Spent a full day exploring and immersing ourselves in this world. So much fun and can't recommend it enough. Come with an empty mind, ask questions, be curious, you won't regret it. Grounds were very unique and staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. 5 stars.

Upper Village Canada is truly a hidden gem. The neighborhood feels peaceful and welcoming, with clean streets and a calm atmosphere that makes it perfect for a relaxing walk. What I really enjoyed was the sense of community—people are friendly, and it feels safe and comfortable to spend time here. There are also some lovely spots to sit, enjoy the surroundings, and take in the charm of the area. It’s not overly crowded, which makes it even more enjoyable if you’re looking for a quiet place away from the hustle of the city. Overall, it’s a beautiful area that combines nature, comfort, and a warm atmosphere, and I would definitely recommend visiting or even considering it as a place to live.

Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village is such a fun fall experience! The pumpkin displays are incredibly detailed and creative — you can tell so much work goes into them. Walking through the village at night with all the glowing pumpkins feels magical and festive. It’s perfect for families, couples, or just a cozy fall outing. Definitely worth the drive and the ticket price! 🎃🍂 There’s a train ride for the family for additional 8$ per person. This event runs select nights from October 3 to November 1, 2025. So hurry up if you haven’t gone there yet. 🤩
Faria J — Google review
Visiting Upper Canada Village is like stepping back in time to the 19th century. The atmosphere is both peaceful and lively, filled with the sounds of horse-drawn wagons, water-powered mills, and costumed interpreters who bring history to life. The village is beautifully preserved, with gardens, farm animals, and traditional workshops that make you feel like you are truly walking through the past. What makes this place so special is the way it allows families to experience history together. For children, it’s an incredible opportunity to see how kids their age lived more than a century ago—without screens, technology, or modern comforts. Instead of video games and tablets, they discover the joy of simple play, helping in gardens, or learning how bread was baked in a stone oven. Parents can use this as a moment to reflect on how daily life has changed, and how community, hard work, and creativity shaped people’s lives before modern conveniences. Upper Canada Village is more than just a museum; it’s a living classroom. It offers families a chance to slow down, connect, and appreciate both the challenges and the beauty of the past compared to today’s fast-paced world.
Nooshin M — Google review
I had a great time at the Pumpkin Festival! 🎃 The atmosphere was festive and family-friendly, with lots of creative pumpkin displays, delicious seasonal treats, and fun activities for all ages. The live music and food stalls added a nice touch, and it really felt like the perfect way to celebrate fall. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it got a bit crowded at peak hours, and did not felt like worth driving from Ottawa. Still, overall it was a wonderful experience — definitely worth visiting if you love autumn vibes and pumpkin everything!
Akanshu J — Google review
I went with my daughter and her boyfriend. Line went pretty fast to get inside. It took about 45 minutes to walk through with enough time to take pictures. Found a lot of people don’t pay attention if someone is taking photos. A lot of great pumpkin carvings was very enjoyable.
Rob H — Google review
Quite impressive and interesting! We loved to watch the blacksmith, cheese maker, tinmaker, shoemaker etc. at work and to see an historic sawmill in action. Just awesome! The horse-drawn carriage ride was for free and a nice way to get an overview of the area. We were happy that we've dicided to visit this place.
Nadine B — Google review
We LOVED the experience. This place takes you back in time, to the 1800s. People that work there were amazing. It felt good to be a bit disconnected from today’s society and see how people lived 200 years ago. The village is well managed and big enough you can easily spend half day just walking around.

The Central Experimental Farm, located in Ottawa, Ontario, is a sprawling working farm and research facility that also serves as a national historic site. It features gardens, historical buildings, and a museum within a large rural landscape. The farm is home to an arboretum, specimen plantings, ornamental gardens, wildlife garden, heritage buildings and greenhouses. Visitors can explore the agricultural facility with its gorgeous trees and plants along with large fields for roaming and capturing stunning pictures.
This is the most beautiful place in the universe. I love to come here to write—I sit in the gardens, or by the pens outside, where it's quiet. It's not exactly the same in form, but the ambiance reminds me of my aunt and uncle's old sheep farm in Scotland, so whenever I'm here I feel a bit closer to home. Truly a blessing on the city of Ottawa. And it's free after 4!
Anna J — Google review
Very fun good experience. One of the better « petting zoos » . Lots of things to do. Good way to support the farm is by just taking a self guided tour.
Hanson N — Google review
Loved walking on the farm through the fallen leaves. Explored the tropical greenhouse. Explored the various barns seeing farm animals. Flower garden was huge. Beautiful place to take the kids,
Peter C — Google review
The farm is not too far from the city and is a fun and interesting experience. There are gardens and footpaths around and nearby as well as buildings with animals. Plenty of educational materials and friendly staff. There is a playground and interactive museum that is very child friendly. Nearby there is a shaded area with several picnic tables ideal for large group visits.
S F — Google review
Nice place to visit. Lots of animals and things to see. There's some interactive things for the kids to do.

You pay to go in the farm area but the gardens are free and very popular for photo ops!!

Great place to visit. They do different things every season. I think spring with the baby animals is my favorite. Great playground in the middle. Always lots to see. If you go at the right time you can see them feed and milk animals. There was a fantastic face painter there today. Also glitter tattoos.
Emma B — Google review
Canada Agriculture and Food Museum known as Central Experimental Farm is a very nice, organized, well maintained farm. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They had an ice cream activity today and a kitchen activity (making strawberry scones). My 4 children and I enjoyed our visit! Horses, cows, lama, poultry, ducks, rabbits, and much more! The farm also includes a park with a play structure, picnic tables and washrooms. Paid parking is available as well. Safe and sanitary with sanitizer stations and some water stations as well. Lovely and interesting place to visit with your children!

Our visit to Mrs. McGarrigle's Fine Food Shop in Merrickville, Ontario, was a delightful experience. The shop is a treasure trove for anyone looking to indulge in quality goods. We picked up some British goodies, which brought a taste of home to our kitchen, along with a selection of beautifully crafted soaps, an apron, and a stylish tote bag. One of the standout aspects of this shop is the incredible selection of spices, oils, and vinegars—not to mention their impressive array of mustards. Each item is carefully curated, and it's clear that the shop takes pride in offering only the best to its customers. The name "Mrs. McGarrigle" sounds like a character straight out of a Harry Potter novel, and that would make sense given the magical experience this shop offers. On top of the great selection, the storekeeper is the nicest and most pleasant person you could hope to deal with, making the shopping experience even more enchanting.Whether you're looking for specialty foods, unique kitchen items, or just want to browse a charming store, Mrs. McGarrigle's is definitely worth a visit. Discover the Aquatarium at Tall Ships Landing, an indoor discovery center in the heart of Brockville. This interactive attraction offers educational programs, animal habitats, and hands-on exhibits that promote curiosity about the ecology, history, and culture of the 1000 Islands region. Get up close with otters, beavers, and fish from the St. Lawrence River while learning about their natural habitat.
This place is magical! ✨ If you have kids or just need someone to spend the day I highly recommend the Aquatarium. There is something to do for everyone, all ages. There's also a restaurant and cafe so you don't have to worry about leaving to get something to eat or to enjoy a cup of coffee or a latte. The staff is so friendly and helpful, you can tell they really enjoy their jobs. I would definitely suggest visiting during March break because they have mermaids swimming in the tanks. It does get quite busy over the break but if you visit in the morning or late afternoon you can beat the crowd. The mermaids are definitely worth stopping in to see. This place is educational without being boring.
Brooke S — Google review
Very nice place for kids. Very interactive and lots of things to see for everyone. I personally love the otters and the beaver! There is also a free ropes course within the building. If you have little kids, an adult should be with them since they can't attach themselves by themselves. Make sure you aren't afraid of heights! The planetarium was also great and interesting for older age groups.
Jette H — Google review
Nice place! But honestly, it’s a bit overrated. Sure, it’s not bad, and probably fun if your kids are under 5, but the price still feels quite high, especially for an adult ticket. On the bright side, the otters were super cute and active, and the beaver was really entertaining! Though I have to say, I felt a bit sorry for the beaver — its enclosure seemed cramped, with just a small pen and a tiny one-metre-by-one-metre pool. So yes, there are things to see, but I’d say it’s more of a one-time visit… or best if you’re five:)
Diana D — Google review
This place is awesome!! I visited this weekend with my 4 children 15 to 6. They all had a blast. I myself was amazed and learned so many things. I love the hands on experience touching the stars and the shells and learning about them. There are games as well and presentations, a pirate ship, cord climbing etc. In the main entrance, there are multiple games for the children and a souvenir shop. Aquariums were fantastic with a wide variety of fish, shells, separate ones for otters, a beaver, turtles, a snake etc. Entrance was about 26$ per adult and 21$ for children 3 - 15 years old. Paid parking available underground or outdoor parking. Washrooms were clean. Staff was great and super patient and answered all our questions. I highly recommend this place! Definitely worth the visit!!
Pascale C — Google review
The Aquatarium at Tall Ships Landing offers a unique waterfront experience, nestled within a condo complex. While the admission fee of $26.25 for adults and $21.20 for children (3-17) is on the pricier side, a full-day pass allows for return visits, making the otter feeding a highly recommended way to maximize value. Younger visitors will find plenty to engage them, from a large ship climber and interactive water power displays to well-maintained aquariums showcasing local marine life and a supervised touch tank. Although the beaver feeding was a bit sleepy, the highlight for many, including myself, is the captivating river otter exhibit, featuring three to four playful residents. The gift shop offers standard souvenirs. Staff are notably friendly. While a pleasant visit, it didn't quite reach the heights of Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto. Several restaurants are conveniently located nearby.
Rose D — Google review
Awesome aquarium and more! It's fishes aren't numerous but they have many other fun and interactive activities. From watching the beaver do tricks and eat to watching the Otters playing and get fed. There's an indoor suspended wood obstacle course, slide in a ship, target launchers, make a weather broadcast with costumes ans so much more! If you like drawing and technology, color in a robot and see it come to life on a big screen. You can touch some sea creatures, like star fish, sea slugs, crab, etc. A fun place for all ages!
Tanya A — Google review
It was so great, I almost want to gatekeep this little adventure spot! Visited with 4 and 1.5 year old kids. We went for the otters, and also loved the interactive water tables, Port of Johnstown exhibit, touch tank, animated sandbox, aquariums, and amazing staff. Before we'd even left, we were talking about getting membership to visit on repeat! Looking forward to visiting when the kids are older too so that they can enjoy the ropes course, green screen newsroom etc.
Olivia O — Google review
Super cool aquarium. Come through this town twice annually, wish I knew about it sooner. Otters were excited when people walked up to their enclosure, which was also very large and well made. Definitely worth a visit if you like fish and animals.

