Izumo Daijingu, a centuries-old Shinto shrine located in Chitose-cho, is believed to bring good fortune to couples. The shrine was constructed in 709 as a place to enshrine the guardian of Mt. Unlike other Shinto shrines that share the name Izumo and enshrine a divided tutelary deity of Izumo Taisha, this individual entity does not belong to Izumo Taisha of Shimane.
Beautiful shrine with a lot of maple leaves. Be careful as they laid out some designs on the floor using maple leaves. You can make purchases for amulets and card to write blessings.

Izumo Daijingu : Tamba Izumi Daijingu Shrine is located in the central part of the course of Shichifukujin Meguri Tour in Chitose-cho. The structure of the shrine was originally built in 709. In ancient times the moluntain behind the shrine ( Mt. Mikage ) itself was considered a sacred place, therefore the shrine was established in this place to enshrine its guardian. Despite there are many other shinto shrines nationwide holding a name of Izumo by enshrining a divided tutelary deity of Izumo Taisha ( the main deity held in the head of Izumo ), this Izumo Taisha does not belong to Izumo Taisha of Shimane. The shrine is an individual entity. ( Trans-word+ TGM Kyoto Guide )

Shopping Malls
Universal Citywalk Osaka is a vibrant commercial entertainment complex located near Universal Studios Japan. It features over 50 shops, restaurants, and hotels in the style of an American shopping mall. The lively atmosphere along the path to Universal Studios Japan adds to the excitement of visiting this area. With its convenient location between USJ and the nearest JR station, it's a popular spot for theme park-goers to grab a bite or shop for souvenirs.
It’s nice to have this mall before entering & after leaving USJ so you have many choices to buy gifts & souvenirs and also lot of food stores & restaurants. They also have heater stand to keep you warm during cold days/winter season.

Doesn't need a definition for what it is. A nice big complex across the road from Universal studios. Got lots of shops selling stuffed toys and restaurants with tasty cuisines from all corners of the world. You may not get time to visit Universal Citywalk after an entire day at Universal Studios. The place is more appealing during the night and if you're a tourist in Osaka, a smarter way to do it would be to visit Osaka aquarium in the late afternoon and take the 6 pm ferry from Kaiyukan to Universal Citywalk which is only 10 mins and arrive just in time for how visually delightful it is after darkness kicks in spend a couple of hours and call it a day
Eber S — Google review
A pretty fun city walk with a lot of shops and restaurants. It’s not really crowded on a weekday afternoon. You can enjoy food and shopping here even without going to universal studios. Easy to access from the train station. A good place to go with the whole family.
ML — Google review
Feels a little like Orlando’s & LA’s but smaller. Restaurants on the second floor and convenience store right outside the metro station. Restaurants ranging from Ramen to Starbucks to Takoyakis and even bubble tea stores are available. There’s a huge GAP outlet with customization service available right at the entrance area as well. If you’re leaving at closing time for the park, the train and station will be very packed and crowded. CityWalk’s pretty nice in the night with all the lights. Nothing too fancy or noteworthy.
Cameron G — Google review
Similar layout to the Orlando and Hollywood Citywalks with lots of dining options, shopping, arcade games (gacha machines) etc. This is their only onsite hotel and it's just a quick walk to the park entrance.
Jenn L — Google review
There's a Ferry terminal infront of Universal Port Hotel nearby to go to Kaiyukan Osaka Aquarium & Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel.

We love our Universals and definitely love Citywalk. It has plenty of options for food and park shopping in case you missed getting something in the parks or just want something without purchasing admission. We loved that there were combinis as well adding a nice Japanese touch to the park. The Bikuri Donkey we ate at was great ending our quick stint there perfectly!
Sam W — Google review
City Walk is the plaza prior to entering Universal Studios. This is the first thing you see when you get off the train, which is how I arrived here. There are numerous floors with ample food and shopping options along with hotels. This was great way to begin my first trip to Disney!

Tempozan Ferris Wheel

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel in Osaka is a must-visit attraction, standing at 112.5 meters tall and offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. With a diameter of 100 meters, it's one of the world's largest Ferris wheels and can accommodate up to 480 passengers in its 60 cabins. Located just a short walk from Osakako Station and adjacent to the Kaiyukan aquarium, this iconic landmark provides an unforgettable experience for visitors.
Ok so I did go on an afternoon in the summer holidays in August so the queue was about 40 mins but I didn’t have to book ahead. The ride is incredible, weirdly thrilling because of the rocking of the gondolas as you go up. Whole ride is about 30 mins to go all the way round which I think is great value, and inside the gondolas they have little maps in each direction to point out the sights etc Honestly really fun, and right next to the an aquarium. I went on a whim because the aquarium tickets were sold out for the day and it really turned my day around. Thank you Tempozan Ferris Wheel, you really turned my frown upside down.
Safiyah H — Google review
Really enjoyed this little excursion. Used the Osaka Amazing Pass as tickets , queue was empty, chose the transparent carriage. The whole thing took 15mins and it was nice to see the shine. Can also see universal studios in the distance. Highly recommend it
Ayesha A — Google review
This is my second ferris wheel ride in Osaka after the Hep five in Umeda. The entrance area is much easier to find, feel more relaxed and less stressful than Hep Five. And I could say I like Tempozan much more. The scenary is great and the view have great balance between shore and the cities. The duration is also perfect. Not too long and not too short, it end exactly when I want it to end. The ticket price is okay I think it's a good way to pass time if you're waiting for your entry to the Kaiyukan Aquarium or Santa Maria cruise as these three location is very close to each other.
Sean F — Google review
Riding the Tempozan Ferris Wheel was an incredible experience. Located near Osaka’s bay area, the Ferris wheel offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, Osaka Bay, and on clear days, even Mount Ikoma and Akashi Kaikyō Bridge in the distance. The ride is smooth and relaxing, and the cabins are spacious and well-maintained, making it comfortable for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. I especially enjoyed seeing the city lights sparkle in the evening — it was truly magical. The area around the Ferris wheel, including Tempozan Marketplace and Tempozan Park, adds to the fun, making it easy to spend a few hours exploring before or after the ride.
Neil A — Google review
I personally think the Tempozan Ferris Wheel is a great place for couples to experience together! 🎡 The adult ticket costs only 900 yen, which is quite affordable, and one full rotation takes about 15 minutes. I recommend going around 4 p.m. or closer to sunset — if the weather is good, you might get to see a beautiful sunset! Inside the cabin, you’ll have your own private space, so you can even play some music to set the perfect mood. It’s especially nice to visit after exploring the aquarium — just time it right and enjoy the ride!
Wei K — Google review
There can be a wait time of 10mins if you choose to take the see-through cart. They maintain high safety standards. Can get a pretty neat glimpse of the osaka aquarium area and the port area and many other places. Would recommend.
Hemanth — Google review
We rode the Tempozan Ferris Wheel and it turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable experience. I’m not usually a fan of ferris wheels, but this one felt very safe and smooth the entire time. The views from the top were beautiful, especially overlooking the bay and city. It’s a simple attraction, but I genuinely enjoyed it more than I expected.
Hastikelen — Google review
World Giant Ferris Wheel which cost ¥900 for Adult. The Ferris Wheel is most spectacular when looking from outside and far with the beautiful lights. Best to ride at night so you can enjoy the view better.

