Taichung, a vibrant city in Taiwan, is easily accessible via the Taiwan High Speed Rail. Upon arriving at THSR Taichung Station, travelers can hop on the free Lihpao Land shuttle bus or take bus no. 155 for a scenic ride to various attractions. For those exploring by car, starting your day at Zhongshe Flower Market and then visiting Lihpao Discovery Land or Lavender Cottage makes for an enjoyable itinerary.
We took the HSR train from Taichung to Taipei and boarded at this station. The staff were extremely helpful and helped us validate our tickets. The station has shops with food and drink. The place was very clean. The platforms were clearly marked and boarding was very orderly.
S C — Google review
Taichung High-Speed Rail Station is a well-designed transport hub that makes traveling in Taiwan smooth and convenient. The station is modern, spacious, and easy to navigate, with clear signage and an efficient layout that keeps crowds moving. Inside, you’ll find plenty of seating, clean facilities, and a good selection of shops and restaurants for quick bites or last-minute essentials. The connection to local transportation, including buses and taxis, is seamless, making it easy to continue your journey into the city.
Wisanu T — Google review
easy to use, at the northern end of Taichung's multimodal transport center. Much easier to use than Taipei and has the most trains of any HSR station in Taiwan. Easy access to busses to Taichung and Changhua as well as other places in central Taiwan such as Sun Moon lake. Easy access to the MRT as well as the TRA train. Plenty of food options. Most everything is translated into English.
魯大海 — Google review
Easy to use and comfortable, clean station. Easy connections to MRT and regular train service in separate adjacent, connected rail stations. Also bus stations. Easy drop off area from Uber and taxi. Friendly ticket booth staff. Well marked signage even in English. Main tip is look carefully for which escalator to ride up to platform, based on whether you have a reserved or non-reserved seat on the HSR train. Decent restrooms.
GT H — Google review
This high speed rail station is modern, clean, and has many restaurants and shops. The free public restrooms are well maintained. Be sure you go up to the platform early since lines can be long. The trains stop for less than a couple of minutes for boarding, so get ready to hop on as soon as yours arrives! Onboard the train, it is very clean and spacious! The seats are very roomy and much bigger than airline economy seats. You have a tray table, and you're allowed to bring food and beverages. You can stow your luggage with you, in the overhead rack, or in the cubicle at the back of the car.
J T — Google review
Very convenient, so clean and modern-looking train station situated in Taichung. The high speed rail is really fast and the wagons are sleek and clean inside it seems that you're in a plane. Taichung station is your gateway when travelling to different destinations in Nantou county, Changhua, and Taichung itself. Staying inside the station while waiting for your next train is really comfortable.
Jimin-Lei P — Google review
Clean spacious, beautiful design enough places to eat and a great gift shop. There is even a nice garden downstairs. Staff are helpful and everything is so conveniently located. We were waiting for our high speed train to Taipei.
Yousuf P — Google review
This is a fairly large HSR station with ample facilities, sitting areas, convenience stores, cafés, restaurants, and eateries. It is accessible by the only MRT line operating in Taichung, but taxis would be your best bet. Taxis are inexpensive and it would be around TWD 300 / 400 from the downtown area of Taichung and it should not take longer than 25 minutes (of course, traffic depending on traffic).

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled just outside Taichung, Rainbow Village is a delightful explosion of color and creativity that captivates visitors of all ages. Once a humble veterans' village constructed to house Chinese soldiers, this charming locale has transformed into an artistic haven thanks to the remarkable efforts of Mr. Huang, one of its last residents. His vibrant murals adorn the walls and streets, showcasing whimsical depictions of animals, dolls, airplanes, and even beloved manga characters.
A beautiful little village full of Taiwan’s history. You can really feel the vibe once you’re there. Whether you stay for 5 minutes or 30, it all depends on your mood and interest. Don’t forget to stop by the lady selling souvenirs at the entrance—her prices are very local and fair! It’s free to enter though. Easy to get here by bus from the city.
JRM D — Google review
Love the colourful village, really brighten up the visit. Can be a bit hot sometimes and no much space to rest. Visitors all busy taking Instagramable photos. There's also a talented busker performing, and some activities to keep young kids occupied. There are a lot of interesting artwork and we spent almost 2 hours there, although the place is actually quite small and the visit can be completed in less than 30mins for some.
CF C — Google review
Is such a cheerful little spot, full of colors, art, and stories behind every wall. It’s a bit warm walking around, but the bright murals and cute photo corners totally make up for it. Just take it slow, grab a cold drink nearby, and enjoy the happy vibes! 🌈
Cheiro T — Google review
The art is beautiful, the place is small but full of beauty, clean, perfect for those of you who like taking photos. If you need a friend to come here, I can accompany you. FYI, I'm Indonesian. You can add me on IG = bubu_experience7 My workplace happens to be not far from here.
Futia R — Google review
Rainbow village is a must-see for its incredible backstory and unique visual appeal, but manage your expectations regarding its size. It's a short, colorful stop that is best enjoyed when combined with other taichung attractions like Moment Cafe and Wanggaoliao Viewpoint. #gorgeousventure

Interesting paintings. Very small area. Costs us 300 taxi from city centre. We walked 5mins to take some photos and thats it. Not worth it if you are far away.
Mia N — Google review
Really enjoyed coming to this place, although it is quite a long bus ride away from north district and it is maybe smaller than one would think. I think there's a lot of art to admire, you can also walk along one of the walls to try and find your Chinese zodiac sign which is pretty cool. Additionally, there's a wall where you can leave a special message and hang it there. I enjoyed that concept of leaving something for others to see. If you go, plan in advance while considering bus routes, weather, and while a 711 is somewhat near (north) make sure to bring WATER!
康安樂 — Google review
The beautiful colors of rainbow village adapts to the mood of people visiting here. I admit I got tired traveling, but seeing these magnificent murals gave me a rewarding feeling that I can still enjoy my vacation no matter how tired I am

Good place to go ~~ A university surrounded by beautiful nature. U could take the BRT/bus from Taichung train station to arrive at the University gate.
Migo L — Google review
Tried comparing this to the university I went to in the Philippines and realized Tunghai is bigger. But it almost feels the same, it’s surrounded by nature, the air you breathe is fresh. The greenery makes you calm. I even lost my favorite buttoned down polo shirt inside the university premises, if you find it, please contact me. It’s on the first photo for reference.

