Nature & Parks
Owen Rose Garden is a stunning 8.5-acre park located near the Willamette River and the Washington Jefferson Street Bridge in Eugene. It boasts over 4,500 rose bushes representing more than 400 varieties, making it a true gem of the city. The garden also features the impressive 49-foot-tall Oregon Heritage Cherry Tree, believed to be one of the oldest of its kind in the country.
I LOVE this rose garden I try to go as much as possible. It smells like if you are standing and walking inside of a perfume bottle with many different rose blends and other flower notes to give the roses more depth also the smell of the flowers is perfect and not overwhelming. This is 100% worth seeing and checking out if you are making a trip to Eugene Oregon. Owen's rose garden is perfect for photos and getting your photo taken for grad students and weddings or any other event you need photos. I saw grad students taking photos, photographers of many kinds taking photos of the flowers, people walking there dogs, and many other lovely groups of people enjoying the roses with everyone. Very uplifting and positive to bring your mood up. I really want to keep coming back to this place as much as possible.

Nice quiet stroll through the well kept garden. Lots of different flowers, not just roses. Family atmosphere, little paths leading to more flowers, memorial benches for resting in the shade. Cute park, really enjoyed it.

This may have been my favorite stop when I visited my brother's family in Eugene, Oregon. It was just beautiful and such a lovely, easily accessible spot to wander around outside for an hour or two. I highly recommend visiting if you haven't yet - and if you have - go again!
SarahBeth C — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful rose gardens I've ever been to, and I mean, ever the layout was perfect and so many quality roses to see and read the descriptions and see the trees and the pagodas and it was all very well laid out. The bathroom was disgusting. There was poop on the rim of the toilet and it was very unappealing. There were many bike riders out when I went and so i'm glad it has a good accessibility
Jacob S — Google review
When the roses are in full bloom, it's really something else. The varieties are listed in front of the beds they're planted in. Pictures are allowed but it's asked that you stay out of the dirt. Nice flat walking paths with benches. Close proximity to the Willamette River path. There were porta potties on site when we visited for the Symphony in the Park. Plenty of parking.
Jennifer U — Google review
Amazing flower garden and completely free. Bring the whole family. This is not to be missed. They're even open late till 11:00 p.m. But come during daylight for some phenomenal photos.
David A — Google review
It’s absolutely beautiful right now (June) because everything is blooming and smells so good!! This is a real gem of a park for Eugene. We saw people taking graduation photos, and there is a gazebo for weddings and events.
Corinna L — Google review
Beautiful park, with 12 miles of trails and ponds along the river. Along the trail are all the planets on display, with insightful information. Just watch out for the bicycle riders.

Market
Eugene Saturday Market's Holiday Market is a long-standing craft market that has been around since 1970. It takes place in a park and features over 200 local artisans, food vendors, live music, and an international food court. The market is not just a commercial enterprise but also serves as a social gathering where visitors can spend the day browsing unique wares, enjoying live music, and sampling international cuisine.
Just moved to the area from Phoenix and wanted to see something local and I definitely was not disappointed! First off finding parking did take a minute and it was $1.35 for an hour. However an hour was perfect timing to eat and see all the booths. All the food trucks are in one central area that made it convenient and there was a huge variety of food. I ended up getting a chocolate strawberry crepe and black cold brew and it was 5/5. The layout is a nice walk. If you were at an intersection there are booths on all 4 corners of the street. There's a huge blend of art, local crafts, fruits and veggies, flowers, honey, meat, ect. I will definitely be back.
Breana B — Google review
I am not from this area. I thought this was wonderful! There was so many venders. Plenty of bathrooms. So many friendly people!! And the produce was beautiful. Highly recommend if you live there or if you’re just visiting!
Kim B — Google review
A must go-to experience in Eugene. So many artists in one place and none of it is resell. It's all made by the artisan that is selling. Plus live music and good food. It's also right next to the Farmer's market and the Free Speech Plaza where there is the drum circle and people sell stuff too. So there's lots to do in one place.
Sarah B — Google review
We love this event because there are so many exciting booths with truly talented artists and the people-watching is so much fun too. We love the live music and the beautiful fountain as well. Been coming here for years when we are in town.
Roanne G — Google review
Eugene Saturday Market is like a farmers market, art fair, and block party had a baby. Great food, cool people, and the best people-watching in town.

An essential Eugene experience. If you come to Eugene and don't go are you even really visiting? Give your money to local growers and artisans instead of big box stores AND have the pleasure of seeing and smelling everything that the culture here has to offer.

One of the biggest and best markets I’ve been to. Wish I lived locally so I could go there for produce every week! Best looking produce I’ve seen! Lots of goods and goodies from a large variety of vendors. I had the best vegetarian empanada. So yummy! 😋 Love this place!!

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nestled in the scenic Hult City Park, just a short drive from Eugene, Oregon, the Cascades Raptor Center is a nature haven and wildlife hospital. Since its establishment in 1987, this center has been dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating raptors. With nearly 50 birds of prey housed in expansive outdoor aviaries, it offers an up-close encounter with these majestic creatures.
Beautiful place to go! The birds are absolutely gorgeous. Little bit of a walk, though. Lots of information on each animal. Cute gift shop at the end. The staff was very friendly and helpful to answer any questions.
Cece H — Google review
The Raptor Center was an unexpected stop on a road trip, and ended up being a highlight of the trip. The center is very well maintained, and it's obvious that the staff genuinely care for the birds. All of the employees seemed to be having a good time, and they were very friendly and helpful. The facility was in good working order, and the enclosures offer visitors a good look at the birds, but also some privacy for the animals. There was a surprising variety of exhibits. The paths (and entire center) are on a steep hill, so those with mobility or balance issues might want to take a close look before committing to a trip. The prices were a little high, but it was worth it at least once. (Only true raptor aficionados are likely to return again.) Definitely recommend for visitors in the area!
David — Google review
This was a wonderful stop for anyone and everyone. The center itself is small and quaint. The birds are well taken care off and cute. You can tell that the staff really cares about them from how content the birds are and how clean everything is. The snowy owl was adorable and I loved the little notes they have about the name and story of each bird. It makes you feel connected to the animal. We went there at noon on Labor Day weekend and it was not busy at all. It is a nice stop to make and spend an hour or two learning about the birds especially since you can see them really up close. There are bathrooms and parking spots.
Mazal S — Google review
I have more photos, this is a great place to go for a hike to see some really beautiful birds. But I don't think it's a good place for kids under 8, or elderly and disabled people. It's built into the hillside in a way that is not wheelchair accessible. I'm not sure if there's a way to fix that. The outdoor classroom is probably the only place I would be able to get to safely from the parking lot in my hospital style wheelchair.
Emerald H — Google review
Highly recommended to adults and kids. Staff is on hand to help answer any questions. The area is large with a lot of different types of birds. There are signs that tell you about individual birds, how they came to be in the the raptor center, and about the species. All birds are available for sponsorship. There is a small store where you can purchase items to support the work that the raptor center does. There is a hospital on scene which the public is not allowed to go into. While we were there, staff was giving a tutorial about different feathers for birds. And there was even a doctor walking around checking on the individual birds. Very small parking lot only accommodates 12 vehicles. There are bathrooms on hand which are outhouses. Entry fee is well worth the cost of admission at $13. It is quite hilly so make sure you are comfortable shoes and it is all dirt. No concrete.
Brie B — Google review
First time visit! Really enjoyed seeing all the different birds and even some really close LoL! The short show put on by the staff with the birds was amazing!
S W — Google review
Very cool center located amidst calm and quiet nature! I was pleased by how many exhibits they had (probably around 30) and it was great to see so many birds!
Quinton W — Google review
Awesome experience for me and my two toddlers! They let my 5 year old daughter catch a falcon! All staff was extremely helpful and friendly! Cool variety of birds! This place earned a spot in my heart today!!! Go during one of their demonstrations, you won’t regret it!

Beautiful campus. Love all the greens and flowers, the cherry blossoms, 🌸 Sakura are blooming outside of the library, so beautiful! Big open area with lots of interesting buildings and elegant architectures. Walking here I definitely a pleasure.
Lila C — Google review
So far mystery fees, and hiding what rooms look like till the day you move into a 8x10 brick closet hasnt been an enjoyable experience. The amount of money they spent on campus silverware and player facilities does not translate to dorm room size. They hid the size of the rooms for sure to move-in day. Boo ducks.

This place has been a part of my life from beginning to end. My Dad was Premed. He and my Mom lived in the Married Student Housing on Agate St. Where I lived after I was born into this world. Over the years family and friends, acquaintances, Marlboro Men and Martians have attended this august, wet, center of learnin' and THE ARTS. After having traveled the country and sundry other back roads - Here I Am. Again. I live a block from The Pioneer Cemetery. So, Campus.

