Buffalo Springs Lake

Park
Nature & Parks
Buffalo Springs Lake in Lubbock, Texas is a picturesque lakeside park offering a range of activities for visitors. The 5.7-mile loop trail around the lake provides stunning views of the water, canyons, and open plains, making it an ideal spot for runners seeking both natural beauty and physical challenge. This is a great place to go and hang out for the weekend. Great people that live here at the lake too. Very accommodating and easy going folks.

I really wanted to like this place. We were staying for 3 nights. The day rate is really high, almost doubled the cost for our camp site. I noticed a literal knife left on the table at our campground, and a fishing lure. We had to clean up instantly to make it safe for kids. My son noticed many things at the playground broken, wheels missing so the screws are just exposed, there was trash everywhere. A lot that is wanting some TLC, but reason for review is Friday night, a group of campers were partying way past quiet hours till like 2 am with talking and loud music. My husband said he saw someone came and talked to them but nothing changed. All the rules they send out I really don’t get it. We came here for my son’s birthday weekend and don’t plan on coming back to this campground. Update: What’s worse is we found out the camp host was supposedly right next to them. We came camping with my son and 2 month old and have never had campers so rude, ppl even asking them to keep it quiet. It only improved the second night, the host would drive away and they would turn the music up again. When we got back that evening it was finally quiet.

We took our food truck out to the lake this weekend for the fireworks show. We had awesome customers! The fireworks were awesome as always.

Giving this 5, but really should be a 4.5 for the little things: It's a private community and residents are coming and going through the private gate along with guests. This should be explained. It has a late check out, so don't arrive too early. Campers take advantage of the 3pm check out. Dump station should be on the park map too. The good stuff: On the lake camping, great sunsets, fishing/swimming/boating from your campsite. Great bike rides and off road trails if you have quads or side by sides. The city is just a few miles away. Downtown is a 15 min drive. Definitely THE place to camp if you're visiting Lubbock, and you can score a reservation. We came in late Oct for great weather and no crowds.
Russ L — Google review
Great place to enjoy water activities! I took my 22' sailboat there and enjoyed 2 days of relaxing fun. Greg at Mesquite Cove Marina was very friendly and helpful! We will definitely visit this lake again!
David L — Google review
We are a water family so while visiting Lubbock we wanted to go to a water spot. Unfortunately they are few & iffy at best. Despite rumors of leaches (which was untrue) we ventured out to see. To start with the entry fees are OUTRAGEOUS. Children 12 & older are adult price. For 2 adults, 2 12 yo (adult prices) & 2 kids & 2 under 5 (free) it was over $55. That's for a few hours at the lake. There are limited spits to swim, roped off from boating/jet skis. In the marked swimming spots it's neck deep on my 12 year old at tops. It's also amid a residential area. The houses are right on the water. Lastly, the lake closes at 7 so if you plan on going be sure to go early or it's a wasted trip for the price Overall I would not recommend maybe it's ok for a last resort but I wouldn't waste my time planning a trip here.

Sad. We have been out here lots of times to camp. One night a camper had his generator on and it wasn't loud but it was 10pm so ranger came and told him to shut it off it was quiet time. And these past few days we camping again and on Friday night they played their music til 2am we called plenty of times to complain all they say oh sorry we get someone out there nobody came next day got a call they sorry they look into it.. ok well today sat 8.24 and guess what yup yup they have one officer he is busy and these people with no respect for others are blaring the music so loud it isn't even funny.. mind you ok play it but the whole camp area don't want to hear that.so disappointed.

One of the areas best kept secrets. Everything is so beautiful here. Boat ramp, multiple restrooms, RV hookups, playground, hundreds of birds & ducks.... I wish I could have stayed longer. I'll be back.

Lake Colorado City State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
500-acre lakeside park with camping & cabins, plus kayak rentals, fishing, swimming & nature trails.
This was the cleanest park I have ever been to. The bathrooms, the cabins, the roads and everything in between. The wildlife (which there is a TON of) comes right up to you almost, and the views are amazing. You get decent phone service, the cabins have good air conditioners, microwave and mini fridge, and is just a very nice size for the whole family- again, VERY clean. The Rangers were so kind, and checked up on things all the time. All together I have nothing even slightly negative to say- this place is gorgeous and perfect. My whole family- dog and all- had the best time!
Britnee S — Google review
Nice overnight stop on our way going west. Park was quiet with few campers. Bathrooms were clean & satisfactory. We saw lots of rabbits running around. Enjoyed this stop.

First time camping with my travel trailer here and had a great time, grounds were very clean and Tyler at the office was very helpful and gave me all the information I needed to find the perfect spot to camp at near the shower/restroom building also glad dogs are allowed on leashes! We’ll be back !

Traveling to the barren flat land that is west Texas, It may seem that the artistic hand of God was suddenly distracted and hopped over to Colorado. Nesetked in these flat lands - - some 11 mikes offf the main hwy - Is a camping oasis known as Lake Colorado City State Park. The park was empty except one other camper causing a welcomed quote to settle up on me as I gazed out the window towards the lake that was fronted by cactus and other sharp leaves desert plants. The day Rea is well thought out with family areas spaced adequately to provide for some privacy. Individual family areas are equipped with a covered picnic table and BBQ cast iron BBQ grill. There is a spacious boat ramp and parking lot, and a kyack launching area. Keep your food in the car until your ready to eat because the Bees will swarm it and you. Quaint Small cabins lined the beach front and are most likely rented by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Wildlife includes assorted birds rabbits, Armedilla road runners all of which are not aFraid of humans. I've never seen a road runner stand still on the road before. Food should be secured in your vehicle after dinner to avoid the wild rabbits or other wildlife from eating it.
Ritchie W — Google review
I stopped here to stretch my legs on my way back to DFW. Not far off I-20. I hiked on the trails and they are pretty cool. There is a loop through a bunch of cactus which line a lot of the trail. Then there is an out and back trail along the edge of the water. Not the most scenic place with power infrastructure nearby but as far the trails go, I'd recommend a short stop.

My husband and I are avid campers in our teardrop camper. We often stay at National and State parks. We stayed at this park Friday August 22. We knew we would be a late arrival after 930pm and started calling the park early Friday around noon. We called until 430pm then tried the after hours number. There was no answer at either number. We arrived and followed the map to our site that was provided on the website. Set up was quick and easy. We headed over to the showers, there was no outside lights around the restroom. It was completely dark walking up to the building. I would expect a motion detector light at least, A motion light would at least turn on the porch area when we walk up. The restroom needs major attention. There was mud dauber nest in the corners of the restroom in several places. The restroom stall have a large hole between the stalls that prevents privacy. The restroom was stocked with soap and the water was hot for the shower. Our site was nice and the park was quiet. We have stayed at many Texas State parks and this was not what we expected.
Antonette M — Google review
We only stayed one night, since we were travelling on our way to Utah. But, we had a blast in this beautiful park with very clean restrooms. The amount of birds was amazing!! And the hiking trails are a lot of fun.
Francina S — Google review
Located a few miles south of the I20, Lake Colorado City State Park is a good place to swim. People usually say that lake water is not clear, but that is true of any lake. So set your expectation and you will enjoy it. We were able to get campsites right on the water and that made a difference for us because we swam at every opportunity we got. We interacted with the rangers because we were able to perform a service project here. Our crew of 8 young men and 5 adults were able to repaint one of the larger pavilions after sanding and stripping the paint. It took us an hour and a half to complete the task. Our young men enjoyed the service provided and the rangers were very appreciative of our efforts. There were working restrooms and showers so that was great. There were dumpsters located in the campgrounds so we didn't have to pack out our trash.

