Nestled in Canyon, Texas, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum stands as the largest history museum in the Lone Star State. This vibrant institution offers a captivating glimpse into the region's natural and cultural heritage through an array of engaging exhibits. Visitors can immerse themselves in hands-on experiences, from sitting behind the wheel of a classic Ford Mustang while listening to Buddy Holly tunes to trying out a sidesaddle.
Amazing History Museum across many disciplines. Geology, art, paleontology, history, and interesting special collections of textiles, guns, cars and the history of oil exploration. Very educational and you can easily spend a day or two here. I liked the fact that they had a STEAM education area, not STEM. Arts are necessary! Also, there is a great art collection here.
Trina S — Google review
Saw the reviews and had to visit myself. So much fun learning about the Panhandle Plains. My 8 year old loved it, her favorite part was Pioneer Town. Really enjoyed our visit and we learned so much.
Rachael J — Google review
Having been to the varied Smithsonians, this is either equal to or exceeds the collection of American History. From wagons to Autos, from dinosaurs to drilling for oil, this museum surpasses many museums. The artifacts are real and not just a diorama. I will be back to learn more...totally great place!
Adam W — Google review
Was here about ten years ago, very nice. Supposedly closed for several months now because it needs 110million dollar upgrade to the fire suppression system ... What!!! Trump's new ballroom is gonna be $250million total.
Joey C — Google review
This is a phenomenal find. We took a day to explore the exhibits to include dinosaurs, oil exploration and drilling, indigenous people, cattle ranchers, and cow boys. The auto and firearm exhibits were my favorite. Parking is behind the building with the entrance on 4th. If you'r disabled there is parking in this lot near the back door. Ignore the sign at the rear entrance to go around front. The door is open, and you can ask the security guard to walk through to the front ticket counter.

I have wanted to visit the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum for a few years, but it is closed until they can fix some things in the building
Gear W — Google review
This was the place to go for families that enjoy learning. The interactive learning was the best part for my children. The art galleries were amazing and wonderful. The bone exhibit was quite spectacular. The best part is that it took two and a half hours to thoroughly see all that there was to see. It is definitely worth the money.
Jessica J — Google review
This was a very informative museum. There were several hands on type of exhibits for the little ones. Our daughter was able to sit in a side saddle and a regular saddle, open drawers to reveal artifacts on display, and an Adobe structure to crawl through. There was a nice historical video playing in the movie theatre. This was a nice way to spend an hour or two. Entrance fees were $3 for children, 10 for veterans, and 12 for adults. Also close to down town Canyon, restaurants, and bakeries.

Jack Sisemore RV Museum and Storage is a delightful destination for anyone with a passion for recreational vehicles and vintage automobiles. This charming museum offers free admission, though donations are encouraged to help sustain its operations. Visitors can marvel at an impressive collection of classic RVs, including a 1935 Airstream and the iconic vehicle from the movie 'RV.'
The museum opened March 20, 2025. It is an excellent museum, with vintage Airstream, Winnebago, and other RVs. There are also vintage neon signs, cars, motorcycles, models, and retro camping gear. This collection is extensive, informative, and unusual. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Douglas J — Google review
We were thrilled to find another RV museum on our travels! (The only one we've known about is the one in Elkhart, IN.) The Sisemore RV museum is just fantastic! Great collection of vintage RV's, motorcycles, and race cars, and all the added vintage memorabilia really rounds out the collection. We LOVED that we were able to walk inside almost all of the RV's! It's a little tricky to get to the entrance (turn in by the museum flag and then drive through the open fence) but well worth the trip. Thank you Sisemore family for opening your collection to the public!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟☺️
Jen P — Google review
I visited here July 18. It was easy to find, off the access road and back behind the first building, on its north side. I hoped to see a Discoverer 25 such as one I went in at the Detroit autoshow in 1972 and did not find it, but found a lot of other rare and pivotal RVs, all restored to be in perfect shape. It is a thrill that one can stand inside them, and imagine families in the 1930s to 1970s enjoying the great outdoors. Thanks to Jack Sisemore for creating this.
Seth W — Google review
I hadn't visited this Museum in a long time. I thought as long as I was in Amarillo I would go there again and see the the old rvs. Now they have a bunch of old cars I should say classic cars and motorcycles. It is free admission but it is up to each individual to leave a donation. They have a donation box right at the counter. Good idea well worth it.
George B — Google review
This was a neat stop. It took us about 20-30 minutes to go through the museum. We really enjoyed reading all of the quick stories that were behind each RV. It was neat seeing how each one was staged and the items that were from that time period. This is a fun road side stop! It is also free.
Jana H — Google review
Wonderful rv museum! It is free and they have nice restrooms and free water. There is a donation box which is not a requirement but we wanted to contribute to the museum. There are several rvs to go into. There are motorcycles and a few cars. The centerpiece is the red bus rv from the movie "RV"! It was awesome!!!!
Gina B — Google review
Possibly the best stop in Amarillo! Don’t miss out on this awesome museum! Great vintage campers and the RV Happy Max bus as a bonus! Very cool! I highly recommend this place!
Jamie F — Google review
It was worth seeing. Understand that it is not a traditional museum because it is in a light industrial area. Yes, turn right at the sign and go through the open gate. Look for the large, open roll-up door. Not great signage but it is findable. Some interesting RVs there that take you back and help you realize how nice RVs have become. The motorcycles and race cars seem a bit incoherent, but this is a personal collection and Mr Sisemore obviously likes motorcycles and race cars. Worth seeing if you are here when they are open.

Cadillac Ranch

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Located in Amarillo, Texas, Cadillac Ranch is a unique public art installation created in 1974 by the group of artists known as Ant Farm. The installation features ten vintage Cadillacs buried halfway into the ground and covered with vibrant graffiti. This quirky tribute to the Golden Age of American automobiles has gained national recognition and become a popular tourist destination. Over the years, the cars have been transformed by colorful graffiti art contributed by visitors, making each visit to Cadillac Ranch a unique experience.
If you’re driving along I-40, Cadillac Ranch is one of those must-see roadside attractions you just can’t miss. It’s quirky, colorful, and full of character. Ten Cadillacs are buried nose-first in the ground, creating a public art installation that has become an iconic stop for travelers. One of the best parts? You’re encouraged to participate! Visitors bring or buy spray paint right there and add their own touch to the cars. Layers upon layers of paint tell the story of thousands of people who have passed through. Whether you write your name, doodle something fun, or just splash some color around, it’s all part of the experience. It’s also a great place to stretch your legs, walk around, and snap some fun, Instagram-worthy pictures. The wide-open Texas sky makes for an amazing backdrop. Cadillac Ranch isn’t just an art installation—it’s an experience that blends creativity, history, and road trip fun. If you’re ever on I-40 near Amarillo, it’s absolutely worth a stop.
Mrs A — Google review
Great place to kill 15 or 20 minutes and stretch your legs. The kids were clearly having a ball spray painting the cars. Judging by the sweet truck and trailer, selling spray paint on the road side is very lucrative! It's worth the stop to get the kids out of the car if nothing else :)
Bo H — Google review
🎨 A good place to visit enroute to Colorado from Texas. This place has got exactly 10 inverted cars available for painting. 🚗 We got our own paints from Walmart at $2.60 each. If you get from the Merch store here it will be $7.50 so plan accordingly. ⚠️ Take necessary precautions since this place is extremely windy and when you face the opposing wind while someone is spray painting, the paint might just get to your face and body.
Raghu R — Google review
This is awesome! Very iconic stop on Route 66 that absolutely lives up to its reputation. This is a MUST STOP on Route 66 and if the merch truck and trailer are you can get your paint, shirts, stickers and other memorabilia from them right there on site!
Doug P — Google review
Cadillac Ranch is one of those quirky roadside attractions that perfectly captures the spirit of old Route 66. Located just west of Amarillo, Texas, it features ten vintage Cadillacs buried nose-first in the desert soil, their tail fins reaching toward the sky like a row of colorful sentinels. Layers upon layers of spray paint cover every inch of the cars, creating a constantly changing canvas that visitors from around the world add to daily. It’s free to visit, easy to access, and delightfully weird in all the right ways. Bring a can of paint if you’d like to leave your mark, or simply walk among the cars and take in the vibrant chaos of color and creativity. The wind across the plains, the crunch of gravel underfoot, and the sight of those half-buried Cadillacs make this one of the most iconic and photogenic stops along the Texas stretch of Route 66. Definitely worth a visit for anyone who appreciates Americana, art, and the beautifully bizarre.
Thomas C — Google review
Fun place to visit. It really reminds me of the 7 magic mountain in LV. This place is better because you can buy a spray paint and do graphite on the cars. Definitely worth to stop by but not make it a trip.
Pinny B — Google review
Super cool spot to stop along the way. We expected it to be packed, but we were there on a Monday afternoon and were able to make our mark on the cars. They had clean grounds, convenient truck that can sell spray paint and gifts. Loved it.
Catie — Google review
This is an iconic spot to visit on your way through town. The spot is pretty well maintained, with trash cans around for the empty spray paint cans, and a fence to keep vehicles (and motorcycles?) out. However, it isn’t obvious when you arrive that you need to park on the street and walk down to the cars, which are about 100 yards off the roadway. They could certainly make an off-street parking lot that makes parking safer and allows a shorter access to the monument. Minor details Definitely worth a break to stretch the legs on a road trip!

