Museums
The Cook Museum of Natural Science is a modern natural history museum located in downtown Decatur. It was founded by John R. Cook, the president of Cooks Pest Control, and features a privately-owned collection of over 2,000 specimens and exhibits covering zoology, geology, paleontology, and nature art. Visitors can explore hands-on exhibits including galleries of bees, turtles, alligators, snakes, and insects.
This was a really nice little museum. Lots of hands on activities. Good way to spend about 2 hours, maybe more if you have little kids that play in the play area. The staff was some of the friendliest I have ever met.

We were visiting from Atlanta and researched this museum. It was fantastic! All of the staff were very personable, professional, and informative. The museum is not large, however, you could easily spend 2 to 3 hours + if you watch an interacted with all exhibits. My son thoroughly enjoyed the kinetic sand volcano pit as well as the animal section. As an adult, I too had an amazing time. The price is great considering what you can do. They also have a craft room that was really neat. The small cafe was also a great addition in case you needed a light snack. Overall this was a great little surprise outing!

I visited the Cook Museum of Natural Science with my child's class on a field trip. We were the only school group during our time there, as far as I know. From the moment we arrived (by school bus) we were met with professionalism and courtesy. Our primary guide met the bus and took care of getting us into the building with our lunches and the students to their class science activity/lesson. Due to the classroom size parents were not able to attend. There were eleven parents attending and we all met in the café area and several of us purchased food and/or beverages. I had a peanut butter and berry smoothie which also contained yogurt. It was really good and I would definitely have it again. I didn't buy any other food from the cafe, but there are many breakfast and lunch options that I hope to try in the future. The prices were really reasonable for a museum (about $5 for the smoothie and food varied based on meal time). After the class lesson we toured the museum as a class. We were color coded and all members of the group wore a wrist band in the group color. Our indoor (read: air conditioned) lunch area was also designated according to the group color. We had two guides through the museum (our original guide Kara and another lady whose name I forget) and everything is very well planned. The students are limited to one or two areas at a time (biology, wetlands, space, Earth, rocks/minerals, etc.) and Kara acted as our "stop sign" so no one got away from the group. The areas/rooms/stations are (probably) timed so that the kids have enough time to check out most everything but don't have time to get bored. They definitely kept us moving but it never felt rushed. We ended up at our lunch area where we had lots of long, clean tables and chairs and plenty of room to spend out. I should mention that there were only about 32 total people in our group, so we didn't need a lot of space. After lunch the students had time to look around the gift shop and make purchases. I was pleasantly surprised that pretty much everything was really reasonably priced. My child got a nice sized stuffie for $12 and everything else seemed reasonable, too. It was a really great trip. I had a great time and the students seemed to enjoy the trip, too. My family will definitely be going back for a day trip.

It was a great field trip experience with my granddaughter. All of the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Also, the food from the café was delicious at lunch.

Really awesome museum. Very organized, clean and helpful staff/volunteers. Not really for kids under the age of 8.

Great little museum. The entire staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable! Would definitely go again. We went on a rainy weekday and it wasn't crowded at all. Children 9 and 12 both had a blast!

Great way to spend 2 hours. The place isn’t huge, but if u take your time and see all of it- you can make it last a few hours. Cool exhibits Good restaurant as well. Good for all ages: 1-100

March 23, 2024 I went here for the first time this year and I loved it. My husband and I spent at least two hours here but could have spent more time! I am 34 years old and I loved it. It is for all ages. Adults like to have fun too! The bathrooms are so clean and updated! I love how much interactive things there are to do. If you love science and nature you will want to check this museum out. I am going to let my pictures do most of the talking. There is an elevator for people who may be physically disabled. Every employee I talked to was professional and friendly. We ate at the cafe inside and I was impressed with the quality of their food. I got a Greek chicken wrap. Mining for gems is an additional cost it is not included with the ticket to the museum. It is worth it if you look at my pictures. The bigger bag can produce bigger gems and the really cool fossils. There is also a gift shop as well. I bought a couple things myself. I recommend going here! Edit: I keep reading how some people blew through the museum in 20 minutes and didn’t think it was interactive enough. Your kids are too young are you chose not to be active with them and it expected it to be a thing where you could just watch your kids at like a playground. It’s not going to be like that if your kids are younger. You are actually going to have to help and play with them.

This historic building offers guided tours during the week, allowing visitors to delve into the fascinating banking life of the 1830s and learn about Decatur's past. Wow! I wished I knew about this little gem before! Any time of day any time of year this Is one of those places that never gets old no matter what season it i.. there areall types of stuff in here, I don't think you wouldn't be able to see everything they have if you spent all day here. Now I understand why it's called a general store It is so old timey and so unique I think this may be my favorite place in downtown Athens highly recommend go check it out it's an amazing place!! And the coffee and treat are delicious
Kristin M — Google review
Very cutesy store with cute nicknacks and classic /vintage candy selections. They have an impressive selection of chocolates and amazing mouthwatering truffles. I really recommend the key lime truffle. It literally tastes like key lime pie. Overall we thought the old novelty store aesthetic was so adorable and we left with like $40 worth of candy. Overall we were very happy with our experience.
Kate W — Google review
Great store with good selection. The candy looked amazing! I love that it’s just like an old store! The employees were really nice!

UG White Mercantile is a true Athens staple—full of charm, history, and one-of-a-kind finds. Whether you’re shopping for gifts or just browsing, it’s always a fun experience. We’re proud to have this gem in our downtown!
Innovative S — Google review
This is such a cool store! Lots of interesting things here, including old fashioned candy, soda, a coffee cafe/bar, teas, decor. Definitely a fun place to stop and browse!
Rebecca K — Google review
Very cute! We had fun just browsing. All kinds of gifts whether for someone else or for yourself! Kitchen items, jams, sauces, knives, toys, candies, t-shirts… the list goes on! I’m sure at one point (opened in 1917), it was more of a hardware/furniture store, but at this point in time, expect lots of goodies.
The T — Google review
Pocket knives and sundrop in glass bottles, and if you are looking for something special come check out U G whites store Old Fashioned candy too! Friendly staff
Audrey V — Google review
UG Whites claims to be a hardware store, but its more of a massive southern activity factory for the whole family, woth hard-to-find items such as rare candy, model trains, and more. The atmosphere remimds me, at least, of a combination of a log cabin and my grandmother's house. The employees are nice, as always, and the prices could be better, but for what you find, it's barely an issue. Overall, 9/10, will go again, probably as a part of the Christmas Open House.

Alabama Veteran's Museum

Museum
Military Museums
Museum & archive devoted to US military history, with tours led by veterans & a gift shop.
Really fun and interesting. People are really nice and answer questions. Has all major wars from Revolutionary to Afghanistan along with the Ukraine war. Definitely one of the most interesting artifacts museums. Well put together as well, helping you see the progress of history.
Brennam K — Google review
I had the best experience yesterday at the Alabama Veterans Museum in Athens! I was already at the museum for the State of the Education Address and wanted to walk through the exhibits while I was there. I was reading a passage when volunteer Bob Utecht approached me. I explained that I live just down the road from the Veterans Museum, but had never stopped by. He told me, "Well, if you love museums, you'll love this place!" I laughed and told him that museums are my life! He gave me a walking tour through all of the exhibits. We went from the Revolutionary War, all the way to the present day. He took the time to answer all of my questions, give me specific details about each display, and make me laugh throughout the whole trip. I did not expect to have such a memorable visit, but Mr. Bob made it a wonderful experience! In this picture, he is standing with his own uniform, which he donated to the museum. When I asked him for the photo, he told me it was $0.50 per photo and $1 for him to get out of the picture! 😂 I'll be back this weekend to spend more time here!
Shelby Z — Google review
Admission is donation only but please donate! There was the sweetest veteran man there to give information about anything you wanted today. The place isn't super huge but packed with tons of great stuff. So many uniforms, weapons, metals, various equipment and artifacts and information inside. Don't forget the stuff outside too! Inside is in order by war and there's more coming soon. My older kids are 8 and 9 and enjoyed themselves also. They have big clean bathrooms, water fountain and little gift shop as well.
Jessie B — Google review
Honestly it’s difficult for me to give anywhere in Alabama 5 stars. However this place while small has a great collection and the docent was great. Lots of the exhibits are associated with locals and their stories. As a veteran myself it was nice to visit a small communities museum and see so much care and pride put into the place when I know they don’t have significant resources. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. There is no charge to enter, it is free.
Darryl W — Google review
Was super cool to not only see the history of our country, but to see artifacts from various wars. We even got to speak to someone in the archives who helped us discover information on some of our relatives. It's very much worth checking out!
Elle B — Google review
I was invited to the Alabama Veterans museum by Jim, whom I met at Waffle House a few days before. I was thoroughly impressed. They have the exhibits in chronological order and by service Branch. I was loving every minute of it... But I lost my breath, when I came upon the exhibit for the USS Arizona... They actually have a small artifact from the USS Arizona that sank in the attack of Pearl. I couldn't believe my eyes I never thought I would be that close to a part of Naval history. Did I mention of a Navy vet... So I'm a sucker for that stuff. It's free and amazing.... Take your family and let themselves learn about something....
Crowe — Google review
Awesome displays, unique details, and great stories, dedicated to honoring the service of the US military! The museum team provides guided tours, or you can wander on your own. Beautiful park outside honoring those who have served. Thank you to Bob for brightening up my afternoon!!

