Wisconsin Point Lighthouse

Mentioned on
5 lists
Sights & Landmarks
Lighthouses
The Superior Entry Lighthouse, erected in 1913, is situated along a paved path that can be uneven at times. The lighthouse itself boasts of picturesque views but the absence of a walkway leading to it has made it difficult to approach closely due to rocky terrain. However, the ice melting off the shore and rocks makes for a beautiful sight. There is also an accumulation of driftwood adding to its natural charm.
Beautiful calm place with rocky paved path to the lighthouse, the rocks are firm but make sure you are wearing shoes. The kids could walk along, but as soon as we climbed the stairs to the lighthouse we noticed pointed glasses falling off from window’s and felt unsafe so we rushed down. The Graffiti was average and killed the lighthouse vibe. You could see ships and the beach from lighthouse. The weather was perfect on Juneteenth.
Hemalatha K — Google review
I was in Duluth, but saw that Superior had a lighthouse as well. The drive was not far and worth the drive there. Lots of scenic and beach points on the way to the lighthouse. I did not walk all the way to the lighthouse because of the serious rocks to walk over to get to it. If I had more confidence in balance walking over the crazy rocks, I would have. Still glad that I went and checked it out though. Some cool, views and a nice beach. There was also a beautiful Indian Burial ground. I did not take any pictures of the burial ground out of respect though.
TMK — Google review
A nice view from a distance. But the closer you get the more you can see a bunch of graffiti on it. (What kind of person are you to feel compelled to do that?…. And it’s not just a short drive to get there) The area is great. The drive is a one way in type of thing. Don’t be in a hurry to see it.
John K — Google review
Beautiful sandy beach. Fun to climb on the rocks going towards the lighthouse, and walk along the shoreline. Lots of families were swimming the day we went.
Heather K — Google review
Short walk out to the lighthouse. Not too difficult but it doesn't have a path. Lovely views of Minnesota and Lake Superior.
Audrey — Google review
It's in interesting lighthouses except for all the graffiti I also took pictures of the inside through an open window and no i did not crawl through it don't want to get in trouble after
Cody M — Google review
Can't get close up to it as there large rocks making it very difficult. Enjoyed the beach and view though.

Amazing place with lots of natural photo props. Also, just a peaceful area to have a walk or just enjoy the view of Lake Superior.

Amnicon Falls State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Nature park featuring waterfalls & rapids on the Amnicon River, trails & camping.
So many waterfalls to see during an interesting and varied hike. We parked in the first available parking lot off of County Road U and then hiked along the edge of the river on the nicely maintained path. The river churns and rolls along next to you as you walk, and the sound and interesting features of the water movement above and below the falls make the hike so enjoyable. After crossing the bridge, don't miss the chance to hike around the island and check out Snake Pit Falls on the far side. It was the most picturesque of them all! The hike around the island is a little more challenging than along the river. Watch your footing throughout the park as it is easy to trip over the rocks and roots on the paths.
Chanelle S — Google review
This is one of my favorite spots thus far. So much to see here. We hiked for 3.5 hours and could have truly stayed all day. There are so many waterfalls and picturesque stops. The trails have ones less traveled and still get you back to the trails easy enough to explore and not stress about being lost.
ASHLEY Q — Google review
Loved our stay! This campsite was perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. It had everything we needed—fire pit, picnic table, and just the right amount of space between sites to feel private without being isolated. The campground was clean, peaceful, and well-maintained. Pro tip: there are no fancy bathrooms, so be prepared to rough it a bit—but that’s part of the charm! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a simple, enjoyable escape outdoors.
Brennan R — Google review
If you love waterfalls, this wonderful park has several that you can get right in front of, on top of, below, and to the sides. As long as you're sure-footed, you can really get all over them here! You can even swim right up to them in a few spots, like the Lower Falls section. The trails here are nice, wide, and easy-going for the most part (there are some roots and rocks, but nothing terrible). There are picnic tables and grills scattered around, and a lot of places to sit on the ground for a more traditional picnic with incredible scenery. There are several parking locations throughout, and each has some incredibly picturesque views nearby. Not much in the way of playground equipment that I saw, just a swingset, but there may be more in the campground area (didn't go over to that part). I didn't notice any shelters, other than the historic covered bridge. Not a deterrent for me, but something to keep in mind if you visit on a rainy day. This is well worth visiting even from across the country (or from other countries). If you're visiting Wisconsin, this should definitely be on your list. If you live here, but have never been, this is one of the places in our state you should go out of your way to see at least once in your life. This place is absolutely gorgeous and so worth the drive! As a side note, not really of any importance to anyone other than me, this review finally puts me at level 10 on Maps. Almost a decade of adding pictures and places, making videos and reviews. I've always had an incredibly strong wanderlust and love of picture-taking. It brings me great joy showing people the weird and beautiful places to visit in our state (and country). My hope is that I have helped to inspire others to get out and explore, and maybe shown people things they didn't even know existed. I've been all over our country, and Wisconsin is an incredibly beautiful place that I don't think most people realize. Time spent outdoors here is time well spent!
Nathan F — Google review
This state park is open year-round and offers some beautiful sightings of nature. There are plenty of outdoor recreational activities available from camping, hiking, hunting and fishing to picnic areas and swimming. We enjoyed walking the trails and exploring all the geological views as well.
Grlenamored — Google review
Those Falls are just beautiful I've never seen waterfalls like that before they are just gorgeous and that I just felt so connected.
Ash — Google review
This is a great, underappreciated park. It’s small, but tends to be less crowded and you have great access to the waterfalls. It’s a much smaller, more intimate version of Copper Falls. The covered bridge is a really neat, unique feature of this park. We visited on a fall drive and returned a couple years later to camp. While you’re here it’s also a quick drive over to Pattison State Park to see the tallest waterfall in Wisconsin: Big Manitou Falls
Tom E — Google review
Not much too see. Falls are Low. We need rain. Tree look diseased with green lime Growth all over them and the rocks. A lot dead trees down. Bad side rail loose and falling apart. Camp ground very nice.

We stopped in to do sample infused mead and I was an awesome experience, we sat on the porch listening to some live music and sampling their delicious different meads they make. Highly recommend Black Harbor- and the Acer.
Jason S — Google review
Quaint little winery. Definitely a must stop. They have a 5 for $10 tasting that is definitely worth every dollar. We enjoyed everything we tasted and bought two bottles to take home. The lovely lady who was working was kind and very helpful with recommendations on what to see. Don’t miss this place!!
Sandy D — Google review
This is a smaller cider, mead brewery. They offer samples 5 for $10, or spirit samples 3 for $10. The meads are a sweet light crisp mead 9/10! Ciders are light and crisp as well most are semi dry 8/10. Really friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend stopping in! Worth the trip!!
Bethany S — Google review
Great selections of Mead and Cider. Great people there. I love their Mead-jito. If John, an owner, is in and you want a refreshing drink without alcohol, ask for John's drink!
Peung ( — Google review
Disclaimer: Have not been to the meadery. This is just a review of 2 of their meads. I bought a bottle of the dry mead and a bottle of the black mead. I have to say, I'm not a fan of either of them. Too similar to dry wine. When I drink mead, I wanna be able to tell I'm drinking mead. There's almost zero honey character in either, in my opinion.
J K — Google review
Wonderful Meadery, Cidery, Distillery on US2. Very educational and welcoming. We enjoyed the blueberry mead, many of the ciders and cherry kwench. A must stop!
Carrie N — Google review
It was so fun to find this on our way home from Ashland, Wi. It’s such a treat to taste local products! Please visit this neat cozy place! I didn’t get to snap much photos but they do have all kinds of Mead drinks & ciders. The couple John and Kim (Hamilton?) has been running and making these local drinks for the past 28 years! We support local 💯 and they deserve to be recognized more. They are lovely and kind people which makes it an impressive impression, surely! There are toys for kids to get busy with too! But the real deal is the challenge they give to kids with cup & ball, not sure about the name of the game but if you visit you’ll know! Cheers to more Wisconsin place to discover ☺️
Nissel B — Google review
Thr folks at White Winter are always amazing. Their meads and ciders are awesome. You need a gift for someone? Their products will make you everyone's favorite gift giver! They'll ship! If you get the chance, stop for one of their music gatherings also! We are...again!!

Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame

Temporarily Closed
Museum
Non-profit organization
Specialty Museums
Museum complex devoted to freshwater fishing, featuring antique motors, vintage rods & mounted fish.
We visited during the off season and we're the only ones there. It was very peaceful having the place to ourselves. It was pretty amazing to see so many different types of fish and how big some of the fish are! It was fun walking up the big muskie and getting some cool photos of the area. The summer gardens were already done blooming, but I imagine them being very beautiful in summer. I would definitely come back again with our kids to see.
Stephanie R — Google review
It's a unique attraction in Wisconsin. I've lived in Wisconsin for over 20 years and have known about The existence of the huge muskie building sculpture. So I was interested in seeing it even though I am not into freshwater fishing. If you are in the area or traveling through the area, it's worth the stop. It's fun to look out the mouth of the huge muskie structure and take pictures of the large fish sculptures, there is a lot to see in the museum.
Beverly K — Google review
Another World's Somethingest Something added to our list! The World's Largest Muskie is an incredible sight to behold! We finally got to go in after the fourth trip up here! I'm not sure why, but our first three attempts kept coming up unsuccessful, as it was closed each time. Once might have been covid, one time was construction, and I'm not sure what the reason was for the other (might have just been too late in the day, I don't remember for sure). The grounds here are absolutely gorgeous! They did a fantastic job on the sculptures and the landscaping. The interior has a LOT going on. There are so many boats, motors, lures, rods, pictures and mounts of record breaking fish. There's tons of history of freshwater fishing, and it does include quite a bit of saltwater fish, as well. There's a section filled to the brim with photographs people sent in over the decades of their catches. There's a decent amount of parking, a nice playground area for the kids, and so much to see (check out the 1950's era snowmobile). If you're a fishing enthusiast, or just in the area, this is well worth the price of admission. I was surprised to see there's not a seafood restaurant attached to this, though. It seems something like that would fit in perfectly here. Especially with Wisconsin being known for our love of fish frys.
Nathan F — Google review
If you have kids, this place would be worth stopping at. The kids loved going to the top of the Musky. All the fish statues are really nice and fun to take pictures with. The buildings have so much history about fishing. There is a small playground if you have younger kids.
Carrie H — Google review
I wanted to take my husband here a few years ago. He loves to fish like so many people do so i thought he would enjoy it. We took along our grandson who's 14 since he enjoys the sport as well. I did research it a little since it's a quite far away and the reviews were pretty good. It holds alot of fishing history. So much compacted into sections but nicely displayed. The ground are beautifully kept and the walking paths are wide and clear of any obstacles. I enjoyed the large staues of different types of fish along the walking paths. They have a souvenir shop, public bathrooms and plenty of resting areas. Thought they would have live fish in the giant pond surrounding the look out musky, a better view of the sign that says your here, for a tree is covering most of it and a few different hats to purchase. But over all glad we went
Tina B — Google review
An engaging experience with lots of fishing-related (duh) exhibits. There must be a hundred boat motors on display, from the very early 1900s to the '70s. Be careful, you might learn something!
Dave K — Google review
Definitely different. History of lures, trolling motors & engines was interesting. The grounds with the larger than life fish was pretty cool. If you're into this stuff, then you definitely need to stop by & visit.
Diana H — Google review
Such a great place. Me and my family loved it. So much history. Alot of neat fishing and boating things you would never see anywhere else. A must stop when visiting Hayward

Wilderness Walk Zoo

Fun place to take small children. The walk through goes in a whole circle making it convenient for walking with children. Playground is nice to get out extra energy. Cute little gift shop to get treats and ice cream. Benches placed around the property to sit and take a break. The kids loved to go into the petting zoo and feed the fish and goats. If your in the Hayward area with small children, it would be a fun place to stop and visit. Would recommend. We went three times last summer. 😁
The F — Google review
Super fun place to see a wide variety of animals. You can feed and pet a lot of them, which I had a blast doing. I loved watching the lemurs play and a lot of the goats were obsessed with chin scratches. If you’re in need of some nature therapy, this is the place to go.
Erica — Google review
We came here on a whim after staying for a week in a town nearby. What a hidden gem this place is! With 2 young children, this place kept them entertained for hours. The animals look well taken care of, and we really appreciated the immersive set up of the whole park. Our favorite part was getting to walk through the open area where dozens of whitetail deer still enjoy their natural habitat but you can be apart of their world. There is a restaurant area as well as fun little mining area where kids can dig for gold. If they find gold, they can bring it to the attendance at the food stand for a sucker. How fun! We really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back if in the area again!
Ash — Google review
This the most depressing "zoo" I've ever seen. Bears, a tiger, and a wolf, in little more than a chainlink kennel with a concrete floor. No grass, minimal shelter, little water, zero enrichment, the poor wolf was pacing stressed out little circles in its tiny enclosure. None of the other animals had it much better, it was all so sad. This place needs to be shut down for animal abuse. Everything else is run down and literally falling apart. These animals deserve better. And the free roaming deer - there was one in the petting zoo. Outside, there was a long pen, half a football field at most, with at least 2 dozen deer. No grass, almost no shelter, just dirt and a mud puddle. But hey, the tortoise enclosure did have this giant, completely inappropriate climbing enclosure. I don't know how the owner sleeps at night, it's abysmal.
Nora C — Google review
It was a very nice place to visit. A variety of animals and old buildings to look through. Fun for young and old.
Kelly M — Google review
Was very hot, but was surprised alot of animals were out and about. Was surprised by changes from when we used to take kids till yesterday. Not bad just could use a little sprucing up.
Tina P — Google review
Great outing. We got so close to the animals and a good variety of them!

