Nestled in the heart of Lodi, Michael David Winery has been a beloved destination for wine enthusiasts since its establishment in 1984. This charming winery invites visitors to indulge in tastings at its vibrant bar, where you can explore an array of wines tailored to diverse palates. Beautiful winery. First visit to the Cafe was awesome. Food was delicious with large portions. Customer service was awesome. With our large group they were very patient and ensured we were happy with our visit. The food came out within 15 min of ordering. Will most Def be back for the tasting and homemade pies.

Always a great time and experience. Chloe, our server was warm and bright like California sunshine. The kids are kept entertained with the chickens and the playground and walking around.

Nice winery in Lodi. They have a deli and lot of seating area outside. They also have a pizza oven and a pretty flower garden. Tasting costs $15 per person. Nice place to come with family and enjoy outdoor seating.
Jayasimha N — Google review
Michael David does not leave anything out when it comes to a gorgeous setting or ambiance. 🌅 One of the prettiest wineries I've seen. Gently sloping elevations. Seating settings that are reminiscent of a Tuscany portico. The wine was delicious including the whimsical slightly sweet white called "Symphony". Took two bottles home. 😋 Their wine bar has an indoor open air feel with a semicircle round to enjoy the sunshine and gentle breeze. The garden was filled dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers and so many others. Truly a beautiful stroll with a glass of wine and friend.

We had a lovely day. Great wine tasting with a wonderful fun staff

My favorite place for breakfast. The food and service have always been incredible. They rotate their specials so there is something good and different through the seasons. After breakfast we always walk around their back Garden area. And there is a beautiful playground for kids under 10. This place never fails.
Jairo S — Google review
The wines here are exceptional! We only went home with 4 bottles, but we could have left with so many more! Yvette took us on an exciting palate journey (off menu). The grounds are beautiful! If you're a wine enthusiast and in Lodi, you definitely need to stop by here!
Kevin S — Google review
First time going to this winery, the garden was so wonderful. I didn't know that we could order pizza from this place too. Was here on April 6, 2024 and I have to say that the staff are friendly. Even though it was really loud inside, I was able to have outdoor seating to enjoy some wine tasting. My parents, my nana and her husband were able to have some crackers, spreads and cheeses along with our wine. The designs on each wine bottle are really awesome, especially the Freakshow bottle. Our server is able to tell us each detail about the history and how consistent our selected wine was. Overall, I would definitely going back to this winery again for a relaxing day out. This destination is a good recommendation to those that want to go to Lodi for a day trip. Everything about this place is amazing! I got some good photos of the flowers and even the view too.

Sacramento Zoo

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Situated on 14 acres within William Land Park just east of Downtown, the Sacramento Zoo is a popular family attraction that has been drawing visitors since the early 20th century. The zoo houses over 140 species in habitats modeled after their natural environments, including tundras, wetlands, mountain ranges, and tropical forests. Visitors can get up close to rare and endangered animals through VIP hands-on experiences or feeding encounters.
My son and I had the incredible opportunity to attend an Overnight Safari at the Sacramento Zoo — an experience tailored for Cub Scouts, though they also offer a Family Overnight Safari that I’d highly recommend to any family with a child who loves animals. The event was filled with magical moments. From a small amphitheater-style show featuring live animals like a red-tailed boa, a horned owl, and an opossum, to the care demonstrations and hands-on learning opportunities, everything was thoughtfully designed to engage and inspire young minds. Spending the night inside the zoo was a unique adventure in itself. Waking up and getting to explore the zoo even more the next morning — before it opened to the public — was a major highlight. We rode the train, the carousel, visited the gift shop, and took our time visiting all the animals we missed the night before. The staff were exceptional: kind, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their work. They made the experience even more special for my son and I. If you’re considering something memorable for your child — especially if they’re a Scout or simply love animals — this is it. An amazing time that we won’t soon forget!

It was fun we went in the morning so it was a little cooler. We bought tickets online in advance as they are cheaper and depending what day you go the price is adjusted so definitely check online. All of the animals were out and enjoying their day. Staff was super friendly and was enthusiastic.

A Small zoo, good for very young kids <7 years. Sac zoo has limited number of animal exhibits out of which a few are under renovation at the time of visit. Plan early to catch the animal feeding times fun. Usually happened between 11 am-2 pm. Zoo has good shade all over due to tall trees so a hot afternoon is fine to visit. - Big animals like Lion, Rhino, Giraffes exhibits were great! - Reptiles section had literally nothing inside except 1 Rattlesnake. - Plenty of parking space across the road. - Short electric train ride is good for kids and adults both. - Gift shop is expensive as expected. - Limited food options inside the zoo.
Yugank S — Google review
Throughout the years I have always thought of the Sacramento Zoo as being far too small, the enclosures for the animals too confining, but this last visit I noticed that they have made some changes that have improved the habitats greatly. I would still LOVE to see the zoo expand to give more room for the animals and maybe even more exotic animals. I would love to see more ability to learn and interact with animals that we may not experience in our daily lives (I know safety has to be considered) but to be able to get kids more interested in working and protecting wildlife I think would be awesome. Sacramento Zoo, I see you making the effort, I applaud you and hope to see more! Thank you for a great visit!

Loved this place! Decent number of unique animals, with a wonderful habitat for many. My toddler absolutely loved the flamingo area. Was pleasantly surprised that the closing hour does not equate actual closing time - whilst listed as 4pm closing, you're actually allowed to stay till 5pm. Price guide (as of Sep 2025): Entry 1 adult $27 A-Z moving animals kids book $19.52
Sventek — Google review
I loved this small and cute zoo. It has a lot of cool animals like lions, giraffes, capybara, red pandas, okappi (the only living relative to giraffe). Very clean and quite. Giraffe feeding was the best experience! Recommend buying tickets days in advance as it can be much cheaper than buying at the entrance which is 27 per adult.
Tatiana P — Google review
It was my first visit of the Sac Zoo. I was slightly regreted by the pass ticket. Based on the notice on the kiosk, it said $29 per adult (members $25), kids under 5 - free. However, we spent $77 for 2 adult and a child 4 y.o. and additionally, $3 for 3 minutes for a corusel ride. Despite on it, I was surprised how clean and non-stinky air is there. Animals are super clean, calm and friendly to people. Some of them even came very close to us. Mtake sure do not feed them by regular food. Otherwise, you will be walked out from the zoo or even banned for the further visits. There are many stuff who are watching visitors to preventing the rules violations. Some bioscientists can share cute stories about animals which their cared and studyed. We heared the story about rhinoceros, whose name is James George and who is waiting for his girlfriend's tranfer. Another gentlemen told us how they tried to de-escalate abusive relationships between parrots ("domestic violence :) ). Some animals took naps in their shelters (because it was a bit hot day - weekend afternoon) and we were unable to see them. A serpentarium is too small and there are only few animals. During our visit, we noticed that some terrariums were under renovation and it will be great to see new animals who get their cozy homes. Sac Zoo can offer an open-air conference room and there is a picnic area for some family events but you cannot bring alcohol there or to be too noisy that do not scared animals. It is a very good place to have fun activities for a whole family and groups. Highly recommend!
Miss M — Google review
The Sacramento Zoo is way too small and honestly not worth the money. The experience feels rushed, and there isn’t much to see compared to other zoos. On top of that, prices are outrageous: bottled water that should be $1 is sold for around $7. Definitely disappointing for the cost.

