Definitely recommend ! 🤩🤩🤩10/10 I took more videos than photos but here are a few petting zoo pics.

Low key affair. Perhaps great fun for very small children. Teens and adults will most likely find the attractions a little boring. Maze is ho-hum. Animal petting area is basically a small pin with a few simple animals. Hay ride didn't appear to have any hay on the trailer. That shouldn't be hard to fix. On a positive note the staff was very polite and safety seemed to be a chief concern. So if you do have middle school and younger children this would be a fun family outing for them. Pricing is also very reasonable for what is delivered.
Jason H — Google review
This place exceeded the expectations of both me and my husband! We had a great time here for date night, getting lost in the corn maze, admiring the farm animals, and so much more. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to have a lovely fall time outing.
Emma H — Google review
We absolutely love coming here and doing all the fall things as a family! The staff are great and super friendly! Prices are very reasonable and I love the picture taking places they have for everyone!!
Destinee E — Google review
We went to the maze this week. The maze itself was challenging and fun. You need to be able to walk at least an hour and it is flat so it's not very challenging physically. It is so much fun to get through the maze and you have to answer questions in categories to get clues on left and right turns. The pumpkin hollow opens at 8:00 after dark and it has beautiful carved pumpkins that are lit up and so much fun to walk through. These pumpkins are not real and carved with Dremel tools by artists and super worth it to go see. The fire pits are by reservation only but if the parties leave early and you don't have a reservation, the fire pit Master keeps the fire going for you till they close. There's also a fairy tale maze for small children, but as an adult I enjoyed it. Our dog did everything at the farm with us. We also did a hay ride and that was fun. The hayride takes you out to a pumpkin patch and you can get off and pick pumpkins. I didn't eat any of the food because I'm on a weight loss journey. But I understand the brownies are very good. The grounds are beautiful and lots of opportunity for pictures. This is a great place to go to just have some fun and relax.

Kids loved At'l Do Farms, they had a blast, 5 hours of activities that kept them busy, The loved the Tractor ride to the pumpkin Patches 🎃 also the little barrel rides behind the Tractor in the corn field, horse back rides, animal barn and the huge corn Maze 🌽 Can't forget the lighted Pumpkin Trail after dark.... highly recommend spending an afternoon here, love the option they give us to bring in our own drinks and snacks, but don't miss out on their fresh Kettle Corn and Roasted. This is our 2nd year, we'll be back next year.
Anna N — Google review
Such a fun family activity! It was so refreshing to do something together that was actually affordable. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced, and admission was the same. Once you’re in, you really don’t have to spend anything else unless you want food. We’ll definitely be making this a new family fall tradition!
Kristin J — Google review
Fun as always. A great place to enjoy the fall time. There is a pumpkin trail, hay ride, horse rides, a whole are to feed the pigs and goats, an area to enjoy camp fire, snacks and drinks for sale, and of course the maze(they provide maps and hints to follow). Great for family, friends, school events, party events, and even if your enjoying the festivities by yourself. I recommend coming when it's sunset time, the lights make it a beautiful place to see!

Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge

Wildlife refuge

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Wide open beautiful area. Secluded and you may not see many visitors. People come here to view migrating cranes, but we came here for a hike. There doesn’t appear to be camping allowed, since the road to the visitor center and campsites is blocked off. Overall, good natural area.
Collin R — Google review
Not worth the trip as there was not really anything to see I went to take pictures of birds and some landscape photos but it was very bare and not much to really look at. But it did give us a nice bit of time to get out of town for a few hours.
Robert G — Google review
Ample parking, not busy. Restrooms available. No scenery or shade. No office presence either. More walk than hike.
Tibor T — Google review
Interesting place to visit if you have some free time and want to see what West Texas truly used to look like. Going here at the right time of the year you have a better chance of seeing some of the migratory birds that pass through this area which I did not during my visit. Nevertheless, it was still an awesome sight to see Texas wilderness.
Jeffrey J — Google review
This was cool. It looks really impressive on the overhead view on GPS and it’s interesting how it looks comparatively from the ground. I personally wouldn’t choose to camp here but it would be a place to stay for a night if you were passing through. The office/visitors center looked closed to us so we didn’t stop in. Got some photographs on my camera and continued on.
Abrams S — Google review
Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge is the oldest wildlife refuge in Texas (built by the WPA in 1935). It features several manmade saline playa lakes, a prairie dog town, some short hiking trails, and a free campground. The Refuge is busiest in the fall and winter months when the migratory waterfowl are in residence. In the spring and summer the Muleshoe NWR offers solitude and a glimpse of what the primordial prairie looked, sounded, smelled, and felt like. The campground is first come first served and features a handicapped accessible parking site, two pit toilets, non-potable water, picnic tables, and charcoal grills (not always available for use, check fire restrictions before planning to use them). I've been here a few times with my family, and it offers a chance to connect with seas of grass, boundless wind, wide open skies, and (after it rains) a scent of brine. There are prairie chickens, prairie dogs, jackrabbits, and deer in residence year round. We always see wildlife here, but we rarely see other people. T-Mobile has excellent coverage across the whole refuge. There's a nice highway department picnic area on the road between the halves of the refuge. It's located on a butte and offers a nice view of the refuge. Check it out!
Jarod P — Google review
Brand new Pit Toilets, benches, very few places to legally build a fire but one is big enough for Pegan Rituals, cell service AT&T-Verison, small 1 mile "hike" with really old signs, really old like it's a guessing game to read them while the plant it was informing you of has rotted away decades ago.
Night H — Google review
In the Lubbock area, this is one of my favorite places to visit in the Autumn. It's a beautiful landscape, and it is emblematic of what the Llano Estacado landscape looked like before settlement. This is also a great bird watching location.

Hillcrest Park Zoo

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Accessible animal park whose small collection includes a Bengal tiger, giraffes, alligators & bears.
It was such a neat zoo. Josey in the education building was amazing and opened the building for us to see. A keeper working on the lemur exhibit was a doll and told us some fun facts about the lemurs. The gift shop workers were very sweet also and even though they were closing down for a meeting they allowed us to shop. The animals all looked great especially your camels 🐫 😍. We drove from Amarillo, TX to check the zoo out. Definitely would recommend.
Jessica H — Google review
I love going to this zoo, I try to go every now and then. There's lots of different animals, and it seems like a little changes every time I visit. It's only $6 for an adult entry. I typically visit during the weekday mornings, and it's almost never busy. Most times, I'm the only one there. I love it! There's signs that teach you about the animals and whatnot. It's also a great place to have a walk. I just wish the zoo was better maintained. It can, at times, look a bit uncared for with overgrown grass and trash. I also wish some of the exhibits were larger because some seems way to small for the animals. Some animals even seem sad and/or stressed. But I guess that's most zoos unfortunately. Overall I'm still happy there's a decent zoo in Clovis!
Terrin D — Google review
I brought my 2 kids here for a mini vacation for Spring Break. I read a few reviews before deciding between visiting Clovis or staying in Lubbock. We visited on Saint Patrick’s Day. The admission is inexpensive. Located in a park. This place isn’t bad, but it definitely needs some TLC and updates. It isn’t big, but isn’t small. Perfect weather. My favorite animals to see were the giraffes! We got to see them drink and eat. There are many benches, and places to sit to watch the animals or enjoy a picnic for lunch! Lots of shade. Very convenient and much appreciated. My son really enjoyed the reptiles! They had their own area. Since it wasn’t at all busy or crowded, we took our time and stayed for about 2 hours. It was very nice to not feel rushed. Some of the animals were sleeping, but we came back around and were able to see some of them wake. You do feel a bit sad for these animals, but they didn’t look or seem to be mistreated. In fact, when you purchase something from the gift shop, the money goes towards expanding tiger’s area and I’m sure other updates to the zoo! I highly recommend purchasing something to help out or donating! Gift shop had decently priced snacks and souvenirs. My daughter picked a monkey from there, and has slept with it every night since our visit. Bathrooms very clean! The lady who work in the gift shop was very kind and informative. My kids loved the visit. Overall, we had a nice experience and will be back. :)
KayEm — Google review
This is a really small zoo. I believe they do animal rescue, but not positive on that. They have lots of geese, ducks, and peacocks, along with an Elk, two camels, red kangaroos, spider monkeys, lemurs, birds, etc. Some animals were missing, like the bisons and giraffes. They also have ostrich, emu, zebras, wolf, and 2 bears.
Laura H — Google review
This zoo was amazing! Lots of shade, beautiful landscaping, and amazing animals. We were super impressed.
Lea M — Google review
Pretty zoo for a small town. You can tell they are working on many enclosures to make it better for the animals. All the animals were in great shape as well. However the highlight of the visit was the staff! Staff driving by on at a smiled and waved, the lemur keeper was cleaning their enclosure and stopped to talk to us, and Josey from the HPZ reptile area was amazing! The gift shop was closing for lunch right as we walked up but they opened the door and welcomed us in anyway. Very friendly ladies! Great staff makes a great zoo.
Christy R — Google review
Wonderful place hidden in Clovis, definitely would recommend to visit Hillcrest Park Zoo
Ronnie B — Google review
Honestly, this zoo should shut down or severely downsize. The enclosures are so small and do not look maintained. The animals either pace back and forth or sit there staring into a void like they’re in an asylum. The park does not have the space to accommodate all of the animals in there. It’s sad and cruel.