National WASP WWII Museum

Museum
Event venue
National museum
Specialty Museums
More than I expected. One hangar is full of displays, video presentations, artifacts, and kiosks, describing what life was like for the WASP. Very ordered, and thorough. There is a gift shop as well. The second hangar continues with their life after volunteering but is focused more on the planes, engines, etc. Well worth a visit. Allow a couple of hours.

This great museum shows the role women pilot played in aviation during WWII. You’ll learn about their training, their relationships to each other and the community around. If you so fancy, you can also try a flight simulator. The museum has plenty to see, allow a couple of hours. In this day and age, it is certainly important to highlight how our sisters, mothers, daughters can be inspiring… Please go!
Jacques L — Google review
If I could give this museum 10 stars I would! My husband and 20 month old girl stopped by over Memorial Day weekend and we loved the museum! The staff were extremely kind and very attentive to our 20 month old. They gave her bracelets to play with and the exhibits were kid friendly as well- they even put a nice booklet signed by an actual WASP! Great museum and great staff!
Mary W — Google review
It’s a fantastic place to stop learn about our woman pilots from world war 2 and all they did for the war
Monika B — Google review
A beautiful museum showing the roles women played in aviation during WWII. They not only showcased the important women who moved mountains during that time, but they also incorporated differrnt simulations so that you could get a sense and feel on how the women trained at the base, what their rooms looked like, and how close of a friendship and bond they all truly had. It's such an amazing and beautiful piece of history.
Kaylee S — Google review
An impressive part of history. Recognition was long overdue. Where's the trip, and the visit. Plenty of tickets available at the door.
Fritz F — Google review
The best aviation museum for women have seen yet. Great staff and meticulous detail of this historic program.
Bob H — Google review
A great piece of history and super interesting to learn more about the role women played in aviation during WWII. I didn't know anything about this program or the women in it before coming to Sweetwater, and I am glad to have stopped here. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and you could tell cared about the history and information here. All four of the aircraft still operate and I wish I could've have been here to see one of them in action! Anyone passing by the area should stop in and take the time to learn about these amazing people.

Awesome historic site and museum. The gun collection is unbelievable. A must visit
James D — Google review
One of the coolest forts I've been to!! Definitely recommend setting aside at least an hour or two to see and enjoy the whole place!!
Eunice T — Google review
We stopped in without knowing anything about Fort Chadbourne, and we were really glad we did. The fort exceeded our expectations and the staff was exceptionally nice and took the time to show us around personally. The museum is much more than we expected with a lot of very interesting exhibits and an entertaining film. The fort and stagecoach stop are partially reconstructed. It’s a great stop for anyone interested in western history. Admission is free but a $10 donation is suggested.
David T — Google review
If you're into frontier history, or even US history, at all this is a must see. I was fortunate enough to meet the owners and tour with an individual that did much of the restoration work. The fort has some fascinating history and stories. Also, if you're coming from tbe south google will guide you to a cemetery nearby, keep going about another mile to the entrance.
T H — Google review
What a hidden gem! The visitor center is fantastic—packed with fascinating artifacts, and the 20-minute introductory video is a must-see. I was genuinely in awe of the weapons collection on display. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend making time to stop by. It’s absolutely worth it!
Stephanie G — Google review
A hidden treasure to be sure. If you like Texas history and can imagine the inhospitable terrain and conditions of the era, this is an amazing find. Privately owned and operated, it is definitely not your typical museum. Their historical gun collection is one of the most unique I have experienced. You can’t go wrong making this a stop on your west Texas tour!
Chris S — Google review
Amazing collection of historic artifacts and historical structures! Worth the time to visit and browse through. Very polite staff who made me feel comfortable and welcomed! Truly a gem hidden away in the middle of the vast desert of western Texas! Gun enthusiasts will be amazed by their cool collection!

Buffalo Gap Historic Village

Museum
History museum
Historic frontier-town complex of buildings from the 1880s to 1920s with an art gallery & gift shop.
GREAT PLACE TO VISIT!! Second visit for us on the weekend of 11/10/24. We first brought our children 7/4/06 and it is just as great as an empty nester experience as it was then. Great family friendly outing. Level gravel parking street side. Lots to experience and see- history really comes alive. Worth the drive to do. The surrounding village of Buffalo Gap is quaint, quiet and lovely. Amazing Perini Ranch Steakhouse is a 5 min drive away. Cannot recommend this attraction enough.
Tracy T — Google review
What a great experience. We received a warm welcome and were given a detailed map of the grounds. The buildings and artifacts are very interesting and documented brilliantly. I would definitely put this on your list if you are in the area.
Kathi U — Google review
One of the coolest walk through museums. There are numerous buildings you can go inside and see the original artifacts from the era. Staff was super friendly and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Will definitely come again soon!
Heather L — Google review
This place is absolutely amazing! I definitely encourage you to come to this village. You like to see things that are cool from our history
Marcus L — Google review
My husband & I had a great time touring Buffalo Gap. Great spot to learn about Taylor County!
Irene E — Google review
Wow, don't miss this historical place. All authentic, detailed stories of real people who lived here
Kathy T — Google review
Such a neat place to visit. The lady was getting ready to close (under an hour) when we got there, but so graciously let us walk around anyhow. She was SO nice! She told us where all the “must sees” were and gave us the summary version of the tour. There were more antiques and artifacts here than in the museum we were at the day before. If you’re into history and in the Abilene area, definitely stop here.
Casey D — Google review
This is the most complete historic village I've ever seen. Real buildings full of furniture that you can walk around in. I was pretty amazed at what they have. I got to bring my dogs, too!

Abilene State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Elm Creek recreational area offers tent & RV camping, hiking, fishing, a playground, a pool & more.
Beautiful Texas State Park. I went in May, and weather was great. This park has a decent length trail, with side trails you can take, if you want to make it longer. Really enjoyed the red soil. It was a nice change from DFW's landscape. The wildflowers also out really added to the scene. I didn't come across a lot of people either, so it was nice to have some solitude.
Kaitlin B — Google review
I was pleasantly surprised by this park. The campsites were very well kept and well shaded. This was the only SP I’ve been to that had a red light outside the bathroom, so there wasn’t a million bugs. Bathrooms were clean with nice showers, no AC but had a huge fan that kept air moving. There were a lot of nice trails for hiking, but the lake was super low. The town of Buffalo Gap is super cute and the cafe was awesome.
Jacqueline H — Google review
Beautiful park. Super friendly and helpful park staff at head quarters. Seen deer, little baby hogs running across the road, armadillos, bunch of little Jack rabbits, owls hooting at night. The Stars are super bright at night at this park. The only downside, which is actually kind of a plus depending on how you look at it, is that the phone service is spotty. Although you can connect to guest wifi by the front head quarters if you really need to get connection and it works just fine.
James B — Google review
We went on the dam trail... the actual trail is easy to follow, until there's a sign "trail" pointing right... than you can follow several confusing trials, blue, pink and bright pink. I walked a circular trail on the bright pink trail, but a two separate party's did, too and we all ended up in different areas. In the end, we all ended up on the main trail and I saw many more crossings marked by pink markers... confusing! Anyways, the actual trail is nice. A little climbing up on and off the dam, nothing terrible. Getting of trail, that was definitely challenged for me. I'd do it again if luck would have me back here for a day or two. Also, $5 to be paid for the day, before going on said trail at headquarters. You get a piece of paper to put in your vehicle. Worth it, to me.
Melanie T — Google review
We enjoyed this park because it is quiet, peaceful and low-key. Abilene State Park is wonderful for senior citizens and families with young children. The hiking trails are easy. The lake is bone dry. We saw wild turkeys, deer, squirrels, dove & a armadillo.
Donna B — Google review
Helpful staff, beautiful Fall leaves, good hiking trails, campsites on my loop (site 77) were well-spaced & not cramped - most with tree-surround. Metal firepits with a half grate. Mine was a tent site, & I have a 10x10 to share with a claustro dog. There was a gravel/paved pad for the tent, or two spots in the grass were large enough, which is what I chose. Bathrooms on my loop were in good order & had a shower.
Deborah ( — Google review
Had a great time. Stopped for an overnight stay since this was a halfway point. Kids loved the park. Camp spot was well maintained and spacious. Buffalo Gap town is not far away which has a great bar and grill.