Art museum
Nestled in the heart of Sacramento, the Crocker Art Museum stands as a testament to artistic heritage, being the oldest public art museum west of the Mississippi River. With nearly 140 years of history, it showcases an impressive array of international artworks alongside its renowned collections of Californian art and ceramics. Visitors can immerse themselves in diverse exhibitions that span European, Asian, and African paintings.
This is one of the best art museums I’ve ever visited. I was impressed by the breadth of time periods and media, as well as the focus on California art and artists who spent most of their lives here. I wish I had time to see everything! You could easily spend all day here. Of special note is the unique descriptions for almost ever single piece on display in the permanent collection that gave immense detail on the artist, subject, and “what to focus on” that helps give special context on the piece.
Molly — Google review
Phenomenal museum with works by world-class artists that are household names and also a treasure trove of pieces by regional and emerging creators. The price of admission is well worth its value and I spent a solid two hours here. I would have stayed longer save for my parking meter running out! I loved the modern art on view. The only downsides were that the layout is a little confusing with how the new and old buildings connect, and that the cafe closes a little early. Other than that, I definitely plan to visit Crocker Art Museum again!
E D — Google review
During a heatwave that extended into the weekend, I was trying to think of a family activity/outing that would keep us cool. My 13 year old (who has a fondness for art & history) suggested that we visit the Crocker Art Museum. My wife and I hadn’t been in years (I believe the last time I visited was when I was in grade school), so we loved this idea and were excited! Unfortunately, this was a last minute decision, so we would only have 1.5 hours to enjoy before they closed. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly employee at the desk who issued our tickets. We started at the French art exhibits, which if I’m being honest, I found to be boring and a bit depressing. However, this feeling quickly dissipated when we entered the modern art sections. One of my favorite pieces of artwork was “Empanadas Dulces/Sweet Turnovers;” something about seeing a multigenerational family coming together to accomplish one goal is beautiful to me. Overall, we enjoyed the Crocker Art Museum and are planning a return visit for the near future (this time around we’ll plan for a longer visit)!
Raheem A — Google review
We had a great time viewing all the wonderful art selections. The Museum had an event the day we went. It was pretty interesting. We went on Sunday. It's free or you can give a donation to enter.
Latosha J — Google review
The Crocker Art Museum is way bigger than we expected—there’s seriously so much to see. We didn’t even have enough time to finish the third floor! Every room is filled with beautiful artwork, from classic pieces to more modern installations. It’s the kind of place you could get lost in for hours. Definitely planning to come back soon to see the rest. Perfect spot for a date too—relaxing, inspiring, and easy to enjoy together.

Went Saturday, October 4th. Large museum, alot of different exhibit themes. 3 stories of old and modern art. Alot of native American memorabilia. Alot of polynesian ancient figurines. Alot of modern art, something pleasing for everyone. It takes a couple of hours to walkthrough all the exhibits. A great choice to spend a day, it's within walking distance to old town Sacramento.

I had a nice time with my best friend at the art museum and I enjoyed the museum also. And I took quite alot of pictures of the art. Beautiful art.. 😃🥰

The Lodi Wine Visitor Center is a must-visit for wine enthusiasts. Located on Turner Road next to Wine & Roses, it offers a comprehensive introduction to the Lodi appellation. Visitors can learn about the region's winemaking process and the impact of night breezes from the Sacramento Delta on vine growth. With over 200 Lodi bottles available, including those from small-batch vintners without their own tasting rooms, there's no shortage of options to explore.
They have a large collection of Lodi grape wines. Very inexpensive tasting ($12 for 4) and it seems like the tasting menu changes weekly. Was nice to hang out there and learn a bit about the different wineries.

Thank you Brooke, we were so glad to have this fantastic experience tasting a little bit of Lodi during my work trip! This is such a brilliant concept to have in town. I appreciated it so much! Lodi does not disappoint with their wines and we will be back in the area for sure, cheers!
Maggie S — Google review
The staff there were friendly. After the wine tasting, we bought 2 bottles of wine, that were very well packed for us. When I just arrived home and opened the package, I found the expensive wine club exclusive Heavy Hitter Petite Sirah was not sealed. I talked to the manager the next day and he explained some wineries simply send in their wines to the visitor center with the bottles not sealed. This exposes a safety concern to us, because the content of the bottle could be easily changed. It was said there were some environmental concerns with the foil sealing. If so, there should be some sort of replacement like wax sealing. Wine sold with the bottles not even sealed in any way is not acceptable.

The California State Railroad Museum, located in Old Sacramento, is a vibrant and educational destination for history enthusiasts. The museum offers an extensive collection of vintage locomotives and engaging exhibits that delve into the impact of railroads on the development of western states. With over 20,000 square feet of interactive displays, visitors can explore the history of steam engines, the role of railroads in agriculture, and even view a remarkable assortment of 1,000 vintage toy trains.
A Memorable Visit to the California State Railroad Museum Visiting the California State Railroad Museum was truly an unforgettable experience. As soon as I stepped inside, I was impressed by the size of the locomotives and the detail in every exhibit. I could feel the rich history of the railroad era coming to life right in front of me. What I enjoyed most was seeing the beautifully restored trains up close — especially the luxury passenger cars and old steam engines. Walking through them made me imagine what it must have been like to travel across the country by rail many years ago. I also gained a lot of new insights into how the railroad shaped California’s growth and connected communities. The museum does a great job of combining technology, history, and storytelling. There were even interactive exhibits that made learning fun and engaging. Overall, I truly enjoyed my time at the museum and left with a deeper appreciation for the role of railroads in American history. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, transportation, or simply looking for a meaningful experience.
Mixmix F — Google review
We visited the railway museum right when it opened and were warmly greeted by the staff as they opened the doors. The ticket prices are quite affordable, and the museum itself is clean and well-maintained. The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable — they took time to explain the history and details of the trains on display. The museum features a wide variety of train exhibits, and there’s even a dedicated floor for kids to play with model trains and watch them move around, which was a fun highlight. Parking is available either at metered street spots or in a nearby garage, which costs around $20 per day. Overall, it was an enjoyable and educational experience for both adults and kids.

When seeing a museum of mechanical engineering i absolutely believe the people that restored and continue to maintain these locomotives and cars are beyond expertise. The staff is absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable. Perfectly located in old sacramento for a whole day of fun.

Had a fantastic time at the California State Railroad Museum! As two adults, we weren’t sure what to expect, but we ended up having so much fun. The scavenger hunt was a great touch, and the exhibits are very interactive with full-size trains you can explore. The museum is well-maintained, with a lot to see and learn. Staff members are friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. A must-visit if you’re into museums or looking for a unique, engaging experience in Sacramento.
Janine N — Google review
Probably one of the top five railroad museums I’ve been to in the country. Very well done, plane to read, and space for the little ones to run around too. Don’t miss the model trains and the kid play area on the second floor!
Alexander W — Google review
Went here on a Friday around 4pm not to crowed. Lots of history, great info, but you really need at least 2 hours not 1 hour we were speed walking, but still saw and read at least 85%. No senior or disabilities discount. May just have to go back.
Tyler G — Google review
Top notch experience for 1-90 years old. Real historic train carriages and locomotives on display with knowledgeable staff that will engage in interesting conversation. And that $12 per person fee is a steal which is less than half the price of nearly every museum nowadays! Second floor section is dedicated to model trains which brings smile to children. Highly recommended
Frederick — Google review
Be prepared to have your mind blown! This place was a must to see with or without kids. First the cost of it was inexpensive to other museums. Child 6-17 was $6, 17+ was $12 free under 5. Interactive museums are truly the best way to learn and this was a well thought out museum. We also enjoyed that they had many old timers who knew all about the history and trains walking around as volunteers who clearly loved and enjoyed talking to kids and adults alike. The history museum is next door and was such a let down in comparison so maybe skip that one or see it first, before you go into the train museum.

The California State Capitol Museum is a historic institution that offers an elegant and comprehensive look into the history of California through its exhibits and artifacts. The museum is part of the Free Museum Day, where visitors can explore various local museums for free. As you approach the museum, the grandeur of the California State Capitol building comes into view, with its impressive architecture and ornate interior.
This was my first time here. I didn’t get to go inside, but still an amazing view from the outside. Beautiful park surrounding it. Lots of places to sit, relax or set up a picnic area and eat. It’s bustling with people. There’s food trucks around the block. The building is absolutely amazing. They don’t make buildings like these anymore. The architecture, the design, so much thought put into building these older buildings next time. Hopefully I’ll be able to go inside.

Free entrance.open only weekdays. There is a gift shop but it's kind of hidden. No restaurant. MANY bathrooms on every floor. About 1/2 the rooms aren't accessible but they have the others set up as they were for their their period theme. If you like this kind of stuff definitely worth visiting. Top floor has portrates of the previous governors of the state.

A must-visit when you’re in Sacramento! The California State Capitol Museum is beautifully preserved and full of history. The exhibits are well curated, offering a fascinating look into California’s political and cultural past.