Very cool place. We didn't realize ahead of time how much there is to do here, do wish we had more time! The Ferris wheel was great! There is an aquarium and Lego land, a game zone and shops as well as an awesome food court. Give yourself some time to spend here

Lots to see and do for cruise ships that stop here. The attractions are the Ferris Wheel and Osaka Aquarium. There’s a mall nearby with an arcade, Legoland, food court (includes Subway, KFC and Wendy’s), a convenience store, pharmacy, Daiso, and retail stores. You will also find a train station and local buses. There’s a giraffe made of LEGO nearby.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is one of the largest aquariums globally, featuring diverse marine life from Arctic to tropical regions. The 16+ replicated environments include an Ecuadorian jungle, Tasmanian sea, Monterey Bay, and the Great Barrier Reef. The descending spiral layout showcases tanks representing the Pacific Ocean's ring of fire and houses whale sharks, sea otters, crustaceans, and deep-sea creatures. Visitors can admire jellyfish in tall crystalline tanks at the final exhibit.
The best aquarium I’ve ever been to! There are so many kinds of fish, all displayed in very interesting sections. You can learn a lot here, and it’s a great place to bring kids. There’s a wide variety of fish from different waters — really impressive! I spent more than 2 hours here and still didn’t feel bored at all. I highly recommend buying the ticket from their website instead of at the counter — the line can be super long, and having the online ticket saved me hours of waiting!
Rico P — Google review
This is easily one of the best aquariums we’ve visited. It took us about 3 hours to walk through and explore, and we got to see a wide variety of aquatic species. They also offer a stamp rally, which was a fun bonus. Be sure to bring a blank passport book or some paper so you can collect all the stamps. It's a nice little keepsake to remember your trip.
Wendy L — Google review
We loved our visit here! Lots of animals who seem very well cared for. There is a huuuge central tank with sharks and other fish in which you can see from various angles - it is great to see these big fish have so much space to move and swim. We enjoyed the kids stamp rally here too which was a nice extra. The gift shop was also lovely and very well priced.

As we go on the weekend, we have to buy the ticket at the counter as it was unavailable on klook apps. we got here around 2 hours earlier than opening time and start queing at 9am before they opened on 9.30am. We are the first in line so the wait time are not that long. however, coming later than this might make you wait even longer. the attraction was super good. every window were super cleaned except for penguin area, not sure why tho.. nonetheless, we can see all animal super clear and nice. we started the visit with sea otter, however the otter was lazy as they are still sleeping despite the opening hour 🤣🤣 the seal were super cute and interactive, the dolphin weee also very playful hahaha. the shark looks very mesmerizing and wow, super elegant! oh ya! please dont forget to check out the sunfish as well, so cuteeeee! all area outdoor and indoor was super clean including the toilet, love that very much! all in all, love the visit so much and please dont forget to end your visit with riding the ferris wheel! very much recommended! <3

The Osaka Aquarium is HUGE! I was told to visit it if I was ever in Osaka & I'm glad I did. It was very busy during the day, so we opted to get tickets later in the evening. On one hand, glad we went later on, because it was still busy with people & families. On the other hand, we saw later when the feeding times were & gathered that was one of the reasons why it had peak times. The animals were still relatively active when we went in the evening. There is a wide variety of nautical life & it was beautifully laid out in terms of walking. Seeing the lively animals, regardless of it not being feeding time, they seemed happy in their environments. Osaka Aquarium really cares about the environment of the creatures & continuously works on providng the best possible. It certainly shows in the animals lively behaviour. I left feeling positive about this place. It also had a great gift shop with many of the sea creatures in cute plushy form, so you can take home a little creature of your favorite! There's also themed plates, cups, Keychains & snacks. I highly reccomend visiting Osaka Aquarium. A+++
Issa C — Google review
ABSOLUTELY A MUST. I’ve been to a few Aquariums. This one exhibits sea life along the “ring of fire” of the world, meaning along the coasts of land that line the Pacific Ocean. They had animals from fresh water to artic waters (5 degrees Celsius). Pro tip 1: get your tickets in advance as each time-slot does have limited entries. My family of 4 went on November 14th at 2pm, we thought it is low tourist season but there was still quite a line for same-day tickets. Waiting in like might have taken ~30 minutes and there was a sign that was updated that they just sold out thru 3pm. By luck, I tried to buy same-day tickets via online and was able to grab enough for 3:15pm slot. There is also a small mall so visitors can walk around, shop, eat. There are also other activities such as boat ride, Ferris wheel (maybe 8–10 stories high), so come and hangout more in the area. There are storage lockers at the entrance. Bring $400-1000yen, depending on size. Paying with coins worked best for us. Pro tip 2: Visitors enter in droves every 15 minutes, so the first few exhibits are VERY crowded. The building is built around the main tank in the center of the building which holds giant sharks, stingrays, and whales. The exhibits begin at the top of the tank and spiral downwards so I I suggest you immediately walk past the first 3-5 stations (or floors). Don’t worry you won’t miss too much as there’s still plenty more to enjoy along the little nooks towards the lower floors. There are even benches to sit and watch up against the tank. We planned to spend 1 hour here but ended up enjoying it for 2 hours at a very leisurely pace.
Diana T — Google review
Best aquarium ever. Prebook tickets if possible, or get timed entry tickets at the venue. If you have a waiting time, enjoy delicious food at the Tempozan Market area and maybe do shopping too. Coming to the aquarium, though there is high crowd, it tends to clear very soon and youll get a glimpse of every tank. All tanks are neatly maintained for crystal clear view of the aquatic lifeforms. The central tank is huge and houses multiple types of sharks and the whalesharks (star of the show). We spent 3 hours at the aquarium and 2 hours at the tempozan marketplace. Also, there is a giant ferriswheel nearby for breathtaking view of Osaka port area.
Hemanth — Google review
Fascinating! Great collection of various species. Very interesting! We didn't have a reservation, so we had to wait around 1,5h to enter. Good point that you don't have to wait all this time in the queue (they sell tickets for specific time slot and the queue for that is very fast, I think we spent less than 10 minutes to buy the tickets). There is a market nearby(~3 mins by feet) where you can have lunch while waiting. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded inside, especially in front of the aquariums with some interesting kind of fish but if you wait just a bit, you can fully enjoy the view :)

Amusement park
Universal Studios Japan is a vibrant theme park that brings the magic of beloved American films to life, nestled in the bustling city of Osaka. Since its grand opening in 2001, this expansive park has become a must-visit destination for movie enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. Spanning over 54 hectares, it offers an array of exhilarating rides and attractions inspired by iconic movies and animated characters.
We visited midweek arriving into the park around 8am and it took less than 30 minutes to get in. Would recommend purchasing the Express Pass with timed entries to better plan your trip and ensure you don’t miss out on any of the main rides. We found it was well worth the price. We were able to ride The Dream and Spy Family first with less than 30 min wait times which was great before grabbing an early lunch at Harry Potter. Most people tend to visit Nintendo World first which meant a lot of the queues at the beginning of the day were much shorter. The staff around the entire park are amazing! Every single member of staff we came across were always friendly, joyful and just generally lovely. They really did make the experience that much for enjoyable! The Jurassic ride was closed until the afternoon and when it reopened the queue was luckily about 40 minutes. The longest queue was for Jaws at approx 80 minutes and in our personal opinion, wasn’t that worth it especially as it was later in the evening when we got to ride and the weather turned. We enjoyed the Halloween decor and events that began in the evening and the zombies - so much fun! Overall the park is well organised, the food in the restaurants were good with plenty of choice and dietary requirements. Would love to visit again!

