Nestled in Canyon, Texas, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum stands as the largest history museum in the Lone Star State. This vibrant institution offers a captivating glimpse into the region's natural and cultural heritage through an array of engaging exhibits. Visitors can immerse themselves in hands-on experiences, from sitting behind the wheel of a classic Ford Mustang while listening to Buddy Holly tunes to trying out a sidesaddle.
Amazing History Museum across many disciplines. Geology, art, paleontology, history, and interesting special collections of textiles, guns, cars and the history of oil exploration. Very educational and you can easily spend a day or two here. I liked the fact that they had a STEAM education area, not STEM. Arts are necessary! Also, there is a great art collection here.

Saw the reviews and had to visit myself. So much fun learning about the Panhandle Plains. My 8 year old loved it, her favorite part was Pioneer Town. Really enjoyed our visit and we learned so much.
Rachael J — Google review
Having been to the varied Smithsonians, this is either equal to or exceeds the collection of American History. From wagons to Autos, from dinosaurs to drilling for oil, this museum surpasses many museums. The artifacts are real and not just a diorama. I will be back to learn more...totally great place!
Adam W — Google review
Was here about ten years ago, very nice. Supposedly closed for several months now because it needs 110million dollar upgrade to the fire suppression system ... What!!! Trump's new ballroom is gonna be $250million total.
Joey C — Google review
This is a phenomenal find. We took a day to explore the exhibits to include dinosaurs, oil exploration and drilling, indigenous people, cattle ranchers, and cow boys. The auto and firearm exhibits were my favorite. Parking is behind the building with the entrance on 4th. If you'r disabled there is parking in this lot near the back door. Ignore the sign at the rear entrance to go around front. The door is open, and you can ask the security guard to walk through to the front ticket counter.

I have wanted to visit the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum for a few years, but it is closed until they can fix some things in the building
Gear W — Google review
This was the place to go for families that enjoy learning. The interactive learning was the best part for my children. The art galleries were amazing and wonderful. The bone exhibit was quite spectacular. The best part is that it took two and a half hours to thoroughly see all that there was to see. It is definitely worth the money.
Jessica J — Google review
This was a very informative museum. There were several hands on type of exhibits for the little ones. Our daughter was able to sit in a side saddle and a regular saddle, open drawers to reveal artifacts on display, and an Adobe structure to crawl through. There was a nice historical video playing in the movie theatre. This was a nice way to spend an hour or two. Entrance fees were $3 for children, 10 for veterans, and 12 for adults. Also close to down town Canyon, restaurants, and bakeries.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Located in Amarillo, Texas, Cadillac Ranch is a unique public art installation created in 1974 by the group of artists known as Ant Farm. The installation features ten vintage Cadillacs buried halfway into the ground and covered with vibrant graffiti. This quirky tribute to the Golden Age of American automobiles has gained national recognition and become a popular tourist destination. Over the years, the cars have been transformed by colorful graffiti art contributed by visitors, making each visit to Cadillac Ranch a unique experience.
If you’re driving along I-40, Cadillac Ranch is one of those must-see roadside attractions you just can’t miss. It’s quirky, colorful, and full of character. Ten Cadillacs are buried nose-first in the ground, creating a public art installation that has become an iconic stop for travelers. One of the best parts? You’re encouraged to participate! Visitors bring or buy spray paint right there and add their own touch to the cars. Layers upon layers of paint tell the story of thousands of people who have passed through. Whether you write your name, doodle something fun, or just splash some color around, it’s all part of the experience. It’s also a great place to stretch your legs, walk around, and snap some fun, Instagram-worthy pictures. The wide-open Texas sky makes for an amazing backdrop. Cadillac Ranch isn’t just an art installation—it’s an experience that blends creativity, history, and road trip fun. If you’re ever on I-40 near Amarillo, it’s absolutely worth a stop.
Mrs A — Google review
Great place to kill 15 or 20 minutes and stretch your legs. The kids were clearly having a ball spray painting the cars. Judging by the sweet truck and trailer, selling spray paint on the road side is very lucrative! It's worth the stop to get the kids out of the car if nothing else :)
Bo H — Google review
🎨 A good place to visit enroute to Colorado from Texas. This place has got exactly 10 inverted cars available for painting. 🚗 We got our own paints from Walmart at $2.60 each. If you get from the Merch store here it will be $7.50 so plan accordingly. ⚠️ Take necessary precautions since this place is extremely windy and when you face the opposing wind while someone is spray painting, the paint might just get to your face and body.
Raghu R — Google review
This is awesome! Very iconic stop on Route 66 that absolutely lives up to its reputation. This is a MUST STOP on Route 66 and if the merch truck and trailer are you can get your paint, shirts, stickers and other memorabilia from them right there on site!
Doug P — Google review
Cadillac Ranch is one of those quirky roadside attractions that perfectly captures the spirit of old Route 66. Located just west of Amarillo, Texas, it features ten vintage Cadillacs buried nose-first in the desert soil, their tail fins reaching toward the sky like a row of colorful sentinels. Layers upon layers of spray paint cover every inch of the cars, creating a constantly changing canvas that visitors from around the world add to daily. It’s free to visit, easy to access, and delightfully weird in all the right ways. Bring a can of paint if you’d like to leave your mark, or simply walk among the cars and take in the vibrant chaos of color and creativity. The wind across the plains, the crunch of gravel underfoot, and the sight of those half-buried Cadillacs make this one of the most iconic and photogenic stops along the Texas stretch of Route 66. Definitely worth a visit for anyone who appreciates Americana, art, and the beautifully bizarre.
Thomas C — Google review
Fun place to visit. It really reminds me of the 7 magic mountain in LV. This place is better because you can buy a spray paint and do graphite on the cars. Definitely worth to stop by but not make it a trip.
Pinny B — Google review
Super cool spot to stop along the way. We expected it to be packed, but we were there on a Monday afternoon and were able to make our mark on the cars. They had clean grounds, convenient truck that can sell spray paint and gifts. Loved it.
Catie — Google review
This is an iconic spot to visit on your way through town. The spot is pretty well maintained, with trash cans around for the empty spray paint cans, and a fence to keep vehicles (and motorcycles?) out. However, it isn’t obvious when you arrive that you need to park on the street and walk down to the cars, which are about 100 yards off the roadway. They could certainly make an off-street parking lot that makes parking safer and allows a shorter access to the monument. Minor details Definitely worth a break to stretch the legs on a road trip!

Specialty Museums
Jack Sisemore RV Museum and Storage is a delightful destination for anyone with a passion for recreational vehicles and vintage automobiles. This charming museum offers free admission, though donations are encouraged to help sustain its operations. Visitors can marvel at an impressive collection of classic RVs, including a 1935 Airstream and the iconic vehicle from the movie 'RV.'
The museum opened March 20, 2025. It is an excellent museum, with vintage Airstream, Winnebago, and other RVs. There are also vintage neon signs, cars, motorcycles, models, and retro camping gear. This collection is extensive, informative, and unusual. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Douglas J — Google review
We were thrilled to find another RV museum on our travels! (The only one we've known about is the one in Elkhart, IN.) The Sisemore RV museum is just fantastic! Great collection of vintage RV's, motorcycles, and race cars, and all the added vintage memorabilia really rounds out the collection. We LOVED that we were able to walk inside almost all of the RV's! It's a little tricky to get to the entrance (turn in by the museum flag and then drive through the open fence) but well worth the trip. Thank you Sisemore family for opening your collection to the public!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟☺️
Jen P — Google review
I visited here July 18. It was easy to find, off the access road and back behind the first building, on its north side. I hoped to see a Discoverer 25 such as one I went in at the Detroit autoshow in 1972 and did not find it, but found a lot of other rare and pivotal RVs, all restored to be in perfect shape. It is a thrill that one can stand inside them, and imagine families in the 1930s to 1970s enjoying the great outdoors. Thanks to Jack Sisemore for creating this.
Seth W — Google review
I hadn't visited this Museum in a long time. I thought as long as I was in Amarillo I would go there again and see the the old rvs. Now they have a bunch of old cars I should say classic cars and motorcycles. It is free admission but it is up to each individual to leave a donation. They have a donation box right at the counter. Good idea well worth it.
George B — Google review
This was a neat stop. It took us about 20-30 minutes to go through the museum. We really enjoyed reading all of the quick stories that were behind each RV. It was neat seeing how each one was staged and the items that were from that time period. This is a fun road side stop! It is also free.
Jana H — Google review
Wonderful rv museum! It is free and they have nice restrooms and free water. There is a donation box which is not a requirement but we wanted to contribute to the museum. There are several rvs to go into. There are motorcycles and a few cars. The centerpiece is the red bus rv from the movie "RV"! It was awesome!!!!
Gina B — Google review
Possibly the best stop in Amarillo! Don’t miss out on this awesome museum! Great vintage campers and the RV Happy Max bus as a bonus! Very cool! I highly recommend this place!
Jamie F — Google review
It was worth seeing. Understand that it is not a traditional museum because it is in a light industrial area. Yes, turn right at the sign and go through the open gate. Look for the large, open roll-up door. Not great signage but it is findable. Some interesting RVs there that take you back and help you realize how nice RVs have become. The motorcycles and race cars seem a bit incoherent, but this is a personal collection and Mr Sisemore obviously likes motorcycles and race cars. Worth seeing if you are here when they are open.

