Incredible bike trails, wow! I'm so impressed with the place. Thanks for having some pedal up options, and the new blue climb trail (name TBD) and beam me up Scotty blue flow trail down (rides more like a light blue/dark green especially in comparison to everything in the actual bike park rating scale) are amazing! Kuddos to the trail builders and the business, keep it up 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Our kids were 5 and 3 when we visited last fall. We didn't know for sure what to expect so only bought the minimum to try out the coaster. Our kids LOVED it so much I wish I had planned some extra time here. When we go back in the future the all day pass will be so worth it!
Briana L — Google review
The Coaster ride was super fun and a little scary during the quick turns. The line was crazy long with about 40 people in front of us. It took about a minute per person for the line to move...guessing. the scenery was amazing during the ride. It was fairly easy to get on and off the ride. Im a bigger person. My husband is very tall and he fit fine. It was easy to control the carts.
A E — Google review
Not worth the money. Paid for the unlimited ride package (4x $50) and didn’t get to ride more than once on each ride. Lines are ridiculous! Over 1 hour per ride. Waited less time for a Disney ride. If they can’t handle the business they should limit the amount of people can visit each day! Money and time wasted!
Ramze R — Google review
Spirit Mountain is irresponsible for overselling adventure passes and single tickets for Friday October 17th. Wait time for the Alpine Coaster 2.5 hrs and the zip line 1.5 hour plus. Terrible customer experience and will not visit again during this time of year. Spent $200 for nothing. Save your money and time. Ridiculous.
Matthew D — Google review
went just to wait in line for an hour, then the ride closes for an emergency, then told to wait in the 2 hour alpine coaster ride before close, then wait another 45 minutes in line to get a refund. I feel for the employees, but going just to wait in line for 2 hours and get nothing out of it sucks. wouldn’t recommend going on a saturday, or getting tickets in advance.
Kelsey M — Google review
If you buy tickets online it's cheaper. 10 for $100. We also got free mini golf. We did the alpine coasters over and over. I am plus size and I fit in just fine with no safety issues. I was also able to do the zip line
Amanda K — Google review
Waited in line for the coaster for 3 hours and then when we got to the front they closed the ride due to a malfunction that lead to a medical emergency. Then they wanted us to wait in the refund line. I would not recommend coming unless you want to waste your time.

Museums
Nestled in the vibrant city of Duluth, the Lake Superior Railroad Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone fascinated by the rich history of railroading in the region. Housed within the beautifully restored Duluth Union Depot, this museum showcases an impressive array of historic railcars and equipment that tell captivating stories from yesteryear. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits that engage all ages while learning about the significance of trains to Lake Superior's development.
I think you could spend an entire day running around the first model train set, let alone the rest of the museum. Cool place, especially to spend a suboptimal weather day with children. Highly recommend.
Matt W — Google review
I went there 4 years ago and it was a good railroad museum and it had a lot of history to it and it was very interesting. They had a lot of different kinds of trains that they had from engine to passenger cars and it was very informative.
KE A — Google review
We really enjoyed this museum. Absolutely worth the stop. Once you enter the front look at displays on main level3, then down the stairs to 2nd level, then you go down another set of stairs to the base floor and the museum. Lots to look at and some are interactive showing the wheels moving and horns. You can walk though over half of them which is rare in most museums. Worth going!
Murphys O — Google review
This was a wonderful experience. Friendly people, the lady at the entrance to the museum has so much knowledge about the museum. So much to see and do. Getting to go inside all the different train cars and all the history. The train ride is worth every dollar. Splurge on the dome car, it was great with such friendly people.
Lisa P — Google review
Loved the experience. Interesting exhibits, ability to board multiple cars and explore. Spent about an hour and a half and saw most of if not all exhibits.
Ann K — Google review
It was a really cool place to visit. We got to see lots of different trains and explore the inside of many train cars. There were some things under construction but still pretty cool. We would go back. Next time, we plan on doing a train ride to see Duluth in a different way.

It was awesome! Lots of older trains and educational spots on the trains they have.

Great time on the train and at the museum! My wife loves trains and really enjoyed this experience. We got to chat with the conductor, who was kind, informative, and easy to speak to. The other staff on the train and at the museum were great too. It was easy to walk around on the train and see the fall colours/landscapes/lake. Definitely recommend
Charlie — Google review
My husband and I did the Two Harbors Turnabout ride this week. It’s a relaxing and informative time. You get about 2 hours in Two Harbors for lunch and walking around. It’s plenty of time. My rating is mostly based in the disappointing views from the train. The pictures and descriptions led me to believe the views of the lake would be better. You pretty much see the lake in Duluth and then in Two Harbors. There are brief glimpses in other places but you mostly see trees.
Julie G — Google review
This was our 2nd year going on the "Pumpkin Ride". It was so awesome. It was a beauitful day, fantastic service! Everyone was over the top helpful! We will be making this an annual event. The museum events were amazing, my grand kids absolutely love this annual trip. We highly recommend it.
Kelly N — Google review
I really enjoyed this train ride. Everyone was super nice. The views were so beautiful. It was very informative and super relaxing..It was pretty full of people the day we went. We had never been on this train before. I told my friends they gotta come and check it out. Its totally worth it. It was nice sitting on one side of the train one way and trading with a couple so they could see the side we were on which had the water views and we got to see the land views with the trees and houses for the way back. The trip to duluth from the twin cities was incredibly beautiful and cinematic with all the fall colors in full swing. It was the best day trip! We went on Oct. 18th. I includes a few videos of the sunset and the fall colors as well as a lake near duluth.
A E — Google review
Pumpkin Train was fun and the kids loved moving about the train and the views from dome car were amazing. The tickets said snacks and drinks included but we only received one drink and no snacks (we had to buy them). I was disappointed in that only. Also, note that you stop at a yard with pumpkins set out - you don't actually stop at a pumpkin patch. All in all fun but would suggest NSSR to fix their wording or elaborate on services provided for dome car. I felt like $55/seat was a little expensive for a can of pop or alcohol beverage, 1 pumpkin and the short ride.
Alicia K — Google review
Took the 16mile Northwoods Train Ride- appx 2.5 hrs. Very enjoyable! The weather was fantastic for Oct 26th 2025 a Sunday. Train staff were friendly. Soda, Beer, candy and chips available for purchase with our general ride ticket.

