Amnicon Falls State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Nature park featuring waterfalls & rapids on the Amnicon River, trails & camping.
So many waterfalls to see during an interesting and varied hike. We parked in the first available parking lot off of County Road U and then hiked along the edge of the river on the nicely maintained path. The river churns and rolls along next to you as you walk, and the sound and interesting features of the water movement above and below the falls make the hike so enjoyable. After crossing the bridge, don't miss the chance to hike around the island and check out Snake Pit Falls on the far side. It was the most picturesque of them all! The hike around the island is a little more challenging than along the river. Watch your footing throughout the park as it is easy to trip over the rocks and roots on the paths.
Chanelle S — Google review
This is one of my favorite spots thus far. So much to see here. We hiked for 3.5 hours and could have truly stayed all day. There are so many waterfalls and picturesque stops. The trails have ones less traveled and still get you back to the trails easy enough to explore and not stress about being lost.
ASHLEY Q — Google review
Loved our stay! This campsite was perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. It had everything we needed—fire pit, picnic table, and just the right amount of space between sites to feel private without being isolated. The campground was clean, peaceful, and well-maintained. Pro tip: there are no fancy bathrooms, so be prepared to rough it a bit—but that’s part of the charm! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a simple, enjoyable escape outdoors.
Brennan R — Google review
If you love waterfalls, this wonderful park has several that you can get right in front of, on top of, below, and to the sides. As long as you're sure-footed, you can really get all over them here! You can even swim right up to them in a few spots, like the Lower Falls section. The trails here are nice, wide, and easy-going for the most part (there are some roots and rocks, but nothing terrible). There are picnic tables and grills scattered around, and a lot of places to sit on the ground for a more traditional picnic with incredible scenery. There are several parking locations throughout, and each has some incredibly picturesque views nearby. Not much in the way of playground equipment that I saw, just a swingset, but there may be more in the campground area (didn't go over to that part). I didn't notice any shelters, other than the historic covered bridge. Not a deterrent for me, but something to keep in mind if you visit on a rainy day. This is well worth visiting even from across the country (or from other countries). If you're visiting Wisconsin, this should definitely be on your list. If you live here, but have never been, this is one of the places in our state you should go out of your way to see at least once in your life. This place is absolutely gorgeous and so worth the drive! As a side note, not really of any importance to anyone other than me, this review finally puts me at level 10 on Maps. Almost a decade of adding pictures and places, making videos and reviews. I've always had an incredibly strong wanderlust and love of picture-taking. It brings me great joy showing people the weird and beautiful places to visit in our state (and country). My hope is that I have helped to inspire others to get out and explore, and maybe shown people things they didn't even know existed. I've been all over our country, and Wisconsin is an incredibly beautiful place that I don't think most people realize. Time spent outdoors here is time well spent!
Nathan F — Google review
This state park is open year-round and offers some beautiful sightings of nature. There are plenty of outdoor recreational activities available from camping, hiking, hunting and fishing to picnic areas and swimming. We enjoyed walking the trails and exploring all the geological views as well.
Grlenamored — Google review
Those Falls are just beautiful I've never seen waterfalls like that before they are just gorgeous and that I just felt so connected.
Ash — Google review
This is a great, underappreciated park. It’s small, but tends to be less crowded and you have great access to the waterfalls. It’s a much smaller, more intimate version of Copper Falls. The covered bridge is a really neat, unique feature of this park. We visited on a fall drive and returned a couple years later to camp. While you’re here it’s also a quick drive over to Pattison State Park to see the tallest waterfall in Wisconsin: Big Manitou Falls
Tom E — Google review
Not much too see. Falls are Low. We need rain. Tree look diseased with green lime Growth all over them and the rocks. A lot dead trees down. Bad side rail loose and falling apart. Camp ground very nice.

Pattison State Park

Mentioned on
1 list
State park
Nature & Parks
Pattison State Park is a picturesque area with the highest waterfalls in the state, featuring hiking trails, a beach, nature center and various wildlife. Although entry can be expensive for out of town visitors or those without a pass, the four-mile trail leading to the waterfall provides stunning views and is well-maintained with sturdy bridges. This world-class park is reminiscent of Yellowstone National Park's famous waterfall but has its own mid-western charm.
Lots of great hiking at this park. Campsites are all pull-through which is convenient, but still offer privacy between campsites. Both Big and Little Manitou Falls were impressive, but I felt the views of Little were better. Park is also very convenient to Superior (15-20 minutes) giving you great flexibility on your trip.
Zach W — Google review
Beautiful well maintained park. The hikes along the river, by the wetlands and to the two different waterfall sites are exceptional. The hiking trails were in wonderful shape. They are for the most part easy and family friendly. I camped overnight in my tent and the facilities were clean and my site was in good shape.
Cindy P — Google review
I live in a place that doesn’t have fall foliage so I took a trip to MN and WI in October. This park was my second stop after leaving the airport. The weather was perfect, and the hiking trails were a great way to spend the afternoon/evening. I also loved seeing all the animals by the water. If I’m in the area again I’ll definitely be back!
Steph W — Google review
Nice campground tucked in the woods. Short drive to Superior and Duluth for day trips. The hike to the high falls is pretty neat, nice views for sure. Bring your camera! We can't wait to see how the new bathroom building turns out after construction. We'll definitely be back.
Brittni D — Google review
This park is huge and gorgeous! Not only is there a lake with a beach, but you'll find hiking trails leading to not one, but two incredibly scenic waterfalls! Big Manitou Falls is the fouth tallest waterfall in the U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains, and Little Manitou Falls is one of the most picturesque places in the state. This is like having three parks in one large area. We came at a great time when the waterfalls weren't over or under flowing, and the later time in the day made Big Manitou look like an oil painting. The grounds and buildings are very well-maintained. There are swingsets, a volleyball court, many picnic tables, grills, benches, campsites, and there is a significant amount of parking. This is one of the top must-see locations in Wisconsin, and I can't recommend visiting enough!
Nathan F — Google review
Big Manitou Falls is the attraction here but lots to do in a relatively small area Hiking trails around Interfalls Lake and then from the falls down to the river A number of viewpoints for the falls from several different angles. Definitely worth it to hike the various trails to find platforms (noted on maps for convenience) Highest waterfall in Wisconsin and a glorious sight
Hank Z — Google review
Beautiful park but the walk down (then back up) the large waterfall is extremely hard. I would not recommend this path for older people. The park, beach, camping are excellent. With flush toilets in the community building (yay!)
Stephanie S — Google review
It was a beautiful park! Waterfalls bother here and Amnicon were spectacular. Rv fill was dreadfully slow, but we were informed it was getting fixed the day after our departure. I wouldn't suggest swimming since the beach was full of geese, and therefore goose poo. And the water in the lake was a bit stinky. Also, I ended up being a jerk and overstayed- thinking I had booked until Saturday. Park staff was so nice about it - even though I felt terrible. I bought the people we inconvenienced an extra bundle of firewood. To the people in site 51e on 6/28/25 I'm so sorry! Absolutely recommend this park and would for sure stay here again - and I promise to double triple check my reservation next time. 😅