Castle
Boldt Castle & Boldt Yacht House is an impressive stone castle situated on a 5-acre island in the St. Lawrence River. It offers tours of its interior, formal gardens, and grounds. The castle was built by George C Boldt, the original owner of New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Visitors can take cruises from nearby operators like Uncle Sam's Boat Tours and Clayton Island Tours to reach the castle and explore other attractions in the area.
I recently visited Boldt Castle and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment you arrive by boat, the castle feels like something out of a fairy tale. Highlights: •The grounds are beautifully maintained, with vibrant flowers and lush green lawns, perfect for photos (as you can see in mine!). •The stone tower and the castle architecture are breathtaking and so fun to explore. Every corner is rich with history and intricate details. •Inside, I loved the restored rooms, the grand organ and the historic kitchen really transport you back in time. •The views of the St. Lawrence River and surrounding islands are stunning from every angle. The boat ride to and from the castle adds to the adventure. • It can get a bit crowded at the dock, so plan to arrive early if you want a quieter experience. Tips: •Bring a camera, you’ll want to capture every angle! •Wear comfy shoes for walking around the grounds and towers. •Take your time and soak in the romantic history behind Boldt Castle, it’s truly a gem in the Thousand Islands. I highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area. It’s a wonderful day trip for families, couples, or anyone who loves history and beautiful scenery!
Giriraj B — Google review
We had a beautiful day for a boat ride to Boldt Castle, and it did not disappoint! The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The Castle itself is breathtaking — it’s been preserved in pristine condition. I didn’t see a speck of dust or dirt anywhere. It was so nice to explore at our own pace with the self-guided tour. Tip: Once you pass through Customs but before your ticket is scanned, grab one of the program guides available in both English and French — it really helps you navigate and learn about each area. The Gift Shop is also a must-visit for a great selection of souvenirs. Walking through the Castle was a humbling experience. It’s incredible to see the love George Boldt had for his wife, Louise — keep an eye out for the heart motifs throughout the décor. Wherever he could, he included them, and it adds a really touching layer to the visit. This tour is best suited for adults or interested young adults. There isn’t much to engage children under 13. Overall, I highly recommend making time for this excursion. It’s a perfect blend of history, romance, and stunning views.
Stephanie — Google review
When you go online to buy the tickets the very short ferry from the yacht house (where you park the car) to go to Boldt Castle (which is on its own island) is free. Do not be scammed by hotel people saying you can get a discount if you buy the tour. Unless you want to do a tour of the other island and go up and down the water. Otherwise the $32 entrance fee to the castle includes the yacht house, the ferry and the castle. All self guided. Download app to listen. The upper level still are not complete, but renovations are planned. The low levels and some rooms on the second level are renovated and looked really nice reflecting the actual blueprint. The grounds are gorgeous flowers everywhere, and beautiful colorful plants. Every window you look out of in the castle you can see a view of the water, which is amazing. You do get to go to the unfinished upper levels just to see what things look like, but really not much there. A small gift shop on the second floor… relatively moderately priced items. A nice way to spend the afternoon. I think the entire thing took maybe around two hours. Parking is also free. You do have to walk on gravel from the parking lot to the yacht house. So if you have walking disabilities, please note that it’s at least six 700 yards away. You can buy tickets online and save the QR code for each ticket purchased. The little fairy that goes back-and-forth from the castle comes every 15 minutes. When you’re at the actual castle, there’s a very small store that sells things like hotdogs/hamburgers if you are hungry. A very lovely home and will definitely be returning in the future to see what other renovations they have.

We visited Boldt Castle and the Boldt Yacht House on June 29, 2025, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the views of the St. Lawrence River from the castle are absolutely stunning. We took our time exploring each floor, and the restored rooms and historical displays gave us a fascinating look into the Boldt family’s story and the castle’s unique history. The Yacht House was a surprise highlight – the collection of historic boats and the architecture itself were impressive, and the staff there were friendly and knowledgeable, answering our questions with genuine enthusiasm. We enjoyed walking around the docks and seeing the craftsmanship of the old wooden boats up close. There is plenty of space to wander, take photos, and enjoy the river breeze. It never felt crowded, and we appreciated the relaxing pace. The ferry ride to and from the castle was smooth and added to the experience with scenic views of the islands. If you are in the Thousand Islands area, Boldt Castle and the Yacht House are must-see attractions that offer a perfect mix of history, architecture, and natural beauty. Highly recommend spending a few hours here to take it all in.

It was so beautiful!! The staff were extremely nice, knowledgeable and accommodating. We even came upon a proposal at the shell fountain and she said yes! They looked so happy. The boat ride is very short and the docks easy to navigate. The paths are kept clear of debris and the map was easy to follow. I would highly recommend!!!

This place was so amazing. Every single staff member was so sweet. It was just breathtakingly beautiful!!! The gardens, the inside, the outside, you could easily spend an entire day here! My only complaint was that the gift shop was kinda lame. I definitely want to renew my vows here in a few years.
Kyrstin R — Google review
We visited Boldt Castle in the summer, and it was beautiful. We loved the landscaping and the architecture, but the true story behind the "home" was heartbreaking. Walking through the castle felt like trespassing in a shrine to a life that never got to be lived. If you're a Downton Abbey or Gilded Age fan, you don't want to miss this one!
Abigail K — Google review
Such an amazing piece of history to visit and story to learn. They have restored a good portion of the castle and other buildings and the grounds are also beautiful. What a wonderful way to spend a beautiful summer afternoon. We were lucky it was not too busy and were able to appreciate the beauty of Heart island. We did a 5-hour excursion from Rockport which included a 3 hour stop at the island. Well worth it!

A very beautiful provincial park. We stopped here for the day. Started with the Murphys point loop hike. A very gorgeous trail. The trail was well marked and most of the trail was under the beautiful canopy of the forest. We stopped for lunch at the point and watched the boats drive by. We spent the afternoon paddling around hoggs Bay. We were lucky enough to catch a few fish from the bay. There are lots of activities to do here and the park staff were all super friendly.

Get back to nature park You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Best park store I have ever been in has everything you need even fishing rods. Very clean park that gets you back to nature. Had a no hydro site 129 that back on to a pond it was very wide and private. The beach is back to nature not man made with sand all over. We have frequented many of Ontario’s Provincial Parks over the years, as do many of our friends and family, but no one had any experience with Murphy’s Point Provincial Park so we arrived not knowing what to expect. The park is gorgeous to hike and bike around. There are countless places to paddle, and every campground had nice forest coverage. We ended up meeting the Warden after a minor after-hours arrival issue (resolved) and he was so helpful and interesting to talk to; a tremendous representative of the park. We would definitely go again. One pro-tip though: Many of the sites were small, had significant slope, boulders, and/or roots, which would make pitching a tent or tents difficult. When searching for reservations, list your equipment (1 tent, 2 tents, RV, etc) as being bigger than what you actually intend to bring so that you end up with a campsite that will better meet your needs.

Murphy's Point Provincial Park is a lovely park in Eastern Ontario, only a short drive from Perth or Kingston. The trails are lovely, with easy walking with some designated safe for biking. Three main attractions are within the park; The Silver Queen Mine, the McParlan House, and the Lally Homestead. All have easy access trails with no additional entrance fees. The Silver Queen Mine is a mica and apatite mine. The entrance is gated. Guided tours are held during the peak summer months. The Lally Homestead and McParlan House are self-guided. Canoeing and kayaking is excellent. The main route starts at the main beach or boat launch and takes paddlers through Hoggs Bay, Big Rideau Lake, Noble Bay, Loon Lake and back to the starting point. There are two portages with easy walking. Swimming is excellent too at the main beach or even the hike-in beach. The Park Store is well equipped with essentials. The comfort stations are clean and have showers with ample hot water. There are coin-op washing machines on-site. Staff are super-friendly and welcoming. If you are a birder, you are in luck. In the campground you will see several Red-Bellied Woodpeckers, a variety of warblers and Scarlet Tanagers, even the Towhee can be found here. One can easily find the Grey Rat Snake too. We had an excellent 4 day vacation here!
Ken H — Google review
The sites are spaced out great, ample room between most sites which is nice for privacy. The boat launch was perfect for setting off on your paddle board or kayak with access to Big Rideau Lake, Hoggs Bay, and also Nobles Bay. Nice hiking trails, the washrooms would benefit from more frequent cleaning as other campers don’t seem to respect the communal use but that’s an issue at most car camping sites. Overall would recommend camping here.

We took a Prolite Profil into Fallows campground, I'd recommend a 4x4 since there's one really steep hill that my Caravan almost didn't crest. Good thing the soil was dry 😬. Bring lots of deet bug repellent and check for ticks. On a clear night, you can faintly see the milky way; in early July, you'll need to stay up until after midnight to see it (look east). We also saw a deer just a couple of meters from our spot at night. Lots of other wildlife to observe! Also, the water at the beach glimmers because of the mica. Quite a sight to behold!

Loved the campsite! We visited in early fall last year, and the Silver Queen Mill was a fantastic addition that really enhanced the whole camping experience.
Eranga D — Google review
Was a great part to spend a night camping! We unfortunately got rained out, and we’re unable to do the cave tour, and I recommend you take a look at if your site has good drainage, or if it is downhill! Luckily, we woke up just before the rain started to hit, And packed up before our site was a tad bit flooded. With that being said, we really loved doing the trail the day before! We can’t wait to come back and get a more dry experience!

This is a good place if you are wanting to just go in and buy apples and other apple related products. They also have some handmade items for sale everything from signs made from horseshoes to hand sown items to soaps and lotions. There isn't a tour of the orchard or anything like that. It's a very small place, however there is a nice set of falls behind it that makes a nice place to take pictures!

