Wow! I wished I knew about this little gem before! Any time of day any time of year this Is one of those places that never gets old no matter what season it i.. there areall types of stuff in here, I don't think you wouldn't be able to see everything they have if you spent all day here. Now I understand why it's called a general store It is so old timey and so unique I think this may be my favorite place in downtown Athens highly recommend go check it out it's an amazing place!! And the coffee and treat are delicious
Kristin M — Google review
Very cutesy store with cute nicknacks and classic /vintage candy selections. They have an impressive selection of chocolates and amazing mouthwatering truffles. I really recommend the key lime truffle. It literally tastes like key lime pie. Overall we thought the old novelty store aesthetic was so adorable and we left with like $40 worth of candy. Overall we were very happy with our experience.
Kate W — Google review
Great store with good selection. The candy looked amazing! I love that it’s just like an old store! The employees were really nice!
GF T — Google review
UG White Mercantile is a true Athens staple—full of charm, history, and one-of-a-kind finds. Whether you’re shopping for gifts or just browsing, it’s always a fun experience. We’re proud to have this gem in our downtown!
Innovative S — Google review
This is such a cool store! Lots of interesting things here, including old fashioned candy, soda, a coffee cafe/bar, teas, decor. Definitely a fun place to stop and browse!
Rebecca K — Google review
Very cute! We had fun just browsing. All kinds of gifts whether for someone else or for yourself! Kitchen items, jams, sauces, knives, toys, candies, t-shirts… the list goes on! I’m sure at one point (opened in 1917), it was more of a hardware/furniture store, but at this point in time, expect lots of goodies.
The T — Google review
Pocket knives and sundrop in glass bottles, and if you are looking for something special come check out U G whites store Old Fashioned candy too! Friendly staff
Audrey V — Google review
UG Whites claims to be a hardware store, but its more of a massive southern activity factory for the whole family, woth hard-to-find items such as rare candy, model trains, and more. The atmosphere remimds me, at least, of a combination of a log cabin and my grandmother's house. The employees are nice, as always, and the prices could be better, but for what you find, it's barely an issue. Overall, 9/10, will go again, probably as a part of the Christmas Open House.

Water & Amusement Parks
Point Mallard Park is a sprawling 750-acre family park located in North Alabama, offering a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages. From golf and tennis to hiking, biking, and camping, the park provides numerous opportunities to connect with nature. The highlight of the park is the famous Point Mallard Water Park, featuring America's first wave pool along with slides, a sky pond, sandy beach, kids zone, and lagoon.
Very beautiful area! Our entire family of 13 had so much fun! Can't wait to go again!!
Mahealani M — Google review
The park itself is nice. Often times there are too many people inside at once which leads to a large pool that has zero room. The lifeguards blow whistles every 2 mins with little to no direction. They had to jump in to save someone today all because they allowed too many people to jump off diving board at one time and the person had to wait in deep end while others were using same ladder. If you catch it on a slower day it’s great. Bring water shoes. The walk to rides is brutal on feet in the heat.
James S — Google review
My fiance and I took our kids and neice yesterday! We had a blast on the slides and in the pools. The pizza was pretty good too. Fun for all ages!
Kristan K — Google review
First timer….very happy with the slow river ride…all the areas of water covered every age group and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the whole experience…would recommend highly!!
Lisa S — Google review
A great family friendly water park! The rides are great! I wish they sold Point Mallard fridge magnets. I would love to come back here to camp!
Georgia F — Google review
Clean and well maintained! The scenery was so beautiful with the water park being along the river! I was worried it would be too spread out and a lot of walking but it really wasn’t. It wasn’t over crowded and we were able to find chairs in each area. Our family of 5 (kids ages 6-11) had a blast!!
Laura V — Google review
Our family had the best day here! Reasonable pricing, military & veteran discounts. Water fun for ALL ages. Wasn't overcrowded and the lifeguards were extremely helpful and watchful of all the children. We will definitely be coming back.
Krista Y — Google review
It seemed run down in several areas. Not what i remembered! But the hot air balloon event was cool! Beautiful, colorful balloons! All the vendors were pretty expensive though! A good variety of different foods!

The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts. Spanning 35,000 acres along the Tennessee River, this refuge provides a vital habitat for endangered wildlife and offers various outdoor activities such as birdwatching, hiking, and fishing. Established in 1938, it is jointly administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.
Our family decided to take a short trip to come and see the cranes! They are passing through here until February from the Great Lakes on their way further south. We loved getting to observe this phenomenon in person and the staff at the visitor center were kind and helpful.
Kaitlin S — Google review
Nice place to visit and learn about the natural area and animals/birds that share it with us. Short video that shows how the refuge came to be and how it protects the ecosystems and animals that live in it.
Bert — Google review
This is such a cool place to visit and the staff were so nice. Definitely come out during spring and summer to see all the wildlife.
Tamara — Google review
Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge is an amazing place to explore nature! We had a blast off-roading on the truck trail near the river—beautiful views and such a peaceful spot. The mature trails were great for hiking and spotting wildlife. It’s perfect for nature walks, birdwatching, or just getting some fresh air. There are also some great picnic spots tucked away throughout the refuge. Definitely recommend bringing lunch and taking your time! And don’t skip the visitor center—it’s super informative and adds to the experience. We loved every minute of it. Can’t wait to come back!
Mr. E — Google review
Walking trail off the interstate was a real nice break from driving. Greatful it exists. Swamp was dry but there was water in the creek at the end of the trail. Enjoyed seeing the bugs and the pawpaw bushes amongst the mature trees.
Jim K — Google review
Very nice place, great for bird watching, easy thails, dog friendly and free to visit.
Kaja S — Google review
Lots of trails & general wildlife (birds/insects/etc). It's more active in the winter. Yes, gators in the water but not like Florida. Just something to keep in mind. Information center has clean restrooms & lots of info.
Mo S — Google review
I absolutely love this place, crane season is wonderful but there is always a lot of wildlife to see, lots of birds. A great place for the family to visit and plenty of walking trails either at the building or very close by

Great little muesm. A hidden gem. He was such an important part of history and deserves to be remembered. This is well put together and is at his birth place. If in the area stop by.
Brian J — Google review
We recently visited the Jesse Owens Museum in Oakville, Alabama. My father in law has been a fan for years, and my 8 year old daughter recently read a library book about Jesse Owens and just had to visit the museum. The exhibits are thoughtfully done and bring Jesse’s incredible story to life, from his humble beginnings in Alabama to his historic Olympic victories. The outdoor area showing the replica of Jesse’s childhood home was a powerful reminder of how far he came. The museum is small but packed with history, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. It's an inspiring stop for both kids and adults!
BETH D — Google review
This museum closes at 4 pm. I recommend giving yourself two hours, if possible to get the full benefit of the tour. We viewed an exceptional movie narrated by Jesse Owens himself about the Olympic Games in 1936 in Nazi Germany where he won four gold medals. There were several displays detailing Jesse’s life from childhood through to later life when he advocated globally for the role of sport in race relations. The museum is situated in a large park, surrounded by farms, once the site of his family’s sharecropper cabin. A replica of the three room cabin, where Jesse and his nine brothers and sisters lived with his parents, is also part of the tour. Our docent, Karen, was friendly, welcoming, and informative. A truly educational and inspiring museum! Highly recommended.
Merry S — Google review
We were a group of 16 and had an absolutely wonderful experience!!! Teague was our host and is extremely knowledgeable about Jesse Owens’ life!!! The movie, “Return to Berlin” captured our attention, as we saw and heard Mr. Owens himself!!! He was not only an awesome athlete, he was an outstanding spokesperson!!! Some of us will be back with those who couldn’t make the trip this time. Thank you so much for creating this tribute and legacy!!!
Debra S — Google review
Such a cool place and history we have here in north Alabama!! It’s nothing big but it leave an impression, how simple times were and what and where he came from !
Rachelle G — Google review
My granddaughter and I visited Jesse Owens Museum. Very informative and interesting. It chronicles his life from humble beginnings in Oakville to Ohio State to Berlin and life after winning 4 Gold Medals. We highly recommend this museum and park for everyone.
Emily M — Google review
This was a great day trip! I had no idea it was here. That's a real shame bc its a wonderful, well-kept tribute to a true American hero. I learned a great deal about Mr. Owens while visiting this museum. I was inspired by his accomplishments in athletics as well as just being a honorable person.
Luan B — Google review
Visited the museum on a day trip recently. It’s off the beaten path but if you can take the time well worth it. It is small but a great tribute to this historic athlete. Be sure and see the video presentation of Jesse Owens and his amazing accomplishments. Great job Oakville.

The trail is perfect for new hikers and families, with rest areas, a pavilion, and picnic spots along the way. The park features a covered bridge, old log cabin, wooden chapel, fairy treehouses, a wishing well, and small waterfalls to explore.
Great little nature walk, especially in the fall when you can find a covered bridge and the leaves are changing. There's also a lot of stuff to see on your walk. It's neat to find all the little places. It's a loop so it's not hard to do in under an hour but do it at your leisure.
Ryan B — Google review
Such a beautiful place! I would love to come back during Fall when the leaves turn colors😍
Crystal T — Google review
Loved this little hike. Gravel trail around lake, bathrooms, venue, historic markers and we saw a buck!

I didn’t know this Beautiful Nature Trail was so close to were I live. I took my dad, he was visiting me from Puerto Rico and we had an amazing time. We didn’t walk too much on the trails but I’m definitely going back prepared for it. The day was perfect! There’s picnic areas, restrooms are clean, they also have an area that my guess you can rent for birthdays party. I was so impressed of that beauty that Mother Nature offer us. I took so many pictures, I’m definitely going back.

