Hiking Trails
Just a fantastic park for the whole family and pets to hike and explore and really convenient to get to. The hiking trail range from easy to moderate but has amazing old growth forest scenery and charm not to mention 2 small waterfalls that are just wonderful to spend time at and explore. The extensive trail system allows you to decide how much time you want to spend in the park but you can easily spend 1/2 a day here walking all the trails in this park to take in all it has to offer. I can see why people would keep coming back to the trails at this park over and over again. If you're around this area, I'd highly recommend taking a walk thru this park.

Went to this park for the first time in a long time. Loved it. Great hikes that are fairly easy but not just flat, level trails. Great waterfall very close to the entrance to the forest. Lots of bridges over the creek. Also has a beautiful soccer field. Baseball diamonds are nice. Swings and a slide for kids. Definitely coming back.
Mike B — Google review
It was a lovely easy hike with a thick lush forest. Not too busy at all. Might be a bit tricky for having a baby in stroller because of steps. You can pass through few bridges and watch streams and waterfalls. Absolutely gorgeous.
Mina — Google review
Beautiful area with good washroom. Hike was easy with a couple small waterfalls. One bridge was out of order, so we had to backtrack a bit to an earlier bridge. To cross from red to yellow trail. Was a great hike for a windy bit of rain day.
S N — Google review
A local gem - trails are good for all ages and dogs are welcome. There are waterfalls and creeks sprinled liberally throughout so on a hot day it's a perfect place for a dip. Most trails are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. The only spot that is, is at the top of the parking lot with a brief stroll in to see the top of one of the waterfalls.
Christina C — Google review
What a nice hike. Well marked trails that meander along the river and then loop back around with lots of beautiful trees along the way. There is a bit of elevation and roots along the path but overall it was an easy hike for my wife and I with our 8 month old in a carrier.
Joshua M — Google review
Wonderful walk! There are several short and easy trails. Well marked We took the red one. 2 kids, 2 parents and 2 grandparents and it fit for all of us. There are a lot of spots to stop and enjoy the view.
Tal B — Google review
Very rewarding easy walk/hike through a beautiful moss and fern forest. The waterfalls are gorgeous and one of the paths follows the stream. Two of the bridges were under repair in March, but you can back track and take another bridge across.

Holland Creek Trail Head

Hiking Trails
Beautiful little hike, there is some elevation, but nothing that's over the top, multiple waterfalls along the trail too
Cole W — Google review
This was my first visit to Holland Creek trail which for how nice it was I am not sure why it took so long. After my hike I would recommend doing this in fall with the diverse colors of the falling maple leaves amongst he moss, ferns, cedar and fir trees. Also in late spring or early fall the creek will have higher flow rates and the waterfall more exciting. I parked at the Dogwood Drive trailhead which provides direct access to south loop of the creek. There is plenty of parking room, portapotty, map kiosk and garbage can. This trailhead and the south side of the creek running the full length until it crosses back across to the north 3km down is the more natural rugged section. There are also natural interpretive signage on this side. Cable Falls can also be seen nicely from about 2/3 of the way along this side. For safer access for families, mobility restricted people, strollers and wheel chairs I would suggest the Mackie Road Parking and trailhead. This North side of the loop up to the Methuene Street trailhead is a wide flat gravelled path. Along this section you can walk down to the creek and see the old Colliery dams. From the Methuene trailhead back to the Dogwood trailhead is ok but some portions back onto old properties and isn’t the most visually appealing. To finish the trail you can cross the river from the north side back over the bridge to the Dogwood Dr parking lot you started at or you can add the Lower Loop like I did. The lower loop isn’t anything special so if you want to skip it you won’t be missing anything. The entire Holland Creek system was about 6.5kms and took my 1.5hrs but I do hope a lot and move pretty quick. The only thing I would like to see on this trail are more garbage cans and also dog poop bags at the main trailhead kiosks for pet owners. A nice hike worth doing and impressive you can do a hike of this length right within the town limits.
Chris I — Google review
Be aware there is a difficult and a wheelchair ♿ accessible trail here. The difficult trail is 3.4Km and is rugged with many inclines and heavy roots and rocks throughout the path. Consult the map before setting out and stay on the path.
Adam H — Google review
Great hike along and up the river. Salmon only at the lower regions (waterfalls up higher) trail can take you to viewpoint above power lines and back down other side, or add distance to Heart Lake and back down or even further carry on to Stocking Lake and back down on old pipeline road with sections of original wood stave, wire wrapped 12” water line.
William H — Google review
Little Piece of Paradise in my own backyard..I am Blessed 😊
Brenda B — Google review
Lovely trail. There's a challenging portion and an accessible portion (that part has a different parking lot), but both parts of the loop are really nice.

good but long walk.

We visited in our sailboat in the middle of winter snow storms. The toilets and showers were clean, warm, and inviting. During the day the Welcome Centre was open where we could get off the boat, read a book, or use our computers. Due to COVID masks were required and physical distancing. The Welcome Centre is big enough that this was easy to achieve. We had a great visit and think you will too.
David G — Google review
Great transient docks. Very modern welcome centre building with clean washrooms, showers, including a handicap shower, and laundry. Historic ship related artifacts in a couple of buildings. Restored forestry ships in working condition.

Beautiful marina and Oyster Bay cafe was very good! Shrimp tacos and chaucuterie board were excellent/

Favourite marina. Great services. Close to 3 fun restaurants and a bakery voted by Readers Choice as best cinnamon buns !

We called in the morning to try to get 2 slips to get out of some wind. LMS was extremely helpful and was able to accommodate us for Two nights. Town and shopping is an uphill walk, but not bad. Town is cute and the grocery is great. There are restaurants, parks and local museums within walking distances. We will be back!
Dave R — Google review
It is a wonderful place to stay. We always make it our stop. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The harbor docks and washroom are very clean. The blue martins are a pleasure to see and hear. Great place to shop. And don't forget the bakery the walk is well worth it.

Ladysmith Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
"The little museum that could". Where so many small community museums struggle with meager funds and minimal imagination, the Ladysmith Museum excells by putting every effort to display what they have in the most fascinating way possible. Not satisfied with static displays, they are constantly providing local interest talks and slide shows. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit.
Daryl A — Google review
It's a cute small museum that shares the history of Ladysmith, its events, timeline and who the place was even named after. There's a staff there who greets everyone visiting and offers a mini-tour before leaving us to explore ourselves. When we visited there was a mini part gallery upstairs on the second floor too! There's also a small gift shop, and lots of interactive content amongst the displays and artifacts. We enjoyed a good 10-20 minutes of exploring and got some souvenirs. Ladysmith museum is definitely a place to drop by if you're visiting the Ladysmith area. It's free admission, plus there's free street parking nearby too.
E T — Google review

Porpoise Bay Provincial Campground

Campground
Nature & Parks
Parks
Porpoise Bay Provincial Campground is a true treasure nestled on the Sunshine Coast, perfect for those seeking a serene escape into nature. The spacious and well-maintained campsites offer an inviting atmosphere, with clean restrooms that are regularly serviced. Just steps away from the beach and surrounded by lush trees, this campground is ideal for relaxing picnics or family gatherings. You can enjoy communal fire pits to connect with fellow campers while savoring the beauty of your surroundings.
Porpoise Bay Provincial Park is a hidden gem on the Sunshine Coast. The campsites are spacious and well-maintained, with clean washrooms. I prefer my own campfire pot but the communal fire pits are a great way to meet other campers. Plus, you're just minutes from Sechelt if you need supplies or want to check out the farmers market. Highly recommend for a peaceful, nature-filled getaway.