Just absolutely everybody for everything they have, everything you could ever want from all kinds of apples, apple, cider, cheese, curd, homemade, everything, pies, cookies, cakes, candies and cute gifts of all kinds. This place is so great.

They make the best cider in the north country and their cider donuts are exceptional! The store itself has so much to offer and the waterfall out back is beautiful! We local Northerners look forward to their opening every year and they are always busy, especially weekends. If you’re in the area during the fall I highly recommend this as a place to visit. You won’t be disappointed.

My daughter and I had the opportunity to visit here this weekend and when I tell you this was the best Apple Cider and Slushy I have ever had it’s an understatement. The fudge and doughnuts are great too! Definitely worth the visit. The view out back is beautiful too

Apples! Line was long but moved fast. Donuts didn't last long at our house either. Cider is delicious- thank you!

Cute place but it's really just a gift shop. I expected to see cider being made but there's nothing to see but the waterfall. Our family of 9 bought several donuts and other treats only to stand outside and eat them near the parking lot. We saw several places that there could be picnic tables. Don't know why there aren't any.

If you’re a native of Watertown, you know this is the best cider on doughnuts on the planet. Amazing family run business. The best part of fall is visiting the cider mill.

Zoo New York, located within Watertown's Thompson Park, spans 32 acres and is the only zoo in the world dedicated to showcasing the native animals of New York State. The zoo offers visitors an opportunity to observe a variety of North American wildlife, including black bears, wolverines, and lynx. In addition to its focus on local wildlife, Zoo New York features a Butterfly House and Olmsted Pond surrounded by wildflowers.
This is a great zoo to visit,we visited here during a weekday and it wasn’t too busy. They have a good variety of animals to look at and the butterfly house was one of our favorite spots.
Whitley S — Google review
Visited mid-week so was very calm and pleasant. The heat kept most animals in the shade staying cool, but some were active nonetheless. Never seen a black bear so close, and one of the zookeepers was playing with the wolves. He'd run back and forth by the cage and they would watch him and do it too! And the otters....! I could watch them play all day. They actually seemed to ham it up for a camera, lol. Can't wait to come back here!!!
Angelia A — Google review
Fun little zoo. My wife and I were visiting with no kids. Keep in mind Its a small zoo. While you wont see any monkeys, camals, giraffes, hippos and animals like that, you will see Bobcats, wolverines, bears, elk, goats, eagles, and some reptiles. Admission was only $12 which I felt was fair for what it is, and was well kept and we enjoyed the walk. Deducting a star due to the butterfly house (didnt actually see any butterflies in there) and the petting zoo being closed. Wasn't a huge deal for us, but I could see it being disappointing for families with children. We didnt check out the park that its actually surrounded by, but looks like you could spend a nice day there and I noticed walking paths and playgrounds.

Small but we knew that. A gorgeous day. Very well kept up. Wish all the animals had companions. Took our time. 2 hrs seeing all the local animals. Sci tech bldg was cool. My hand magnet was off the chart! What does that mean..lol! Always see and learn something different. Always buy a gift for the kids and donated. Thank you. Great, friendly staff. Prayers for the sweet animals that we saw. Not the best pics but I tried.

We enjoyed walking around here very much and seeing the local animals of the state. My favorite would be the Wolverine and the otters. Canadian Lynx were great too.

We’ve been members at Zoo New York for two years now and between the zoo itself and all the events they have it’s well worth the price if you live in Watertown and have young kids. We come at least once a week most of the year. My only complaint is that the Halloween things they put up for most of October are way too scary for young kids. I just wish that it were at least set up in a way that you could avoid the spooky things when walking around the zoo, especially since it seems to me that most zoo attendees have pretty young kids.
Kayla V — Google review
This little zoo and science center in Watertown, NY, is an absolute gem! People can be unfair expecting a big-city zoo, but this place has a calm, pleasant atmosphere that’s perfect for families. The kids love visiting the science center, and the butterfly garden was a delightful addition. The wolverine was an adorable little show-off, and the otters were playful and engaging. We also never miss a game at the giant chess set—it’s always a hit with the kids. It’s not huge and doesn’t have many exotic animals, but it’s educational, welcoming, and easy to explore at a comfortable pace. Many of the animals are rescues—injured or unable to survive in the wild—so every visit has a meaningful side. There’s also a playground, and we stumbled upon a black currant bush—such a fun little find, and the currants were delicious! Just across the parking lot is a pool and splash pad, with another playground and a city overlook up the hill. It’s the perfect spot for a full day of family adventures. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Watertown!

Located in Gananoque, the Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands is a popular spot for those looking to try their luck. With over 500 slot machines and various table games like Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, and Texas Holdem Poker, there's something for everyone. The casino also features the Windward Restaurant offering a range of dining options. Visitors can easily obtain a player's card for added perks and excellent customer service is provided.
We went on Friday of the Easter weekend. We ate dinner in the restaurant there. I asked about gluten-free food, and the lovely waitress brought us a piece of notebook paper with handwritten food they serve. Mostly desserts. I ordered plain chicken wings. Very clean. I'd give our waitress a 5 star if I could. She has been working there for a year. Anyways, she was so lovely, personality wise. We headed to the slots, and my guy won some. His winnings totaled $666, good laugh with the super friendly cashier about that total. When I went outside for a cig, the security guards were present and quite courteous. I felt safe going outside by myself. Great place to be if you want to get out.

Today my partner and I went on a double date with our mutual friends to the Windward Restaurant (the restaurant attached to the casino). I’m new to the area, so it’s only my second time dining at the Windward. The prices are super fair for the food quality and portion size. They have a moderate selection of food with lots of comfort food choices. Their selection includes pizza, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, salads, appies, and a few other items. They have a large selection of cocktails as well. Additionally, our server Mark W. was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, efficient, and had great timing. He would check in with us at all the right moments without feeling overbearing. Overall, I would say this restaurant is a hidden gem and a must try if you’re visiting Gananoque, ON.

To: Management, Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands Subject: Formal Complaint – Unacceptable and Unprofessional Experience on July 20, 2025 Dear Shorelines Casino Management, I’m writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment with the unacceptable level of service I received during my visit to your Gananoque location on the evening of July 20, 2025. I have been a loyal patron of your casino since the day it opened. Over the years, I’ve witnessed a steady decline in both the professionalism of your staff and the overall customer experience — but what happened during my most recent visit crossed a line I never thought I’d see in an established gaming facility. At around 7:30 p.m., I approached the cashier’s cage to cash out $125 in chips. I waited for over 12 minutes with absolutely no staff in sight. Eventually, I noticed a sign saying someone would return at 7:45 p.m. — meaning a single guest, at the end of their evening, is expected to wait 15 minutes (or longer) just to cash out. This is not a corner store — it’s a casino. And leaving a cashier’s cage unattended during operating hours is not only unprofessional, it’s absurd. When I flagged down a manager — a woman with dark hair and heavily tattooed arms — her response was equally appalling. Rather than apologizing or making any effort to assist, she became defensive and dismissive, telling me the cashier was on her 15-minute break and that they “don’t have the staff.” I told her I had already been waiting nearly 20 minutes, and that this was simply unacceptable — to which she offered no solution, no accountability, and certainly no professionalism. Let me be clear: it is not the customer’s responsibility to adjust to your staffing shortages. And it is not acceptable for a guest to wait half an hour to cash out, only to be met with attitude and excuses from a manager. If this is how your leadership handles a simple service breakdown, it’s no wonder the experience at this casino has deteriorated so badly. The message this sends is loud and clear — your staff’s time matters, but your guests’ time does not. That is a fatal flaw in any service industry, let alone one that relies on customer loyalty. After decades of visiting your casino, I will not be returning. I hope you take this feedback seriously, because what I experienced was not just poor service — it was a complete failure of basic operational and managerial competence. 0/10 D-
Alex K — Google review
I recently visited this casino, and I’ve never had such an unpleasant experience. The security guards, Jay and Nicole, were extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. Instead of ensuring guest safety or providing assistance, they seemed more interested in trolling guests and making snarky comments. What’s worse is how contradictory their behavior was to the casino’s own policies, which are clearly posted on the signboard at the bottom of the front desk. The board states that guests will be treated with respect and that all concerns will be handled professionally. Yet, Jay and Nicole did the exact opposite — dismissive, rude, and completely lacking in customer service skills. When I tried to address the issue or speak with a manager, I was met with attitude and zero accountability. It’s disappointing to see employees who act above the rules the casino itself claims to enforce. If management truly cares about their reputation, they should retrain their staff or reconsider who represents their brand at the front line. Until that happens, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere — and I suggest others do the same.

Went here with a friend and the vibe isn't what it used to be. They seem to be missing key features to attract people. Before there were buffets available, more tables open and when it has more patrons, the place becomes more upbeat. We went to one in Ottawa and it was night and day in comparison.

a terrific casino and entertainment center. it's always a good time. the staff are super friendly and courteous. the place is always neat and tidy. the security team keeps everything in order. a great vibe here. we had our emotional support dog and she respected the place while being quiet and sitting or laying down
Ray M — Google review
A completely controlled casino, with zero chance of winning on slot machines (bonuses don't even pay you half of what you've bet) or on tables (the machine that shuffles and deals the cards), plus very few tables open (only one table for 3 players playing doubles) and stifling heat inside. It's supposed to be on the highway and a pleasant stop, but it’s a complete disaster experience.

I was there attending they're 1812 Grand Tactical Weekend. A Charming Town with lots of History packed into it. Famous for its Ship building during that time period. Now the Town totally envelopes the Old Fort that was there in 1812. Lot's of interesting sites to see, with a trail down by the Lake. Plenty of shops and restaurants, plus some great pubs! Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Nice area to walk around and get a history lesson. Parking was a little confusing, didn’t really see the signs in front of the building until we were walking up.

Picture yourself enjoying this view on a breezy summer afternoon, walking around a cozy harbor. Seagulls flying, sailboats off in the distance, and plenty of space to enjoy your own experiance. Lots of history, the walking path is easy to negotiate, and a variety of parking is available. Truly a Hallmark experiance.