St Croix Casino Turtle Lake

Casino
Casinos & Gambling
Relaxed lodging with a casino, indoor pool & dining options, plus free Wi-Fi, breakfast & parking.
Wonderful customer service! After the other hotel in town denied my service animal ( with proper documentation) they were able to get us a room and even gave us the info to get a discount! Very clean rooms, nice pool and hot tub, and reasonably priced!
Tracy S — Google review
⭐ 1/5 This casino has gone downhill fast. They used to send monthly flyers with free play, great promotions, and a solid buffet with reasonably priced, good food. Now? The buffet’s gone, replaced by a lackluster sports book with limited betting options. They yanked all the good slot machines, jacked up the craps minimum bet, and raised food prices while the quality tanked. Daily food promos for players? Either gone or so expensive they’re pointless. Their “Ladies Night” is a scam—you play for free play and drawings, but they don’t even announce hourly winners, just lie about it. No reason to come here anymore. I used to spend a lot but won’t eat or play here again. Save your money and go elsewhere. Response to Casinos comment. I received mailers every month for the past few years, something changed on your end because I played enough to qualify and stopped receiving them. Now when you ask the front desk how to qualify they all give you different vague answers. Plus you don't do any free swipes anymore you have to play $10 to get $15, not really a promo to draw anybody in. Of course Casinos all change slots frequently but you have tightened them up so nobody wins much anymore. All the promos and food prices changed in the last few months and not for the better. You will lose a lot of loyal customers that used to come a few times a week like myself.
K — Google review
We had a lot of fun over our two days, one night at Turtle Lake Casino. Our experience and observations lead us to determine that playing the tables is the way to fatten your pockets. We played a wide variety of slots with little success, in fact nickel wins were pitiful and plentiful. You will do well on live craps and machine craps. The restaurant is a very good value. Will definitely be back.
Zena S — Google review
The casino has gone downhill this past year. Took away the $5 for food monthly. Taking things off the menu and raised prices. Use to get $10 a month to play. Imagine our surprise (and not a nice one!!) to find out we didn't spend enough money in May 2025 to get ANY MONEY for June. WTH?? Apparently if you are not a big spender, you are SOL. No newsletter delivered to us as of June 30th. Apparently going there twice in June didn't get us anything. 😡 Come on!!!! We spend the same amount we have for years, but obviously we are not worthy of being a part of Turtle Lake Casino anymore. So disappointed 😞
Luanne F — Google review
To call this a Sportsbook is not accurate. Severely limited bets so often. I had a 3 team parlay I wanted to get a $1000 limited to $256, what kind of Sportsbook limits parlay bet to $256? If seen futures limited to $28. On any busy sports day, you have to wait in line forever to place a bet while people take 30 minutes to place $5, 10 team parlay. They don’t have Sportsbook employees that know what’s going on, let alone anyone in the casino. The machines stopped working after driving to place thousands in sports wagers (Masters). I was told to talk to a bartender. The bartender told me to talk to floor man, but didn’t know where he was and said he didn’t have authority to call them. He then directed me to beverage manager who knew nothing, because we couldn’t find floor man. After going to the front (they apparently have authority) they called the floor man. Turns out he had no idea what was going on or when it’d be fixed. Maybe it’s an upgrade? He said. I walked out with $6000 in my pocket and drove MI. They don’t know what’s they are doing, won’t keep customers that want to wager real money, and they prob don’t care. My guess is same people have run this casino forever, and it’s easy to be complacent because old people and slot revenue is a very easy, unchanging business. Also, the poker room is a smoke filled hot box on 2nd floor with apparently very little ventilation. This makes $1-$2 NL the best way to take years off your life and increase chance of lung cancer by 20%-30%. Who at the casino thinks this is good for business? The casino seems to employ 10x the security of a normal casino and has several groups of security constantly circling the casino. It's very bizarre. It’s too bad. The opportunity this place has a great opportunity to serve the new demand sports betting is generating in the region, run a legit Sportsbook and pull lots of money from MN / MPLS. They either don’t know what they are doing or don’t care enough to learn customer experience / needs relating to sports betting. Seems they could do so much more with Poker room too. My conclusion is the business is clearly aimed at the old folks who like to smoke and slap 75 cent slots. Very profitable, im certain. And it doesn't require the management / ownership to do anything as it's been the same for decades.
Dr S — Google review
Worst experience in a casino. Party of seven having a great time cut off from the bar suddenly for zero reason. Will never step foot in this or another affiliated property. Terrible security staff and consumer relations experiance. Update: Then I suggest not treating perfectly acceptable consumers like a criminal.
Daniel G — Google review
My husband and I had a disappointing experience. We both approached the bar at different times but received the same disrespect and discrimination based on the color of our skin from the same older bartender. We waited patiently for our drinks, but he intentionally skipped serving us and instead helped other customers. His actions were clear, and his behavior was unprofessional and hurtful, making us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. No customer should be subjected to such treatment. I hope the management takes this matter seriously and ensures that all guests are treated with dignity and respect. This will be the last time I visit this place.
Anya S — Google review
So disappointed in St Croix casino. I am wondering if and when they got new management ,they had a senior day where you could get 15 and free play and Saturday night for the younger people would get 10 in free play now they changed it where you have to get one point. So you have to spend $10 to get 15 That is not a promotion to draw people in. We used to eat in the restaurant three times a week now they cut out all the promos for that. In the last 3 weeks anytime I stop there there's maybe six people in the restaurant there used to be a waiting line to get into eat. I'm assuming they laid off most of the workers. Not sure if they're struggling financially or if they got management that doesn't know how to run things. I hope they turn this around soon because they're losing all their patrons.

Gilligans in Chetek- bar, restaurant & lodging

Bar
Nightlife
Cocktails & American grub served in a lakeside grill with an outdoor tiki bar & live music.
Came in for dinner cause I have a friend who works here and let me tell you it was amazing. From the second we walked in the atmosphere was incredible. Our hostess sat us quickly and we had the sweetest most attentive server Brittany. She made sure we had everything we needed. The food, wow the words can't even describe how amazing it was. We got gator bites which my husband loved and the cheese curds melted in our mouth. The entrees too were cooked perfectly and so amazing. We eat quite a bit of bar food and normally I don't feel well after but this was well made and amazing. We even ate them as leftovers and sometimes left overs don't taste as well this food. Even cold and reheated AMAZING. I highly recommend coming here at least once I know we will for sure be back often!!

First time here and we enjoyed it. The night we went it was very slow. We had 3 adults and 3 kids. Waitress was was good. I got the Prime Island sandwich with the shaved prime rib and onion sails (petals) in the side ($15). I really enjoyed it. I felt my meal was worth the price, but another person at my table got the nightly special which was pasta. It was a good tasty dish, but very small portion for the cost. Overall, I would try this place again if I was in area.

A Fantastic Memorial Day Lunch at Gilligan's in Chetek! My wife, daughter, and I had a truly delightful Memorial Day lunch at Gilligan's in Chetek, WI, and we couldn't have been more impressed. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and vibrant. The fun decor immediately caught our eye, creating a lively backdrop that felt just right for a family outing. We appreciated how comfortable and welcoming it felt, allowing us to relax and enjoy the music and ambiance without feeling out of place with our daughter. We kicked off our meal with the alligator bites, which were a delicious and adventurous start to our lunch. For our main courses, my wife raved about her garlic Parmesan salmon, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. I opted for the classic lake perch, and it certainly didn't disappoint – fresh, flaky, and wonderfully prepared. Our daughter was happy with her quesadilla, a perfect kid-friendly option. Throughout our meal, our server was absolutely fantastic. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, following up regularly without being intrusive. Their excellent service definitely enhanced our dining experience, making us feel well-cared for. To cap off our delicious lunch, we indulged in the key lime pie for dessert, and it was simply divine – a perfect balance of tart and sweet, and a truly satisfying end to our meal. Overall, Gilligan's provided a memorable Memorial Day experience. The combination of delicious food, a great atmosphere, and excellent service made for a perfect family lunch. We highly recommend Gilligan's to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience in Chetek!

The front of the building is deceiving of what a great establishment this is. Go around the side to the outdoor bar. Food and drink served there too. And the dock for lake customers to pull up to enjoy the atmosphere too. Great food and drink selection. Our bartender/server, Scott, was very personable. He was a local so had plenty of local activity suggestions.

The waitress was by herself waiting on us, 4 other tables plus a group of 11. Very slow service. there was a table of 5 that ordered there drinks, they did get those but never got to order food. they up and left. Our pasta was cold and a small serving for the price. They should have had more waitresses. Don't know if we'll go back.

