Tumalo Falls

Mentioned on
1 list
Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Nestled within the stunning Deschutes National Forest, Tumalo Falls is a breathtaking 97-foot waterfall that should be on every nature lover's itinerary. The journey to this natural wonder is an adventure in itself, just a short drive from Bend, Oregon. While the last stretch involves a well-maintained dirt road, it leads you to an accessible parking area where your exploration begins. From there, it's just a brief walk to various viewpoints that showcase the falls' majestic beauty.
Tumalo Falls is absolutely stunning! I visited during the snow season and it felt like stepping into a winter wonderland. The best part — we had the whole place to ourselves, which made it even more special and romantic. The snow-covered trees and the waterfall framed in white were picture-perfect. We stayed until sunset, and it was nothing short of magical — the sky glowing against the snowy backdrop while the falls kept roaring in the quiet forest. Truly one of the most beautiful and peaceful experiences I’ve had in Oregon. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a mix of adventure, beauty, and tranquility.
Sid — Google review
Somewhat easy hike to Tumalo Falls itself and then up to Double Falls. We enjoyed the scenery, and you can go down to Tumalo Creek to wade in places.
M P — Google review
A great place to go! Road: the last two miles are gravel and dust. Any car or truck should be able to make this and need to be washed later. Parking: the first thing you’ll is a small overflow lot. This is where one pays a park fee of $5. Tap your credit card and out pops a pass. You can park here and walk a 1/2 mile to the trailhead. Or you can keep driving to find a parking spot along the road or at the small main lot at the entrance. We were there on a busy Sunday and found parking on the road. Falls: walk along the path for great viewpoints. If you go beyond the top of the falls, there are places for water access. Restroom: Yes. Nothing amazing but better than none at all.
Larry F — Google review
This was an amazing opportunity to visit the falls! The weather was perfect and it was not that busy at all. The road does get a little bumpy but it was well worth the short drive from Bend! I could just stay there for hours you will get lost in the peace and quiet with the flowing water....amazing!
Troy M — Google review
Nice hike. Elevation gain was steady. Beautiful views. Nice overlooks parking limited. Vault toilets. Main trail dogs are allowed. Side trails, no dogs.
Clay M — Google review
Absolutely amazing. The walk up to the viewpoint is steep but manageable. Nice easy trip from Bend. The last couple miles is a little bumpy but easy for even a car.
Brent S — Google review
Great, scenic, pictuesque out and back hike. Several waterfalls if you follow the tumalo creek trail. Easy, uphill hike.
Dave G — Google review
Our first visit to the fall. I don’t believe I ever been here before even when I lived here in the 70s. It was a nice cool day and very light crowds. Yes there is a nice gravel portion of the road. Make sure you have decent ground clearance coming in. There’s some nice creators in the road.

Benham Falls

Biking Trails
These turbulent rapids on the Deschutes River are accessible by forest trails with lookout points.
You can park on the side of the road if the parking is full. Path is paved and well maintained and has good signage. Great for walking dogs and families. There are people that ride the bike on the trails as well.
Wendy M — Google review
The walk from the parking lot is very easy and flat. The trail is wide and gravel so you don't have to worry about where you walk and you can move quite quickly. The word "falls" is used very loosely here because this is not a waterfall at all and is merely a small patch of rapids on a river. In my opinion it is not worth the stop if you are in the area and have limited time.
Joe D — Google review
A beautiful waterfall that’s easy to reach from the parking area, making it a great stop for a quick nature escape. The scenery is stunning and well worth the visit. However, the road leading in is rough and unpaved, so be prepared for a bumpy ride.
Thilaka W — Google review
Super pretty spot. There is a lot of options here to hang out by the river, bike, hike from the visitor center. The bird watching was great. I love seeing the cedar waxwings.
Jennifer R — Google review
Nice rolling rapids. Didn’t see “falls”. Nice paved walkway and parking area.
Clay M — Google review
Beautiful falls. A short walk down to the landing. The falls is about a 3 mile drive up a dirt road
Gary — Google review
Hiking this trail was a great experience for my whole family. The path is for all levels of walkers and hikers. You can stay on the easy path all the way there, and when you get to the falls, they do have steps built into the hill. But if that's too difficult, you can take the path that goes back and forth, for a much easier way. The falls are so beautiful, with a few good viewpoints. Just don't forget your bug spray, as we all got eaten alive
Jenn W — Google review
Don't expect huge falls or anything big...its more like rapids. But its a nice walk/hike for beginners or you could choose a different path which is strenuous hike. Cool breeze from water while you stare at whitewater keeps flowing down the Deschutes River.

Lava Lands Visitor Center

Mentioned on
1 list
Visitor center
Hiking area
Tourist information center
The Lava Lands Visitor Center is a fantastic starting point for exploring the wonders of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Here, visitors can embark on the Trail of Molten Lands, which meanders through ancient basalt lava flows and connects to the serene Trail of Whispering Pines. This paved path features informative signs detailing the geological history while offering breathtaking views as it ascends towards higher elevations. Along your hike, you'll encounter fascinating lava channels and tubes that showcase nature's power.
Very interesting little hike, great map of the area that explains how massive the volcanic activity is. Epic views from the top if to can get on a shuttle before it closed down at 4pm
Vance E — Google review
Such a great experience. The centers exhibit are well done and share a rich history of the region. The forest staff were helpful in guiding me to nearby waterfalls. And the bike trails are well maintained. And the shuttle up to the top of Black Butte offered incredible views.
BigsnYets W — Google review
Beautiful area and the Rangers are all so nice and knowledgeable about the area. There are lots of walking paths and educational opportunities. The visitors center had a nice gift store along with great exhibits of the area. We took the shuttle to the top of the Lava Butte, it was hot that day so it definitely was better than walking.
Chelsea V — Google review
Really cool park. But unfortunately couldn't do the drive up to the mouth of the volcano. When we got there we asked the visitor center staff if the gate closed soon because we wanted to know if we needed to do it first, they said no so we did the walk first, but when we went to drive up the gate was shut. Still did the longer drive up to the obsidian rocks and lakes higher up, long drive but was pretty cool.
Angus — Google review
This is an awesome area to visit and won't take very much time. The visitors center has beautiful and informative exhibits and there are a few films that they will show you when requested. The trails are paved through the lava fields and are not too steep. Views along the way are fantastic and it is surprising how extensive the lava is.
Denis L — Google review
The visitor center is nice, several workers their for assistance. Nice gift store, clean bathrooms. Paved walking path out into the lava flows. They offer a bus ride to the top of the cinder cone where there is a fire tower. Tickets for the bus are $5 each.
Jeffrey R — Google review
5$ ticket is not bad to go uphill and see the view. If you plan to visit this place You just need 40 to 50 minutes. If you take a trail it’s 1 mile walk. But for Lava River Cave you need to book in advance otherwise you will waste your time if not planned in advance.
Dr P — Google review
The park ranger was very knowledgeable and explained the area and volcanic activity easily. Great view the shuttle $5/person totally worth it!!!