This is a Minnesota Bucket List event. I went on the Pizza Ride and haven’t had this much fun in along time. This ride is very kid friendly. I stood in the train car that had the bar and open doors on it. The scenic part isn’t as good as the train ride itself, but there was some good stuff there. Spoiled with a nice warm cookie near the end of the ride tops off this little pizza ride gem, I highly recommend this. Enjoy…

Awesome train ride. Bring snacks for train ride if you have littles. Get there early before ridr starts. Awesome gift shop before you get on the train. Love the view of the water.

It stands out as the only aquarium in the U.S. focusing on freshwater exhibits. Visitors can explore interactive displays and recreated habitats showcasing aquatic life from around the world. One of its highlights is the Unsalted Seas exhibit, featuring animals from large lakes globally.
This aquarium is exceptionally clean!! It's a cute little aquarium! There are not that many displays, but the place is really big so lots of room! Perfect for little kids as its not overwhelming! It cost $20 per adult. Plus $10 parking, which was a little disappointing to have to pay for parking. Plenty of spaces to park.
Susan C — Google review
It's a decent amount of different fish, octopus, stingray, starfish and a real cute tree with natural wood staircase on the inside leading to a slide on the out for kids upstairs and downstairs has lake superior, Michigan so on, shaped Interactive play pools my 3 year old had a blast at. Clean learning walls and such here and there. Would be cool if there were more salt water exotic attractions but amazing for the kids for sure.
Hailey G — Google review
Always a great experience with ample ever changing exhibits! Excellent place for kids to learn and burn off energy. My son LOVES the otters so we always come during the otter show. We wish they were out more. Consider providing an opportunity to touch their paws. It would really add to the experience and may help with enrichment given how social they are. The snapping turtle and the octopus really shined this trip seemingly interacting with us through the glass. It was really neat to see!
Emilee O — Google review
What I loved about this place was the signs telling the stories of the animals who are lifelong residents. I haven’t seen that in other places and I really appreciated it. It’s a pretty small aquarium and I think the price is high, plus the price of parking is absurd. The front desk staff were not overly friendly. I’m glad I was able to check it out on a crummy weather day during my vacation but I probably wouldn’t go back.
Steph W — Google review
I love aquariums and when I googled things to do in Duluth, the Great Lakes Aquarium popped up. Did not know one existed, so I had to check it out. It was a creative and interesting place to visit. It gave some great history and science info on the lakes and Minnesota. It had some cool Sturgeon that you could pet. Had other fish native to the great lakes as well. Loved that it had a Bald Eagle. It did include an ocean section with some unique fish and coral reefs. This area include an octopus and some sea dragons. Very cool. Some great views of the harbor and the aerial bridge. The only reason I did not give it 4 stars was because of the steep parking price. Not sure why they charge so much for parking. The gift shop is a must stop. Some of the proceeds go to the parks of Minnesota...bonus! Side note...You can come back the same day with the same admission.
TMK — Google review
Visited on a Friday afternoon. We walked from downtown wasn't my favorite with kids so I do recommend just driving and parking there no matter how close you are. There was a lot of interactive things for young kids! We had a great time and will be back. We spent so much time we ended up missing the whole Ocean area. Plan for a good 3 hours, this place blew our expectations out of the water!
Jon R — Google review
This aquarium provided such a great experience! The variety of fish and wildlife was incredible! It was like visiting an aquarium and zoo combination. There is a touch pond stocked with Sturgeon (which are so gorgeous) and also a jellyfish touch area that were both open. The interactive learning stations geared for kiddos are awesome. The habitat for each beautiful creature looked cleaned and lovingly tended to. This was such a great aquarium to visit and enjoy! I cannot wait to return on our next family visit. I would recommend a visit to anyone! 5 Stars indeed!
Alexis P — Google review
What a magnificent place. It took me about an hour to walk thru. I would've taken longer but ot was a bit busy. Definitely recommend a visit. Paying for parking was weird. It seems like its on the honor system , so be honorable!

Specialty Museums
The William A Irvin Museum in Duluth, Minnesota, is a maritime marvel that offers seasonal guided tours of the flagship iron ore and coal freight vessel launched in 1937. Docked between Canal Park and the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, visitors can explore the decks and indoor spaces of this historic ship.
It's a self-guided tour, but there's very knowledgeable people along the way to give talks and answer questions. It was about $50 for a family of 4. It takes as long as you want. You could quickly walk through and see everything in 20 minutes. We took a couple of hours. Pics are of the crew / distinguished guest accommodations. FYI, it can get hot inside the ship.
N G — Google review
Cool place to visit if you care about ships already. The tour was self guided, which isn't bad per se, but info scattered throughout the ship was very limited. I think either a spoken tour throughout or at least more educational signs would greatly improve the experience. At least the ship was clean and you can get some good pictures on it. Paths and directions are very clear and easy to follow.
Dayton J — Google review
If you drive as far as we did to get to Duluth you need to visit here, it's worth the cost of admission. 88 years old, the Irvin is solid old fashioned American industrial tech. (of all things I was super impressed by the vice in the workshop. Oh if only I could get one for my workbench!) Helpful staff are stationed at various points to answer any questions. Superlative view of Duluth from the Pilothouse. Gift shop has clean bathrooms. (They were setting up their annual Halloween Haunted House in one of the holds while we were there.) As usual, visit during the week when the weather isn't the best. No crowds whatsoever. I recommend.
Castercamber — Google review
Very cool! If you are at all interested in ships/history/industry/engineering, this is a great stop. The tour guides are fabulous - you can tell they really love what they do. The ship itself is really neat, from the engine room all the way up to the fancy guest quarters. I would definitely recommend setting aside a couple of hours. Great piece of history!
Calla J — Google review
What a great experience. The staff was enjoyable and extremely knowledgeable. The ship was in great condition. Special shout out to Cedric, who was kind enough to share stories from his years sailing the Great Lakes. And especially for sharing the stories of his dad's final words with the "Fitz" Captain on its final night.
K L — Google review
Ive built a cardboard model of the edmund fitzgeralds engine room for videos on my youtube channel called jason the adventure man.
Jason R — Google review
Great lakes freighter that you can walk around pretty much everywhere on your own. Docents spread around the ship to explain various parts of the freighter.
Bruce W — Google review
This was a very neat tour. It is sort of set up in stations with a staff member at each station to answer questions and give you a short spiel about some of the important aspects of the ship, including the engine room, the mess quarters, the guest, quarters, and the pilot house. The ship is very large, but it is not very friendly for folks who have difficulty getting around because the stairs are narrow and steep, and there are lots of them. Moreover, I wouldn’t take small kids onto the ship without carrying them because many of the things on the ship are still in working order and there is absolutely no padding on all the metal exposed. Overall, I highly recommend you take the tour Dash for 20 bucks. It is a couple hours of well spent, fascinating time! Five stars.