Amarillo Route 66 is a must-see destination with a variety of attractions and entertainment options. From the musical heritage of Cadillac Ranch to the stunning Palo Duro Canyon, there's something for everyone. The iconic highway runs through town, featuring original buildings that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Main Street USA offers a great selection of places to explore, eat, drink, and shop for souvenirs and collectibles.
This review is dedicated to my older sister, Jeri, who passed last year 🥺. I love and miss you sis, no matter how stubborn we both are!! ❤️ I know my sister went on her cross country adventure with a friend of hers while she was still unemployed and to think I was in some of the same exact places that she was just blows my mind 🤯🤯! I went to Amarillo Route66 after seeing it listed in the local attractions and recalling the stories from her trip. I’m sure it looks completely different than when she went, but it was a must see before heading back home. It was later, around 7:00 pm and most shops were closed but I did manage to get some pics from the journey! The wall art on various buildings is pretty cool to see too!!
Ann M — Google review
Every area that has Route 66 passing through it is a little different, and this is how it should be. This section seems to pass through what was downtown Amerillo in the 40s and 50s. Kind of what I spent my early years in up in up north. The buildings are all maintained as original, which is good to see. It has a very heavy concentration of bars and a few restaurants. It appears the area is self funding which is nice to see as the buildings can be maintained and not run down as some areas of Route 66 have. From what we could see, it is a safe area, and if you are looking for a drink, it could be a fun experience. It's definitely worth seeing. We did find the Tucumcari stretch of Route 66 to be more family-friendly. Naturally, every section is different, which is why seeing it all is worthwhile.

What a great place! Not only was the photo opp lovely, but the host was also very friendly! He gave us commemorative badges and a map. There were also lots of interesting merchandise. I highly recommend anyone passing by to check it out!

This is a MUST GO if your in the area. Lots of bar and grills and neat shops.
Jp S — Google review
According to what I read, this is a historic part of route 66, and as we saw several shops, you can sit down and eat or have drinks not to mention the paintings on the walls. Nice few blocks to see when you pass by
Jose M — Google review
What can you say about Main Street USA in Amarillo? There’s a great selection of places to explore, eat, drink and buy your souvenirs and collectible. It will take all day and maybe more to visit all the stores in this area. Come hungry, come thirsty and bring plenty of spending money.
Gerry D — Google review
If you saw the animated movie cars you will recognize some of the buildings as similar to key sets in the film. It's a fun detour, doesn't take long and if you like shopping it's all there .

TEXAS Outdoor Musical

Theater production
Concerts & Shows
Set in a scenic canyon, this amphitheater features seasonal performances about the history of Texas.
We had a great BBQ dinner and enjoyed the show under the Texas sky. Dinner is served buffet style with a friendly team adding your selections to your plate. We recommend getting there early as the line grew quite long. We had great potato salad, Cole slaw and beans along with the star, brisket and sausage. Banana pudding rounded out the dinner. The stage is huge and the cast fills it with well choreographed song and dance numbers. The story recounts the struggles of the early Texans as the figured out how the Native Americans, farmers, ranchers and growing communities would interact. While photography is allowed before the show, photography and videography are strictly prohibited during the show. We enjoyed the opportunity to congratulate and thank the performers for both the show and the patriotic after show recognizing area veterans. Parking is well planned to make exiting the venue at the end of the night very easy.
Rebecca K — Google review
The performance was amazing, you’re not allowed to take pictures or videos. The pictures posted with this review were taken before the announcement. Kudos to all the performers for their talent and enduring the heat while singing and dancing for 2+ hours. All staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and more than willing to help find your seats. If possible, buy your tickets in advance at the box office to avoid all extra online fees. They have a few pricing options, but really there’s no bad seats in the amphitheater so go for the lower price option. They give military and first responder (and a few others) discounts. Also, wait for intermission for better priced popcorn. Lol
Carrie A — Google review
We didn’t stay for a show, but even just driving through, the Pioneer Amphitheatre blew us away. The setup is truly impressive—tucked right into the canyon walls with incredible natural acoustics and a dramatic backdrop. You can tell it would be an unforgettable place to watch a performance, especially with the red rock formations lit up at night. Definitely adding it to the list for our next visit!
BradandJen M — Google review
Best show! Impressed by the stellar performances of the cast, and especially through the rain, thunder, lightning, slipping and falling, they all persevered. Thank you to the cast for sharing your gifts. Kudos to the crew also. Thanks to the staff fir keeping us safe. The BBQ dinner was amazing and a great part of the experience. Worth the time waiting through the storm and sitting in the rain in ponchos! Will definitely come back and recommend to friends!
Merna L — Google review
Texas Musical- Palo Duro Canyon State Park was a really great production! We’ve thought about going to see it many times, but this was our first. The story was a little cheesy and hard to follow at times, however, that was all overshadowed by the gorgeous canyon backdrop, elaborate dance numbers, beautiful costumes, exciting special effects, talented live musicians, and the overall patriotic message! The set was really more than I expected. For seating, we were top row center and I really think it was great because the stage is pretty wide so this gave us a great view without straining to look at one side or the other. #theonlyplaceyoucanseeforeverandstillseenothingatall #onlyinTexas

Enjoyed a Tuesday night show last night while camping at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The musical was great, lots of dancing & interesting story. The backdrop pf the canyon was magnificent. The show was very patriotic, the water canyon light show & fire 🔥 plot line were all interesting. Would definitely recommend. There are concession stands & drinks bar outside amphitheater.

This is one of the most incredible and brilliantly created show with extremely talented people ever! Very Patriotic, history telling, inspiring and entertaining for people of all ages! Long drive to get there but so worth it so I'm coming back with more family and friends! Thank you to the production team and all performers for an amazing job and keeping this gem of a show going for years and years to come!

The performance of the cast and ensemble was seriously so stellar, felt on par if not better than plays of broadway like production. Such a cool atmosphere with the outdoor stage. I want to give a special shoutout to Brian helping guide the flow of traffic and pass out waters and also trying to help me find my parents when they were potentially lost on the CCC trail - he’s a real king.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking the numerous trails and taking in the musical 'Texas' at the park's amphitheater. It is advisable to arrive early to beat the heat and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug repellent as necessary.
Drove the Scenic Route. Amazing views, wonderful staff. We had a great time. Definitely highly recommend should you be in the area. Total time with stopping to see many views and lunch at the Trading Post, easily two to two and half hours. Highly recommend the Cheese Burgers and Fries.

We camped 3 nights at the Juniper Campground! The campsite, restrooms, camp hosts, and wildlife visitors were ALL absolutely delightful!! We did several nice hikes and enjoyed them all!! Instead of the Lighthouse Trail, we decided to make it a loop with Givens, Spicer and Lowry to the Lighthouse and Paseo del Rio! We were glad we did! The Lighthouse portion a of that loop was really the least scenic!! What a wonderful place to explore! Texas State Parks does a GREAT JOB!! Thank you!!

We really enjoyed hiking! We did the CCC Trail and the Rock Garden both were absolutely gorgeous. The Rock Garden was very challenging but definitely had the wow factor! We had a really great time. The roadrunner was so cute such a perfect touch of nature in the park.
Alejandra D — Google review
Beautiful area. The biking loops were pedally and fun. There’s a bike rack on the lighthouse trail before the steep section. The campgrounds are nice, the one we popped into had water, flushing toilets and showers. We didn’t find out the overnight price. Lots of space on a Monday in November.

Absolutely beautiful state park in America’s second largest canyon. Well preserved and maintained, with a road that goes from the rim—and the visitors center—to the bottom, without too many hairpin turns. There’s even a Trading Post that sells food and drink in the canyon (including ice cream!). In terms of hikes, highly recommend Lighthouse Trail—2.8 miles in and 2.8 back—as well as the big cave at the end of the paved road. Super beautiful, mostly flat, and doable with kids.
Jon K — Google review
My family enjoyed visiting the canyon. The big cave was pretty cool to walk, too. Most of the trails were closed off though. The amphitheater had a show that was pretty neat. The gift shop has tons to choose from. There is plenty of wildlife to walking around

Lots of hiking trails, there were showers and bathrooms at multiple different camp sites. This place gets very hot in the summer. You need to pack at least a half gallon or more per a person. Always bring water for your dog.

