Cedar Creek Winery is a renowned, family-owned winery located in a historic woolen mill dating back to 1864. This award-winning establishment offers an impressive variety of wines, from delicate whites to robust reds, including seasonal favorites like Strawberry and Christmas Blush. Situated at the edge of Cedar Creek in Cedarburg, this winery is steeped in history and offers visitors the chance to explore its charming surroundings.
Great place to take a tour and get a flight that matches your taste preference. I like the sweets, because sometimes I'm lacking sweetness. Thank you, Gina, for taking care of me. The wine was excellent, and I loved sitting outside in the cool October air. It's been about 6 years since my last visit here, and hopefully won't be 6 years until my next time.
Jiri A — Google review
The wine is amazing! All of the staff are so nice and helpful. Definite stop when you're in town.
Larry D — Google review
Cold day. No chairs inside by the tasting area. How insane is that. Drove 25 miles for nothing. When I said I had spinal arthritis, they offered to bring one out. Make sure you like to stand if you come here.
Cheryl C — Google review
We used to live nearby and would often bring visitors to this winery for tours and tastings, but I hadn’t been back in years. My taste in wine has definitely evolved over the years, so I wasn’t sure I would still like what’s sold here, but stopped in for nostalgia’s sake. Not only is this just as charming as I remembered, the wine is still delightful. The strawberry wine was of course jammy and fruity, but I didn’t find it overly sweet, just crisp and refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day. The employee was busy, but friendly and very helpful, and I enjoyed wandering around the grounds and admiring the scenery, lovely place.
Kristin D — Google review
I recently visited Cedar Creek Winery and had a really nice time and experience tasting their semi-sweet wines (I'm more of semi-sweet or sweet wine type of guy). The wine steward was very friendly and knowledgeable, making the tasting both informative and enjoyable. The winery itself is a great place to relax and unwind, with a beautiful atmosphere. Definitely check it out and be sure to say hi to the friendly folks running the tasting!
Yordenis D — Google review
Loved the atmosphere of the winery. A fun place to visit with little shops nearby. The wine was very good. We liked the sweet flight. The Gewurztraminer and the Sweet Port were our favorites.
Deb E — Google review
I went to a wine tasting at Cedar Creek and enjoyed the selection of wines - even picked up a wine for the holidays. But I have to give this winery one star for the coldness and unfriendliness of the employee who works in the wine shop area. She was rude and completely bothered at the cash register. I was blown away by the attitude. Customer service is very important at a business - I will not be coming back after this negative experience.
Breanne G — Google review
Popped in for a tasting today and was pleasantly surprised! I was a little familiar with the brand already having picked up a bottle at Total Wine from them. I really enjoyed my experience. The woman who helped me (so sorry I didn’t get the name!) was so kind and explained everything they had available that day for sampling. I will say most of the wines are on the sweet side but I still enjoyed them despite being a dry red gal myself. The atmosphere is lovely (as is all of Downtown Cedarburg). I would recommend stopping by if you’re in the area

Cool history of the bridge and a beautiful park. It was really cold yesterday, so we didn't explore, but we'll be back to explore the area.
Ken Z — Google review
Well worth the visit! There’s graffiti from 1922 that I saw & I bet there’s older. The toilets are immaculate & there’s free barbecues in the surrounding park area, you just need Charcoal & a lighter.
ADAM O — Google review
Appreciated that they attempt to preserve this rare piece of Americana. The enjoyment was ruined by vandalism and graffiti. Wish people would be more respectful.
T. K — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous park. Great place to visit and see the historical covered bridge.
Tim K — Google review
You can walk through the bridge. It's beautiful. There is a nice park along the river. Great place to take pictures.
Stephanie S — Google review
To some it's "just" a covered bridge. To me, it is history and memories of a simpler time. I routed my trip to stop here and see this. Worth every mile on the road.
Christopher T — Google review
The bridge is easily accessible. You can see the bridge which is right off the road, or park further inside the park and amble back over a foot bridge and step inside the wooden structure. Sadly, there's a lot of personal graffiti but it partially illustrates the age of the building. And while I don't agree with tagging something old, there were many sweet messages from years past. We visited during winter while the river was frozen and could walk under. Cross country skiers passed obviously enjoy that route too.
Amethyst B — Google review
Was a good day, nice to see someone taking care of the bridge and the park it's in.

Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary LLC

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Gravel roads connect natural displays of over 400 local & exotic animals across 100 acres.
This is a zoo that you can go to and not leave feeling like “oh those poor animals”. The enclosures are huge and you feel like you’re seeing the animals in their natural environment. It’s really reasonably priced and they don’t gouge you for extras. Halfway through the circuit there’s a playground you can get drinks and water is one dollar and soda pop is two dollars. Everybody gets a free ice cream at the end. The entire circuit is about 3 miles so if you’re walking, take your time.
Guy H — Google review
We thought this was an absolutely amazing family friendly place.... Gorgeous, especially in the Fall. Families could easily spend three to four hours here. There is a petting zoo at the end of the trails, as well as a Park area for the kids to play. My husband and I hiked along the trails and it took us 2 hours to see all the animals. For those who cannot walk the trails, you can rent a golf cart. At the end of your visit, as you walk through the visitor center, you can pick up a free cup of ice cream! 🍨
Carter-Lori A — Google review
We took the golf cart option, which was huge benefit for old folks with bad knees. Most animals can be seen from cart path and easy to walk up closer. Well laid out and well marked. It was a cold day so not sure if that had an effect. The best is at the end with the lions tigers and bears. Would wish the predators had more room to roam, they seemed slightly uncomfortable.
John M — Google review
Very nice family friendly Zoo with well kept facilities. Has a great variety of animals to see, and things for everyone to enjoy. We fed goats and played in the music and play areas within the Sanctuary. They also have golf carts, if you wish not to walk through the entire park. Definitely something worth checking out!
Jutengai O — Google review
This is one of the more interesting zoos I've seen. The animals do have a big place to roam, but it's very wooded with tall pines and much shade. The emus look very puzzling in such a background, but the numerous dear fit the bill. Also, the white tiger and her kittens were so cute! I'll probably come again, but the gold carts are a bit annoying.
Julia K — Google review
I absolutely LOVED this place. I had found it online and I decided I wanted to celebrate my 50th birthday with a visit. It's about a 4-5 hour drive to get there for us but I did not regret it! The zoo is a 4 mile area with lots of viewing of several animals. We rented a golf cart since I have some mobility issues and spent 2 hours and I took over 300 pictures. There were even a big set of field trips going on and we had no issues with viewing and having a blast. If you enjoy zoos this is a don't miss for sure. Best birthday EVER!!!
Ginny B — Google review
Such a unique zoo that isn’t flashy and is more geared toward adult audiences. Almost all the enclosures were big, spacious, and natural. Oftentimes several species coexisted in big spaces. We loved that there was reading material not only about the animals, but about the Native history, the plants we walked by, and there were several learning centers about certain topics. Less squished than most zoos and gave more of a sanctuary aesthetic. Will recommend and be back again!
Brianna V — Google review
This was the best zoo experience we've ever had. I recommend the golf cart for your 1st time, just so you can see how long of a wall it would be. My mobility if ok, and I would like to walk it, but not knowing the extent of the walk (terrain, elevation, etc), the golf cart was helpful. We may walk it next time. The animals actually looked content in their enclosures. They weren't "locked up" and "on display" as in other zoos. Don't bother going to the Racine zoo, it is pathetic, but that's a separate review... We highly recommend Shalom as a destination!

Lakeside Park

Park
Nature & Parks
Waterfront outdoor area with a quaint lighthouse, carousel & mini train ride, plus boat rentals.
Lakeside park has a fantastic playground and we spent hours there between the zipline, swings, slides, and net climbing tower. Very safe, multiple playgrounds for various ages, lots of swings, and the other families there were kind. No dogs allowed around the playground. There's a nice paved path and walking trail, which we enjoyed.
Ben K — Google review
Great park with beautiful landscaping and paths. There are many events in the park and the playground and splash pad are great for the kids. We love watching sunrises and sunsets over the lake here. It's especially great now that they added the walking bridge to get over to Lakeside West Park. You can walk or run quite a long ways now
Melanie C — Google review
The park has a great mix of playgrounds for all ages, making it easy for families with kids at different stages to all have fun. One of the most impressive updates recently was the addition of an all-access playground, designed so that children who use wheelchairs can fully participate. It’s thoughtful, inclusive, and something every community should have. One of my personal favorites is the zip line—even as an adult, it’s hard not to smile watching kids zoom across with joy (or sneaking in a turn myself). Whether you’re here for the playgrounds, a walk by the lake, or just to enjoy some fresh air, Lakeside Park continues to be a place where memories are made. Can’t recommend it enough.
Traci T — Google review
Came here to explore and stumbled on the Fondy food truck festival. Simply a ton of trucks! Hard to choose but finally decided on a Korean corn dog Besides that this is an excellent park which is a series of small islands connected by bridges. There is a marina and a lighthouse, great view of the lake. Playground and small amusement park for kids. It was extremely busy here due to the festival but this is a great park so I’m sure it’s always busy
Hank Z — Google review
We were only going to be in Fond Du Lac, WI for a day and found out it coinsided with one of their big summer festivals called Walleye Weekend! I grew up in South Dakota and I love walleye, so we went. What a beautiful park and huge! Located right on Lake Winnebago. Beautiful views! There was so much going on; fishing, boat displays, live bands, food tents, picnics, kids area, frisby area. Too much to list all but a really good time! Glad we went to this beautiful park!
Leigh M — Google review
Really nice park. Lots of family memories. Grandsons still remember the rides. Was happy 2 c that the train rides survived.
Dan B — Google review
Great park to visit for a picnic or walk on their trail (apprx 3 miles round trip but can shorten your walk if you like). Plenty of picnic areas, great views, playground.

