Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site in Alberta, Canada, is a UNESCO site that preserves 6,000 years of Plains Buffalo history. The Blackfoot people used the cliffs near Fort Macleod to hunt buffalo by herding them up the hill and causing some to go over the cliff's edge. The interpretive center offers well-presented displays and films about this cultural heritage.
Such an amazing place to visit! The site is beautiful with stunning scenic views — but be prepared for extremely windy conditions at the top. Make sure to check the hours, as they close early, so plan your visit accordingly. One tip for after your visit: when exiting, avoid turning right as the road is very rough, almost off-road with lots of rocks — not suitable for a sedan. Instead, take the left turn to reach the highway for a safer and quicker drive.

Great place to visit. Took about an hour to do the whole heritage site. Unique heritage site with tons of info on the buffalo jump. One of my favorite parts is the building itself. Built into the side of the cliff, it's architecturaly very fascinating. Great views from the cliff of the prairies and the Old Man River.

The World Heritage Site: Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump After a long week of work, we finally had the chance to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, just a 2-hour drive from Calgary. No booking required! Simply pay the entrance fee and enjoy the fascinating exhibits. It’s a place rich in history, offering insight into how Indigenous people survived and thrived in this cold and challenging environment. You’ll learn about traditional hunting methods, culture, and resilience. A must visit, especially for families with kids! It’s a meaningful way to teach children about the remarkable ways people adapted and lived in harmony with nature.

Woow. Magnificent place. I heard about it long time ago but had no chance to visit till last weekend and it was worth for such long drive. Knowing the history of the place and native culture goes back to 6000 years. Mind blowing for me. Also, layer by layer display of the soil which contains buffalo remains in last 6000 years, stunning. I have more respect to the native people than before after visiting and learning one of their sacred place.

🦬 Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump – A Powerful Connection to the Past—We’ve visited Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump a few times over the years, and each time it gets better. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable—they really bring the history to life. The site is well-maintained, and the washrooms were clean, which is always appreciated. This year, we noticed some new features added since our last visit, which made the experience feel fresh. They offer family packages and discounted rates for veterans and their families, which is a thoughtful touch. No need to book in advance—we walked in on a weekend and had no issues, even with tour buses coming through. 🐾 Heads-up for pet owners: Dogs aren’t allowed inside the interpretive centre, but there’s a shaded waiting area outside where you can sit with your pup. They even provide water bowls, which was a kind gesture. ✅ Tip: If you’re heading south from Pincher Creek or exploring the Waterton area, this is a must-stop. It’s not just a museum—it’s a place to reflect, learn, and connect with Indigenous history in a meaningful way.
RAB P — Google review
Super friendly staff and a clean, well maintained building and trails. I did the trails to the kill site, and met a deer along the way. Educational tour. I had no idea the excavation of the site discovered the site had been used for about 6000-7000 years! Very cool.
Toni — Google review
This was an incredible experience. The indigenous people of this land had systems and processes in place for thousands of years that have been adapted and still used today. They were resourceful, environmentally aware, deeply spiritual and then white man came along. I was so moved by the story and impressed by the visitor centre and how they honoured the stories. Great building, great staff and well worth the visit.
Matthew M — Google review
This is a very informative historical site. The curators have done an excellent job. It is very well put together. After you check-in, You start the visit by taking elevator to the 7 floor, then go outside to the viewing point. You reenter the building and make your way down through the 6 floors of displays. Not a difficult walk. This is worth the visit. Spent maybe 1.5 hours here.

Specialty Museums
The Fort Museum, established in 1957, is a significant site dedicated to preserving the history of the NWMP and First Nations People. It proudly hosts the world-famous NWMP Musical Ride since 1973. The museum offers informative displays showcasing the history of the NWMP/RCMP and their way of life in the rugged western frontier. Visitors can also enjoy interactive experiences such as climbing towers, petting animals, and experiencing live music during the musical ride.
An underrated place you must visit. You can pay to groom your horse and learn about them. Then you are taken for a ride on your horse. Our family of 8 went. Some of us have never been so close to horses before but it was well worth the experience in petting them to actually seeing them as harmless and quite friendly. The Fort is a must. As there is a lot of Blackfoot history in the museum along with many artifacts from others as well. ALL the workers from inside to the trainers were really friendly and made it all wonderful. They work very hard and it shows. Our family are really happy to have met them and have this experience.

We stopped by the Fort Museum Trading Post Gift Shop and were so impressed! There’s such a great mix of clothing, shoes, unique gifts, and souvenirs. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the renovations made it much easier for my mother-in-law to get around. So glad they’re open year-round now — we’ll definitely be back and already got our membership! And they have goats to pet!
Margaret P — Google review
This place is awesome. Such a great history lesson. Exhibits are very informative and lots of neat things to see. Staff are amazing here and very helpful and friendly. My lil one really liked climbing the towers, petting the goats and horses and really enjoyed the music that went with the musical ride. Would definitely take him there again.

Thus was such a buzz for me having grown up watching movies and shows with these iconic Forts. It is a very cool display and re-creation/restoration of the original Fort.

CPF Alberta & NWT hosted a day of educational programming here at the Fort Museum. The Fort Museum provided an unforgettable day for our group, immersing participants in the fascinating history of the North West Mounted Police and the region. The staff were friendly, organized, and willing to share their knowledge with the help of a translator, making the experience both educational and fun. Our group loved the authentic displays and interactive elements, and the atmosphere made it easy to imagine life in the fort’s early days. The museum team’s hospitality and attention to detail helped make our program a success, and we highly recommend this venue for group visits, school programs, and cultural events.
Andreas G — Google review
We had a great day getting out of the rain on our camping trip exploring the Fort. Rich history of the Mounted police and of the areas history! Service was good, would have enjoyed seeing the gots out, but the facilities were excellent! This is a great family activity.
Heather J — Google review
Good museum and musical ride experience at The Fort Museum. I visited last week, and had a great time. Lots of well curated historical displays. I highly recommend paying the extra charge for the musical ride. I got there at 9AM and stayed until the end of the musical ride at about 10:30AM.
John B — Google review
A huge disappointment! Drove from Calgary on August long weekend. Visited website before leaving and NO WHERE did it say the RCMP musical ride was cancelled. Had to repurchase admission tickets because the ticket app is not accepted on site. There was zero onsite site enhancements or a single interaction to bring the place to life. Very boring. Will never come back. Heritage Park in Calgary is a much superior choice.

Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is a tranquil oasis that seamlessly blends Japanese and Canadian landscaping styles, featuring water elements, woodlands, and open meadows. Situated in Henderson Lake Park on Mayor Magrath Drive, this garden was established in 1967 to commemorate Canada's centennial year. It stands as a tribute to the resilience of Japanese Canadians who faced adversity during World War II when they were unjustly placed in internment camps far from their homes.
This is such a beautiful and peaceful place. It has such a calm feel as you walk around the path. The staff is so friendly. We were there when they had the music in the building. It was fantastic. You can either take your shoes off or put on shoe covers to go inside. We had the festival package so we went to Cleo's Cafe to get our free cookie and free drink. This is definitely a place you need to visit.
Donna S — Google review
A calm and beautiful place to spend time. Although the park is relatively small, it offers several picturesque spots that are perfect for taking photos. The exhibits sharing the history of Japanese individuals who lost their lives in World War II were both informative and moving. The display of the soldiers’ war attire added a meaningful perspective. The large bell was a highlight — ringing it was a unique and memorable experience. Overall, the park was very clean and thoughtfully maintained. A lovely place to visit and reflect.
GANESH R — Google review
Beautiful and quiet garden, worth at least one visit. It was smaller than I was expecting, but they use the space well. Staff is friendly.
Tommy N — Google review
Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is peaceful and beautifully maintained. The garden itself is a little smaller than expected and a bit pricey, but the experience makes up for it. We enjoyed Japanese calligraphy, homemade tea, and learning about the culture. The staff were so kind and patient, and you can even rent a traditional dress for $30. A lovely cultural experience in Lethbridge!
Patel K — Google review
Can't say enough great things about this park. It's so well maintained, the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The audio tour was well done and even though the link posted didn’t work for me, it was easy enough to navigate to the page to find the audio tour. The history of the park was so interesting to learn and it was fascinating to find out that the park has incorporated local trees and rocks to create the garden. I'm inspired to start my own small garden one day! It was educational to find out that the ponds at the garden had had carp in them one year until the local birds of prey ate them all. So if you find yourself also wondering if anyone thought of stocking the ponds with fish, well now we all know why there are currently no fish in them! I brought my mom when the pavillon was playing Japanese cat videos in honor of international cat day and somehow we found ourselves standing in our bare feet mesmerized by the cat videos for over 15 min. It was a magical experience. I can't wait to come back.
Christine M — Google review
Very nice just a lot smaller than I thought it was . It was a little Bit pricey for the amount of time we spent in here but I was a nice walk around. Lots of nice places to sit but be careful there was a lot of hornets . Would definitely go again when they have there holiday lights up!
Kassidy R — Google review
Beautiful landscaping and lots of history. Managed to time it right to arrive just before the tour started, so got all the history of the place as well! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered questions with ease.