Harmony Park Safari in Huntsville, AL is a federally licensed nature preserve where visitors can drive through a two-mile route to see exotic and endangered animals up close. The park is home to free-wandering animals from around the world, including antelope, zebras, camels, giraffes, and more. It's a great family-friendly activity that allows you to observe wildlife from the safety of your car.
Wonderful place. Our great granddaughter is two. We thought she would be afraid. She loved the animals. She didn't want to leave. This is a day trip worth taking.
Elaine C — Google review
Absolutely an experience! Had allot of feelings about this place but I can say it was really fun. I won't be going back because of the long horns scratching my car I buffed out what I could but it's not worth getting more. Also the long horns were very aggressive and the horns got a little too close for comfort once coming in the car window about half a foot from my passengers chest. Would love to do it again but the scratches from the long horns is not worth it. All that being said I'm glad I went because it was truly a real up close experience with exotic animals!
Asmond H — Google review
Had an awesome time here with the family. The kids loved feeding the animals. We're sorry It took us as long as it did to check this place out. We'd definitely recommend paying them a visit!
Jessica H — Google review
I took my daughters and their friend here for the first time and we had an awesome time. I definitely recommend checking it out. We fed the animals and even got to pet a few. With Covid, we weren’t allowed to get out of the car and explore but we still had a great time. The staff was super nice and explained everything when we arrived. I will be visiting again very soon.
Keyshia B — Google review
We visited the 4/5/21. We’ve always made this a priority stop when traveling because our family always has such a great time and the barrel of laughs that come when the animals put their head in your vehicle. It truly is priceless. However this trip was different. The young lady at the window when entering was rude. EXTREMELY disrespectful and downright rude. If she doesn’t like her job she should find a new one. We were totally bummed about not being able to get out and explore at the end and the animals looked terrible. A lot of them were under weight, missing large patches of hair and some even seemed to weak to even get up and come to our van. We’ve had many years of fun coming here, but afraid this year will have been our last.
Noodle H — Google review
So much fun!!! I loved that they let you drive around as many times as you'd like!!! My girls LOVED IT! If you buy food to feed the animals--prepare for your vehicle to get messy... It's all worth the clean out afterwards in my opinion. If you havea sunroof it's easier to feed the giraffe, the camel will take your cup of food, and the ostriches are hilarious eating out of your cup. So fun!!!
Holly W — Google review
Pretty cool place to visit. The animals are used to cars feeding them, so they will swarm your car and if your windows are down they will be all up in your car. Was hoping for more variety of animals, it's mostly deer and emu. There are some variants of cattle, a few miniature horses and a bunch of pigs. There is a giraffe, which is cool, but he stayed pretty close to his pen. The animals with horns/antlers did a great job of minding their closeness to the car. They got super close, but didn't have any issues with them scratching the paint (I was super worried about that.)
Leland G — Google review
Great Experience. If you are looking for a great quarantine friendly activity this is the one. We drove 2 hours and absolutely loved the safari. Price is 10.00 per person over 2 y/o and feed is 1.00 a cup. Bring cash cause they only accept cash or check. The animals are super friendly and very funny. I would recommend getting there early as we did sit in line for about 45 mins just to get in. You are able to go around as many times as you'd like so definitely worth the money.
Cai F — Google review
Amazing!!! It was so much fun! I think a little more emphasis should be placed on what the rules are instead of just being handed a piece of paper. We bought the bucket of food and had a great time! Only thing we would do differently is RENT one of their vehicles! The animals will jump on your car, slobber etc. Renting a car would have been less of a hassle. Also the camel is pretty aggressive so watch out for that.
Charlsey D — Google review
A bit smaller than expected, and with fewer animal types than we'd hoped. Still a nice time - lots of laughter, squeals of delight, and excitement. We didn't even have any kids with us on this trip yet still had fun. Definitely worth the price, even with slightly expensive animal feed. I mean, how often do you get to interact with llamas / alpacas, exotic deer big & small, cows and bulls with enormously long horns (red, long haired highland cattle & Ankole - Watusi breed)...And many others!?!

Ave Maria Grotto

Religious destination
Ave Maria Grotto, located on the grounds of Alabama's first and only Benedictine Abbey, is a 4-acre park featuring over 125 miniature reproductions of shrines, churches, and buildings. These intricate works were crafted by Benedictine Monk Brother Joseph Zoettl using materials donated from around the world such as broken marble, bathroom tile, colored glass, and more.
✨ A truly peaceful and inspiring day at Ave Maria Grotto 🙏 Located in a beautiful, serene setting, this holy place left a deep impression on me. Walking through the Mini Jerusalem and exploring the many detailed replicas of historical temples from around the world felt like a spiritual journey in itself. Every corner of the grotto tells a story and reflects faith, dedication, and history. It was such a meaningful visit — a day filled with reflection, admiration, and awe. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a spiritual or cultural experience 🌍⛪💫
Rana A — Google review
fantastic and unique space! I was very slow with my walk around the property as I was taking photos of the miniatures as well as the gorgeous nature. I was the only one there at that time which made it quiet and serene. There were people there working on keeping up on the maintenance of the spaces which was good to see. I will say that bug spray would have been smart, I got bit several times. The gift shop is also great if you are wanting some things with that feel.

A wonderful outdoor experience with miniature scenes carved into indigenous stone from religious and around the world. The creator and artist was truly talented beyond believe. A must see!

The Ave Maria Grotto is a testament to the incredible work of Brother Joseph Zoettl! Brother Joseph was a Benedictine monk from St. Bernard Abbey, and it’s one of the most amazing miniature works I’ve ever laid eyes on. The detail he poured into it over the year is truly magnificent!
Md A — Google review
An interesting place to visit. Make sure you watch the video in the gift shop before you take the tour. It is definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area. Make sure to visit the gift shop. The monks bake wonderful cookies.
Roderick P — Google review
I got there just 30 minutes before they closed for the day. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful miniatures. So much work, time, and talent obviously went into these.
Theresa S — Google review
I only had time to walk through the miniature displays but would have liked to have walked the grounds. I had my baby in a stroller and that is easy to navigate, however they do not allow wheelchairs. The miniatures were quite impressive. I probably spent less than 30 minutes here because I was only passing through. That’s plenty of time to see everything but you could walk through at a more leisurely pace. They have a senior discount of $8 which was nice! There’s also a gift shop.
Laura — Google review
The only problem with the grotto is that wheel chairs or walkers would be very difficult to use. There is a video to watch if you like.

Shrine of The Most Blessed Sacrament

All I can say is I didn't want to leave. Mother Angelica didn't spare a dime building this Shrine and the grounds in order to Glorify God. I felt like I was in Paradise. My wife and I also stayed at the Saint Joseph's Cottage house right down the beautiful street from the Shrine. Kevin the owner was absolutely wonderful to my wife and I. He went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. He'll treat you better than your family!
Enzo T — Google review
Beautiful architecture and artwork and artisan craftsmanship of various items. This place features a beauty that is often lacking in modern environments.
John M — Google review
If you are Catholic you need to visit this Sacred place... If you are not Catholic you need to visit this Sacred place. A beautiful place in Alabama where you can find peace to connect with our Lord and Savior. If you listen to EWTN radio then you will want to know that Mother Angelica's tomb is here as well. I went to the Festival of el Divino Niño and it was just a wonderful day.
Jose F — Google review
Beautiful campus hidden in the hills of Alabama dedicated to the worship of God. There is an hour long tour at 1030 to give you the high points, but please wander around after the 1130 midday prayers and rosary are over. There is a lot to see, and we didn't get to all of it in one trip.
Brandon D — Google review
A Heavenly and a spiritually edifying experience. I'm glad photos and video aren't allowed in the shrine-allowing one to immerse in the divide. I loved the multiple sites and shrines on the premises. The grounds are absolutely beautiful.
My C — Google review
Beautiful and spiritual convention and church. Definitely try to attend mass or prayers with the sisters.
Stephen H — Google review
The grounds are immaculate, the church is amazingly beautiful. There is a brother who takes people who are disabled up to the church. Plenty of parking. Dress code while in the church. Restrooms in the courtyard before the church steps. So much to see. Will be back
Kathleen G — Google review
Amazing place to come for a weekend retreat. The grounds are huge. There is a main church as well as a crypt church for masses. There's also separate area for adoration. There is a room with life size nativity scene with year round Christmas music. There's an outdoor station of the cross with the last station of Jesus on the cross that will send chills on your skin. There is a Eucharistic center with dedication to Pope John Paul. The architecture from outside to inside is just so detailed. You'll leave with a sense of peace and tranquility as well as a closeness to Jesus.

This was one of the neatest places we’ve been to in Alabama yet. You go over 174 feet drown into this cavern and the guide is so informative. We learned so much on this mile hike under ground it was by far the nearest hike yet I would love to do It again. There are some low spots and some tight fits where you have to turn sideways to get threw I had a small backpack and had to take it off a couple times to fit there is a pretty steep stairs doing down and back up is 110 steps straight up but over all amazing trail for family’s the kids had a blast.

Outstanding camping experience! Went on a big group trip here back in the Winter season and everything was perfect - great weather, beautiful nature, awesome caverns and exceptionally friendly & helpful staff. Had a minor issue with one of our reservations and they immediately issued a refund the next day. Our group also had a blast cooking out, telling stories and going on the cavern tour. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning!

July 26, 2023: Went by chance on our way back from an anniversary trip back in July. Fantastic staff, they were very accommodating & sweet. The place was beautiful & full of things to do. Enjoyed the cave tour & panhandling. Definitely recommend the big bucket if you love rocks & gems.

Thank you Hannah for the Befriending Bats cave tour experience! I learned some interesting facts about bats, saw a couple bats, heard some cave history highlights and got my steps in throughout the cave journey. Loads of fun! I highly recommend you check out Hannah’s upcoming activities!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five-Star Experience! We had a fantastic visit to the caverns! The customer service was wonderful from the very start. I called ahead with a few questions, and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and gave me accurate information. Their website was also fully up to date and matched everything we were told once we arrived, which I really appreciated. Our tour was scheduled for 12:00, and it started right on time. Our tour guide was amazing—full of energy, super informative, and kept everyone laughing with great jokes throughout the entire hour-long tour. You could tell she truly enjoyed what she does. The caverns themselves were beautiful and absolutely worth the visit. That said, I do want to offer a couple of helpful notes for future visitors that I didn’t see clearly emphasized online. There are a lot of steps—over 360—and some of them are surprisingly steep. The final climb (about 100 steps straight up) definitely had people catching their breath at the end. Also, there are several very tight spaces. I’m on the smaller side and even I felt a bit squeezed at times. If you’re claustrophobic or on the larger side, just be aware that some sections are narrow. Overall, though, the experience was wonderful. The tour was well-run, the caverns were stunning, and the staff was top-notch. Highly recommend this adventure—just be prepared for the stairs and tight spots!