Nice West Texas State Park just South of Abilene and a short drive to beautiful Buffalo Gap. Lots of shade in the camping areas, plenty of walking trails, and bike trails. Small pond with fish, creeks, and many picnic areas.

I had no idea this was here. Also, I never heard of the fort on the frontier. Very well maintained piece of history that is interesting to walk around. You get to see well preserved buildings as well as ruins that makes it all the more interesting. Short visit can be done in 30-40 minutes. Good place to stretch your legs on a road trip.

Fort Mckavett will always be my favorite Fort on the Texas Trail ! The Houston Johnson Astronomical Society hosts a great star party every spring and fall with free entry. And there are no darker skies in the world than here. As an astrophotographer this location is very ideal for me. Plus the staff are very friendly, and accommodating to my needs. I’ve been going to each star party since 2020, and will continue to.

What a wonderful example of a frontier fort! It’s one of the best examples I have seen. A really nice thing about this particular fort is its location. When you’re standing in this fort and looking out toward the horizon, (where there is still no development nearby) you can really get the sense of how it felt to be in that fort back in the 1800s. Highly recommended if you’re a lover of Texas History as am I.
Richard Z — Google review
Great place to stop and stretch your legs. The fort is mostly intact with many of the buildings open to explore with period furniture, clothing and lots of cool things to look at. They have a great museum with knowledgeable cheerful people. Its kid friendly with a stand of outfits your kiddos can try on..
David L — Google review
A gem of a western fort that a history buff must see! The museum is well laid out to give you a great history of the site’s timeline and its importance to history. The museum store has wonderful souvenirs and gifts on a range of price points. Bonus of this site is you get a good walk in seeing the different buildings set up as if someone is living there all the time. If you catch a living history day the fort really comes to life!
Mitch C — Google review
Had a cool trip to Fort McKavett! Such a cool place, buildings dated back in the 1700s! A part of the history that’s worth learning and experience it! Most of the buildings are extremely well preserved! Such a good work they are doing by preserving it!
Dayana R — Google review
Really neat historical site with multiple buildings to go in and see such a officer quarters and barracks.
Tabitha C — Google review
Ft. McKavett is a very well presented and preserved piece of American history that can be enjoyed by history buffs and by the whole family! The staff and curators are friendly and knowledgeable, and their dedication to the fort is obvious in their enthusiasm and presentation of the holiday and special occasion events. The visitors center is both charming and educational, from the well-preserved historical artifacts to the museum quality miniature dioramas that depict the soldier's lives within the fort during the mid to late 1800s. Highly recommended!

This is definitely a unique store! Totally worth the stop! The owner was very friendly and kind!
Vicki L — Google review
Closes randomly 2pm sat closed, 5hr drive wanted to stop in nope closed. Randomly hours not predictable. Update met DeAnne at their other store, she said her husband was sick and nobody could cover for him. She gave me her card and said to call Monday am and someone could let me in if I was still in town. Tried to call her 2xs, call passed through to voice mail, left 2 messages no response. So stores still closed and haven't been able to actually see anything in their store been here for 3 days. Welp leave back home. Guess I won't be coming here again. I tried multiple times to see what they had to offer to no avaul.

South Llano River State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Wooded park along the South Llano River for hiking, birdwatching, swimming, fishing, camping & more.
Great park!!! Several different bird blinds in varied locations provide birders with a chance to see a great variety of birds. There is a beautiful river with boating/swimming/tubing opportunities. Lots and lots of trails for hiking and biking, a campground with adequate bath houses with flush toilets and warm showers. Best of all the park is an international dark sky location, so please keep in mind ALL exterior lighting on your RV is unwelcome. Use red light flashlights at night to preserve your (and others) night vision. The sky is amazing, deep and starry with Milky Way painted across it! Plan for several days to really see all the hiking this park has to offer. The turkey roost area is open only 10:00am-3:00pm October-March and has the nicest swimming areas. Although you can get in the river near the park entrance anytime if you need to cool off after a hot hike. It’s beautiful country, well worth a several day visit!

One of my family’s favorite state parks! We have been going for five years now.. it’s about a 5 hour drive from Houston, dark sky protected, friendly but thorough park hosts who keep the grounds nice and clean. Not many sites so the park stays quiet and the bathrooms are never crowded. They have some great trails, bird watching and of course the South Llano River! So fresh and pristine, cold and the tubing is just right! The campsites themselves are equipped with covered patio tables and a fire ring with an adjustable grill grate. Some sites are more spacious than others and there are wild hogs, turkeys, and lots of armadillos to keep watch of!

A very nice State Park we visited in mid June 2025. We visited during the week and it was not crowded at all. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The river was nice and you could easily tube or just swim. We did a lot of the hiking trails, including the overlook trail, which was quite strenuous, but the view at the end was worth it. Also visited the birding blinds, which were awesome. Well maintained with plenty of bird food and water. The birds flocked in like crazy. Overall, a very good visit and I would return to this State Park again in the future.

This is one of my top three favorite state parks because it was so quiet which allowed for full relaxation. The trails are well kept and I appreciated being able to do some birdwatching because they have designated areas for this. Additionally the river adds another perk to the park, you can go tubing, fishing, swim, etc. As far as the staff members, overall everybody was nice during check-in but on the night that there was a cold front and hail storm I was seeking help and no one was to be found. The hosts were off duty, the ranger we asked for help at the front that was sitting in his truck was dismissive, and the operator didn’t answer. The good thing was that the park is about 15 minutes from the nearby town so I was able to get help there but in a case of emergency, I think somebody should be accessible. Overall, I really love the park. The sites good but beware of the cacti! Depending on which site you select, you may have more or less room for tents in the grassy area. I recommended the sites in the 40s for larger groups. Go to the observatory if you can, the hike is worth the beautiful view! Oh also there’s plethora of animals! On this trip I saw deer, a roadrunner, a hog, armadillos, canaries, and hummingbirds.

Electric sites: odd #'s 1 - 11 are more secluded and private. The park is beautiful, and the river is great for floating and swimming. The trails are amazing, too. Also, the staff and volunteers are helpful and knowledgeable. I can't wait to come back!
Renea M — Google review
If I could live at this park, I would. It’s beautiful, clean, with friendly staff and great amenities. For birders, it would be a destination, especially if you spot turkey, which may not be on someone’s birding list, but would be a treat to see. He k-in is a breeze, and the atmosphere is serene. Also, spend time in the town of Junction, and enjoy Steiner Park. It’s one of the most scenic city parks I’ve ever seen.
Darla M — Google review
Great park for tubing, you can rent tubes from the park. The river has a turn so you can park at the get out spot, & it's a short walk to where you put in by the bridge. It's a beautiful river, relaxing float, fishing is good too.

Great place to hike, bike and birdwatch. The campsites are very clean and in great condition. Very quiet and dark, great place to rest and reset.

We just spent two days at the YO Ranch and it was spectacular! Jordan took us on a tour to see all the different animals they have and she was super fun and very knowledgeable! Highly recommend the animal tour. We got to feed some of the animals and learned a lot! Who knew Zebras and donkeys could mate and make a Zorkie?! So cool! She also introduced us to Patty and Thor the pigs in the petting zoo area. And all the other cuties in there! Lisa was so sweet also! She introduced us to “Sissy” the capybara. We got to feed her several times and it was so neat to call her name and have her come swim up to us! We were there for our anniversary and Lisa made us feel so special and even provided us all the fixin’s to make s’mores on the fire they had lit the whole time. I’m a vegetarian and Luis really took care of me for each meal! Very much appreciated! The food was fantastic and he was great to chat with! Being able to take our dogs was just another bonus! We always love anywhere that’s dog friendly! They loved all the new smells out there and they also had a blast! We will definitely be back!

