Lake Muskoka Circle Tour

We took the Lake Muskoka Circle Tour, a 95-km scenic drive around the lake — and it was absolutely fantastic! The fall colours were just stunning, with golden, red, and orange trees all along the road.
We visited three beautiful towns — Bala, Port Carling, and Bracebridge — each full of life, cozy shops, and a small but charming waterfall. The atmosphere everywhere was joyful and welcoming.
The weather couldn’t have been better — warm, around 20°C, and almost sunny. A perfect day to explore Muskoka’s autumn beauty.
Highly recommend this route to everyone — families, couples, and anyone who loves nature and road trips! 🍁
Lake Muskoka is excellent for watersports and boating given its large size. There are many cottages on the shores of Lake Muskoka as it was the first lake to be developed. It is a popular lake among families as there are a lot of summer activities including sailing camps, golf lessons, Santa’s Village, hiking, beaches and parks. This lake has many scenic islands, and you can often find the steamships cruising at sunset. We love Lake Muskoka for it’s location close to amenities and beautiful scenery.
The most beautiful lake in Bracebridge & Gravenhurst. A lot of different kinds of birds with some great fishing spots as well!
Lake Muskoka is crazy busy. It is a lovely body of fresh water surrounded by cottages and not a lot of wildlife.
Best vacation destination. You can come here year round (provided you have the equipment) and fun will be had. Lots of fish and the water is great. It is often quite warm and great for any water activity. You can boat to so many places on the lake (gravenhurst for example) and go shopping or eat something. Rent a cottage here and see for yourself!
You are allowed to participate in many water activities in this huge body of freshwater. Some things you can do are boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing and swimming as well as other activities I am unaware of. Many people own cottages on the lake and wherever you go you are sure to be in awe of the pristine landscape, plentiful wildlife and clean water. Absolutely a place to take in the most beautiful water scenery on the vast Lake Muskoka. This lake is also VERY deep in some places and typically has a rocky shoreline where Forest often meets and even hangs over the water or a rock cliff juts straight up from the water. A sandy and weed free beach is a very rare thing on Lake Muskoka, but they do exist, most are man made/maintained. Due to the sheer size of the lake it takes a long time to freeze solid in the winter so ice fishing can be a dangerous sport if you are not versed in the matter. As well, the wind also will pick up very quickly on the water/ice again because of its size. Lake Muskoka can be a dangerous place but its beauty is beyond words.

Our family had the blessed opportunity to visit the Martyrs’ Shrine Church, and it was truly a peaceful and spiritual experience. From the moment we entered the grounds, we felt a sense of calm and holiness.
The church itself holds deep history — dedicated to the Canadian Martyrs (Jesuit missionaries) who gave their lives spreading the faith. Being in a place with such strong spiritual heritage was humbling, and learning about the relics and their significance made the visit even more meaningful.
We were fortunate to attend the Holy Mass during our visit, and afterwards, we received blessings with the relics. Standing there, in the presence of such sacred treasures, felt like being embraced by the grace of God.
Spending time in prayer at the feet of Mother Mary was another beautiful highlight. It was a reminder that in her care, we are always safe and loved. it was a heart-touching experience for our whole family — peaceful, faith-strengthening, and unforgettable. We left with renewed hope, joy, and a deeper closeness to God. 🙏

We had just gone up to visit and see the church and the overall shrine together as a family. It was recommended to us by another family member who had gone. There was a pilgrimage and they were celebrating the Virgin of Guadalupe. The space itself was magnificent. Big open fields and lots to do. We didn’t realize we could have a picnic there. We were able to bring our dog along (keep in mind, pets are not allowed inside the actual church) to walk around the overall shrine. There was lots of parking space and accessible bathrooms. The only complaint I guess I had was that entry fee was $10 per person. I know that’s not a lot but especially with a big family it got pretty costly. Otherwise beautiful place.
This is such a beautiful and peaceful place. The church is located on the highest hill in the area and is beautiful inside and out. Relics of the martyrs are inside and can be viewed. The grounds are well kept with several shrines and an area called "Brebeuf's Prayer Garden". What impressed me most was the canes and crutches on the walls of the shrine left by people who claim to have been healed here.
Martyrs’ Shrine is a truly special place. The church and grounds are peaceful, beautiful, and full of history. It’s a meaningful site where you can reflect, pray, or simply enjoy the serene atmosphere. The architecture is inspiring, and the staff and volunteers are welcoming and kind. Whether you visit for spiritual reasons or to learn more about the Canadian Martyrs, this shrine leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Midland area.
Beautiful place of worship. Many friends and family have indicated their prayers have been answered when praying here. I am not of Christian faith however after visiting here for the first time I can definitely feel the energy. They have a casing of Father Brebeauf's skull which is also very unique.
Remarkably stunning and memorable, the Martyrs Catholic Church Shrine is a testament to the history and religious faith of the Canadian Martyrs. Will leave you astounded at the two reliquaries where preserved bones of the Martyrs lie and surrounding canes, crutches & others ex- votos adorn the area as witness to the healing and graces received. Beautiful and expansive grounds with parking available. On site is visitor information chalet, restaurant with optional outdoor patio and gift shop with religious relics, gorgeous rosaries, holy water and books. Suitable for young children however, access to the shrine is via stairs only and somewhat steep/ lengthy. Admission also includes “Sainte -Marie among the Hurons”, Ontario’s first European community & headquarters for the French Jesuit Mission to the Huron-Wendat people. Amenities on site. Enjoy the walk to the Sainte-Marie among the Huron through the guide footpath or by car ( across the street) with onsite parking. Enjoy a full day of history, gardens, food & exploration of both ensuring lasting memories!
We just happened to find this shrine to attend a holy mass during our short trip to attend a wedding of my cousin who lives in Canada. The shrine had disability Access. Ambiance was very peaceful and calming. Everybody at the premises was kind . I was able to do confession and attend the evening mass. After visiting this place I gained a lot of confidence in doing my PT therapy . I’m blessed and happy almighty God gave me a chance visit here even being on a wheelchair. I saw a lot of crutches there . People who couldn’t walk might have promised to offer after they got healed . I believe one day I will out of my wheelchair and walking without any walker or be dependent on wheelchair . Amen 🙏

We visited Casino Rama for the UB40 concert and had such a great time! From the moment we checked in, the staff made everything easy and enjoyable.
We checked in around 10a.m and the front desk team was so pleasant, helpful, and accommodating and made us feel so welcome. Housekeeping was friendly and efficient - we needed extra towels and they not only sent them up quickly, but brought them in and organized them for us! Even the concert staff stood out — so cheerful which really added to the fun.
The hotel was spotless. Our room super clean and beautifully set up. The pool area was a highlight — bright, clean, and well-stocked with towels. The hot tub was perfect after a long drive, and while the sauna wasn’t in service, it honestly didn’t take away from how nice the space was.
We had dinner at St. Germain’s Steakhouse and it was excellent. The food was delicious, and the service was surprisingly fast for such a busy spot.
Overall, everything about the stay felt smooth and enjoyable. Can’t wait to start planning my next visit!