Very disappointed after ordering cheeseburger and fries. Mcdonalds does a better burger kind of sad.this used to be a great place to go. Buns were small and smashed.looking. the burger thin and cheese was an unmelted piece.like a Kraft single. Not at all what we expected. We expected it to be good

I have been going to Gilligan's as long as it changed to Gilligan's and before when it was The Spot. The owners have changed over the years many times. The wings are great. We come up to Chetek and go to get the wings twice since we are here 2 weeks. The issue I see is they added on for outside seating and other seating and the kitchen is the same size. This seems be the one of the issues. The service yesterday was very slow, we ordered the food and we had to ask at the front when will we get the food after one hour. Wings don't take that long especially when its wing night. The server was running from one side to the other side and outside. How can you service the customer and get the food? Other tables around us were complaining for the same reason. They were ordering other food items burgers, wraps ect. I see a lot of complaining about the service on the reviews and saw it first hand and even my experience. Again wings big tasty and waffle fries great.

Beautiful performance theater with wonderful sound. We’ve seen two performances (Home Grown Tomatoes) and wish we lived closer to see more performances.

Last night I attended the Asleep at the Wheel performance at your glorious theater. The band was high energy and vocals/instruments were superb. I understand they will quit touring at the end of 2026. Please book them for at least one more time and I promise to buy at least 2 tickets and tell all my Texas Swing loving friends.

What a great experience! The staff was nice, the theater was beautiful, the drinks were great, and the show was amazing!

I want to show my appreciation for the pleasant and helpful box office personnel. My husband and I were unable to attend the performance that I had purchased tickets for and I called to ask if there was a way to transfer tickets on the day of the performance. The woman I spoke to not only answered my question but helped me with names that were on a list for tickets for the sold out performance. I was able to sell the tickets easily, and as a bonus, when I called back with the name to transfer the tickets to she let me know that the person was known to her and was trustworthy to send a check.

Oh my gosh! We have known of this place for years. But it took the Buddy Holly Dance Party Reunion to get us through the doors! What a beautiful theater. Wonderful, intimate setting and the acoustics were great. We brought our teenage boys and they enjoyed the show and the amazing details of the design and interior finishings. We look forward to visiting again, very soon.

We love hiking the Circle Trail. It's 4-5 miles of beautiful trails that wind through forests and along lakes. This trail can be challenging at times but it is worth the effort. This is one of our favorite places to hike.

So much to see and do! Not to mention the miles of trails.
Brian T — Google review
The Ice Age Trail segment through here is lovely, and there are multiple loop trails in the rec area that make for interesting day hikes. While it's great in summer (bring the bug spray, lots of water and shady trees), try this in the dead of winter when the water is frozen over. Bring a pair of snowshoes and try the loop trails - this is some of the finest winter hiking around.

Irvine Park Zoo is a 318-acre city park in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, offering a variety of attractions for visitors. The park features a petting zoo, cross-country ski trail, historical buildings such as a 1903 schoolhouse, and picnic grounds. Visitors can explore miles of hiking paths and venture through the zoo to see well-cared-for animals.
Irvine Park is fun to go to anytime of the year the animals are great the kids have a blast they have playgrounds picnic areas animals walking areas the farm. Going around Christmas time is one of my favorites the Christmas display that they put on is so cute. They have tons of lights and figures and at the end towards the animals they have stories which my kids love to stop and read..My kids have a blast doing this. If you go through for the light show there are quite a few cars that go so you may get stuck in a line but it is a decent moving line for the most part. When you go to see the lights you can walk through the parks and the lights or you can drive.
The F — Google review
Nice park and zoo with great views. We visited in the end of April so petting zoo was closed and some animal were not visible but we still had a good time. I was impressed at how accessible everything was by wheelchair and walker and the many benches that allowed rest breaks when needed. We did not see the whole area but many kids were enjoying the playground equipment and we enjoyed watching the geese in the river.
Deb H — Google review
This is a great park & zoo! We have 3 children 4 and under and are vacationing in Lake Holcombe. The drive wasn’t too long and this is a great stop perfect for an adventure when not looking for an entire day stop. Bear, hyena, cow, eagle, hawk, and other small animals. Two playgrounds, a trail, and views of the river. And it’s free but you may leave a donation if you want. So glad we stopped! Highly recommend a visit!
Cala N — Google review
If you are in the area, this is a MUST. Our expectations were beyond exceeded, and we are literally planning a trip back to see more of the property. The park itself is both massive, and absolutely GORGEOUS. As for the Zoo, what they are doing is amazing. They have delivered a top notch facility for both the animals and guests alike, and I can enjoy the space in good conscious knowing the animals are being cared for incredibly well. I would strongly recommend this place.
Jason S — Google review
The zoo is really not the highlight of this park, it's the beautiful green space, playgrounds, picnic areas, water features and attention to renewing native plants that make it great! AND it's free. I am impressed!
Faith M — Google review
Unfortunately this place is small, outdated, and sad. The animals all live on concrete floors with almost no enrichment, and there's about 6 of them to see. When we went they were repairing the lion enclosure, which had broken windows and broken wooden bridges inside for the lion. Sadly the animals do not seem happy or well kept, and the zoo owners seem to be asking for donations on every bad review rather than trying to find better homes for these creatures. Avoid at all costs!
Colin Z — Google review
Irvine Park is a beautiful place to explore. A lot of animals to see, nice nature trails with different experience levels, a petting zoo, splash pad, picnic areas and multiple playgrounds. All of the kids (ages 4,10,15) loved the dirt hiking trails by the river, waterfall and rock cliffs. The petting zoo is only opened certain days/times so definitely check if that's what you'd like to see. All of the other zoo animals are in enclosed glass, cages or in large fenced areas outside. The large animals are harder to spot in the fields but more exciting for the kids. Inside you can find frozen drinks, ice cream, snacks, hotdogs and other treats. Plus the museum with tons of really old trinkets, animal furs, even a carriage! I would highly recommend Irvine Park to anyone visiting or local looking for something fun outdoors to do with the family! We go at least once a month if not more! And the Christmas Village every year is breathtaking, definitely check it out if you haven't seen it!
Amyjo — Google review
We actually came across this while trying to find a spot for a picnic while on the road. This was a hidden gems that we enjoyed so much. Would love to come back and explore again. There was not a lot of animals when we went but it is based off donations and I wish I had a million to give away.

Located in Chippewa Falls, Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is a 145-year-old brewery that offers free tours throughout the year. Visitors can explore the brewery's history and modern operations, with options for one-hour or two-hour tours. The longer tour includes a tasting glass. Reservations are recommended, and there's also a gift shop, lodge rentals, and an event calendar to explore.
We really enjoyed our short time here. The beer was really good and it was fun to learn all the different flavors that you get when mixing different beers. We also bought some shirts (super cute, nice quality) along with some Wisc. cheese and beef sticks. Really nice staff that instantly makes you feel welcomed. They also have a nice patio to enjoy your flight of beer. The only complaint that we have is how early they close on a sat (8pm)
Jessica B — Google review
Really sad to see the brewery production stopping. Had a great time going on tour, fabulous guide. I booked the tour same day and they couldn’t squeeze my husband in, so I went alone. I was super disappointed they couldn’t let him in, seemed like one more wouldn’t have ruined anything. Really neat historical place, definitely recommend! The beer is interesting, lots of fruity choices. Samples come with the tour. Lots of merchandise, super impressive!
Angela T — Google review
I went on a well thought out tour with guide Miranda. Heard how the Leinenkugel beer is made & saw the process to make the beer. Good tasting & merchandise. I got a hat & shirt too. Fun board games, Rummikub, events such as music, trivia, dogs can come outside on certain evenings, & pinball machines.
Trevor G — Google review
A beautiful, open space. They have a section with a detailed history of the brewing company. It has a lot of seating and two bars, which speeds up service because the place can grow busy after work. Unfortunately, they don’t always have all their beers on tap, so you might check before you go if you have your heart set on one in particular.
JC C — Google review
At Leinenkugel's Tasting Brew Pub's cozy bar and retail area in Ladysmith, WI, we skipped the tour but were wowed by bartender Tracey's amazing service. We sampled their craft beer flights and all i can say is wow o wow. My favorite was the white mocha stout, a true sleeper. Was balanced with the perfect amount of sweetness. The $15-per-person, one-hour tour sounds like a no-brainer for next time. Can’t wait to stop by again next year!
Eric H — Google review
A unique brewery with tours operating daily, get out here before Jan 17th 2025 to experience the brewery before the tours cease. We had a great time and our tour guide was great!
Joseph W — Google review
Beautiful location with a great tasting room. Was disappointed to find out during the tour that they had shuttered production operations last January. Recommend they let patrons know prior to tour purchase, as the tour is still given as if it’s an active brewery.