Universal Studios Japan is a wonderful park for both kids and parents. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of energy—the entertainers and staff may look exhausted, but they continuously smile, dance, and greet guests, pouring their energy into the experience. However, the park can get quite crowded. Unless you opt for a VIP pass, expect to wait around 40 minutes for most attractions. As an American theme park located in Japan, the entry fee is about $90, and while many experiences inside are free, you'll need to budget an additional $90 if you want to access the Mario section (which is really aimed at die-hard fans—not necessarily for everyone). Additionally, if you plan to eat, budget around $50 on average for food (one meal). One thing I found disappointing was the lack of affordable costumes or hats. Offering items around $5-$8 for costumes or Mario hats would enhance the park's atmosphere and foster a greater sense of community among visitors. It would also be a nice touch for guests to choose their favorite movie or franchise and receive a corresponding badge. This could create a sense of unity, similar to the houses at Hogwarts, and enrich the overall experience. A highlight of my visit was the mobile app, which conveniently shows wait times for attractions. It's user-friendly and features two mini-games in PWA format—very fun! I believe the park could benefit from even more interactive quests for visitors to enjoy. (For example, searching for objects while traveling in a park to fill out a badge) Overall, I give Universal Studios Japan a 4 out of 5. It would be great to see more affordable souvenirs available to help visitors feel like a part of the studio, as the audience and fans are just as much a part of the movie success as the actors and characters themselves.

WOW. Exceeded expectations!! Tips for a smooth day at USJ: 1. Bring at least one 100 Yen coin for lockers (you’ll get it back). Change machines are available if needed. 2. Arrive early—about 45 minutes before opening—for the rope drop. 3. Hit Flying Dinosaur and the Hollywood rides first before crowds build. 4. Small snacks seem fine to bring in. Pack an empty water bottle to refill throughout the day. NOTE: There are a coiple convenience stores right off the train. 5. Must-do: Nintendo World! Even if just browsing, splurge on the Light-Up Star popcorn purse and a souvenir drink bottle. 6. If budget allows, buy an Express Pass—it makes a huge difference. 7. There's more variety to eat outside of the park, even a Shake Shack! The rest of the park: - Food is fun but mixed—the turkey leg was my standout favorite. - Plenty of characters to meet and endless photo ops. - Transit is simple: just follow the crowds. - The park and all bathrooms are clean spotless, well-organized, and the staff are incredibly warm. They even clap when you return from rides, which adds a joyful touch. Final thought: USJ is a place to enjoy to the fullest—lean into the atmosphere, savor the details, and let the day feel cinematic.

We visited USJ on November 6th (Thursday, weekday) and enjoyed our time there. We purchased express passes for 4 attractions (Flying Dinosaur/Hollywood Dream, Jaws/Jurassic Park, Forbidden Journey, and Mario Kart) and it really saved us time. However, it’s worth mentioning that if you have evening slots for designated zones/attractions, you don’t need to come early like we did. We had a slot for Forbidden Journey at 18:30 and Nintendo World at 20:00, and arrived at the park at 11:00. There was almost no waiting time to enter the park, up to 10 minutes maximum. Honestly, we visited all the interesting attractions with our pass within several hours and were just wandering around waiting for our time slots, even though we stood in a 40-minutes standard queue for Hollywood dream. In our opinion, only these attractions are worth visiting and waiting in queue: Flying Dinosaur, Hollywood Dream, Forbidden Journey (this attraction surprised us a lot!). Mario Kart and Jaws didn’t meet our expectations and honestly can be easily skipped. Also, if you don’t want to pay extra for express passes, you may want to visit popular zones like Nintendo World, Harry Potter and Kong in the evening. At 8pm there were almost no crowds in the Nintendo and Kong zones, and waiting time for attractions without passes was about 20-30 minutes. Though we generally enjoyed our experience, I deducted one star for overpriced food and merch. If you visit the Harry Potter Studio in Tokyo as well, consider purchasing your merch there — it’s way less expensive. Also, I brought my wand purchased at Warner Bros. Studio in Tokyo to the Harry Potter zone to try out some wand interactions, but it only worked with wands purchased at USJ, which felt like a money drain. On the positive side, the park staff were amazing, they were extremely encouraging and created a cheerful mood for our day.

One of the best themeparks in the world, probably better than disneyland too. Would recommend prebooking your tickets a month prior for a weekday. Also, would highly recommend getting the express pass 7 to cover all the high-thrill rides. The park itself is very convinient to travel through and from anywhere in Osaka, thanks to public transport (JR and Subway). Tip - if youre not buying the express pass, head to the park enterance 1 hour before the official opening time so you can access the supernintendo world/donkey kong land for free (else you need a timed ticket which is hard to get)

I had never been to a Universal park before, and I confess I even cried with emotion when I entered. I loved the experience and the immersion in this very whimsical and cool universe. In Super Nintendo World, you truly feel like you are inside the games, and all the staff pays special attention to ensure the experience. We would find an attendant, and because it was Halloween month, we would say 'trick or treat' and receive candy or a sticker. At the end, we went to the customer service center and asked for the stamp, and the lady brought it to us on top of a beautiful red velvet cushion and even gave us a '1st time visiting' sticker. Incredible! The park was not on its busiest day, but even so, the lines were super long (up to 2 hours), but every ride was worth it. Next time, I will definitely buy the Express Pass to be able to enjoy all the attractions calmly. I loved the experience

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Universal Studios Japan is an incredible theme park with amazing attractions, immersive worlds, and some of the best entertainment you’ll find anywhere. The attention to detail in areas like Super Nintendo World and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is outstanding, and the rides are a perfect mix of fun, thrills, and nostalgia. Crowds can be intense, and waiting times get long—especially for the most popular rides—so buying Express Passes is almost essential if you want to make the most of your day. Food options are fun and thematic, though prices are on the higher side, which is normal for major theme parks. Overall, USJ delivers a fantastic experience full of energy, creativity, and unforgettable moments. Just plan ahead and prepare for long lines.

Beyond the famous rides, what I loved most about USJ were the small details people rarely mention. The staff are incredibly friendly and really stay in character, which adds so much fun to the day. The park is very clean and well-organised, and even the queues are beautifully themed with lots of little details and props to enjoy while waiting. It’s also very family-friendly, with clear signs, helpful crew members, and easy navigation. Even the food stands are well run and thoughtfully themed. Overall, USJ’s attention to detail and amazing staff make the whole experience feel magical from start to finish. Would definitely visit again!