The Paine Art Center & Gardens is a well-preserved historic estate in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, featuring a stunning mansion with European-style architecture and an impressive art collection. The estate also includes 20 meticulously maintained gardens that offer diverse landscapes and seasonal blooms. Visitors can explore the public art galleries showcasing changing exhibitions and attend special events held on the grounds. One of the current exhibits features ndwango, a unique form of bead art created by South African women.
The Nature of Light exhibit is great for families with kids of all ages (mine are teens and adults) and also a romantic date night! If you visit from 9 to 9:45pm there is a brief but entertaining light-dance duo performing. We bought the Ultimate package including the inside mansion portion which is lovely but you get a wonderful experience with the main outdoor tickets. I've attended twice (2023 and 2025) and it's definitely worth a repeat visit. The Paine has rotating exhibits and a magical Nutcracker program at Christmas. It's a gem in Oshkosh for art and entertainment.
Kim E — Google review
We went to the Nature of Light exhibit at the Paine Art Center. It was stunningly beautiful. The exhibit was interactive, so we were able to touch and turn parts of the exhibit. We felt a feeling of wonder, happiness and peace the whole time we were there. This was definitely worth the trip.
Julie O — Google review
I had such a wonderful time at The Nature of Light: Ultimate Experience. From the start, the ticketing process was seamless, and I really appreciated how they had staggered entry times to keep things from feeling crowded. The whole event had a great flow, and the experience felt both relaxing and immersive. One of my favorite touches was the warm drinks provided on a cool night, it was a perfect little comfort amidst the stunning light displays. The sculptures were absolutely breathtaking, and I loved the way they cast such beautiful shadows. It was incredible to see them in both the indoor and outdoor settings, with each one offering a unique perspective. There were so many magical moments, especially as the rain added to the atmosphere. The trees and sky sparkled with glittering lights, and the whole environment felt even more enchanting. Every corner had a little surprise, and it was easy to lose track of time while taking in all the beauty. I truly enjoyed every moment of this experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something special to enjoy with friends or family. A must-see event that combines art, nature, and light in the most magical way!
BrickandMortar H — Google review
The light show was beautiful. They were already beginning Christmas setup, which made it a bit odd. The house is quite large, the grounds a bit small for the house's size, but still lovely. The staff were very helpful and nice.
Charmain S — Google review
We visited the Paine art center for a breakfast. The architecture is absolutely stunning! I especially loved the intricate wooden carving on doors, stairs, and moldings. The garden is beautiful and well manicured with a feeling of being in someone's secret garden. I highly recommend this beautiful venue with fascinating history!
Esther Z — Google review
The Nature of Light exhibit was quite remarkable, in terms of creativity and variety. It began in the main floor of the mansion, then about ninety percent of the exhibit was outside. Strobes through trees, geographic sculptures, manicured gardens. A short performance dance set. Lots of opportunity to sit and take this all in. Highly recommend
Pete J — Google review
We went for the light in the garden experience, run do not walk it is an amazing night. We did the first time slot at 820, so very little waiting and crowds. We got so many amazing pictures. You can go as long as you want. Can not wait for our next visit
Danielle N — Google review
What a pleasure to tour the Paine Art 🖼️ Center and Gardens with lots of other moms and families on this gorgeous day! ☀️ I have always loved the Paine and today was extra fabulous with free admission! We enjoyed the gardens and touring the mansion. Love to hear that they’ve partnered with some UWO classes, giving those students a chance to learn history of the Paine family, their home and some history of Oshkosh industry as well. I commend the Paine for extending free admission to all on Mother’s Day. Truly a gift 💝 to the community. 🌷🌼🌸🌺🪻💐

The EAA Aviation Museum, located in Oshkosh, is a captivating destination for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs. Established by a small group of aviation enthusiasts in the 1950s, the museum has evolved into a remarkable collection featuring over 200 historic airplanes and helicopters, along with more than 20,000 aviation artifacts. Visitors can explore immersive exhibits that showcase the rich history of civilian and military aviation.
It's SO Big! So much to see and learn we didn't even do it all! I will say I had read and been told it was free to get in here, It is not so heads up it's $15 for adults and 3-17 is $12. We really enjoyed the interactive Area and the aircrafts you could get into!
Karla T — Google review
Nice museum that showcases many aspects of aviation! They have a fun area for kids inside as well, I will say the simulators offered need to be maintained better only 2-8 were in working order. Lastly my group could not find a bathroom in the top of the museum once you enter. ( this was a problem for some members of my group)
Tyler H — Google review
Wow! You can eat off the floor in this place. This event has a price to pay at the door, but that quickly becomes irrelevant after you start looking around in here. It is the best museum I’ve been to to date. Oshkosh turns upside down during their “Air Show”every year the end of July. I’ll go to that someday. I went outside to see the hangers out back and found some of the plane owner’s vehicles out there. Those were as cool as the airplanes were back there. You see old cars all the time, but I’ve never seen an old delivery truck. That made my day. I could’ve and should’ve flown the Blue and Yellow biplane while I was there because the line was short at the time. Oooops, I’ll get that one done the next time I’m here. I had the best of times here and I’m really glad that I went here. Put this on your must do list. Enjoy…

*** FREE AIRPLANE RIDES FOR KIDS!!! If that doesn't get your attention I don't know what will. On weekends they run a Young Eagles program which kids ages 8-17 are able to get a 10-15 minute plane ride in which they are even given the chance to take the controls. There is no extra cost just the cost of the museum which is extremely reasonable. $37 gets the family in and includes 2 adults and up to five kids. On top of that amazing experience the museum has numerous other kid related things through our it and everything for the aviation enthusiast. From all sorts of planes for early in flight through about the early 70's. Tons of history, exhibits, models, etc. Plan at least 3-4 hours to see and do everything. Weekend we went was not crowded at all. Can't recommend this place high enough.

Different than other aviation museums we have been too. This is mostly experimental aircraft. There was a lot of interesting stuff to see however. This is a large museum and it's well put together. Prepare to spend at least two to three hours. Recommended.

First, I love airplanes! So this is a great place to explore. Interesting historical review of Experimental aircraft. And aviation history in general. Really need exhibits. Lots of great exhibits for kids to explore aviation.

EAA Aviation Museum is very nice place to visit with family. Lots of Hangars to explore. Fascinating facts about US Airforce. $37 Family pass for 2 adults and 2 kids. Plenty of parking available. Hope you enjoy. Thanks

An absolutely amazing museum for aviation enthusiasts and history enthusiasts alike. So much planes in here and stuff to learn. You could spend an entire day in here. Its also a very nice atmosphere. The restrooms are clean and there are water fountains located with delicious water incase youre thirsty. I came here with my older brother and his wife in july for the 2025 oshkosh airventure which was incredible. I highly recommend visiting this museum while you are in the area, its really worth it. There are also some interactive exhibits such as air pressure and gyro force. Even if you know nothing about aviation it is still a cool place for anyone who wants to learn.

This large building, attached to a performing arts center, holds many cars built from factories here in Wisconsin. Pretty cool. There was a luxurious "Kissel" brand made in Hartford that was owned by many famous people. There are also many recent past models on display here also. In the back is also a working steam train that goes out on tour once or twice a year.
Mike P — Google review
Interesting museum focusing on vehicles manufactured in the area, including Kissel and Nash. The collection includes a variety of other rare vehicles, which are not often seen at car shows or in other museums. Additional exhibits showcase trains, local auto racers, and automotive memorabilia such as gas pumps, tools, and signage. Definitely worth the stop!
Christine H — Google review
What an incredible collection!! They have the largest collection of Kissel cars on public display, a 1-of-1 “Badger” automobile, a 1902 rambler and a 1913 Metz! The docent was very friendly and informative. Highly recommend! 😁
Mark H — Google review
What a cool museum! We were in the area and my wife found this and we decided to go check it out. Top quality vintage vehicles. We were so floored. So many one of a kind cars and about half of them were donated to the museum and many more on loan to the museum. I want to go back again and bring my dad. These are cars he grew up with, some I did as well, and I know he'll really enjoy this. My youngest son is a car guy and he'll be going with us. 3 generations to check out this cool museum. What a great memory will be had. This is a must see when in the area.