YO ranch is beautiful. We were there for an event, so they were very busy, but the staff was very attentive, welcoming, and a general pleasure to be around. There are lots of animals around, there was a pace of donkeys hanging around the main buildings (that included a wayward zebra), they were very friendly, and loved to be hand fed and get their ears scratched. We stayed in the “kids camp” the room was clean and comfortable, and the walk to the restroom/shower building wasn’t bad at all. I plan on visiting again, not as part of an event to explore and check out all the property has to offer.

Fantastic ranch experience in Texas Hill Country. We visited mid July and had a great time with the whole family. Hunting, Wildlife Safari, Massage for the wife, and evenings by the campfire. The staff is really amazing and made our whole experience first class. Gary is an amazing hunting guide with a wealth of knowledge. Lisa who runs the front office is very helpful organizing activities and planning our trip, and Jordan took us on an amazing African safari. Such a great time. Will be back next year!

We did the 5 hour private safari tour. Jordan was our guide and she did a very good job. The animals seemed to be happy to see us as they were around or came up to us a lot. We even got to hand feed some of the animals. Lisa was great at the front desk and made the process work smoothly.

We took our family here (all generations) for the solar eclipse. It was a great place to spend a long weekend. The rooms were really nice, and the ranch is expansive and lovely. They have a beautiful pool and hot tub, a lodge with drinks, snacks, pool, and shuffleboard, outdoor games like corn hole, and lots of space to roam around and explore. The best part was the wildlife and various animals. The guided ATV wildlife tour was a highlight. It's a bit remote, so it's helpful to get the meal plan, which is breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the food is really good and they accomodated my mom's egg allergy. Everyone who works there is so so friendly and helpful. There were lots of families vacationing there, so the kids found eachother and had a great time. I recommend it.

My husband and I wanted a weekend get away off the grid to just unplug and relax. The YO Ranch was the best choice we ever made. When we arrived Lisa in the office was so so sweet she made us feel right at home. We went on the animal tour and our guide was Jordan, she was awesome. Very knowledgeable of the animals and Ranch. The highlight for me was the Giraffes 🦒 sweet Bella let me hand feed her and seeing her baby Tanya was so heart warming. My husband and I fell in love with the Ranch and we will be back. This is going to be our new vacation spot. We can't wait for new adventures and to meet more of the wonderful staff that made us feel like family! If you want to know what true Texas is like please give them a chance you will not be disappointed...

We visited in early February and took the two hour private tour. First of all let me begin by saying that the provided lunch was excellent. And our tour guide, Diane, was very personable and accommodating. With that being said, it was a very windy day. In the first park, we only got close enough to the Waterbuck to take a good pic and see them clearly. All the other deer, etc were running crazy around the park seemingly very scared of something. Diane took the time to try to get closer but they would just up and start running. In the second park, where the giraffe and Llama were, things were much calmer, even though the wind was still blowing, we were able to get close and actually see them and take pics. I just don't feel like our tour was worth the $150 we paid for the two of us. We were hoping to feel like we had had a great experience instead of seeing all the different types of deer from several hundred yards away, mostly running.

Lost Maples State Natural Area

State park
Nature & Parks
Lost Maples State Natural Area in Texas offers a stunning natural experience with its diverse wildlife, limestone canyons, and picturesque fall foliage along the river valley. The best time to visit is during late October through mid-November when the park showcases some of the most beautiful fall colors in Texas. The well-marked trails provide spectacular views and opportunities for primitive camping. Hiking the East loop offers amazing overlooks and a chance to witness the deep red colors of the maples.
Went during peak season for the fall foliage and it was amazing! Definitely one of the best and most beautiful state parks I’ve been too! They have east trails that only take a little bit, and they have hard trails that are challenging but the views for all of them are great! It’s a a popular park so you’ll be able to interact with other hikers and have plenty of neighbors for camping!
Emily — Google review
Beautiful area for nature walk and has lots of shade from the maple trees. We even saw some benches along the way. Definitely bring water during the warm months. We did the East trail walk to see Monkey Rock and the Grotto before turning around and it was close to 4 miles round trip!

Super pretty park. The area is beautiful. The hiking was nice. I love being able to take our dogs with us. The fact that Texas State Parks typically don’t use switchbacks to protect the assents is the only reason that I didn’t select 5 stars.
John W — Google review
Visited the park on October 18. The leaves haven’t changed fully yet, but you can already feel the beauty of the season starting to show. The trails are peaceful, and the natural scenery is lovely—definitely a great spot to enjoy a quiet walk in nature!
Hilal A — Google review
Fascinating area for nature walk and had an amazing time! We brought homemade food, including panipuri as an Indian starter, which was perfect after completing two trails: the Maple Trail (~0.4 miles) and the East Trail (~3.1 miles). The trails offer beautiful scenic views with shade from maple trees, benches for resting, a peaceful stream, and vibrant fall foliage that peaks from late October to early November. We hiked to Monkey Rock and the Grotto on the East Trail, about 4 miles round trip. The weather was cool, so comfortable warm clothes and sturdy shoes are a must. Don’t forget to bring water during warmer months. Highly recommend this spot for nature lovers and anyone looking to combine great food with outdoor adventure!

Beautiful park and campground. We were about two weeks early to see the autumn 🍂 colors; however, the entire park is gorgeous with very nice hiking. No cell or wifi service. Some of the campers drove into town to get service. We were completely content being off the grid for a few days.

Enjoyed seeing the monkey rock and the grotto on a beautiful day. Wear boots 🥾 as you will walk on some rocky 🪨 trails. We went last Monday so the leaves were just starting to change color! Keep up to date on their website so you know when to go.

Lost Maples is such a beautiful place! The hike was amazing and the scenery is stunning. The only downside is that there aren’t enough trash bins or clear emergency signs, but everything else was perfect. Totally worth the visit! 🍁✨

Stonehenge II at the Hill Country Arts Foundation

Sights & Landmarks
Sculpture
Monuments & Statues
Smaller-scale reproduction of the renowned megalithic stone landmark in Salisbury, England.
Stonehenge II – Kerrville, TX If you’re in the Texas Hill Country and looking for a quirky roadside attraction, Stonehenge II is worth a stop. It’s not an exact replica of the original Stonehenge in England—it’s about two-thirds the size and not astronomically aligned—but that’s part of its charm. Set in the open field of the Hill Country Arts Foundation, this quirky installation offers a peaceful, scenic spot to wander, snap some fun photos, and appreciate a bit of creative whimsy. There are also two Easter Island-style heads nearby, which add to the eclectic vibe. It’s free to visit, easy to access, and rarely crowded, making it a fun and unusual detour if you’re in the Kerrville or Ingram area. It’s especially great for families, road-trippers, or anyone with a love for roadside Americana. Pros: Free admission Unique photo ops Quick, fun stop on a road trip Beautiful surroundings, especially at sunset Cons: There's not much to do beyond viewing the stones Limited signage or educational info Verdict: Stonehenge II is a playful tribute to ancient history with a Texas twist—don’t expect mystery or grandeur, but do expect a fun and memorable stop. This was a great little novelty stop on our visit though hill country! The property was clean and the exhibit was fun to photograph. I only wish the galleries and gift shop was open, better luck next time.

