We booked this venue for my daughter's wedding. It was beautiful and exceeded all expectations. Kim was a wonderful venue coordinator making sure every detail was attended to. All of the guests complemented the venue and the uniqueness of it all. It could not have been a more elegant setting. I highly recommend this venue to anyone planning a wedding and reception!

Absolutely lovely venue for a wedding. Just attended a wedding and was impressed with the venues charm. Even the end bathroom stalls had windows with exposed brick. Beautiful details throughout.

Great experience here for our friend Jordans wedding. The staff kept the place clean and made sure our drinks stayed full. Good layout with lots of space.

Take a step back in time and enjoy the atmosphere. I watched a steel magnolia production put on by local actresses. The atmosphere and the show were fabulous. Considering this place for a date night when more shows are available that interest me.

Fun place to shop with the kids. Lots to choose from. They have home made truffles and food ice cream. You can also get Frito pies and hot dogs and other snacks. The Candyland Cottage in Scott also offers gem mining. Fun for the kids.

I’m writing this comment on Thursday November 21st 2024 and I bought this candy Wednesday November 20th 2024. Every candy I bought was expired and as hard as a rock, and some candy’s were even expired up to two years. Me and my gf love this place but we didn’t realize how old most of the candy is but the ice cream is great here! And the atmosphere is wonderful
Noahs M — Google review
The low rating is because I purchased 2 truffles. The peanut butter whip was awful The center was dry and chalky, it fell out of the center when I took a bite. The chocolate was not the best. They were over $15 lb. I have no problem paying for really good chocolate that tastes like I paid $15lb for, but this clearly was not. I also bought a raspberry center, it was ok. I will stick to See's. It was a fun place to find a lot of candy, old fashioned and current. There is ice cream available.
Karen M — Google review
I have been to the other Candyland location a few exits east of here, and decided to come by to check this location out. It is smaller than the other location, but packed with just as much goodies. The employees are friendly and helpful. There is no special party room here. Ice cream, fudge and unique candies galore!
Andrea F — Google review
Great place to stop for a treat right off the interstate. It has an old time ice cream parlor feel. They sell blue bell ice cream scoops, but also have a great selection of fudge, beautiful looking truffles and an array of candy. They have a seating area inside the store as well as benches outside. They have a drive-thru window if you can’t make it inside, but the cute decor is worth the stop inside. Nice, friendly, fast service.
Allyson F — Google review
I do apologize for someone creating a fake account in my name and giving a bad review. E.J. Holt is a fake account. I love coming to your store and seeing such a large selection of candies, fudge, ice cream.
Ernest H — Google review
First time I've been to this one I've been to the Candyland Cottage in Scott a few times. I love both places. The employees are very friendly and helpful. When they're not busy they chit chat with the customers. I have one of my grandsons for the weekend and decided to stop by. What child would not be happy in a store full of candy. They also serve milkshakes drinks and food.
Arletta C — Google review
Visiting Candyland Cottage and Ice Cream Shoppe has become a family tradition on any trip we take that takes us by Rayne, Louisiana. For elevated palates, they have freshly made fudge, truffles, and bonbons. For the nostalgic, they have classic candies and long-forgotten childhood favorites. For a hot day or a needed refreshment, they offer ice cream and frozen lemonades. There’s almost any sweet treat you might desire!

Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist

Mentioned on
20 lists
Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, also known as La Cathedrale St-Jean, is a striking Catholic cathedral located at 515 Cathedral Street in downtown Lafayette. Built in 1918, this landmark features bold red and white brick with German Romanesque architectural details such as octagon-shaped turrets and rounded arches. The property also boasts a 500-year-old large oak tree and the oldest cemetery in Lafayette, holding the remains of prominent local families.
Very pretty red brick Cathedral with a truly enormous live oak tree protected in the yard and a really interesting cemetery out back. We arrived on Christmas day in the afternoon when it wasn't open ahead of the Mass but I think it's normally open.
Sheila F — Google review
Beautiful place. It was raining when we came, but it didn't take away from the beauty of cathedral. The great big tree was amazing as well. Nice little historical place to stop if you are in the area.
Robin J — Google review
Such a lovely place to sit and reflect. Even if you are not Catholic.
T — Google review
Beautiful place. We were there a couple of days after the snow storm, which added to the beauty
Stacy B — Google review
So beautiful. This gorgeous Cathedral totally captures the love, mercy and appreciation for all life as bestowed on humankind by God Our Father. Daily mass with faithful followers of “The Way” was a highlight of our vacation. The family that prays together stays together. The stained glass windows with statements of faith written in French reflect the faith, hope and love of past generations that trusted. Let us take a lesson from the history books! Come to see and experience this beautiful home of God.
Ann B — Google review
I was the visitor of the town, and went for the service. Very friendly Priests and Parishioners. Attended 11 am Sunday mass. Choir was excellent. The church is beautiful. Serene. The Cemetery is creatively managed and the 500 years old Oak tree has it's own special place . By luck, it was the Parish family picnic on 3rd November 2019. I was warmly welcomed by the Priests and Police Marshal. Had a good time and tasty food all for free.
Vijay D — Google review
This is a beautiful, and historic church in downtown Lafayette. We are fortunate that this church is open to the public, so you can see how beautiful it is. There is a beautiful, huge oak tree outside, that you can’t get close to. Come inside, take a seat, and take in the beauty of this church. This place is full of history, and the detail work in this church is amazing. I highly recommend that you come in and visit this church.
Robert S — Google review
The oak is glorious! One of the biggest you can see in the US. We were so happy that the cathedral is open to the public. Check out the cemetery as well.