Sights & Landmarks
The Aerial Lift Bridge is a historic landmark in Duluth, spanning the Duluth Ship Canal and providing stunning views of the bustling harbor and Lake Superior. Originally constructed in 1905 as a transporter bridge, it was later converted to a lift bridge and has become one of the busiest bridges in the United States. The bridge's deck can be raised 135 feet to accommodate large ships passing through.
We were in Duluth for the day and decided to check out the Aerial Lift Bridge. We've seen the Aerial Lift Bridge on some YouTube videos but this was our first time seeing it in person. We got to watch it raise and lower a couple of times, very cool. Also got to snag a Geocache while we were on the bridge.
Jerry F — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Aerial Lift Bridge is such an unforgettable icon of Duluth. Watching it gracefully rise to let ships through while boat horns echo across the water—thrilling! The canal surroundings are full of energy, from tourists snapping photos to fishermen casting lines. It’s a landmark that’s equally dramatic, historic, and deeply tied to the character of the North Shore. Great place to tour with the Vista Fleet Scenic Tour
Peter H — Google review
Such a great icon in the city of the Duluth which is the Minnesota seaway. Fun to drive or walk over. Neat to see the road lift to allow boats and barges pass through. Next to Canal Park which is full of shops and restaurants. Fun place to discover.
Lisa C — Google review
It was amazing to both see and drive this bridge. It has beautiful architecture, and it was great to see it raise and lower
Waupaca R — Google review
Just a very cool place to go and watch the ships (usually ore ships) come in. There's a museum and small gift shop. Not far to several restaurants and ice cream and shopping.
Sherri D — Google review
Fun watching the ships and boats come and go. Fun to watch the bridge lift and be lowered to allow the ships and boats to pass through. Lots to see and great place for a walk.
Heather S — Google review
An interesting city with a unique bridge. We were hoping to see a big ship, but did get to see it go up for a smaller vessel. A great downtown area to visit.
C J — Google review
This 1930's Army Corps of Engineers built bridge is a wonderful machine at over 90 years old. Watching those 500 tonight counterweights balance out the 1,000 ton span is cool to watch. It looks quite similar to the Cape Cod Canal bridge.

Beautiful museum. It was well worth the trip. A Great Lakes experience. Laid out in great detail and well maintained. It was an absolute pleasure and to cap it off a ship was entering the harbor so it allowed for the bridge to rise and the ship to pass. Children waved to the crew onboard and the crew responded equally. A beautiful day with amazing weather. A must see. Plan your trip around one of the ships entering and you will love it

In all fairness I was more entranced by the view of the sailboats on the water... in the rainstorm. Perfect views through huge windows ... and the gift shop cashier was so helpful and warm. Definitely recommend!

I've been to Canal Park many times over the years and finally made a specific point to stop here. So much fascinating information and history. We will certainly return with our kids!
Tim D — Google review
Very informative museum. Downstairs has a movie room that shows clips on the sinking of Edmond Fitzgerald and a gift shop. Upstairs goes through the history of the lakes and all the different industries that use them. It was fascinating to see the 3d model of the lakes showing how deep they are.
Teresa P — Google review
First of all it is free! But I would have gladly paid a fee for this museum though. Great history of the area and of the legendary SS Edmund Fitzgerald. Some neat videos to watch in there as well. It is right next to the canal and the unique Aerial Lift Bridge, so it includes a history on that as well as some cool schematics of that engineering feat. Lots of great models of boats and ships and even actual engines of a ship. For fun you can even act like a captain of a ship at the helm. Beautiful photography as well. Before you leave and check out the canal with its 2 lighthouses as well as the aerial bridge, you have to stop by the gift shop. Prices are not outrageous and the lady that works there is one of the nicest people I have met. She even showed me the map that she puts pins in to note where people have come from to visit...as far as Africa and New Zealand! A unique experience.
TMK — Google review
I'm not associated with this place. I am visiting the area and wanted to check this place out. It's a great museum of typical ships, and the film on the Edmund Fitzgerald was a must watch.

Great little musuem, and the best part is that it's free! We got lucky enough to visit at a time that their biggest ship was docking and we got to see the aerial bridge rising! The lighthouse was also a plus

Down-home haunt with a laid-back ambiance offering big burgers, sandwiches & brews.
I was here a few years ago, and again just recently. I really enjoy that they've kept the fun writing and naming of the menu items. I wish more restaurants would play with themes. Our service was a bit delayed, but I think it's easily forgiven since we were there during an "off" time. Personally I felt it was worth the extra wait, but others may not be as patient.
NeekoSpoon — Google review
I've enjoyed every visit to this county bar that is a cut above many other roadhouses. Its menu is rightly famous in the area for its variations on American country menus, and for the generosity of portions (as least, compared to what's normally served in my home country, Britain). Many happy family meet-ups here.
John W — Google review
Slowest service I've ever had. Food was good but not worth over an hour wait. They only had 1 server for the entire place including the bar. The menus were being adjusted while we waited so that was strange. Another group got up and left while we were waiting because the food was taking so long. Won't be going back...
Jory B — Google review
We went there today they are open on Sunday. We sat down and got the menu they took our order for drinks. We sat there for 20 minutes had not got our drinks and people that sat at the bar got drinks and ordered then the took the order of a table of six and we sti sat no drinks had not given our order yet. we know their food is good that is why we went there we would have been happy at least to have our drinks but we ended up leaving the waitress said "sorry guys" 07/17/2016
Linda B — Google review
Was really excited to try this place, heard it was often busy so I called at 6:30 and was told to make a reservation for 7:30. Arrive, takes 15 minutes for waitress to acknowledge us and then tells us the kitchen is backed up and it will take 2 hours to receive our food! Left hungry and disappointed.
Kenda F — Google review
We were the only group in the restaurant. There were three people working and we couldn't get a beer. Food took over an hour to get burgers and fries. It was ridiculous we almost ordered pizza from dominos to see if we would get it faster.

Leif Erikson Park is a serene and picturesque park located along the Lakewalk in Duluth. It boasts colorful flower beds, fountains, statues, and gazebos, making it a perfect place for leisurely strolls. The park is home to Duluth's Rose Garden and features a small stage for events. Visitors can also find a splendid sculpture of Leif Erickson and a replica of his ship on the premises.
What a great park near the lake, built mostly above the highway. A nice trail that leads you to more trails down by the train tracks and along the lake. Sadly the rose bushes weren’t in bloom as I can only imagine how much more beautiful the park would be. Stop by here to stretch your legs or have a picnic!
Denai C — Google review
This is a really awesome stop. There is lake access, a train track overlook, and a beautiful rose park/ garden. I would give all 5 stars, but sadly the amount of old booze bottles, trash, and a few needles on the beach pulled it down. I would still absolutely recommend stopping here, just be careful where you step and what you touch.
Maggie M — Google review
Lovely park!! Great view of the lake and the garden is very pretty. The garden is mostly roses but there is a mini peony garden. Lots of walking paths and a beautiful fountain.