I have been to several universities in Taiwan but the architecture and history of this university are unique. University is full of greenish surroundings with animal husbandry for research and food purposes which include deer, cows, peacocks, and ducks. The University has a convenience store where you can fresh milk from the University firm and it also has Macdonald's, family mart, star bucks, and many more. The University has a beautifully crafted church and the university is perfect for weekend walks and exploring nature. The University is well connected to public transportation. The University has a night market near campus.
Mohd K — Google review
The University compound is so huge. It is open for public to visit as there is a famous attractions building inside the compound, the Luce Memorial Chapel. However, the Chapel only open on certain time if you wish to enter the building. Besides, there is a dessert store that selling milk related products named 乳品小站, the products included ice cream and drinking milk, the milk only available in big bottle but the paper cup is provided and oven is prepared for warm up it. One thing that I like so much about this place is the lush grass, feel so relaxing when laying on it.

All in all ,I love THU .

When I visited the school around 2 pm, the school was quiet. It was perfect for taking pictures. Thank you (the student) Beautiful picture. Take your time and visit.

One of the most beautiful parks in Taichung, it is quite spacious with a lake in the center and various facilities such as restrooms and a playground. There is also a bridge 👍🏻 There are quite a lot of animals here, such as birds, squirrels, and fish 🐹🐦🪿🐶🐱🐟 It is very child-friendly and accessible for people in wheelchairs. One of the recreational spots I highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A great park in the heart of the city, within walking distance from Taichung Main Train Station. There are various walkways, making it enjoyable to roam freely among the trees, near the lake, among rest areas and numerous artworks. It feels full of hidden spots and shady areas to relax or hide. You can also easily spot squirrels, which kids will love. The park has clean toilets, and it's also a pleasant place for pet owners to take a walk.

Safe green haven in the frenzy city. Lovely place to chill and relax, possibly tasting some snacks, delicious street food / fried chicken whatever, Taichung has wide choice. Just sit in the shade, feed the birds, look the squirrels, enjoy the lake, read a book, to recover your mood

Free and beautiful park here. Many people picnic and rest here. While there is some live in the evening, nearby the night market. So, worth to walk around to explore here.

I was there on a foggy grey day and did not see the sunset. Despite that we still enjoyed ourselves. Get down into the sandbar is highly recommended! First brave the knee deep water that was still icy in springtime. Thanks to our KK day driver and guide for a great day outing!

Sun was hidden behind the clouds 🥲, missed the beautiful sunset view. Great place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. A lot of mini crab and natures.
Alchymist L — Google review

Gaomei Wetland in Taiwan is a hidden gem! The scenic views of the wetlands and the sea are breathtaking. The boardwalks and trails offer a peaceful stroll with nature. The stunning row of wind turbines silhouetted against the horizon are especially gorgeous during sunset when the golden hour lights up the sky. Timing your visit for sunset is a must - the views are simply stunning! 🌅 Afterward, stroll through the nearby shops and indulge in some sweet treats. A must-visit for nature lovers and those looking for a serene escape from the city. 🌿🐦🌊"

Such a nice place with a perfect sunset viewing its worth it riding my bicycle from Doulio Yunlin County to here.
Reynan Z — Google review
Beautiful scenery, best to go just before sunset. Quite windy. Nice local pastries on the main lane. You may also walk around the area, there's a temple worth visiting
Lihi L — Google review
The weather was not cooperating, overcast, dark and very strong wind. The wind was so strong that you could be blown off the slippery boardwalk into the water. Fortunately the boardwalk was still open, we risked a little walking to the very end of the boardwalk. Too bad we did not have the chance to see a sunset there, but the views were very special.

Nestled in the picturesque mountains of Central Taiwan, Lavender Cottage is a charming retreat that beckons nature lovers and leisure seekers alike. This enchanting destination features lush trails and vibrant lavender fields, making it an ideal spot for a serene escape. Founded by two passionate women who left their urban lives behind, Lavender Cottage has blossomed into a beloved garden farm attraction since its inception. Visitors can enjoy delightful local cuisine at the on-site restaurant or browse unique gifts at the shop while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere.
Visited here to celebrate valentines day. Suitable for couple or family with kids for a romantic getaway! With different zone to explore and have some nice lavender ice cream or lavender latte! The staff 澄钰 very friendly and recommended us some tips! Awesome!
Karine L — Google review
Very disappointed. They should not say they are lavender forest but I think they can call lavender Gardens. Anyway I went there April 2025 no lavender at all, only small garden for hydrangeas. Also the ticket includes free ice-cream but the machine broken so they offer buy 1 get 1 free ice-cream instead. It was acceptable but also not our responsibility. You should keep maintaining. Staffs are untrained, everyone look confusing when I ask something. Don't say it is not the lavender season. If it's not the season you should closed and keep maintaining the good 'garden'.
CK K — Google review
This place is lovely! Even when the lavender is out of season, the other flowers are gorgeous to walk around and look at. It is small and a little hard to get to if you're a tourist, but very peaceful, and their ice cream is so yummy. It's cool too to see the kinds of products they can make from the plants. The staff is also very kind. I couldn't find a taxi to get me off the mountain and went to ask one of them for help, and she instantly made a couple calls to find me a ride and even informed one of the other employees of the situation too so that both of them could help me if I needed while waiting.