Vermilionville Historic Village

Mentioned on

Historical place museum
Sights & Landmarks
Vermilionville Historic Village is a living history museum located in Lafayette, Louisiana. Situated on 23 acres along the Bayou Vermilion, this outdoor cultural park offers a glimpse into the lifestyles of the Acadian, Creole, and Native American communities from 1765 to 1890. The village features restored 18th- and 19th-century homes, showcasing the daily lives of early settlers. Visitors can explore 19 attractions and observe artisans demonstrating traditional crafts.
We had a lot of fun walking through this historical village. The houses were moved here from the surrounding areas to share the history of the area. It was mostly self-guided, but some of the houses had actors dressed in historical garb giving you the history of the area or house. It was a cool experience to be able to see the different kinds of homes that folks lived in and hear the unique history of the area. They do have a cafe on-site, but we didn't eat at it. Plenty of parking too.
Kelli K — Google review
This is truly a fantastic place to walk the trails, learn a bit about plants and trees, and see some beautiful peacocks. The grounds are immaculate, and the views are stunning. We did not have time to visit the cafe, but we are planning to return and stay at the bed and breakfast.

Highly recommend the Vermilion River Boat Tour with Captain Mike and Tour Guide Loree!! Perfect for small groups that want to experience the beauty/history/science of the Vermilion River coupled with the fun of a boat ride! We had 2 adults, 3 teenagers, and an 18 month old. There were about 15 total on the boat- it was very comfortable and pleasant. Loree is very knowledgeable about everything regarding the river so bring your questions! Captain Mike was so welcoming and took very good care of us and even showed us how to tie boating knots - we felt very safe! I've known and traveled with Brandi Comeaux, the director of guest engagement, for several years now and she puts together fantastic travel opportunities like this one that combines fun and learning! Great job Vermilionville!
ANGELA V — Google review
It was probably the best time I’ve had in a long time! The boat tour was so much fun! We did see some alligators but they were so quick to sink down. We saw several beautiful flowers and birds! The fish were jumping, the bugs were swimming, it was teaming with so much life! Now let’s talk about the restaurant… the atmosphere was amazing. We were seated in the back window area where you can see the river and the next boat tour passing by. The food? DIVINE! I already made a review about it but my some who’s autistic and doesn’t rave about food, raved about this and said it could compete with me and kick me out the water lol. We toured leisurely and even though the heat was something else, it didn’t stop us from enjoying our learning of our history and the trials we had to endure. Will be back again next month with a friend and her son!
Bethany B — Google review
Such an AMAZING place. Especially for us, Europeans. We have learned so much about the history of the area!!! Guys who worked there were brilliant. Their knowledge about the history was incredible. It is an absolute MUST. Also, you MUST visit the restaurant. The best food EVER
Julia M — Google review
Wow, I underestimated the size of this place! We got here around 2 pm and only got to see part of the village before closing time. Jeremy was working in the gift shop and was wonderful and gracious. There are several REAL authentic homes to tour with period accurate characters that work and answer questions about the history. The restaurant was closing when we arrived but I heard good things about it. Plan to spend all day here.
Ricky I — Google review
Vermillionville was great! Very friendly staff, even the cats. There was a lot of information and things to see. There were so many houses, filled with history. We could have spent a lot more time there, if we had had it. My favorite part was meeting Mike. He was extremely informative and told us a lot of incredible historical facts. He definitely has a passion for it. I really do wish we had more time to listen to him. So if you go, keep an eye for him if you want to learn more. He also takes care of the feral cat colony that helps with keeping venomous snakes and vermin away. I hope to go back someday. They have a lot of really cool things to see. They even have a quilter and loomer. The restaurant there is also very good! Definitely plenty to see and wonderful people there. The only thing that really sucked was hearing about how awful and destructive some of their visitors are. If you go, be respectful. It's all a museum and they want it to be around for a very long time.
Deirdre K — Google review
Go visit! Great place with an endless amount of interesting stories to dive into, told by dedicated and knowledgeable people. Will strongly recommend to do a guided tour - but remember to visit the little restaurant as well

The Acadian Cultural Center, part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, is a free museum located in Southern Louisiana. It offers an educational experience about the history and culture of the Acadians, also known as Cajuns. The center features multimedia displays, artifacts, and exhibits that delve into the origins, migration, settlement, and contemporary life of the Acadians in Lafayette and South Louisiana.
Right down the road from Vermillionville. Lovely educational addition to my trip. Plenty of interesting things to read and look at. Did not catch the movie but there is a spacious theater here as well.
Luis H — Google review
Its a nice visitor center type spot that gives you great history on the Acadiana region and admission was free of charge. The ranger on duty gave us a presentation of the makeshift musical instruments. The gift shop on property is reasonably priced. Parking is great and the facility is right up the road from Vermilionville Historical Village
Roux_504 — Google review
Great little visitors' center. Gives a good introduction on Cajun culture. The film tells about the expulsion of the Acadian people from Nova Scotia and how a number of them ended up down here in the Bayou. Many of these people are distantly related to the Acadians in the far northern part of Maine. No charge to enter, and there is a good chance you will run into people from Quebec or even France. Would highly recommend.
Alex T — Google review
The National Park Service has a beautiful exhibit here. The movie was very moving and taught me a lot about the Acadian story. It is a history that needs to be remembered and understood. I have a new appreciation for my wife and her ancestors. The Ranger (William) was very helpful and made our visit special. The exhibits are colorful and speak to a rich history where family is one of the most important things. Check this place out!
David D — Google review
As Canadians and Quebecers, we have so much respect for our fellows « Acadiens » and we visited the Acadian Cultural Centre with interest and curiosity. We learned a lot and had not realized that le « Grand derangement » brought Acadians in many places in the USA. Rangers at the Centre were kind and helpful. The movie presented is very informative but presents Acadians as victims and I think that we need to celebrate their resilience. I was expecting the movie to be available in French (more than just the subtitles) but I understand most of the visitors don’t speak French. Boys got their junior ranger badge and had fun finding the answers in the exhibit. The centre is free and we truly enjoyed our visit.
Patrick T — Google review
WONDERFUL exhibits that are detailed in history and artifacts. This is the place to learn about the history of the area. Rangers here we’re very friendly, and place is impeccably clean. Check out the green area outside the center as well, peaceful and quiet.
JETS — Google review
Was in the area for work. Had some time and I’m glad I was able to visit! It isn’t big, but a great glimpse into the local history
Doug K — Google review
We love everything about this place. The content, the friendly service, and the cleanliness. The documentary gives a nice explanation of how the Cajuns came to be. I have been visiting the center for years. When we have out of town visitors, and the schedule allows, we take them to the center. It is a very nice place that is free. 😊