Planes, trains, and automobiles can be found at this fantastic hidden gem! Ok, it's mostly cars and trucks, but they do technically have a little bit of the trains & planes too! The kiddos loved walking through (3 y/o & baby). The old firetrucks were a hit, as was the train (both the model train when you enter as well as the large engine in the back). The volunteers are passionate about the museum as well - they have a lot of good history to share if you're interested. We will be coming back again when they're older!

What a wonderful little (big) museum! I did not expect all that was in there. Beautiful cars and the history of the Kissler car was very interesting. Worth the stop to come and see.

Great car museum with lots of stuff to see. Definitely worth the drive from Milwaukee when we were in town.
Zach B — Google review
Pretty interesting place even if you aren't a car fan. It is nice and clean but does have that car shop smell. I walked out a bit nauseous but that is not the fault of the museum! I loved that each car had a sign about it and some had cool stories attached! Very neat to see how the auto world has evolved and changed!

Great place to visit with the kids. There are lots of animals to see and fun playgrounds. Pet some bunnies, feed some goats, take a hayride - there's lots to keep the kids occupied. Staff are incredibly friendly. There are tons of picnic tables in the shade, so it's great to make it a picnic outing. Plenty of free parking. Well worth a visit if you have small children.

Attended field trip here today with my daughters kindergarten class! The staff were friendly & helpful. The animals were treated humanely & well taken care of & clean! Animals to pet ranged from baby goats to adult goats, baby kittens, duck, geese, turkeys, pony rides & horse stables. Great field for pumpkin hunting! Recommend wearing boots & long sleeves & long pants, lots of burrs and muddy trails to hike & search through! Very family friendly and playgrounds & unique homemade trains & handwashing trough stations & the cutest horse swings made from tires!!! This place was great! Pack water & a snack depending on how long you plan to stay, they have picnic tables too!

This place is absolutely amazing for a full day of fun! There are so many activities and chances to interact with a wide variety of animals including horses, ponies, roosters, bunnies, cats, llamas, peacocks, pigs, cows, oxen, and many more. The rides are fantastic and add to the excitement. What’s great is that you can bring your own food and enjoy a picnic while soaking in the lively atmosphere. It’s perfect for families, kids, and anyone who loves animals and outdoor fun. We’ll definitely be coming back. A must-visit spot for the summer!

We went here on a 1st grade school field trip recently, there is a lot to do. Our personal favorite was the kitten house. but there were several play grounds and it was an absolute blast. the animals you can pet are all very friendly, and the others are super curious. My son has been begging to go back and he is normally uninterested in animals. Awesome place to bring kids. Bring a cooler and have a picnic under a tree or at a table. plenty of places to wash your hands. The pony ride and hay ride are just long enough. You can feed and brush some of the farm animals and the kids really enjoyed that. Bring quarters!

Came here by myself. So much to see and do! Very well kept and CLEAN! I had a great time! Hayride and kittens were my favorites. Check GROUPON and save money on your tickets.

I love this place. I've gone a few times now since it's a class field trip for my kids. There's a lot to see that kids and even adults will enjoy. I love the little kitten Barn. But there's also so many other things
Andrea S — Google review
We has so much fun walking around at our own pace and visiting each animal enclosure. Feeding certain animals (bring quarters for the machines) and brushing the donkeys! Some of the animals you can even enter the enclosure to pet and encounter which is so much fun for my children. A favorite among I feel like the whole farm is the kitten barn there's almost always a small line to wait but the staff is patient and understanding, the kittens are of course ADORABLE and given breaks in between families so they aren't over worked. We also went on the tractor ride into the corn field and my children did many of the other activities, plenty to do so don't sell yourself short on time. But do bring allergy medication just incase, lots of bees.
Sara K — Google review
So many activities!!! So many animals!!! We fed animals, we pet animals, we viewed animals. Perfect for a toddler play date or family get together. Reasonably priced. I didn’t see any food available for purchase but plenty of picnic tables for snacks from home. Bathrooms with running water were available and hand sanitizer at feeding stations.

A beautiful place for a hike with the dog. The trails are not too challenging and there seems to be plenty of parking. The bathroom was locked due to the shutdown when we were there. Nice place, we'll be back.

The Horicon National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center is a great place to start your visit. The visitor center is just one stop along the way to a lifetime of adventures in the Horicon Marsh. The visitor center is located on the south side of the marsh and offers an interactive, educational experience for all ages. The visitor center offers opportunities for visitors to watch and learn about the birds and wildlife that inhabit the marsh and even spot some of the waterfowl that migrate through the marsh each year. Enjoy your visit!

My friend and I spent the day roaming around parts of Wisconsin looking for cute vineyards, and this was by far our absolute favorite! The staff at Vines & Rushes were so friendly and welcoming. I went home with a bottle of course, and loved hearing the history behind the property. If you’re like us, and looking for the perfect cheese and wine spot… THIS IS IT!
Marcie W — Google review
Vines and Rushes is truly an outstanding winery and experience! Nicole made our visit extra special and went above and beyond, and I think we’ll always remember it because of her. We even forgot 2 bottles at the shop and she drove down and found us at the bar we were watching the game at to get them to us!! I was tasked with getting wine for my sisters wedding this summer, and specifically chose vines and rushes as it’s considered the best winery in Wisconsin - it did not disappoint. Even my French partner agreed the wine was SO good! We tried a huge selection and all of them were incredibly well made. We got all our wine and even flew a half a case home with us. Great wine, great story, and great people!
Kendyl P — Google review
Beautiful winery with a great selection of wine- and the food was excellent as well! We sampled 5 wines for $5 and ended up buying 2 bottles to take home. The brick oven pizza was incredible! Very friendly staff- they were helpful and attentive.

We had driven past Vines and Rushes several times and finally had a chance to stop there. We were there on a weekday afternoon so it was not very busy. The facility is very impressive. We enjoyed a wine tasting and then purchased a glass of wine and one of their employees spent about 30 minutes giving us a tour of the winemaking operation. Nicole was very knowledgeable and helpful and obviously enthusiastic about the business. We definitely will be coming back here for some woodfired pizza some evening. They have taken this beyond just a place to stop and buy some wine, it is a destination type of place now! Stop here, you will not be disappointed!
David J — Google review
This was an accidental GEM!! Flew into Milwaukee and driving to Osh Kosh we had the pleasure to pop in for a spot of wine tasting. Friendly staff who gave us great history and explanation of the wines. Discovering we were from out of town, they informed us that they SHIP!! 10 days after leaving we received our box of wine. The location is spacious with outdoor seating and views of the vineyards. And while they only grow 4 type of grapes here, their wines are blended with grapes ONLY grown in Wisconsin. The building is absolutely ginormous. Catering to happy hour, girls night, and date nights. Wood fire pizza oven and bar on one side and plenty of additional seating on the other side. This would be a great location to host a baby or bridal shower, company lunch or family get together. Live music most weeks and you’d better not leave without perusing the store for knick knacks and snacks. If I ever find myself in these parts again, Vines & Rushes is a YES for me.

Very relaxing, indoor and outdoor seating, great hummus plate and pizza, incredible staff, dog friendly.
Walt H — Google review
LOVE the pizza. They were busy when we came, with a lot of orders ahead of us but we got our pizza without too bad a wait given the volume of food orders. All of the people there were very friendly and accommodating. Only thing I would suggest is a way to make the pizza crust firmer, in the middle. Toward the edge it was perfect. Overall flavor was excellent.

This sprawling historic site & garden re-creates life & work on a late 19th-century farmstead.
Fun historical mini city. I appreciated the brewery and tap room at the entrance. There are trams that take you to the different areas and lots of little hiking trails to be able to wander around. There are historical guides and interpreters that explain about the different farms and buildings. You could easily spend the whole day here. I brought a water bottle but they have a few buildings that sell food and beverages.

Living history at its best! We visited on a beautiful summer day and spent almost the whole day there. So many things to see. We love the Crossroads Village, the farm demos, animals, and the Scandinavian homesteads. My 5 year old loved learning how to make bread and how to wash clothes the “old fashioned” way. The trams taking you to each section is a huge plus! We also enjoyed lunch at the Caldwell Food Hall and ice cream at the creamery. A great way to learn about Wisconsin history!