Sparks Lake

Lake
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Sparks Lake is a stunning destination that beckons outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Nestled just a 40-minute drive from Bend, this picturesque lake offers breathtaking views of surrounding mountain peaks, making it an ideal spot for kayaking and canoeing. The journey to Sparks Lake includes a bumpy last stretch, but the reward is well worth it. Once you arrive, you'll find convenient amenities like restrooms and access to lovely trails that are perfect for leisurely strolls or photography sessions.
Sparks Lake is a kayaker's dream, especially for those with young children. The shallow waters are perfect for splashing and wading. The sandy bottom makes it comfortable for little ones to explore. The water's clarity is remarkable; you can see straight to the bottom, though fish seem to be elusive in these pristine waters. Despite the refreshing chill of the water, the mid-80s weather made for a perfect day on the lake. The stunning views of Mount Bachelor, a popular ski resort, provided a breathtaking backdrop for our kayaking adventure. You can pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a leisurely day on the water, encountering friendly people kayaking, paddleboarding, and enjoying other non-motorized activities. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, making Sparks Lake an unforgettable experience.
Robyn H — Google review
Camped at Sparks Lake in early August. Bit of a rough road getting in, but do-able. We turned into the first campsite we found on the right. Mid 40s at night and nice and warm during the day. We were on a little point and caught a nice breeze esp in the afternoons. Mosquitos were only a problem in the woods and when the wind died down, and even then they weren't that bad. Really a beautiful spot!
Clay P — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous lake at the end of one of the most bumpiest roads I've ever been on. The lake itself is so peaceful and the views of the mountains are incredible. I didn't float out far but the water was insanely clear as far as I could see. Definitely recommend checking it out if you have a car that sits higher. OH! And don't forget your bug spray, the bugs are brutal if you don't have it handy.
Amanda H — Google review
It was love at first sight! Due to a really rough access road, it was not even close to as crowded as touristy Elk Lake was. It's quiet and peaceful here. There's a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and really cool rock formations. I went during the fires, so it got extremely smokey in the afternoon, but it was decently clear in the morning. The lake was almost all only a foot or two deep, and I dragged bottom a couple of times. But there's a lot of lake area now covered with beautiful flowers because it's so shallow. This was my favorite of all the lakes!
Karyn G — Google review
The road getting in definitely needs repair so be prepared for that. The lake is quite shallow, and anything deeper is going to be to the south. Beautiful Mountain View’s.
Jerrod P — Google review
A very nice lake, especially at sunrise, I recommend taking nothing smaller than a suv because our car scraped a few times but it was well worth it driving back in for sunrise, even if there wasn't any clouds in the sky. It was about 32°F so the steam over the water was amazing. The restrooms were horrible. I highly recommend this lake to landscape photographers, especially at sunrise because all you have to do is drive to the day use area and you have thr perfect view at the lake side right by you.
Mark M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place. I’m sure it’s great during the spring and summer too but the frozen lake and the scenery around it during the late fall and winter is just stunning. Definitely need a 4x4 to access this lake unless you want to hike all the way in from the main road.

Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort

Mentioned on
1 list
Ski resort
Outdoor Activities
Nestled in the stunning Cascade Mountains, Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort boasts an impressive 3,683 acres of skiable terrain accessible via ten lifts, including one that takes you to the mountain's summit. As a first-time visitor from New York, I was thrilled by my experience here! The resort offers a variety of trails catering to all skill levels—beginners can enjoy gentle slopes while more advanced skiers can challenge themselves on steeper runs.
Fun in winter or summer. I came here in the winter for cross country skiing and came back now for mountain biking. There are trails for all skill levels, and each run is well maintained and easily accessible. We had a blast. We ate at the restaurant at the bottom of the run and had an excellent reuben and club sandwich. Pricey but good.
Michael L — Google review
First time visiting Mt. Bachelor. Did not ski - yet still had the time of my life. Such a fun gondola ride up the mountain. Other activities included zip lining (sadly, did not get the chance to experience such a great ride) Staff was so helpful and friendly. The gift shops were well organized, of course staying busy yet still able to be in and out! Would love to come back for more fun activities
Claire G — Google review
What a FUN time. The staff is very nice, easy going, professional, knowledgeable, and extremely safety conscious. The views are spectacular and the ride itself is a load of fun. Your ticket allows you to ride the lift up again after your zip line so you can go back up, explore, hike, or enjoy the vista. Highly recommend this mini adventure.
Jan T — Google review
Awesome ski resort. Great snow quality. We did spring skiing and throughout the day were switching lifts and runs to escape melted snow:) Great choice for kids as well! The only thing...I would love to see more healthy food options in lodges. Pizza, burgers and fries...So people usually bring some food with them and there is a whole level in the Lodge to enjoy it ( there is a microwave as well).
Svetlana G — Google review
The zipline is a MUST!! The only downside was the address link in my email confirmation took me to the wrong address about 25 miles away and almost made me late for the experience. Barely made it! My friend and I went together for my birthday and it was THRILLING in the best way!! Staff were all fun, upbeat, and very knowledge. I would definitely recommend a go-pro or some way to safely secure your phone on you to record the experience, otherwise any items must stay in zippered pockets or in cubbies on the ground. FANTASTIC views!! Just absolutely stunning.
Emily M — Google review
Everybody knows that you can downhill ski at Mount Bachelor but recently I had the opportunity to try downhill mountain biking and what a great time that was! I’ve been living in Bend Oregon for 30+ years and over the last three years started mountain biking but I had never had the courage or opportunity to try the downhill. I was totally impressed with the amount of design built into all of the trails and it wasn’t just for high-level downhill experience, there were also more lower level trails which is where I started and worked my way up. It doesn’t take very many runs to feel like you’re exhausted. It’s a lot more physical than what I’ve ever realised so I ended up enjoying a nice lunch at the restaurant while the other guys that I were with With had a few more runs. what a beautiful day here’s a photo.
Mr E — Google review
Summer lift-access biking here is incredible. The blue flow trails are long and enjoyable, the black tech is gnarly, and Redline is probably the best jump line for an intermediary rider.
Christopher B — Google review
This may be the most impressive ski resort that I've ever driven up to. The mountain is massive. While it looks imposing from the drive, Mt Bachelor is Heaven for intermediate skiers. It has tons of open bowl skiing paired with lots of wide low angle glades. We skied here during spring conditions, but I can imagine this place being amazing during a big storm.

Hosmer Lake, located near Bend, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. In the summer, visitors can enjoy kayaking and camping on the lake. The area is also great for cross-country skiing in the winter, with opportunities to explore various parks along the Cascade Lakes Highway. The lake offers unique kayaking experiences and stunning aerial views that are perfect for photography or drone footage. While it can get crowded at times, the expansive lake provides ample space to paddle and take in breathtaking scenery.
Paddled that gauntlet with my wife and son awhile back. The slithering snake between the two ends of the lake was so cool. Absolutely stunning
A. W — Google review
Hosmer lake is so beautiful! If you kayak all the way to the end you can sit and eat lunch by a small waterfall. The water is so clear that you can see fish swimming underneath you and the views of the mountains are beyond stunning. I recommend going early; we usually get there around 6:30am so we can have the lake mostly to ourselves, as the lake and parking lot can get quite crowded later in the day. Also, make sure you have a recreation pass as they are required.
Samantha B — Google review
This was our first visit, but it won't be our last! We had such a great time kayaking. We were out almost 3 hours. Everyone on the lake was so pleasant. So fun to see everyone enjoying the day!
Lisa P — Google review
This is a beautiful summertime lake to visit. I love to stand up paddleboard there. Parking can be kind of difficult so maybe go early or late in the day to find a an easy spot.
Steve B — Google review
Parking can be tight but a beautiful lake - worth the drive!