Brandy G — Google review
A gorgeous place to watch spectacular sunsets. Spanish Moss hanging from the Water Tupelo and Bald Cypress trees is a perfect backdrop to end the afternoon. The sounds of nature are incredible and it is a bird watchers delight.
Tandra S — Google review
NOTE! Rookery Road is CLOSED at entrance from Prairie Highway! You will need to enter from the south end where the boat ramp is located (near Swamp Tours dock). Google Maps will take you to the closed road. Nice trail, and great scenery. Great for bird watching and a peaceful hike. Kayaks launch is available, but no signs to tell you. It could use more signage and marking, but very beautiful place.
Bob T — Google review
This is such a lovely lake and I’ve always loved it, but it’s starting to lose its charm. All of the commercial boat tours have started to ruin that lake. It’s almost impossible to have a quiet day at the lake without 5 to 7 tour groups coming past you. And that’s when you’re only out for an hour or two. I will steer my kayak into a little cove to be out of the way, and the tours will come right up along side of you with no regard to leaving space. I’ve seen the tour boats go into the restricted nesting area when they are not supposed to. Anything for a buck. Not that long ago you could spend two minutes on that lake and see giant alligators. There wasn’t a time when I could go on that lake and not see at least a dozen alligators the size of my kayak or larger Now, you’re lucky if you see a 4 to 6 footer. I’m giving four stars for the lake itself. It would be five without the loss of peace and quiet and wildlife. The tours get zero stars
J M — Google review
Every sunset is different but I can highly recommend this stop. Been here many times since I was a kid and keep coming back when I can. It is a beautiful place where you can easily observe alligators among other flora and fauna. You can drive right up to the water and even use the gravel road to see a little more of the swamp. There is even a hike/walk around the lake if you are interested in something longer and more scenic

This was my first time on a swamp tour and it was a 10/10 experience. The pricing was excellent. The scenery was beautiful and we saw so many gators and various bird species. We got close enough to get great pictures. Mr. Jimmy was our guide and he was knowledgeable/very engaging. To anyone that’s wondering should they book: don’t hesitate, book now!

Absolutely wonderful experience!!! We have made a lot of tourist spots and experiences around all of Louisiana, and this is our absolute favorite. Beautiful scenery, wildlife, friendly knowledgeable guides, who go out of their way to make sure you get the best possible experience and tour. I can’t describe to you the experience in a way that will do it justice…. Just absolutely amazing. We came in for the ten o’clock tour. In late October, so the weather was great, we did see all kinds of wildlife including a dozen gaters and all manner of birds. The price is outstanding!! $50 for two people!! Tell where else you get and hour + tour for that kind of money! The gift shop is welcoming and souvenirs very affordable. Drinks refreshments and even cold beer are available!! Please don’t miss out on this. It’s fun for any age!! Restroom facilities, and plenty of parking for any size rig or RV. We highly recommend.

Went this past Sunday with a large group. Because there were so many of us we were split between two boats — I was fortunate to have Jimmy as our captain and guide. He was so knowledgeable of the area and had a great eye for spotting wildlife. This was my first boat tour and it was great to see the beautiful scenery Louisiana has to offer. Thank you, Jimmy!
Michelle C — Google review
We had a great time. Perfect weather Jimmy was our guide and he was amazing. We saw Ibis, Egrets, Herons, anhingas … even a Spoonbill! Also a nest of baby alligators. The yellow flowers growing everywhere made it a memorable day! Highly recommend!

Our guide Brandon was very knowledgeable about his history and wildlife of the area. This was an amazing trip. He operated that vessel very well "impressive". We saw plenty of wildlife and gators. I would highly recommend this to anyone. The landscape is amazing.

The Tour doesn’t disappoint! Highly recommended for anyone who wants a real swamp and bayou experience. The guide is extremely knowledgeable about the area and the surrounding wildlife. The guide also made sure we were all safe regarding the wildlife. I know I will be back during different times of the year to experience the wildlife during more seasons.
Donna C — Google review
My wife and I were visiting the area, she wanted to get off the beatin path and see some alligators, this place did not disappoint. Price was reasonable for what it was, the tour guide was knowledgeable and nice. We had a great time and got some good pictures of wildlife and learned quite a bit about the wild life too!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an amazing experience with Cajun Country Swamp Tours! Our guide, Bret, was fantastic—super knowledgeable, engaging, and attentive throughout the tour. He shared so much interesting information about the area’s history, wildlife, and ecosystem, which really made the experience special. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and we were lucky to see a wide variety of wildlife up close. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic and educational swamp experience. Thank you, Bret and team!

We came with family from out of state so they could get a small taste of the swamp. It was a great tour with an exceptional guide. He was funny and very informative. He knew a lot about the area and took us where we could see a variety of animals. He even timed it, so we got to see a beautiful sunset. I would highly recommend taking one of their tours.

We did an 8am tour and we were not disappointed in wildlife! We saw many alligators, egrets, herons, osprey, bald eagle, and kingfishers. I now know the name of an anhinga! Our guide was fantastic and so knowledgeable, we had amazing time! I’m so glad we chose this company for our tour.
Kristen G — Google review
Just got done with the tour. Took my fiancé for his birthday and we had a blast. The weather was beautiful, the scenery and nature was very enjoyable. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and humorous. He even went back for people who were late and we had more time on the boat than expected. Highly recommend. We will be back with more friends and family. Thank you

My husband and I go to lake Charles every summer as a birthday trip. I’ve wanted to do a swamp tour for years and this was EXACTLY what I hoped for. Educational, fun, relaxing and seeing gators! Our tour guide was so familiar with the water and that immediately put me at ease. 10/10 recommend!

Great swamp tour! Seen a bunch of different wildlife and nature. Bret our guide was amazing with our family and very informative. Glad we stopped by on our way home to Texas. Definitely recommend this tour.