I love the walking trails. All of the beautiful rose bushes and trimmed shrubs. The lake views. The water fountain. The bridge that connects to Canel Park. Restroom near Parking Lot. Free Parking.

Leaf Erikson Park is right on Lake Superior just up the boardwalk from canal park. There is a beach that can be accessed through the park as well as a nice flower garden on the north end of the park. It has good views of Lake Superior and the Lift Bridge

Glensheen Mansion

Glensheen Mansion, situated in Duluth, Minnesota, is a historic house museum that offers tours of its 39-room mansion and extensive grounds. Originally constructed in 1908 by the influential Congdon family, this architectural masterpiece boasts Jacobean Revival design and breathtaking views of Lake Superior. Visitors can explore the well-preserved interior with original furnishings and learn about the estate's rich history during guided tours.
The grounds and mansion are beautiful! We’ve done several mansion tours around the country and this was the largest, best preserved site we’ve seen. Unfortunately it was 90+ degrees the day we visited and that kept us from fully enjoying it, it is very warm inside the mansion on a hot day, but worth the walk through. We did appreciate the fans set up in every room. I recommend buying tickets ahead of time as entry is timed, we weren’t sure what time we’d be there so we bought tickets when we arrived and waited about an hour. We did the self guided full tour, $64 for two people - again, we felt it was worth it. It’s set up with ropes and signs so it’s always obvious where you should be going next and staff is scattered throughout. We walked through more quickly than we normally would due to the heat, it took us about 45 mins but I could see it taking longer if you stop to read everything. Highly recommend checking it out.
Melissa G — Google review
Walked the grounds with my niece and sister, loved being able to explore the space outside the mansion after years of taking the indoor tour and skipping the outside portion. Pictures from the 20th of August. It was only 5 dollars for the grounds pass.
Rachel ( — Google review
This is truly the most amazing place. The woodwork and craftsmanship were the best I have seen. Most rooms where done in different woodwork and supplies from all over the word. Grounds and home have been well taken care of.
Cindy N — Google review
This is definitely the most impressive mansion tour I've taken. Everything is set up to be very authentic to the period. We took the self-guided tour, which I highly recommend since they have many interpretive markers to read for more information about the room and history.
Tim S — Google review
Holy smokes this place was awesome. Wife and I are into touring mansion museums when traveling and we really appreciated the full self guided tour. Would recommend doing the tour that gets you into the attic and upstairs areas. Colin was an awesome source of information and you can tell that he enjoys sharing.
David T — Google review
This place is awesome! A must see! It's just amazing the amount of money and work that went into building this house in the early 1900s! So modern for its day! The woodworking is just exquisite! And the stable is, wow, like a house, not a barn! We went on a self guided tour for $20 per person. A great tour because the path is marked out so well! And the yard and gardens are just beautiful!
Susan C — Google review
This was a nice in door tour of the mansion. You'll be walking around the rooms and reading family history. There's also a sea shell scavenger hunt which made it fun. There's not a lot of places during the tour to take a break and have a seat but otherwise there's some out door patio furniture once you get outside where you can relax and enjoy the view of the beautiful lake. There's also military discounts, UMD student discounts and elderly discounts as well. Definitely a nice tour if you're into history and architecture.
JayDoo V — Google review
Excellent self-guided tour. Beautiful early turn of the century (1905) mansion. Beautiful views of Lake Superior. Our teens enjoyed that the tour was self paced so they went fast and hung out on the beach and hammocks while we went slower.

Amnicon Falls State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Nature park featuring waterfalls & rapids on the Amnicon River, trails & camping.
So many waterfalls to see during an interesting and varied hike. We parked in the first available parking lot off of County Road U and then hiked along the edge of the river on the nicely maintained path. The river churns and rolls along next to you as you walk, and the sound and interesting features of the water movement above and below the falls make the hike so enjoyable. After crossing the bridge, don't miss the chance to hike around the island and check out Snake Pit Falls on the far side. It was the most picturesque of them all! The hike around the island is a little more challenging than along the river. Watch your footing throughout the park as it is easy to trip over the rocks and roots on the paths.
Chanelle S — Google review
This is one of my favorite spots thus far. So much to see here. We hiked for 3.5 hours and could have truly stayed all day. There are so many waterfalls and picturesque stops. The trails have ones less traveled and still get you back to the trails easy enough to explore and not stress about being lost.
ASHLEY Q — Google review
Loved our stay! This campsite was perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. It had everything we needed—fire pit, picnic table, and just the right amount of space between sites to feel private without being isolated. The campground was clean, peaceful, and well-maintained. Pro tip: there are no fancy bathrooms, so be prepared to rough it a bit—but that’s part of the charm! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a simple, enjoyable escape outdoors.
Brennan R — Google review
If you love waterfalls, this wonderful park has several that you can get right in front of, on top of, below, and to the sides. As long as you're sure-footed, you can really get all over them here! You can even swim right up to them in a few spots, like the Lower Falls section. The trails here are nice, wide, and easy-going for the most part (there are some roots and rocks, but nothing terrible). There are picnic tables and grills scattered around, and a lot of places to sit on the ground for a more traditional picnic with incredible scenery. There are several parking locations throughout, and each has some incredibly picturesque views nearby. Not much in the way of playground equipment that I saw, just a swingset, but there may be more in the campground area (didn't go over to that part). I didn't notice any shelters, other than the historic covered bridge. Not a deterrent for me, but something to keep in mind if you visit on a rainy day. This is well worth visiting even from across the country (or from other countries). If you're visiting Wisconsin, this should definitely be on your list. If you live here, but have never been, this is one of the places in our state you should go out of your way to see at least once in your life. This place is absolutely gorgeous and so worth the drive! As a side note, not really of any importance to anyone other than me, this review finally puts me at level 10 on Maps. Almost a decade of adding pictures and places, making videos and reviews. I've always had an incredibly strong wanderlust and love of picture-taking. It brings me great joy showing people the weird and beautiful places to visit in our state (and country). My hope is that I have helped to inspire others to get out and explore, and maybe shown people things they didn't even know existed. I've been all over our country, and Wisconsin is an incredibly beautiful place that I don't think most people realize. Time spent outdoors here is time well spent!
Nathan F — Google review
This state park is open year-round and offers some beautiful sightings of nature. There are plenty of outdoor recreational activities available from camping, hiking, hunting and fishing to picnic areas and swimming. We enjoyed walking the trails and exploring all the geological views as well.
Grlenamored — Google review
Those Falls are just beautiful I've never seen waterfalls like that before they are just gorgeous and that I just felt so connected.
Ash — Google review
This is a great, underappreciated park. It’s small, but tends to be less crowded and you have great access to the waterfalls. It’s a much smaller, more intimate version of Copper Falls. The covered bridge is a really neat, unique feature of this park. We visited on a fall drive and returned a couple years later to camp. While you’re here it’s also a quick drive over to Pattison State Park to see the tallest waterfall in Wisconsin: Big Manitou Falls