Katsuoji

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks

Nestled on a mountainside in Minoh City, Japan, Katsuoji Temple is a centuries-old Buddhist temple renowned for its stunning fall colors and thousands of red Daruma dolls. The temple is not only a place of natural beauty but also a symbol of luck and victory, with visitors dedicating the iconic dharma dolls to pray for success.
This was a very beautiful temple especially in autumn. The stamp rally was really fun and a good addition to my scrap book. The stamps also had good ink in them so they weren’t weak like the eki ones.. It’s easy to get a bus to the station (the bus is a bit pricey tho prewarning, 800 yen one way and 1600 return). It’s easy to get a taxi from outside to other places also - we went to the minoh falls afterwards which was really beautiful. It is hard to walk anywhere from the temple though, expect to walk around one hour or more. The price for entry was good and comes with the stamp rally card. I think charging for an extra adult entry ticket to get another stamp card is a bit cheeky. If you want to go to a cafe afterwards there isn’t one inside the temple visitor centre but I saw signs outside pointing to one. I really wanted a coffee and got one from the vending machine, it was too late by the time I saw the signs so putting it here as a good to know! :) One thing I didn’t like was how busy it was, it was hard to slow down and enjoy the peace of the temple with so many tourists, then again we did arrive for 12pmish which, judging from google, seems to be the peak visiting time- i would recommend going earlier or later to get a better experience. The dark a castella cakes also only come in a portion of 33, smaller portion options would be much better.

I would rate this as up their as far as temples go, we went late in the afternoon and caught the last bus home. A beautiful sunny day, low crowd and spectacular gardens, waterways and shrines. Absolutely loved it. The history about the Daruma hit home for me and the sheer numbers of them for effort puts life of all into perspective so many people hoping for some luck and happiness. The postcard with stamping stations was a great touch. Well worth a visit. As always the Japanese staff where respectful, helpful and amazing, loved it bit i do love simple and quiet 🤙

This temple is absolutely stunning! I highly recommend going early in the morning, as it was not crowded at all, which made the experience much more peaceful and enjoyable. The atmosphere was perfect for photography; you can get some truly beautiful shots here. The leaves are just beginning to change color, adding a lovely seasonal touch to the scenery. A note on parking: The parking fee is quite high at 1000 yen for 2 hours, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

Absolutely worth a 1/2 - full day trip to the Katsuoji on the outskirts of Osaka. Easily accessible by train and then a shuttle bus ride. Very orderly and helpful staff at station. Katsuoji is a truly fun and meaningful temple whether you are Buddhists or just visiting tourists. Super scenic, great fengshui, lots of space for everyone even on weekends. 📍 the stamps stations make it orderly & fun for visits: 1st station has the longest lines if you want a photo. 📍 Thousands of Daruma in all sizes in the temple grounds. 📍 Commercial - yes! lots of daruma souvenirs & food omiyage to bring home. 📌 Goshuiin collectors - so precious and sincere ‘writers’ 📌 Wish-making darumas - -Whether you buy one and follow ritual to make your wish. Choice to bring home & return. May all of your wishes come true and abundance prosperity to all 💫💫💫

There is an entrance fee of 500 yen per adult, which includes a stamp card. Everyone gets a postcard souvenir, which makes this place fun and engaging! This is by far one of the most well-planned temple experiences I’ve seen. The landscaping is thoughtfully designed, and the walking route is clearly laid out. Set aside about 1.5 hours to enjoy the scenery and complete all the 6/6 stamp station.

Absolutely go. This location is absolutely beautiful. It has a fun interactive stamp stations for a postcard. You can get your temple stamp here also. It is so impressive to watch them right out the date and blessing. There are also Dorie(?) sponge cakes 33 for ¥900. They are hot and delicious! The views are absolutely stunning, be sure to plan plenty of time for this visit. If you're looking to purchase souvenirs there is not much of a selection here. Oh I almost forgot, there are a lot of stairs at the beginning.

My most favourite temple we visited while in Japan. It is definitely a journey from central Kyoto to get here however it is worth it for all the incredible aspects you get to experience once you arrive. Make sure to plan lots of time (I would give your self at least 2 hours at the Temple itself, not including travel time) to really soak in everything this wonderful place has to offer. Each type of Japanese Daruma doll signifies something different and at this Buddhist Temple, you will find the red Daruma doll (I won’t spoil its meaning as there is lots of information once you are at Katsuoji). Included in your admission ticket is a stamp rally card that you can collect at different points throughout your visit. They also have Goshuin near the Temple itself where you will also find stunning views of the landscape. Highly recommend a stop here during your Kyoto adventures!!

Katsuo-ji Temple in Osaka is truly something special. The moment you arrive, the breathtaking location and peaceful surroundings wash over you. The atmosphere is unbelievable — calm, spiritual, and full of character, with thousands of daruma watching over the temple grounds. Walking through the pathways gives you a deep emotional feeling that’s hard to put into words, like you’re connected to something bigger. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave. A must-visit for anyone looking for beauty, culture, and a powerful, heartfelt experience....

Minoh National Park, also known as Minoh Falls or Minoo Park, is a stunning natural attraction located near Mt. Minoh in Osaka Prefecture. The park is famous for its 33-meter-high waterfall, which has been a site of meditation for over 1300 years. Visitors can enjoy riverside walks, Buddhist temples, and vibrant fall foliage in the vast forested area.
Great parc, great hike to the waterfalls. Lots of insects and sole wild animals you can observe if you pay attention. Careful with monkeys, you have signs all around the park telling you not to feed them. Take your time while hiking to enjoy the scenary.

It took us around an hour to reach at the waterfall walking casually. We tried cinnamon coffee with tuna sandwich in a cafe on the way. We had beer and chicken burger at the restaurant near the fall. It was a sunny day, had it been little cloudy, the journey would have been much better. But we enjoyed, took so many pictures.

Super pretty hike and it’s so worth it to come. We took the bus to Katsuo-ji then trek the car trail towards Minoh Falls and trek down to Hankyu-Minoh station. I think it’s not as tiring as it sounds to be as it’s all downhill and the view is super pretty. The other way round can be harder as it will be up hill.

This park was a beautiful calming walk- we visited Katsuoji temple, took a taxi to the fountain and walked from there to the station. It wasn’t a difficult walk at all with options for slope or steps. The autumn foliage was beautiful and the park allowed for amazing scenery with great lighting through the foliage. There are toilets dotted throughout the route with several cafes, stalls and restaurants also spread out along the route. Very peaceful day

pretty popular place for locals and tourists. hike was kind of steep but the had plenty of resting space for you to catch your breath and enjoy the views before you hike another slope. there are vendors that sells oden, taiyaki, drinks and dango. there are toilets along the hiking path. at the waterfall area they sell yuzu drinks and ice cream. i couldn't find the fried maples leaves at the waterfall area, is better that you buy it before you start hiking. also buy the roasted chestnuts before the hike, they do not sell those on the mountain areas.

Approx 2.8km walk from Minoo station to see the waterfalls. Wheelchair accessible but will definitely be a challenge bec of the uphill climb. We’re able to visit pushing my 5 year old kid on a stroller. So nice to visit during autumn, lots of colorful trees and the waterfalls are well lit at night too.

Minoh Falls, also known as Minoh Waterfall, is a magnificent 33-meter-high natural wonder nestled in the northern outskirts of Osaka, Japan. Situated within the picturesque Minoh Quasi-National Park, this stunning waterfall offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nature through a scenic hike surrounded by lush deciduous trees and forested mountains. The best times to visit are during spring when cherry blossoms adorn the hiking trail and create a picturesque setting.
Beautiful park, totally worth to walk from the falls to Minoh Station (about 3km). I guess the sights will be picturesque in autumn when all the maple leaves turn red. Easy trail with lots of tea shops, snacks that you can enjoy along the way. The signature dishes are grilled fish and maple leaf tempura.