Beautiful park overlooking the harbor. Some historical building and small museum, alas, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
David M — Google review
We have always loved the charming construction if Sackets Harbor but never took time to explore some of its unique historical sites. We were impressed by the guided walkway that led you on a self guided tour with beautifully detailed maps and signs about the historical facts of each location. There was a "secret" trail down one side that led to a hidden rocky beach and 'sea caves' as dubbed by my niece who enjoyed adventuring along the rocky outcroppings with the dogs looking for "treasure" haha. All of the monuments were thoughtfully plaved and respectful. The walkways made it an easy path for anyone who may struggle on more rigorous hikes. There were plenty of benches to stop a d admire the scenery and views of the lakes and islands. We just wish it hadn't been such a rainy day but we still enjoyed our spring explorations.

If you're looking for something to do and enjoy little bits of history knowledge or even just a nice scenic walk, this place is quite nice. I'm not huge into history but it was rather nice learning about all that happened right here! I'm a little bummed that we didn't look more at where horse island was but it was neat learning about all of it. It's a nice walking path around and the view on the water is lovely too! Stroller friendly!

Nestled along the scenic shores of New York's historic landscape, Fort Sackets offers visitors a breathtaking backdrop for memorable experiences. During my recent visit, I was immediately enchanted by the captivating sunset that graced the horizon, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky. It truly stole the show and left a lasting impression. While the sunset was undeniably the highlight of my visit, I couldn't help but wish for a more immersive experience within the fort itself. The walking path, adorned with informative signs indicating the location of various points of interest, provided some insight into the fort's history. However, I longed for more tangible remnants of the past to explore and engage with. Nevertheless, despite the lack of extensive fort exploration, the panoramic views offered from Fort Sackets are unparalleled. The serene beauty of Lake Ontario stretching out before me, coupled with the warmth of the fading sun, created a truly magical ambiance. It's a place where time seems to stand still, inviting visitors to pause and appreciate the natural splendor that surrounds them. While Fort Sackets may lack in-depth historical immersion, its enchanting sunset vistas make it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. Whether you're seeking a tranquil spot to unwind or a picturesque setting to capture the beauty of nature, Fort Sackets delivers an unforgettable experience.

Staff was friendly, unloading and getting to the launch point was easy. Paddled on South Otter lake which was very quiet with beautiful Canadian Sheild scenery. Will probably take the bit longer drive and go to Salmon Lake next time. Visited on a Monday so don't know what weekends are like.

Tremendous park for hikes and programs. We went in May, no bugs and we were the only people on the trails, on Saturday and Sunday. Breathtaking vistas, more beaver dams than I've seen before and so many wildflowers.

Beautiful place. Well maintained sites with raised 16' x 16' wooden platforms for tents, metal bear boxes (careful about mice), and outhouses. Some of the grouped sites are very close - you're going to meet new friends! Our kids had fun looking for jumping rocks on Big Salmon and Camel Lake - there are a few!
Paul D — Google review
Beautiful park with knowledgeable staff. The trails are clearly marked with no exceptions in the 36 km loop I completed. The trails are varied from wide and clear to low traversed, see photos. The campsites are very close together so if you are looking for privacy at camp, during popular times of year, this may not be the park for you. I toured in late June during a fire ban following the 2023 wildfires. My one issue was the ticks! This area is heavily populated with ticks and I received many bites from full grown and nymphs. Know how to identify and remove ticks before entering this park.

To me nature is always 5 stars. I went to the park for a day pass and I enjoyed it to the max. I even helped reunite a dog with his family which was amazing. I loved it there regardless of the bugs. I would totally go again for a camping experience.

Frontenac PP never disappoints regardless of the season. A lot of well maintained hiking trails with clear marks and signs guide through the woods with many vista points. Many well established back country camp sites with fire pits, food boxes and outhouses, and access to water and firewood. Great weekend or multi day destination for a pleasant backpacking and camping trip.

Some describe it as a hidden gem, most likely hidden because it's in a very remote place that isn't easily found. Which means it's often not crowded, and usually available. The forest feels unending, the lakes are clean, clear and beautiful. The trails through the woods wind around trees, hills and flowing creeks, it's the perfect spot to experience the wilderness.

Fort Henry National Historic Site is a captivating glimpse into 19th-century military life, nestled at the confluence of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. This restored British fortification, built between 1832 and 1840, showcases impressive limestone structures that served as a defensive stronghold. Visitors can immerse themselves in history through guided tours or explore independently while enjoying engaging daily activities like flag ceremonies, cannon firings, and musical performances.
A very well maintained national historic site to learn about Canadian history and its military past. We spent around a couple of hours exploring the fort thoroughly. There are several restaurants, cafés, and a collectibles shop inside the fort. Along with the historic structures, everyday items from the past, and specific sections dedicated to different purposes, visitors can also enjoy live performances and drills. They’re informative and interesting to experience. Though we didn’t opt for it, one can also sign up for archery and rifle classes, which look very interesting. Even though it was a public holiday, finding a parking spot wasn’t an issue for us. And the views from the top are fantastic too!

Fabulous place to head up to watch the sunset. We went on the haunted walk at night which was relatively cool except we had a young person as part of the tour maybe 10 or 11 years old who didn't follow any of the rules repeatedly made noise and Flash their flashlight which really ruined the ambience and the parents weren't doing much about it. Lots of cool spiders though!

Good place for half day trip. Although, entry ticket is high compared to fort size and being national heritage size. Many restaurants inside the fort. Fort itself is well maintained and you can get free tour guide who explains different areas. Good collection of old guns, swords and some old cannons. Actors performing soldiers are very good and take their parts very active and seriously. They have good performances going on entire day which includes canon firing and gun firings. Overall good walk around the fort.

Amazing history and a wonderful tour! We watched the guards marching and rehearsing, and they demonstrated the use of musical instruments, signals, and drums — we even had a chance to play the drums ourselves. The guards also demonstrated the firing of guns. The fort has many rooms on display, and the gift shop offers freshly baked bread from an on‑site oven. It was a very educational and memorable experience!

Fort Henry was such a cool experience! The historic atmosphere, the costumed guides, and the live demonstrations (like the cannon firing and marching) really brought history to life. Great views over the lake and Kingston too. It’s fun for both adults and kids – especially the museum section and the tunnels. Totally worth the visit if you're anywhere near Kingston!
Amir K — Google review
A fantastic experience that is well worth the visit. Tickets are a little pricy but its made up for with fantastic staff that are all very knowledgeable about the fort and the history of it plus the live drills they perform. On top of this the views offered from the fort are breathtaking. I'd argue this is thee place to visit for anything historical about Kingston if you only had one place you could visit, this would be the one I would choose hands down.
Patrick B — Google review
To be fair before I begin, when we visited we were in the middle of a crazy hot period in the summer (heat warnings were in place) and a lot of Fort Henry is open and exposed, so our enjoyment may have been muted a little bit. Aside from the heat however, the tour and experience was very satisfying. The guided tour was somewhat informative although our guide seemed a little newer as he didn’t have answers for all questions asked. The costumed staff were a nice touch, however more context on who they were or what their function was during the period was would have been nice. Bistro and shops seemed out of place and not fitting with the historical significance of the Fort which detracted from the visit. More information and context would have been nice.
Eric C — Google review
This was first time back at Fort Henry since I was a kid back in 1996. The fort still looks the same. This was also my family’s first time visiting. We did the guided tour & the guide was a young lady who I can’t remember her name was so very knowledgeable, took time explaining everything in simple terms for the kids to understand. Only downside was the group was very large so it was a bit hard to hear her voice & see some of the places inside the fort. The canon firing was awesome to see & so was the other demonstrations & the final drum parade was amazing. One other thing the guide or the ticket agent didn’t mention was to stay off the canons so don’t climb on them or you will get yelled at by the staff as it happened to a few people.

Good Things 1. Great location, really close to downtown and the 1000 Islands and even ferries. 2. You can easily walk to a lot of nearby spots. 3. The housekeeping and room service staff were very nice and helpful. 4. One of the staff even brought me a duvet and set up the couch bed for me, which I really appreciated. Bad Things 1. The balcony and chairs were not clean at all. 2. We booked two rooms and asked to be on the same floor, but they didn’t arrange that. 3.The breakfast was too simple and not worth it. Better to skip it and grab something from a local café instead, especially if you’re young and want something better. 4. I couldn’t connect my phone to tv! They need new tvs, they are outdated.

This is a great location Easy to area to walk around Loved having a balcony. Stayed on the Riverview side on our way to Ottawa and the Harbor view on our way back to Toronto. Preferred the Riverview. Think it was a bit cheaper too. If one's preference is to look at the docked boats pick the Harborview Stayed 3 nights going and then 2 nights . The one disappointment was we left the sign out to please do the room and went out for the day. Left at 10 am and came back at 5pm. Room was not done. Sign still on the door. Just wondering why there are those signs if someone doesn't come. Really needed towels and garbage removed The breakfast offered is a plus.. Great choice of food and great staff working there in morning.

Excellent location with beautiful lake-view rooms and relaxing amenities. Rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the pool area was very pleasant. The bar was a highlight, especially the cozy tables with fire features. The downside was the restaurant: prices felt high and the food didn’t meet expectations for a hotel of this caliber. Overall, great stay for the views, pool, and bar; consider dining off-site for better value

We had a nice visit to Kingston on a late August day. We had a suite with a balcony and water view which was great. The room was clean and the view was stunning. We also had dinner at the Wharf and Feather restaurant out on the patio. The portions were quite tasty and large. We had the tuna tacos and fish and chips.

The hotel’s public reply to my earlier review is misleading. At check-in, we clearly informed the front desk that we did not use or need the car park. We never entered the carpark, which can be verified by CCTV footage. Yet, the hotel still charged us twice for parking (CAD 33.90 × 2) and later admitted the mistake in writing. They only refunded the charges after I escalated the case to IHG head office and posted two Google reviews — not before. Prior to that, all my emails and calls were ignored for weeks. Instead of taking full responsibility, the hotel’s public reply now tries to distract from their own admitted errors. They tried to imply that I was obliged to pay. This experience shows extremely poor communication and accountability. Guests should double-check all charges carefully.