LaPine State Park

Parks
Forested area with camping, cabins & a river, plus an ancient, 162-ft. tall ponderosa pine.
Reservations required here. Super easy process to check in/out. Large, clean and quiet park with 100s of spaces for tent and trailer camping. We had a spot right next to the river. Several walking paths to get to the water where you can float/paddle or just hang out. We only stayed one night but would definitely go back! Beautiful scenery and reasonably priced.
Stacy C — Google review
We stayed a week, which was about a month too little. The last few days were raining, which wasn't the parks fault. Very quiet as it is about 5 miles from the highway. Don't expect very good cell service here. Starlink worked great. Many trails and a beautiful river. A huge list of things to do and see in the area. We will be coming back for more. Expect visits from tiny ground squirrels and even smaller chipmunks. They are high energy and entertaining. We had visits from Stellar Jays (a type of blue bird).
Russ R — Google review
Good campground, clean and well kept. It is popular and can get very crowded. Bathrooms and showers can get a bit competitive. If you are going for peace and quiet, think this one through. There are a ton of kids on bikes, scooters etc...it is an awesome place for kids so it makes sense, but it is loud during the day. If you have kids, this place is fantastic. The river, playgrounds, trails...it has it all.
Dave V — Google review
For camping, it all depends on the loop and space you choose. It is a well kept park with several trails and a lot of thieving chip turds (California golden mantled ground squirrels). We come here as often as we can. Do expect huge temperature swings if you camp here.
Scott R — Google review
Pretty forested state park and campground. You can visit the world's largest Ponderosa Pine Tree and several places to view, play in, or launch kayaks into the Deschutes River. Campground spaces have hookups. There are also standard and deluxe cabins.
Matthew W — Google review
Stayed in a cabin in the South Loop and it was magical. Lots of hiking, biking if you are into that and beautiful views of the river and Ponderosa pines. It was quiet and camp sites were well spaced. Park rangers were very nice and firewood and ice were easy and self-service (easiest to use cash, but credit possible.) Cabin had heat, 2 queen beds and small dining table with 4 chairs and a tiny desk and electric outlets. Outside a small porch with bench and picnic table, bbq and fire pit. Showers were warm and bathrooms clean. Close to lava sites like Obsidian Flow, Paulina Peak, Lava Cast Forest and Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Pay attention to weather and temps as it is high desert. So June can be cold. Also, look up what passes you may need for the sites you want to visit. Definitely coming back.
Paul E — Google review
Nice campground sites are not too close together , however with the recent cleanup and trimming of trees they've done, there is not much to interrupt the view between sites if your looking for privacy. we would stay here again.
David M — Google review
Beautiful park. I called the reservation number a few hours before arriving and got a spot. There were several available. Level (for the most part) spaces with full hook-ups. Very quiet. Lots of friendly folks...campers and staff. Extremely limited cell service (T-Mobile). Paid $45 for the night.

Interesting little stop just off the highway on our way to Crack in the Ground. Bathroom and picnic tables. Short easy hikes all over the rock formations.

Place is pretty cool. The walk around the inside of the rim is worth doing if you have time. Panorama views of the valley. Cell service with T-Mobile if you can see the town. Blazing hot most days but no bugs.
Larry H — Google review
Great little trail. It's definitely worth the stop. Nit a hard hike and there are a ton of beautiful views.
Nick R — Google review
Jake, the host, was super helpful with local knowledge. We ate lunch, enjoyed the shade in the pavilion, and marveled at the view. Nice that there are toilets and running water as well.
Brian E — Google review
Aptly named fort-like rock formation. Absolutely worth a visit if you're traveling on OR-30 and for me it was worth the hour drive from Bend. I was the first one there in the morning and was immediately struck by how dead silent it was (maybe it was because there was no wind). I ended up walking the full interior path and inspecting some of the more interesting formations. Kids would love this place. There was ample parking and running water, but when I was there the men's room was pretty gross, but they are working on it, so I used the women's room, but there was also a portable toilet, so I can't complain. I'd love to come back here again.
J W — Google review
Great spot, off the beaten path. Great short hikes into the center of an ancient volcano. Restrooms and covered shaded picnic tables. Plenty of parking available. The park host was very friendly and shared lots of information and history about the geology and park. The views are amazing from the center of the ancient volcano, you can see for hundreds of miles. If you are driving by stop in, only 6 miles from the main highway. Not crowded and a hidden Oregon gem.
Blake M — Google review
A great place to see towering volcanic formations in an ancient lake bed in the high desert of Oregon. A loop trail will take you on an uneven rocky trail that is slightly steep in places for about a mile in each direction around the rim. You will find great views of the surrounding desert and mountains from the higher parts of the rim As you hike the rim, you might see a number of the birds that nest in the rocky formations that tower above you. It can be windy and cool as you hike around the rim. Ft. Rock does have picnic tables, a bathroom, a park host, and interpretive signs. Located about 36 mile from La Pine on a few country roads off of OR-31 S. A nice place to hike in the high desert around an ancient volcanic formation with great views of the surrounding desert and mountains.
Ed L — Google review
Very cool natural area! The hike inside the fort was fairly short under a mile. We will go back to hike the rim, and explore more including the museum and the cave nearby. Definitely start early as in like 7am because at 10 it was so hot we got through the hike as fast as we could because there is absolutely no shade.

Salt Creek Falls

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Powerful single drop waterfall cascading 286 ft. with an observation platform & loop gravel trail.
Lovely roadside stop! Right off the highway and plenty of day use options. Lots of parking, bathrooms, info boards, picnic area, dog friendly, but there is a $5 day use fee. You may use your NW Forest Pass or National Parks pass in lieu of the $5. There is even an electronic fee box to buy a day pass. Salt Creek Falls is the second tallest falls in Oregon at 286ft. This falls is unique in that there are three different viewing platforms. The first is ADA accessible and you get a sweeping top view of the falls. We saw a double rainbow today. Down the trail are stairs leading up for a higher view, but then quickly descends 300ft to a lower viewing platform. The trail is well maintained. After viewing the falls, there are other trails leading to Diamond Creek Falls and all the way to Vivian lake. You could make a nice long day of it here. So pretty! I’d like to come back and hike to Vivian Lake. Enjoy this nice stop suitable for all ages and abilities.

I took my niece visiting from Utah, the drive there was so beautiful. The trail and park were clean, the waterfall did not disappoint. We did continue to hike Diamond Creek falls after that. We were supposed to pay for parking but payment machines were not working so we didn’t have to pay. We liked that The trail to Diamond falls was marked by blue diamond shaped medal nailed to the trees We did pack a lunch to eat on our hike. Lots of mosquitoes.

Unbelievable waterfall. You can visit it from the top or walk down an easy hike to about midway. Simple to get to park your car and walk about five minutes. Would I go back? Absolutely. I highly recommend anyone stop and visit this place.
Kris K — Google review
Beautiful short hike to see this waterfall. You can view it from the top or you can hike down to see it up close. The decent down is pretty easy, path is clean and clear from vegetation and there is a rail you can hold. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash. There are no toilets at the trailhead parking lot, but there’s a restroom about 1/4 mile away with clear signs. Parking is plentiful in the morning but fills up fast by noon. There’s a $5.00 fee to park, and a working pass machine is on-site and easy to use. If you have time consider hiking to Diamond Falls, it’s absolutely stunning and overall the entire loop with both waterfalls is about 4.5 miles. this was a fantastic day hike with great scenery, cool forest paths, and gorgeous waterfalls. Highly recommend!

Stunning waterfall, canyon and views. Easy walk through the forest to enjoy the viewpoint. I also appreciated the sturdy fences and safety rails at the site, and the educational signage near the parking lot. Well worth a stop and the $5 day use fee to visit this beautiful natural wonder of Oregon.
Tina P — Google review
Salt Creek Falls is absolutely stunning! At 286 feet, it’s one of the tallest waterfalls in Oregon and so easy to access—just a short walk from the parking lot to the main viewing platform. The upper viewpoint is ADA-friendly and offers a breathtaking look straight at the falls, while the trail down to the lower viewpoint gives you a closer, more powerful perspective (a bit steep but worth it!).
Prashanth R — Google review
Striking falls, nice hike. I imagine it will be spectacular in May when the rhododendrons that abound in this forest are blooming

Breathtaking falls you can view steps from the parking lot. This is a must-see stop on the scenic Highway 58 drive.

Diamond Lake Resort is a serene lakefront retreat offering a range of accommodations, including motel rooms, studio units, and multi-bedroom cabins. Situated along Resort Drive Diamond Lake, this family-friendly resort provides easy access to summer and winter recreational activities. The property also features three restaurants and an RV park in Diamond Lake Loop.
We stayed August 29th in room 16. We absolutely loved everything about the entire complex. Outside facilities are nice and clean. Dinner was excellent while enjoying the lake view. Very happy and will be returning. Thank you.