Peaceful and Refreshing Day Out Visited Taipei Lavender Garden and really enjoyed it. It’s a calm spot to unwind and just enjoy being surrounded by nature. There are lots of lovely lavender and rose products, soaps, creams, massage oils, teas and everything smells amazing. They also have aromatherapy areas, which add to the relaxing vibe. We tried the lavender, oolong, and lemongrass ice cream, all really good and not too sweet. The cafe serves nice picnic-style food that you can enjoy outdoors, which makes the whole experience feel cozy and laid-back. There are walking trails around the garden, so you can stroll around, take in the scenery, and just slow down a bit.
Gina G — Google review
Very expensive for entry and they give you 100nt tokens to take off when you buy in the grounds, but it’s very expensive, for example a coffee is 180nt for just a basic black coffee. The ice cream they sell is 150nt with token you still need to pay 50nt. If you’re giving token I think items should be a small bit lower in cost, everything is inflated. The one star is solely because of the cost it’s very expensive considering the local cost in Taiwan. The ground are beautiful and well kept, staff are nice, the girl at the entry where you buy the ticket is really nice. I don’t think I’d comeback due to the cost. But overall was a nice experience.
Geoff H — Google review
Pretty garden with good food! Lavender ice cream is delicious. Will be back if given a chance.
Diana A — Google review
Lavender season just finished wgen I visot but it's still with the experience & enjoy the others flowers & natural fresh air. The journey to the cottage mostly single lane, exercise cautions.
Justin W — Google review
Unless you drive , otherwise, it’s a long way to visit there. And, It’s relatively small that I expected. Maybe I visited it in late September and low season, not many places are truly spectacular compared to the lavender season. And you have to be creative if you want to take some great photos with different flowerings season.

Really beautiful place but the entry fee of 350 dollars is quite expensive. The lady on the gate wasn’t very nice either her manner is quite rude. The restaurant food didn’t try, it’s very expensive even with the 100nt voucher the give you we did spend it or order food. Good place to take wedding photos if you want to. Not easy to get there if you don’t have a car. Overall it was ok, one of the places once you see it once you don’t go back. Really suggest look at the entrance fee before planning to go there. There actually isn’t much to do here only walk around.

Xinshe Castle is pure magic 🌿🏰 – like a European fairy tale hidden in the heart of Taiwan. Perfect escape from city noise, with peaceful gardens, stone castles and fresh air that makes you forget the world. Best way to get here? Rent a scooter in Taichung 🛵✨ The ride itself is part of the adventure – winding roads, jungle scents, and breathtaking mountain views. Honestly, it’s something you just have to experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax, recharge, and capture unforgettable moments 📸💫
LUKAS W — Google review
It’s an amazing place! We just went there this afternoon for the first time (Tuesday) and there was hardly anyone else. It’s just like our own castle and that experience was fantastic. There’s a great little wooden trail which was nicely taken care of. Just come and you won’t be disappointed. I heard the castle was built 20 years ago, it’s hard to see a private location that’s well maintained in Taiwan for that long. Take your time there, have a cup of coffee, stay chill.
Bill L — Google review
Very pretty, a little pricy. Signs and info structure should be upgraded. Not easy to visit the whole place with a stroller or wheelchair.
CrackerJack B — Google review
There is an entry fee. The location is not easily accessible by public transport The castle area is pretty huge and takes about 2 hours to cover everything. There is a restaurant inside. A good place to visit during cherry blossom time
NANDHU P — Google review
It’s quite far from Taichung city. And no public transportation that go to this place. So, you need to use your own car / motorcycle or taxi. Meanwhile, it’s bit pricey. The admission fee is $350 per person. Although you get a credit of $100 per person to use on drinks or food, the food and drink there is quite expensive too. The castle is huge and beautiful. A great place to visit if you like beautiful scenery and you have more free time~
Fara — Google review
Great place, very well kept grounds with beautiful flowers, fish to feed and woodland walk. A couple of places to get drinks and food (although didn’t have the food, only drinks). Had live music by the pond when we were there which was very relaxing. Some lovely places to take pictures. Will definitely visit again with a picnic.

Located in Dajia, Taizhong. A beautiful historical Chinese temple. There is a lot of street food outside the temple which you can visit after visiting the temple. The architecture of the temple is incredible. It is near the train station which is about 10mins walking distance from the train station. A lot of people went for the prayer. Or you can just visit. No ticket is required for visiting. Overall a good place to visit when you are coming to dajia

I like stopping to pray here, the atmosphere in the area is very busy... especially when there are celebrations... lots of people selling food around the area but in this area now there are lots of people who like to beg for money and sleep carelessly in the Vihara area... toilets are available but sometimes they are very dirty and smelly (sorry)..🙏🏻

In 2022, April 1st coincides with the first day of “March” by Lunar Calendar. There is saying that this month is the month crazy for Mazu, one of the deities in Taiwanese culture. Among all religious activities around Mazu, Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage is the biggest one. The duration usually spans 10 days 9 nights. The route covers a lot of towns and villages in central Taiwan where Mazu worship is deeply rooted in the soil and people's blood. If you visit Taichung, Changhua or Yulin during this month, why not join part of this event hailed by Discovery Channel as one of the world's 3 major religious festivals?

Xinshe Sea of Flowers, also known as the Provence of Taiwan, is a renowned destination for its stunning flower fields and vibrant festivals. The annual Sea of Flowers in Xinshe festival takes place from November to December, drawing crowds to its expansive grounds adorned with colorful cosmos and sunflowers. In addition to the breathtaking floral displays, visitors can explore booths offering agricultural products and educational opportunities to learn more about Taiwan's agricultural practices.
u can go maybe atleast 330pm so its not that scorching hot,tho the wind is in cool breeze...parking....there is a lot and i find it reasonable.food, and veggies are for sale there too...not pricey! it is literal sea of flowers...so beautiful...

Annual event by the locals. Nice walk about in the sea of flowers. Definitely instagram-able. Entrance to the park is free. The organising committee even arranged for complementary shuttle service to ferry the visitors from various train stations to the event. Very much appreciated. And like most events, there are plenty of street food and snacks; ice cold drinks to keep the stomach happy and heat away.