Big enough to be impressive even if it isn't the size of the original. Was partially damaged in the July 4th flood. The seating area inside does detract a little from the overall look in photos. Might be a cool venue for a play or live band, though.
Shayna J — Google review
This place and the visitor center across the street were closed and it looked fairly permanent. You can still walk up to the structure and take pictures and all that, so I did. Really enjoyed being there it's fun seeing things like this and the mini Easter Island heads
Bob F — Google review
I can see this place looking real nice but unfortunately its in need of some cleanup after the devastating flood back on the 4th of July 2025. Not sure why the bleachers, chairs, lights, stages, and extension chords are still there. Nothing that can't be collected in an hour or two by a few volunteers. There must be another reason besides other cleanup priorities.

Very beautiful out here at the small town but very upsetting what I saw the display has chairs trash the grass is not cut it's like they had to perform and they just left everything around it Needs to be cleaned

While staying in boerne for a few days i decided to take a ride to see this museum. Boy am i glad i did. These are beautiful and neat bikes and it gave me a reason to explore the hill country. An incredible slice of motorcycle history and the history of an incredible couple, Allan and Debbie Johncock. Over 65 bikes that have been completely restored and are in running condition. Even if you aren’t a rider the $7 entry fee is absolutely worth it!

Bit pricey at $7 a head to get in but, cool bikes and some earlier and particularly rare ones from the days of early motorcycling are part of the collection. Worth checking out if your in the area and the roads in that part of the Hill country are a great ride also.

The Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg offers a captivating journey into the region's German heritage, featuring well-preserved 19th-century artifacts and historic buildings. Spread across 3.5 acres, this museum complex presents a vivid depiction of the early German architecture and daily life in the Texas Hill Country during the 18th and 19th centuries.
This was the highlight of our trip to Fredericksburg this spring. It featured a short video about the trials and tribulations the first settlers went through to settle here. Several historical structures and lots of original artifacts throughout the collection show how life in the early days of Texas flourished.
Doug W — Google review
This place was absolutely incredible! Walking through buildings that have stood for so many years was like stepping back in time. What made it even more special was hearing the stories directly from family members and even a few people who had actually lived in those homes. Every detail—from the way the houses were built to the tools used in construction—was fascinating. The craftsmanship and ingenuity on display were just mind-blowing. The wagons were another highlight; seeing the old technology, like leaf springs, still in use today really connected the past to the present. Overall, such an amazing and unforgettable experience—I highly recommend it!

Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas is home to ten historic structures, staged to showcase different aspects of life in Gillespie County history. Enjoy hundreds of artifacts, as well as audio and virtual experiences connecting visitors to descendants of our original German settlers. Pioneer Museum is a combination museum and historical site of 3.5 acres located in downtown Fredericksburg. In the mid-1840s, Germans looking for a better life were reading and hearing about Texas as a land of limitless opportunity. They risked everything to get here. They tenaciously faced every obstacle and created a unique German colony in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Come share their story. I enjoyed a self-guided tour of the grounds at a leisurely pace and glimpsed into the daily lives of the German pioneers of the Texas Hill Country. Among the historic homesteads and buildings are a one-room schoolhouse, log cabin, Sunday house, bath house, barn and smokehouse, all of which showcase artifacts and architecture. Also on our grounds, the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department Museum displays pieces of early 20th century firefighting equipment. Located at 325 W Main Street, the museum grounds are shaded by large pecan trees and landscaped with native plants. MUSEUM LOCATION 325 W Main Street Fredericksburg, TX 78624 MUSEUM HOURS Monday - Saturday 10AM - 5PM

Learn all about how German immigrants founded Fredericksburg. Very interesting with many of the original structures still standing. Lots of artifacts and historical objects. Loved the school house. Lots of walking outdoors between buildings. Not all buildings have air conditioning. On site bathrooms were clean. Museum store had so many cute items and souvenirs. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

They had several historical buildings that were very interesting. You walk in and a recording plays. Many of the voices are the descendants of the people who lived or worked in that particular house/building. One elderly voice explained he had been born in that particular home. Really, a great treat no matter your age!
Steve F — Google review
Very nicely done presentation of several aspects of historical Fredericksburg. We spent 90+ minutes wandering about starting just as they opened, so there were very few other people. Many informative displays especially of the early building design and tolls the early settlers of the area lived in and used. A bit of walking outside from display to display, but not to challenging. Clean bathrooms and a nice shop. Recommended if you want a better understanding of the city and how it came to be.

Once again, the sound and lighting were spot on! The band was stellar to say the least! We've grown accustomed to awesome performances at this incredible venue. Needless to say, once again, they didn't disappoint. My 87-year-old father had a fantastic experience! Sure wish South Padre Island had this level of entertainment. Once again, the Hill County will have to do.... Plotted. Scouts Screening!

We have been multiple times with a wonderful experience! This last time had to be the absolute worse! We were treated poorly by one of the staff because another customer couldn't read their tickets and believed we had their seats! This particular employee was beyond rude!! And we were definitely in the correct seats!! Apparently under new ownership because when I wanted to speak to the owner two employees told me two different people and one just happened to be the rude employee who didn't even know how to read tickets! I'm sure it was to deter us from speaking to owner. The stage was gone and the sound system was lacking!! The group was excellent and couldn't help the poor equipment they had to work with!! They received the very last of my dollars for sure!!!

The Coming King Sculpture Prayer Gardens, located in the heart of Texas Hill Country, is a remarkable religious sculpture garden that offers a profound experience for both Christians and non-Christians. The site features awe-inspiring statues and a serene prayer garden that invites visitors to reflect and find peace. With its ever-evolving displays and additions, it serves as a beautiful place for worship and community testimony.
This place has such a peaceful feeling about it? It feels so comforting. It's as though you have entered the world that God has been to. I have never felt something like this before. Just spending time at a place you look around and there's people everywhere sitting reading the Bible or just meditating. It is a great place to visit. I will definitely go back here again and spend a little more time.

Take some time and seek the heart of the Lord here… because HIS Presence is there! Yes - I am coming back! 👍🏽🔥👍🏽

We visited this blessed place in June 2025. Very peaceful and full of wisdom and truth. Prayer stones border the sidewalks. The sidewalks have Bible verses in Spanish, English, and German. The garden is shaped like a cross, as seen from above. Each point on the cross has a beautiful sculpture. The central sculpture of Jesus returning on a white horse has a fountain, where people are baptized. Near the entrance, there is a gift shop. There, we learned how God sanctioned the building of this garden, that is the same latitude as Israel. In 2023, a full eclipse came over the garden. In 2024, another full eclipse came over the garden, creating a virtual X at the garden, where both eclipses crossed. Admission is FREE. Parking lots are around the hill that the garden is built on. Highly recommend that you visit and pray at this place!!! God bless!!!

Amazingly designed, starting with the bottom of the hill; the entrance was nicely detailed with Mary, the three nails and a nice little visitors center. Then the top of the hill was superb! The Christ, and the Open Cross was a sight to see. You feel the peace, solemnity and all the prayer rock garden was touching and inspiring. The whole garden is shaped in the shape of a cross. Definitely a must visit…

Spanning six acres, this museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of the Pacific Theater. Visitors can explore an array of artifacts and interactive exhibits that delve into significant events such as Pearl Harbor and Iwo Jima.
We loved this museum. A major part is closed for renovation until December 2025, but we still spent two hours here. The Rescue interactive exhibit is really neat, but we enjoyed all of it. We definitely want to come back once renovations are complete.

Such a great museum. Been coming to this place for many years now and it never disappoints. They now have an interactive museum portion which is super cool. Very educational and respectful of all the men and women who served during a dark time period. Truly shows the bravery and urgency of the time. Please note, it's being renovated until December 6, 2025. The main exhibit is not available. The staff are super friendly and accommodating and there is still plenty of neat things to see.