Biked in and plenty of room on a Sunday afternoon. Food lockers and water right nearby and decent shower and washroom block too. Beach is lovely, large tidal range.
Rhian B — Google review
Absolutely loved it here. Wonderful place to paddle board. Calm waters. We saw purple star fish, tiny crabs running between the rocks at the beach, harbour seals and we think orcas due to the fins and the huge water spouts from breathing. The bathrooms were impressively clean, shiny even!!
Sandra N — Google review
Perfect spot campground very quiet, beachfront, huge trees, lot of blackberries , pet friendly trails and small river. Im from calgary so we spend here 8 days coz the travel is almost 16hrs oncluding ferry. Theres also a close 2 areas for crabbing. Just make sure to buy license. So many sea shells
Aureo H — Google review
We loved our stay at this campsite! It was a pretty popular campsite in the summer, most of the sites have been reserved from months ago, but we manage to get a first come first serve campsite. The washroom is clean, the shower is clean but not well lighted at night, the hot water is hot though! Plenty of playground areas for kids. They have fire pits but fire ban was in effect when we visited. You can access the beach from the provincial park. The day use area is next to the beach, so it can be a perfect spot for a gathering. They also have a designated camping area for bicycles! We haven't seen much of this bike camping spot anywhere else, so that's cool.
Kefin — Google review
Typical Provincial campgrounds with two notable differences: 1. No individual campfire pit at each site as there is a communal fire pit near the centre of the campground & 2. There’s a clean and beautiful beach within walking distance.
Ray J — Google review
great campground. lots to see. the only downside is no individual campfires
Chris J — Google review
This is one of the best campsites I have ever stayed in. The campsites are large and very nicely divided. It is very close to the beach and the main park. You can go to the beach and relax. Spend time at the provincial park and have a picnic there. But when you are camping here it is always like having a picnic. The restrooms are showers are nice and clean. They get cleaned daily and a schedule is posted to let you know the cleaning times. The nature here is nice and you can walk around the campsites and enjoy meeting people. Everybody seems nice and friendly and the kids roam around in bikes and on foot. Everything about this park is a great experience. We are definitely coming back again for a nice camping trip.

Awesome visitor centre! Izzy (I think?) is so fun to chat with. The Amazing Race people showed up while we were there and it was certainly interesting haha.

Had a great experience with Debra. We had been camping in the Sunshine Coast for 8 days and really needed a hotel or accommodation for 4 days for a break. Feeling overwhelmed searching on the internet, Debra made several phone calls and found us a place that fit the bill and at a discounted price! She went over and above to help us out. We will be back to find out more about the area and perhaps by some merchandise. Thanks again Debra for your help.

Hidden Grove

Hiking area
Forests
A very lovely area with so many fun trail options to take. Just overall beautiful greenery with a ton of Pacific Northwest plants to checkout and adore. Many friendly people and dogs too. I love that there was an accessible trail for those with needs for wheelchair access or stroller access, just making the outdoor experience for everyone more possible! Do keep in mind that there are no washrooms or garbage cans, so leaving no trace is very much encouraged ☺️ Will be looking forward to visiting again soon to explore the other trails.
Kat — Google review
Love this gem of an area. Beautiful and well marked trails all maintained by amazing volunteers. Perfect place to have your well behaved dog off leash. Even though it said ‘busier than usual’ when I went, I still only briefly saw 4 people and 2 dogs. Can’t wait to go back and explore some more.
Suzanne S — Google review
Hidden Grove is a great little network of short trails. You could easily walk all of them in an hour or so. Great place to take less physically active hikers who still want to see some of the beauty the Sunshine Coast has to offer!
Matthew C — Google review
My family and I enjoyed a couple of hours hiking all of the well marked and well maintained trails. The frequent maps posted around the park gave you numerous options with expected travel time for each leg of the hike. It wasn’t crowded on a sunny Sunday in August. Great place to stay out of the heat.
Pam S — Google review
One of the cutest trails I ever hiked! The trails are marked very well, and with a clear map. We only spent about an hour and managed to see many of the big trees and one viewpoint. The viewpoint itself was underwhelming as it's just more trees (I was expecting ocean view or something), but it was fun hiking around.
E — Google review
Great place for a short hike. Some trails are very flat and even wheel chair accessible. A few beautiful old growth trees too.
Robin F — Google review
Truly a unique hiking experience very close to the town of Sechelt with well laid out trails, clearly defined map, and highlights pointing out the many giants of the forest - several Douglas fir trees nearing 600 to over 800 years old.
Richard S — Google review
A nice place for a great variety of walks, all dog-friendly, in a dense old growth fir/hemlock/cedar forest. There are a couple of good viewpoints offering distant views of the Sechelt Inlet. An easy short drive from Sechelt town.

Island
Nature & Parks
Newcastle Island, also known as Saysutshun, is a must-visit destination in Nanaimo. The island offers stunning beaches, nature trails, and open fields where visitors can spot deer, raccoons, squirrels, and sea birds. It's an 8 km hike around the island with the option to grab a meal at the cozy cafe near the dock. The well-groomed trails are perfect for hiking and offer great views of wildlife and sea life.
We had a wonderful time visiting Saysutshun Island! The docks are spacious and can accommodate several boats, making it easy for boaters to stop in and explore. This island is a fantastic destination for families—whether you're planning a day picnic or camping for several days. There are kayak and paddleboard rentals available, which make for a fun and active way to explore the water. The information booth is packed with helpful details about the island and its history. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made our experience even better. There’s also a restaurant on-site offering delicious food options, including salmon burgers, fish and chips, and of course—ice cream! With stunning views, beautiful hiking trails, and plenty of places to swim or relax by the water, Saysutshun Island is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!
MyVisit M — Google review
Place was amazing, staff were very pleasant and it was a fun boat ride over about 8 mins each way! The views and nature was wonderful only went for a few days near the end of their service this season but it was 100% worth it only downside was some outhouse were not in best condition further out along hiking trails but thats completely understandable! I reccomend it for anyone who likes a little adventure be advised it is on foot only and camping gear is backpacked over.
Tiffany ( — Google review
First time out to this lovely Island. I should have gone sooner! Endless beautiful beaches, nature trails, and open fields. Lots of deer, racoons, squirrels, and sea birds everywhere. The rock formations on the beach are incredible! It's about an 8 km hike around, so pack a lunch, or grab something from the cozy little cafe at the campsite area right near the dock. There's trail maps along the way, and trails that go through the middle of the island, to make your hike shorter. The ferry ride to the island is about 10 minutes, from Maffeo Sutton Park, downtown Nanaimo. It's walk-on only. $15 per person. Well worth it! Looking forward to going over to this beautiful nature island again!
Laurie L — Google review
We love taking the ferry over and spending the day exploring. We brought friends over this time with our dogs and it is now a new place for them to frequent. There is lots of parking close to where the ferry leaves. We hiked along the trails which were well groomed and signed. There’s a couple of areas that are hard to locate such as the mine shaft etc. which could have better signage as you are going along. Lots of great views, wildlife and sea life to enjoy! Staff are all super friendly and there are lots of toilet facilities (outhouse) throughout the park. There is a small store/food area that sells shirts, ice cream etc. The fairy runs quite often in the summer, every half hour and takes up to 40 passengers. Later at night and during the off-season they sometimes run the smaller boat with only takes approximately 12. On low tide you can walk over to Protection Island and go for a bite to eat at the local pub.
Sheri L — Google review
Fantastic location to easily spend a whole day. Great views all around and so much wildlife. Come for a picknick, bike ride or anything you like by riding the ferry over (yes, you can bring your bike in board). Or even better, rent them from Jeff's Rentals on the island as he is an amazing person and the rates are very affordable. Paddle over to the dinghy dock pub for a bite to eat and a drink. You can even camp on this island. It's perfect.
Zee B — Google review
Place is amazing!!! a Nanaimo hidden gem didn't know this place existed coming out there, was suggested to me staying at the Vancouver island residences went and checked it out for a day hike learned there was camping and came back and stayed for 5 days, it was during the week and the island was pretty empty, was tranquil, there was deer everywhere and they were pretty fearless they'd walk right through the campsites (raccoons in daylight too!) walking through the forest you felt like an ant walking through the grass most of the trees are enormous , had the beach to myself, saw purple starfish, the staff were great, and the burgers from the concession were pretty good. Plan to come back!!
J. D — Google review
Great place to go for a hike or kayak maybe both!!! lots of wildlife and great views! Be sure to give yourself lots of time to explore the whole island and if you plan to camp you'll want to make sure you secure a spot as they fill up fast. Bring lots of water and snacks and don't share with the racoons no matter how cute they seem.
Nic B — Google review
Went to see the island to plan for next years camping and I love the place.. Good beach and shallow water.. Fun place for kids and family.. kayaking and biking is available.. spacious camp ground for groups.. did I mention.. only place you will se the white raccoon.. or is it albino raccoon??