I ABSOLUTELY loved my ride. I got to ride Rio and he is a very good sure footed old boy. 🩷 The trail along the canyon was beautiful and fun. Definitely a ride for anyone, I have taken many trails along the U.S. and I gotta say to put this one on the map. Melissa and Blair were so sweet, thorough, and a pleasure to meet. The horses at this facility are very well cared and taken care of that is easy to see. I’m looking forward to coming back. I called and chatted with Phylis and is was an easy booking the ride. Absolutely unforgettable experience! Our 2-hour ride with Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West in Amarillo, Texas was hands down the highlight of our trip. The beauty of the Texas landscape, with its wide-open sky and the ride to the rim of the breathtaking Palo Duro Canyon, was something we’ll never forget. One of the most special moments was having our picture taken right on the canyon’s edge, an incredible keepsake that perfectly captured the magic of the day. What made the experience even more memorable were our amazing wranglers: Breeyn, Katilin, and Alison. They thoughtfully chose each guest a horse to match their experience as a rider. Their patience and encouragement were constant throughout the ride, and their passion for what they do really shone through. They shared fascinating stories and history of the area, and it was easy to see they genuinely cared about both the horses and the guests. It was also very evident the horses loved all three wranglers. ♥ This was more than just a horseback ride—it was an authentic and heartwarming western adventure. Can’t recommend it enough. We’ll absolutely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bailey and Alison were amazing and did a great job of explaining everything, making sure you were paired with the right horse and making it such an enjoyable experience!! 100% would recommend. We will definitely be doing it again if we are out that way again! Reno was so much fun to ride and my husband loved riding Whiskey.

Loved Alison and Katelyn! Their knowledge of the various horses and the canyon's history was incredibly helpful. We had great weather and a lovely sunset! Thanks!

Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument

Monument
Nature & Parks
Parks
Ancient flint quarries open to the public via reservation-only ranger tours hiking up steep steps.
Beautiful place. Love our National Parks System, and this one did not disappoint. Took a tour with our Scouting crew and got a good hour hike in! Also learned some interesting things about the Antelope Creek people, and the various ways flint was harvested and made into tools/weapons. Being surrounded by nature always makes learning more fun.

If you are able to catch the spring bloom, it will take your breath away

We stopped here while driving around. You can’t see the quarries unless you schedule in advance with a ranger. The views are still pretty and we did the little nature hike at the visitor center.

Interesting stop at his site, the video was very helpful in explaining the extent of the trading network the native people had. There was even a pipe from pipestone which is one of the first NPS sites we had visited. A very small park area around the visitor center to explore.
Richard S — Google review
I had hoped to take a few night images from the area but the overcast skies kept me grounded. I took advantage of this to explore the area, heads down, to see what's there. I like macro photography so there are many options for that type of work, plus some cool roads through the area to access various forms of nature. Can't wait to come back in the spring
Al R — Google review
We had a nice experience at the park. Both the tour guide, Mr. Ron, and ranger, Ms. Gigi, were excellent, kind persons to interact with. The park was beautiful, and our children learned a lot.
Soumendra B — Google review
Small national monument. If you want to actually see the quarry, you need to book in advance. However we went during the summer and the tour was cancelled due to the heat. If you are visiting Lake Meredith, its worth a visit, but not worth making a special trip for. There is not much other than the visitor center and the quarry, though there are a few hiking trails, such as down to the lake, but that has receded quite a bit.

We had a great tour with Ranger Elaine Bodie! So thorough and knowledgeable about the area. Lol-discovered we have the same birthday too. This is a “must do” tour!

Visited 8/2/24 on a Friday afternoon. Worth the visit!! Very interesting tour. NOTE- VISITORS CENTER WHERE YOU BUY TICKETS IS NOW RIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE GREEN METAL BUILDING THAT USED TO BE A HARDWARE STORE! Free gravel parking at the new visitor center and level paved parking at the old visitor center. The bison that are descended from the ones Mrs Goodnight saved are in the pasture beside the new visitor center. Tours are at 11:00, 1:00, 3:00 only. The tour is so interesting and the house well preserved. *Not recommended for those with disabilities*-There are stairs to get into the house and steep stairs to climb in the house on the tour. The grounds are well kept and easy to walk around. After the tour, you can easily visit the Goodnight’s graves across the highway in Goodnight cemetery where the views are endless. Highly recommend doing both.

We stopped here for about 90 minutes to break up a drive from DFW to the Oklahoma panhandle. Everyone in my family (2 adults and 2 boys (8 and 12)) loved the tour and history. Such a great part of TX and western history and everything is so well preserved and recreated. I would highly recommend.

Fantastic tour and grounds. Great gift shop. I have driven by here probably half a dozen times on 287 and never knew this place existed. And I paid less to tour it than I would have a cheeseburger at Sonic.
Dacy B — Google review
I love this place and the story behind the ranch! The entire staff were so friendly and accommodating. The young lady that checked us in was so sweet. It is kept neat and orderly. Wonderfull gallery filled with information on the Goodnights. We took the tour of their home and the guide was also delightful. The home is beautiful with nicely groomed grounds. If you love history this place is for you. Thanks to all!
Dian C — Google review
3 stars is because I wasn't able to take the tour as they were cancelled because of heating issues. There was no social media post of the issue, which I rely on to provide information. Also, multiple restroom stalls were out of order. Otherwise, this place is immaculate and you will definitely learn something you didn't know. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. There are 3 bison adjacent to the property that are descendants of the original Goodnight herd.

Absolutely loved this place , the staff were so knowledgeable. If you love Texas and Texas history this is a great place to visit. If you loved the movie Lonesome Dove Charles Goodnight is Capt Call. You can learn a lot at this museum. highly recommend

Beautifully restored home that is an important part of Texas history. Good presentation on its importance by an interpreter in the visitor center. The home, itself, is furnished authentically.

What a treat to have been going home from vacation and choose this route! When we saw the sign Goodnight we knew we had to stop. We so enjoyed visiting to the lovely employees and your guides. The short films were very informative and the tour of the grounds and house was amazing. Our guide knew her history! The house is amazing along with it's furnishings. We considered this our lucky day to have stumbled upon this piece of history. We encourage everyone to take the time to visit here. You will totally enjoy this walk back in time.

If you are a Christian who believes in our lord and savior Jesus, then this is worthy of a 20-hour drive. First off, you see the massive cross for miles away. Next, it's a somber experience when you see life-sized statues of how Jesus was crucified. They have a tomb replica and an actual replica of the shroud of Jesus. Standing near the waterfall with the statue of Mary. It completely opens up your heart and fills you with peace. Visit the store where they embrace Jesus. There were so many people visiting. Truckers were there, families young and old. It was amazing to see how many others were there just to pray. I would say it brought me closer to God than any church ever has. It's completely free of charge. Donations are welcome if you so desire. Whoever built this place, thank you. Mark

Very cool place. I’m not religious, but I will say I was amazed by the statues themselves and the details that was put into them. The shop was cool, I would say there’s something for everyone if this is the sort of thing you believe in.

Can be seen from the Interstate but it is quick stop to get out and take pictures. There is an old sign nearby with a mini leaning tower on it.
J. A — Google review
This has got to be one of our favorite attractions on old Route 66. There was a truck stop and restaurant here years ago. The owner was named Britten and moved this old water tower to the site. After a lot of engineering it had the distinctive lean attracting scores of customers. A recent cool thing to see.
Louis E — Google review
A great thing to see after already seeing the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy! The Leaning Tower of Texas nothing is more American especially the really cute white cow there grazing.
Hunter S — Google review
You can see this from the roadside and while I didn't stop this time I have before. It's in Groom Texas off of 40. You need to access it from the frontage roads. Not sure if there's any water in it but it's been leaning for decades!
D G — Google review
Fun little stop. I do not see how this is still standing. We had some laughs here playing with pictures.
Chad D — Google review
How in the heck is that tower still standing with the WIND?!? I'm surprised the wind hasn't taken it down, lol. Have fun on this quick stop between here and there!
Linda K — Google review
Definitely a unique thing to see! Fun to drive by! You can also see it right from Rt 66
Irene E — Google review
Sorry, this is Cadillac Ranch, not Leaning Tower. Fun to see. Had some difficulty finding it bc we missed the frontage road. It was still fun to see bc I've heard about it for years. People get a little overzealous with the spray paint and paint the plants. You need to bring your own paint or sometimes can find a partially used can. I discovered there is a guy in Amarillo that sells jewelry made from paint scrapings. They don't have a visitor center but there are plenty of places with postcards.