This is a phenomenal campus. Taking our daughter to her #1 pick and accepted school 🫨🎉. The orientation was incredibly well done and went smoothly and was incredibly informative.
Cassandra P — Google review
Beautiful campus, especially in the spring when the rain and the overcast skies make the colors explode with vibrancy. There are so many buildings to explore, but even if you stay outside the whole time, you won’t be disappointed.

The campus is fabulous featuring exciting architecture, green spaces and art. It is being sproued up and readied for a 2022 World Athletic Games. Hayward Field is a historic track and field stadium located on the University of Oregon campus. It is home to the Oregon Ducks and hosts the annual Prefontaine Classic, making it a legendary venue in the world of track and field. The stadium has undergone recent renovations, offering state-of-the-art facilities for thousands of sports fans to enjoy unobstructed views, impressive acoustics, and spacious seating.
Very beautiful facility. It was a pleasure to have gone to a track and field meet there. There were concessions for the Nike Outdoor National event. I don't know if they have it for every event there, but if they do it is awesome. Parking is scarce. Many places around the facility where you can easily get a parking ticket. There is paid parking, but again, it is limited.
The M — Google review
One of the BEST track and field facilities in the country. Phenomenal for competing and spectating. It's really easy to find housing nearby. I mean tracktown, who doesn't like it? It's iconic
Joronda M — Google review
A true living monument to the greatest sport. A stadium that loves its athletes and its fans. The seats in all the sections were cushioned, not a bad seat in the whole stadium. The screens had incredible colors, and the entire space was so ergonomic.
Maria C — Google review
Beautiful and breathtaking to be here!!! Seats are comfy, plenty of bathrooms, and there are water bottle refill stations. Bring your sun screen, but there are shady areas too.
Heather A — Google review
The free museum was a sensational find! Worth the jockeying of our activities to work into their limited hours. Even the non runners in the family were fascinated by the innovations of the 3 Bills who were legendary coaches, and back stories of athletes we watched at past Olympics. Visitors are not allowed on the track, but a photo booth provided us with laughs and a virtual visual keepsake (although the text to phone option did not work. Only those of us who had the image emailed received it)
Living B — Google review
One of our favorite places to be. Very affordable tickets for the caliber of experience. Comfortable cushioned seats & not a bad one in the house. Plenty of concessions (with the stadium pricing to match $$$, but that is to be expected). Massive screens, upbeat music & pretty solid announcers. We’ve attended everything from Oregon high school state meets to Worlds back in 2022. The only thing missing is parking. Please give us a parking garage. Please.
Myah C — Google review
Its such an iconic place. So Inspiring to know that so many great athletes have been there. Seeing the grounds was cool.
Amber B — Google review
No doubt, this is the very best track venue in the country. The Prefontaine Classic is world class...with two world records to see this year. A must see place and venue.

Went on a Sunday afternoon. It got busy but we were able to get a table outside. What a wonderful place! The scenery is lovely with the free range chickens and horses/ goats in the background. Absolutely beautiful space. I had a mixed wine flight that was perfectly balanced. I also had the broccoli and brie pizza which was very good but could have been cooked just a tad longer. Overall, I’d definitely come back. Also pet friendly!
Elizabeth R — Google review
Always a lovely time at Saginaw Vineyards. I love that you can bring your own food and they have the beverages covered. Springtime means baby animals on the farm. Music on Fridays and brunch on Sunday are my faves. Wine slushies on a hot day are always a winner. Staff is friendly and the owners are great! Conveniently located right of the freeway, this place is a gem. I love how quiet and relaxing it is! 🍷
Tiffanie W — Google review
Absolutely beautiful venue and great service! The wine was delicious and the playful sheep and adorable Blue Heeler pup was fun to watch as he learned herding. We stayed the night through Harvest Host and it was such a great time. Anyone passing through I would highly recommend stopping to experience the charming Saginaw Vineyard.
Justin B — Google review
Last night we posted up at Saginaw Vineyard—our favorite little wine-sipping, music-playing, red-barn dreamscape in the Willamette Valley. The hills were rolling, the wine was flowing, and the company? Top shelf. We spent the evening soaking up every last drop of Central Oregon charm. There were animals. There was music. There may have been a tipsy twirl or two. Ten out of ten, would frolic again.
William B — Google review
We stopped on the spur of the moment because we saw an advertisement on the interstate. It’s a lovely place. They do not do flights, so my husband, daughter and I got different glasses so we could have a taste of different wines. We especially loved the rosé and pinot noir. If we didn’t have to fly home, we would have bought bottles to take with us.
Jeanne C — Google review
Great food and wine, relaxed setting with friendly wildlife. A great way to spend an evening.

We visit during summers when visiting family who are members. Beautiful vineyard, tasty wines, and local live entertainment.

Cute little winery right off of I5. Beautiful old barn tasting room. Went on Friday night and had a blast! Great food, awesome live music from 6-9 and also played some Wine-O (bingo) between set breaks for the band. Had a great time out and will definitely be back!

History Museums
What an amazing museum. It honored my different cultures and people's that resided in the area historically. The book selection alone was worth the visit. Kids had an amazing time!
Carmen M — Google review
The museum looks deceptively small from the outside and has amazing displays, artifacts and a great gift shop within. The Moyer House tour is guided and the staff and docent were super friendly and knowledgable. The best thing happening in Brownsville!
Adam — Google review
Wonderful ladies who work here- they are very knowledgeable about the history of Linn County and the museum is so fun! I love the interactive exhibits like loading an Oregon trail wagon or dressing up like the people from the time! I also really liked their caboose exhibit. I think having the boxcars included in the layout of the museum is clever and unique, and the sweatshirt I got was both affordable and super comfortable!
Vivian K — Google review
Great little museum packed full of historical items from the area. Loved the way the diaromas (dentist office, doctors office, dressmaker, beauty salon, blacksmith, etc). And of course information about the filming of "Stand By Me." I will certainly visit again. Thanks for a lovely few hours in Brownsville.
Margie R — Google review
I personally enjoyed the small, old fashion theater set up. We got to pick out our desired VHS to watch from an array of choices. Mouse Hunt was our choice. Lots of history to look at. Free admission, though donations are encouraged to keep them up and running.
J. — Google review
The museum is a fantastic place to learn local history for the Mid-Willamette Valley. The volunteers are knowledgeable, dedicated, and kind. The artifacts are fascinating. Take a walk past the Halsey Bank or study a map of the indigenous Calapooia prehistoric mounds. You can even watch Stand By Me in the little theater!
Melody N — Google review
This museum packs a huge punch into a relatively small space. Located in the railroad depot building dating back to the late 19th century, a large portion of the museum is in train cars - including the theater. Dress up in authentic pioneer clothing and take a picture with the actual covered wagon the Drinkard family used to cross the frontier in 1865 - one of only 3 known actual Oregon Trail wagons still in existence. They also have extensive artifacts from the pioneer days - blacksmithing equipment, and replica General store, doctors office, bank, and more. You'll even see hair art! 🫨 You have to see it to believe it! The volunteers are very kind and knowledgeable. Admission is free - they accept donations (and I highly suggest supporting them!) but they will not ask you to donate.

McDowell Creek Falls County Park

Waterfalls
Great place to go for a hike, no parking fees. It wasn't easy but it's not the hardest either, I was in a group with a bunch of kids and they all managed it and had fun as well. There are toilets at the parking lot and some stairs on the route. The stairs might be a bit steep for some but generally, the elevation is gradual. Beautiful waterfalls, loved it.
Chioma N — Google review
Multiple trails, a few different waterfalls, a few bridges. None of the trails we encountered were marked very well as to which one you’re on and we didn’t see any wooden plaques that explain which directions to go for which falls. There was one sign. I just mean it’s not very informative. We hike often at various places and some trails provide these, some don’t. We didn’t see any “map” to explain where each falls are. We had to Google ahead of time as there is minimal to zero cell service here. In the summer we like to “hike” up the creek once we’ve hiked from the top area down. The falls are beautiful. More robust in early fall through mid spring. The last two summers with heat made the falls much smaller. But still worth experiencing.
Keelie I — Google review
I come to McDowell Creek Falls to shoot photography often and it never disappoints. The areas are always clean and the people that High care are always extremely friendly. Not to mention it’s one of the most beautiful places to photograph!!
Stefani B — Google review
Such a beautiful place to explore and hike! A wonderful place to take your puppy for a walk too! There are lots of stairs and inclines/declines, so be prepared to work up a little bit of a sweat
Eden B — Google review
This was a pretty sweet trail with beautiful falls and trails. The trail isn't well marked so I ended up a bit confused like most others I ran across. I recommend downloading the offline rout prior to the journey through the woods.
Sarah W — Google review
Very pretty area. At least 4 different waterfalls along the trails. Good for exercise uphills and stairs as well as flat. Be careful in the wet season the stairs and bridges are slippery.
T L — Google review
Who knew we had such a jewel nearby! We explored the entire place and what I liked about it from a park layout perspective is how accommodating it is for different types of visitors. You can choose your own adventure and distance, but even then, if you miscalculate your abilities, there is always a chance to change the itinerary and come out a winner. The park offers multiple picturesque views of hidden waterfalls along the hike from different angles and perspectives. Whether you are the type of person who likes to feel the waterfall breathing in your face or a different type who likes to absorb the natural beauty from afar and safety of the wooden platforms with railings - you got it. Dog lovers, I have a special note for you: keep your friends on leash and controlled. Many park visitors bring their dogs and if yours is more aggressive than others, keep in mind that there are many narrow passages that will make you regret bringing your pup along. Save yourself trouble if your pup can't handle other dogs. Kids will love this place, the hikes are interesting and have frequent changes and interesting interruptions for them to enjoy. Many picnic tables at the beginning of the trails to enjoy family celebration or a lunch break. There are several areas where you can get wet if desired so and even swim ops if you are the type that can tolerate the cold temperature of the water.
Roman K — Google review
Such a pretty place! One of our favorites hikes we’ve been on because you can choose where to start, and go in different directions. There are also a ton of little paths to take to add time to the hike, get closer to the water, etc. The falls weren’t super strong of course because it’s the end of summer but it was a beautiful place no matter what! I will say the steps can be a bit steep so can be harder for some people. And on some of the paths there are trees fallen in the path that are about mid thigh that could be harder to navigate. So fun tho!!