***Great Staff and Solid Tubes*** Four of us traveled up from Victoria to float down the river. The shop contains a large selection of tubes and our overall experience was top notch. The trip down the river was a leisurely two hour journey & we had arranged shuttle service at the rental shop for our return trip.
Chris H — Google review
Our family had a wonderful experience floating down the river last weekend. The folks at Cowichan River Tubing had a large variety of tubes to choose from; we selected the close center tubes with a headrest for comfort. We enjoyed how friendly and welcoming the staff were as well as the shuttle back to our point of departure. I would recommend this establishment, perhaps with the caveat that you should make a reservation if planning a weekend outing.

Love tubing with ORKA. They have amazing, friendly service. Great prices and very family friendly. The pick up at the end of the tube ride is great to get everything back to town. Hassle free! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some great summer fun!

Today I went river tubing and had the greatest experience. Never before have I had such a personal experience with a tubing company. This family store run by two sons and their father is the best spot in Cowichan. They made the trip so easy and memorable !!! Thank you ORKA!

My wife and I came down over the long weekend. As a child I grew up in the area and just had to venture out in the river again. So we popped by here for some kayaks and paddle boards. I must say, unbelievable service, fast, and professional. Love how they have pick up and drop offs too. Such a great set up! Awesome work to the brothers!
Steven C — Google review
Had a fantastic day. The staff were very friendly and so accommodating. So nice to see a company so conscience of the environment with all the garbage cans in the water to avoid littering. Highly recommend ORKA for a great day sailing down the river.

I highly recommend O.R.K.A Adventures for Cowichan River Tubing! Last weekend my friends and I went river tubing and brought our own tubes with the intention of walking back to the vehicle when we were finished. However as we were just about to start our walk back, one of the owners offered us a free shuttle ride. It was such a kind , unexpected gesture and I just want to say THANKS! I have rented from O.R.K.A adventures in the past, and will continue as these guys really go above and beyond.

Amazing Company to go tubing with. Had a large group of 50+ people from my wedding. When we showed up all the tubes were sitting by the river and ready for us to enjoy the beautiful river. Could not ask for better service. You guys rock!

We had a fantastic time tubing. You sign a waiver, pick up your tube then launch right from the dock beside where you pay. Float for a couple hours in very pleasant water temps then get picked up by a shuttle bus. The river is gorgeous. Tube's were in good condition and liked having paddles and the ability to not have to sit in water. We went on a day that was showing 19c but it ended up being so nice still and we all really enjoyed ourselves.

So easy and tons of fun! Just be warned the beach at the end is quite small. It was so hot it was nice to have a bottomless tube & you can buy a floatie for your cooler too! River is nice and easy… took us about 3 hours. You can touch the bottom in most spots.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had no idea how easy it was to cruise the river! The Tube Shack makes it an absolute breeze! I always thought tubing would be too much planning or hassle, but they’ve got it completely figured out. From choosing the perfect tube for everyone in your crew (we doubled up in the swift tube and it was perfect for me and my 6-year-old) to supplying river-safe sunscreen and lifejackets at no extra cost, they’ve thought of everything. The staff were super friendly, super informative, and clearly love what they do. Free parking is just a short walk away, and everything runs so smoothly from start to finish. Pro tip: pack a wet bag for snacks and anything you want to keep dry, we had tons of space to float, snack, and soak up the sun. This was hands down a highlight of our Lake Cowichan trip. If you’re in the area, this is a must-do summer adventure!

The quintessential summer time memory making activity with your friends and family. Fun for all ages. Love that they supplied sunscreen, water station and potties before you hit the river. Online booking and reservations make it super easy to grab a spot. Love that there are potties at the end of the river, too. Not to miss the ice cream spot after the river at Cowabunga Cones!!!

August 27th, 2025 the river was a very slow ride with about seven or eight very mild rapids. Very enjoyable and relaxing. Single tubes and boat like tubes are available.
Mark G — Google review
We had a lovely day with great weather but one of the tubes in our party of 5 deflated half way down the river. We were lucky enough to have rented a cooler tube for him or he would have been swimming/walking a long way

It’s a great experience overall, you get to Cowichan lake and you go to the tube shack to rent everything you need, the girl from the front desk was very friendly she even spoke to us in Spanish to help us out, the lake was very beautiful ✨nature everywhere, at the end of the ride 2 very nice guys help us to carry our tubes, and a very friendly driver Drove everyone back to the main entrance

Small, quiet and interesting local history museum. Free but you can make a donation if you wish. I recommend you grab one of the information sheets that explains what's in each of the rooms. Very interesting section about safety in the logging industry. I also really liked the information about the local clubs and groups.

Very well maintained and portrait the history of wooden mills in the Cowichan area. No fees charged and run by donations.

It is a small and cozy museum. It has tools and equipment from almost 100 years ago and it features copies of photos and newspaper articles from the time frame. Very quite, well organized and neat.

Great pictures and content, mostly dealing with local and Vancouver Island history. Strong local connection, particularly for union and logging.

Stepping into this museum is like stepping back in time. The displays have been carefully put together by people who know and love the town. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area to learn about the early days of the Cowichan Lake area.

BC Ferries Departure Bay Terminal

Ferry service
Transportation
Ferries
The BC Ferries Departure Bay Terminal in central Nanaimo provides services to the Vancouver Mainland and Sunshine Coast, while the Gabriola Ferry Terminal in south Nanaimo serves Gabriola Island of the Gulf Islands. Travelers commonly use BC Ferries to reach Vancouver Island, and some may even have the chance to stop at Nanaimo during a cruise. Visitors have praised efficient check-in, friendly staff, and punctual sailings at the terminal.
I travelled from Vancouver to the Island Victoria on the Ferry with my hire. I have to say I’ve never seen a more professionally run operation. I was an Australian on holidays and I could not believe how seamless the whole journey was from buying the ticket to onboarding and then disembarking. Incredibly efficient and organised. The food on board was great and a variety and all reasonably priced. The other thing I wanted to mention is how clean everything was. And some many options for seating. I loved being able to walk around and see all the different aspects. The staff were also very friendly. For a government run organisation it’s amazing and everyone seems to love their job and why wouldn’t they. If the Australian government ran something, it would be dirty overpriced and they would either be running over smaller boats or running aground. Oh ya and it would be expensive to use. Good on you Canada, well done you should all be proud of the image you are showing to the world.
Wayne O — Google review
Our experience was less than hoped for especially after the trip over was so great. Sailed on the 6/13 2:45 ship. The Somali woman at the ticket kiosk was unpleasant and unintelligible. The loading was delayed and we disembarked an hour late. The food service workers seemed understaffed and overwhelmed, and the food quality suffered for it. We arrived so late that we couldn’t dock because other ships were already there so we had another delay of about 40 minutes before we could finally drive off. I think maybe the B team was working or maybe it was because it was Friday the 13th. 🤷🏼‍♂️😑