Peaceful but was expecting more to be honest enjoyed it either way. One downside though there were so many wasps near the hedge wall. The girlfriend enjoyed here too so did Mikan (from Neko house)

Historical place museum
Step back in time and immerse yourself in the history of the 19th-century frontier at Fort Whoop-Up. This cultural museum, located in Indian Battle Park, commemorates the city's heritage as a whiskey-trading center with its replica of the original fort. Costumed guides offer horse-drawn carriage tours, interpretive programs, and historic reenactments to bring this era to life.
I had a wonderful experience here. The wagon ride was the highlight of my trip. It is well worth the price of admission. The fort itself is quite authentic and there are many rooms to walk through that are filled with historic items. Lots of walking trails in the nearby park.
John B — Google review
Really cool place with lots to see! Got to have a wagon ride pulled by Duke and John. Beautiful horses. The people of Lethbridge are all so kind. Thank you for the great experience.really enjoyed visiting the pony and donkeys.
Henry Y — Google review
We had a truly memorable visit to Fort Whoop-Up—a place rich in history. The museum was both educational and engaging, offering captivating exhibits that transport you back to frontier times. There’s so much to discover, and the stories of the region are shared with care and depth. One of the highlights was the wagon ride, which added a delightful, old-timey touch to the experience. The chance to pet the small horses and donkey made it feel even more special—especially for animal lovers and families with curious kids. Those little personal interactions bring the whole place to life. All in all, Fort Whoop-Up offers a lovely mix of heritage, hands-on fun, and a welcoming atmosphere. A definite must-see for anyone in the area.
Iovan G — Google review
What a great experience and look back at history. Our wagon ride with 2 Clydesdale horses was the highlight with Cathy our tour guide. Great to go with kids, activities like writing with a quill pen, candle dipping and fresh made Bannock. A big park surrounds the fort so you could easily pack a lunch, there is also a playground nearby.
Bobi E — Google review
Enjoyed very much, learned a lot from the staff working there and answered all my questions so patiently as I'm from the US and knew nothing of the Fort's and First People's history in Lethbridge.
Pamela Z — Google review
Wonderful way to spend an afternoon or evening with family in Lethbridge. We went on a Thursday and there was a trader tales program going on. It’s educational and informative and interactive experience for children. There was a campfire and sharing of stories over bannock and jam. Also the ice cream is delicious. They give liberal amounts of it! 🍦
Vanessa L — Google review
Was a bit hokey to me. We didn't pay to go into the fort primarily because the fort was nothing more than a replica of the original fort AND not even at the original site. The employees were both friendly and informative. I think the wagon ride would have been worthwhile but we didn't take the time.
Matt T — Google review
Booked this tour as part if a one night staycation getaway. Was more than what we expected and well worth the admission. Learned a lot! Megan and Troy (Trevor?) Were great guides.

The Galt Museum & Archives is housed in a former hospital dating back to 1910 and offers interactive exhibits on local history. The museum hosts various programs for different age groups and regularly holds free community days and fundraising events, including the popular Beer Tasting in September. With an extensive collection of artifacts, archival documents, and photographs, it provides insight into the human history of Lethbridge and southwestern Alberta.
A great experience to explore the history—the building feels newer, and the view is amazing and very clean.
Destination M — Google review
Visited the Galt Museum for the first time on the weekend. My first thoughts of the museum is nice and clear and very bright. Lots to take in if you like to read but if you're more of hands on learner like myself you may be a little disappointed as a few interactive displays weren't functional at all. Check out my photos and videos to see what I am talking about. The washrooms in this museum were very clean and bright. Staff were nice and friendly also there is a gift shop and just like most gift shops they have some pricey items. Over all for the price to visit it was worth it. But I hope management see's the review and fix the broken things.
Channel S — Google review
I visited this place first time for Diwali Celebration program. I must say I’m totally impressed and enjoyed a lot. The place was very clean and spacious. The people are very polite and helpful. We really enjoyed the performance. The location of this museum is amazing, ample of parking available for visitors. I will definitely visit again to explore the historic side of the city. I like the small store at entrance. Definitely great place to visit with family/friends. I’m looking forward for more such events to cherish the cultural diversity.
Shweta S — Google review
Visited the museum last week (on a Thursday) with my two school age children. We go to a lot of museums, so enjoy the adventure. There are two options for kids to do for scavenger hunts, and that's fantastic. We always enjoy that option so that the kids take more time to actually look at the displays. The prize box after made them very happy. The facility is nice and clean, and staff is friendly. (Although the cashier was quite pushy for me to purchase a seasons pass, despite me saying no thank you. Not in a mean way, just in a way that was like a commission salesperson. 😁) The displayes are very full of information, and the gift shop is well stocked. There are even a few interactive displays that were fun to experience. I gave the museum only 3 stars simply for the price. For the size of the display area, it was pretty expensive.
J R — Google review
Small but well put together museum. Very modern building, with an archive on the bottom floor. Friendly museum staff. The admission fee is very reasonable. Many tables to escape the heat with a wonderful view.
John B — Google review
Smaller but interesting museum. Lots of interactive displays, history, education, good for kids and adults. I loved the indigidous history displays. Some larger then. Life displays as well as room recreations. View is really good in the lobby. Lots of trails surrounding hills, pack water!
John H — Google review
Great building, great location, great view from the building, however, from my personal research on Lethbridge there is so much information, history, and culture that has been missed at this museum, the display lacks quality curation and just seems like a jumbled mess of artifacts, I’ve seen much better organized collections in much smaller towns. I felt like the gift shop area was larger in size than most of the exhibit areas, the old hospital that holds the museum is severely under represented, and the exhibits present are very biased, which take up most of the small exhibit space as the entire building seems to serve different applications than that of a museum/archive.
Ray B — Google review
Just paid $12 to spend 20 minutes looking at exhibits on not being racist. They had a couple of actual museum-type things to look at but mostly just wall after wall of signs about values and racism and hate. Almost complete waste of time.

It was an incredibly great and pleasant location to unwind, offering ample opportunities for strolling, engaging kids with various activities, comfortable seating areas, and refreshing shade provided by beautiful trees. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, as it exuded a wonderful positive ambiance.
Destination M — Google review
Clean, peaceful, dog friendly, a step from golf course with no fence. Kids have fun hunting for golf balls on the rocks. Great place for walks, running, and sunset watching.
JULIA S — Google review
A huge fish suddenly flipped his tailfin and splashed as I glided the kayak into a seldom used area on the west side of the lake. It was the size of my entire leg. I later learned it was a northern pike. Flocks of little blue dragon flies clustered together during mating season. Park benches and lots of shade in grassy areas. Walking bridges, walking paths, and quite contemplative places. Beautiful Park. Can do without the very dirty lake water.

Best place to take sunrise and sunset photos in Lethbridge, nice paths go around the lake takes average of about 30 min to walk , lots of wildlife .