Not much too see. Falls are Low. We need rain. Tree look diseased with green lime Growth all over them and the rocks. A lot dead trees down. Bad side rail loose and falling apart. Camp ground very nice.

Love stopping at Tom's every time we're in Duluth. They are the best people who run this gem of a store. Stop by, say hello, and I'm sure you'll find something to take home!

Naturally being named Tom, I had to stop in. The gift shop was open and the woman running the place was really nice. Fun little stop when driving along the lake.

Tons Logging Camp is such a cool place. I'm not even a tourist and I love coming here. They have a great selection of local novelty items, hoodies, shirts, hats, jewelry and even some local snacks. In the little restaurant they serve great ice cream in sandwiches. Everybody is always friendly and ready to tell you some of the local history. If it's your first time make sure you take the tour, it's only five bucks and it's very interesting. Even if you're a local, you should check this place out it's a lot of fun.
Brad — Google review
We only made it to the gift shop area because we had the pups with. The first.hsop has loads of neat things and the people working were amazing. It would be cool to check the rest of the place out sometime but I wonder if everything is as run down as the public restrooms

I can't believe we've driven by dozens of times and never stopped. Tons of interesting history here. Great prices at the gift shop, also funny friendly staff. The camp tour is a must do and feeding the animals was great for the kids. 10/10

The rentals were cheap and easy to rent. I spent $82 for 2 days, and they were able to give me all the knowledge to make the most of the trip. The shuttle was prompt and quick. Will be coming back to do this again.

Another fabulous day kayaking down the Brule River today in kayaks rented from this great, family owned company. They provided excellent service, shuttling us from the end point up to the start of our very leisurely 4-hour paddle down this gorgeous river in the kayaks we rented from them. This is one of my all-time favorite places (anywhere!) to kayak. So peaceful, unspoiled, magnificent towering red and white pines lining the river in many places. Saw a number of bald eagles, mergansers, king fisher, geese, and a great blue heron.
Helen M — Google review
I love this place. The staff is always helpful and friendly. Greatest place to get away and relax while paddling down the river. Beautiful scenery is extremely peaceful. It's also a little adrenaline rush going down the rapids. I have been coming to this place since I was around 6 years old with my parents and their friends in canoes. I am 54 now and go down in a kayak.
David B — Google review
We are experienced paddlers but had never tried whitewater kayaks. We had a blast today on the D2 route. The weather was a little cool but we didn't need to worry. They set us up with wetsuits and everything else we needed to stay warm and comfortable on our adventure.
Colleen T — Google review
Walked in at 10:30 am and said we are here to go to superior. They said that’s an 8 hour trip and we can’t let anyone go past 6. This was all the motivation we needed to finish the trip in under 5 hours and still have time to stop multiple times for lunch, diaper riding the rapids, and chill at superior! Good at canoe rentals.
Nick F — Google review
Went with a group of people. We had a great time very relaxing and clean water. Our only complaint would be clear obvious signs of where the trip ends. Non of our phones worked which was nice for spending time together but was not as fun when we were trying to see where we were on the trip. Our own issues not grabbing a map of sorts. But pretty sire we missed the stop for the shorter trip and ended up on a longer trip. But over all experience was fantastic.
Misty A — Google review
Seems to be the main place to utilize which is too bad bc if there was another option, I would encourage people to use it. Young gal at counter showed outright irritation when I said, " what can you tell me about your kayak renting and the sections of river to do?" She wanted to chit chat with young man staff person instead. She talked to us irritated and like she was a robot or recording. She should not work front counter. The shuttle van was disgustingly filthy. Young man driver was a delight. When we were done, we saw a different young man by himself there having to load a lot of kayaks by himself. He was really struggling and it was warm out. We helped him by carrying ours up to him instead of leaving them way down by the pullout. Shame on the company.

The most perfect sailing trip! Great conversation with Captain Mark. He is full of knowledge and stories of Lake Superior. We felt safe and relaxed. There is nothing quite like the soft breeze, glistening water, and sunshine!!! It’s so quiet and so peaceful. We extended our sailing trip by an hour; returned 25 min early so that was a bit of a bummer, but suppose timing is hard on the water. Lone behold Captain Mark realized his mistake in timing and sent us the kindest email, prior to us even getting home! These folks are as good as they get. Genuine, kind, and all about sharing their love for the great out doors and big waters! The world needs more humans like Captain Mark and Katja!!!This is the highlight of my summer!!

My Bonus Daughter and I had an amazing time with Mark on Tuesday!!! Mark was very friendly and taught us many things about sailing. we even got to steer the boat which was so much fun! I highly recommend!!! Also, Mark gave us lots of places to check out in the area from restaurants to beaches to a local hidden gem at Elgin Falls. We did make it there and it was so beautiful and so much fun. Sophia did try out the rope swing!!! Thanks again!! We will be back!

From the very beginning it has been an absolute pleasure talking to Katya over the phone with my many questions, and then changing our scheduled reservation to an earlier day because of rainy forecasts. The whole experience on Lake Superior from start to end was also amazing! Mark gave my 10 yr old son valuable experience by allowing him to help him hoist the sail and bring it down. We thoroughly enjoyed it! HIGHLY recommend Amicus Adventure Sailing!!

This was my husband's and my first time sailing and it was an amazing experience. The captain and crew were very professional, friendly and full of insights and stories. Rather than doing yet another Duluth harbor tour, we were guaranteed a lake experience by driving the scenic route to Knife River. It's definitely worth the short drive because not only is it a unique experience, it's a much better value compared to the tours coming out of Duluth. It was a comfortable and beautiful 2-hour sail. Next time we're definitely opting for the sunset sail!
Nixx O — Google review
We had a fun adventure on an up creek snowshoe tour. Beautiful scenery and no one else had been on the creek! Mark was careful with the ice and open water. He shared information on animal prints and geology. And our trip ended by touching our snowshoes in Lake Superior! A very fun afternoon. We recommend this guided snowshoe experience!