This is such a pretty area. And one of the prettiest covered bridges, I've seen. There's a hiking trail there, and as others pointed out, a bike cleaning station, as well as Frisbee golf.
Northern G — Google review
Super nice covered bridge that you can drive on. In great shape and easy to access. Great spot for a beverage/meal next door.
Melaney D — Google review
This is truly a hidden gem. I was looking for a place to hike after visiting the hot springs, and Wesfir popped up, so we went to check it out. This place has the biggest Frisbee golf course I've ever seen they have an amazing hiking trail, and they have a bike repair station.
Kasi C — Google review
For those looking for some fun photos then this is a good stop. The area is a park and has a few trails, but the main draw is the cover bridge. If you are planning to take picture of cars, keep in mind this is a one lane bridge so be aware of others coming in and out of the park. The grounds of the park are nice and a good place to picnic if it works out on your travels.
Adam C — Google review
Really well maintained covered bridge and park. Bike washing station, along with tools for adjusting your bike. There's a train trestle as you walk a little further behind the park.
Jared F — Google review
I have always had a thing for covered bridges since I was a kid and this one you can even drive through. It is in the perfect setting in a beautiful, quaint little town of Westfir, OR. The leaves were just starting to turn to fall colors which made the scene even more dramatic. Only a couple miles off of highway 58 if you are ever up that way.

Nice park area. Disc golf, small dirt bike track as well as many trails to try out on foot or bike.

BF (kip) And I use to discover these beauties together.. Out on a Road Trip and I came across this gem... Little different then the ones I use to find... I like the uniqueness of this one with the pedestrian wall thru.. Beautifully placed over the river. Walk or drive across this bridge and park in the rest area. Public bathrooms are available as well as picnic area's.

Cascadia County Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Pure beauty. I am already missing the park. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were clean, and they had 7 rolls of T-paper. The showers were free and warm water on demand. Also, the park is dog friendly, and Cowboy enjoyed his time on the river and made some new friends. I'm in love with Cascadia State Park. I look forward to future visits.

Came here the last 2 years for a camping trip with friends. It’s been great and there’s lots of fun scenery to explore. The first photo is a great swimming spot directly under the entry bridge if you climb over on the left(if you’re facing the main road) side of the bridge and there’s a pretty easy path down there for anyone who isn’t out of shape.

Beautiful park with small and large group camping. Hiking, waterfalls, Native American heritage site close by, covered bridge down the road.. Awesome place to escape with family and friends.

Great hike/ trail walk for kids! Also great for a jogging stroller or wagon. My three year old did great. Amazing swimming spot, great for dogs (on leash). Gross pit toilets is my only complaint lol

Beautiful campground. We didn't stay here, but drove through on a Monday. Gorgeous swimming hole and nice tent sites nestled into the big trees on a mountainside. Bathrooms, fire pits, and picnic tables. Kind of close to each other but lots of good stuff, soft ground for tents, trails to hike. 2 camp hosts that rotate on/off duty.

Picked the right time to go! It's not overly crowded and the weather is just right! Perfect for swimming ! Lots of swimming holes, bring an float/tube, a lawn chair and enjoy!

Went to a memorial in this park. Was a beautiful place to have had it, as the family is local and visit it quite often. I could sit and just be mesmerized by the beauty and the sound of the river.

Terwilliger Hot Springs

Hot spring
Nature & Parks
Hot Springs & Geysers
Geothermal pools in the Willamette National Forest with springs that drain into Rider Creek.
They have really put in the work to get this trail maintained post the fires. I will say the price was raised to $12 instead of the normal $10 so just keep that in mind! The hike to the hot springs is short but I would recommend wearing sturdy shoes as it can still be slick. Enjoy your time there but please be respectful of others enjoying the pools and relaxing
Marissa S — Google review
This is my FAVORITE Hot Springs so far in the PNW. The hike is easy & there are 4 separate pools with different temperatures & a small “cold plunge” area. BRING BACK THE BUCKET! I was shocked at the increase in price to $12 per person unless under 12 (free) but it’s worth it so it doesn’t turn into Bagby.
King S — Google review
Loved it , loved it !!!!! Super kool place ... heads up !! Thursdays they don't open it untill 12pm !! The trail isn't hard , the seating/ changing area is adequate and rustic looking and the different temp pools makes it nice ..
Wesley L — Google review
$12 fee, open sunrise to sunset. Clothing optional. There are toilets at the trailhead where you pay the person and at the hot springs. On a Sunday morning I was the first one in the parking lot but was soon in the company of about 20 other people by 8am. No cell service
Catherine M — Google review
Good natural hot springs! You need to pay a day use fee at the beginning of the trail, $12 per person. A short 10 minutes hike will bring you to the springs. There are WCs there and small roof covered space where you can leave your belongings in case it would be raining. Overall it is very enjoyable place, but it can be crowded sometimes. I don't show the springs on my photos because some people prefer to take bathing naked
Mikhail B — Google review
My first hot spring ever in Oregon! I’ve been wanting to visit a hot spring, and this one sure didn’t disappoint! It’s about a 1/4 mile walk/hike to the springs, but it’s easy enough if you take it easy and don’t mind heights or a small trail. The pay station was broken, so lucky enough we found a host to give our money to! There are 4 different springs, ranging from too hot to lukewarm. The best one was the second hottest. Enjoy and be kind to each other! 🌊🗻💜💦 🫧
Kathy R — Google review
$12 per person to enter. You park on the edge of road in front of their little booth. The guys who work it are nice and friendly, and they explain the rules clearly. No drugs, no alcohol, no obscene behavior (yall know what im talking about). The hot springs is nude optional, so be warned if you bring your kids. Anyways, the hot springs themselves are cool. About 4 pools each at varying temperatures. The highest one being the hottest and the lower you go the cooler. I did notice that the bottom 2 in particular were quite murky and mossy. To be expected in nature but not really my taste. Would I come back? Ehh, I don’t really think so. Unless I had the springs to myself or sharing it with a handful of people but the springs get crowded a bit.
Ayden C — Google review
Good place, I have never before experienced hot springs and it was cool! there are 4 springs and each has a different temperature. In the highest, the water is the hottest, and in the lowest, it is colder. It takes 15 minutes to get there from the parking lot. you have to be prepared that people can be completely naked.

