Amazing atmosphere! Beautiful grounds, delicious beverages and fun crowd! Elizabeth greeted us with her warm energy and helped us out at the bar! Such a great time, they had live music while we were there :-)

We had a fantastic experience at Jessie’s Grove Winery! Emily was absolutely wonderful — her customer service was top-notch, and she made us feel so welcomed. She even brought water out for our Doberman, which was such a thoughtful touch. We’re happy and excited to be part of the wine club. Thanks, Emily, for making our visit so memorable!
Emmy N — Google review
This is one of those beautiful property, but terrible wines place. Similar to Michael David, but worse wine. It's for those who are more into ambiance and live music than the wines itself, which is the majority of people so it's good they get a lot of business. Wine tasting is $15 for 5 mix of white/red wines or $20 for 4 dessert wines, 1 bottle purchase to waive. Of our group of 5 people, no one liked any of the wines, and we buy bottles at most wineries we go to. It just tasted like cheap, low quality wine. Service was very slow. Maybe not our servers fault since she always seemed busy. Mostly outdoor seating, but some indoor as well. Only 2 gender neutral bathrooms available.

Capturing the heart of a old world winery, Jessie's speaks to the soul. A perfect place to enjoy a picnic and a glass of delicious wine. A comfort to the frenetic pace of highways and populous areas. Jessie's Grove takes one back to a gentler time when family sat down to gather with wine and the weeks harvest. In the garden, a beautiful dahlia collection with hay bales and pumpkins, great for a group photo. If I close my eyes, I imagined children playing in the grass and gardens as the older folks sat comfortably at shaded tables, a gentle breeze and the soft songs of the areas birds. A jewel in the Lodi valley❤️

By far one of the nicest and friendliest wineries I have ever been to in California. Very knowledgeable team and beautiful grounds next time we're in the area we will definitely be coming back here. Thank you for making our trip memorable.

Concert Eagles/Miller Night- Music 🎶 was awesome. It brought back memories of when I saw the Eagles & Steve Miller a few years back. Very nice atmosphere and great security. Handicap parking & golf cart ride to entrance was very much appreciated. Especially at the end of the night and visibility of landscape was difficult to see. When you see the owners of the winery picking up garbage, making the announcements, cleaning, etc. This is true pride in what they do. Keep up the good work! Thank you Suzanne & Greg.👏🍷🥂🎶

The Lodi Wine Visitor Center is a must-visit for wine enthusiasts. Located on Turner Road next to Wine & Roses, it offers a comprehensive introduction to the Lodi appellation. Visitors can learn about the region's winemaking process and the impact of night breezes from the Sacramento Delta on vine growth. With over 200 Lodi bottles available, including those from small-batch vintners without their own tasting rooms, there's no shortage of options to explore.
They have a large collection of Lodi grape wines. Very inexpensive tasting ($12 for 4) and it seems like the tasting menu changes weekly. Was nice to hang out there and learn a bit about the different wineries.

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! This was a beautiful discovery 😍 of fine wines. Home grown here in Lodi. Friendly atmosphere, with charming gathering places, in various corners of their courtyard. Thank you Brooke, we were so glad to have this fantastic experience tasting a little bit of Lodi during my work trip! This is such a brilliant concept to have in town. I appreciated it so much! Lodi does not disappoint with their wines and we will be back in the area for sure, cheers!
Maggie S — Google review
The staff there were friendly. After the wine tasting, we bought 2 bottles of wine, that were very well packed for us. When I just arrived home and opened the package, I found the expensive wine club exclusive Heavy Hitter Petite Sirah was not sealed. I talked to the manager the next day and he explained some wineries simply send in their wines to the visitor center with the bottles not sealed. This exposes a safety concern to us, because the content of the bottle could be easily changed. It was said there were some environmental concerns with the foil sealing. If so, there should be some sort of replacement like wax sealing. Wine sold with the bottles not even sealed in any way is not acceptable.

Art museum
Nestled in the heart of Sacramento, the Crocker Art Museum stands as a testament to artistic heritage, being the oldest public art museum west of the Mississippi River. With nearly 140 years of history, it showcases an impressive array of international artworks alongside its renowned collections of Californian art and ceramics. Visitors can immerse themselves in diverse exhibitions that span European, Asian, and African paintings.
This is one of the best art museums I’ve ever visited. I was impressed by the breadth of time periods and media, as well as the focus on California art and artists who spent most of their lives here. I wish I had time to see everything! You could easily spend all day here. Of special note is the unique descriptions for almost ever single piece on display in the permanent collection that gave immense detail on the artist, subject, and “what to focus on” that helps give special context on the piece.
Molly — Google review
Phenomenal museum with works by world-class artists that are household names and also a treasure trove of pieces by regional and emerging creators. The price of admission is well worth its value and I spent a solid two hours here. I would have stayed longer save for my parking meter running out! I loved the modern art on view. The only downsides were that the layout is a little confusing with how the new and old buildings connect, and that the cafe closes a little early. Other than that, I definitely plan to visit Crocker Art Museum again!
E D — Google review
During a heatwave that extended into the weekend, I was trying to think of a family activity/outing that would keep us cool. My 13 year old (who has a fondness for art & history) suggested that we visit the Crocker Art Museum. My wife and I hadn’t been in years (I believe the last time I visited was when I was in grade school), so we loved this idea and were excited! Unfortunately, this was a last minute decision, so we would only have 1.5 hours to enjoy before they closed. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly employee at the desk who issued our tickets. We started at the French art exhibits, which if I’m being honest, I found to be boring and a bit depressing. However, this feeling quickly dissipated when we entered the modern art sections. One of my favorite pieces of artwork was “Empanadas Dulces/Sweet Turnovers;” something about seeing a multigenerational family coming together to accomplish one goal is beautiful to me. Overall, we enjoyed the Crocker Art Museum and are planning a return visit for the near future (this time around we’ll plan for a longer visit)!
Raheem A — Google review
We had a great time viewing all the wonderful art selections. The Museum had an event the day we went. It was pretty interesting. We went on Sunday. It's free or you can give a donation to enter.
Latosha J — Google review
The Crocker Art Museum is way bigger than we expected—there’s seriously so much to see. We didn’t even have enough time to finish the third floor! Every room is filled with beautiful artwork, from classic pieces to more modern installations. It’s the kind of place you could get lost in for hours. Definitely planning to come back soon to see the rest. Perfect spot for a date too—relaxing, inspiring, and easy to enjoy together.
Angel L — Google review
Went Saturday, October 4th. Large museum, alot of different exhibit themes. 3 stories of old and modern art. Alot of native American memorabilia. Alot of polynesian ancient figurines. Alot of modern art, something pleasing for everyone. It takes a couple of hours to walkthrough all the exhibits. A great choice to spend a day, it's within walking distance to old town Sacramento.
Norm L — Google review
I had a nice time with my best friend at the art museum and I enjoyed the museum also. And I took quite alot of pictures of the art. Beautiful art.. 😃🥰