Palo Duro Canyon State Park spans an impressive 60 miles of ravine that boasts towering 800-ft cliffs. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking the numerous trails and taking in the musical 'Texas' at the park's amphitheater. It is advisable to arrive early to beat the heat and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug repellent as necessary.
Drove the Scenic Route. Amazing views, wonderful staff. We had a great time. Definitely highly recommend should you be in the area. Total time with stopping to see many views and lunch at the Trading Post, easily two to two and half hours. Highly recommend the Cheese Burgers and Fries.
Scott M — Google review
We camped 3 nights at the Juniper Campground! The campsite, restrooms, camp hosts, and wildlife visitors were ALL absolutely delightful!! We did several nice hikes and enjoyed them all!! Instead of the Lighthouse Trail, we decided to make it a loop with Givens, Spicer and Lowry to the Lighthouse and Paseo del Rio! We were glad we did! The Lighthouse portion a of that loop was really the least scenic!! What a wonderful place to explore! Texas State Parks does a GREAT JOB!! Thank you!!
Susan D — Google review
We really enjoyed hiking! We did the CCC Trail and the Rock Garden both were absolutely gorgeous. The Rock Garden was very challenging but definitely had the wow factor! We had a really great time. The roadrunner was so cute such a perfect touch of nature in the park.
Alejandra D — Google review
Beautiful area. The biking loops were pedally and fun. There’s a bike rack on the lighthouse trail before the steep section. The campgrounds are nice, the one we popped into had water, flushing toilets and showers. We didn’t find out the overnight price. Lots of space on a Monday in November.
B B — Google review
Absolutely beautiful state park in America’s second largest canyon. Well preserved and maintained, with a road that goes from the rim—and the visitors center—to the bottom, without too many hairpin turns. There’s even a Trading Post that sells food and drink in the canyon (including ice cream!). In terms of hikes, highly recommend Lighthouse Trail—2.8 miles in and 2.8 back—as well as the big cave at the end of the paved road. Super beautiful, mostly flat, and doable with kids.
Jon K — Google review
My family enjoyed visiting the canyon. The big cave was pretty cool to walk, too. Most of the trails were closed off though. The amphitheater had a show that was pretty neat. The gift shop has tons to choose from. There is plenty of wildlife to walking around
Tamara S — Google review
Lots of hiking trails, there were showers and bathrooms at multiple different camp sites. This place gets very hot in the summer. You need to pack at least a half gallon or more per a person. Always bring water for your dog.
Austin — Google review

Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway

State park
Nature & Parks
Canyons
Equestrian, hiking & biking trails & camping amid scenic red canyons & grasslands with a bison herd.
This park is absolutely beautiful. The scenery is incredible. The primitive camping spots offer some privacy and have a fair size. The camping spots with water and electricity are also a good size and offer privacy. They are not too close to each other. The restrooms appeared clean, but they could use some remodeling. An upgrade could be beneficial, as they appear to be old. The park rangers at this park, unlike the ones at other parks, are nice and courteous. At this park you literally hike with bison. There is other wildlife in this park too; the very cute prairie dogs, coyotes, gray foxes, raccoons, bobcats, white-tailed deer, jackrabbits and cottontail rabbits. This park has a prairie dog town near the main entrance and others along some trails. They live in complex burrow systems and are often seen standing upright, keeping watch, and other times also looking at you and behaving as if they were playing hide and seek with you. This park has a lot to offer to both outdoor lovers and adventure enthusiasts. It is a park that you want to visit many times and never get tired of it.
Krystal T — Google review
I had a ball while staying at Caprock Canyons State Park. beautiful area for walking and riding bikes. Plenty of hiking trails and the red rust hills were stunning at different times of the day. There is a buffalo herd in the park so you need to keep a good watch. They come and go pretty much where they want. A couple of times they came right through my camp which was fun. There are also dung beetles here because of the buffalo herd. They are industrious little guys and are fascinating to watch. The park staff were very friendly and seemed to enjoy chatting with Park guests. Love this park and will be back again.
Chris H — Google review
Genuinely one of the most beautiful parks I’ve ever been to! You need to take the trip here! The entire park is just so breathtaking and amazing, it’s takes so much longer to hike the trails because you’re stopping to take pictures every 5 minutes! The bison and prairie dogs are always out so you get to see them, the staff are friendly and helpful, the bathrooms are kept clean, and the trails are well marked and maintained. Definitely recommend this park!
Emily — Google review
The campsites were well maintained and clean. The lights in the bathrooms at honey flat campgrounds need some work. The women’s showers had no lights and all the bathroom lights had 7 min timers. So if you didn’t take a light into the shower you would end up showering in the dark. The park is amazing with great hiking paths.
Jacqueline H — Google review
Great campground, I will be coming back. Scenery is beyond imagination, bison wandering around like a bunch of gangsters is by far the most amazing thing going on......caprock traffic jambs due to bison is just so funny, they really don't give a ____. Campsites are nice and have alot of trees for some natural separation between sites, love waking up to bison wandering around. My only complaint are from the amount of house flies most likely caused by the amount of bison poop, but can't have one without the other, it just made for needing to cook and eat inside all the time. Lastly and this would be a great idea on trail improvement, it would be great if the trails looped around back to the start point or another point close. Eagle ridge, one end is close to the camp, which is great, but the other end is over 2 miles and to walk back through the same trail is kinda silly, the other trails you have to drive to get there, which is fine but same problem, you either walk the same trail twice or if you want to do a loop you are looking at over 8 miles of hiking, which if you are walking and not a professional is kinda far. Next time I'm bringing the bikes because that seems more reasonable for this trail system. I'm not complaining, just an idea for future trail setup? I wanted todo more trails but walking (and trying to carry enough water) for the distance required is just on the verge of too much for a non professional hiker. Will be coming back (with bikes)
Coppertop001 — Google review
Quiet park offering easy or more challenging trails. Still a lot of flowers and blooms in late May, early June. These I found on the Lower North Prong. I just love the solitude the park offers. On the lower north I didn't run into a single hiker, just a lone bull who scurried away on the trail. Great escape even on the weekends. I can imagine during the week, its even quieter. I camped in upper North prong and some campers found some pretty nice spots farther away from each other incase of rowdy younger folks who don't respect camp hours.
Samuel B — Google review
Nice campsite with ample space. Great hiking trails for all level of hikers. The bison were WOW and so cool to see…one morning they roamed right through the camping area! The prairie dogs were so cute!

TEXAS Outdoor Musical

Theater production
Concerts & Shows
Set in a scenic canyon, this amphitheater features seasonal performances about the history of Texas.
We had a great BBQ dinner and enjoyed the show under the Texas sky. Dinner is served buffet style with a friendly team adding your selections to your plate. We recommend getting there early as the line grew quite long. We had great potato salad, Cole slaw and beans along with the star, brisket and sausage. Banana pudding rounded out the dinner. The stage is huge and the cast fills it with well choreographed song and dance numbers. The story recounts the struggles of the early Texans as the figured out how the Native Americans, farmers, ranchers and growing communities would interact. While photography is allowed before the show, photography and videography are strictly prohibited during the show. We enjoyed the opportunity to congratulate and thank the performers for both the show and the patriotic after show recognizing area veterans. Parking is well planned to make exiting the venue at the end of the night very easy.
Rebecca K — Google review
The performance was amazing, you’re not allowed to take pictures or videos. The pictures posted with this review were taken before the announcement. Kudos to all the performers for their talent and enduring the heat while singing and dancing for 2+ hours. All staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and more than willing to help find your seats. If possible, buy your tickets in advance at the box office to avoid all extra online fees. They have a few pricing options, but really there’s no bad seats in the amphitheater so go for the lower price option. They give military and first responder (and a few others) discounts. Also, wait for intermission for better priced popcorn. Lol
Carrie A — Google review
We didn’t stay for a show, but even just driving through, the Pioneer Amphitheatre blew us away. The setup is truly impressive—tucked right into the canyon walls with incredible natural acoustics and a dramatic backdrop. You can tell it would be an unforgettable place to watch a performance, especially with the red rock formations lit up at night. Definitely adding it to the list for our next visit!

Best show! Impressed by the stellar performances of the cast, and especially through the rain, thunder, lightning, slipping and falling, they all persevered. Thank you to the cast for sharing your gifts. Kudos to the crew also. Thanks to the staff fir keeping us safe. The BBQ dinner was amazing and a great part of the experience. Worth the time waiting through the storm and sitting in the rain in ponchos! Will definitely come back and recommend to friends!

Texas Musical- Palo Duro Canyon State Park was a really great production! We’ve thought about going to see it many times, but this was our first. The story was a little cheesy and hard to follow at times, however, that was all overshadowed by the gorgeous canyon backdrop, elaborate dance numbers, beautiful costumes, exciting special effects, talented live musicians, and the overall patriotic message! The set was really more than I expected. For seating, we were top row center and I really think it was great because the stage is pretty wide so this gave us a great view without straining to look at one side or the other. #theonlyplaceyoucanseeforeverandstillseenothingatall #onlyinTexas

Enjoyed a Tuesday night show last night while camping at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The musical was great, lots of dancing & interesting story. The backdrop pf the canyon was magnificent. The show was very patriotic, the water canyon light show & fire 🔥 plot line were all interesting. Would definitely recommend. There are concession stands & drinks bar outside amphitheater.

This is one of the most incredible and brilliantly created show with extremely talented people ever! Very Patriotic, history telling, inspiring and entertaining for people of all ages! Long drive to get there but so worth it so I'm coming back with more family and friends! Thank you to the production team and all performers for an amazing job and keeping this gem of a show going for years and years to come!

The performance of the cast and ensemble was seriously so stellar, felt on par if not better than plays of broadway like production. Such a cool atmosphere with the outdoor stage. I want to give a special shoutout to Brian helping guide the flow of traffic and pass out waters and also trying to help me find my parents when they were potentially lost on the CCC trail - he’s a real king.