Detroit Lake State Recreation Area

State park
Nature & Parks
Ringed by a forest, this park offers camping along with swimming, fishing & boating in Detroit Lake.
Easy water access and large beach, boat rentals avilabke at the marina, fun gift shop with coffee available, large bathroom & showers available in each loop. D loop is my favorite loop. Lots of trees, so camp stays decently shaded and a little cooler for those hot summer days. No RV dump site or ground hookups available.
Sarah R — Google review
A good place for families. Lots of activities. However, my personal tastes are to camp in places with more space between campsights, and less people in general. Looks popular, though.
Steve M — Google review
Great location for a family camping trip. We took our family of 5 here with another family of 4. Lots of trails, beach access and more. We brought our boat and Kayaks and the water was amazing!
Angilo F — Google review
Love Detroit lake! The recreation area has plenty of parking for day use and for boat trailers. Area is well maintained and clean and has a few picnic tables but they are far from the water in the shade.
Vidushi D — Google review
It was our first time camping at Detroit lake and in general and it was unforgettable moment. We wish we could stay longer but everything was booked out. A32 was perfect for us since it was right by playground and kids could go there anytime and be watched from camp site. I will definitely return. Loud traffic can be heard especially at night but ear plugs fixed that issue for me. 5/26/2025 update: just returned from another Memorial Day camping trip and our family decided to make it a tradition to come every day. Enjoyed it to the fullest
Artem M — Google review
Mongold Dsy use was a great place to cool off. I dont have a boat or jet ski, but this place looks to be the hot spot. Get there early, whether for boating or sitting on the shore. The area is very rocky. I would suggest water shoes. Bring cover like an easy up or umbrella. It was only 75 but felt much hotter in the sun. The water was decent temp, and we could just hop in. It was a bit windy at times so hard to navigate in a tube alone (bring a paddle). There are a lot of areas along the water so people are spread out. There are only a few picnic tables. Personally, I like a river in which water is a bit clearer and the rocks are tumbled.
Christina M — Google review
Great campground but it lacks areas to play. There is a playground, docks for boating, basketball hoop, a trail that goes all the way around the campground, and of course the lake. There isn't much grass or area to play. If you want to play yard games, catch, badminton, bocce ball, etc you basically have to play in the road. Even where there is grass, it doesn't seem to be watered.
Randy E — Google review
We were here the weekend after labor day weekend and found the campground packed. Fishing wasn't any good because of the water level was so low. We were allowed to have a camp fire which was unheard of in these parts. We will be back....

Waldo Lake

Lake
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Large alpine lake attracting visitors for fishing, boating, hiking & camping in forested surrounds.
I love it here! It's so tranquil and everything is absolutely is stunning. I can't wait to go back, hopefully I'll have a bigger kayak by then to make the hours on the lake more comfortable, cause it's really hard to leave. Best pack enough bug repellent to kill a cow, because even if you bathe in it, you will get bug bites.
Jackie B — Google review
I had a great time camping here with my dog. However, be advised that an enormous area on the North and West side of the lake was incinerated in a wildfire a few years ago. We hiked the trail and there is still some beauty to be found. The best part is the peaceful paddling. No gas engine craft are allowed!

Waldo Lake is a natural alpine lake in the Cascade Mountains of the U.S. state of Oregon. It is the second largest natural non-alkali lake in Oregon with just under 10 square miles of water surface and a maximum depth of 420 feet. Thick forests, hiking, mountain biking, camping, swimming and boating. Waldo Lake is a recreation gem of the Cascades (besides the hordes of mosquitoes in early summer). Waldo Lake is one of the largest natural lakes in Oregon. Lying high on the western slopes of the Oregon Cascades, Waldo Lake is one of the largest natural lakes in Oregon and one of the purest lakes in the world. It has no permanent inlet to bring nutrients into the lake for plant growth. The lack of plant life contributes to its purity. You can see to depths of 120 feet on a calm day. It offers a uniquely peaceful setting on the water and along remote shorelines, surrounded by forests of Douglas fir and Western Hemlock. Recreation in the area is abundant with the lake an ideal location for water activities like sailing, canoeing and swimming.

I really enjoyed Waldo lake! The hikes they have around this lake were beautiful! Highly recommend. And most of them are easy just wear good shoes!

If it weren't for all the bugs (mosquitoes, bees, and flies) this would be my favorite place on Earth. The bugs are pretty aggressive, but other than that it's beautiful. If you can, try to camp up here along the lake, and go for a night kayak paddle under the stars 💖💖

Koosah Falls

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Moderate hike to a 70ft-tall waterfall dropping into a deep pool, ringed by ferns & moss.
I was truly captivated by the beauty of falling water. The lush green forest surrounding this natural wonder was a truly unforgettable experience. Nature at its best a must visit I must say .

Beautiful waterfall right off the parking lot. I recommend visiting in spring when there’s so much greenery and the water is a beautiful shade of blue

The hike between Sahalie and Koosah Falls is filled with stunning views, and the waterfalls that punctuate either end are wildly impressive features. 100% worth a stop and the short trek between the two!

It's a beautiful waterfall. I did Sahalie Falls first and followed the trail beside McKenzie River to Koosah Falls. Koosah Falls is gorgeous. There are multiple viewing spots.
Stewart C — Google review
A beautiful waterfall with a viewpoint located about 100 steps down from the parking lot. Several small parking areas are available along the road leading to the falls from the McKenzie Highway

As with its counterpart upstream…Stunning!! Water flow over the top is amazing. The beautiful blue water that is crystal clear as the current settles. A MUST SEE!
Ernie S — Google review
Beautiful piece of nature and the trails were easy to navigate.
B J — Google review
I absolutely love this place! A few fun facts are Sahalie falls (the single big one among my pictures) is the top (1st) waterfall that starts the trail to Koosah Falls which is just about a 10 min little hike down along the river. Sahalie Falls, in particular, is also the waterfall in the old classic movie "Homeward Bound." It's just a little fun fact for anyone who didn't know, lol. I also like this place becUse it's probably one of the easiest big waterfalls to locate/drive too because if you're in Springfield, Oregon then all you gotta do is go up main street towards Thurson and just stay on main street and follow that for about 45 minutes and it'll literally be on the left lol. Anyway, I recommend anyone who likes waterfalls or just a nice like spot for a getaway, then this is the spot.

Clear Lake

Bodies of Water
Body of water in an ancient forest, popular with swimmers & divers for its high level of visibility.
So beautiful! Nice quiet lake that is so clear- you can see all the way to the bottom even at the deepest parts. You can rent rowboats or kayaks or bring your own (launch fee is $5 but worth it)
Julia J — Google review
6/15/25 Can it get any better than this? 🩵 Clear crisp and freezing cold water. Bring you kayak or paddle board or come without and rent it here. This lake is absolutely beautiful and serene. Great location for camping, or just for a day trip. Restaurant on site, clean bathrooms and a designated place for fish cleaning. Make sure to get there early for a parking spot. Parking pass can be purchased at the store.
Talia W — Google review
This place is a must see. The water is gorgeous and resort is rustic but nice. Employees are great and have a small restaurant at the boat dock and includes a small store that has everything including fishing supplies and souvenirs. Some cabins have plumbing and some don't. Suite 21 is the handicap cabin that has a indoor shower and bathroom. Suite 21 is also hooked up to community bathroom/showers which are really clean. Pack your mosquito spray because you do see some from time to time. Boat rentals are not very expensive. We rented 2 small boats for the day for $80. Definitely check this place out. Bring all your pots and pans plus linens if staying in a cabin

We rented a small row boat and had a great time on the lake! It was a Sunday morning and there weren't a lot of people on the Lake. Staff were very friendly. They supply life jackets with boat rentals, so don't worry if you don't own a life jacket. They accept both cards and cash.
Jem M — Google review
Had a fantastic time here and it was very quiet for two nights here. You can bring your own paddle board or-kayak , or you can rent a kayak , but it should be noted that the water here is very cold and there is no cell phone signal, but you can use the camp's phone to contact the outside world!
Vicky L — Google review
Clear lake is a very beautiful, easy 5 mile hike through lava fields and woods. There's a beautiful blue pool you can hike down to or just admire from the trail. While it is a popular hiking destination, it is not over crowded. You can rent canoes and paddle around the pristine waters or just hike the perimeter and enjoy the easy ups and downs and mostly flat and well maintained trail. Be prepared and don't forget to pack bug spray and sunblock, though we didn't have any issues with mosquitos when we were hiking around 11AM last week.
Rachel J — Google review
It's one of my favorite walks in the pnw. There aren't typically many people doing the full loop (5 miles), so it's not crowded on the trail. There are tons of places to stop and check out the stellar water and so many photo opportunities. The trail is well maintained for the most part. The only tricky parts are in the lava flow portions. The trail is very dog friendly. Plus: the leaves are starting to change for fall!

Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center

Retreat center
Nature & Parks
Cozy refuge on a remote forest retreat with well-being programs, hot-spring pools & vegetarian food.
Breitenbush Hot Springs is truly a magical place. The food was delicious with so much variety. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Some parts are brand new and others are almost 100 years old. I recommend taking the tour. The wood sauna with a cold plunge was my favorite. I can’t wait to visit again.
Allen S — Google review
Beautiful and relaxing hot springs in a beautiful setting! We spent two nights there and greatly enjoyed our stay. Everyone was friendly and pools were clean and well kept. I do think it is a bit silly that for the price you're paying, you have to bring your own bedding. If the price was a little cheaper I wouldn't have minded, but it was a bummer to have to pay all that money for accommodation and not even be fully accommodated unless you want to shell out even more to rent bedding and towels. I understand this probably stems from wanting to save water on laundry since they are powered by hydro, but again, if that's the case the prices should be a bit cheaper. The walls in The Grove were pretty thin as well, but most people were considerate and quiet. I do feel lucky that there weren't any infants staying in The Grove while we were there, though, like some other reviews have mentioned. Food was okay, but like others have said a little bland. Highly reccomend bringing some snacks for your room if you get snacky between meal times like me. All this to say I still give 4 stars as it was truly a blissful and relaxing experience. I'd love to be back at some point.
Devon H — Google review
I'm not sure what exactly changed here, but the people running this place are acting totally different from even a few months ago. I placed an ice pack in the shared guest freezer, and it disappeared by the time I finished my breakfast. Staff responses ranged from side eyed attempts to ignore me, telling me I should expect stealing because "it's human nature", and two suggestions that I simply steal one from another guest. They acted like I was some idiot monster for even feeling angry about it, even though I was simply asking to borrow one of their ice packs during the trip. "Luckily" it reappeared after I was told to leave the area briefly/ check with the gift shop. Maybe they are just overwhelmed by the way the owners are capitalizing on the fire to overdevelop the area? There seemed to be more people crowded into the area than usual, yet they're still building all over. There was a strange tension between the leaders and the newer/younger workers and volunteers that I had never noticed before. Overheard some complaining about how people were being lazy or talking back, but they seemed to be working hard for how they are compensated. One of them was even breaking down a bit from the stress. Seems like greed and vanity are taking center stage now, instead of healing and nature. If I return, it will be for short trips with lowered expectations. The waters are still lovely, but I wonder how they will last under the new business plans.
Kay L — Google review
I’m not going to give Breitenbush a “bad” review, as it’s a magical place and I know they are working hard to rebuild. However, things have changed a bit and this last weekend was a different trip than I’ve had prior. For my trips 4 years ago and 2 year ago, I got everything that I needed to stay warm with the bedding rental. Soaking was easily accessible. Staff was kind and comforting. The food was incredible. This time, I still had a great time but will lower my expectations for next trip and be more prepared. Breitenbush gives the feeling that it has been hit hard by inflation, just like the rest of us. Not their fault. But the experience is slightly altered. I rented bedding, and it did arrive as described. But there was no heated blanket base like I was used to, and we were FREEZING with two thin blankets in our mushroom yurt! The pillows squished into nothing. Bring bedding these days! They also built a ton of new lodging and a bathhouse for showers and restrooms, and the new area is really nice and vibey. Love the new construction. But there were way too many people. Lines for meals were way out the door, and the pools all had 6+ people in them most of the time. It was just way more crowded then before, which I’m sure they need to survive financially. I also talked up the food a lot to my partner before coming here. Last two times I visited, everything felt so healthy, fresh and original! I bought the cookbook. One meal was homemade Hawaiian food, one meal was a sushi bar, with incredible deserts! This time, it felt like casseroles that had been potentially cooked from frozen (still homemade, just bland), a spaghetti bar, no desserts. No protein besides beans. My stomach hurt when I got home, not from food poisoning or anything but it just was kind of mid level carb heavy food, not the magic of before. Will bring healthy protein for myself next time for sure. Also, one member of the staff was incredibly rude. I almost never say that, I don’t think I’m a Karen. But the tall woman with silver hair in the kitchen had about 10 negative interactions with diners in the lodge during one meal that I observed. She raised her voice at me to move (I had moved out of her way, but not the way she wanted me to go, so she yelled). She also physically put her hands on a woman and moved her out of the bar line to replace food. She snapped at another woman who needed a cup washed. I understand she was probably frustrated and having a bad day, but you really shouldn’t physically put your hands on guests, even if it is to move them out of the way. The rest of the staff was great by the way. One dance class and one sustainability tour offered on Saturday, but no group meditation or yoga unless I missed it. All in all, the vibe was different. Still magical, still worth going. But come more prepared than you are used to, and be aware that inflation has impacted us all, including this amazing retreat.
Andi R — Google review
Disappointing. I wasn’t expecting so much loud talking happening everywhere. My mistake because I was thinking it would be similar to a Japanese style onsen. The cafeteria area was pretty loud during meal time, the cabin doors don’t have locks on them, & the hot spring pools were crowded & noisy. We ended up waiting until late evening to enjoy the pools when they were much less crowded & we could sit in peace. Overall there seemed to be larger groups traveling there together rather than singles or couples. If socializing with others while there is what you want to do, you may enjoy it more than I did. And bringing a robe & slippers should be on the must have list on their website. I found the food to be lacking in flavor and ordinary.
Rebecca G — Google review
This place is amazing! The organic local lunch is so tasty and the soaking pools were clean and welcoming. It’s clothing option but most folks are nude. There’s a lot of logging and fire damage in the area which is a bit hard to see.
Ethan C — Google review
Super relaxing! A true retreat. Price includes 3 absolutely delicious vegetarian buffets per day. Gluten free options available. The flowers around the resort were so pretty. No cell service, no photos allowed. No alcohol or drugs allowed. Bring coffee if you want it. They have hot water. Drinking water available. Bring a bathrobe and slide sandals. Be okay with nudity as most go in nude. Nice clean hot springs with varying temperature options. The reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 is because the second time I went I felt like they over-booked— the hot springs were packed and it was hard to find a spot to soak!! Also on the second visit there were no classes available at all despite it being a busy weekend. I was disappointed because at our first there was ecstatic dance in the evening and yoga and meditation offered in the morning. That felt like part of the experience and made it more of a full worthwhile experience! Overall though, it is lovely.

Hmmmm.... I am a small business owner and have had a very full year with family obligations and not much time to myself. The intention I had for my breitenbush trip was just to relax and reset. I hadnt been since the burn. I would have to say that unfortunately overall I left more stressed, exhausted and in a worse mood than when I got there. Prior to my visit I meticulously read through the website to make sure I was properly prepared as I really just wanted to have a good time and it had been quite a while since I had been there. During my visit I would say that while yes post burn things are a bit less "lush" but that was to be expected. Actually I thought there was different kind of beauty. The river was amazing and the pools were also. Also the massage and massage temple were exquisite. Also had a great conversation with Kevaya (Ki) in the hotspring which was more of the types of interactions I was expecting. AND..... I had a serious issue with the squirrels destroying my things and taking not only snacks but cosmetics, tea and supplements from my space. When I sought help the gatehouse staff just blamed, shamed and fear Mongered me with zero hospitality or effort to accomodate. They didn't even try to say I'm sorry this happened... or anything to help me feel better, they sent out a guy with a broken broom to chase off the squirrel that wasn't there.. they kept saying that "you're not supposed to have food in your lodging at all". I felt really gaslit and blamed because I didnt read anything on the website that said that and as a matter of fact it seems to encourage people to bring their own food to supplement if they want. This really made me feel bad and dismissed. I mean okay the squirrels ate my stuff, but do people have to make it worse by not only being unhelpful but to blame and shame me? I didnt get it . When I would thank members of the kitchen staff in the hall I would get weird responses that seemed cold, Idk. The whole reason why I went was to relax and I ended up just feeling exhausted and stressed and ended up leaving early. The very last interaction I had was again at the gatehouse when I was letting them know I would check out early... she automatically assumed I was wanting a refund and told me she couldn't give me one.. I was over it and just didn't say anything. I figure I was being kind to let them know so they could clean out the space early. Idk why. I feel bummed that I paid money to go somewhere like this to have people.. treat me like that. I still feel baffled by it. There's got to be something going on because it doesnt seem right .Props to the massage therapist with the blue eyes who gave me the best massage of my life to date in the most beautifully curated space on the grounds, the massage temple. She was so attentive and kind and considerate. The gal on August 3rd in the gift shop just before lunch was also absolutely wonderful and helpful and kind. I will come again as Im hoping it was an off weekend or there's something out of the ordinary going on that would cause folks to behave in such a way. I hope this can be helpful feedback and an opportunity to grow. Hopefully this is helpful to guests to know how to navigate the squirrels.

McKenzie Pass

Mountain pass
Outdoor Activities
Scenic Drives
Mountain road meandering through a barren lava field to a small rock observatory reaching 5,325 ft.
Dropped off my buddy here d for his PCT hike north. Beautiful serene otherworldly. Fave to visit is via bike when the road is close to cars for the winter, before or after the snow. Surrounded by wilderness on either side, this is as close as you can get to being truly immersed and wilderness, and still being on a mechanized device.

The observatory, called the Dee Wright Observatory, is for viewing the mountains, not the sky. The restroom was closed "for construction" but there's no construction taking place. No water is available. There are no tables or benches. Please be aware that you'll pass through five miles of burned forest from the 2020 firestorm on the way up from Sisters.

Beautiful drive up the pass an the Dee Wright Observatory is a must stop along the way! Previous years fire on the east side has devastated the area, but the route is still beautiful. Be careful of the bicycles using this route. Some will ride 2 or 3 side by side going up & down the pass. Please give them space because there not much of a shoulder. I usually tap my horn about 50 yards to let them know I am coming up from behind. Tour groups please don’t use this route during busy times! It’s a recipe for getting someone hurt/killed. Steep grades, no shoulder, beautiful views an distractions galore just means driver & bikers will not be paying attention to the road! This is from someone who regularly rides his bike.