We stopped in to do sample infused mead and I was an awesome experience, we sat on the porch listening to some live music and sampling their delicious different meads they make. Highly recommend Black Harbor- and the Acer.
Jason S — Google review
Quaint little winery. Definitely a must stop. They have a 5 for $10 tasting that is definitely worth every dollar. We enjoyed everything we tasted and bought two bottles to take home. The lovely lady who was working was kind and very helpful with recommendations on what to see. Don’t miss this place!!
Sandy D — Google review
This is a smaller cider, mead brewery. They offer samples 5 for $10, or spirit samples 3 for $10. The meads are a sweet light crisp mead 9/10! Ciders are light and crisp as well most are semi dry 8/10. Really friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend stopping in! Worth the trip!!
Bethany S — Google review
Great selections of Mead and Cider. Great people there. I love their Mead-jito. If John, an owner, is in and you want a refreshing drink without alcohol, ask for John's drink!
Peung ( — Google review
Disclaimer: Have not been to the meadery. This is just a review of 2 of their meads. I bought a bottle of the dry mead and a bottle of the black mead. I have to say, I'm not a fan of either of them. Too similar to dry wine. When I drink mead, I wanna be able to tell I'm drinking mead. There's almost zero honey character in either, in my opinion.
J K — Google review
Wonderful Meadery, Cidery, Distillery on US2. Very educational and welcoming. We enjoyed the blueberry mead, many of the ciders and cherry kwench. A must stop!
Carrie N — Google review
It was so fun to find this on our way home from Ashland, Wi. It’s such a treat to taste local products! Please visit this neat cozy place! I didn’t get to snap much photos but they do have all kinds of Mead drinks & ciders. The couple John and Kim (Hamilton?) has been running and making these local drinks for the past 28 years! We support local 💯 and they deserve to be recognized more. They are lovely and kind people which makes it an impressive impression, surely! There are toys for kids to get busy with too! But the real deal is the challenge they give to kids with cup & ball, not sure about the name of the game but if you visit you’ll know! Cheers to more Wisconsin place to discover ☺️
Nissel B — Google review
Thr folks at White Winter are always amazing. Their meads and ciders are awesome. You need a gift for someone? Their products will make you everyone's favorite gift giver! They'll ship! If you get the chance, stop for one of their music gatherings also! We are...again!!

Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame

Temporarily Closed
Museum
Non-profit organization
Specialty Museums
Museum complex devoted to freshwater fishing, featuring antique motors, vintage rods & mounted fish.
We visited during the off season and we're the only ones there. It was very peaceful having the place to ourselves. It was pretty amazing to see so many different types of fish and how big some of the fish are! It was fun walking up the big muskie and getting some cool photos of the area. The summer gardens were already done blooming, but I imagine them being very beautiful in summer. I would definitely come back again with our kids to see.
Stephanie R — Google review
It's a unique attraction in Wisconsin. I've lived in Wisconsin for over 20 years and have known about The existence of the huge muskie building sculpture. So I was interested in seeing it even though I am not into freshwater fishing. If you are in the area or traveling through the area, it's worth the stop. It's fun to look out the mouth of the huge muskie structure and take pictures of the large fish sculptures, there is a lot to see in the museum.
Beverly K — Google review
Another World's Somethingest Something added to our list! The World's Largest Muskie is an incredible sight to behold! We finally got to go in after the fourth trip up here! I'm not sure why, but our first three attempts kept coming up unsuccessful, as it was closed each time. Once might have been covid, one time was construction, and I'm not sure what the reason was for the other (might have just been too late in the day, I don't remember for sure). The grounds here are absolutely gorgeous! They did a fantastic job on the sculptures and the landscaping. The interior has a LOT going on. There are so many boats, motors, lures, rods, pictures and mounts of record breaking fish. There's tons of history of freshwater fishing, and it does include quite a bit of saltwater fish, as well. There's a section filled to the brim with photographs people sent in over the decades of their catches. There's a decent amount of parking, a nice playground area for the kids, and so much to see (check out the 1950's era snowmobile). If you're a fishing enthusiast, or just in the area, this is well worth the price of admission. I was surprised to see there's not a seafood restaurant attached to this, though. It seems something like that would fit in perfectly here. Especially with Wisconsin being known for our love of fish frys.
Nathan F — Google review
If you have kids, this place would be worth stopping at. The kids loved going to the top of the Musky. All the fish statues are really nice and fun to take pictures with. The buildings have so much history about fishing. There is a small playground if you have younger kids.
Carrie H — Google review
I wanted to take my husband here a few years ago. He loves to fish like so many people do so i thought he would enjoy it. We took along our grandson who's 14 since he enjoys the sport as well. I did research it a little since it's a quite far away and the reviews were pretty good. It holds alot of fishing history. So much compacted into sections but nicely displayed. The ground are beautifully kept and the walking paths are wide and clear of any obstacles. I enjoyed the large staues of different types of fish along the walking paths. They have a souvenir shop, public bathrooms and plenty of resting areas. Thought they would have live fish in the giant pond surrounding the look out musky, a better view of the sign that says your here, for a tree is covering most of it and a few different hats to purchase. But over all glad we went
Tina B — Google review
An engaging experience with lots of fishing-related (duh) exhibits. There must be a hundred boat motors on display, from the very early 1900s to the '70s. Be careful, you might learn something!
Dave K — Google review
Definitely different. History of lures, trolling motors & engines was interesting. The grounds with the larger than life fish was pretty cool. If you're into this stuff, then you definitely need to stop by & visit.
Diana H — Google review
Such a great place. Me and my family loved it. So much history. Alot of neat fishing and boating things you would never see anywhere else. A must stop when visiting Hayward

Always a great place to get on the water for a fun day in the sun. Our driver to the landing was super nice and offered some suggestions on the water. He helped hook up our tubes and sent us off with a great farewell on our river adventure.
Monica L — Google review
Fun experience and we went with 4 kiddos. The service was quick and I liked that they drove us out to the start of the stream. It was 3 hours. Kinda wish they had a drop off spot that offered a shorter trip like 1.5 hours. But the tubes were clean and comfortable, the water was very clean, calm the day we went. We liked getting back and having ice cream. Great price and even better flavors for the ice cream!
Karina B — Google review
This is a great place for renting various floaty things to go down the river in. We came in around noon and picked two single-person kayaks. The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The river was peaceful and beautiful. I felt the prices were all reasonable. Even the 20oz drinks were less than $2.
Jim S — Google review
Super fun, great experience!! Highly recommend this place. They even have tubes for coolers to pack along drinks and snacks !!!
T M — Google review
It's expensive to rent a tube. 18 backless 20 with a back. A large family can spend a lot just to rent tubes. They are friendly and good service. But should have family package or group deals 🤔 to make affordable for families to do together ❤️
Kassi D — Google review
This is a quiet, peaceful river. Along the journey, a deer was by the water and stayed as we rowed by. A train came along the waterway, adding to the variations you see. The two drawbacks are a lack of places to pull off to stretch after your first few miles and the heavy paddle for rowing. Otherwise, great service and a beautiful place to kayak.
Michelle W — Google review
Great people ! Great River ! Camp store is great. Something for everyone. Can’t wait till next year.
Eric F — Google review
Went as a group of 15. 4months- 38 years old. Everyone had a great time! I highly recommend water shoes, which are available for sale in the office, and umbrella's, im not sure if they had them for sale. We were on the river for a good 5 hours so sunscreen and water are also a good idea! So many places to stop and hang out, or plenty of room to float on by.