We had a great time! Our room was upgraded to a jr suite, which was awesome. It was huge, comfortable and very nice. The pool area and sauna/steam rooms were perfect after a long day of walking the casino floor. The property was really nice too, lots of apple trees down the walking trail.
Amazing resort. I am not much for gambling, but really enjoy the concert venue. Rooms are beautiful, very clean and spacious. Great staff. Food at Match Restaurant is excellent (we didn’t get to try the others). Tim’s on site is open 24 hrs. Lovely shops as well featuring local indigenous artists. Well worth the drive!
The hotel is very nice, and decorated beautifully. Room was large and clean. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, some at reasonable prices. I'm not really a casino person but it seemed ok but hate to see live dealers replaced with machines on craps and roulette.
Rama Casino is definitely one of the best casinos in Ontario. It’s a great spot for entertainment and enjoyment, especially for spending weekends. The gaming platforms are exciting, and if played properly, there’s a good chance of getting returns and having fun at the same time.
The only area I’d say could improve is the complimentary drinks — taste-wise, they aren’t the best quality. Otherwise, everything else is excellent.
Overall, I would give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Loved this place! The casino was lively and clean, and the staff were super friendly. The concert hall inside is amazing — great sound, comfy seating, and such a fun vibe. Perfect spot for a night of music and entertainment!

They have huge parking lots. Its a really nice beach for relaxing and having a little swim. My kids really loved the little train ride. Plenty of picnic tables are placed everywhere in the park.

Located near the port, this beach is small and has a lot of pebbles. A small playground and washrooms are available, but really, It's just an ok beach.
It would be better if the beach was combed and rocks removed.
No dog signs are around, but you still see them there. People need to be more considerate for everyone and at the very least, pick up after your dog.
Otherwise, the waters are ok.
Overall, the beach is fine for those in the area. However, not quite a place to venture on to.
It's such a beautiful beach park in Orillia. Water is so clean, almost transparent. Sand was so nice. The water was cold but still we enjoyed this beautiful beach a lot. All the areas in the park, slides, and picnic shelter all were very nice and clean. We look forward to returning here again!!
Couchiching Beach is a charming spot located in Orillia, Ontario, perfect for a relaxing day by the water. The beach is clean and well-maintained, with soft sand and shallow waters, making it ideal for families with children. There’s a large park nearby with picnic tables, playgrounds, and walking trails. The beach area also has washroom facilities and ample parking, which adds to the convenience. Overall, Couchiching Beach provides a peaceful and enjoyable outdoor experience.
After lunch we took a stroll down to the waterfront in Orilla, and to our surprise it was absolutely beautiful. This was our first time visiting the waterfront. There were plenty of trails to walk, a couple of sandy beach spots with public washrooms/change rooms, a fantastic kids jungle gym, splash pad and an outdoor theatre. Plenty of picnic tables and beautiful grounds to have a picnic with your family and friends. There were many options for snacks and ice cream to purchase, and the nearby restaurants are a short walk.
Beautiful beach located in Orilia. A great place for the family. Kids can enjoy the small park, a short train ride and safe swimming for all to enjoy. Well maintained area (clean bathrooms facilities, and green areas). Enjoy admiring the boats along the water horizon. With a welcoming community, this beach park is a must to visit with the family!
The entire waterfront was under construction, part of the Centennial was closed. Managed to find a parking near the railway for kids. The scenery along the boardwalk was beautiful. Still in late May, not many boats in the water yet. A little windy, pretty quiet.
Great beach, very spacious with lot of trees and spacious park, picnic tables, some playgrounds for kids and a train ride for all ages. Great for family. Lot of free parking. It also has a restroom.

We were very underwhelmed by Wasaga beach as a whole, however this was the highlight of the trip. We thoroughly enjoyed this mini putt course it felt like a mini trip to Florida in here. Definitely recommend if you’re already in the area!

This mini putt was so much fun. Great design, amazing atmosphere, the perfect way to end a day at the beach. The staff were amazing and the facilities were great. I will be going back for sure. Especially since my son won a free game on the last hole.
We visited Skull Island on a cooler day this summer with our group of five adults, two kids under 8, and a baby, and we honestly had the best time! The course was fun, creative, and kept everyone entertained from start to finish. The kids loved the pirate theme, and even the adults got competitive and enjoyed every hole. The atmosphere is so family-friendly, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. It was such a great way to spend time together, and we’re already talking about going back next season. Highly recommend for families or anyone looking for a fun activity in Wasaga Beach!
Visited Skull on its last-but-one day of the season. It is one of the best mini-golf courses we've played. Lots of fun. Reasonable price. The whole place is in great shape; obviously the owners and staff care about the details. We'll be back next season!
The kids and I made this summer the summer we did all of the mini golf courses in Wasaga Beach. We rated them in 6 different categories out of 50 points.
We love Skull Island… it’s forever been the place we go. The theme is so on point and we love shaved ice!!! Our only critiques would be the lack of seating for our teen with mobility issues and the garbage on the course sometimes this summer.
Great atmosphere & fun the whole family. I came here last week with a friend. The course is fun to look at, all the water, the greens were very clean and they even have little clipboards to hold your scorecard & pencil! Nice detail. However, the course was not challenging. All except 18 are par 3 but we did most of them in 1-2. This makes it great for kids and families but if you’re an experienced mini golf fan, don’t be surprised if breeze through all 18 holes.