Do not be fooled by the name or looks of this place. Filled with lots of interesting history. Great photos of the 30's dust bowl, old diner, and lots more. Buy some handmade items right off the wall. Some hats and sweatshirts available at reasonable prices. Lady there was very friendly and informative. We are really glad we stopped. Oh, there's no charge, but please leave a donation.

Very thorough museum about the history of barbed wire. Larger than what we expected. Could spend a good deal of time there. Free admission. Donations accepted. Enjoyed the art pieces that were made from the wire. There are some pieces available for sale.
Tracy C — Google review
We found a lot of interesting history at this museum, from barbed wire to Route 66 memorabilia. Our group arrived at 3:35 pm, a time we had arranged with the museum a couple of months in advance. Because we were traveling across Oklahoma, we couldn’t get there before 3:30 pm. They assured us they would stay open and, when we called ahead to confirm, they said it was fine but that they closed at 4:00 pm. Upon arrival, I spoke with the woman working there, who acknowledged that we were on the schedule but mentioned she was tired and would be closing at 4:00 pm. We did our best to quickly see the museum and left shortly after 4:00 pm. Some of our ladies wanted to browse the gift shop, but were told not to look because it was already closed. We understood, but felt it was a missed opportunity for both sales and donations. Our men were really left wanting to see more…

This was the next stop right after the conoco you drop inn, this was free to enter and tour the museum but id highly recommend donating since they stay open based off donations only. This is not the most popular stop on the route but its a must stop overall i believe because you learn alot about the early days of texas when they created barb wire and how it evolved for many different things to the dust bowl and how they went without rain for over 2 years. I highly recommend coming here on the route 66 journey.

What a cool place. We happened on it 30 minutes before closing. Coolest displays and historical photos of the nearby towns. Route 66 artifacts. Even had vintage collections for sale and handmade Western decor made from rope and barbed wire (devil's rope). So cool and an awesome gift store to boot! Must see. Loved it. Also bought some Route 66 sodas.

The Tower Station & U-Drop Inn Cafe is a historical landmark dating back to 1936, featuring an art deco design. It has been prominently featured in the animated film Cars. The site currently functions as a museum and gift shop where visitors can find unique souvenirs. Ozzie's cafe, located on-site, offers homemade pie and other tasty food options for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, the adjacent museum and shop are highly recommended for those seeking an authentic Route 66 experience.
We were in the area and stopped in at this Visitor Center in Shamrock Texas... We love Route 66 and historic things... so since this was a Conoco Station that was built around 1939... and was refurbished and turned into a visitor center... eating establishment...gift shop... it was a place we had to stop..

Highly recommend if you’re passing through!

One of my favorite places to stop. It just screams Old Route 66 and gives a nod to the old days. By the way, the restroom is always open to the public. We stopped at 9pm or so and it was open. It's also right next door to my all time favorite little motels. The Shamrock Inn.

A wonderful find while traveling thru Texas. Super friendly folks who are very dog friendly and allowed our boys inside their Cafe to eat besides us. Very yummy food and excellent service. Gift store has some fun stuff and we picked up a couple of matching shirts. They were also using the Square system for payment which made check out quick and efficient : ) Other positive was the Tesla Supercharger located in the back which brought us there in the first place. Fun place to take some memorable photos.... don't forget to stop by Y'all : )

Conoco Tower Station is a hidden gem that blends historic charm with great service. The iconic art deco architecture makes it a unique and memorable stop—perfect for travelers looking to experience a bit of Route 66 history. The station is beautifully maintained and has a nostalgic atmosphere that’s both welcoming and photo-worthy. The convenience store is clean, well-stocked, and offers a solid selection of snacks, drinks, and essentials. Staff members are friendly and helpful, creating a pleasant experience whether you’re just filling up your tank or taking a quick break from the road. This spot is more than just a gas station—it’s a piece of American history that still serves the community and travelers with pride. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

Quartz Mountain State Park

Nature & Parks
State park
Designated areas for nature-based activities including hiking, boating, camping, fishing & swimming.
Bring water! Although in the 70s, the sun on the rocks heat up quickly and little shade. We did summit trails and the scenery and landscape was spectacular. Well kept trails with just enough markers to keep you pointed in the right direction. The park facilities were very clean and well maintained. Lots of staff that were friendly. Maps are a must. Cell coverage is spotty so don’t expect online access. A must visit if in the area. Be mindful of wildlife. You are in rattlesnake territory so keep an eye on your kids or dog. Would not suggest any of the hikes in the heat of summer unless very well prepared and in good shape.
Robby M — Google review
Nice State park with beaches, a 2 mile bike path, campgrounds, cabins and a lot of history. They flooded an old ghost town to build the lake and dam, which can be seen when the water is low. Now the town they built it for is a ghost town. Cool place and well maintained. Looks nothing like Oklahoma. Cleaned up a bunch of trash from their lake even though their website claims you can’t magnet fish. There’s no laws against it, you just have to turn in historical items. The “Clean Water Act” of 1972- 33 U.S.C. §1251 et seq. allows public citizens to clean waterways voluntarily or hold accountable parties liable in federal court.

Beautiful park and great tent and RV spots. The only drawback was the extra low lake level.

Beautiful place to say.. gotta look at the details when reserving after the first weekend I learned a lot.. Tent camping you have to park and carry your stuff to your campsite.. so after finding out you gotta carry your stuff for tent camping spots I had to switch to a rv spot because I camp in the back of my truck so once in a rv spot a guy pulled into the spot across from me and he ended up having to leave because of the power hook up once again read the details well the rv sites on the south west side of the lake are all 30amp if your rv is 50 Amp you have to reserve in cottonwood on the north side of the lake the old timers that is the host of cottonwood is a great conversation and keeps the area well maintained in the video is cottonwood the pics are the south east side theres deer everywhere

We had a great time at the National Route 66 and Transportation Museum. This is actually a huge series of museums on several topics. The Route 66 portion is well done with vehicles, memorabilia and even road side scenes set up with automatic narration that follows you as you move through the museum. Very well done.

We've stopped at multiple R66 museums since Chicago.... and usually favour the free ones due to budget. I cannot recommend this one enough... 5$ entry and so much to see. I was sceptical about the film, but it does help ground everything before you look round. The ladies at the desks are all wonderfully welcoming and a credit to the museum. We spent over 2 hrs there.... and could easily have doubled that. You can always pop out for lunch and come back as its a complex of buildings with plenty of food options nearby. This is exactly the type of place that should be supported rather than the more tacky tourist ones This is somewhere Elk City can be very proud of. Thank you all! 🥰🙏

The Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton, known as the Hub City of Western Oklahoma, offers a comprehensive look at the history and culture of the iconic road. Visitors can explore exhibits spanning over sixty years of history, including myths, signs, photos, and music. The museum also features a drive-in theater movie experience and replicas of 1950s-style diners and antique cars.
Definitely worth the stop. Nice little museum with a lot of information and history about Route 66. A few great cars, a lot of dioramas, and a ton of nostalgia. Very fun. The two ladies overseeing the museum the day we stopped in were very friendly, kind, and cordial. We arrived just 20 minutes before the museum was to close but they allowed us in anyway and they patiently waited for us to take our time and go through the museum at our own pace. Very much appreciated. Fun little gift/souvenir shop too. Again, definitely worth the stop.

We had a BLAST here! Literally have no complaints. We went Monday morning and there weren't that many people there at the time. It was relaxing and our little one had a great time. He's 4 and loved the wave pool, lazy river, toddler area and water playground upstairs. Dad loved the water slides. Especially perfect for a kid under 10. Very small kid friendly. Everything was clean. Parking is free and easy. Staff was all nice and lifeguards were all paying attention to the kids in the water. 10/10.

I booked the Jungle party room for my 3 yr old turning 4. The pizza was fresh hot and delicious. The perfect lunch after playing in the water. The manager and staff were incredibly kind! Ensuring our visit was a great experience!! Huge thank you to Darci, Keyla, Jessica and Victoria! This is such a hidden gem hidden here in Oklahoma!! This was perfect to plan while the weather has been unpredictable and I wanted to ensure our kids had fun, ages ranged from 1yr to 9 yr old. Even the adults had an absolute blast on the slides!!

Great little stop along I-40!! Some of the pools are a little cold (as mentioned in previous reviews) but it feels great on a hot summer day. The kiddie pool and splash pad area (photo) are 10/10 imo. Could be a little cleaner and some things are broken, but it’s not bad for $45 a person and free (basically door front) parking. The cabanas look pretty shabby tbh, so idk if those would be worth however much they are. We didn’t try the food, but it smelled pretty good. I’ll def be back again on the next road trip!