Wonderland Under Warrior is a definite must see in Alabama around Christmas time. They deck out the cavern in Christmas lights and other decorations. It is super cool! Im sure the caverns are nice year round but I really wanted to brag on the Christmas display! Tickets are pretty affordable.

SAT 2025.10.18 ~06:30, the Entrance Gate of Rickwood Caverns S.P. wasn't open yet. A few minutes later, the Gate opened for a vehicle that was exiting, and i got in for my early morning walk of the Park trails (before going on to the reserved 10:00 Cave Tour). It was relatively quiet in the Park; a few Campers were out and about, and a Ranger too. ~07:15, i went for my ~3+ miles CW-Loop walk of the Trails. Please note the Closure of Moss Rock Connector Trail. The Trails were in good condition and well maintained; relatively peaceful and quiet, some bird singings .. No other person during the first ~1.5 miles, then a 4-person Jogging Team who i encountered 3 times; they were Loop-Jogging the Picnic Trail 👍🙃

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a powerful and dramatic museum that chronicles the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement through multimedia exhibits. Located near the 16th Street Baptist Church, it memorializes the heroes of the movement and showcases ongoing human rights history in the United States. As part of the Smithsonian museum group, it meets high curatorial standards and offers informative permanent exhibits, traveling exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, children's events, and more.
Nestled in the heart of Birmingham, this museum offers a poignant journey through the Civil Rights Movement, a visit that both uplifts and weighs heavy on the heart. As my partner and I walked through its thoughtfully curated exhibits, we felt the weight of the city's painful history—its stories of violence, oppression, and resilience echoing through the halls. The experience begins with a compelling eight-minute video, setting the tone for what lies ahead. From there, visitors are invited to meander through a carefully designed path, allowing for a personal exploration at one's own pace. Each room unfolds a rich tapestry of history, featuring a captivating mix of videos, photographs, and informational plaques that invite deeper reflection. Amidst the sadness, there are moments of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the strength of those who fought for justice. The museum is a space that encourages both contemplation and engagement, offering countless opportunities to see, touch, and photograph the artifacts of a struggle that shaped the nation. It’s a visit that is not only important but essential, leaving a lasting impact long after you step outside. You can enjoy a very colorful and change of pace art installation at the end. They had Day of the Dead while we visited and it was beautiful.

Worth the money! Brought back memories of what i learned in grade school. Also a somber reminder of the things people went through to where we are today. I am very appreciative of the new knowledge gained. I think it’s important for Americans to know this history because it’s American history. Progress and Growth. Cheap street parking out front! Also across the street from the church Martin Luther King preached!

I took a day trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Alabama, and it was truly a moving and educational experience. The museum chronicles the civil rights movement in the Deep South, highlighting the courageous actions of individuals who fought against inequality and stood for justice and equal rights. Though the building shows its age in places, the exhibits are impactful and thoughtfully curated. One of the most striking displays contrasts the educational environments of Black and white children, providing a powerful visual representation of systemic injustice. Other exhibits recreate settings like a segregated restaurant and public transportation, offering a sobering look at everyday life during that era. The museum also pays tribute to many key leaders of the civil rights movement, sharing their stories, struggles, and enduring legacies. During my visit, I was fortunate to see a special quilt exhibit, which added a unique and artistic perspective to the narrative of resistance and hope. Admission is under $25, making it an accessible experience, and there is a small gift shop on site. While the merchandise selection is limited, it includes a few books and souvenirs that reflect the museum’s themes. If you’re in Birmingham, this is absolutely a must-visit. It’s an important stop not only for personal reflection but also for educating the next generation about the sacrifices made for the rights many of us now take for granted. The experience is both humbling and inspiring—definitely one to put on your list.

Great to learn the history of the Civil Rights movement here. Also gives a good overview of how this movement inspired others around the world. And to remind us to not stop marching.

Wonderful and informative museum! We’re from Kentucky, so it was great to learn more about the history and formation of Birmingham, especially leading up to the Civil Rights Movement. The exhibits were very well put together — powerful, moving, and at times heartbreaking. If you’re in the area, this is definitely a must-visit!

This was my first visit to the museum in 8 years and much of the exhibits remained unchanged. I was disappointed in the movie compared to the last visit when it was in the auditorium. The new movie was shorter, language was more appropriate and not as comprehensive. The staff was friendly and helpful and answered my questions and definitely worth the admission price. There's so much to see in this museum and thoroughly enjoyed the contributions of AG Gaston and how much he loved Birmingham and his success as an entrepreneur. I look forward to my next visit to this museum and hopefully, the auditorium will be completed.

Visitors can explore permanent exhibits such as Alabama Dinosaurs, Fox 6 Weather Lab, and Sea Monsters. The World of Water Aquariums houses fascinating sea creatures like green Moray eels and moon jellyfish. Named after John W.
We took our kids and they ABSOLUTELY loved this place. There was so much stuff to do here! Spent about 4-5 hours here. So much to see and physical do! Kids were very hands on! We didn’t try the imax this time but will come back to try that out! There was one person/worker that went over and beyond. I can NOT remember her name, but she was the manager of the little cafe. 2 things. 1. The food was great kids the kids loved the little things they made out of them. All allergy friendly. 2. The manager was so helpful with the menu, I am on a special diet and they help me get something together that I could eat. So very thankful for her. You can bring your own food home and eat it they have a special place that you sit and eat with home brought food. I will definitely will be back!

The Lego interpretation of this science center was so cute. My daughter didn’t want to leave the Itty Bitty Tiny Magic City which is located on the second floor. We mostly spent our time there. They also have a little aquarium area at the lowest floor level. It houses Moe, a green moray eel, and they also have an area where you can pet sting rays. If you have little humans, I highly recommend this while you are in Birmingham.

Sights & Landmarks
Vulcan Park and Museum is a must-visit destination that beautifully encapsulates Birmingham's rich industrial heritage. Dominating the skyline, the impressive 56-foot statue of Vulcan, crafted by Italian artist Giuseppe Moretti, stands proudly atop Red Mountain. This remarkable figure symbolizes the city's historical significance in iron and steel production and has been an iconic landmark since the 1930s.
I walked the Vulcan trail just to get some exercise, but decided to go on up to the park. It is beautiful and clean. I didn’t go into the museum this time, but will definitely hit it next time. The VIEWS up there are SPECTACULAR!! There are tables and benches in the area of the statue. IMPORTANT INFO if you’re coming in through the trail: the gates are locked at 4pm!!! I missed that sign as I took in the beautiful scenery. Thankfully, the kind security officer there named Andrew was willing to let me through the gate to get back to the trail (that leads me back toward my home). I was so thankful he was willing to do that for me! He certainly didn’t have to.

We have always enjoyed our visits to the Vulcan. It is the best view in Birmingham. The museum is great for folks who want to learn more about the history of The Steel City and history of the Vulcan. The scavenger hunt for children is very fun and a nice little touch to add to the experience. The gift shop has a nice variety of souvenirs and gifts at a reasonable price. Be sure and get a squished penny from the crank machine as you’re leaving, it will cost ya two quarters and of course, one penny. It’s a wonderful keepsake. The restrooms are very clean and well stocked and there’s a water fountain that is in working order and very clean. The trip to the top of the Vulcan consists of 108 stairs, if you choose to skip the elevator or it isn’t working. It’s worth the climb. Go at sunset you’ll see beauty that’s unexplainable. The meeting spaces are perfect for conferences and really any social or corporate event. I have attended several here and they’re always beautiful and fun with plenty of space for guests, catering, and all vendors to operate. It’s a beautiful setting.

I learned a lot about the history of Birmingham, the mining & iron making. I walked up the entire tower by staircase, as the elevator seemed fast & I have a fear of heights. The balcony around the top is very high, you can see THROUGH the walkway to the ground beneath you & I heard it creek a bit. This is not for those with a height issue, but it is beautiful to come & see from the ground & learn it's history. Even at the foot of the statue you can see downtown Birmingham. I enjoyed it.

My visit to the Vulcan Statue and Park was an absolute highlight of my trip to Birmingham. Not only is the iconic statue itself an impressive piece of history, representing the city's industrial past, but the entire complex offers so much more. The observation tower provides absolutely incredible panoramic views of the entire Birmingham skyline and the surrounding Red Mountain area – truly a photographer's dream, especially around sunset. The museum, while not huge, is surprisingly well-done and informative, giving you a deeper understanding of Vulcan's significance. The grounds are beautifully maintained, making it a pleasant place for a walk. It's easy to get to, with ample parking, and offers a fantastic blend of education and memorable scenery. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to truly experience Birmingham!

Hands down the best view of Birmingham. The view from the top is 360 degrees and is wonderful. Be sure to check out the museum for some of the regional history. Visit the Lone Pine mine while you are there to get a sense of what life was like in the early days of Birmingham.

Nice views of the city. Great service . Its 8 dollars plus tax for both the museum and statue. I think if you are local get a county library card i think you can get discount. The museum gives great info how the metal industrict was fundamental for Birmingham and for the nation specially WW2. Theire is a nice map on the floor of the plaza( sad i do not have a picture). There is a mine in the lower level and a trail you can walk. For all the family i highly recommend this .

I hate to give this only 4 stars as it was a awesome site to see. What I was extremely disappointed about was the elevator was broken and they wasn't discounting tickets or anything. I really wanted to go to the top, but as we were vacationing and had already walked miles, my legs just wasn't up to take the stairs all the way up. Enjoyed seeing it and the grounds. Maybe next time I'm through Birmingham, the elevator will be working and I can go up.

