Given these, the official timings (7:30 am–12:30 pm, 4:00 pm–8:00 pm) seem most reliable. Best time to visit Morning (soon after opening) is ideal: cooler, quieter, less crowded. Evening is also pleasant, especially during dusk, when the light and surroundings are serene. The winter months (November to February) are often recommended as the best time to visit (milder weather) Avoid midday in hot months, as heat and direct sun may make the walk up less comfortable

A Serene and Divine Discovery in Salem !! I truly regret having missed this divine place during my previous travels through Salem. This is a serene and peaceful location, nestled amidst nature and adorned with numerous Shiva Lingas, offering a truly calming and spiritually enriching experience. The temple provides convenient car parking with two options. You can either park at the bottom and enjoy a peaceful walk up the small hill, or take the Vinayaka Missions entrance to drive directly to the top. I highly recommend starting from the bottom, parking your vehicle, and beginning your ascent from the Vinayagar shrine. This place is a beautiful confluence of faiths, featuring shrines for all in one location. The atmosphere is incredibly calm and divine, filling you with a sense of tranquility and good vibes. When you're traveling through Salem, I urge you to take the time to visit this spot. You will be pleasantly surprised by the breathtaking views and the powerful, positive energy of the place.

A serene spiritual experience perched on a hill, this temple features an enchanting walkway lined with 1008 Shiva lingams and Nandi statues. The complex is clean, well-maintained, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding greenery. The ascent is pleasant whether you walk or drive, and the inner sanctum has a powerful aura. Some visitors note minor upkeep issues, but overall it’s a must-visit for those seeking peace and devotion.
Shivani P — Google review
Peaceful, unique, and beautifully laid out. Walking the pathway past row after row of Shiva lingams with a majestic central sanctum feels meditative—even on a busy day. The campus is clean, signage is clear, and darshan usually moves smoothly. Families and seniors will appreciate the benches and shaded stretches; kids get excited spotting the numbered lingams. What I liked: calm priests, tidy prakarams, and the satisfying “parikrama” loop where you can complete a quiet round of prayer without jostle. Plenty of photo-worthy angles in the open courtyard (avoid the sanctum for photos). Good to know: mornings and late evenings are cooler; afternoons can be hot in the open areas—carry water. Parking is straightforward near the entrance. Dress modestly, and keep small change/UPI handy for archana/prasadam. Tip: do one slow clockwise round touching each pillar/lingam cluster with your right hand—it turns the visit into a mindful walk. Secret tip: after the main darshan, stand a few minutes at the far end of the courtyard and look back toward the central shrine—the symmetry of the 1008 lingams lining up to the sanctum is the most serene frame of the temple. 🙏

1008 Lingam Temple near Salem is a must-visit when traveling from Chennai to Coimbatore or Ooty. It’s a really big temple — walking inside itself takes more than 30 minutes. The unique part is that it’s a drive-in temple, you can take your vehicle inside and go around for darshan. Very peaceful, clean, and well maintained with a beautiful hill view.”