The cleanliness of the room I was in wasn't up to 4 star standards. The sink has a buildup of grime under the lip. Just gross. There were fingerprints on the doors smudged and grimy. The bathroom was dusty and the door had not been cleaned in a while along with the dusting and cleaning in the washroom. The clean up staff were in the hall with a multitude of carts at 9am check out day. I found this not in keeping with a four star experience. The pool area has no wash up area. It has a shower area with no privacy at all. It is obvious that the vacuuming in the room was done overall with zero attention to detail. The sliding door had fingerprints on it. I was unpleasantly surprised to find that I got texts for unnecessary promotions at the hotel. I was also advised that parking is an add on costing $30 more per day. Front desk staff are very nice.
Sandi S — Google review
Nice downtown hotel with updated rooms with plenty of space, a mini fridge and a microwavd and a great location close to the cruises but since it's close to restaurants and bars, the noise levels were intense at times in the hotel and outside. The ac/heater is noisy when it kicks on and the pillows were way too soft. The parking pricing is ludicrous at $30/ night for hotel guests and $40/day for non guests. Service for check-in and checkout was simple and effortless.

Canada's Penitentiary Museum, also known as the Correctional Service of Canada Museum, is a must-visit attraction in Kingston. Located across from the famous Kingston Penitentiary, the museum offers a unique insight into Canadian correctional history. Visitors can explore artifacts and exhibits showcasing the role of Kingston in the country's prison system. The museum is housed in Cedarhedge, once the residence of the warden of Kingston Penitentiary.
As a museum is very interesting. Free access. As a human I had a very strange feeling about pain and horror people went through being locked in that environment. The museum itself is very impressive. Many documents, artifacts, all the history of the part of the reality we normally do not see. Thank you, people for this collections and stories.

Wow, what a thrilling experience touring Canada's Penitentiary in Kingston! Walking through those walls truly gave a chilling sense of how inmates lived. The visuals and descriptions of the famous riot were shockingly intense. Hearing real-time accounts from the staff was incredibly engaging and informative. The guides were absolutely the best, bringing history to life!
Saju H — Google review
Stopped by hear earlier in the day to learn about some of the history before my KP tour later in the day. The staff were all really friendly and easy to talk to. Spent about an hour here and had a great time. Admission is donation based and they also have a small gift shop. We gave $20 for 2 people and also got a pin at the shop which I hope was acceptable.
Sparkling I — Google review
Good museum to see, entrance by donation. About 8 rooms to explore. If you have done the Penitentiary across the way this museum is just rounding off your visit. Penitentiary itself is way more exciting. But this one is good for a rainy day. Was expecting more original artifacts and real recollection of what has happened. Give no insight into the female Penitentiary. Disciplinary methods used in the prison is interesting though. History depicted is all prisons over Canada not just Kingston.

Oh this is a must a few years ago did the penitentiary tour was amazing. This place was even more amazing all the cool items to see from the penitentiary the bell that broke in the 1971 riot is there really a must check entry is by donation which is amazing to.
Paul C — Google review
The place is still free but donations is highly encouraged (contact less is the fastest way to go) Has a lot of exhibits to look at and I like that they have sample exhibits of the jail and the common items you'd find in one (the Penitentiary across the street did not have this) Highly supplements the tour from the Penitentiary though and you get to understand the history more by going to both these places.
Vanne S — Google review
Cool house full of history. The exhibits are incredibly interesting as a slice of prison life. Make-shift weapons, knives, escape tools, fake heads, incredible, how inventive inmates were. Admission is via donations, so that makes it a excellent must visit.

Nestled in the charming landscapes of Prince Edward County, The County Cider Company - Tasting Room offers a delightful cider tasting experience set against the backdrop of its scenic orchard and vineyard. Established in 1995 on a family farm with a rich apple-growing heritage dating back to 1850, this estate winery boasts an impressive selection of artisanal ciders made from locally grown apples.
One of my favorite places in PEC! I'm coming every time I visit. The ciders are delicious. Their ice ciders are also incredibly good. They got a medal for their 2017 millésime. You can have pizza and there are gluten free options and you can enjoy it with cider by the vineyards with the view on the lake! What else? The service is excellent! Free parking. You can only have a good time here! Come in and see for yourself!
Nathalie P — Google review
This is a great place from early spring where it’s too cold to sit outside (so they make mini fires) to middle of the summer with their various ciders and menu options. There are always plenty of Instagram worthy photos with games and displays of the property. They make great gluten free options, which is nice for the celiac community. Locally owned and Operated, it is a county must!
M B — Google review
Went there in the middle of the summer. Food and cider were very nice and flavourful. Definitely recommend for a day trip and cider tasting with fair price and nice environment.
Mark K — Google review
They have a really great place, not just for tastings, but also for outdoor games and activities. We went with friends and had a great time. The only thing we found a bit strange was that the tasting portions were quite large, and the prices were high for that reason. You could easily get drunk just from the tasting, which seemed odd to us since it’s supposed to be just sampling. The ciders tasted good, and they occasionally offer seasonal ones that make it worth stopping by if it’s on your way. But fair warning , if you’re only aiming to taste, sharing one tasting board with another person would be a smart idea.
Asena H — Google review
Oh my goodness this is absolutely an incredible destination for all things sips of delicious cider, and yum of pizza overlooking the lake, on a road trip to Wapoos in PECounty. You must visit as they have warm hospitality and incredible tasting cider! Cheers, Spicy Jan

Awesome experience! Great cider! The could not try their restaurant as it had over 1.5hr wait time. I would recommend they add more tables (and increase profits!).

Great spot in the county. The cider is good and recently they've expanded their menu to include beer and cocktails. They've long has pizza but now they also have tacos and charcuterie. Did I mention the view?

Bodies of Water
Lake on the Mountain is a serene and mysterious body of water in Prince Edward County, with no apparent water source. It's a popular spot for fishing, offering opportunities to catch bass, pike, and sunfish. Surrounding the lake are charming boutiques and shops where visitors can find local produce and specialty items like cheese and mustard. There are also cozy coffee shops nearby such as Enid Grace Culinary, Beacon Bike and Brew, The Bean Counter & Cafe, and Picnic Cafe.
Great place for photos but area is small. Mostly on the way pit stop or on route picnic. Great lookout point ferry nearby to save 30 minutes to reach 401.

Cool to see IF you're already in the area. There are no hiking trails and really, no water access. Don't waste your time paying for parking! You only need a few minutes to view Lake on the Mountain and Lake Ontario! Parking payment was difficult online and the minimum was $3 for 2h. We were there about 15 min! Lol!

A cool park where you can see Lake Ontario and then Lake on the Mountain around 60m above that (you really understand the name when you see it). I’d say it’s probably not worth a long drive but definitely worth a stop if it’s on your way. A new viewing deck is being built currently

Nestled in the heart of Prince Edward County, Sandbanks Provincial Park is a stunning recreational oceanfront destination renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. Home to the largest sand dune system in the world and a picturesque freshwater sandbar, this park offers an array of outdoor activities from April to October. With over 600 campsites available—ranging from fully equipped sites with electricity to more secluded walk-in options—there's something for everyone looking to immerse themselves in nature.
Sandbanks is an absolute gem and easily one of the most stunning beaches in Ontario. The sand is soft and clean, the water is clear and refreshing, and the shoreline seems to stretch forever. It’s the perfect spot whether you want to swim, sunbathe, or just take a relaxing walk along the beach. The dunes are gorgeous and make for great photo opportunities, and there’s plenty of space so it never feels overly cramped, even on busier days. The shallow, gentle waters make it ideal for families, while the wide open views are pure bliss for anyone looking to unwind.

The outlets beach is the most popular, with it's expansive, two-kilometre-long shoreline, soft, white sand and rolling waves, thousands flock here each summer. 750,000 of them, in fact. A day-use-only beach, you're required to book your visit in advance to guarantee entry, but it's worth it. There's a restaurant on site and many washrooms and changing rooms nearby. Plenty of parking but get there early for a good spot.

Sandbanks Provincial Park is an amazing spot for a picnic, a relaxing day at the beach, and swimming. The beach is entirely sandy with no rocks, making it ideal and comfortable for swimming. To enter the park, you’ll need to reserve or register in advance. The park is well-equipped with change rooms, bathrooms, and plenty of parking. There’s also lots of space to sit and relax near the water, whether you’re sunbathing, snacking, or just taking in the view. A perfect getaway for a summer day!

So beautiful. The camp sites are nice. Happy to hear the comfort station is getting an upgrade. Though I’ll doubt they will change the footprint, more stalls are needed. The bathroom is always busy with its proximity to the beach and all the camp sites. The sunsets are gorgeous. We always have a wonderful time here. Highly recommend!

A stunning provincial park. The park itself is quite big. They have two park stores, a few trails and lots of beach space. We only stayed for a day but the campsites looked nice as well. Lots of friendly staff and endless beaches to explore.

This was a wow experience, Desert in Ontario and I really mean it, miles of desert around, I went early morning like 9.30 AM, ensure to reserve a day pass from Canada Parks website, the beaches have basic facilities- clean washroom and changing rooms, lot of benches etc, and parking is near to the beaches.
Prasun G — Google review
Today was a wonderful day at the Dunes Beach!! Blue sky, clear water, not too busy for a summer Friday, and a positively awesome experience. We have been to Outleat and Lakeshore Beaches in previous years, and even then, this park does not disappoint! Waves can be fun, but wind gusts were only up to 15km/h instead of 40km/h, which made it suitable for paddleboarding on the water. It's about 500 meters from Dunes Trail parking to the shore. However, paddling on the shore is much easier for finding beach space than treading on the deep, hot sand anyway! The beach is so nice and clean despite all the negative fishy news circulating on social media. Be ready for sand, lots of it! We are planning for more trips this summer!

Massive park! More for adults etc. (no playground no bathroom) on-site large free parking, then 1 trail around outside perimeter of park with grass, trees and huge hills for the rest of the park. Up against body of water which was disgusting and all against shores was hundreds of dead floating fish and foam which came with its added nasty smell. Other than that though, very nice very clean.

Beautiful little spot to go for a walk especially if you are staying in the Ramada hotel nearby. The park has a really nicely maintained cement path as well as a large fenced dog park area.