The Xinshe Sea of Flowers was an absolutely breathtaking experience for me and my family. Visiting during this annual event in Taichung, Taiwan was like stepping into a colorful dreamscape. The fields stretched on with vibrant blossoms—cosmos, sunflowers, marigolds—each creating a stunning patchwork of color that seemed endless. The festival's thoughtful theme added an extra layer of wonder, with intricate floral designs and installations that were both whimsical and impressive. My wife, mother-in-law, and our one-year-old baby all enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and the unique displays. It was a perfect blend of natural beauty and creative artistry. The educational centers on site were also a pleasant surprise, offering insights into Taiwan’s floral and agricultural history, making the visit as informative as it was enjoyable. And with free admission, it felt like a gift to both locals and tourists. This is a must-visit if you're ever in Taiwan during late November to early December. Our experience was unforgettable, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a serene and colorful escape. 🌸🌻🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A bit of a drive from Taichung, but a great place to see flowers, some structures and people watching. place was jam packed on a sunday afternoon. Besides flowers, lots of small market vendors selling nick nacks and food. Parking was a bit of a mess and Uber took a while to get from Xinshe to Taichung. Absolutely worth a visit but be patient.

Super crowded. The place is nice! There was a free shuttle to get there.

A lot of flower and thanks for the good weather too. I visited last year Nov. And, there was an event here. There was a small market there selling the organic goods and some snack. We are enjoy here but kindly check the flower seasons before you arrange a trip to here. You may skip here if you are visit here after the flower blossom season or raining season.
Jask L — Google review
Loved the flowers here! So pretty and organized! Pick weekdays to go so it’s less crowded, they do close at 4:30pm so try to get there early! Flower season might already be over this year, was scheduled for 11/11/23-12/3/23 so pretty short. I was there a couple of weeks ago. Worth checking out if you’re looking for a place to go in the area, a bit harder to get to without a car.

This enchanting destination features a diverse array of trees, including hemlock spruce and Japanese Anisetree, alongside breathtaking mountain vistas. With its elevation reaching around 1000 meters, the area showcases an impressive variety of flora with 218 plant species thriving in different zones.
Worth to visit if you are keen in walking and appreciating birds. Spend at least 2 days/1 night here to try different trails. Btw, highly recommend to bring some snacks and ready to eat food with you. No shops and convenient stores inside of this national park.

Daxueshan is a fantastic destination for birders. It is also much calmer and quieter than other developed resort areas like Alishan and Shanlinxi. Driving up the mountain can be a challenge if you aren't experienced.

Great customer service, everyone at the park is extremely friendly and helpful. The park is clean and well maintained. One of the trails is closed for maintenance so please check before you plan your visit. We stayed at the small wooden cabin, it is also very clean and water is hot. The meal is buffet style. Our family had a wonderful stay!! We will visit again for sure! 👍👍

It's beautiful and very dense forest. Deer, Bears and forest monkey are easily visible there. It is cold place even during summer also. So please carry warm jacket when visited this site. For the Taichung resident, ticket price is only 100 NTD.

I should describe this place as wonderful. Been there in early September, when it was so hot and humid in Taipei. whereas this place was so chilling at noon. If you are planning to stay longer at the top, consider taking a jacket. Please try to go to the top, the road is good, can drive car to the top. There are information centers along the way and there is a facility for drinking water (both hot and cold) and clean toilets. You can also buy some snacks. Lookout for birds and the beautiful mountains.

"The Great Snow Mountain" national forest park locates in the middle Taiwan. The elevation is over 2000 meter. There are serval trails, where one can walk inside forests. There are two famous giant "Red Juniper" trees in the forest trails, the small one is estimated over 1000 years old, and the big one is about 1500 years old. There are a variety of wildlife. I am lucky seeing unique birds including "Imperial Pheasant" and "Blue-bellied Pheasant". Super happy 😃 ❤️ 👍!

Mount Sylvia offers an incredible panoramic view, allowing visitors to see Turtle Mountain Island from Yilan and more than half of Taiwan's 3000m mountains. The location is considered the center of the northern Taiwanese mountains, providing breathtaking scenery and a stunning view of western Taiwan. Additionally, the beautiful lake adds to the overall allure of this picturesque destination.

must visit! Xueshan is a part of the Shei-Pa National Park and so climbers are required to apply for a park entry permit. This can be done 7–30 days in advance. After that a police mountain entry permit must be applied for. This can be done at the police station in Wuling Farm on the spot. There are two cabins on the trail. The first, Chika Cabin, is at the 2.0 kilometers (1.2 mi) mark. The second, 369 Cabin, is at the 6.9 kilometers (4.3 mi) mark. Both cabins are spartan, and contain bunker style beds. Hikers must bring their own sleeping and cooking gear. The peak is at the 10.9 kilometers (6.8 mi) mark.

Zhunan Station is a fantastic hub for travelers looking to explore Taiwan, offering two distinct routes: the scenic ocean line and the picturesque mountain line. If you opt for the ocean line, be prepared to soak in stunning views—though I must admit, I dozed off during my ride! For those traveling with locals or seeking a more immersive experience, the mountain line comes highly recommended. The station itself is quite convenient, featuring essential amenities like restrooms, convenience stores, and ATMs.
This station is the place where you can choose whether to go by ocean line or mountain line. You can stop by 台中 with mountain line, or you can enjoy ocean viewing with ocean line. I took the ocean line but I slept on the train and I couldn't enjoy sightseeing at all haha. I recommend taking the mountain line especially if you travel with local line 😉