Its free and a lot of information if you choose a tour guide. It was lovely to hear the music as we walked in the Capitol; they are having musical selections which varies during the week. It was very nice visit. The capitol is beautiful and regal. Im glad they decided to keep it just as it was. The attendee (forgot her name: curly hair and beautiful spirit) at the gift shop was so welcoming and amazing 👏 🤩. We had a nice time

This is a really interesting space and could be worth a stop if you’re in town — it’s free to enter (brief security checkpoint accessible on 2 sides), and takes just a few minutes to cruise the palatial halls and get some breathtaking neoclassical architecture! The millwork is spectacular, with carved bears on the bannisters and rich filigree on nearly every surface. If you appreciate nothing else, the craftsmanship is next level. It’s almost perpetually under construction, so be aware that not all areas are always accessible and the space is actively being used for government functions — so be respectful around the more private sections while cruising around inside. The ground floor plays host to a few historical rooms preserved for your viewing pleasure, and a small exhibit or two depending on construction. The elevators are full of gorgeous art-deco metalwork and operate relatively quickly. You can also climb the elegant stairs on one side of the main rotunda. There’s a cute gift shop and restaurant in the basement as well. This is quite a structure. If you like epic structures you’ll probably enjoy a quick stop in as I mentioned before. Grounds outside are good for photo ops too.

Interesting free self guided walk through of historic portions of the Capitol building. Current exhibits focus on historical photography in and of California. Some impressive architecture and craftsmanship to be enjoyed.

One of the most beautiful capitals I've visited! There is a lot of construction going on currently but you can find paid street parking. They give tours. There's a robotic coffee shop nearby that's really neat too!

Being at the capitol felt meaningful as someone from Maine to visit the Capitol of another state. They have scheduled tours during the week, usually every hour from ten in the morning until four in the afternoon. You can sign up at the information desk right inside the rotunda. Downstairs there is a small museum with exhibits and a short film about the building's history. They also have a few restored offices that show how things looked in the past. It was good. I learned a lot. Outside is a large park area, about forty acres, with guided walks available on certain days. There are trees from all over the world, war memorials, and plaques that give a sense of the state's past. It felt quiet and informative, not flashy, but steady and respectful. More than anything, it made the idea of state government feel a little more real.

Beautiful place for everyone. Everyone was happy, nice and friendly. Great place to picnic, walk around the lakes edge, and all the people that I saw fishing were also most everyone had caught something from an average size perch to a 5+lb largemouth bass.

A Lodi gem. So happy to have this place for my daily walks from where I live all around the lake and nature trail. Where else can you see deer, fox, and other wild animals on your walk. Just a nice place to escape the town and be in nature.

Lodi Lake is a true local gem! Peaceful trails shaded by trees, a calm lake for kayaking or paddleboarding, and a small sandy beach perfect for families. The park is clean, safe, and full of wildlife like ducks and birds. Whether you want to fish, picnic, or just relax by the water, it’s a beautiful spot to enjoy nature right in Lodi.

Fantastic place to visit and the botanical walking gardens have information about many diverse plants and animals. The lake itself serves kayaking and canoe enthusiasts. Had not been here in 50 years but it is better now than then.

Absolutely stunning! My kids and I had so much fun walking around and exploring. Parking on site for a small fee, or free parking in allowed areas on the street. They have clean bathrooms, kayak and paddleboat rentals, and picnic tables. There is a playground for children and a nature walking path. They include everything for all to enjoy! Great place to spend the day with family and friends.

Casinos & Gambling
Thunder Valley Casino Resort is a modern hotel and casino offering various dining options, a pool, spa, and conference facilities. The resort has been recognized for hosting live performances by acclaimed artists like Steele. Visitors have praised the diverse selection of games available at the casino and appreciated the cleanliness and maintenance of the premises. Guests who use rewards cards can benefit from perks such as complimentary nights and free gifts.
I was in Rocklin on a date and decided to stop by Thunder Valley Casino Resort since it’s only about 10 minutes away — and wow, what a night. Walked in with a few hundred, played some slots and blackjack, and ended the night up $1,300 plus a beautiful room at an amazing rate. The staff were amazing — friendly, upbeat, and genuinely made the experience feel special. The drinks were perfect too — their bartenders know how to mix a drink just right, and the service all night was top-tier. Our room was spotless and came stocked with thoughtful extras — shave kits, soaps, bubble bath sets, slippers — little things that make a huge difference. It felt more like a luxury resort stay than just a quick casino stop. And I’ve got to mention the gift shop — picked up an awesome Thunder Valley jacket that I haven’t been able to take off all week. I’ve been telling everyone the story of that night — from the big win to the great people — because it really was that memorable. Between the welcoming staff, great drinks, and lucky tables, Thunder Valley absolutely delivered. This was my first time really playing here, but definitely not my last. Can’t wait to come back for round two soon!

Regular here; rooms are always clean and staff is very helpful from hotel. Room service is hit and miss. Rooms most have been remodeled. Suites have jetted tubs and have a very large bathroom. All rooms have amazing soaking tubes and separate showers. Love bathroom set up. Pool is great especially when no kids around. Drinks are great Poole

I had a great time at Thunder Valley. The casino is clean and well-maintained, and both the restaurants and restrooms were nicely kept. One thing I’ve never loved about casinos is having to walk through smoking areas to reach the non-smoking section. I understand that smoking is part of the casino atmosphere, but not all gamblers are smokers. But there is a non smoking section so that's cool. The concert venue was surprisingly decent, and the spa was excellent—very relaxing and beautifully designed. Staff throughout the hotel were consistently welcoming and friendly, and there’s plenty of parking available, which made things easy. Cons: The rewards program was disappointing. If you're staying at the hotel and spending money on-site, you should earn points for all purchases. Also, if you forget your rewards card in your room, it would be helpful to show your receipt and still get credit. There was some miscommunication around that and the advertised 5% discount, which made the experience less smooth than expected.

What can I say. Thunder Valley hotel and casino is the best!!! The room was very clean and nicely decorated. Very modern. The service of everyone from the Valet, bellmen, desk person to the bartenders were exceptional. We can't wait for the next visit.

They have the best Casino Hosts, Rosemary, Gabriel, Linda, and Mary and such welcoming Hotel Desk Staff like Angel. We love grabbing drinks from any of the friendly and talented bartenders like Jennifer at High Steaks, Christine at Thunder Bar, Daven at Red Lantern and Tim and Laurie in High Limit. Thunder Valley is an amazing resort and continues to be our favorite!!

We really enjoyed the band Zepparella at the Venue tonight. They are a Led Zeppelin tribute band. All four members are awesome artists! Best and most authentic rock tribute performance that I have seen. An excellent band in their own right. They need to add a keyboard player to ther band so they can play Stairway to Heaven as their closing song.

A wedding at the zoo?! This was the most magical experience we could’ve ever asked for. From beginning to end the zoo team were absolutely incredible and we were so lucky to have had this dream opportunity! The little details and stories the docents told were just the cherry on top of an already perfect day! We love visiting the animals here and it’s such a special reminder of our wedding day.

Love this place. Never disappointed. Love the people that work there. Appreciate them very much. You can tell they love the animals and they take great care of them. The precious animals are so sweet. I’m glad this facility exists so that we can be a part of their lives and they can be a part of our lives. A lot of hard work and effort goes into this facility. It’s clean. It’s well maintained. I enjoy going here every time.

Amazing little zoo. The animals are well cared for and the docent was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I love seeing all bear, sand cat and mountain lion. You do need to have patience to wait around and look for the animals as they can be resting all the way at the back when it’s hot. But incredibly worth the experience for just $10. Definitely will revisit

I extended an invitation to another couple, my best friend and her husband, to celebrate my birthday with my husband and me on Halloween. I have a particular fondness for wolves and ravens, and I have previously visited this sanctuary on several occasions. It is important to note that this sanctuary differs significantly from conventional zoos. The animals housed here are not merely confined; rather, they reside voluntarily due to their inability to thrive in their natural habitats for various reasons. Each animal's unique history is thoughtfully presented below their enclosure for visitors to learn about as they observe them. The animals at this sanctuary are remarkably intelligent and responsive to human interaction, often engaging in reciprocal communication. This sanctuary is my preferred destination, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has not yet had the opportunity to experience it. I am personally grateful for the chance to visit, as each experience offers a distinct and enriching perspective. CLynn

Went for a quick walk last Saturday, the Zoo is small but your way around it and how everything is distributed made it a very enjoyable experience, entry is only $10 so give it a try!
Ramon R — Google review
The zoo / sanctuary was so much better than we’d expected. We thought it would be small, but actually, we spent a good two hours there I lived the written stories of the animals and the very clear, educational descriptions. The staff, at the entry, the gift shop, and in the zoo, were friendly, knowledgeable and approachable, happy to speak with zoo visitors. there are ramps everywhere, so this is easy to navigate with strollers Highly recommended, especially for children
Rebecca M — Google review
This zoo truly is a sanctuary, not just for the animals but for a busy minded person such as myself, it’s the perfect place to feel calm and at peace. The animals are all rescued and they have such unique personalities. I love Pogo, the cockatoo, the best. He loves to dance if you play music for him and it’s the cutest! I also love that the park is just beside it, as well as the train, and some awesome walking trails behind the park. It makes for a great day with the littles for sure.