Awesome museum! This was our first time visiting and we were not disappointed (even with the renovations in progress). The check in staff was professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. The museum is beautifully curated and very interactive. We were able to “run a hotel”, with one of the interactive displays as well as participate in a touchscreen “what would you do” scenario based activity. As we made our way out of the museum, we were deeply impressed with the tribute walls of the men and women who served our country. One especially unique display was the exterior display dedicated to our presidents who served our country, before they became presidents, from Roosevelt to G.W Bush. There is also a dedicated interactive children’s space with a specific focus on children during the various wars. We also participated in “The Rescue” an experience of the life of Berna Real, an American refugee during WWII. We will definitely return once the renovation is complete!

I was looking forward to seeing the indoor displays, I knew the library was being renovated but didn't know the interior planes were as well. That was a bummer, though the museum did mention you can come back when it's done and see it free. Only slight downside is that I'm from 1000+ miles away. This is an awesome museum for kids who love learning, exploring, and playing games. The museum had a lot of interactive full fledged electronic games, even for adults. There was quite a bit of work put into the games, LOVED the 1-2 player submarine game, that was awesome. I was straight suffering with the humidity outdoors, seeing this museum in summer wasn't a great idea. The location to an excessive amount of food options was however a great idea. There are 2-3 gift shops for this museum, all with different items. It's worth checking out, would HIGHLY recommend you go during cooler months, there's a lot to see outdoors.

Stopped off here during a trip to see the museum. Definitely worth it and would go again. Lots to see and very educational. Great for adults and kids.

It's such a MUST SEE attraction to visit while in Fredricksburg. This is such a great place to learn of our past history. The outside venue, which is free to tour provides hours of opportunity to learn and grow. The interior museum, whis does charge, is also a very informative attraction. What a great way to start your day off in downtown Fredricksburg.

Unfortunately, the Bush Gallery was closed for renovation. However, I was told that if I returned after it was reopened (Grand Opening Dec. 6, 2025), I could re-visit and see the Bush Gallery at no charge upon presenting the original dated receipt. Still, it was interesting to learn the history of Admiral Nimitz, and see other exhibits associated with the museum, which included an PT boat that served in the ETO, and an Avenger Torpedo Bomber (both located at the Combat Zone).
G Y — Google review
Now is in remodelation, but in December 2025 will be fully renewed with all the exhibits open, now in Summer 2025 there are still a few things to see, and you can get a courtesy to go back when it open fully with the same ticket, you can stay in town to eat German food and drink wine in the Hill Country

The Admiral Nimitz Gallery, part of the National Museum of the Pacific War, is a newly opened exhibit that honors the heroes of the Pacific fleet during WWII. It focuses on Admiral Chester W. Nimitz and offers interactive learning experiences, inspiring video presentations, and displays personal heirlooms such as medals of honor and uniforms. Housed in the historic Steamboat Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas, this museum showcases exhibits spanning Nimitz's early years and his naval career.
We only allowed ourselves 30 minutes for the Gallery... Wish we would have had more. So very interesting learning about the humble beginnings of Admiral Nimitz. Several life lessons to teach future generations about when certain doors shut, other doors open.

This place is amazing. At first we thought, ok, we'll spend one day looking through here, but this place is 3 museums with other outdoor displays. We'll worth the time.

Beautiful museum for one of the most influential figures in World War 2. Great value for the experience. I highly recommend it for people interested in WWII history.

When we bought our tickets for the Museum of the Pacific War, it came with this gallery, the George H. W. Bush Gallery, and the Pacific Combat Zone, as well as the Memorial Courtyard and Japanese Garden of Peace. I did a separate review of the Museum. We absolutely loved the plaza and the gardens. They were beautiful. Everything is very well done. You can easily spend a whole day here if you love history. I can’t recommend this whole experience enough. Please take the time to work it in your schedule!

I felt to take my shoes off as soon as I opened the door, what a clean place in every angle with a great team ready to assist. Of course I will come back against to pick up my favorite wine bottles. No recommendations at this time because there is an array of flavors for any particular taste. Thanks Meredith and Regan for the welcome and with that beautiful smile I’ll be back just to visit.

Great service, good wine. The Sunkissed blend was a very unique & delicious flavor profile. Sangiovese was a great body with a heavy tobacco finish. Rivenyates was an all out good wine. Worth a stop.

What an intimate setting. We really enjoyed this location. We have a three year old and one year old and there were so many different seating options, we were able to sit away from everyone and enjoy our wine tasting (which really was delicious!) without disturbing others! We were pleased at the outdoor views and the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable about all the wines.

Rustic winery with very friendly staff and good service. Wine was ok. The best wine they had on their menu was the RivenYates. We would have bought a bottle but felt it was over-priced at $60 a bottle.

We got to the winery 10 minutes before they closed. Brenda treated us like it wasn't that close to closing. We had 4 kids with us and she brought them their own cups if crackers and chocolate and toys! The wine was so good and her description of each one was very good. We appreciated her kindness and attentiveness! Will definitely return! ! Thank you! !

I came here with a friend and we had a great time. The wine is incredible, some of the best in the area. The staff was extremely friendly and welcome. The tasting room is large and unique with a great story behind it. The tour was extremely informative as well as the wine tasting. The wines were FANTASTIC. I walked away buying lots of wine because I could not choose from just one. DEFINITELY worth the visit!

The Museum of Western Art, located just outside the main part of Kerrville, Texas, showcases a high-quality collection of paintings and sculptures by top artists from the mid-20th century to the present. The museum's exhibitions and permanent collection focus on the history and culture of settlers and Native Americans, following in the tradition of renowned artists like Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell.
This is a fantastic museum highlighting western art. The docent was really informative with details about the building itself being a work of art. Focus on the interior domes and end-cut wood tile flooring, as well as the exterior grounds. There are many bronze statues depicting western themes as well as many paintings from different artists in a variety of styles. This is a must visit location if you find yourself in Kerrville, Texas before 4pm on a weekday or Saturday. Unfortunately the museum is closed on Sunday. If you live in Kerrville and you have not yet been to this museum… put it on your list immediately.

The Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas is an incredible gem that exceeded all expectations. We visited on a rainy day, arriving through a clearing storm, and even that couldn’t dampen the experience. Though we entered from the back lot by mistake, we quickly found our way to the entrance and were welcomed by stunning outdoor sculptures and a stone wall lined with cowbells. It set the tone perfectly for what was to come. Inside, we were warmly greeted by two friendly and knowledgeable curators who took time to explain the museum's history. We learned that the land was generously donated by a local resident so the museum could be built in Texas instead of California, which led to an outpouring of support from collectors all across the country. Once word spread, people donated incredible artwork and western artifacts, creating a collection that is as rich in history as it is in beauty. The museum is incredibly well maintained and thoughtfully laid out. The architecture alone is impressive, but it’s the content that really shines. From oil paintings to bronze sculptures, the halls are filled with scenes of frontier life, cowboys, Native Americans, ranchers, and breathtaking Western landscapes. Some works are even for sale, and the staff mentioned that they had just completed their Spring Round-Up, which is a showcase and sale event for Western artists. In addition to the art, the museum houses a Western research library, making it a valuable resource for historians, students, and anyone interested in the culture and legacy of the American West. It was our first Western art museum on this leg of our RV journey, and it left a lasting impression. It offers a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere for anyone who appreciates art, history, or the American frontier. Highly recommended if you are visiting Kerrville or passing through the Texas Hill Country. We plan to return if we’re ever back in the area. Do not miss it.