The California State Railroad Museum, located in Old Sacramento, is a vibrant and educational destination for history enthusiasts. The museum offers an extensive collection of vintage locomotives and engaging exhibits that delve into the impact of railroads on the development of western states. With over 20,000 square feet of interactive displays, visitors can explore the history of steam engines, the role of railroads in agriculture, and even view a remarkable assortment of 1,000 vintage toy trains.
A Memorable Visit to the California State Railroad Museum Visiting the California State Railroad Museum was truly an unforgettable experience. As soon as I stepped inside, I was impressed by the size of the locomotives and the detail in every exhibit. I could feel the rich history of the railroad era coming to life right in front of me. What I enjoyed most was seeing the beautifully restored trains up close — especially the luxury passenger cars and old steam engines. Walking through them made me imagine what it must have been like to travel across the country by rail many years ago. I also gained a lot of new insights into how the railroad shaped California’s growth and connected communities. The museum does a great job of combining technology, history, and storytelling. There were even interactive exhibits that made learning fun and engaging. Overall, I truly enjoyed my time at the museum and left with a deeper appreciation for the role of railroads in American history. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, transportation, or simply looking for a meaningful experience.
Mixmix F — Google review
We visited the railway museum right when it opened and were warmly greeted by the staff as they opened the doors. The ticket prices are quite affordable, and the museum itself is clean and well-maintained. The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable — they took time to explain the history and details of the trains on display. The museum features a wide variety of train exhibits, and there’s even a dedicated floor for kids to play with model trains and watch them move around, which was a fun highlight. Parking is available either at metered street spots or in a nearby garage, which costs around $20 per day. Overall, it was an enjoyable and educational experience for both adults and kids.
Yoke A — Google review
When seeing a museum of mechanical engineering i absolutely believe the people that restored and continue to maintain these locomotives and cars are beyond expertise. The staff is absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable. Perfectly located in old sacramento for a whole day of fun.
David M — Google review
Had a fantastic time at the California State Railroad Museum! As two adults, we weren’t sure what to expect, but we ended up having so much fun. The scavenger hunt was a great touch, and the exhibits are very interactive with full-size trains you can explore. The museum is well-maintained, with a lot to see and learn. Staff members are friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. A must-visit if you’re into museums or looking for a unique, engaging experience in Sacramento.
Janine N — Google review
Probably one of the top five railroad museums I’ve been to in the country. Very well done, plane to read, and space for the little ones to run around too. Don’t miss the model trains and the kid play area on the second floor!
Alexander W — Google review
Went here on a Friday around 4pm not to crowed. Lots of history, great info, but you really need at least 2 hours not 1 hour we were speed walking, but still saw and read at least 85%. No senior or disabilities discount. May just have to go back.
Tyler G — Google review
Top notch experience for 1-90 years old. Real historic train carriages and locomotives on display with knowledgeable staff that will engage in interesting conversation. And that $12 per person fee is a steal which is less than half the price of nearly every museum nowadays! Second floor section is dedicated to model trains which brings smile to children. Highly recommended
Frederick — Google review
Be prepared to have your mind blown! This place was a must to see with or without kids. First the cost of it was inexpensive to other museums. Child 6-17 was $6, 17+ was $12 free under 5. Interactive museums are truly the best way to learn and this was a well thought out museum. We also enjoyed that they had many old timers who knew all about the history and trains walking around as volunteers who clearly loved and enjoyed talking to kids and adults alike. The history museum is next door and was such a let down in comparison so maybe skip that one or see it first, before you go into the train museum.

The California State Capitol Museum is a historic institution that offers an elegant and comprehensive look into the history of California through its exhibits and artifacts. The museum is part of the Free Museum Day, where visitors can explore various local museums for free. As you approach the museum, the grandeur of the California State Capitol building comes into view, with its impressive architecture and ornate interior.
This was my first time here. I didn’t get to go inside, but still an amazing view from the outside. Beautiful park surrounding it. Lots of places to sit, relax or set up a picnic area and eat. It’s bustling with people. There’s food trucks around the block. The building is absolutely amazing. They don’t make buildings like these anymore. The architecture, the design, so much thought put into building these older buildings next time. Hopefully I’ll be able to go inside.
Francisco G — Google review
Free entrance.open only weekdays. There is a gift shop but it's kind of hidden. No restaurant. MANY bathrooms on every floor. About 1/2 the rooms aren't accessible but they have the others set up as they were for their their period theme. If you like this kind of stuff definitely worth visiting. Top floor has portrates of the previous governors of the state.
Al C — Google review
A must-visit when you’re in Sacramento! The California State Capitol Museum is beautifully preserved and full of history. The architecture is stunning, from the marble hallways to the grand dome, every corner tells a story. The exhibits are well curated, offering a fascinating look into California’s political and cultural past.
Wesley C — Google review
This is a really interesting space and could be worth a stop if you’re in town — it’s free to enter (brief security checkpoint accessible on 2 sides), and takes just a few minutes to cruise the palatial halls and get some breathtaking neoclassical architecture! The millwork is spectacular, with carved bears on the bannisters and rich filigree on nearly every surface. If you appreciate nothing else, the craftsmanship is next level. It’s almost perpetually under construction, so be aware that not all areas are always accessible and the space is actively being used for government functions — so be respectful around the more private sections while cruising around inside. The ground floor plays host to a few historical rooms preserved for your viewing pleasure, and a small exhibit or two depending on construction. The elevators are full of gorgeous art-deco metalwork and operate relatively quickly. You can also climb the elegant stairs on one side of the main rotunda. There’s a cute gift shop and restaurant in the basement as well. This is quite a structure. If you like epic structures you’ll probably enjoy a quick stop in as I mentioned before. Grounds outside are good for photo ops too.
Noah — Google review
Interesting free self guided walk through of historic portions of the Capitol building. Current exhibits focus on historical photography in and of California. Some impressive architecture and craftsmanship to be enjoyed.
Rich C — Google review
The building was amazing. The tour guild was amazing. The tour was so-so. Didn't get to see much. There is a long wall where some of the governors have their stupid, expensive painting hung up on the wall. There are 5 or 6, I believe. Not a one is hung at the same height as another. A very telling display indeed.
Tevye M — Google review
One of the most beautiful capitals I've visited! There is a lot of construction going on currently but you can find paid street parking. They give tours. There's a robotic coffee shop nearby that's really neat too!
T H — Google review
Being at the capitol felt meaningful as someone from Maine to visit the Capitol of another state. They have scheduled tours during the week, usually every hour from ten in the morning until four in the afternoon. You can sign up at the information desk right inside the rotunda. Downstairs there is a small museum with exhibits and a short film about the building's history. They also have a few restored offices that show how things looked in the past. It was good. I learned a lot. Outside is a large park area, about forty acres, with guided walks available on certain days. There are trees from all over the world, war memorials, and plaques that give a sense of the state's past. It felt quiet and informative, not flashy, but steady and respectful. More than anything, it made the idea of state government feel a little more real.

This is our go to winery! Jeff and the Runquist team share an exceptional experience and exquisite wine. I can't wait for the Touriga's release every year!

We joined the wine club so that we could have a tasting here. We were there on a wine trip with friends and it was their spring release day. This beautiful winery was full of people but it didn't feel crowded. We really like their wines and we had a great wine tasting with Joe. He was wonderful and let us try more wines than what was on the menu. The food for club members was also delicious and we all enjoyed it along with their wines. We ordered a case to be shipped home. I love their rainbow color Adirondack chairs out front. Not sure if it's meant to send a message of diversity and inclusion or just for aesthetics but hopefully the former.

We’ve belonged to several wine clubs over the past 15-20 years. Here’s the deal. This is the ONLY one we’ve stayed loyal to. Not only are the wines AMAZING, the owners are just genuine. Jeff’s winemaking talents are unparalleled. If you step into the tasting room, every wine is an experience, and nothing disappoints. Customer service is just beyond the best. Margie can’t be beat…she’s exceptional. Ten stars wouldn’t be enough. We are so blessed to have found Jeff Runquist Wines, and to have been wine club members for 15 years or more. If you are considering wine tasting in the Shenandoah Valley, don’t miss this place. It’s truly special.

This is my 3rd visit in six years- their wines are very good—-crowd pleasers. Today, we (5 of us) really enjoyed the 2023 stainless steel Chardonnay (silky), 2023 Viognier (lite and heavenly), 2022 Barbera (smooth & fruit forward). Also— these two wines were stellar: 2023 Verdelho— 2022 Zinfandel (98 points from their menu!). Wow—- great stop. Thanks Carl—- great host who made us all feel welcome and heard.

This place keeps getting better and better for wine tasting. Lots of patio space, indoor seating, and cozy rooms. Make the wine experience more personal. Plus, the wine here is great. Rarely is there a wine that I don't like at Runquist.

I enjoy the wines but I am partial to Chardonnays. Yesterday I was picking up 4 bottles of wine (wine club) and mentioned I do like Chardonnay and could I try theirs. Server told me they did not have any open. My guest mentioned twice that she would really like to try theirs Chardonnay but we were ignored. Normally the server will give you a little education on the wine they are serving but he would pour a small sip and leave after telling us the name of the wine. My neighbors all enjoy Jeff Runquist wines and I share at Friday get together. The more I think about yesterday the more I am angry. No explanation just “no Chardonnay open”.

We get to Amador County once a year or so for our CA wine fix. I'm convinced that the Runquist Winery is one of the more unknown gems in the county, despite being on the main road. Their Alicante Bouschet was new to me a few years ago, but now it's a staple in our collection and one of our favorites. Not known for their white wines, the Chardonnay was quite good. Karl was our server and we had a lot of fun with him before it got busy. He's a fantastic ambassador for Runquist wines. Make sure you take time to visit the winery, you won't regret it. It's a must for us each time!