I had the Big Eddy Uber Oktoberfest back in 2013 and found out it was finally available again only at The Leinie Lodge in 2025. I couldn't wait to have it again! It was great, the service was great. I purchased a couple of growers too. Thanks! Bring back the Big Eddy brews permanently!

Chaos Water Park is an indoor water park located inside Metropolis Resort, offering a variety of attractions suitable for all ages. The park features a lazy river, multiple water slides including a pitch-black tube slide and a slower body slide, as well as an aquatic playground with a giant bucket that splashes everyone below when full. There are also areas for water basketball, lily pad climbing, and even a toddler section with spraying fun.
This place was awesome! Super affordable to get in as well as food/drink. They had a ton of floaties and we never had to wait to get one for the slides or lazy river - even on a super packed Saturday. Hot tub was great for the adults but a little too hot for the kids. Slides were a little slow/tame for my 12 year old. Overall we spent over 6 hours at this place and the kids were in bed early. it was definitely worth the stop.
Steve A — Google review
Had a fun Friday night. We had the place to ourselves for about 30 minutes as we went in at 4pm opening. Didn't really see people arriving until closer to 5. Didn't get very busy during our visit. I'm sure other days are different. Worth a visit regardless of age but younger kids will probably enjoy it the most. Slides are fun for older kids and the lazy river is good for everyone else.
Jerome L — Google review
Water slides are perfect for my little kids, my 3 year old is tall enough to ride them. Place is well maintained, lines move fast so not much sitting around.
Nick P — Google review
You guys are good. Although I would recommend adding more stuff, Since my child got bored easily since there was barely any stuff. The slides are good and so is the pool. A lot of balls which made it good since we played Monkey in the Middle but water themed with my son and others.

Awesome place! The kids loved it. The only downside is the one slow slide—nobody really uses it and it hurts your back. Otherwise, we had a great time!

Smaller water park but all indoors. Kids loved the lazy river

I really enjoyed this waterpark! It is located inside the Metropolis Hotel in Eau Claire. It's a great waterpark to go to throughout the year since it's located inside. It is perfect for young kids and has several different areas for different ages. It has a smaller play area for the younger kids, a lazy river, a bigger/slightly deeper area for the older kids with a basketball hoop and 2 slides for the bigger kids/adults. It also has tables and chairs everywhere so there's always a place to sit and set your stuff down. There is also a place called Monkey in the Middle Express (pizza) that's located inside the waterpark area so you don't have to leave to get food or drinks if you don't want to. Very pleased with our stay and can't wait to go back and enjoy this waterpark again with our kids!!

Such a fun place, we didn't have our kids with on this stop but it would be such a great place to stop and let your kids explore. From the massive bubble trampoline, to the pedal go carts, soccer nets and you can watch them milk the cows, make delicious cheese and much more. When you walk in they have a cute little gift shop area, with wine, cheese and other goodies. If you keep walking they have cheese samples and a cafe/ restaurant. I bought a latte and a sandwich and it was seriously so good that I already want to go back. Definitely a must stop here!

Stopped as a road side stop on a road trip to see the giant cow. There is a very clean and nice tractor playground and a bounce pad that looks like cheese. We got to go in and see the milking of the cows. And we got to ride little bikes around a track! That was super fun for the kids and myself! Great stop with food, small souvenir things, and even restrooms. Kids get the energy out, parents enjoy a moment.

This was Awesome! We didn't exactly eat here but we did get lots of cheeses and based off the ones we got to try they are all Fabulous! We missed the tour they do 2 a day at 9am & 1pm, cost is $10 a person. However we did get to walk around and see the cows being milked and visit with the calves. It's a very well run and taken care of dairy farm and cheese factory. Don't miss it!

Delicious fresh Gouda cheese can be purchased here. The also have a nice selection of Homemade chocolates, sausages, hot stix, pizzas, and many other snack items to enjoy. Tours are available for a small cost. A fun place to bring the Family! Outside seating as well as inside seating for those who wish a sit down meal. Activities for kids outdoors.

This was an interesting stop, we bought a bunch of cheeses to take home, all of which we have enjoyed so far! Our food was good in the cafe, but nothing mind blowing. While I would definitely buy packaged cheese there again, I don't feel like I need to eat at the cafe again specifically. It was fun to watch the cows get milked and see the racks of cheese wheels.
Kailey P — Google review
Was recommended to me by a co-worker and although it is during the winter it still didn’t disappoint. I definitely look forward to the warmer months to be able to take a full tour. The whole setup was great for the kids as they loved being able to see the calfs up close and pet them… and of course you can’t forget the GOUDA! So delicious

Wines are great. All of the country wines are apple based. For me personally they give me a little heartburn but that's personal. Love the staff. Love the service. Love the views. You can come with your own snacks and water if you'd like. Wines are reasonable from a price perspective.

What a beautiful place. I would recommend anybody to go there. It is well-thought-out. Well, wait out and as a veteran, I could not believe how phenomenal the people are there. They are down-to-earth and they did one hell of a job. Putting that place together.I'm gonna go back and I will be buying one of those stones with the names on it and my name will be on 1 God bless those people I would recommend this so highly , I can't speak enough.About them Everything. Is free except the gift shop but they have a museum. There very well kept up. My Lord is just gorgeous. I can't say enough. God bless. Everybody goes there and God bless the United States, are we state? And god bless the veterans who protect our rights and freedoms

This is the best veteran's memorial location I have ever visited! Hands-down! So well done. If you have veteran friends or family....take them there (if they want to go). This place is beautiful and touching and historically educational. The thought and attention that has gone into this vision is incredible. I will go back. I want to take my Mom there. Don't listen to the negative reviews as we just spent last night here and everything about it was great. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was really good, the slots actually did pay out and the live band up behind the bar was very good and an added bonus. The hotel room was very nice and quiet and the bathroom was very large and nicely renovated. I will say the bed was on the soft side which I was fine with but my husband would have liked it more firm. That's really the only negative thing I would say about our stay. We will definitely be back!

Went to bingo on Saturday evening and again Sunday am. Jason the supervisor and Tyler were awesome. You are lucky to have them on your staff. Very hard working people. Extremely friendly and helpful. We went to the casino and played slots. It was fun as well the staff were friendly as well. All of the bathrooms we used were extremely clean and smelled nice. We were very happy with our trip there and will be back. Thanks.