Horseshoe resort was our home base for a weekend of adaptive mountain biking. We were well taken care of by the whole crew. They went out of their way to make the location wheelchair accessible and comfortable for our large group and families to stay for the weekend. The service at the patio and restaurant was fantastic. We had the opportunity to test out their bike patrol first aid services and they were top notch too! Thank you for welcoming our group, we will definitely be back 😊

We enjoyed our stay here during March break for a ski vacation. The hill is nice and well maintained and the cost was good for the ski package. The pool is nice but a bit crowded as they allow people from off resort to use it. The food is the low point see my review on that below.
Rooms are outdated. Definitely not for adults. We tried the “glow in the dark” mini golfing, and it was just strips of coloured LED lights. We had to hold our flashlights to play. Kayaking was fine. However, we got tickets for 10 people and when we got to the water, they didn’t have enough kayaks. They should have told us in advance that they wouldn’t have enough. Also, everything closes pretty early. Spend your money elsewhere.
We stayed in a loft room in the hotel. The room is dated and was not cleaned very well. For the price we paid it was extremely disappointing. The railing up to the loft is all chipped and the carpeted stairs are dirty. There are stains on every piece of furniture. Honesty, I really did not want to sit on them. There were chips left under the chair in front of the fireplace from the previous guest, and the stairs were dirty going down to the fireplace. The bathrooms and bed seemed clean. The service was amazing. The food at the Crazy Horse restaurant was excellent.
I was extremely disappointed to see all the shampoo, conditioner, body wash and soap made in China... Can you not support a Canadian Company in any province???
We did not stay overnight. We spent the day this past summer, experince are abundant and staffs are friendly. We did the mining experiment, ski lift, wall climbing, pulled tube on the beach, mini golf. And we did treetop trekking with separate cost. Perfect activity for family
The hotel stay was nice but you will not get to enjoy privacy of the amenities like the pool and hot tub because the residents that had special need (autism) will be in your face (closer than 30cm) constantly asking what your favourite colour is and not listening to you at the same time, while following you around. Their care givers will not do anything because they expect you to give extra attention otherwise you’re not a good person. I feel for the families that have special need children and I respect them, but following this incident I feel the individuals monopolized the area where others have to give out their rights in order to make ways for the special needs.
Edit: in response to the owner’s comment, please review the fact that the disabled individuals (male) are constantly FOLLOWING girls around, intruding a safe distance and CORNERING the girls to “answer their questions”. If expecting the least bit of help and support is called “wanting exclusivity” then I have no words. Putting the victim in blame because the other party is disabled discarded the last bit of expectation that the management and security of the resort can do the right thing.

Five 🌟 to staff and one to a manager. Breakfast isn't included. At the front desk, was one staff member who was doing a job for two. There is no beach,it's a small pond for kids to play. For the same amount of money that we had to spent here, we decided to go to Dominican all-inclusive next time.

Just finished a 3 day/2 night stay in a slope side room. Staff have always been friendly, food at the Iron Horse is good but a bit pricy and we had to wait about 45 minutes for dinner.
When we entered our room and had ice cubes fall on the floor I wiped the floor and it was so dirty. We couldn’t walk bare foot in the room as your feet were filthy from the dirty floors. Don’t think they had been moped or it was the same dirty water used from other room. Quite disappointing for paying $856 for 2 nights.
My real concern is we killed 2 cockroaches at 3:30am and when I informed the desk at check out there was no discussion or offer of discount etc. The back 9 on the golf course is horrendous as there is no irrigation and it’s been a dry summer. Even the greens are brown and the ground is all cracked. They shouldn’t be charging people for 18 holes when only 1/2 of the course is what I’d call a golf course. Golf price definitely needs to be adjusted to the cost of only 9 holes.

Balsam Lake Provincial Park is the kind of “close-enough to get there, far-enough to feel away” escape that is a win for us. Its clean, sandy, kid-friendly beach and easy hiking trails/scenic loops provide a well rounded experience (note, many trails were closed when we went due to an earlier wind/snow storm bringing down some trees). The park and campgrounds are well-maintained and family-friendly. Since we camped there, we got to the beach early and was able to feel comfortable as the beach got crowded later in the day.
Be aware, the campground roads are a bit narrow, so be aware while driving and walking. At Balsam, you’ll get solid outdoor fun, decent facilities, and a comfortable dose of nature with your ice cream at the Shop.
Balsam Lake Provincial Park offers a truly wonderful outdoor experience. The lake water was exceptionally clean and inviting, perfect for swimming and enjoying a peaceful day. The overall environment was calm and friendly, making it an ideal spot to relax and unwind.
I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities. Both the beach area and the campsites were well-maintained and spotless. However, I was disappointed with the state of the washrooms, which were quite dirty and could have been much cleaner. This is one area that definitely needs improvement.
Despite the issue with the washrooms, I'll definitely be visiting this park again. A key tip for anyone planning a trip: if you want to secure a campsite, be sure to book 5 or 6 months in advance, as spots fill up very quickly. This park is a gem, and with a little more attention to the washrooms, it would be perfect.
Great spot! Well maintained, easy to navigate. Some secluded spots or plenty of wide open sites. The comfort station was well maintained. Lake is nice, solid beach with sand for the kiddies. Parks and open fields to play in. Rentals are available to canoes and such.

Balsam Lake is one of the best camping spots within a couple of hours from the GTA. The campground is clean and well maintained, with spacious sites and plenty of trees for shade and privacy.
The beach is beautiful — shallow, sandy, and perfect for kids. The water is clean and calm, ideal for swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
There are also several hiking trails, canoe rentals, and lots of wildlife around.
If you’re looking for a peaceful nature escape with great lake views, a nice beach, and solid facilities, this park is highly recommended.

Great place to reflect on Canadian history and have a moment of reflection. Ron Baird's Spirit Catcher. He states that the inspiration for his sculpture stemmed from the oral traditions of the Anishinaabe. I photographed this sculpture using a Kodak Brownie Bullet. This camera was manufactured in the same year that numerous residential schools opened their doors. For example the "Amos Indian Residential School" (1955-1973) was essentially a concentration camp where thousands of innocent children were mercilessly abused at the hands of the Church. When I removed the film roll my finger slipped and the 127 spool loosened a lot. They allowed for massive light leaks and caused major damage before I secured it. The damage to the film stock is indicative of the damage done to the European and Anishinaabe relationship. Furthermore the light leaks appear as if they are erasing the sculpture much like Canada's efforts to erase Indigenous people.
I was very impressed with experiencing the Spirit Catcher. I received my new spirit from there. Barrie is an amazing place to visit. The Spirit Catcher- the big sculpture is little on the hill. So view was great! And also a harbor was there. So can see many boats too.

Beautiful boardwalk, so in love with it: excellent for family times, biking, long walking (I did 10 km back and forth). With the autumn, you don't even notice that you do the workout : it's so beautiful out there

We came in the winter months and the path is not clear so you have to climb over snowbanks if you want to get closer to the plaques to read information about the art installation. It’s a good 5 min break or for a quick drive by as a point of interest if you happen to be in the area.