The building, pictured, has view slots, also pictured, for viewing all the surrounding buttes, peaks, craters, etc. On top of the post is the brass compass which points also at the surrounding sights. There are also walking trails through the lava fields with interpretive signs telling the history. Great stop is traveling through the area or nearby Sisters!!!

This is a must see place if you are visiting Central Oregon for the first time. Old McKenzie Highway (Seasonal) is an interesting ride back in geologic time. Make sure you traverse the entire road.

I seen this place online a few years ago and got to finally go as I was visiting Central Oregon for the first time. All I can say is WOW! One of the most amazing sights I’ve ever seen. I was lucky to be on the walking loop alone and was in awe of the sights and enjoyed the silence. A really special place. The drive was through the Deschutes National Forest which was cool. A lot of trees barren due to wildfires but still beautiful. Not a road I would drive in the dark though, can be narrow and windy in some spots. Overall a beautiful time in nature. Highly recommend. The photos do not do it justice.

What an amazing place! We went at night to see the hunter's moon. It was awesome! You can see every star in the sky and all the mountains all the way around! So beautiful!

No tickets we needed for this little gem of a place. Wow what a find. A piece of history that was so amazing to see. So many things out there that you miss. Be adventurous, take the back roads. You never know what you will find.

I am loath to write this review...because I hate it when my favorite places get overrun with other visitors! But I have to give the Dee Wright Observatory a 5-star rating. It is one of my favorite places in the world to visit. We love lugging our telescopes, Sony a7ii, and SeeStar up the hill to stargaze and get some amazing astrophotography shots. It's probably the best-kept secret in central Oregon, if you ask me! We recently took our new Tesla Model Y and spent the night car camping at the Observatory. We met some interesting characters there, as we always seem to do when we're out and about. Folks who visit Dee Wright are friendly and talkative, and always interested in our equipment. We enjoy sharing our passion for the hobby! One problem during the most recent visit...the porta-potties were listed as having been serviced the day before. However, they were both badly in need of being emptied, and neither had toilet paper. Good thing we always bring along TP, but I was definitely grossed out by the state of the tanks. The servicing company obviously is falling down on the job. So...don't go here! HA!

Review from July 2024 with new photos added As others said, the road is narrow and windy but at least coming in from Sisters, to the parking lot it’s all freshly paved. (past the gate that they close in the winter) Still take caution driving up here even on a clear day. You’re in the middle of nowhere with no cell service. Once you do get up here you have some pretty great views. Plenty of parking. There’s a paved walking path that goes around the lava rocks and loops around and takes you back to the parking lot. Over all it’s a pretty neat place to visit.
Chris — Google review
Despite it being quite cold, it was a wonderful experience, being able to see all the mountains around is fascinating, and the story about the observatory is awesome. Parking is easy, very little people were there

Hosmer Lake, located near Bend, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. In the summer, visitors can enjoy kayaking and camping on the lake. The area is also great for cross-country skiing in the winter, with opportunities to explore various parks along the Cascade Lakes Highway. The lake offers unique kayaking experiences and stunning aerial views that are perfect for photography or drone footage. While it can get crowded at times, the expansive lake provides ample space to paddle and take in breathtaking scenery.
Paddled that gauntlet with my wife and son awhile back. The slithering snake between the two ends of the lake was so cool. Absolutely stunning
A. W — Google review
Hosmer lake is so beautiful! If you kayak all the way to the end you can sit and eat lunch by a small waterfall. The water is so clear that you can see fish swimming underneath you and the views of the mountains are beyond stunning. I recommend going early; we usually get there around 6:30am so we can have the lake mostly to ourselves, as the lake and parking lot can get quite crowded later in the day. Also, make sure you have a recreation pass as they are required.

This was our first visit, but it won't be our last! We had such a great time kayaking. We were out almost 3 hours. Everyone on the lake was so pleasant. So fun to see everyone enjoying the day!

Sparks Lake is a stunning destination that beckons outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Nestled just a 40-minute drive from Bend, this picturesque lake offers breathtaking views of surrounding mountain peaks, making it an ideal spot for kayaking and canoeing. The journey to Sparks Lake includes a bumpy last stretch, but the reward is well worth it. Once you arrive, you'll find convenient amenities like restrooms and access to lovely trails that are perfect for leisurely strolls or photography sessions.
Sparks Lake is a kayaker's dream, especially for those with young children. The shallow waters are perfect for splashing and wading. The sandy bottom makes it comfortable for little ones to explore. The water's clarity is remarkable; you can see straight to the bottom, though fish seem to be elusive in these pristine waters. Despite the refreshing chill of the water, the mid-80s weather made for a perfect day on the lake. The stunning views of Mount Bachelor, a popular ski resort, provided a breathtaking backdrop for our kayaking adventure. You can pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a leisurely day on the water, encountering friendly people kayaking, paddleboarding, and enjoying other non-motorized activities. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, making Sparks Lake an unforgettable experience.

Camped at Sparks Lake in early August. Bit of a rough road getting in, but do-able. We turned into the first campsite we found on the right. Mid 40s at night and nice and warm during the day. We were on a little point and caught a nice breeze esp in the afternoons. Mosquitos were only a problem in the woods and when the wind died down, and even then they weren't that bad. Really a beautiful spot!
Clay P — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous lake at the end of one of the most bumpiest roads I've ever been on. The lake itself is so peaceful and the views of the mountains are incredible. I didn't float out far but the water was insanely clear as far as I could see. Definitely recommend checking it out if you have a car that sits higher. OH! And don't forget your bug spray, the bugs are brutal if you don't have it handy.
Amanda H — Google review
It was love at first sight! Due to a really rough access road, it was not even close to as crowded as touristy Elk Lake was. It's quiet and peaceful here. There's a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and really cool rock formations. I went during the fires, so it got extremely smokey in the afternoon, but it was decently clear in the morning. The lake was almost all only a foot or two deep, and I dragged bottom a couple of times. But there's a lot of lake area now covered with beautiful flowers because it's so shallow. This was my favorite of all the lakes!
Karyn G — Google review
The road getting in definitely needs repair so be prepared for that. The lake is quite shallow, and anything deeper is going to be to the south. Beautiful Mountain View’s.
Jerrod P — Google review
A very nice lake, especially at sunrise, I recommend taking nothing smaller than a suv because our car scraped a few times but it was well worth it driving back in for sunrise, even if there wasn't any clouds in the sky. It was about 32°F so the steam over the water was amazing. The restrooms were horrible. I highly recommend this lake to landscape photographers, especially at sunrise because all you have to do is drive to the day use area and you have thr perfect view at the lake side right by you.
Mark M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place. I’m sure it’s great during the spring and summer too but the frozen lake and the scenery around it during the late fall and winter is just stunning. Definitely need a 4x4 to access this lake unless you want to hike all the way in from the main road.

Ski resort

Nestled in the stunning Cascade Mountains, Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort boasts an impressive 3,683 acres of skiable terrain accessible via ten lifts, including one that takes you to the mountain's summit. As a first-time visitor from New York, I was thrilled by my experience here! The resort offers a variety of trails catering to all skill levels—beginners can enjoy gentle slopes while more advanced skiers can challenge themselves on steeper runs.
Fun in winter or summer. I came here in the winter for cross country skiing and came back now for mountain biking. There are trails for all skill levels, and each run is well maintained and easily accessible. We had a blast. We ate at the restaurant at the bottom of the run and had an excellent reuben and club sandwich. Pricey but good.

First time visiting Mt. Bachelor. Did not ski - yet still had the time of my life. Such a fun gondola ride up the mountain. Other activities included zip lining (sadly, did not get the chance to experience such a great ride) Staff was so helpful and friendly. The gift shops were well organized, of course staying busy yet still able to be in and out! Would love to come back for more fun activities
Claire G — Google review
What a FUN time. The staff is very nice, easy going, professional, knowledgeable, and extremely safety conscious. The views are spectacular and the ride itself is a load of fun. Your ticket allows you to ride the lift up again after your zip line so you can go back up, explore, hike, or enjoy the vista. Highly recommend this mini adventure.

Awesome ski resort. Great snow quality. We did spring skiing and throughout the day were switching lifts and runs to escape melted snow:) Great choice for kids as well! The only thing...I would love to see more healthy food options in lodges. Pizza, burgers and fries...So people usually bring some food with them and there is a whole level in the Lodge to enjoy it ( there is a microwave as well).
Svetlana G — Google review
The zipline is a MUST!! The only downside was the address link in my email confirmation took me to the wrong address about 25 miles away and almost made me late for the experience. Barely made it! My friend and I went together for my birthday and it was THRILLING in the best way!! Staff were all fun, upbeat, and very knowledge. I would definitely recommend a go-pro or some way to safely secure your phone on you to record the experience, otherwise any items must stay in zippered pockets or in cubbies on the ground. FANTASTIC views!! Just absolutely stunning.