Chenghuang Temple Night Market is a bustling market located around the Chenghuang Temple, offering a variety of local delicacies and street food. Known for its lively atmosphere, this market is popular among tourists and locals alike. Visitors can indulge in Taiwanese street food items such as pork balls, spring rolls, and bouncy meatballs. The market's proximity to the temple adds to its vibrant charm, making it a must-visit destination in Hsinchu.
This was my first night market and it's awesome and amazing. Some many people, great food, great treats, and a big sense of community. While waiting at one place (see other reviews for it) a lady the man cook were joking with which other. I laughed too, even tho I have no idea what they are saying. She walked away and came back to give me a Temple Souvenir. Like I said COMMUNITY She is the lady in the picture

Have you tried one of the most famous Taiwanese Night Market food ? You have to try this one “ Oyster 🦪 Omelette “ it is not just traditional Oyster Omelette but it is a very unique Crispy Omelette:) This is perfect 🤩 and fresh , I have tried so many oyster omelette in Taiwan But now this is my Favorite ❤️ if you like spicy flavor !! You have to tell the chef that you want to add the chili 🌶️ souce 😍😍wow !!! So Good !! Moreover such big amount of oyster 🦪 omelette which is a lot bigger than my face😄 only costs 80 NTD(2.5 USD)

A not so big night market. But it is place which sells Hsinchu famous food, mee fen, fried oyster, "Gan" ball etc It is located outside the temple, and about 10min walk from HsinChu TRA station.
Kokthye L — Google review
Smaller than the famous night markets in Taiwan but it does the job if you like the Taiwanese food. Many small stalls presenting the variety of food. Its clean and hygienic as usual. Nearby places and streets are worth the stroll. Lovely scenes and beautiful locations. Better to rent the YouBike bicycle and roam around, you will fall in love with it.
Karan B — Google review
We ate here en route to 清境农场 (Cingjing a.k.a. Qingjing Farm). Lunch venue was at this shop" 王家蚵仔煎" located in the vicinity of Hsinchu's City God Temple inside sort of an alleyway lined with food stalls selling the city's all-time favourite and old-time flavours such as Hsinchu rice vermicelli (新竹米粉), fish balls and pork balls (魚丸, 贡丸). The duck egg pancakes sold along the streets were also delicious. We bought 4 pieces for NT$30. The jam is home-made; there's chocolate, custard, lemon, red bean and plain as filling options for those pancakes. This night market operates earlier than most other night markets found in Taiwan but the stalls are not as many as the rest.
Samantha H — Google review
This temple is definitely on the list of place to visit if you are traveling to discover Hsinchu. Despite being old and full of history, this temple has interesting design and it's usually quite lively. But the surrounding scene, full of local restaurants, just a few steps away from the main altar, is surprisingly funny. It's like a "Let's pray for whatever we believe or expect, and then, let's enjoy some local food speciality to celebrate it".
Martin M — Google review
This is one of the must-see attractions if you are in Hsinchu, which is not saying much. It is much like a night market except it only sells food, closes early, and has a temple attached.....But there are stands, small eateries and sitting spaces and the vibe is similar if you catch my drift. It is a very cultural experience. They sometimes have events there like a Hakka pig butchering or a lion dance. It's wonderful and you can smell the sweet incense from the mall. The toilets are back there and they are clean enough as far as night market bathrooms go. You can get all the Hsinchu staples here, vermicelli, pork balls, squid soup, oyster pancakes, and crystal meat balls stamped with different red shapes depending on the stall or flavors. They also have other specialty foods like fried black water caltrop, fried taro balls, fresh herbal tea. Highly recommend!

Yin Hsi East Gate, also known as Yingximen, is a well-preserved 2-tiered city gate dating back to the Qing Dynasty. This historic monument stands on a granite base with an arch and offers visitors a glimpse into centuries-old architectural brilliance. It holds great historical significance for Hsinchu, being the only gate standing after the Japanese era.
This gate is such a cool place to see. It comes alive at night. There were people practicing dance moves, bike tricks, and drawing. It’s such a fun place to just hang out.

Nice place to look around briefly. There's an underpass from the river nearby (don't try to cross the roundabout!!). Cool piece of history in the middle of the city. The rivers nearby are also really nice. If your bus is quite late (it probably is let's be real) come check it out!

Definitely a zoo and park for everyone , so exciting and satisfying to watch animals in real life, not only in YouTube and Geographic channel🤣😅. So I would recommend you as well to pay a visit your relatives lol. And if you catch hungriness here, a food nearby is affordable and delicious of course.

Hsinchu Zoo is one of my favorite places to visit from time to time, especially with a lot of green landscape and quite smooth access trails for kids and the elderly. Besides those amazing spots of animals living , there is a fabulous Starbucks coffee shop in the Park area where used to be one of historical buildings in Hsinchu Zoo. However, we found the stairway access to the 2nd floor of Starbucks Coffee Shop was full of SPIDERWEBS almost everywhere , which gave us an astonishing sense of Halloween Decoration Could Hsinchu Zoo Administration Team please make the environment more attractive with tidiness and cleanliness for Zoo visitors a better impression. We really appreciate the friendly atmosphere you create for Zoo Visitors. Thank you so much.

Smangus - God’s tribe !! It took us almost 4 hours from Taiwan to Smangus. Beware of there were traffic regulations of these winding roads into the tribe. There were coop in the main parking lot to serve breakfast / lunch and dinner . There was a small convenience store next to the coop . Many log cabins for accommodations. I love this beautiful historical tribe: many beautiful hiking trails. Clean bathrooms available for this 5 K route. The attitude was around 1600 meter. It did not get chilly just comfortable . The most famous hiking trails to the red wood area was flat and manageable. Alone the trail, the vegetation changed with so much to appreciate . A very enjoyable place to visit .

(Translated by Google) I love all the children in this deep mountain. Intuitively, I am the Atayal people. Tainan came here. Although the road is far away, the mood is surging. Here, you can watch all Atayal people carefully. Their innocence, simplicity and enthusiasm make you feel that they live in more than two hours away from Neiwan, they are content and happy and united. Children above the junior high school must leave this hometown where they lived for a long time, go to Zhudong to study, and even go to high schools to other counties and cities. After graduating from university, they will return home to work together to take care of this land. Every time the car slowly left the park, my sorrow came alive, this is no good, when will I come back? The leisure and romance of travel is that when you set off for your destination, you already have that atmosphere and mood ready, right?