Great getaway in a remote, idyllic setting. Some of the structures are newer, others a little more rustic, but if you want to get off the grid, this is the spot. The staff works hard to keep folks happy, and there is a good sports bar and outdoor patio on the lower level of the lodge. The menu has improved dramatically since my last visit - would return.
C R — Google review
Beautiful location on the lake. Our cabin was great also. Very clean. The hotel is in the national forest so a lot of restrictions on how and when they can paint so starting to look a bit old. It’s like 15 minutes from the crate lake NP entrance so one of the closest resorts. Will go again

Great old resort, over 100 years old! My brothers, sister in law, and I stop here every year during our annual camping trip. The foods yummy and the service is outstanding. They also have dog friendly seating outside. You can rent boats here too if you'd like to spend the day on the water, lots of fun.
Vivian G — Google review
This place is absolutely horrible. I read reviews where people call it ‘rustic’. It’s actually dilapidated. Grossest, dirtiest motel experience of my life, and I am over 50. Opened the door to our hotel room, and immediately see dirt and tracked in debris on the floor and carpet. Bed looked like it was made then sat or laid upon. Went into the bathroom and there was a gross wad of hair in the shower drain. The refrigerator was dirty, like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks or even longer. There was a layer of dust on literally everything. The table, lamps, coffee maker, a/c, everywhere. We stayed three nights and NEVER had any maid service. If I am going to pay over $150 per night for a hotel room, I expect it to be clean. We only stayed because they have a ‘no refund’ policy unless you cancel 10 days ahead. We never ate at the restaurant, because if the room was that dirty I didn’t trust the restaurant. You couldn’t pay me to stay here again. And I will warn my friends as well. Just plain gross!

Went here for our 20th anniversary and had such an AMAZING GREAT EXPERIENCE! we stayed in the hotel suite and it was clean and nice and everyone working here are very chill and great. We stayed 4 days and it wasn't enough, will def be planning yearly trips here. We rented a boat for a day, took our ebikes on the 11 Mile paved bike path and fished and hiked. Had such a wonderful time, can't wait to go back! Cannot recommend this place enough. Nice quiet relaxing place. They have a store and restaurant and bar and also have guided horse rides right down the road. Great for biking, hiking and atv riding, everything was reasonably priced

We stayed in a cabin along the water. The location was amazing- close to Crater Lake, and Diamond Lake was beautiful with excellent hikes and bike riding. The cabin was very tired. The screens had holes in them (which meant mosquitoes inside). There was no AC but we didn’t need it as it was still cool in the end of June. Too cool to go in the lake but great weather for fishing, paddle boats etc. We had thunderstorms 2/3 of the evenings. No WI-FI. We did NOT think it was a good value for the price.
Laurie J — Google review
We stayed 2 nights at the resort while visiting Crater Lake. There are not a lot of lodging options in the area, and compare to the lodge at Crater, this is a "value." The cabin was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath very close to the lake - which was great. The beer garden was nice, and we did not utilize the restaurant. The cabin is that - a cabin. Not glamorous, but basic. No AC, which was not needed in July, and somewhat rustic - basically a place to lay your head and rest from hiking the lake. There are wonderful views of Bailey and Thielsen from the property, and Diamond lake was nice to cool down in the heat of the day. The cost of the cabin was high for the value - but again, there aren't many lodging options in the area, so I'd stay again.

Hiking Trails
Cleetwood Cove Trail is a challenging 1.1-mile hike that leads to the shores of Crater Lake, offering stunning views and access to boat tours. The trail starts from Rim Drive and is the only way to reach the waters of Crater Lake. At the bottom, visitors can swim in the lake on hot summer days or take a boat tour around the lake, which provides insights into its geology and history.
So glad I walk the trail this year because they are closing it down from 2026 to 2029 for some pretty major renovation projects. The hike is very steep on the way up but well worth it! This is the cleanest water in the United States you can drink it right from the lake. I would highly suggest getting an early start to beat the crowd. Also, if you are going to take a boat ride, buy your tickets online before hand and print out the tickets sometimes they lose power.
Bartellj — Google review
Did the boat tour out to Wizard Island, hiked there, and then came back up Cleetwood Cove Trail. The views of Crater Lake are amazing the whole way, and it’s the only way down to the water. The trail is steep, so some might find the return climb tough, but it felt fine to me, just a steady uphill walk. Totally worth it for the unique chance to hike the island and see the lake up close.
Vicky W — Google review
Drop dead gorgeous views from the very top. Hike going down is not too steep. Spent about 2 hours swimming and fishing once we got to the bottom. If you’re not an experienced hiker I’d recommend going at a steady pace. Not slow. Still get a workout in but just steady. Do not stop. You’ll definitely feel the incline. It’s about a 750 ft elevation gain in about 20ish minutes.
Valente G — Google review
The only permitted place to get down to the water of Crater Lake. It's very popular, and hence very crowded. The trail starts out about 700' above the lake, so it's easy to get down, not as easy to get back, so take that into consideration, don't spend too much time and energy in the hot sun and swimming, because you still have to make the trek back up to the parking lot. The facilities down at the docks are old and falling apart, so be aware that this trail will be CLOSED through 2027 from what is published on the NPS website. There are rock outcroppings from which people dive into the water, people more brave than me! The water is incredibly blue and clear, you can see a hundred feet or more down into the water. If you walk along the rocky shore away from the dock, it's possible to find a spot further away from the crowds, we did just that, and took a quick dip into the water. Even on an unusually hot day for mid September, the water was very cold, but also very refreshing. This is one of those bucket-list type things for visitors, to go swimming in Crater Lake, it was something I'm glad we did but I wouldn't do this regularly, as the trail is long and steep to get down to the water.
Allan R — Google review
Yes it’s quite steep and gets crowded in the summer, but well worth it as it’s the only place to access the Crater Lake shoreline. Recommend going for a refreshing swim in the chilly water for the full experience, remarkable how clear it is. However, note that the trail will be closed until 2027 as per the NPS for maintenance - all the more reason to put it on the list and look forward to enjoying the improved hike.
Tony I — Google review
Absolutely incredible trail with views almost the whole way. Once at the bottom, we swam in the crystal waters and were shocked that even up-close, the water is still such a deep blue. We wore our swimsuits on the walk down and up, though there are restrooms at the parking lot and at the bottom so you could change there, but I bet that it is a tight spot to do it and honestly, pit toilets are always a little gross. Do not underestimate the difficulty of this trail. We saw three people who had passed our and another being carted back up the trail by rangers on a special cart that looked like wheelbarrow on tank treads. It is doable, we are two adults, two teens and a 12 year old but be prepared to take your time on the way up, bring plenty of water, and expect it to be hard.
Michael Y — Google review
What a wonderful experience. People of all ages can be seen on the trail. I had to come before the trail closes for the next few years. Going down the trail is the easiest part. Be prepared to take twice as long going back up. I went down early am, back up a few hours later. I had a nice little visitor while watching the water. Suggestions: wear good walking shoes. Take plenty of water for the trail back up. Even if it’s not hot, going back up you’ll need it.
Rachelle R — Google review
This was are first time on this trail. It's the only way to reach the lake's edge and we wanted to do so before the trail is closed for the next three years for improvements. The trail is mostly in the trees. It is rated as strenuous, but is manageable if you take your time on the way back. It is 1.1 miles each way on packed dirt, with benches every so often. The water is stunning blue and cold. Many hikers were testing the water, with some swimming. A large parking lot has valted restrooms. There are some at the bottom of the trail also, but I don't recommend them except as an emergency. It took us 25 minutes to go down and 50 to walk up. We are 70 years old in average shape.