Any question we all had these ladies answered in wonderful detail! This ride was more then i expected! We loved how the history about the canyon was told! We have went on several other trails in new mexico and i must say... this was the only one that you could feel the enthusiasm! Thank you for such a woderful fun filled ride and info!

I ABSOLUTELY loved my ride. I got to ride Rio and he is a very good sure footed old boy. 🩷 The trail along the canyon was beautiful and fun. Definitely a ride for anyone, I have taken many trails along the U.S. and I gotta say to put this one on the map. Melissa and Blair were so sweet, thorough, and a pleasure to meet. The horses at this facility are very well cared and taken care of that is easy to see. I’m looking forward to coming back. I called and chatted with Phylis and is was an easy booking the ride. Thanks 🩷🤣

SUCHHH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE! Allison and Katelyn were the best adventure guides. They are so sweet, helpful, and super knowledgeable in their history and horse facts. We did the 2 hour sunset ride and I couldn’t recommend enough!!

Cowgirls and Cowboys is very good at instructing you on just about everything to expect. The horses look very well taken care of. The trail has beautiful views and the canyon is even better! We got to see a coyote and a buck.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic experience riding along the canyons. Melissa and Alison were kind, funny and informative tour guides! We learned a lot about the history of the canyon, saw beautiful views, and made great memories along the way.

Absolutely unforgettable experience! Our 2-hour ride with Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West in Amarillo, Texas was hands down the highlight of our trip. The beauty of the Texas landscape, with its wide-open sky and the ride to the rim of the breathtaking Palo Duro Canyon, was something we’ll never forget. One of the most special moments was having our picture taken right on the canyon’s edge, an incredible keepsake that perfectly captured the magic of the day. What made the experience even more memorable were our amazing wranglers: Breeyn, Katilin, and Alison. They thoughtfully chose each guest a horse to match their experience as a rider. Their patience and encouragement were constant throughout the ride, and their passion for what they do really shone through. They shared fascinating stories and history of the area, and it was easy to see they genuinely cared about both the horses and the guests. It was also very evident the horses loved all three wranglers. ♥ This was more than just a horseback ride—it was an authentic and heartwarming western adventure. Can’t recommend it enough. We’ll absolutely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is an absolute must! It was such a fun way to see the canyon. Bailey and Alison were amazing and did a great job of explaining everything, making sure you were paired with the right horse and making it such an enjoyable experience!! 100% would recommend. We will definitely be doing it again if we are out that way again! Reno was so much fun to ride and my husband loved riding Whiskey.

The Tower Station & U-Drop Inn Cafe is a historical landmark dating back to 1936, featuring an art deco design. It has been prominently featured in the animated film Cars. The site currently functions as a museum and gift shop where visitors can find unique souvenirs. Ozzie's cafe, located on-site, offers homemade pie and other tasty food options for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, the adjacent museum and shop are highly recommended for those seeking an authentic Route 66 experience.
We were in the area and stopped in at this Visitor Center in Shamrock Texas... We love Route 66 and historic things... so since this was a Conoco Station that was built around 1939... and was refurbished and turned into a visitor center... eating establishment...gift shop... it was a place we had to stop..

Stopped in while charging our Tesla at the nearby Supercharger and we’re so glad we did! We had the meatloaf from Grandma’s recipe and it was absolutely amazing—pure comfort food done right. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the whole place has a charming, nostalgic vibe. Being able to enjoy a delicious meal while our car charged was the perfect road trip combo. Highly recommend if you’re passing through!

We stopped in for lunch. Staff was super sweet. We all had thr pulled pork which was delicious. And curly fries. 😍 The little visitor center is adorable and you get to put a pin where you're from. In our case we're moving from Virginia to Alaska, so put 2 pins in. 😆

One of my favorite places to stop. It just screams Old Route 66 and gives a nod to the old days. By the way, the restroom is always open to the public. We stopped at 9pm or so and it was open. It's also right next door to my all time favorite little motels. The Shamrock Inn.

A wonderful find while traveling thru Texas. Super friendly folks who are very dog friendly and allowed our boys inside their Cafe to eat besides us. Very yummy food and excellent service. Gift store has some fun stuff and we picked up a couple of matching shirts. They were also using the Square system for payment which made check out quick and efficient : ) Other positive was the Tesla Supercharger located in the back which brought us there in the first place. Fun place to take some memorable photos.... don't forget to stop by Y'all : )

Conoco Tower Station is a hidden gem that blends historic charm with great service. The iconic art deco architecture makes it a unique and memorable stop—perfect for travelers looking to experience a bit of Route 66 history. The station is beautifully maintained and has a nostalgic atmosphere that’s both welcoming and photo-worthy. The convenience store is clean, well-stocked, and offers a solid selection of snacks, drinks, and essentials. Staff members are friendly and helpful, creating a pleasant experience whether you’re just filling up your tank or taking a quick break from the road. This spot is more than just a gas station—it’s a piece of American history that still serves the community and travelers with pride. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

We had a great time at the National Route 66 and Transportation Museum. This is actually a huge series of museums on several topics. The Route 66 portion is well done with vehicles, memorabilia and even road side scenes set up with automatic narration that follows you as you move through the museum. Very well done.

This was totally worth the stop! Unfortunately we only stayed for about an hour due to obligations. I could have spent 4-5 hours wandering around all the buildings. The staff were very friendly and the entire place was clean. We went as soon as they opened on a Friday morning and it was not crowded at all.

We've stopped at multiple R66 museums since Chicago.... and usually favour the free ones due to budget. I cannot recommend this one enough... 5$ entry and so much to see. I was sceptical about the film, but it does help ground everything before you look round. The ladies at the desks are all wonderfully welcoming and a credit to the museum. We spent over 2 hrs there.... and could easily have doubled that. You can always pop out for lunch and come back as its a complex of buildings with plenty of food options nearby. This is exactly the type of place that should be supported rather than the more tacky tourist ones This is somewhere Elk City can be very proud of. Thank you all! 🥰🙏

The Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton, known as the Hub City of Western Oklahoma, offers a comprehensive look at the history and culture of the iconic road. Visitors can explore exhibits spanning over sixty years of history, including myths, signs, photos, and music. The museum also features a drive-in theater movie experience and replicas of 1950s-style diners and antique cars.
Definitely worth the stop. Nice little museum with a lot of information and history about Route 66. A few great cars, a lot of dioramas, and a ton of nostalgia. Very fun. The two ladies overseeing the museum the day we stopped in were very friendly, kind, and cordial. We arrived just 20 minutes before the museum was to close but they allowed us in anyway and they patiently waited for us to take our time and go through the museum at our own pace. Very much appreciated. Fun little gift/souvenir shop too. Again, definitely worth the stop.

Stafford Air & Space Museum

Museum of space history
Museums
Science Museums
Popular indoor/outdoor museum featuring over 3,500 aerospace artifact & interactive activities.
Yesterday, my two elementary-aged children and I had the distinct pleasure of visiting the Stafford Air & Space Museum in Weatherford, OK. We spent a wonderful two and a half hours exploring both the indoor exhibits and the impressive outdoor displays, including the playground. This museum is a truly terrific institution, serving as a fitting tribute to the remarkable Thomas P. Stafford and the city and trust that so clearly pour their dedication into maintaining it. Having last visited in the early 2000s, I was astounded by its considerable growth and evident ongoing expansion, particularly with the addition of more outdoor structures. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming. For our self-guided tour, they provided me with a comprehensive pamphlet, and, crucially, a scavenger hunt for the kids. This thoughtful touch absolutely kept my children engaged and excited throughout our visit. What truly elevates this already wonderful museum to a "can't-miss" stop is the recent acquisition of an F-117 Stealth Fighter, now proudly displayed in its own dedicated room. The exceptional rarity of this aircraft, and the clear effort involved in securing it, makes the Stafford Air & Space Museum an essential destination for anyone traveling along I-40 or experiencing the Mother Road. Beyond this crown jewel, the museum offers a fascinating array of exhibits. Highlights include Apollo 10 spacesuits, the Gemini 6A spacecraft, artifacts from the Space Shuttle program, and even a Moon rock. Outside, you can marvel at a Titan II missile and a diverse collection of historic aircraft, such as the impressive A-10 Thunderbolt II. The museum also features an interactive educational center with flight simulators, a kids' library, and unique items like a Cosmonaut survival pistol. The Stafford Air & Space Museum is more than just a collection of artifacts; it's an immersive and inspiring experience that captivates visitors of all ages. We left feeling both educated and thoroughly entertained, and I highly recommend it to families and aviation enthusiasts alike.

Phenomenal collection of artifacts, aircraft, innovation and history! Take a step into the past and strive for the future at one of the most informative museums I have ever experienced. The volume of information here is joyfully overwhelming, as it ties together man's desires to achieve the impossible with the visible results of his successes. Explore the Wright Brothers, the Space Race, the Cold War and much more with a lot of heart and feeling behind the history. This museum is a visual spectacle - great for kids, adults, veterans, innovators, and over-achievers!

This museum is outstanding! The staff did a fantastic job organizing the displays in an informative and beautiful way that we thoroughly enjoyed. It was very interactive and brought back a lot of memories of watching the space program unfold live when I was young. We even got to spend a little bit of time with one of the staff members in a private conversation about general Stafford and see some of his personal collection. My wife and I highly recommend that everyone go by and see this museum. Don't forget to go into town and see the astronaut man on the street corner as well.