Visitors can explore a collection of artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia chronicling the prison's past, including handmade weapons, inmate artwork, guard uniforms, and more.
Unique museum showing the grim history of corrections in the last century. Sits right in front of prison gate, next to processing center for visitors of inmates. Makes you glad you are free to go!

Super Cool to see in person, unfortunately the museum was closed, they relys on volunteers to run it, but the guards were so polite and full of knowledge and history. We had a great time.

We are so happy we went here. It's a little off the beaten path and we were skeptical in taking the time to go, but well worth it. The guy running the gift shop was extremely nice and even though it's small the museum is worth doing. You even park right outside the gate so it's a little weird being that close to guards and people going inside for visits. Lots of Johnny cash memorabilia too.

It’s closed now but you still can go to the entrance and take pictures. The guard staff was awesome at information and knowledge.

Dont drink that dirty water. Fascinating historic stop. It's sobering why it was built and still is in use. I love the museum sharing actuall history of the prison and the work and engineering the prisoners put into the construction and maintenance of the facilities. Guards were very accomadating.

Great museum with lots of info packed into a small space. The best part was listening to the stories of the docent onsite with so many years of experience inside the prison. Definitely worth a couple hours of exploring!

To be honest, the overall impression about this spot is so-so cause the admission is $2 also they don’t accept cards payments for minimum transactions under $5, which sounds like everyone must buy something if they don’t have cash. This is not cool to the customers.

My family and I enjoy our visits to Preston Castle. We always have an amazing time. My partner and I have attended quite a few events and love the tours and oddity fairs they have. The staff that we've talked to have always been very knowledgeable. There's also abandoned housing that we also walk. It's a great place to visit and explore. Would definitely recommend catching a tour when it's open!

My wife and I visited yesterday for both a self guided tour and the paranormal investigation and had a blast. We did a tour at 1130am and took a couple hours familiarizing ourselves and learning all the history we could. We also were fortunate to have some amazing docents let us get closer looks of a few of the rooms since we were having fun talking to them the whole time. The castle is absolutely beautiful despite its condition but its nice to see so many volunteers working to restore it. For the paranormal investigation ay night, we were paired up with Shea and Jamie (i hope im spelling those right) and cant wait to come back already in the future. We wound up having a lot of activity using the Estes method where my wife and I ended up getting multiple names, Ben, Hugh, Nick (which we thought was referring to me until it corrected us saying No. Nick. Too. And later found all three of these as names of those buried in the cemetary you cant visit currently. We played bowling with them as they would ask us to roll the balls trying to hit some posts down the hall. Had dowsing rods react. Had motion sensitive cat balls light up when they were completely down the hall and get voices reacting telling us their favorite color it would light up as. I also go a photo of what looks like a shadow sitting in a wheelchair when zoomed in. Overall, it was an absolute blast and for sure plan to get some more equipment and reach out to do another one with Shea and Jamie again if they're available since we all clicked so well. The whole team was amazing and kind including the day time staff. Thank you for a very fun and very long day!

This is our second time to Preston Castle Haunted House. It was pretty good, with all the rooms and actors. I was startled a few times but had fun. My only complaints were the amount of stairs. Also lack of any place to sit down for a few minutes. Lastly, the walk outside the castle past the graveyard was extremely uneven and with lack of lighting I almost fell twice. This is not a haunt for older and especially disabled patrons and should be clearly noted upfront. I'm not disabled, but I am older and I struggled.

Friendly folks in the tasting room. They have the best Viognier in the Sacramento region. If you prefer reds, you should try their Barbera. They have a great shaded patio to sit and sit your wine, while looking out over a serene pond. In the summer, they usually have free live music on the patio on Friday and Saturday nights. They also have about 6 paid concerts with top level cover bands each year. Not sure about entertaining this year with Covid, but they are doing a great job of keeping everyone safe.
Linda N — Google review
Always wanted to visit this winery - loved their red wine blends, and the location out in the foothills was intriguing. The winery is in a beautiful valley, somewhat remote - nice drive along 2 lane roads, followed by a mile or so along a rough dirt road. You even get to see Bison along the way. Really. The winery met expectation - reasonably priced tastings, and as with most wineries, you get to taste a lot more than what they advertise. Their outdoor covered is beautiful with lots of tables, overlooking a pond. Great views. That’s where we had problem number one - I guess they advertise the winery as family friendly, which sounds OK unless you have to deal with two mothers who brought four young kids along with all their toys. The kids ran wild, totally out of control and ignored by the parents. When the daughter pulled out a tambourine, that was the end for us - we politely asked the mother to have her stop, and were met with the “It’s a family friendly winery”. BS. It’s not a family room. You expect parents to have some control over their kids. And the winery does nothing about it, since a lot of their customers are locals. This pretty much ruined our experience. Problem number two - every winery I’ve visited, and that’s a lot of wineries, drops the tasting charge if you buy a few bottles which we did. Not this place. Overall, the winery is beautiful, great staff, and the wines are very good. It’s a great place to spend a summer afternoon on the patio, with a glass of fine wine and some snacks (you can bring your own food). I recommend taking the drive out there and hopefully you will not have to deal with uncontrolled kids.

This is our "go to" pizza place when in Auburn. I prefer to make reservations online when I plan ahead because it's just nice to walk in and be seated. Parking can be sparse but slowly drive around the building and I've always been able to get close to the restaurant. Now, the ambience is large and comfy at the same time. Keep in mind, for non rainy days, sitting upstairs in one of there many cozy resting / celebration areas. The views are really fun. The choices of food are plenty and delicious. They also have many adult drinks and a full service bar separate but open to the restaurant. I especially like that they decorate for seasonal celebrations keeping it a unique experience from time. We had a family of 7 enjoy two large pizzas, drinks, and a salad for about 110.00. It's not cheap but also isn't too expensive considering the excellent service, food, and atmosphere.

We visit RedHawk a few times a month. The staff is all really nice and professional. There is one that has always gone above and beyond for me. Michelle Teh has been so helpful. The rooms are clean and comfy. Love they have a centralized microwave! I’ve never had a bad stay.

I had such a great time at Red Hawk Casino! The atmosphere is lively, clean, and full of energy. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the casino floor had a great variety of slots and tables. The new hotel and restaurants make it a perfect weekend getaway. Loved the view and the food options—definitely coming back soon! The Apex is kid friendly, our children had so much fun bowling.

I have mixed feelings about Red Hawk. The casino staff is awesome. Game selection is decent. My only negative experience is management with the coffee shop and the food in Apex. More than once I have been getting food and there is a line of customers and only one person ringing up people's orders. Other employees seem lost while the manager is doing other things instead of directing their staff or jumping in to provide great customer service. At apex I stood and watched my order sit there for almost 15 min. I asked the manager who was more intErested to beginning the closing duties if I could get my order and her response was "yeah. In a minute." Not great service. Overall ok casino.

I absolutely love how close Red Hawk is to home but the beautiful scenic location makes it feel like a real getaway. The rooms are super clean and newish, definitely recommend booking a sunset view room, the views are stunning! One of the best parts is how kid friendly this resort is. Honestly, the kids quest alone deserves 5 stars. My husband and I love being able to drop our kids off there while we enjoy a relaxing dinner date. And when we pick them up? They never want to leave! Its such a fun, safe place for them. Also, the games at the arcade, especially the claw machines pay out well. My kids always win great prizes there. The service here has always been top notch. Every staff member we've interacted with has been friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend Red Hawk for families, and couples or anyone looking for a local escape that feels like a vacation.

We stopped by Red Hawk on the way home from Sly Park. My friends first time there. She loved it. We played some slots and walked around. The place is filled with good vibes. They have self serve coffee and soft drinks.Heard from someone in the elevator the rooms are amazing. Great hospitality. We will be back.