Wilderness Walk Zoo

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Amusement center
Fun place to take small children. The walk through goes in a whole circle making it convenient for walking with children. Playground is nice to get out extra energy. Cute little gift shop to get treats and ice cream. Benches placed around the property to sit and take a break. The kids loved to go into the petting zoo and feed the fish and goats. If your in the Hayward area with small children, it would be a fun place to stop and visit. Would recommend. We went three times last summer. 😁
The F — Google review
Super fun place to see a wide variety of animals. You can feed and pet a lot of them, which I had a blast doing. I loved watching the lemurs play and a lot of the goats were obsessed with chin scratches. If you’re in need of some nature therapy, this is the place to go.
Erica — Google review
We came here on a whim after staying for a week in a town nearby. What a hidden gem this place is! With 2 young children, this place kept them entertained for hours. The animals look well taken care of, and we really appreciated the immersive set up of the whole park. Our favorite part was getting to walk through the open area where dozens of whitetail deer still enjoy their natural habitat but you can be apart of their world. There is a restaurant area as well as fun little mining area where kids can dig for gold. If they find gold, they can bring it to the attendance at the food stand for a sucker. How fun! We really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back if in the area again!
Ash — Google review
This the most depressing "zoo" I've ever seen. Bears, a tiger, and a wolf, in little more than a chainlink kennel with a concrete floor. No grass, minimal shelter, little water, zero enrichment, the poor wolf was pacing stressed out little circles in its tiny enclosure. None of the other animals had it much better, it was all so sad. This place needs to be shut down for animal abuse. Everything else is run down and literally falling apart. These animals deserve better. And the free roaming deer - there was one in the petting zoo. Outside, there was a long pen, half a football field at most, with at least 2 dozen deer. No grass, almost no shelter, just dirt and a mud puddle. But hey, the tortoise enclosure did have this giant, completely inappropriate climbing enclosure. I don't know how the owner sleeps at night, it's abysmal.
Nora C — Google review
It was a very nice place to visit. A variety of animals and old buildings to look through. Fun for young and old.
Kelly M — Google review
Was very hot, but was surprised alot of animals were out and about. Was surprised by changes from when we used to take kids till yesterday. Not bad just could use a little sprucing up.
Tina P — Google review
Great outing. We got so close to the animals and a good variety of them!

So cozy and neat gifts & places to stroll inside & outside. We loved the paint your own pottery!

Come. Visit. This stop is a MUST on your way through or to Shell Lake, WI. Just off frontage road from highway 63. (Accommodating for a variety of gluten free dairy free beverages) Coffee, Ice cream, hot drinks, cold drinks, smoothies, bakery, stickers, Shell Lake shirts, sweatshirts & more! That's just in the cafe. The decor is rustic & creative all mixed together. Lots of seating for a variety of group sizes. (Ours was a party of 7). The outdoor patio is absolutely beautiful with 100 perfect spots for pictures. (As you can see from my own attached pictures). This business also has the pottery area, lovely & providing opportunities to learn a new craft! Yard decor for sale in the patio and a wonderful venue for bands & parties in the backyard. Check them out online (which I didn't) to see if they are hosting bands or events this summer. Would be worth it to attend an event here in the backyard!
Kris J — Google review
We usually go off peak (not during the busy summer months). It was busy but not too busy. Live music in the evening. Great venue. Food, coffee and ice cream available in the cafe. We always go to paint our own pottery. Such a fun time. They glaze and fire your pottery and you pick up the finished piece at a later date. They do ship also.
Heather R — Google review
Not even sure how many times we have been by this place and never stopped. Today was the day! The staff was very friendly. They have a great selection of pottery, jewelry, wood crafts, & Glass items, and many other one of a kind things all from many different artist. They also have a area where you can do pottery and crafts. They also have a area where you can order food and sit in booths or tables to enjoy your meal. In the summer they offer an area with outside music certain days of the week with adult beverages and pizzas which we will be back for. The bathroom is very very clean. Would recommend stopping here.

Casinos & Gambling
Relaxed lodging with a casino, indoor pool & dining options, plus free Wi-Fi, breakfast & parking.
Wonderful customer service! After the other hotel in town denied my service animal ( with proper documentation) they were able to get us a room and even gave us the info to get a discount! Very clean rooms, nice pool and hot tub, and reasonably priced!
Tracy S — Google review
⭐ 1/5 This casino has gone downhill fast. They used to send monthly flyers with free play, great promotions, and a solid buffet with reasonably priced, good food. Now? The buffet’s gone, replaced by a lackluster sports book with limited betting options. They yanked all the good slot machines, jacked up the craps minimum bet, and raised food prices while the quality tanked. Daily food promos for players? Either gone or so expensive they’re pointless. Their “Ladies Night” is a scam—you play for free play and drawings, but they don’t even announce hourly winners, just lie about it. No reason to come here anymore. I used to spend a lot but won’t eat or play here again. Save your money and go elsewhere. Response to Casinos comment. I received mailers every month for the past few years, something changed on your end because I played enough to qualify and stopped receiving them. Now when you ask the front desk how to qualify they all give you different vague answers. Plus you don't do any free swipes anymore you have to play $10 to get $15, not really a promo to draw anybody in. Of course Casinos all change slots frequently but you have tightened them up so nobody wins much anymore. All the promos and food prices changed in the last few months and not for the better. You will lose a lot of loyal customers that used to come a few times a week like myself.
K — Google review
We had a lot of fun over our two days, one night at Turtle Lake Casino. Our experience and observations lead us to determine that playing the tables is the way to fatten your pockets. We played a wide variety of slots with little success, in fact nickel wins were pitiful and plentiful. You will do well on live craps and machine craps. The restaurant is a very good value. Will definitely be back.
Zena S — Google review
The casino has gone downhill this past year. Took away the $5 for food monthly. Taking things off the menu and raised prices. Use to get $10 a month to play. Imagine our surprise (and not a nice one!!) to find out we didn't spend enough money in May 2025 to get ANY MONEY for June. WTH?? Apparently if you are not a big spender, you are SOL. No newsletter delivered to us as of June 30th. Apparently going there twice in June didn't get us anything. 😡 Come on!!!! We spend the same amount we have for years, but obviously we are not worthy of being a part of Turtle Lake Casino anymore. So disappointed 😞
Luanne F — Google review
To call this a Sportsbook is not accurate. Severely limited bets so often. I had a 3 team parlay I wanted to get a $1000 limited to $256, what kind of Sportsbook limits parlay bet to $256? If seen futures limited to $28. On any busy sports day, you have to wait in line forever to place a bet while people take 30 minutes to place $5, 10 team parlay. They don’t have Sportsbook employees that know what’s going on, let alone anyone in the casino. The machines stopped working after driving to place thousands in sports wagers (Masters). I was told to talk to a bartender. The bartender told me to talk to floor man, but didn’t know where he was and said he didn’t have authority to call them. He then directed me to beverage manager who knew nothing, because we couldn’t find floor man. After going to the front (they apparently have authority) they called the floor man. Turns out he had no idea what was going on or when it’d be fixed. Maybe it’s an upgrade? He said. I walked out with $6000 in my pocket and drove MI. They don’t know what’s they are doing, won’t keep customers that want to wager real money, and they prob don’t care. My guess is same people have run this casino forever, and it’s easy to be complacent because old people and slot revenue is a very easy, unchanging business. Also, the poker room is a smoke filled hot box on 2nd floor with apparently very little ventilation. This makes $1-$2 NL the best way to take years off your life and increase chance of lung cancer by 20%-30%. Who at the casino thinks this is good for business? The casino seems to employ 10x the security of a normal casino and has several groups of security constantly circling the casino. It's very bizarre. It’s too bad. The opportunity this place has a great opportunity to serve the new demand sports betting is generating in the region, run a legit Sportsbook and pull lots of money from MN / MPLS. They either don’t know what they are doing or don’t care enough to learn customer experience / needs relating to sports betting. Seems they could do so much more with Poker room too. My conclusion is the business is clearly aimed at the old folks who like to smoke and slap 75 cent slots. Very profitable, im certain. And it doesn't require the management / ownership to do anything as it's been the same for decades.