I had no idea about this hidden gem in western Oklahoma! If you’re thinking about checking this museum out JUST DO IT. I promise you won’t regret it. Tiger Safari Zoological Park, located in Tuttle, Oklahoma, is a 45-acre habitat for a variety of wildlife including tigers, bears, lemurs, lions, leopards and other African wildcats. The non-profit organization not only provides a home for these majestic creatures but also offers interactive encounters and educational tours to teach visitors about the importance of caring for them. The park features sunset safaris and interactive games suitable for all ages.
It was the hottest day of the year and it was still worth it. We went on the early morning, mega-VIP tour. It included a guided tour and feeding opportunity, a “free time” wander, and an indoor encounter. They had donuts, coffee, juice, and other pastries for us when we arrived. We saw or fed every single thing the website said we would. It was a small group so everyone got a turn at everything. They gave us plenty of food/treats for feeding during the tour and after when we had our free time to wander. Emily was very knowledgeable about every animal we encountered and offered facts about the animals and included personality quirks. Emily also explained which animals weren’t people friendly and couldn’t be safely handled by the public. There was only one animal we didn’t see and she warned us about that- panther wasn’t interested in coming out when it was already 90+ by 8:00am- can’t blame it. For the indoor animal petting portion, they had several handlers with different animals so we didn’t really need to wait to pet or hold anything. We liked that they directed people on how to touch each animal to ensure the animals were safe. I was skeptical because I read about the location ahead of time, including every negative review. And like everyone else, I watched the infamous Netflix show about that other guy. There were some things I didn’t like, such as the big cats not having play water or the hyena not having a companion, but they had water to drink and Emily did talk about them visiting the hyena throughout the day and that they are looking for a companion (I’m sure finding a hyena is not easy). We have left other encounters for seeing concerning treatment of animals, and we didn’t see anything like that. We recommend going.

The vip is worth getting. They bring out some animals to show and tell, and some you can hold, and others just touch. The staff is wonderful, answering questions with ease. Everyone is really nice. The place is big so be prepared to walk you see many types of creatures. Some of the places lion very run down, but I'm guessing those places are more for summertime use. Beside that awsome place for kids to enjoy a nice day and learn some new things about animals they didn't know.

Entire experience started out a little rough as our reservation wasn’t in their system (we called to make the reservation), but we had paid in advance to stay in a cabin on property - staff seemed super surprised about our arrival and was not super stoked, which makes sense! Aside from this initial interaction, the whole place was incredible. We went on a weekday and were the ONLY people in the entire park! Which sounds crazy, but we went in their off season when folks were working or at school. It was actually really cool to experience it that way without a bunch of people crowding you! We could take our time with each animal and exhibit. We ended up getting a VIP Encounter with our reservation by staying on property, which entailed getting to meet at LEAST 10 different animals up close and personally. Our guide for this was Amy, who was so so so kind and friendly and answered all of our crazy questions. After this, we got to feed monkeys and kangaroos. What a cool experience!!!! Again, still the only people in the entire place. At this point it was dusk and more animals were out than when we initially walked through the park- all cats were very well fed and had enough room to move around in- their pens were HUGE! Loved seeing that and that they were well cared for. In terms of where we stayed, it was in one of the lodges at the back of the property where you’re next to the zebras! The place was so well worth the money with great amenities, very clean, and quiet (except for the animals you can hear at night which is so cool lol). 10/10 experience, can’t wait to come back. If you’re thinking about making the trip here, DO IT! This place deserves your money and your time! Don’t skip it!

Very cool experience! Deff worth trying out! The tree house we stayed in, the bathroom was down two flights of stairs outside, with no air ventilation. The treehouse was also lacking A/C. The ONE window unit they have upstairs only blows hot air. So bring a fan!!!! Emily was part of the park staff and she was by far the most laid back and educational person we met there! We really enjoyed her company! Waking up the sound of a lions roar, was terrifying yet peaceful at the same time!!!! Check it out! It’s an experience you’ll never forget. 🐅🦁🐒

Grandkids school trip from Shawnee. I expected 3 tigers and 10,000 screaming kids and once the crowd was gone.. or more like... I left the crowd and decided to go walk about while they got educated.... it was pretty awesome. I know 1st hand what it's like keeping up buildings, pens, ground, ponds bridges, animals for public display etc.. Great folks, and learning my" brother" firefighter runs the place was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully I'll return on a less stressful day. Some parents need a kick in the groin... letting thier kids bang on the glass agitating the tiger who was trying to eat them through the acrylic panel. After I thought this is how these places make the world news... the grandpa in me yelled at all of them.. including the parents laughing taking the videos. Otherwise... great time and surprising place.

Warm quarters in a relaxed lodge offering dining, golf, a pool, nature trails & water activities.
One of our favorite places to camp!! Hiking, fishing, and even a swimming pool in the summer. They also have horses to ride. It's beautiful and when we have gone its always been well maintained. Tent sites, RV and cabins available. We have our fall trip already planned!!

Clean & well kept duplex style cabins. Generous concrete driveways. Cabins within moderate walking distance to lodge and kayaking. The little store had good country style meals and good service. Bring your own pillows and extra bedding. Beds are not very comfortable, but they were way more comfortable than tent camping. (Though tent sites available!) Concrete picnic tables, fire pits and grills are in the backyard of the cabins. Great for an inexpensive family weekend trip, an hour away from OKC/Edmond.

I hadn't been there in years. My mom's family used to have family reunions there, and I hadn't been in the lodge since then (1977). Same lodge, but updated. Nice, with a local flair about the Cheyenne/Arapaho tribes. The dining room has changed a lot, but was nice. The lakes are dry, just a small channel going through them. Dam broke on the small one and then the large one failed. Don't count on fishing. The golf course looked to be in excellent shape. It's unique in that you're playing over and beside canyons. If your ball goes way back in the rough, leave it. Let the snakes have it, and drop another. It has one of the nearest polls in the state, feed by natural springs.

We made reservations for 3 nights. We get here and can’t find an office to check in at. Find our way to our campsite and start exploring. There is no lake to speak of, water is so low you see the ground and weeds. The beautiful waterfall in the picture, the road going to it has been closed. The pool, #1 you have to pay to use, #2 it is only open on the weekends, we are here mid week. Found the lodge and asked when you check in for camping, she said, oh you’re good. The restaurant wasn’t open either. The shower you have to purchase tokens for, and each token last 3 minutes. To say the least, we are extremely disappointed. The pictures show a beautiful lake, waterfall, pool and restaurant that we will not be able to Partake in. Oh yeah the general store was closed the day we arrived.
Patricia C — Google review
Beaver Dam Campground is nice with clean bathrooms and showers. There are picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Both lakes at the park are still empty as the construction work continues on the dam. It would be nice if the park's website would provide information on trail closures and the dry lakes, due to construction. They do not provide a timeline for the lakes being reopened. Instead, it just mentions that the lakes are stocked with trout. The paddle boats on the lakeshore by the store are just sitting on dry ground. We even saw someone with a kayak on their vehicle expecting to get on the water, but obviously that wasn't happening. The General Store is open for small gifts, snacks, and toiletry items. The only hiking trail that is open is the ADA trail that leads to the lodge, then continues to Inspiration Point. The trail to the point, from the lodge, has steep ups and downs, we only made it about halfway, then turned back because the trail was too steep. We had perfect camping weather, and did get in 5 miles of hiking. Just wish we had been provided more information on the trail closures and dry lakes before we made reservations.
Fred R — Google review
If you’re a big fan of golfing in the wilderness this is the place for you. If you were expecting a serene forest (by Ok standards) you might get that, the creek that comes out of a concrete hole in the rock; down a concrete path, because the natural route was removed, isn’t as “wilderness” as one would expect. It’s a good area to cruise through, but the golf course at the entrance and golf cart tracks everywhere really ruined the experience for us.

Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History offers extensive displays showcasing the natural and cultural history spanning back four billion years, along with a diverse range of artwork. The museum is particularly appealing to children as they can enjoy exploring dinosaur exhibits, observing various animals and engaging in hands-on activities. Additionally, visitors can benefit from extra educational activities on weekends and special offers for members. The facility features clean restrooms and an elevator for those with mobility needs.
Amazing place! Great place for children and adults. Not to big but not to small. So many interactive activities.

Unfortunately, I have a bad back, so I had to sit down a lot, and that probably affected my enjoyment of the place. And my rating! Truth be told, this place was boring in some places and interesting in others. This museum seems set up for archeology and anthropology students, which is probably why it's on the OU campus. But I enjoy (or would enjoy, if my back didn't hurt) visiting museums, so I did enjoy it (or again, would have).

Truly had an extraordinary time! There was so much to see and we learned so much! I loved the hands on aspect of some of the exhibits, and loved that there were questions throughout to see if you knew the answers already! It was such a fun experience and would highly recommend!

I love it so much. It was great they have so much cool and interesting stuff here. The dinosaurs were my favorite part but they have an amazing native American exhibit and wildlife of Oklahoma overall the museum is great!

It is a place to enjoy many sculptures and fossils of dinosaurs and other animals, games for children and a shop to buy souvenirs from the museum.

This was a lot of fun, and the best part was meeting Nance, who, after telling her it was our first time visiting, gave us a tour in the bone section. She had personally been on several digs herself along with years at some of the best museums. She was knowledgeable and funny and made the experience that much more fun. Besides that, the rest of the museum was awesome and educational, and we had an excellent time. Can't wait to go back with the kids.

So much fun here!! Our kids love all the dinosaurs, animals and hands on activities. So much to read and learn here. We've been so many times and still haven't read it all. Extra activities on the weekends, at least once a month and special offers for members are available, too! They have clean bathrooms & their staff are kind and helpful as well! (There is an elevator for those that need it too, woo!) We highly recommend Sam Noble Museum!