Everybody knows that you can downhill ski at Mount Bachelor but recently I had the opportunity to try downhill mountain biking and what a great time that was! I’ve been living in Bend Oregon for 30+ years and over the last three years started mountain biking but I had never had the courage or opportunity to try the downhill. I was totally impressed with the amount of design built into all of the trails and it wasn’t just for high-level downhill experience, there were also more lower level trails which is where I started and worked my way up. It doesn’t take very many runs to feel like you’re exhausted. It’s a lot more physical than what I’ve ever realised so I ended up enjoying a nice lunch at the restaurant while the other guys that I were with With had a few more runs. what a beautiful day here’s a photo.
Mr E — Google review
Summer lift-access biking here is incredible. The blue flow trails are long and enjoyable, the black tech is gnarly, and Redline is probably the best jump line for an intermediary rider.
Christopher B — Google review
This may be the most impressive ski resort that I've ever driven up to. The mountain is massive. While it looks imposing from the drive, Mt Bachelor is Heaven for intermediate skiers. It has tons of open bowl skiing paired with lots of wide low angle glades. We skied here during spring conditions, but I can imagine this place being amazing during a big storm.

Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery

Fish farm
Mid-week visit. Enjoyed wandering the grounds & checking out all the different sections with fish in varying stages of growth. Most of our time was spent feeding the semi-wild trout at the pond & marveling at their size & never-ending appetite. A must for families with kiddos!

What an absolutely beautiful place. Not too far of a drive. Paved paths. Was able to push my husband in his wheelchair thru out the whole area. Always a pleasure to spend an afternoon out here
_wethebeardandbun_ — Google review
I've gone here twice and both times I enjoyed it a lot. It was really nice to just walk around and appreciate nature as well as to feed the fish. You can buy some fish food and machines around the place for a quarter. You can also spot an eagle perched at the top of the trees sometimes which is awesome sight. I forgot to take pictures of the actual hatchery, but I took some of the river.

Very beautiful place for a stroll/hike, alone or with family or friends. Place is well maintained, with lots of fish of different stage complete with information boards for your knowledge. Bring a picnic lunch as there are tables overlooking the lake and the view is gorgeous!

The hatchery was on a nice site. We could roam freely along the runs, observing the bigger fish. The fertilizing and nursery were closed.. There was a pond with large fish swimming around that you could feed. The river next to the hatchery was beautiful.

The hatchery is notable in that the West and East Metolius trails can be accessed from here. Ample parking and several campgrounds are very close by. The fall scenery here is mindblowing and picture taking opportunities are abundant. Bring all of your supplies, the closest store is Camp Sherman and is miles away. Five star hiking area.

Nature & Parks
Nestled within the stunning Deschutes National Forest, Tumalo Falls is a breathtaking 97-foot waterfall that should be on every nature lover's itinerary. The journey to this natural wonder is an adventure in itself, just a short drive from Bend, Oregon. While the last stretch involves a well-maintained dirt road, it leads you to an accessible parking area where your exploration begins. From there, it's just a brief walk to various viewpoints that showcase the falls' majestic beauty.
Tumalo Falls is absolutely stunning! I visited during the snow season and it felt like stepping into a winter wonderland. The best part — we had the whole place to ourselves, which made it even more special and romantic. The snow-covered trees and the waterfall framed in white were picture-perfect. We stayed until sunset, and it was nothing short of magical — the sky glowing against the snowy backdrop while the falls kept roaring in the quiet forest. Truly one of the most beautiful and peaceful experiences I’ve had in Oregon. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a mix of adventure, beauty, and tranquility.

Somewhat easy hike to Tumalo Falls itself and then up to Double Falls. We enjoyed the scenery, and you can go down to Tumalo Creek to wade in places.
M P — Google review
A great place to go! Road: the last two miles are gravel and dust. Any car or truck should be able to make this and need to be washed later. Parking: the first thing you’ll is a small overflow lot. This is where one pays a park fee of $5. Tap your credit card and out pops a pass. You can park here and walk a 1/2 mile to the trailhead. Or you can keep driving to find a parking spot along the road or at the small main lot at the entrance. We were there on a busy Sunday and found parking on the road. Falls: walk along the path for great viewpoints. If you go beyond the top of the falls, there are places for water access. Restroom: Yes. Nothing amazing but better than none at all.
Larry F — Google review
This was an amazing opportunity to visit the falls! The weather was perfect and it was not that busy at all. The road does get a little bumpy but it was well worth the short drive from Bend! I could just stay there for hours you will get lost in the peace and quiet with the flowing water....amazing!

Lake Billy Chinook

Bodies of Water
Artificial lake in a desert canyon, known for fishing & water sports, with campsites & houseboats.
We camped at Perry South campground. Got a nice corner spot next to the fresh water pump. There was plenty of shade. The lake is huge by our standards, and Chinook Island is a great place to spend an afternoon. We caught Kokanee and bass. Oh, and the campsite bathrooms were clean and didn't smell.

Amazing place to vacation. We camped at Crooked River Campground in the Cove Palisades State Park. The campsite was large and the bathrooms were cleaned everyday. Clean showers were a blessing at the end of the day! There was lots of wild life and deer. Hiking trail and small amphitheater area for a large group gathering. AT&T had reception but T-Mobile users were out of luck in camp. Lots of fun on the water. And grassy tree shaded play area for kids on the bank with protected swim area right next to boat launch. Made it easy to take turns on the water with large family. There is a courtesy dock that was extremely useful. There is a kayak launch too. Great to board kayak roller launch into water easy . There is a marina for fuel and general store for things you forgot( like a case of water) . Lots of opportunity to rent house boats, jet skis and other watercraft. Would suggest to go to “clear water” where the green water of Lake Billy Schnook meets the fresh mountain river. The water in the river is crystal clear and cold which is a big contrast to the green warm water of Billy Schnook. The rock canyon walls are beautiful. Lava, pressure and time have created works of art. Nature is beautiful. On land I would suggest to visit the scenic look out points. You can see Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, and the Sisters. ( plus the others in the ring of fire. Don’t know all the names) . We were there 7 days and could have stayed longer.

I went here for a Christian summer camp with my church and I got to meet a lot of new people and make a lot of friends especially kids around my age and some really cool leaders. There were areas where we could go on Shore and hike or walk around if we wanted to we were also able to canoe and swim almost wherever we wanted. We stayed on houseboats and it was a really fun experience to know what it's like to live on a boat and to get closer to God. The only not-so-fun part was the almost a little over eight hour drive but it was still cool because we got to ride the whole way in tour buses that had TVs and USB ports so we have entertainment .I will still definitely be going again next year and making even more memories and strengthening my relationship with God. P. S I just wrote a really long review because I need to level up my tour guide account and to do that I have to make 5 200-plus character reviews.

Cove Pallisades state park, the three rivers community and Lake Billy Chinook, in Culver are a sight to behold, the canyons from the town following the outline of the lake up to three rivers and then into the marina is a spectacular if hazardous drive (falling rocks), and never ceases to amaze, never busy, terribly overlooked in terms of scenery, opposite the Warm Springs native nation and the pelton dam, Round Butte mountain which has a spectacular 360° viewpoint over the Cascades, been 7 times, going to visit again in Feb. '26, can't wait, a poinant scattering my mothers ashes over the lake, Redmond and Bend, Madras and Prineville can't wait.

I grew up in Central Oregon and this was one of my favorite swimming holes. It’s a shame that there seems to be a chronic blue-green algae problem in the water. Tumalo State Park, nestled along the Deschutes River in central Oregon, offers a serene escape from city life while still being conveniently close to Bend. The park features hiking trails, a picnic area, and a popular swimming spot on the river. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy activities like fishing, mountain biking, and golfing at nearby courses. With its proximity to Mt. Bachelor and the Cascade Mountains, visitors have easy access to alpine lakes and scenic trails for exploration.
I visited Tumalo State Park for a day trip and really enjoyed the time there. The hike along the Deschutes River was peaceful and scenic, plenty of spots to pause and take in the views. The trail was well-maintained and easy to follow, making it perfect for a short, relaxing outdoor escape. It's a great spot if you're looking for a quick nature fix close to Bend.