Loved this tour. Our guide Brett was what made the tour so great. He was very knowledgeable, gave my family and I some great educajun. Saw gators, birds, bugs, and vegetation.

This is bucket-list worthy! First off, I looked into swamp tours near New Orleans and after 10 back-to-back calls coming as soon as I clicked “booked now” made me insane and say not it. Discovered this one and loved it immediately from reading the genuine bio and history. We were in town for our son’s baseball tournament and made it by the hair of our chinny chin chin, but Bret (Brett?) didn’t flinch. He welcomed us and immediately started schooling us on this gorgeous lake. If you think “beautiful swamp” is an oxymoron, think again! It was soooo serene. We saw several gators. SEVERAL! Just chillin. The birds were phenomenal. The turtles were precious. The TREES! The trees were so whimsical. He not only knows his stuff, but he lives and breathes it. We could have stayed on that boat all day. BOOK THIS ONE YALL! It was so cool!

This is a wonderful place to come experience the Cajun culture. Displays, videos, classes, and demonstrations are available that cover many aspects of the culture. Cooking, music, crafts, and the Cajun dialect of French are all discussed in these activities. Ms. A. Bellard proved to be especially informative and welcoming - thanks! If you are a visitor to the area and are curious about Cajun culture, or even if you are a local and want to find out more about your own history, I highly recommend using the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center as a resource.

Through exhibits, music, food, and language, the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is preserving and celebrating the precious cultural contributions of the Cajun people in this part of Louisiana. Welcoming staff and strong community partnerships and programming make this center feel like an extension of the local community -- making this a very special National Park. Visit to learn, have fun, and see your tax dollars at work for the public good.

The native American Indian artwork pieces are so intricate. I loved that the pathway to view is very open and spaced so that every step is another view that just appears ...for an eye-popping time. There are different educational classes on the Acadian / Native people and the way of life from this prairie region.

Part of a NOLA outlying area visit, we visited the theater to hear real Cajun music from the locals. Very inexpensive concert/radio show but very entertaining. The host swung between English and French on occasion. Lots of dancing during every song. I'm a new fan of Cajun music!

What a living legend Marc Savoy is. Very nice man and his shop is a true cajun classic.
Craig C — Google review
This is a Savoy family store with old and rare records of theirs and other Cajun musicians as well as accordions and the parts used to make them… records books and real Cajuns!!
Rickie J — Google review
This jam often features tunes that you might not hear in other local jams. It is "tuned up," centered on a D accordion. Bring some boudin; sur un the back of you are a beginner.

The best Saturday morning jam around!!
Christine W — Google review
The Savoy Music Center is an historic place in the history of Cajun Music. The weekend jams are an important event that happen rain or shine, every week. This is the stuff that makes the Cajun Music Community what it is. Mark Savoy has given history the gifts of his music, his accordions, his spirit and energy, and his children. Plus the store has super-high amounts of information and is a business with high, high integrity.

My wife and I visited the Saturday Morning Jam Sept 7 2013 and had a great time. Wonderful cajun music and not a stranger in the house. Cant wait to return Marc is a wonderful host.

My parents ordered an accordion and the transaction went terribly. Also, the accordion did not work properly when it arrived. During the process of trying to get the accordion Marc told my mother he could be my mother's best friend or worst enemy. Poor treatment of customers gets you one star.

Would highly recommend. Had a blast on the after dark tour. Our captain, Kevin, was wonderful and had lots of tidbits of interesting facts. The water and lights are beautiful at night.

2 of the 3 phone numbers listed on the website don't work. When I did call the other one, I spoke with a lady who said she'd talk with her husband about our interest in the boat tour. A few days go by and hadn't heard anything; called again and left a voicemail and still never heard back. Don't know if they're still doing tours, or what the deal was. I had researched boat tours in the area, and they sounded good, but not hearing anything was disappointing. We ended up finding another one that was really great, at least!

Brilliant - what an experience of a lifetime to take my family visiting from Scotland out and be able to hear this second generation local's expertise and knowledge of a region we love so much and consider a very special place. Booking experience was a pleasure and Kim was a delight to be out with - we all loved every minute with him - truly a real gentleman. Kids (11&12), parents and grandparents ALL got something special from this thanks to Kim really going out his way to show us the beauty of the region and none of us wanted it to end. We will be back and cant recommend this highly enough. Thank you

Great intimate tour through the swamp filled with blooming blue wild hyacinths. The guide/owner is passionate about teaching his guests all he knows of the area.
Ellen C — Google review
We five booked a trip with Kim, Sr. What a hoot! And the terrain was pretty terrific as well. Good, safe boat, even girded against “flying carp”, that can “kill you” according to Kim. Never heard of such a beast, but he had the conscientiousness to plan - plus keep his insurance costs down! Truly loved the experience. Highly recommended. Ask him about Joan Rivers! Best in Spring!, but he makes it worth it even in late January.
Wayne P — Google review
This tour is amazing! Anyone in this area should go. Rain or shine. We saw some beautiful birds and lots of alligators. They do not use air boats so it is quieter and you get to enjoy the wildlife because they aren't scared off. Kim is very knowledgeable about the area and really cares about the Bayou and the animals living in it. He also really cares about his customers as he has installed nets on the sides of the boats to protect you from jumping carp. They are all over and several hit the boat. These fish are large and can seriously hurt people but you won't have to worry about it here. It was raining during our tour but they have ponchos for you to wear and we were on a boat where you could sit inside so you wouldn't even be in the rain. A side note, Kim is a Veteran and so are several people in his family, all the more reason to take this tour.
Michelle E — Google review
When I read Kim was a veteran I knew which tour we were using, we support veteran owned businesses. Kim and his son were great. They were both very knowledgeable of the area and wildlife. They use outboard motor vessels not airboats, so you are able to hear their stories about the area and enjoy the sights and sounds. We will be back in the spring.
Jason B — Google review
Our second time out with these folks & the experience was as excellent as our first. Kim Sr. & Kim Jr. are knowledgeable about all wildlife in the area and very respectful of them. They are experienced at guiding wildlife photographers and seem to know the whole basin without having to reference a map. Can't wait to go again!