We went to Old World Wisconsin for their October Homeschool day. It was great! Highly recommend! Lots to see and do. The kids enjoyed all the activities, and feeling like you steped back in time to the 1800s. We saw the Blacksmith shop where the blacksmith was making an S hook and the kids got to learn about the anvil & horn, they enjoyed ice cream at the Creamery, in the Finnish village they made homemade butter, learned how boots were mended, had a yummy drink at the Four Mile House, learned how to make rope, the General Store docent showed us how they grade eggs, learned how they washed laundry back in the 1800's and so many other things. Huge place so remember to bring good walking shoes and water. They do have many shuttles if you choose not to walk. The Creamery building does have some food. PB&J, popcorn, premade salads and some other sandwiches. Great gift shop with lots of books, toys for the kids, candy, Holiday items and clean bathrooms. Just remember to get your tickets in advance. Our Homeschool event did sell out. We can't wait to go back again!

Old world Wisconsin is such an awesome place with so much history so much to see and do and the workers (actors? Performers?)are great at playing their roles very kind and very nice always greeting with a smile and some great historical facts about the houses/buildings that are on location every single one of them such great people ,I've been twice now but plan on returning its so good and there is always something new to find one day isn't enough to see everything the place has to offer ,I believe they just added a tavern and are working on doing something to the main entrance. They sell souvenirs and offer food and drinks ice cream and more they also have tokens you can use on one of the multiple themed shops, the place is fairly big so they have a "tram" service for free that stops on every interest point in the park it gets full fast fyi but it's very convenient, they have some hiking trails too, you could walk the whole place no problem if you want to. Great experience it's a must if you're a history buff or just want to experience a little bit of history heck even just to walk around for a bit this place is awesome 😎👍🏽 highly recommended.

Had a great time with my child for the day! Beautiful grounds, engaging experiences with the staff, and easy on and off tram to get around. Plenty of bathrooms around the entire property. Plan to stay a while, pack snacks and/or lunch, and see it all.

We met some of our grandkids there and really enjoyed. The tram system between areas worked really well. The different areas were interesting, especially the docents. They each had interesting knowledge to share about their area of interest. The live examples of blacksmithing, teaching and brewing were great.

Great day exploring Old World Wisconsin! Very accessible living museum with lots to see and do. We were able to walk a great deal, then to ride the free trams when we wanted. The OWW team was fabulous - friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable about the buildings and crafts they were demonstrating. We saw a lot, but want to go back for more!

The perfect place to visit in the fall from u-pick apples to free wine tasting to free tractor rides to live music to hot apple cider donuts! My friend and I visited on a Saturday morning. Parking is free and in a grass lot. There's a green space with picnic tables, lawn and table games, live music, food trucks, wine tasting, coffee truck, apple cider donuts, and a gift shop. The wine was interesting as it was made from a variety of apples and one was even made from blueberries. As other reviews mention, the apple cider donuts are delicious! They sell them in minimum 1/2 dozen quantities and do take credit card payment. The apple picking and tractor ride are across the street and they have a worker stationed to help you cross the street. It was fun to go through the orchard on the tractor and see all their different varieties of apples. The only thing we would have preferred was if they allowed the sale of single apples. As we were from out of town, we would have loved to buy one or two apples but their gift shop only sold in several pound bags.
Michelle B — Google review
First time here. A friend told us about it, so we decided to drop in and check it out. It’s a charming spot, surrounded by beautiful fields of apple trees, heavy with this year’s crop. We spent most of our time browsing the gift shop and bakery. From the “Happy Camper” coffee trailer out front, we grabbed hot beverages along with a couple of delicious bakery items — a pumpkin cream muffin and a pumpkin scone. We took these to the enclosed patio out front and enjoyed them while listening to a musician playing guitar and singing. It made for a lovely afternoon. I would definitely return, and next time I’d make sure to try the wine tasting.

What a fantastic place to stop by and enjoy all that they have to offer. We met family there on a Sunday for some shopping, live music, and fun for the kids. We ended up picking pumpkins, apples, and buying apple cider and apple jam before we left. The band was fantastic, and the the apple cider donuts were to die for. We had a fantastic time there and all agreed to return again in the future.

Tried this place over the weekend. Stuff we liked and didn’t like. It’s a pretty simple orchard which is nice. You don’t have to pay per person like some other orchards. However, we paid the extra money to pick the honey crisp apples and they are not good. They are almost flavorless. They don’t taste like honey crisp and were definitely not worth paying more money for them. We wish we would have just picked the other varieties. We probably won’t be back here.

We went just for the apple cider donuts on our way from eagle, WI to lake Geneva. I wish we’d come for lunch but we arrived ten minutes before they closed. The donuts were easy to find, sold separately at a little kiosk outside by the half or dozen. They were worth stopping if only for the donuts! Warm and fresh even though they were about to close. Small sized so easy to sneak one in before dinner or have a couple. Light and fluffy with a small sprinkling of sugar. Not greasy, not rich, not too sweet. Utter fall perfection. The place had multiple food trucks, alcohol, picnic tables, etc. Families were having a great time with kids happily running around and adults chatting, listening to the guitarist singing in the background. Bucolic. Definitely worth going out of you way for this.
Frances B — Google review
My daughter and I stopped by for the free wine tasting and had a blast with our server Emma!! She was very knowledgeable about all the wines they offer. I love that they have half bottles of some of the wines to buy by the 4 pack, I can’t always finish a full bottle of wine in a timely manner so half bottles are perfect for me. Thanks for a great experience!!!
Patti K — Google review
We came here on a Sunday with our family and had a terrible experience. They didn’t have donuts or cider and it was nowhere posted on their website, only signs in store so we didn’t know until we got there after we drove over an hour with small kids. The orchard was also closed-again not posted ahead of time. Lastly, the wine tasting girl discriminated and embarrassed me by saying unless I showed my ID they wouldn’t serve me but did not card anyone else around me of the same age. I was with my family and definitely do not look under the age of 21. I am 32 years old. I support carding people but everyone should be treated with respect and as an equal not singled out. My ID was back in the car so we went back and just left. Very disappointed and a waste of a trip.

Rotary Botanical Gardens

Botanical garden
Sights & Landmarks
20 acres of landscaped paths & gardens, with tours of English-, Japanese- & French-themed areas.
We visited a few weeks ago with a friend visiting from Florida. Our RBG membership had lapsed, so we renewed and also learned of the Garden’s Halloween walks, so we returned over the weekend with our grandkiddos. Our scheduled walk was fun & entertaining, led by two very friendly witches, and several stops along the way where performers sang, danced and read enlightening passages. The RBG holds a long-standing collection of beautiful flora. Most of the infrastructure is marvelous, with many resting benches engraved with notable quotations. A small portion needs work to bring it back to its glory.

20 acre garden on Janesville was pretty and upkept. Took us about an hour to hour and a half to walk through. They had bathrooms along the way and places to rest if needed. They also had a kids story garden that was cute for the little ones. Its worth a visit

Terrific experience from start to finish. We weren't sure what to expect in later fall weather, but there was plenty to enjoy with the pond, leaf colors, perennials, and garden art. Loved the Children's garden, and the wonderful paths around the gardens. We always come for the Holiday lights in winter, and pledged to return in the summer. Our new goal is spring and mid-summer too!

Very beautiful and well maintained garden. Lots of easy waking paths. I found the oriental gardens to be very peaceful and a great spot for birdwatching. Loads of seating throughout the trails to just sit and enjoy nature.
Bonnie G — Google review
The Rotary Botanical Gardens have several gardens within them. There is something for everyone: an English cottage garden, an Italian garden, a French rose garden, a children's garden, a Japanese garden, and more. There is a red arched bridge that spans the mouth of a pond that takes up a large portion of the garden. This would be a good scene for wedding or prom pictures. A couple of things marred our visit and prevent me from giving it 5 stars. Several of the trees and bushes in the Japanese section were wrapped with Christmas lights, and the associated extension cords were visible in several places where they could have been buried or hidden. You can see them in the gate picture on my review, for example. The main pond was pretty scummy. I know they are working on improving it, but in its current state it distracts from the gardens. Finally, the gravel area in the Japanese garden had not been raked recently, so there was no wave pattern as mentioned on a nearby sign. In general, I think it is worth visiting, but the gardens could be so much better with a little more work.

Rock Cut State Park, located just a short drive from downtown Rockford, is a sprawling 3,092-acre outdoor paradise. The park offers a wide range of activities throughout the year, including hiking and horseback riding trails, camping facilities, and two picturesque lakes for fishing and boating. With over 40 miles of hiking trails that cater to all skill levels and various seasonal landscapes to explore, it's an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts.
Beautiful state park, very natural with lots of trails to wander on. We went to Lake Olson and meandered into the woods, finding a bunch of oyster mushrooms and beautiful tree tunnels. We even spotted a shiny green Tiger Beetle hopping along one of the trails! Will definitely be back sometime to explore more of the park, Rockford is so lucky to have such a lovely area right on its edge.