There is alot to do and see especially if they have an event like the butterfly thing. Everyone was great! The girls helping out with the butterfly feeder and the thing catching the butterflies( and taught us about the real vs cast bones, was the best) , and the lady who helped us with the microscope were my favorite of them all. They were so energetic and involved the boys. We've been through alot and we needed this!!! Now back to Tulsa.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a poignant tribute to the victims of the 1995 Murrah Building bombing. The memorial features a reflective pool and a garden, along with 168 chairs representing each victim of the attack, including 19 children who were in the building's daycare. The museum provides in-depth information about the bombing and Timothy McVeigh's trial, offering visitors context for their visit.
This was really cool. I love that the memorial took out part of the street in order to make the reflecting pool. It is moving and quiet in the middle of the city. It was simple but poignant. My son was with us (18 yrs) and he did not take know any details so it was great to be able to talk him through history that I remembered from when I was 12. We did not have time to do the museum, which would have answered a lot of his questions but we did the best we could but the interactive video screens were extremely helpful. I truly recommended stopping if you are in OKC. I also suggest going across the street to the church memorial and reading the story there. Worth the time.

Review of the Oklahoma City National Memorial ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 Stars) Visiting the Oklahoma City National Memorial was an incredibly moving and humbling experience. The site is beautifully designed, with powerful symbolism throughout—especially the Field of Empty Chairs, which honors each life lost in the 1995 bombing. The atmosphere is respectful and reflective, and it’s clear that a lot of care went into creating a space for both remembrance and healing. One of the highlights of our visit was speaking with a National Park Ranger on site. His deep knowledge and thoughtful storytelling added a whole new layer of meaning to our experience. The insight he shared about the significance of each part of the memorial helped us connect more personally with the events and the resilience of the Oklahoma City community. It’s clear he is passionate about his role, and it made a real difference in our visit. This memorial is a must-visit for anyone in the area—both to pay respects and to better understand an important part of American history.

Amazing memorial! Since 9/11, it seems this tragedy seems to have been largely forgotten, but this memorial and museum does a great job of reminding us how big this event was. The memorial with the reflecting pool is beautiful and the part with the chairs is heartbreaking once you realize the small chairs represent the children that were killed. And the museum is very informative and the videos very moving. Glad we went and I highly recommend it!

What an incredibly touching memorial that can move the strongest person to tears. You can feel the pain at this memorial with so many innocent young and old lives lost. This was a beautiful memorial to honor those lives lost and those left behind. The outdoor memorial was very well constructed and the museum inside was eye opening and jaw dropping. Worth the experience as you will learn, see and hear actual recordings from that day. 💔

Visiting the memorial and museum was a powerful experience. I was 5 or 6 when this happened and don't have the most vivid memory of it so I'm glad to have visited to more truly understand the gravity of this tragedy. Our country would benefit by everyone visiting to see what happens when we give in to hatred and extremism but also to see the best in us when we come together and stand united.
Alex K — Google review
Such a beautiful tribute to all affected by this horrible event. Planned on just going to the memorial but it was so beautiful that I had to come back the next day to the museum. While at the memorial a ranger came out and gave us a bit of history on the memorial, museum, and some facts about the bombing. I recommend everyone visiting at least once.

The OKC Bombing Memorial and Museum brings us back 30 years this year to one of those moments you'll never forget... the Memorial is beautiful and so beautiful compared to the violence that ripped thru the Heart of the Sooner Nation. The museum well curated and taught me things I never knew about that day.

We were traveling back from the Rocky Mountains and decided to stop and see the memorial. It was absolutely beautiful. We did not have time to see the museum but the gentleman that helped us outside was great about answering any questions we had. Definitely worth the stop! The gateways were very touching.

For those seeking less intimidating interactions, there are interactive habitats such as the Flamingo Mingle and the Herpetarium Wetlands Walkway.
It had just finished raining so the air was cool and the animals were out. Super stunning baby giraffes stopped me for a while. I also got to see the newest baby elephant. I loved watching the other elephants live and protect the baby. Super cutie. What a nice, relaxing day. It couldn’t not have been better.
Heather D — Google review
Been bringing the kiddo here since he was very little. Summer tradition for us for sure. This zoo has improved tremendously throughout the years in a positive direction. The bathrooms could be cleaners and the supplies could be stocked more frequently and more misters. But other than that the facility is clean, the animals seem healthy and tended to. And the facility seems full of animals. Pricing is affordable as well if you do a daily entry or a seasonal pass. The food prices could be a little better and maybe more carts for waters, etc. But other than that this zoo is a fun thing to do with the family.
Victoria R — Google review
Such a fun day! The zoo is super clean, easy to get around, and full of amazing animals. My favorite part was watching the elephants play, and the flamingos were so pretty! It’s a great spot for kids and families — and honestly, it was just as enjoyable for us adults too. A perfect way to spend a few hours.

Large Zoo with alot to see and do. We didn't get there until 12pm and stayed until just about closing time and I feel like we had to really rush to see everything. I'd recommend getting there earlier than we did 😂😂 Ate at the Canopy Cafe. Food is pricey, but portions were large and delicious. My daughter really enjoyed the Emus, fish, goats and Flamingos. It's is a very hilly zoo as well, so be prepared for a bunch of uphill walking if you don't plan your route beforehand ( we didn't 😂😂). Thanks for a great day OKC Zoo! 😊😊

Took the kids on a day trip to the zoo. We had a great time seeing all of the animals, riding the merry go round. The food prices are a bit much but the overall experience was positive. Clean and lots to do!
Nathan S — Google review
We had such a great time at the Oklahoma City Zoo! Our group included seven adults, a 3-year-old, and an 11-month-old—and we were all able to get in for just $150. Such a great value for a full day of fun, especially with our extended family joining us. The zoo itself is beautiful, clean, and impressively large—we didn’t even make it through the whole thing before it was time for nap time! We especially appreciated the interactive stations set up throughout the park, where friendly zoo staff shared info about the animals and let us touch things like a real zebra pelt. It was a great way to keep everyone, kids and adults alike, engaged and learning. The variety of animals was wonderful, and we were happy to see the animals in large, thoughtfully designed enclosures. My son was completely captivated by an ostrich that followed us along the fence—definitely his favorite moment of the day! I personally loved watching the red pandas—they were so fun to see up close. While we didn’t eat lunch at the zoo, we saw plenty of people enjoying generous portions, and I have to say—the chicken tenders looked surprisingly good (and I don't usually say that about zoo food!). We also noticed a few spots offering adult beverages throughout the park, which was a nice bonus for a relaxing stroll. There were also plenty of fun photo opportunities scattered around the zoo, which made for great memories and some adorable family pics. All in all, we had a fantastic visit and would definitely recommend the OKC Zoo to anyone looking for a fun, family-friendly adventure!

This is the most beautiful, fun zoo I've been to yet. Well laid out with care towards art and landscaping. There are mist spraying locations to cool off, the drinking fountains have a new option that allows you to place your empty water bottle there and it fills up. You can bring your own lunch. And so much more!

Very clean bathrooms. Lively animals. It was cool to see how much room the animals had. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Sad part was that all the penny machines were either out of order or pennies. We ended up only losing a dollar from the machine.

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the history of the American West. The museum showcases dioramas, artifacts, and art that document and interpret the rich heritage of cowboy culture. Settled by pioneers during the 1889 Land Run, Oklahoma City has deep roots in cowboy country and is home to former cattle trails, ranches, and birthplace of numerous Western film stars and entertainers.
We went here as part of our Route 66 trip. Absolutely would recommend this. Amazing displays of everything cowboy! All done to a really high standard too. You could spend a couple of days here and still not see everything.

My soon to be 13 yrs old just said if this was the first museum he went to on this trip it would have been great. Hubby and I were impressed, we loved the art work. Once again beautiful pieces that look like photographs and not paintings. The staff was kind and knowledgeable as well. Super clean and beautiful I wish the price was a bit less for teens and families at all adds up.

We visited the Cowboy Museum. It was okay and worth the visit if you are interested in cowboy history. The Museum Grill is the museum’s restaurant ((but not really a “grill). We ordered the chef salad, flavorful tortilla soup, and gigantic southwest chicken wrap. All were very good! The museum also has a nice gift shop.

My husband and I had such a great time visiting the Oklahoma National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how beautifully everything was displayed. We really enjoyed seeing all the incredible artwork — the paintings truly captured the spirit and history of the West. The museum also had a fascinating collection of saddles, guns, clothing, and other historical pieces. Every room told a story, and it was both educational and fun to explore. You can really tell how much thought and care went into curating everything. It was a great experience overall, and we’re so glad we made time to visit. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and looking for something both cultural and memorable!

From just pulling into park, everything was so organized and the parking attendants were always smiling and friendly. Upon entering the facility, everyone was extremely welcoming, so friendly, and willing to help if you needed it. Now for the show, Celtic Throne. The show was fantastic. The dancers of all ages, the singers, and the musicians were amazing. You can tell they love doing what they and working together. A family of performers. An incredible show of so much talent and hard work. I would come see this show over and over again. I would like to thank every one of them for sharing their gifts for all to see. This is a must see show if anyone has the opportunity to see it. The venue, Armstrong Auditorium, is a beautiful venue with very friendly people running the facility. Thank so much.

Our first time to visit this auditorium, and we were not disappointed! Beautiful facility and the acoustics were great for performances. We saw the Celtic Throne, and the talent of these young adults and kids was amazing. Plenty of informed staff to help with doors, directions, history and parking. Oklahoma State University, a prominent public institution established in 1890, is renowned for its strong emphasis on athletics, science, and business programs. Situated in the lively city of Stillwater, often referred to as the 'Birthplace of Red Dirt Music,' the university infuses youthful energy and a vibrant arts scene into the community. The campus itself boasts picturesque spots like Library Lawn, Theta Pond, and Old Central.
This was the best school I've attended. The faculty and staff highly value the students and students are quite considerate as well. There are many activities and amenities that none of the other universities I attended offered. That includes 4 other states. This is why we bleed orange here!