Norman Petty Recording Studio

Tours of Buddy Holly's record producer's 1950's studios by appointment only.
Amazing hospitality! We literally traveled back in time here. We came to visit and had a very intimate tour which was more than we wished for. Kenneth and his family were so kind to us and literally spent time to show us all around. We got to play the piano and hear some amazing tunes and even meet one of the members from The Roses. If you are wanting to visit a cool spot come here and support the studio. You won’t regret it.
Roxy F — Google review
I was highly impressed of the first hand knowledge from the old fellow giving the tour! So much history was born out of Clovis,NM by Mr Norman Perry. His love of music and wanted to detour from the controlling mob deciding who & what was being aired. Mr. Petty forged a road back in the 50’s
F C — Google review
Such an awesome time today seeing and meeting so many artists that uncle Larry Trider worked with through the years. Lots of good stories.
Stan T — Google review
Wonderful experience and not to be missed . To visit this historical recording studio where some of the finest music was recorded was the highlight of my visit to Texas and New Mexico
BILL W — Google review
The studio has been open for regular public tours in the past but is not at present. But it’s an interesting and evocative place and well worth a look.
Mark M — Google review
An amazing place! Kenneth was a fantastic host! I hope this place is preserved and goes on for many years to come!
Johnny I — Google review
Words cannot express how amazing this place is. The hospitality here is just WOW!! Kenneth was a fantastic and presentable tour leader and his wife was so sweet. They had their family there and after the tour we were able to chit chat a bit and talk about other things. Don’t miss out on going here. Literally a travel back in time and everything looks exactly the same. Then after you can visit the museum of rock n roll.
Indigovox — Google review
I was like a kid in a candy shop. Ken Broad is the nicest man with a rich history of those times. But to be able to sit in Buddy's seat at the kitchen table and hold his coffee cup was amazing. And the stories they can tell you about Norman are priceless. For a man who couldn't read music, he did pretty well.

Blackwater Draw Museum

Museum
History Museums
The Museum is kind of old and simple, however you must take into consideration that in an archaeological field, Clovis is considered as the birthplace of ancient humanity with artifacts that date as much as 12.000 years back. It is one of Americas most important archaeological sites due to the historic importance.
Peter U — Google review
Small, and quiet. This place is quite fun for older audiences Edit: Aliens
Reid B — Google review
Jonathan was extremely knowledgeable and funny! The museum is smaller but it packs a punch for relevance and overall historical significance to not only North America but the Native Americans. I am an avid museum enthusiast and was very impressed. This place is certainly worth the time. It is a diamond for Portales, NM. 10/10 for anyone who loves history.
Scarlett M — Google review
Hours posted on the website are not accurate. Despite being advertised as being open 12pm-5pm on Sundays, the museum was not open on 9/21/2025 when I arrived at noon and waited for 15 minutes. Per the website closures are to be posted on their Facebook page, but there was no info about a closure on 9/21/2025. It was pretty disappointing, having driven hours to get to the museum.
Kyumin L — Google review
Very nice! Pleasant staff. Found a couple books to buy. Informative. Nice activities for kids, including grinding corn with rocks! Entrance is little door a way back and to the left of the museum name.
Jon N — Google review
Loved this! I was a little surprised that they did not have many Clovis points there, but the descriptions of how they were found was fascinating. Even a little Star Trek history!
Lewis P — Google review
Small museum. We were the only patrons when we visited. Many small exhibits and most interactive. More could be on the Black Water Draw. But, they had apparently moved the museum fairly recently. Also, there were many exhibits under development. The, I believe, museum director whose office is there was enthusiastic to answer questions, and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. Signage within the building that directs one to the museum could be more obvious and at all entrances. We failed to make the first turn and wandered a bit before finding the museum.
Betsy K — Google review
Very cool little museum at the Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. Extensive collection of clovis point arrowheads found at the nearby archeological site. Interesting unearthed indigenous pottery. Perfect for history and archeological buffs. Thank you!

Billy The Kid's Grave and Visitor Center

We had no idea how interesting this place was. The Billy The Kid Grave and Visitor Center is the cemetery of old Fort Sumpter, which no longer exists. Not only is the grave of Billy the kid here but also the graves of several of his friends, the first wife of Pat Garrett, who shot killed him and at least one of his victims. A lot of Wild West history.
Louis E — Google review
FREE This is just one of the many things that becomes a bonus stop to stretch your legs and to learn about history. I had no idea that this place is where he was buried and I guess I forgot most of the story. It was good to get caught up on and also to get other headstones That were from the 1800s. It is worth a stop for sure. I WOULD RECOMMEND
Cindy L — Google review
Very interesting visit. Albeit Billy the Kid is prominent, the history of the Native Americans and how they were treated should be the focus. Great museum and walking grounds
Mark M — Google review
Awesome history here if you like Billy the kid stuff. The 2 ladies Becca and the Hungarian gal were incredible hosts. Tell them Jinxy sent you!
Jordan K — Google review
Very cool historical exhibit. There is a QR code that you can scan for a free audio tour. There are descriptive plaques for most of the people buried in the cemetery.
Cornelius S — Google review
A bit of history. This is a graveyard filled with graves — not just Billy the Kids. The curators have done a good job improving the site by adding sidewalks.
Grackles T — Google review
I reckon I’m lucky not to be one of Billy the Kid’s victims, so I can stand by his grave and thank him for letting me live to tell the tale.
Yaniv B — Google review
A really interesting stop with a lot of charm and history! The staff member we met was super friendly and even printed out some great local dining suggestions for us, a nice personal touch. They’re in the middle of creating a more curated, room-by-room experience about Billy the Kid, and although it’s not finished yet, you can already see how much better it’s going to be compared to the old museum setup. The grave itself is fascinating to see in person, and I actually think the bars around it add to the story, even if they were put there because the gravestone kept getting stolen. Definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in Old West history!

Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner Historic Site

Mentioned on

History museum
Sights & Landmarks
Monuments & Statues
The Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner Historic Site is a somber place that tells the tragic story of the Navajo and Mescalero Apache people who were forced to live in the Bosque Redondo Reservation. The fort, built in 1862, served as a prison for over 9000 Navajos and 500 captured Mescalero Apaches. More than 2000 Navajos died before they were allowed to return home in 1868.
Heartbreaking but definitely so important to know. This museum was put together and very accurate information. By not only adding the history but also by adding cultural elements, the museum was very well put together.
Allison T — Google review
The Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumpter is a very sobering place. The museum and memorial tells the story of two indigenous American tribes that were relocated and held here from 1863-1868. Many died from the deplorable conditions and lack of food. A well done museum with interesting displays.
Louis E — Google review
A devastating and beautiful memorial mainly about the long walk of diné and ndé peoples. So happy I had time to stop here and walk through the exhibit. Definitely worth the $7 with how powerful it is. I left pretty much speechless. Good selection of books at the gift shop, too.
AED — Google review
You need to come here to feel and see the story of how Native Americans were treated. The museum is amazing as is the outside long walk. Most come here to see Billy the Kid's grave. if you miss this you will be disappointed. Veterans get free admission
Mark M — Google review
I assume I am like a lot of people who didn't realize this monument existed until I drove out to see the Billy the Kid gravesite. It is definitely worth a visit. Many rooms of powerful artwork storytelling. These are parts of American History we all need to know.
Mike G — Google review
It was sad for us to visit, because of what the Indians went thru. But it was educational and that's the message that is being taught. War is terrible for everyone no matter what side your on!
Sjoerd C — Google review
Museum and visitor center are closed until Wednesday morning, but we were able to see Billy the Kid's grave.
Dawne K — Google review
If you know anything about the Long Walk and the Navajo imprisonment at the Bosque Redondo reservation, this memorial may be disappointing. It was to me. None of the structures are original. The museum contains few artifacts. It's mostly composed of murals produced recently and enlarged historical photos, which you can see online. There is no map to the site and little effort to mark where the various features of the fort and reservation were as they existed from 1864-1868. The signs on the walking tour provide scant information. I don't blame all this on the state or people who created and maintain the memorial. It seems like after Fort Sumner was abandoned, the government made little effort to preserve this important historical site or collect artifacts, of which there must have been many. It was a lost opportunity. Most of the former reservation, which was 40 miles square, is now privately owned. Surely many artifacts were probably found on private property. I wonder what became of them.