Tumalo State Park is undeniably beautiful, boasting stunning river views, rolling hills, and serene picnic spots that make it a nature lover’s paradise. However, the park’s popularity comes with a downside—it’s almost always overly crowded. Visitors often find that the charm of its natural beauty is tempered by the constant influx of people, especially on weekends and during peak seasons. If you’re planning a visit, consider going early in the morning or on a weekday to enjoy a more peaceful experience. Overall, while Tumalo State Park offers breathtaking scenery, the persistent crowds may require a bit of extra planning to fully appreciate its tranquil allure.
Tony G — Google review
I stopped by Tumalo on my way to Bend to hike on the Deschutes River and was not disappointed. The trail takes you along the river through a forest of Alder, Juniper, and Ponderosa Pine with open spaces. You will find a short paved section that becomes a rocky dirt trail for 1.4 miles to the Riley Ranch The trail has a viewpoint above the rapids on a long metal boardwalk with great views of the river. Riley Ranch has a number of loop trails if you want a longer hike. Located O.B. Riley Road, just off Hwy 97 about four miles north of Bend. The park has a day use fee of five dollars. A great place to camp, fish, kayak, have a picnic, and hike along the river.

I’ve camped at this state park three times, and each time has been exceptionally fantastic. The first two times I camped in a travel trailer, with the last time being in a yurt. Whichever way you decide to camp, you likely will not be disappointed. It’s easy to tell at this campground that cleanliness is a top priority. The grounds are very clean and cleared of debris, as are the yurts. The washrooms and showers, the two parts of a campground that people normally dread going to, were next to spotless. Very impressed with this aspect of staying at this state park. Aside from the cleanliness, the geographical location of the park is also a major plus. The park is within 10-15 mins of most of downtown Bend. Other places to visit—such as Smith Rock State Park, the High Desert Museum, parts of Newberry National Volcanic Monument, Riley Ranch Nature Reserve, Tumalo Falls, and Shelvin Park are all within 30-45 mins of the campground. The geography of the park itself is very unique, with the Deschutes River flowing right through it underneath cliffs of ancient volcanic rock. The scenes are picturesque and I can say after my third visit to the park, they never get old. The day-use area, located right across road from the campground, has some fun activities to do. The Deschutes River provides swimming opportunities and people often bring their inner-tubes to float down the river to another spot in the day-use area. This part of the park does get extremely busy in the summer, however, so I recommend coming early in the day. The only downside comes from my most recent stay at the park—and it’s one that is out of anybody’s control—the noise from the highway. The campground is right next to a fairly busy road, and so loud cars at night can be heard every once in a while. In particular, during my most recent stay, some moron was doing donuts down on the road at 10:30pm, well after most people are trying to sleep. Unfortunately, the hosts said that this has become a near weekly occurrence. The noise bothers me, however not nearly as much as the safety of others being compromised. Overall, aside from this one unfortunate aspect, the camping experience here is sublime. I’ve made lots of great memories in the area and I hope to make many more down the road!

The Metolius River at the fish hatchery bridge is easily one of the most picturesque locations in Oregon. Be at the bridge in September at about 1pm. The lighting will be perfect on a sunny day for fantastic photos. If it's cloudy, not so much. The sun absolutely makes the water glow. If you have a tripod bring it and set the shutter speed at 1/3 second.

Beautiful walk to the metolius river viewpoint. The ponderosa pines are gorgeous here. The chipmunks are also very curious here. There is a large parking area at the viewpoint and vaulted pit toilets that can get pretty stinky during the day and also a walk in camp. There is a picnic area as well. Benches at the river viewing area and some along the way. 8/13/18

Five stars in Autumn. Did the loop trail from Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery to Lower Bridge than back on the other side of the river. Went there at early October, a lot of Falls color and the water are so clear. The hike is around 6 miles round trip easy hike. It is rare that you could hike on the edge of the river most of the way. The river is also a hot spot for fly fishing.

There is a gorgeous hiking trail near Camp Sherman that leads to the fish hatchery. There are a few small waterfalls and the river is ver clear with amazing blue and green colors.

An incredibly beautiful river, eleven different well-maintained campsites, the charming Camp Sherman store, and The intriguing Fish Hatchery. Honestly this place has something fun for everyone! Yet another reason my family's been camping there for over 60 years.

Rated one of the top 3 most pristine rivers in the United States with some of the best fly fishing for trophy trout anywhere. It starts underground from west of the Cascades and emerges out of the rocks near Camp Sherman. At the end of the pathway where you can just sit and enjoy the beauty of Central Or. Take a step back in time and relax. It's good for the soul

Cline Falls State Scenic Viewpoint

State park
Nature & Parks
This natural area on the Deschutes River offers activities such as swimming, fishing & picnicking.
Cline Falls is a great park. Lots of grass, and tons of river front picnic spots. Fishing here is ok, nothing huge that I saw. Walk just 1/4 mile downstream of the park, under the highway bridge, to Cline Falls. Super cool! Just be careful near the edge! Definitely worth the trip out of town, or a stop on your way through.

This is a short trail down to the falls, but very beautiful. You start out on the trail from the south side of the highway and go under the bridge. The trail opens up, but just stay near the river and you will be good. Be careful as there are some taller cliffs you walk near. We extended our trip and followed the trail until we came upon a fence and private property. Please be respectful of the private property and turn around. There is a trail that you can go down to the river at this point. We ended up going back along the trail, but note there is a little scrambling and steeper trails here to get back up, but it makes it more fun, if you are up for the task. Overall a nice short trail with a beautiful waterfall, but if you want something with more vertical gain, or longer trail (it is only 1 mile round trip), look somewhere else. It is worth it if you are looking for a short jaunt though.

Brake plays for quick stop to take a dip in the water or to use the restrooms or just sit in the park and watch all the amazing things and listen to all their amazing sounds

This park is a great place for families to enjoy the river, with smooth waters that are not deep. We took the hike to Cline Falls, which is mostly an easy hike just more than a half mile, with a bit of uneven terrain. To get the best view of the falls will take moderate rock climbing skills which can be done by most people who are reasonably in shape. The falls offer a great place to explore as the water was not very deep. Excellent place to spend an hour or two with the family!

The Art of Alfred A. Dolezal Gallery

Permanently Closed
Art gallery
Museums
Do not miss the chance to visit. The highlight of our trip to Redmond. This is on the property of Eagle Crest resort, where we were staying for the week of spring break. We visited one afternoon and loved it. The artist (Alfred) was there during our visit and it was a delight to talk with him about his work and life philosophies. Alfred's art is a symbolic artist and he has explanations of all the paintings that are very engaging and thought-provoking. We spent hours studying the paintings and reading the explanations. The gallery manager Patty is awesome! My 11 year old son mentioned that he likes to draw. Patty told us about an art class Alfred does that was perfect for him. We signed him up for a class the next day. He was the only student! Alfred sat with him 1 on 1 for two hours and guided him in the creation of a charcoal sketch. He gave him lots of great advice and encouragement and our son had a fabulous time. He has a beautiful matted charcoal drawing that he created himself that was included as part of the class. Lots of original art for sale, and although a bit out of our price range, prices were not crazy. Lots of high quality limited edition reproductions and framed pieces. We bought one of my favorites, and also a card for our 5-year-old daughter, which Alfred spent several minutes talking to her about while he signed it. If you are lucky, Patty might even make you some raspberry lemonade.

While staying at the Eagle Crest Resort with friends a month ago we happened upon the art gallery of Alfred Dolezal. His unique paintings with accompanying descriptions and explanations gave us so much to ponder. His studio is on-site and we found him very personable and open to discussing his paintings with you. A pleasant surprise and wonderful stop on our trip!

I never had the opportunity to work one on one with such a brilliant artist. While I stayed a week at the Eagle Crest Resort, I reserved a one on one session with Alfred. Having not picked up a pencil in years it was a relief to get inspired so quickly within his art studio/gallery. I learned new techniques and having my piece framed by Patti,Alfred's dear wife, just made it a memorable moment in such a beautiful place. Next time I need to make more time to spend with his artwork in the gallery. Each piece tells such an in depth story. Thank you so much to Alfred and Patti , it will be just the first visit.

This was the highlight of my stay at Eagle Ridge Resort. Just so happened it was on a Sunday and we were going to church so what's right next door is this wonderful art gallery, well needless to say we never managed to get to church two hours later we're still there with the owner and his wife showing us and explaining to us he's art and the deep meanings of each peice. I could write a book on this man and his works but better to Google him and find out what he's really all about. You won't be disappointed I got to bring home some lovely gifts signed and framed

I took an art lesson from Alfred, he helped me with drawing, shading, over lapping with objects in front and back. I was drawing a hummingbird and one flew by the window and stayed there for us to watch. Lovely setting, left with a matted finished drawing.

Wasn't expecting what we found. Unique and diverse art with integrated meanings and perspectives. Picked up several prints that were applicable to our son and daughter as well as a couple that applied to my wife and myself. Very helpful staff. This is a don't miss gallery, even if you aren't looking to buy.

I brought my granddaughter in and had a wonderful time talking to the artist’s wife about the paintings and reading the stories behind them.

Cool little art gallery! AND its the only one your going to find without going into Bend. PLUS, the local scenery surrounding it is awesome. Go check out some beautiful art and then have a nice walk on the surrounding pathways.