Say what you will about Belleville. Yes it’s a small town but it’s location more than makes up for it! What can be so bad when you’re right next door to Prince Edward County? 🥳 The area by the bridge is full of plentiful green space and waterfront. It’s very pleasant. 👍😎
Yodaman S — Google review
Hands down one of my favorite trails to do in Belleville! Especially for cycling and at dusk! 🌌🖤💜💙🤍 This trail is smaller than some of the other ones around town but it's still gorgeous nonetheless and a decent ride and pretty big walk if you do the entire Zwicks trail. For light walkers or strollers I suggest starting with this side and if it's not enough then do the whole loop. This side is the opposite of the children's park so it's normally not as busy and more quiet, but it depends on the day and if anything is going on down there. There's also the dog park on this side but it's all fenced off and is only a fraction of it. During the winter the top of the main hill is one of us locals favorite spots to toboggan too! Overall for Belleville it's a perfect little park on both sides of Zwicks with a little bit of everything for everyone of all ages. If your visiting Belleville and want one in town I highly recommend this one and Riverside Park as well. Both have beautiful trails along the water and both have parks for the kiddos

This is a pretty big park and is also dog friendly. They can go off leash. I went for a morning walk and there were several dogs and their owners walking in the park. The surrounding area is picturesque too and there are some area where there nicely landscaped, making it a very nice place to exercise. The path is wide and the place is well maintained. I did not see any homeless people so I assume it is safe too.

I mainly go down to the dog park with my boy, Bogan. The lighting at the park makes it almost useless at night, because there us none. On our walks around zwicks, the trail is well lit with many benches and picnic tables to stop and take in the views.

The winery also provides an interactive guided tour of the wine-making process. Additionally, guests can explore artisan cheese at the Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company located nearby.
Susan was amazing! 10/10 experience talking about the County, surrounding attractions, the history and story of different wines.. I cannot wait to come back and indulge in this experience. There's a food truck that opens from from Thursday to Monday. No restaurant on site. The winery do offer wine tasting with food pairings. Very relaxed atmosphere, we enjoyed our wine tasting in a covered cabana. There are lots of outdoor cabanas that are spaced out adequately for wine tasting. It's a very cozy experience, didn't feel crowded at all. Also a wine tour is available.

We went PEC a week ago weekend we picked Sandbanks winery because it’s popular in PEC. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual. Dog friendly too. We picked 3 of each wine for tasting and had some food truck food. I liked their wine. Light and easy to drink but not so much to my husband. Caramelized onion grilled cheese was yummy.

I went with my boyfriend for our anniversary to try the 3 wines for $10, and it was the perfect plan. The weather and the setting were beautiful, and the wines were very good. The only thing I would change is that there was not much explanation. We were seated in a more isolated area, and I noticed that other people had different chairs and wine flights, while we were served one glass at a time. I wasn’t sure if there were different packages or what options were available. Still, it is a great plan to do with family, and even more so if you are a wine lover.

A great spot for a wine tasting. Likely the busiest of the area, they offer a wide selection of wines, including the rarely seen Marsanne varietal (at least in this region). Our group walked away with a number of those bottles as it was a winery exclusive. The Big Red was also a favourite. The staff was excellent and offered a outdoor semi-private area for our group of 10. Well done!

✨ Intimate Elopement at Sandbanks Winery ✨ We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience than the one Sandbanks Winery gave us for our elopement. From the moment we reached out, their team made the entire process—booking, planning, and the ceremony itself —completely seamless and stress-free. Every detail was handled with care and professionalism, and their flexibility and friendliness made us feel truly supported throughout. The setting was breathtaking: nestled in the heart of Prince Edward County, the barrel room and vineyard provided a romantic and intimate environment that was family friendly. The attention to detail was evident in every corner—from the beautifully arranged prep and ceremony spaces to the elaborate and delicious charcuterie spread that made the day feel uniquely ours. If you're considering an elopement or any special event, I can’t recommend Sandbanks Winery enough. 🍷💍

The winery has become a popular destination, attracting wine enthusiasts and the hipster crowd alike. Visitors can savor the exquisite wines while indulging in delicious pizza from the on-site oven, all against the backdrop of picturesque vineyards.
A Fabulous Experience at Norman Hardie Winery What a fabulous place! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of charm. The food was absolutely outstanding—particularly the biltong, which was a delightful and unexpected treat, and the pizza, which was hands down some of the best we’ve had. Perfectly crisp crust, fresh toppings, and full of flavor. What really set the experience apart, though, was the personal touch. Norman Hardie himself was on-site, mingling with guests and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. It’s rare to see that kind of hands-on care and passion, and it made the visit feel extra special. He wasn’t just attentive to the people—he was also making sure the dogs were happy too! It’s clear that this is a place where everyone is welcome. It’s not often you wine taste at a winery that has wines in 30 Michelin star restaurants around the world! Beautiful location with a lot of character and history. Every winery in Prince Edward County boasts a unique micro-climate that gives their grapes distinction. This winery has a great restaurant as well that features wood fired pizza and oysters. It is busy; 20 to 45 minute waits, but people stay. You can wine taste while waiting for your table. I highly recommend dropping in if you’re passing through Prince Edward County!

We arrived around 2pm for lunch and all the tables were full, the waitress asked whether we would want to sit at the oyster bar. We gladly accepted. It was actually quite relaxing looking over at the vineyards while enjoying our lunch. The oysters were fresh and our wood fired mushroom pizza was delicious! We will definitely come back again if we are in the area.

My visit to Norman Hardie was nothing short of phenomenal. The journey began with an exceptional tasting flight of Pinot Noirs, each one layered and expressive, until I discovered the 2016 vintage—so perfectly ready to drink that I couldn’t resist leaving with a few bottles. Later, I enjoyed another couple of glasses alongside a fabulous margarita pizza, the perfect pairing. Before diving into the pizza, I stopped by the oyster bar—a refreshing way to start the meal. The fact that everything is cooked outside adds to the magic, with wood-fired aromas and a rustic charm filling the air. Despite being packed, the space felt cozy and inviting, with a barn-life authenticity that makes this winery so unique in Prince Edward County. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, guiding the tasting with enthusiasm and ensuring the restaurant experience flowed seamlessly. The atmosphere, wine, and food combined to create one of the most memorable afternoons I’ve had in the County. I truly recommend setting aside a few hours to soak it all in—this is not a quick stop, but rather a full experience worth savoring. And don’t leave without a few bottles to take home—you’ll be grateful to relive the tastes later.

Highly recommend Norman Hardie Winery. Great staff & beautiful location. I took my boyfriend who was visiting from the USA. We absolutely loved it. Large parking area. We got there just in time for lunch before it started to get busy. We got the perfect table. In the sunshine at a wine barrel table. Just added to the rustic vibe. We love it. It was a perfect fall day. Colours in the area of all the trees were magical. He loved the wine & I loved the shop. We both absolutely loved the pizza. Perfectly cooked. Thin crust in a stone oven like real Italian pizza should be. It was our 2nd stop of four & our favourite place that day. He experienced a wine tasting while I bought some jam. Such an amazing experience. Thank you.

I was honestly surprised at how fantastic the wine was, I thought it would be good, but it was better than expected! Great variety of wines, nice and dry style, wild fermentation for most, and great, bubbly wine tasting guides. Pizza was also excellent at the restaurant!

One of our favorite wineries that we visited in the county. The views were amazing and their installations were really well done. The wine tasting allows you to try 4 different wines and if you purchase for 60$ of wines, your tasting are free. The wines were really great and the explications were very well detailed. We headed to their terrasse restaurant after and ordered 2 pizzas and a jale cesar salad. The pizza was to die for, a must try when you visit this place. Overall the experience was well worth the stop. Highly recommend 👌!

Great place, beautiful driving circuit and hiking trails, majestic old growth forest, huge beach area, camping was very nice and spacious amongst large trees/forest. The nature exhibit was full of great interactive displays showing awesome fossils, lots of real stuffed animals, educational challenges (like identifying trees), interesting facts. The lighthouse maritime museum was neat too with great displays, interactive features (like knot tying challenges), interesting facts... the staff at the museum and nature center were cery friendly and went out of their way to answer questions and help the kids engage with the displays. The facilities are well-maintained, with the washrooms being exceptionally clean. From the parking lot, it's a short 400-meter walk to the beach. We chose Beach 1, which was beautiful and had good, clean water. One thing to note is that there are no garbage bins at the beach itself, so you need to carry your trash back to the parking area where the bins are located. Additionally, pets and drones are not allowed. Overall, it's a great spot for a day trip, and we had a fantastic time!

I love this place. There are a lot of things for you and your kids to discover. The park is clean and well layout. We spend a lot of time on the beach, the water is warm and shallow. The sunset there is stunning. A visit to the light house is a must; there is a small beach with rocks that you can skipping rocks. The shop near the light house provides lot of information too. The park has daily activities for children and adults to do too, and you can find all the info in the shop.

Great place to spend one day or two hours! I would recommend starting with the Nature Centre and Lighthouse/Interpretative Centre, because they have some fun (albeit old) exhibits and very friendly staff on hand to provide you with suggestions and answer any questions. You can drive all the way to the tip of the park, which is convenient, but the road also makes it feel less natural as they take up so much space. So, if you’re looking for a more natural hiking environment this might not be the place for you; if you just want to relax and do some short, casual walks, this is a great place! The Marsh Boardwalk trail is not to be missed and late afternoon is a great time to do it for perfect lighting. The trail is very easy and quite short, with plenty of short, informative plaques along the way. The horse trees offer some interesting photo opportunities.

Loved our camping trip to Presqu’ile! So much to do and see! Highlights for us: seeing the lighthouse (and the visiting the little museum), walking the marshy boardwalk trail and taking in the wildlife, bird watching and ice cream! The camping store is well equipped with things you might need and has nice extras such as ready-to-drink coffee and hot chocolate! Staff was very friendly. Ice and firewood for sale as well. Main bathrooms were pretty clean and a short walk from our campsite. It was too cold to go swimming so cant speak to that but overall a great park to visit in Southern Ontario!

It wasn’t a day with great weather when we visited but we enjoyed it anyway. I think the best one is the Owen point trail for a winter visit. There weren’t any birds or wild life in the cold but the view and point is still special. A nice spot for the long drive between Toronto and Montreal. The toilet isn’t quite nice though. Try using it before you enter the park.