It's a lovely place. The hike is quite nice and there's a bunch of antique souvenir shops along the way if you're into that. Please go here if you are a geek about old things and nature. There's yummy ice cream, though a bit expensive, next to the fall.

We decided not to hike to the falls and instead caught a cab to the falls and walked back down. The falls were very relaxing and the air was very cool on a warm day. There were bathrooms, food, snacks and drinks at the falls. It wasn’t very busy at 10am on a Monday. The walk back down was an easy walk that ran along a stream. We seen snakes and lots of praying mantis and horse hair worms!. Although there were warning signs of monkeys we didn’t see any. There are a few places of interest along the way including a temple, an insectarium, and a few other shops and monuments. A good break away from the hustle and bustle of Osaka

I still cannot believe that this magnificent place is just 60mins from Osaka City. The walk from Minoh station to the Falls is quite easy to moderate (moderate for someone who’s not used to long distance walking) and it takes around 40mins. I did this walk very early am on Tuesday 28th of October and the nature was beautiful. When you arrive at Falls, the feeling was spectacular and breathtaking. From the Falls you can walk to the nearby parking area (marked in google maps “Dainichi Parking Lot”) around 15mins and you can pick up a taxi to take you to Katsuoji temple (only 5mins by car). I had to take my flight from Itami that day, so I took a taxi again from Katsuoji temple to Minoh station as I did not have plenty of time to spend (very convenient by the way - there are taxis outside waiting at Katsuoji temple). My only regret is that I didn’t take at least a selfie or exchanging contacts with a wonderful lady I met at Falls (Erica エリカさん), she was so nice to me and I wish I had the time to spend that day for having a lunch or a coffee. Many regards from Eleni エレニ Japanese-Greek friend!

A good spot to visit if you are visiting Katsouji Temple. The waterfall was beautiful to visit. There are small stalls selling fish and ice-cream. There is a small restuarant that have a variety of bentos and seating available to eat (benches at the front of the waterfall) and if you're eating at the restaurant. Getting here - there's no public transport to get to and from this location. From Katsouji, it's about a 6 min car ride from here. Parking is available near the walkway to Minoh Falls. Or you can walk for 25 mins - which I did going to this location. The walkway to the waterfall is fairly easy but coming back up it will have you out of breath.

Very nice, but as expected there was a number of people there despite it being a weekday afternoon and raining the whole day. Thankfully not the insane crowds like in Fushimi Inari for example. Unfortunately I visited just a few days too early for the leaves to become red, the autumn seems to be very late this year If you have time and not afraid to walk for an hour or two, take the scenic trail up to the falls, it starts near the ichinohashi bridge in the south (the trail itself is marked as 滝道 on google maps). It's a very easy paved hike with stunning views, bunch of places to eat at along the way, and optional observatories at the hilltops if you feel like climbing some steep mountain stairs.

Beautiful surroundings but beware of wasps. There are signs to warn you. The fall was nice. Downhill all the way to get there but grab a snack or drinks on the way out because it will be uphill all the way back. About 3 km from Katsuoji temple. We had a car rental so very easy to get to after the temple. However, we saw many people walk from the temple to the falls. They looked very tired but seems like a doable walk when not too hot/humid.

If you're a shopping enthusiast, the りんくうプレミアム・アウトレット mall is definitely worth a visit while you're in the kansai region. This outlet offers year-round sales and never disappoints shoppers. It's conveniently located near the train station and easily accessible via walkway. For those with larger feet, this mall is an excellent option as they offer shoes up to 30cm and their staff are friendly and helpful.
20250325 Always excellent to have a big outlet near the airport so we could shop till the last minutes. It is very big and has two big areas of shops on both sides of the road. Probably need to pre-read more information to save time. No all shops do tax-free and discount varies at different time, so don't expect big bargains. There is a big seaside area for family members who don't shop. Nice view. The only problem was that we didn't know how to claim free parking.

Rinku Town Premium Outlet is much bigger than I expected and such an easy place to shop. They have a good mix of popular labels and smaller niche brands, and the prices are quite reasonable — you can easily spend the whole day here without getting bored. The food court is also worth a stop. A simple rule works perfectly here: if you see a long line, the food is almost guaranteed to be good. I happened to visit during the Osaka Art Fireworks, and it made the experience even more memorable. The weather by the seaside was cool and refreshing, and the fireworks were stunning. If you’re lucky enough to catch the show while you’re here, don’t hesitate — it’s absolutely worth watching.

One of the smallest and worst shopping malls I have ever visited in Japan. Disappointed with the amount of shops and quality they had within the mall. I ended up leaving within an hour after having lunch.

NODOKA

Lounge
Airport Lounges
1 free food and 1 free alcoholic beverage to choose from. They also give you choice of rooms when you check-in. We got beef curry and shrimp pilaf. Beef curry was good - tad sweeter side. The lemon alcoholic drink was good - carbonated and refreshing. There are plenty of space to sleep, work, and chat. They also provide blankets and slippers. There are 3 beverage machines that has various coffee, latte, tea, and soft drink to choose from. We loved our stay. So much better than overcrowded priority lounges in US.
Flora L — Google review
Very convenient location between T1/T2 and they have great deals! You can choose room type, also 2 choices from 3 options(i.e. Shower, meals, or drinks) I used their shower, it was great service before the night flight. (minimum amenity and it's ok, there was mold though).
L — Google review
The place is clean, cozy and quiet perfect for relaxation and for those working or studying. Has different rooms that caters to different needs, they have area for sleeping, cubicles for those who are working. Had Spaghetti for breakfast and coffee from the vending machine. Staff are very welcoming and respectful.

This place together with the other three in Osaka most probably a rip-off. This place is only a shower better than Kongo. Our Osaka experience is exceptional and we will come back to the City of Osaka but not in Nodoka unless it will have a new management. Pray Priority Pass will read our review.

An option for a relaxing lounge outside the airport and security gates. Free hot and cold drinks included. Private room available for around 30000yen per person on a week day. Suitable for longer waits at airport as seating at departure section before security is almost non existing.

This is a review for the Narita airport 24hr Nodoka cafe. I landed quite early in the morning and had heaps of time before my hotel checkin, and found this cozy spot to freshen myself up before the long ride to the city so I don’t have to smell like recycled airplane air. Clean showers with spacious and quiet space so I got to do some work and admin like figuring out how to turn on my eSIM! Totally recommend to have a quick stop here and shower, get your thoughts together and adventure into Tokyo!!
Melvin S — Google review
Nice place to freshen up yourself before boarding. You can get to shower and have a meal. The beef curry is not bad, rice is nice and curry is good. There’s very little beef though.
Randy N — Google review
The only reason I'm giving a 4 star rating is because the private lounges don't have a screen / curtain to cover the entrance. It was a bit awkward to see across into other private lounges. Otherwise it was clean and well maintained. I didn't really eat food here, so can't comment on it. It was ¥4,800 for a 6 hour private lounge. The toilets were clean, and had access to drinks machines for free.