Billy The Kid Museum

Museum
History Museums
Welcome to the Billy The Kid Museum! What a great stop off through NM. If you are an Old west history buff or just want to see something interesting “ Then Partner mosey on down to this museum! “ Looks small on the outside but you will be pleasantly surprised how much they have on display in side. There is a very nice small display of genuine Billy the Kid artifacts on display in the Billy the Kid room…the curtain and door with bullet holes was eerie ! Lots of great information to read about. So much newspaper articles and pictures to get you interested in find out about this period in the old west. Not just great display of Billy the Kid items but you got to see Pancho Villa and other western characters that shaped that period in time. Lots of personal artifacts to look at and so many other hidden gems, you stumble upon while you walk around. They have a reconstruction of the gravesite of Billy the Kid what was cool ( we had just seen the original up in Fort Summers visitors center for free) and it was great to be able to read it better on the reconstruction. They have so much to look at , you will need plenty of time to walk around and see everything on display. We were there for a few hours and still didn’t get to really study and read about everything, definitely will have to come back again. They have a huge gift shop and something for everyone. Pretty reasonably priced for some of the gifts. Very clean restrooms and decent amount of parking. We were there on a weekday and it was crowded. Staff were very nice and thanked us for coming. I would definitely recommend this museum it’s worth the price of admission and they have a lot to catch your interest and not just Billy the Kid stuff.
Tommy G — Google review
Really cool place with a HUGE gift shop, museum has many things of the era beyond just Billy the Kid stuff and lots of interesting facts and memorabilia. The entry is inexpensive and worth it, stop in even if you don't have time for a full tour of the museum just the shop is worth a stop.
Xavier K — Google review
$6 for seniors or $7 regular entry. I'm surprised there was so much to see inside. It's like taking a step back into the early 1800's. Tons of information about Billy the Kid and his friends. Plan on spending 60-90 minutes seeing everything and reading about all the items and how they relate to Billy. Worth the stop.
Rita F — Google review
Really awesome place, if you like Billy the kid and antiques you will love this place. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the 2 ladies working there were either not having a good day or just don't like there job because they were not pleasant. But I still recommend seeing this it really is awesome.

We made an impromptu stop at this fascinating destination on our return trip to Texas. Although unplanned, the visit proved to be a delightful surprise. The site boasts an impressive array of memorabilia and intriguing facts, with plenty to explore, including an expansive gift shop.

Great local history about Billy the Kid and people from the night he was shot including his friend and owner of the home he was shot in, Pete Maxwell. Also a lot of great historical items from the early 1800s to the 1960s. Great little museum.

We stopped by on a Sunday, and they were closed. But we did see some interesting things on the outside of the museum. We are hoping to go back on a different vacation in the future. Just not sure when.

After a long day of driving through Texas and into New Mexico I stumbled upon Lake Sumner! I was just looking for an out of the way spot to park for the night, to let the dogs out for a little bit before going to sleep for the night.....but WOW! What a pleasant surprise to find this beautiful lake! It was evening when I pulled in. A few people fishing along the shore line, but as I continued into the park further, there were primitive camping sites as well as full hook up sites. I chose to continue on to the "lookout" area, and let me tell you....it was beautiful! From the top of the look out you could see most of the lake below. The area is a perfect spot for watching the sun set or rise....both were beautiful IMO... If you are traveling on hwy 84/60 and you want to add some beauty to your trip, make the drive out to the park. It's only 6 miles off the hwy, but it's well worth it!

Beautiful and quiet lake, so quiet you could hear people from across the lake. We stayed at Pecos Campground site 10 - spots are huge, water and electric worked great and loved the full covered patio and table. Only issue: the entire place is covered heavily in goat heads and stickers.

Very nice campground 30 miles from nowhere. Stayed 2 nights. Roomy site with covered shelter for picnic table. Fire ring provided. Level gravel with concrete pad. Trash can provided at site. 30/20 and water. Dump station provided. Camphost welcomed us after we were set up. He gave us area information and told us to let him know if we needed anything. There is a boat ramp and a playground. Playground had a closed sign and you could see some damage to the canopy. We checked the showers. They were the type that you push a button and the water is on while the button slowly comes out. It lasted about 10-15 seconds per push. We used the shower in our rig. Excellent for viewing the sky at night due to the lack of light pollution. The first morning we got up we had some roadrunners for visitors. The two biggest problems we had here were mosquitoes and goats heads. Tons of mosquitoes at dawn and dusk. Goat heads (stickers) were everywhere. Had to pull about 20 out of the dogs paws. We would definitely stay here again.

This is such a wonderful park, so quiet. The showers need some work far as correct water temperature. Lots sites are level. Boondocking by the Lake . We also had fun with a Road Runner.

What a view, amazing. We pulled off for a little break. The good energy here was just what I needed.

We very much enjoyed our time at Sumner Lake State Park. The campsites are large with nice picnic tables in the Mesquite section. We spotted lots of wildlife! Roadrunners!! The park ranger was super nice and very helpful! This park is a great place for stargazing. On our last night we were able to see the Milky Way! Beautiful night! Would love to visit again!

This park was good, I just came at a bad time. The wind was blowing in from the west at 30mph but I still hit up the basketball court. The wind was strong enough to rock my van. I tried to communicate with the camp hosts Dwight and Becca, but I only heard the sound of dogs barking after a few minutes I left and found my campsite, I didn't talk to a single soul the 48 hours I stayed there, except for an awkward encounter with a ranger in the bathroom area.

Very beautiful and peaceful state park near Ft. Sumner, NM. In the center of it all is a large lake that you're able to view from all angles, including from the water as there are boat ramps. There are many campgrounds, divided between the east and west campgrounds, that are on either side of Lake Sumner. They have grills and campfire spots and park benches, and many have canopies. There's camping and rv parking spots throughout the park as well. There's trails for hiking, fishing, playground, basketball court, among other amenities. You can spot wildlife all over and there are areas with tons of dragonflies near the dam. There's also a dam that you get to drive across. There are self pay spots before entering different areas. I loved it here and will definitely be back.

Route 66 Auto Museum

Specialty Museums
Nestled along the iconic Route 66, the Route 66 Auto Museum is a delightful gem for car enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This charming mom-and-pop establishment showcases an impressive collection of around 30 classic, vintage, and hot rod cars that tell stories of automotive evolution. As you wander through its nostalgic displays filled with memorabilia from the famous highway, you'll find yourself immersed in a world where chrome shines bright and every vehicle has a tale to share.
7-17-25 I don’t know why, but I didn’t ask the ladies name that was working there today, shame on me, she was pleasant and should be acknowledged. Here’s to you, thank you. This was a bonus stop that you can only do when you are doing a road trip. I just never know where you’re gonna be. I love the history of Route 66 back in the day my family had a Hugh connection with that road. We’ve been on most of it, but not all of it and it’s always fun to hit another part. I’m not sure why I had to buy another hat, but I did. The museum was fabulous. Not just the cars, but all the paraphernalia, and the old signs were great.. I WOULD RECOMMEND
Cindy L — Google review
If you are planning a road trip down Route 66, you absolutely must add this stop. Probably in my top 10 of all stops along Route 66. We drove Route 66 from Illinois to New Mexico during Sick 66 Drag and Drive. This location is easy to stop at being right along side the highway. It has plenty of parking for cars or campers. Everyone inside is super friendly. When we stopped here there was a food truck outside. Not sure if that's a regular occurrence but definitely worth trying if they are on site when you visit.

Very nice museum & gift shop. Everything is neatly displayed. I enjoyed my visit & shopping in the gift shop for souvenirs. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area! They even have a few vehicles for sale!

The Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa, New Mexico is a hidden gem that every hardcore car enthusiast needs to experience. Packed with over 30 beautifully restored classics, hot rods, muscle cars, and vintage trucks, this place is pure passion on wheels. Founded by local legend James “Bozo” Cordova, every vehicle in the collection reflects hands-on craftsmanship and deep love for automotive history. It’s not just a museum—it’s a working shop, a visual tribute to Route 66 heritage, and even a place where some of the cars are for sale. From the authentic 50s-era vibe to the gleaming chrome and rich backstories behind each ride, it’s a must-stop for anyone who lives and breathes horsepower.

Blue Hole

Water
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Clear blue pool of water, with underwater caves & a 17° temperature, popular with swimmers & divers.
This has got to be one of the top 10 places to take your family on vacation / swimming $10 to park ypur car, picnic tables and plenty of shade. 61 degree water. Great place for little kids as well.
Trevor D — Google review
Breathtaking nature, clear blue water, and a peaceful vibe—don’t miss it! The Blue Hole is truly a hidden gem in the New Mexico desert! The natural beauty of the crystal-clear, deep blue water surrounded by rugged stone is absolutely breathtaking. It’s one of those places that surprises you with how stunning it is in person.
Ashley H — Google review
Visited the Blue Hole in New Mexico on a Friday. Parking was free that day (normally $10), and I even managed to park my truck bobtail with no problem. The place is amazing — very few people around, crystal-clear but freezing cold water, and you can swim or even schedule a scuba dive. There are picnic tables, a small museum, and a souvenir shop. A great spot to relax and spend quality time with family.
Valdemar — Google review
Such a GORGEOUS place. The water is literally SO COLD, but so refreshing at the same time. It is also so clear and when you look down with goggles on, it is insane to be able to see straight clear to the bottom. Really cheap to go to, as well.
Keziah M — Google review
This was the best adventure for the whole family. It's 62 degrees all year round. and a see through lake. Amazing place.
Carleigh D — Google review
My girlfriend and I stopped by here on a Grand Canyon Road trip in July. This place was a highlight of the trip. It was only $10 for a parking pass. The parking was right next to the hole itself. They have lifeguards on duty. There are picnic areas, bathrooms, and a gift store. The water looks amazing. I'm now planning on seeing blue holes anywhere I travel. It was also great that you can swim in it or even dive into it from the natural rock. We jumped in a couple times (cold water) and had a picnic there. We saw some scuba divers show up to go down it too. It's really spectacular to see and swimming in it was amazing.
JC E — Google review
The lake is not wide or large however the interesting thing about it is depth. I visited in winter but I imagine it’s great to get in a dive in the summer.