Bayou Teche Brewing

Brewery
Food & Drink
Bayou Teche Brewing, located in Lafayette, has been gaining popularity and expanding its production and distribution. The brewery offers a unique beer garden experience with live Cajun music that allows for conversation without overpowering noise. Visitors can enjoy the refreshing taste of their LA-31 lager while soaking in the lively atmosphere. Adjacent to the brewery is Cajun Saucer Pizza, adding to the overall experience.
This place is the charm of a brewery you want. 2 rails of taps so you don’t have to wait, plenty of seating inside and out, and all your 80’s arcade nostalgia you missed. Once you walk in, you’re treated by fun, funky local art. There is the first bar rail with all your taps and the pizza kitchen attached. You can order both right there. If you do get a pizza, they will give you a buzzer so you can go enjoy the outdoor seating. The 2nd taproom has your full taps like the first, but also your cooler to grab individual bottles for a make your own 6pk or a 4-6pk already made to go. And off of that, you have a small arcade room to tap into your inner child. Head outside for plenty of benches covered by the trees and umbrellas. They do big fans to keep you cool even in the summer heat. A stage for bands in the evening. And the kicker…a separate building just for arcade games. Go ahead and be a kid. Play them all

I have made my way to Bayou Teche Brewing at any available opportunity. The people, the food, the beer, and the atmosphere are everything that feels like home. It's not a rake 'em in, push 'em out kind of place. The people working there are 100% genuine. I've always felt a great vibe from everyone. I love seeing people love what they do. I have seen this every time for the last 7 years that I know of. The cuisine is definitely fusion. With which base as a standard can vary from week to week. The Cajun charm is always there, but cultures intertwine it leaves me dumbfounded.

Atchafalaya Welcome Center

Tourist information center
Visitor Centers
Welcome to the Atchafalaya Welcome Center, a well-maintained and clean rest stop for travelers. This convenient spot offers a chance to take a break, grab snacks, use the restroom, or even stay overnight with ample parking space for vehicles and big trucks. The area is safe, with abundant lighting at night. With separate sections for regular vehicles and 18-wheelers, both sides provide restrooms and vending machines.
I love how different this welcome center is! The facility is clean, full of brochures to different places, friendly staff, free coffee, and original decor. My favorite part of this place is the different, unique, informative, hands on (books and touch screens) spaces that tell of the rich history (native Americans, building of the highway, flooding and how the flow of the waters have changed the land, and more). There's animatronic animals and a small theatre to watch a 4 minute video about the history and wildlife. There a few statues outside of wildlife that you can enjoy. You can also take time to pay tribute and admire the tribute to Airborne Forces. I plan to visit this area in the future and enjoy the wildlife that surrounds this area.

Had a wonderful time last Friday! Played Buffalo and hit in the high roller area. It's not much more than elsewhere in the casino. Played two dollars and fifty cent a spin in high roller section on a wheel of fortune machine. Had a good time, laughed and cut up a bunch and hit a nice payout! Really relaxing outting if you pace yourself. Enjoyed the atmosphere and passed a good time! Thanks!

FIRST TIME HERE IT WASNT THAT CROWDED….. BUT YES I AGREE THAT THE SMOKE IS VERY VERY HEAVY… SECURITY IS VERY VERY TIGHT EVERY INCH THERE WAS ONE IN SIGHT AND MOVING AROUND THE LOCATION SEEMS VERY SECURE FOR YOUR SAFETY. THE VENTILATION IS NOT GOOD THATS ALL.. OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD LITTLE ADVENTURE.

Rooms fairly clean but maids do not come to your room unless requested. Washing both machines are broken only one had sign I started a load for husband for the next work day washing machine would not work had to take soggy clothes upstairs handwashing them and wring them out to then come back downstairs to dry them only to find yet again only 1 dryer half way working had to put in $4.50 for 3 cycles for 1 load not including the $3.00 lost from the washing machine not working and other dryer. Also pool is out of order. Ice machine doesn’t work on first floor you have to go all the way up the elevator that shakes terribly by the way to the 4th floor to get ice. The only good thing I can say about this place is the staff is very nice other than that we will never stay again.

Beautiful old church in one of Louisiana's oldest towns. Opelousas is going through some leaner times, but the parish is keeping the church up so well. I was so happy to walk inside and see how it all looked. The cemetery next door has some very old graves, including two soldiers of Napoleon.

Saint Landry Parish was established 21 years before the Declaration of Independence in 1776.In this church I like the architecture, and decor. The statues and stained glass windows are beautiful and help me meditate on the life of Our Savior and the examples of holy people. The people of the parish seem welcoming. Most of all, I enjoy the faith and reverence with which the Holy Mass is celebrated.

Such a beautiful place. $3.00 per person to get in. Watch the wild life or listen to the birds, or camp out. It's so peaceful out there. Lots of trails, love the pier, walking out on to the lake. mother nature at her finest, just breath taking.

We happened to reserve a fabulously private site on C loop, but the roads were horrific with tons of pot holes. Surprisingly the staff were not very friendly. We were surprised as we have encountered southern friendliness everywhere else. The kayaking is fabulous. There are a lot of bass boat people fishing. The splash pad was great to cool off after kayaking. The arboretum is pretty. The north campground seems much older and less occupied. The bathrooms are old and need to be updated. The camp host Jeff was the friendliest person we encountered. The sites have only electric and water, but there are 2 dump stations as you leave the south campground. You have to watch the fire ants. The cabins on the water look so romantic. We saw an alligator 🐊 at the bridge where everyone goes fishing. There is a great market 2 miles south of the park which also has gas. The town of Ville Platte is also nearby.