Joe Wheeler State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Lakeside park offers a restaurant, cottages & plenty of space for gatherings & getaways.
Was absolutely beautiful. My boyfriend and I went kayaking and fishing over by the locks. Caught some large drum, a big cat fish, and a small bass. Had a blast. Will definitely be back.
Danielle P — Google review
It really is beautiful. We took several hikes on the well-groomed trails. The view from our amply-sized room was peaceful on the nice big balcony. The desk staff was friendly. The lodge was undergoing some much-needed renovations in the rooms. The walls were dingy in our room, especially in the bathroom, but it seemed clean enough. I'm glad I called ahead to find out just what 'kitchenette' means to them (individual pod hotel coffee maker, mini-fridge, and microwave). We brought an electric fry pan. I would also recommend bringing your own coffee maker and coffee.
Mary M — Google review
Took the pontoon boat scenic tour of the lake. The Captain was great and highly informative. Lash's restaurant provides the food in the restaurant and it's really very good. A little more expensive than if you go directly to Lash's. Highly recommend the boat ride.
David S — Google review
We camped 2 nights at the Joe Wheeler State Park campground. We had a campsite in the older A area. The campsites are quite large and shaded, and camping areas were clean. There was a table and firepit with a grill that folded over it. The bathhouse was fairly clean but old and in need of repairs, i.e., most of the toliet doors didn't have a latch, and one of the sinks, you couldn't turn off the water completely, the soap dispenser was broken and no soap provided at the sinks. The outside sinks were completely unusable. The newer camping areas looked nice, but I didn't go inside the bathhouses. These areas had some trees, and some campsites were shaded, but many were not. You can reserve and pay for your campsite online, and you are sent the code to get in. There is a gate that closes at 1am, and you can't get in after that. There is a small playground and there is a sandy swimming area. The staff at the office and small camp store are very friendly and kind. We would go again but maybe stay in the newer area.
Terry A — Google review
This was my first visit back since the tornado did its damage. I was only at the beach area, but was very pleased with how the area was renovated. The pavilion is big with lots of picnic tables and the bathroom was clean. We missed not having the dock to swim out to, but still had lots of fun swimming in the water and playing in the sand.
Jenifer B — Google review
First time visiting alabama. Spent a week in the cottage number 3. Unit was clean and very accommodating for four adults. Nice dock in back yard for fishing or docking boat in between foshing sessions with power outlets available.for charging. Highly reccomend!
Dan G — Google review
We were visiting my uncle in Rogersville Alabama and visited Joe Wheeler State park and absolutely looooved the rocks over the water downhill from picnic area 3 I believe it was. Gorgeous view and so peaceful. We were shocked hardly no one was in that area on the rocks..really just us and 1 man that was fishing.
Mandy S — Google review
This campground has a great view of the lake. Loved our campsite, level, wide gravel site. WIFI, good water pressure, full hook up! It has been refurbished after a terrible storm came through and they built it back "right!" They are still building and adding sites. They have sites with some shade but our site was in the wide open space, good for our satellite. Local TV was good we usually like keeping track of the local weather. 0ct. 2, 2025 Big rig friendly!

Southern Pride Distillery

Distillery
Food & Drink
Great distillery and tasting experience. Courtney, the Distillery Manager spent some time going over the history and nuances of their distillery that sets it apart from others. I enjoy different flavors and characteristics in distilled spirits and these were very good examples.
Tony F — Google review
We stopped by here on our way to Lynchburg and had the best time! The peach whiskey and apple pie moonshine are both delicious.
Victoria L — Google review
We went to southern pride yesterday on the recommendation of a friend. The farm is on a beautiful property, there are plenty of farm animals and I saw a couple of ducks near the pond. The tasting room is nicely decorated and he keeps all of moonshine and whiskey he sells on ice for tasting. We talked briefly and explained our taste preferences and he started handing us small tastes of his product. Some we liked some We didn’t, but throughout the entire experience he was friendly and told us stories. We spent about an hour just talking, not even tasting anything. He let my son play with his cat to keep him occupied. Then he showed us around the back where they make the alcohol, that is a really cool experience seeing how so a small distillery can produce so much product. We bought two bottles of the big stuff and I’ll probably be back on Friday to grab another bottle of the peach. It was a great experience, I’m glad we went and I look forward to buying more of their product. Now, I want to address some of the previous reviews. Whoever said he is openly racist probably never stepped into the building. They probably saw he flies a couple of “Trump 2020” flags and used that to determine he was racist. In the Hour and 10 minutes I spent with him yesterday I never got the sense or feeling that he did not want us there. He was very kind and generous. And whoever said he was closed on a Saturday without warning, was probably right. I asked him about why they weren’t opened the previous weekend and they were out of town at a conference with other distillers, the sheriff doesn’t want them to put up signs because then it advertises to local criminals that they aren’t home and no one is watching the barrels.
Juan M — Google review
Highly disappointed.. Drove an hour and half to try the best moonshine around just to find they were closed. They haven't updated their hours of operation on google which showed them open for business till 4pm.. So returning to Rutherford county empty handed
Derrick B — Google review
Drove an hour and a half to do a tasting and buy groomsmen gifts based on recommendation..... and they were closed at 2:30 on a Monday. Business hours are listed at 8-4 Mon-Sat.... super disappointed
Jessica R — Google review
A must-visit absolutely! The apple pie is very good! Very nice micro Distillery.
Kevin L — Google review
We visited the distillery on our way to Huntsville and it was great. Got greeted by the company representative in the parking lot. (Sweet yellow Lab). The whiskey was even smoother than the Lab. Owners are super nice people too. We bought 3 bottles after sampling and we will visit again soon
Kevin B — Google review
NEW One of the best tasting experiences. They let you try all kinds of flavors of moonshine and their amazing whiskey. This is a real gem and one of the best ways to try real moonshine when you are in Tennessee. The host was very knowledgeable and we very much enjoyed the 2 bottles we picked up.Definatly will be back for more.