We went out sailing and LOVED IT! My kids, ages 5 and 7, had an equally great time. The conversation was outstanding, learning more about sailing, and enjoying the warm breeze...it was all fantastic! Highly recommend, check it out during your trip to Duluth and the North Shore.

You won't be disappointed. Mark is a consummate sailor, and a welcoming, warm guy. We came back a month later to sail with our 3 and 4 year old daughters! And we'll be back next season. If you want to sail on Lake Superior, these are your folks. They get my highest praise!
Megan R — Google review
It Was a great experience. I learned a lot about the area I’ve been living in for a year! And my first time on a sail boat. It was so relaxing and peaceful. We lost some wind on the way home but had a great wind going out and learned all about the boat. I have gained a huge appreciation for the art of sailing today! Thanks Mark and Katya!

Such a neat candy shop! The caramels were so good. The owner answered many of our questions about the candy making process and gave us a sample of freshly made peanut brittle. Stopped here on a recommendation… suggested the hand made ice cream bars and they did not disappoint. They also had a wide variety of chocolate, caramel and candy offerings that were also delicious. It’s a bit off the main strip but well worth the s yea trip to the scenic road.

My sister had visited this candy store or shop just a few weeks prior to us coming to Duluth for the weekend and she told us that we should come and check out what they have. From reading this has been there for many many years and it is family owned and operated. As soon as you get out of your car, you can smell the smell of chocolate or candy and it's very inviting. They have a lot of little activities that kids can do outside and ample parking. When we walked in we are greeted and we were able to walk around and pick out what we wanted and the prices were very very reasonable. I would highly highly recommend getting a caramel apple. We got ours both that's on it. It was absolutely delicious. The caramel is so creamy and melts in your mouth. The other thing that I would recommend is getting the triple dipped malted milk balls. Those were a hit.

I cannot stress how important this stop is to anyone who has even the slightest sweet tooth taking a trip anywhere near it. I drove an hour from my hotel during my honeymoon because I read that all the candy is hand made in small batches, and I'm so glad I did! The woman at the counter was the sweetest most helpful person I've ever met, the shop is absolutely adorable, and OMG the candy is AMAZING!!!! If you dont like candy (we need to talk 🤣🤣🤣 Just kidding) there are adorable puppets for sale and local items like books and crafts, and the building in and of itself is worth the trip. I'll say it again and I dont think I can stress it enough this is an ABSOLUTE MUST stop!!!! If I could give them 100 stars and send this review to everyone within 100 miles of this candy store I would because that is how passionately I feel about the experience I had today with them!!!

It’s amazing to find a hidden gem like that in the middle of the woods. I enjoyed so much visiting this beautiful place. Every piece of glass, it’s just a piece of art, amazing colors and shapes. Sui, the owner was very nice telling us the histories about how the start the business and her husband design the house. Something else that I love for this place, is the collection of tea pots that they have in the garden. Sui’s mother has collecting them for many years. If you have a chance, don’t hesitate to stop at this marvelous art place.

Castle Danger Brewery is a popular spot in downtown Two Harbors, offering a wide range of legendary beers known for their balanced and approachable flavors. The brewery features a 30 barrel brewing system, canning line, and a contemporary yet rustic taproom with an outdoor patio overlooking Lake Superior. Visitors can enjoy tasting the delectable brews while taking in the fresh breeze from the lake.
I’ve been to dozens and dozens breweries in many different states and after much contemplation I declared this to be my favorite! Every pour is delicious. The landscaping and layout are so beautiful, plenty of seating, quiet/private table conversation because of the way the seating is arranged outside. Tons of games. Adorable gift shop. The food truck was fabulous. Snacks and ice cream were top notch.

Great spot to enjoy some beer and the company of others. We sampled several flights and spent a few hours here playing games (provided free by the bar). We had pizza delivered right to our table from nearby Do North. We didn’t particularly enjoy many of the beers and the bartender was particularly unpleasant. It’s not the most welcoming service which is unfortunate, given what a lovely atmosphere the place had outside of this interaction.
Stefanie G — Google review
Castle Danger is a must-stop brewery on the North Shore. The beer flights are fantastic and give you a chance to try a wide range of their special brews. They also have seltzer options for gluten-free drinkers, which is a nice touch. The food truck adds solid food options, and the taproom has a fun, relaxed vibe with board games available. Great beer, great atmosphere, and a spot worth hanging out at.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was very busy. We sat at the bar and were serviced quickly but later had trouble getting anyone’s attention so we decided to cash out. We went to the “take home beer” area were able to sample a few beers there and ended up purchasing some to-go beer. The Aurora Haze and West Coast IPA’s were good but the Maple Marzen was a big surprise as I normally do not like this style of beer.

Castle Danger is an iconic brewery near the North Shore and worth stopping by if you're a brew lover. The outdoor atmosphere is relaxing and chill on a nice day and the indoor vibe is cozy when ole superior brings the cooler temperatures or rain. Last night there was a food truck serving Mexican favorites and live music. Limited food otherwise (chips, pretzels, and such). Some people brought in their own food and someone had pizza delivered. Very laid back and friendly.

The Superior Hiking Trail Association is now located in the old downtown area, close to Castle Danger Brewing. The store is open on specific days from mid-May through October and offers a variety of SHT-branded gear, guide books, maps, and other merchandise supporting the nonprofit SHTA. Visitors can expect knowledgeable staff and detailed maps of the Superior Hiking Trail at this quaint little store. It's considered a great source for information about trips on the trail and offers some good deals as well.
Knowledgeable staff, plenty of SHT resources and general merch/swag. Modest in size and limited hours, but I found it was not lacking in products and a bit of planning makes for a great visit here.