This review is for the food and food quality at Red Hawk. This is below average for sure. My wife and I went for an early dinner to the Pearl Asian Restaurant (late 2025), which is supposed to be an upscale Asian restaurant. The food quality is very sub-par. The Wor Won Ton Soup had a very thin light broth like dirty water and terrible quality. The vegetables were totally old (mushrooms almost black from age), and very limp overcooked vegetables. It was the worst Wor Won Ton Soup I have ever eaten. I have been to the buffet over the years and it is the same kind of poor quality. The kitchen at this resort is just below average, very below average. Sad this place tries to be upscale, but the F&B is definitely not there. The employee base here is quite pleasant and kind. It is the kitchen that needs a complete redo, Terrible

Verona Coffeehouse review since I can not find it as a restaurant in RedHawk.... Management here is lacking to say the least. I brought back my undercooked chicken wings that I took a bite of the drummy which was very pink let alone had not even got to the bone which assumed was red. Manager told me oh its cooked and its okay to eat because the way they cook it. Uh hello NEVER eat undercooked chicken unless you're willing to get very sick guess he was never trained properly and only option they could provide was oh I can have the cook remake for you and it will take at least 18min. No refund, no okay I can make something else... my stomach was already turned from having more wings. So I only had a couple wings prior to finding the undercooked drummy and nothing else for lunch.... VERY poor customer service and management. Wonder what liability Red Hawk would have faced if I ate it and did get sick and their Management had told me it was okay to eat???

I'm not a big gambler. I like to go to enjoy myself, meet nice people, have good food, and most of all Feel Safe! I get all of that at Red Hawk. Above all else feel safe. If I'm there to gamble or staying at hotel, which I often do by myself,I feel completely safe. No matter the hour,or how busy it may or may not be,I'm never concerned about my safety. Which is a major plus. I don't bet big but I manage to do ok. If you go to casino looking to come up and you don't,well that's on you for coming in with the wrong attitude.(My opinion) There's a wide variety of games . Many new ones, plenty of old stand by too. If you have mobility issues you can rent a scooter at the valet when you have them park for you or if you self park ,you can call the casino, ask for security, and inform them you need to rent a scooter. They'll ask where you're parked and can bring it to you there. Of course there are those rare times they're all rented out but rarely the case. The cost is $20 for 24hrs. In case you're staying with them at hotel for instance. They've got a gift give away and generous comp system. If you want frantic ,go to that big place. As for sky r### I will never step in that place again. i left a review there and don't care to repeat it. A year later I thought I'd give another chance but only confirmed my disgust in the place. Red Hawk you can go alone, take your momma, or have a date night and actually be able to relax and enjoy each other. That's about covers it. Have fun-Jacobina

Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort is a laid-back lodging option that offers casual rooms and suites, along with an outdoor pool, two hot tubs, and 24-hour gaming. Guests have enjoyed the beautifully decorated resort during the holidays, likening it to a Vegas experience. The staff is friendly and accommodating, while the rooms are clean and spacious. The casino provides both smoking and non-smoking areas, as well as complimentary soda and coffee for guests.
The food is excellent, the service was perfect and the Casino was a fun way to spend a couple hours gambling then off to try and decide the best Prime Rib with a baked potatoes it was so Hugh, I couldn't finish it, being approx. four inches thick, a BIG baked potato and a medley of toppings for it. Altogether we left happy and full, and enjoyed the Casino, the food and the atmosphere.

Hotel rooms are older but clean and room had a balcony. Quick walk to the casino. Pool is heated to a comfy 80 degrees and was comfortable to swim in, in late October. Casino has a nice variety of slots and table games. And couple of decent restaurants. No booze served in casino. You can drink booze in the Lone Wolf lounge.

Jackson is a beautiful casino. I love that there is plenty of room to walk around comfortably even at their busiest times. The casino floor is very spacious. For slot players like myself there is a wide variety of machines to choose from. Very well trained staff. The customer service is excellent and very refreshing compared to a few other casinos I have visited in California. My boyfriend visits Jackson Rancheria weekly. I did not give them 5 stars due to the access of the hotel to and from casino. It is quite the trek from casino to hotel especially for us seniors. The rooms are nice but not as nice as they should be. That is just my opinion. Most casinos with hotels you leave your room get in an elevator and it takes you right to casino floor. This casino you have to exit the casino and walk to the parking garage take an elevator up to 3rd floor parking garage and walk the cement uphill walkway to the hotel lobby. I myself have to stop and catch my breathe a couple of times before getting to my room. I am not sure why it is designed this way. We used to stay at the hotel once a week but it is much more convenient for us to just get into our car and drive an hour home. That is my only complaint about Jackson Rancheria.

The bingo here kind of sucked. I asked and paid for 2 of each of the extra games and did not have them. So they should have given me the 2 missing games for free but instead asked me to purchase more. Plus hardly anyone actually played paper here and If they really do use a timer between calls. There is no way they could have used a timer because the calling was erratic. Not my first choice. Stick to the slots here.

Very, very nice RV park!! However, it is very expensive as compared to comparable parks. We are full-time RVer's and stayed here only for a few days while heading south. We enjoyed our stay very much. Went to the casino one time just to check it out. Gambling is not our thing but it was very nice none the less. There is a walking trail around the perimeter of the park, a swimming pool, large golf putting green and dog park. We would stay there again.

Great experience on Chili-bar express trip. We were a party of 11, and went in two boats. We had a great time on the rafts, swimming in the "safe" rapids which was scary and exhilarating, and sitting in the front of the boat and "riding the bull". The lunch afterwards was outstandingly good considering that we were vegetarians: veggie burgers, yummy water melons, chips, cookies, etc. All the kids also loved the lunch. We watched our photos and videos during lunch and they came out very nicely. On the whole, we really enjoyed the day, and strongly recommend Beyond Limits. The price was great too. Out guides Don and Alex kept the kids and adults engaged.

Loved loved loved our river guides. Ziggy was a badass and river goddess! We were three families with our 5 children in tow. We ALL had a blast on the river, they accommodated our cuckoo diets-mix of meats eaters, vegetarians and gluten-free folks, and we loved camping next the river (perfect sound for falling asleep) but they also had SUPER clean bathrooms, patios to lounge on, grassy areas to play. So worth the $$$!

Had a superb day out on the south fork of the American River with our guide, Lee and Beyond Limits Adventure. Well organized and customer focused, I would recommend the trip highly. From rock splats to rock 360s, Lee kept the day exciting and was always engaged to ensure that our group aged 10 to 50 had a great time.
Iain R — Google review
One of our worries this trip was the fear of not enough water for rafting, but those fears were soon dissipated when we saw the upper stretch of the South Fork of American River. Plenty of water. There was eleven of us in our family adventure ranging in age from 15 to 71 (me) and everywhere in between. We were greeted by our guides, who gave us a rundown on what to expect on the river, and instructed us on safety procedures. Then we were off! We had two rafts for our party, which allowed us to wage many splash battles between rafts, and in short order we were all pretty wet and we hadn't even hit the first set of rapids yet. A note of warning! Don't even think of splashing the guides. It seems as if they have the ability of lifting half the river on the blade of their paddles and expertly flinging it in any direction with an accuracy that would make an F-16 pilot blush with envy. BUT....I know you will do it anyway. Our guides, Jay and Mike were both friendly and well-versed with the river and its' various rapids and provided us with just possibly the best time we have ever had on the American River. From virgin rafter to my sixth time on the American river over a span of several years, this was the best, even with the river not at its' fullest. If you have the right guides, and we did, then they can make Class 3 rapids feel like Class 4 rapids. We were doing 360's through the rapids, deftly climbing rocks and rolling off of them, and having a great, exciting time. Looking around, we could tell that every other river adventurer had wished they booked their trip with us.
Larry S — Google review
Fun times! We had a really fun trek down a part of the American River. A glitch in their communications had us show up and hour early. Fortunately we were able to start earlier because the other group showed up 1/2 an hour early. Guide was good. We came close but no one "left" the raft. :-)