Visitor center
Tours
The Jack Daniel's Distillery Visitor Center serves as the perfect starting point for an unforgettable journey into the world of whiskey. Located just a short drive from Lynchburg, TN, this center offers engaging guided tours that delve into the rich history of Jack Daniel and the intricate process behind crafting their renowned whiskey. Visitors can expect to be captivated by knowledgeable guides who share fascinating stories and insights throughout the hour-long tour.
Great addition to a Nashville trip itinerary. It's quite a drive to get there but the facilities and grounds are beautiful. The tour itself is top notch. Amy was knowledgeable and funny and made all-things whiskey intelligible to a bunch of novices. The tour has some stairs but is generally physically accessible and you could skip the indoor parts with stairs and still get a lot out of it. The tasting room is beautiful and I walked away with a much better understanding and appreciation of whiskey making. Definitely walk into the Lynchburg town square after the tour for some food and souvenir shopping. As will be a surprise to no one, the special gift if you buy some merchandise is a shot glass.
Mary L — Google review
This was one of my favorite tours of all time. Beyond what I was expecting which was just a look around an old distillery. Well it was way more than that. It was a walk back in time and through America’s history. This tour was incredible for how it took you inside the day to day workings of Jack Daniel’s which is the same today, more or less, than it was back in the late 1800s. They have been making old number 7 the same way as the distillery’s founders did all those years ago. This was a wonderful sensory tour combining visual, aural, and aromatic moments that truly drove home what it is to make Jack Daniel’s whiskey. And on top of that was the tour guide Matt. His wonderful personality and engaging style made this tour unforgettable.
Philip D — Google review
The “all about the barrel” tour was absolutely fantastic! We learned so much and enjoyed touring the facilities. Kayla was extremely knowledgeable and did a great job of explaining everything. This was a highlight of our trip and we would definitely do it again!
Taylor F — Google review
We went on "A day at Jack" tour and our guide was Justin. It was an amazing tour, newly added. Justin did a fantastic job and made the day so much fun. We were learning and exploring the distillery and process, Miss Mary Bobo's and downtown Lynchburg. There were stories shared, Jack was sampled, great food was consumed, and plenty of laughs were had.
Dave L — Google review
The All About The Barrel Tour was great. Kayla was very informative, patient and entertaining. She knows all the answers and if she didn't she found them out. She is an excellent public speaker and great tour guide. We got to see inside barrel houses, had slushies, went to the rickyard, saw the special water source and Jack Daniel's office. We walked through the process watched a video and ended at a tasting with a few small take home gifts. While at the visitor center stop in the White Rabbit Bottle shop. Mr. Flanders, the security guard, is friendly and had a great conversation. He suggested other things in the area, the next area we were traveling to, and hotel options. There are other tour options but All About The Barrel is a good one. Locally there is some controversy and are some hurt feelings between the origins story. Come check out Jack Daniel's Distillery and visit the area.
Rowanda T — Google review
This was an interesting tour. As a Jack Daniels drinker I was able to see how the whiskey is made. My wife who isn't a Jack Daniels drinker for the tour and the information very interesting. It is amazing what goes into each shot of whiskey. This is a walking tour with a tasting at the end. Be sure to visit the gift shop, you will find some items here that are not available in stores.

We visited the Jack Daniel’s Distillery today and had a great experience. Our tour guide, Debbie, was incredibly pleasant and made the whole excursion fun and interesting. We really enjoyed the tour and would definitely recommend it!
Diana S — Google review
A really great experience. Let me tell you that you are allowed the tasting and one addition alcoholic beverage which was your choice of Jack and lemonade and or Jack and coke, both are slushies and the slushy is for an additional charge. It was my first tour of a distillery. There were some stairs but not a whole lot. Our host was charming and funny. He told us about the history of the distillery and how they make it all. The tasting room was top notch. They taught us how to really drink whiskey which helped a lot. It was a really amazing tour.

If you're looking to take home a piece of Lynchburg after your visit to the distillery, the Jack Daniel's Lynchburg Hardware & General Store is the perfect stop. This charming shop offers an extensive selection of Jack Daniel's merchandise, including apparel, barware, and unique souvenirs that capture the spirit of this iconic brand. While it may not be your typical hardware store, you'll discover delightful keepsakes like keychains and furniture crafted from repurposed whiskey barrels.
Such a nice store in the local village to Jack Daniel’s Distillery. Lots of merchandise and to be honest you could spend a lot of money in here. I spent some. But you could kit your entire house out or home bar.

Definitely stop by here whether you've already done or not done the Jack Daniels distillery store. The have extended merchandise sold here, at this store which is right by other neighboring gift shops. It wasn't too busy when we visited on a weekend afternoon, and he staff here was pleasant. I recommend visiting!

This is a great place to get Jack Daniel's merchandise. Many great clothing options and other whiskey related souvenirs make it a must-see stop in Lynchburg.

Great store for Jack Daniels items.
Benjamin H — Google review
Great stop while you are in town. Has a lot of Jack Daniels items to buy. Prices are as expected. If you do a tour come here after and get a free shot glass with a $10 purchase. One per person. If your a Jack Daniels fan you will find something to buy if your not then you won’t. Simple as that. They have a shop that makes “stuff” out of the barrels. That was worth coming by to check out as if you need something for your bar at home this is the place to get something.

You can even buy a used Jack Daniels whiskey barrel or half barrel here. Your ticket from the distillery tour is good for a free shot glass if you buy $10 of "stuff" - which is way too easy to do here!

It's an old hardware store that has ties to the distillery. It is now being used as the official gift shop of Jack Daniels. It's very spacious and has unique items and gifts for the Jack Daniel's lover. My favorite part of the store was the handmade crafts made from the old used barrels.

Lynchburg Cake and Candy Company, located just a few miles from the town square, is a charming shop offering a wide variety of homemade cakes, candies, and chocolates. Their most famous item is the Lynchburg Whiskey Cake made with Jack Daniel's Whiskey. They also produce milk chocolate candy flavored with whiskey. Visitors have praised the friendly owner who provides tours and shares insights into the making of these unique treats.
Great shop. Stopped in and grabbed some sweets. The owner Bill is a great guy and shared his story on how his business got to where it is today. Get the Pecans!

local man who got into cake & candy that includes Jack in the ingredients after he retired. Very friendly gentleman who operates this in a building next to his home. Very informative on how it all began as well as letting u look around how its made. The sign is one on the main road as u approach Jack Daniels so watch for it & take the half mile detour and check it out, plus the tour is free, and his cake & candy is unique.

I met the owner Billy Thomas a few years back. A group of us were riding motorcycles and saw his sign so we stopped. What a wonderful decision! Billy gave us a tour, samples, and a great welcome. Each year some of my friends ride through and I tell them to stop in and see him. I know they will always be welcomed warmly!- Love the whiskey balls. Very tasty and affordable. I order them for Christmas gifts every year.

My friend and I stopped by here after our Jack Daniel's tour and wow did we love it. We live in Vegas, so we aren't used to small towns, therefore we were a little leery when driving up as it looks like a home. We were welcomed by such a friendly man who took us on a tour and told us all about what he makes. We had a great time and walked out with lots of deliciousness. The Whiskey Praline Pecans are our absolute favorite. We bought a bunch to bring home to our family and everyone loved them. That was three years ago and now I have it delivered to my house. There is nothing like it!

My boyfriend & I are in Nashville visiting from Seattle, WA - I used to live here but we love to find new things to do in the state when we come to visit. We were on our way to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery when we came across Billy’s shop! He super sweet & passionate about his candy - which by the way is absolutely delicious! He gave us a tour of his shop & told us all about his company. I strongly suggest everyone stop by to meet this amazing gentleman & try his candy!

While in Lynchburg visiting the Jack Daniels facility, we heard about this cake and candy shop. We left the Jack Daniels plant and to our surprise our next destination was only a mile away. As we turned onto the driveway, my thoughts were that the GPS had lead us wrong again. At the end of the driveway sat a small building. My thoughts were that this must be a retail shop to purchase the cakes and candy.. I was wrong, this was the whole kit-n-kaboodle. As we entered the building, we passed through the heart of the business, the office. Mr. Bill greeted us with a big smile and led us to the mailing room. As we looked at all the treats that they had to offer, Mr. Bill explained the history behind the business. Let's just say you'll have to take the trip to Lynchburg to hear it for yourself. It was the best hour spent, of anywhere I went in the Nashville area, hands down. Awesome visit, and a inspiration for anyone who has just started or is thinking about starting a small business.

