Super friendly team and very professional. Obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about the sport and the history. Cameron is an excellent pilot with a lot of knowledge about the local area and the history of ballooning. The views were incredible and finishing it off with a snack and a toast was perfect. 10/10 would do again!

Fantastic service! Camelot Balloons was by far the most fun I have ever had in any sort of recreation aviation! The service was superb, the staff were delightful and cheerful, Merlin was spectacular and a true flying ace, the whole experience was magical! Bring an extra $100 for the pictures and slide show because you'll be begging to get a copy from their professional photographer, Scott. Again, I can't stress enough how amazing this experience was, I would go again in a heartbeat.
Michael U — Google review
We had a nice experience though we did not venture far from the take-off spot through out our entire flight - a little disappointing but likely necessary given the terrain. There was a nice post flight champagne gathering with other patrons with some fun story telling by the pilot of ballooning history and personal flight experiences.

What a great morning. My pilot Bruce was really great providing history and interesting balloon related facts. Worth every penny

Hanging Lake

Nature & Parks
Hiking Trails
Hanging Lake is a stunning natural wonder located high up in the rocks of Glenwood Canyon. The small, pristine lake is fed by waterfalls and appears to be hanging near the edge of a steep drop-off, creating a breathtaking illusion. Visitors can access the lake via a 1.2-mile hiking trail with benches along the way for resting and taking in the scenic views. A permit or reservation is required for this popular hike, which can be obtained online for a fee.
🌿 Absolutely stunning and worth every penny! 🌿 Hanging Lake is one of the most beautiful hikes in Colorado. The trail is short and scenic, leading to a magical lake with turquoise water and cascading waterfalls. It feels like stepping into a hidden paradise. Reservations are required ($12 per person), which helps keep the area protected and peaceful. The path is rocky in places, so good shoes and water are a must. Don’t miss Spouting Rock just above the lakewater pours straight out of the cliff, and it’s unforgettable. Perfect for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone looking to recharge in a truly special place.
Nima S — Google review
It wasn't as bad as thought. Even though it's a 1000 ft of climbing, the steps are spaced out at just the right amount of distance for your muscles to relax a little...I'm 150lbs and in my late 40's and completed it in 2.5 hrs including many stops for photos"
Lili — Google review
To state how beautiful the lake is, it would oversimplify how the mist from the lake gently sprays on the skin, cold air blowing after an exhausting hike many steps up. I had to wake up early to arrive there around 8 with my family. For entry, a reservation is needed to be permitted in; lucky, we were prepared with one. Before entering the trail, there was construction happening to the parking lot and parts of the trail that were blocked off. Near where the hiking trail begins, a section of the sidewalk is blocked, and we walk where barriers are connected to the other side. There are no struggles that happen at the beginning of the trail, thankfully. When hiking up, I thought it would take many minutes to get to the lake, but it was shocked when I saw the last stone staircase under 30 minutes. I am amused how the trail, known to be really rocky and loose with rumble, was a simple journey to walk through. Now, the lake itself is gorgeous to look at and take photos, but the path too has delightful details that make the journey already worth the visit. Honestly, writing a review on this location is a favor to go outside and take a break from the clutter-y week. Take care of yourself ❤️

The Hanging Lake Trail is about 2 miles long with some elevation, but it’s an easy hike thanks to the steps along the way. The lake at the end is beautiful, and the view is absolutely spectacular. We’ll definitely do it again!
Tiffany L — Google review
Nice little hike. Very scenic at the top. Don't give up. If you can do the Manitou incline this is a piece of cake. Very rocky wear shoes with traction.
Dora B — Google review
Beautiful, well maintained trail. Recommend getting permit beforehand. The steps were quite a workout but doable with lots of breaks in the shade. Bring extra water! We ran out near the top of the trail. My 10 year old with asthma made it and said it was absolutely worth it ! The lake is gorgeous, dreamy, better than expected. Absolutely worth the hike. Bring a snack to lunch at the lake before heading back down. In total took us 2.5 hours round trip moving at a reasonably slow pace.
W. R — Google review
This hike was beautiful. Trail is well maintained, and the payoff is worth the climb. I would definitely recommend hiking boots for this trail.
Elena W — Google review
Awesome lake to check out! It’s a punchy little climb up but once there the mystique of the lake is worth it. We came on a weekday in October and it wasn’t too bad busy-wise. On weekend I can see this place being way too busy. Also note $12 pp entry fee.

Perched atop Iron Mountain in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park offers a unique blend of thrilling amusement park attractions and stunning mountain vistas. Visitors can enjoy a variety of experiences, from guided cave tours to adrenaline-pumping rides like the Alpine Coaster and Giant Canyon Swing. Families can delight in kid-friendly attractions such as the Wild West Express roller coaster and Mine Wheel Ferris wheel.
Absolutely worth coming to check this place out. The rides were simple and fun. The cave tour was fun. The food was good enough. Don't expect nice restaurant quality food. But we enjoyed it. Draft beer was yummy. The views were absolutely beautiful and the gondola that takes you up there, was super super fun. The employees all were nice. We didn't find a rude person up there at all. The vibe was great. We stayed up there from open to close. Took our time experiencing everything and riding the rides several times. The gift shop has surprisingly fair prices. This place i would say is a must visit if you are in Glenwood Springs or near. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely come back when we can. Thank you.
James — Google review
Lovely, smaller amusement park with plenty to do. Our group went during the week (Thursday) and had a blast. Line wait times were short and all the rides were exciting. The food was also pretty decent (burgers and chicken tenders - as to be expected with these locations). I highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance and paying a little extra ($10 when we went) for preferred parking. It's absolutely worth it as you can park right next to (if not very close) the gondolas that take you to the park.
Keev — Google review
Took my dad and my son here. My dad loves these rides. They’re unique because they’re hanging over the mountain, which adds a little extra thrill. It’s a great place not a lot of lines. We usually go in September October. Beautiful view from the mountain tops and the food is not that bad. The Cape tours are pretty cool too. The people that give the tour seem like they really enjoy it and are very knowledgeable about how caves work and all of the formations..
Izak R — Google review
The views are stunning. The prices are reasonable. The coaster is probably one of the funnest things I’ve ever done and the cave tours are absolutely amazing if you have kids or even just if you’re an adult, the gondola ride is really fun and just the views when you come out of the caves or up top I absolutely love it here and if you’re visiting, you should check it out and do all of the rides and all of the cave tours, the guides and the tour guides are absolutely amazing extremely knowledgeable extremely funny. I absolutely love every time I come to visit going to Glenwood Springs and go to the adventure park.
Ghost — Google review
Being a park and coaster enthusiast I’ve been to many parks. I had heard mostly good things about Glenwood Caverns and decided to take a day trip up there with a friend. I was thoroughly impressed with the park! The pricing felt reasonable for the attractions offered, service and staff were excellent, the atmosphere was quite nice, the food was decent, and the rides were of a good quality overall! I especially enjoyed the cave tours and 4 coasters! The tour guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and made for a fun experience inside both caves! I do wish they had a few more rides with more variety, but what they have is great!
Josh C — Google review
After I got around the hiccup that was me figuring out the free parking, the GCAP was a excellent addition to my Glenwood experience. The views up there are hard to beat, and while we intitially were up there in nothing but rain and fog, when the clouds finally parted it was truly magical. It is to be noted that the adventure park is a bit limited to what younger children can do (think 10 and under) and some of the rides are a bit too high intensity for those of young age and wrangling any youngsters in caves can also be a hassle. I wasn't wrangling children myself but parents be aware. The caverns are absolutely stunning but the Fairy Cavern miiiight trigger the unknowning claustrophobic (don't find out the hard way folks) Overall - lovely experience - definitely recommend.
Paige K — Google review
Yes you can drive up on Transfer Trail, up to the lot where I took these picture. Transfer Trail is a free public road. There is a separate back service only private road with restricted access to Glenwood Cavern Adventure park that is not open to the public. It is gated with no trespassing, but all other roads are free and open to the public. It is a totally free drive, mostly gravel, but no need for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Nice place to stop, enjoy the views, enjoy your picnic lunch. If you like, you can also visit Glenwood Adventure Park, ride the Gondola up and enjoy all the park has to offer. Gate passes run from $37 to $84 per person per day. I didn't see any family friendly pricing options on their website. Enjoy.
David B — Google review
We visited a weekday at the end of October and it was fantastic. Only one food vendor was open at this time but that’s the only downside. The rides are fantastic for adrenaline junkies and there were little to no lines. We love a good cave as well and the tours were great! Highly recommend the black light tour of fairy caves.