Crater Lake is a breathtaking destination that captivates visitors with its stunning beauty and rich history. Formed over 7,700 years ago by the eruption of Mount Mazama, it stands as America's deepest lake and one of the world's most remarkable natural wonders. The vibrant blue waters are mesmerizing, offering different shades depending on the weather conditions. A scenic drive around Rim Drive spans 33 miles, featuring numerous overlooks where you can soak in panoramic views of this majestic lake.
What can I say? Words are not enough. Just breathtaking! This was the reason I planned a vacation to Oregon. It was very high on my “bucket list” and totally worth planning a vacation around. Entry into the park is $15 per person or $30 for a car. Absolutely worth every bit of it. Then you drive a few miles up to the rim where there is a lodge, gift shop and visitor center. You can also drive to the west rim. Both have stunning views. Very busy in the summer but not so much that you can’t find parking. There is less congestion on the west rim view points. Actually probably more to view there as well.
Hi J — Google review
Stunning. I was there in late June and some of the trails were closed as they were still covered in snow. The gift shop was busy, which is to be expected as it is a national park and when kids are out of school. Even so, the lovely people working the check out desk took their time explaining many things to do and had maps to explain in detail where various visitors could go and would be best for their specific needs. I unfortunately couldn’t explore any trails as I had a van full of dogs with me. I was able to park and get out and take some amazing pictures. I will definitely be back sans dogs!!

Being the deepest lake in the US and its clarity and deep blue color, it’s a must visit national park in the west coast. Breathtaking views on each overlook and hike trails. Cleetwood Cove trail takes you down the lake where you can get a boat tour in the lake, you even get a taste of the lake water as part of the tour!
Selin K — Google review
One of the most spectacular sights to see. We came in early July and were treated to stunning views at every stop. We took the trolley tour which was a fantastic way to see a lot of the lake, especially because it was so busy later in the day and it would have been impossible to see as much with the traffic. Must see!

Crater Lake is absolutely breathtaking — a must-visit destination in Oregon. The views from the Rim Drive are spectacular, with unbelievably clear blue water and dramatic cliffs at every turn. The park is well-maintained, trails are clean and accessible, and the Visitor Center staff were friendly and helpful. We hiked a few rim trails — every viewpoint felt like a postcard. Great facilities, informative signage, and plenty of scenic pullouts for photos. Perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and families. Can’t wait to come back!

7/18/25 Crater Lake National Park -$30 park entry fee for a vehicle. Vehicle reservations not needed and plenty of parking around the lake at look-out sites.
Crater Lake is renowned for its deep blue water color and dramatic volcanic landscape.
Rim Drive is a scenic 33 mile drive around the lake with numerous viewpoints and pull-off areas.
There are several short moderate hikes providing opportunities to explore and enjoy the different views of the lake. The visitor center can provide information. Many beautiful views around the lake!
The park is usually snowed in with limited access through winter and spring. Summer from July 1st - September 30th is the best time for a day trip when the park is fully opened. Consider the potential for fog and varying weather conditions in early mornings. There are 3 primary waterfalls within Crater Lake National Park: Vidae Falls, Plaikni Falls, and Duwee Falls. Another waterfall, Annie Falls, is also located within the park. Vidae Falls 100' tall: Easily accessible, a roadside falls.
Duwee Falls 100' Plunge: One of the three primary waterfalls within the park.
Annie Falls 53' tall: Located at the south end of Rim Village Historic District along Annie Creek. Plaikni Falls 20' tall: Accessible by almost a 2mi 45 min. round hike off Pinnacles Road. One of the park's primary waterfalls.
*The Pinnacles in Crater Lake National Park are located east of the Rim Visitor Center along Wheeler Creek. Take a right turn off Rim Dr. onto Pinnacles Rd and drive south to the end of the road. Look-out site there. It is a .4mi hike -10 min. doing the trail. Enjoy!!

This place was absolutely magical, well worth the 9 hour drive to see it! Amazing what nature has been able to bring to life through many events. Believe it or not, this was created from a volcano inside another Volcano 🌋! I'll definitely come back to see this magical place again! Highly recommend camping nearby, its worth taking your time to see all the view points at different times of the day. Enjoy the trip!

Rim Village Visitor Center is a must-visit stop at Crater Lake, offering nature exhibits, a bookstore, and stunning views of the lake. In summer, it's the perfect place to gather park information and explore the neighboring Sinnott Memorial Overlook with its geology museum and observation terrace. Ranger talks are also available several times a day. While closed in winter, weekend snowshoe walks depart from outside the center.
Clearly marked route and even with the snow six feet above the roof of my 4 runner the road was free.of snow and Ice. Negotiating the walk up the snow bank to stand ten.or more feet above the normal viewing areas was surreal. Highly recommend going up in the snow. Take an extra 30 bucks for the pass tho...

Crater Lake National Park is beautiful. The day I went to there with my family was a little crowded, but I suspect it probably gets worse on the weekend and around holidays. It is unfortunate that the Park Service has had to reduce staff at National Parks. I feel for the struggles this causes in maintaining, securing, and supporting the parks. There is a lot of parking, but it was almost all full when we were there. This particular park will be having a lot of renovation over the next few years until 2029 so we wanted to go before it got even more complicated.
Loretta R — Google review
Beautiful and unique place. When we arrived the foggy weather blocked our view of the lake. Important to note that even if the clouds are low it doesn't mean the whole lake is covered. We continued to drive and eventually found a great spot with perfect view.
Achiad H — Google review
Not easy to find. It has a sign of park store but I didn’t see any sign of visitor center. It feels like the parking is competitive at the beginning when you enter rim village but it has more parking space inside. It has shades and rest area beside the visitor center and water fountains at the other side. Overall, I would give 5 stars.

Crater Lake is a beautiful place to visit in Summer. But with a pet dog, it’s not a good choice to arrange the visit. We could only visit the paved area around Rim Village visitor center. Next time, hope we could return here in Winter to explore a different sightseeing of snow covered Crater Lake.
Steven W — Google review
Amazing views of the lake from Rim Village. There is a overlook semi enclosed a short walk down from the main walkway along the rim. Great info plaques and views there.
Chris D — Google review
A couple of helpful staff members inside answered questions about trails and whether we could get an official Crater Lake brochure. If you are curious, the funding to print those no longer exists. The other bummer about this visitor center is they were out of the artistic postcard featuring Crater Lake and only had ones with a guy on a bicycle. Annie's Creek gift shop had the good one.

Small visitor center with your usual visitor center items and stamps! Park rangers were friendly and amazing view points right outside the center. If it’s crowded it is tough to look around as it’s a small center.

Wooded area & river for hiking, fishing & picnics, tent & RV sites, a horse camp & a logging museum.
For those that follow me on social media, you know I spend lots of time in the Pacific Northwest, especially Oregon. And when we venture into the Bend Oregon area we inevitably drive right past Colliers Memorial State Park. Based on other reviews, I’ve not taken full advantage of the amenities at this location as I haven’t camped or kayaked or even visited the logging museum. But this is a great place to stop for a bathroom break and to let the dog stretch his legs before a long 100 mile stretch into Bend. It’s a beautiful spot. Try it out the next time you come through. Collier Memorial State Park is the definition of calm and peaceful—a true little slice of nature’s serenity. Whether you’re looking to stretch your legs, enjoy some fresh air, or just slow down for a while, this park delivers in the most beautiful way. It’s dog-friendly (pups on leashes, of course), so the whole family can enjoy a day out together. Speaking of family, the park is very kid-friendly too, with a nice playground to keep the little ones entertained and a picnic area perfect for lunch under the trees. Surrounded by nature in every direction, the walking paths here are an easy stroll for all ages—no intense hiking boots required. Just bring your favorite people, your four-legged friend, and maybe a picnic basket, and you’re set for a perfect day at Collier Memorial State Park.

Learning center offering hands-on science, nature & play exhibits for kids, infants & toddlers.
There is a wide variety of thoughtful activity stations. My 6 yo loves the games projected on the floor and my 4 yo loves the jet plane and the fire truck. Kids can play doctor, dentist, grocery shop, go to hair salon, and more. Lots of places for caregivers to comfortably presence with their littles. There are large rooms in the lower level available to rent for parties. Staff is incredibly nice and constantly cleaning. As with any place like this, we just have our kids wash their hands as we leave and illness hasn’t been a problem.