A very good place for spending a day with family. Do not forget to visit "Park Center" and the light house. If you are a fan of cycling, this is the place for you. Very good beaches, but do not forget to have sun screens and off spray. Staff are friendly. Please do you best to keep the environment clean and do not leave any trash behind or do not cut tree branches etc. You can enjoy a beautiful sunset at the end of the day by the beach.

The Big Apple

Restaurant
The Big Apple in Colborne is a popular roadside attraction that offers a variety of activities for visitors. From counter-serve dining to mini golf and kiddie train rides, there's something for everyone. The venue features a bakery, cidery, country store, and market, making it an ideal stopover during any season. Visitors can enjoy mouth-watering dishes like pulled pork sandwiches and smoked chicken wraps at the Smokehouse Kitchen.
We recently took a one-day trip to the Big Apple, and it was a lovely experience, especially for the kids! The place is small but full of little joys – from the charming petting zoo to a fun gaming zone that kept the children entertained throughout. One of the highlights was walking inside the giant apple structure and reaching the top — the view from there was quite refreshing! Their bakery offers a variety of apple-themed goodies that smell divine, though slightly on the pricey side. Still, worth trying once for the experience. Overall, it’s a great short getaway spot if you're traveling with kids. Simple, fun, and filled with memories!

Very nice, cool building. “Did you know?” The Big Apple is the largest apple shaped structure in the entire WORLD! I think The Big Apple houses many apple themed products such as apples, (i think) apple pie, apple bread, and more! The washrooms are super cool themed and very clean. One of the sinks in the men’s bathroom, I believe the one closest to the door on the left when you enter, had really strong water pressure like a laser. There’s also a good amount of food trucks and ice cream too outside, as well as a sweets section in the building.
Max N — Google review
How cool is that? There’s endless possibilities of snacks and treats with apples. The Big Apple is such a vibe, goes to show how much you can do with one fruit. There is every kind of apple treat you can think of, pies, donuts, cider, candy apples, you name it! The petting zoo is cool too and the whole place just feels like the perfect little road trip stop with the family or friends. 100% worth it! 🍏

Everything was nice here from the freshly baked pies, donuts, chocolate, fudge and coffee. Cashier's nice and friendly. Over all the place is kept very nice and clean as well as the bathrooms. I have to admit the food that they serve was not great from the chicken fingers, fries and wraps. I was hungry so I ate the tasteless Caesar wrap. The turkey and cheddar sandwich was super disappointing due to a processed patty. The burger and hot dog was edible for the kids. Not sure about the oil they used, the fries and chicken was not enjoyable, even the kids couldn't eat it with ketchup. I figured the next day to re heat the fries in the air fryer they had a weird smell and taste. I threw them all out. I would not recommend the items I purchased at all. It was very disappointing $70 food purchase for 5 meals.

We swung by The Big Apple for what was meant to be just a quick stop, and wow, what a mistake! This place is seriously fun and has so much more going on than just the giant, iconic roadside attraction. We actually tried to come during the summer for the petting zoo, but by the time we finished with the animals, the big store was already closed. I'm so glad we got the chance to go inside today! I didn’t get as many photos as I wanted because we were too busy running around, but trust me, the main store inside is huge. It’s not just a gift shop; it's packed floor-to-ceiling with local jams, regional treats, amazing pies, and all sorts of fun novelty items. My quick stop turned into an hour instantly. If you're planning a trip, prepare to lose some time! You could easily spend 2 to 3 hours here just browsing, grabbing some delicious fresh-baked goods, and exploring the whole area. It’s a great spot for families or anyone needing a memorable, delicious pit stop. Highly recommend, but definitely don't rush it like we did!
Faria J — Google review
You can really feel the passion of the owner in keeping The Big Apple thriving. The place offers a wonderful variety of food, freshly baked products, candies, and cider — all showcasing its lively spirit. With excellent parking for both cars and tour buses, it has truly become an iconic must-visit stop along Highway 401 heading east.
Liza T — Google review
Great place to visit with your family and friends. They have a little bit of everything, food, gift, bakery, candies and even an pet zoo. The food was super tasty and the portion were very good, we were super impressed and satisfied with the flavour and prices of everything.
Iliary D — Google review
This place is a worthwhile pit stop for long travels but I do not recommend it as a travel destination (if that makes sense). The place has got every necessary thing a pit stop station would have but make it all apple. There is also a small restaurant located at the back of the grocery area with outdoor seats. The shop stands outside were closed when we visited on a weekday afternoon, however. 🥐🥪 pastries were freshly made and were enjoyable but some may find it a little too sweet. ___________ Upon exiting the store through the back door, you will see the Big Apple to your left, and next to it are some apple trees. To the left, there is a mini-putt activity for free and a ramp to exit the building. ___________ You can enter the apple through the side entrance. There are a total of 3 flights of stairs to access the very top part of the apple. It is spacious, dusty and ventilated by 2 electric fans on the second floor. There are also a few benches on the second floor. Overall, it is such a beautiful place to stop by and keep the morale of a long trip.

Riverview Park & Zoo

Outdoor Activities
Riverview Park & Zoo, located in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, is a beloved destination for families and nature enthusiasts. This year-round attraction offers free admission and showcases over 45 species of animals, including Emu, Wallaby, Two-Toed Sloth, and River Otter. The park features a diverse playground with a splash pad and a frisbee golf course. Visitors can also enjoy a mini-train ride through the scenic surroundings.
Great spot for families, but plan ahead for the train ride! Riverview Park & Zoo is a hidden gem for families! The best part? Free admission and parking, which makes it a super budget-friendly day out. The zoo is small but well-kept, featuring over 40 species including monkeys, otters, camels, and meerkats. Perfect for younger kids who won’t get tired walking too far. There’s also a huge playground, splash pad, picnic areas, and scenic riverside trails. The grounds are very clean and shady—great for hot days. Definitely pack a lunch though, as there’s no working concession stand on-site as of 2025. **A heads-up: on weekends, the line for the miniature train can be 1.5 to 2 hours long, even if you already have tickets. Tickets are only $2 per person but often sell out by 4 PM, even though the train is advertised to run until 6 PM. So if the train is a must-do, buy your tickets early and expect a bit of a wait.** Overall it’s a great place to spend a few hours with kids. Just plan ahead and come early—especially if you want that train ride!

The park is amazing for a day out with family. The kids play area has different sections for different age groups. The splash pad is also very nice for the kids to enjoy. The zoo area is great with a lot of animals to see. I had never seen a sloth before. The parking and zoo are free here. They do accept donations though. All in all a great place to see a lot of things and relax in the park.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Peterborough Zoo. It’s such a nice place to spend a few hours, and the best part is that it’s free to enter. The zoo is not huge, but it has a really good variety of animals, and everything is well looked after. The enclosures are clean, and you can tell the staff care about the animals. My favorite part was watching the monkeys and the big cats – they were so fun to see up close. The walking paths are easy to follow, and there’s plenty of space to just relax and enjoy nature. It’s also a great place for kids, with the playground and picnic areas making it feel more like a family park than just a zoo. Parking was easy, and the whole place felt safe and welcoming. Overall, it’s a hidden gem in Peterborough and definitely worth visiting.

Riverview Park and Zoo is such a great spot, and the best part is that it’s completely free! The zoo itself is pretty good with a nice variety of animals, but what really stood out for us were the kids’ play areas. They’re awesome — lots of space to run around and different structures to explore. My 3-year-old especially loved the long slide, which quickly became the highlight of our visit. It’s a perfect family outing spot with a good mix of animals, green space, and fun for the kids. Definitely worth checking out!
Franck M — Google review
This is a great spot to take the younger kids. Our 4yr old grandson enjoyed the animals and then a little play time in the park. They do have a splash zone area as well. There is no fee to enter and enjoy all it had to offer. A couple public washroom areas however the line up were a turn off. One suggestion if I could offer is to have the screening windows cleaned maybe more often throughout the day. We really had no contact with staff . You are basically on your own . I do recommend it for the kids as it gives plenty of options to entertain them!
Dorothy B — Google review
Nice park and zoo in Peterborough. Perfect place to bring your kids and family. There are kids play area, water splash pad, zoo and ample parking. Lots of picnic tables as well if you plan to have lunch or dinner after some exciting moment with your kids. This park also has a free zoo with lot of animals to see. Kids will love it for sure. Donation to the park is appreciated as they have to maintain everything for free. The park and every place was maintained very well. Everything was clean. The splash pad water was not too cold which was good and convenient for the kids. There is a parking and access area towards the river but the parking was closed when we visited. Overall very pleased and definitely recommended.
Satyam R — Google review
Wow, this place is small but so many animals to see. Plus, there is a train ride. That ride was closed today but we will make sure to go again, the following year. And the animals are so cute. There's otters, camals, sloths, llamas, ducks, snakes, just to name a few. There's a splash pad, play area for the kids, not too much walking. Plenty of pinic areas. The size is really good. Will go again.
Cedric — Google review
Such a wonderful place for families! The splash pad, playground, and zoo are all free to enjoy thanks to the generosity of donors and the community. It’s rare to find a place like this where you can see animals, let the kids play, and enjoy a relaxing picnic—all without an entrance fee. The park is clean, well-maintained, and full of shade for a summer day. We’re so grateful for the donations and support that keep this place running. It’s a true gem in Peterborough. Highly recommend visiting and, if you’re able, consider making a donation to help keep it free for everyone.

Sights & Landmarks
The Peterborough Lift Lock, a remarkable feature of the Trent-Severn Waterway, stands as a testament to modern engineering prowess. This impressive hydraulic boat lift elevates vessels by an astonishing 65 feet, making it the highest of its kind globally. Completed in 1904 and designed by Richard Birdsall Rogers, this National Historic Site offers visitors a glimpse into the ingenuity of early 20th-century engineering.
It's a good place to understand how a lock works and learn Canadian history. Good for family, students and tourists. The scenery around the lock is also beautiful, especially in fall, wothy to spend some time walking around and enjoying a picnic. The visitor center nearby will closed in fall and winter. when it open, you can use the washroom inside and learn more about the hydraulic locks. See the beautiful pictures I took in fall 2019
Ken X — Google review
Fascinating piece of Canadian engineering and history. Watching the boats pass through the lock system is both relaxing and impressive. The area is well-maintained, perfect for a peaceful stop, picnic, or short walk. A great spot to learn about how the waterways connect Ontario's lakes and rivers.