This is a very nice park for anyone to enjoy. We went for a long walk right on the waterfront and stopped to workout at the outdoor workout stations along the way. There are benches and washrooms available. Parking is easy and close to the walking path. From the park there are many coffee shops and restaurants in walking distance. There was a large playground for children as well.
Nice beach front in Barrie city, every year during the civic holiday in August, they have the Kempenfest festival and it is such a nice weekend long event. Nice concerts, food, crafts and much more!
A wonderful and quiet place in the heart of the city with a variety of views and sports. Lush green lawn, basketball courts, a wide range of watersport activities, beautiful trails and lot more. Great place for families!!! We loved it although it would be better if you got on the train and went somewhere. Instead you are at the north pole and then you go on a train ride to nowhere. Not really a big deal. There’s music, drummers, pictures with Olaf. Most of the stalls are selling stuff. On the train you meet princesses, Santa, the Grinch, many elves and they give you a good portion of cookies and a small chocolate milk. My niece loved it here and was especially pleased with the light up hot chocolate cup (refillable for about $13). She keeps asking to go back.

We came here for the North Pole Experience as a family of three. We did not enjoy the experience at all. The train ride is 15-20 minutes south and then it reverses back to the station. There is no stop. There are very limited food options on site, which is unacceptable especially given that outside food is not permitted. We do not recommend this experience at $200. Save your money and go to Wonderland. Go read the other reviews and see that I'm not the only one. Huge disappointment!
This was cute but it really wasn’t worth the price of admission.
Unfortunately it was a rainy day but the outdoor stuff was still open. The prices for souvenirs were marked at one price but we paid far less than marked (which we were happy about).
I was sure for the $400+ I spent for 5 adults, 1 child & 1 child on lap, there was supposed to be a show onboard (there wasn’t) but Elsa, Anna, The Grinch & Santa did make an appearance and stopped briefly at each table and chatted with the kids.
Myself and people at other tables also thought there was supposed to be a show.
There was a small singing group on the grounds prior to boarding, concession stands to but popcorn, hot chocolate, butter tarts and alcohol.
The face painter wasn’t available but a young staff member did paint a Christmas tree on my granddaughter’s face for her.
We did not receive the certificate like we were supposed to.
I also “assumed” there would have been Christmas lights along the route, outside, but you know what happens when you assume.
I was so excited about the excursions with my fans very disappointed for the price we paid.
We did the murder mystery dinner. It was much better than the older reviews would have you believe and it seems like they've addressed many issues, but it's still not worth the $130 price. You're better off getting dinner somewhere and going to a play. Good: vegetarian food was good, cake at the end was great, some cast members did a great job involving people that looked interested. Bad: food service was odd because people near us got food like 20 minutes before us and while we waited, food was being carried past us all the way down the train. The murder mystery was okay. The actors share their time between 3 cars, there wasn't much of a story and there was no strong motive. You could easily miss details if you weren't paying attention or facing the right way. Overall it was okay, but not worth $130 a ticket. I know it's a "donation" and there are many volunteers, but the people paying for this treat it like an outing comparable to other similar activities. Even in the summer, the train was VERY cold, I guess this is nice for the busy staff, so bring warm clothes.
We went to the Easter event on the 8th, due to the previous Christmas event cancelled, they gave us free admission tickets. And it was a fun event, people there are nice and friendly. Most likely they are senior people work as volunteers. And plenty of activities, face painting, jumping castles, carriage ride, little train ride, nothing cost a penny. My son and me were really enjoyed it. We can tell it is a non- profit organization. As I saw a lot of bad reviews about the cancellation. And bad words towards it, it is really unfair. The weather is something hard to control, also we could tell the train is old they do need maintenance sometimes. We should give them more patience and understanding. Our local people suppose to support local businesses.
Such a unique opportunity! I bought tickets for my friends birthday and we went to the murder mystery event. They had free parking near the station which was great and we arrived at 6. The invitation said that the fun starts at 6, it wasn't clear to us we should be mingling with the actors to start the game. But once we did it was great. I do think the young man serving the drinks was really overwhelmed with the line up and cooler. Maybe a additional person to help on the future would be helpful. The best thing about the entire experience was learning that the majority of the people involved were volunteers. That warmed my heart and definitely made me want to come back. The food was better than expected. We recieved a salad, our main plate and a piece of cake. We got the vegetarian option which was a stuffed pepper. The singing and dancing was great! We had to guess the murderer. We happened to be right, I think the end was a bit rushed because we didn't learn the motive or details about the initial murder which you usually do in murder mystery parties but honestly it was a great night. Thinking of coming back for the fall or winter for sure !!
I did the father's day wild west and the food was the best part of the entire experience. They offered brisket and pulled pork with mac and cheese and potato salad and all of it was hot and tasty. It wasn't advertised what would be served so this exceeded expectations.
What was underwhelming was the rodeo and train ride.
The rodeo had 2 horses in a small pen that stood on pedestals and there was some quick rope tricks and a whip demonstration. In my opinion it was lack luster and not very entertaining.
The train ride provided exactly what was advertised at the mimum viable effort required to not be considered false advertising. We were to be robbed during the train ride and that's the only thing that happened. 4 people, some dressed up in western clothes, others just bandanas, said this is a train robbery and then walked up to each person asking for money (goes to charity). This took place over 5 minutes and then they walked around chatting with riders and took pictures with them. The other 55 minutes of the ride we just sat and chatted and looked at the trees since that is all you can see out the windows until you reached the end overlooking a swamp.
I understand this is a non profit, but I can't recommend this to anyone I know. I'm likely not the target audience for this kind of experience as a young adult, as it appears to be geared more towards seniors and families with very young kids.
At least I got to spend quality time with my dad.
Felt like cheated when we arrived at the location. Kids bouncy castle passes were for $25 and tokens for $3. Some bouncy castles require 2 tokens and some required 3 tokens. At the time of booking the website mentioned ground pass in it. What’s the point of including ground pass if kids have to pay for the fun additionally. Website should mention it clearly that bouncy castle costs $25 on top of train rides. Overall a below par experience of slow train ride and worn out facility.

Along with all the animal facilities, the zoo also has a splash pad that opens in spring and closes in the first weeks of fall, a zip line, a carousel, and souvenir shops.

Toronto Zoo is a great place for families. Even though there is construction happening right now and a few animals are not available to see, it’s still absolutely worth visiting. The zoo is clean, spacious, and well organized. My son enjoyed the kids’ learning areas and interactive displays.