Rock Cut SP has so much to offer. It is a wonderful place to spend some time. We camped here for three nights during the last week of June. The people at the permit station were all very kind at check-in and the multiple times we drove thru. There are many campsites available on separate loops. Most, from what we saw, were leveled, and many had a decent amount of shade. Some were wide open and had no privacy. There are also some sites right by the lake. The bathrooms were a disappointment, however. No toilet seats? Just a toilet bowl. The showers were okay, but the shower curtains looked so dirty. The facility itself looked very old and definitely in need of updates and repairs. Also, while there are separate campground loops , there are only two flush toilets/ shower buildings. Driving around the park, we saw many picnic areas and trail heads. There are many benches situated around the lake to sit and enjoy the beautiful views. Near one of the boat launch areas, there is a concession store and cafe. We had great customer service at both. At the café we tried some smoothies, fries, and chicken nuggets. All very good. This park is undoubtedly beautiful. Unfortunately, visitors do not seem to care about it enough. We saw a lot of trash just scattered about. In one area where my husband was fishing, he filled an entire plastic bag with empty bottles he found within just a few feet. Plan to come back and explore some more!
Maria B — Google review
We camped here for 4 nights. Some things were nice. Like being able to camp near the water. Others campers were very quiet that we were near. Other things could use a little more T.L.C. Like some of the pit toilets being out of toilet paper. The shower/toilet area could also use a little updating and more diligent cleaning. For the most part, we really did like our camping experience and would camp here again.

Rock Cut State Park – Illinois Rock Cut State Park offers a solid workout for those looking for a good walk or hike. The trails are well-marked with clear directions, making it easy to navigate. While the park doesn’t have an abundance of scenic viewpoints, there are a few nice spots worth stopping for. It’s a pleasant experience for outdoor exercise and a refreshing nature escape.

Nice campground but watch out for nearby dumpsters! Sites are pretty level and many are shady. Lot of big rigs in the electric loops. Dark and quiet at night at least in our loop. Hiking isn't very challenging but nice trails. Few skeeters for June.

Nestled on a hill south of town, New Glarus Brewing Company has been crafting quality brews since 1993. The brewery offers self-guided tours and reservation-only hard hat tours, allowing visitors to witness state-of-the-art brewing technology in action. With a commitment to using 100% natural ingredients, the company's craft beers are a delight for beer enthusiasts.
New Glarus is a pretty drive from Madison. It's 35 mins on country roads cutting through corn fields. Quintessential Wisconsin scenery of rolling hills. When friends visit, I like this brewery. I last went from a friend from the Netherlands. Y'all think Wisconsinites know beer - try the Dutch and the Belgians 😉 We had a great time enjoying a variety of beer and the park-like grounds. Their Strawberry Rhubarb beer is a fav 🏕️🥾🔥⛺

How fun to finally visit spotted cow. New Galtus embraces cows around the city. I love the festive atmosphere and hope to come back. Sampled serendipity and it was fabulous. The staff were young and happy which made it fun. Thank you. Proud of my sign and my memories here.

New Glarus Brewing doesn't need a lot of introduction, they make some of Wisconsin's most well known beers. They were in the middle of an expansion so on my stop they had a limited selection for tasting including a lager, farmhouse ale, oktoberfest, plus a watermelon, strawberry rhubarb, and a sour blackberry...they have several other beers, just not on for my stop. They had alp horns playing, free tours, and their gift shop and beer cave where up and running. I still want to stop back when they have tasting room and more taps on.

One of my favorite Breweries I've visited. They have an informative, self-guided tour that gives you a detailed history of the New Glarus Brewing Company. The surrounding landscape is gorgeous and they offer picnic table seating for the beer tastings. There is a large, free parking lot for customers.

Came on a Monday during July- hardly a soul around, and had the place pretty much to ourselves. Did not have time to do any tours, but was able to pick up some souvenirs. Absolutely beautiful grounds, with lots of areas to wander, tons of parking setup for tour buses, as well as a beautiful area to hang out beer-hall style! We've been drinking Spotted Cow for many years, so did not do any tasting. The place is clearly setup for masses of people- but what confused me, is when do these masses of people come, unless they are all retired people like me? ...Still amazed that a brewery could be closed on the weekend (which is why we had to come on a Monday before lunchtime).

Visited New Glarus for a beer tasting and had a great time! For $8, you get to sample three small beers and keep the tasting glass. Alternatively, for the same price, you can get a full pint of beer in a souvenir glass that you also get to take home. All seating is outdoors, which adds to the charm—it's a cute and relaxed spot to enjoy a drink.

New Glarus Gyrator Doppelbock: Located in New Glarus, WI, New Glarus Brewing Company was founded in 1993 and is known for their best-selling beer, Spotted Cow. A Doppelbock is a strong (Doppel means double) dark, German-style lager. It is sometimes referred to as “liquid bread” due to its malty sweetness, full body, and its traditional association with the Lenten season. Brewmaster Dan Carey put over ten years of barley research into choosing the Czech barley that goes into New Glarus’ Gyrator Doppelbock. While not as long as ten years, the brew does have a long journey as it’s lagered ten weeks in the cellar before resting in the bottle for an additional 6 months for a more mature flavor. Since I’m not the biggest beer drinker, I apologize for my description and undefined palate. For me, it was a heavy and creamy brew with a hoppy/lightly fruity flavor. It poured a clear dark amber/brown color. If you enjoy a good craft beer, then I think you’ll like this 😋. I found it drinkable for a beer, but it’s not one I would purchase myself😐. My favorite part was the extra strong buzz as it’s a higher alcohol content (nothing official on New Glarus’ website, which is weird but unofficial sources place it between 6.9-8 % alc/vol.). Love Spotted Cow and for years always took some home with us when visiting Wisconsin ..this trip we were able to visit!! Did the self-guided tour and was great to learn more about their history. Tasting - 3 4 ounce tastes allows you to choose which beers you'd like to try, and you keep the tasting glass! They have an area where you can wrap your glass to protect it while traveling. Nice selection in the gift shop and area to purchase. Staff we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable. Great stop and we'll return when in the area again

Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern

Restaurant
Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern is a historic establishment that has been serving customers since 1931. It offers a delightful combination of a cheese and specialty food shop along with a charming tavern where visitors can enjoy local beers and pub-style meals. The cozy interior features wooden booths, while the outdoor patio provides an ideal setting for enjoying cold beer during the summer months. The tavern is renowned for its wide selection of gourmet cheeses, which are featured in their popular rye bread sandwiches.
I was told about this place by a friend, and holy cow, it surpassed by expectations. I got the special - Philly cheese steak - and of course had to get the classic cold sandwich - salami and brick cheese. This was honestly one of the best cold sandwiches and also one of the best hot sandwiches I’ve ever had. I was savoring the final bites. The sauces are perfect. 10/10 would recommend. Our server also gave us great service and fantastic recommendations.

If you’ve come this far, be brave and go for the heavy hitter.. Braunschweiger & Limburger. Make sure you get onions on the sandwich, side of potato salad to help cleanse the palate. Find your soul for a culinary adventure and suck it up. Drink 🍺 with each bite and you’ll be fine.

Cheese store in the front, deli turned restaurant/bar towards the back. Decor embraces the Switzerland vibe in the area. Curds are broiled not fried, but delicious. Enjoyed the pretzel and cheese sauce also. Great selection of cheese sandwiches, cold or grilled. Salad was delicious with large portions. Kids enjoyed the half slab ribs for $10. This place is pretty cool, definitely with a check.

Limburger Cheese, Braunschweiger and sharp red onions on dark rye. This is my favorite sandwich at Baumgartner’s. Another popular sandwich is the homemade tuna salad (not always available). Baumgartner’s Cheese Store and Tavern has a good selection of beer with the local New Glarus Brewing Co beers on tap. Usually there are at least 3 soups served each day. If you have the chance to order the Tomato Basil bisque, you definitely will not be disappointed.

Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern is more than just a restaurant; it's an institution. The combination of its historic charm, outstanding service, and truly unforgettable food makes it an absolute must-stop when you're in town. You won't be disappointed!

I absolutely LOVE small town Wisconsin restaurants/bars with character. Baumgartners OOZES Wisconsin character. From their cheese focused menu, and local craft beers, to the kitchy decor that hasn't seen an update since the Carter administration. Hidden behind the small town charms, however, is a menu simple, charming, and deeply delicious. If youre in the neighborhood, give them a hello, and have a snack, lunch, or just a cocktail.

Wow! This place is great. Old school vibe; bet this place hasn’t changed at all in the past 70 years! Had their daily lunch special, shrimp salad wrap, which came with a pickle and a slab of farmers cheese. Amazing. Had a pint of New Glarus beer to wash it down, and can’t think of a better lunch! Thanks Baumgartners, made my day!