David Crockett State Park

Creekside park with walking trails, camping & cabins, plus boat rentals & a massive swimming pool.
Absolutely great! My extended family used to book our Reunions here for the "Hayes-Martin" side and although I found none of the facilities or pavilions that used to be rented I did find a huge nature trail and of course the legendary waterway. Definitely worth a return trip once the park gets into full swing later this spring. I was amazed by the price of kayak rentals. $8 for an hour is an excellent price. Plus there is plenty of area to peruse them. This will absolutely be my next primitive camping spot. Between hiking and biking alone I was physically occupied for more than 3 hours and that's not even 1/16 of the parks facilities.

This was an amazing day here!! I wish that I had more time to spend! The park was easy enough to find get to and park. Plenty of parking places. The trails that I went on today were great! A moderate hike, plenty to see and look for. I absolutely love hiking near water, I’m glad I wore my longer socks today, I went through a few thorns. I wish I could’ve stayed longer!!!

Stayed in our RV in campsite 2. Had a good time near good people . The park is pretty and quite. Highly recommend for a low key rest vacation for sure.

Favorite Tennessee State Park. We go every year at least once a year. There are two camps grounds one by a creek and one in the mountain. Facilities are clean. They have site for Large RV’s to tent camping. There is a small museum, small inclosure for some Owls and raptors. Take your bike lots of trails for biking and hiking!

Amazing state park. Stayed 2 nights in one of their cabins, absolutely beautiful!! Lake Lindsey Falls was the star of the show for us. Easy walk from the Museum. Crockett Falls were nice as well, kids loved playing in the water. Saw deer so sweet. Did a geocache. Lots of hiking trails, so much to see and do!!

Very clean and family friendly state park. Could easily be a 5/5 if they would get the “Olympic sized” swimming pool operational. Please quit advertising it on your website until you get it up and running.

We had a good time and learned alot about how they drain the lakes and why, the owls and Hawks were cool to see and get up close, the waterfall was beautiful but we missed the big waterfall due to lake being drained in late fall.

Stumbled across Big Machine from the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and I was really impressed. I took the tour and the tasting and Sue was an amazing tour guide! She went through the history of the distillery, the changes, and went over the entire process of making the vodka, whiskey, and bourbon. It was awesome to taste everything they offer. I will definitely be back!

Amazing Experience at the Distillery! Had a fantastic time on the distillery tour — Devon did an amazing job guiding us through the process! She was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the whole experience fun and memorable. The staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. We also got to sample some great-tasting products — each one unique and full of flavor. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great time and some quality spirits! The slushy machine was a great touch and added to the chill/hang out vibe. Well worth the stop.

During our initial visit to this establishment, my girlfriend and I had the pleasure of bringing our newly turned 21-year-old daughter. The quality of the spirits was truly impressive, and Kenzie left a lasting impression on us. Her exceptional service went above and beyond, ensuring our visit was truly memorable for our daughter. We are already looking forward to returning for another excellent experience!

We stopped by last minute for a quick tour on our way from Nashville to Florida. Elie was welcoming and answered all of our questions, and we learned a lot! It was really interesting to see the production line and how all of the byproducts are used. Of course, our trip would not be complete without buying a couple bottles. ;)

Stopped in while on the Tennessee whiskey trail. Really enjoyed the Old Fashioned during tasting.
Gt S — Google review
Took a day off work to come take drone/camera footage of the establishment during an event. First they wanted a video of the event for their social media. They then wanted to scratch that idea and make a video showing off the establishment. THEN, they decided they wanted all of my footage and photos to use freely. When i gave them that price for everything they never responded. They did not receive anything from me and I was never compensated. Not for the work, time i was there, time traveled and the day of pay I had missed from my full time job. Headache to say the least.
Scott S — Google review
It’s a short tour but you are there for the tasting anyway! Trinity our guide was laid back and quite knowledgeable. She answered all my questions. Took me through the tasting samples and explained each. Plenty of parking and clean restrooms.

Great tour with the friendliest Amish families I've probably met so far in the year and a half I've lived here. This time of year (mid March) you can look at jams, jellies, cookies, candles, soaps, peanut brittle, various furniture and stuff like that at the farms to buy. Make sure you have change because some are self serve it no one is there. They have beautiful tables and yard furniture. 😍 We got to look in the building where they made furniture and a couple other places too. The wagon is covered with plenty of seating, the ride can be a bit bumpy sometimes so sit by a post to hang on if you think you might need it. There's a little ladder attached in back but you definitely can't be physically disabled to climb up it. The tour guide was very knowledgeable knowing about all the families, general info about the Amish, what all the buildings were for etc but definitely not a "politically correct" guy. Lol. Last tour leaves about 4:00 and is $10 for adults and $5 for children. I believe you get free wagon tours with museum tickets which are $20 for adults and $10 for kids. My parents were visiting from out of state and really enjoyed it. I took them, my elementally school aged kids and 10 month old twins worn in baby carriers. The tour guide even let my kids "drive" the horses which totally made my day! We will be back when I have more family visit later this year.

They were so welcoming and accommodating. We purchased some delicious Amish made jams, jellies, preserves, pickled squash, onions, beautiful handmade baskets, candies, goat soap, candles, knife block and I other item. Our buggy guide even let my daughter and grandson drive the carriage. All in all it was a great day.

Very friendly people in the store and friendly people that do the wagon tours. It was highly enjoyable and you learn a lot. The cost of the wagon tour and the cost of the goods you get the opportunity to purchase in the Amish community are very affordable so you don’t have to go breaking the bank for this outing. The Amish community is absolutely beautiful and they are such sweet souls. I’ll definitely be back.

I love this place!! If you have something you need to sell and you need money bring it to the flea market and sell it. The best day to sell is on Saturdays but we are trying to change that to Friday Saturday and Sundays. It is $8.00 a day to sit up under a big shelter. Great place to find Jewelry, Antques, one of a kind items, and much, much, more. Sweet people and have a great time. Come on down.
Deborah T — Google review
A very interesting place. They have a good selection of items that are hard to find anywhere else. Like, corning ware, iron skillets, home made goat soap, lie soap, quilts, a lot more items. I always ride the horse and wagon, which to me is a lot of fun. The Amish only had strawberries and green onions. I went may 18, 2022. They want have tomatoes, bell peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe, egg plant, cabbage, okra, till July, I'm going back in July. I love there vegetables. To me there's are the best.
Janey B — Google review
Very friendly and welcoming. Tour and Musuem were very interesting and they had stops on the way where you could buy jams, jellies, bread, bake goods and wooden made toys. Lots of different items available for sale. Tour Driver was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the tour. Would go back again.

We had a lovely afternoon tea at Southern Charm. The vintage atmosphere and music are perfect for the setting. Our server, Kim, was very friendly and did an excellent job recommending teas. Her customer service was top notch. The food & sweet treats were delicious! We had the turkey sandwich, chicken salad sandwich and cucumber sandwich. The scone tasted freshly baked. It was a very satisfying experience and we will definitely do it again.

Don’t wait… book a tea party at Southern Charm in Bell Buckle!! Be sure to plan some time before or after to explore the town and the little shops and nooks and corners to be discovered in this gem of a town. My sweet friend Holly Smyth and I had tea in Bell Buckle on Saturday to celebrate my June birthday. It was 5 out of 5 experience! We are already planning to go back for a Christmas Tea to celebrate her birthday. Our tea time was 3 pm and the Menu included: 1. Tomato Sandwich - Garden fresh sliced tomatoes atop white bread and vegetable cream cheese spread. 2. Chicken Salad - Served on a croissant layered atop ripe strawberries 3. Spinach and Bacon Quiche Raspberry Lemon Scones with Lemon Curd and Devonshire Cream Cream Cheese mints, Blackberry Macaroons, Lemon squares and Dark Chocolate Ganche Cups with fresh fruit garnish throughout House Black Tea with Locally sourced Honey, Lemons and fresh cream Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble Tea - soooo yummy. This was our specialty pot of tea. Tasted like the dessert but in a tea. Simply amazing! Everything was homemade by Amy, the owner and our hostess, herself or locally and was delicious! If you’ve read the book, Amy is a real-life “Lessons in Chemistry” character! She has a doctorate in Chemistry and Physics, but after teaching for a while she decided this was her true passion. I loved hearing her share family and community stories!