Worst experience in a casino. Party of seven having a great time cut off from the bar suddenly for zero reason. Will never step foot in this or another affiliated property. Terrible security staff and consumer relations experiance. Update: Then I suggest not treating perfectly acceptable consumers like a criminal.

My husband and I had a disappointing experience. We both approached the bar at different times but received the same disrespect and discrimination based on the color of our skin from the same older bartender. We waited patiently for our drinks, but he intentionally skipped serving us and instead helped other customers. His actions were clear, and his behavior was unprofessional and hurtful, making us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. No customer should be subjected to such treatment. I hope the management takes this matter seriously and ensures that all guests are treated with dignity and respect. This will be the last time I visit this place.

So disappointed in St Croix casino. I am wondering if and when they got new management ,they had a senior day where you could get 15 and free play and Saturday night for the younger people would get 10 in free play now they changed it where you have to get one point. So you have to spend $10 to get 15 That is not a promotion to draw people in. We used to eat in the restaurant three times a week now they cut out all the promos for that. In the last 3 weeks anytime I stop there there's maybe six people in the restaurant there used to be a waiting line to get into eat. I'm assuming they laid off most of the workers. Not sure if they're struggling financially or if they got management that doesn't know how to run things. I hope they turn this around soon because they're losing all their patrons.

Gilligans in Chetek- bar, restaurant & lodging

Bar
Nightlife
Cocktails & American grub served in a lakeside grill with an outdoor tiki bar & live music.
Came in for dinner cause I have a friend who works here and let me tell you it was amazing. From the second we walked in the atmosphere was incredible. Our hostess sat us quickly and we had the sweetest most attentive server Brittany. She made sure we had everything we needed. The food, wow the words can't even describe how amazing it was. We got gator bites which my husband loved and the cheese curds melted in our mouth. The entrees too were cooked perfectly and so amazing. We eat quite a bit of bar food and normally I don't feel well after but this was well made and amazing. We even ate them as leftovers and sometimes left overs don't taste as well this food. Even cold and reheated AMAZING. I highly recommend coming here at least once I know we will for sure be back often!!

First time here and we enjoyed it. The night we went it was very slow. We had 3 adults and 3 kids. Waitress was was good. I got the Prime Island sandwich with the shaved prime rib and onion sails (petals) in the side ($15). I really enjoyed it. I felt my meal was worth the price, but another person at my table got the nightly special which was pasta. It was a good tasty dish, but very small portion for the cost. Overall, I would try this place again if I was in area.

A Fantastic Memorial Day Lunch at Gilligan's in Chetek! My wife, daughter, and I had a truly delightful Memorial Day lunch at Gilligan's in Chetek, WI, and we couldn't have been more impressed. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and vibrant. The fun decor immediately caught our eye, creating a lively backdrop that felt just right for a family outing. We appreciated how comfortable and welcoming it felt, allowing us to relax and enjoy the music and ambiance without feeling out of place with our daughter. We kicked off our meal with the alligator bites, which were a delicious and adventurous start to our lunch. For our main courses, my wife raved about her garlic Parmesan salmon, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. I opted for the classic lake perch, and it certainly didn't disappoint – fresh, flaky, and wonderfully prepared. Our daughter was happy with her quesadilla, a perfect kid-friendly option. Throughout our meal, our server was absolutely fantastic. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, following up regularly without being intrusive. Their excellent service definitely enhanced our dining experience, making us feel well-cared for. To cap off our delicious lunch, we indulged in the key lime pie for dessert, and it was simply divine – a perfect balance of tart and sweet, and a truly satisfying end to our meal. Overall, Gilligan's provided a memorable Memorial Day experience. The combination of delicious food, a great atmosphere, and excellent service made for a perfect family lunch. We highly recommend Gilligan's to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience in Chetek!

The front of the building is deceiving of what a great establishment this is. Go around the side to the outdoor bar. Food and drink served there too. And the dock for lake customers to pull up to enjoy the atmosphere too. Great food and drink selection. Our bartender/server, Scott, was very personable. He was a local so had plenty of local activity suggestions.

The waitress was by herself waiting on us, 4 other tables plus a group of 11. Very slow service. there was a table of 5 that ordered there drinks, they did get those but never got to order food. they up and left. Our pasta was cold and a small serving for the price. They should have had more waitresses. Don't know if we'll go back.

Very disappointed after ordering cheeseburger and fries. Mcdonalds does a better burger kind of sad.this used to be a great place to go. Buns were small and smashed.looking. the burger thin and cheese was an unmelted piece.like a Kraft single. Not at all what we expected. We expected it to be good

I have been going to Gilligan's as long as it changed to Gilligan's and before when it was The Spot. The owners have changed over the years many times. The wings are great. We come up to Chetek and go to get the wings twice since we are here 2 weeks. The issue I see is they added on for outside seating and other seating and the kitchen is the same size. This seems be the one of the issues. The service yesterday was very slow, we ordered the food and we had to ask at the front when will we get the food after one hour. Wings don't take that long especially when its wing night. The server was running from one side to the other side and outside. How can you service the customer and get the food? Other tables around us were complaining for the same reason. They were ordering other food items burgers, wraps ect. I see a lot of complaining about the service on the reviews and saw it first hand and even my experience. Again wings big tasty and waffle fries great.