BC ferries had become hell on earth since half of the world is trying to squash into our beautiful BC. Ferries used to be a treat to take, exciting with a feeling of freedom as you passed through the Georgia Straight and truly discovered all the little gems of islands. Now the ferries are hell on earth, trapping people on the island over summer months and catering to the world wide problem of over tourism. Borders around the world need to close down and people need to focus on creating beauty in their own communities. A classless, economically driven group of people have created “economics” at the expense of local communities and our earth. The institution of “tourism” has been as destructive as any pipeline, logger or miner, creating division and exhaustion in every once beautiful city globally. The ferries are meant to transport citizens and be a part of living, work and life. Instead they cater to the overpopulation of our once breath taking province.
Foxy G — Google review
Last time I rode a ferry to Vancouver, the ferry came 40 minutes late. Aside from that, the waiting area is clean and the staff are very helpful and nice.
Rico M — Google review
Superb well organised service from Vancouver to Vancouver Island great journey in ferry ⛴️ large capacity to take cars and trucks great restaurant in ferry gift shop and staff is so great
Mayurdhvajsinh Z — Google review
Once you have your ticket, get ready for a fairly long walk if you are senior citizen or suffering from an injury you may want to seek a wheelchair or assistance to get you on the ferry. There are staircases and sloped ramps to navigate.
Sean D — Google review
BC Ferries as a whole is shockingly competent, arguably the only major transport system in the province that runs with any real efficiency. Sailings are (usually) on time, boarding is smooth, and the terminals don’t feel like a punishment. But among them, Departure Bay stands out. It’s better than Tsawwassen or Swartz Bay. And yes, they sell a proper croissant. Not just warmed-up pastry disappointment, but something you can eat without regret. It’s not flashy, but it works. Which, in BC, is saying a lot. Five stars, croissant included.
Le M — Google review
The company oversold tickets beyond their capacity. Despite arriving 26 minutes early with valid tickets, we still had to wait an additional two hours. Very disappointing and unprofessional.

Pipers Lagoon Park is an 8-hectare waterfront park in Nanaimo, offering scenic trails with stunning ocean lookout points and views of historic Shack Island and Neck Point Park. The park is a paradise for bird enthusiasts, with a variety of bird species to observe including seagulls, horned grebes, sandpipers, loons, kingfishers, and great blue herons.
Loved this stop. The trail is short and offers countless views of the water, little coves, and pretty flowers in bloom (mid may). Was windy but as the trail winds there were moments where we were blocked from the wind.

Great spot to stop by during a Nanaimo trip. It’s a short coastal trail right along the beach with beautiful, breezy views—peaceful and scenic for a picnic or an easy walk. The path runs between water on both sides: a calm lagoon on one side and open ocean on the other. There’s a brief rocky uphill section to cross to the opposite side of the park, but it’s manageable and adds a bit of variety. Overall, a relaxing, low‑effort outing with memorable views.

5/5 Stars Pipers Lagoon Park is a hidden gem! This peaceful retreat offers stunning views, scenic trails, and a beautiful beach. The lagoon's calm waters and surrounding greenery create a serene atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and nature walks. The park's trails are well-maintained and offer scenic views of the lagoon and surrounding hills. The beach is picturesque, with interesting rocks and tide pools to explore. It's an ideal spot for picnics, reading, or simply unwinding. What I loved most about Pipers Lagoon Park is its tranquility and natural beauty. It's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and connect with nature. Highly recommended!

Piper’s Lagoon: where you come for a “quick walk” and end up taking 87 sunset photos, having a deep life reflection, and accidentally following a seagull for 10 minutes. Trails? Peaceful. Views? Instagrammable. Vibes? Immaculate. Just watch out for the tide or you’ll be stranded like a scenic shipwreck. 10/10 would get lost in thought here again.

Ideal spot to catch some absolutely spectacular sunsets, and the occasional moonrise! I’m currently using a mobility scooter for a broken ankle and this whole area is very accessible with the flat lightly gravelled path that goes out along the lagoon to the little island area. Plenty of seating along the way on benches or on giant driftwood logs by the water. This will be a regular destination for me for catching evening sunsets without driving too far.

Always a favorite area of Nanaimo, and a popular choice for many. Dogs are invited along too. My Chi, Bob, enjoys all the new scents the ocean brings in, along with finding new critters. Great photo spot and an awesome tree fort!

Neck Point Park is a 14-hectare oceanfront park in Nanaimo, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Strait of Georgia and nearby islands. The park features a vast hiking trail system with some of the best ocean views in the area. Nearby attractions include Pipers Lagoon, known for its spectacular viewpoints and picturesque shorelines. This rocky beach is conveniently located just a short drive from downtown Nanaimo and offers clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling during warm weather.
Neck Point Park is gorgeous for walks and there are numerous trails to take. It takes you along the ocean and has many views of the inlets and rock formations. It rained today but I managed to get some shots of flowers, beach and the trees. You can walk at your own pace and there are view points throughout where you can admire what nature is all about. The trails are well laid and there are hills that some may require assistance getting up and down. Take it all in and enjoy one of exceptional parks in peaceable tranquility:)

There are many parks along the coastline, but Neck Point Park truly stands out and is definitely worth a visit. The trails wind along the waterfront, offering a mix of forest paths and open viewpoints—some with railings, but many that lead you right down to the rocky shoreline. It’s a great spot to explore at your own pace and get close to nature. On a clear day, the ocean views are absolutely stunning. There’s also a lovely picnic area conveniently located right next to the parking lot, making it perfect for a relaxing lunch with a view.

A great place to walk around! The views were incredible and the terrain was nice and easy. We saw lots of bunnies, a beaver and even a sea lion in the water. We walked around sunset and the views of the water and mountains were gorgeous! We had no issues with parking however the lot was somewhat on the smaller size.

Great place for. Quick and easy hike with breathtaking view. The park have several view point and all have stunning water view. There’s also sitting area all over the park. It is accessible via public transit. There is very limited parking spot so come early if you want to get a good place to park. Very windy when exposed close to the water. Perfect to do early morning or late evening for sunset view. 2 hours is enough to hike the area. There is restroom at the parking lot area, there’s no place to buy snack so bring your own. Highly recommend this place for a day trip when visiting Nanaimo, BC Canada.

Neck Point Park is one of the absolute gems of Nanaimo. The trails are easy to walk and take you along rugged coastline, with incredible ocean views at every turn. It’s a fantastic spot to watch for wildlife – I’ve seen sea lions playing just offshore, and on lucky days you might even spot whales passing by. The sunsets here are stunning, with the sky lighting up over the water in ways that make it hard to leave. Whether you’re out for a peaceful stroll, a bit of photography, or just want a quiet place to sit and take in the natural beauty, this park never disappoints. A must-visit in Nanaimo!