- the service was bad from the only restaurant. food was ok. - the unpaved road condition is not good. a SUV is recommended - Temp difference in the morning and at night is big - too commercialized to feel any true aboriginal culture - the accommodations are good and acceptable judging from such a remote rural location.

Popular spot in the mountains with several hiking trails. Travel is long with small roads but worth the view. Accommodation is simple but nice.

Neiwan Old Street

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
This traditional street is popular with visitors as it is home to many restaurants & gift shops.
An excellent street filled with tones of very reasonably priced street vendors!! One of my favorite ones throughout Taiwan yet with a large variety of interesting foods and items for purchase. Everyone was very nice and the streets were cleaned with public bathrooms available! This is the last train stop on the line and worth riding the train up to it so you can also go hike in the nearby trails to the rivers and waterfalls! Otherwise enjoy the streets and foods!
Jacob M — Google review
It's a very pleasant street with many food options. In addition to the beautiful view of the bridge.

Monday = most shops closed. Couldn't get there on a weekend, so not Neiwan's fault 😌. Have some fun at the go cart track ( the first one)

A very local place with tons of food options. Most tourists here are locals. You can allot 1-2 hours strolling this street or stay a night for hotsprings or camping

Went on a weekend but not as crowded manage to enjoy it. Lots of nice food along the way up to the train station. Nice meat skewers, yam cake, lu wei and ice cream. Plan more time there to explore the place didn't get to fully enjoy it as I was with tour.

Beautiful old street in Taiwan. Take a one hour slow train ride from Hsinchu train station to view and enjoy the scenery to and from this destination. I was here on a Monday and many shops were not open. I imagine that the crowd and activities will be a lot more on weekends. Lots of street food and sit-down restaurants and souvenirs and snack shops. All the stall owners are genuinely sincere and happy to chat with you.
CW T — Google review
Lively and amazing old street in Hsinchu. However, most shops are closed except for the market on weekdays and there is nothing much to do. On weekends, however, all shops are open. On weekend the streets are extremely lively and sell local produce that tastes pretty good. Recommended to come on weekends only.
Julian C — Google review
A very authentic old street to go and walk around you can find lots of local delightful street food and a cafe to hang around.. feel sad didn't have enough time to visit an 100 yes old church.. also nearby old street next to it has a karting circuit and playground park for kids to play. Love the place lots. Will definitely plan for my next trip again for missing spots..

Toll road rest stop

A really well equipped rest stop. The toilet is large, and has plenty of tissue, with toilet seat sanitizer and bidet (the only one I've seen during my trip in Taiwan!!). From Nov-Apr, the tap water runs warm too. There are plenty of shops in the rest area, including clothing stores, restaurants, snacks, convenience stores, and souvenirs. This place even overlooks the sunset. What a pleasant and surprising find.

Big place for stopovers. Lots of food to choose from. No gasoline station. There is Mcdonalds inside this servive area. The restroom is very clean.

Very nice rest stop with plenty of parking and super clean modern bathrooms with bidets. Lots of food choices and pleasant outdoor spaces for relaxation. When we visited around 5 pm on 4/8/22 the line for gas was so long I decided to press ahead without filling up. Otherwise a great place to stop northbound. You can even buy fresh produce and cut pineapple here!

Update: 1/14/21 The new service stop turns out really wonderful. It’s first time I ever visited a public bathroom with toilet seat wasslet! How luxury! The park around it has good views and you will forget you are in the rest area. They have this awesome dog run with dog cafe where pet owner can let the dog run outside while you seat comfortably dine inside. Great seating area design as well. Love this place!!!!! Under construction. But love the water lily pond there. Beautiful.

Leofoo Village Theme Park

Water & Amusement Parks
Leofoo Village Theme Park is a long-standing park that offers various themed areas with thrilling rides, interactive animal shows, and even a steam train. Visitors staying at the Leofoo Resort can enjoy activities such as animal and plantation tours, African dance performances, and bird photo opportunities. The park is ideal for families looking for mild thrills and animal encounters, with highlights including the informative Train Ride showcasing herbivore animals.
Drove by decided to check out the hotel - the parking is free if you’re stopping for less than 30min beyond that it’s 200twd no matter how long you park. You can go to their viewing deck past the lobby where you can see so many animals without having to pay for the park or stay at the hotel. They also have a coffee shop / restaurant facing this courtyard zoo. A thunderstorm hit shortly after and the African band was so professional still singing even though no one other than us was there to listen to them sing. Best to plan for 3 full days here and hope that there is no rain!
Tiff — Google review
This was a fun amusement park about an hour drive from Taipei. Definitely worth the special price unlimited ride day pass for non-Taiwanese (550ntd on KKday). There is also a water park that is connected, but we didn't go. We arrived at 9:30am right as the park opened and spent a full day there (until 4pm, park closes at 5 pm). It was sunny with a bit of cloud cover and about 33°c with lots of places to get out of the sun. So it was comfortable, but hot. Most of the rides were up and running and there were virtually no lines for any rides must of the day. The rides were fairly good with all the standard favorites. Tower drop, boat over a water fall, pirate ship, spinning tea cups, salt n pepper shaker, ring of fire, mini rollercoaster ect.... The one unique ride that stood out was the screaming Condor this is a mag lev powered top rail roller coaster that launches you at high speed about 7 stories in the air straight up and down on a cork srew track. Only issue was the delay between rides as the system needs time to cool down. There are several other activities including VR, small video arcade, grabmachines, and typical carnival games (no shooting gallery). The park is divided into the Arabian, south Pacific and wild west sections. There is an animal/safari section. But the safari is pretty lacking. Basically just monkeys, some typical herbivores in small pens and the carnivore bus tour was hardly worth the time. Bus driver raced around and didn't do a good job of lining the bus up for people to take pictures. Don't waste your time. Many of the restaurants and snack huts weren't open ( this was a Thursday not a holiday day). Still there was enough options to get by and we ate burgers and got some Turkish ice cream. All in all very worthy discounted price of 550ntd for the day pass. I certainly would not be willing to pay full ticket price which is around 1200 to 1600 NTD depending on your age. If you can get the discounted tickets go for it. As soon as the staff's on my white face it was a non-issue even though I was going in with some local Taiwanese we all ended up with the discounted price. We were never asked for any sort of ID but it's always a good policy to have at least a picture of your passport on your phone just in case.