Museums
The Lake County Historical Society operates the Depot Museum, located in the Duluth and Iron Range Railway Depot, showcasing over 4,000 square feet of interpretative exhibits that chronicle the historical development of the region. The museum houses a collection of almost 3,500 artifacts and features outdoor displays including locomotives and a caboose. Additionally, the society manages other attractions such as the Two Harbors Light Station, Edna G. Tugboat, and 3M Museum.
I recently visited the Lake County Historical Society Museum in Two Harbors, MN, and found it to be a delightful experience. The engaging displays of local history, free admission during an event, and the reasonable $5 entry fee offer good value. Outside, the train displays and the trail to the Two Harbors Lighthouse added to the charm. If you find yourself up in Two Harbors, this museum is a good place to visit.
Sarah M — Google review
Lake County Historical Society offers a three-stop journey through North Shore history — each site with its own personality and charm. The Depot Museum brings the rail and shipping story to life with beautifully preserved locomotives and exhibits that make Two Harbors’ industrial past feel tangible. The Two Harbors Lighthouse is a step back in time with unmatched views of the lake, and the 3M Birthplace Museum is a fascinating peek into the humble beginnings of a global company. Together, they paint a rich, layered portrait of the region — well worth the time for history buffs and curious travelers alike.
Brian — Google review
Mixed feelings about this place. Outside is quite nice with the trains and informative. Inside I wanted to go to the museum, so I requested for a ticket which is $5. Well apparently using your debit card there is a $10 minimum, so I ended up leaving.
Roger R — Google review
Absolutely loved this museum. Smaller but I think that is why I like it so much. Great displays, awesome history and you can't beat the price of $5 to get in. We were the only ones there during our visit. (Thursday morning). Highly recommend.
Sharon S — Google review
A train depot, in a town born out of the forces of history is a great setting for a museum. The $5 charge is more than worth it if one has even the slightest curiosity or interests in the history of this key Minnesota historical spot on Lake Superior's North Shore.

I met a very nice lady named Melissa and her dog Odin. As a somewhat disabled guy, Melissa was very friendly and patient whilst showing me the history of the trains and how the miners had Whiskey Flats or some such.🤷 Anyways, I had a fantastic time and would like to thank Melissa and her fellow regents. 👍👍❤️😎☘️☘️

Amazing museum! Beautifully captures Two Harbors and many other aspects of the region as it progresses through both industry and time. I was so surprised. I will have to be back to digest more information. This is very interesting and captures natural, cultural, and industrial history of the region. Not to be missed or overlooked!

Specialty Museums
The 3M Birthplace Museum is a small but fascinating attraction that showcases the humble beginnings of the global brand. Founded as a mining company by five individuals who discovered corundum, which was used in sandpaper production, the museum tells the story of how they established a quarry along Lake Superior and ventured into selling to the sandpaper industry. Visitors can expect a warm welcome from the staff, who are passionate about sharing the early history of 3M.
What a cool piece of history, preserved and displayed by the kindest, most welcoming staff I've had the pleasure of meeting in some time. As a 3M employee, I have been wanting to come here for so long, but every time I have tried in the past, the museum has been closed. I was overjoyed this weekend to see it open, and quickly parked and jumped out to visit! The lady who was staffing the museum welcomed us in happily and took our names/payment, then proceeded to give us a lovely tour of the early history of 3M. While we were there, 4-5 other groups came in, and it was such a joy to see them curious about the history of our company! I am so proud of 3M and of the people who maintain this museum. This made my weekend.

Tiny museum that highlights the origin and growth of 3M. Some promotional parts but it was interesting. A bit pricy though. If you really want to dig into it’s history there are document drawers with some interesting tidbits. If you’re in the area it’s worth a stop.
Joe — Google review
Can’t really review it, but did get an update from the nice lady at the lighthouse museum gift shop. The 3M museum had water damage from a frozen pipe and needs the floors repaired and a new furnace. The historical society is trying to raise enough money for the repairs. Hey 3M, seems like you could solve this problem pretty fast!
Deane C — Google review
Definitely worth a stop! The museum is all things 3M and the woman who is typically there is full of 3M knowledge and is extremely friendly.
Anne C — Google review
I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't open, but they are worrying on it. Worker told me they had water freezing issues this past winter.
Ann T — Google review
It’s small and quirky so if you expect something lavish you’ll be disappointed. But as a point of pride in a small town, it’s a delightful little gem. Our host shared the stories of the 3M beginnings with an excitement and awe as if it were her first time telling the tale. But she wove in snippets shared by visitors that made it clear she loved her job. A fun and quick stop if you’re looking for some real Minnesota history.
Kendra S — Google review
Not a whole lot going on here. Possibly satisfying for the hard core history buff, most folks are going to find this wanting withing ten to fifteen minutes. To be fair, the overarching sorry is cool, it just isn't enough to cover a full museum stop. Some of the displays are quite nice, some are old and could use a refresh. Note: no public restroom available.
JD ( — Google review
Everyone mentions the $5 price. We were not charged. Because I am a 3M retiree? Not sure. Rainy day on the North Shore and took Hubby in there to show him some products I worked on. The lady that worked there was thrilled for someone to talk to and she was VERY knowledgeable. Cut spot and great company.

We stopped in to do sample infused mead and I was an awesome experience, we sat on the porch listening to some live music and sampling their delicious different meads they make. Highly recommend Black Harbor- and the Acer.

Quaint little winery. Definitely a must stop. They have a 5 for $10 tasting that is definitely worth every dollar. We enjoyed everything we tasted and bought two bottles to take home. The lovely lady who was working was kind and very helpful with recommendations on what to see. Don’t miss this place!!

This is a smaller cider, mead brewery. They offer samples 5 for $10, or spirit samples 3 for $10. The meads are a sweet light crisp mead 9/10! Ciders are light and crisp as well most are semi dry 8/10. Really friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend stopping in! Worth the trip!!

Great selections of Mead and Cider. Great people there. I love their Mead-jito. If John, an owner, is in and you want a refreshing drink without alcohol, ask for John's drink!
Peung ( — Google review
Disclaimer: Have not been to the meadery. This is just a review of 2 of their meads. I bought a bottle of the dry mead and a bottle of the black mead. I have to say, I'm not a fan of either of them. Too similar to dry wine. When I drink mead, I wanna be able to tell I'm drinking mead. There's almost zero honey character in either, in my opinion.

Wonderful Meadery, Cidery, Distillery on US2. Very educational and welcoming. We enjoyed the blueberry mead, many of the ciders and cherry kwench. A must stop!