Being from Mineral Point, I can sometimes take the Pendarvis for granted, but it truly is a hidden gem! If you're visiting the area, you absolutely must take a tour and immerse yourself in the rich history that this site has to offer. Pendarvis beautifully showcases the story of our town, highlighting the impact of Cornish immigrants who settled here during the lead mining boom. The dedicated staff does a fantastic job of sharing this history with visitors, making it engaging and informative. Take some time to explore Pendarvis—you won't be disappointed! It's a wonderful way to connect with the past and appreciate the heritage of Mineral Point.

What a hidden gem. We did the guided tour, and Judy was terrific. History is fascinating, and I'm eager to learn more. Definitely deserves a return trip.

We found the tour by our two guides very informative and took about an hour. The original buildings are very historic and unique. The guides provided background on the buildings, local history and mining. Two buildings up the hill are open (not guided) and also interesting.

Lovely Wisconsin Historical Society site. It's a Cornish mining settlement from the 1800s (one of the mines is across the street and you can walk the trails). In the 1930s two men bought and preserved many of the buildings. Admission price gets you a guided tour..ours lasted about 45 minutes. There are a couple buildings you can visit on your own. Nice little gift shop as well. Bottled water is available to purchase and there is a drinking fountain by the restrooms too. Parking area is in a lot kitty corner to the site. The whole Mineral Point area is rich with history and there are so many beautiful historic buildings.

A piece of heaven in the mid-west. Exceptionally quiet and serene as it's just north of the main part of Clinton and literally hidden away on a hillside overlooking the Mississippi. Bald Eagles can be spotted at the right time of the year from the outside deck. The tasting room in Le Claire is forever home, but the journey to the main operation is absolutely a must.

4 stars for the wines and the seclusion. 1 star for the maintenance & cleanliness. We have hornets buzzing around us. There's spider webs hanging all over the chairs & walls. Most of the speakers don't work. One of three outdoor fans worksb ZZZ. Aside from the wines, this place has a feeling like the owners are holding onto all the money they can here. They have replaced the awful roof on the covered patio. The only employee that we ever see here is great. She could use some "rush" help. They are pet friendly.

Fantastic wine! Maybe the best I ever had. Beautiful! Vineyard wraps around the hills overlooking the Mississippi. Wonderful people. Dorothy and Charlie are very welcoming. We were fortunate enough to camp during harvest and experience grape from wine to tounge. It's off the path a bit, but certainly worth the stop.

We were driving through Clinton, IA and wanted to explore the area. We found this gem of a place; Wide River Winery. This hidden place was close to the Mississippi River but not directly on but overlooking the river. Driving up a long naturist gravel road until signs marked directions where the winery was located. We went in late afternoon on a Monday and were pleasantly surprised they were open. Only another couple there and just leaving making it our quiet afternoon getaway. The staff friendly and engaging. The place clean with beautiful views. Had a couple of glasses of wine and enjoyed the beautiful day. Definitely have to visit this place in the fall when the leaves begin to turn their marvelous colors. They also serve hors d’oeuvres. Highly recommend.

Authentic, delicious and memorable. They have nailed the ambiance and taste. An absolutely charming way to spend time sipping very satisfyingly elegant wine while enjoying the natural sights of the Mississippi River. Relaxing to say the least. The wine offers different options of velvety, balanced or fruity tastes with additional options of small plate tidbits to accompany the experience . (Also, Randy did an excellent job helping me to find the perfect wine choice for my palette, and Liz provided a beautiful tour of the vineyard. Can’t wait to return. (Will try to add photos if possible)

Wine was excellent. A good variety both of Iowa/estate grown and other grapes used. Great atmosphere. Sarah was such an amazing employee. Great customer service and conversation with her. Will definitely come back next time in the area!

I have no complaints! The wine, view, service and dining areas are amazing! The outdoor area is great! The road coming up is crazy! I would not want to do that drive in the winter or the rain. I will say, if you think you’re going the wrong way, you’re actually going the right way. They do a good job at posting signs to help you get there. It’s all part of the experience. I’m really impressed with the wine and selection. I was very pleased with my sweet red. It was raspberry heavy, which I love so I think that’s why I loved it so much even though I’m a semi-dry drinker. I got the Pursuit Of Happiness. Great little find! We stumbled across this simply by driving by their sign on the highway!

Food & Drink
Blaum Bros. Distilling Co., established in 2013 by two whiskey-loving brothers, is a renowned distillery located just minutes from downtown Galena. The distillery offers informative tours where visitors can witness the wood-aging barrels and learn about the distillation process before indulging in tastings of their finest creations. Additionally, guests can relax in comfortable leather couches at the on-site bar and savor creative cocktails made with spirits crafted at the distillery.
We stopped in on a Thursday night and the place was pretty empty. We did not do a tour and elected to sample a few of their drinks in the bar area. You can sit by the bar or in one of the many leather couches they have..we chose the latter. My wife had their Chocolate Martini and I had their Old Fashion along with a single shot of their bourbon. All drinks were very good. This is a family owned and operated craft distillery. They do not serve food at the distillery but they go at their other location in downtown Galena...Public House. They make their own Bourbon,Gin, Vodka,Rum and Rye Whiskey ..so something for everyone's palette.

We had a great time at Blaum Bros. Distilling Co. here in Galeno today. The business model is impressive, focusing on quality and craftsmanship, and it’s clear they take great pride in what they do. The bar area is stylish and well-designed, creating a modern yet welcoming atmosphere. The distillery tour was a highlight, and our guide was exceptional - knowledgeable, engaging, and really made the experience memorable. The only slight downside for me was that some of the products seemed a bit overpriced compared to similar offerings on the market. However, considering the overall quality and the experience, I’d say it’s still worth a visit. Highly recommend for anyone interested in craft spirits and a great tour experience!

Fun store and tasting is $12 of a tasting of 3 whiskey plus a tour of the distillery for $40 per person. Free parking and nice ambiance and the most comfy sink yourself in the leather and enjoy the store. There’s a store with T-shirts and all kinds of bourbon or whiskey items, including cups and whiskey glass cups plus the cutest mini baby whiskey flask glen cairn glass.
Karina K — Google review
Highly recommend stopping by Blaum Brothers Distilling if you are looking for something different to do while in Galena. My husband and I did the tour which was only $12 per person and included three samples at the end. Emma was our tour guide, and she was very engaging and had a lot of knowledge on the company and the processes. The Hellfyre vodka was my favorite! You can definitely taste the freshness of the peppers that are used. It was great in a Bloody Mary (their Bloody Mary mix was delicious also) and in the chocolate martini (don’t knock it till you try it). The tasting room/bar was absolutely beautiful and you can tell that a lot of thought went into every item that was in that room. Even if you are not a whiskey or bourbon drinker, like myself, I am confident you will still have fun and will find a drink you will enjoy!

WOW I had such a great experience at Blaum Bros Distilling Co Tour with Pam in Galena, Illinois. I highly recommend to purchase and set a date for the distillery tour because you can learn so much history and cool details in how they make their great high quality products. There was so many fun facts, 80’s puns, Ghostbuster references I felt like I need to come for a 2nd tour to catch them all. 😹 And to think just months prior we met one of the Blaum Bros at our local Batavia store Smoke N Liquor 🥃. Overall it made our vacation with good friends very memorable. Thank you so much to the staff of Blaum Bros. Distillery! 🙏 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The Ulysses S. Grant Home, located in Galena, Illinois, is a two-story Italianate brick mansion built in 1859 and given to President Ulysses S. Grant by the citizens of Galena in 1865. The home is now a state historic site where visitors can tour the well-preserved residence and view original furniture from Grant's time.
Had an absolutely amazing tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and seemed to love what she was doing. We got there right as they opened. My son loves learning about the presidents and Grant is one of his favorites! His jaw was on the floor the entire time! We plan to visit again, even if it’s the same information!!

Great place to learn some history. The tours are free (donations accepted) and they really have some amazing things inside with lots of stories and gifts given to President Grant and his family. Our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge and knew answers to every question we had. When you're done taking the inside tour check out the other buildings on the ground and the statues/monuments on the lawn. All are worth checking out.

In historic Galena, Illinois resided one of America's most important Presidents, Ulysses S. Grant. This simple home was a gift from the grateful people of the town. It's a lovely tour by dedicated docents. It's beyond reasonable - a $5 "donation" is recommended. The home is well preserved and decorated with many of Grant's original furnishings. This is definitely worth the trip!
Tony S — Google review
The home and tour itself is five star- worthy. I've been here twice in 11 months. The guides will ask where you are from. That's where I take a star off. Once they hear "Chicago" or "near Chicago" the smiles and warmth vanish. 2 different guides in under a year can't be an accident. Chicagoans/Chicagoland-ers; come for the carefully preserved history and the former president, endure the living 😉
Allison K — Google review
The tour was phenomenal... It was very educational and interesting to see how the house, Ulyses, and his wife raised their kids in. We didn't pay for tickets, but they go based on donations. For adults, it's a suggested donation of $5, and for kids, it's a different price.