- House keeping doesn't turn off alarms - no blackjack tables after midnight - no fruit or veggies at the buffet - pre-paying for late check-out is completely uncoordinated. We had house keeping not only knock on our do not disturb door but immediately open our door after knocking, again after prepaying for the service, with a sleeping toddler in the room Incredibly unapologetic and horrible hotel service. I would recommend staying elsewhere.
Joey R — Google review
Hotel room was fine few spots needed some TLC like the air vent, filled with dust. Maybe there’s something going on behind the scenes but the employees were very edgy and rude. Not just one from checkin to checkout. Was a quick few hour stop over, worked out but wouldn’t stay again. The Comfort Inn down the road is much better with accommodating staff.
JAY P — Google review
The hotel for cleanliness and quiet is 5 stars, front desk angel Sarah gets 5 stars, smoke free casino gets 10! Not having food options after 7pm gets 1 star. It’s a place where people sleep over, people aren’t eating at 6. So that part was unfortunate, but the rest of the hotel and casino were great.

Scenic 21-mi. trail for biking, jogging & walks through forest, prairies, wetlands & over bridges.
Lovely trail, plenty of rest stops with bathrooms and plenty of options for food.

If looking for a trailhead to get on the trail, this spot isn't it. But once you get on it, it's a good trail. The park in Bangor is nice. Trail itself is getting a bit grown in spots, my hands were brushing the bushes a bit
Rebecca A — Google review
One of the most beautiful places I've spent an afternoon exploring. I went out in search of morel mushrooms using the trail and was very successful. I'm happy I took the time to wlj this trail and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to spend some time in nature. Very easy trail ti hike well maintained and accessible for any age weather your 80 or 8 this trail will be right for you

The landscape reminded me of a song from John Denver “country roads take me home to the bike paths in Wisconsin” (sorry West Virginia ) Wisconsin was the first rails to trail 😊

Day was overcast, had a bit of rain but road the trail anyways. Such a beautiful trail to ride. There are some spots that probably could do with a bit of repair, and there was a bit of a wash out area and a tree across the trail. It just added to the challenge. Still truly enjoyed the day tho. Enjoy visit this bike trail at least once a year.

We picked up the trail at the Sparta information booth. It is an old rail station and kept up well. There is plenty of information inside and even a gift shop. A trail pass is required and can be purchased here. It is uphill mostly to get to the nearest tunnel, but well worth the ride. Keep up a steady pace and stay in top of gear changes. There are great views, shade, benches and bridges along the way. The tunnel is 3/4 of a mile long and about 20° cooler than outside. Be sure to have a bike light or flashlight. Groundwater drips down inside the tunnel, so be prepared to get a little wet. The trail is even and compact with very little ruts. It was an enjoyable day.
Jon S — Google review
Easy, relatively flat trail. Wooded and shaded for long sections with some exposed sections. We started at Sparta and went to the Purple Cow in Bangor and back this trip. Hard packed rock trail that road bikes unless very sensitive can use.

Ben Bikin' Sculpture

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Ben Bikin' Sculpture is next to a nice little paved walking trail next to the river. There's a pretty bridge over the river too. There's also a nice little park across the road with swings and a little jungle gym with a few slides for kids to play on.
Wendy K — Google review
It's like a 20 ft tall sculpture of a guy riding a bike so yeah it's pretty much exactly what you would expect from a park that is called Ben's Bike sculpture.
Brandon S — Google review
If you’re road-tripping through Wisconsin and love a good quirky roadside stop, Ben Bikin’ in Sparta is one you’ll want to reroute for—just like I did. 🏍️ I literally planned my route just to drive by and snap a pic—and it was 100% worth it. There’s something hilarious and oddly charming about seeing this giant guy pedaling nowhere, looking like he belongs in a steampunk time machine.
Deanna T — Google review
The statue is huge! This is a very nice, small park with an informational shelter and a bridge. Very picturesque. A trail leads to other parks and into downtown. A nice area to stop and enjoy some scenery.
Nathan F — Google review
Numerous reasons. Love biking. It's clean. The people are knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back..
Show C — Google review
No real place to park, but a cool picture and picnic opportunity. No tables but there is nice shade to put a blanket down.

Interesting place with a cute river. Push the doorbell on the Ben Bikin bust to get a little overview of the city

A neat little park, with a huge statue of a man on his bicycle, and a beautiful foot bridge built by locals. It's a great place to visit!

Heard about this and went the same day. Really informative exhibits and very enjoyable museum. The gift store had quite a variety of cranberry products to check out. Didn't eat at the cafe but did indulge in some cranberry ice creams. Happy we went!
Beth P — Google review
First, this museum is done to perfection. It tells you everything you didn't know about cranberries! Second, the gift shop has a lot of handmade local crafts. Third, the food was delicious. It was everything you would expect from going to the local lunch counter. Last, the people were welcoming and the service was great.
Kristy O — Google review
Super cute store & museum! Sad we missed the festival by 2 days but worth the drive & a great activity.
Brittany V — Google review
It was a little confusing when we first walked in because there are multiple areas and they wanted to know where we wanted to go (and we needed to know what they had to offer - what our choices were). BTW: the basement is the museum area, the main floor has a gift shop (with everything cranberry) and a restaurant (with some food options and ice cream, including cranberry ice cream - which was good and definitely worth trying). It was interesting learning about cranberry production in Wisconsin (definitely learned a few things).
Chip E — Google review
Nice little gift shop, they also have a cafe but we did not try anything, the museum in the basement is nice gives you a lot of information on the process of cranberries and how they harvest and package them.
Tom E — Google review
Terrific breakfast. They also have a salad bar and ice cream in the restaurant. Store on other side has Lots of cranberry wines to choose from, jams and other things in the store.
Slwpdx — Google review
Maps listing says they’re open every day but Monday. Their website says they’re open everyday but Monday. The sign on the side of the building says open everyday day but Monday. Here it is a Tuesday and they’re closed. Small sign on the door says closed Monday AND Tuesday. Update your hours online !!! People schedule trips based on things like this.
Shawna N — Google review
It's all about cranberries: growing, harvesting, distributing, and eating. Lunch is served on the main floor and the Discovery Center is in the lower level. Charles was our private tour guide. He farmed cranberries so he knew the history, the equipment, and all the steps from planting to harvest to distribution. Lunch in the roomy cafe was chicken salad on wild rice cranberry bread, chips, a beverage, and cranberry ice cream. Yum! The Discovery Center also has a gift shop filled with all things cranberry.