We stopped by while in Birmingham for my daughter's appointments at Children's and she had a blast. She absolutely loved it. We were a little disappointed the elevator was not working . She did do all the steps though and took it like a champ ( she gets tired easily after a while ( she had a stroke as a baby)

Located in Birmingham, Alabama, the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is a must-visit for motorsport enthusiasts. Founded by George Barber, the museum boasts a collection of over 1,200 motorcycles and race cars from as early as the late 1800s to the present day. The contemporary glass-enclosed setup provides an awe-inspiring display of rare and valuable vehicles that are considered moving pieces of art.
The Barber museum is a must see for any motorcycle enthusiast! The collection is expansive, beautifully displayed and traces back the history of motorcycles. You could easily spend an entire day and not cover everything. The museum grounds include a race track so to get the full experience, I’d recommend attending when there’s an event happening.

I've visited quite a lot of places all over the US and the world, and this is going on my top 10 list. What an awesome place! Great selection of vintage and modern motorcycles, some race cars, unique and historic pieces. I loved the section with real bikes that were used to accomplish amazing travel feats. The design of the whole place is perfect too - lighting, placement, ease of navigating. I will definitely visit again when in the area. This is a must for anyone interested in motorcycles/cars and their history. Loved it!
Olga L — Google review
Maybe the best curated museum we've ever been to. I love bikes and this place was golden. Just enough info about each bike to tell you its place in history without giving you too much to make it boring. They keep nearly every bike in running condition. They said 95% of all the bikes could be up and running in a few minutes. Their restoration shop is to notch. Having the race track outside is a huge entertaining bonus. Go see this place if you like motorcycles at all.
NRALifeMbr — Google review
Unique museum for sure. More motorbike focused than cars, which is fine. But it's mostly just bikes on display with signage of its specs. Wished for a bit more historical/informational exhibits catered to non enthusiasts. Overall, highly recommended if you're interested in motor sports. If not, maybe still worth a visit for $22. The track was cool, saw a few cars doing laps. Casuals can still spend a good 90 minutes here and enthusiasts can probably spend a whole afternoon.

We were on a trip from Nashville to New Orleans and we saw this museum right on our way. We said we must see what’s goin on in there. Turns out A LOT is going on. Personally I was not very interested in close-history or current motorcycles but vintage ones were wonderful. All those bikes, army vehicles and everything else. One word: wonderful.

It’s so unique, informative, interesting…definitely a must see for anyone who appreciates vehicles.

Truly staggering amount of motorcycles in this place. Days could be spent here. It is so well done. Great accessibility for everyone. In addition there is an outside walkway with bridges over racetrack, waterfall and more! Outstanding museum- do not drive by this place. It may be closed during race events according to the website. There was a Porsche driving experience going on during our visit so we watch cars go by under our feet during our visit.

Alabama Adventure & Splash Adventure is a popular water park and amusement park in Alabama. Located in Gulf Shores, Waterville USA offers a wide range of water attractions including slides, lazy river, and laser tag maze. The park has been continuously updated since its opening in 1986 to maintain state-of-the-art facilities. In Bessemer, just 20 minutes from Birmingham, Alabama Adventure!
Had a great time here. Kids had a seasonal pass and parking and drinks were free. For being a Sunday it wasn't really busy. We got there at 10:30 when they opened and left at 3pm. Loved the family time

I drove two and a half hours to visit this park. It was extremely clean, the free soft drinks and refills (all day!) and sunscreen were a super nice and much appreciated bonus. The food was really good and reasonably priced especially when you factor in that you do not have to pay for drinks. I was also extremely impressed and truly amazed at the diving show! The divers are super talented young men and women and were so nice to come out and meet the crowd after. My grandchildren were so excited to be able to meet and talk to them. The wave pool was a great attraction and there are many water rides for all ages and thrill levels. The water park is definitely the draw as the amusement side is much smaller in comparison. Everyone in our group loved the Laser Maze and the little ones loved the kids train ride. My grandson was especially fond of the water slide the Drop Zone. Overall I highly recommend this park and would consider it a must go to if you are in the area !!

It’s a nice place to take the keys to specially some real quick and face, but the food was not great to me because the food was not fresh. Some of the tables was not clean off, but like I said it’s just somewhere quick to take the kids too to have a fun day. I feel like they need more food attraction like Kenny Apple stores all day will I go back again, just to go somewhere quick and get rid of the kids yes but but it’s just somewhere quick to take the kids to and I feel like they need more rides to be open For the price that you pay. You will assume some of the rides were open, but they would not, and it was one of my biggest problems, but like I said, I would go back again and hopefully it will be a little more better because of the food. My food was cold. It was not fresh and they just give you old fries just to get rid of you out of the line especially your chicken tenders.
L*ndy89 — Google review
My daughter and niece had fun with their Girl Scout troop yesterday until it started raining. Before I share the bad part, I will say, the tenders were good, my girls enjoyed their cheeseburgers (though...they dont have ketchup??) and I appreciate not being required to dish out money over and over again to keep them hydrated (free drinks!) My 9 year old had a growth spurt so she couldnt enjoy a number of rides on the "Adventure" side but she did enjoy what she could ride. I love that parking is free, and although I always bring my own sunscreen, knowing the park offers a free backup is good. You can bring in your own, empty, non-glass cup to fill with the free drinks, which I recommend because they've run out of cups on 2 of our previous summer visits. Now...the frustrating part. It rained yesterday. Before the thunder even started, the lifeguards made everyone get out (Why? They're already wet). Per their website, the attractions must be shut down for 1 hour for you to get a pass to come back at a later date. We waited because we were hoping to just STAY at the park; we hadnt seen 1 show yet and the girls really enjoyed it last year, plus they hadn't visted all of the attractions on their 'list' yet. Also, visiting Splash Adventure is consistently one of the "rewards" they request after a successful cookie booth season. For the girls, this is their 1 chance, each summer, to visit Splash Adventure so we like to stay from open until closing. But once we realized the thunder wasn't stopping and then saw a flash of lightening-we were out of there. We went to guest services (as a group, as required, per their policy) to find out if we could get passes to come back....nope...everything must be closed for 1 hour, at that point it had only been closed for 50 minutes...but each ride must remain closed, awaiting clear skies, for at least 15 minutes after you hear thunder or see lightning (per one of the lifeguards)...we approached guest services once we saw lightning. Follow me, because I promise you my math IS mathing...if we must be lightening and thunder free for 15 minutes...and we just saw lightening...and we've already been waiting around doing nothing with a bunch of kids for 50 minutes...??? You get where I'm going? Even if the skies magically cleared up, by the time you open the rides back up-they've been closed for over an hour. Unfortunately, we were herding cranky kids, outside, in a thunderstorm (the group has to come up to guest services together, remember? So no sending the kiddos and a parent to the safety of your vehicle or to wait in a shop) so we just decided to leave early and leave without the return passes. We've already told the girls that next year, they're going to have to choose a different reward.
LaTonia W — Google review
Visited the park with my kids on a Friday. The park was it super packed, and we were able to ride all the water rides without much of a wait. It was a rainy day, and for the first hour, rides were shut down due to lightning. Not a big deal, but got a little frustrated when I heard a radio that a lifeguard was using say that they'd been clear for a while, they just hadn't put the word out. I appreciate safety closures, but I would think they'd get customers back to the fun as soon as it's safe. Otherwise, the staff was ok. Park cleanliness was not too notch. Bathrooms were pretty gross. I know it's a water park and people drip water all over the place, but I saw staff just sitting around doing nothing (quite a bit), and I feel someone could have been assigned to keep facilities cleaner. There was also a hand sanitizer station that looked like a hazardous waste tub (see pic) The free drink offer is pretty awesome. Overall, we had a good time because the ride lines were so short, and the kids had a good time. Minor improvements could make it even better.
Jarrad C — Google review
Really disappointed in the way the park is being operated. What was once a very magical place has been reduced to an unrecognizable mess. For starters the “Main Street” looks like a ghost town. The “gift shops” are empty and don’t sell anything to show you’ve visited. All of the novelty shops are gone and closed, but yet there’s a ridiculously placed glass blowing shop..? All of the old tattered signage is still in place showing what was once a themed area but is now a faded peeling vacant lot. What kind of park gift shop doesn’t sell cups/magnets/keychains? As for their advertising and marketing… I’m not really sure what the decisions are being made there… but honestly it’s awful. Why advertise as a theme park and water park if it’s 95% water and 5% park? When you look at your signage/logo it looks as tho it’s 50/50. BE PREPARED-all of the rides here are pack n go carnival rides. Everything is gone. Hurricane, Zoomerang, vertigo, stratos-fear, all of the original kids rides, the Ferris wheel, the log flume, the wild river rapids, buzzsaw falls, the pirate ship, the swings and so many more are ALL GONE… many of which are just literal empty concrete foundations where the rides used to be… and for their focus to be on making it a water park, that’s chopped as well. The landscaping has been totally changed, the giant bucket and play area which was the face of the water area has been reduced to what I can only describe as a glorified McDonald’s play place. But hey, at least they made sure to leave that very bucket sitting on the ground to taunt you that your memories have been destroyed. Thanks. I am just really in awe of just how much has gone wrong at this park, it really is so sad to see the Rampage just rotting when their own website states it is set to open “2025” is it that hard to fix your own website? I feel it was a complete waste of an off day and my earned money… I am happy to have seen the park so many times in the glory days. To have seen Disney Stars live in concert at the parks amphitheater, riding the Ferris wheel during a concert! Which is now covered by faded, leaking water slides.. yay! As for what they “have added” cheddar chase is a cheap copy of a ride called “crazy mouse” upon further inspection you’ll notice it’s a pack n go carnival ride they’ve sat down in zommerangs grave. The “YoYo” ride is already being dismantled and sold off I’m sure so who knows what’ll be next in the what was once the Vertigo’s home. The “Galleon” pirate ship ride which is not the original ship ride is BROKEN and has been for the entire season, which with it being new, why? Because they are PACK N GO CARNIVAL RIDES. Rampage appears to be closed for good, many of the employees stated this and that the park has been hosting a fundraiser for it… the ride was covered in weeds, trees and branches. Just sitting rotting over the park. And what was the idea for the hurricane gravesite? A whole bunch of rotting gnome houses? Like what is going on in the main office at this place. Hope the theme park finds its theme again and manages to hire some competent people in the higher ups to breathe some life back into Magic City’s only theme park.