Super cute little city park and lake! A very upbeat, family friendly vibe. I did the 5.5/6km hike around the lake first and was done within an hour. Beginner level, as I saw parents and kids. There is a steep area to get to/from the bluffs but so worth the view! I went paddling after and it was calm enough to do yoga on my board, but the wind picked up and brought me to the underwater forest area, where I passed right by a bald eagle! 🦅 The water is warm enough for swimming, but it made me itchy after. You can tell this is a simulated/not naturally occurring beach/lake, given the sandbox feel, and old trees/stumps sticking out of the water even in deeper areas.
Lucy — Google review
In the changing room, on the door, there is a warning for swimmers that this lake has the parasite which cause the ‘swimmer’s itch’. And it takes 2-3 days to get better then there could be rashes. Just fyi if you’re planing to swim. It kinda disappointed us as we planned to swim at first. Other than that it’s a nice place, clean water

One of my favorite places! Has a 6k loop trail around the lake that is a fam fav ! Beautiful scenery, lush green trees/plants! It's pretty easy trail with a rewarding view of Mt Benson at the end. Bit of incline there but my 6 yr does it with pretty minimal whining haha so I'd say easy enough. Worth it either way. The lake is beautiful with clear and warm water , perfect for kayaking and has a decent sized swimming area . 😀 definitely a must in Nanaimo! 👍👌

What an ABSOLUTELY beautiful place!! Easy hike and when the tide is low you can hop to all the little islands. Amazing views and you can swim too. Wish we spent the day. Easy hike, amazing views at the end. We got there at low tide so we got to walk the sea floor and the views are even better than the top view point. It was a bit smokey from wildfires but can imagine the views on a clear day would phenomenal.

A beautiful trek that takes one through dense forest, steep rocks, and scenic ocean views! The trail is not toddler friendly, but can be easily done by a 5 years old. The entire trail takes about an hour by leisurely walk. Plan your lunch though because the closest restaurant is about 20 min away.

This is one of our favorite hikes on the Sunshine Coast. You are rewarded with great views at the end with varied terrain along the way. Appropriate for hikers of various skill levels. Some areas have rough terrain (exposed roots, hills that don't have groomed steps) so those with balance issues may find parts of this challenging.

We had no idea how pretty this place would be! It looked like a perfect setting for a pirate's movie. More of a walk than a hike, it starts on a boardwalk that takes you into marshes, which seem to have been created by a beaver dam. We were lucky enough to see 2 beavers that day. Then you find yourself in a lovely forest surrounded by rocky coves. We just loved every minute of our peaceful walk there!

I found this place absolutely fascinating! The trail to the viewpoint was relatively easy to walk, making it accessible for most visitors. Along the way, there’s a beautiful brown lake with stunning views, although I couldn’t find a spot to sit by its edge. The highlight, though, is at the end of the trail—the view of the rushing water is simply breathtaking. The sheer power and speed of the currents feel like a symphony of strength and freedom. Make sure to bring binoculars to fully appreciate the details and beauty of the area!

Gorgeous trail to the narrows. It’s mostly flat with a few declines and inclines. Takes about an hour each way, starting from the parking. Well established, nicely carved, seasoned trail which is slightly busy even on a rainy day. Trail can be uneven and root-y for about 50% of the time so people with strollers may have a hard time. Peaceful views of Brown Lake on the way to the narrows you can’t miss! Do not forget to look up the Tide Timetable to catch the tide at the best time. Gorgeous hike for a rainy day, but recommend carrying an umbrella for extra cover during the hike since the forest canopy doesn’t cover you from the rains much. It rained mid-heavily on the way back and we were soaked.
Tess T — Google review
Beautiful walk, absolutely stunning at the rapids. 100% NOT stroller/wagon friendly and there are no signs saying that it’s not stroller friendly. Our baby couldn’t even ride in the stroller it was to bumpy. If your bringing younger kids this walk could take you an hour and a half to two hours and you will most likely have to carry your kids along the way. So plan your timing well. We brought our stroller not knowing it was so rough most of the way. Our kids couldn’t even ride in the stroller so we had to carry them and drag the stroller over the rough areas. There was also another family that brought their stroller and had just as much struggle with it as us. It’s about 1.5-2km walk from where you have to park to get to the trail head. Still highly recommend doing and seeing the rapids! There’s two places to go watch the rapids, the look out which is farther away from then and then you can go right next to them and watch closer up. Highly recommend going closer up to watch them. The trail to get closer is very bumpy, hilly and rough with roots but work the trek.

A great way to spend an afternoonm. A short 45 minute hike in will lead you to the perfect backdrop for a post card. There is a amazing little bakery at the start of the trail which is highly recommended. The trail is very well kept and suitable for all ages.

After an approximate 1 hour moderate hike to the entrance of the inlet, we were rewarded with spectacular views of the tides and the whirlpools. Furthermore we got an awesome front seat where we watched the kayakers ride the tide. Also, check when the tides are at their peaks as that is when it is best time to view them.
EC — Google review
A really terrific hike through the woods leading to the Skookumchuck rapids. Fine for fit seniors, patient children, and leashed dogs. Most of the hike is flat, until you get closer to the rapids, then some narrow uphill / downhill areas with stones and roots. Be sure to wear proper hiking or walking shoes. The view at Skookumchuck Narrows is beautiful and well worth the 4km hike into the brush. Brings lots of water to stay hydrated, especially on hot days. If you are visiting the Sunshine Coast, this is a must see attraction!

This easy hike is worth it if you are in the area. We explored both the view points - North and Roland. Timed it well to watch the night waves but nothing. Guess its hit or miss. The sealife in Roland point was pretty cool, beautiful purple starfish, sea urchins and cool barnacles. The whirlpool was just okay. Not worth the hype at all, especially driving 30 minutes out of the way to do this.

Surrounded by second-growth Douglas fir trees, the reasonably large campground provides a peaceful setting for outdoor enthusiasts.
Gorgeous Bay, so many campsites, pictures make them look more private than they actually are. I had never been able to book one in summer so went in May! Friendly park staff, clean washrooms with hot showers, lots of kid friendly things to do, so many picnic tables at the beach, swimming in summer.

This is the perfect campsite for families. It's close to the beach and they have bathrooms with running hot water and showers. Firewood is sold on site and delivered to your campsite for $10 a tub. The beach does not have a lifeguard.
Quentonitron — Google review
This is THE iconic family campground that one makes memories that last a lifetime. We've been coming to Gordon Bay Provincial Park for over 30 years with our kids, our friends and ourselves, and the good memories just keep stacking up! By far, the best campsite is the group campsite as it not only has hot and cold running water at the sinks in the shelter, but on rainy days when fires are allowed you have under-cover wood stoves for heat and electrical outlets for charging, kettles, griddles etc... It's the closest campsite to the beach. And you have all of your friends in one place... There is a downside: most of the area is tent camping with only a couple spots to park RVs or trailers. We've made so many memories here with our kids growing up together, and lifelong friends with the parents who brought their kids. We've windsurfed, waterskied, snorkeled, swung off the rope swings further along and across the lake, and generally just relaxed and enjoyed the marginal cell service over the years. Not to say we haven't had our bad experiences: vandalism to our cars, buses burning in the parking lot and kids having epileptic fits requiring ambulances... But this place fosters great memories of life with one's family and friends, and life will have laughter and tears combined. Gordon Bay filled our albums with those memories and I hope it will for many, many more years. June 2024: Just returned from another great camping trip. Some things have changed which need a comment or two: The iconic log boom that ran across the bay of the beach is now gone--it broke apart during the winter storms and blew up onto the beach. While we were there, loggers finally arrived to buck up and remove the logs, and supposedly there's a modern floating boom on its way. In the interim I saw two boaters come into the swimming area causing consternation on the part of campers/swimmers/kids/parents/staff... This needs to be addressed immediately before someone gets hurt!! This is just a small example of the underlying management of this facility. Most of the staff onsite are friendly and helpful, but there are many examples of how the management of the park is more concerned with making money than making memories for families. Bathroom facilities that are half finished, there's the cheapest toilet paper ever made, the bathrooms have broken windows, the propane heaters never warm up the building and the showers that don't work properly. Garbage overflowed in containers, and the beaches weren't cleaned overnight. We still had a great time camping. But it's getting harder to book a campsite and it's costing more money every year to camp. One would expect the experience to get better under those terms, but it actually feels like the campground is slowly rotting away without any of the money being used for improvements.