Visited during Spring Break as a group of 6, including 2 boys aged 4-6. Easy to find and free car parking near the entrance. Finding the parking area wasn’t clear, but we got there. The front entrance has a cool walls of cow bells that you could hit to make sound. We ain’t have to wait to get in - the place was quiet and we basically had the run of it. The staff were all friendly and after we paid to enter we were given a 1-3 minute welcome presentation and then could go diff to explore. There were a few big rooms full of paintings, sculptures, display saddles, some cases with pistols and Derringers under glass. There was even a room in the back aimed towards kids - it had a full-sized wagon, a large tent, and dress-up outfits. Our boys dressed up like cowboys and spent the whole time looking in the crates at the plastic food and equipment that the old-timers used to lug around on their frontier journeys. The boys were satisfied. There’s a great variety of art and they all evoked the spirit of the West. One thing I’d have liked to see was labels that said the date and description of the art pieces, beyond the artist name and piece title which was provided. We stayed about an hour which was enough to see all the rooms. Browser the gift shop which had books, art prints, leather and jewellery items. I’d recommend visiting this museum, even in you have young kids.

Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site in Texas offers tours of the Texas White House, ranch, and boyhood home with original furnishings. The Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm features staff dressed in historical costumes demonstrating the past. Visitors can enjoy a driving tour with a narrated app through the park and ranch if they prefer not to walk. The park also includes a theater showcasing a film explaining its history and former president LBJ's story.
This is a FREE learning experience! The house was closed for renovations. However, we saw various other historical buildings. This is also the site where LBJ and family are buried beneath majestic oak trees. We visited in May, so there were plenty of wildflowers to enjoy. The park rangers were super nice. I bought a tshirt and a magnet.

Well first of disappointed in they are working on the Texas White House. But you can still drive the ranch and see a lot. If I could make a suggestion to the site. Why couldn't use a short distance AM radio station broad cast be available to listen to and tell about the seens circumstance. In could play and explain as you moved thru the park. The National Park ranger we met at the school, was a delight to talk to.
Russell ( — Google review
You can easily spend at least half a day or more exploring the park. The ranch is huge and has lots to see as well as some walking trails. If you like bike riding you can bring a bike and helmet to go on a bike tour in the morning. LBJ's childhood home is in town about 14 miles away and they do tours every couple of hours. There are also movies you can watch in the visitors center. Plenty of places to sit and clean bathrooms are all around the park. Don't forget to bring your National Park passport so you can get it stamped. The Texas White House is currently closed for construction.

Very nice state park with “live farm”. Demonstration farm is from early 1800’s. Has all the buildings, animals, and equipment to help you understand how the farmers lived back then. Also have long horn cows, and bison to see. About 2 miles of walking trails connect all the areas of the park. Dogs allowed on leash but not allowed inside any buildings.

Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site is an incredible stop! It’s a perfect blend of Texas history and Hill Country charm. When visiting Fredericksburg, this place is a must. You can easily spend half a day here, then head over to the LBJ National Historical Park right next door. Highly recommend! 🇺🇸🌾 #TexasHistory #LBJPark

We usually visit their booth on Market Days at the Pearl in SA TX . So we were excited to finally visit the family owned Bending Branch winery in Comfort Texas Founded in 2009. Known for Tannat-based red wines which are a smooth, full-bodied, robust red wine . We enjoyed a wine tasting , They also offer premium bourbon tastings. Nice outdoor patio & seating area. Live music every Saturday afternoon. Open noon to 6 p.m. daily. .

The minuite we walked in we were able to get a table and were greated with a tasting spash of wine right out of the container. They had a large variety of wine and bourbon. We did the Texas wine tasting, but they have options for 2 different bourbon tastings or a wine tasting of their California wines. They have a large selection of bottles to take home as well. They have some cocktails and coffee options as well. There are some charcuterie boards as the food option. Some indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating on a gorgeous patio.

We visited Bending Branch when we lived in Texas 10 years ago and STILL remember this vineyard by name as our favorite. When my husband was in Houston for business, he hit up an HEB and brought home this red and we’re enjoying it today. Bending Branch is wonderful! Worth the stop!

It’s a place that showcases the very best of Texas wine.

Great 1st trip here on Sat afternoon for a wine tasting. Everyone was engaged and helpful in sharing 4 wines we tried. Sara and Will were extremely knowledgeable and provided a wonderful afternoon at this little Vineyard near Comfort. Give them a try 😉

My wife and I have been members since November 2017, and over the years we’ve had many wonderful experiences, especially with Dr. Bob, Carla, Kim, Tom, and others whose names we can’t recall at the moment. Unfortunately, our recent visits haven’t been as positive. Today was especially disappointing. During a tasting, we waited over 15 minutes for our second pour and ultimately decided to leave. We mentioned at the front that we planned to cancel our membership, and within five minutes of leaving, it was already canceled, which felt like a slap in the face. After so many great years, it’s disheartening for things to end this way.
Rob — Google review
My wife and were with some friends winery hopping this past weekend and they suggested Bending Branch as it is a distillery as well. Me being more of a whiskey drinker and less a wine sipper, jumped at the opportunity. So off we go. Due to the Texas heat, we stayed indoors, but the outside area was nice. While the others opted for wine fights, I went for the a whiskey flight. I had a nice 4 glass pour and the spirits were good. Even bought a bottle. ChickenDuck Eclipse Ed. was its name. Great taste but even better story. This particular selection was bottled for the April 2024 eclipse and our son and daughter in law got engaged on that day in nearby Mountain Home, Tx just as the eclipse was starting. I finished off with an old fashioned - so good. The wife and friends liked their wine tasting, but nothing like having a drink and a story to go with it.

What a beautiful winery! Tucked away in Comfort this winery provides gorgeous views, tasty wines, and good food. I enjoyed my time here and will definitely be back to try more of their menu! The sparkling rose has balanced flavors and great bubbles. They have many flatbreads but I got the BBQ chicken.. super cheesy with just the right amount of bbq sauce. My salad was great as well, really no complaints.

Friendly staff. Live music was playing when we showed up. They have some farm animals for people to enjoy seeing. Nice outside area. Wines were ok. They have some wines that they make using Texas grapes and some they source from California. I had the albarino, and it was good. My husband had the Freedom wine and said it was easy drinking and an ok blend.

Beautiful vineyard located in the Texas hill country. Huge turf covered outdoor area makes it very kid friendly (they have goats and donkeys in the nearby field). Saw a few dogs as well. There is an adults only section, with lots of shady trees. The large covered area will keep your dry and is right next to the stage where there's live music on the weekend. They have a food menu. And wine, yes they have wine, something there for pretty much everyone, by the glass or bottle.
Adam T — Google review
Singing Water Winery is a nice winery that’s pretty far out, although the closest town is Comfort, so plan your trip going home, especially if you’ve been drinking. The Winery looks great and they have a main open stage area for entertaining, a covered pavilion area and other open areas with seating. Closer to the back outside there are some shaded areas that back up to the river. The inside is nice and clean and our server was great. She was nice and engaging with some chit chat. We did a wine tasting, and it was nice. There was a mix of whites and red with rosé were a good combination. It wasn’t that crowded so we didn’t have to wait and could hear about the history. We also ordered some pizza which was good. This place was nice, and while some sections are reserved for adults, it seems kid friendly in the open outdoor space. Overall, it’s clean, modern, but can be a commute depending where you’re coming from and the wines were decent.

Singing Water Vineyards is such a peaceful and beautiful place to spend time. The setting is relaxing, with plenty of room to sit back and enjoy a glass while taking in the Hill Country views. However, our last experience was not as enjoyable and we ended up canceling our membership after. we have a 2 and 4 year old and were told that we couldn't give our kids snacks from home because they "have a full kitchen here". I replied that yes I know and we will all be ordering from it but I was still told that they do not allow any outside food or drinks. I understand that policy to avoid people bringing a picnic lunch and drinking their free glass and leaving but no kids snacks? and they also don't have any free water which I think is a little cheap of them too. Especially considering you can spend $6 at any coffee shop and get free water. But drop over $100 here and you'll pay several dollars for bottled water. Kitchen is also slow and just generally overpriced.