What a great view! Quiet site. Lovely wildflowers. Clean bathrooms. We really appreciated the shade offered by the concrete shelter that most sites in the Rocky campground loops A and B had. No beach that we could find; just a boat launch. This was a fabulous place to stay after checking out the nearby Blue Hole.
Tesha C — Google review
Beautiful place. If you are tent camping and you want to be close to the bathroom, reserve a spot located near B26. Also, request a covered picnic table (in case it rains). Lots of stickers and ants so be observant of your dogs feet if you are bringing them. Great area to go fishing or boating. Really enjoyed our experience.
Windi F — Google review
This is a large park with plenty of room between sites. The site I reserved had both water and 30 amp hookups available. There is also an RV dump station area, but I didn't use it. There are multiple trails in the park that are fairly well maintained. Unfortunately, the water level for the lake was so low that one of the trails to access it only led to a dry site.
Penny S — Google review
2nd trip here each time rain forecast and each time we got a rainbow. Nice bathrooms with showers. Nearby attractions blue hole, route 66 sign. Ants are plentiful. Electric nice to have.
Kathleen V — Google review
Nice state park. We were there over teh 4th of July . Campground was full. Many sites don't have water hookup , only electric. There are alot of campsites and minimal bath houses with 2 showers that share 1 area to dress and dry off. So privacy was super limited. There was always a wait to shower.
Boxer M — Google review
Feels like a bit of a hidden gem! It’s only about 10 miles off the interstate. Easy access to the sites and online booking and reservation. Restrooms with showers and freshwater access. Nice little trail to walk down by the water. I saw my first tarantula!

Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge Admin Building And Visitor Contact Station

Visitor center
Nature & Parks
National Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Visited Feb 2025. The visitor's center has wonderful staff, so engaged to explain the surroundings and animals and birds. (A huge elk herd!) Inside there are many photos and exhibits, plus a sand box you can put moulded animal tracks in to see what they look like. Lots of books and exhibits for children and adults. The building has long-lens scopes to see outside, and the path outside has some telescopes to look at the birds on and near the pond. The restrooms are spacious and clean. Parking is easy. Away from the center, along the loop surrounding the refuge, there are paths and overlooks to view birds and wildlife in the area and on the lakes. The last time I was here was about 30 years ago - it has vastly improved with the visitor's center and other amenities along the loop.
Anna G — Google review
Sadly, the visitors center is closed for remodeling, the trail was not well marked and the information boards along the trail were peeling off. What little bit we did walk was very peaceful and it was relaxing to hear the wind blowing through the prairie grasses. BRING BINOCULARS. We also went to an overlook and again, it needs repair. Only 1 of 2 telescopes was working. We saw several water birds we could not recognize what they were in the distance so binoculars are a must. We did see huge numbers of sandhill cranes and many were doing mating dances, which was interesting. Again, binoculars would have made it better.

This place…It has so much potential but is not well kept. I wasn’t expecting much since the reviews aren’t that great for this place. I did see a few blue birds, a flicker and kestrels. They are few and far between. If you go, enjoy the vastness of the beautiful landscape, but don’t be surprised if you don’t see much wildlife.

Vast riverfront park with multiple camping, fishing, birding & hiking areas along a canyon wall.
This site was excellent with beautiful views at the top of the hill. I wish we had stayed a bit longer. There is a small convenience store in the village nearby but they do not have much. Amazingly friendly and helpful people. The bathrooms at the site were old but everything was working well.
Solange M — Google review
Cute little campground along a river but we wouldn’t stay here again. There are only 20-something campsites , all of different sizes. We camped for one night in late October in a site with electricity for our 27 ft fifth wheel. We were right near the river—in fact, a couple inches higher water level would be all it takes to flood this area. The drive down is scenic on asphalt but there are some right turns. A full sized rig would probably not make it. Pretty but not worth the effort.
Nikki ( — Google review
Beautiful spot, clean campground and wonderful river sounds and lots of playgrounds. The reservation system online kept removing the # of passengers from the vehicle and preventing me from confirming our reservation so we had to complete the form onsite. Very confusing to get that done but otherwise the place is lovely. They even have push button showers although we didn't check the water temp or pressure. We'll have this on our radar for future visits.
Michelle W — Google review
Beautiful secret. Overlook is a must do. Power/water availability at tent sites is non-existent.

Do the hike up over the park, lovely. Dump station closed. Need to share water spigot between campsites. Great pavilions.

Nice place to camp when weather is cooler. If you have A/C, then good to go. River fishing (if water isn’t too high), and nice campsites. There is even a general store in town (no beer though).
Rodney R — Google review
Beautiful park with nice campsites along the river with bluffs on the other side. I’ve been here before with no complaints, but was disappointed this time. Two big trailers on one site right next to me. Dogs off leash, not picked up after and kids walking through my campsite. Made my dogs crazy and I had to keep them inside. Called the office, said they’d be right over. They drove by twice but didn’t stop or talk to anyone, so were no help. The party must have been friends of the manager. They left 2 1/2 hours after check out time.
LuAnn W — Google review
What a lovely campground! The location is deep set into an intimate rural community and lovely valley along the river. Many sites are right on the river or up on a bluff with a bit of a view. Most are in small clusters where you might have a direct neighbor or two, but decent privacy from the rest. Amenities, while not top tier, are better than I'd expect for the price. Take time to enjoy the couple short hikes from camp!

Clines Corners Travel Center

Truck stop
Shopping
Gift & Specialty Shops
Stopping at Clines Corners has been a family tradition for me since childhood, nearly half a century ago. The gift shop offers a wide variety of merchandise—Southwest, New Mexico, alien, Sasquatch, Native American, and more. It’s also a great spot to stretch your legs on the long drive across the high plains. Prices vary; some items are noticeably higher than at other souvenir stops, while others are still quite reasonable for the 2020s. The site also features an ice cream shop, nearby gas, and RV camping. This wasn’t my first visit, and it certainly won’t be my last.
Bryan R — Google review
Interesting, but something seems off. I wasn't comfortable inside. I know it sounds odd but it's the best words I can use to describe being there. They had a wide variety of candies and snacks and tons of souvenirs. Space and alien focus.
Liz L — Google review
This is definitely an interesting place. When we walked in it kind of stunk and it definitely has a dirty travel center/truckstop feel. There’s still a lot of interesting things to look at and the bathrooms while they were not immaculately clean they were serviceable. The store had a variety of things for tourist to pick up. Easy to get into and out of. Would stop there again.
D B — Google review
Never again ! Don't believe the billboards that you see for 20 miles before you get to this place. Bathrooms are not clean as advertised . If you are a truck driver keep riding nobody here is concerned about you. Showers are not clean at 2:30 pm on a Sunday. Parking lot has trash everywhere.I sure wish I would have kept driving. The only thing I won't complain about is the 2 people that work in the subway very nice and hard working

What a unique travel stop along historic Route 66! This location is not only visually distinctive, but it’s also a great place to stock up on snacks, souvenirs, and travel essentials. Ladies, this was a very clean bathroom. Neither the doors nor walls go all the way to the floor, so remember to hang your purse on the hook. The store was well-stocked. Long line today, but we were able to check-out at the candy counter.

Pecos National Historical Park

Historical landmark
Nature & Parks
Former location of an Indian village, Spanish mission, Civil War battlefield & Greer Garson's ranch.
My review is biased: I LOVE anything national park / monument / preserve. This place was really special. It felt off the beaten path. Great store with incredible staff. The trail was perfect for our 10 and 6 year olds. Really great stepping back in time and learning about Native American cultures.
Charles F — Google review
The visitor's center provides a gift shop and an exhibit explaining the history and culture of the Pueblo people who originally lived there, the influence of the Spaniards, and the revolt. The trail is a pleasant hike. Not too difficult. It takes you around the park and you see the remains of a Spanish mission. Great views of the hills surrounding the park.

Another day, another National Park. We were greeted by Ranger Byron and another young lady(can’t remember her name)at the front desk and both were wonderful to meet. They explained all that there was see and explore. My wife and I both enjoy learning history of our country and this one didn’t disappoint. We only walked to the south Pueblo and then drove to the church. It’s so amazing the history in our country and are blessed that we have preserved these for all to enjoy.

Manasicha A — Google review
Pecos National Historical Park, formerly Pecos Ruins National Monument, offers a profound glimpse into the layered history of the Southwest. Upon arrival, the sweeping vistas of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains serve as a dramatic backdrop to the ancient adobe walls. Walking the trails, one can trace the outlines of what was once a bustling pueblo, a crucial trading center connecting the Plains Indians with the Pueblo peoples. The sheer size of the former pueblo, with its kivas and multi-story structures, evokes a sense of wonder about the lives that unfolded here centuries ago. The remnants of the Spanish Mission church stand as a stark reminder of the colonial era, a testament to the cultural clashes and exchanges that shaped the region. Though the ruins of the church is of the later smaller mission built in the 1700’s not the original bigger that was burned during the pueblo revolt of the 1600s, it still i an impressive sight. The park's interpretive signs offer insights into the architectural techniques, daily life, and historical events that transpired within these walls. The sense of quietude that pervades the site today allows for a reflective experience, inviting visitors to contemplate the resilience of the indigenous peoples and the complexities of the past. The landscape itself, dotted with juniper and piñon trees, adds to the feeling of stepping back in time. The visitor center at the park provides information, souvenirs, and rest areas where visitors can enjoy the views. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Additionally, there's a section dedicated to the repatriation of Pecos Pueblo ancestors' bodies, which explains the process of returning their remains to be reburied in their ancestral home. A visit to Pecos offers a rich and immersive experience into the history and heritage of the Southwest.