As a current member of the Winery, I’ve always been very happy with Service. If today were my first day here, however, I would never become a member. My husband and I sat for at least 15 to 20 minutes between tastings with a very empty Tasting Room. They were plenty of people to serve, none were serving more than one table at a time or offering to go to other tables if they were busy. We finally had to get up and ask for another pouring after waiting 20 minutes from our second tasting, which had come 15 minutes after our first tasting. They are two tables currently being used in the tasting room for servers. Two of the three glasses at the second table are also empty. Our server just came over and apologized that we had to get somebody else at the bar to bring our glasses to us for our third tasting. She apologized for having had back-to-back orders keeping her busy, but I’ve been watching her and she’s had three minutes of busy while helping another server fill an order. Two servers filling one order. Busy release parties have had much better service than this Saturday with so few people to be served. Step up your game, Runquist.

Nice place and friendly staff. This was our first visit, we tried their Light Flight for $5, and their Antipasto plate. Next time I would like to try their Reserve Flight.

The space that the winery has for degustation is incredible, but the structure makes it a little but noisy. The wine are not premium. The people is so nice there but they commented us that they winery has been sold and next week will change its name and they will be selling in whole sale. They have nice variety of cheeses, crackers. The outside looked incredible but we were there in a rainy day and even in a rainy day looks like an amazing activity. The prices for the degustation are $5, $10 or $15 per person, pretty razonable and affordable.

Great wine and their tasting room is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful oak everywhere. I've not eaten here, but I hear it's great. I can't tear myself away from the wine long enough to find out more. They have a nice seating area outside should you want to stay awhile.

The tasting room sells a variety of cheese, would fit any wine. Our tasting experience was good (albeit not quick) , and we happily got a couple bottles. Seems a bit to sterile though, no warm and welcoming atmosphere you get at many wineries.

Sadly, Renwood is closing after 25 years. We’ve only been members for 5 years but they have been great. We LOVE the wines - esp. the Wine Club Zins. The food’s always great, etc. A lot of good people will be leaving - hopefully to work at other area wineries. Jessica you’re awesome. The bar has been set very high for Rombauer. Best of success to them in taking over the winery and putting their own spin on things. Great grapes and staff and methods = awesome wine. We look forward to visiting you down the road.

Their wine has improved so. damn. much. I was very impressed how the quality has improved over the past few years. And I am not saying that it was bad before, but it is a testament with what their new winemaker has been able to accomplish. I was impressed! So you can just go there for the great wine, but the actual tasting room was quite nice, as well. I like the newish remodel that was done a couple of years back and how they incorporated a restaurant style eating area there. They only draw back is the room can be quite echo-y, meaning when you hear the cackle of a pack of cougars who got lost coming down from Helwig and decided to stop here, it can be quite piercing on the ear drums. Not Renwoods fault though. I recommend going outside if this happens, which is okay because the grounds are simply beautiful and the wine is fantastic!

Had the most amazing trip on the Middle Fork river today (7/29/25)! So much fun and our guide Kendal was so informative and fun and kept us entertained the whole way. He did such an awesome job prepping us for the rapids and bringing humor to our trip. I have been rafting quite a few times before this and have to say this has been my favorite trip so far! The rapids had the perfect amount of thrill and fun. Will absolutely be rafting with Oars again!

My family did the South Gorge one day trip. We drove up the day before and spent the night in a tent in their campground the night before and the night after our trip. The campground is peaceful, right on the river which you can splash in the water’s edge. The bathrooms and shower facilities are all clean and well kept. Our guides Ryan and Elliot were very friendly, professional, and made the trip extra enjoyable. I got a soft, cute shirt at the little store. This was a great family experience for all ages, and would make a fun family reunion activity, team building experience, or friend’s trip. We went on a weekday, which I would recommend as the river is not as busy.

OARS American River Rafting was amazing adventure!!!!! It was our very first time doing river rafting as a family, and the experience was beyond amazing! The practice run was helpful, but once we hit the Level 3 and 4 rapids, it turned into an unforgettable adventure — truly one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. Huge thanks to our guide Kendal, who made it even more special with his professionalism, humor, and fun spirit. From keeping us safe to making us laugh (and even sneaking in a hilarious selfie on my phone 🤣), he turned a great trip into a memory we’ll cherish forever. This became one of the highlights of my daughter’s visit to the US from Canada, and we’re already excited to join AORS again for more adventures. Highly recommended!

What a great family adventure! We’d like to thank OARS and their guides Alex and Abigail for an outstanding trip down the South Fork of the American River. We are returning customers and we will be back again! The kids started planning the next trip on the ride home. 😎

This was my first river rafting experience, and definitely won’t be my last. Our guide, Mike, was great, and the rest of the guide team which included Bill and Kendall were awesome as well. They kept every one safe while also letting us explore the river in an adventurous way. We did Middle Fork which is technically somewhat challenging at a Class 4 rapid. I’ll definitely be coming back for more in the future and recommend this company for a great experience, whether it’s your first or 10th time.

My family (3 generation of us) go on one trip per year with OARS. My reviews have alway focused on how fun and exciting the trips are, but i never mentioned my primary reason for choosing OARS, and that is...the river is a lot of fun. But it is also dangerous if not respected and participant ready for possible emergencies . OARS has well trained guides that are primarily focused on safety, and equipped with all of the safety gear should it become necessary. Guests also view a safety video on line before their adventure. I have no doubt that my family and I are in good hands with OARS.

I've been smiling for 3 days after spending a day on the river with OARS. Our guide Sam from Maine was great - confident, knowledgeable, and silly. The rafting itself was pure fun in nature. The intimidation factor was wiped away quickly after warming up with Sam's clear, simple instructions and her comfortable knowledge of rafting and the river. This was a great way to spend the weekend celebrating our friends 40th birthday. Thank you OARS too for your well appointed campground with showers, bathrooms, and for feeding us so well. The meals were so appreciated! This mom who is always exhausted by planning camp trips appreciated the attention you paid to logistics so I could actually just camp and enjoy myself. I also appreciated how close this outpost is to restaurants and coffee shops for those meals that we couldn't/didn't do with OARS. I did this same trip 11 years ago as a combined bachelor - bachelorette party and I had a blast then too. I look forward to coming back sooner next time with my kids. The trip was totally family friendly and appropriate for a wide variety of ages and physical abilities.

I went with a group of about 50 Scouts and adults down the South Fork of the American in 7 boats with OARS, and the entire crew did a fantastic job. They kept everyone safe while making sure the trip was fun and memorable. Our guide Alec was outstanding—he helped us navigate the rapids with skill and strategy, and in the calmer sections he kept the Scouts engaged by getting to know them and entertaining us with riddles that the kids loved. Lunch was also excellent—fresh, well organized, and just what we needed to recharge for the second half of the trip. It was a perfect mix of adventure, safety, good food, and fun. Highly recommend OARS for any group looking for a professional and enjoyable rafting experience. P.S. Alec—about that last riddle we didn’t finish: the answer is to weigh 3 coins against 3 coins and leave 2 on the side for the first weighing…

Great experience on Chili-bar express trip. We were a party of 11, and went in two boats. We had a great time on the rafts, swimming in the "safe" rapids which was scary and exhilarating, and sitting in the front of the boat and "riding the bull". The lunch afterwards was outstandingly good considering that we were vegetarians: veggie burgers, yummy water melons, chips, cookies, etc. All the kids also loved the lunch. We watched our photos and videos during lunch and they came out very nicely. On the whole, we really enjoyed the day, and strongly recommend Beyond Limits. The price was great too. Out guides Don and Alex kept the kids and adults engaged.

Loved loved loved our river guides. Ziggy was a badass and river goddess! We were three families with our 5 children in tow. We ALL had a blast on the river, they accommodated our cuckoo diets-mix of meats eaters, vegetarians and gluten-free folks, and we loved camping next the river (perfect sound for falling asleep) but they also had SUPER clean bathrooms, patios to lounge on, grassy areas to play. So worth the $$$!