Humbird Cheese

Gift & Specialty Shops
Humbird cheese is a large store dedicated to featuring local cheese from Wisconsin in addition to tidbits for the kitchen as well as jams, pickles and sausages. The selection and the variety of the items in the store indicates a talented management with good taste. The customer service is superb. The store is super clean and well organized
Sara K — Google review
I was really hoping for more from Humbird Cheese, but it turned out to be pretty much what I expected. If you're into touristy spots with novelty items, this might be your kind of place. There were a few authentic products here and there, but overall it felt more like a stop to kill time and browse things you can find just about anywhere with a couple of unique exceptions. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype for me. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return. It’s definitely more of a tourist trap than a true cheese shop.
Ryan C — Google review
This is such a cute little shop! It is SO unique and eclectic! There are so many different kinds of cheese, fudge, crackers, meats, and other snacks and trinkets. As a Canadian and hearing that Wisconsin is known for their cheese, this shop proves that!
Jessica ( — Google review
On our recent trip between Madison, WI, and Minneapolis, MN, we stopped here. There is a huge selection with some rarer choices available. They have samples too. Our favorite was the smoked Gouda. Cheese curds, sausages, cheese spreads and great gifts for people who don’t live in Wisconsin are also available. Staff is very friendly and will wax your choices for travel if you wish. This was definitely worth the stop.Would return again and recommend to others!
Andy N — Google review
So much good cheese and very friendly staff. The fudge is also delicious. They have a wide variety of touristy stuff.
Timothy C — Google review
I've driven by this place for years, always curious, but always hurried. I skipped lunch & decided to pay them a visit. The staff were friendly & helpful. Practically every square inch of the large shopping area was jam-packed with touristy priced trinkets and foodstuffs from all over, even other cheese factories. It was a bit much, and it took away from the star of the show, CHEESE! Their main cheese case was up front, containing roughly 50+ cheese varieties. In the back, upright case, I found their smoked string cheese. A bag of freshly dried cranberries, and chocolate mint fudge also made it to the checkout counter. I was surprised everything was prepackaged, and they didnt/couldn't offer samples. But, all my purchased items were fresh, and the best I've ever tasted. It was worth the stop, and a return visit!
Mik R — Google review
Cheese, cheese and more cheese and everything else. Went for the cheese 🧀 good prices, informative staff and very friendly! Would recommend.

Stopped here just after seeing a billboard and was happy we did. Nice place to get different cheese (love cheese curds). They have a bunch of knick knacks, ice cream, a meat selection and candy plus more snacky stuff for the road. Next trip to Wisconsin dells I will be stopping by for more curds.

I won at the other three casinos we stopped at the day I drove back from Hayward with my friend. I donated my winnings to this one...well I couldn't pull myself away from the machines. It's not them it's me! Had fun and so happy her home was only 20 minutes away!

The casino is up to date. Lots of fun games. Not easy to win. The bar is nice but it would be nice to have a few tables in the bar area. The food in the restaurant is just okay. It would be nice to offer some gluten free options.
Roseann F — Google review
This is a very fun casino that I visit whenever I have the opportunity. It was especially so, recently because it's been a while since I've been able to make the journey. If you haven't been there in a while yourself, there are many new machines to get acquainted with. 😊
Robin H — Google review
The tall Bartender, was fast. He bought a Reesse's and put a candle in it and sang happy birthday to my mom. Another Bartender, she is never behind the bar. Short with glasses. not impressed. we wont go in if we see her. We will be going back, to play.
Robert — Google review
The food was pretty good. We had an excellent waiter; he made sure everything was good. I got to be the first to try a drink the bartender was making; was very tasty. I do wish they had a buffet, which was what we were originally looking for. I am a big fan of seafood, and not to many places offer a good seafood buffet anymore. A casino offering a seafood buffet would be a hit. Overall, good place to grab a bite to eat.
Julie K — Google review
It is much smaller than the casino in Baraboo but the games are similar and although it was on the weekend that I went there were not too many people so there wasn't any problem finding a parking space and I pretty much could play any game that I wanted to. A stress free enjoyable evening

I stopped by with a couple of birdwatching friends who had been before. We were on a long drive, so they knew there was a nice picnic spot next to the Visitor Center. The trail next to the Center offered a nice after lunch walk with several nice spots to stop and view the wildlife.
Darin J — Google review
Stopped in a few times now and wow is NNWR huge, easy to get lost. I've only come later in the season when most birds have already migrated. I do see fishing, hunting, and getting fire wood are on the list of things you can do here. Plenty of trails of any length, blinds and observation towers to sit and chill watching wildlife. The visitor center is big, a little shop for souvenirs, leaning center, and definitely kid friendly. Looks like during summer they have plenty of activity's for the whole family.
Ryan S — Google review
We were on our way to another state park when signs popped up for this one, so we thought, why not and drove it. Best choice of the day! The visitors center is gorgeous and has lots to offer, including a gift shop we may have enjoyed a little too much haha. I had a great educational conversation with one of the gals about milkweed as I'd never seen it before. Everyone was so helpful and well educated on the park. The bog walk was amazing, I love it when parks have them. I'm totally freaked out by ticks so not having to walk in the tall grass was excellent. So many birds to watch and look for. Some of the birds seem ok with people being around and didn't mind us walking and chatting. Definitely have a stop here, there's a few lookout posts to stop at that have stationary binoculars you can use.
Bonnie A — Google review
Labor Day so the main building was closed (unfortunate but expected). The nature center path was good, nice boardwalk, good viewing areas, and perfect distance. However, we tried finding the tower trail and it was heavily damaged by logging and could not find the path. The tower was decent, not very high. Then, the boghaunt trail was out of commission (boardwalk broken up). Potential to be great but really ugly first impression. 😕
Bikes W — Google review
Update 09/21/23 So much better than the last time! Absolutely perfect day to be here. Hiked for about 2 1/2 hours, and would have stayed longer if I didn't have other places to visit while in the area before losing sunlight (Ship Rock and Rabbit Rock). I will definitely return again in the future (hopefully while the center is open). This is one of several Wisconsin destinations that everyone should see at least once in their life! I think we came a week or two early, we didn't see very much wildlife. Still, there were beautiful sounds of nature and it is a nice serene area. The view from the tower was very nice, and we liked seeing the few birds, turtles, squirrels, and chipmunks. We plan to go back sometime when everything is green again. Worth checking out if you're in the area, but wasn't really worth the time for as far as we drove to see it at the time we went.
Nathan F — Google review
What a beautiful place! I have visited the refuge many times and we always enjoy ourselves whether it is sunny or rainy. The workers are helpful and knowledgeable in the visitor center. Our last visit, we were able to see a deer and river otter while walking.
Teresa B — Google review
Beautiful sanctuary with many trails, easily accessible. Basically deserted when we visited.
T. C — Google review
Fantastic trails, could spend DAYS there. So many different habitats- home to an incredibly diverse population of wildlife. Trails are very well maintained- whether they’re boardwalks, mowed grass, or gravel. Bonus: the main trail next to the welcome center is handicapped accessible!

This place was beautiful. We checked the overlook and then took the two point five mile hike to Old settlers trail to Taylor's Hollow overlook. We chose to go left at the fork I would suggest go right if it's hard for you to climb up steps. We made but our first hike of the Year.

Lovely views across the Driftless on the Old Settlers trail - lucky to experience almost no mosquitoes this June, either! 😆 Ice Cave trail is super-short but surprisingly neat. It's worth the short detour to see the really interesting erosion formation. The walk-in tent sites are really sweet & relatively secluded. Such a nice camping option.
Xris D — Google review
Nice hiking trails with scenic views, would be spectacular during fall colors. Just to note for those towing campers, the entrance is tight and quite the incline/decline, makes you stop and think "what am I getting into" but it works out in the end. 😅
Ryan P — Google review
Best place to camp EVER! Cart in site are stunning. Vault toilets are clean. Trails are amazing. Just found out we can kayak and canoe on the Kickapoo river. Next time for sure! Be ready to hike hills.

We spent the weekend hiking the horse trails to all the lookout points, some were overgrown but the ones that weren’t were beautiful. The hikes are not for the weak and have some steep inclines. Beautiful views in and around the park.

Family of 4. Went hiking on Hemlock Trail. Not easy, not hard, but a good effort. Probly not ideal if it's been raining. Absolutely worth the hike. The observation point is a easy walk, couple hundred feet from parking. Also did the Ice Cave Trail. 5 minute walk to a beautiful rock face with a trickling waterfall. This place is a must go!