Probably the cleanest campsite I have visited in BC. Very warm showers and the bathroom was clean each day. Some other reviews mentioned the sites being "dark" but the trees were gorgeous and I would not have changed a thing! Beautiful site, can't wait to visit again. Also check out the towns nearby - very unique spots to pick up homemade goods and coffee

Nice camp ground. Tall trees so don't expect sun at your site. Lots of space between sites. Good beach with an extreme drop off. The lake is beautiful.

This place is a little slice of paradise. Ample parking, flushing toilets. 10/10! There is a beautiful little spot with some tiny islands within paddle boarding distance, the water is so clear. A sacred place, leave no trace!

A wonderful way to see Pender Harbour from the water! Family was visiting from back east and we took them out today. Christian did a super job of welcoming us, making us very comfortable with first class service and giving us an interesting summary of the history of this beautiful region. This is a must do when you’re in the area! Will go out again with visitors. Thank you so much.

A Must-Do Experience in Pender Harbour! After moving to Garden Bay four years ago, my wife and I have explored nearly every trail in the area—so when family came to visit, we wanted to show them something new. That's when we discovered Slo Cat Tours, and we’re so glad we did! We had a great chat with Christian, who helped us book a private 1.5-hour charter for the seven of us. The price was very reasonable, and the experience was worth every penny. Our guide, Sheri, was absolutely fantastic—warm, personable, and full of fascinating stories about the region’s history and marine life. Seeing Pender Harbour from the water gave us a whole new appreciation for the area we call home. Whether you're a visitor or a local looking for a unique outing, I highly recommend a tour with Slo Cat. It's the perfect way to experience the beauty of the harbour from a fresh perspective.
Thomas V — Google review
We had a wonderful experience on the tour. The scenery was beautiful, and our captain, Sherri, was fantastic. She provided us with a wealth of information and captivating stories, making the entire trip engaging. The boat was comfortable and equipped with binoculars, a map, and blankets. The tour lasted almost two hours. Along with the stunning views and the stories behind them, I gained some valuable insights about life.
Rachel R — Google review
If you visit the Sunshine Coast make sure you take a trip north to Madeira Park and do this harbour tour. Christian was excellent and very knowledgeable about the area. Very relaxing cruise. And Christian's first mate Tonka was excellent company.

Christian was friendly and accommodating. The ride was smooth and comfortable and good for kids. This trip is recommended and has good cost value.

This is a great tour! The captain was really friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable and the boat was lovely. I love the process of calling/texting to book instead of using an online booking system - you get a reply right away and you have the opportunity to get options for your tour straight from the staff. We also were able to bring our dog with us in our private tour which was a huge plus in my books! All in all, lovely way to spend some time on the Sunshine Coast.
Jodi D — Google review
An amazing tour by a great guy. Had a chance to see all around the bays on a beautiful day. Definitely recommended.
James V — Google review
We just spent a lovely 90 minute boat cruise exploring Pender Harbour with captain Sherri. We highly recommend this tour! The seats are comfortable. They provide binoculars and blankets for the guests. Our captain's knowledge of the areas and points of interest was extensive. What a relaxing well worth it tour.

A "must stop " along the sunshine coast… 10 minutes from the main highway, a five minute hike and you're at the water… You can then hike to the left or right of the inlet beach area, left will bring you a flat, wraparound trail, right will bring you up top for the scenic viewpoint… Make sure you can handle stairs! It's short and sweet, you'll be at the top in under 15 minutes : perfect flat area up top for a picnic, not recommended for young children…, Steep sections, and dangerous areas. Highly recommend going when nobody is there with your partner and a blanket 😊
Jeff F — Google review
This hike exceeded expectations. Distance from parking lot to water’s edge is short and once you get to the water, you are treated to beautiful vistas of serene coves, open waters and rocky cliffs. A fair amount of the hike is quite exposed so although you may stay cool with the breeze blowing in from the water, you will get a lot of sun, so wear sunscreen on a sunny day!
Darren C — Google review
What spectacular views! The trails are up and down with uneven footing but the wildflowers and other flora are beautiful. A couple miles of trails. There is a restroom near the parking area.
Nevenka A — Google review
Great trail! Very easy to follow. About 15mins from Parking lot to lighthouse (one way), you basically go parallel to the water the whole way. Some areas are rocky, so wear non-slip shoes if you can or do a crab walk (use your hands if you need to); but I found the trail generally easy on the knees if you take your time and go slow - the trail is also wide enough for you to choose a different path (like around the rocks) that may be more suitable to one’s physical abilities. Passed the lighthouse, you can go for about another 3-4 minutes and you’ll see another great view point: the open ocean, boats and an island. I heard someone on the trail mentioning that is the Arbutus (but I’m not sure).
Mina A — Google review
Beautiful walk / short hike by the water. Took about 2 hours including lots of time for photos and a 15-min chill at the end of the trail where there's a little lighthouse. A little windy there. Little ups and downs make this an interesting walk. It was cloudy and still looked beautiful. It must look gorgeous on a sunny day. Thank you to all who pushed to make this trail happen and to preserve this for generations to come.
Emma D — Google review
Great short hike to amazing views. A little rocky and rooty at times, but no hard at all. You might even see some whales.
Paul M — Google review
Sweeping views within 5 mintues into the forested area from the parking lot. One of most scenic hikes I've ever been on with minimal effort. Lots of access points from the trail to get closer to the water. Please be respectful of the blocked off areas to preserve sensitive ecosystem.
Taz C — Google review
Turn left to Merrill Road for the small parking lot entrance to the starting point (see my photos). I like this because only few minutes hike and you will see the water view. Good for kids too but they might need assistance on some of the elevated sections. Washroom out house at the starting point. You don’t even have to go all the way to the small lighthouse. There are so many view points.

Nature & Parks
Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, located 30 minutes north of Nanaimo, is a picturesque parkland with tall trees and a serene beachfront area. The park offers a 2-kilometer long sandy shoreline that becomes wide and shallow when the tide goes out. It's an ideal place for walking through wooded forests and bird watching during herring spawning season.
Beautiful beach! We got lucky and happened to get to the beach during low tide where we were able to walk pretty far out and discovered so many things on the seabed including oysters and crabs! great place to go for all ages! NOTE: saw a sign that dogs aren’t allowed out on the seabed
Fiona L — Google review
Fascinating beach where you wade out for great distances due to the very slight incline of the sand bar. The park itself has pleasant picnic areas, decent parking, and some inretesting old tree boles.
Graham T — Google review
Late season camping was so beautiful! This is a difficult Provincial Park to get a site in during high season. We were able to get a large site close to the main beach trail. It was quiet and the natural beauty was stunning.
Cecile M — Google review
We camped at the campground for a night second week of September, it was fully occupied. This place was very well maintained, very organized and well labeled rows of campsites, very clean bathrooms, easy access to beach and nice walking trail along the waterfront. They came by to sell firewood in the evening. Sunset was beautiful and peaceful at the beach. Would definitely recommend this campground.
D ( — Google review
Huge cedar trees everywhere...very thick tree cover makes it feel like camping in an ancient forest. Sites are super clean, bathrooms and showers are clean and in good working order. Then, walk down the end of your camping row and find yourself out on the beach! It is immediately beside the campground...you can hear the ocean from many of the sites and smell the ocean air. Great combination of camping and beach watching. The minor inconveniences are that there are no hookups and the sun does not often penetrate the tree cover so solar isn't the best option. Bring your own water or make a funnel like I did because water taps do not have a hose connection option. Wood is super expensive. You get 4-5 pieces of wood for $10. Finally...take your own toilet paper to the bathroom. One ply? Come on...thought we were done with that foolishness. Still one of the best campgrounds I've ever been to!
Red H — Google review
Beautiful park and amazing views. Very family friendly, bathrooms are pretty clean and the showers are nice and hot. There is a few items you can buy when you check in at the front of the park. There’s also a general store before you meter the park if you need groceries or camping items. The water is lovely and the trails are nice and clean. Amazingly quiet at night.