The John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen is a serene retreat dedicated to the beloved singer-songwriter. Nestled near the Aspen Art Museum in Rio Grande Park, this memorial features engraved rocks with Denver's name and lyrics. Visitors can enjoy the lush flower garden and tranquil atmosphere, making it a must-visit even for non-fans. The sanctuary offers a peaceful escape for contemplation and exploration, with a children's area adding an extra touch of fun for families.
Beautiful walk through a stream with stepping stones, beautiful flowers, etched rocks, and peaceful surroundings. Special moments with lyrics and poetry, remembering the great John Denver.

A Beautiful Tribute to a Musical Legend What an absolutely magical experience! The John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen is a hidden gem that captures the heart and soul of one of Colorado’s most beloved artists. Walking through this peaceful sanctuary feels like stepping into John’s world - each engraved stone tells a piece of his story through his own words, lyrics, and reflections. The setting is breathtaking, perfectly positioned along the Roaring Fork River with the stunning Aspen landscape as a backdrop. It’s exactly the kind of place John would have loved - serene, natural, and inspiring. Reading his memories carved into the stones while surrounded by the mountains and nature he sang about so beautifully gave me chills. The sanctuary is thoughtfully designed, allowing visitors to meander at their own pace and really absorb the words and music that meant so much to him. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering his legacy, this place offers a deeply moving experience. I found myself humming “Rocky Mountain High” as I walked the peaceful paths. This is more than just a memorial - it’s a celebration of an artist who truly understood the beauty of Colorado and shared that love with the world. A must-visit for anyone in Aspen who appreciates music, nature, or simply wants a moment of reflection in a truly special place. Highly recommend taking your time here and bringing a camera - the combination of meaningful words and natural beauty makes for an unforgettable visit.
Danny V — Google review
Beautiful place. We had trouble finding the actual walk. There was a homeless guy sleeping in some trees by the river tho. But we had a short wander, cruised an old bridge, saw some art, said we would come back next visit.
Kelly H — Google review
I loved this place. Went there several times during my stay in Aspen. It is so well manicured and beautiful in the morning and sunset. I took a million pictures and became John Denver fan!
Danielly P — Google review
Very nice way to honor John Denver. The sanctuary is well thought out and a tribute to his love of nature. The rock garden can be emotional with the lyrics of some of his most popular songs on them. Parking can be a challenge. There were games going on in the adjacent park, so had to park down the street.
Dennis G — Google review
The John Denver Sanctuary is pure magic. Peaceful paths, inspiring words carved into stone, and an atmosphere that feels like shooting hoops up in the sky ⛹🏼 Everything here is serene, uplifting, and unforgettable.
Andrew S — Google review
Even in light rain this place is beautiful and Free. Footing can be a little tricky when wandering. Not really wheelchair friendly.
Alice T — Google review
As a John Denver fan, I figured I would love this place, but it exceeded expectations. The flowing water and manicured grounds provided by this little sanctuary are incredibly well conceived. The fall colors during peak week made the garden pop. Highly recommended during the first week of October for anyone looking to breathe in some peace and serenity, not just those who appreciate Denver's songwriting. Insightful quotes and beautiful scenery are a perfect way to reflect, regardless of your taste in music.

Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort is a renowned destination with four expansive ski areas, including the largest one, Snowmass Ski Area. This mountain offers a variety of terrain and uncrowded slopes, making it popular among skiers. The resort also provides winter activities such as cross-country skiing, snow tubing, and ice skating. In addition to skiing, visitors can enjoy high mountain hiking in the area around Aspen Snowmass during the summer months.
This place is pretty incredible! We came just to ride the mountain coaster, but there's so much to do and the facility looks brand new. Staff is also extremely friendly!

First time on the mountain and what a great time it was! Came out for a bachelor trip and it didn’t disappoint! The weather was warm but there were a couple nights we got snow and really brought some fresh pow onto the mountain Didn’t get to ride all the mountains but highly recommend! Will be back!
Dominick S — Google review
I love this ski mountain. It has a variety of runs. Amazing variety. They have all kinds of national or like world wide competitions from time to time. Mountain is huge with so many different lifts. It’d take like 30 mins to traverse from one side to the other. The blue/black runs are on the easy side. But double blacks are standard double black difficulties. Mountain is not crowded at all. There are many many food options. Even a decent proper restaurant on the top of the black run area on the bottom left. Pretty decent views. Parking lot could be hard to find unless paid parking. Then there’s public transport which people take but it’s super slow compared to driving yourself. I also love the Aspen logo cap. I bought 3 in different colors 💀 after I left. The downtown is nice too. Many boutique stores like almost anything you can think ofz Only few months to go till the next season🙂‍↕️what can I say I love this place.
I — Google review
Beautiful place to go with your family! It has many things to do including rental of ski and snowboard, they also offer classes until 3:30PM to teach you how to ski or snowboard, it has many restaurants to eat with your family or friends and many stores to look around for something interesting, it also has attractions for the little ones. Tamarack, it's an amazing place to stay, super clean and comfy, I recommend. Overall and amazing experience with astonishing views and a lot of fun the only bad side is that everything is overpriced so if you want to have a great experience save some money and pray to not spend more than 2000$ a day with restaurants and ski rentals.
Kauã Z — Google review
Aspen Snowmass is hands down one of the best ski destinations our family has skied! From the breathtaking scenery to the perfectly groomed runs, every aspect of this resort exceeded our expectations. The variety of terrain makes it ideal for our families varied skill levels. The lift system is efficient, minimizing wait times even on busy days, and the staff is friendly and helpful at every turn. On-mountain dining options are fantastic, with plenty of cozy spots to warm up and enjoy a great meal. Après-ski in the village is just as magical, offering a perfect mix of lively bars, upscale restaurants, and boutique shopping. Aspen Snowmass truly has it all—world-class skiing, stunning views, and a vibrant atmosphere. We can’t wait to return for another unforgettable trip!

Loved my second visit! Great trails with bars along the way, awesome music from the DJ, beautiful snow, and so much fun snowboarding. 😊
Matt P — Google review
Aspen Snowmass is truly one of the best ski resorts out there! While the prices can be on the higher side, the amazing experience you get makes it all worth it. The resort takes great care of its groomed pistes, with most slopes being maintained daily to ensure you have fantastic skiing conditions. At Snowmass, you’ll find a fantastic variety of trails to suit all skill levels—whether you’re just starting or looking for a thrilling adventure on double diamond runs. One of the best things about Snowmass is the super short lift lines! This means you can spend more time enjoying the slopes and less time waiting. The spacious pistes allow for plenty of room to ski at your own pace, and the trees around help with visibility too. Plus, the staff are incredibly friendly and always ready to help, which makes for a warm and inviting atmosphere. Overall, Snowmass Mountain offers a ton of activities and experiences. In my opinion, it really outshines Aspen Mountain, giving skiers a more well-rounded and enjoyable skiing adventure!