Factory Outlets
Kobe Sanda Premium Outlets is a modern shopping center located in Kobe, Japan, designed after the exclusive residential area of Pasadena near Los Angeles. It's the second largest outlet mall in Japan and houses around 210 high-end brand shops from both Japanese and international retailers. The outlets offer a wide range of stores including famous foreign brands like GUCCI and PRADA, as well as domestic brands such as UNITED ARROWS and BEAMS.
We paid ¥11.140 one way for a taxi from the Sheraton hotel to get here, but you guys could also take the bus. There are numerous luxury brands accessible here. And it's an outstanding reduction. I got a 70% discount on December 8th. Worth it to visit.
Baliana — Google review
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Amazing Shopping Experience at Kobe-Sanda Premium Outlets! If you love shopping for great deals in a beautiful and relaxing setting, this is the place to go! Kobe-Sanda Premium Outlets offers a wide selection of both international and Japanese brands at discounted prices. The layout of the outlet is spacious, clean, and feels like a mini resort, making it enjoyable to walk around even if you're not planning to buy much. There are plenty of well-known brands like Nike, Adidas, Coach, Kate Spade, Onitsuka Tiger, and even luxury options like Prada and Gucci. I was especially happy to find great deals at Uniqlo and The North Face. The atmosphere is calm and not too crowded, even on weekends. The food court has many delicious options, and there are clean restrooms, helpful staff, and lockers for storage if needed. The views of the surrounding mountains also add to the relaxing vibe. Access from Kobe or Osaka is easy via bus or train, and there’s even a shuttle from Sanda Station. Highly recommended for tourists and locals alike! Be sure to come early and wear comfortable shoes — you'll want to spend hours here!

I had a great time at this outlet! It's huge and has an awesome mix of well-known international brands and popular Japanese shops. The layout is really beautiful and relaxed. Pro-tip: head to the information center for a special coupon code to get an extra 5% off (bring your passport for tax free)

This is a large, outdoor outlet with a huge variety of goods and brands. The weekend can get a little crowded. Parking is free. If you like shopping, this is a great place for you, but be prepared for a lot of walking. There is also a very big Aeon mall right across the street, so you can easily spend the whole day in this area.
Emily. C — Google review
I decided to take a taxi from my hotel to Kobe Sanda Premium Outlets, which took about an hour. The outlets were spacious with no waiting lines and a great variety of stores to browse. I especially appreciated the lack of crowds, which made for a relaxed shopping experience. In terms of pricing, I wasn’t sure if there were significant savings compared to premium outlets in California, even with the tax credit. Language barriers were a slight challenge as many shop staff couldn’t assist in English, but Google Translate was helpful. The Moncler store stood out with its wide variety of items, clearly designed for Japan’s colder weather—much more diverse than what you’d find in California. Dining options were excellent. I had ramen with fried rice, and both were absolutely delicious. For the taxi ride back to the hotel, I learned you need to call for one at stop #4, and it usually arrives within 15 minutes. Overall, it’s a great outlet for stress-free shopping and tasty food, though some additional savings would have made it perfect!

🚶‍♀️ Step-by-Step Directions: 1. Inside JR Shin-Osaka Station, go through the Central Gate (中央改札口). This is the 3rd floor. 2. Take escalator to 2nd floor. Head toward Exit 4 3. After going out Exit 4, you’ll walk across a short pedestrian bridge. 4. At the end of the bridge, go down the stairs. Once you reach the bottom, make a slight right turn and continue walking straight. 5. In a minute or two, you’ll see a covered bus stop on your left with signs that say: 神戸三田プレミアム・アウトレット行き (Kobe-Sanda Premium Outlets)
Snail H — Google review
There were definitely plenty of shops and the place looked very clean. The prices are not super low unless there is a sale, but it can be worth it if you find something you really like. All of the food spots and the outlets were packed, so expect a lot of people around.

Sasayama Castle Oshoin

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Sasayama Castle Oshoin, a reconstructed 17th-century castle in Japan, boasts of a magnificent wooden hall with painted screens, surrounded by gardens and a moat. Visitors can explore the main building and learn about the lifestyle of Japanese Daimyo through informative video presentations. Walking along the entire outer moat is also recommended, with various shops to visit along the way.
Tamba-Sasayama Castle Ward is well maintained to accept sightseeing tourers and the shops around are reformed. So, some pure old and ancient construction is unexpectable. Half a day would be killed if go around the ruins. This place is relatively far from the railway station, so not convenient for pedestrians, but the paid parking places are prepared. Foreign visitors would enjoy some different atmosphere from Kyoto or Nara. Food shops and restaurants many.
Bohya K — Google review
Accidently deleted the castle photos. if you are a castle fan and I'm the area its a nice walk up to the top. You can see the entrance and stone walls and a museum at the top of the mountain showing the history of the castle. The main part of the castle is no longer there you can only see the ruins and a little temple. The view of sasayama is really nice. There is a nice walk going around the old castle location. Free parking is down along the river. If you cross the bridge and go down the little path away look to your left and there will be a big field near the river. you can park There for free and enjoy the walk I enjoyed it and if I was in the area again I would visit again.

Beautiful location set in the mountains! Well worth walking from the station if you have time some good sights along the way 😀 The town it self is nice too!
Michael B — Google review
Although the majority of the buildings have not been rebuilt the information offered within that which has is undoubtedly worth the price of admission. Walking along the castle walls gives a clear view of the entirety of tamba-sasyama city and it's surrounding environs. Upon entering the rebuilt administration building you can see the history of the castle and its military importance many years ago. The only information available in English is the video history of the castle which has been subtitled in English, this gives a rather in-depth view into the castle's planning, construction, and importance historically. The other wing of the building consists of rooms decorated with traditional art and armor, and during my visit, a show of bonsai. I strongly recommend purchasing the ticket that will allow entry into all four historical sites in the surrounding area.
Zane H — Google review
A good deal to get the package ticket for the four museums for 600 Yen. They are all close to each other, and individually quite small so can easily be covered in a few hours. Not very much to see here as most of it has been rebuilt. Acknowledging it is a former site of castle. And some nice views from the garden.
Np1032681 — Google review
The rebuilt main building was nice to be able to walk through and understand how Japanese Daimyo lived in the 17th century. The video presentation was also helpful to understand how and why the castle was built. I recommend to anyone visiting the area to walk the entire outer moat and visit the shops along the way.
Bryan M — Google review
nice place but small. Just took me around 10 mins to finish
Derek L — Google review
I entered from the back, on the old, large, grassy stairs. I thought about the people from back in the day who walked on these steps. We had to walk up the old stone steps as well! The steps are large and uneven, so please be careful. People worked hard to build those stairs, so appreciate every step. A lot of the castle is no longer standing, but you can see a replica of it in the museum. The is also a video that plays with English subtitles. I was able to learn a lot about the history of this castle! Walking through the museum and seeing the different types of rooms was nice. I imagined myself as someone who lived in the castle while walking. I appreciated the rooms and architecture of the building. Outside behind the museum, there is a shrine and overlook. Go outside and enjoy nature if you can.

Izanagi Shrine, located on Awaji Island, is a prominent traditional place of worship that honors the Shinto spirits Izanagi and Izanami. The shrine enshrines Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto, the couple gods of Japan's creation. Visitors can explore the 'Meoto Okusu' in the precincts of the shrine, known for its association with marriage harmony and good match fulfillment.