Was here with friends and it was great experience, it's a place to fish, picnic, enjoy nature, have fun, do kayaking/boat ride (come with your own, like bring your own device kinda, lol), (you are not allowed to swin though, still don't know why), and a large playground for kids as well. Walked round the lake park couple of times... It's absolutely 💯 👌

Fun & Games
Pure Casino Lethbridge is a vibrant destination that offers an exciting blend of gaming and dining experiences. Spanning over 44,000 square feet, with 13,000 dedicated to gaming alone, it features more than 400 slot machines and video lottery terminals for endless entertainment. If you prefer the thrill of table games, you'll find nine live-action options along with two poker tables available for both cash games and tournaments. The casino also boasts a grill and bar where guests can enjoy delicious meals.
It was not the server's fault that I didn't get served for over an hour sitting in the lounge watching live music. The casino should have booked TWO people to cover that area. It was FULL. The special drink was a Cesar for $6. It was a great night & I would have ordered more than one drink and food had the service been there. I took a couple photos before I was told "NO CAMERAS allowed". I really liked the band, "Bruce Pederson & Ranahan" - they played all the good country-rock tunes from the past & quite a few new ones. People danced to the music on the tiny dance floor in front of the band stage. I even put $20 in a slot machine with lots of lights & came out $10 ahead. 😀

Our meal in the restaurant was terrible. We both had the roast turkey, the Sunday special. The turkey was completely dried out. I requested additional gravy hoping it would help; however, on hindsight we should have not accepted this awful meal as it was beyond saving. On the bright side, we had a friendly, cheerful waitress!

Trailers/Car Camping Parking - they were so great for allowing trailers/car campers (no tents) park overnights (2-3) on their parking lot! I was down there for a quick pass-through and needed to park overnight - just registered at the casino entrance. Super friendly folks too! They also have decent hours restaurant with decent prices!

Stayed in the parking last night with our coach and was told we could stay 2-3 nights like the last 2 years. Played the slots and had a meal and beers and enjoyed ourselves. Service and food was awesome as usual. Tonight we walked in and security made it clear that we were allowed only one night and we used it. So fine we left and will take our business elsewhere and won't come back. But what's truly frustrating is being told 2 totally different things one night apart and they have 5 rv's in the parking lot and you can tell they have been there longer than 3 days.

Went to the Lethbridge casino with friends! The casino was very clean. Not to loud and not overly dark...just right for playing the slots or talking with friends. The resturant was also very clean! But we ate there horrible Veal cutlets were poor quality, mash pototes were instant. Horrible food don't eat here! But our server was nice polite and stopped in few times to refill my beverage. So if in Lethbridge and you feel the need to gamble...by all means stop in play but don't eat. Good luck

We are regular customers at the casino attending the casino 2 to 3 times a week playing the slots and eating at the bar restaurant often usually with good service and food. Today we ate lunch at the bar and it was not that busy ordered food and drinks. Food arrived but had no cutlery. stopped our waitress asked for cutlery she left went into the back to dump dirty dishes came back and went on the computer not getting our cutlery my husband went to ask for it and she was very snippy and said she was busy while our food was getting cold. Wasked for the so called manager and he was very nasty also saying they were short staffed not our fault. The waitress would not even bring our bill totally ignored us had another person bring it. We are very upset being treated this way not even an apology. First time for this usually very nice competent waitresses.

Often stop here for supper. Great specials daily. Service is always top notch. And if u like liver this is the place. Ordered the liver, bacon, onions. Two piece and was stuffed. It comes with mashed potatoes but this time ordered the fries. Bad idea next time mashed potatoes. The fries were terrible and this happened before. Maybe frying them and re frying. Not sure but won’t order them again. Also we ordered a hot hamburger sandwich. That was fresh ground beef on Texas bread. Tasty gravey on top. Disappointed in their choice of vegetables. 🥦 cauliflower. With all the corn and peas and carrots grown around southern Alberta maybe that might be a better offering. Back to liver. Cooked just right tender and thin slices. Bacon and onions were cooked to perfection. Waiter was ok. Kinda forgot about us. But they were busy also. Always clean and the tables cleaned off fast for people waiting. Check out the pictures of the liver meal. Their prices are very reasonable and not drive in quality. Will be back that’s for sure! We stopped in for early supper Oct 18 and ordered the two piece liver, bacon, onions with a side of onion rings. Again liver was cooked to perfection and onion rings some of the best I have eaten. We ordered there pirogies and sausage which were also very good. Hats off to Trinity who was top notch. Friendly and checked back often to make sure we had everything. Thanks Trinity u were very good waitress. Happy friendly and fast. We will be back

Always treated nicely by staff. Wish they had a better selection of table games. Real Craps would be nice. The tables games are hard to get a seat at, Including the digital ones.

Located at the intersection of Crowsnest Highway and 43rd St. SW, Coulee Taproom offers a wide selection of local beers and delicious food. While their own on-site brewed beers were not available during the visit, they feature draught offerings from various breweries across Alberta. Visitors can opt for a beer flight to sample multiple brews at once, with the iconic High Level Bridge carved into the side. The outdoor patio, although small, provides a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying drinks and meals.
Had a great time here, staff super friendly and the facilities are very nice. Food was delicious, I got a flight to try 4 beers, I only liked 1 but that's the joy of getting flights you get to try lots of different beers and you don't have a big glass of it. Vibe was super cool. I definitely recommend stopping by for a beer and eating some food! My burger was so good I forgot to take a picture and destroyed that burger. 😂 🍔

Very nice brewery with outside patio and decor. Selection of beer was great and tasty. We ordered appetizer (3 little pigs) and was pleasantly surprised by its size and pizza was huge for even 2 people to share. Service was a bit slower and sometimes confused (too many servers for one table). Otherwise everything was great and its worth to visit. Would definitely go back again.

So the less loved things are at the start of this list as their aren't many! -The outdoor patio is too small. I say that because it was full and we couldn't sit out there. I imagine there are more tables non pandemic times which is why no stars were docked! -As someone who no longer drinks alcoholic beverages, I would appreciate more non alcoholic options. Maybe a craft non alcoholic beer of some sort... could potentially be made in house... let me know if it happens, I will come try it!! I enjoyed the Grizzly Paw soda but would have enjoyed a non-alcoholic beer with my happy hour wings! Thats it for the things I hope to see change. On to the postives: -Menu is innovative, diverse and has ample options for all appetites. -Alberta beef, that is always a plus for me. -Service was fantastic! -Food was hot, accurate to the order and tasted great. Sauces seem to be made in house? I didn't ask about that, however they were good!! -Music volume was great and set a really comfortable atmosphere that encouraged socializing with the other patrons at my table. It also made it easy to hear the server! -Being able to see into the brewery while dining made for an interesting and more unique dining experience. -Restaraunt is kid friendly complete with limited kids menu! -Locally owned Tldr great food, great service, good atmosphere, locally owned, supports other local vendors. In the words of John Catucci "You Gotta Eat Here!!"

One of the trendiest craft breweries in all of Alberta! From the open window brew rooms, the rustic vibe, large screen tv’s - all the way to the merch section and menu, we were smitten. Being here felt like being back home in Ontario, where there are 3 times as many breweries. I cannot recommend Coulee Tap Room enough.
Rebecca S — Google review
Great place just off Hwy 3, and worth a visit! So cool that they are reviving Canadian brew, but the menu is classic American. It would be neat if they incorporated more Canadian style food as well. Bonus: they have a free phone charging station!
Heather A — Google review
The new fried chicken open face sandwich was excellent and a generous portion! I appreciate any Caesar salad with REAL bacon bits. My only comment is that an open face sandwich like this that requires a knife and fork to eat, shouldn’t been served on a sheet of paper over a tin dish. The paper didn’t take long to tear through and get soggy from the sauce and I wonder how much paper I ingested. Servers were friendly and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Nice to eat somewhere that isn’t a chain when traveling and staying in hotels. Will return when I am back in town.
Liz T — Google review
The food was absolutely disgusting. The house made "beer cheese sauce" consisted of either Cheese Whiz or Velveeta that began hardening in front of our eyes. The pretzel bites were what seemed to be under-cooked Pillsbury dough with some garlic salt; which were also served with the elegant "beer cheese sauce." I do appreciate the atmosphere that the owners are going for, however the menu needs a complete overhaul and the quality of preparation must change. I did enjoy the beer... So, for now folks, stick with the drink menu.