How is a STATE school against the 1st amendment!?!! Who cares what that young man's beliefs are as long as he is not hurting or threatening anyone! This former family estate tells the story of the Marland family & their fine art collection.
I can not even begin to explain how amazing this tour was. I have been here twice and will be going again anytime I am in the area. The history is amazing. The home is well preserved and taken care of. Stunning! Employees there are kind and answer any questions about the tour or history.

When we passed by the mansion it was unfortunately closed. So we passed through the grounds and took a few photos. I don’t know much about Mr. Marland but know he was a successful businessman as well as a Governor of Oklahoma.

Oh my! I have literally all positive things to say about Marland Mansion. I had my dream wedding here, August of 2025. The staff and Kelsey are amazing! Kelsey went above and beyond, she was easy to work with! The mansion is so beautiful! One of the most beautiful and well preserved mansions we have here in Oklahoma. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Catherine S — Google review
Overwhelming breathtaking beauty. Architecture in variety from the start to finish. Your better off to take a guided tour so you can get more information (unless you know someone who has worked there or lived in Ponca City their entire life); go into more rooms of the mansion, but also the chapel & Marlins’ wife’s house as well. Walking the grounds can be quite beautiful as well; seeing the statues, the ducks and flowers. To bad they haven’t restored the pool to it’s former glory( that would be definitely a delight & beautiful area for a wedding and special occasion too! 😉

Website says they are open 10-5, last self-guided tour being 3:30. We showed up and there is a wedding taking place. The website did not mention anything about it being closed, nor did their Facebook mention it either. Nothing suggested that we should call in advance either. If I lived in town, I wouldn’t care, but drove 40 minutes out of my way on a Saturday to get here.
Chris N — Google review
Hi inquired onto this place and just had the opportunity that happened to be hired for an event at the location. So I tried to help with some tourism to the location upon my visit. I noticed trash on the grounds constantly. And ultimately, the tyrants and city hall make all decisions for this property. So initially accepted and even invited, because the town wanted to make money off my video. It was inquired to the city board members or coordinators, and they denied my request.Even though these two accepted it and even scheduled with me. However, I know it was not their fault for the denial nor will it be their fault that this post is posted here for the next three years. And you can't take it down. First, make note that they will charge you five dollars just to poke around. Young lady kelsey, I met was very nice. And very welcoming, and when we came in contact with each other, however, when you walk into the door of the place there's no greeting and you kind of just mosey in and get the hang of you gotta go to the gift shop.Immediately to pay your fee for your fare to walk around on your feet. And a fun fact, well, maybe not so fun. Perhaps disturbing, but the gentleman owned this house was married for several years upon getting married. He adopted his new wife's daughter after several years of marriage and fathering this daughter. The mother passes away as the mother passed away the father. Immediately and gnawled and reversed the adoption, and one year later, married his daughter from his former widowed. However, the reason i'm giving the place such low readings is that the town is completely disconnected from the functions of this property. And the grass looks like trash. There's constantly geese and turkey vultures landing at the place. And if you've never seen a turkey vulture, and it came down and started getting close to you, you would think it was a seven forty seven.I promise. Lol The other purpose for my low scoring is the city and their authority governing members of city board members or any city worker at all.I have a city worker that works at the solid waste place. He takes an hour and a half lunch on company vehicle every day that our taxpayering dollars pay.So i'm a bit sour about the city. There's many, many other things, but we will. That's not about this. This is about the mansion. If you want somewhere with an exterior walk path to walk and stretch your legs out.Because you've been on the feet road of path. This place is interesting and worth at least checking out.
Chris M — Google review
We visited the museum on a quiet day in May 2023. Because there were almost no other visitors on site, we were lucky that David, the Executive Director, could take the time to give us a fine guided tour with excellent explanations and exciting stories and we were also allowed to ask lots of questions. Well we were very interested :). So we had a great time with David, learned a lot and were very impressed! There we have had really luck. On this way a big thank you to David for this excellent Friday morning! The museum is very interesting in many ways. The life story of Mr. Marland and his family is remarkable and amazing (and also a little scary and sad), the building is technically as well as stylistically, optically and architecturally exciting, there is a lot to see and you can dive into the past with pleasure and let yourself be touched if you like. Now, yes, we had the best museum guide you could ever wish for. So we would recommend every visitor to take a tour! Really. The museum and its many exhibits and facilities do need their explanations and become all the more interesting. This information cannot be perceived in depth during a short unguided tour - unless you read up on the literature. But even if you go through briefly, it will be impressive for any visitor. About the content: A self-made multi-millionaire builds himself a huge villa with technology that was unique at the time (air conditioning, heating, elevators), international flair (he had craftsmen come from Italy, for example, etc.) and exciting, clever and very detailed architecture. However, the whole object is not dully ostentatious but impresses with a real feel-good atmosphere. The museum doesn't look that big from the outside, but it's huge inside. Our conclusion and recommendation: The museum is definitely always worth a short visit - but we strongly (!) recommend to take your time and enjoy this wonderful impressive museum for two hours during a museum tour.

The casino was fine I'm actually here to rate the restaurant. This happened to be the worst high-dollar restaurant I have eaten at in a long time. I have eaten there numerous times before but today was the worst of the worst. The scallops my wife ordered were not cooked properly. They had no sear on them and they were very rubbery. Whatever the scallops came on top of I believe it was like a pimento something was freaking disgusting. The overall Taste of the whole plate of that order was not good at all. I cannot believe a chef would say yes this tastes good let's put this on the menu. I ordered the burger because I don't know why I ⁷was in the mood for a good burger. I always thought there was no way somebody can mess up a burger boy was I wrong. Did not even eat hardly any of the burger the onion rings I ordered were all stuck together and didn't even get cooked right or crispy. So it's like I was eating just a big thick onion. I don't know about whoever is reading this but me or most people that I know do not just bite into onions talking about that's good food. Not only was the food nasty but itw took forever to get there which I don't understand. How can an order take so long and come back so messed up? The mail was so nasty I just wanted to wash this bad food taste out my mouth with something that tasted better than dirty ass, hurry up and pay my bill and go eat somewhere else. That's what we did. The waitress did a hell of a job trying to make it better seeing how we did not eat hardly any of our food and we left it there. The manager however was nowhere to be found. He or she never came up to our table and even tried to see what was happening and going on. The waitress tried to get us to order something else in her face or male but after waiting so long for something so nasty we was not going to do that again. Who's to say that they would even have made our meal taste right the second time. It makes no sense to me how somebody so slow can't end up cooking a meal so horrible. I remember it's been awhile since I've been there but every other time I have eaten there the place was super busy and qd1fqa and the night we visited there were so many empty tables. It's understandable why there were so many Empty Tables with no management around and having food going out like that. They did try to make it better by giving us a free dessert but they couldn't even get that right and they gave us the wrong dessert. I think it's time to get a new Chef up in there with new menu ideas because what that place has going on exactly why that place is so empty

Restaurant was excellent, I had the macaroni and cheese chicken breast, and it was made to perfection. The breast was lightly fried to a perfect golden brown and buttery, and the macaroni and cheese had a little zip to it. The slot machines were the same as anywhere else, with the same payouts. That being said, I did better on slots that I did on the table games, but that's how luck works. Table dealers were a mixed bag, had one dealer who had the personality of a wet mop. (I think he was concentrating too much) but the roulette dealer was very down to earth and a conversationalist.

First time dropping in. Had a good time. Got to play one of my favorite games and the food in cafe hall area was good. Staff was nice. Wish the truck parking wasn’t such a hike. I also wish that indoor smoking wasn’t a thing anymore for casino’s but apparently it’s just part of the culture. all that being said, I’ll be back.

We are not high rollers we just played the slots. We come for the entertainment not to get rich so we had fun. The hotel was awesome!! Staff very friendly, rooms smelled good , they were clean and the room was big. I would stay again.

Five stars to Sam, Sophia, and Paige. Excellent customer service. Looking forward to hanging out at the lizard again soon. By the way, how did you come up with a name, Tin Lizard?

Very nice place, clean and not as crowded as some where the machines make aisles. The smoke wasn’t as overwhelming. They even helped us get new players club cards when the booth was closed.

Reward system is not the best, no high roller tables. Machines that never pay out & table bonuses that are ridiculous. I've been here before and after the renovation, still feels like a Dave & Busters lol

Museums
The Cosmosphere, located on the Hutchinson Community College campus, boasts the largest combined collection of US and Russian spaceflight artifacts outside of Moscow. The museum features a planetarium, dome-shaped theater, re-created rocket lab, and numerous space exhibits that will transport you back to your childhood dreams of becoming an astronaut. Visitors can explore artifacts flown in space and replicas of rockets and space shuttles while learning about the space programs of both countries.
This place was awesome. The kids enjoyed every second of it. We saw 2 different movies in the theater domes. They really loved the science lab. The science lab was very informational and she involved the kids. The museum was amazing. The cafe and theater concessions were expensive.

A very interesting and informative afternoon. It's nice that they have taken every age group into account. I'm old and had a good time, and I also could see my grandkids hanging a blast. Bring a jacket! It's really, really cold in there. I would call first and see how busy they expect it to be that day. If it's going to be pretty slow, then it might be best to buy tickets when you're there. Theater prices for food.