Rathtrevor Provincial Park on Vancouver Island offers a truly enchanting experience, especially at low tide. The expansive sandy beach, revealed by the receding waters, creates a perfect playground for exploration. The tide pools teeming with marine life, such as starfish, crabs, and anemones, offer a fascinating glimpse into the underwater world. Walking along the shoreline, the views are breathtaking, with distant mountains framing the horizon and the fresh sea breeze adding to the serene ambiance. The park's natural beauty is complemented by its well-maintained trails and picnic areas, making it an ideal spot for families, nature enthusiasts, and photographers alike. The unique coastal ecosystem provides excellent opportunities for bird watching, as many species flock to the shore during low tide. One of the highlights is the sense of tranquility and connection to nature that Rathtrevor Provincial Park offers. The experience of walking on the soft sand, listening to the gentle lapping of the waves, and discovering the hidden treasures left by the tide is nothing short of magical. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat or an adventure in nature, this park at low tide is a must-visit destination on Vancouver Island.

Wish we'd had more time to enjoy this park. We visited in the evening and walked along the walking trail which is very well maintained. There are also several spots to go out to the water's edge as well. It was very calm on the water so would be a great place to paddleboard or kayak.

We were in Parksville for the weekend to attend the Trooper concert and also go to the Sandcastle competition. Considering how many people were in the city and how popular these events are. We were really impressed with the infrastructure. We took the public transit from Resort Drive to the park for the concert. After the concert we were able to get on the first bus back again to Resort Drive. That was so well organized. It just ran like clockwork! It’s great that you have food trucks in the community park… that’s something we’re sadly missing in Esquimalt.

Beautiful beach! I love how you can wade in the water for a long time, doesn't get deep for awhile. Perfect for kids or those who like to gradually get wet, like me 😜 The water is warm and clean! There's places to have a picnic, kids to play, and just lay out in the sun. Fun in the sun for all!
Lynn777 — Google review
Amazing beach! It's absolutely huge with plenty of room for laying on the beach, grass, or by the playground. The playground is massive so if you have kids they will for sure have a great time. And the beach is dog friendly so bring your pooch with you! Going to the sand sculpting competition was a blast! Great beach made even better by the weather!

What a beautiful park! This park also leads down to the beautiful beach. These few pics were taken from my 1st visit in the summer of 2019 for their annual Sand Sculptures competition. The theme was Myths & Legends. I’m sorry I didn’t take pictures of the whole park, but it is very clean, has stuff for the children, tables, and a building with washrooms.

Fantastic community hub of activities. Always busy but well deserving as the best beach for kids and a really long sand bar, spray park, clean bathrooms, lots of room to spread out, food trucks with snacks and ice cream daily, lots fo dogs, decent free parking (if you are willing to walk). Always something going on. Beautiful sunsets. Shallow warm water makes it good for children.and seniors.

Love parksville for the whole family. Good facilities and a large park for kids. U can bring a kite to fly in the green space or just hang at the beach. Food trucks are there along with live entertainment. We were lucky enough to see the sand sculptures and go for a quick swim!

Paradise Mini Golf and Fun Park in Parksville is a family-friendly attraction featuring two elaborately themed miniature-golf courses and bumper boats for a splashing good time. The park offers a fun-filled experience for the whole family, making it an ideal destination for those looking to enjoy outdoor recreation in addition to the city's natural beauties such as waterfalls and parks. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions like Coombs Market, Cathedral Grove, Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park, and more.
The staff and mini-golf are great. Staff were all smiling and welcoming. Answered all questions and helped as needed. We were 2 adults and a 8 year old child. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed playing mini golf together. We did both courses and even came back the next day. The golf course was clean and well maintained. There was a maintenance staff on site painting, cleaning the pools and bathrooms. The pure bakery on site was wonderful too! And they open at 8 am which is great for my early riser!!

We visited the mini golf and bumper boats with our granddaughters aged 11 and 8. The girls loved the bumper boats which have a water cannon on them. There are also 2, 18 hole mini golf courses which are fun for all ages. This is a very popular attraction and can be quite busy.

Good place and lots of fun. It even has an arcade with lots of good games. DO NOT do the stuffed animal claw machine though because the claw is so week it couldn't pick up an ant >:( Also if you get a room at the sea edge motel you get free mini golf so definetly worth it

Last month, my friends and I randomly stopped by Paradise Golf and Fun Park during our trip to Vancouver Island, and it ended up being such a fun highlight of our trip! The place has such a lively, welcoming vibe, and it’s perfect whether you’re with friends, family, or even just looking for something lighthearted to do. We played mini golf and had an absolute blast — the courses were well-designed, clean, and offered just the right mix of challenge and fun. The staff were super friendly and made the whole experience even better. What I really liked was how the park felt relaxed but still very well maintained, so we could just enjoy ourselves without worrying about anything. Definitely recommend this spot if you’re in the area — sometimes the most spontaneous stops turn out to be the most memorable! ⛳
Bhav — Google review
A nice spot to park the RV and get access to mini putting with our stay. We played both courses and preferred the course to the right. I can imagine the many families and people who had great times passing through this magical spot. Our 6 year old and inner children all had a good time.
Samantha K — Google review
I had such a great time at Paradise Fun Park! The mini golf courses are beautifully maintained and super fun-especially with all the charming castle and fairytale-style buildings around. You can tell a lot of care went into the design of the whole place. There are two 18-hole courses to choose from, and both are just the right mix of challenge and whimsy. We went on a sunny day, and it honestly felt like a little escape with all the colourful lights, water features, and well-kept gardens. Great for families, dates, or just a laid-back outing. Staff were friendly and everything was really clean, which I appreciated. It does get busy in the summer, so I recommend going earlier in the day if you want to beat the crowds. But even then, it's such a fun atmosphere you don't really mind waiting a bit. Overall, it's a must-do if you're in Parksville- whether you're local or just visiting. I'll definitely be back!
Mya W — Google review
I was astonished to see the state of this beloved mini golf park, especially during August long weekend. Like many others, I have frequented this place for the fun mini golf adventure almost every summer. The water features were frightening. The water was far from it's usual blue, but now replaced with dark, green sludge in essentially all areas. Even the clock tower characters have changed and the pendulum barely swings. For the sake of the many Islanders and tourists that come to visit, I hope this establishment can be turned around for the better.
Braden M — Google review
I am rating the mini golf 3 stars and nothing lower or higher because of one major problem. The overall experience was great, the mini golf was well maintained and overall fun. I didn't have any issues with the park itself but when me and my family were halfway through the mini golf disaster struck. This group of tweens played mini golf, no big deal, but they were speed running through it and they eventually reached me and my family. They were always just standing there while we were doing a hole and the pressure of them standing there made me and my family rush and barely get to finish a hole before moving onto the next. At the end me and my family were really grumpy as we didn't get to enjoy the last half of mini golf.

Such a beautiful hike ! We did the lower falls with my 5 year old and 9 year, they both enjoyed the walk and it wasn’t too much for them . Beautiful views and crystal clear water. Definitely worth adding to your list of places to check out if you’re in the area.