The two ladies that took care of our tea party today were very kind. The food was yummy and the tea was also. Unfortunately, half of our party cancelled and they were very understanding. I would 100% recommend booking the tea room for a party with them.

We had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy Afternoon Tea at Southern Charm over Labor Day weekend, and it was truly a phenomenal experience. The tea room was beautiful, the tea selections were excellent, and the Apple Cinnamon Coffee Cake is a must-try. Our hostess, Sophia, was outstanding—knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly kind. The scones she made were delicious, and she checked in often to ensure we had everything we needed. Amy was also wonderful, making sure our visit was seamless and special from the moment we arrived until the time we left. The entire tea tower, from sweet to savory, was delightful. If you’re anywhere near this tea room, I highly recommend visiting—it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

My friends and I went to Southern Charm Tea Room today. We made reservations and ordered our selections in advance. There were tea sandwiches, scones with jam and Devonshire cream, and delicious cookies. Way too much food to eat. The tables we set beautifully and Kim took great care to be attentive to our every need. We would highly recommend going to Southern Charm!

I love the selection of case knives this store has. My husband and I collect Case knives and have once bought a few from southern charm. Although I love the selection, I am giving them a 2 star review today because today is the second time my husband and I have driven hours out of the way just to visit the store and they are closed. Both times Google has said they were open and their website didn’t say they were closed but both times they were closed. It is very disappointing! Whoever runs the store needs to accurately display the hours of operation because it has been a waste of time now more than once. :(

Retreat offering an inn, cabins, campsites, a golf course & a restaurant serving Southern fare.
We stayed here last week and it was pretty cold so no water hookups which meant using their bathrooms. They were very clean every single day we were there. The park was very quiet with deer running around. Our campsites were great and the staff was great. This was our first time in Tennessee and I would genuinely go back to this park again. We loved it!

Not the first time coming here! Won’t be the last!!!! This is the first time that I brought all my kids and wife at the same time. We love the trails, we love the campgrounds, we love the playground all of it! The restrooms were clean and easily accessible, kept warm too I might add.

We love this place. Free to pull up and BBQ. They have cabins you can rent, RV parking and tenting if you live life on the wild side. You can rent pavilions for what ever you want. Prices vary. There also a full size restaurant that has a full size bar. I know they also have a farmers market but check the website for dates. Very important. Obey the speed limits. There is a long stretch of 30 MPG. OBEY They are watching. Have fun.

We only had an afternoon to spend here, but loved our short ‘hike’ around the campground loop. The helpful staff here made it possible for my son (who is non-ambulatory)to use one of the all-terrain wheelchairs. There was no cost for this., and it enabled him to enjoy the beauty of the state park. we even got to have a picnic way off the beaten path! High five to the park staff and to the great state of Tennessee for providing this wonderful service and this beautiful park!!

Very nice experience! Actually clean bathrooms and showers. We went kayaking on the one way river with a 3 mile hike back to out vehicle and it wasn't bad. The only thing is the kids have no boundaries when running around. I know it is a camp site but....

This park has it all! Fishing, shooting range, golf, Frisbee golf, playgrounds, a pool, bird watching areas, a lodge, camping ( rv, and primitive/ tent camping) they even have hammock camping. They have a nice new restaurant, beautiful hiking trails, and more. Everything is fairly priced for what it is. I took my family here for the weekend and had a blast. We hiked on some very scenic trails, used the pool all day, and stayed in the lodge. The state staff is accommodating and friendly, professional, and speak well on the area. I highly recommend this place for a little family getaway.

President James K. Polk Home and Museum

Historical place museum
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Historic house museum & residence of President Polk, offering 30-minute tours & garden access.
What a great piece of preserved American history! The house is in great condition for its age. The many artifacts, some that were actually in the White House, are nicely preserved and displayed. You start in the sisters house watching a short film and move over to the parents' house next door. After that you move to the kitchen building and the garden before returning to the sisters' house for the museum room and gift shop. The gift shop offers some nice Polk themed keepsakes and small toys for the kiddos. Polk is an underappreciated President and figure in American history. Expanding our nation west and obtaining that territory was no simple task, especially in those days. One warning is that the website price lists "Children under 6" as free, HOWEVER they charge for children "5 and over" as listed on my receipt. So I was charged for my 5 year old but not the end of the world. All in, it was a great way to spend President's day!
Adam — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the James K Polk home. We toured along with a family of three. Our tour guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. I am a US President Nerd! She described each artifact and its significance as she led us through the history journey. We peppered her with questions which she thoughtfully answered. The A/C kept us comfortable as the temp outside was above 100. Our tour guide kindly stayed after the tour concluded in order to chat with my husband and I. We loved the opportunity to talk about James K Polk with her. He has a compelling personal history as well as presidential significance.
Lori S — Google review
The museum is a beautifully preserved home and it has plenty of interesting information about president Polk and his wife. Polk’s life and his presidency made him one of the most influential presidents in the history of the country. The visit was the most enjoyable mainly because of the very knowledgeable guide, Olivia. She told the story of the house and Polk’s legacy in a very easy to understand manner. It was fascinating. If you’re in the area, you need to stop by and visit this museum.
J T — Google review
The tour guides themselves were the highlights of the tour. A wonderful married couple from the area. Polks house was nice but in need of some tlc. It's a shame this isn't part of the national park service. Learned some interesting facts about James and Sara Polk and inadvertently about Mules...

Very interesting and the docents/your guides are very knowledgeable and so a great job representing the legacy of the Polk family in Tennessee and US politics.

While visiting the beautiful town of Columbia, I happened on a sign for the President James K. Polk Home and Museum. I visited after work and, while still open, I decided it probably wasn't enough time to take the full tour. But, there was a sign that I could walk around the beautiful back gardens and the exterior of the home for FREE! It really is a great home with a lot of history. There were plenty of historic markers to read about the home and the presidency of James K. Polk. I learned quite a lot just from walking around the exterior. There was a detached kitchen that was open where there was information about the cooks and other enslaved people who served the house. The entire experience was educational and worth the visit. I am hoping to return some day when I have more time so I can take the complete tour.

Great place with great owners and staff. A wonderful place (weather permitting) to sit and relax outside to enjoy good music, wine and food! Our B&B owners at Fall Hollow recommended we visit Amber Falls during our vacation and I am so glad we listened! The entrance to Amber Falls is beautiful with the grape vines lined up along the road. The guest cottage looks adorable. The wines we tasted were all very good, but my favorite was the peach wine with tea (it comes premixed). It was so delicious and refreshing. We visited here for my sons to try out their new RC car. They loved the little track. There is also a playground & mountain bike trail that we did not stop at. Awesome park. Fun bike trail for all levels. Really cool bike maintenance station. Lots of activities for the family. Be careful of drivers they tend to go fast. Great location for hiking and riding bikes. Look for a new park to explore this might be a great option. Don’t forget to bring the helmet!!

There are 9.25 miles of bike trails offering levels from beginner to advanced. There is also a pump track (dirt) with beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. The trails have features that are maintained and add a little bost of adrenaline throughout your ride. In addition to the bike trails, there is an RC track for RC car enthusiasts, a drone obstacle course, picnic shelters for events, a playground, and a boat ramp for access to the Duck River. There is plenty to do here, and it is definitely a hidden gem in the community.

With themed rotating temporary exhibits, there's always something new to discover. This museum aims to inspire exploration of arts and science while providing educational opportunities for children through interactive displays.
Great place for 2_8 years old. And you can get the annual pass with great price because kids this age don't mind to repeat activities/ games. Plus there are plenty of activities and games for them to switch out. It is 20 min drive for us so each time we go, we spend average about 1_2 hrs, but it can easier go from 4_6 hours long. They don't have food court so I would said 4hrs. The set up upstairs change frequently, so there will be new things to play.

Our first time at the Discovery Center, and we will definitely be back. The staff was very welcoming and helped us purchase tickets at the door. There was so much for the children to do, but it was presented in a great way - not overstimulating. Art, music, dramatic play, water .. and more! The kids' favorite part was the slide going from the top floor down to the bottom. Outside, the trails were beautiful, and we were able to see a variety of animals.