Great 2.5 mile hike, lots of history here
Kyel L — Google review
Another well preserved Battlefield from the National Park Service. Without the open vistas of the Eastern battlefields visiting Glorieta Pass is vital to understanding how the battle unfolded. Bordering Interstate 25 access to the park is pretty easy. Ensure that you visit Pecos National Historic Park to get the combination to the gate. Also check the hours the park is open as in October 2024 it closed early at 4:30. There are limited facilities but good cell phone coverage of the entire park area. The loop trail is well maintained and easy to follow. The 2.2 miles takes about an hour at an easy pace. Signage was being updated during my visit but the action is pretty easy to follow with the Battlefield Trust maps of the battle.

Gate is kept locked but you can get the code at the visitors center at Pecos National Historic Park. Trail is clearly marked and well maintained. There are 2 choices when using this trail. Main trail is 2.25 miles long. Be prepared for many switchbacks so take plenty of water. The accessible tail is. 3 miles long. Markers along the way that gives very interesting history.

Great history. Need a additional movie at visitor center for this piece of history. Volunteer at desk gives excellent directions to Glorietta Pass Civil War Battlefield. Opened in 1994, this 122-acre native plant & rescue-animal habitat also hosts performances.
What a wonderful rescue sanctuary for birds and animals who can no longer return to the wild. Very lovely facility, they have a Wild West theme and hold some community events throughout the year. So many interesting stories of how the animals came to live here. They all have names and are happy to see you. We thoroughly enjoyed the paved walkway, we didn't get a chance to do the nature trail walk but will come back another time. We had a great time, it's just off the highway and easy to get to.

This is a must see! We stayed with the harvest host program. The animals are so loved and cared for here. You get to see them up close. The hybrid wolf was my favorite. They have a cute western town set up with great picnic spots and beautiful views of the mountains lovely gardens a trail or two to walk along with the walking path to see the animals is concrete looks like some of it was poured by the local Boy Scout group. The animals are the star of the show! The animals seem to enjoy the people coming to see them. My 9 year old loved this stop so much he wants to run a place like this when he grows up. This is a must see! Being from Massachusetts this was a wonderful way to get immersed into New Mexico’s plants, animals and scenery!

My favorite part of this place is that you can tell the staff actually care about the animals - and that the animals genuinely seem to enjoy seeing humans. I felt great supporting Wildlife West and their mission. Highly recommended if you want to bolster your trip with a dose of beautiful nature - while contributing to something you can feel good about. Heidi (the wolfdog) will even come give you a howl! 🐺

We visited a hidden gem of a zoo in Edgewood, not too far from Albuquerque, and had the best time! The place is surprisingly big, and the animals there are so friendly and well taken care of. It honestly deserves way more visitors — we were the only ones there that day, which made the experience peaceful but also a little sad because this amazing place should be shared and appreciated more. You can really tell the animals are happy and used to people. We had so much fun walking around, taking our time, and getting up close to the animals. It’s such a special spot, perfect for a day trip with family or friends. I truly hope more people find out about this zoo — it’s absolutely worth the visit!

My wife found this as a harvest host. An interesting place to stop this nature park takes in wildlife that has been injured and gives them new homes. A very interesting tour. You can see the animals and they’re very well taken care of. They offer room for your RV. They could accommodate a large motorhome along with travel trailers and fifth wheels. There’s no water or electric, but it was a quiet place to rest. Felt very safe in this place it is gated. They open the gate at nine and they are locked at six. They give you a list with an emergency contact number in the event of. In your stay all they ask is for a donation. They do have a nice gift shop.

We went on a Friday an hour before they closed and it was very empty, but we did get to see a lot of animals. The animals are all native to NM but are not necessarily from NM. I wish the glass in some of the exhibits was cleaner. The staff didn't realize we were still in there and locked up before we could leave! Almost got stuck in there with the animals, haha. Maybe don't go too close to when they close.

Amazing place with wonderful owners! Animals are well cared for and friendly and the couple who own the park are super sweet and obviously care deeply for the animals. Highly recommend visiting if in the area, very much worth seeing.
Connie L — Google review
This is an amazing place with many critters to enjoy. The residents are all rescued and are unable to be released into the wild do to injuries or having been imprinted on humans. You wont find a kinder staff. Each animal has its story on a sign on the exhibits along with other educational information. This is a non profit that can use all the help they can get. Please support if you are in the area, or even driving through as it like one minute off of I-40.

The Museum of International Folk Art is an expansive 80,000-sq-ft space celebrating global folk art and culture. It houses a diverse collection of art and artifacts from over 100 countries, making it the world's largest collection of international folk art. The museum offers a vibrant and eclectic experience with exhibits that engage visitors of all ages.
Theres a little bit of everything here for everyone to see! It was a $12 fee for me to walkabout as long as I wanted. I came here for the miniature exhibits & got more than I bargained for. Sadly I had limited time here & I did not have time to visit the other museum directly next door. I enjoyed how the museum is organized here, where they have a vast, diverse majority of displays with only code numbers on them, making it so you need to read through a provided booklet and find more information about the specific exhibit youre looking for more info on. Very interesting and wide selection to look through. Would visit again!

Really a fun and unique museum. The galleries are all very different. My wife and I have been to many art museums but this brings a completely different perspective. We particularly enjoyed the exhibit on South African phone wire weaving which is an amazing demonstration of taking waste and making art from it. We spent about 2 hours wandering which seemed to be a nice amount of time. We were also nicely surprised to find out Wednesday is New Mexican Seniors get in free day.

Amazing and fun place to be. We loved the temporary exhibition the most. There are also some interactive activities throughout. Highly recommended! The museum was free when we were there on Saturday.

This museum is a world tour of the remarkably diverse and talented creations of amateur artisans. The displays are beautifully presented and well-described through interactive QR codes.

We attended the Accessibility Awards and as it was my first visit I was just delighted with the history, beauty and excitement going on! I would have given a 5* but the security woman kicked us out of the museum because we had waters. When she realized she might have been drastic she then took that time to ask if it was just water. She could have asked in the first place. She invited us to finish our tour and I politely declined. Not even an apology. NOT EVEN a HELLO! No one wants to be made to feel like their visit there was unwelcomed. Other than that interaction everyone was very helpful and made the show enjoyable!

We came up to MOIFA on a whim because I wasn’t sure how kid-friendly it was. There is an adorable little play area for kids that my 4 and 7 year old loved. The scavenger hunt was also a lot of fun and engaging for my kids. They loved the exhibit on the art of piñata making. I wanted to go into the beautiful gift shop area but that wasn’t as safe a bet with kiddos, so, next time! Also- kids are free (10 and under if I recall correctly- but double check if it’s relevant to you).

Museum of International Folk Art is an excellent art museum featuring folk art from around the world. It also has an excellent gift shop with items similar to what are displayed in the museum. The museum staff is very friendly and go out of their way to help!

Great museum. We loved the unique exhibit in the basement with the stop motion video. We also enjoyed that many of the exhibits had interactive elements. We enjoyed looking at everything but we wish there were some simple labels (like country of origin and year) in the largest exhibit. It wasn't ideal to always have to be referencing the accompanying booklet. Lastly, telelphone wire art is a very interesting concept that I had never heard of before.

Canyon Road in Santa Fe is a picturesque street lined with over 100 art galleries, studios, and restaurants housed in traditional adobe buildings. It's a favorite activity for visitors to stroll along this legendary road, as well as around the downtown Plaza and the up-and-coming Railyard District. The area is known for its vibrant arts community and offers the opportunity to meet artists during Friday evening gallery openings.
If you love and appreciate art, I highly recommend visiting Canyon Road in Santa Fe. The pleasure of looking at galleries, each with their own unique character and color, makes you lose track of time. The friendly and open manners of each gallery you visit will make you realize why this place is a mecca for art.

A mile long one way street that filled with 80+ galleries of all kinds, a few eateries, the Ahmyo Wine Garden, and shops that sell cloth and jewelry. It begins at the junction with Paseo De Peralta, and pretty much ends at Santa Fe Teahouse & Bistro (821 Canyon Rd) and Art Box (901 Canyon Rd) on either side of E Palace Ave. Paseo De Peralta (means Peralta’s Promenade or Peralta’s Walk) is a major street in Santa Fe, named after Don Pedro de Peralta (1584?-1666), the Spanish colonial governor of New Mexico who established Santa Fe as the capital in 1610. The customers are mostly tourists.

Sights & Landmarks
Nestled at the end of East San Francisco Street, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi is a stunning architectural gem that dates back to the late 19th century. Commissioned by Bishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy, this grand cathedral took 15 years to complete and reflects his vision to elevate Santa Fe's religious landscape beyond its traditional adobe roots.
The cathedral is a prominent landmark near Santa Fe’s historic plaza, and the docents are friendly and eager to share details regarding the restoration process, including the extensive painting and window preparations. Choir concerts seem to occur frequently, and the grounds are tree-lined and peaceful.
Path F — Google review
This is a beautiful architectural and artistic place to visit. Though I am not Catholic, the basilica is a place of beauty and peace to worship Jesus. Everywhere you look there is a memorial to Christ sacrifice. Which is essential to redemption. As a Protestant, I would have loved to see a memorial to His resurrection. This is victory over death and proof that God has accepted this sacrifice and promises to fulfill all that was given to Jesus, we have our assurance that our salvation is secure.