Very cool place to go. You can learn lots of space & history. They have several movies that you can watch, which I did not because my grandsons didn't want to see any. As far as buying tickets in advance, that would be your preference. The time that I did have to wait in line, It wasn't terribly long. They also have a cafe on site and they have a very nice gift shop as well. There it's also a kid zone where smaller children can go in and play and make things with an adult.

We had a fairly large group,4 school age children, 3 adults, bought the "everything included" ticket, had a blast! Informative, fun, all rolled into a well kept facility. We especially enjoyed Dr Goddard lab show and the Blue Angels simulator. Great museum kept the kids interested. I recommend!

This is a really cool place where you could spend the entire day! We literally closed the place down and still didn't get to do everything! Well worth the drive off the interstate! The gem for us was the command module Odyssey from Apollo 13! Staff is uber friendly and made for a fun time. It wasn't crowded, but it was Thursday, which made the visit quite enjoyable. The planetarium shows were topped notch! If you're into space, put the Cosmosphere on your must do list!

Hutchinson, KS has a gem among gems when it comes to Air and Space museums. Do not miss this one. You’re greeted in the lobby with the sight and within reach a flown SR-71 and it gets better around every corner. If you love space flight this is Valhalla.

Much better than I expected. Spent 2.5 hours there looking at and reading the exhibits. You cou blow thru in 90 minutes if you don't like reading scientific and historical info. There are additional features such as a dome theater which I will view on another visit.

Strataca, Kansas Underground Salt Museum

History museum
Sights & Landmarks
Strataca, located in Hutchinson, Kansas, is a renowned salt mine museum that offers an immersive experience into the city's salt mining history. With over 30 years of operation, it stands as a vital pillar of Hutchinson's economy. Visitors can explore the massive salt deposit by descending 650 feet underground in just 90 seconds via a double-decker hoist. The museum also features guided tours, train rides, and exhibits that showcase the significance of salt mining to the city's financial stability.
We arrived too late on Sunday for the last tour and they are closed on Monday, but they were nice enough to let us stay in their RV parking lot so that we could wait for them to reopen for tours on Tuesday. I'm so glad we stayed and waited. This was by far our favorite attraction in Kansas! From the moment we entered the hoist I felt like we were on a great adventure. We traveled 650 feet underground in just 90 seconds. We had such a fun time exploring the underground tunnels, learning about how the salt is mined and moved above ground, and about the underground storage facilities used by the movie industry and more. I'm so glad the government didn't dump their nuclear waste here so that we are now able to explore this underground treasure. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable and you can tell they take great pride in what they do.

This was a really interesting activity during my recent visit to Kansas. I was able to walk in and buy a ticket for the Combo tour (Salt Blast Pass and the Salt Safari). Had about a 10 minute wait until they took us down 650 feet in a dark elevator. For the first half hour we were on our own to explore, look at the exhibits and watch the videos. Then we got on a small train for a narrated ride through the mine. Following that, those of us who chose the Safari were seated in a small electric cart driven by Larry. He took us all over the mine, telling us many interesting facts and stories and pointing out different things along the way. At one point we entered the non-electrified area, so no overhead lights. The only light was from the cart's headlight and the flashlights he gave us. The road was very bumpy but Larry is a very careful driver. This was the best part of the whole combo tour and we saw the mine as it was back in the 1940s and 50s - trash and all! A couple times we were allowed to get off the cart and pick up chunks of salt as souvenirs. Highly recommend touring Strataca, and if you're the least bit adventurous be sure to do the Combo tour!

This place is really fun and definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. We had tickets for 2 tours and the dark ride I think, and yes, in one tour and the dark ride, you are allowed at one time each to choose a rock from a pile that you can keep. Tour rock was to be no larger than a hard hat, dark ride no larger than your fist - or you could fill a small bag with rocks, which was actually better in this case because most rocks seemed too large. There are no bags to carry these rocks in and you will need to carry them around until you leave for the most part. There is a table you can leave them on while you continue to shop or explore, but there are no bags to store them in. Whole some information overlaps in tours and can get repetitive for folks who have been to each, they have their own charm, and I enjoyed them. We did learn a lot about the salt mines and the tour guides were all quite educational and friendly. The shaft to get down/up can be a little shaky and sometimes they leave the light inside off. We did on the way down and I felt a little dizzy after - they will turn it on if you ask, it's not a big deal. It was much better on the way up with it on. They have all sorts of events going on, and if we were closer, we'd definitely check them out. This place is worth visiting for sure. Children will find some enjoyment, though it is mostly a museum. The special events might be something they would enjoy more.
Natalia W — Google review
We had so much fun looking and learning about the mine and all the history. I recommend going on all 3 rides thru the mine. Be sure to get your rocks too! The museum was fascinating and don't worry if you don't have enough time to walk thru it before going into the mine, you will have plenty of time after. It's hard to believe you are 650 ft underground! This looks us a little over 3 hours. I will go here again if I get in the area again!

Strataca review WE GOT THE SHAFT!!! 😁 We went down a mine shaft today that is. Toured Strataca, a former salt mine section 650 feet below Hutchison, Kansas. Starting with a 90 second hoist ride down at 10:00 AM and ending with a 90-second hoist ride back up at 2:30 PM, we saw a lot of exhibits explaining the history and techniques of salt mining. The sections we were in were actively mined beginning in the late 1940's through the late 1950's. Active mining has been ongoing and continues to this day mining horizontally at the 650 foot depth. It's all connected, but the current active mining is now about 2 miles away from the section we were in. Besides walking in various exhibit areas, we also got to take 3 tram/train tours back through different sections. We definitely recommend doing the combo-pass to include the "salt safari". It was not "claustrophobic" as the mined sections were all about 50 feet wide and 10 feet tall. It is a consistently about 67 degrees down there every day all year round (very nice). These mines produce road salt, not table salt. One of the rules in the safety briefing was "Don't lick the salt." 👅 Sections of mined out areas are now used for safe, secure, climate controlled, dry storage (as salt naturally removes moisture from the air). We also got to see some of the storage area and some artifacts from movie companies that are stored here. A great experience and well worth the time and admission.

My wife wanted to go to this and I wasn't too excited about it to be honest. But when we got in 650 ft below the ground level and started looking around this is a really cool place. I would recommend anybody taking an afternoon to go in and checking it out. Lot of very cool history down here

We drove from Topeka Friday morning, June 20, 2025. We bought the Combo Pass which included the Salt Safari and the Salt Blast. We had a great time! It was nice and cool, 68 degrees, 650' underground. (97 degrees outside that day) The staff were all very friendly and well informed in all facets of the mine. The tram tours and train ride were fun and informative. Everyone has such a wonderful sense of humor! We also stopped by the gift shop and bought a couple of T shirts to have a remembrance of our time there. We would recommend adding Strataca to your bucket list!

Had a blast exploring this active salt mine with just a flashlight. You step back in time by visiting areas of the mine that were mined in the 40's & 50's. Everything is perfectly preserved as it was when the miners left that area of the mine. You can even experience total mine darkness, which is cool and creepy at the same time. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Evan and Barry were our guides, they do a great job telling you the story of the mine as they take you back to the 1940s & 1950s. This gem is certainly worth a visit.

Beautiful, clean, fun. Expect a lot of walking so the earlier you go to beat the heat, the better. Probably a good idea to wear a hat or use sunscreen too. Loved seeing the animals up close. The gift shop was very nice too. We bought our tickets online and saved some money.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL zoo!! The entire zoo is very clean to include the bathrooms. There is a large assortment of animals to see & the animals appear quite healthy. There are bathrooms scattered throughout the zoo. A large amount of motorized scooters with and without shade are available for rental (in the $30 range for the entire day.) There are also motorized animals like the ones in malls for rent-I believe they were $26/hour. A cup can be purchased for $10 that gets you free refills for the day. We really enjoyed feeding the giraffes and petting & feeding the stingrays! Such a special place. We really enjoyed ourselves. Plan a whole day here so you can see everything!

Had a wonderful Saturday exploring the Sedgwick County Zoo with two friends! We booked our tickets online, which I highly recommend—it was simple and saved us $25 total ($5 per ticket) compared to the gate price. The zoo itself is beautiful and was decorated with these incredible, giant animal lanterns from some kind of special event. The snow leopard and butterfly displays we saw were a magical touch and made the walkways even more fun. We spent most of our day exploring the Africa, South America, and Australia sections, and the habitats are truly world-class. A few tips for your visit: Arrive Early! The zoo is HUGE. We weren't able to see the North America section because we ran out of time. To cover everything without rushing, I'd say the best time to get there is between 10 and 11 AM. Check for Closures: We were disappointed to find the Cessna Penguin Cove was closed for maintenance. It’s probably a good idea to check their website before you go. Animal Naps are Real: It was a sunny day, so the lion and tiger were snoozing in the shade, and we couldn't find the red panda. It happens, but if you want to see them active, an earlier or cooler day might be better! Even with the few things we missed, it was an amazing day out. It’s a top-notch zoo and a fantastic value.

My Service Dog’s first visit did not disappoint! Employees were knowledgeable upon our arrival and directed us in to receive his staff-shirt-colored bandana (unfortunately not a keepsake and must be returned upon exit) and map of restricted areas for him (not many, and each of the restricted buildings had a very clearly labeled sign for SD’s on the entrance). There are no dedicated relief areas but many grassy lawns with a cluster of trees or bench you can duck behind to be more discrete. It was so fun to see all the exhibits through my pup’s eyes. The “wild lights” statues and things were set up which made for twice as many cool things to look at in addition to the animals- highly recommend going during this time! Lots of animals were up close and/or moving- we had the luck of a warm but breezy day so no one was scorching, but you still want to wear sunscreen, pack water, and plan to walk! The Beastro makes for a great lunch midday- the Falafal Caesar Salad was surprisingly AMAZING! Thanks so much SCZ- we will be back! (We wish we could have kept our pup’s bandana as a memento! Please let this be an option next time- we would buy it if needed :)

I was visiting from out-of-state and had to go to this zoo. It was beautiful and did not disappoint! The animal habitats were nicely laid out, and animals could be clearly seen. The penguin encounter was closed due to new glass replacement, and the stingray exhibit was closed for the season, but everything else was great. It was pretty with the lantern decorations even in the daytime. I would also recommend the train ride.