Had a superb day out on the south fork of the American River with our guide, Lee and Beyond Limits Adventure. Well organized and customer focused, I would recommend the trip highly. From rock splats to rock 360s, Lee kept the day exciting and was always engaged to ensure that our group aged 10 to 50 had a great time.
Iain R — Google review
One of our worries this trip was the fear of not enough water for rafting, but those fears were soon dissipated when we saw the upper stretch of the South Fork of American River. Plenty of water. There was eleven of us in our family adventure ranging in age from 15 to 71 (me) and everywhere in between. We were greeted by our guides, who gave us a rundown on what to expect on the river, and instructed us on safety procedures. Then we were off! We had two rafts for our party, which allowed us to wage many splash battles between rafts, and in short order we were all pretty wet and we hadn't even hit the first set of rapids yet. A note of warning! Don't even think of splashing the guides. It seems as if they have the ability of lifting half the river on the blade of their paddles and expertly flinging it in any direction with an accuracy that would make an F-16 pilot blush with envy. BUT....I know you will do it anyway. Our guides, Jay and Mike were both friendly and well-versed with the river and its' various rapids and provided us with just possibly the best time we have ever had on the American River. From virgin rafter to my sixth time on the American river over a span of several years, this was the best, even with the river not at its' fullest. If you have the right guides, and we did, then they can make Class 3 rapids feel like Class 4 rapids. We were doing 360's through the rapids, deftly climbing rocks and rolling off of them, and having a great, exciting time. Looking around, we could tell that every other river adventurer had wished they booked their trip with us.
Larry S — Google review
Fun times! We had a really fun trek down a part of the American River. A glitch in their communications had us show up and hour early. Fortunately we were able to start earlier because the other group showed up 1/2 an hour early. Guide was good. We came close but no one "left" the raft. :-)

Our church put together a group rafting trip scheduled on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00PM - 5:00PM, and we had a total of 34 people utilizing six rafts. In my raft we had six people plus our wonderful guide, Lee! He was awesome! Thank you Lee for doing such a great job getting us down the South Fork of the American River safely and making sure we all had a wonderful time! (Our group had people aging from seven to 63 years old). Lee also made sure we had great video shots at the best rapids, with two different viewpoints. One view was the forward facing angle from the rear of the raft showing everyone from behind paddling through the rapids and the other was from the front of the raft pointing toward everyone in the raft as we hurled down the rapids! There are also photographer's on the river taking photo's at different rapids too. Of course these are available for you to purchase at an additional cost. They offer packages that include both the photo's and the video or you can purchase them separately. NOTE: You can bring a bottle of water/Gatorade/etc., a small bottle of sunscreen, and a hat to wear as well as your waterproof camera (with a strap to secure it to your wrist) and/or a GoPro camera. No small coolers, etc. I suggest you leave your phone in your vehicle regardless if it's water resistant or not. There's a good chance you'll lose it. Wear water/tennis shoes, loose fitting clothing and/or a bathing suit with shorts (women), especially with material that dries quickly, sunglasses INCLUDING A STRAP (especially if they're prescription glasses) to keep them secure in case you happen to fall out of the raft! Remember, river water is cooler than lake water and moves fast in most places. You'll be provided a life jacket to wear, don't worry. ENJOY YOURSELF! This is a Class III Rapid

Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is a captivating destination that immerses visitors in the rich history of the California Gold Rush. Located in Coloma, this park features a replica sawmill and over 20 historic mining buildings, allowing guests to step back in time. Here, you can try your luck at gold panning while learning about the pivotal moment on January 24, 1848, when James W. Marshall discovered gold flakes that ignited a massive migration westward.
I've always loved this place. The river is beautiful and there's a lot of interesting history to learn about. The park is great and the little town is quaint. You can raft nearby. The shade trees are handy when it's hot and if you get too hot, just jump in the river but keep little ones supervised. The current is strong. The rangers are friendly and helpful.

I've moved in the area my whole life and finally got around to visiting! Used my State Park pass for my parking, and only had to pay for the tour. The kids loved the Junior Rangers activity book. Even my almost 4 year old was into it.

Lovely park with a lot of historic buildings and a beautiful trail towards the Marshall Monument. The monument trail was absolutely beautiful with a lot of different wild flowers scattered through the way, we could observe birds like quails and scrub jays around, and most of it was shady so perfect for a hot day.

One of the best outdoor and interactive museums I've ever been to. We learned a lot about Sutter's Mill and where the gold rush began for California. Strolling the grounds was extremely peaceful and offered many places to stop and read or rest. As someone who's not a California native but generally enjoys learning things, this place was perfect to spend an afternoon.

The staff is always incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! They really make it such a relaxing and chill way to enjoy the peacefulness of the area. And now that they've finished the inside seating area, this place will be even more enjoyable during the colder and rainy months! The crowlers are always a great gift and a hit when we bring them back for family!

Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty. The park features camping, fishing, and trails amidst Gold Rush-era buildings and cliffs carved by hydraulic mining. Visitors can explore the mesmerizing ghost town with its well-preserved structures frozen in time, take a tour at the museum, or stay at the campground or one of three miners' cabins. The museum provides detailed insights into life in the area from the 1800s to 1900s.
This State Historic Park is amazing. The museum is well taken care of. Small and rustic but it shows in detail how life was in the 1800s to 1900s in this area. Adela, the Park Ranger at the museum was very friendly and is a great source of information for the Malakoff Diggins Museum. She warned us about bears and sure enough, on the way out of the hiking area, I saw a black bear down a small stream. It ran down the creek and away from us when it saw us. We took off in the opposite direction.

Pretty nice place to go camping. Didn't get to explore the trails, so I can't comment on that but overall good spot. The only negatives is that some sites are very close together (like many other camp sites) and many have little to no shade (spot 19, were I stayed!). I took some pictures of some of the better sites, the pictures on Reserve.CA are not that good
Arnold L — Google review
This park is a site of California’s largest hydraulic mining during 1850s. The town North Bloomfield was established for the settlers who used recently discovered hydraulic mining method to extract gold from the hills while the riverbeds were already mined. This new mining method while profitable led to severe blockages in rivers due to pilings being accumulated in the riverbeds which led to a legislation banning this kind of mining. Very interesting part of the history indeed! The park has couple building representing old retail stores, drug store, barber shop, saloon and a museum. A trail across the park takes you to the digging site which is drivable too. Entry fee is $10 per car. Kids can enjoy the gold panning and the park staff are friendly and engaging!

Great place to visit. A nice quiet little area in the hills with history. They do a tour at 130 which is free. They offer camp sites and cabins.

The history here is pretty amazing! It really shows you the distraction that mining had on the landscape. It’s really fun to go see the old town of humbug. The museum was fun to walk through. The trail that takes you down to the Diggins is really well-maintained I’m pretty sure you could even take someone in a wheelchair. The park has a lot of charm and it was worth the drive.

I have never been as disappointed in a state park in my entire life. The entire park looks like it is on the verge of catastrophe, with standing dead trees everywhere, massive piles of wood, and the pond is nearly empty. The campground was closed on a beautiful day in early September, but I explored it anyway, and it didn't look like it had been open all season, which tells me that if it was open this season it was not well kept. The small lake, blair lake, was just a mud pit, and everything about it was in bad shape. There were signs all over the park stating that if you see leaking water report it immediately because of severe drought, but the parks own water filling tank that the rangers pass by daily was leaking. Clearly leaking and dripping from 10 ft off the ground, visible from the only road in the park. Infuriating. How do they not follow their own signs? This was one of my favorite campgrounds growing up, and now it is clearly going to be burned to the ground soon by forest fire because the entire park is dead trees and cut piled up dead trees, aka a tinderbox. Such a disgrace.

I hiked the Humbug trail about 3 miles. The trail starts out looking well groomed but the trail declines at about 1 mile and the number of downed trees and trail cave-ins makes it difficult for a hiker. It is still a beautiful trail with the Humbug creek roaring below. Just before 2 miles I turned around because of downed trees and a weed-chocked trail.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Vikingsholm is a 38-room mansion located next to Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe. It offers tours from Memorial Day through late September and features a public beach area. Visitors can enjoy snowshoeing down to the bay if there are no avalanche warnings. The castle, closed during winter, is a popular hiking endpoint with an easy mile-long hike leading to it.
Closed. But not really. Don't let "closed" deter you from going here. Arrive early as the lot seems to fill on nice days. Easy walk downhill to waters edge and buildings. Closed only means you can't enter the castle. Yet there is still so much to appreciate surrounded by nature and interesting architecture. Hike to the falls. And be sure to go the extra 0.2 to the upper falls. That's just a bit past the bridge that goes over the lower falls area. The hike up isn't long but may take some encouragement for the younger ones. Footing is flat wide and pebbles. The bottom has a dock, still waters, falls, buildings and gentle wildlife. May even make friends with a duck.