The cathedral is beautiful inside, radiating a deep sense of community. There’s a prayer book where visitors can write down the names of loved ones they want prayers for. A heart-shaped wooden stand holds rosaries in different colors - I picked a pink one. The crucifix glows in a glorious shade of orange, surrounded by images of saints, while the stained-glass windows fill the place with vibrant light. There is also a lovely store inside that adds to the charm of the place.

During our family holiday in Santa Fe to visit relatives, we took the opportunity to explore the downtown area and were drawn to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. The Romanesque architecture is stunning, and the interior offers a serene atmosphere that invites reflection. The stained glass windows and religious artwork are truly inspiring. We also appreciated the peaceful prayer garden and the informative plaques that provide insight into the cathedral's rich history. The gift shop offered a variety of meaningful items, adding to the overall experience. This cathedral is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, art, or seeking a moment of tranquility in the heart of Santa Fe.

The Inn & Spa at Loretto is a luxurious property with pueblo-inspired architecture and a spa, pool, and chic restaurant. The property is perfect for those looking to escape the everyday hustle and bustle of life. With its beautiful architecture and convenient location, the Inn & Spa at Loretto is a must-stay for anyone visiting Santa Fe.
I've been here all of 6 hours so far on a Thursday. Very pleasantly surprised I was able to check in very early. Had a excellent cocktail, booked a very short notice massage, and spent time at the beautiful pool. Nick at the spa was incredible. Absolutely recommend him! Planning on more time at the pool and hot tub after dinner. Loving my stay so far. Excellent staff.

The Inn is located in an incredible location within walking distance of almost anything you would like to do in historic Santa Fe. Parking is convenient and efficient with valet parking included in the amenity fee. The interior of the hotel is clean but a tad dated. While not luxurious, its a beautiful hotel and will please most travelers. The rooms are also clean and comfortable with a cute, plush teddy bear awaiting your arrival. The coffee bar, Crafted, in the hotel is a major plus serving flavorful coffees and tasty pastries. Furthermore, although we didn't visit it during our stay, the "Living Room" in the hotel is a hub of activity serving drinks, lite bites and even has live music. All in all, a pleasant stay in this historic hotel.

As owner of an independent 5-star resort in Asia (Plantation Bay, “a Real Resort with a Real Spa”), I have a lot of sympathy for independent hotels, but felt that I was not correctly treated here. First, the location is very very good, right in the center of Old Santa Fe and surrounded by restaurants and art galleries, some churches. I chose a Vista King, which for about $535 (including a $35 resort fee when there’s no resort to speak of) I assumed would deliver value for money at least in room fittings and view. It turned out that my patio area had no privacy and overlooked a parking lot. So much for Vista. The room itself was very tired-looking, not like the booking.com photo at all, and so was the hotel, with a generally depressing interior appearance, though the outside looks great. Again speaking as a professional hotelier, I would venture the entire hotel hasn’t been remodeled in at least 40 years. The bathroom layout is poor and the fixtures were several plumbing generations old. The bed was comfortable but too high off the floor. Many elements were not consistent with a 4-star description, such as a fireplace with just a candle in it, plain painted-plywood doors and panels, lamps with Daylight bulbs, just one electrical outlet for the credenza holding the refrigerator, the coffee-maker, and a lamp (so to run the coffee-maker I had to unplug the lamp). The staff are pleasant and efficient, which made up a bit, but I felt I was overcharged. If my room was not typical of the hotel, then the front desk staff gave me a “last-to-sell” room on the assumption that as an Asian I wouldn’t know any better. I do know better. I’m going to keep calling out every hotel that gives me an inferior room for the price, and/or an inferior room because of my race.

We stayed here a couple of nights on a business trip so the room was paid for but it was indeed a small room for several family members. The balcony was nice and the view was phenomenal. It's charming but there are a few bugs to work out in the service department. Overall, okay and it is a historic place. Next door has the miraculous staircase that we went to go see. It's walking distance to the beautiful plaza.

The king room was very spacious. We had a corner balcony that looked out over the pool and had a great view of the mountains. Many amenities at this hotel. We used the spa and had fabulous massages and facials. We ate some light bites and had a drink at The Living Room. Staff is friendly and helpful, valet is great and rooms are clean. The location is everything. You are central to all the shops and churches if you stay here. Would book again!

Loretto has been lovingly restored, upgraded, and maintained. It truly is a beautiful Santa Fe style place. The beds were super-comfy with top-quality linens, the bar is delightful with lots of comfy couches and a big, warm fireplace. The pool & hot spa area is modern and offers private spaces. Topping it all off is a truly grand coffee shop, helpful and friendly staff throughout the without hovering or obsequiousness. The restaurant is good for a quick bite, and you're steps away from great dining options. This is now my new 'home' when I come to Santa Fe.
Margaret L — Google review
The only positive thing I have to say is there’s free coffee. Otherwise, this was a really strange lodging experience. For how expensive it is, you would expect just a minuscule of luxury. It is listed as “high-end,” but that was absent here. The stay in this hotel was only comparable to living in some sort of cave or hut. The staff was kind, though the tall male host was very odd. The valet also was never at their post and made getting the car a long and unpleasant process. The place doesn’t smell very pleasant, just kind of musty. The lack of any mirror in the room was inconvenient. The IRON had black gunk on it that absolutely RUINED a perfect pair of white pants meant to wear to a wedding… And lastly, they put this cute little stuffed bear on the bed in your room, and don’t tell you that if you take it home, they charge you $35! I slept with that bear for the entirety of my stay just to find out it’s not included, and that they’re going to put it back in the room if I don’t want to be charged. I wonder how many drooled on it before I did. 2/10. Save your money.
Alex V — Google review
The Inn was absolutely wonderful to stay in, and the staff was the best. Hunter helped us upon check in with places to go, and Nikki was great to provide places to have breakfast and Ben served us the most delicious meal I have had in a long time. Even the General Manager stopped what he was doing to help when we accidentally locked the key in our room. It was expensive but the quality was worth it and more. These three, Hunter, Nikki and Ben went above and beyond with their helpfulness and service. if you want the perfect place to stay in Santa Fe, this is the place to be.

Santa Fe Plaza is a historic city center that reflects traditional Spanish Colonial cities. Resembling destinations in Mexico and Central America, it features ornate historic buildings surrounding a large plaza where people relax and soak in the special atmosphere. Since its establishment in 1610, the plaza has been central to daily life, hosting centuries of festivities, events, and fairs. The New Mexico History Museum serves as an educational resource and local landmark, offering insights into the diverse experiences of New Mexico's people.
The Santa Fe Plaza, located right in the heart of downtown, was one of the highlights of our recent trip to New Mexico. We loved exploring its historic charm, including beautiful old churches and the Palace of the Governors. The area is filled with great spots that make the visit worthwhile, for instance, restaurants, art galleries, boutiques, bookstores, museums, and more. We had a fantastic day soaking in the culture and atmosphere.

The plaza offers a surreal and peaceful atmosphere, featuring quaint shops constructed with Adobe architecture. Occasionally, you can enjoy the serene experience of Native Americans playing and singing their spiritual music. It’s an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll during the morning and evening hours, as it remains uncrowded at these times.

Absolutely stunning place. This place has the vibes, the feel of the celebrations. Vibrant, colorful and playful - that’s the feel that you get while at the Santa Fe plaza. Multiple gift shops, art galleries, churches & cathedrals, shopping places and exceptional eateries. The plaza cafe being the best example. There is always a mood of celebration in the air. We loved the vibrance of the place. La Fonda being the central point of attraction for a great downtown.

The Santa Fe plaza, with its quaint little stores, colorful artwork, and sun-warmed adobe pillars, makes for a charming stroll that can fill a day beautifully. The atmosphere is lively, and we came across a market where artisans were selling jewelry. The walkability of the plaza makes it easy to pop into art galleries, and catch a glimpse of historic landmarks. The place could be even more lively with pop-up sports, or dance battles.
Bartika D — Google review
Nice place to take the whole family, to experience a different culture. There's lots of shops, museums, art galleries and excellent restaurants and cafes to choose from. We even got to see a traditional dance performed by one of the native tribes of New Mexico.