I absolutely love the Sedgwick County zoo. We are members of the Rolling Hills zoo because we live in Salina, but if we lived closer we’d be members of the Sedgwick County zoo in a heart beat. This zoo is clean, large enough to spend a good several hours, but not so large you need multiple days, and it’s obvious they care deeply for their animals.
Dustin P — Google review
What can I say about the local zoo? Lots of walking, plenty of things to see and do. Coming up on winter, many of the animals are off exhibit this time of year and there are many places under construction. However, the enclosures are generous, the staff is super friendly, and the overall traffic is pretty low so seeing your favorite animal is always easy...almost never more than a minute or two wait due to traffic. Wife and kids love this place, just make sure to pack some snacks if you're making a day of it. While the concessions are available, they're expensive for everything as it's a funding source for the zoo. Overall, it's a good time for the family and a great way to spend a day with the family if you grab the membership for the year like we do.

Beautiful place. Quiet and peaceful during afternoon hours. Really enjoyed the green trees, fresh air and resting under the shade. They have a kids play area with pavilion. My kids 8 & 11 loved it here! This ended up being one of our best stops on our road trip! We came during an evening and although we saw it all, we had to make our way through very quickly and I wished we had planned more time. It's a very big place!! The carousel wasn't working the evening but the attendant took the time to show us the automatic music machine, which was kind of like a player piano and honestly I think we enjoyed it more than we would have the actual carousel ride. I was so grateful for that attendant's time and patience to show us that! This is an absolutely gorgeous place! If I lived closer, I would visit here weekly!

Botanica was absolutely beautiful! My daughter in an aspiring photographer so she loved the experience of being able to take her own photos (not shared below as they are still being developed). We loved how everything was labeled so it was easy to identify. The fountain was definitely my favorite as it was surrounded my lilies, my favorite flower. The only downside is that there isn't anywhere to really cool off. It was super hot and while we were able to find shade and some relief in the building with the carousel, that was about it. We skipped a good section of the gardens just to get back to the main lobby and hang out in the children's lobby to cool off.

The Keeper of the Plains

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Keeper of the Plains is a 44-foot-tall sculpture that overlooks the confluence of the Big and Arkansas rivers in Wichita, Kansas. The statue was created by Native American artist Blackbear Bosin as a gift to celebrate the United States' bicentennial in 1976. Today, the Circle of Firepots surrounds the sculpture nightly, burning a Ring of Fire to honor Native American culture.
What a neat experience! A free attraction we were able to see as a family. The fires light up right at 9pm and stay on for 15 minutes. The area wasn't too crowded on the bridge or on the river bank where we walked. The entire vibe was very peaceful. I'd sit out there every night if I lived in the area.
Tanisha W — Google review
I've visited The Keeper of the Plains multiple times now during my various wandering and adventures around wichita, and everytime i pass by the area i make an effort to stop and rest here. The history, culture and education you can find here is educational for the kids, insightful for the average person, and Enlightening for the elderly. The smell of the fresh river water, The sounds of flutes and drums on the wind, there's no reason not to visit when you're in the region!

This place is incredibly beautiful. There's a bunch you can learn, and even more gravesites than you would think. There may also be a creepy looking troll somewhere in the area around the statue. Peaceful music plays, a nice water fountain with nice cold water. It's a nice place to just sit nearby and relax. At night, 9pm, fires are lit in the containers around the Keeper for around 15mins.

While on vacation, I wanted to check out a local park. We went to Keeper of the Plains. Upon arriving you can see a large statue and music playing. The surrounding scenery is very nice. Lots of history to read. Very unique and very cool park. Worth stopping at if you're in the area.

Neat stop. Free parking on both sides of the bridge. I would get there about 830 as it gets busy. Good to walk around a bit and look at everything before they light it. You can stand under it ( next to fire) or there are benches on both sides of the river. We didn't get to see the torched lit as it was too windy. Don't forget to look for the troll. He's on the east side. Past the sitting area, up the sidewalk. You can see him better at night.

Such a great moment for our visit to Wichita. We found it to be a pensive experience with great music and people reflecting upon the lighting of the fires. The bridges alone are worth the walking experience.

Coronado Heights Castle

Parks
Park & hill with a castlelike structure built by the Works Progress Administration in 1936.
Breathtaking views! Worth the climb to the top to view the landscape as far as the eye can see! Tons of tables to bring a picnic table and enjoy an afternoon or catch the sunset!

We love visiting Coronado Heights! The views from the top are absolutely stunning—some of the best in Kansas, especially sunset! The hike up is short but steep, making it a great hill workout with a rewarding payoff. It’s a peaceful spot to explore, take photos, and soak in the scenery. A beautiful and unique place to visit in Kansas—highly recommend!
Carolyn S — Google review
We were staying in Lindsborg, so figured we would check out this area. There was a steady group of tourists at the site while we were there so it must be popular. The views are very good of the valley below. Pretty much a 360 view of the lower elevations. There are some hiking trails in the area, but with high humidity and temps over 100, we didn't think it was a good idea to experience those. There is the main castle which has stairs to get to the top level (but not to the top of the tower). Nice views, cooler, some benches to sit on. Nice photo angles looking through the windows. I'm sure sunrises and sunsets would be pretty memorable from here. There is another foundation located on the site across from the castle. There are numerous little "pods" that are along the hillsides with picnic tables in them. Great views, relaxing, but so hot! The other building looked cool so we walked over to it. There were long slits for windows. I figured it was something military based. However, upon entering this building, we realized it was the restroom!

On our way back from Kansas, we stopped at this place. It's way out in the middle of nowhere and has great views. It's an old tourist attraction built in the 30s. It's very cool. If you find yourself in the area, stop in and check it out. Be great for a sunrise or sunset.

What a pleasant surprise out in the middle of Kansas! I can't wait to come back and visit on a beautiful day and have lunch on one of the picnic sites with the amazing views.
Lisa H — Google review
This place is pretty cool yet it's very rundown. Built in the '30s and probably modernize or updated at some point in time. The facility has some really old vault toilet. I did not see any running water anywhere nor did I see any actual trail markers at any point. The trail and surrounding areas was what due to rain so if we didn't venture much further than the actual grounds and the road. There are a large number of outdoor picnic areas which can be challenging for anyone to get to because they are built into the natural landscape of the surrounding area. There are appears to be a section that potentially existed at one time and has completely collapsed due to a rock / mudslide. One of the chimney exist yet there are no picnic tables or other areas around it. The volt toilet is ancient and old and a reach really bad as it appears to have been emptied an ages. There are no modern convenience for safety items. There appears to be a newer slab at the entrance of the castle which has a pretty rough floor. If you are capable and willing to traverse this area it's well worth the effort and experience to come here and visit it. If you have challenges it might not be the best place. As for the grounds and the picnic area is unlikely that anyone uses it often. There are weeds growing up in every crack and crevice all around. The real plus side to this visit was the stunning view due to the higher elevation.

Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve

11,000-acre nature preserve housing a visitor center, accessible hiking trails & historic buildings.
Incredible experience! My husband and I hiked the 7 mile loop through the bison pastures. At about 3 miles in we saw the herd. They were really close to the trail. It was a little scary knowing there was nothing in between us! Make sure to bring lots of water and a hat would help. The sun is relentless. There is absolutely no shade anywhere. (It's a prairie 😉) Also, a fabulous place for bird watching.

It really puts you in the heart of the Flint Hills. The staff at the visitor center were helpful and knowledgeable. It is definitely a moderate hike. Lots of elevation changes. The views are spectacular! We saw two or three bison. The hike to lookout point and back was around 3 hours. Great experience.

This is worth a stop! The prairie is beautiful and bustling with life, and we enjoyed walking around the main house and visiting the visitor center. We only did the nature loop because we had our dog with us, but there are many more trails! There is a water fountain and clean restrooms. It gets very hot very early on in the day.

We took the bus tour and were amazed at the variety of animals we saw on this unspoiled prairie. The buffalo herd was pretty far away but a few of the loners were near the trail. The walk through the barn and house was also interesting. well worth the stop.

Such an incredible experience! We got to visit with the park rangers a bit and then hit the trails. Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat if you come in June! There are so many trails to visit we ran out of time to try them all (a good problem to have!). I can't wait until we come back again!

A highly recommended stop. Located right off of Highway 177. This is one of the Prairie lands and the United States beautiful wild flowers heard of buffalo you may see Longhorn and Brock horn. You’re more than welcome to hike the mini trails. We took the bus tour.

I especially drove to Kansas to see this Prairie, a tiny beautiful remnant of what was. Thank you Nature Conservancy!! We hiked 4 miles round trip into the Windmill Pasture and saw 7 Bison. Wish there had been more. Eerie to see them with nothing but Big Blue Stem between you. We came in early May, would like to return after Memorial Day and late summer to see more color. Would also like to return for stargazing, trails are open 24/7. Four miles in the Sun and we were tired, imagine walking alongside a covered wagon for 15 miles a day for 6 months, half the visitors we saw never went beyond the visitors center.