This museum is unpretentious and welcoming. There are a surprising number of activities and exhibits packed into a small space, and the volunteers clearly care deeply about the place. My 6 and 3 year old spent over 2 hours here and still hadn't tried all the activities. Even I had fun doing the puzzles and trying the exhibits!

This is a great little kids museum with free coffee. We brought 4 boys aged 5 to 12, and they enjoyed themselves. The rummage sale area was very affordable and had a nice variety of crafts. I definitely would recommend this place for parents.

Had my nieces birthday there, paid $75 for the “private room” but staff was in and out of the room during the party and even was observed opening all our pizzas before our guests arrived. The staff also touched and moved personal items without asking or informing anyone that stuff had been moved. We understood that it would be a discounted price of $4 per person for the use of the toys/ exhibits, when I had a question about being charged for people who didn’t even go upstairs and just came for cake, we were told that it was a $4 fee to enter the building in addition to the $75 for the room regardless of if they only went to the party room and not to play and that was not made clear and doesn’t make sense since we paid for the room. I approached the old lady at the front very kindly about my question and she was immediately abrasive, rude, and argumentative. The exhibits are ok. The place is also 1/2 thrift shop with random old clothes for sale and random toys for sale which is confusing for kids when it’s next to a play area. Overall 2/10 because the room was nice but would not recommend and will not go back. The old lady who runs the front desk was so rude and to charge for entering the building when we paid for the room is crazy and to touch personal belongings is not ok! EDIT: this is a nonprofit organization supposed to be to help people yet the owner instead of taking responsibility because she (the old lady) was seen touching our stuff and she pinned it on a different staff member.

Had my daughters birthday party there. The museum part is really fun, especially built for kids about 5-12. The room where the birthday party was great. There was a bluetooth speaker for music, and they set everything up before hand and cleaned up after us. Very enjoyable experience and reasonably priced.

Cute Little children's museum. Small little crawler area on the first floor and the second floor is a large space with maybe six to eight different rooms all with different themes. Post office, dentist, fire station. Hours are currently 10:00 to 1:00 and we easily stayed the whole time. Plenty of tables for parents in the middle of the upstairs portion.
Jon D — Google review
Lots for kids to do, my little one is 7 and had a blast, especially with the airplane and control tower. The staff was great, they were all walking around showing people different things, when we got there, the lady that checked us in took or picture in a really cool shadow room! We were from out of town and it was a great stop on the way.

I recently had my 4 year old son's birthday party here. It was the first time we have ever visited. We booked it as a private event, but it would've been fine during business hours as well. The booking was for a 2.5 hours and it was affordable, especially with all of the accommodations you get! We rented one room and had over 30 guests. It was the perfect size. Our guests varied in age from babies to teenagers and they all had fun. The staff, especially Crystal, were so kind and helpful. I'll be taking my kids there to visit, and will probably throw another party at some point too. Highly recommend this gem!

This is a great park with a massive playground and play structure. There is adaptive equipment and a separate play structure/area for toddlers. If you are in the Klamath Falls area, and you have children, you need to check this place out.

They have really have done a lot to this park. Did you know there are like a lot of bike trails and such!? They also did a massive playground rebuild that makes it handicap friendly!

I walk the back trails on Upper Moore Park almost daily and it feels like a new experience everytime. There are miles and miles of trails I have STILL to explore, and every season brings new delights.

After dinner, we strolled to the shore of Upper Klamath Lake, where the setting sun painted the waters in shades of gold, crimson, and violet. The surface mirrored the silhouettes of distant mountains, leaving nothing but serenity and grandeur between heaven and earth.

My family and I absolutely LOVE this park! Paved trails for miles!! But also plenty of "off road" trails for more peace... Beautiful!! Bathroom is closed but they do have open portable bathrooms.

Large recreation area in Klamath Falls, there are lots of parking spaces at the lake front. You can find a quiet space for yourself in this place to enjoy the breeze, sound of the wave, ducks swimming and seagulls flying. Highly recommend to come here at dusk, the color is so beautiful!

Favell Museum

Museum
Art gallery
Museum of Native American artifacts & items from other indigenous groups, along with Western art.
Great museum, possibly underrated. Has a great little firearm collection, displays tell stories of indigenous tribes’s history and culture and more. Only on 1 floor, I think a art gallery is on the floor above.
Rustee — Google review
Very interesting collection of Native American art and artifacts plus local art. Attractive building, good layout for displays. Some stairs, not sure about accessibility. Entrance fee somewhat higher than expected, but not easy to maintain this quality of place. Displays could be reduced with fewer examples, just present best representation and perhaps rotate displays. Recommended for a good representation of Native American art, some of the best I've seen.

I drove to Klamath Falls to view the huge collection of Native American artifacts from the America's. The arrowheads and points collection includes the Clovis Points that dated back 13,500 years. The pottery collections are also very old and includes a number of tribes such as the Zuni and Anasazi. You find exhibits on the Couger Mountain and Nicolarsen Caves artifacts that date back to more then 12,000 years. The local tribes of the Nortwest include face masks from the Coastal areas, tools, and necklaces. Photos are not allowed to taken in the exhibit area. Located on West Main Street across the river from downtown Klamath Falls. A great place to spend the day viewing Western Art from artists such as C. M. Russell, a great miniature gun collection, Inca Textiles, and the huge Native American collection.

Wow, this museum is great. Tons of one of a kind artifacts. The staff is great and friendly. It's a little spendy but well worth it. If you can only go to one museum go to this one.

Very nice place to know more about Indian culture and their past, as well as Indian art gallery. Zach who works there is a nice guy who is willing to answer your question. Recommend highly to those ppl who are interested in history.

This is a gem. A wealth of high quality items beautifully displayed. If you are cool to museums, you'll easily spend an hour without boredom. If you love history, paintings, ancient technology, cultural artifacts, sculpture, ... they'll have to pitch you out when they close. Admission (2023): $10, or $9 for kids, seniors, veterans. Plentiful free parking. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended.

I visited Favell in 1991 and 1992. Not sure of dates. Many years ago. Was wonderful!! My most memorable memory was of the tiny gun collection. And the ancient arrowheads. The entire museum is extraordinary!! And I have visited many museums, in different states. I purchased a tall, gorgeous, SOUTHWESTERN style, color, vase. Glad you are still open for each new generation to appreciate.
Judy M — Google review
WOW! Even after reading the great reviews here, I was still blown away. There must have been at least a thousand different arrowheads. And so much more to see. Native American artifacts from Alaska to Peru. US western artifacts. And art (both old & new) of the above. Expect to take about 2 hours to see everything. Would love it if they offered guided tours. I had so many questions. I will go again if I'm in the area.

Tule Lake Relocation Center

Monument
Sights & Landmarks
One-time detention camp for Japanese Americans held during WWII, now with ranger-led guided tours.
This site is only open 3 days per week and by appointment. Can’t speak to the exhibit itself but this is a chilling reminder of how hysteria can turn into evil.
Kevin A — Google review
This is a heart-breaking place. The largest of the 10 concentration camps in the US during World War 2. it was approximately 7000 acres and held nearly 20,000 Japanese-Americans that broke no laws but answered "incorrectly" on a skewed questionnaire.
Lehnanne K — Google review
The trailer office was closed before the 4:30pm stated time. There was very little available information posted on the windows, no placards, only little metal sculptures about 18 inches tall with the names of all the relocation camps stuck in the white gravel incredibly in front of the trailer. There were a couple of buildings, we weren't sure what that were. For such a historically significant location, hopefully they will make it more memorable so history does not repeat itself.
Colleen S — Google review
The tour was very informative and they had pictures and letters and experiences for us to look at. The jail is preserved. The museum had original artifacts and a barrack to look at!
Yumiko N — Google review
Small for a national monument, with few buildings, but the jail is worth visiting and the tour is informative.