(Translated by Google) Photography is prohibited inside the temple, so be sure to do so! Posting brochure images! When you walk around the Amida Triad and observe it, you can see that its expression changes depending on the lighting...I was struck by how wonderfully shaped the twisted waist of Seishi Bodhisattva is...When viewed from behind, part of the halo looks like a tail...Is the large Amida statue about 6 meters tall? It seems like the hall was built to match the size of the Buddha statue...It was truly a wonderful moment☆ In the morning of November 27, 2024, the floor was so cold that my feet felt like they were freezing, so it would be a good idea to bring slippers from now on. (Translated by Google) I came here from Kyoto on the Tambaji route, where the fresh greenery was dazzling. Located in the eastern hills of downtown Ono, it is an area where quiet old villages and emerging business complexes intermingle. There is a large parking lot at the entrance along Prefectural Route 75, and from there you can see the temple on the elevated grounds. This is a valuable temple (Todaiji Harima Bessho) that was built on the same site as Todaiji Temple in Nara, which was destroyed by fire during the Genpei War, and which has been passed down to this day.The hall, which was built in the style of the Great Buddha (Tenjiku style), can only be seen here today. Considering the size of the building, the building is made of simple materials and beams, with wide spacing between pillars, and the rectangular hipped roof has no warping, giving it an overall clean appearance. What is surprising when you look inside is that the ceiling appears to be much higher than the exterior, and there is no canopy. The backlight from the lattice window on the west side reflects on the bright vermilion zenith of red red rosewood, and you can gaze at Kaikei's Jōroku statue of Amida Tathagata and the standing statues on either side, which shine in the backlight. Naturally, taking photos is not allowed, so I admired their faces until I could etch them into my heart. I can honestly say that I was more moved by this statue than any other Buddhist statue I have seen to date. When I touched her, I could feel her body temperature, and my lachrymal glands relaxed at how merciful she was. Perhaps it was due to the deep piety of the Buddhist sculptor Kaikei, but I felt a deep sense of gratitude as I could feel the timeless dedication of his soul. Nestled in Toyooka City, Ankokuji Temple is a captivating Zen Buddhist site that dates back to the 13th century. This hidden gem truly shines during autumn, particularly from mid to late November when the Enkianthus perulatus trees transform into a breathtaking display of fiery foliage. The temple's worship hall offers an incredible view of this singular tree, which creates a picturesque scene reminiscent of classic art.

It turns out they're all parishioners of Ankokuji Temple. They even kindly agreed to my request to move the central lantern aside so we could take photos. ^_^ Unfortunately, the weather was a bit chilly, but I was truly warmed by everyone's warm welcome. I recommend visiting a little later in the day, when the lanterns are more lit. I'd always only seen it on TV or in the newspapers, so I was truly happy to be able to see it in person. Beautiful illumination during autumn for one angle photography. Just that this is the only thing you can do here, just to view the red maple leaves ** this year the koyo season is not good, many places are out and the koyo leaves dropped before it turned fully. Its nice but i think the one in Kyoto Rurikoin is even more beautiful ^^

The bright red Enkianthus azaleas were in full bloom, and they were absolutely beautiful! Temple staff guided us, and a group of about 15 of us enjoyed the azaleas right in front of us! 🌺We took off our shoes and admired them on the tatami mats. There were several parking lots, but they were all nearly full and crowded. There was a line stretching from the main gate to the stairs, so I asked the receptionist how long the wait would be. They told me it would be about 20 to 30 minutes, so I paid the 500 yen entrance fee and got in line. The guide divided us into groups of five and guided us inside. They kindly explained everything so we could take photos easily! I took the best photos I've ever taken! Everyone there, from the parking lot staff to the receptionists, guides, and locals, was very kind. Nestled in a rural setting just north of the city, Japan Toy Museum is a renowned attraction known for its beautiful castle and extensive collection of toys. Housed in six traditional warehouses with tasteful folkcraft interiors, the museum showcases over 80,000 toys and dolls from various eras and over 150 countries. Originally the residence of famous toy collector Shigeyoshi Inoue, it now boasts an impressive collection dating back to the 1960s.
A nice cosy place where you can learn about the evolution of traditional Japanese toys. We were lucky enough to have the founder giving us a live demonstration of how some of the traditional toys like spinning tops work. It was fun getting hands on with some of the traditional toys, reminding us of simpler times. We were in time to catch the Christmas Special Exhibition. Some toys from around the world were also housed in another building. It was a unique experience and admission fee was 600yen/ adult. Although a little far off from the city, the trip was enriching and well worth it. More awed to read the brochure about how the founder converted his own home into a museum in order to showcase his private collection of toys! Truly a testament of how following your passion can sometimes lead to building remarkable things! We visited during the winter and the kerosene burners became overwhelming after a while. Otherwise, it was a most pleasant trip and I would like to contribute some traditional Singaporean toys if I get the chance.

A real gem, toys from all over Japan and the world. Toys made in occupied Japan and sent to USA on display. Also handmade kites were outstanding. Special seasonal displays are a nice plus. 15 minute walk from the station through quiet neighborhood to get there.

We visited this toy museum during a day trip to Himeji while our cruise ship was docked at Kobe port and loved it! The town was so serene and peaceful and it was really novel and interesting to learn about history through toys. It was also really fun to play with some with some of them and explore the cute little gift shop. The staff were also really kind, gifting us with some origami as a parting gift and the owner even drove us back to the train station.

Amazing! I can't recommend this place enough. It's the collection of one person. We met him and he showed us how to use some of the toys. The price is very cheap and we got a memorable experience that felt honest, Interactive and personal and got to see an impressive collection of toys and dolls from all over the world. The museum shop is also cool and isn't too expensive. Go there if you have the time, definitely worth it.

Very happy that I chose to visit this museum. I was going to see other museums in the area but they were closed (maybe because of bad weather?). But the toy museum was open and was a fantastic display. They have areas where children can play with some classic japan toys. It was surprising to see some toys that made their way to the American market as well, transformers, furby, robo dog, and of course pokemon. More than toys they have exquisite dolls and handicraft on display. I think everyone will find something interesting here. Skip the nintendo museum and come here instead if you want real Japanese culture.

Fantastic medium sized museum of toys from around Japan and other countries as well. The focus is on handmade toys so fans of handicrafts will also enjoy the exhibits. Explanations are mostly limited to country of origin and are provided in Japanese and English. Photos are allowed. A variety of wooden toys are available to play with but most of the items are behind glass. Despite the name, the museum is a labor of love by one man who built the collection with donated items over the past 50 years! I worry about the future of this collection as he is now in his 80s. Visit soon! There's also a membership program to help with the upkeep. I came by car as it's a fair distance from Himeji or Kobe but it is possible to visit but public transportation if you have time to spare.

Ame Falls

Waterfalls
The Amedaki Falls is a scenic spot situated on the west side of Japan, featuring a magnificent waterfall cascading off a basalt cliff surrounded by lush chestnut and beech trees. This beautiful location has been recognized as one of the top 100 waterfalls in the region, and its tranquil ambience complements the soothing sound of flowing water. The area also offers a path for visitors to explore and picnic tables for enjoying meals amidst nature's beauty.
Amedaki is the first waterfall you'll see after a short walk from the main carpark and down some easy stairs. There is a hutt near the carpark which looks like it might be an information centre/shop, with a drink vending machine outside. We went in March - and both the shop and vending machine still had signs saying they were closed for winter. There were toilets, but they were closed too. I'm not sure if that was a seasonal thing or just because we came after 5pm. There is a track from Amedaki which will take you on to several further waterfalls. It is less than a kilometer but precarious and steep in places so you'll want good shoes. Signs say the mountain range that contains Amedaki falls are home to eagles, Black Bears, and Japanese monkeys. We went in early spring, and there were still some snowpiles, so bring something warm unless you go in summer.