Refreshingly authentic for a historical home, the rooms are designed as they would have been for the Grant family, circa 1860. While the tour was okay, one could get a feeling for the period depicted just by walking through the home. Grant's favorite chair and the cigar stand were hits for me.

However, some patrons have experienced issues with rental boots that caused discomfort during skiing. Nevertheless, the resort offers refunds for unused rentals in such cases. Despite limited options on the menu, guests can enjoy on-site food as a post-ski snack.
My daughter, her friend, and I drove out here from the Rockford area for a day trip and wanted to do the Alpine Slide. It was one of the coolest things we've ever done, and my teen said it's in the top 5 things we've gone to do together, so that's saying something lol. Everyone there was super nice, helpful, polite, and informative. Used the restrooms while there and they were clean, stocked, and well maintained. The price of everything was reasonable as well

Fun stop on our family vacation (did not stay at the hotel). Went about an hour after open and the place was a ghost town which was nice, no lines. Staff consisted of most teenagers, but were pleasant. Very clean and well taken care of and likely a great ski area. The alpine slide was fun, $10/person seemed a bit high for a single ride, but also included ski lift back. We were bummed the mini golf course wasn't available while we were there.

First trip to Galena end of September. Didn’t realize that the hotel was a bit further out from the main downtown restaurants and shops. Overall a good experience, hotels is a bit dated in some areas but some of the rooms are a bit updated. No elevator in the hotel and WiFi and phone service were a bit shotty. Beautifully decorated for fall. Great views, lots to do at the hotel

This most recent trip was for the wedding of my daughter to her husband. This was an easy experience with the venue. Everything was in place- all changes made on food and every thing went seamlessly. I would say wr had about 50 to 60 guests in the hotels some of us had pets so we were on the other side of the villa. We asked a lot of the staff with that many of us. As far as the rooms go - yes they may be a little dated but part of the charm is it is Bavarian style- and there have been some recent upgrades including the outside stairs that were wooden are now metal with more sturdy railings. The staff helped with go carts carrying large items for the dj and boxes of items full of decorations to the parking area so no one had to use dollies or carry with multiple trips. Overall a very positive experience for a wedding and just in general the views are beautiful and staff all over the resort is great. Many of our guests will be returning on separate trips to take part in other events in the area.

My fiance and I were visiting Galena, IL for a weekend and needed a place to stay for one night. I found Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort online and I booked a room. It was magical! We've never been there before and we were amazed at all the outdoor summer things to do there! We rode the Soaring Eagle twice (a 2 seated zipline), the ski lift up and down the mountain to take in the views, and we watched other people ride the downhill slide on small carts. It was so much fun. We'll be back someday for sure!

We booked 2 rooms, we got put in pet section rooms, where people with pets get placed. Rooms very run down & both rooms stink. Worst part the water. Horrible just horrible smell. We had to open windows to get the smell out. Couldn't stand to take a shower 2nd day couldn't take my body smelling like that again. We all complained. No discount, nothing. We will not be back, nor recommend to anyone coming to town.

The Iowa 80 Trucking Museum offers a fascinating look into the history of trucking with its collection of antique models and vintage memorabilia. Founded by Bill Moon, the museum showcases over 100 different trucks dating back to the turn of the 20th century, including rare and unique pieces. Visitors can explore a large warehouse space filled with trucks of all kinds, each accompanied by informative plaques.
Free admission but well worth a nice donation. You could spend a couple hours easily. Plenty of benches you can sit on to rest. Lots of trucks and info that are amazing. Definitely worth a stop. Separate parking than the truck stop too.

I had been dreaming of visiting this museum for a long time - and I finally did! It’s one of the best museums out there. Admission is free, though I highly recommend leaving a donation so it can keep growing. The museum has dozens of fascinating trucks, including my favorite - the Diamond Reo. You’ll also find plenty of vintage rigs from the early days of trucking. The oldest one dates back to 1903. Definitely visit - you won’t regret it!

Come for the spectacle, skip the beef stew 🛻🥒🌶️ Iowa 80 Truck Stop—aka the world’s largest—is an absolute must-stop. Three stories of pure road trip madness: part trucker paradise, part retail circus, part roadside museum. We spent a couple of hours just exploring the place—and honestly, we probably could’ve stayed longer. Want a haircut? They’ve got a barber shop. Need an adjustment? There’s a chiropractor. Toothache on the road? Yep, there’s even a dentist. Oh, and a movie theater—because why not? We ate at the restaurant and made one tragic mistake: the beef stew. Unless you’re feeling nostalgic for a Swanson TV dinner from 1975, steer clear. That said, the buffet looked great, and there were plenty of other menu options we should’ve gone with. Before we left, we grabbed a jar of their Carolina Reaper salsa (hot and flavorful—amazing stuff) and some of their sweet pickles. Both were worth the stop on their own. Pro tip: Skip the stew, hit the buffet, and take time to explore. This place is part truck stop, part fever dream, and 100% awesome.

Have stopped here several times over the years. While I personally avoid it due to the crowds and enormity of the place, it is however a fun place to stop when my wife is traveling with me on the road. We stopped this last time during their July party weekend. There was a truck show, some live music, some booths, huge tents and a very festive atmosphere. We actually saw it as we were passing and backtracked out of the way to return. After easily finding parking in the huge lot We spent a few minutes enjoying looking at the spectacle of trucks and we're entertained. After that we wandered around and there was nothing ... it was a big fat nothing burger. Lame music, most booths were closed. Some overpriced sad BBQ plates were offered in big tents. This was 5pm on a Friday...

The Iowa 80 Truck Stop is a genius destination. It has so many service options and a whole lot of space. There is ample parking for semi-trucks, campers, standard sized vehicles and more. It has multiple semi-trucks and other vehicles on display inside the building. The location provides an up-close, hands-on experience unlike anything that I have ever seen. It was my first time getting into the tractor unit of a semi-truck, it is the front part of the vehicle that houses the engine and the driver's cab. It was such a fascinating experience to visit the Iowa 80 Truck Stop and understand how the semi-trucks operate to keep products moving throughout the United States. There was a lot to see and do at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop.

First visit ever yesterday, in spite of living in the vicinity years ago and occasionally driving past. Possibly the original super-stop for travelers and truckers. Includes a food court of six different fast-food chains, as well as a sit-down restaurant. Souvenirs for sale as well as unique food options in addition to the expected name brands. Gas yesterday was $0.40/gal cheaper than in Iowa City.

Crazy large joint. Lots of stuff to buy that you don't need. I'd been on the road for three long days. It was nice to stop in and have a decent cup of coffee and a bagel. I didn't utilize their showers, but I've heard that they're very nice.

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Herbert Hoover National Historic Site spans 187 acres and is home to the birthplace cottage, burial plot, and Presidential Library-Museum of Herbert Clark Hoover, the 31st President of the United States. Visitors are drawn to this site in West Branch to witness where Hoover was born and laid to rest. The guided tour offers insights into his humble beginnings and rise to presidency. The peaceful surroundings make it a serene place for both humans and pets alike.
My beautiful bride is a huge National Park enthusiast, I am not too far behind. We enjoyed our visit to the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site. The park staff, including the ranger and the volunteers, were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable offering insights that brought Hoover's story to life. The exhibits were well maintained and thoughtfully curated making it easy to appreciate the historical significance of the site. Learning about Herbert Hoover's early life and the Quaker village he grew up in was enlightening. The preserved buildings and peaceful grounds offered a genuine sense of what life was like in his formative years. It's a great stop for anyone interested in American history, presidential heritage or simply looking for a quiet, informative visit. We would definitely recommend stopping if you are in the area!

Stopped because this was on our way home. Really liked it and learned a lot about Hoover. My prior knowledge came from 7th grade history and consisted of him being blamed for the Great Depression. So much more accomplished! Inspired me to purchase a biography to learn more. Definitely worth your time, and just a beautiful place to have lunch!
Terrence B — Google review
Despite the presidential library being closed the site was still fascinating. Felt like I was stepping into a bit of what Hoover experienced with the grounds there with the birth home, tall grass fields, and surrounding historic buildings nearby. I flew out to Iowa to specifically see this on a quest to see the grave site of every president. The gravesite was nice and solemn. However one thing I was not prepared for was the bugs! Small gnats everywhere. If you go near late May beware. They very much ruined my experience. Obviously nothing the site itself can control but I could not escape them no matter what I did. Wear bug spray! I would’ve but didn’t know to be aware of that issue headed into it

Great place to spend the afternoon. Library was closed for renovations, but still a lot to see. Very pretty grounds and lots of education to be had. Plenty of parking.

Was a really cool experience and the park is layed out really well. The seasonal staff inside (Aaron) was unbelievably friendly, polite and even went digging in the back for a whole bunch of other Junior ranger programs. I'll probably be back next time I come through!