We had a wonderful time during our stay other than this one instance when we were riding the Scrambler and experienced two of the rudest people/employees we could have ever imagined encountering. Aside from their draining and exhausting attitudes, they told my son and his friend (10 year olds) they didn’t need to use their seatbelts. This was not only unprofessional but could’ve lead to a very dangerous situation. One of them also asked “can I not read” since I went down the wrong line, in which I replied “I couldn’t read” because I see nothing wrong with someone who may suffer from illiteracy, it was just her smart mouth trying to make someone feel less than that really gave me a bad vibe. I wouldn’t have even said anything had it not been for the improper seat restraint situation. I hope these ladies find another job where people, especially children, aren’t the full focus. I truly hope that everyone could find their calling and become the best versions of themselves while doing so, however this doesn’t serve in the best interests of an amusement park by having employees with little to no safety standards or morals can ever be done.

The Mercedes-Benz Visitor Center is a must-visit destination for car enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Located adjacent to Daimler's only U.S. automobile manufacturing plant, this architectural showcase brings to life the rich history of the German automaker. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits that delve into the company's legacy and showcase vintage cars. The showroom displays classic, modern, and concept cars from the Mercedes-Benz line, offering a comprehensive look at their evolution over time.
A much needed refresher. What an experience. I was fortunate to be able to visit the Mercedes Benz Visitor Center for the 2nd time and what a face lift. The last time I visited was Brand Immersion. I am proud to be apart of an amazing Company. Our team of facilitators are truly phenomenal. They’re entertaining, funny and beyond friendly. The facility is amazing and very spacious. It’s pretty cool to see the where it all comes from.

Two thumbs down 👎👎 nothing but an overpriced gift shop. Wow, what a lost opportunity to build their brand and consumer knowledge with fans and customers. Super disappointed, sounds like it used to be a great experience. Would be better not stopping by and being disappointed.
David P — Google review
Fun place to stop by if you’re driving through. Wish they would make tours a regular thing. I called almost a month in advance to add just myself to a tour. “Sorry full”. The visitors center is pretty nice. They have about a dozen cars to see. Small gift shop is very overpriced but what do you expect from Mercedes.
Nathan O — Google review
It’s closed. There are no cars on display, but they have absolutely no signage or notice of this. Gift shop and open and the guy there was super nice and told us about how he’s going to be on Family Feud. I hope he wins.

Excellent museum to go and visit as it offers extensive history on all models of the Mercedes Benz and even a glance into what to expect in the future. The factory had and excellent interior design with restroom and looking the the older car models was very exciting. And looking at some new cars really got me in the mood to drive.

Amazing! Plenty of Mercedes Benz history to admire. Lots of informative exhibits, examples of engines and tools used. AMG and Mercedes Benz souvenirs to take home from the gift shop. Special section of F1 information and the car Lewis Hamilton won a championship in. Definitely worth a visit.

Showroom features classic, modern, and concept cars from the Mercedes-Benz line. Tours of the factory occur at 9am and 12pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, according to the attendant. Call ahead to reserve a spot.

Oak Mountain State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Biking Trails
Home to a petting zoo, golfing & beaches, this vast park has camping, hiking trails & fishing.
Oak mountain State Park is really a lot of fun for hiking and biking. I did not go to the beach area but I did see people filling their cars with kids and swimsuits and some kayaks on the water that I did pass. I was really impressed with the campground: I had a site that had electric, water and sewer. They have very good washers and dryers. Very good shower and toilet facilities, and very friendly staff. I was camping but I also see that they have cottages for rent that look very nice... They have so much to offer. I would say that you should go to the Alabama State Park website so that you can see everything. Sweet home Alabama 🎵

This place was amazing! Beautiful views and me and my daughters first time hiking. You have to pay to enter the park. And maps were a $1. Walked a trail and also visited the treetop area with the injured owls that were taken in. Very interesting visit. Would definitely go again.

We loved the Double Oak lake! It's never too crowded and the atmosphere is refreshing. This was our last lake day of the year today with the kids and the weather was perfect. There is a beach volleyball court and Pavillion acquired grills. If you don't want the beach part there are grassy park areas to picnic, there is a concession stand that offers gear and snacks.

Loved the fall view from our cabin. Great value. Easy nearby hikes. Nater center wonderful with great info. Looks like they work hard to reduce invasive plants...but the bird window looked like invasive nandina may be present. Windows protected by bird friendly surfaces. Thanks! Reds were sasafrass, sumac, tupelo, sourwood, red maple, and even some dogwood!

Oak Mountain is a beautiful state park. Sites were level, with full hook ups available and good tasting water. The bathhouse was ideal: several heated and private toilets, showers, and sinks each in their own handicap accessible unit. There are numerous hiking trails and opportunities for outdoor activities. We stayed there while visiting historical sites in Birmingham. One downside was that the campfire wood was too dense to make a good campfire. We couldn't even split it with the hatchet. If you like campfires, bring plenty of fire starter and plan to hunt for kindling.
Merry S — Google review
Great place to run, hike, trail run, bike, kayak and any other outdoor activities you can think of. Trails are well marked and you can also get a trail map at the front gate when you enter the park. They have a bunch of fun events at Oak Mt from biking & bmx track races to 5K and many other races on a weekly basis. There is also a beautiful golf course and great campground.
Eric S — Google review
Wow...This place is amazing. Largest state park I've seen in any state to date. Lots to do here and there is something for everyone in the family. Golfing, horseback riding, archery, biking & mountain biking, scenic drives, fishing, hiking, water falls, beaches with floating obstacle course, wake boarding on a wire, swimming, play grounds, picnic areas, accessible trails, etc. I also camped here for the weekend in the RV park area. Spacious camping spaces with pull throughs and full hookups. There is a heavy state park trooper presence here, so quiet hours are strictly observed and departure and arrival times are pretty firm. Town is fairly close and you can be to the grocery store, ice cream, coffee, etc. within ten minutes. Target and Walmart are a little further out, but are within a 20-30 minute ride. Camping World and the RV Super Store are within a 30-40 minute ride. Downtown Birmingham is also within 30-40 minute ride. Lots of antique shops in the area with some pretty cool stuff and lots of good finds.
Susan H — Google review
Four-night stay at loop A of the campground of a 15-park 10-week adventure. Saying it is a very nice park is an understatement. It seems to have been recently renovated. The water, sewer, and electricity connections are new. Some of the sites are a little too close to the neighbors but ten to fifteen are isolated enough for us. The bathhouses are state-of-the-art. The park is huge, with lots of hiking and biking trails. The Alabama Wildlife Center is amazing. We visited a second time just to see Shelby the bald eagle eat again. She can’t be released due to an eye injury. On our first visit an education specialist asked if we wanted to meet Monty the Mississippi kite. Sure! Monty had to stay inside two nights due to freezing temps.

Majestic Caverns

Nature & Parks
Historical landmark
Activity-packed park offering cave tours & a light show plus wall climbing & games.
The guided cavern tour was awesome. Atticus was our guide and did a great job and answered all of my kids questions. It was a great time. My boys ages 8, 6, 3 loved the attractions. The park was not very busy on the day we visited and all the employees helped to make our day fun. Judah was awesome to our boys and helped us on a number of attractions. The older boys favorite was the cave crawl box. We are definitely planning to go back around Christmas for their event. Final note the place was super clean.
John B — Google review
This is a pretty cool place to check out. It is pretty pricy, though. If you don't like the darkness, I don't recommend going in the cave. They turn off all the lights for a little in the beginning of the tour. If you have a little one, an umbrella stroller is fine. Just make sure you hold on to the stroller. The walkways are steep and wet.
Jacklin D — Google review
We drove up from the Tuscaloosa area, which is about an hour and a half. Overall, the Caverns Park was clean, welcoming, and family-friendly. We booked Campsite #1, which looked nice from a distance but was very uneven and made leveling our camper difficult. Campsites 1–3 are positioned in a straight line, and Site 1 in particular is not level at all. I do not recommend booking Campsite #1 for that reason. The biggest disappointment was the bathhouse. The bathrooms and showers were unfortunately not well-maintained the ceilings had visible mold, and the showers appeared as though they hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time. One of the restrooms also had a strong urine odor. While I didn’t expect perfection, the overall condition was below expectations. Most of the park’s activities seemed geared toward younger children, roughly ages 5–12, so there wasn’t much offered for older kids or adults. That said, we really enjoyed our cavern tour with our guide, Roman, and the light show inside the caverns was a great addition. It was a fun and educational experience with some fascinating history definitely the highlight of our visit.
C N — Google review
We camped here for two nights—Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the attraction area was quite busy, but by Sunday, it had quieted down considerably. The campground bathrooms had air conditioning, which was a nice bonus. Though a bit dated, they were otherwise pleasant. The campground itself wasn’t crowded—only one other camper was there during our stay. We booked site 16 for our 30' camper, and it was a tight fit due to the fence and trees. Maneuvering in was a challenge; most other sites seemed easier to access. Sites 1 through 3 are in a straight line, so if you’re considering site 2, it’s best to coordinate with someone else booking the adjacent sites, especially if you plan to leave on the same day. Overall, the attractions were fun for families and we had a great time!
Arlene B — Google review
We went on a Sunday and it was like a ghost town. So if you're not a fan of crowds this is the day to go. We went years ago when it was called DeSoto Caverns and the light show was great this was mediocre and considering the tickets cost it was over priced at $30+ per person. My son paid over 30 for 4 of us to do the panning for gems. And that was ok - we all came away with a few to take home.
Brandi S — Google review
At a constant 60° year round, Majestic Caverns offers a comfortable and beautiful underground experience. Our tour guide Davis was very friendly and knowledgeable about the cavern and it's rich history. They kindly allow photos to be taken, and I only wanted to post a couple so not to spoil the experience for others. The laser light show at the end is not to be missed! There were other attractions on-site but due to our schedule we chose to only do the caverns. There was plenty of parking and the park featured an amazing gift shop. There are clean bathrooms available, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
J H — Google review
This place was fantastic. We went with our family and we all had so much fun. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. They had so much more to do than just the cave. The cave was so much fun and very accessible and not a long hike or difficult to walk. It was a blast.
Thomas I — Google review
Our trail life group of 30 people got to stay Inside the cave overnight! Roman was our guide and we could not have asked for a better guy to lead the boys! He was super great with the kids! We enjoyed water gun battles, water ballon wars, a cave crawling maze and panning for gemstones. If I could give this place and Roman 10 stars I would!

Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum

Museum
Non-profit organization
Visitors ride in historic trains at this railroad museum featuring antique cars & artifacts.
Attended the Mother’s Day wine tasting evening with Ozan and loved it!!! Felt taken back into history with the train and ticket taker’s costume. Please go if you haven’t! It’s so much fun!
Courtney R — Google review
We were underwhelmed to say the least. Spent $300 (2 adult, 2 kids) for a ride on an old coach (table car) to what was said to be the North Pole. Ride took about 10 minutes off not less and then we stood there somewhere with cheap appealing Christmas lights. Many neighborhoods have better decoration! And then the light in the wagon is turned on and Santa comes for a photo with each child. The collectible cup is a plastic cup with a logo of the museum, nothing worth collecting. The hot chocolate was anything but hot and the promised bakery stuff 3 little cubes of different cheesecake but neither of these nips was something special. There was a Christmas story told over the speakers but it was so loud in the car that we could hardly understand a thing. The idea is really neat but this could be so much better, like Lights of Noel in Birmingham, only you drive through the lights in a train instead of your car. And let people get off the train at the North Pole then … I give 2 stars for the very nice elderly guide in the museum who explained us everything that’s exhibited there. The North Pole Express didn’t deserve a star. Sorry.
Steve I — Google review
Cute Railroad museum. A lot of different kinds of trains to look at and climb onto. My 3 year old loved it. Plenty of parking and areas to eat food we brought. What we didn't like was the fact that the gift shop and museum are closed even though their hours are 9am-2pm. A friendly man told us "the lady running the giftshop is making a run to Sam's Club but should be back any moment now" which was over an hour ago and she's nowhere in sight. The restrooms weren't open either.

We took our grandson to see all of the old trains and cars along with the small museum tour that was awesome. If you have the privilege to have a tour with the elder gentleman it is well worth the trip. He is very interesting to listen to as you make your way through. We also took the north poll express trip on the train to have Santa and Mrs. Clause visit us on our train car.

We visited the Heart of Dixie Railroad for their Pumpkin Junction event, and it was fabulous! This was by far our favorite event at the venue. It was well organized and we had very little wait time. FarmLinks at Pursell Farms

Golf course

Golf club
Resort hotel
One of my favorite courses in the middle of nowhere that I have played. The course from tee to green was absolutely beautiful. My experience started from the moment we checked into the gate by a security guard. We had a peaceful early morning drive to the pro shop. Staff were very friendly. When we arrived at the starter who was very friendly, they had water in styrofoam cups with ice for all players and a barrel of green apples to take a few with you on the course. The course was open with a nice layout and very playable for all golfers of all skill levels. You get a nice roll in the fairway and the green was not too difficult to read. Great golf experience! We were lucky not to have anyone playing behind us or in front of us so pace of play for us was perfect and relaxing.

The course was in great shape. TaylorMade TP range balls. Nice practice area. The staff are nice. Food and drink was a little too pricey for what you're getting. Definitely worth the stop

Hands down one of the best courses you can play in Alabama!! Don't let the price make your decision because this is a beautiful place to see and the views are incredible. We'll maintained and properly ran, keep up the great work yall 👏 👍

FarmLinks is a special golf experience. Wonderfully maintained greens and fairways. Plenty of tee boxes for all skill levels. Staff and facilities are top notch. $200 a player, but worth the cost. Enjoy a drink and a bite to eat at Founders Pub after your round.
Robert C — Google review
May be my favorite place to play - period. Live in HSV, played all the RTJ courses and love em, but the wide open fairways, course condition, and greens make this my #1. Enthusiasm only tempered by the price.
Steve W — Google review
Beautiful facility with good food and amenities. Very poor management /upkeep . The 2 cottages we stayed in were not clean - mold all over the shower head, my granddaughter drew pictures and wrote her name in the thick dust on the top of the dresser(obviously hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.) In addition there were no hot pads for the kitchen, microwave didn’t work etc. Management needs serious overhauling for a resort of this caliber!

Great golf course in the middle of absolutely nowhere. If you want solitude and golf amongst the other activities they have you are going to the right place!!

Farmers Markets
A must stop for me every time I travel to the Gulf Shores! You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream! Stop and get some fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, or have a sandwich for lunch! My husband loves the mini apple pies. Ohhh, if you've never had chess pie, they have vanilla or peach you can choose from. One piece is enough for 2 servings! Walk around, sit outside at the picnic tables, or swing while you savor your delicious treats!

This is a great farmers market stop and has been one of the favorite stops. They have an area for fresh veggies and fruits, cider, sauces, canned goods. They also have a section to buy ice cream and a little restaurant where you can get things like sandwiches and soups and a few other food items. There is also a cute little gift shop inside. They have indoor seating to eat or they have a very nice outdoor covered pavilion with ceiling fans and tables and chairs to sit at. It was really nice eating out there. I got a very good chicken salad sandwich, with very fresh tomatoes on a croissant. Someone with me got club sandwich.

I recently had the pleasure of stopping by Durbin Farmers Market in Clanton, AL, and I was thoroughly impressed by the variety and quality of the products and services they offer. This charming market is a must-visit for anyone looking for fresh, locally sourced produce, delicious homemade treats, and a welcoming atmosphere. *Fresh Produce and More* The market boasts an impressive selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, including an abundance of juicy peaches that seemed to be a specialty. We also spotted an assortment of fresh fruit preserves, Amish goods, and boiled peanuts that looked and smelled delicious. The emphasis on peaches was evident, with numerous peach trucks and displays throughout the market. *Restaurant and Food* The attached restaurant serves up tasty sandwiches and homemade ice cream that's sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. We ordered the spinach bacon sandwich and southwest chicken sandwich, both of which were flavorful and well-prepared. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. *Beautiful Outdoor Seating Area* One of the highlights of our visit was the picturesque outdoor seating area, which offered a serene and natural ambiance. The beautifully landscaped surroundings and comfortable seating made it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal or snack. *A Great Place to Stop on the Road* Durbin Farmers Market is an excellent choice for travelers looking for a quick bite or a chance to stretch their legs. The market's friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and variety of products make it a great place to stop and recharge. Whether you're in the mood for fresh produce, homemade treats, or a delicious meal, Durbin Farmers Market is definitely worth a visit. *Overall* Our experience at Durbin Farmers Market was delightful, and we'd highly recommend it to anyone passing through Clanton, AL. The market's emphasis on local produce, homemade goods, and good food makes it a great place to experience the best of the region. So, if you find yourself driving through Clanton, be sure to stop by Durbin Farmers Market and enjoy the fresh flavors and warm hospitality.

What can you say about a highway pit stop that has everything? Sandwiches, ice cream, clean bathrooms, shade trees, picnic tables, and a fantastic fresh market to boot. Better than Buc-ees? Put it this way - I never drive past it! Halfway between my house and the beach. Absolutely wonderful!

Stopped in on the way home to Florida. They have a great selection of fresh fruits and veggies. They also have an amazingly varied and unique, at least to me, selection of pickled and jarred fruits and veggies. Love that they have roasted, fresh and green peanuts, so once I get back up north I can boil my own. This is a go to stop.

Peach Park

Farmers' market
Nature & Parks
Down-home farm eatery offering traditional American dishes & desserts, plus a market & gift shop.
We always enjoy stopping by Peach Park on our way home from Pensacola. It's a good time to stretch our legs, bathroom break, and of course, get a bite of BBQ and top it with a homemade ice cream cone. They have a great park for the kids to play, a walking trail, and plenty of benches to sit down on underneath some shade trees. The staff is friendly and helpful along with clean facilities and restaurant. Good vibes all around.

Parking lot was packed but across the road there is a fenced field that has overflow parking., It’s large enough to handle a RV. The light house on top of the hill behind the store is a cool photo op. The store itself is lack luster. Unless you really want to stop, just keep going.

Great One Stop Tourist Shop!!!! Food was great and there was the most adorable walking paths that are great for stretching your legs! The walking paths were a very easy walk, slightly wooded with shade and plenty of swings and rocking chairs to relax on for a break! In the shops there is a bbq restaurant with really good food! And they even sell local honey and fresh produce and canned goods! There are multiple gift shopping options and even a TINY COFFEE SHOP! I can’t believe I haven’t stopped here before! This will be a regular pit stop when traveling thru this area from now forward! MUST SEE!