A story that must be repeated over and over, so we never do that to American citizens again.

Fascinating and well built out road side museuem. A must see for those passing through. It shines a spotlight on a dark side of the nation's history and xenophobia that echoes through to the present. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Lava Beds National Monument

Monument
Nature & Parks
National Parks
Desert wilderness park with volcanic features, 700+ caves, Native American rock art & campsites.
Off the beaten path but pairs nicely with a visit to Shasta, Lassen or Crater Lake. 100% worth the drive through the lava fields and grassland to the visitor center and biggest concentration of lava tubs / caves. Get the background, maps, tips and any equipment from the visitors center. Start with the only lit Cave to understand what you’re seeing then head out and explore the other caves on your own — options range from easily walkable to needing to crawl and working around dead ends and 40 degree temps. Don’t be intimidated, there is something for every ability level here and it’s probably not like anything else you’ve done before!
Eric S — Google review
Absolutely incredible place! We were driving from Lassen up to Crater Lake, so took the chance on this park. We planned ahead and brought our own headlamp style flashlights for the caves, which worked perfectly and are necessary as only one of them has lighting. We got our permit and then walked to Mushpot Cave which is accessible by a sidewalk from the visitor center. This was a fun cave to go into but it is developed with stairs, paved walkway, and lighting- perfect for my parents who are pushing 80. We drove our car around the loop stopping at a viewpoint or two and then hiked down into Sentinal Cave, out and back to the same parking area. Excellent cave for a family. We stopped at Skull Cave on our way north which was neat and had an ice floor with icicles, even in August. There is no food available in the park, other than some snacks, so be sure to pack your own lunch.
Michael Y — Google review
The information centers main office was closed, but the bathrooms at the main parking lot were open. Mid October some cave access begins to close till April. We were able to enter mushpot cave which is lit up and easy walking. Skull cave and the ice cave were probably my favorite. We visited the caves with easy access and not too far off the main road. Plenty of parking at most trail heads.
Brian S — Google review
We spent two days exploring a trail, and we got a wilderness permit so we were able to camp off trail. The fire was pretty devastating and we spent around 4 hours going through dead woods which was very spooky. We started at kings falls and the decline was manageable down to devils kitchen, but the climb back up was pretty challenging with a large pack. We will definitely drop weight next time. Water was available at the camp site, which was enough. We brought 3 liters each. Be cautious of dead standers.
Isaac R — Google review
Very interesting place to explore with family! Don’t forget to visit the center for map and valuable information or guidance. $25 for a vehicle for 7 days’ free admission. Don’t forget to clean your shoes through the machine in front of the center entrance to avoid any bacteria from the caves. Highly recommended for flashlight and helmet if you are planning to explore more caves with different difficulties. We are the beginners for such experiences, so the Mushpot cave and Sentimel cave (lower & upper sentinel cave) are recommended for those who are the first time to visit here, and family with kids or seniors. Bring your water and watch out the ceiling above your head. Highly recommended here!

This is definite stop we are glad we made. The 360 views of the night sky from the indian wells campground are amazing! Restrooms are clean and so many lava tubes to explore. Inside some of the lava tubes are incredible. Will be coming again because we did not see everything!
Jessie K — Google review
I love that you can explore so many caves especially in one area and they don't close them which allowed me to get down there and go through 15 in one day. Pretty cool place and will return someday. I'd like to bring my son and my knee pads. Gift shop closed at 4 not 430 as I was told. Couldn't get any gifts as I got there at 401.
Jeffrey M — Google review
We have been here twice. Once as a couple and once with our grandson. We absolutely love it! We are planning another trip to take both grandsons. Nice paved, lighted cave for an easier trek. Many other caves left natural to explore as much or as little as you desire. All within a reasonable walking distance.

Made a stop because we needed a driving break and the closest rest stop was closed. This park is awesome. We had a great walk in a nicely paved and gravel path. The wildlife was beautiful and the fall air was crisp. Bathrooms are clean.

Nice park with wildlife, blackberries and a reservoir. Loop around reservoir about 1 mile. 1/2 shade 1/2 sun. Arrive early in summer to avoid heat. Has playground and picnic area. Best park I’ve found in area.

Very nice walk. The parks themselves were very green and clean cut. We walked in the morning and there were quite a lot of gnats but nothing too serious and it was still a very enjoyable place to walk and talk or run or bike.

Very nice park. It has a nice lake to fish in. Don't forget, July 2nd is free fishing day mark your calendars. Nice restrooms, picnic tables, gazebo with picnic tables. Trails and paved paths to walk. There are many forms of wildlife; squirrels, birds, seagulls, Canadian geese and goslins, and I saw one deer. There is also slides and a climbing area for children. I saw one goose that looked like it had a broken wing or two. Always keep pets on a leash so they don't injure wildlife. I hope someone can help the poor goose. He can't fly or hardly walk. I think dogs should be banned from this park.

We stopped at Yreka and had some time in the evening so found this via AllTrails. This place is a hidden gem. Parking lot was huge. There are many trails here but we just did the reservoir loop. Plenty of deer, Canada geese and other birds were easily seen. There is also a miners trail which has old mining equipment from the gold rush. The wood bridge on one side of reservoir was also neat. We spent an hour here.

Great little park in Yreka. I wish the county had more of these that were so accessible. Only thing I could say is that it would be great if they could update the signage for the trails because some trails have it, some don't, and you can go on for ages in the wrong direction trying to get back down on an actual trail to the parking lot.

We went in with a kinda wide car! The road was cool but a little narrow for our truck. Don't want scratches! We loved the sculptures we saw. The thought behind it was great. We totally support our troops and what they went thru for us. It was a great symbol to honor those that served!

Today I flew over Mt Shasta while travelling from Sacramento to Portland by Alaska Airline. Mt Shasta is one of the 7 holy mountains of the world. 26000 came to visit it last year. It has a power CC and presence that is exceptional and palpable. Indigenous peoples have called it the center of our universe.

The views are amazing! We weren’t even planning to climb that high, but it was so much fun and our dog loved it, and the climb wasn’t even that hard, but it was definitely worth it! Unfortunately we couldn’t hike higher because of our doggy :( so be aware of it. The weather was perfect, it was sunny but not hot because the snow was keeping us cool. But we didn’t expect that much snow in May. Still was a lot of fun!

Mt. Shasta Summit: A Challenging but Rewarding Adventure On July 4th, 2023 my friends and I had the incredible opportunity to climb Mt. Shasta via the Avalanche Gulch Route. We stayed at an Airbnb in Redding, CA, about 1.5 hours from the trail. We left the Airbnb at 12:30 AM and arrived at the trail at 2 AM. We took the Avalanche Gulch Route, which is a 17.5-mile round trip with an elevation gain of 7,200 feet. It took us approximately 13.5 hours to complete the climb. We began the climb at 2AM and stopped around 6AM to view the morning alpenglow at Helen Lake (10,550ft). During this time, the trail was almost entirely snow covered, except for the scree field we encountered on Misery Hill (13,800ft). We used a combination of trekking poles and spikes on the ascent. Due to the steep conditions at that time, an ice axe was needed for the last 300+ feet to the summit. The hike was challenging, but the panoramic view from the summit was absolutely breathtaking. Given the snow conditions in July 2023, we were able to glissade for several thousand feet down the mountain, significantly easing the descent. If you're looking for a challenging but rewarding adventure, I highly recommend climbing Mt. Shasta. Just be prepared for the physical demands and plan accordingly. Key details: Route: Avalanche Gulch Total trip distance: 17.5 miles Start time: 2 AM Summit time: 11:30 AM Finish time: 3:30 PM Total trip time: 13.5 hours

Lake Siskiyou

Bodies of Water
Lake Siskiyou is a man-made 430-acre lake surrounded by the stunning scenery of Mount Shasta. It features a 7-mile trail and is a popular destination for water sports. There are various camping options around the area, including Panther Meadows, which offers a tranquil and placid setting ideal for camping and meditation. The lake provides opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming, with public beaches and private campgrounds available. Visitors can also rent pontoon boats to explore the lake.
Walked the 7-mile trail around the lake last weekend in June. It's well-marked, well-worn, and easy to follow. Beautiful views the entire way. There are restrooms spaced out along the trail every couple miles or so, wherever you find a parking lot. There are a couple of exposed sections, but for the most part, it is well-shaded.