Small indoor waterpark that has a little of everything. 2 play areas for small children, lazy river, wave pool, 3 slides, and a pool to play basketball in. We were a group of 9 adults and 6 kids aged 1 yr to 10 years old and everyone had a blast, including grandparents. We also had a birthday party for the 4 yr old in one of their party rooms, and it was a great value for the birthday package. Employees were wonderful. We highly recommend spending a day here.

A great little water park to visit if you don't have anything nice near you. I took my family on a 2 1/2hr drive just to come out here. Luckily, we came on a very slow day, so all slides were open and there were no lines for ANYTHING. Nice little food court area and gift shop as well. A little pricey, but the tickets are all day, so that definitely makes it worth it!!

The outside temp was 103° and the water felt fantastic, sometimes when out of the water in certain areas I even got a little chilly. The water was very clear and didn't have a strong chemical odor. A fair bit of debris had collected on the bottom of the wave pool floor, but that seems to be a normal thing. There was only a handful of families both days. I never felt overcrowded. We were easily able to find chairs and never waited more than a minute for a slide. Spotting your family members in different areas was usually pretty easy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We did have two major disappointments though. The yellow slide (the toilet bowl) wasn't working both days of our stay. The fountain drink machine was also broken both days, so the only option was overpriced bottled drinks. The large slides have a game called SlideBoard that has never worked in the 5 years that we have been going to the Water Zoo. My husband and I are competitive and I really want a chance to get the high score lol. I've never seen the boards but the game base and computers are still on the deck. It's also still advertised on the website. While those things were annoying it didn't ruin the trip by any means. I really like going to this place and recommend it to anyone with kids, it's a quick inexpensive trip. A little hidden gem just 2 hours from Amarillo. We will definitely be back. Original review from 2019: This place was a blast. The kids and the adults both had fun. The water was warm and clean

Stafford Air & Space Museum

Museum of space history
Museums
Science Museums
Popular indoor/outdoor museum featuring over 3,500 aerospace artifact & interactive activities.
Yesterday, my two elementary-aged children and I had the distinct pleasure of visiting the Stafford Air & Space Museum in Weatherford, OK. We spent a wonderful two and a half hours exploring both the indoor exhibits and the impressive outdoor displays, including the playground. This museum is a truly terrific institution, serving as a fitting tribute to the remarkable Thomas P. Stafford and the city and trust that so clearly pour their dedication into maintaining it. Having last visited in the early 2000s, I was astounded by its considerable growth and evident ongoing expansion, particularly with the addition of more outdoor structures. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming. For our self-guided tour, they provided me with a comprehensive pamphlet, and, crucially, a scavenger hunt for the kids. This thoughtful touch absolutely kept my children engaged and excited throughout our visit. What truly elevates this already wonderful museum to a "can't-miss" stop is the recent acquisition of an F-117 Stealth Fighter, now proudly displayed in its own dedicated room. The exceptional rarity of this aircraft, and the clear effort involved in securing it, makes the Stafford Air & Space Museum an essential destination for anyone traveling along I-40 or experiencing the Mother Road. Beyond this crown jewel, the museum offers a fascinating array of exhibits. Highlights include Apollo 10 spacesuits, the Gemini 6A spacecraft, artifacts from the Space Shuttle program, and even a Moon rock. Outside, you can marvel at a Titan II missile and a diverse collection of historic aircraft, such as the impressive A-10 Thunderbolt II. The museum also features an interactive educational center with flight simulators, a kids' library, and unique items like a Cosmonaut survival pistol. The Stafford Air & Space Museum is more than just a collection of artifacts; it's an immersive and inspiring experience that captivates visitors of all ages. We left feeling both educated and thoroughly entertained, and I highly recommend it to families and aviation enthusiasts alike.

Such an awesome museum! We went early morning on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all. Really cool free outdoor playground too! We will absolutely be back! Great for kids, they have a scavenger hunt booklet and the get a little freebie for completing it.

Nice museum, great displays. many under renovation. The outside area when completed will be fantastic. Military admission available. Some extremely interesting exhibits. If you RV and are a member of Harvest Hosts you can stay here for a night

Phenomenal collection of artifacts, aircraft, innovation and history! Take a step into the past and strive for the future at one of the most informative museums I have ever experienced. The volume of information here is joyfully overwhelming, as it ties together man's desires to achieve the impossible with the visible results of his successes. Explore the Wright Brothers, the Space Race, the Cold War and much more with a lot of heart and feeling behind the history. This museum is a visual spectacle - great for kids, adults, veterans, innovators, and over-achievers!

This museum is outstanding! The staff did a fantastic job organizing the displays in an informative and beautiful way that we thoroughly enjoyed. It was very interactive and brought back a lot of memories of watching the space program unfold live when I was young. We even got to spend a little bit of time with one of the staff members in a private conversation about general Stafford and see some of his personal collection. My wife and I highly recommend that everyone go by and see this museum. Don't forget to go into town and see the astronaut man on the street corner as well.

I had no idea about this hidden gem in western Oklahoma! If you’re thinking about checking this museum out JUST DO IT. I promise you won’t regret it. There’s SO much to learn about the history of flight from our earliest planes to rocket ships in space! I enjoyed my time very much and will be by returning very soon. 10/10 😊

Red Rock Canyon Campground and Adventure Park

Park
Nature & Parks
State Parks
A popular rappelling area with red sandstone cliffs, plus trails, a public pool & a campground.
I loved this place. It’s an easy, quick drive from the OKC metro and absolutely worth it. $10 entrance fee to the state park—totally fair for what you get. The terrain shift is wild: you're driving along flat land, then suddenly drop into a hidden valley and boom—everything changes. It's serene, scenic, and unexpectedly stunning. The trails are shaded and cool, especially refreshing on a hot day. Great views, well-kept paths, and plenty to explore. Campsites looked popular, and there’s even a pool (separate fee, but a good option for families with kids). I'll definitely be coming back. This spot is a hidden gem.

I loved coming here when I was a kid. It was privately bought, so it's no longer a state park. Campgrounds were very clean. Pool was a great relief to the heat. But it's $7 a day per person. Would have been 5 stars but there are no anchor points anywhere for repelling. Sadly we were not able to repel. Biggest reason we went. Be sure to bring your own tools for anchors. They should put that on the advertising. Any trees that could have been used to tie off, were dead or too small. Bathrooms were very clean, and had hot water There is lots of water spickets throughout the campgrounds, which makes washing dishes easy. Very friendly staff.

Overall really nice and quiet, genuinely nice and caring owners. Lots of semi-rugged hiking (not walking) trails requiring some athleticism and dexterity- not for disabled people. Although very dog-friendly, the areas not paved contain many goatheads, so beware. Can easily accommodate large RV's and travel trailers, though the road down and out is quite tortuous and steep. Sites have electric and water with a communal dump station with tank flush, but no potable water, so fill your tank before leaving your site. Would revisit in the future if the opportunity presented itself.

We had a blast camping here. We had a group of six of us in an RV. The grounds are very well taken care of and the staff is very friendly. There are tons of great trails to hike. We did run into some poison ivy on the trails, but that is to be expected. We came about 4 hours from Fort Worth, TX, and look forward to coming back again.

It was so relaxing! The employees were very friendly and informative about things going on around them. We did some hiking up in the horse shoe area and it was worth the climb. My niece and I cooked over the fire, enjoyed some needed time away from the city and that’s what we got.

One of my favorite places to get a quick easy hike. Taken the kiddo a couple times also. Easy for him and us both and plenty of places to stop to have a picnic. Very clean area and camping grounds. Would bring bug spray of course and the usual camel back and sunscreen. Really pretty scenery also.

We had a great site, and easy pull through with water and electric. Bathrooms were clean but definitely need a redo. Costly per night charge for what you get. Everything is extra. $50 for the campsite, $25 if you want to dump. Former state park.

Red Rock Canyon is now privately owned and he's doing a great job getting it back into shape. It's in much better shape than when the state had it and let it run down. If I had a complaint, the only thing I could think of would be the small ants everywhere. Not a whole lot they can do about them. Great place to camp !

Warm quarters in a relaxed lodge offering dining, golf, a pool, nature trails & water activities.
One of our favorite places to camp!! Hiking, fishing, and even a swimming pool in the summer. They also have horses to ride. It's beautiful and when we have gone its always been well maintained. Tent sites, RV and cabins available. We have our fall trip already planned!!

Clean & well kept duplex style cabins. Generous concrete driveways. Cabins within moderate walking distance to lodge and kayaking. The little store had good country style meals and good service. Bring your own pillows and extra bedding. Beds are not very comfortable, but they were way more comfortable than tent camping. (Though tent sites available!) Concrete picnic tables, fire pits and grills are in the backyard of the cabins. Great for an inexpensive family weekend trip, an hour away from OKC/Edmond.