We got our family season pass and would come about once every one or two weeks. There would be a lot of people on the weekends and can get quite noisy. We prefer to go on weekdays.
There are many animals in the zoo and my toddler love it. There are some animals who are alone and it would be great if they may have a companion for them so they would be less lonely.
The staff are usually very friendly and helpful.
Honestly, I love this place, but man, it is a workout. You absolutely need your most comfortable shoes because the zoo is massive and you will be walking all day.
The enclosures are huge, which is great for the animals, but it does mean sometimes they’re hiding in the back and you can't see them. The polar bears were actually active this time though, which was super cool. It's a solid day trip, just be ready to be exhausted by the end

The only reason I removed a star is because, although I understand many of the animals not being out because November is cold, in the canadian area there were supposed to be 6 animals out and we were only able to see 3 of them. That was definitely not worth the absurdly steep hill we had to climb on our way back. That was the only downside of the experience. Loved the place though.
We were there in early November, I was surprised at how many animals we saw. In their winter housing situations and not available for public to view. I was impressed by the cost, it's very affordable for a family of four. And stayed at a local hotel with a pool. The kids already want to go back.
It is a fantastic place to visit with family and friends. We had a good time seeing all Fall colors and walking around. While animals in captivity is bad, it is still important to understand them and value their importance in our lives. They have so many different species of all kinds of animals. Some animals are always resting so you don't get to see them always. You have to pay $20 for the parking and the tickets are extra. They have plenty of parking though.
Definitely recommend visiting once.

This location has many sub locations. It has a park, a beach and also a cliff side- all of these with beautiful views. Rotary park parking takes you to the beach which is breathtaking.
First time visitor on a really hot day. The view is nice not bad it's a very rocky beach so if you intend on walking on the beach don't. The one thing I disliked a lot is all the people on those little scooters that constantly were around almost running us over quite dangerous and I did not like that.
Lots of fun to be had ! Two separate playground areas. One for older kids and one for toddlers. There is also a big splash pad with lots of room. Plenty of outdoor spaces to sit and enjoy a picnic. There is also a beach area to enjoy. Washrooms are close by to the playground and splash pad.
Paid parking on weekends 10$ for three hours by scanning the QR code online.
The Rotary park in Ajax is a little gem complete with a playground and a beautiful lakeside trail. There is also a little store on site that sells refreshments, to satisfy your sudden hunger pangs. The most beautiful part of this park though is the long and clean waterfront trail. There are plenty of bird houses on the trees. The air is fresh and the view is amazing. You can walk or run or bike or just enjoy the view with some ice cream.

Do you want to fish with a minimal wave? This place is loaded with fishes, especially catfish. You will enjoy a panoramic view of nature while fishing, kayaking, or paddle boating. Of course, you need to have your personal floating device worn all the time as you don't want to drown here. There's a big trail of bike and picnic area to enjoy aside from fishing.
Ample parkings on weekdays. There are public washrooms. The trails run to east and west. To the west, there is a long elevated bridge, very scenic. The trail continues across the Montgomery surrounding the nuclear power plant. Looked like the city did some Reno works lately. Nice trail.

The skating experience here was great! Went on a Saturday night and loved that it was not over crowded. The park was so cute with lights and skate rentals provided on site. There were washrooms and some staff available to help on ice. Skate aids require a helmet rental and are limited to around 4 so it’s first come first serve. We are new skaters and once on the ice, it was manageable but if you need support like rails or barriers then this may not be the outdoor rink for you. There was also ample parking on site. Would recommend.

Ok this park is awesome. We went around 11:30am so still plenty of parking. We did the petting zoo, splash pad, park and mini golf. We had alot of fun although my daughter fell at the splash pad hitting her head, saying it was quite slippery. Will take water shoes next time. Everything else is great though and will go back.
A nice and fun place for family. You can embrace nature even when you live from the city side. It has a huge playground for kids, peacful place for relaxing in the fountain side. The staff across the mall (security, concierge, and stores) were friendly and helpful. Parking was smooth, and public transit access is super convenient too. Food options are amazing with so many modern, trendy spots to choose from.

I've been bringing my pets to this veterinary clinic for two years, and I cannot recommend them enough. The level of care and affection they show to all my animals is truly heartwarming. Such a great educational experience. You can go there with your family, too much fun for kids and adults. The staff was friendly. If you are visiting during winter better to know that when you arrive and get your tickets you have to wait for shuttle buses around 5 minutes so don’t take off your jacket ( if you have strollers or wheelchairs you will take accessible buses)
There are 6 levels. The best for me were levels 6 and 4. There is no level 1 actually. (the shuttle bus will drop you off in level 6)
Level 4 is great for kids they will play music, do gardening, bakery, building and other activities they can also play with water and build dams and … the good point is that level 4 has nursing room too.
There are sanitizers everywhere. Clean washrooms with changing table.
Better to bring your own snacks and water bottles. But there is restaurant and snack bar inside the building as well.

Since my family and I have a membership, we decided to come and visit the museum today. The bus ride was about 20 minutes. We walked instead of taking the shuttle bus because the line was too long. Previously, we have had experiences of food poisoning from the cafe, so we packed our own lunch and were able to get seating. This museum is amazing. There are exhibits for all- from deep water exploration to bat caves to the reproductive system. Came with kids and explored the play area on the second floor. Had a blast. Overall a great experience and would come back again.
There are a lot of activities for small kids. My 5 year old and 4 year old kids loved the experience. We needed more than 3 hours to truly experience the whole place, which unfortunately we didn't have.
The exhibit halls have to be accessed from the rear entrance, and there are frequent shuttle busses that run between the main and the rear entrances.
The family center was really fun and engaging for us. It's a great learning experience.

Incredible museum that enchants young and old. The explanations for natural and scientific phenomena and the exhibits are made so interactive that you want to see them all!!! It is worth spending a day. If you have children they will appreciate it. You too. Parking costs 15 CAD. It has a cafeteria inside where you can eat or drink something. But you can also have your own food and sit at tables outside the dining room.

There are plenty of interesting things for the adults as well. Did you know there's a big plant called Tulip Tree? I didn't. I like it that the entire place is spacious with high ceilings. There are so many interactive & interesting things strategically placed not too far from each other so visitors don't crowd into one place. Can you spot the dragon lizard?

The main entrance- we realized we needed to take a shuttle to the exhibits as the bridge is closed? We didn’t have to wait long for a ride thankfully (each way).
The exhibits don’t seem to have an order to follow and sometimes we found ourselves a little turned around.
There’s some on different floors as well. Probably should’ve done research on areas to see prior to going but usually museums
and things like this have a better flow.