Fantastic! I loved how all the exhibits were interactive and fun! My three year old had so much fun we bought a membership! Now not a week goes by the we haven’t visited at least twice! 🤣❤️

The museum is free entry during special events like Hispanic day! It's great for kids and families to explore and interact with the many displays and activities they have, scattered across the first floor. The employees here are very kind, and present in activity areas so kids are guaranteed under supervision at all times. It can get very noisy and chaotic, which is expected in a place full of children - but nonetheless, I recommend visiting the Discovery Center.

As always my kids have a great time. I know I enjoy the fact that they changed the exhibit fairly often. I do wish they had seating for taller people. My husband is very tall and there’s really no seating for him except for outside. Everything‘s very low, which I understand. It is a kid museum, but when the kids are drawing or their excavating dinosaurs, it would still be kind of nice to be able to sit down.

We had an amazing time at this children’s museum! There are two full levels packed with fun, interactive activities for kids of all ages. From hands-on pretend play areas to engaging story times! One of the highlights was getting to see and even pet a live snake—such a cool experience for our toddler. The outdoor area was also a huge hit with our family, especially the kid-sized outdoor kitchen and the mini waterfalls where we spotted a few fish. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed to spark creativity and curiosity.

First time going with my child's school. Great place for kids to play around and learn new things. The staff was amazing also and very friendly. They also have a sensory chill zone, (which was needed for my autistic child). She calmed down with in 15 minutes in that room which is great for her. Thank you all so much. We will definitely be back.

This is a great place to visit, to step back in time. We loved the garage with the old cars and gas pumps. The whole place was great and everyone working there is so nice.

Cannonsburgh village is a charming little place with a lot of history to offer. One of the highlights of the village is the telephone switchboard in one of the cabins, complete with a bed for the operator to connect people to one another. It's a fascinating glimpse into how communication used to work in the past. The village also features a Grismill and offers a nice little walk through history. I also enjoyed the old tractors that are also on display in the village. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Cannonsburgh is a hidden gem; a great place to visit and reflect on early years of Murfreesboro and Rutherford Co. I look forward to taking our grandchildren to visit. Very nice visitor's center and staff.

This village is well worth the trip. The site is very interesting. The grounds are well kept and clean. The folks running the place couldn't be more welcoming and friendly. Also very informative on the history of the site. Would highly recommend. They are also planning on expanding their museums by next year.

Gotta love the random gems you find in Tennessee haha. This little town was so fun to visit. We went on a Saturday in the later afternoon and it wasn't crowded with people. We got to enjoy the village and take our time. It was fun to get to learn about and explore life in a different time. It was free too so that's a plus! Great find for a family outing.

Greenway Arts Festival was nice. First time we had been to Cannonsburgh in years. Last time we tried to take the trail over there, there were homeless people hanging out all along the way. One group in one of the tunnels had dogs. So, that had kept me away from the village for a while. This event was nice.

Such a beautiful place and grounds as well as friendly staff. My husband and I attended one of their flashlight night tours in October and it was so much fun (as well as informative) for my spooky and all-thinga-weird loving heart! We saw the Tempest here at the outdoor theater. It’s honestly a hidden gem. Tucker away from the heart of the downtown Mufreesboro off the beaten path. It has mature trees, hidden theatre, beautiful flowers, and a picture book surroundings.

Excellent place to go to get some history on. Even better place to take the family and just enjoy the huge property and have some lunch. Or you can join one of the many things they put on regularly. Like the October they had a clue night with drinks food and prizes and Octoberfest that sells out pretty fast.

Beautiful grounds. Beautiful house. The person who brought us into the home was very nice and primarily presented a short history of a black slave and his family pictures. Also , some history on construction. The information concerning rhe original owner, we had to read about in the halls and online. Would love more of a balanced history of the grounds. The good and the bad so we can learn from history. They are setting up a pride drag festival right outside the front door today... disappointed. When is the heterosexual festival?? Again, beautiful grounds I wish I could say more positive.

Wow, this place is such an interesting time capsule! The history of the house, its owners and the grounds is fascinating. Apparently, there is also an almost complete collection of every native TN tree on the lovely grounds, with the exception of one or two lost in a tornado. A must see in middle TN

For years Oakland Mansion has hosted high quality events at their beautiful venue. The staff is always professional and kind. James Manning has also taken great care to tell the history of the site and brought forth the stories and voices of the enslaved persons who lived there. It is the gem of our downtown area and the perfect place for events, walking or a picnic.

Guided tours provide insightful narratives about significant events that unfolded here, particularly those related to the enslaved individuals who lived in this tumultuous time. The ongoing restoration efforts add an intriguing layer to your visit, allowing you to witness history being preserved for future generations.
Enjoyed a great tour of Rippa Villa in Spring Hill, TN. House is slowly been restored and had some furniture. Grounds are lovely. Be sure and drive to see the cemetery and other buildings. Love that the shop had a large selection of books. This is part of the Battle of Franklin Trust. You can also visit Carnton and Carter House.

It is worth the journey to partake in this remarkable and impactful experience. Our tour guide, Jeff, demonstrated extensive knowledge and maintained our engagement, making us eager to learn about all that transpired on this plantation in Spring Hills, TN. We visited on Friday, 10-3-2025. Great job and thank you from Montana!

We toured Rippavilla in 2019 and it was amazing! Best tour we've ever taken and we've taken a lot! The guides were knowledgeable and engaged in the subject, talking specifically about the house, the people who lived there, and about the surrounding area. The Battle of Franklin was mentioned as was slavery because they are a part of the history of the house but they weren't the only focus. We took the tour again on Monday and the tour was terrible! The only reason I'm not giving it one star is because our guide and the gift shop gal were nice but that's the only thing it's got going for it. The house is gutted (given it's going through renovations) but there are maybe 5 pieces of furniture in the whole place. When I asked what furniture from before would be back in again after renovations I was told nothing. I asked at another museum that had pieces that we recognized from Rippavilla what happened and we were told the family and everyone who had leant pieces took them back because they didn't want to be associated with the Battle of Franklin Trust that is now in charge. Another guide on another tour confirmed it. They have an agenda behind what they are doing to this beautiful place and it's obvious which is sad. Photos attached are of how it used to look.

Beautiful house, still a work in progress to return to mostly original condition. Our guide, Jennifer, did an outstanding job explaining the history of the family and events surrounding the area. She grew up in the area and has personal connection to the history of the area. Very entertaining tour. Be sure to drive to the cemeteries for the family and slaves. A bleak time in the history of our country. We purchased combo tickets for tours of three homes, Rippa Villa, Carnton House and Carter House.

Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro is a 570-acre historic park and cemetery that marks the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Visitors can explore marked trails, visit the visitor center, and take self-guided tours with maps available at the center. Free guided tours are also offered on weekends, including ranger-led walks or car caravan drives through the vast battlefield. For a unique experience, visitors can join Saturday morning bicycle tours during summer and early fall.
Pretty immersive experience. I can clearly see how the landscape would give an advantage in battle. Especially around the "Slaughter Pen" area. I expected a lot less and ended up spending almost three hours touring the multiple exhibits and using the phone guide system. There are 5 designated stops for parking and touring and multiple trails that are marked and clear. Ticks are out in abundance today but other than that this was a great little history buffer.

Nice piece of history here. I always enjoy learning about these places and arrived as they were starting a reenactment. Nice little museum and gift shop. There is also the cemetery across the street that is quite humbling in my opinion. Check it out sometime!!

Nice (somewhat interactive) museum, super friendly and knowledgeable staff, there’s a short video clip to watch that explains the story of the grounds, and there are trails to explore the property. Some (walking) paths are dirt while others are (drivable) paved. I did not utilize it but there is also audio along the driven tour.
Terah L — Google review
This place has it all! You can dial on your phone and listen to a narrative of each of the areas that are clearly marked with a number and you get to hear the story of what happened at that area...... battlefields , cannons, unusually shaped stone walls within a forest where people fought and died, a visitor center with helpful workers and a gift shop. They had information on my relative who fought in that battle. There's also a large cemetery across the street of the soldiers who didn't make it through the battle.