[Explanation below] Amataki Falls, Tottori Prefecture's largest waterfall, was selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Waterfalls in 1990. The 40-meter waterfall over the Fukuro River, which flows from Mount Ogino, is surrounded by virgin forest and the sight of the gushing water cascading down is truly impressive. There are 48 waterfalls, large and small, in the surrounding area, all of which can be viewed in their natural state. In October 2010, the San'in Coast Geopark was certified as a member of the UNESCO-supported Global Geoparks Network, and Amataki Falls is part of the Oginoyama area. You can observe the rare and beautiful topography here. Since ancient times, this area has been a sacred place of training and worship, and in the past, a "waterfall visit" ceremony was held on August 1st of the lunar calendar. Today, the Waterfall Opening Festival is held every year on the first Saturday of June. With the magnificent waterfall as a backdrop, the region's traditional performing art, the Inaba Umbrella Dance, and religious ceremonies are performed. There are walking paths and gazebos leading up to the waterfall, where you can enjoy the autumn foliage and the fresh greenery of early summer. Nagashibina Doll Museum

During the winter visit to the Nagashibina Doll Museum, one cannot help but admire its beauty both inside and outside. Although no pictures were taken indoors, the exterior was truly captivating. The museum entrance fee of 300 yen seemed well justified after witnessing its wonders. Furthermore, it is evident that this place holds a special appeal for children, as they thoroughly enjoy being fed here. This summarization emphasizes the aesthetic allure of the museum without delving into personal experiences.
(Translated by Google) Mochigase Nagashi-bina is a tradition where on March 3rd of the lunar calendar, a pair of paper Hina dolls (male and female) are placed on a straw mat, garnished with hishi-mochi and peach twigs, and floated down the Chiyo River as a sign of misfortune. (From the pamphlet) The original form of the Hina Nagashi itself is said to date back to the Heian period. Japan's ancient culture is truly beautiful and wonderful. I heard that this custom is still practiced in this area even today, and I hope that this wonderful Japanese culture will continue. I entered Mochigase Nagashibina Museum. In the exhibition room, valuable Hina dolls such as Hina dolls and Hina decorations from the Edo period are displayed. You can feel the changes in Japanese culture over time through Hina dolls. Just thinking about what the situation in Japan was like at that time from the perspective of Hina dolls, which have been passed down from the Edo period to the present, gives me a romantic feeling. It may have been inconvenient at the time compared to today, but I can feel that it was rich in spirit.

I didn't know what the treatment was going to be like, and I had been told that some of the pain was coming from body distortion, so I thought that if I chose the whole body course, it would balance out my overall health. It was a pain, but it barely touched my lower back and had no effect. Did you arrive at the conclusion to perform this procedure after listening to the patient's concerns and giving instructions to the staff? I don't think there's any point in giving everyone the same treatment. I was shocked to hear that I would need 12 to 17 treatments at a cost of 5,000 yen each to see significant improvement. I think it's good for people who don't like being jerked off, but that treatment is not included in the full body course. The treatment was performed not by the doctor who diagnosed the patient, but by the staff, who guided them to the massage machine and then gave them a manual massage. I don't feel like it's working at all, either immediately after the treatment or after a few days. I think it might be effective for people who sit for work or who have chronic stiff shoulders. I learned a lot.

(Translated by Google) I visited for the first time because I had lower back pain. The director was easy to talk to, and when I consulted him about my other concerns, he was very sympathetic. It was my first time having skeletal adjustment so I was a bit worried, but there was no pain at all and I felt refreshed after the treatment. The staff were also very friendly, so I think this is an osteopathic clinic that even first-time patients can feel comfortable visiting! I'll continue to go once a week!

KanikkoKan is an aquarium dedicated to showcasing local Matsuba snow crab and other fish species in small tanks. Located in a tight space, the museum offers touch pools and a unique opportunity for children to learn about sea creatures firsthand. As of December 2019, admission is free and visitors can take the Loop Bus from Tottori Station or drive due to ample parking availability.
This is a small, free aquarium. The main exhibit is crabs. The explanations are only in Japanese, but it's very clean and easy to see. I recommend it for small children.

Cute aquarium displays and educational too. Not as massive but can still have a good time with family. They have a small shop and some activities kids will surely love. Free entrance too!

They had many tanks to look at and entrance is free! It’s not that big but I’d highly recommend if you’re in the area.

There are not many crab museums in the world and this is free to enter. The display is much more than I expected. Worth coming when you visit the fish market.

Free to access and we were surprised by the variety of sea creatures housed there! With crabs and the friendly octopus plus all the different types of fishes, kids will love it here.

Tight space, full of crabs and some other fish in small tanks. That’s a lot of places in Japan. But this one is free! As of December 2019. It’s fun to visit if you are already in the area checking out the Farmer’s market and Fish market. You can take the Loop Bus from Tottori Station to get here or drive because there’s lots of parking. Fun place for kids because you can touch some of the crabs and fish. Nice free educational space.

Hakuto Shrine

Hakuto Shrine, located in Tottori, may not be the most grandiose shrine, but it holds great significance due to its connection to two of the region's well-known folklores. The shrine is linked to the national folk story 'The Hare of Inaba,' and it is believed that many visit this shrine seeking blessings for healing burns or skin ailments.
A shrine dedicated to the hare of Inaba. The typical buildings of a Japanese shrine would be the torii gate, the cleansing place, main hall, gift shop, a place to hang the small wooden plaques bearing prayers or wishes, donors' names..... One particular unique feature is the Mitarashi Pond, where the water level remains level, never swelling nor declining throughout the year.

Lovely shrine with a lot of rabbit statues which has a huge burden to carry stones of wishes and hopes.

Very cute shrine with a unique flavor. It’s said to be closely related to the myth of the marriage between Okuninushi and Yagami-hime, so it’s a shrine famous for seeking marriage. And it,s close to the coast and the beach and has an excellent view.

It’s a nice spot right next to the ocean. My friend really wanted to go. So we stopped by and she got a really cute charm. It is a shrine for lovers to see if it will last. People put stones on rabbits stamped with a kanji. I don’t remember exactly which kanji but it is something about a lasting relationship. Definitely worth a quick visit

A very cute temple with lots of rabbits, i wouldn't say not worth it but with the beach in the front quite pleasant to spend half of the day to walk along the beach after temple visit. in between temple and the beach is rest area where you can have some refreshment or meal and of course buy some local produce and souvenirs or have a cup of coffee!

Hakuto (White Rabbit) Jinja is a Shinto #Shrine in #Tottori. It is the setting of the myth of the White Rabbit of Inabane. It is one of the nicest #Shrine l have ever seen. It is believed that the Shrine's power is to relief from burns and other skin conditions. The shrine is located in a very peaceful pond in the forest with Mitarashi pond where ducks were swimming peacefully.