It’s aimed more so at children and families. It has a lot of fun experiments but it seems very dated in some ways and a lot of things were out of service which was sad.
I enjoyed the Moderna exhibit- maybe because I’m in health care. I didn’t learn too much- but what I did was fun little tidbits and I really liked seeing the models and human body in action.

It’s a lot of walking as well but they have a lot of accessibility options.
A little underwhelmed and disappointed, it seems if you plan your day to do the live experiments and events with the staff it would be better. Also staff was super involved and fun.

just visited the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate in Guelph, and it was seriously impressive! I'm always on the lookout for stunning landmarks, and this one definitely delivered.
Inside, it's so peaceful and beautiful. The light streaming through the colorful stained glass windows was magical. You can really feel the history and the importance of the place. It's the kind of place that makes you stop and just take it all in.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in Guelph. It's easy to find, and wandering around inside is a great way to spend some time. It gives you a real sense of the city's character and history.

This is one of my favorite historic site in Ontario. inside and out are so stunning, well detailed. Though I not visiting church like other Christian I would say I will be regular here if I am living in this area. So beautiful, if you see the interior of the church you definitely be in 'awe' moment.
I visited the BASILICA OF OUR LADY IMMACULATE today, which is in Guelph. It was a half an hour drive from my place in Waterloo and I have been wanting to visit the Bascillica for the longest time ever. Although the website said the Basilica closes at 3 pm, we were able to visit and pray in peace when we reached there at 3:30 pm. The place has a very calm and soothing vibe, it's very peaceful and beautiful. I spent around 20 minutes there talking to GOD. And then witnessed the amazing architecture. One should visit the Bascillica if they need a break from the busy world and want some peace and time to talk to GOD.
Don't forget your 3 wishes if you're visiting the Bascillica for the first time. 🤭
Beautiful basilica! I love coming here during the weekdays, with no one around to calm my mind in thoughtful prayer. I’m in absolute awe with the artistic intricacy and architecture, both interior and exterior. The stain glass windows come to life as the sun shines through it. Beautiful all year round.

The park is pretty, beaches are nice, but it's very crowded on the weekends and we couldn't find space in the parking lots. We saw that many many cars had parked on the right side of the road where there are signs that say parking is forbidden on certain hours and days. A hidden gem in Mississauga! It’s a beautiful conservation area with a long boardwalk over the marshes. You can follow the boardwalk all the way to a shingle beach. The beach is fairly long with lovely views of the Toronto skyline. It’s a peaceful place; even on the weekend it was not busy.
One of the entrances to the conservation area is from a quiet, secluded residential area. It’s a great place to connect with nature and get some exercise.
Beautiful park! Took the stroller and did the most of the Waterfront Trail, the Knoll Trail and Silver Maple Trail. I would say the Knoll Trail was best for the stroller as it was almost all boardwalk. The Silver Maple Trail had parts where it was less flat / maintained, with tree roots and such, making it a bit harder without a proper jogging stroller. There was a couple of small steps where the Waterfront Trail connected to the Silver Maple Trail, as well. No entrance fees or tickets needed. Overall the park is gorgeous, the trails are well maintained and it is a great spot for hiking!
No tickets required to enter the place. We can park vehicles at Jack Darling memorial Park as there are no parking at Rattray Marsh Conservation area. We need to be in foot only on the broadwalk, no bicycle is allowed. Get prepared for insects and ticks. It has a good views and many animals to view.
A lot of great views. You will have to park through John Darling Park. The view of the skyline and the water in John Darling is worth a trip. And an entrance to the marsh can be found around the back. Alot of nice spots to stop and take pictures on the trail. ~40-60 minutes to enjoy everything. No tickets needed.

We visited during Maple syrup festival which was also during March break so a popular outing for families. We purchased tickets in advance as they did limit the number of people entering at a time for this event. The tickets were good for 2 hours. Plenty of time to enjoy everything. This is a family friendly, reasonably priced venue . I intend to go back and visit again this summer.
What a marvelous gem! So many open houses and stories. The interpreters were outstanding and the First Nations perspective by Rope was an highlight.
We thought 3 hours will be enough but plan to be there 4-5 hours with all the stories you can hear.

This is an incredible historic site! The properties are very well taken care of and the village as a whole is so charming. On sundays there are costumed interpreters and many of the buildings are open. I learned so much! It is interactive and fun for all ages. I went for about three hours and it wasn't long enough to see everything. There were some crafting activities I got to take part in. The general store sells real snacks! (the chocolate chip cookies are really great). Many of the buildings here were used as filming locations for shows like Anne of green gables and Murdoch Mysteries. Learning about medical/ surgical history was my favorite part. If you're lucky you might even get to meet some very pretty horses as some people ride them through the trails here. There is ample parking and the roads are flat and easy to walk. Admission to this site also grants you admission to two hiking trails near by. I came on a sunday at it wasn't busy at all. The storytellers here are very talented. Can't wait to come back!

Beautiful, historic place to see. The tour lasted 45-60 minutes and the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of this place and the people who lived here along with servants. The tour brings you back into 1830 with 42 rooms, original furniture, pictures and clothing..
Amazing how things were 'done' 200 years ago, before the industrial revolution. The castle was full of servants and everyone knew their duties.

A cool step into the past. Our tour guide Roxanne was very knowledgeable and gave a great tour. So many interesting artifacts to see and a fascinating history.
Tickets also included entry to another military museum at any time, looking forward to checking that one out in the future.
We planned on always visiting but something came up so we decided on that day to just go and we did. We loved it beyond words, from start to finish. The atmosphere was incredible, clean, friendly with the staff always greeting us answering anything we needed. The tour guide was the sweetest person very polite and informative as were the other members inside.
I would highly recommend visiting and taking a tour.
If you’re from Hamilton I would recommend getting your library card to cover the cost.
No issues with parking as there was ample space.
I would suggest taking the tour twice to fully embrace the experience.
Another National Historical Site in the City of Hamilton. Very well-kept and well-maintained grounds. Free entry for those with a Hamilton Library Card. Gift shop available. Decent size parking lot available. Hall rentals available. No free WiFi. Benches around for you to sit and enjoy. There is a playground as well as a coffee shop.
We stopped by Dundurn Castle while driving around and only explored from the outside this time. The grounds were beautiful—we even caught a glimpse of a wedding, which made the visit extra special. The highlight for us was the Kitchen Garden, a large and well-kept space where staff dress in period costumes. It’s a lovely spot for a stroll, and we look forward to coming back to do the full tour another day.
This place has a completely different vibe. It was my first shoot here, and I’m definitely coming back for more. A true photographer’s heaven — stunning architecture, diverse backdrops, serene water, and lush greenery all in one spot.
What a beautiful historic castle. Beautifully decorated and set up. Taking the tour was well worth it, our guide was a wealth of information. We very much enjoyed our visit.
Even just seeing Dundurn Castle from the outside was worth the trip! The architecture is stunning, and the grounds offer amazing views that make you stop and stare 😍. It’s easy to imagine how grand life must have been living here back in the day—like stepping into a history book, only with fresh air and geese for company 🦆. Next time I’ll definitely go inside, but for now the exterior alone gets 5 stars!