I placed an order for some kids meals and an adult meal as we were staying at one of the hotels close by. I looked at the menus they had online and ordered 2 kids fish n chips, kids chicken fingers and a entree salad. When I arrived to pick up the order, they proceeded to charge me for 2 adult fish n chips instead of the kids version. They explained that there was no kids fish n chips(even though it was on the kids menu). I said I would take one of the adult sized fish n chips, I didn't need 2 full sized orders. I paid for everything, went to my hotel room, only to find that the fish n chips was a KIDS sized portion, even though I paid full price. I was shocked. After a long day of travelling, I didn't want to return to argue with the 2 waitresses. The whole meal was not good. The salad I ordered was brown. And their supposed homemade fries.....not homemade as you can see in the picture. These 2 meals, are exactly the same portion , but I paid $19 for one and $9 for the other......which actually on their website says the kids meals are $7. Not impressed, don't recommend this place at all.

The Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation is a rescue sanctuary dedicated to rehabilitating and releasing raptors, owls, eagles, and other birds of prey back into the wild. The facility is well-maintained with dedicated volunteers who host multiple shows daily, including owl and eagle demonstrations. Visitors have the unique opportunity to interact closely with the birds, holding them in their hands and even petting them.
By far the best sanctuary ive been to. Young friendly staff who are very passionate about these birds. Very clean , except if your feeding the ducks:)
Kelly A — Google review
Booked the private owl experience and we had the absolute best time! The staff are knowledgeable, all of the experiences we had that were included in the general admission were also awesome, and we learned so much in both the public and private talks we had. Huge space to explore, so many birds on public display (~60) but also loads of rehab and release happening. Loved supporting such a great foundation and am excited to continuing visiting and donating.
Sara S — Google review
Knowledgeable young staff. They know thier birds and enjoy giving kids the opportunity to take part whenever possible. We fed the ducks, gave a shower to Grace, the bald eagle, and held burrowing and great horned owls. My niece had been before and I am lucky she wanted to go again!
Paige — Google review
What a great place to visit for the day! We had a great time. Some notable stuff: - There's a duck feeding "petting zoo" area (they can enthusiastically nibble at your fingers while feeding which may startle some little humans like it did mine, maybe just toss!) - You can hold a burrowing owl or great horned owl, or both! - There are two shows including a bald eagle flying demonstration and learning about different kinds of owls - Plenty of places to walk and see other kinds of birds of prey in their enclosures and some tethered to resting spots nearby walking paths - Lots of picnic spots - Kids can collect feathers they find (except for eagle feathers) as a bonus if you have a budding naturalist - If you ask to see a saw whet owl, they may bring you out a little nugget of cuteness (see picture) and your day will be made Highly recommended 👍
R B — Google review
Awesome way to support a great organization. And you get to get up close to raptors, and you get to hold owls! Feeding the ducks can get quite chaotic, so be aware if you have littles. Highly, highly recommend.

The staff were friendly and knew what they were talking about. They were helpful and cared for the little ones who came with us. They truly care for the bird and are funded by the donations and the admission prices. Everything is decently priced and well worth it!

An amazing place that we are so lucky to have at home in Alberta! It's so rare you get to see raptors and owls up close like this. It was incredible! Very educational as well as entertaining. I can't recommend it enough!

Little Bow Provincial Park

Nature & Parks
Little Bow Provincial Park is a great destination for families looking to enjoy water activities and relax on the beach. Situated near Vulcan, it offers a breezy reservoir for sailing and windsurfing, as well as opportunities for kayaking and canoeing. The campground features shaded paths and a small beach that doesn't feel crowded. While some sites lack shade, there are showers available. Additionally, visitors can spot the rare peregrine falcon nesting along the shoreline.
Amazing family campground. Flushing toilets and showers, concession stand, firewood and Ice available for purchase. Lots of drinking water taps around. Beach is very busy on a weekend but didn’t bother us much as we kayaked. Some campsites are not very private but if you pick the right site and plan ahead it’s great. Lots of mature trees. Will definitely be coming back. We were on site A10 and was perfect, only one neighbouring site on left. Lots of dogs and lots of kids! Playground is fun for the kids too.
Eimear O — Google review
The place gives you the opportunity to disconnect (no data signal) and the hills covers the camping site and the lake. The lake has crawfish you can catch and cook, kids enjoyed it. Tables are available, you can go boating, there's washroom with water.
Nanik C — Google review
An oasis amid a pretty barren part of Alberta, little bow offers plenty of amenities at a mostly reasonable price point. Middle parts of the loops do not afford much privacy and this campground can be a real zoo on the weekend so choose your site carefully. The staff ensure the bathrooms and showers are camping clean which is better then most private places I've been to. My only complaint is that the firewood price is bonkers for what you get. This is a great family campground with quiet time at 11pm it filters the rowdy folks to Travers Resivoir where they don't enforce any rules. You can expect to have a great time here if you are looking for a place to listen to the birds, fish or just go for a nice walk. No cellular connectivity unless you drive to the boat launch or the top of the hill which can be a great way to disconnect. The fishing here is excellent as well.
Mathew — Google review
Dear mom & dad, Another beautiful spot to camp as a family. Some sites don’t have a lot of shade so don’t forget to bring your own. If you want privacy, you will not find much here. There are showers and each bathroom house has two stalls (2 for women and 2 for men). The beach is small but doesn’t feel crowded. Fishing at 10-11pm is the best time!! There’s a playground, it’s okay. My kids wanted more slides and stuff though. There are swings right in front of the beach, next to a concession shop. The bathroom by the beach is not that clean, so go potty before heading to the beach. We loved it though!
Frida C — Google review
Nice little campground set in a valley between the hills. Grounds were clean and well maintained. The beach and lake were great. There is a small shop at the beach selling a few snacks, food and beach toys but it's only open for a few hours on weekends. Toilets were typical for a campground, but not bad at all. I'd visit here again.
Kerrie G — Google review
This is a well maintained campground, with a beautiful lake. There is no cellphone service however you can easily walk/drive uphill and get the signal back. There are picnic tables and firepits on the sites. When choosing your campsite look for one close to the taps, it will make your live easier. Beach area gets full early in the morning, so be an early bird and get a good spot. Dump Station is outside of the campground, on your right after leave the Little Bow. Be careful to not create a confusion between Little Bow Reservoir (20 minutes driving) and Little Bow. They both use the same dump station but the Reservoir is smaller and there is no electricity.
Igésia R — Google review
The Park itself is kept very clean, the washrooms are clean as are the outhouses. Lots to do for the entire family. There's a beach with swimming although sometimes the water is a little low but still gives the little ones a place to play. The lake is great for all those boating enthusiasts as well as the fisherman. Most sites are well treed and spacious. Of course there's a ice cream store. The only problem I have is their dump station, Both flushes don't work, so you basically have just let it drain. There's no garbage so people through their garbage on the ground and on top of that you are required to pay 6.00 dumping fee 🙄
Betty T — Google review
Lovely little hidding spot in the middle of no where. We went there for the day to take a look at the campground, the beach is a small but nice one. There is a boat launch area and the campground looked nice but to open for my liking, I think I will try camping at least one time there for that review tho. The one reason I am giving this place a 3 star is because by the beach area I did not see any flush toilet bathrooms and the bathrooms that are there are just Gross, I was told there is blush toilet bathrooms in the campground but we were by the beach so no luck with that. Second reason I am giving it a 3 star is because I haven't had the experience of camping there yet so that might chance my mind when I am able to go camping there.