I hadn't been there in years. My mom's family used to have family reunions there, and I hadn't been in the lodge since then (1977). Same lodge, but updated. Nice, with a local flair about the Cheyenne/Arapaho tribes. The dining room has changed a lot, but was nice. The lakes are dry, just a small channel going through them. Dam broke on the small one and then the large one failed. Don't count on fishing. The golf course looked to be in excellent shape. It's unique in that you're playing over and beside canyons. If your ball goes way back in the rough, leave it. Let the snakes have it, and drop another. It has one of the nearest polls in the state, feed by natural springs.

We made reservations for 3 nights. We get here and can’t find an office to check in at. Find our way to our campsite and start exploring. There is no lake to speak of, water is so low you see the ground and weeds. The beautiful waterfall in the picture, the road going to it has been closed. The pool, #1 you have to pay to use, #2 it is only open on the weekends, we are here mid week. Found the lodge and asked when you check in for camping, she said, oh you’re good. The restaurant wasn’t open either. The shower you have to purchase tokens for, and each token last 3 minutes. To say the least, we are extremely disappointed. The pictures show a beautiful lake, waterfall, pool and restaurant that we will not be able to Partake in. Oh yeah the general store was closed the day we arrived.

Beaver Dam Campground is nice with clean bathrooms and showers. There are picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Both lakes at the park are still empty as the construction work continues on the dam. It would be nice if the park's website would provide information on trail closures and the dry lakes, due to construction. They do not provide a timeline for the lakes being reopened. Instead, it just mentions that the lakes are stocked with trout. The paddle boats on the lakeshore by the store are just sitting on dry ground. We even saw someone with a kayak on their vehicle expecting to get on the water, but obviously that wasn't happening. The General Store is open for small gifts, snacks, and toiletry items. The only hiking trail that is open is the ADA trail that leads to the lodge, then continues to Inspiration Point. The trail to the point, from the lodge, has steep ups and downs, we only made it about halfway, then turned back because the trail was too steep. We had perfect camping weather, and did get in 5 miles of hiking. Just wish we had been provided more information on the trail closures and dry lakes before we made reservations.

If you’re a big fan of golfing in the wilderness this is the place for you. If you were expecting a serene forest (by Ok standards) you might get that, the creek that comes out of a concrete hole in the rock; down a concrete path, because the natural route was removed, isn’t as “wilderness” as one would expect. It’s a good area to cruise through, but the golf course at the entrance and golf cart tracks everywhere really ruined the experience for us.

Have not stayed there yet, but love the area and the layout of the park. A lot of trails to enjoy, paved and dirt. Looking forward to exploring more

Beautifully kept, this was a great stop on our trip west. We met Deb, and she told us all about the fort and the work it takes writing grants to keep it open. She is quite a historian! The museum is accessible, but there are upstairs areas that are not. The grounds are well kept and offer wide walkways. Parking right outside.

If you visit, make sure you talk to Deb. She's the sweetest and very knowledgeable. If you like history, make sure you plan on going to see the Christmas guns and their wreath placing ceremony. It was fantastic to watch a real old canon being fired as well as the pistols that were fired in between. While the museum itself is very small, it was a fascinating visit. I definitely suggest going if you have an inkling for history. While it is "kid-friendly", my 9 year old child was most amused with running around in circles outside with his friend. Again, worth the drive and conversation with Deb, a historian extraordinaire, was the absolute best!

Beautiful grounds. We did not go into the museum. It was closed for a little while during our visit. Being run by volunteers, be patient if they aren’t there. A note will be in the door. We enjoyed walking around in the sun taking photos. Don’t forget to visit the Cemetery.

This was a pretty neat museum. It was $6 for adults, and $4 for kids. Unfortunately, one of the 2 buildings you are actually allowed to go inside wasn't open when we were there. But, there is still a decent amount to see even if you don't pay to go inside the museum. I also recommend driving up the hill to the cemetery. There's definitely some good history here.

Army and Calvary history worth exploring. Potential of this property being used as a public venue for events Oklahoma and seasonal is underutilized. Would be a great place for fairs, concerts , historical reenactments, harvest fest, farmers markets , as well as a place to remember and learn about the history of the area. I would love to see Fort Reno stay preserved and get the recognition it deserves.

Actually kinda sad. We traveled from the other side of the state and they were closed, on a weekend. Sign at the entrance said they were open and gates closed at 430pm. We were that at noon. Was excited to take the husband and kid to a place I grew up with. It’s hard to visit a place like this during the week. We work during business hours and the kid has school. Really wish this place would be open on weekends.

Tiger Safari Zoological Park, located in Tuttle, Oklahoma, is a 45-acre habitat for a variety of wildlife including tigers, bears, lemurs, lions, leopards and other African wildcats. The non-profit organization not only provides a home for these majestic creatures but also offers interactive encounters and educational tours to teach visitors about the importance of caring for them. The park features sunset safaris and interactive games suitable for all ages.
It was the hottest day of the year and it was still worth it. We went on the early morning, mega-VIP tour. It included a guided tour and feeding opportunity, a “free time” wander, and an indoor encounter. They had donuts, coffee, juice, and other pastries for us when we arrived. We saw or fed every single thing the website said we would. It was a small group so everyone got a turn at everything. They gave us plenty of food/treats for feeding during the tour and after when we had our free time to wander. Emily was very knowledgeable about every animal we encountered and offered facts about the animals and included personality quirks. Emily also explained which animals weren’t people friendly and couldn’t be safely handled by the public. There was only one animal we didn’t see and she warned us about that- panther wasn’t interested in coming out when it was already 90+ by 8:00am- can’t blame it. For the indoor animal petting portion, they had several handlers with different animals so we didn’t really need to wait to pet or hold anything. We liked that they directed people on how to touch each animal to ensure the animals were safe. I was skeptical because I read about the location ahead of time, including every negative review. And like everyone else, I watched the infamous Netflix show about that other guy. There were some things I didn’t like, such as the big cats not having play water or the hyena not having a companion, but they had water to drink and Emily did talk about them visiting the hyena throughout the day and that they are looking for a companion (I’m sure finding a hyena is not easy). We have left other encounters for seeing concerning treatment of animals, and we didn’t see anything like that. We recommend going.

The vip is worth getting. They bring out some animals to show and tell, and some you can hold, and others just touch. The staff is wonderful, answering questions with ease. Everyone is really nice. The place is big so be prepared to walk you see many types of creatures. Some of the places lion very run down, but I'm guessing those places are more for summertime use. Beside that awsome place for kids to enjoy a nice day and learn some new things about animals they didn't know.

Entire experience started out a little rough as our reservation wasn’t in their system (we called to make the reservation), but we had paid in advance to stay in a cabin on property - staff seemed super surprised about our arrival and was not super stoked, which makes sense! Aside from this initial interaction, the whole place was incredible. We went on a weekday and were the ONLY people in the entire park! Which sounds crazy, but we went in their off season when folks were working or at school. It was actually really cool to experience it that way without a bunch of people crowding you! We could take our time with each animal and exhibit. We ended up getting a VIP Encounter with our reservation by staying on property, which entailed getting to meet at LEAST 10 different animals up close and personally. Our guide for this was Amy, who was so so so kind and friendly and answered all of our crazy questions. After this, we got to feed monkeys and kangaroos. What a cool experience!!!! Again, still the only people in the entire place. At this point it was dusk and more animals were out than when we initially walked through the park- all cats were very well fed and had enough room to move around in- their pens were HUGE! Loved seeing that and that they were well cared for. In terms of where we stayed, it was in one of the lodges at the back of the property where you’re next to the zebras! The place was so well worth the money with great amenities, very clean, and quiet (except for the animals you can hear at night which is so cool lol). 10/10 experience, can’t wait to come back. If you’re thinking about making the trip here, DO IT! This place deserves your money and your time! Don’t skip it!

Very cool experience! Deff worth trying out! The tree house we stayed in, the bathroom was down two flights of stairs outside, with no air ventilation. The treehouse was also lacking A/C. The ONE window unit they have upstairs only blows hot air. So bring a fan!!!! Emily was part of the park staff and she was by far the most laid back and educational person we met there! We really enjoyed her company! Waking up the sound of a lions roar, was terrifying yet peaceful at the same time!!!! Check it out! It’s an experience you’ll never forget. 🐅🦁🐒

Grandkids school trip from Shawnee. I expected 3 tigers and 10,000 screaming kids and once the crowd was gone.. or more like... I left the crowd and decided to go walk about while they got educated.... it was pretty awesome. I know 1st hand what it's like keeping up buildings, pens, ground, ponds bridges, animals for public display etc.. Great folks, and learning my" brother" firefighter runs the place was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully I'll return on a less stressful day. Some parents need a kick in the groin... letting thier kids bang on the glass agitating the tiger who was trying to eat them through the acrylic panel. After I thought this is how these places make the world news... the grandpa in me yelled at all of them.. including the parents laughing taking the videos. Otherwise... great time and surprising place.