Peach Park is such a great little rest stop — perfect for stretching your legs while traveling through. They offer fresh fruits and veggies when in season, along with a variety of jams, jellies, and baked goods. You can find delicious fresh-baked breads like peach bread, plus they have a deli and a hot food bar for heartier options. They also sell ice cream, fried pies, cobblers, and pastries. The peach fried pie is huge, fresh, and absolutely delicious — the crust is perfectly golden and flaky. The ice cream tastes fresh and creamy too. Inside, there’s a boutique with cute items, but the prices are on the higher side. The same goes for the Peach Park T-shirts — nice, but a bit pricey in my opinion. There are plenty of seating options both indoors and outdoors — tables and chairs, picnic tables, swings, rocking chairs, and even a patio area. The decor is cute and welcoming, with some small gardens and walking paths around the property. Behind the store, there’s a paved trail that goes up a hill to a playground, and you’ll often spot birds and squirrels along the way. They’ve also set up several fun photo spots, including an old tractor with steps added so you can easily climb up for pictures. The bathrooms are clean, and the whole place has a friendly, charming vibe. A neat little stop — definitely worth pulling over for!

Nice and clean. Parking lot lines need to be repainted. Parking can be difficult at peak times. Love the fried apple pies. Large enough for two people to share. Inside the food court is kept a little too cold. Definitely a place to stop and visit.

We were celebrating my son's birthday! They had a singer there that day and he was really good! It was country music and one gospel song to wrap up his set. I love that they have a small play ground for the kids and plenty of photo opportunities!

We stayed at the Campground for one night as we were just passing through. Full hook up and water for $32.00 buck a night, work for us! Peach Park has breakfast from 5a~10am for purchase. We felt safe and it was conveniently located right off the Highway and is close to restaurants. There is a playground there for kids. Be sure to get some Peach Ice Cream during your stay 😋

Montgomery Zoo & Mann Wildlife Learning Museum

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
The Montgomery Zoo & Mann Wildlife Learning Museum is a sprawling 40-acre zoo that houses over 700 animals from five continents. Visitors can embark on a journey through various habitats, encountering zebras, tigers, camels, and monkeys roaming freely without cages or barriers. The lush greens between habitats provide a picturesque setting for exploring the diverse animal exhibits. Additionally, the zoo offers unique experiences such as behind-the-scenes tours of elephant and tiger habitats and giraffe feeding encounters.
My husband and I went on Military Appreciation Day. We took 2 of our grandchildren ages 6 and 8. It was a great day. The zoo was big enough that it kept us busy all day. Yet small enough that it didn't overwhelm us. They are upgrading the zoo and some animal exhibits were closed.
Lynne P — Google review
8/2025 We like zoos and had a little extra time in Montgomery so we decided to stop by. It was hot so some animals were inside, but we really liked the ones we saw including the Pygmy hippos, elephants, lions, cheetahs, other cats, rhino, chimpanzees, lemurs, and more. Nice place to spend a couple hours!
Mark S — Google review
Our first time going: 1. Lacks directional signage for how to navigate around the zoo. 2. Tickets are priced too high for the few animals on exhibit. 3. Accessible for mobility impaired customers seemed good 4. Gift shop was small but cute I will table my plans to buy a membership until I can determine if it is worthwhile once more exhibits are open and renovation is further along. 5

We are a zoo lover visiting zoos in South Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, and now Alabama. I’ve seen worse. But I’ve definitely seen better. The good: Parking was great. Plenty of parking. No complaints there. Prices for food was good, especially for a zoo. The staff at the overlook cafe was phenomenal. I gave this zoo an extra star just for the staff at the cafe. Customer service matters! The bad: The exhibits were small and often left me feeling bad for the animals because it seemed too small for animals of their size and normal range. My biggest complaint though is not enough bathrooms and the signs directing you around the park were awful. Very confusing and not enough of them.

Went with my wife as part of a romantic getaway weekend. Great park clean amenities and lovely animals to gaze upon. We were there when they opened the gates and the ticket booth operators were all very nice and quick moving making for a fast entrance and great experience overall from beginning to end!

All animal facilities looked well kept and adequately sized. Staff definitely looked interested in the animal welfare. Couple of exhibits closed (including alligator) and the skyline wasn't open during our weekday visit. Gift shop renovation ongoing... Take plenty of water when it's warm, no water stations around the site and $3 for a bottle in the cafe

Service was excellent. A few exhibits were closed for remodeling. Looking forward to seeing it when they are finished.

The Montgomery zoo is under construction at this time. The front entrance is the main thing that they seem to be working on. I think the money would be better spent on the animals and their habitats. It was very hot, some of the animals may have been inside for their own safety, but there were many that were not available for viewing.

History Museums
The Rosa Parks Library & Museum Childrens Wing in Alabama is a culturally significant landmark that recounts the historical impact of the 1955 bus incident. It features a wide collection of exhibits related to the South's Civil Rights movement and segregation. The museum caters to both adults and children, offering interactive displays that bring history to life. Visitors can take a 45-minute time machine tour, which provides an immersive experience of living through America's not too distant past.
Great tour. Great bus ride in the time traveler. Very well laid out and easy to follow. A lot of history regarding civil rights.
Mike M — Google review
I personally loved the museum! However, my kids did not and I can understand why. They’re young, and I feel it is more of an older kid/teen thing. The immersive experience was great! I really enjoyed learning about the civil rights movement, and the first hand accounts that were included. The art part of the museum was really amazing as well!
Kaitlan L — Google review
This is such a well done museum. The bus has to be seen to be believed. The story of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus boycott a pivotal event that fueled the civil rights movement and got Martin Luther King Jr. Involved (was where he started in the movement) the displays and information is really helpful to understand the times and key events and that one person can make a difference.
Joel H — Google review
We brought a large number of students to review the museum and the interactive display was riveting! The students related well to the feeling of living through that time in America's not too distant past. The exhibit really carried them back in time. They understood more clearly the scope of the problems that motivated many of our ancestors to act as they did to secure their freedom. Great lessons for today's organizers. Well done!

The time machine bus was fine, but the staff annoyed at us being there ruined it for us.

Wonderful and innovative exhibit. The history is so rich and wonderful. Small, but very impactful
Sheila S — Google review
We were in the children's wing on a field trip. I was disappointed that, although we were "riding" on Rosa Parks bus, they have information about the struggles of African Americans from 1840-1950's, which is important to know, but not much on what Rosa Parks did. It would have been nice to have footage in the video of that. They teased in the video, saying that something big was about to happen, but didn't talk about it. Instead the kids went on a scavenger hunt for info, but I don't remember that the info found was that much about Rosa, as well. I was just hoping that such an important woman would have more info about her.

Excellent presentation of the history of the Civil Rights struggle.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Montgomery, The First White House of the Confederacy is a stunning Italianate mansion that holds a significant place in American history. Constructed in 1835, this elegant residence became home to Jefferson Davis and his family during the Civil War when Montgomery served as the Confederate capital from February to May 1861.
It is so wonderful they moved this here in 1921, not even 60 years after the Confederacy. It looks beautiful, even at night with it lit up, I hope it is here for many more years to come so everyone can see history with their own eyes. I was here after it closed, but seeing it from the street is still amazing

The frontman was very informative! We enjoyed listening to the brief history story. The house is well kept! Very beautiful, it gives you the 1800’s movie feeling! Must visit if you’re around the area

Well done and detailed museum. I'm not familiar with Southern history (I'm a Westerner) so it's very interesting and informative visiting museums like this. It makes me want to learn more. The staff is really knowledgeable and helpful.

Mr. Bob was an excellent and kind host. He invited me in and let me know about this beautiful and historical museum that you definitely MUST visit to know about American history. Please feel free to stop if you're visiting Montgomery AL. This masterpiece is free.

A MUST! For everyone. This is the BEST tour we’ve had by far, by the most incredibly knowledgeable friendly and open guide - Mr. Bob. Even the kids wanted to stay more and more. What an important and unique experience that no one should miss.

If I could give more stars I would. The First White House of the Confederacy is one of the finest museums we have been to anywhere. Beautifully preserved with wonderful artifacts displaying a brief slice of history. The staff are some of the most gracious, knowledgeable and friendly people we have had the pleasure to me. This home has mostly original furnishings and detailed descriptions of each room. A definite must see, so elegant.

The people working at the museum really knew their history and had much enthusiasm for it. I'm glad to see it preserved. It's amazing to see how detailed and ornate the furniture and other items are.

Nestled just a block away from the Alabama State Capitol, the Dexter Parsonage Museum stands as a poignant reminder of the Civil Rights movement. This clapboard parsonage was home to Martin Luther King Jr. and his family during their pivotal years in Montgomery from 1954 to 1960. It played a significant role in history, serving as a gathering place for supporters during events like Rosa Parks' bus boycott, which challenged segregation laws.
We didn't know what to expect, but it turned out an amazing afternoon visiting the Dexter Parsonage museum. After an interesting video, we were given an intimate tour of the property where MLK lived, with all the stories and context given by our amazing tour guide. A unique experience to see such a significant place up close without red tape or waiting lines, and especially with such a great guide. Truly wonderful.
Rudolf V — Google review
It was an honor to visit the Dexter Parsonage Museum. My family and I received a guided tour lead by Sarah (4/12/2025) who was phenomenal. She was so welcoming, knowledgeable, explained each crevice of the house thoroughly. I was so intrigued not only by the beauty and history of the home but how Sarah spoke and gave so much history behind the home plus more. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to not only know the history of the home, but feel the history of the home to visit for a tour.
Nico S — Google review
Wondeful tour. So rich in the history of MLKas a young pastor. Make sure you take a tour; otherwise, much will be missed. Well worth it!
T. S — Google review
Got there as they closed but they were nice enough to give us a tour of MLK's home the lady 's name escapes me but there were 3 of them all very nice and friendly and beautiful as well
Samuel T — Google review
Great hour tour. It was just what we were looking for on MLK day. The tour might not start off great. They have you watch a 10-15 min poorly produced video of the home’s history before going over. In my opinion they could completely cut that out. The talking and in-person storytelling was much better. The tour guide did an awesome job telling the story of 54-60 as though we were there. He had lots of anecdotal evidence and retrospection, meeting history. I don’t think he could have done a better job delivering historic wonderment to the kids in the group. He tailored the tour to the audience well. There may be some points that are more round about, but the tour is a well spent hour of your time while in Montgomery. Make sure to follow the Dexter Parsonage up with going to the MLK’s Church on 454 Dexter Ave!