We love hiking the Circle Trail. It's 4-5 miles of beautiful trails that wind through forests and along lakes. This trail can be challenging at times but it is worth the effort. This is one of our favorite places to hike.

So much to see and do! Not to mention the miles of trails.

The Ice Age Trail segment through here is lovely, and there are multiple loop trails in the rec area that make for interesting day hikes. While it's great in summer (bring the bug spray, lots of water and shady trees), try this in the dead of winter when the water is frozen over. Bring a pair of snowshoes and try the loop trails - this is some of the finest winter hiking around.

Beautiful performance theater with wonderful sound. We’ve seen two performances (Home Grown Tomatoes) and wish we lived closer to see more performances.

Last night I attended the Asleep at the Wheel performance at your glorious theater. The band was high energy and vocals/instruments were superb. I understand they will quit touring at the end of 2026. Please book them for at least one more time and I promise to buy at least 2 tickets and tell all my Texas Swing loving friends.

I want to show my appreciation for the pleasant and helpful box office personnel. My husband and I were unable to attend the performance that I had purchased tickets for and I called to ask if there was a way to transfer tickets on the day of the performance. The woman I spoke to not only answered my question but helped me with names that were on a list for tickets for the sold out performance. I was able to sell the tickets easily, and as a bonus, when I called back with the name to transfer the tickets to she let me know that the person was known to her and was trustworthy to send a check.

Oh my gosh! We have known of this place for years. But it took the Buddy Holly Dance Party Reunion to get us through the doors! What a beautiful theater. We look forward to visiting again, very soon.

Irvine Park Zoo is a 318-acre city park in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, offering a variety of attractions for visitors. The park features a petting zoo, cross-country ski trail, historical buildings such as a 1903 schoolhouse, and picnic grounds. Visitors can explore miles of hiking paths and venture through the zoo to see well-cared-for animals.
Irvine Park is fun to go to anytime of the year the animals are great the kids have a blast they have playgrounds picnic areas animals walking areas the farm. Going around Christmas time is one of my favorites the Christmas display that they put on is so cute. They have tons of lights and figures and at the end towards the animals they have stories which my kids love to stop and read..My kids have a blast doing this. If you go through for the light show there are quite a few cars that go so you may get stuck in a line but it is a decent moving line for the most part. When you go to see the lights you can walk through the parks and the lights or you can drive.

Nice park and zoo with great views. We visited in the end of April so petting zoo was closed and some animal were not visible but we still had a good time. I was impressed at how accessible everything was by wheelchair and walker and the many benches that allowed rest breaks when needed. We did not see the whole area but many kids were enjoying the playground equipment and we enjoyed watching the geese in the river.

This is a great park & zoo! We have 3 children 4 and under and are vacationing in Lake Holcombe. The drive wasn’t too long and this is a great stop perfect for an adventure when not looking for an entire day stop. Bear, hyena, cow, eagle, hawk, and other small animals. Two playgrounds, a trail, and views of the river. And it’s free but you may leave a donation if you want. So glad we stopped! Highly recommend a visit!
Cala N — Google review
If you are in the area, this is a MUST. Our expectations were beyond exceeded, and we are literally planning a trip back to see more of the property. The park itself is both massive, and absolutely GORGEOUS. As for the Zoo, what they are doing is amazing. They have delivered a top notch facility for both the animals and guests alike, and I can enjoy the space in good conscious knowing the animals are being cared for incredibly well. I would strongly recommend this place.
Jason S — Google review
The zoo is really not the highlight of this park, it's the beautiful green space, playgrounds, picnic areas, water features and attention to renewing native plants that make it great! AND it's free. I am impressed!
Faith M — Google review
Unfortunately this place is small, outdated, and sad. The animals all live on concrete floors with almost no enrichment, and there's about 6 of them to see. When we went they were repairing the lion enclosure, which had broken windows and broken wooden bridges inside for the lion. Sadly the animals do not seem happy or well kept, and the zoo owners seem to be asking for donations on every bad review rather than trying to find better homes for these creatures. Avoid at all costs!
Colin Z — Google review
Irvine Park is a beautiful place to explore. A lot of animals to see, nice nature trails with different experience levels, a petting zoo, splash pad, picnic areas and multiple playgrounds. All of the kids (ages 4,10,15) loved the dirt hiking trails by the river, waterfall and rock cliffs. The petting zoo is only opened certain days/times so definitely check if that's what you'd like to see. All of the other zoo animals are in enclosed glass, cages or in large fenced areas outside. The large animals are harder to spot in the fields but more exciting for the kids. Inside you can find frozen drinks, ice cream, snacks, hotdogs and other treats. Plus the museum with tons of really old trinkets, animal furs, even a carriage! I would highly recommend Irvine Park to anyone visiting or local looking for something fun outdoors to do with the family! We go at least once a month if not more! And the Christmas Village every year is breathtaking, definitely check it out if you haven't seen it!
Amyjo — Google review
We actually came across this while trying to find a spot for a picnic while on the road. This was a hidden gems that we enjoyed so much. Would love to come back and explore again. There was not a lot of animals when we went but it is based off donations and I wish I had a million to give away.

Located in Chippewa Falls, Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is a 145-year-old brewery that offers free tours throughout the year. Visitors can explore the brewery's history and modern operations, with options for one-hour or two-hour tours. The longer tour includes a tasting glass. Reservations are recommended, and there's also a gift shop, lodge rentals, and an event calendar to explore.
We really enjoyed our short time here. The beer was really good and it was fun to learn all the different flavors that you get when mixing different beers. We also bought some shirts (super cute, nice quality) along with some Wisc. cheese and beef sticks. Really nice staff that instantly makes you feel welcomed. They also have a nice patio to enjoy your flight of beer. The only complaint that we have is how early they close on a sat (8pm)
Jessica B — Google review
Really sad to see the brewery production stopping. Had a great time going on tour, fabulous guide. I booked the tour same day and they couldn’t squeeze my husband in, so I went alone. I was super disappointed they couldn’t let him in, seemed like one more wouldn’t have ruined anything. Really neat historical place, definitely recommend! The beer is interesting, lots of fruity choices. Samples come with the tour. Lots of merchandise, super impressive!
Angela T — Google review
I went on a well thought out tour with guide Miranda. Heard how the Leinenkugel beer is made & saw the process to make the beer. Good tasting & merchandise. I got a hat & shirt too. Fun board games, Rummikub, events such as music, trivia, dogs can come outside on certain evenings, & pinball machines.
Trevor G — Google review
A beautiful, open space. They have a section with a detailed history of the brewing company. It has a lot of seating and two bars, which speeds up service because the place can grow busy after work. Unfortunately, they don’t always have all their beers on tap, so you might check before you go if you have your heart set on one in particular.
JC C — Google review
At Leinenkugel's Tasting Brew Pub's cozy bar and retail area in Ladysmith, WI, we skipped the tour but were wowed by bartender Tracey's amazing service. We sampled their craft beer flights and all i can say is wow o wow. My favorite was the white mocha stout, a true sleeper. Was balanced with the perfect amount of sweetness. The $15-per-person, one-hour tour sounds like a no-brainer for next time. Can’t wait to stop by again next year!