A National Historic landmark in downtown Santa Fe district and a must see for first time visit to the area. A small lovely green space to sit and relax. Today the central Soldier’s Monument remains damaged after protestors toppled down the obelisk and defaced the base in October 2020 during an Indigenous People’s day event. The monument was controversial due to a plaque referring to "savage Indians," and the protesters used ropes and chains to pull down its tiers. The Palace of the Governors sits across the plaza while the plaque marking end of the Santa Fe Trail on the other end. Free to visit. No parking.
Tyler D — Google review
No visit to Santa Fe would be complete without starting here. Plus you’ll overhear the “local” tour guides (easy to spot as they’re all wearing Steve Erwin adjacent outfits) talking to large groups and decide you’re much better off navigating the city solo. Also plenty of dubious Chinese souvenirs masquerading as local turquoise etc in the colonnades. Still, it is beautiful. And very central 🤣🤦‍♀️

The New Mexico History Museum, located just a short walk from Santa Fe Plaza, is housed in a 17th-century adobe governor's palace. It offers exhibits that trace the history of the state and its Native American inhabitants. The museum also features eight unique shops offering a variety of items such as apparel, furnishings, jewelry, accessories, music, movies, and Native American art.
GREAT MUSEUM!! Start here in Santa Fe!! Plan 2 hours or more as there is so much to see and learn about New Mexico history dating back hundreds of years to the present day. We purchased the $30 per person New Mexico cultural pass good for one year that has one-time admission to this museum and several others in Santa Fe as well as throughout the state. We highly recommend the docent tours if you can attend one. It offers a 45 minute comprehensive tour of the main floor museum area and helps orient you and set the stage for the many other exhibits at the museum.

This place is awesome. As a local born and raised in Santa Fe, I love how this place represents and showcases New Mexico. The exhibits are always interesting, and rotate frequently enough to keep it fresh. As a long time Zozobra fanatic, I was more than excited to check out the exhibit. Worth the visit alone. The Oppenheimer exhibit was also very interesting. Love that there’s stuff for kids too.

Very cool place offering a detailed timeline of New Mexico’s history. Plan on taking a few hours here to try and get the whole experience in. The plus is that it is in Santa Fe.

My wife and I really enjoyed this museum during a recent Honeymoon trip. If you see just one museum in Santa Fe (you will see more of course) this is the one to see. One learns the grand sweep of New Mexico history from the many displays. The big takeaway we had was that the Spanish were in New Mexico (including Santa Fe) for quite a long time. The attached "Palace of the Governors" is quite old, much older than the U.S. as a country. I was frustrated by not finding a book along the lines of "A Short History of Santa Fe" anywhere in the places we visited, including the museum's gift shop (I did see a Short History of New Mexico). I ended up buying a book online called "Yesterday in Santa Fe: Episodes in a Turbulent History" by Marc Simmons which met my need for a book like that. So far so good. Stay at a B&B or hotel close to the downtown to make walking tours and museum access easy as parking downtown is a challenge.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico is a tribute to the iconic artist known as the 'Mother of American Modernism.' The museum showcases rotating exhibits featuring O'Keeffe's paintings, sculptures, and sketches. Visitors can explore her innovative perspective on landscapes through pieces like From the Plains and Jimson Weed.
Highly recommended! It’s so worth the trip! It was really nice to get to see other styles of her work aside from the famous flowers. The museum also did a great job painting her as a person who really lived a full life. You should buy a ticket in advance as the place is quite small and cannot accommodate too many people at a time. We went there early in the morning and it was better since it was not too crowded yet.

Will return. What a treat: we enjoyed two hours private tour at the museum of Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986). She's my top three artist. I even bought a matching flowery dress when I went to see one of her exhibits in New York a few years ago. This museum was opened in 1997. It's small (Santa Fe is a small town!) and the paintings they've, are rather small too. I think the museums in New York and DC have far more magnificent 气势磅礴 works of hers. "Mother of American modernism", was born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Virginia and the Teachers College, Columbia University. Her eventual husband Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946) was a photographer and modern art promoter, who held an exhibit in New York for her in 1917. He would divorce his fellow photographer/artist Emmeline Obermayer in 1924 and married O'Keeffe the same year. The frames: they look thin. The docent said they were designed by the artist herself. Reportedly can prevent bugs as well as wine (they do rent out the museum space). O'Keeffe was often the harshest judge of her own work, and even went so far as to destroy paintings that did not meet her standards. In some cases this was because a work had been damaged-including damage that she considered to have been done by careless conservators. She had been visiting New Mexico (Santa Fe, Taos, etc.) during her marriage. After his death in 1946, she soon moved to New Mexico for the rest of her life; spending the last few years in Santa Fe and passed away there. Among list of artists who enjoyed success and recognition during their own lifetime, she was the only female artist among the 10 men: Pablo Picasso Leonardo da Vinci Michelangelo Claude Monet Pierre-Auguste Renoir Rembrandt Salvador Dalí Andy Warhol Georgia O'Keeffe Henri Matisse Paul Cézanne Till 1986, her works fetched the highest amount at the auctions, among female artists. Now her works only trail behind Yayoi Kusama (1929-) and Joan Mitchell (1925-92), one is still alive and one dead six years after her. She enjoyed cooking, perhaps was also the farm to table pioneer. The exhibits of her kitchen wears, pots, pans and notebooks are hers but her Leica camera on display wasn't, the museum explained that she used the same model. Love the honesty. One thing I thought she was above the rest was she didn't sign her works, because she believed her distinctive and unique style would be easily recognized. Which is so true. The female docent said, "she said, 'you don't sign your face, do you?'" A little (or a lot) like Marguerite Duras (1914-96), or any elderly person who relies on a much younger companion. O'Keeffe hired an assistant Juan Hamilton (John Bruce; 1946-) in 1973, after suffering vision lose. He was 27, a divorced potter at the time. She left her estate to him, but to avoid lengthy litigation, he gave up much of that estate (houses and paintings ...) because "if he were to fight that fight, he would spend 10 to 15 years, which would be an entire career, and neither Miss O’Keeffe (how he loved to call her) nor he would ever want that." O'Keeffe was captivated by the view of Cerro Pedernal (Flint Mountain), which has been a sacred and significant site to many Indigenous and Hispano communities for thousands of years. O'Keeffe's own immense love and respect for this mountain is exhibited in her numerous depictions of the view from her front yard. According to the docent, her ashes are spread here.

My visit to this museum left me pensive, caught in the quiet gravity of O’Keeffe’s vision - a vision that clings to reality while daring to transcend it. One piece stopped me in my tracks: a gray crucifix pierced by a dark red heart. I stood before it, transfixed. Its stark lines seemed to pulse with unspoken stories-sorrow, sacrifice, perhaps love’s quiet endurance. The painting’s neat composition belied its emotional weight. The museum weaves O’Keeffe’s life into a vivid tapestry. Her robes, and her art supplies are displayed with care. Then there are the bones. Her collection of bones struck me as primal, and profound. The Georgia O’ Keeffe museum isn’t just a collection of art; it’s an invitation to pause, to feel, to question.

I learned so much about Georgia. I loved seeing different stages of her art work. I also loved how many people were there sharing our common love of her art. I liked the way. It was laid out and you could enter different rooms to view different stages. Seeing her art up close, seeing her belongings and her supplies. I just loved this experience. I would highly recommend this museum and BEFORE the house tour. That is how we did it. A lot of the art we saw at the museum played into the tour of her house. The staff were friendly and informative. You like art, then head here.

I did the free audio tour. A lot of information is packed into the audio descriptions, and you actually want to walk faster than the audio tour allows. I encourage you to take a seat on a bench and look at the work while the audio is going. They even have classical music as part of the tour, naming classical music and artists she and Arthur Steiglitz had in their home and listened to while she painted. Every piece is magical, simple or classic, or preeminent Georgia O'Keefe. They have a movie bio of her life playing, and they also have a movie about the Téwa, renamed Pueblo by Spanish colonizers, artists who made various art pieces and wrote letters, between 2023 and 2025, as an answer to Georgia O'Keeffe's cultural appropriation and disrespect of Indigenous traditions while living in New Mexico. It was eye opening and a massive display of basic, approachable , and repairative reparations. And the best part of the exhibit was the Téwa art intermingled with the Georgia O'Keefe pieces that they challenged.

Small, but engaging museum in downtown Santa Fe. The day we visited, a weekday, tickets were available at the door, but best to reserve online, since they can sell out. A 10-minute video upon entry is a really great introduction to the artists life and her 98-year journey to eventually call New Mexico home. The museum foundation is planning to build a larger museum about a block away. All the artwork comes with useful backgrounds on the art and artist, which make the exhibits accessible to all ages. I spent about an hour in the museum and small gift shop, but an ethisiast could draw it iut to 2 hours.

A visit to Santa Fe is not complete without spending time at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Born in Wisconsin, influenced her paintings her entire life. She combines Wisconsin with Santa Fe to paint with a unique blend and style. Making her a true feminist and role model to young women throughout the world.

This museum is beautiful and informative. I was pleasantly surprised at the museum's acknowledgement of the Tewa people and their culture. There were some beautiful pieces by Tewa artists on display also. The staff were all very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

The trail provides stunning views of silver and turquoise mines, making it a unique and memorable ride. Visitors praise the knowledgeable and personable guides who ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for riders of all levels. The hilly and rocky terrain adds an extra element of excitement to the journey, while the sunset ride is described as breathtaking.
Spectacular experience. Best thing I've done in New Mexico! Harold is the easiest and best guide. Was extremely clear and simple about how to ride and enjoy. The trail was surprisingly hilly and Rocky which made for fantastic views but also not your run-of-the mill trail ride. Ups and downs on the trail made it really interesting. 5 in our group and Harold kept an easy eye on all while letting us do the ride andamage the horses. All beautiful horses.

Best time ever! The ride was great the views are amazing. We had not ridden in years, you were given information about what to do and not to do, and it made the ride easy and enjoyable. Brad, our guide, gets all the credit for his knowledge of the area, his knowledge of each individual horse and his own personal experiences that were engaging and interesting. We’d love to come back again-and so will you.