Overall a cool park with a canopy of trees. Trails are clearly marked, services easy to find. Enjoyed hiking around here with family. The 303 steps isn’t bad, if your in shape less than 10 minutes, more casual 15-20 minutes. The walk down from the top offers views as well.

Well maintained throughout the park. The petroglyphs are awesome. Minus the recent graffiti. The bios from the top of the 303 stairs is amazing

Hiking trails are great, and quite a few Geocaches if you are looking. Picnic areas are well maintained, tables are newer.

Had a great time at the park! The steps are now open after having been closed for a while. Nice view from the top, and plenty of benches to rest on if needed while you’re climbing the stairs. Can’t wait to come back in the fall to see the leaves.
Brad K — Google review
Great place to see history. The stairs to the top are being rebuilt after a fire. We'll have to come back when it is complete. The pictures I see from the top are amazing.
Derrick S — Google review
Beautiful campground. Super wooded, most sites very private. Some of the outer sites are smaller and quite sloping, we had a small challenge leveling our van in 29. Nice hiking. May 2025 we did have quite a few ticks. No mosquitoes though! Lots of deadfall for fires and oak firewood for $6 on site.

Easy walking park. Not terribly big. The stairs up the mound were under construction when I went. Massive pines in one area. I saw a deer, but that was all I saw that day.

Amazing place! So glad we chose this one over other ones read about in Dells and surrounding areas. My husband, myself and two daughters(11 and 6) had the best experience. Super friendly, down to earth, helpful people. Did excellent job of taking care of the horses and rotating them out. They helped everyone on horse individually, and explained to each person how to handle their horse… this horse is… to go left do this… to go right do this… Nice scenic trail ride. And on ride, guide kept asking how everyone was doing and what to do when going downhill, uphill, etc They took picture of all of us individually on our horses and with our group. No extra charge. Just a really great experience for first timers. We will definitely be going back there!! Thank you so much!
Lauren S — Google review
We had a wonderful trail ride experience at Red Ridge Ranch this morning! My mother, myself, and young daughter came for a 10am trail ride and after the staff tacked/readied the horses for the group we were on the trail from 10:30-11:30. They had bags of treats you could buy to feed the horses and they currently have a 1 month old foal (baby horse) you can visit in one of the barns. Our trail leader Colin was very friendly and provided lots of anecdotes about the history and local landmarks along the trail. He asked if our group (3 in our party and another family of 4) wanted to trot along several portions and we all agreed so we got to pick up speed in a few fun spots, which was a great added experience! They put my 7 year old daughter at the front of the group and Colin was able to help her/keep an eye on her horse which was very appreciated! The trail itself was beautiful, wide, and well maintained. Would highly recommend this stable for a great horseback riding experience!
Danneka H — Google review
Riding Stable has friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Colin was leading all the horses my family was riding: total 4 horses. He was keeping all of us engaged throughout the trip. My kids were scared at first but the way he communicated with my kids, it made them comfortable. My whole family had the best time. The lady who helped us get on the horses (I forgot her name) was super sweet and professional. It was worth leaving Canyon Creek (had terrible experience there) and coming to Red Ridge Ranch (best experience).
Samra M — Google review
We had a wonderful time at Red Ridge Ranch Riding Stable in Mauston, Wisconsin! My son and I were paired with two beautiful horses, Silver and Candy. The horses were friendly and calm making it a very pleasant ride. Colin, our guide, was fantastic. He was friendly, patient, and made the ride both safe and fun. The trails were scenic and peaceful. Colin pointed out interesting spots along the trail and is very knowledgeable about the ranch. I liked that they have treats available for purchase. It was an added bonus to be able to feed, pet, and interact with the horses before and after the ride. We will definitely be back.
Becca — Google review
We had an amazing time at Red Ridge Ranch! The horseback riding was fun, safe, and well organized. Our guide was informative and made the ride enjoyable, and the horses were well cared for and matched perfectly to our experience level. Cindy was especially friendly and knowledgeable, which made our visit even better. Beautiful setting, great people—we highly recommend Red Ridge Ranch and can’t wait to come back!
Rg0205 — Google review
We did a private ride with Cindy! She was friendly, helpful, and passionate about the Ranch. She told us about the history of the area and her land and gave us recommendations for things to do in the area. We rode Gerry and Sally and they were well trained and easy to ride. It was clear Cindy and her staff take great care of the horses and each other. Red Ridge Ranch also does a Halloween pick your own pumpkin and hay rides in the fall, in the winter the horses do slay rides, and in summer on top of riding, they host a camping trip with the horses in Wildcat Forest. I highly recommend visiting!
Kayla K — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience! The trail is very beautiful and you can tell the horses are well taken care of. The guides get you know your riding experience a bit to perfectly pair you up with your horse, and you also get the choice to trot or not. I will definitely be coming back here :)

My family enjoyed taking an hour long trail ride. The horses were well mannered and beautiful. My kids had fun feeding their horses treats. The guide was patient and kind and had lots of fun facts about the properties history. We will definitely go again.

What a wonderful place. Everyone there was so friendly and knowledgeable. We took our children (age4,6,&8) there and they loved watching the video of how cheese is made start to finish. They loved being able to see the actual workers making the cheese through the windows. The best part was they allowed us to try the cheese curds we just watched them finish making. My kids were so impressed by the “squeaky” cheese. It was Such a fun experience for the whole family. The woman we spoke to was so knowledgeable, patient and informative. We sampled several varieties and my kids loved all of them. Thank you for a great experience!

My visit to the Wisconsin Dells was once again an enjoyable time. I hadn't been to the Dells in over 15 years and wanted to explore a new area. My search led me to Care Valley Cheese Co. and I wasn't disappointed. The variety of cheeses are just amazing. Several are available for tasting. The attendant was very helpful selecting certain ones for tasting that were not already cut in the display. I happily spent approximately $100 on several varieties. Brought the cheese back to Kentucky and invited the family over for a Wisconsin cheese and brats luncheon. I have only a small amount of cheese left and how I wish I could drive over and purchase more, but that's not possible. Just a little too far 😂😂 Thank you for an enjoyable experience and for those reading this review....PLEASE VISIT CARR VALLEY CHEESE CO. The location I visited is approximately 30 miles from the Dells but they do have a location downtown. I just wanted a country drive.

Carr Valley Cheese is an absolute gem! The store itself is wonderful, and the service was beyond polite and helpful. The lady working there (I wish I had caught her name!) was amazing—so sweet, knowledgeable, and spot on with every recommendation she gave. One of the best parts is that the store has samples of everything you’d want to try, which makes the experience even better. On top of that, the prices are fantastic. If you’re in town, don’t miss out on visiting Carr Valley Cheese—you’ll be glad you did! 🧀✨

The cheese is so delicious (everything is amazing and highly recommend trying the aged cheddar) - already dreaming of the next time we can make the trip!

This was my first time here. This is a cute space for great cheese. I LOVE all the free samples. The curd is a must. The bread cheese is great. The spicy beer cheese spread is perfection. The black goat truffle is awesome. We got a variety of cheese, spreads, mustards, jellys while we were there. They have merch and other snacks as well. Really happy we stopped!

We visited the LaValle location and purchased many items from the store. The cheese spread (gouda) was fabulous. All the various cheeses were great. However, we purchased Carr Valley Kitchen Blueberry Jam and this was not acceptable. When we opened the jar there was mold on top of the jam. We have to throw it out so we spent our money on this jam for no reason.

The bread cheese was one of the first cheeses one of the gals had us sample. It was fabulous. Make sure you pick up one when you stop in!