I enjoyed this visit unfortunately both works were on lunch so we weren't able to get inside to see everything. The one employee was able to assist with giving us additional information and history about the site. We will be heading back soon.

Hidden gem! We were the only people there and got so much out of it. We had an awesome tour guide and are sad people are not visiting this place more. It's a historical landmark for the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. This place marked me personally and I'd strongly recommend it to anyone driving through or in the area.
Christel S — Google review
This tour was facilitated and led by women who were descendants of the Civil Right Movement in Alabama. These volunteers lovingly shared their personal and documented stories with us. This is an amazing tour. Thank you ladies! A must if you are in Montgomery!

A place I have wanted to visit for some time and it did not disappoint. Overall, less than 2 hours. Would start with the 30 minute film to get an excellent overview (believe on the hour) and then return to hangar 1 to start the tour. This hangar focused on the nuts and bolts of the operation while hangar 2 addressed the accomplishments. In addition to the victory abroad, there was a great deal to learn about the victory at home - the Double V. Hangar 2 also housed a P-51 Mustang (red tail).

The site was not crowded when I visited. The staff were very friendly. The site was clean and well maintained. The exhibits do a great job presenting the information. The hands-on exhibits were nice. The gift shop was closed due to construction today. It is very interesting, and I recommend it. Would visit again some time.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Tuskegee Airmen Museum. The layout was great and easy to follow and the exhibits were both educational and informative. National Park Service employees at the Museum were available, knowledgeable, and helpful. The Museum has a gift shop and plenty of parking.

I was down in the area visiting Family who is attending Auburn. I went to the airport to see the story area that I had read about. It was easy to find, but was very disappointed. It wasn’t open due to the federal shut down. I was able to walk around the grounds and read some of the placards, but it was a bummer not to go inside and see all of the displays. Don’t know when I’ll get back there, but hopefully it’ll be open next time.
PJ K — Google review
Rather generic for a museum that covers some of the most heroic men and women in the history of the world. Not too many artifacts other than a few planes. Mostly walls of info which is fine I guess but personally I would like to see artifacts, no matter how small. Makes sure you go in mild weather, hangar one is 7x the temperature it is outside and hangar 2 is just cool enough to give you hope. Oh and don't get too close to the AC in the gift shop, it's forbidden 😂. Take my word for it... Go to this museum to support history but grab a pamphlet and sit in your car and read it if it's over 90° outside.

Loved visiting this place ! It was on my bucket list. 30 min film in hanger 2 defiantly worth it. Gift shop at end of hanger 2 very hard to find was closed for lunch so didn't get a magnet. Also if you can't walk that far drive down the hill and park. Also its free to see.

Priester's Pecans

Candy store
Shopping
Sprawling cafe & gift shop offering a wide range of candied pecans, plus fudge & other sweet treats.
It was our first time in Priester's. We loved it! We arrived during lunchtime on a Wednesday. It was mildly busy but not too crowded to browse and see the plethora of items the store has to offer. We sampled some pecans and coffee. I bought a cup of the pecan pie coffee and loved it. Sadly, I didn't notice the fudge until I had gotten in line. We will stop again sometime.
Jason A — Google review
It was somewhere between the churn of I-65 and the slow drawl of South Alabama earth that we came upon it, not so much a store as a monument—Priester’s Pecans, a place steeped in sugar and sunlight, where time melts like butter on a warm biscuit and every corner smells of memory. We stepped inside and were met not by noise, but by atmosphere, thick with praline and pie, divinity and brittle. The air itself seemed to hum, like something old and good was still baking just out of sight. The pecans—Lord, the pecans—were not mere snacks but offerings: roasted, glazed, candied, or cloaked in chocolate like something from a dream that woke up in a rocking chair. Each one held a story, cracked open and told with every bite. And behind the counter, the people. Not hurried, not hollow-eyed like in those cold modern shops, but slow-moving and sweet, like syrup in January. They spoke as if they had nowhere else to be and nothing more important to do than help you find the right box for your mama, or that pie your granddaddy liked before he passed. It wasn’t just a shop. It was a cathedral of comfort, built out of pecan shells and Southern pride, a place where every jar of preserves and every handful of pralines whispered that you were home, even if home was still five hours down the road. So we left with our arms full and our hearts fuller, knowing that Priester’s Pecans was not just a stop—it was a sacred pause. A place where sweetness is still slow, still sacred, and still made by hands that remember what matters.
Owensfamilyarvada — Google review
I’ve driven by here many times but never stopped…..until today! We had a great lunch - chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches. They also have hot buffet foods, ice cream, pecans, fudge, clean restrooms, and a full gift shop. We will make this a regular stop on our future I-65 travels. Thanks Priester’s!
Glenn J — Google review
What's not to like, great sweets with the largest freshest variety anywhere around. Better than the gift shops at the beach . Where else can you get a dozen flavors of fudge candy jars for yards and ice cream scoops that actually fill the sugar cone? Not to mention watching the candy being made or any of the delectable pecan treats they are known for ( which like the fudge ,you can sample before buying. Though previously I would've said pecan logs were my favorite, I have of late moved into the fiddle faddle camp!! YUM is the word. For all you decorators out there seasonal home goods won't disappoint. Children, the toy and T selection is top notch surpassing the Cracker Barrel and guys if you need to stay busy, pick out some groomsmen gifts or get yet another desktop book of quotes then they have you covered as well. Stop on your way down to the beach for fashion hats and caps not to mention dresses and babywear to turn heads ( puffy sleeves galore ) . And if you need to just let the children run around before the rest of the trip , there is a large clear grassy hill just for that beyond the picnic tables. Rockers and ferns on the shady porch available for all non runners, and even a dog/pup watering station. Magnets and coffee cups sure, but oh so much more.

What a wonderful stop!! Delicious samples!! We bought fudge, honey glazed pecans, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, gifts, and more!! So happy we stopped!!

Great store. I have stopped here many times on road trips down south. The pecans themselves are amazing. They have so many different variety’s. They really have something for everyone Nut wise. Every time I’ve been in the bathroom here it is very clean. The staff are always super friendly and helpful. The coffee is amazing. I always get at least two pounds when I go. On my last visit I decided to try there lunch. It was very reasonably priced and delicious fried chicken! I highly recommend stopping by!

Monuments & Statues
The Boll Weevil Monument is a statue erected to honor the locals' resilience and adaptability in pivoting from cotton farming to peanut farming after being affected by pests. The monument stands as a symbol of perseverance and innovation. The statue holds great significance and draws tourists who come to witness its beauty and learn about the history behind it. It was unveiled during the Fall Festival on Main, which creates a lively atmosphere with numerous vendors selling their wares.
Fascinating to say the least, the monument stands in the middle of a four-way intersection! It's a beautiful statue, to remind you of something so small that could create such a large devastation.

We were passing through town on a road trip from Florida to North Alabama. Unfortunately we pulled into this area at 7:00 p.m. and all the shops were closed. There was absolutely nothing we could do so we took this one picture and headed out of town to our hotel. But during the few minutes that we were there we met a gentleman who told us the story of how when he was in high school the students would take turns stealing The boll weevil off of the statue as a prank. 🤣 Kids!
C C — Google review
I came for the statue, but stayed for the shops. Beautiful statue of a woman... holding a boll weevil... the statue is in the middle of an intersection, so take care getting photos. Plenty of parking available. Loads of cute shops within walking distance.
Alison W — Google review
Great stop! Downtown full of cute shops. We had fun.
Tamara W — Google review
It’s cool but it is in the middle of a busy intersection and not really safely accessible. It is pretty cool though and the story behind it is interesting. Nothing to go out of your way to see though.
Michael C — Google review
The town could have erected a statue of George Washington Carver, who developed peanut butter and made the peanut crop profitable after the boll weevil devastated the cotton crop, as stated in the narrative. But instead they built a statue of an insect. Do you think they chose not to erect a statute of George Washington Carver because he was an African American?
Galen B — Google review
This was a neat monument however, being in the middle of intersection made it a little difficult to enjoy closeup. Downtown Enterprise was very nifty! There's an eclectic mix of clothing, restaurants and specialty shops. Including a photography studio, Ballroom Dance class, Shopaholic, Simply South Boutique, You Nique Boutique, Daughter Dear Boutique pOpshelf, Corks & Cattle Restaurant, to man a few! They also have unique year round events!

This place is absolutely amazing. I have been to this museum twice since 1995 and it’s truly a hidden gem. Located on base, it will require base access, but definitely worth stopping by and seeing the facility and aircraft. A few one off prototypes and even some historical birds present and on display. The R66 Comanche helicopter and super 68 helicopters are located here as well and can be viewed! Again can’t recommend enough and anyone visiting the Gulf Coast who is interested in air power and helicopters should definitely take the time to swing by and see what all is here to offer!

Great enjoyable history here! Came with my 10 year old sister and she loved it as well. Much more stuff than what’s in the pictures and has a very nice gift shop. It’s on base though so make sure you get a visitors pass(free) located at the visitor center near the base entrance

Free to enter with pass for base. Outside area is great for pictures, and so is the inside. Gidtshop and clean facilities. Elevator access makes seeing all parts of the museum possible, I went when I was still on crutches. Probably one of the best things to do in the area, can get kinda busy on Saturdays

This museum has been so special to me since childhood and remains so today. The people at the desk are always friendly, the museum is easy to navigate, and it has such great displays and information. I used to beg my father to bring me every weekend and now as an adult I love to bring my own child.

Incredible exhibits chronicle aircraft and people from the birth of aviation through the present day. Many unique fixed and rotor wing aircraft in interactive and static displays. Many stories of heroes from all wars that Aviation played a role in. Exhibits both indoors and out. Plan for 3 or more hours. Easy access and several restaurants right on base.
Cris K — Google review
From the Wright Brothers to today's drones, this collection has them and everything in between. A very well curated and fascinating look into where Army Aviation has been, where it is now and where it will be tomorrow. There is a well stocked gift shop inside the museum. Definitely worth the visit!