Very nice visitor center and very informative attendees. Cost is free. You can drive or walk the main tour. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

What a beautiful battlefield. When you look at the historical significance it might be hard to fathom what happened here. Thousands of men lost their lives fighting for something they believed in. The grounds are well kept and very organized. The route is drivable with parking set at the different spots. Many opportunities to explore and take pictures. Immerse yourself in Americas history

Arrington Vineyards

Food & Drink
Sprawling, tranquil fields with hillside picnicking, wine by the bottle or flight, frosé & snacks.
We had an amazing visit at the Arrington winery. We booked a wine tasting with “Dr.” Todd. He was very knowledgeable and very insightful about the wines and processes. He was extremely funny and personable with our girls group. Would recommend visiting and requesting doctor Todd. The area was beautiful and well maintained. Lots to do. Make sure you bring a big blanket or lawn chairs. And depending on the season, you might even want to bring a portable fan. We were just in time to listen to live music and test out the food trucks. They even had a book truck that you could purchase a book and go out lay on a blanket or a chair or a Picnic table and enjoy the sun and read. Love, love, love, Love!!!

Visited the vineyard winery over Mother’s Day weekend, and although it was busy (as expected), it was still such a lovely experience. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, even with the crowd. The food was absolutely delicious, and the wine was both tasty and fun to explore with different flights and pairings. The staff handled the busy day well, and everything felt organized. It was a great way to celebrate the weekend, definitely worth the visit, and I’d love to return on a quieter day too!

What a beautiful vineyard! I visited this weekend and it was more than I expected. I enjoyed the live jazz band while looking over the vineyard. The staff was amazing and helpful. I tried the wine flight of four tantalizing wines from sweet to dry. We brought a picnic basket filled with goodies and lawn chairs to enjoy our day here. I can't wait to visit again. Definitely a 10 out of 10. 🍇🍸

We happened to come to Franklin during a girls trip to Nashville and while in Franklin found this vineyard and decided to take a drive. Pulled up as a jazz band were playing. Got our wine and some snacks and settled in on a bench and enjoyed the sounds and views. Absolutely beautiful location! Loved the community feel it gives.

Amazing place to come with large groups, small gatherings of friends, or a cute picnic for two. There's stunning views of the vineyards and the rolling hills that surround it. The wine flights were great and they also offer private tastings led by the staff. There's a large hillside with picnic benches scattered across for tons of seating options. There's also a wooded area with string lights all over for a more private vibe. You could spend hours here or just a quick stop for a glass wine and continue with your evening.

Ok views. Scenes of hiways and houses. Great staff. No cold bucket for wine to keep white wines cool. Plastic cups no wine glasses. Pulled pork nacho ok at best . No cheese very little pork. Music supposed to start at 3. It’s 3:08. Nothing. White wine average. Overall just ok.

Friendly service. Wine tasting is at your leisure. I had the mixed wines, and my husband had the red wines. They were all good. We were told that the white wine grapes are sourced from Tennessee whereas the red wine grapes come from Washington. Beautiful property.

The grounds were very pretty! We especially loved the tree covered area with the wine barrels. Would have preferred the wine served in a glass instead of plastic, but that’s not a deal breaker. We got the wine flight and the peach frozé and both were very good! We were there Friday around noon and it was still very open with lots of available seating. The wildlife was also very friendly!

Great experience today, with Jeff as our guide! The tour was very informative and the Carnton house is curated very nicely. Fantastic experience and tour. Kristi was passionate, thorough, and so engaging. Carnton makes an effort to teach history in all its facets, without sugarcoating or shying away from difficult truths. They focus on telling whole human story here instead of getting too hung up on the antiques in the house or the politics of battle (though they can absolutely speak to both of those things, too) Highly recommended.

We did the plantation and battlefield tour and it was very interesting and informative. Our tour guide was Joseph and he did a fabulous job on taking a trip back in time and our group wasn’t very big but we marched a very short distance in linear formation across a small area of the battlefield and he was describing the tense moments being under a artillery barrage and me and my fiancée loved it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Amazing Tour at the Carter House Our tour of the Carter House with Willie as our guide was absolutely outstanding. From start to finish, he delivered a thoughtful, thorough, and engaging experience that truly brought the history of the Battle of Franklin to life. Willie has a gift for storytelling—he didn’t just recite facts, he gave context, perspective, and emotion that helped us better understand both the battle itself and the human cost behind it. His passion for the subject was clear, and his knowledge was impressive without ever feeling overwhelming. The way he tied the history of the house, the grounds, and the people who lived through that time together made the tour not just informative, but deeply meaningful. We walked away with a much greater appreciation for the site and the history it preserves. 👉 If you’re visiting the Carter House, ask for Willie. You’ll leave with more than just facts—you’ll leave with a story you’ll never forget.

Since we moved to the Nashville area, we were planning to visit these historic sites. IT didn't happen right away, but when you expect the least it happened. Being at right place at the right time, just at the time when the expanded tour was starting, is pure luck. It was fascinating to listen to a tour guide delivering all these historic details. Facts about historic events happened just about in our neighborhood. I wish that our Docent was more storyteller than straight fact delivery. Excellent news is that the historic site is expanding, acquiring more land. It's the place to see Franklin.

The Lotz House Museum is a stately Civil War-era house located in downtown Franklin, offering guided tours that provide insight into American history through antiques and art. The museum's tour is particularly engaging for children aged 10 and up, as it tells the riveting story of a family who lived in the house during the Battle of Franklin. This immersive experience allows kids to empathize with the children who witnessed the historic events, providing a unique perspective on this significant period in American history.
Our visit to the Lotz House in Franklin, TN was nothing short of extraordinary. We knew we would enjoy learning about the local history, but we did not expect to be so deeply moved — or to leave feeling like we had stepped through time with fresh understanding. A huge part of what made our experience so meaningful was our guide, Chuck. His knowledge, warmth, and ability to bring the human stories behind the history to life was remarkable. We were especially thrilled to discover that we could converse with him not only in English, but also in German and French — what an unexpected delight! It added a personal connection that made the tour even more engaging. What stood out most was the balanced and thoughtful narrative presented throughout the tour. In a time when so many historical sites can lean toward one interpretation or another, the Lotz House honored all sides of the conflict with sensitivity and respect. The story of the Lotz family and the harrowing events of the Battle of Franklin were shared in a way that acknowledged the complexity of the past — not glorifying, not erasing, but helping us see the humanity of those involved, then and now. We left with a deeper appreciation not only for this beautiful and historic home, but for the lessons it offers us today. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Franklin — and if you get Chuck as your guide, you are in for a true treat!

This is one of the best historical tours I have ever been on! My husband and I took our tween boys, who went begrudgingly. Our tour guide was so good that he quickly had them fully engrossed! The home is beautiful, extremely interesting, and full of history of course! We especially enjoyed the original paintings by Matilda Lotz, and were able to purchase a very nice print of one of those works in the gift shop. I will close by admitting my husband is difficult to impress, but he loved this tour! Don’t sleep on this one, just go!

Evan was our guide, he was extremely knowledgeable and has a great energy. You can tell he really cares about the history of this home, family and town. I would highly recommend a tour of this home should you find yourself in this area. War buff or not, this is a one of a kind experience.

Nature & Parks
Warner Parks, comprising Edwin and Percy Warner Parks, are the largest municipally administered green space in Tennessee, covering over 3,100 acres. Just nine miles from downtown Nashville, these parks offer a wide range of activities for visitors. From free nature classes to historical landmarks and hiking trails spanning 12 miles, there's something for everyone. Additionally, horseback riding is available on the 10-mile riding trails (visitors must bring their own horses).
Great hugely spread out park off of Highway 100 south west of downtown Nashville. Lots of picnic tables and spots doting throughout the park and the one these pics are from is the Little Harpeth River Pavilions. Whenever I'm in the Nashville area I think of all the memories of enjoying the great hiking trails and streams that are dog & pet friendly. A must stop for me every time!