Our church put together a group rafting trip scheduled on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00PM - 5:00PM, and we had a total of 34 people utilizing six rafts. In my raft we had six people plus our wonderful guide, Lee! He was awesome! Thank you Lee for doing such a great job getting us down the South Fork of the American River safely and making sure we all had a wonderful time! (Our group had people aging from seven to 63 years old). Lee also made sure we had great video shots at the best rapids, with two different viewpoints. One view was the forward facing angle from the rear of the raft showing everyone from behind paddling through the rapids and the other was from the front of the raft pointing toward everyone in the raft as we hurled down the rapids! There are also photographer's on the river taking photo's at different rapids too. Of course these are available for you to purchase at an additional cost. They offer packages that include both the photo's and the video or you can purchase them separately. NOTE: You can bring a bottle of water/Gatorade/etc., a small bottle of sunscreen, and a hat to wear as well as your waterproof camera (with a strap to secure it to your wrist) and/or a GoPro camera. No small coolers, etc. I suggest you leave your phone in your vehicle regardless if it's water resistant or not. There's a good chance you'll lose it. Wear water/tennis shoes, loose fitting clothing and/or a bathing suit with shorts (women), especially with material that dries quickly, sunglasses INCLUDING A STRAP (especially if they're prescription glasses) to keep them secure in case you happen to fall out of the raft! Remember, river water is cooler than lake water and moves fast in most places. You'll be provided a life jacket to wear, don't worry. ENJOY YOURSELF! This is a Class III Rapid

Black Chasm Cavern National Natural Landmark

Caverns & Caves
Black Chasm Cavern National Natural Landmark is an underground cave known for its stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal outcrops. The site offers guided tours and various activities for visitors to explore the unique geological formations. The cave, which is under 100 feet from the ground, features narrow stairs leading to its depths, reminiscent of the journey to the underworld in Greek mythology.
This was a great experience. The tours leave on the hour and we arrived 10 minutes prior to the next one. No problem buying tickets in the gift shop. Bill was a fantastic guide, pointing out the interesting formations as well as the history of the place. There are lots of stairs, but the pace is quite slow so no one had any difficulty. The cave is well lit, bit they do turn the lights off so you see just how dark it gets. Lots of great pictures.
Gary S — Google review
Great tour! Mike, our tour guide was super knowledgeable & had lots of jokes making it an interesting & fun tour! It was very interesting learning how the cavern came about & the way things form. We had a small group which was nice. The stairs are steep & separate to separated platforms as you go down. We had an elderly couple that was in the group & they were a little slower but made the stairs just fine. The cavern was a cool 55 degrees, definitely have a warm jacket if you get cold easily like I do. Do not bring a purse, backpack or any other bags.. also no food or water bottles. Highly recommended!

Absolutely mind blowing, much much larger and impressive than expected, surreal/unreal experience. I wish I could have done 2-3 more tours the same day! I definitely will be going back, the pictures do not grasp the immensity of this millions of years old cave and the insane geologic, crystal formations, bright turquoise lakes, etc. Highly highly recommend!
Julia L — Google review
Very cool cave location with a good mix of cool sights in the cave itself, but the real highlight was the fantastic tour guide Mike who led the tour I took. He did a great job of engaging and appealing to the range of age groups that were on my tour from kids to older folks, and even gave me a personal rundown on the cave’s history after the tour since I missed the history it due to showing up a bit later than I’d planned! The tour itself is about 45 min and involves some sucking and walking up steeper stairs but is spaced out on the vertical stuff and generally nothing I thought too strenuous.
Scott W — Google review
This is awesome. And geologically very unique in the world, especially the helictites that are part of the national natural treasure. It is such a delicate environment. And still reflects the ignorant antics and performances from the 1850s. Particularly the still ruined surfaces from blasting the opening of the cave. But we must learn from our mistakes and ignorance. That’s why Jared was such an amazing guide for us. He has studied the history and geology and mechanisms that form those precious and weird calcite formations. And he’s a very personable communicator. Also: if you’re a fan of The Matrix, you’ll be pleased to know that Black Chasm provided the models and images that became the cave scenes!! Totally recommend a visit!
Mark N — Google review
Visited May 12, 2025 I visited Black Chasm Cavern as a chaperone with the second grade classes from my daughter’s school, and we had a great time! The cave tour was fascinating—the formations were absolutely stunning, and the guides were knowledgeable and engaging with the kids. It was both educational and fun. The gem mining activity was a huge hit with the students! They loved sifting through the sand and finding colorful gems to take home—it was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Just a heads-up: parts of the cave tour involve narrow walkways and tall platforms, so it might not be ideal for those who are afraid of heights. That said, it felt safe and well-organized. The only downside was the condition of the bathrooms—they were out of soap and paper towels during our visit, which wasn’t ideal, especially with a group of young kids. Hopefully that’s something they’ll stay on top of. Overall, it was a memorable and exciting experience, and I’d recommend it to other families and schools. Just bring some hand sanitizer and enjoy the adventure! Due to other children in the pictures I cannot post most of the pictures.

We had a very exciting, fun, satisfied tour with Mike. He was very entertaining and informative. He kept my kids attention throughout the 50 minutes and more. My girls were still smiling and talking about the cave experience when we drove off. I will definitely be coming back to visit again. 👍😃

Awesome experience! You go down 85ft into the ground and 10s of thousands of years back in time! The calcite formations grow extremely slowly and some are millenia old! 🤯 Plus you can use the sluce to wash a bag of "gem sand", which is actually loaded with small peices of local crystals andd minerals. 💎😊💎 Mike gave a great tour loaded with historical factoids and witticisms. Great family experience 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

Today we visited Boa Vista Orchards, located in Apple Hill—and first of all, it’s truly a beautiful area with scenic farms all around. It was the day before Easter, and they hosted an Easter egg hunt that our kids absolutely loved. A total of 50,000 eggs were scattered across three large field sections, divided by age groups: toddlers up to 3 years old, kids 4–7, and kids 8 and up. We arrived about an hour and a half early and were able to find parking, which was great—because even though there are plenty of spaces, parking can be quite difficult during the holidays. The farm store had a wide selection of their products, and in the golden eggs, our kids found coupons for three free donuts. Their apple donuts were delicious! It was a wonderful day, and we’ll definitely be coming back again.

I had the most amazing drive today, just cruising around to clear my mind and take in the scenery. And guess what? I happened upon Boa Vista Orchards! It's this adorable little spot nestled on the side of a picturesque hill. It totally gave me old-school farmer's market vibes, but with a modern twist. They've got everything from trinkets to jams, jellies, juices, and wines galore! Plus, they fire up the BBQ and whip up the most delicious pies and pastries. The whole place just oozes charm and good vibes. Everyone there was having a blast, and the weather was just perfect. And can we talk about how fresh everything is? They even freeze stuff the same day to keep it top-notch. If you're ever in the area, you've gotta swing by Boa Vista Orchards for some tasty treats and stunning views! Trust me, you won't regret it!

Great store at Apple hill. As I know this is the famous one. To get here is a challenge as traffic is very bad. Queue start form freeway. There is alternate exit from I50 west which we can use to avoid the major traffic. Since it is Halloween month, it has pumpkin patch which is nice. The queue for food and pie are very long. The fruits are fresh and cheap. You can buy cooked pie, uncooked pie, apple cider, jam, fresh fruit etc.

Located on Apple Hill, Boa Vista Orchards began in the early 1900s as a potato farm. Today, it has expanded to include a wide variety of produce and more! They offer a market, a bakery, a vineyard, and a deli, among other attractions. When we visited Boa Vista Orchards, we arrived too late for lunch, but I had a hard time leaving the market without buying everything in sight! I ended up purchasing a couple of boxes filled with farm goods and have been happily cooking delicious meals with them since. Once you try fresh farm food, you'll notice a significant difference in richness and taste compared to supermarket products. If you're planning a visit, I highly recommend trying their ciders. They have a cider tasting counter where I experienced pomegranate cider for the first time, and I absolutely loved it! it!

Boa Vista is a very cute little market place. We went for Cherry Days and the cherry sugared donut and cherry dumplings were out favorites. Shockingly also the pickled garlic. While we did have a lovely time, this is mostly a shopping and eating experience. I thought (before I called for clarification) it was a bit more interactive, a “you pick” type place. So be aware! There is a cute train (adults under 5’10” can ride, which was nice because our kid was the only kid for a while) but that’s about it for “kids activities.” We had a lovely morning there. Just know what you’re going for! We loved being able to sample different fruits and canned items before purchasing. We definitely bought well 😂

Traffic to the orchard was terrible. The parking patrol guys were nice and friendly. The lines in the store were long, but they had a great system. I will give them that. To many people for my liking. If that’s your thing …. Have fun!!