It was so fun to find this on our way home from Ashland, Wi. It’s such a treat to taste local products! Please visit this neat cozy place! I didn’t get to snap much photos but they do have all kinds of Mead drinks & ciders. The couple John and Kim (Hamilton?) has been running and making these local drinks for the past 28 years! We support local 💯 and they deserve to be recognized more. They are lovely and kind people which makes it an impressive impression, surely! There are toys for kids to get busy with too! But the real deal is the challenge they give to kids with cup & ball, not sure about the name of the game but if you visit you’ll know! Cheers to more Wisconsin place to discover ☺️

The Two Harbors Lighthouse Museum in Two Harbors, Minnesota is a must-visit attraction for those who love the outdoors and history. Situated on the North Shore of Lake Superior, it offers stunning views of Agate Bay and Burlington Bay. The oldest operating lighthouse in Minnesota, it provides a picturesque backdrop for picnics and guided tours inside the lighthouse itself.
Great historical stop. We not only walked out to the light house on the jetty but also toured the old light house and grounds. Even made it up the 47 stairs to view out the windows.
Teresa P — Google review
Glad we decided to stop here, it was unexpectedly beautiful! It costs $5 to go back to the lighthouse but it is plenty visible from outside if you don’t want to pay. The lighthouse itself is a bed and breakfast so you can’t go up to the top but you can walk through the bottom half as well as a few other buildings, there was an informative video playing. The area out back is a must with the black rocks right on the water (accessible for free).

sorry about pictures lol, on May 29th that day was sunny 🌞 n cloudy mixed 😅 by the time we got to 2 harbor Duluth lighthouse n it was cloudy, less visitors and it was great for taking 😀, love it and enjoy walking to lighthouse, local guy didn't catch anything while we had little chats. since it was cloudy n windy walked around lighthouse, we didn't really clearly what it was in the water in cloudy day. but we took lots fun pictures, on the way to lighthouse and we stopped at McQuade small restaurant n tiny parking lot, since not schools off yet, there were not many visitors in Duluth, it was easy parking n really fast got our late lunch orders at 2pm. the foods we got chicken salad, chicken was too dry n too salty n small portion for me, the patty burger n patty was too dry too, but i do recommend no bread deep fry chicken wings come with side French fries, both really crispy but salty for my liking 😋. service was good too. there were 4 construction on the way to 2 harbor Duluth, but it was ok for us driving since it was not peak season, but it looked like more state patrol on the way lol, when we came n we lost cellphone signal couple times and we used Google map lol, otherwise we had good time to 2 harbor Duluth. rest areas we stopped were both nice n clean, wish n hope they can put gas stations n restaurant in the rest area like other states, so we can just 1 stop to get what we want for long trip lol. thx ❤️

A quaint lighthouse to visit. It is a B&B as well. This lighthouse was part lighthouse and living quarters for the keepers. It even had the original oil house as well where they stored the oil. The gift shop shop was the extra fog house. On site was also a pilot house from an old ship. Great history notes and photos in both places. Lots of trails to walk on. Yu can also walk out to the point where the other fog horn lighthouse is. Unfortunately, some of it was tagged. There is a little beach to relax and wade in the water. definitely worth a trip to.

What a beautiful site... can't believe some of what is said in the video or how much Edmunds Fitzgerald was pushed. Enjoyed the lighthouse, keeper quarter and views from the water

I went there 4 years ago and it was very nice and it had some exhibits and the lighthouse was very interesting and being up inside the lighthouse and going to the top and it's a view to kill and because you can see Lake Superior.

Great place to visit! Had a couple of hours to spare so we decided to take a look around! Great views of the lake , got to go in the light house ! very small ! and half of it is a private B&B ! all in all a nice place for a Stoll!

Really really impressed with the prices at this place. Although if you go bowling you'll see that there's a lot of things that need service but we still had a blast boeing. And the servers were really great and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Definitely plan to go back it's one of the best places in the area to go. Thank you so much for providing such an awesome place for the area to go to.

Got a burger. Asked for no onions. Burger came out with onions. Miraculously a new burger was brought out in 1.5 minutes. I took a few bites and not to my surprise could taste onions. All they did was scrape them off, slap a new piece of cheese on, microwaved said cheese and brought it back to me. Will absolutely not be back when I’m in town again.

stayed here for 4 hours while our diesel truck was being worked on at Stewart repair. Don't go to the BP station in iron river wisconsin. They put diesel colored handels on gas pumps. bad bad and worker just does nothing. bowling bar was a great place to kill time

This place is fantastic. It's great to have this gem in a small town. The food is simple, the service was great considering one woman ran the bar, restaurant, and bowling alley, and the atmosphere is humble yet functional. I will caution those of you who own your own ball. This place will ruin them. We received huge chunks and scratches in our balls while bowling.

The trails were freshly groomed for skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking. The trails are easy. The snow added a slight challenge and helped to get the blood pumping! We had a fun time here!
Lisa G — Google review
We stopped on a rainy day to check out the hatchery. The visitors center is small but very nice with displays and a videos of information. You can also rent snowshoes in the winter - so we will definitely be back then to check out the trails. You aren't supposed to turn on any lights (the fish won't eat) so seeing much in the tanks was tough. But a staff member stopped and talked to us about the process, the studies and the success of the program - he was so nice and informative!! I had no idea the fish get seasick!
Emily E — Google review
The Iron River National Fish Hatchery is a wonderful recreational resource. During the winter, there are snowshoes available for use on groomed trails. There is a wide range of snowshoe sizes available. From 7am to Dusk, you can utilize the snowshoes and trails at the Fish Hatchery. The folks that work at the IRNFH put on great educational events like Maple Syrup Tapping. Touring the facility makes for great field trips. The staff are kind, accommodating and bursting with information. My family and I highly recommend a visit to the Iron River National Fish Hatchery.

Had the best time learning how to identify maple trees, tap them, and concentrate sap into syrup. Beautiful facility, wonderful people, and plenty of knowledge.

We did the self guided tour, the directions on where to go and what we could or could not go into were not very clear. We walked the archery course but didn’t finish as the ticks were really bad. It was educational and the baby fish were cute.
Stephanie C — Google review
Went snowshoeing and had an amazing time! What a great facility!
Brian L — Google review
Self guided tour is short and feels somewhat unwelcoming. There are nice trails to walk on with snow shoes available in the winter. It was neat to see the fish and there were some nice signs showing some facts about fish.
Brady H — Google review
Would have given one star but perhaps timing is key to having a good time here because it looks like a pretty cool place...I also could have called ahead to save us making a special trip. The small museum was open but the display fish tanks had no fish in them. The self guided tour led us to a huge room with long tanks containing millions of minnow sized lake trout but you couldn't see them because the lights had to be kept off...apparently they need to be kept in the dark at this stage of their lives. The raceways that are supposed to mimic stream conditions were also empty as were the always-popular-with-my-kids, broodstock tanks. The couple rangers we ran into were less than eager to answer the few questions we had. The grounds have a couple hiking trails so we figured we could at least stretch our legs. The trail was pleasant until we started finding ticks crawling on our DEET soaked clothes. The four of us found 8 ticks before we even got off the trail and after completely stripping down in the bathrooms at the hatchery, our total came to 21 ticks from our half hour walk. YIKES!