Sunlight Mountain Resort offers a variety of winter activities including snowmobile tours, cross-country skiing and access to 67 trails. During the summer months, visitors can enjoy hiking and biking. The staff at the resort are known for being very friendly and helpful, particularly those working in the rental area. Children's ski school is also available with instructors who take pride in teaching young ones how to ski. Visitors with little experience are able to learn more about skiing and enjoy it over multiple days.
This ski resort is a Hidden Gem. Not only does it have second steepest Peak in Colorado: THE HEATHEN, it also has a wide variety of intermediate and beginner level runs. The staff is super friendly and they have a lot of trainers for ski school. This is excellent for families with kids because the trainers take groups of three and four kids up the mountain and have them up and skiing in one day. It is amazing to see kids who have never seen before within an hour are heading down the slopes with the instructors. I highly recommend this Ski Resort it is a double A+ those who love to ski and have a variety of courses available to them. This location is great for groups who are at all different levels of skiing skills. They have everything from double black diamonds down to beginner green and blue intermediate runs.

She was able to meet all of the needs of our group including switching ski days for some of us who became sick, sign some of us up last minute for ski schools, and refund lift tickets and rentals for some of us that got injured. Ski conditions were awesome! No lines for the lifts, rentals were very nice, trails had fluffy fresh powder. This place is a real hidden gem!

I love this place. We come back almost every year. It’s far enough away from the really big resorts that it feels like you get. Local vibe, and usually the mountain is not too crowded. Great spot for beginners or advanced, as the lifts are super easy and the mountain has lots of great trails. Absolutely recommend taking a day or two here!

Great place to ski with a family. Very affordable and close to Glenwood. We had a group of 6 kids and 4 adults and everyone enjoyed the snow. Snack bar had very good food and was cheap!!! I highly recommend the Chicago hot dog. Delicious. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating.

Locals ski mountain with ample tree terrain for those who want to adventure. Great for families. Lodge has food and beverage, feels a bit nostalgic in ways.

Best run of the season for us, myself with beginner 5 and 13 year old. This place was perfect. Long nice slopes. There weren't many people in the slopes. Beautiful views.
Kristofer D — Google review
Sunlight is a beautiful gem! Has all the views and great CO snow but isn't crowded. The lifts are definitely a little ancient but our family had a blast at this resort. Everyone is so nice! Has runs for everyone! We stayed at the Gnarly Inn at the bottom which is an experience in itself. About 20 min from Glenwood Springs.
Keri W — Google review
I give this resort 4.5 stars! It would receive 5 stars if the kids in the rental shop were a little better trained. This resort shined in other areas though! First, it's very uncrowded and has some great long runs. The lifts were not the greatest but so many times I would look ahead and behind me on a run and...I was the only one there. The staff was super friendly, from the lift attendants to the lodge cafe workers to Bill in the locker office. The food was great and reasonably priced compared to other resorts. We did not have great snow unfortunately and there were some icy patches but did I mention that I had the mountain to myself many times? I improved so much. We put a 13 year old in ski lessons the first morning and not only were they super reasonable, she graduated to blues by the second day. We visited NYE weekend. The first day we arrived at 8.30 and parked right in front of the entrance. Second day we arrived at almost 10 and had a 1 or 2 minute walk. We used our Indy passes and it was super easy. Just show them at the lift ticket window in exchange for lift tickets. Only once was the beginner lift busy. Again, the lifts could themselves could be better (my boots and skis felt like 500 pound weights without foot rests) but if you want wide open spaces to ski, this is the place!

Maroon Bells is a must-see destination with iconic mountain peaks towering over 14,000 feet. Accessible via a shuttle bus, the scenic viewing area offers breathtaking views of rugged mountains, babbling streams, and fields of wildflowers surrounding turquoise blue lakes. Even a leisurely stroll around Maroon Lake, just 5 minutes from the parking lot, provides stunning vistas and opportunities to spot wildlife. For those seeking a short but rewarding hike, the approximately 3.
It is soooo worth the hike to Crater Lake! The trail is super rocky, good hiking shoes are a MUST but you will NOT regret the reward at the end. Reservations for the shuttle are easily made online and I highly recommend the shuttle.
Michelle H — Google review
Majestic and Family-Friendly Spot! Maroon Bells is a truly majestic place with breathtaking views, scenic walking trails, clean restrooms, and picnic tables. It’s family and pet friendly; accessible for everyone. The main trail is suitable for walkers, wheelchairs, and strollers. If you have a handicap tag or plate, you’re allowed to drive up to the entrance and purchase a vehicle pass without needing a reservation. You can go up at any time of the day — no advance booking is required for vehicles with handicap tags or plates. For all other visitors, you must make a reservation in advance with a specific time slot. If you buy a shuttle ticket for a certain time and arrive late, you’ll need to wait in line and board a later bus only if there’s space available. Parking is paid and collected upon arrival. If you wish to drive your own car, make sure to arrive before 8:00 AM — after that, access to the mountain is only allowed via the shuttle bus. Hope this helps anyone planning to visit!

We very much enjoyed the Maroon Bells - stunning views, the shuttles were great to get us there and back. Would definitely return again.
Angela D — Google review
Great hike to Crater Lake. Try to get there early with the shuttle. It a moderate hike with some elevation a lot of boulders and rocks but it's worth while. It's like walking on the moon
Iris M — Google review
A very beautiful place — definitely a must-visit! I recommend buying a parking ticket on the website in advance, as same-day tickets might be sold out. Also, photos and videos are allowed after 5 PM. If you want the sunlight on the mountain (not behind it), come in the first half of the day.
Olha K — Google review
Maroon Bells is widely celebrated for its breathtaking scenery, tranquil atmosphere, and the variety of accessible hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. Visitors regularly describe it as “absolutely stunning,” “awe-inspiring,” and “one of the loveliest places on earth” due to the uninterrupted views of towering snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear Maroon Lake, lush aspen forests, and vibrant wildflowers throughout different seasons. Reviews emphasize the well-marked and maintained trails, including the easy scenic loop for families and those with mobility issues, with more challenging routes leading to Crater Lake for adventurous hikers. Wildlife spotting—including mule deer, moose, foxes, and beavers—is common beside serene lakes and meadows, enhancing the experience even further. While the area itself receives five-star ratings for natural beauty, visitors express concerns over increasing shuttle and parking costs, and the need to plan ahead for entry passes, bus rides, and arrival times due to recent crowd management measures. Despite the logistical hurdles, most reviewers agree the unique landscape, dramatic views, and peaceful ambiance make Maroon Bells a must-see destination in Colorado, especially during summer and fall We were able to visit in mid October and took the help of the shuttle bus and it was a blessing in disguise. Crowd was less and was more enjoyable.
Sayan S — Google review
We arrived at Aspen Highlands where we parked the car and took a bus ride that took about 20 minutes to the site. There are several easy trails around the lake and also the option of more difficult treks. We traveled in June and the conditions were pleasant, a light jacket was enough. It is worth reserving a place in advance for parking or transportation.
Yossi G — Google review
I love it! It's an easy round trail. If you would like a more challenging hike, you could take the trail to Crater Lake. Before going, people should buy round-trip shuttle tickets online. Remember the last bus of the day.

Crystal Mill

Mentioned on
1 list
Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Crystal Mill is a wooden structure that dates back to 1892, located near a river with picturesque mountain views. It can be accessed by following a hiking trail, but the road leading up to it is only approximately 4.5 miles long and can take an hour and a half to two hours to navigate due to its poor condition. Despite the bumpy ride, the scenery along the way is stunning, especially during fall when the vibrant colors accentuate everything.
What an incredible hike up to a beautiful area! Definitely don’t recommend driving anything but an off-road Jeep up the trails. We considered taking our pickup but went against it after we saw how steep the start of the trail was! Bring LOTS of water and wear comfy shoes. The end result is worth the struggle of the uphill climb!
Kay — Google review
The road to the mill is beautiful but a bit scary at times, definetly worth it though, be sure to check out the town of Crystal too ❤️
Jenn C — Google review
This is an epic adventure with a beautiful destination. 4x4 high clearance vehicles required. If you are going to do the entire loop do it clockwise, counter is more difficult. Lots of shelf road and very bumpy and rocky road.
Craig M — Google review
This place is absolutely beautiful! We did the Jeep Tour up here and glad we did. Our Rav4 wasn't going to get up there lol. The small jeep compass that was behind us on the way back down, rode high and center, scraping the front end and undercarriage to pieces and popped a tire. Good luck getting a tow truck to come get you and not pay under 1k for it. Be smarter when attempting the drive. Getting there is one thing, coming back down is another.
Lindsey A — Google review
Love the views nice hike amazing river . Get ready to walk 5 miles up and 5 miles down. But it’s worth it.