Express Clydesdales Barn

Sights & Landmarks
Experience the grandeur of the Express Clydesdales Barn in Yukon, Oklahoma. Take a complimentary tour of this operational ranch and delve into the rich Western legacy of these stunning purebred horses. Witness bath day events and stroll through paddocks to meet these magnificent creatures up close. The knowledgeable staff is eager to answer questions about these colossal co-workers who travel nationwide. Admire their beauty and size as some horses eagerly interact with visitors.
We booked a free tour to see the horses. Ee arrived and were given instructions on where we were allowed to look. We took 4 young kids (18months-4.5years), and they loved it! It was a very clean facility, so no worries there. They had a place to sanitize hands. There are a couple of different places to see the horses. The barn is completely climate controlled, so it was comfortable even though it was chilly outside. Many of the horses were social and enjoyed the pets. Outside at the back barn, there is a covered porch where you can open a window to each horses' stable to say hello. These were the friendliest horses that we found! No entering the bak barn (I think the training barn). There were a few friendly farm dogs greeting us outside, as well. As far as a "tour" goes, there was no formal tour. You are basically booking a time slot to view the facility and pet the horses. There's also a giftshop with apparel, a couple of coin slot horse rides for kids (they will give you the coins to ride), and indoor restrooms. We spent around an hour here, but everything to offer can be experienced in about 20 minutes.

Awsome experience. We walked around the barn for no charge and said hi to the clydes that were feeding. Also got to walk around to the backbarn and pet the few who stuck their heads out to say hi. Awe, inspiring to be among these giants, a short but rewarding outing.

As a wedding cake vendor, I’ve delivered to many venues—but Express Clydesdales Barn stands out for its professionalism and charm. From the moment I arrived, the staff was welcoming and efficient, helping me navigate the setup with ease. The barn itself is stunning, with its vintage wood beams and open layout that makes staging a breeze. There’s plenty of space for vendors to unload and work without disrupting the flow of the event. The team clearly values coordination and communication, which makes our job smoother and the couple’s day flawless.

Surprised my horse loving 9 year old granddaughter with a visit and self guided tour here one Saturday afternoon. The barns and grounds are well maintained and attractive. Staff is friendly and eager to answer questions. Both the Clydesdales and the Percherons were engaging and interacted with us through their stall windows. The gift shop is small but has a good amount of items and we purchased several things. My granddaughter is determined to go back. Next time we will do a guided tour and possibly the Training tour.

We had an amazing time and the guided tour was well worth it! The guide was very knowledgeable and so sweet to the kids with us. It was a very hot day but didn't feel too warm in the barn and shade!

If you like large horses, this is a great place to come visit. These Clydesdales are amazing. Great place for the family to enjoy walking around for .5/hour. There are guided tours but you can walk around on your own in specific areas. Located at Wiltshire and 11th, it’s just a few miles north of I40 or west of the Kilpatrick Turnpike. Park in a large gravel parking lot north side of wildfire, you can’t miss it. Look for black gates with gold accents and a large barn. The barn will often have the horses doing what they’re always doing, eating. Behind the barn is the training facility that you can see more of these giants. Going inside though is often restricted for those on the tours. Outside there’s an exercise pen and open spaces for the other horses and cows. They do have a gift shop and some old buggies. Also bring a few dimes if you have little ones. There’s a couple mechanical horse rides that only take dimes. Enjoy!

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a poignant tribute to the victims of the 1995 Murrah Building bombing. The memorial features a reflective pool and a garden, along with 168 chairs representing each victim of the attack, including 19 children who were in the building's daycare. The museum provides in-depth information about the bombing and Timothy McVeigh's trial, offering visitors context for their visit.
This was really cool. I love that the memorial took out part of the street in order to make the reflecting pool. It is moving and quiet in the middle of the city. It was simple but poignant. My son was with us (18 yrs) and he did not take know any details so it was great to be able to talk him through history that I remembered from when I was 12. We did not have time to do the museum, which would have answered a lot of his questions but we did the best we could but the interactive video screens were extremely helpful. I truly recommended stopping if you are in OKC. I also suggest going across the street to the church memorial and reading the story there. Worth the time.

Review of the Oklahoma City National Memorial ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 Stars) Visiting the Oklahoma City National Memorial was an incredibly moving and humbling experience. The site is beautifully designed, with powerful symbolism throughout—especially the Field of Empty Chairs, which honors each life lost in the 1995 bombing. The atmosphere is respectful and reflective, and it’s clear that a lot of care went into creating a space for both remembrance and healing. One of the highlights of our visit was speaking with a National Park Ranger on site. His deep knowledge and thoughtful storytelling added a whole new layer of meaning to our experience. The insight he shared about the significance of each part of the memorial helped us connect more personally with the events and the resilience of the Oklahoma City community. It’s clear he is passionate about his role, and it made a real difference in our visit. This memorial is a must-visit for anyone in the area—both to pay respects and to better understand an important part of American history.

Amazing memorial! Since 9/11, it seems this tragedy seems to have been largely forgotten, but this memorial and museum does a great job of reminding us how big this event was. The memorial with the reflecting pool is beautiful and the part with the chairs is heartbreaking once you realize the small chairs represent the children that were killed. And the museum is very informative and the videos very moving. Glad we went and I highly recommend it!

What an incredibly touching memorial that can move the strongest person to tears. You can feel the pain at this memorial with so many innocent young and old lives lost. This was a beautiful memorial to honor those lives lost and those left behind. The outdoor memorial was very well constructed and the museum inside was eye opening and jaw dropping. Worth the experience as you will learn, see and hear actual recordings from that day. 💔

Visiting the memorial and museum was a powerful experience. I was 5 or 6 when this happened and don't have the most vivid memory of it so I'm glad to have visited to more truly understand the gravity of this tragedy. Our country would benefit by everyone visiting to see what happens when we give in to hatred and extremism but also to see the best in us when we come together and stand united.

Such a beautiful tribute to all affected by this horrible event. Planned on just going to the memorial but it was so beautiful that I had to come back the next day to the museum. While at the memorial a ranger came out and gave us a bit of history on the memorial, museum, and some facts about the bombing. I recommend everyone visiting at least once.

The OKC Bombing Memorial and Museum brings us back 30 years this year to one of those moments you'll never forget... the Memorial is beautiful and so beautiful compared to the violence that ripped thru the Heart of the Sooner Nation. The museum well curated and taught me things I never knew about that day.

We were traveling back from the Rocky Mountains and decided to stop and see the memorial. It was absolutely beautiful. We did not have time to see the museum but the gentleman that helped us outside was great about answering any questions we had. Definitely worth the stop! The gateways were very touching.

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the history of the American West. The museum showcases dioramas, artifacts, and art that document and interpret the rich heritage of cowboy culture. Settled by pioneers during the 1889 Land Run, Oklahoma City has deep roots in cowboy country and is home to former cattle trails, ranches, and birthplace of numerous Western film stars and entertainers.
We went here as part of our Route 66 trip. Absolutely would recommend this. Amazing displays of everything cowboy! All done to a really high standard too. You could spend a couple of days here and still not see everything.

My soon to be 13 yrs old just said if this was the first museum he went to on this trip it would have been great. Hubby and I were impressed, we loved the art work. Once again beautiful pieces that look like photographs and not paintings. The staff was kind and knowledgeable as well. Super clean and beautiful I wish the price was a bit less for teens and families at all adds up.

We visited the Cowboy Museum. It was okay and worth the visit if you are interested in cowboy history. The Museum Grill is the museum’s restaurant ((but not really a “grill). We ordered the chef salad, flavorful tortilla soup, and gigantic southwest chicken wrap. All were very good! The museum also has a nice gift shop.

I hadn't visited in about 30 years and was more than impressed with the improvements over the years. Incredible collections, paintings and sculptures are just the icing on the cake. So much to see and learn about western heritage and culture. This is a must-see in OKC!

My husband and I had such a great time visiting the Oklahoma National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how beautifully everything was displayed. We really enjoyed seeing all the incredible artwork — the paintings truly captured the spirit and history of the West. The museum also had a fascinating collection of saddles, guns, clothing, and other historical pieces. Every room told a story, and it was both educational and fun to explore. You can really tell how much thought and care went into curating everything. It was a great experience overall, and we’re so glad we made time to visit. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and looking for something both cultural and memorable!