Camp Claiborne Museum

A fascinating place to stop. It’s not totally the museum you might expect to see in a major city. This is in part due to the fact it is privately owned. The odds are if it were government owned, roaming through all of the faclities would be a lot more restricted. There are a couple of buildings with excelletnt displays of forestry, the CCC, and a nearby USA camp. There are several older buildings some open and some ‘closed’. The closed buildings were closed because of safety reasons. IF you want a short walk, there is a trail with some desciptions of the facilities you can take. There were a couple of locomotives. The best of them is being restored and under cover. IF you time it right, you might catch a ride on the M4, a doodlebug. They have a collection of older trucks, tractors, small cranes used to cut timber. I would have to say that with the LA environment, visit the mill sooner than later. As I understand it the mill is also suppose to be haunted. I walked around in the late evening and never saw or heard anything Lots to see, lots to do. Lots to walk through and imagine seeing the wood that was cut there was used for WWII landing craft. IF you have small children, keep an eye on them. There are a lot of places and things they can get into where they can get hurt.
Abner S — Google review
This is a combination of an Army camp and a Mill. General Bradley is noted as the only "leg" to command the 82nd Airborne. He happened to simply be in command. General Ridgeway had the responsibility of planning, training and equipping the former 82nd Inf. Lots of photos bring back nostalgic times growing up in Massachusetts. The white scale used for weighing meat was something my great grandfather used.

Use to think of this as a wonderful place, spent a few days before Christmas there before my daughter passed from cancer. They had a special ride a train with santa. So when it came to booking our wedding there wasnt a second option. We paid in full and booked almost a year in advance. The morning of while we waiting for the bride to show up, they decided to have a high school band competition in the building next door. I talked with management who basically said the main office in Alexandria booked the bands. Weddings are booked by local management, nether really communicate. They offered to stop the bands for a break around the time we estimated the vows would be said. However we still had the start and dancing after drowned out with marching bands. Special day turned more stress and bad....

Alexandria Zoological Park

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Zoo with international-themed habitats for exotic wildlife & tours on a scale-model train.
I had an amazing time at this zoo with my family. The tortoises were so cute 😭 there were lots of animals but I feel like I missed a few of them. I didn’t see any otters but maybe they just weren’t out yet? I got there a little after they opened in the morning. But the tickets are a reasonable price, the staff was nice, the park had beautiful scenery, there were plenty of nice and clean bathrooms, a café where you can get drinks and good food, and plenty of seating!!
Taebear V — Google review
The zoo was nice and had a lot more animals than I expected. I'm not sure if it was because of the time we got there, but a lot of the larger animals were not out. Overall, there is a lot to look at, and we had a great time walking around and checking it out.
Andrea S — Google review
Amazing zoo! I love the immersion of this zoo compared to other zoos in the state. Also the enclosures are awesome and plenty big enough for all the animals.
Tyler I — Google review
I've been to a lot of different zoos including Brazil and Australia but I have to say this is up there with the one in Singapore. Every time I go I forget the path they do really good job of blending everything in and immersing you the animals all seem very laid back. The train ride is a must, it just sort of completes the trip.
Jaymes B — Google review
I haven’t been to this zoo in almost 30 years but just remembering the beautiful moments I shared with my Grandmother here, I decided to look up the recent photos. I can’t tell you how heartwarming it is to see you still have the koi, the flamingos, and the peacocks. I have some beautiful memories of your zoo and it looks exactly the same. I am so PROUD of you that the upkeep is phenomenal after all the years. When I visit back home, this absolutely will be a stop for me and my family. Thank you to all of your staff and management for taking care of these animals and providing a great facility for local residents to enjoy. <3

I come here every-time I visit my grandparents in pineville, great size for kids to walk around and a large variety of animals! $2.50 gets you a large cup of fish food and you can feed the koi they have! $3 for a train ride around the property, Gift shop isn’t too expensive either

Paragon Casino Resort

Casino
Casinos & Gambling
Traditional rooms in a glitzy casino resort with a concert arena, 2 pools & 8 bars/eateries.
We visit this place 2-3 times a year! The Paragon Casino has something for everyone of all ages. The rooms are reliably clean, the staff is always professional and kind. I have the best casino host Preston, he makes sure the red carpet is laid out for me and my family. Every morning we went for a walk through their beautiful park, we went to the movies as a family. We played bingo, and we did the virtual golf games. This place is a little off the beaten path, but we always enjoy our stay. It's worth the 5 hour drive.
Vanessa S — Google review
Rooms are clean but the bathroom area could use more attention. My commode didn’t smell the best. However I love their table games (blackjack)! Still gives you a fighting chance with the 2 decks! Plus they will feed you well. One of my favorite places to go
Marnell A — Google review
Attended the LSFMA conference there & had an awesome time. Didn't/don't gamble so can't vouch for the casino but the lunch they catered for the conference was some of the best brisket you'll find. Just attended the classes during the day & dinner somewhere in the resort each night with some reps with 1 of the sponsors. I parked my truck Wednesday when I arrived & never seen it again until time to leave Friday afternoon

My stay was great. It was my first time staying and I loved it. Beds and pillows were comfy. Room wasn't cleaned thoroughly but that's OK. I bought my backup cleaning supplies as always. Loved the big television. Ac worked great. Staff was caring and polite. Kids were making noise down the hallway but that stopped before I got to bed. Loved the alligators.Live it has a theater, gym, and pools. Machines were not loose but overall I enjoyed my ine day stay. I will be back soon. Birthday is creeping in and paragon will be my go 2 place. ❤️❤️

NO. The hotel here sucks. Outdated, dirty, and lousy janitorial service. We get in our room and there is no shampoo, or body wash and one bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth. Someone brought them up later, but that was unacceptable. Then we have to dispose of two large roaches running around the room. The breakfast buffet was a joke. $14 for the same breakfast you get at any chain hotel in the country. This hotel has zero customer service and are only in it for the money. It's trash and a huge waste of money.

stayed at the RV park in the first part of July for the" summer special" that they have running, which is $9.99 a night! but what they failed to tell you is there's" resort fees". And the manager at the RV park is the one that checked me in it was her first day back from vacation and she really didn't wanna be there but what she did was failed to tell me about the extra charges. Which is an additional seven dollars a night whether you use the pools or not you're $9.99 a night ends up being almost $20 with tax and everything everything which still is not bad but they should tell you that when you're checking in with your credit card!!! something I was planning on paying a little almost $30 for for three nights ended up being almost $60 for three nights

It's a fun and clean place! Don't bother if you like anything other than video poker and slots lol. Hotel has alligators 😁

Got in the hot tub and it was cold! Shower in our room was leaking and the shower door kept sliding back open! Body wash container which let me say looks like a nice brand and does smell great was empty! This is not the same paragon it was 10 years ago! It has def gone way down! And prices just keep going up! The buffet food was either over fried or cold I normally don’t leave negative reviews but for the money I’m spending here I expected more!