Easy, but long hike. Gorgeous all the way though, so definitely worth it. Driving is possible, but high clearance 4x4 is the only way

The rain poured for most of our four-mile trek to the Mill. Fortunately, it eased up for a quarter of an hour, and I used every second of that fifteen-minute reprieve to snap some quick photos.

Third time here and still having a blast! There's something for everyone here at this mountain and the signage between the different parts is pretty good. A couple areas could do with faster chairs, but you won't notice it on the less busy days. The paradise bowl area and international are some of the best runs!

I had an incredible experience at this mountain resort! The snowboarding conditions were perfect, with well-maintained slopes and plenty of variety for all skill levels. The staff was friendly and helpful, making the overall experience even better. The resort’s facilities, including equipment rentals and après-ski options, were top-notch. Definitely a must-visit spot for any snowboarding enthusiast. I’ll be coming back for sure!

They only rent out the 4th floor & there is NO elevator! Plus, it's 2 flights of stairs to the bedrooms upstairs! I counted 88 stairs from my bedroom to the parking lot! I had a total knee replacement a few months ago & was barely able to survive 3 days here. My aunt who is a senior also had a difficult time. I would NOT recommend this place unless you are fit. Also noted is the fire station has put a ban on the livingroom fireplace & our TV upstairs wouldn't even turn on.
Sherry W — Google review
Crested Butte is absolutely beautiful one of the most stunning ski towns in Colorado. The mountain itself is known for being steep, deep, and challenging, which makes it an amazing destination for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. It’s definitely not the most beginner-friendly resort, but if you’re comfortable on the slopes or looking to push yourself a bit, Crested Butte is 100% worth the trip. The terrain is legendary, the views are unreal, and the whole vibe of the town is welcoming and laid back. A must-visit if you love real mountain skiing and want something a little more rugged and thrilling than the typical resort experience.
Rachel F — Google review
Tougher location to get to if flying into Denver. We drove through pretty nasty snow storm. Can’t say anything about the rooms or service as we stayed at a Vrbo but the mountain definitely has some tough terrain. The double blacks kicked our asses! Great ski spot. Just be cautious of the rocks. We got to see some paragliders take off which was pretty cool!
Kyle — Google review
This is the 2nd year in a row we have been skiing here and we absolutely love it. The snow and slopes are very good. There is a big variety of green, blue and black level terrain. We love staying at a hotel right at the base so we can walk to everything. There is a decent amount of restaurants and bars in the area. The mountains are beautiful!
Will G — Google review
I bought an Epic pass with the intent of going all over the place and I only went here. I'm not mad about it! Crested Butte is the best and will always be the best! The fact they are now owned by Vail resorts is the only downside (screw you Vail! Treat your employees with some respect!). Despite that, they are still the best place in Colorado for resort skiing, but don't tell anyone!
James R — Google review
The mountain and facilities are great from the start of the day. Everything took a turn for the worst at the end of the day upon arrival to the car. We parked at the main lot, and since it was our first time to CB we asked for information upon arrival to the lot. We were instructed to pay upon exit at the manned guard shack. Apparently the staff is not trained on the policy and procedures. We arrived to a $75.00 parking ticket. Upon arrival to our car, with a parking ticked, there was no staff to be found. Captive audience with no one to appeal to. Thanks a lot CB for the lack of assistance and a simple "pay me more money." I will remember this experience as I frequent many mountains and interact with many patrons. I hope you remedy this situation with your staff as too improve your guest experience moving forward.

Kebler Pass is a scenic gravel road that stands at an altitude of over 10,000 feet and provides breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains. The area is serene and tranquil, especially during the night when it gets dark. It's a popular camping spot although it may be challenging to find available spaces during peak summer weekends. Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the exceptional hiking trails available around Kebler Pass while cyclists can navigate through the gravel road on road bikes.
I drove through Kebler Pass west to east 10/04/20204 to see foliage. It was not as beautiful as I hoped for until I arrived at Cliff Creek trail head. The view from there is unbelievable. You should come and see it with you own eyes. Hurry up, foliage peak will be over soon

Nice drive Nice views .. beautiful scenery if your trying to save time getting to Crested Butte it's fairly shorter then going through Gunnison .
Poli A — Google review
We decided we wanted to take Keblar Pass on our way back home, as we came to see the aspens peak season! We were so happy we did, this was actually some of the prettiest scenery we had seen our entire Colorado trip , we came Late September & the views were endless, lookout spots. The road turns into gravel but signage was super helpful and it did not feel unsafe! If you are considering if it’s worth it , this time of year I can vouch it is definitely worth it!
Adlyn T — Google review
Kebler Pass is one of Colorado’s most stunning fall drives! The golden aspens stretch for miles, creating a glowing canopy of color. The road winds through breathtaking mountain views and peaceful meadows. Absolutely worth the trip for anyone chasing peak fall foliage!
Joshua L — Google review
Drove the road east to west on July 7, 2024 as bypass for the closed middle bridge over Blue Mesa Reservoir on US50. With the closure I expected high traffic, especially at the end of a holiday weekend but it was light. Expect about 20 miles of gravel road, but in good condition with only a little washboard and a few pot holes. Speeds of 25-30mph were quite comfortable. I see no reason why ordinary passenger cars would find difficulty, but don’t be in a hurry. Take some of the time you saved by not detouring to I70 to slow down and enjoy the wild flowers and amazing scenery. But please stay in your lane when rounding bends, more than once we met an oncoming car taking the middle of the road. We had a delightful drive.

When I feel like there is nothing else I can see to make me fall deeper in love with Colorado… here comes Azura. Y’all I don’t know why it took me so long to find this piece of heaven. It’s like you travel to Europe, but I take it back Azure can definitely compete with any European winery. The views is absolutely amazing 😻 the tastings are a great deal where you try 4 for $5. Coco is the official mascot and he makes sure to show you around the grounds. Cachi also enjoyed the location. Make sure to add this location to your bucket list. We want to try the other wineries but I am not sure they can beat the view. Also the service is friendly and very helpful.
Dayana G — Google review
I absolutely love this place. Views are unworldly, food was top notch, and wine was extremely tasteful. This place really is a slice of Italy in CO. Everyone there is so nice and can tell that it's very family oriented by the way it's run. They have a true passion in the things they do and it shows. I will be back without question.
Drew T — Google review
Absolutely 10/10 experience. The winery is set in the most beautiful location with a spectacular view. There is ample seating, from patio couches, tables overlooking the edge, and waterfront chairs, all of it excellent. We were immediately greeted and the service was superb. The wine was very good and we both found something we liked easily. My only regret is not buying more bottles to take home!
Brianna S — Google review
One of the nicest little wineries that I've been to as far as atmosphere goes. The outdoor seating and overlook of the valley and mountains is really unbeatable. The wine was very nice, but not as nice as the venue and views. :)
Josh — Google review
First off the staff is very friendly and proud of their establishment. (as they should be) we LOVED the atmosphere and view. This place is classy and well thoughtout. My reason for giving only 4 stars is the lack of snacks. We shared 3 bottles of wine during the several hours there and hoped for a few more food options. This place is still a must... Make the time and come here... Bring snacks and sit back to enjoy the breathtaking sights
Scott L — Google review
Great place. They offer free tasting and I our case we bought two glasses to enjoy their setting. The place is nice and a good stop if someone is in the area. We talked to the owner-sailor a bit. I am sure he has way more stories to tell. There is also some art for sale
Jose L — Google review
First of all, approaching the winery was like rolling up to an Italian villa, with beautiful grounds and lush landscaping. The wine tasting was very reasonably priced, with the ability to sample 4 different wines for $10, and even included the glass. They were all very well done, and I honestly liked everything I tried. I settled for the yacht club red for my full glass, and settled down under their pergola patio, which sported incredible views and offered shade as well. We were really impressed with everything, and while we didn’t get food, we came back with 2 bottles of the Yacht Club Red, as it’s only available at the vineyard and not distributed locally. Guess just a good reason to come back! Azura was by far the best vineyard of all the ones we tried in the area and we’d absolutely come back!
Robert F — Google review
Wow! It shows that an artist designed and built this place. Sitting here you are in a Colorado version of a Tuscan Villa. The people are wonderful and the wine is good. Look for the sign pointing up the hill from the main road, stop in and get a bottle to drink on the patio.