Absolutely stunning area to visit. Best to come early to get a park. $3 for 1 hour or $10 for the day. It’s a 1.6km walk down to the water. The walk up is quite steep but plenty of opportunities to stop along the way with bench seats. Would recommend to anyone visiting the lake to do this walk.

Very cool home nestled right next to emerald bay at Lake Tahoe. Pretty easy mile or so hike down to the home. It cost 18 dollars per adult to take the tour but it was very worth to cost. Also keep in mind parking is a mess and isn’t free. We parked about a half mile away from the start of the one mile hike. The detail on the home is amazing and it is truly an amazing story of wealth, generosity, and love for others. If you can make it go!! Also neat short hike behind the home to eagle falls. Shore swimming in the lake if you want to cool off too!

If Vikingsholm is open and you plan to swim, definitely go down the trail. Otherwise, I’d recommend skipping the hike because the view from Inspiration Point is even better and less effort.

A very unique home at Lake Tahoe..as far as historical homes, this seems very liveable. It's on the Emerald Bay part of Tahoe which is aptly named. There is a boat ride to the home which can be very windy even on a hot day. The boat ride captain has a wealth of knowledge about the area! This may be my favorite home of all time.

Great hike on Emerald Bay. Be warned it's an easy walk down but a steep hike back up to the parking lot, so it is NOT for physically challenged people or anyone with a heart condition. This is clearly signposted several times but I get the idea people ignore it Extremely rewarding views, and we even saw a bear sow with her cubs, right in the path.

Beautiful place. Hike is somewhat challenging back up. Go before 9:00 a.m. Even though it doesn't open yet or you will not get parking at the top. Beach is pretty, however after a few hours boaters come and completely take over would not recommend as a beach day

Palisades Tahoe, formerly known as Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, is a renowned ski resort and the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. Nestled in the stunning Lake Tahoe area, it offers a wide range of recreational activities and amenities such as a spa and various dining options. The resort boasts efficient lift systems with minimal wait times even during peak periods. While some visitors found the intermediate terrain to be somewhat limited, they praised the exceptional logistics and overall experience at Palisades Tahoe.
If you’re looking for a Tahoe wedding venue that is not only beautiful but also takes great care of you and your guests, look no further! As a mobile DJ, you never know what to expect when arriving at a venue. I can’t say enough about the friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating staff. Everyone was so helpful and kind! The views from the top of the mountain are gorgeous and so is the event space! The overlook from the bar was definitely a focal point and the bar staff is friendly and fast. The food is delicious and the coordination of all the things is top notch! I was very impressed! Thank you for being such an awesome venue to work with! We can’t wait to work with you again soon! 🎉💍

I recently photographed a wedding at Palisades Tahoe, and it was absolutely incredible! The ceremony took place at the Cushing Pond location — a stunning spot surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. The couple held their reception at Olympic House Bar One, with cocktail hour outside by the Tram Car Bar, which added such a fun and unique touch to the day. The venue staff were so helpful and accommodating, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. From a photographer’s perspective, this venue is a dream — there’s beautiful light, scenery, and variety for portraits throughout the entire day. Palisades Tahoe is a perfect choice for couples wanting a mountain wedding that feels both elegant and adventurous!

So many great things to say about my first trip to Palisades! When we got there we were treated with the absolute best service amongst any resort I've been to, the front desk was so helpful, he explained everything as it was our first trip!! We checked in the last Sunday before closing weekend, it wasn't to busy, I feel he went above and beyond in explaining all of the options and amenities we had to explore! 5 star service for sure. The room.... Again one of the nicest rooms amongst the resorts I've stayed at, it was just perfect. The kitchen was amazing, full fridge, stove microwave, sink and dishwasher. Great sized living room with a walkout balcony to over look the courtyard of other suites and below the stores! And finally, the snow, we went the day before closing day and it was still great ( as expected for spring snowboarding ) we hit 3 lifts that day, one being a gondola 🚡 the blue runs were awesome, nice and long!! Thank you Palisades!!! I really hope I have the opportunity to come back again!

Beautiful, sunny day, no clouds. Could see for miles from top of tram. Still snow on mountainside. Last traces of ski, snowboarding tracks still visible. Lake Tahoe visible from Tram elevation. Surrounding ski areas were pointed out by tram operator. He was extremely knowledgeable about the geology and the ancestral land and culture of Tahoe Palisades (formally known as Squaw Valley)

Hiked to the top of Palisades. Beautiful day for an uphill climb and downhill scramble. Helpful staff, great views and an all-around awesome time on the trails.

This was my first time skiing and it was really amazing here. The views are magnificent and the whole Olympic vibe is really cool. I loved it here! Yes, skiing is expensive but I can see why they need a lot of money to run this place. The snow is perfect this time of year for all levels! The people working here are super friendly and happy! I loved it, highly recommend coming here for even a day! I will definitely be back!
Jo V — Google review
This was our first time there. We didn't stay on a resort property, but we were in walking distance. Everyone we encountered was friendly, and the facilities were great. We had 4 days of great skiing. 2 days groomed runs and 2 days of 2 ft+ powder. There are plenty of runs for all levels, and the lift lines weren't bad. The lift tickets (midweek prices) were way less than i expected. I am glad we didn't go to Colorado during Texas spring break. It's probably easier to get to Palisades than the popular Colorado resorts. I would definitely go back.
Jos S — Google review
Great place with marvelous views. Lots of people are skiing and snowboarding. It's a good experience to ride all the trams/gondola and see the magnificent view of mountains covered in snow. Huge parking space, but it tends to be full real quick. We took the bus and a day tour. There are several shops and restaurants you can choose from. I have seen dogs enjoying the place as well. Restrooms may be a bit of a challenge. I didn't see a diaper changing area, though there are several of them. We need to bring sunglasses to protect eyes from the brightness of the sun, reflecting from snow. You can learn skiing or snowboarding if you like. There are professionals that provide lessons. It is also good to visit the Olympic museum.

Tallac Historic Site is a seasonal destination featuring two historic homes, offering exhibits, tours, and events with costumed interpreters. Visitors can explore the "Lucky" Baldwin home and the Pope home, learning about the area's development and influential women. The Valhalla home is also part of the site but may be off-limits during private events.
Beautiful wooded trails around the site and structures as well as water access that you can bike to. There was a private event happening while we visited but we were still able to bike/walk around and explore.

Carolyn was our tour guide, she made it so fun. We learned a lot about the home and history. Our favorite stop on this trip. And the grounds are beautiful.
Troy M — Google review
I tend to think things don't change much but they do. We took the road around Tahoe to go to Tallac Historic Site. Tallac consists of several summer homes built by wealthy San Franciscans. In those days there was no road to the area. Everything came in by boat - building materials, workers, servants and owners. BEAUTIFUL area - shoreline, forest surrounded homes. Relaxing walk and beautiful views. Come during week if possible to avoid the crowds.

Fantastic hiking area along the beach in South lake Tahoe. Rich folks in the early 1900s built log cabins and other buildings you can still see today. Lots of volunteer support for this historical site, be sure to visit the working blacksmith, the artist hut, and the boathouse. You can park at several different lots and there is even a visitor's center and museum. There is also a gift shop that has a great section on the Washoe Indians, and some delicious popsicles for sale. Take a half a day and hike and explore the Tallac historical site and it's many interesting attractions.

We loved learning about the history of Lake Tahoe and the early summer homes of the rich as well as the Washoe Tribe who were the original residents. It has a crazy resort town flavor all around the lake.

Great place to see the Baldwin Estate, the Pope Estate and the Valhalla Estate, all built in early 1900's. Also a great place to enough the lake, take a walk or ride a bike thru the woods. A small Museum awaits the curious visitors. Restrooms and Parking available.