A place to stop with your family! Chock full of nostalgic items, including candy and collectibles. Plenty of games/activities for the kids in the car. The silver "fill your own bags" from the silver bins was a favorite of my family. Be sure to look up!
John K — Google review
Great nostalgic location that is a must-visit as a destination or just driving through. Everywhere I turned, I saw a candy that reminded me of my parents or my friends from elementary days. There is a candy or chocolate to tickle every fancy. I'm always a glutton for Aussie licorice. There are interesting finds like white chocolate covered gummy bears and candy coated sunflower seeds. There are various fans/bottles of pop with unique flavors. After grabbing our treats, we went down the street for dinner then doubled back for dessert ... ice cream! The staff remembered us and welcomed us with open arms. A single scoop is $6. Upgrade to a waffle cone for $1 or a gourmet waffle cone (with chocolate or sprinkles) for $2. Even the ice cream tokens are vibrant and colorful! Don't forget to look up ... they have a vintage stash of collectibles including a massive collection of M&M memorabilia in the rafters. There's even a section of sugar free candy for diabetics. Pop in for a minute, and get lost in time!

A childhood dream. Passing through Nanton last Sunday June 23 en route to Calgary, I heard about a famous local candy shop so I had to check it out. The selection was breathtaking. One major detail you cannot overlook is how things are organized. Despite how wall-to-wall densely packed the place is (with every flavour of everything) it's organized in such a way that makes intuitive sense. Despite being my first time visiting, I very quickly got a sense of where things were. Furthermore, the staff were so lovely and kind; it felt like I was chatting with some old neighbours that I'd known for years. Smiles all around. They even sell ice cream! I didn't know this until the young lady at the register asked me if I'd like some. To which I responded, "tempting, but I'm gonna have to resist!" using up all the self-control I had left. Want to feel like a kid in a candy store all over again? Check out The Candy Store in Nanton.
Leng L — Google review
You know the candy store in Nanton . It's a very nice store they have a very large amount of candy. There real good selection. The staff's friendly but their prices again are very very high for what you get. A lot of people go in there and support that company but yet they take it on other person by charging ridiculous prices. I just don't understand where the world has come to when it's not about the people no more. The compassion for the person is gone
Cliff D — Google review
This business in Nanton is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, 2024. I have stopped in here for the better part of that 20 years, anytime I was passing through Nanton. Being a candy lover, the selection available here is great. I'm always on the lookout for products that aren't found in other stores. It's a fun kind of place to shop and one can spend a lot of time walking the aisles and making choices. Whatever your taste in sweets, you will find something here to satisfy. The staff is friendly and helpful. Given the popularity of the shop, things can get busy, but staff are efficient in processing orders. They sell ice cream as well and one can get a good variety of flavours, with a decent selection of sizes and servings. The shop is also part of the antique vibe of Nanton and has an interesting selection of antique and vintage items for sale. Many times I have stopped in to buy candy and left with some antique item, as well. Over all, a great place to visit when in Nanton.

A really fascinating collection, made with a lot of attention to detail and clear love of the hobby pier Roy one of the owners is also the creator and sculpture, and one heck of a tour guide. Carol was also really nice and friendly and gave us a good history of the place as well. The building looks small but with Roy he’ll take you through an entire journey, and it really brings to life everything that you see in this amazing little museum!

Great little museum full of handmade miniatures, Roy was very knowledgeable is all the items in the museum, I would rank this a 5 star, but for $9 a person it seemed excessive. Definitely a good place to stop in if you have time to look at everything.

Located in Nanton, the Bomber Command Museum of Canada is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The museum showcases three WWII bombers and various training aircraft, along with aviation art, informative videos, and archives. Visitors can explore the well-maintained displays and aircraft while enjoying fascinating films and library materials accessible through the museum's website. Additionally, the museum offers picnic tables in the adjacent park for a relaxing break.
We stumbled across this wonderful museum right as it was closing for the day. Everyone was welcoming and encouraged us to take a little look. We loved seeing the planes, especially the Lancaster, and will definitely visit again on a future vacation in Alberta. Well worth a look.

I was recommended to check out this museum on r/Alberta. Lots of paintings, pictures, and display cabinets to look at. Lots of personal testimonials from Bomber Command crews to read. Definitely worth checking out this place. The Lancaster is massive and you can tour the interior. They have a BF 109. A rare sight to see.

Bomber Command Museum located in amazing little town of Nanton, Alberta. It is a must see! They restore and bring back to life many historic aircraft mainly from WWII. The star of the show is the Lancaster bomber where Carl likes to say “let’s convert some gasoline to noise” and fired up the four V12 Rolls Royce Merlin engines! Spectacular to see and hear! They are also working on rebuilding a Halifax bomber. While at the museum please take a moment to remember the brave men who fought for our freedom at the Memorial wall. Also, I’d like to thank Zarchary for showing me the restoration shop and the work that was being done. Admission is by donation and every dollar helps to keep the museum. So much important history!

The Vulcan Historical Museum offers a tidy and attractive display of various relics and objects. The assortment of artifacts, including an appealing school arrangement and an array of telephones, captivates both adults and children alike. The presence of a pay telephone booth evokes nostalgia for some visitors. This quaint museum comes highly recommended due to its limited yet enjoyable collection. It serves as a pleasant destination where individuals can appreciate the friendly atmosphere and have a good time exploring the exhibits on offer.
Items are clean and well presented. It was an excellent collection of artifacts and items and the kids enjoyed browsing them. We especially liked the school setup, as well as the collection of phones. The pay phone booth made me feel old. Great little museum. Would highly recommend.

We arrived in September and of course, that is not tourist season and Alberta just went back to a higher level for Covid. We did not have our Vaccination information with us because we started our trip before the higher Covid protocols were put into place. The tourism information centre was of course, closed because it was not tourist season. Very pretty town and the starship street lights are a cute touch. We couldn't eat in restaurants because of the Covid protocols so this time it was not a great first impression and I can only rate our visit at 2 stars this trip.

A fantastic visitor centre in a cool town. Lots to see from memorabilia, props from the series, collectibles and a gift shop with plenty to buy. The staff were very friendly too. A must stop if you are a Star Trek fan at any level!

Absolutely adorable and well worth the stop if you're a Trekkie!!! I was charmed and memorized beyond belief by Vulcan and their quirky embrace of all things Star Trek in town. The Tourism & Trek Centre had a great selection of tourist information and a cute little gift store in addition to a few small exhibits.
Molly P — Google review
Okay, if you are a Star Trek fan... you just need to go. You just do, I took my Dad, and he enjoyed the tourism center. When we went there was a random guy dancing. It was a blast. There are a few things to look at all over town, but the true gem is the convention.
Kelly S — Google review
Loved this place! There are so many subtle Star Trek references throughout the town. The town itself is named after the Roman god, so don't expect everyone and everything to be Trek-referenced, but the Trek Centre is a great place to visit for any Trekkie, with a Holodeck museum (all the costumes in there are made by a very talented local) and merch from across the series on display.
Killian M — Google review
A very fun place to visit if you like Star Trek (any of them). Free to get in and great souvenirs in the gift shop. Easy parking even if you have an RV. And the town has a couple of restaurants for food.

If you are a Trekkie it is a must stop. The ladies were so lovely and there was a lot of memorbilia to see. Lots of picture opportunities and souvenirs.