Grand Mesa is a breathtakingly beautiful mountain with a flat top that offers scenic views of lakes and forests. It is an ideal location for camping, fishing, and hiking activities. This natural feature provides stunning views of the valley with multiple stop areas to capture its beauty in photographs. The fall season brings about a change in colors of the aspen leaves, which enhances Grand Mesa's beauty even further. Visitors are sure to be awed by this spectacular mountain range that Hank loves so much!
Great place to enjoy the heart of the Western Slope. Many small lakes are on top of the mesa, with creeks running all over the place. There's large aspen groves to explore, and much of the hiking here is easy. It is a mesa, after all, not a mountaintop.
Steve S — Google review
I love this Mesa. There is so much fun to find up there. There a hundreds of lake's and streams. It is cool. There are fish everywhere. The bad is the bugs get horrible. Something none at all, other times you need a shotgun for repellent because they are persistent. Either way you have to get out there and enjoy it.
Carri B — Google review
Most beautiful flattop mountain iv ever seen. Well worth a 10 hour drive to camp for a few nights. Plenty of trails and campgrounds, but be aware of cooking meat that isn't covered and storing it as its bear territory here
Kara K — Google review
Grand Mesa is very beautiful. I can't wait to go again next year. The colors are just so beautiful. I lived in California for 48 years so to see a real fall finally is just wonderful.

You could spend weeks here and not see it all! Gorgeous views of Grand Junction, Delta, and La Sal Mountains! Roads were in nice shape, there’s a million different lakes and the fall colors were really popping off when we were up there. There’s so much to do here, it can be overwhelming but definitely worth checking out

🔊🔊🔊 Hello Review Readers 🔊🔊🔊 Hello Y'all ..if you're looking for a fun summer drive then load up your vehicle & picnic lunches and drive the Grand Mesa loop. You can do it from either direction in a circle from Grand Junction. Going the ski area way or the Delta way is equally beautiful! Depending on how many times you stop to take pictures it's probably about a 2 1/2 -3 hour loop. At the top of the Grand Mesa there is a visitor center and many amazing lakes and breathtaking scenery. If you live anywhere in the area or just passing through on vacation do yourself a favor and drive the Grand Mesa loop. It's a very relaxing and peaceful drive. It's definitely a bucket list drive because the scenery from the top is next level. Have fun Y'all!

I thought you could rent equipment here for kayaking but it doesn’t work that way. You have to bring whatever you want. I did some hiking but had a hard time following the signs and didn’t end up where I was trying to go. There is no cell service. I drove all the way through both ways. On my way back in the evening I saw a bear crossing the road! I definitely recommend doing the drive and hiking if you like to hike but it’s difficult to understand the services and there’s no one to help as the visitors center is no longer staffed.
Steph W — Google review
We visited Grand Mesa in August of 2023 and I am so glad we did! The weather was perfect. We stoped and walked along many of the larger lakes (there are over 300 lakes) . We entered from the South 50 to 65 . Visitor center is far in, nearly at top of Mesa first 6 of 12 mile drive was gravel rough road and the drive itself is pretty shaky. The visitor center was nice, the lakes around the visitor center were pretty. Overall nice experience but be prepared for mosquitos in the summer bring a repellent for the mosquitoes.

Powderhorn Mountain Resort

Ski resort
Nature & Parks
Plain quarters in a relaxed ski resort offering a restaurant & a bar, plus ski storage & rentals.
Local to Grand Junction and the Western slope of Colorado, this is a small but well managed ski area that avoids big crowds, especially on weekdays. Powderhorn has varied terrain, good maintenance of their groomed runs, two lifts to get you to the top, and about 1600 feet of vertical. I'll even give their app a plug - it gives a quick look at daily conditions when you're down in the valley wondering if you should go up for the day, and the tracking function let's you know what you did for the day (when you remember to fire it up😆). It's a great skiing experience at a totally reasonable price.

Just spent the 4th of July mountain biking this absolute gem! I came in from Salt Lake having ridden every resort there and I can tell you, this place is special. On top of being a blast the staff across the board from the lifties to the bike shop people were there to make sure I had a good time. I did blow my rear tire while there and Tyler in the shop was awesome, he plugged the tire and got me back on the trail safely. I do believe I will make this a regular destination. Thanks!
Jake L — Google review
Stayed at the Goldenwood in the off season, the rooms are spacious and cozy and have full kitchen, some community charcoal grills, even laundry if staying a bit longer. Expect more mountain cabin amenities, there are TVs and Internet, but don't compare it to a city hotel, you might be able to stream your shows, but it's remote, just unplug and relax and enjoy the breeze through the Aspens. The little town of Mesa is near for food, groceries, and libations. There are some mountain lodges not far up the pass too. Quite in the week with spectacular views of the Book Cliff's and valley below. Weekends still get a decent mountain biking community for enthusiasts and spectators with events held.

One night summer camp stop. We stopped here on our way to Grand Mesa on Labor Day weekend. We stayed here for a night and had a great spot with a great view. We never saw anyone or got any instructions. The online system made it seem like it would be more particular. Everything was easy. Thank you!

Fun Mountain! Great local feel. A little bit for everyone. Cruisers, trees, double black diamonds, nice lodge, friendly people. Have a great day at Powderhorn!
Austin H — Google review
A great place to ski in Colorado. Powderhorn has a perfect amount of trails for people who only have limited days to visit compared to other giant ski resorts. However, most black trails aren’t groomed, which limit the options for intermediate-advanced skiers. There are little to no lines and wait times are short. A lot of snowfall in the mountains reduces the need to make artificial snow. The lodge has a microwave. Staff is friendly and welcoming.

Ben was amazing! Great experience, he was organized, confident, and energetic. He walked us through all the details and helped my wife and I have a fantastic jump! Still on a high after the jump. :) One thing we didn’t know was that you go one at a time (at least when we went), you don’t jump in the same flight. But that allowed us to watch each other! Very cool! Thanks Ben!

I wish I had better words to describe it other than amazing, life changing, and just WOW! Because it was all of that and more. I was honored to get to celebrate Ben’s 13,000 jump and my 40th year of sobriety. Thank you Ben from the bottom of my heart! AMAZING and so much more!!

This was my first jump and it was amazing! I was nervous so having Ben explain everything and be confident and calm really helped me do something I’ve always wanted to do. As soon as I got down I wanted to do it again. I highly recommend getting the video and pictures. It all goes so fast it is nice to be able to re live it. The plane was small, but the flight was smooth. Thank you Ben and company. That was fantastic!!

Had the most amazing experience. I jumped with Shawn and he was the best. Made sure I felt comfortable and remembered everything I was supposed to do while jumping. If you’re on the fence about making the jump, just do it! You won’t regret and you might even end up like me ready to take the next jump again as soon as possible!

Ben is so experienced he makes it look easy. Communication was great and we couldn’t be happier with the video/pics we bought along with the experience. Our son had an unforgettable jump. We will definitely be back.