Beautiful location with a great tasting room. Was disappointed to find out during the tour that they had shuttered production operations last January. Recommend they let patrons know prior to tour purchase, as the tour is still given as if it’s an active brewery.

We had been to this playground 6 years ago on a family trip to Minnesota. We took a family trip to Eau Claire this weekend for a wedding. The boys were so excited to go back to this playground. My youngest, who I was pregnant with during our first visit also had an absolute blast. Some of their favorites are the two big slides and the zip line.

This is a great park/playground for the kids when it’s warm, but completely unusable when it gets cold. The playground equipment is fantastic. There is a lot for the kids to do and tons of different things to play with. Unfortunately, if there is ever a freeze risk (and this being Wisconsin, there is a risk half of the year) the bathrooms close. In the end, it doesn’t matter how nice the playground is if the bathrooms are not usable.

The park features a lazy river, multiple water slides including a pitch-black tube slide and a slower body slide, as well as an aquatic playground with a giant bucket that splashes everyone below when full. There are also areas for water basketball, lily pad climbing, and even a toddler section with spraying fun.
This place was awesome! Super affordable to get in as well as food/drink. They had a ton of floaties and we never had to wait to get one for the slides or lazy river - even on a super packed Saturday. Hot tub was great for the adults but a little too hot for the kids. Slides were a little slow/tame for my 12 year old. Overall we spent over 6 hours at this place and the kids were in bed early. it was definitely worth the stop.

Had a fun Friday night. We had the place to ourselves for about 30 minutes as we went in at 4pm opening. Didn't really see people arriving until closer to 5. Didn't get very busy during our visit. I'm sure other days are different. Worth a visit regardless of age but younger kids will probably enjoy it the most. Slides are fun for older kids and the lazy river is good for everyone else.

I really enjoyed this waterpark! It is located inside the Metropolis Hotel in Eau Claire. It's a great waterpark to go to throughout the year since it's located inside. It is perfect for young kids and has several different areas for different ages. It has a smaller play area for the younger kids, a lazy river, a bigger/slightly deeper area for the older kids with a basketball hoop and 2 slides for the bigger kids/adults. It also has tables and chairs everywhere so there's always a place to sit and set your stuff down. There is also a place called Monkey in the Middle Express (pizza) that's located inside the waterpark area so you don't have to leave to get food or drinks if you don't want to. Very pleased with our stay and can't wait to go back and enjoy this waterpark again with our kids!!

Such a fun place, we didn't have our kids with on this stop but it would be such a great place to stop and let your kids explore. From the massive bubble trampoline, to the pedal go carts, soccer nets and you can watch them milk the cows, make delicious cheese and much more. When you walk in they have a cute little gift shop area, with wine, cheese and other goodies. If you keep walking they have cheese samples and a cafe/ restaurant. I bought a latte and a sandwich and it was seriously so good that I already want to go back. Definitely a must stop here!

Stopped as a road side stop on a road trip to see the giant cow. There is a very clean and nice tractor playground and a bounce pad that looks like cheese. We got to go in and see the milking of the cows. And we got to ride little bikes around a track! That was super fun for the kids and myself! Great stop with food, small souvenir things, and even restrooms. Kids get the energy out, parents enjoy a moment.

This was Awesome! We didn't exactly eat here but we did get lots of cheeses and based off the ones we got to try they are all Fabulous! We missed the tour they do 2 a day at 9am & 1pm, cost is $10 a person. However we did get to walk around and see the cows being milked and visit with the calves. It's a very well run and taken care of dairy farm and cheese factory. Don't miss it!

Delicious fresh Gouda cheese can be purchased here. The also have a nice selection of Homemade chocolates, sausages, hot stix, pizzas, and many other snack items to enjoy. This was an interesting stop, we bought a bunch of cheeses to take home, all of which we have enjoyed so far! Our food was good in the cafe, but nothing mind blowing. While I would definitely buy packaged cheese there again, I don't feel like I need to eat at the cafe again specifically. It was fun to watch the cows get milked and see the racks of cheese wheels.

Was recommended to me by a co-worker and although it is during the winter it still didn’t disappoint. I definitely look forward to the warmer months to be able to take a full tour. What a beautiful place. I would recommend anybody to go there. It is well-thought-out. Well, wait out and as a veteran, I could not believe how phenomenal the people are there. They are down-to-earth and they did one hell of a job. Putting that place together.I'm gonna go back and I will be buying one of those stones with the names on it and my name will be on 1 God bless those people I would recommend this so highly , I can't speak enough.About them Everything. Is free except the gift shop but they have a museum. There very well kept up. My Lord is just gorgeous. I can't say enough. God bless. Everybody goes there and God bless the United States, are we state? And god bless the veterans who protect our rights and freedoms

This is the best veteran's memorial location I have ever visited! Hands-down! So well done. If you have veteran friends or family....take them there (if they want to go). This place is beautiful and touching and historically educational. The thought and attention that has gone into this vision is incredible. I will go back. I want to take my Mom there. My dad and two of my uncles were WWII veterans and Mom and I will go and "think of them."

Very nice, place to see and take in what has happened with our country over many yrs. It was nice to see that this place talked about what this country and its armed forces has gone threw to keep us FREE. I hope this place stays like it its because, this the only way our grandchildren and there children will be able to see what has taken place to be have FREEDOM . My wife and stopped at each monument and read the place and time of what happened. Was also surprised there was not more people here, was only one other couple. This place needs to be visited. I drove 4 hours to spend time on the grounds of a Memorial dedicated to our military forces. Upon arrival, the park was inundated with thousands of people attending an arts festival. Wow. An entry fee of $65. Greatly disappointed that this hallowed ground is being used to for this. I won't be returning

This is a very nice memorial park. From the first Independence War to the Perisan war there is a memorial for all of them. It was a very emotional and proud place to be. If you are in Acadia WI you have to see this.

A bit out of the way but absolutely worth the drive out there! The wines are fantastic! I’m partial to any of their fruity ones, so many to choose from! And then there’s the view! Gorgeous in the summertime even better in the fall!

I would recommend this. Gravel road to approach but they were extremely kind and offered great advice. I also loved their pretzel buns! Would recommend this place. My favorite wine was the raspberry peach sangria.

Wines are great. All of the country wines are apple based. For me personally they give me a little heartburn but that's personal. Love the staff. Love the service. Love the views. You can come with your own snacks and water if you'd like. Wines are reasonable from a price perspective.

Don't listen to the negative reviews as we just spent last night here and everything about it was great. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was really good, the slots actually did pay out and the live band up behind the bar was very good and an added bonus. The hotel room was very nice and quiet and the bathroom was very large and nicely renovated. I will say the bed was on the soft side which I was fine with but my husband would have liked it more firm. That's really the only negative thing I would say about our stay. We will definitely be back!
Sandy S — Google review
Went to bingo on Saturday evening and again Sunday am. Jason the supervisor and Tyler were awesome. You are lucky to have them on your staff. Very hard working people. Extremely friendly and helpful. We went to the casino and played slots. It was fun as well the staff were friendly as well. All of the bathrooms we used were extremely clean and smelled nice. We were very happy with our trip there and will be back. Thanks.