Beautiful place, they have a really nice gift shop, lovely art, wonderful historical artifacts. There's so much to explore, be prepared to spend a lot of time here. I'd gladly come back again, I need more time to enjoy all of the exhibits. My little daughter had a lot of fun too watching photos, videos and playing at the playground outside.

This is a wonderful collection of Western history and art presented in a beautiful setting. The museum is full of amazing art and the displays tell the story of both the Native American people and the cowboys and settlers. Outside are wonderful statues and experiences to enjoy among lovely landscape.

Visited on Veterans Day and my admission was free. A wonderful museum highlighting the cowboy culture in art, and artifacts. Extensive collection of firearms of the early westward expansion scattered throughout the museum.

Science Museum Oklahoma is a top science museum in the state and one of the largest in the USA. It features interactive exhibits where visitors can engage with various activities, including playing instruments, exploring engineering and technology, and learning about aviation history. The museum also houses a planetarium and the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, showcasing memorabilia from legendary gymnasts. With 8 acres of space dedicated to STEM-based attractions, it offers an educational experience for all ages.
My kids (8&11) loved it here! It was an adventure and tons to see and do! I loved how they let me run back out to my car to grab our picnic lunches and let us eat them inside where it was so much cooler. If I lived closer, I would definitely visit more often!

Visited this museum TWICE while in town for a week because it was that much fun. My kids ages 4 and 7 loved every nook of this place. The museum is huge and while packed with activities feels very spacious, open and clean. There are exhibits for all age ranges and I think kids and adults can be engaged for hours just the same. We all enjoyed every aspect of it. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and well equipped for children to independently use them including low sinks, soap and towels. We loved the mirror maze, sensory nook, tinker room, and the live science shows (we saw two). I’d like to mention 2 cons: - the food offered at the restaurant is not good quality nor there are healthy options. The cafeteria just doesn’t makes sense with such a great facility. Wish they offered healthy, fresh cooked food. My kids ate pizza and a pretzel and both were packaged/frozen, warmed up low quality food. But they do have Starbucks coffee and I enjoyed that. - the garden has so much potential to be a great place as well but seemed a bit neglected. There are a couple of things you would do there but a playground or more science outside would’ve been great. The picnic tables were also dirty and a bit neglected. Overall a very good experience and I recommend it for a full day of fun. Pack your own lunch and snacks and you are all set! Worth the ticket price 100%.

We stayed longer than we thought we would! Lots of fun hands-on activities and plenty for the dads in the group! The planetarium was a fun experience for the kids, the segue ride was hilarious, and the Olympic section was a great experience. The tornado machine was hit and miss. Our favorite exhibits: the music room and the mini-photography showcase.

I went for a toddler birthday party & there were so many interesting fun things for the children to explore. A few hours wasn’t enough time to nearly get through everything there is to do with a break for lunch & birthday cake. I do remember visiting here when I was in middle school, so glad it’s still around.
Crystal M — Google review
That is a wonderful place to have a incredible time with your family and friends. I think it is beyond an ordinary museum. It has been allowed to use and experience lots of experiments. For the children looks like a kinda playground but the difference between normal playground and the museum is to learn while having fun.
Gokhan T — Google review
We celebrated my kids’ birthday here recently and it was completely worth it. The staff drew pictures on the wall that gave them so much glee. We added in the ice cream package and Roman did a fantastic job getting the kids involved. All the families had so much fun checking out the museum as most parents hadn’t been since they were kids. We have a membership that we will definitely be keeping up with and will be visiting frequently.

i took my kids to the "Discover Fest" and the had a blast, i highly recomend it, they do it every year and IT IS FREE! they always have so many interesting things and shows. I think the only kind of "not good" thing was that they were selling water bottles in $3.50 and sodas in $2.00 which i think is not really good for kids being dirsty and trying to save their money they finished picking up a soda.

Wow! We were very impressed. Many options to explore for all ages. One of our favorite museums ever. From the shows to the water and sand play to the cooperative games, everything is perfection.

The Oklahoma City Zoo is a sprawling 119-acre attraction that houses over 1,900 animals from various habitats. Visitors can enjoy up-close encounters with creatures like sea lions, rhinos, and brown bears on behind-the-scenes tours. For those seeking less intimidating interactions, there are interactive habitats such as the Flamingo Mingle and the Herpetarium Wetlands Walkway.
It had just finished raining so the air was cool and the animals were out. Super stunning baby giraffes stopped me for a while. I also got to see the newest baby elephant. I loved watching the other elephants live and protect the baby. Super cutie. What a nice, relaxing day. It couldn’t not have been better.

Been bringing the kiddo here since he was very little. Summer tradition for us for sure. This zoo has improved tremendously throughout the years in a positive direction. The bathrooms could be cleaners and the supplies could be stocked more frequently and more misters. But other than that the facility is clean, the animals seem healthy and tended to. And the facility seems full of animals. Pricing is affordable as well if you do a daily entry or a seasonal pass. The food prices could be a little better and maybe more carts for waters, etc. But other than that this zoo is a fun thing to do with the family.

Such a fun day! The zoo is super clean, easy to get around, and full of amazing animals. My favorite part was watching the elephants play, and the flamingos were so pretty! It’s a great spot for kids and families — and honestly, it was just as enjoyable for us adults too. A perfect way to spend a few hours.

Large Zoo with alot to see and do. We didn't get there until 12pm and stayed until just about closing time and I feel like we had to really rush to see everything. I'd recommend getting there earlier than we did 😂😂 Ate at the Canopy Cafe. Food is pricey, but portions were large and delicious. My daughter really enjoyed the Emus, fish, goats and Flamingos. It's is a very hilly zoo as well, so be prepared for a bunch of uphill walking if you don't plan your route beforehand ( we didn't 😂😂). Thanks for a great day OKC Zoo! 😊😊

Took the kids on a day trip to the zoo. We had a great time seeing all of the animals, riding the merry go round. The food prices are a bit much but the overall experience was positive. Clean and lots to do!

We had such a great time at the Oklahoma City Zoo! Our group included seven adults, a 3-year-old, and an 11-month-old—and we were all able to get in for just $150. Such a great value for a full day of fun, especially with our extended family joining us. The zoo itself is beautiful, clean, and impressively large—we didn’t even make it through the whole thing before it was time for nap time! We especially appreciated the interactive stations set up throughout the park, where friendly zoo staff shared info about the animals and let us touch things like a real zebra pelt. It was a great way to keep everyone, kids and adults alike, engaged and learning. The variety of animals was wonderful, and we were happy to see the animals in large, thoughtfully designed enclosures. My son was completely captivated by an ostrich that followed us along the fence—definitely his favorite moment of the day! I personally loved watching the red pandas—they were so fun to see up close. While we didn’t eat lunch at the zoo, we saw plenty of people enjoying generous portions, and I have to say—the chicken tenders looked surprisingly good (and I don't usually say that about zoo food!). We also noticed a few spots offering adult beverages throughout the park, which was a nice bonus for a relaxing stroll. There were also plenty of fun photo opportunities scattered around the zoo, which made for great memories and some adorable family pics. All in all, we had a fantastic visit and would definitely recommend the OKC Zoo to anyone looking for a fun, family-friendly adventure!

This is the most beautiful, fun zoo I've been to yet. Well laid out with care towards art and landscaping. There are mist spraying locations to cool off, the drinking fountains have a new option that allows you to place your empty water bottle there and it fills up. You can bring your own lunch. And so much more!

Very clean bathrooms. Lively animals. It was cool to see how much room the animals had. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Sad part was that all the penny machines were either out of order or pennies. We ended up only losing a dollar from the machine.

This is the most beautiful place I have ever seen! The huge chandeliers look like big diamonds in the sky! The sound of the singing just surrounds you in your chair!

It was an excellent concert. The voices were all high quality. The royal singers each spoke giving us history of each piece and sharing their dry British humour w/ us. Staff great as usual :-)!

From just pulling into park, everything was so organized and the parking attendants were always smiling and friendly. Upon entering the facility, everyone was extremely welcoming, so friendly, and willing to help if you needed it. Now for the show, Celtic Throne. The show was fantastic. The dancers of all ages, the singers, and the musicians were amazing. You can tell they love doing what they and working together. A family of performers. An incredible show of so much talent and hard work. I would come see this show over and over again. I would like to thank every one of them for sharing their gifts for all to see. This is a must see show if anyone has the opportunity to see it. The venue, Armstrong Auditorium, is a beautiful venue with very friendly people running the facility. Thank so much.

Our first time to visit this auditorium, and we were not disappointed! Beautiful facility and the acoustics were great for performances. We saw the Celtic Throne, and the talent of these young adults and kids was amazing. Plenty of informed staff to help with doors, directions, history and parking. Small parking lots but the staff moved traffic in and out safely and quickly.