The South Rim Visitor Center is a lodge-like facility that provides maps, a park video, and stunning panoramas of the Black Canyon. It is one of the three sections of the Black Canyon National Park and can be easily accessed via Highway 347 near Montrose. Travelers often choose to visit the South Rim due to its accessibility from Gunnison, especially for those with larger vehicles as the road to the North Rim is narrow.
Based in a log building on the edge of the canyon the South Rim Visitor Center is a great place to stop before venturing further into the park. The rangers were friendly and informative and offer information and maps to help get your bearings and plan your visit. They have some nice displays and a gift shop as well.

Great visitor center! Awesome exhibits of the canyon and wildlife in the area as well as cool comparisons of this canyon to the other canyons in North America. Small (crowded) gift shop and really helpful staff at the information desk. parking fills up, but there's some on each side of the visitor center. Bathrooms in the parking lot also with a water bottle fill station. Great overlook off the back deck woth a short easy walk down to the viewpoint.

The South Rim Visitor Center is conveniently located near the park entrance, making it the primary starting point for most visitors to the park. It offers ample parking, clean restrooms, and easy access to the South Rim Road, which leads to several scenic overlooks and hiking trails. It’s well-equipped to provide an introduction to the park’s unique geology and wildlife, and it offers great resources for planning your adventure. The nearby overlooks provide some of the most spectacular canyon views in the park, making it an essential part of any visit.

Great place for information & education in the black canyon. There are some hands on activities. You can purchase t-shirts, stickers and more. Note that Colorado is a bag-free state so you’ll need to carry your items out. Highly recommend!
Kelly M — Google review
Nice visitor center with friendly staff and reasonably priced souvenirs. The views of the canyon are great from the visitor center but I would recommend going through the trail at the back to an overlook for much better views. Due to the July heat, we did not stay for too long but the visit was worthwhile.
SARTHAK P — Google review
Beautiful and unique sight to behold, it’s hard to see the magnificent and breathtaking depth that these canyons are, it was an easy walk from the visitor center to a great overlook. There is some informational content in the visitor center. There is no water up here. Outhouse was clean and heated
Lauren ( — Google review
The main attraction is the views of the canyon from the trails just outside the visitors center. The parking lot tends to fill up, so we parked at a pull out that was about a half mile from the visitors center and walked along the rim trail to the center. You get many different glances at the gorge, and it is not as crowded as the area right around the visitors center.

Excellent location for this visitor's center! Inside there's the typical ranger's desk complete with maps and all the information you could need; a store; and some fascinating information regarding the geology and history of the park. Just outside there's a picnic table (having it labeled as a picnic area on the park maps is a little misleading) and some benches, and a boardwalk a short distance down to an amazing overlook. There's also 2 separate restroom buildings, so potty opportunities abound here! For what it's worth, we did just about everything the south rim has to offer (short of going into the canyon) in under 8 hours or so. Kids did the junior ranger program, we hit all the overlooks and did the Warner Point Trail, as well. Did the Rim Rock Trail from here to a little ways past Tomichi Point, but turned around as it was getting dark. Also drove down the East Portal Road and got as close to Crystal Dam as we could. Skipped the Uplands and Oak Flat Trails, but did stick around after dark for a pretty cool astronomy program near the campground.

Historical place museum
Museums
The Museum of the Mountain West is a fascinating collection of historical artifacts from the western United States, curated by Richard E. Fike. The museum features authentic reconstructions of shops and buildings from an 1800s town, showcasing various aspects of daily life including medical practices, saloons, hotels, schools, residences, and a railroad depot. Visitors can explore a wide array of vintage items such as medical tools, musical instruments, antique furniture and more.
An amazing place - buildings and everyday life items 200-100 years old, gathered for many years with love by a passionate man. The director was so kind to show us through the inside collection, where every little thing had a story to be told. At the end we also got a great restaurant recommendation from a lovely lady runing the place. We spent two hours there, and the time passed super fast. I highly recommend visiting this museum.

We happened to see the historic buildings on our way to black canyon and decided to take a look. We're so glad we stopped by! AMAZING collection. Also dog friendly, leashed. Option to do guided tour or self guided. Guided tour is about 1.5hr, highly recommend! There are artifacts of all kinds guns, apparel, saloons, medical/dentistry, tools, foods, music literally everything. The owner, Mr.Fike, was also there! You will love it
Joanna C — Google review
Passed this on our way down to telluride. Had to stop when we made the trip back toward Denver. Absolutely loved everything! Highly recommend a guided tour, you'll learn a lot and get closer to the buildings/rooms to look around and ask questions. All staff is super friendly, the whole place is also dog friendly so you don't have to leave your pup in the car. Will definitely be back if we make our way through Montrose in the future!

Awesome museum that has several different buildings and artifacts. The owner started collecting artifacts at age 4 and has continued throughout his lifetime. There's so much to see and learn. There are informative signs all over the place to help you understand what you are seeing, and it's packed full of great historical pieces. This is a great treat for locals and tourists alike. June was super helpful, and there were so many great souvenirs at the giftshop. We thought it was cool that Mr. Fike (founder/owner) is there on site and happy to answer any questions you may have. Everyone was so friendly here, and the self guided tour was nice, we would love to come back and do a guided tour. They also do ghost tours and special events like weddings here! We got some really cool solar t-shirts that change color in the sun while we were here too. I highly recommend visiting when you're in the area!

What a hidden, historical gem this museum is! The gentleman who started up this museum has been collecting items starting at the tender age of 4 years old-there's 80 year's worth of collecting to enjoy. We did the self guided tour but will definitely go back for the guided tour. A highly recommended stop off the beaten path!

Fantastic tour by local guide . Huge collection of artifacts, learned a lot of history of turn of the century West, and indeed history of American culture.

The Ute Indian Museum in Montrose is a must-visit for those interested in the history and culture of the Ute Indians. The museum, which was expanded and rebuilt in 2017 with input from the three Ute tribes, offers a journey through centuries of Ute culture. Visitors can explore traditional tools, clothing, and artifacts while learning about how European migration impacted their tribal lands.
Amazing museum with a great gift shop. There's several interactive displays and so much to see. There's a great kid area now and a lot of plants to see along their garden path across the street. There's something here for everyone, and admission is absolutely reasonable.

Truly awesome museum with wonderful videos and displays. The staff was great and you can tell how much pride the tribe has in their museum. We were honored to be able to enjoy it.

It's a wonderful museum, so much to see. There are tv"s where you interact with and are able to watch many different things about the Ute tribe of the history and many of things. Many benches to set and take in the views. Outside was also very interesting and informative. A great museum.

I walk with the dog here in the mornings. Its quiet and peaceful. There is a wooden walkway that leads to the Uncompahgre River. I've spotted cranes, geese and ducks on the river. Lots of people like to start river trips from this spot. On the other side of the road is the museum. The architecture is interesting and the museum has informative displays. Children enjoy exploring the many yurts built on the grounds. There is a trail beyond the grounds that lead to Riverbottom and Cerise Park.
Liisa M — Google review
Great smaller museum telling a history that has been ignored. Recommend a couple hours if you want to watch all videos and read the stories.

A gem of a museum. This museum was recommended by a local and it did not disappoint. Excellent text and a film described the history of the Ute. I particularly was interested to see an example of a resin coated basket. They have some beautiful clothing on display. There is also an excellent gift store

Ridgway State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Scenic wilderness area with a reservoir & swimming beach, plus yurt camping & year-round birding.
Ridgway State Park is a beautiful and peaceful place to spend the day! The $10 day use fee is well worth it for access to the stunning lake surrounded by mountain views. There's plenty of parking, and the park is very clean and well-maintained. We loved that you can swim, kayak, or paddleboard—either with your own gear or by renting directly at the lake. The water was clear and refreshing, and the overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy nature, spend time on the water, or just take in the views. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely come back again. A true Colorado gem! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely love this Park. We spent four nights there and loved the views, the wildlife and the peaceful vibe of the campground. The restrooms were clean and the showers had great water pressure. Plenty of shade trees and the RV sites are easy to access. Highly recommend.