A great place to spend the day! My biggest remark is the lovely sir who drives the bus. We stayed until almost 9 pm for the Halloween event and have no way to go home. He saw us waiting and kindly drive us to Taipei even though we were only three (my friend, my husband and me). So amazing to have a place that cares about its customers like this. I wish I knew the driver’s name, he definitely deserves the praise 🙏🏽 Further more the staff is overall kind and patient, the rides are fun and the animal zone is amazing I would recommend it 100% (though the haunted house was a bit too scary for me)
Minerva L — Google review
My wife and I had an amazing time at Leofoo theme Park. The weather was excellent, the park was much better managed than I expected, clean, organized, and very well maintained. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, and prices for ticket, food and souvenirs were reasonable. The safari experience is the greatest highlight. The train and bus rides brought us very close to the star animals like lions, tigers, zebras, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, buffalo and more. It has lesser animal than Taipei zoo for sure but I enjoyed here much more! We also loved the Monkey Skyway ride, where we could enjoy an aerial view of the monkeys and other animals at our own pace. We visited on Monday afternoon and it wasn’t crowded at all, no waiting time for most rides. The water park was closed (was told it only open in summer), but we honestly didn’t feel like we missed anything because there was already so much to enjoy. We should have arrived earlier, time flew by too quickly. Out of my 10 day trip in Taiwan, I enjoyed here the most. Thank you Leofoo for a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back!

Leofoo Village Theme Park is one of Taiwan’s most iconic amusement destinations, located in Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County. It uniquely combines a large-scale theme park with a safari wildlife zoo, making it a standout attraction for families, thrill-seekers, and animal lovers alike. Key Features Four Themed Areas: The park is divided into four main zones, each with its own immersive environment: Wild West: Experience the American frontier with classic western architecture, live shows, and the park’s most famous ride, the Screaming Condor—an inverted shuttle roller coaster that launches riders at high speed. Other attractions include the Grand Canyon Rapids and themed dining options like steakhouses and burger joints. African Safari: This section doubles as Taiwan’s largest open-range safari, home to around 70 species and nearly 1,000 animals, including rare white tigers, lions, zebras, and baboons. Visitors can tour the safari by train (Nairobi Express) or bus for close-up animal encounters. South Pacific: A tropical-themed area with water rides, thrill rides, and vibrant scenery. The log flume and drop tower are major highlights. Arabian Palace: Step into a magical, adventure-filled world inspired by Arabian tales, featuring rides like the Sultan’s Adventure and the Flying Horse monorail. Safari Experience: Leofoo Village is renowned for its safari park, where guests can observe animals in spacious, naturalistic habitats—an experience unique among Taiwan’s amusement parks. Family-Friendly Attractions: The park offers over 30 rides and attractions, catering to all ages—from adrenaline-pumping roller coasters to gentle rides and interactive animal experiences. Dining and Amenities: Multiple themed restaurants and food stalls are available throughout the park, with options ranging from Western-style meals to local snacks. Facilities are family-friendly, with clean restrooms and stroller access. Accessibility: Leofoo Village is an easy day trip from Taipei and offers enough activities to fill a full day, or even a weekend if you stay at the adjacent safari hotel or visit the waterpark. Visitor Tips Arrive early to make the most of your visit, as the park closes around 5 PM and some food stalls may close earlier. Bring water and snacks, as there are no free water stations, though bottled water is available for purchase. Check the show schedule upon arrival to catch live performances and water fountain shows. Dress appropriately for the season—winters can be chilly and windy. Leofoo Village Theme Park remains a classic and must-visit destination for anyone traveling in Taiwan, offering a blend of amusement park thrills and up-close wildlife encounters that appeal to all ages.

We got there on a beautiful day in April with not so many people there, and the first view of the lake itself after you get through the entrance will make anyone swoon. The lake is quite small but the scenery all around are varied and every corner feels different and just as picturesque. It’s a heavenly little corner in Taiwan and really worth it if you combine the trip with a trip to the divine woods.

A very beautiful park with very fresh air for hiking and get rid of the noise of city life. The road to the park is very narrow so that no big tour bus can get to the area. Unfortunately the attitude of the people in the ticket box was not friendly. That made the trip not so happy. Luckily the atmosphere and fresh air brought back good mood after the hiking. A place you may go many times as the seasons change, the feeling is different.

A beautiful pond beside the northern trans express way, surrounded with lots of tall red wood trees. The air is so fresh and cool even if in the summer mid day. Nice flower farm with lots of parking spaces, amazing varieties of sunflowers and a large banquet hall. The food was delicious. The cold chicken dish had a taste of smoked meat while the ribs were very tender. There are tons of sunflowers of different heights to enhance your photographs. They also offer ladders for you to spice up your selfies. There are many food outlets and activities for the kids. Their train and boat are quite nice. Only concern was the amount of kids not wearing masks and crowding together.