I recently visited the Peterborough Lift Lock, and it was a fascinating experience. The surrounding park is perfect for a picnic, and the nearby visitor center offers informative exhibits and a short film about the Trent-Severn Waterway. Climbing the stairs to the top provides a panoramic view of the area, making it a must-see spot for anyone in the region

A beautiful structure and fun place to be at the annual paddle and lock event in July! Would come again but maybe in a canoe or a comfortable kayak (not a playboat kr white water kayak) as you may be sitting in this for 3-4 hours (specifically for the paddle lock event) depending on crowd sizes and line ups to get up and down the lock!

Really cool place to see but the visitor center was closed when we arrived. The scale of the lift is not obvious until you are up close. You can walk to the lock and go up the stairs to see it from the top. All in all, with the history of has, worth the visit.

The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough is a treasure trove of over 100 canoes, kayaks, and paddled watercraft that offer a fascinating glimpse into Canada's rich history. The museum showcases the world's largest collection of these water vessels, with around 150 on display and an additional 500 housed in a nearby 'canoe cathedral' warehouse.
Visiting The Canadian Canoe Museum was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the incredible collection of canoes, kayaks, and paddled watercraft from all over the world. Each piece tells a unique story, beautifully connecting Canada’s history, culture, and traditions with the present. The exhibits are interactive and engaging — perfect for visitors of all ages. I loved being able to immerse myself in hands-on displays and learn about the craftsmanship behind canoe building. The museum does a fantastic job blending storytelling, art, and education. One of the highlights was the opportunity to experience on-the-water adventures. Paddling right outside the museum added a whole new level of connection to what I had seen indoors. The outdoor spaces are stunning, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed to complement the museum experience. Overall, The Canadian Canoe Museum offers a perfect mix of history, adventure, and fun. Whether you're passionate about paddling or just curious about Canada’s rich heritage, it’s definitely worth the visit

An awesome museum worth every minute! It's amazing to see such a great collection of canoes through history - ones from famous stories, famous people, and monumental events. Learng about canoe culture is particularly interesting seeing as I'm a travelling Australian. Go check it out.

We loved the tour! It's easy to spend about 2 hours in their stunning new home. With about 100 canoes on display and another 1000 or so in storage, there is alot to see. The history, the craftsmanship, the variety, the stories of the original owners and their adventures add up to a uniquely Canadian experience, well worth a visit!

Beautiful new museum and exhibit overlooking Little Lake in Peterborough! Very comfortable and chill atmosphere. Took the afternoon tour with the kids and felt like they were able to get a lot more out of the exhibit. Very kid friendly with video, listening stations, scavenger hunt, and drawing pages.

Darn! What a nice museum here in Peterborough Ontario. I found out afterwards that this town was the birthplace so to speak of the canoe. So it’s no wonder the Canoe Museum is here in Peterborough. It’s such a nice museum and lots of facts and figures to explore throughout. The only gripe I have is that I thought the price was maybe a little much for what they have but honestly it is worth it if you want to learn the history of the canoe. 👍😎
Yodaman S — Google review
I really wanted to love this place. With a really curious mind who can be interested in almost anything and a love of canoes (been canoeing since I was 8 years old and own my own cedar-strip canoe built for me), I still found the exhibits pretty dry and the labeling not engaging. The best part of my visit was seeing the canoe vault.

Fascinating museum showcasing both the mastery and beauty of the canoe, but the history of the indigenous peoples and their journeys. Also an astounding piece of architecture, using natural materials to perfection.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario, Cobourg Beach is a delightful destination that promises a perfect day out for families and friends alike. With its inviting white sands and gentle waves, this beach offers an idyllic setting to unwind under the sun. The well-maintained area features a boardwalk lined with picnic spots, playgrounds for kids, and even a snack bar to satisfy your cravings.
My 2 sisters and I visited this beach yesterday, Thursday, July 3rd, 2025. It was a beautiful day, hot but not humid ... and being by Lake Ontario felt cool and refreshing! At the South end of Victoria Park, the long stretch of clean, sandy beach was soft to walk on and quite deserted after the Canada Day festivities! There was a playground for children complete with a splash pad and food truck. Further to the West, where the lighthouse was, there is a wonderful walkway with a beautiful view of the Marina. There is also a dock where we watched kids (maybe a camp) enjoying various water activities such as sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding and swimming. We only drove through the Downtown core, but saw lots of neat stores and restaurants! Loved the area! The only downside was that it was impossible to find free parking by the Lake ($5/hr-$40/day). Still, I would recommend coming here for a visit ... even if it's just for a few short hours! 😊👍💜

We had such a wonderful day at Cobourg Beach! The weather was absolutely perfect — sunny, warm, and with just the right breeze coming off the lake. The beach itself was clean, well maintained, and very family-friendly, which made it an ideal spot for a relaxing day outdoors. The sand was soft and golden, perfect for walking barefoot or building sandcastles. The water was clear and refreshing, and it stayed shallow enough near the shore for the kids to play safely for hours. They had an amazing time running around, splashing in the waves, and making new friends. There were plenty of spots to sit, relax, and enjoy the view, whether you wanted to spread out a blanket, set up chairs, or just stroll along the shoreline. The atmosphere felt peaceful yet lively — families, couples, and groups all enjoying the sunshine without it ever feeling too crowded. We also appreciated how clean and well-kept everything was, from the beach itself to the nearby restrooms and picnic areas. Parking was easy to find, and local cafes and ice cream shops nearby added to the experience — perfect for a quick bite after swimming. Overall, Cobourg Beach is a beautiful, welcoming place for families and anyone who loves the lake. We’ll definitely be coming back soon — it’s one of those places that leaves you smiling long after you’ve left.

Cobourg Beach is a beautiful and well-maintained spot that’s perfect for a relaxing day trip. The beach is incredibly clean, with soft sand and clear water, making it a great destination for families. One of the highlights is how shallow the water is near the shore—perfect for kids to play safely without worrying about sudden depths. The area is very family-friendly, and the nearby washroom facilities are clean and conveniently located, which adds to the comfort of spending a full day at the beach. Whether you’re looking to relax, have a picnic, or splash around with the kids, Cobourg Beach is a fantastic choice!

Nice beach downtown Cobourg. The sand is soft and brown. Beach is very clean. Parking is just beside. It's 5$ / hour. Water is a bit cold, very nice place for young kids. We were there for the weekend. The marina is just on the other side. Also there is a camping site just behind the beach. You can easily go grab something to eat from a restaurant nearby, in a easily walkable lap of time.

Visited here recently for the first time and my kids had a blast. They loved the clear shallow water and clean sand. There is also a park and splash pad to enjoy and wash the sand off. However the water does seem to shut off early in the evening. There's a convenient path for wheelchairs or stroller. My kids say this is their new favourite beach!

For those looking to escape downtown and explore other cities near Toronto and beyond, Cobourg Beach is a great option. The city is about an hour and 20 minutes from Toronto, and has a good road network. There are many paid parking options, but they're all very busy. There are also paid street parking spaces, which are also very busy, so you might have to drive around for a few minutes to find a spot if you're looking for something closer to the beach. Parking usually costs $40 Canadian dollars for 8 hours. Dogs are not allowed on the beach, and there are signs warning you of this, so be aware. Barbecuing is not allowed on the beach; there are camping and parking areas for that; read the instructions on the city website. There are some public restrooms scattered throughout the city, but depending on the time of day, they can unfortunately get quite dirty. The beach restroom has changing tables. The city has many restaurants and tourist attractions, such as the city hall. For those who prefer to stay farther from the main beach entrance, pay attention to the signs indicating a reserved beach or residential area, as homeowners are always there to point this out (I don't know how the law works, but it's good to know). For visitors with disabilities, the parking lots near the beach have designated spaces for those with disabilities. The beach path has a rubberized surface for wheelchairs, canes, and walkers. It's worth a visit, as well as the small waves and crystal-clear water.

This beach has only gotten better over the years! It’s surprisingly clean despite the numerous visitors… we did not notice any litter. Even the porta potties are clean. And even with so many people enjoying the beach, it never felt crowded or chaotic. Police and ambulance are on sight. The sand on the beach is so soft, and there is no seaweed along the shore. There are plenty of food trucks on site now, and they even have bouncy castles! The splash pad was a hit for our little guy, and the two little playgrounds also provide added amusement for kids. Definitely worth the drive from Toronto—we will happily visit here again!

A beautiful and peaceful beach in Ontario, perfect for a relaxing day. The water is clean, the sandy shore is soft, and it’s great for swimming on warm sunny days. Right next to the beach is Victoria Park — a large green space with plenty of picnic areas, a splash pad, and children’s playgrounds. There’s also a wide, scenic boardwalk by the harbour that’s perfect for walking or just enjoying the view. Highly recommended for families, couples, or solo visitors during the summer!

Charming community performing arts center with ornate, old-world decor & intimate seating.
The Capitol is truly one of the most BEAUTIFUL theatres in all of Canada. It is rich in history and the shows never disappoint. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve even danced along with some of the performances. They have created such a well rounded experience from the concession stand to the photo backdrops to commemorate the moment. It is truly where community, art and culture thrive.

A quaint theater in the very pretty town of Port Hope. The staff are extremely patient, helpful & friendly! Inside the theater is decorated beautifully, washrooms are easily accessible & the seats are very comfy! Only negative point would be that there was no intermission for the hour & a half show which can prove to be challenging for little ones & seniors. Check their website for upcoming shows!

What a hidden gem! I've seen a few plays here now, and they are top-notch quality. The set designs are incredible. This theatre is quite nice and there are no bad seats. The actors have a long list of credits, and we're amazing. Overall, I'd say Toronto Mirvish theatre quality for half the price. Worth the drive!

I watched the final performance of Waitress here, and it was amazing. From the set, to the cast, to the singing/sound technicians. It was amazing! I have spent a lot more money Downtown Toronto ($100+) and had a lot less fun. Lol I can't wait to come back! Community Theatres are kinda a hidden gem. I have a feeling you won't regret trying them out.