This is a beautiful place with a really easy walking distance to the falls. When you park your car in the parking lot, it takes less than 5 minutes walk to the bridge then you can enjoy a big fall there. The best place take your elderly to have a short walk. It's just a short drive from Parksville.

Soooooo worth the trip here. Just stunning beautiful views all over the park. The bridge views are breathtaking to say the least. Took a couple families here and from old to young we all had a great time. Some of the hills were a bit steep but doable for the little ones. We took a dip and a tin of pics and had an amazing day looking at the waterfalls and taking in this great country and province.

Very easy walk. Too short to be called a hike. Park is well kept with signs notifying you not to take off trail routes due to damage. There’s outhouses and actual restrooms at the entrance of the park. Ample parking too! Water was quite cold, some people were brave enough to swim. The water is quite clean too! And there’s an area we’re people had stacked rocks, so beautiful we stacked ours too!

A great place for someone who loves nature! Kid-friendly with lots of places to walk for discovery. Go around, and you can get access to water. The water is so clean because of the fast current. Plan your trip in advance; you need a few hours to enjoy!

I have been to this park many times over many years, both to camp and sometimes just to wander. It is a beautiful place any time of the year. The campsites are large and well spaced. Ours had been cleaned and raked and was close to water and washrooms (which were very clean). The playground was also near by. The River itself was still quite and very cold. The water was crystal clear and so beautiful- the colour was amazing.

Little Qualicum Cheeseworks, established in 2001 by Clarke and Nancy Gourlay, is a Swiss-style artisan cheese producer located on Vancouver Island. Situated on the 88-acre Morningstar Farm in the Comox Valley, visitors can experience farm life and interact with the mixed herd of dairy cows, as well as other animals like sheep and goats. The cheesemakers craft handmade cheeses using milk from the farm's cows.
This place is SO cute!! I loved getting to explore the farm and see the animals up close. Lots of cute goats, cows, bunnies, and sheep. Definitely recommend stopping by the store for a whole milk latte. If I was staying in town longer I definitely would’ve gotten milk from the dispenser.
Danielle R — Google review
What an adorable little farm! Went with my mom on a spring weekend and it’s very well taken care of, and you get to be in very close proximity with the animals which is great. There are some educational aspects too. Tried their milk and cheese sampler, both delicious. All the animals were 1000/10 cute and we had a great experience there.
Katherine T — Google review
I'm a local customer who has visited the farm since it first opened, I appreciate the growth and changes the farm has made and love where it is at now. There are not many farms that allow you to wander around for as long as you'd like while interacting with the animals, let alone without a cost! We love visiting the animals(especially the calves) and then going to find lots of local food treasures in the farm store, and of course finishing with delicious coffee. Also, we enjoy being able to go get milk 'after hours', conveniently avoiding the crowds... since this is the only milk we ever want now, we are hooked! As suggested to us, the ground beef is fantastic, it makes perfect smash burgers, and is so flavourful! The cheese curds are squeaky and addictive, a favourite for us, along with the brie of course!! Thankful for all their hard farm work, and to be able to frequently visit and shop at this fun and educational farm!
Lauren L — Google review
Lovely little farm with no entry fee. Our kids enjoyed seeing the cows, calves and rabbits so much they had us come back a second time (alas on a closed Monday!). The Brie is excellent and they sell crackers and paring knives if you haven't brought your own. A nice variety of merchandise as well. Highly recommended for the cheese/dairy if local and for a visit if from out of town.

I live in Calgary, and I have visited this farm twice in the past two years. The milk here is the best I’ve ever had—so fresh, it tastes like melted ice cream. You can also interact with cows, lambs, and rabbits. It’s a must-visit place when traveling to Nanaimo.

The deli inside the grocery store has a great selection—we picked up some delicious treats. The veggie market offered plenty of fresh fruits and local produce. We also tried the doughnuts, which were fresh and tasty. Overall, it’s a great place to shop, grab a bite, and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

I was definitely skeptical when someone recommended this place. I thought for sure there would be ceramic goats or something on the roof... But nope, I was wrong. There definitely WAS a goat on the roof, just hanging out. I was certainly surprised. It was super busy but I did manage to snap a photo and take a quick video. Definitely a place worth to check out. Lots of unique items inside the market place itself with a dining room as well for some good food. Be sure to checkout the produce market up the road as well as I was able to get some fresh apples.

Such a charming and cheerful place with a great vibe. The goats on the roof are so cute and make the whole experience unforgettable. Inside, there’s a wonderful selection of local treats, souvenirs, and delicious food — I especially loved the bakery! It’s the perfect little stop for both fun and relaxation. Definitely a must-visit spot on Vancouver Island!

What a charming and unique stop! There's truly something for everyone here - shops, food, gifts, and of course, the famous goats on the roof! I loved wondering through the market and soaking up the rustic charm. Picked up some delicious coffee and a few treats to bring back home to Ontario. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area!

This is a MUST visit stop for everyone to see! The goats on the roof are hilarious of course but the food options in the market are insanely good. This is where you want to stock up your RV! Especially us foodies! PS the donut place closes at 5pm though so we missed getting those but am told they are fantastic as well.

If you are a foodie beware... you will spend money here! 😉 An amazing selection of many nationality's flavors. Really nice baking and treats. Dozens of cheeses and spices galore. We stopped for a donut and were very satisfied with the selection and the flovors. Fresh fruit and veggies are top shelf and competitively priced

Nature & Parks
Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park is a must-visit destination on Vancouver Island, offering a picturesque setting with peaks, waterfalls, and lush woods. The park is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, providing opportunities for hiking, swimming, and fishing. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the old-growth Douglas Fir rainforest and marvel at the cascading waterfalls that give the park its name.
Beautiful views of the (not so little) falls. There is a tremendous amount of water flow in the winter which makes for an exciting hike.

A fairly easy hike for those without any physical limitations, but those with some might find parts difficult or impossible to navigate, especially when muddy. The waterfalls are beautiful. Some idiots carved their names into the arbutus trees, which is a shame - but apart from that, the greenery is expectedly beautiful. A highly recommended stop.

Beautiful park! Upper waterfall trail is more accessible (mostly flat), while lower waterfalls trails is mostly stairs. Parking is big, but was full, I guess there were more spots somewhere along the road. Wish they had water refill station.

We stayed at the campground for 4 days with our pup and it was perfect! The swim spots weren't huge but it never felt too crowded especially if you went in the quiet hours. The washrooms were each individual and had showers but no plugins. The walk around the falls was very beautiful and peaceful. All the staff and fellow campers were very nice and respectful. Definitely one of our campgrounds we're going to have to come back to!

We dry camped here for one night on the lower loop. Site was clean with plenty of space for our RV. There are showers available on the upper loop. The trails to the waterfalls are fairly easy and wide. Well worth a stop to see the falls!

Stunning state park, there are 6 kilometres of trails definitely wear comfy shoes. The stunning lookout views of the upper and lower falls are just spectacular. Make sure to head to nearby Cameron Lake, which is a ten-minute drive away on Highway 4. The clear waters are also great for freshwater scuba diving, sailing and swimming

Had a great day here with the family 👪. Parking wasn't an issue as there were plenty of spots. We hiked all over looking at the beautiful views of the water along the way. We started off at the upper falls and made our way around to the lower falls. The temperature seemed just right, plenty of sun and just a few clouds to keep us warm enough to make the entire trek. Make sure to take water and perhaps a snack or lunch for when you are done for the day. I'm definitely coming back in the warmer months to see this place in full swing.

Beautiful falls. Great way to spend time and good workout too. There is a minimal hike kind of with a little trail and there are two levels of water . It’s one of the must visit places in Nanaimo . The water is so clear and the sound of water is so energetic 💜