Hiking Trails
Eagle Rock Trailhead offers easy access and free parking, making it a convenient starting point for a short hike with stunning panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. The trail is less than a mile long, providing hikers with some of the best vistas on the west shore of the lake. With a moderate difficulty level, the 620-foot climb to Eagle Rock is relatively easy and well worth the effort. The trail isn't usually crowded, offering visitors a peaceful experience in nature.
Absolutely beautiful payoff at the top atop the bluff overlooking the lake. Stunning! Nice, moderate climb up to get the blood pumping too and get a nice workout in the process. Panoramic views from atop, 100% worth it and highly recommended. Parking right off of 89, fills up quickly.
FFKDTP1 — Google review
The trail is not that tough and decent to walk up. the rock placed at high but you can see a great view on Lake Tahoe. Giant trees are also good to see and interesting. It feels like me in Minecraft game kind of.
Joona Y — Google review
Starts as a rather dusty uphill hike but ends with a stunning view from atop the rock. Many different viewpoints makes it a private experience no matter how many others are there. Very short; 45 minutes or less out and back if you're just going to the top. Parking is a paved turnout on the road.
Eric T — Google review
What a fantastic trail with epic scenery overlooking the entire Tahoe basin! What I would call a three out of five hike with only a 15 minute walk to the top, but even if you take longer, the views are completely worth it. In fact, the view was so epic that I decided to propose to my girlfriend at the top. And I couldn’t think of any better place to do it with more epic views in any better setting.
Trent C — Google review
This is a good hike. It's all uphill and but not too bad with shady spots to take a break. The views were amazing, totally worth it!
John M — Google review
Great trail for a family hike. It's short, but has some opportunities for kids to climb up and around rocks a bit. Trail is narrow at parts and dusty dirt can be a big slippery, so choose your shoes accordingly. The view at the top is one of the best I've seen! Great spot for a vista picnic.

About a 10-20 minute hike up depending on your speed. My pregnant wife was able to do it with a lot of heavy breathing lol. But still made it! Nice views

Donner Memorial State Park, located in Nevada County, offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and boating. The park is home to the Emigrant Trail Museum which recounts the tragic story of the Donner Party and the history of Chinese railroad workers. Visitors can explore rugged trails that wind through pine forests and marvel at breathtaking mountain vistas. The park also provides opportunities for winter activities like snowshoeing.
We did the China Cove Trail at the park as well as the visitor center, and it was very beautiful nice 3.5 mile hike. Everyone at the visitor center was so nice. They told us about the rainbow bridge to go visit up on Donner pass. Highly recommend stopping here.
Tammera L — Google review
One of the tragic stories of the pioneer west and California told here. A small museum and gift shop with a short nature trail and walk to 2 of the cabin sites of the Donner parties. One cabin site is on the nature trail while the other is near the large and imposing Pioneer monument statue. The primary/actual site of Donner family is about six miles away from the visitor center and easily accessed off the highway and recommended to visit. They will give you a map to that site.

Beautiful and peaceful with scenic trails and lake views—perfect for a quick nature escape. You only have to pay ten dollars for the entrance fee and there is plenty of parking. You can bring your own food and have a picnic and take swim in the crystal, clear emerald water.

Donner Memorial State Park is an amazing place with easy access to hiking and biking trails, cool fishing spots, and delightful camping. While very challenging to use Reserve California and actually get a spot, if you are lucky enough to secure one you will have an enjoyable time.

$10 charge for the State Park. A beautiful park with a horrible and amazing story. I have always heard about the Donner Party, but did not know the whole story. Highly recommend you spend a few minutes watching the video in the theater. We walked up to the pioneer statue and then the quick loop near the visitor center. It was a peaceful walk among the trees and by the creek.
Miam C — Google review
This is a small park on the edge of the lake. The memorial has a small exhibit area showing the history of the region. A very dated video about the Donner party is shown in the theater. This was a bit disappointing. There are numerous picnic locations along the lake road with parking. There is a walking path along the lake that keeps you away from the cars. It was a nice stop for an hour or two.

Harveys Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino is a popular resort that has been a staple in South Lake Tahoe since 1944. The hotel offers stunning views of Lake Tahoe and provides a wide range of amenities for guests to enjoy, including an outdoor pool, fitness center, and spa with Turkish baths and sauna. Additionally, the resort features two cozy coffee shops and four exceptional restaurants serving delicious cuisine.
The view of Lake Tahoe from my room is spectacular. All of the renovations and remodeling of the public areas in the lobby and Casino are well done and tasteful. The check-in staff was efficient and very helpful. In particular, there is one cocktail server in the Casino who is always helpful and polite. Her name is Cynthia. She always remembers my order and she checks her area frequently to make sure everyone in her area has everything they need. Service couldn’t be better in the casino.
P M — Google review
This hotel calls themselves a 4 star hotel, if so the hotel should maintain high standard of customer satisfaction. I have been too many high end hotels and others have truly exceeded my expectations. The manger apparently thinks I’m lying. I am sure this hotel has cameras and should look into it . I came back from Hells Kitchen which is a very expensive restaurant. I brought food upstairs and put all my leftover in the fridge. I went to room and my food that was worth $ 250 dollars was not inside the fridge. It had got thrown away. Manger said they found no food, I have my coworkers as my witnesses to back me up and they have cameras as well and could check those. The housekeeper should have not touched my things and left it as is. They should take accountability but instead blame me as the customer stating apparently I did not have food in my fridge. I feel you guys should communicate better and inform staff members about late checkouts and house keepers should not throw things out until FINAL checkout. It is unfair for customers who have paid a lot for a hotel to stay at such as this. I been to numerous hotels where house keepers makes the bed and change towels and leave customers belongings. What kind of hotel do you run? The only time they clean up is when your fully checking out. The manager only compensated me $86 out of $250, very dissatisfied with the customer service they provided and should get compensated more than that.
Leana M — Google review
Hotel staff was lovely during check in and check out process, as was the Valet and Bell staff. Construction noise was apparent, even on the 10th floor, but not unmanageable (and during business hours only). Gaming floor felt limited due to construction, especially the slot areas.Table minimums were reasonable at all times of the day and the dealers were incredibly pleasant! The only ding I would give is that there was no 24-hour shop on-property during my visit, so anything after 10PM like snacks, sundries, etc, can't be purchased until re-opening at 7AM.
Brad H — Google review
The good news is that the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Security was good, too. They are working on remodeling at this time. Games were good. After coming here for over 30 years, I have seen many changes in "Harveys" now Caesars Republic. You can still rent skis or a snowboard, and Cinnabon is still there. But the American Grill has closed along with the food court leaving only one restaurant in Harrah's that open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are two restaurants in Caesars Republic which are Wolf and Hells Kitchen. They only open from 4-10 pm and when you go there they say that you must have reservations. So, food is so hard to find here. I don't want to eat at the same place every day for every meal. I miss the Carriage House and the America Grill. Also, the buffet is closed as well as Fridays Station at Harrahs, and I think the Sage Room is closed too. So bring some snacks.... There is coffee in the room upon arrival, but it's hit and miss if they will replenish the supplies in the morning. I love a cup of coffee when I wake up. We didn't get our room made or the coffee replaced but once in 5 days. I had to seek out the housekeeper for coffee and creamer. Use your best Spanish asking for more. Cafe y crema por favor. That's my best. There is no room service, so you have to wander around and wait for a seat at a restaurant. We gave up our place in line to a couple with crying kids who were hungry for breakfast. In the down season, there's not a lot to do, but in the winter it's lively and beautiful!! I suggest going then. Not a lot of homeless on the streets when we went. A CVS is across the street and a couple of blocks down for necessities, which was nice. Suggested ride to South Lake Tahoe is Amador, if you don't rent a car. It's a beautiful bus ride up the mountain from Reno. There's even a tunnel right before you get to the resort. There are scooters to rent when you get there. Uber is available! We were disappointed. Save Lake Tahoe.
Teri V — Google review
Great place to stay in South Lake Tahoe - centrally located and easy to walk the strip. Casino is clean and the room was great. Bummer they don’t clean your room everyday, you’ll need to get fresh towels, toilet paper and coffee stuff sent up as needed. Valet service was wonderful.

Everything in this place was very clean and on point went here for my birthday and got a room and it had a great view. The staff is very professional and organized. They was doing Renovation at the hotel and there was no interference at all. I can't wait to go back to this place. They also had a very cool arcade down stairs it was very fun there's just so much cool stuff at this place.
Chava 2 — Google review
Rating on day one was 5 starts, after staying one night and experiencing the construction in the morning, dropped immediately to a 1. Non stop drilling hammering and the works starting extremely early in the morning. I know it has to get done but people are here on vacation and are trying to enjoy themselves a little, some being the only vacation they'll have this year, the least you can do is to try and not disrupt your guests so early. Stay FAR FAR away from here until the remodel is completed.
Grant T — Google review
If you want to hear a jackhammer running all day you will be in the right place. They are remodeling the hotel. The room we got was remodeled and looks nice, but incredibly the shower is only 26" wide. With the soap dispenser at shoulder height I have to step away in order to turn around. There is more room in the shower of a cruise ship.