Percy Warner Parks is one of the most iconic spots for Nashville Flying Dress photography, making it a top choice for Fly Girls to defy gravity in stunning style. Known as one of the best things to do in Nashville, the park’s sweeping overlooks, stone staircases, and lush landscapes create breathtaking backdrops for unforgettable images. Whether you’re exploring Nashville attractions or booking a flying dress photo shoot, this park delivers the perfect mix of nature and elegance. Nice large park with lots of trails both paved and off-road.

This park has hiking desirable for all ages and skill levels. From paved rolling hills, to dirt and rock paths with steep climbs, and switch backs. This park offers green lush forestry and beautiful overlooks to satisfy all your nature needs and just a quick drive from downtown Nashville. Dogs 🐕 are also welcome on this trail system, so bring your furry loved one and make a day of it. Plenty of benches along the way for a short rest if you or your pet becomes fatigued. There's plenty of shade with the thick dense woods, so even on them hot summer days these trails can be an enjoyable afternoon experience.

When I was living in Nashville last year, this was always an amazing park to visit for some nature therapy. Miles of beautiful woods and well-maintained trails. I spent countless hours just meandering around and often disregarding the original route I intended to take. Perfect place for some solitude or a stroll in the woods with friends or family.

The building is just as beautiful as the stories told. You can enjoy a short, informative movie and look at all the memorabilia on display. You can also see the "one piece at a time" car when available. This is a must-see for country music lovers!!!

Was a great experience. Felt like going to see your grandparents and hear all their story’s. Owners and guide were super friendly and the property is beautiful. A must see of any country music fans. And we made new friends there.

Wow! What a neat, one of a kind tour! It is off the beaten path but well worth the drive! We got to see Johnny Cash memorabilia that is no where else but the best part was our tour guides, Dylan, from the museum part and Christi from the home part. ( There are two different parts of the tour: the museum down the road and the actual home. ) They were awesome and told many interesting stories and were so nice. Would highly recommend! We sure enjoyed it!

A humble abode of Johnny Cash. A lovely retreat to get away from the crowds. Docents are very excited to tell all about the place and about Johnny. They are very inviting to allow you to go through a narrated tour, look around on your own, or both. Plan on an hour minimum. Plan on more if you want to have a picnic or just sit back and enjoy like Johnny did.

Fantastic place. A must visit. Staff were so super friendly. Got to meet Johnny cash's nephew and see the one piece at a time car which was amazing. Pup friendly. My dog and I stayed as part of the harvest hosts program. Super quiet at night as it's a gated property. And def hit the gift shop and purchased a few t-shirts 👍👍 two thumbs up and 5 stars from me. Will def visit again.

If anyone plans to visit Nashville TN, this destination HAS to be on your to see list. The museum has many hands on things to see and interact with. Johnny Cash’s family entertain at different times and are some of the best entertainers I’ve ever met ... and personable!!! The owners, the Oxley’s, are by far some of the kindest, most amazing people I’ve been met. They both have a love in them that just flows; and they glow outwardly because of it. I’m in awe of them!!! This will be one of the most memorable places you have ever visited!!! You will make friends and memories that will last a lifetime!

The best decision we made, was going to the storytellers museum, and farm. The nephew of Johnny Cash was our tour guide! Mark! You are amazing! He sang to us, told stories, and I got to soak up all of the things about the man in black. Just when I thought my day couldn’t get any better we headed down to the farm, Johnny cash’s private escape he owned. Where we spent the afternoon visiting with Sally, and Brian. What we thought would be a 2-3 tour turned into a 5 hour walk back in time, stories, and me leaving with a deeper understanding the roots of the Cash family! If you are in Nashville, this is a MUST do! For anyone!

THE BEST EXPERIENCE! My husband and I brought our 17 yr old daughter and 20 yr old son to the Storyteller’s Farm (our son is a MASSIVE Johnny Cash fan). In short, we came away completely impressed by the property, the memorabilia, and the stories! It truly feels like you’re stepping into grandma and grandpa’s house - authentic, unpretentious, super cozy, but oozing with the spirit of Johnny, June, and their families! It actually feels like you’re just waiting for them to show up from being out of town - it’s nearly indescribable! The owners of the property were out of town, but their friends, Patsy and Rodney, welcomed us in their stead and were incredibly hospitable! I’m telling you, it felt like we were visiting old friends - they were so warm, welcoming, and kind! We were given a generous tour with ample time in the home, the garage, and on the property! My favorite experience was our time with Mark (Mark Alan Cash is Johnny’s nephew). He spoiled us with family stories, personal reflections, and a private concert that not only honored his uncle, but also showcased his own music (my personal request)! Our family was incredibly touched by his transparency, sincere love of family, and approachable demeanor. I can’t say enough good things about him, but I highly recommend buying his CD/t-shirt and paying for ticket if he’s ever singin’ in your town! I wish more people knew about this little slice of heaven Johnny called, “the center of my universe!” It is a gorgeous piece of property with magical landscapes that could mesmerize the most cynical person. No matter how you feel about country music or Johnny Cash, you’ll walk away from this experience humbled and grateful - we sure did!

Nature & Parks
Montgomery Bell State Park is a true gem for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. This expansive park offers a delightful mix of activities, from scenic walking trails to serene lakes, making it an ideal spot for a day of exploration. You can choose from various hiking paths, including shorter options near the visitor center for those looking for a quick stroll. Wildlife abounds here; visitors often encounter deer roaming freely and may even catch sight of beavers near the bridges connecting different areas of the park.
We had a great visit. We had our family reunion here and wow, that the staff and a facility treat us. Well, we were very humble by there. Due diligence of how things were up being handled and humbled by there. Generosity, so thank you to the staff on the Montgomery bell state park. Facility a ton of things to do a ton of trails to walk. We were very pleased with our room. The cleanliness, the hotel was just a plus parking was great and plentiful. There's a small beach. What surprised me? The kids really enjoyed it. Not my kids, but I saw other kids. There My kids are grown, but they probably still would enjoy it. And the sand was white. It's a white sandy beach. Small area to swim, though. So I don't think you're going to, you know, come there and swim like in the oceans or Olympic pool or anything. Just basically just to cool off, then lay back on the beach. It was more for little kids than anything. I'll just come out and say it. But the kayaks, roboats, paddle boards, no motorized vehicle, of course. A lot of picnic areas, and you can barbecue. All in all it was, we had a great time. Total recommendation.

Very helpful and friendly staff at the gift shop. There was also a ranger and she helped me answer my questions. I reached at 4 and it is their closing time. They still talked and answered my questions patiently. It is nice park but Lake wodhaven did not have water flowing. That is what I went there for. It has restaurant on site as well. I will visit again once we have water flowing through the stairs.

Our son and daughter-in-law were married here a week ago and Rachel, Shawn, Tina, Amber, and Courtney made this a wonderful weekend! They were so sweet and constantly checked in with us to make sure every detail was taken care of and greeted any guest with welcome arms. Rachel was there the entire weekend making sure we were happy and we can’t say enough about this wonderful individual who is so upbeat, fun, detailed oriented, and has a heart to serve. It was really a blessing to have their wedding at this park! It was so nice to have all the guest at the hotel, and their food, bar, trails, and outdoor activities made it wonderful. All our guest loved the welcome & karaoke party on Friday night then Saturday to do activities at the park and then the wedding on Saturday evening. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Montgomery Bell as it was a beautiful and fun wedding!

It is a beautiful state park that you should check out and enjoy. Montgomery Bell is just another gem of the state of Tennessee. Nice hiking trails, nice little beach swim area which has rental paddle boats and boards, canoes and other rentals. The swim area has an in water volleyball area (you are able to rent volleyball's as well) prices where $20 an hour for boats (again, paddle and canoe) staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. Great service! There are cabins, camp areas and a beautiful lodge on property as well. I hope you enjoy this park.

Beautiful trails and park. Super fun to run and hike. Most of the other hikers were considerate too, one person who didn't pick up after their dog. Family friendly and a lot of fishers too. Great place! Car was safe.