We attended the Whiskey weekend and took the tour. A great place and very informative. Bonus was the live music, BBQ, corn hole game, bottle signing, gift shop and the free samples. Definitely going to make this a yearly event. Well worth it.
Tasting experience was great! Taylor was friendly and informative regarding the whiskies and liqueurs offered at the distillery. Online reservation is highly recommended. Pricing is worth it for the tasting!
Forty Creek has been one of my favourite Whisky’s for a while, since the Tariff’s took away Kahlua is no longer obtainable, I decided to try Bolivar’s Coffee Liquor and it is easily a superior product. I always order directly through the distillery and they always get the package to me the next day. This last order was suppose to come with a free 50ml sample of Pickled Vodka that never came in my package, but the shipping is so quick and everything else was right that I don’t really care. The packaging they send the items in is also really nice and ensures the bottles do not ever touch. I hope to get the 3L barrel they sell soon and maybe in the future, get a chance to tour the distillery in Grimsby Ontario.
We had a terrible experience at Forty Creek Distillery after driving roughly 20 minutes out of our way to visit them. The moment we walked in, we were treated like an inconvenience rather than valued customers. Despite arriving 30 minutes before closing time, they immediately shut down the tasting option and seemed annoyed when we asked to try just one whiskey. The three girls behind the counter had a negative energy and made us feel unwelcome. We were the only customers in the store after a few others left shortly after our arrival, yet they still couldn't be bothered to provide decent service. We ultimately decided not to purchase a bottle from them and will be looking for another local distillery to support. Overall, I was incredibly disappointed with the service at Forty Creek Distillery and would not recommend them to anyone.
If you are in the area, it needs to be added as a "must" stop. If you aren't in the area, make it a destination!
The variety, service and exceptional offerings are well worth it.

Great place to bring kids to, lot of different war time planes to see. There are 2-3 different types of aircrafts where the kids can go in and even sit in the cockpit. Lot of historical information related to specific planes and the role they played during various wars. They have 2 propeller planes which offer the opportunity to fly in them as well. They also have free flight simulators which are a lot of fun. There is a small merchandise shop which is nice. There is ample parking. overall lot of fun for kids and adults alike. Overall must visit place for anyone interested in WWII, Canadian history and aviation history.
Great place to learn about Canada's contribution to the world wars. Minus one star for the aged and disabled who wish to visit the open flight deck but have to walk up 3 flights of stairs. Thanks to all the young and experienced cadets who are really impressive with their product knowledge. The restorers and engineers are doing an amazing job fixing up this rare collection. The Runway cafe is really good value with all the usual fast-food you'd expect. And acknowledgment to the pilots who give their passengers an unforgettable experience
A surprise birthday flight on the C-47 Dakota was a very memorable experience. My original flight was cancelled due to poor weather conditions so I rescheduled the next available date which was Rememberance day. The pilots and other volunteers provided excellent information about the history of the plane. We flew over multiple Rememberance day services during the flight and experienced the excitement of banking into a turn. I've flown many times on commercial and smaller planes to northern communities but this flight will always stand out as unique with the rumbling roar of the piston engines and the bare bones interior. Would highly recommend to any plane enthusiast, a truly unforgettable experience.
Excellent place to visit and see the planes and learn how they were helpful to RCAF in defending sovereignty of our country. Interactive videos of decorated airforce personnel, who are not amongst us but the museum has kept them to see and learn about their lives. Place worth visiting.
We had our wedding here in October 2025. Stevie-Jane couldn’t have been more accommodating and easy to deal with. She communicated everything to us clearly and set expectations appropriately!! The day went as smooth as can be! All of our guests said the venue was so unique and fun! If you’re looking for a unique, and classy wedding venue, this is the place to be!!
What an awesome place. My 13 yr old wants to be a pilot and just being there with him was such a great experience. There was a large group of air cadets when we were there so we could not get a guide, but the self guided tour of the museum was fine.
Would absolutely recommend to any plane enthusiasts and also anyone wanting to see some really neat Canadian history.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is more than just a museum – it’s an experience. What I loved most was the hands-on aspect. Unlike many museums where everything is kept behind ropes, here you actually get to climb into cockpits and explore the interiors of some of the aircraft. It felt amazing to sit where real pilots once sat and imagine what it must have been like to fly.
The collection itself is incredible. Each aircraft comes with detailed stories and history. I was especially impressed that many of the planes are still in flying condition — it’s not just a static display, but a living museum.
The museum is also very family-friendly. Kids seemed to love the interactive displays, and adults could spend hours taking in all the history.

Situated in the town of Niagara-on-the-lake, this park is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the town. A stretch of lawn with benches for a small picnic or a small beach area to relax and have fun. A small pathway that is nice with a great view of lake Ontario. Just across the street is parking and it is conveniently located near the downtown area. A perfect tourist attraction, period.

Step back in time and embrace the joy of childhood at the Lakeside Park Carousel. This iconic carousel features over 68 intricately carved animals, including camels, horses, giraffes, goats, and lions, as well as four charming chariots crafted between 1898 and 1905. The nostalgic music from an antique Frati adds to the enchanting atmosphere.
Very nice area. The water was wonderful and my kids really enjoyed it. This is also a great fishing spot. Beach area is small, washrooms and change rooms are available. 3 hour max parking for approx $10. The parking area is a zoo, lol. There's also a park area for the kids to play. There's also a beautiful board walk. I call it lovers lane lol

A beautiful old carousel by the lake! The kids had a great time and it felt like stepping back in time for just five cents. Some of the original animals are still there. We also enjoyed the beach. The water was nice and the kids had lots of fun! Only challenge is getting a parking nearby.

Ride for only 5 cents, if you don't have a Nickel a larger donation is always appreciated. Great Park, take a stroll on the Pier or play in the sand on the beach.