A great place to get fresh produce at a good price. I got quality pumpkins as well and they have a lot of kitchen ingredients and baked goods. Parking is limited and it gets very busy on the weekends during September and October.
Tye S — Google review
The donuts are great and delicious but super expensive and the line to get them is LONG. I guess because they are so popular. They are delicious. We paid around $24 for a dozen. I don't think we will return just because of the hassle of limited parking, being so crowded, long lines, and higher prices compared to other donut and pie places in the area. But if I was wealthy with an assistant, I'd love them and get them every weekend.

Rarely do I like the majority of wines on a tasting menu, but these were fantastic! We took my mom there on her birthday. Great info from the winemaker and the small bite pairings were perfect. It was also so nice that they were family-friendly! Great option for a designated driver and the building is beautiful. A new fave for my family!

Excellent wines with an emphasize on the European style of tasting. They mainly have reds and they are delicious. The tasting room is small so I would not suggest it for large groups. It is a family and dog friendly winery and the tasting staff knows what they are talking about. Well worth the trip, especially this time of year.

What a Gem ! We love this place and been wine club members for years now. Rich and Christine are such nice folks and the wine is amazing. Rich is using old world style techniques to make outstanding vino. His red wine is the only one I can drink without getting a massive headache. Arnold Rim Trailhead is a 3.1-mile trail near Arnold, California, featuring beautiful wildflowers and redwood-covered paths. The well-maintained trail offers clear markers and is suitable for young kids accustomed to the outdoors. The area around San Antonio Creek Falls provides a tranquil spot for kayaking and picnicking with shaded areas and shallow waters for safe swimming. The trail also features ADA accessibility, impressive scenery with towering trees, and an abundance of beautiful butterflies.
We took the trail around the lake. There were several spots away from the beach to let the pups take a swim. The lake is a great swimming hole in town. There is also a logging museum by the lake. Plenty to do and see to fill a lazy summer day.

Very good signage. Wonderful to have an ADA trail. As recommended by the trail website, I used the Avenza app which proved to be very helpful. Impressive sceneries with trees of humbling heights. Lots of beautiful butterflies. All the dogs that we met were adequately leashed and very cute. A lovely experience.

Very well maintained trail with very clear markers throughout the entire trail. It is an out and back that is about 7.5 miles. The first .7 miles are paved and then the trail narrows and you entire a trail covered in redwoods and a wide variety of green shrubbery. All Trails rates it as a moderate hike, but I would say it is appropriate for young kids who are used to being outside. The day we hiked, the sky was shroaded in smoke from wildfires. This obscured our views. However, it was clear that there are amazing views and great scenery on most clear days.

Spot is very tranquil! Perfect for kayaking and just floating. Water is pretty shallow from shore line extending out so kiddos can swim safely. Our spot had two picnic tables close to it and was pretty shaded from 10am till 3pm. Definitely worth a trip to stop by and enjoy. Place does take donations and has a park with equipment for kiddos to enjoy. Restrooms are public and that to be expected when arriving. Was able to catch a couple blue gill as well! 🐟

At an elevation of almost 5000 feet, the warm water attracts many visitors who enjoy activities such as paddle boarding, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. The lake offers picnic areas but can get crowded, so arriving early is recommended to secure a spot. Despite its popularity, it's important for visitors to maintain the cleanliness of the area. During winter, the frozen lake provides a breathtaking sight and opportunities for snow play.
What a beautiful hidden gem. Baseball diamond, frisbee golf course, a beach area, picnic tables, charcoal bbqs (currently closed due to fire season), playground, tennis court, logging museum, and beach volleyball court. Love the trail around the lake and so did my little one (9yo) and 7lb yorkie. Gorgeous views, low key vibe, and tons of space to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends without being overwhelmed by nature.

Beautiful as always during this time of year. Bathrooms with running water. There's also a playground, basktball court, picnic tables, and other eminties, Never too crowded even during the holiday weekends. The White Pines Committee and volunteers here keep this place very clean year round. They aren't funded by anyone, so I always bring a little bit of cash to put into the donation box that they have around the lake whenever we visit to help out with toiletries and other necessities.

Great place to take the kids, plenty of parking, good size beach, public restrooms, no dogs on the beach but further away the dogs were in the water having a great time!
Sabio V — Google review
Plenty of parking around the lake, unless you want to dig your toes into the sandy beach, than you have to find a spot closer to the beach area. They have tables and BBQ pit around the lake, and you can launch your water sport gears easily around the lake. I didn't swim in the lake because the water for me was questionable, but for paddle board or kayak is perfect.

Smaller little lake that is great to hang out at or paddleboard/kayak. Ample parking, plenty of picnic tables etc. Had a great time paddling a couple of laps around the lake. Seems like a decent fishing spot as there were a bunch of people fishing, but cant confirm that since I didn't actually fish.
Jeff M — Google review
Definitely LOTS of people enjoying this lake. The water is warm for being at almost 5000 elevation. Lots of picnic areas but if you arrive by noon, bring your own table. There were people leaving at 1pm when we got there at noon. Good amount of parking space. Lots of people paddle board, canoe, fish and swim. Definitely recommend for those wanting a nice getaway from the city.

Beautiful small lake close to town.

Great swimming hole. Water is clear enough to see the trout. There is a rope swing, a beach area and lots of shaded day use areas with bbq grills. There is a trail around the lake … you do have to wade through the stream below the dam to make the full circle. Folks take their dogs to the stream below the dam for a swim. This is a beautiful spot with a relaxed vibe. There is plenty of free parking as well.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort

Ski resort
Outdoor Activities
Nestled in the mountains, Kirkwood Mountain Resort offers spacious condos, dining options, and access to winter and spring activities like skiing and hiking. Situated at nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, the resort is a haven for downhill skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing with an average of 354 inches of annual snowfall. As the snow melts away, Kirkwood transforms into a playground for mountain biking and hiking.
One of my fav ski resorts in North America. Very big mountain, a lot of trails and not too crowded. Back bowls are my favorite area. Very long challenging black trails. I just wish they had more lodges or bigger lodges at the top of the mountain. The two elk lodge is always super packed during lunch hours. Literally no single seat available, people were sitting on the floor and underneath the bar counters lol

Stopped by Kirkwood to get in an autumn hike. While the drive from Sacramento was both beautiful and fun, it unfortunately rained the whole duration of our visit to Kirkwood. With that being said, we were only able to get 40 to 45 minutes of hiking in sticking mainly to the Snowkirk trail out and back. As we made our way across the trail I did notice that the terrain at the top of the mountain off the Wall lift looks fantastic for expert level skiers. While there isn't much of a base village or things to do after a day of hiking or skiing, we would still love to ski here too someday, the terrain looks outstanding!

Love this place for skiing. Beautiful and fun. Most of the lifts are old style, too fast, and sometimes challenging to navigate with kids. Parking is also a bit of a challenge (though reservations help).

Beautiful alpine ski slopes even in the middle of April, excellent for both novice and advanced skiers. Lots of food options and no parking problems. Reserve in advance when possible.
Denis A — Google review
Medium sized ski resort during the winter. We always have 4 people in the car so free parking with reservation, otherwise you need to go after noon or it's $20. Free shuttle that runs from one end of the frontside to the other. We usually ski the backside unless it's too windy or snowy (low visibility) and slippery ice. 24/25 was my first season. Harder than northstar which I only went to once in april? but easier than park city (utah). This ski resort is on the epic pass and I only came on weekends. Timber creek area on the right if you face the mountain is the beginner area. Food lodge with lockers and bathrooms at the bottom. It'll probably be where I'll be spending most of my time this season. Snow usually leaves a lot to be desired because of climate change. I got one day of powder last season out of 15-ish days.

Beautiful area, winter or summer. 2300 skiable acres with a variety of skill levels, Kirkwood is an enjoyable area without the heavy Tahoe traffic. In the summer, Beautiful hikes, lakes close by and more secluded then some areas.

I drove 6 hours to take a week's vacation with my family. We arrived very tired, we wanted to take a bath and rest, the bathtub was super dirty, we went down to take a bath in the hot tube and it doesn't work and the area is very dirty. I'm sharing some photos so that if you are going to book in this place, be careful.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort is a great spot for a snow day. The slopes are well-maintained, with options for all skill levels. Parking is simple and convenient, which makes getting there easy. The restaurant serves good food to warm you up, and the overall vibe is friendly. Definitely worth visiting!