The south side area we'd planned to go to was closed for some hazard they were fixing, so we went around to a camping/pull out area on the east side. You couldn't see the reflection of the mountain, but it was still very peaceful and pretty. The parking lot had bathrooms.

Alejandro C — Google review
Really nice 7 mile, easy to hike trail that encompasses the lake. Lots of beautiful scenery to see…with the snow covered Mount Shasta off to the east being our favorite. The only issue currently is on the far western side of the lake. Heavy water flows has made the normal crossing area inaccessible and you’ll have to turn back. If you are a little more adventurous, you can follow the side trail west a little further. There you will find a large fallen tree that can be used to cross the water. I don’t recommend it though if you’re not sure on your feet.
Robert S — Google review
I have been camping and living right by or near this Lake for well over a decade. There's a great trail that goes all the way around the lake, boat access public beaches private campgrounds apparently good fishing because there's always people there fishing. The campground also rents pontoon boats. There are public outhouses that are maintained fairly well in multiple locations as well as parking and there's a Frisbee golf course right next to it. Every 4th of July this is where they do the fireworks and lots of friendly people can be found walking or biking the trail at all times. There are some picnic table areas and lots of hidden spots to set up your own little private Beach area. It is also very popular with ducks and seagulls. Deer can be regularly seen here as well as tons of squirrels.

Hedge Creek Falls

Scenic spot
Nature & Parks
Small waterfall, accessible via a gentle trail, with a path leading behind the cascade at its base.
Nice little waterfall right off of hwy 5 heading to Redding or Weed. Short walk to falls, not a bad hike to Sacramento river a bit further down. Beautiful swim hole when you get down there 😁
Rick J — Google review
This is a easy to find waterfall with only a short walk from the parking area to the falls. There is easy access off of highway 5. There are a limited number of parking spots. But people don't generally stay too long. So, there's usually a spot that will open up. There's a nice little picnic area at the beginning of the trail. And it's not even 1/4 mile from there to the falls. The neat feature of this waterfall is that you can walk behind it. The trail continues on past the falls as Hedge Creek flows to the Sacramento River.

2nd time here. Just as beautiful. Leaves are starting to change so it was extra special. A short downhill winding walk to the falls. You get to walk right behind the falls. That does also mean there is a winding uphill walk to the parking lot. It's not terrible though. In my opinion it's worth it.

Such a cool little hidden gem! Hedge Creek Falls is a quick and easy hike with a fun reward, you can actually walk behind the waterfall! It’s a peaceful spot with great shade, perfect for a short break if you’re driving along I-5 near Dunsmuir. The trail is family-friendly, and the sound of the falls echoing off the rocks makes it feel like a secret forest escape. Definitely worth a stop!

It was beautiful especially last weekend with a lot of water gushing downhill. You have beautifully carved pathway that takes you behind the falls. Watch out for small reptiles around. Lesser crowds at the beginning of May. Parking is limited and needs to hike a bit to get to the falls. You can hike all the way to the river if you would like, along the same trail.

I enjoyed my short visit, and the view fron the Vista Point trail. This dirt trail is very short and easy. Best to go on a clear day. There are about 20 parking places at the Vista Point trailhead after a one mile drive up a very narrow road.
Jeffery H — Google review
Lots of variety on this trail. Just as you get tired of the forest, you get a climb of a rocky pathway and then a sunny flat spot to chill at the end. Yes, it's hard but well worth it. Took me 4.5 hours. Very peaceful and outstanding mountaintop views.
Jonathan S — Google review
A fun hike to the top! Keep in mind this is all uphill one way and all downhill the other, so it’s more than just a stroll. But wow, what a great hike! A few downed trees were on the trail and there was some rock scrambling as you get closer to the top, but all are doable. It’s amazing to be able to see the dome and Mt. Shasta at the same time. Great day!

A hidden gem. This hike offers amazing views of the Crags, Mt Shasta and the general horizon. Slope of the trail cam get slightly steep, but with hiking poles, the hike was very doable. Although, we didn't hike to the very top due to time constraints, we got far enough to feel accomplished. Trail is well marked and easy to navigate.

Usually, because I'm cheap, at least for myself, I avoid parks with fees, but this was well worth the $8. Unbelievably cool hike to Castle Crag - nice quick vertical to the top. Great trails. We took the Vista Point and Castle Crags trail. The first one was quite easy for everyone to do it. The second one was invredible. There are some difficulties but doable. It is quite steep in certain areas and you are all the goind up. Close to the end it gets harder. The view is incredible beautiful.

We never went into the park but was able to drive around and get some cool pictures of the granite peaks. This is a very unique and interesting place.

Great trip! The view from the vista point is great. Missed the seasonal waterfall, so we'll have to be back. Rangers were friendly and helpful, though their idea of easy differs from mine. They recommended the Indian Creek Nature Loop. Much together than expected though the creek and bridges were as advertised and made the hike worth it. It was my wife's first encounter with a rattlesnake in the wild desire or interest in the great outdoors. It should be noted, my wife was recovering from surgery and me from a tree limb falling on me, so we were not up to par at the time.

Lake Shasta Caverns National Natural Landmark

Scenic spot

Stalactite- & stalagmite-filled caves accessed by tours that include a boat ride on a scenic lake.
Great place to go if you're on an adventure. It's roughly two hours including the boat ride for the tour. I arrived just in time before the boat departure on a weekday. So luckily I didn't have to wait long. I would purchase tickets ahead of time if you've scheduled out plans. It's open all year long.

It was 96 degrees Fahrenheit outside today, and the caverns were like a nice 70 degree room with AC. No jackets needed. On the bus ride up, sit on the right side to see the lake view. The ferry rides and the tour were enjoyable. There are many slopes and stairs, and the staff are friendly and assistive. Highly recommended!

One of our quest to visit all beauties of California is exploring Lake Shasta Caverns. We went to see the McCloud 3 Falls then stopped by here to see the cave. The lake is beautiful, the boat ride is refreshing. Walking to the bus ride is tiring due to up hill climb from the dock, but the ride is scary and exciting looking down the steep slope to the lake. All the buses trying to go up and down the one way road quite amazing. The bus driver is extremely humorous and pleasant. Inside the cave, we had a narrator to explain the history of the cave and how they're forming which is quite informative and eye opening. More stairs to climb, tiring but there are so much to see. Each floor and sections have different scenery. The lighting makes each cave look lively and exotic. Although there are quite a lot of climbing and walking but we had enjoyed it tremendously. On the way out, we could see the views of the lake so beautiful. It's quite a feast for the eyes. We loved it. It's time for another one.

Well planned tour. Morning rides are less crowded. Nice gift shop at the beginning. Friendly folks. Rich history. Buy the tickets in advance.

Such a great tour! All of the people were friendly and knowledgeable, from the welcome center to the boat, bus and cave tour guide. The cave is amazing and the history that comes with it is very interesting. There are a lot of stairs, but they do give an early exit option for those who need it.

A fun tour at a very reasonable price. The caverns are impressive and the whole crew from the gift shop, boat operators shuttle drivers and tour guides did a great job.

The light show inside the caverns was spectacular. The staff were excellent and very helpful. Parking was easy, and the experience included a scenic boat ride across the lake followed by a bus ride to the caverns. Plan to spend around 2 to 3 hours for the entire activity.