Visited this park for a few hours early October. This is an amazing find we just happened across as we we're heading toward Montrose from Ouray. Excellent views with lake, mountains, rolling hills all in one shot. Stopped by the visitor's center. Staff there was top notch answering questions about the park, but also about various Colorado sites. While the park is not huge, it is an exemplary example of why Colorado does tourism right!

Camped two nights in our class b camper van with our two doggies and it was a beautiful campground. The campground has some nice short trails for walking the dogs. The views were amazing of the Reservoir. The sites were clean and so were the shower rooms. The campground is close to town. There were a lot of deer at this campground. I will definitely revisit this place.

We stayed at the Elk Ridge campground. Views from sites on the outer loop are amazing. Our site (123) came with a neat fire pit and grill. The campground was quiet. A steep trail leads down to the reservoir and more trails below. Cell service is excellent. Laundry is on site, with dryers running for one hour on $2. The town of Ridgway is just 5 miles away, and Ouray and Telluride are within beautiful drives.

We stayed in the yurt during the hot summer month of July. Great news! Air conditioner in the yurt! Our campground host brought over a hammock to use since hammocks are not allowed to be tied to ANY tree in ANY state park. Love the solution! Positioned well within the state near a national park (Gunnison) and loads of hiking trails. We drove into Ouray and up the million dollar highway to Silverton for the jaw dropping views and white knuckle ride. The kids had a lot of fun at the swim beach. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. We loved listening to the foxes at night. Thanks for a great time Ridgway! #COParksPassport

Beautiful facility hoped to windsurf the lake. Camp sites are not directly located on the lake. Boat ramp surrounded by high bluffs in a narrow bay making windsurfing challenging. Ranger recommended the access down the road where cars can drive upon the beach. Unfortunately fall low water limited use of that area.

Beautiful State Park! One of the best in CO. The Visitor's Center has more stuff in it than a Dollar Store :-) A big improvement would be to patch all the wide cracks in the roads - my poor RV was going to disintegrate after hitting all those. It would be an easy fix.

Box Cañon Falls Park

Box Cañon Falls Park is a rocky area with an 85-foot waterfall, offering trails, picnic spots, and a visitor center. The park features three main trails, including the Falls Trail that leads to the impressive waterfall in a narrow canyon surrounded by hundred-foot walls. For those seeking a longer hike, the High Bridge Trail provides stunning views of the falls from atop the canyon. Additionally, visitors can learn about the park's history through the lit Box Canon sign dating back to 1909.
Even though it's $7 a person to enter it was totally worth it. The structures they built for you to be able to get that close to the waterfall is more than worth it. The parking lot is smaller but we still were able to find parking. It was honestly SO cool to be able to walk this trail and see two different areas. I highly recommend this place.
Tara H — Google review
Amazing experience. The climb to the top of the falls was definitely very steep and rocky but great view! Definitely not super athletic and the first outdoor exercise we did in the altitude so it kicked our butt a bit on the way up. Down was not too bad, just navigating the rocks down. Lower view of the falls definitely allows you to experience the powerful falls more directly. Easy to navigate. A fair number of steps down to the very bottom but you can get a get experience opting out of that if you want.
Heather B — Google review
An absolute must-see in Ouray! Box Cañon Falls Park is one of those places that makes you stop and just soak it all in. The power of the waterfall echoing through the narrow canyon walls is breathtaking — you can feel the mist and hear the roar long before you see it! The rock formations are incredible, sculpted over time by rushing water, and the views from the bridges and walkways are absolutely mesmerizing. There’s a peaceful beauty in the contrast — raw power and serene natural design all in one place. We also loved learning about the rare Black Swifts that return here every summer to nest along the cliffs — such a special touch that makes the park even more unique. It’s an easy walk, family-friendly, and the sound of the falls inside the canyon is something you’ll never forget. Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or just exploring Ouray’s charm, this stop is a highlight of any Colorado trip!

Cool location we stumbled on by chance. But we are sure glad we did. We are on a motorcycle tour and we ride each day. And we look for cool “lunch” locations to have a picnic lunch. In our search we found Box Canon Falls. While it is not a picnic ground it is an Awsome natural water fall worth seeing. There is a charge to get in. About $7 per person. There are discounts for seniors and military members. There is an entrance with a gift shop and public bathrooms. And a water dispensing station. One picnic table near the entrance where we sat. But you could find locations along the way. But not as convenient! The falls are about a 5 minute walk from the entrance. There are two (2) walking loops. One goes over the top and is roughly a 1/2 mile walk with a 200’ climb up and down. The other is a much shorter walk to the lower level of the falls. Also has steps and a large catwalk that takes you to the mouth of the falls and the pools at the base. You can walk down steps to the base and feel the mist and touch the water It’s quite beautiful and you can feel the power of the falls. Well worth the money to see and you can certainly do both loops if you feel fit enough. If you want the less strenuous walk. Go to the base of the falls. 5 minutes to get to the falls. Maybe 10 minutes out of walking. As they say with steps. Going down is optional. Coming up is mandatory. Enjoy!
Mike R — Google review
A can't miss experience. If you are anywhere near this beautiful canyon and magnificent waterfall, you have to go. The enclosed nature of the water fall and sheer volume of water falling vibrates your whole body as you are able to observe very close to the waterfall. Definitely memorable.
Scott S — Google review
Great experience! The power of the waterfall is amazing. Make sure to go to the bottom as well as look down from the suspension bridge. It’s a short hike up to the bridge but well worth it! Rainbow was over Ouray, looked like we were seeing from underneath it. Amazing!
Courtney W — Google review
Wow wow wow. Started off with the high bridge trail. My four year old was able to manage the trek up with a little help and guidance. Breathtaking views from the top. This was followed by a march to the bottom of the falls. I was surprised by how uncrowded the bottom part of the park was. Easily able to walk right up to the water and feel the spray. Incredibly loud! Then we walked to the very bottom and got right up next to the water, which we stuck our hands in. It was freezing! Beautiful and well worth the trip.
Bayan R — Google review
Amazing place with a stunning waterfall! The waterfall is absolutely breathtaking — a must-see! You can also hike up the valley for an incredible view looking down at the charming town below. The scenery is surreal, and the whole experience feels like a postcard come to life. Highly recommend visiting! It has $7 per person entry fee.

Such a fun drive. Definitely need 4x4 and a lift. I took my 4runner but next time I’ll rent one of the off-roading vehicles. So beautiful. You just can’t soak in the views enough!

This is an amazing spot. The 4x4 high clearance trail is about a level 4 out of 10 to get to this location. You will need 33 inch or higher tires and lockers would help in some spots. But truly a must do trail. Fantastic views.

This was a very pretty trail! We attempted it in a 4 door Jeep last year, but had to turn around because it felt pretty sketchy. We returned this year with a 4 door razor and it was much easier! There was only one spot that we ended up on 3 wheels, but it was much easier to navigate in the smaller vehicle.

Unbelievable views! We drove over from Telluride for the day looking to get away from the city and closer to the mountains. It was the perfect choice. The higher you go the more challenging the drive. In the mountains, there is a resort that offers both summer and winter activities. It boasts a large area for skiing and snowboarding with quick lifts that minimize waiting times. The backside of the mountain is particularly fast with no long lines. There are many groomed areas to explore and multiple routes to take, making it an ideal destination for those who enjoy spending time on the slopes. Additionally, live bands perform at the base, adding to the overall experience.
We went right before the summer season started and it was wonderful. The shops were closed, but there were also less people which was refreshing. We met the GM Hana at the pool area and she made the experience more pleasant by helping us find some things and giving us ideas of things to do around the area.