Aspen Crossing is a unique tourist destination that offers train tours with themed events such as train robberies and Sunday brunch. In addition to the exciting train excursions, guests can also enjoy camping in their RV or tent, or stay in a luxury train caboose for a truly one-of-a-kind experience. The campground is available year-round and features family-friendly amenities like a flower garden, pigpen, chicken coop, and lagoon.
What a fabulous place! We had an incredible time here! My mother stayed in a caboose cabin and it was gorgeous inside and out! We camped at a full service spot and loved it. I recommend the Kidd Ranch Train excursion as well as eating at the Tavern. The Sunrise Lagoon was surprisingly clean and deep! I very highly recommend bringing life jackets for your kids! Awesome experience overall!
Kathryn P — Google review
Great campground with everything you need and more. Great food and they allow you to text in your order and get it delivered to your site if the order is over $30. They have an active train system that you can book rides on which is quite unique. I camped out here while on a training course near buy which was so much nicer than staying in a hotel room. I will definitely go back again but with the family next time.
Trevor S — Google review
Just back from a fantastic weekend at Aspen Crossing. We camped in the old loop up top as that's my choice due to the mature trees as well as close to everything. We camped with our neighbors, it was their 1st time there. They had no expectations and they were truly blown away!! We've camped several times and love it so much we had to share it. We had also booked the Great Alberta Prairie Tour Train for Saturday. I have to say it exceeded our expectations!! The meal was top notch, the braised beef was tender fall apart. The dessert was phenomenal. John was amazing, he gave a great history of the area and of trains and answered so many questions. We loved being able to explore the train, I even got to blow the whistle like I was 5 years old again!!! The train robbery was fantastic, so much fun and the gravestones made us die laughing. We will be making this an annual camping stop for sure. We will definitely be back for the Train of Terror again this year. I'm pretty sure you also gained new guests, our neighbors loved the campground and amenities.
Yolanda S — Google review
We stayed in the Union Pacific but my children hilariously yet correctly dubbed it the "Septic Pacific". Theres a septic vent next to the caboose, the outside deck and firepit and it's pungent decaying scent permeates day and night. Huge con! The never ending house flies entering the caboose from some unknown portal on the outside provided entertainment. Thankfully there was a flyswatter included. The two incredibly miniscule sinks proved challenging to use and be useful. Lastly, "sleeps four" is and was a misinformative statement. The pull out couch is slightly larger than a twin or single bed and the person on the outside sinks and rolls downhill all night. Other than these disgusting annoyances, we enjoyed the budding landscape, amenities, stores, mini lake (no sand on the beach), restaurants and more. Super friendly staff (except one asian waitress at the Diefenbaker Dining Car) but otherwise clean facilities, cute playgrounds, respectful patrons and neighbors and well laid-out private, treed sites. Aspen Crossing was worth it.
Vanessa J — Google review
Pretty decent campground mostly for RVs, theirs an older area with beautiful big trees with shade and as this place grew the new area still has young trees that offer almost no shade. This is where my friends got placed, the man made pond is decent. Kids loved it and it has a floating dock. I saw a food truck next to the pond and washroom not sure if it’s permanent or temporary I did not stay long so first impressions were mixed. Camp site has a store and fair size washrooms with showers, toilets were all plugged not sure if they are kept up regularly. Building seemed like it was built fairly recent. I’m pretty sure I missed some stuff but like I said. I wasn’t there long to take all in.
Will N — Google review
We went there for the train of terror. It was so much fun. Very much worth the drive from calgary. Drinks were yummy, bathrooms clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Scare actors were amazing!! 10/10 reccomend!
Vanessa B — Google review
Great place to camp, nice fire pits clean washrooms with hot showers,, wood to purchase on site is at a reasonable price. We did the Halloween terror train. Way better than expected.
Rod K — Google review
I can't speak on the rooms because I didn't rent out one of the caboose cabins, however, I will say that this place is absolutely incredible: plenty of trees in the area. Were in, lots of great places for riding bikes, and plenty of choices for food. The only complaint I have is that the swimming area isn't larger for paddle boarding and other stuff like that. It feels a little bit tight when there are lots of people there, but from the tavern to the camp store to the train ride to the farm, to the bike. Track, this place is top notch. They also deliver wood, ice, and any food you want from the store or the tavern right to your camp spot. Insane value!

Really cool experience! Definitely will go again. Some of the telescopes weren’t working. Only downside was that the presentation room and bathrooms were not clean. Make sure you buy tickets in advance, they sell out quickly.

Arrived at 6:30 pm right as the sun was setting absolutely beautiful view. Had a guided visit with Dr Phil and his intern Hannan. Learned quite a bit about telescopes and how cool they are. Got to observe Saturn on the Celestron téléscope and enjoyed the night sky in a less polluted area

Monthly open-night to the public was phenomenal. Amazing lectures, so many telescopes to investigate, and passionate astronomers and astronomy students to answer questions. Tickets must be claimed weeks in advance, watch their website!
Cara C — Google review
Took a bus load of young people here for a field trip. I didn’t see any of the insides but the view in the surroundings were awesome even though it was hazy due to the high temp.
Guy C — Google review
It was fun! Good presentation talks were given. We had to be patient for some clouds to disperse but once they did it was clear and through the various telescopes and student helpers and RAS members we could see Saturn and the star Altair, and the Comet Lemmon (via telescope to iPad record). Thanks to the Rothney staff and student volunteers and RAS members for a great astronomy viewing night!

It was fun and Informative with lots to look at. Looking through the telescopes was really neat. I was able to see Jupiter's moons.

Bassano Dam

Historical landmark
Nature & Parks
Dams
Nestled in southern Alberta, the Bassano Dam is a remarkable feat of engineering that has played a pivotal role in transforming the region since its opening in 1914. This impressive structure was once hailed as the largest irrigation project on the continent, bringing life to approximately 440,000 acres of arid prairie and significantly contributing to local agriculture. Visitors can easily access this hidden gem and stroll along its length while enjoying stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
A beautiful place. About 20 minute drive due to bumpy road to get here. But worth it.
Hugh D — Google review
This was our first time visiting the Bassano Dam. Our family enjoyed checking out the dam itself and enjoying the overlooking picnic area. There is a historical aspect to the lookout area with placards and pictures of construction. There were pelicans enjoying the dam falls and some other interesting birds like meadowlarks. I much preferred this location to the Brooks Aqueduct. Recommend.
Owen T — Google review
A bit off the beaten path, this place is a wonderful engineering project in southern Alberta. It is simple to access and you can walk it's length with ease. Used for irrigation, the dam holds back a picturesque reservoir. When walking on the actual dam you get a nice view of the spillways and a refreshing mist to cool you off on hot days. There is a small, well maintained park on the hill that explains it's construction and use. Views of the surrounding countryside are wonderful. Well worth the drive down gravel roads to visit.
Terry M — Google review
We really did not know much about the dam so we were very impressed with the history, the views, and the location. Definitely worth the drive along gravel roads
Sandra C — Google review
If you've wondered about this place for a couple of decades, it is worth the few minutes detour off the highway to see it, especially if you like seeing dams in general. I enjoyed stretching my legs for 15 minutes. The is a couple of nice views from different vantage points. I probably won't stop again for a really long time, but I'm glad I stopped by today after wondering about it every time I've passed through Bassano for the last 30 years. The river bank is a lot higher than it looks in the photos, but it isn't super high either.
Gary M — Google review
was ABSOLUTELY spectacular!! the mist on my face from the dam was the icing on the cake ... we had a great time, fished 🐟 a little, walked alot, enjoyed the weather, perfect day!
Annette H — Google review
A lovely spot to have a wonder around, the kids were pretty excited considering. It is a gravel road to get there, easy to find but expect a lot of dust on your vehicle! We went with a trailer as we were coming home from camping in Brooks, there was an area to park but we didn't make it to the lookout area unfortunately.

Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park

Nature & Parks
Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, located about 110 kilometers east of Calgary, is a significant site where five First Nations signed Treaty 7 with Canadian commissioners in September 1877. The park features an impressive interpretive center with giant glass eagle feathers at the entrance and offers guided tours that provide riveting stories about the treaty signing. Visitors can explore the rich history of the area through its beautiful trails and paths while enjoying delicious food at the on-site restaurant.
A huge, well-kept museum in a stunning land with very friendly staff. From the moment you arrive at Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, it’s clear this place is more than a museum it’s the beating heart of the Siksika Nation. First, you will be guided to a theatre to watch a half-hour documentary movie about the tipis and storytelling. Beside the Bow River, the beautifully designed, eco-friendly interpretive centre stands in the very spot where Treaty 7 was signed in 1877, a historic moment expertly brought to life. Inside, the 62,000 sq ft museum is a masterful blend of interactive displays, artifacts, and storytelling. The exhibits on Chief Crowfoot featuring his repatriated regalia and the vivid theatre presentations are poignant and powerful. I was particularly moved by the banner of Chief Crowfoot’s leadership and the display recounting the historic negotiations of Treaty 7 alongside other Blackfoot Confederacy leaders. You can book the Tipi Village experience sleeping in a buffalo-hide tipi, learning ancestral skills and connecting with the land unforgettably. The day we visited, the cafeteria was closed due to construction. There is a store where you can shop Indigenous handicrafts.
Sepideh K — Google review
We enjoyed the history as told by the members of the Blackfoot nation. If you go be courteous and respectful and do not take photos of the downstairs artifacts. It was sad to see so many people ignoring that request. Set aside time to take the 5.5 k west hike. It is not a loop so be aware it's 5.5 k each way. Take water, sun screen, and bug spray. Each station is historic and the views are beautiful. You will need to go further than 5.5 k trail if you want to pay your respects at Chief Crowfoots grave. Turn to the right at the end of the trail to find the dirt road that takes you through an open gate and up the hill to the graveyard that is still in use.
Sandra C — Google review
Visiting Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park was an unforgettable experience. The grounds themselves are beautiful, but even more so is the deep cultural significance of the location—it feels like a living connection to the land and history of the Siksika Nation and was the site for the signing of Treaty 7. The lower-level museum area was absolutely stunning and so thoughtfully put together. The exhibits are both informative and immersive, giving a real insight into the traditional way of life of the Siksika people. The building itself is architecturally stunning, blending seamlessly with the natural landscape. I also really enjoyed the nature walk led by Letty, who guided us through local flora identification while sharing cultural knowledge about the traditional uses of these plants. It was a perfect way to connect nature with history. A highlight of the visit was listening to Robin Bigsnake, a knowledge-keeper, who shared oral histories of the Blackfoot/Siksika. His storytelling brought the history and traditions to life in such a meaningful way. Overall, Blackfoot Crossing is not just a museum, but a truly enriching cultural experience that left me with a deeper appreciation for the history, traditions, and resilience of the Siksika people. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for both beauty and knowledge.
Evan W — Google review
Great museum! I’m really glad that I went there. Learned a lot new about the native culture which I didn’t know before. There’s a theatre where you could watch a video before you start exploring everything. Downstairs there a museum, with lots of realistic stuff. This place is well cleaned and organised. There’s a cafeteria, not sure about the prices of the food, but it shouldn’t be that expensive. The washrooms are really clean and nice. You can go down to the woods, to see how the Native lived and build their homes. There’s a clear path, easy to access. Overall recommend visiting.
Anya — Google review
Everybody should come check this place out. Great museum with so much history, knowledge and artifacts. There are even walking trails to various sites. So glad we stopped by.
Lisa N — Google review
I had an incredible visit to Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park. The museum is beautifully designed and shares the deep history, traditions, and culture of the Siksika Nation in such a powerful and moving way. Walking through the exhibits, I gained a much greater appreciation for the resilience and strength of the Blackfoot people, as well as the significance of this site where Treaty 7 was signed. The staff were so welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing their stories. I would like to shout out our Interpretive guide Lita. The building itself is stunning, blending into the landscape, and the view over the valley is breathtaking. This is truly a place every Canadian should visit to learn, reflect, and connect with Indigenous history. I left feeling grateful and inspired, and I will definitely be back.

Wonderful atmosphere and brimming over with nostalgic vibes! Great place to just watch a film with family in a beautiful a d historic building! The owners are delightful to chat with and it makes cinema going an experience...love this place!

Nice smalltown theatre vibe, but have to deduct a star for being cash only in 2025. I understand there is a business cost for taking debit/Visa, but many people no longer carry cash. Is it worth losing customers over? Very inconvenient.
Mike M — Google review
A wondurful place to enjoy a movie. The seats are comfortable and the place is tidy, well kept up. It has the small town atmosphere that we certainly enjoy and for my husband bring back memories of his childhood coming to this theater to watch movies. This such a nostaigic and historic building. We come as often as we can, forget those big Calgary theatre that are so impersonal. The popcorn is so tasty along with serviced with a smile. Never mind that the prices for admission and treats are so reasonable, plus it is in OUR town. So, folks surport our local gem!

The owners are wonderful! They take great pride and care of their theatre and everyone that walks in the doors. Good pricing, comfortable seats. Such a fantastic theatre here in Strathmore.

Probably first & last time going to a movie here. It’s a nice little establishment and very nostalgic. It’s too bad the other movie goers children were loud, rowdy, throwing popcorn amongst other things, and screaming at the top of their lungs the whole movie (Minecraft movie). Our experience was horrible and we ended leaving the movie early due to our child becoming too anxious.

Played here 10 Jun and found the track to have an interesting layout and priced reasonably. Course was in really good shape with the exception of the waste bunkers which could use some work. We arrived really early for our round and the pro-shop staff got us out there early so that was appreciated and pushed this review to 5 star from a 4 star. The beverage cart seem to get in the way of play from time to time getting to close to the possible landing area or just driving up the path as you got ready to play but that was minor.

Pros: Course is in great shape, neat layout, price is reasonable. Cons: New management this year has let some things slide. No hotdogs at 4:30pm on a Saturday, they send kids out to ask "how's pace of play" instead of hiring marshalls.

GREAT to have a tour of Rosebud museum. It was a Chinese laundromat. The story is that over 100 years ago, the owner suddenly disappeared leaving behind the town's laundromat. Nobody wanted it. So the town folks converted it to a musuem.

The museum is pretty cool. There is not that much stuff in it but Rosebud is pretty small. Some of the stuff in the front room was less small town Alberta but it appears that the museum is also a library of sorts for the community. Museum is by donation. It’s great to keep community history alive so don’t hesitate to err on the side of generous.

Nestled in the charming southeastern Alberta, the Rosebud Theatre & School of the Arts is a delightful gem for lovers of performing arts. This quaint venue not only showcases popular musicals and plays but also offers a homestyle buffet that sets the stage for an unforgettable experience. Recently, I had the joy of attending a matinee performance of "Dream: A New Canadian Musical," which was both heartwarming and beautifully executed.
The play was amazing and the singers were spectacular. The buffet is big and delicious, it is served at The Mercantile which is located across the theater and all the people are super friendly. Highly recommended. Additionally, the tiny town is beautiful. You can walk around and visit the museum and the gift shops, read about the history of the town and meet the neighbors.

We had the pleasure of attending a matinee performance of Dream at the Rosebud Theatre, and it was truly a heartwarming and memorable experience. Before the show, we enjoyed a sumptuous lunch buffet at the Mercantile, and it was the perfect start to the afternoon. The selection was generous and thoughtfully prepared—from hearty mains to fresh sides and a dessert table that was hard to walk away from. The performance was beautifully staged, filled with moments that made us laugh, smile, and reflect. The story felt deeply relatable—woven with themes of faith, community, and enduring values. It struck a perfect balance between humour and poignancy, leaving us touched and uplifted. One line that stayed with us (and had the whole audience smiling) was, “If you can't find it at the Co-op, you don't need it.” The cast delivered their roles with sincerity and charm, and the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of the theatre itself only added to the experience. We left feeling inspired, connected, and already planning our return visit. The setting, the service, and the performance combined to create an unforgettable afternoon. If you're looking for an experience that feeds both the soul and the senses, Rosebud delivers.

We visited Rosebud for our anniversary and had a wonderful time! Its only a small town so people from surrounding communities run the shows and the Mercantile (where you can enjoy a meal before the performance). I assume the actors come from farther afield. The Rosebud Theatre is reasonably sized with gently-sloped seating, allowing for good viewing angles. We saw a new Canadian play called Dream. It was a musical about family and hope, hardwork and kindness. It was heartwarming! The actors were excellent, as was the story. I laughed and cried. I would encourage anyone who loves theatre or good, family-focused messages to go and see it before it's gone (Aug 30).