Nestled in the stunning Lake Tahoe area, it offers a wide range of recreational activities and amenities such as a spa and various dining options. If you’re looking for a Tahoe wedding venue that is not only beautiful but also takes great care of you and your guests, look no further! As a mobile DJ, you never know what to expect when arriving at a venue. I can’t say enough about the friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating staff. Everyone was so helpful and kind! The views from the top of the mountain are gorgeous and so is the event space! The overlook from the bar was definitely a focal point and the bar staff is friendly and fast. The food is delicious and the coordination of all the things is top notch! I was very impressed! Thank you for being such an awesome venue to work with! We can’t wait to work with you again soon! 🎉💍

I recently photographed a wedding at Palisades Tahoe, and it was absolutely incredible! The ceremony took place at the Cushing Pond location — a stunning spot surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. The couple held their reception at Olympic House Bar One, with cocktail hour outside by the Tram Car Bar, which added such a fun and unique touch to the day. The venue staff were so helpful and accommodating, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. From a photographer’s perspective, this venue is a dream — there’s beautiful light, scenery, and variety for portraits throughout the entire day. Palisades Tahoe is a perfect choice for couples wanting a mountain wedding that feels both elegant and adventurous!

So many great things to say about my first trip to Palisades! When we got there we were treated with the absolute best service amongst any resort I've been to, the front desk was so helpful, he explained everything as it was our first trip!! We checked in the last Sunday before closing weekend, it wasn't to busy, I feel he went above and beyond in explaining all of the options and amenities we had to explore! 5 star service for sure. The room.... Again one of the nicest rooms amongst the resorts I've stayed at, it was just perfect. The kitchen was amazing, full fridge, stove microwave, sink and dishwasher. Great sized living room with a walkout balcony to over look the courtyard of other suites and below the stores! And finally, the snow, we went the day before closing day and it was still great ( as expected for spring snowboarding ) we hit 3 lifts that day, one being a gondola 🚡 the blue runs were awesome, nice and long!! Thank you Palisades!!! I really hope I have the opportunity to come back again!

Beautiful, sunny day, no clouds. Could see for miles from top of tram. Still snow on mountainside. Last traces of ski, snowboarding tracks still visible. Lake Tahoe visible from Tram elevation. Surrounding ski areas were pointed out by tram operator. He was extremely knowledgeable about the geology and the ancestral land and culture of Tahoe Palisades (formally known as Squaw Valley)

Hiked to the top of Palisades. Beautiful day for an uphill climb and downhill scramble. Helpful staff, great views and an all-around awesome time on the trails.

This was my first time skiing and it was really amazing here. The views are magnificent and the whole Olympic vibe is really cool. I loved it here! Yes, skiing is expensive but I can see why they need a lot of money to run this place. The snow is perfect this time of year for all levels! The people working here are super friendly and happy! I loved it, highly recommend coming here for even a day! I will definitely be back!
Jo V — Google review
This was our first time there. We didn't stay on a resort property, but we were in walking distance. Everyone we encountered was friendly, and the facilities were great. We had 4 days of great skiing. 2 days groomed runs and 2 days of 2 ft+ powder. There are plenty of runs for all levels, and the lift lines weren't bad. The lift tickets (midweek prices) were way less than i expected. I am glad we didn't go to Colorado during Texas spring break. It's probably easier to get to Palisades than the popular Colorado resorts. I would definitely go back.
Jos S — Google review
Great place with marvelous views. Lots of people are skiing and snowboarding. It's a good experience to ride all the trams/gondola and see the magnificent view of mountains covered in snow. Huge parking space, but it tends to be full real quick. We took the bus and a day tour. There are several shops and restaurants you can choose from. I have seen dogs enjoying the place as well. Restrooms may be a bit of a challenge. I didn't see a diaper changing area, though there are several of them. We need to bring sunglasses to protect eyes from the brightness of the sun, reflecting from snow. You can learn skiing or snowboarding if you like. There are professionals that provide lessons. It is also good to visit the Olympic museum.

Inspiration Point (Emerald Bay) is a state park that offers spectacular views of a Scandinavian castle and a lake. Visitors can find information boards and restrooms to make their visit more comfortable. The place tends to get crowded, making it hard to find parking space, as many people come here to enjoy the stunning views. However, some visitors may feel disappointed by the number of trees blocking their view of the bay.
An absolute MUST SEE when in Lake Tahoe! This scenic outlook truly lives up to its name… Inspiration Point!!! Guaranteed breathtakingly beautiful panoramic views of the crystal-clear lake and surrounding mountain scape. A must-stop spot for photos 📸 and a great place to take in a geological masterpiece & natural beauty.

Every time I come here to Inspiration Point in Emerald Bay, I’m amazed all over again. The blue lake surrounded by tall trees and cliffs never gets old. Spending a few hours here is always peaceful and refreshing. The trip from Sacramento is definitely worth it for this beautiful, calm spot in nature.

You'll find some of the most stunning views of Lake Tahoe here! We were happy to see that the roads are well-maintained and that there's a dedicated bike lane for most of the trip—perfect for a scenic ride. Parking isn't free, and since I'm not sure of the exact hours, I'd suggest looking them up beforehand to make your trip as smooth as possible. Definitely a must-see spot!

Amazing views of Emerald Bay, absolutely breathtaking! Came here after visiting South Lake Tahoe, but be careful driving coming from the east. You’ll be driving on the lake view side near some cliffs with no guard rails and the roads were winding. Drive slow and be safe! There’s also a small creek running through this area and pretty cool to hear the water running. No one there to collect the fee, but it was like $10 which we placed in an envelope and dropped into a box slot.
Sam T — Google review
A beautiful place to look out and see Lake Tahoo. There is a $6 fee for parking for less than 30 minutes. The bathrooms are pit toilets and no hand sanitizer--come prepared.

This was my last day in Lake Tahoe and I woke up early to see the sunrise on Emerald Bay. It was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had in my life. My mom, daughter, friend and myself were there alone until 7:00 it was priceless.

First grand view of the Emerald Bay, if you are approaching from the south side. Great view of the bay, the Fennel Island and upper end of the Eagle Falls. This place is not only rich in it's natural beauty but also in several stories that have taken birth here over the century.

Hiking Trails
Eagle Rock Trailhead offers easy access and free parking, making it a convenient starting point for a short hike with stunning panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. The trail is less than a mile long, providing hikers with some of the best vistas on the west shore of the lake. With a moderate difficulty level, the 620-foot climb to Eagle Rock is relatively easy and well worth the effort. The trail isn't usually crowded, offering visitors a peaceful experience in nature.
Absolutely beautiful payoff at the top atop the bluff overlooking the lake. Stunning! Nice, moderate climb up to get the blood pumping too and get a nice workout in the process. Panoramic views from atop, 100% worth it and highly recommended. Parking right off of 89, fills up quickly.
FFKDTP1 — Google review
The trail is not that tough and decent to walk up. the rock placed at high but you can see a great view on Lake Tahoe. Giant trees are also good to see and interesting. It feels like me in Minecraft game kind of.
Joona Y — Google review
Starts as a rather dusty uphill hike but ends with a stunning view from atop the rock. Many different viewpoints makes it a private experience no matter how many others are there. Very short; 45 minutes or less out and back if you're just going to the top. Parking is a paved turnout on the road.
Eric T — Google review
What a fantastic trail with epic scenery overlooking the entire Tahoe basin! What I would call a three out of five hike with only a 15 minute walk to the top, but even if you take longer, the views are completely worth it. In fact, the view was so epic that I decided to propose to my girlfriend at the top. And I couldn’t think of any better place to do it with more epic views in any better setting.
Trent C — Google review
This is a good hike. It's all uphill and but not too bad with shady spots to take a break. The views were amazing, totally worth it!
John M — Google review
Great trail for a family hike. It's short, but has some opportunities for kids to climb up and around rocks a bit. Trail is narrow at parts and dusty dirt can be a big slippery, so choose your shoes accordingly. The view at the top is one of the best I've seen! Great spot for a vista picnic.
Stephanie W — Google review
About a 10-20 minute hike up depending on your speed. My pregnant wife was able to do it with a lot of heavy breathing lol. But still made it! Nice views