- House keeping doesn't turn off alarms - no blackjack tables after midnight - no fruit or veggies at the buffet - pre-paying for late check-out is completely uncoordinated. We had house keeping not only knock on our do not disturb door but immediately open our door after knocking, again after prepaying for the service, with a sleeping toddler in the room Incredibly unapologetic and horrible hotel service. I would recommend staying elsewhere.
Joey R — Google review
Hotel room was fine few spots needed some TLC like the air vent, filled with dust. Maybe there’s something going on behind the scenes but the employees were very edgy and rude. Not just one from checkin to checkout. Was a quick few hour stop over, worked out but wouldn’t stay again. The Comfort Inn down the road is much better with accommodating staff.
JAY P — Google review
The hotel for cleanliness and quiet is 5 stars, front desk angel Sarah gets 5 stars, smoke free casino gets 10! Not having food options after 7pm gets 1 star. It’s a place where people sleep over, people aren’t eating at 6. So that part was unfortunate, but the rest of the hotel and casino were great.
Jen M — Google review
The hotel is very nice-clean, quiet, safe. I would have liked a breakfast option and the bathroom lighting is a little dim, but generally can’t complain!

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) in Winona is a nonprofit art museum that delves into the historical and ongoing human connection with water through impactful visual arts experiences. Initially focused on traditional marine paintings and folk artworks, the collection has grown to include pieces from renowned American and European masters like Turner, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, O'Keeffe, and Cassatt. The museum offers special programs for both adults and children.
This museum is a gem! Beautiful location and facilities. Unique galleries with a variety of art - some local and indigenous artists. Photos and paintings. All art has something to do with water or proximity to water. Worth the trip to Winona.
Joan C — Google review
We didn't visit with kids but I LOVED that they were aware of guests visiting with kids and had bingo sheets to be interactive. They had 3 different difficulties even. I thought as an adult I would find everything in it and I didn't. There is also a spot to stop and recharge.
Brianna B — Google review
Affordable, small, but beautiful and not stuffy art museum. We spent around 1 1/2 hrs here. Mostly kid friendly too, including a little sitting room for kids. We walked through everything and they had some super unique pieces including the panorama which was absolutely huge, never seen anything like it. They also had a giant realistic oil on loan which was pretty cool. I was hoping for more older art as they had 3 modern galleries out of 5, but it was still good. Pretty location with some outside tables next to the water. They just opened a small cafe which we heard good things about.
Emily A — Google review
A wonderful visit and experience with a thematic, yet eclectic blend or artists, history and pieces. Pleasant staff, layout of the space promoted engagement and the pieces were engaging (particularly the exhibition on loan). The museum was a highlight of my first visit to Winona (and Minnesota).
Kevin K — Google review
I just had the best time at here this past weekend for Seasonal Summer Saturday with $1 admission, which was a great deal and a perfect excuse to go. I'd heard good things, but I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the collection in lil ole Winona. The art is all fantastic, of course, but what really intrigued me was the diversity of what they had. They've got everything from incredibly detailed paintings of ships to beautiful landscapes and even some more modern pieces. It’s not just a bunch of old boats on canvas; they have a really well-rounded collection that all connects to the theme of water in some way. I was especially fond of the impressionist pieces. The setting right on the Mississippi River is just perfect, too. You can feel the connection to the art when you look out the window and see the real thing. The museum itself is a beautiful building, bright and airy, and not so huge that you feel overwhelmed. The staff were all super friendly and helpful as well. It's such a hidden gem and a fantastic way to spend a few hours. I'm so glad I went, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for their other events and exhibits. Even at the regular admission price, it's more than worth it.

Explore the rich history of the Watkins family and their legacy at the Watkins Museum in Winona. The museum showcases a diverse collection of art, artifacts, and photographs that document the family's life from the 1800s to the present day. Learn about J.R. Watkins' natural wellness brand and its iconic pain-relieving liniment that has become a part of American culture since 1868.
I love stopping into the Watkins museum and shop! For whatever reason, I cannot get their hamburger seasoning blend in my local hometown, so I usually buy a couple jars when I visit Winona. So excited to see they have a large jar of this spice! The museum is always good for a browse; love the local history!
Ellen N — Google review
Very interesting history of the Watkins brand and how they built their products in Winona. Celebrating 150 years in one location is impressive for a start, along with the medical treatment of old and now primarily into spices and a speciality bourbon. The administrative building is now on the historical register of deeds, so the history will be around for many more years. Would be interesting to have a factory tour to see all the processes. Mary was our museum attendant and was super friendly and fun to visit with. We actually went back a second day to buy more spices and the naturally made sprinkles for ice cream. The sprinkles don’t have that waxy fake flavor. Will be trying the smoked maple rub this weekend in my smoker.
Chadwick — Google review
This was a neat little place. My brother drug me here on an overnight trip to Winona. The shop is small, but adequate to find some J.R. Watkins spices. Wish they had some of the soaps and such available, but that's ok. Seeing the history of J.R. Watkins, and the products they use to sell, was very interesting. The floor is really neat. I won't ruin it, but check it out. You won't be disappointed. Worth the stop.
J.R. W — Google review
Very interesting. If you have ever use Watkins products and like them you'll probably enjoy this. You can take as much time as you want, short or long. Things are easy to view and study or glance at and move on. The most interesting thing for us was the variety of things we never knew they offered over the company's existence. Also, their timeliness wall was fun to look at and see the progression of how the company came to be what it is. The down side of our vist: not wheelchair accessible. Not did they have public bathrooms for visitors. The option for a toilet was a portable toilet outside. No air-conditioning either. 🤬
Tom&Robin L — Google review
For those interested in Watkins products, this free museum provides an in-depth look at the evolution of the company from its founding to where they are today. Probably wouldn't hold kids' attention, but I enjoyed my time there.
Jeff B — Google review
Fun to tour the museum, but shop for products!!! Love their spices and seasonings and mixes!
Laura J — Google review
Small but interesting museum of the Watkins factory and family. The location still produces spices and food mixes on site and are available for purchase in the gift shop. It will probably only take you about 45 minutes to get through the museum and gift shop,so don't plan your day around visiting here. The Gal working at the museum was very pleasant which added to our visit.
Eric S — Google review
J. R. Watkins pain releivers are as tightly woven into the fabric of America as our national banner. Starting in 1868 Watkins began brewing an all natural linament and sold them with a unique money back guarantee. The museum cronicles those humble horse and buggy beginnings and tells the story of the hard working men who made first medicines and then added to the product line with spices and flavorings. The museum not only showcases Watkins growth into a line of products sold internationally, it also offers many of the products for sale.