Went here for vacay to snowboard with my wife. Beautiful scenery and some of the most amazing views of any mountain resort. Observation deck views and top of mountain shots of Lake Tahoe are majestic. Rated this 4stars because of the below: - food and beverage costs are a little bullish even for a resort of this caliber. - only has one decent green run for those starting out as beginners post taking lessons. Good mountain for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Would caution visiting here if you are a beginner looking to practice towards intermediate. Since there is only 1 true green run of length. Lift tickets are crazy expensive ($250+ per day) if you buy at the ticket window. Get an Epic pass months before and you’ll only pay ~$150 per day.

Went to this museum a long time ago. It's even better now with more equipment to see now. You can spend 2 hours or 6 hours here, just depends on how much you want to see. They have a really great gift shop too. It definitely worth a trip here.

Utterly tremendous experience with my son. We love the Western Pacific and have been to this Museum multiple times. For his birthday a few years ago we rented the locomotive. People at the Museum are always kind of friendly and willing to answer questions. It's the kind of place you can take your kid and watch he or she grow up over the years through multiple trips. Weather was perfect not too crowded plenty of parking. Be sure to visit the gift shop they always have some interesting things in there. When I love most about this museum is you can actually touch and feel and crawl around on the equipment. You can get a real understanding for what this industry used to be. Highly recommended
Aaron B — Google review
We had a good visit. Plenty of old rolling stock and nice staff in the gift shop. Two things really impress, the freedom to wander among the engines and cars and climb on some rolling stock and the opportunity to ride in an active engine cab or participate in rail crew activities like coupling and uncoupling cars from engine and control hand switches on tiny switching yard. For the hands on train fan this is very cool stuff. It would be nice if the indoor displays were cleaned up and better lit but for an all volunteer operation it is quite the operation.

The Western Pacific Railroad Museum has been on our rail fan list for years and we finally were able to make the trek to check it out. We were greeted by a very friendly docent who provided a great overview and the recommendation to add the excursion rides in their awesome collection of caboose. Totally worth it! Strolling the site we were impressed with the quality and quality of engines, cars, sleepers, and more. A must visit for train enthusiasts young and old. Enjoy!!!

This place is magical. My wife and I went during the week and there wasn’t hardly anyone around and it was just cool to wander the yard checking out the extensive rolling stock. The caboose ride is so worth it, nothing like riding in the cupola of an old caboose! Highly recommend and plan to enjoy the day up in that area.

Beautiful park with a gorgeous beach just very popular and have to get there early. They have ticketed arrival times that are unavailable or sold out most of the time but at 10:30 you can come in until they’re full. It’s a gorgeous beach but very crowded. Thrilled we were able to enjoy some time here before traveling around the entire lake.

Definitely worth a stop, even for an hour or so, but beach sand worth more time. The facilities are very well developed, as is the parking registration process. We visited during low season, so very easy. Beautiful lake views. Good info at visitor center.

I was technically at hidden beach south, but the photos only reveal my departing. I love the vivid coloring so much. To breath in the pink and yellow sky. The vibes were delicious. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Drive Mount Rose Hwy. Don't rush, chill vibes with it. The drive itself has (4) 20mph (3+) 30mph turns with the main top speed 55. Enjoy!

One of my favorite stops when I visit Tahoe. Bring a towel, some blankets, swim shorts, picnic basket, and time. You will want to get your feet wet or lay down to just enjoy the beauty of this place. Plan to stay and enjoy the scenery.

Went in fall and had no problems parking or getting in. Rest rooms open and clean. Beautiful place to picnic, walk and see the sunset. $10 to park if NV plates and $15 for everyone else. Opens at 8 am.

Beautiful and a must see. The park is $15.00 and worth it. Clean bathrooms. Nice walking paths and plenty of parking. Great way to relax and enjoy the lake. Several area to sit or swim. Beautiful coves. Highly recommend a visit.

Sand Harbor is absolutely stunning and definitely one of the best spots around Lake Tahoe. The lake water is incredibly clear with beautiful shades of blue and green, and the surrounding scenery is just breathtaking. We went for a swim and also explored the area by bike which was a great way to enjoy the views. Although we didn’t try kayaking or snorkeling this time, we saw a lot of people enjoying those activities and it looked amazing. Whether you’re relaxing on the beach or being active, this place offers a perfect mix of natural beauty and outdoor fun. Highly recommend it for anyone visiting Tahoe.

Casino Fandango, located in the heart of Carson City, is a vibrant hotel and casino complex with a tropical-themed decor. The bustling hub offers an array of entertainment options including table games, live entertainment, and 24/7 dining. Boasting over 700 gaming machines, 10 table games, and a sportsbook by William Hill, Casino Fandango caters to diverse gaming preferences.
We were visiting Carson City & wanted a late night dinner & came across the Restaurant in Casino Fandango. Reviews suggested it wasn't a great place, but we decided to take our chances. We Loved the decor, our Hostess & Wait Person (Harrison). Our food was cooked how we asked, good size portions & delicious!!! We would definitely eat here again🍽🍻

It's a very interesting casino. Very quiet. Clean. The fact security walked up and asked my daughter her age was interesting. There is a movie theater which you have to take a sky bridge to get too. We had to get a bite to eat because it was almost a three hour drive. The Governor Grill was a nice place to eat. Next time I will get something else. It all looked so inviting.
George A — Google review
On the website the governors grill offers a 5 dollar one topping pizza, I called in a Togo restaurant order for 6 pizzas and they said they couldn’t do that because it’s dine in only (not specified online) go in to order and asked for to go they said I would have to pay full price for the self pizzas (8.00) and a 2.00 fee for each pizza so an extra 5.00 for each pizza! Absolutely insane manager was rude and refused to give me her name….. won’t be going back! Horrible service! One pic is the display sitting at the dine in table the other is online advertisement!

TThe only reason I'm giving it a four was our waiter seemed to have forgotten about us at the end, I would have liked another glass of wine at the end of my meal but he was nowhere to be found, another waitress ended up having to bring a box for our leftovers, and we had to get up and walk to the bar to ask for our check. We were dressed casually and so were others in the restaurant so I don't know what his issue was....He was so busy making a production of desserts to another couple and didn't even look out way. I'm in the service industry part-time, and I am a very generous tipper for good service, but I told my date to only to only tip 15% The food on the other hand was fabulous, I had the Sea Bass with mushrooms and Chardonnay sauce it was absolutely delicious, my date had the Prime Rib a little rare for him but it was melt in your mouth.

This casino had major renovations done & it looks beautiful! The casino is bright & cheerful with plenty of slots, video poker & table games. We had a great lunch in the GOVERNOR’S GRILLE & it was delicious & reasonably priced. I had a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with fries & my friend had a wonderful breakfast omelette! We enjoyed our lunch so much that we went back for dinner in DUKE’S STEAKHOUSE! That was really fantastic! Love the soft lighting, beautiful leather booths & oversized chairs, white tablecloths & sailing ships models all around. Alex was our server & he was excellent! I had the double pork chops & my friend had delicious fish. We had a wonderful dinner & I would highly recommend it to my friends. They also have a private dining room for 8-12 persons that is beautifully decorated in an elegant setting with a fireplace… great for a special occasion. The hostess, Gabby, was so sweet & helpful! I highly recommend the FANDANGO & its restaurants for a wonderful time!

Well maintained. Nice staff. Reworked restaurants are good for for a fair price - a lot of locals eat breakfast and lunch here. Some game tables. Nice new slots.

Casino Fandango is a local Carson City gem! They have four distinct dining options including sushi and Italian food as well as a renowned steak house! Recent modernizations have improved the facility’s flow and lightened up a previously dark interior. Plus, Casino Fandango has ample convention/special event space with in-house planning services. It’s a great place for a special dinner or quick restaurant bite.