A nice vineyard to spend a beautiful evening. I loved the place, it has plenty of natural sights and local vegetation and we were lucky to see some deers on our way back. Staff is friendly and have knowledge about their products. We had the tasting and it allowed us to try 5 different wines. Our table was outside and we had a beautiful charcuterie board in the center. Definitely a nice experience, and my recommendation is to try the Texas Reserve or the Sparkling Rose (My favorites)

The Frontier Times Museum in Bandera, Texas is a rustic local museum that showcases the rich heritage and cowboy culture of the region. Families with kids will find plenty to enjoy at the Bandera Natural History Museum, which features life-size replica dinosaurs, Ice Age animals along walking trails, bone-digging play stations, animal mounts, a pollinator garden, Latin American ceremonial masks, and a 20,000-year-old mammoth femur bone.
This is a very unique museum. There is a lot to see here. There were a few items I've never seen it in person before and they were is emaculate condition. Make sure to check out the two headed goat display. Very low paced and very chill museum. Take your time.

I was in the hill country for 3 days of training and i am glad i stopped in here. If you love history and antiques this is the place for you. I have to brag on the 2 lovely ladies working behind the counter, they were so nice and welcoming.

Wonderful museum, absolutely packed with so many interesting and unexpected pieces. A must see when in Bandera and we loved the wagon ride that was included in the admission fee. Discovering the bizarre items were similar to an Easter egg hunt 😅

The reception/ticket lady was warm, friendly and kind. We spent about an hour looking closely at the interesting collection they have. Worth the visit if you're in town!

There is a lot to learn from this quirky museum! Our 6 year old loved the scavenger hunt and the docents were incredibly kind and informative. Definitely worth a visit!

This is a really interesting little museum. There are so many cool objects, artifacts from around the world and different time periods. They have weird oddities, intricate pieces, historical pieces, archeological pieces, you will definitely find something that intrigues you here. Also, shout out to the lady who works there she was super sweet and informative!

This is a nice little museum with lots of historic artifacts. I didn't realize that it has been around since 1933! Definitely worth a visit if you're in Bandera. It's $8 admission, but free if you have a reciprocal level membership at another museum (NARM/ROAM).

Worth a visit. Better than the museums in Fredericksburg and 1/3 the price. Amazing collection of 19th century artifacts. We spent 2 hours looking around in there.

Hill Country State Natural Area

State park
Nature & Parks
Nature preserve
Large park with rugged terrain offering 40 miles of multiuse trails, a campground & primitive sites.
First hike of the year finished! Amazing! Beautiful! Great hike! Equestrian, bikes and regular hikes are all present, but you will have to share the trails. The Wilderness Loop Overlook Trail is very challenging, be careful of the steep inclines. The Merrick trail was easy to moderate. This state park lives up to it. Remember: the TX State park pass gets you into all the state parks for free!

Beautiful scenery. I did the one mile hike since I was passing through on my way to another park. The staff was very friendly and recommended the hike. The trails are great for mountain biking.

Nice scenery and moderate challenging hike. We went on 2-3 different trails and did get lost at a point. Lots of horse poop, so be careful. There needs to be more signs as you hike so you know which trail you’re on, at least those “0.15 miles” etc. No signs on the road either. Wear sunscreen, even though it was cloudy. Overall, decent place but needs more attention to details and upkeep.

A must visit if you want some beautiful views. Plenty of trails with different levels of climbing. Being plenty of water and sunscreen.

Tucked away but very friendly TPWD staff. Horses available by reservation to discover the trails easier. After heavy rains most trails are closed until the slippery mud dries up. Beautiful area.

I cam here on a weekend. The woman at the reception was very nice and welcoming, great staff. Unfortunately they closed the trails because it rained the day before, So before coming here, I would strongly recommend calling to make sure the trails are still opened. Nevertheless, I walked along the main road and the views were great. It was about 4 miles round trip. It would obviously have been a better experience to use the trails, but I was still very happy with the visit.

During the off-season you don't have to make a reservation in advance but during the cooler months I do recommend because they're limited on parking. Wonderful hiking areas and that's the main feature of this state park

The camping spot was nicely shaded and we had ample room for our tent and tables. We were able to book a guided sunset horseback ride which was the highlight for me! The company we used meets right at the park entrance and takes you through the hiking trail. The local town Bandera is cute as well. Will need to visit again!

Medina River Rv Park and Camping

Campground
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
This place is a gem! The owners are excellent and the place is a country oasis (even during a drought). We felt the most safe here for the 100+ days we stayed. You can’t beat the rates and the amenities (laundry included for long term stays, WI-FI //strong connection: I worked remotely here everyday// S P A C I O U S lots w/picnic table and fire ring, private restroom and hot shower, kid and pet friendly) Every single person we met here was so down to earth, fun and just good people. Forever grateful that we found this campground and were able to stay awhile. *Best Christmas decorations*

This place is the awesome, quite and beautiful! We went on the Labor Day weekend, and we have the whole place ourselves on Friday night! The water is clear and beautiful, we had such a great time there floating, finding rocks and discovered secret part of the river. Restroom and bath are very clean at the RV parking area, remember to bring some water with you if you camp in the tent area, but there is always water to wash dishes and WiFi at the RV camping area. We discovered some great wild animals there too. We saw deers at night right across our tent! And some turkey crew in the early morning. Some bat and a lot fish in the river which not scared of people at all, they will swim with you! My boyfriend even saw a small bobcat the other morning, but it run away so fast once it hear the noise lol. The owners are super nice and friendly, it is a family business. We arrived after sunset but the father and son Eric greeting us, show us around, help us setup and bring some firewood with their truck. This place seems pretty new, they said they will expand more. I suggest a small gift shop will be even better with some essentials like ice, sunblocks, small gifts, etc. So you don’t have to go the the little shop in town, but it’s only a five minuets drive from the campsite. We will definitely visit there regularly, and bring our friends and family as well!

Stayed a couple nights w my family at the tent campground & loved it! Serene environment w lots of turkey, ducks, deer, & birds. Relaxed, fished, & went swimming. Big thanks to Mr. Derek & family for their hospitality. If your looking for a peaceful get away, here's the spot. A little piece of primitive Texas heaven. Thanks, can't wait to go again!

A wonderful no-frills campground. We like to camp to feel like we are "getting away from it all." Large sites, walking distance to access the river. The site we stayed at had full hookups. Numerous deer in the area. If you want the standard amenities and to be shoe-horned next to your neighbor, this isn't the place for you.

Very accommodating and beautiful little spot near the Medina. Even had firewood on-site for your camp. The drive from SA alone was worth it. Lots of winding roads throughout the hills, and plenty of natural beauty.

Some of the nicest folks manage this place. We got there after hours and they helped us into our spot. The spot was very nice and very big. It had a fire ring and a picnic table as well. He brought us some fire wood as well. We went to San antonio for a quick trip at bass pro shops and when we came out my truck had been stolen with my rv keys in it. The local locksmith was busy so the manager graciously helped me with drilling out my keyhole so that we could get into the trailer. Anyway..... if we ever come back to this area we will definitely stay just because of how nice and helpful they were. The water tasted good and had excellent pressure. Everything was very clean as well. Great place overall.

We arrived last minute and glad we gave it a chance. The owners (father and son duo) greeted us as we entered and were more than helpful throughout our stay. Even helped fix an issue I was having with my AC. We were able to drive a short distance down, to get access to the river and go on a hunt for arrowheads. You can grocery shop 20 mins away at the local Lowe’s. Spaces were more than enough to accommodate my family. It even came with a picnic table and burn pit for the firewood. I would recommend and enjoy coming back again!

This place is basically someone's yard set up as a campsite. It was very clean. Had a private bathroom w/ hot shower which was stocked and awesome. The river is not near the place but there's really not a river left. Be ready to drive on very loose rocky roads. Rocks, not gravel. 3 night minimum makes for a pricey 1 night tent camping trip but my husband and I enjoyed ourselves.