The carousel is right by the beach, surrounded by trees and picnic areas, so it’s easy to make a whole family outing of it. The music and hand-carved horses give it a nostalgic feel, and it’s always well maintained thanks to the city and volunteers. Parking is available nearby, and washrooms are close by in the park. It’s busiest on sunny weekends, but the line moves quickly. Whether you’re visiting with kids or just want a bit of old-fashioned fun, this is a must-see stop in Port Dalhousie — timeless, affordable, and full of heart.
This carrousel I believe is the oldest one in the country. It is iconic and a wonderful piece of history still cost only a nickel and it’s situated at Lakeside Park the popular Rush song it talks about Lakeside Park, beautiful beach, and park and a lot of amenities around there from dining to exploring solid five out of five in Port falhousie would highly recommend once you’re finished navigating around the park you can walk the pier to have a great vantage point of some of the best sunsets around. Great place to visit whether you are a local or a tourist.!

Our visit to the St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre was an absolute highlight of our trip to explore the area around the Welland Canal and the many communities that it runs through. This place offers an experience that’s equal parts historic, scenic, and totally unique.
The grounds are beautifully maintained, making it a peaceful and inviting spot to wander. But the true showstopper is the canal viewing platform, where we got front-row seats to watch massive ships navigate Lock 3 of the Welland Canal. Watching those vessels rise and lower is nothing short of mesmerizing—a real testament to human engineering and perseverance.
Inside the museum, the exhibits are thoughtfully curated, covering a wide range of topics, from regional heritage to the remarkable history of the canal itself. We especially loved the Lacrosse Hall of Fame, a hidden gem within the museum that celebrates the deep-rooted cultural and sporting significance of Canada’s national summer sport. It's interactive, educational, and gives the game the spotlight it deserves.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a ship buff, or just looking for a unique stop in Niagara, this spot is a winner. We left feeling inspired, a little more informed, and already talking about a return visit. It was the perfect spot to start our Welland Canal History Road trip.

What a beautiful and interesting place to learn about the history and how the Welland Canal works. It's also an excellent spot to discover and get familiar with one of Canada's national sports: lacrosse. The view of the canal from the observation deck is spectacular, and if you're lucky enough to see a ship in that water lock during your visit, the experience becomes even more impressive. The facility includes clean restrooms, large parking lot, gift shop, audio-visual room, rentable event spaces, picnic tables, an adjacent playground, and a beautiful memorial honoring the many workers who lost their lives over the canal's 200-year history.
The St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre is one of those local gems that beautifully blends history, engineering marvels, and quiet charm. I stopped by on a sunny afternoon and was pleasantly surprised at how much there was to see and learn—especially for a museum that often flies under the radar compared to other Niagara-area attractions.
The museum itself is well-curated, offering a deep dive into the history of St. Catharines and the vital role the Welland Canal played (and still plays) in Canada’s transportation story. I especially enjoyed the exhibits on early shipping, local industry, and the stories of the people who built and lived around the canal.
But the real magic is outside, on the viewing platform. Watching the massive cargo ships pass through Lock 3, right in front of you, is absolutely mesmerizing. You get a true sense of scale and the incredible engineering that goes into canal navigation. It’s great for kids and adults alike—you can spend a peaceful hour just ship-watching.
Your kids can borrow a backpack of explorer. It is free and welcome for donation.
The staff are friendly and informative, and the building is clean and accessible, with plenty of parking. Whether you’re a history buff, an engineering fan, or just curious, this museum is well worth the visit.
A fabulous museum of not only the Welland Canal (impressive in its own right) but also of the town of St. Catherine’s.
It’s an absolute credit to the town and the museum founders/staff/managers to have the foresight and dedication to amass such a wealth of history and their culture from colonial times right up to modern history.
Excellently preserved classic cars, lacrosse history, but the small stuff too e.g. a display in the towns Soap Box derby which ran I. The 60s & 70s.
I could have stayed here for hours.
Best to time your visit to coincide with some of the big ships passing through the canal (check the ship tracking apps/websites) and then check out the museum, all of which is free.
A great place to visit in St Catharines. Completely free though donations are accepted. A history of the Welland canal system and the Ontario Lacrosse museum. There is also a nice little park on site.
The museum was interesting and the staff very helpful. We watched a mid size shop go through the lock and another larger one go back through the lock. A great experience.
Awesome experience. Very cool to see the massive ship, the locks, and draw bridges. The museum itself is packed with cool historical items and it's free to visit. For anyone driving to or from Niagara this spot is a must visit. Little kids will be amazed at the sights.
St. Catherines Museum and Welland canal was a cool experience. Seeing the boat in lock three was an interesting experience. The museum inside features several unique artifacts about local history, interesting and interactive sections for kids, and a lacross history section. Overall great experience!

Such a nice trail, mostly paved. At one point you can take a ferry and join the Niagara trail too. We have done lots of variations of this. There are lots of places to stop and park. Highly recommended.

Great place for any age!! The trail is a great place to go on a nice day out!! The old canal also has some trails you can explore that bring you along a really historic area!! Love going here to relax and just go for a peaceful walk! Great place for a bike ride to the pth is all paved and ready to go! The Welland Canal is a ship canal in Ontario, Canada, connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It forms a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. Traversing the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller in St. Catharines to Port Colborne, it enables ships to ascend and descend the Niagara Escarpment and bypass Niagara Falls. It is the fourth canal connecting these waterways; three smaller predecessors also bore the same name.
The Welland Canal eclipsed other, narrower canals in the region, such as the Trent-Severn Waterway and, significantly, the Erie Canal (which linked the Atlantic and Lake Erie via New York City and Buffalo, New York) by providing a shorter, more direct connection to Lake Erie.
The southern, Lake Erie terminus of the canal is 99.5 metres (326 feet) higher than the northern terminus on Lake Ontario. The canal includes eight 24.4-metre-wide (80 ft) ship locks.Seven of the locks (Locks 1–7, the 'Lift' locks) are 233.5 m (766 ft) long and raise (or lower) passing ships by between 13 and 15 m (43 and 49 ft) each. The southernmost lock, (Lock 8 – the 'Guard' or 'Control' lock) is 349.9 m (1,148 ft) in length.The Garden City Skyway passes over the canal, restricting the maximum height of the masts of the ships allowed on this canal to 35.5 m (116 ft).
What an incredible place for a hike or especially a bike ride! I’ve done the entire welland in Canal. There are so many different things to see. It’s so wonderful and it’s paved all the way. It’s pretty cool watching the big ships come down the canal.
These canals are always interesting. Such a great idea of moving ships up or down. Nice to walk around when it's not that busy and watch the ships pass.
We had no GPS but we drove around till we found it and it was so cool. A ship was going through.