We had dinner at Dukes in the casino and lemme tell ya, if I could give our dinner 10 stars I would. Ever had a meal that was absolutely perfect? Well we just did. Service was exemplary, from the hostess to the server Alex. We had the scallops and ribeye and they were both absolutely perfect. The escargot was over the top excellent. Even the soup and salad were perfect. Did I take pictures? Heck no. We ate it, ain't nobody got time for that. We will be back, for sure. And the icing on the cake? It wasn't terribly expensive either.

Nature & Parks
Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe is a ski resort in the Lake Tahoe area that boasts of having the highest base elevation for skiing. The resort offers 1,300 acres of carefully maintained ski runs suitable for skiers of all levels. There are seven chairlifts and three snowboard parks available to cater to visitors' diverse needs. For those seeking luxury accommodation, North Star provides slopeside five-star lodging.
I have been here twice and loved it both times. As a beginner this place is perfect as it has a lot of green slopes and the lesson packages are quite affordable. We arrived here on Sunday morning. Two of my friends took the beginner lesson and the instructor was very patient with them. They ended up enjoying it by the end of the day and mastered the bunny hills. I had taken the beginner lesson last time which had also been a perfect stepping stone for me to take the next step ski lesson this time. I was nervous to do it as I hadn’t skied in a while but it came right back and Matthew, my instructor was truly amazing. He was very detailed in his instructions and you could tell he loved the sport a lot. He gave us such amazing tips and really improved my skiing stance and progressed me to the next level. I also felt very inspired after the lesson as I could understand through Matthew’s anecdotes and my own run down the green slopes why it was so much fun. I can’t wait to get back to Mt Rose and improve my skiing skills. I really hope to take another lesson with Matthew and would highly recommend him for anyone who wants to get better and learn from a pro.

This mountain is a locals haven. Affordable passes, cool events and clinics. Views of both the valley and Lake Tahoe. The food is good and it’s not too crowded. Parking is great-no gondola or trams to take you to the top. Just park and go! Opens at 8:30 for pass holders!

Nice ski area. Runs are ok. Just wish they had more snow in the winter. Maybe next year. Plenty of beginner runs. Rentals are pricey.

Putting Heavenly aside, Mt. Rose is the best ski area in the state of Nevada. We got a good look at the terrain while doing the Mt. Rose summit trail hike which is a highly recommend trail located right near the access road entrance to the resort. If we visit Tahoe again in the wintertime we'll definitely make our way back to Mt. Rose to ski it!

It was the most wonderful way to spend the last day of 2024. I felt welcomed, warm, and safe here. The staff carefully checked the equipment to ensure everything worked perfectly and safely. The instructors patiently taught students how to ski during a two-hour lesson, even though I kept falling a lot. We ended up spending the entire afternoon here.
Sam C — Google review
Came here on March 15 and 16 2024 and skied all day both days. Prices are way better than the other mountains in the area and it wasn't crowded at all. I got there at 9am and was skiing by 9:30. Never waited more than a few minutes to get on a lift. They do $69 day passes for active duty (access for ALL lifts). Staff was super friendly and helpful. This was my first time skiing in almost 15 years, so I took a Next Step lesson and was able to pick it right back up. This place is great for people of all experience levels. Even the beginner slopes had plenty of variety. As someone who had never skied on the west coast before, I'm glad I found this mountain. Cannot beat the amazing views and the ease of accessing all the slopes.

Excellent value for the money! Very authentic with wood paneling in the bar. NO lift lines while skiing on a Friday. Rental skis and boots were reasonable at $54 - including the helmet. Make sure you ask for a wide boot if you have wide feet- they have them. Pro tip: buy your lift tix the night before to get a small discount.
Maria V — Google review
It wasn’t in full blast when we went but there was enough snow for fun. The kids had a blast, it’s great for beginners and families. The food was really good! We loved Gus’s chili and veggie chili. They had a bunch of other options though. We watched the end of the UT football game in the bar on-site. Overall no lines and lots of nice people.

Wonderful experience, the volunteers that work here are full of amazing information and so happy to share stories with you. All of the displays are keep in great condition. This is a must see location when in town.

Hey everyone, it’s Nevada Lao Bai! Today we’re visiting the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, the state capital. This is a must-see spot filled with antique trains and cars from the late 1800s to early 1900s. It’s also family-friendly—kids will love learning about railroad history! Plus, it’s close to Lake Tahoe with amazing scenery. Highly recommended!

We had a blast here. We got to ride the train, explore the museum and because we were there late, got to watch them put up the trains for the night. The workers and volunteers are so knowledgeable and it seems like they truly enjoy what they do. My kids really enjoyed the gentlemen who was dressed in period clothing running the switch.

This is an amazing self tour of the Navada railroad history. There is a lot of pictures and saved artifacts of the old railroad construction days. The old steam engines and cars on display are worth checking out. It was $10 a person.

As usual, we had a perfect day here. It may be small but the heart of this railroad museum is felt within each and every individual who volunteers. They truly care about this place and restoring traincars/engines. Special thank you to Nancy for all the knowledge and an amazing train ride. And to Daniel for sharing his expertise with my husband during the cab ride. We'll be getting a membership and returning far more often!

Super cool place! Knowledgeable and friendly staff can answer any questions you have! Awesome old train cars fully restored and beautiful
Aaron S — Google review
Pretty good for what it was. We purchased train ride tickets while we were there. The train, which was absolutely amazing, only went around the museum three times really slowly. I kind of felt as though I was riding on an electric train set.

I enjoyed my visit and my experience was great. I learned many things and I left full of great thoughts. The entire staff is excellent, informative and friendly. This is a wonderful place to learn some local history. The restoritive work that they do is impressive. The gift shop is wonderful also. There are opportunities to volunteer too and as a volunteer you can learn good things.

Cabela's is a famous sporting goods store that carries a wide variety of hunting, fishing and camping supplies as well as boats and ATVs. The store also features an aquarium, archery range, museum of stuffed animals and freshwater aquarium full of sport fish.
This place is ginormous and located just outside of town, but it’s always worth the trip—even if only for the aquarium, which I must say they keep spotlessly clean. There are some very happy fish there! Also there is an absolute ton of parking and they have good sales.
Krohn 2 — Google review
Our small children decided to try fishing on a recent camping trip. With no fishing experience, we went to Cabela's for some assistance. We were incredibly lucky to be helped by Morelia. She is a gem! Not only does Morelia have extensive fishing experience, but she was great with the kids. We picked out poles, she outfitted us with some silicon weights and took everybody outside to teach them how to reel. We never felt pressured on time and she expertly and patiently answered all of our 100 questions. The kids had a great time fishing all weekend. Thank you Morelia!

The store is so big you almost need a roadmap to get around. Very well laid out with each department having their specialties. Everything your heart desire in Camping equipment, outdoor apparel, fishing equipment, sunglasses and goes on and on. The staff is certainly knowledgeable and very friendly. They were actually willing to help. Sometime ago, Bass Pro shop for Cabelos merge, making one big sporting good store. If you’re into canoeing, there’s every color under the rainbow. If you’re ever in the Reno area, stop by its worth it

I have been there many times and for simple things that they don’t have or is out. Went there this past weekend to buy 5-6 guns they have on clearance but couldn’t get any help. The one guy they have working in the library was busy with other things. Very under staffed for sure. There were at least 3 people there waiting on assistance. When it comes down to it, it falls all On management. Not sure who their general manager is or who runs to place, but I strongly Believe they need to go back to McDonald’s. Hate to say it but Schell’s or Sportsman’s will have all my business from now on. They have 10 times more things in stock and prices are all around better.

I was in a time crunch and had to get a generator quickly! I was lucky enough to have Sharon in customer service provide me quick & friendly service. She was also very knowledgeable about the generators they had in stock. Rather than me going into purchase the most expensive one ( that’s what I thought I needed ) Sharon instead advised me on the proper watts that I needed which ended up being so much cheaper. She really does have the customer’s best interest at heart.
Rosa L — Google review
Haven't stopped into Cabela's in a couple years but this visit we had someone that had never been so thought to show them the store. I didn't realize the fudge shop is gone, the "exotic" beef jerky is gone, the mini tent display that my daughter loved wasn't there and the shooting area barely worked. It was a little bit of a let down. The staff was great per usual!
Brooke Q — Google review
Lol - it's a Cabela's! What more do I need to say? It's a little out of the way (near Boomtown) but the store has all you need for outdoors shopping and the staff are always helpful and polite.