Drove all the way from Lethbridge to see the Green House play at Rosebud theater. First time to this theatre. Wonderful show! The play was well written and the story captivating. Excellent acting! Really enjoyed the show! The buffet was wonderful as well.

Great little town. Went to the afternoon theater, and had the lunch buffet. The buffet was plentiful and this talented young woman played a few songs on her guitar, she was very good. The play was awesome, and the actors were very talented. Went for a walk through town and was amazed at how western everything in town looked. The hospitality is above and beyond. The staff there, all had a smile. Very informative and fun place to visit. I would recommend this place to everyone to go and experience it at least once.

I experienced the New Canadian Musical, 'Dream' at Rosebud Opera House with my husband. This musical kept us captivated from beginning to end. I've been to many theatres in both Canada and in the United States to see many well known musicals. Taking the risk on an unknown Canadian Musical was 100% successful! We Loved it! The songs were fun, emotional, catchy and creative. We laughed, cried and were enchanted by this true story. Great acting, great vocals, great musicians, incredible story. Oh, and excellent meal options just to add to a perfect day trip! P. Drew, Edmonton

The Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site, located in the Red Deer River Valley, is a well-preserved 1930s coal mine that offers guided tours and a train ride. It is situated about 22 kilometers south of Drumheller and is known for being the best-preserved coal mining site in Canada.
We did the self guided tour. Spent about an hour on the site. It's in wonderful condition. I would have liked to do one of the tours, but it was such a hot day, I wasn't up to the climb to the top. Would definitely recommend visiting.
Shelagh R — Google review
Fascinating site, but very surface-level information given in tour. We (two adults) enjoyed the site, though found the Mine Portal Hike to be underwhelming and a very sanitized/basic level of information. I was hoping for more of a "historical documentary" level of knowledge, but the content seemed was appropriate for school children. Don't get me wrong, the tour guide was perky & enthusiastic, and it's not her fault the script was lacking. The tour -previously- included a much longer walk through the coal chute, but unfortunately part of the tunnel has collapsed.

The Tipple and Mine tours were amazing! The tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. The historic site has a lot of artifacts on the mining history of the area. Great place to go for the day if you are doing multiple guided tours.

Take a guided tour!!!!! You're already here, so get the most out of it. Ashley is a fabulous tour guide. He is super knowledgeable and his love of the stories of the people is evident in how he shares them. The hardhat is unnecessary, but adds some flair to the experience. We found lots of boards explaining the various buildings and machinery. Buying tickets in advance will save you some time!!! Also makes sure you get the time you prefer.

We had a fantastic visit on our way through! A must see along the Hoodoo Trail! We took the Mine Tunnel Hike Tour and our guide Mary was awesome! They answered all our questions and really knew their history! Wished we had had more time to do the other guided tours as well but make sure if Bob is there you stop to learn from him! Such a wonderful gem in the valley we learned so much! We did not buy tickets in advance - got there right at 10 - but would recommend buying in advance if you know you are coming and want to book a specific time for a specific tour - we got lucky and grabbed the last two spots on the mine hike!

Amazing experience and wonderful guides. It was fun and informative. My 14 and 12 yo boys also loved it. We did the processing tour and the train. Make sure to wear closed toe footwear!

Interesting history on the coal mines, lots to read about, good images and interactive. Save your money and don’t do the coal ride. The experience is great without it. Lots of bugs and no shade if you go during the summer.

We did the processing plant tour and a train ride. We enjoyed our tour guide. She was very informative. We also enjoyed checking out the wash house and other buildings on site.

The East Coulee School Museum, located at 320 Railway Ave E in Drumheller, is a restored schoolhouse from the 1930s that offers a glimpse into the region's coal mining past. The museum features various exhibits and hands-on activities within its historic 12-classroom setting. Visitors can explore different rooms showcasing a 1930s classroom, a coal miner's shack, a fossil room, and more.
This is a very interesting museum that offers a fascinating look at the region's coal mining history, the community that grew around it, and former school that was closed in the 1970s as the town's population dwindled. (After the remaining community came together to fix the school, it reopened as a museum in 1985). It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Wonderful experience as a school to visit this museum. They still have the fun playground equipment. Great experience for all.

Wow! What a truly memorable experience at the East Coulee School Museum. We had our 2 cats in their carriers , so it was great that they allowed us inside with them. This place is a hidden gem, if you are in the Drumheller area. There is so much history in this one place. The classrooms with true stories in those books on the desks , are a grim reminder of what life used to be. The staff mentioned that there have been spooky experiences , but none of them are harmful. We were denied entry at the Atlas Coal mine because of our fur babies and that’s how we found this museum. And we are so glad we did. They also have a cute cafe and a lovely gift shop attached. Here are some pictures of our experience.

The manager Cindy helped me so much with researching my family history in East Coulee. It was amazing that she found my grandfathers attendance records from 1945! The museum has a lot of local history and the staff are very welcoming! I am so happy I got to walk the same halls my Grandpa did as a kid. This is an excellent museum with a lot of artifacts that showcase the rich history of East Coulee! Thank you so much Cindy, my family are amazed at the history you helped me find.

This museum is literally a school that preserves common areas and part of the history of the town, which was a mining town so there are many interesting pieces regarding the life of the miners, their families and the boom of the 1920s.

So fascinating the walk threw an old school and the history was so neat to hear about ...I would totally recommend stopping in and having a walk around ...the staff are very pleasant and very knowledgeable and prices are affordable...and they also have a licensed restaurant so when u want to put your feet up and have a drink you can ....

Very cool place that gives you a glimpse of an bygone era. I played a 100+ year old piano and my kids were able to use a typewriter and even keep the paper that they typed random stuff on. I also perused a book from the late 1800s that one of the staff brought out to me and read another school book from 1921.

This place is amazing, first the staff super helpful and knowledgeable, the exhibition is well maintained, it is kids friendly. A little cofe shop and gift shop on site and the entry ticket prices are fair. We will be back, thank you.

Little Fish Lake Provincial Park

Nature & Parks
Little Fish Lake Provincial Park is a shallow body of water with some algae, but it offers a pleasant environment for swimming and walking. The local community has made efforts to create a comfortable atmosphere at the camping site, which includes a delightful playground for children. The area is enhanced by nearby residents who own properties near the lake. While it may not be ideal for those seeking beach or water activities, it serves as a habitat for waterfowl and fish.
The lake is shallow and with a little algae, but it was so nice to swim and walk around there. The camping site is decorated by the local community to create a cozy atmosphere. There is a nice playground for children. The whole area is ennobled by residents who own a combo by the lake

It depends what you are looking for...this could be heaven for those who want quiet, simple and out of the way spot. It is the simplest provincial park I have ever been to. It has a small- maybe 5 campsites? A handful of picnic tables and a swing set with 2 swings. Outhouses on site, I suspect they had running water with size but not positive. There was a water pump on site. There is a lake that would be fun with a small boat. I did see a primitive boat launch area. Small "beach" area with small, nearly sand pebbles. If you want a park with more amenities or just more, this is not for you. It was a fun find for us on a warm & windy day but I would only go back if it was a need to be in a rustic and primitive place.

Although a little bit out-of-the-way, this is an amazing spot to come camping, the campground was amazingly clean, well-kept, and very quiet, even on the long weekend, I would highly recommend this for anyone that likes camping in a nice spot , limited cell service

Well it was 45 min on a dirt rd... pretty sure my shocks are done now... than there's a sign near the boat launch that says. Your not allowed on the beach cause migratory birds nest there, can't go in the water for something else, pretty much no reason to be there.

Very beautiful little campground. The lake is nasty as heck, but if you're just looking for a quiet place to camp and hang out, it's nice

One of my all time favorite places. There isn't much there and it has spotty cell coverage, but it's so incredibly peaceful. Excellent birding there. Bring your own water. No drinking water available.
Andrea K — Google review
Went to take a look. It is not a place to go to enjoy the beach or water. It's a place for waterfowl and possibly fish. There were people camped but the smell from the lake was too much to ever consider staying there. A little gem from a distance though.