Kent Plantation House

Historical place museum
Sights & Landmarks
French-colonial plantation house built in 1796, featuring guided tours & grounds with outbuildings.
We had an amazing time at the camp plantation house. The tour guide for the house was amazing she needs so much detail and history. The house has been amazingly preserved. The Furnishing is mostly original to the house. The grounds are not all original to the plantation. But each outbuilding serves a purpose and tell us a little bit of History. I was fascinated with each of the outbuildings and the history that go went along with them
Randy B — Google review
Great place to tour, and the tour guide was supper nice and fun to talk to. They have the incorrect time for their tours on the website. When we got there, they ended up doing a tour just for us, which was so nice.
Andrea S — Google review
I loved the tour guides! They were knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. This was my first plantation tour and won't be my last. I loved the little gift shop as well. Great preserved artifacts. Thank you ladies! As an American descendant of slaves I feel that it's important to learn of our history.
Andie A — Google review
My husband and I were traveling through Alexandria, and decided to visit Kent House. Our guides were fun, friendly, and knowledgeable. I saw a few things here that I have not seen before. The house had quite a few original furnishings, pictures, and documents. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and would definitely recommend.
Brandy H — Google review
I visited this plantation with my family because I was interested in learning about the history of plantations. After our experience, I have mixed feelings about it because the first tour guide was very informative and respectful in presenting the information. The second tour guide had her own biased views which didn't fit within a professional setting. While visiting these sites provide a learning experience, including the showcasing of the realities of slavery, I believe it's important to approach these visits thoughtfully. I want to clarify that learning about this topic does not make slavery acceptable, rather it should encourage awareness and reflection.
Alba L — Google review
It was such a good experience, the ladies were so nice, showing us around, giving us all the details about the plantation, and nice little gift shop to bring a souvenir back to texas.
Kayla M — Google review
We visited this plantation as a family. We were visiting out of town and decided to take the kids to this tour. The tour guide was very informative and he gave us very detailed description of the owners house. I think less time was spent on the slave quarters. They could have talked more about the hardships that the slaves went through but that part was skipped..

Kent house is always a great place to visit with all the historic buildings and especially on sugar days. Grew up by this plantation and remember when it was being renovated. Need to visit.

Marksville State Historic Site

Temporarily Closed
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Transporting myself back to the days when the Ancient Mounds Trail Museum in Marksville, Louisiana, was in full swing was a journey through time and culture. The exhibits showcasing the unearthed pottery from the Indian burial mounds, dating back to 100 BC - 400 AD, were a mesmerizing window into the past. It's disheartening to learn that the site is now closed, especially considering the wealth of historical treasures it once housed. The displays of pottery added an extra layer of connection to the lives of those who lived in that era. I find myself yearning for the days when the museum's doors were open, allowing the public to marvel at the tangible remnants of our heritage. Reopening the site to the public, perhaps with a walking path integrated around the Marksville Mounds, would not only revive the historical charm but also offer a delightful experience for visitors. Picture strolling through the serene beauty of Louisiana nature, absorbing the history embedded in the mounds, and perhaps even promoting a healthier lifestyle for those who enjoy walking. In conclusion, the nostalgia of the Ancient Mounds Trail Museum lingers, and the prospect of reopening it to the public, coupled with a walking path, holds the promise of a five-star attraction. Let's bring back this historical gem, allowing both history enthusiasts and nature-loving individuals to relish the unique blend of our past and the beauty of Marksville. 🏺🌳 #MarksvilleHeritage #WalkingPathRevival #HistoricalJourney

This historic landmark should be properly cared for and reopened to the public. The site has so much promise… it just needs a little TLC.
Trent G — Google review
Mr. Jennings, the director, gave us a personal tour of the museum and a personal outdoor description of the site. This is a very important archeological site for Louisiana and the operation is totally underfunded and needs new AV and print collateral. We were in Alexandria and drove over for the afternoon. We didn't see a single directional sign for the site and our GPS took us through an urban residential area to get there. The walking tour was excellent but signs and the stops along the circuit need improvement to tell the important story of the Hopewells in mid America.
Talbot W — Google review
I went there today around 12 PM. The gate was closed, even though the hours are listed as being open during that time. Tried calling multiple times, no answer. We came back an hour later to see if they were just on a lunch break or something, but the gate was still closed. We tried calling again and again but no one ever picked up. So we drove 3 hours to see nothing.

My kids always have so much fun at the treehouse. There’s so many different things for them to learn from painting to all the different things they have set up like grocery stores and banks, and the train set up. They have their is absolutely cool it’s a good place to take your family for your kids to learn and just enjoy time as a family. This place is a blessing to the community.

A lot of the activities were not in working order. I went with my grandson for a field trip and was very disappointed. I would not pay to take my child there. Hopefully, they are able to get the funds needed to make it a functional and educational place for children.

This place is MASSIVE. Although in a shady rundown area geographically, the play place makes up for it. Lots and lots of things for kids to do without getting in each others way. Love how everything is sectioned off. Love that there’s a quiet room for infants. I really wish they could transport this to a safer location, location is the only reason I don’t go there often.

I needed a place to bring my kids for some summertime fun after sitting at home bored all week. I just knew this place was going to be packed on a Saturday. It was not and I am still in disbelief. It was so much fun. My kids ages 3,6 and 10 played for 3 hours and cried when I said it's time to go. Very relaxed and safe environment to!

We brought our toddler here today just to get out of the house and when we entered it seemed like a cool little place for kids but when we got to the toddler section there was rat feces all over the chairs, floor, and toys. You could hear the rats in the ceiling. When I told the man at the front desk he didn’t seem to concerned about it.