Great River Bluffs State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park seated on high river bluffs among forests & fields, offering trails, camping & expansive views.
Beautiful park. We took the trail north to the bluffs and it was unbelievable you could see for miles into the marsh area in the river, wild grasses and flowered covering the hill. We stayed at the cart in spot 3 and it along with the other ones looked nice. There is a vault toilet at the parking area.
Ev M — Google review
This park is a must-stop when traveling thru “Bluff Country ” of SE MN. Located on top of river bluffs, it offers multiple breathtaking views of the surrounding area on both the bluff and river sides. For the grand tour, start at the southern end in the campground and head to Orchard Overlook, then proceed north to the East Overlook and continue on to the South and North Overlook and finally, work your way up to King’s Bluff, past rare bluff-top prairie (please stay on trail to protect this fragile area) to take in spectacular views of Queens Bluff and the Mississippi River beyond. The campground is decently sized offering well-spaced campsites with decent privacy. There are new tent pads on several sites, but note that most sites have some slope to them being on the bluffs and most larger trailers will not fit ( check each site during reservation for Max length). Also there are no elec sites here so plan accordingly and bring your solar power generators. Cell service is ok in campground, better near park office. Facilities are older but in good shape and there are several vault toilets all throughout the park (picnic area, park office, cart in, etc). In summer after heavy or prolonged rain, mosquitoes can be terrible, the heavy tree cover can hinder helping breezes to keep them at bay so bring shelters and sprays. The picnic area is quite nice and large. The are several nice spots tucked into the forest so explore to find just the right one for lunch!
Todd M — Google review
Expect a dirt/gravel road. The Ranger Station can be easy to miss. It is not the Welcome Center. This time of year (mid Sept) it is hot and muggy. You will be in need of Deet. I am enjoying my stay. I have a nice campsite and the park is pleasantly quiet. I enjoyed the short hike to 2 overlooks and plan to do Kings Bluff Trail tomorrow.
Flo M — Google review
This is a great park! What it lacks for in trails it makes up in overlooks. Make sure check out the other overlooks and not just King's Bluff. They all have something special to offer. We stayed at the cart in sites. They were all nice but unfortunately very close to the trail. The trail was not used much though other then those who were camping here. Note: carts aren't provided. They provided wheel barrows.
Jeff B — Google review
Great River Bluffs is a good overall Minnesota state park. Definitely not one of the best state parks I've been to in the state, but far from the worst state parks. The hiking trails along the bluffs are a great hike and have some good views of the Mississippi River Valley below. None of the trails I hiked were difficult at all. The couple outlooks from the main parking lot offer good views and are easily accessible. They have good camping sites and well maintained facilities. The park isn't huge, and besides the outlooks overlooking the river, not much else is too noteworthy.

Big State Park. Beautiful lookout King trail, 2.5 mile round trip, Easy walk.
Vanna Q — Google review
An extremely beautiful park! It's all located basically on one bluff which is pretty unique from what I've seen. There's not a lot of trails but that doesn't mean it's not worth the time to explore every square inch of this park. Every trail pretty much brings you to an overlook of the area and it's worth seeing every one. The campsite we were at was a little small but we managed. They have restrooms at the center of the campground area and they were clean and very nice on the inside. There were no rangers when we first pulled in so we had to fill out a card to register. That being said I had a ton of fun and would love to come back again someday!

If you’re road-tripping through Wisconsin and love a good quirky roadside stop, Ben Bikin’ in Sparta is one you’ll want to reroute for—just like I did. 🏍️ I literally planned my route just to drive by and snap a pic—and it was 100% worth it. Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled just a short 15-minute drive from the historic downtown of La Crosse, the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a stunning modern neoclassical church that beckons visitors with its serene beauty and rich spiritual significance. Built between 2005 and 2008 to honor the miraculous apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mexico City in 1531, this sacred site spans an impressive 100 acres adorned with meticulously designed gardens and devotional areas.
We were blessed to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe on a beautiful sunny, summer day. There is a gift shop, restaurant, washrooms and a welcome center closest to the parking lot. They offered us water and snacks. It was so wonderful to meet Enid who was volunteering. The views of the landscape and gardens were quite lovely. Be prepared to walk! High heels are not recommended. There are carts available for those who do need a ride. They have a map in Spanish and English with the different paths to the main church, rosary walk, votive chapel, stations of the cross, memorial to the unborn, as well as several statues of saints. Most adorable Savior, in Thy wondrous love for us Thou dost remain in the blessed Sacrament of the Altar. O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine! Virgin most holy, by thy holy and immaculate heart, make us enter into the adorable Heart of thy divine Son, Jesus Christ. O sweet St. Joseph obtain for us the gift of prayer and of perpetual union with Jesus and Mary. Amen Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Beautiful grounds and a break from the city bustle. I visited during a beautiful week here in Wisconsin, and the grounds were meticulous maintained. Super friendly staff that would take you up to the Shrine via a golf cart if needed. It is about a half-mile walk up a paved trail that passes through some beautiful sculptures. The Shrine is in perfect condition and there is a new construction project going on to expand services. Really worth the trip for anyone, not just Catholics. Plenty of free parking and handicapped services are available.

A place of beauty, peace and deep spirituality. I visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe while in La Crosse, and it was truly wonderful. The whole site is incredibly peaceful, set in the middle of nature with several walking paths, gardens, and quiet areas for reflection. The walk up to the church is scenic and thoughtfully designed, with stops along the way like the Stations of the Cross and other devotional areas. It feels like a retreat from the world, very calm and serene. The church itself is stunning—beautiful classical architecture, very clean and well-maintained, with a reverent atmosphere even when it’s quiet. You can tell a lot of love and care went into the design and upkeep. There’s also a small café and a gift shop, both really nice and welcoming. Staff were kind and helpful. Even if you’re not religious or just curious, this place is absolutely worth a visit for the natural beauty, art, and peaceful atmosphere. Wear comfy shoes as there’s some walking involved. But there’s also a shuttle if needed!

The place was incredibly welcoming and pleasant. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the statues and shrine. We managed to attend the 11 am mass in Spanish, which was convenient since we had our young son and needed to return to the office promptly. The weather was perfect for this time of year, neither too hot nor too cold.

We koved it. Drove 2 hours to witness it. It was beautiful inside and out. The gifts shop was a tad bit pricy. But the trip was worth it for us. As it was Hispanic heritage month they were having mass in Spanish. There were a lot of people, including busloads. There were two or three buses of people who came together. We're definitely going back, just not every weekend sort of thing.

An incredible place. We had limited time but I look forward to coming again. It very hilly and they don't have a great way to see all the Shrine. They will give a ride to the main church. I walked back so the other people I was with could see some more of the Shrine. It was the perfect place to go before the hospital.

Beautiful wooded setting. A bit of an uphill climb from the visitors center to the shrine. But worth it. If you have mobility problems, they do have golf carts to drive you to the top.

Beautiful grounds and chapels for quiet reflection. They also offer golf cart rides to the main shrine church from the visitors center; the chapel in the picture is an easy short walk up a paved path. Please note they do close at 5pm!