Past experiences were better. This time around the condo we rented was not in good condition. The bathroom sinks barely had water pressure, the toilet wouldn’t flush, the shower doors were broken, it wasn’t as clean as it used to be and when we first walked in it smelled so strong like pinesol we had to open all the windows and doors to air it out. Called the front office to get things fixed and at first they said it will need to air over night, I explained the toilet had over flowed and we had to clean up the floors, what if it gets worse and over flows to the carpet? Then they sent someone to fix it, however the other bathroom started having issues. For the price we paid it wasn’t worth the hassle.
Natalie R — Google review
The place does offer cool views and some fun activities like the lift and alpine coaster. But, this was such a disappointment. We rented a two bedroom condo and as soon as we walked in, the place stunk. We immediately opened all windows and patio doors and started rubbing the fans. I found a can of sanitizing aerosol spray, but it didn’t mask the stink of the space. The carpet was disgusting, stains all throughout the floor from years of neglect. We were so excited initially, but the reality was gross. Our clothes stunk after we left. It’s also a hike from downtown Durango (we knew this), but there is an awesome Hot Springs facility nearby I’d highly recommend. As someone mentioned, many things at the resort are closed in the summer (naturally). For those reviewing before booking, I’d skip this place if I had high standards for where I stay. It needs some love (and renovation). Avoid the “I wish we’d have stayed somewhere else” feeling.

🚨FUTURE BRIDES BEWARE🚨 One of my friends had the MOST beautiful wedding at Dante’s at Purgatory Resort, a place where MANY are waitlisted to get married here. The venue, gorgeous, the ceremony outside gorgeous. Let’s talk about the reception and why Purgatory is getting 1 star from me. There is absolutely no reason that the kitchen should’ve been asked not once, but TWICE to please wait until the end of speeches to resume cleaning because THE ONLY thing you could hear after dinner during speeches WAS THE KITCHEN. There is no way being that close in proximity and the fact that they work there, that they definitely know how loud the kitchen can get. I asked for them to give us 20 minutes until we’re on the dance floor, another guest actually went and yelled at them 5 minutes later. I did not agree with this approach, yet the employees still did not stop banging plates and pans in the sink as well as the loud conversations. Employees were rude, did not stop interrupting and being loud. It was extremely disappointing as my friends GUEST, so you can only imagine how embarrassed she felt on HER day because of YOUR staff. Additionally, we double checked what our selections for the dinner, they served MULTIPLE people the wrong item. More than 5 of us have it documented that we ordered the steak, and they provided 4 of us with chicken. They wouldn’t bring out more steak, and argued with wedding guests about it as well. Highly unprofessional, I know how much my friends paid to have their wedding at Purgatory and the ONLY part that made it worth it was the view.
Lauren B — Google review
Went here for the summer activities. It was ok. Views were great, the mountain coaster was fun. Very fast! Wanted to do the alpine slide but they closed it because it was supposed to start sprinkling. Gem mining was ok. Given that we didn’t use the whole passes and the refund policy on the website is completely different than what is practiced, it was beyond disappointing as my son and I drove 4.5hrs to come up here. Don’t think I’ll be back for the summer activities, given they will close things at random and not uphold the refund policy stated online. Just enjoy the city of Durango and bypass this place in the summer.
Kim H — Google review
Website was very misleading when booking lessons. It does not show availability but makes it seem the reservation takes, only making it further difficult in attempting to request a refund. Would not have chosen here if I had known.
Clayton S — Google review
Came here for the summer fun activities. Naturally it starts raining. No big deal, not the parks fault. But you'd think while waiting you could go explore the shops And places to eat, ya know kill some time waiting on the weather. Except every place here is closed other than the pizza place. Which is crazy during summer season.
Jake W — Google review
We went for the day to enjoy the ski lift, alpine slide, and mountain coaster. Our boys, 10 and 13, had the time of their lives. There was some lightening nearby that shut down those activities for a bit but we hung around, played disc golf, sat and just enjoyed the scenery.

The quality of beef is outstanding! As a cattle rancher myself I am a little picky but this place is great. The burgers are very large in size and juicy. I normally can not do cheese but their ranch grown dairy was great! You can tell they don’t have any additives to their products. The restaurant has amazing views and atmosphere. It does get busy as soon as it opens so be prepared for that. It is a walk up to the counter and order type of place and then they bring you the food. The service was super helpful and made great accommodations to food allergies. The gluten free bun was super tasty and homemade. Inside the market store had great selection of food, wine and pre made meals. If you are heading up the mountain and need some groceries or meals this is a great place to stop. It’s not far north of Durango and very much worth the drive!

We absolutely love this place. We hosted our wedding Welcome Dinner here and it was a highlight for our guests. Knowing we were having our Welcome Dinner here, we came earlier to try the burgers and they were absolutely amazing (and so was the beet salad). They remained absolutely amazing for the burger bar at our Welcome Dinner as well. The staff was so friendly and helpful with organizing the event. The views are beautiful and it is also so fun to be able to watch the cows and go hang out with the goats. We could not have had a better experience and we plan to be back often.

This may have been the best burger we've had. Sustainably grown and grass fed with no antibiotics, great flavor and multiple options available. Big windows to enjoy the view from inside, or sit on the large patio outside. They have a market with a nice assortment of food and gift items.

Atmosphere & views are what you’re paying for. Staff was friendly & the market selection was vast. Burgers left a bit to be desired.

We come here everytime we're in Durago. Great spot with good food. Restaurt part of the building is beautiful and roomy with places to also sit outdoors. Store attached is cute and small but carries so many wonderful items including different fresh packed meats to take home and cook. They even have prepacked ready made food that you can heat up or throw in the oven like soups, empanadas, cinnamon rolls and pot pies (just to name a few). I liked that they also carried different spices and dairy products. Everything is so fresh. If your ever in Durango I recommend giving this place a try. We have been coming here since it started as a food truck. Not only will you enjoy the food, but the views are beautiful too.

Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum

This place is one of the best museums I have ever attended. Well worth a visit. Lots of things to do for children. Lots of exhibits to interact with. It really went through all the different time lines of the people. I loved the cabin, teepee, and classroom set up where you are immersed in the experience. I learned so much and information was so well presented my 5 year old understood. My son really loved the interactive stamps for the kids, and the different stations for them to get to try. From making weapons to beading. 10/10. Even the gift shop had a variety of books and jewlery and great variety.

Interesting exhibits that include textiles and weapons. Exhibit cards are informative without being too lengthy. Several areas are hands-on for kids such as the school room and model tee pee.

This place is amazing. Such a wonderful presentation of the UTE heritage. My husband & I took our young grandson with us and there were even some activities that a 3 year old could actively participate in. Although I would say an adult would better appreciate the Center’s presentation, the visit turned out to be a remarkable learning experience for both young & old!

Incredible, a must see to understand the truth about this country and how we treat the indigenous people. Shame on us! The displays were amazing and so educational. A must visit for those visiting the area.

Beautiful cultural center with outstanding displays, very informative and unbiased. It tells our history as a nation which is needed, the good with the bad. We cannot grow unless we understand our impact on others and this museum does a very good job of showing not only the history of the nation but the Ute people. Congratulations to the Staff, Sage for her stories and Susan Cimburek for a job well done. I had to include the eagle from the Justice Center next door.

This place is amazing open to the public 7 days a week and it's a free museum. Good for all ages. The center has more interactive displays then any museum I have been too. We were even given a going away gift of stickers, cards to mail of tribal art work and stamps. You must check this place out

Small, but very memorable place! The permanent exhibition was so well done, we were very impressed! Very interactive with bite size information on lots of different areas of Southern Ute life. Stop by if you’re in the area!!

A beautifully arranged cultural museum that really gives visitors a sense of the tribe's history, values, and language while emphasizing the importance of....and the challenges of..... self-preservation in the modern world. I came away with a deep respect for the Southern Ute and was really impressed with the museum. Admission is free, just make whatever donation you can. It's a great place for kids, too, and they have several children's activities. There is a small gift shop with lots of locally made beaded jewelry and smaller items, as well as a library, though we did not go in it.