We visited with the owner, Susan, while shopping the store and had the most wonderful visit! Her employee was a awesome to visit with as well! They will be shipping items home for us since we're on an RV trip and didn't want the goodies getting unnecessarily hot on the rest of our trip. A must stop when you're in the area!

I made a special trip to visit the Little Eva Pecan House store. The inviting and fun sign caught my attention. Inside, the store was clean and filled with a variety of items including art, jewelry, books, and crafts. While taking photographs to share with others who might be interested in the store, an employee behind the counter pointed to a sign above her indicating that no photography or video was allowed. The employee explained that the owners do not like it. I hadn't noticed the sign until it was pointed out, as it was not prominently displayed. As a reviewer and marketer, I believe such a policy should be clearly posted at the entrance so customers are aware before entering. I find it puzzling why a store would not want its merchandise shared or showcased, but I respect their right to enforce such a rule. I strive to review and share my experiences at various places on Google Maps, often including photos or videos. After being informed of the no-photography policy, I felt uncomfortable and quietly left to continue on to my next destination. NOTE: The photographs of the store's interior that I'm sharing with my review were taken before I was informed about the no-photography policy.

Gone Wild Safari

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Petting zoo with exotic species in a parklike setting, with general admission & party packages.
My family and I loved it here. Other than the entrance going into the safari ( almost lost a tire) it was a very good experience for my children.
Crystal G — Google review
This was a fun place to take the kiddos. They enjoyed the drive through safari part having the animals come to the car and being able to feed them and pet some. After we walked to the other area they pet the baby zebra and highland calf. They got to feed the giraffe and pet it. The staff was very friendly and informative.
Kara M — Google review
Nice but not all I thought it would be. And there's a concessions booth that's been closed apparently for quite a while. If you're in the area... I'd take the kids but I drove 2 hrs to get there - one time trip for me.
Blanca N — Google review
Went there yesterday with my family, a birthday treat. It was a wonderful day! The animals were fantastic! Should you readers be carnivores, this experience may change how you think about nutrition! The animals seemed to know and recognize that the humans glaring at them, had treats for them! They're smart and quite friendly! They all approached, knowing they would be fed! The ostriches walked right up to the window with beaks wide open and the same for the bulls! Should we be eating things that are that smart?! Something to be considered next thanksgiving!😀 One small detail; All tours now must be on the bus and personal vehicles are no longer allowed on the route. Enjoy!
Rebekah B — Google review
I went there looking for bracelets only but they only had one type so that was a little disappointing. The animals are great to check out tho. That's the only place I've ever seen a Zorris.
Stacie — Google review
It’s an adventure. Get up close and personal with the animals. Watch out for the camels. They want the food and they will get it. They will stick there entire head and neck in your vehicle to reach it. If you don’t mind a little camels slobber, not a problem. The giraffes are very friendly.
John B — Google review
I went on 11/05/23 around 2:30 P.M., and it was the most fun and exciting zoo experience ever! The camels are very aggressive...lol There was a camel that literally took a cup of feed from the floor of the truck by my feet. Lol I was a little terrified, but my reaction did not freak it out at all...it had a mission, and it took the cup without spilling any of the feed. Lol!!! You will enjoy yourself here. I intend to go again. It is very affordable, too. I believe $8.00 or so per person and $4.00 for the cups of feed.
University A — Google review
Small but it's a fun place to visit. Love the people who work here and care for the animals. Drive through carefully and hold onto your cups tightly!😂 The camels will try to climb into the car and steal the food pellets🤔😉🤪😄

Frogmore Cotton Plantation & Gins

This is a fantastic historical site and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and kind. It's been a very, very long time since I visited a place where I learned so much and genuinely wanted to stay longer. If you're at all interested in the history of the area or the economy of cotton and slavery, it's a must.
Willem B — Google review
This was definitely worth the visit. Lynn, the tour guide did an outstanding job. We learned so much and had a lot of fun! The price for tickets is reasonable. The lady that sold us the tickets in the store area was super friendly and helpful. I wish we had more time to visit.
JanetandEd S — Google review
A vital historical stop on a music-history tour. The 19th-century cotton plantation covers some 1,800 acres, and through our friendly, knowledgeable tour guides got a close-up view of what that life during that time was like. The church setting featured lovely singing, the cotton fields were beautiful and hot (random note: don't step on the fire ant hills), and the old cotton gins have been meticulously preserved (and the new technologically superior ones are quite impressive). We saw slave quarters and reveled in the stories of plantation life.
Don Z — Google review
The tour guide, Lynn, & the store clerk, Carolyn, are very nice & knowledgeable. The store & the setting are picture perfect! I recommend a visit, but you may want to call ahead to give them details: your eta, what is of greatest interest to you, & how much time you'll have. The "Then & Now" tour is listed on the website as 1.5 hours, but it could take way longer. I set aside two hours, hoping to tour the old cotton gin, watch the film on modern cotton ginning methods, & drive to the new facility. During our two hours, we browsed around the mercantile until the tour guide was available, toured the old cotton gin (fabulous!) & watched an historical film (30 minutes) detailing the history of the area & past/present owners. After the film, we had to leave & the group walked to the outbuildings in the field. I really don't know when the "Now" part of the tour was going to start. The tour guide offered a sincere apology & complimentary future tour, but we won't be going back in the area. Glad that we toured the cotton gin (such a treasure!), but the historical film & the walk to the outbuildings should be last, optional for those with additional time.

I didn't know what to expect since we've Travelers too many plantations over the years. This is a working plantation and I learned so much about the cotton industry and how it was the lifeblood of the Natchez economy. It's small, but it packs a massive punch. Master of ceremonies Shaun Davis is a music lifer who deftly told the stories around this Ferriday, LA gem. Hometown of cousins Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, Jimmy Lee Swaggart, the museum also features various artifacts of everyone from Fats Domino and James Burton to Pete Fountain, Elvis, Clarence "Frogman" Henry, Percy Sledge, Aaron Neville, Irma Thomas, and Tony Joe White of "Polk Salad Annie" fame. A former post office is a proper monument of where so much of our musical melting pot came from.