No-frills, humble horseback ride. Definitely not a tourist trap. The instructors are serious about safety. You ride up the mountain to absolutely beautiful views, then back down. Wear jeans, boots, hat/sunblock. Also, it's dusty. It's the desert. If you're not familiar with riding, it may be a little scary. I loved every second!

Edit for 2021: We tried to do a trail ride again during the week of thanksgiving 2021, and made reservations for a specific day. As it turns out the old man on the phone had written down the wrong date, and when we called to double check we were met with hostility. “I don’t need you people to tell me what to do” direct quote. And then he cancelled our reservation altogether and did not refund us. Amazing experience. Lovely guides and beautiful trails. I recommend going in the morning when it is cooler during the summer. Loads of fun for all experience levels

This was so fun and such a pleasure to experience. The horses were gorgeous, friendly, and well cared for. Harold is an absolute legend/was a great tour guide and made riding even more enjoyable. I would suggest this experience for anyone who wants to ride and check out the scenery!

I took my 10 year old daughter for an 1hr and 15 minute ride and couldn't have experienced anything better. We were both inexperienced riders and our guide was very informative and made us feel comfortable. It was absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing time. Definitely an unforgettable experience.

We read some of the reviews before we came however I say no matter what always give an individual a chance and go off of your own opinion. Harold was amazing, very personable, gave us a great tour, his lessons while on that tour have surpassed many lessons that I received when horseback riding at other places. I learned so much from him. The sunset ride that we went on and the trail was absolutely breathtaking and he offered to take our picture at the top for us. Thanks for going above and beyond Harold you definitely have our business when we come back to Santa Fe and we let the in know about you as well for great recommendations.

Most excellent experience. Wife and kids rode a couple years ago, wife and I did it again this spring. Brad is a great guide, Shadow and Cisco are great horses. Definitely on our to-do list when we get back to NM.

This is a place I just had to see after movie Wild Hogs. I was surprised it wasn't exactly like in the movie, I still enjoyed it any ways. I think it is the coolest town. I did buy a few things. the people where good too. My fellow riders enjoyed coming here to. I don't think any new comer will be disappointed coming here to check it out. The town was neat too. May try to come back in September.

I knew this "diner" had been made into a gift shop so I enjoyed looking around and talking with the guy who runs the place. He was very nice and recommended a great spot for lunch about 10 miles north that wound up being fantastic. Definitely stop in just to see it!

I loved visiting after previously watching Wild Hogs, a 2007 American biker road comedy film directed by Walt Becker and starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy. 🏍️ 🐷 🎦 Maggie’s Diner is not a diner, it’s a souvenir store. It has lots of apparel, patches, etc for purchase.

This place is cool. Built for the movie Wild Hogs, it is not a dinner, it’s a store. The town of Madrid is a awesome stop on the turquoise trail. Lots of art and jewelry shops. Great artist in the area. There is a couple of restaurants in this very small town to grab a bite and have a cold drink.

Neat little road trip destination to take while driving between Albuquerque and Santa fe. Store is a gift shop with trinkets, clothing and more.

Part of our RT 66 Trip from LA to Chicago, we ventured off the path to check out Maggie’s Diner in Madrid! What an awesome little town, looks just like it did in the movie Wild Hogs! Restaurants were good and lots of cool stuff to buy from wild hogs apparel to eclectic crafts and trinkets. Maggie’s is just a gift shop but amazing none the less, the ride out to the town was worth it and the people are very friendly. We visited in May of 2017 and if your out that way I recommend stopping through.
Frank P — Google review
Although it's a store not a diner, for a Wild Hogs enthusiast it is a must see that puts you right back in Madrid looking over your shoulder for the Del Fuegos!
Terri D — Google review
Maggies Diner is a souvenir, t shirt and gift store. It’s a cool little stop for any Wild Hogs fan. They have a ton of t-shirts to pick from along with other merchandise. Don‘t plan on eating in here though, it is not a diner, only in name. We came through about 9:30 on a Saturday morning and it was literally the store open in Madrid.

Incredible visit to this shop in Madrid. Do not miss it if you pass through. The owner was a wealth of knowledge and felt like visiting with an old friend. The hibiscus ginger white chocolate was otherworldly.

The white chocolate with hibiscus, ginger and lemon is absolutely one-of-a-kind and truly awe inspiring. That’s my favorite and the lavender chocolate in white or milk is also something of dreams.

Visited while touring the area. I’m not a big fan of chocolate but I prefer milk chocolate if anything. We were able to sample different types of chocolate. The cookies n cream resembling sheet was what my taste buds preferred. Definitely visit if you are a chocolate connoisseur. A little magic, a lot of love and the finest ingredients make for an orgasmic experience of chocolate.🍫

Stopped in the shop while visiting Madrid. They have some incredible flavor combinations. The owners are culinary geniuses and also SO kind. They were great to chat to. I wanted to buy some turtles but knew they would melt if I packed them on my way home, so I ordered some online when I got back. I had some questions via email, and the owners were very responsive. The chocolates arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I will never be able to eat chocolate turtles anywhere else! Seriously so good.

My girlfriend and I stopped in and we were about to taste the chocolate until the guy sitting behind the counter just picked a couple pieces of the chocolate bark woth his bare hands and broke a couple pieces off. He put the pieces in our hands. My girl and I just looked at each other and said thank you and walked out. Not very hygienic. Please at least put some vinyl glove on. If perhaps he was making fresh chocolate. He was sitting behind the counter, who knows if he was handling money or credited cards or whatever. We quietly left and threw the chocolate out.

Nice little shop where they make chocolate with interesting flavors. My one complaint is that they don't use gloves or tongs. They give you a sample and wrap your chocolate with bare hands and then take cash, touch register, etc. then serving the next customer 🫤

They make candy everyday they're open. Amazing creamy chocolate! organic! We enjoyed the white and dark. Just look at the candy under the glass, it's as beautiful as it is delicious. They also ship! 😋😋

Everything we bought from here tasted absolutely amazing!!! They were very friendly and also gave free tiny samples of the chocolate to help us decide on our purchase. I love their kitchen sink bark, as well as their chili mango covered in dark chocolate and their ginger hibiscus dark chocolate bark 😋

Paako Ridge Golf Club

Golf course
Paako Ridge Golf Club is a stunning course located in the mountains near Albuquerque, New Mexico. The terrain and native vegetation provide an interesting backdrop for a challenging round of golf. With big elevated tee boxes and lots of wind, the course offers incredible scenery and a dramatic, immaculate challenge. The original #4 features an impressive 80-yard long green complex, while numerous tee shots have elevation changes of 40-50 feet.
I have had the pleasure to play out here a few times. This is a gem for New Mexico. The course is beautifully designed, with stunning views of the Sandia Mountains. The layout is challenging yet fair, offering a great mix of elevation changes and well-placed hazards. The course conditions were impeccable. The fairways are always lush and well-maintained, and the greens were fast and true. Remember it always breaks away from the mountain. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into keeping this course in top shape. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed for a great day of golf. One of the highlights was the signature 8th hole, a par 3 with breathtaking scenery that really stands out. The clubhouse is also impressive, with excellent facilities and a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant has always impressed us with great options that complement the entire experience.

Joe the Manager, Tia the attentive waitress, and the talented culinary team created an unforgettable Mother’s Day Brunch at Paako Golf Club. From the impeccable service to the mouthwatering dishes and breathtaking mountain views, every detail exceeded expectations. Nestled on the scenic far side of the Sandia Mountains, this hidden gem offers one of the finest dining experiences near Albuquerque—at a surprisingly reasonable price. If you haven’t discovered it yet, you’re missing out on the best-kept secret in New Mexico dining.

Paako Golf is an absolutely amazing course—breathtaking views and top-notch conditions. The staff was incredible, especially Morgan. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and taken care of from the start. Great vibes all around. If you’re looking for a premier golf experience in New Mexico, this is it. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

Gorgeous day at Paako Ridge. The course is immaculate. A great track right up there with Pebble Beach and Spyglass. Make sure and play the correct tees. Don’t be a hero. Hit it straight as sometimes 10 yards offline can find you in the forest. Have fun.

This is our second time at Paako. The first time we played golf and ate lunch and this second time we just came for lunch. We had the mussels, eggs Benedict, chicken friend chicken and eggs, steak and eggs, baked oysters, hamburger, and Cesar salad with a crab cake as a side to my hamburger. The mussels are phenomenal and I definitely recommend trying them. This time they were a little bit spicier but it was amazing! I am not disappointed eating here. Paako has great food and an amazing view. Nice for a date or Sunday brunch.

Restaurant Review Only: Stopped here for lunch on my way from Los Cerrillos and decided to grab a bite to eat. The valet and restaurant staff were very friendly and inviting when I arrived. I chose to sit out on the patio in the shade with a great view of the course. Joe was very attentive and friendly, which added to the nice ambiance. Joe suggested the Lobster Roll, which I ended up getting, and was so glad that I did. The lobster was sweet and tender, and the French fries were fresh along with a nice spicy aioli that i requested. The margarita was nice and refreshing, especially since it was very warm out. I'd love to come back and experience another meal here, and the views can't be beat.