Gloria Outlets is a high-end shopping center filled with internationally renowned luxury brand outlets, as well as various restaurants and cafes. The retail space is immaculate, and signage throughout the mall is clear and easy to follow. The parking lot utilizes light indicators to show available spaces, making it simple for customers to navigate. Staff members are knowledgeable and friendly, providing excellent customer service. Weekdays are recommended for visiting due to the overcrowding during weekends and holidays.
This premium outlet is very easy to find, with a direct exit from the station. It’s just a few stops away from Taoyuan Airport. There are plenty of premium brands here, and good price. I think it is even cheaper than in Hong Kong (Citygate Outlet). The selection is also wide, with lots of variety. It consist of three phase. Some of them are only 1 floor, the other have 3 floors There are two food courts (Food Pavillion) on the different phase, several restaurant and food & beverage stall. There are also two customer service centers located in different phase of the complex where you can process tax refunds. The space is large and open, with plenty of seating areas I visited on a weekday—it was fairly busy, but not overcrowded.

It is a good outlet full of high fashion brands, sport brands and household big names. It's a bit far from the city, getting here isn't exactly straight forward nor easy. But if you have some targets and ideas in mind, and also have done your homework, you will be able to find some good bargains here. I certainly enjoyed shopping here and was very happy with what I bought. The outlet is particularly beautiful at night when it's lit up.

The food court at Gloria Outlet is very convenient, with many choices and the food quality is quite consistent. The cost ranges from over 150TWD to ~400TWD. The restrooms are really good: there are children's rooms, family rooms, and men's and women's rooms.

This is a fairly new mall and it's just like the ones back in California! The prices are a bit higher than elsewhere but I think they're targeting international travelers as it's right next to the Taoyuan High Speed Rail station and let close to the Taoyuan international airport.

Huge factory outlet prepare at least 3-4 hours to get through all the shops. Deals over the weekend and seasonal events are better compared to weekdays deals. Save up to 10% more. Gloria Outlets is a new outlet recently opened in Taiwan comparing to the other outlet, this outlet is far away from the city center, but offers great discount. Sanxia Old Street is a charming and historic street known for its traditional red-brick buildings, shops, food vendors, and a historic temple. The street dates back to the early 1900s during the Japanese occupation and offers plenty of photo opportunities with its unique architecture. It is located at the confluence of three rivers and was once an important transport hub for various goods. Visitors can explore the old merchant houses and residences that reflect the town's prosperous past.
This is a charming old street filled with original authentic architecture. The shops sell mostly tourist items and souvenirs. There is not much to buy here. The temple near by is worth a tour. It has ornate columns and roofs. There's a lot of history to this temple.

Charming tiny (Baroque style building street) though it looks a bit different to those in Europe. it will be perfect and safer if they close the street for pedestrians ONLY area during the busy days , to better appreciate it, try to avoid the weekends and bank holidays and don’t forget to visit the temple nearby.

It’s such a beautiful area. Great spot to capture historical architecture. Lots of fun shops and food to try and check out. It feels like a “night market” except it’s during the day. A nice historic street with beautiful old architecture and a range of stores. The local speciality is cow horn bread (think of a croissant shape but with a chewier harder bagel style bread). It’s nice that both sides of the street are well preserved and that the street is mostly pedestrianized. This is similar to many old streets in Taiwan, but it’s worth a visit due to it being next to a particularly interesting temple. Note: if driving you should find parking and walk to this area as it’s quite crowded.

Sanxia Qingshui Zushi Temple is a reconstructed Taoist temple known for its intricate stone walls, columns, carvings, and sculptures. Sanxia Zushi Temple is a major center for Taiwan’s Qingshui Zushi folk religion. Its style differs from most other traditional temple architecture because its reconstruction was led by Li Mei-shu, a Taiwanese artist famous for his western paintings. As a professional artist, Li began the project that produced the breathtaking decoration of Sanxia Zushi Temple, which has earned the temple a reputation as a Hall of Eastern Art. The wood and stone carvings in the temple were crafted by renowned artisans in Taiwan based on the sketches of Li and other artists.

Nice building and interior facilities, staff were professional and friendly. Nice walk from train station. Overall pleasant experience!

Interesting ceramic process and history of how it was evolved to modern days artistic pieces. With many interactive along the way to help you learn. A good place for a weekend family outing!

I'd recommend it, and here's why: Pros: - affordable tickets (80nt is less than $3USD!) - free self lockers for your items (just fill out a quick form so they know who to contact in case you forget your stuff) - informative exhibits + a couple interactive ones - gorgeous pieces - good air conditioning Cons: - not as close to the Old Street as you think 😅 If you can, you should definitely visit and see all the beauty in person!

I loved this museum and enjoyed the videos on the different ceramic techniques. Shame the 3rd floor wasn't open so there weren't as many contemporary objects as I would have hoped(probably if there were more in the shop than on display), and not sure the future of ceramics section really worked, however, it is a beautiful space and the library is a wonderful resource and I was very jealous of whoever gets to use that. The staff there were very helpful and I will definitely come back. I think that reviewer who left two stars is very demanding and ungrateful of what they experienced.

NT80 entrance fee. 2 storeys of exhibits, mainly on the history of ceramics in Taiwan, how it started, how it was part of everyday life from being large containers for shipping purposes initially to daily life such as plates, bowls, food moulds to spiritual needs (in terms of deity statues and temples) to decorative (tiles, window, vases) and even as medical equipment (to grind or boil medication) etc. L1 is a display of modern day glazing techniques. I like that they have the audio guide on Messenger, so it's free-of-charge, self service, on your own device. There are also hands-on workshop here to make your own pottery item but because it takes time to fire the product, you won't be able to bring it home with you immediately after the session. There's also a big park behind the museum where they've some ceramic pieces on display.

A quiet little local museum in this quiet town of Yingge Building itself is quite a sight, as well as the exhibition are interesting, learned a lot about ceramics, based on it is a symbolic business in the region …however there are lots of room for whoever is managing to improve Love the buddhism figurines, so cute

So much better that initially thought. So spacious well designed. Unfortunately not enough time to visit the garden, will do that next time!

A ceramics museum in Yingge, free entry for local New Taipei City citizens, NTWD$80 for tourists. About 15 minutes walk from Yingge Railway Station. Displaying the history of ceramics industry in Taiwan. Not crowded in weekdays, not all the area are opening. A garden which is free entrance just connecting the museum.