As you know I am a fan of NPS and all the sites. I was in the area and needed to stop to learn about our 31st President. There's a short self-guided walk through the grounds. Very interesting!
Mike M — Google review
The best part is access to some of the buildings. You can go inside President Hoover's original home and get a feel for how closely his family lived.
Jim S — Google review
This is a great site for a quick visit. The video and exhibit is a bit repetitive, I would recommend one orthree other. The guided tour was great, it's a short comfortable walk for all ages to the various buildings. Along the same street are a few historic buildings with plaques that lead to the main street.

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, established in 1962, offers a fascinating insight into the life and work of President Herbert Hoover. Situated within the picturesque grounds of the Herbert Hoover Historic Site, the museum showcases a range of exhibits including artifacts, letters written by Hoover himself, and insightful videos that provide an overview of his presidency and post-presidential years. Visitors can also explore displays highlighting his extensive overseas experiences and even view a recreated Waldorf Astoria suite from his later years.
This is my favorite Iowa historic site. A great tribute to Hoover. Interesting, kid friendly library exhibits and beautiful grounds, complete with Hoover's tiny childhood home and restored neighborhood. A great family daytime trip, especially in the fall.
Glenn S — Google review
The museum is easy to get to and you can park fairly close to the entrance. While there is a lot of information about Hoover's presidency, I was most interested in the displays about Hoover's relief work and his efforts to provide food to starving people across Europe, Russia, etc. Nice museum that gives great insight into our 31st president and the grounds of the museum with the Tallgrass Prairie are a spectacular bonus.
Alice B — Google review
Great visit to this excellent museum, though smaller than newer Presidential libraries, it is well done and super interesting, great, well presented story of Hoover and his spouse, and the era in which they lived. Especially enjoyed the exhibits on his work overseas (maybe our most experienced President as regards a wide range of overseas real life non-political experiences?) and loved the recreated Waldorf Astoria suite and associated artifacts from his post presidential years. Also learned the key role Lou Hoover played e.g. in creation of the Girl Scout cookie program. Do visit this museum and library if you are in the area!
GT H — Google review
We learned so much about Herbert Hoover in his museum. Presidential museums educate and recall so many things about a specific time in our nation's history. Great investment in your knowledge base.🚶🤓✝️🇺🇸
Roger B — Google review
Very well done, smaller presidential museum. There is a small film to watch, then a mix of visual displays with very good signage. The museum tells a balanced, in depth story of his life from birth in a tiny home thru his death in the early 60’s. Hoover’s rise from being orphaned at an early age, being raised by his relatives to college graduation and economic success in mining, then government service and his one term Presidency. Hoover seemed to be a very talented individual, a victim of his times, and perhaps too humble for a top politician. Gained an appreciation for his knowledge and accomplishments. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good on site parking, no restaurant on site.

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Museum, located in West Branch, Iowa, showcases the life and presidency of Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States. It houses Hoover's documents, artifacts, and exhibits detailing his humanitarian work and the challenges of his presidency during the Great Depression. The library also serves as a resource for researchers interested in this period of American history.
Tom P — Google review
The museum is pretty small for $10. You can watch a 23 min video that basically tells you what is on all of the plaques in the museum. They try to incorporate items from the time period and less actual presidential items owned by Hoover. They could use some cleaning up as there is a dead bug on one of the books that clearly should not be there. They currently have a depressing Russian famine exhibit as well. They buildings from Hoover's childhood are free to go into. You can walk to the gravesite or drive pretty close and park, depending on the number of visitors. They say "up a hill" but it's not so bad. The staff is very friendly and likes to talk, but she didn't seem to up to date with the actual exhibits when questioned.
August F — Google review
Nice location and a cool presidential library and museum. Although the Hoover presidency faced a lot of criticism and downturns, this informative museum highlighted many of the issues with the administration and we learned a lot more about the man.

Brucemore is a grand 19th-century mansion situated on a historic 26-acre estate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It serves as a tribute to the legacies of three prominent local families. Initially constructed in 1884 for Caroline and her children, it was renowned as 'the grandest house west of Chicago.' The mansion was designed in the Queen Anne style but underwent renovations by subsequent owners, George and Irene Douglas, who transformed it into a simpler Craftsman style.
Beautiful historic home tour. Ticket prices are very reasonable for such a lovely tour. We saw the Christmas display, but wish to return in summer to see the gardens. Staff was very kind and knowledgeable.

I enjoyed the tour and got impressed by the interior. You can learn about the history of the owners. There is a garden as well. There is also a souvenir shop.

A beautiful historic home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The house tour was informative, interesting, and even had a few twists! The grounds and gardens are beautiful and open to the public for a stroll, to walk the dog, or wander with children. It must necessarily be a wonderful and g.j gorgeous backdrop f ou r the many community arts events held there. I am looking forward to returning during the holiday season.
Lynn H — Google review
Only toured the grounds so can’t speak to the inside of the house. Grounds were beautiful to walk around, some paved paths, but otherwise you can just walk through the gardens and hilltop. Free to see the grounds so worth it for a quick stop. They could use some better signage for some of the buildings. Even if we had time to tour the house, didn’t even know where to get the tickets. One staff member we saw was less than helpful and couldn’t even direct us. Google maps may take you to the “exit” to get in, so look for the one small sign on 1st pointing to actual main entrance.
Elizabeth K — Google review
Very interesting and unique historic property. Only $5 to explore the mansion. The organ alone is worth the admission. The Grant Wood porch is a real gem for artistic types. I only wish the interpretive displays and brochures would explain more of how the families who lived here positively impacted the local community and how their philanthropy was significant to the city/region. Talking to the docents, there is a lot of additional information that could be shared. This additional information is what makes a historic property interesting. This alone dropped it one star. Otherwise, it would be five stars for me.

If you live in Iowa this is a must stop to learn about the families behind the biggest industries in Cedar Rapids. The home is filled with an amazing history and I truly enjoyed the tour.

Very informative and knowledgable staff! Everyone was very welcoming and as we only had a short time to spend there they were able to give suggestions on what to see quickly. Quality exhibits and gift shop with great gift ideas. Worth the stop and perfect location to then walk around an explore more of the Czech Village.

Professionally curated collections including both historical and modern treasures. The museum highlights the Immigrant experience as well as the home country experience. People exploring their heritage will find an abundance of information on Czech and Slovak culture. The volunteers offer valuable insights and personal stories. The gift shop includes authentic pieces for purchase. Additionally, the library has limitless resources and helpful and knowledgeable staff.

The museum represents our history, which should resonate deeply with every Slovak and Czech. It reminds us where we came from, what kind of world we once lived in, and why we should value freedom and democracy. Powerful stories of our ancestors are told here.

Worth the stop. In this era when immigration is pivoting, I am so glad to drop in to this museum; and listen to the VOICES of FREEDOM. This exhibit helps me realize just how grateful I am for the freedom and privileges I have inherited. I live on the backs of those who came before me here in this land, and those who sacrificed for the preservation of our liberties and ideals. Beautifully and artfully done.

This museum contains exhibits and artifacts chronicling the arrival of Czech and Slovak immigrants to the United States. The museum also contains a store and library, which includes books and periodicals for research. The staff are very knowledgeable about this overlooked piece of American history. Highly recommended for history buffs.

As someone who enjoys visiting museums across the US that focus on the cultures and countries from which immigrants came to America, I can confidently say the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in Cedar Rapids is an absolute gem. Impressive Scale and Infrastructure The size of this facility is truly astounding. This isn't just a small cultural center—it's a comprehensive 50,000 square-foot institution that rivals major museums in much larger cities. The infrastructure is remarkable. Outstanding Exhibits and Experiences The exhibits were superb throughout. Each display thoughtfully tells the story of Czech and Slovak immigration and culture, making it accessible whether you have personal connections to this heritage or are simply curious about American immigration history. A particular highlight was watching the clock tower's on-the-hour display of Czech workmanship—it's a rewarding experience that showcases the artistic traditions and craftsmanship that immigrants brought with them to America. A Source of Pride Having grown up in Northwest Iowa and spent time in Omaha, I've seen how immigrant communities maintain connections to their heritage. The Czechs, both those from the US and from the Czech Republic itself, must be incredibly proud of this museum. It's clear that significant care, resources, and love have gone into creating this institution. Bottom Line This is absolutely a must-visit destination in Iowa. Whether you're interested in immigration history, Czech and Slovak culture, or simply appreciate well-curated museums, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library delivers an exceptional experience that honors both the immigrant journey and the rich cultural traditions that continue to enrich American communities today.

This is an entry fee well worth spent. You could literally spend two days in this place looking at the exhibits.

My husband and I stumbled in here, the displays were so informative and I love learning about another culture. We ended walking around for a couple of hours, the clothes and music were by far my favorite, the ship was also pretty cool. The gift shop seemed crazy high in prices but worth getting a couple of trinkets to commemorate your visit, the ladies working there were so nice!

The Iowa Children's Museum in Iowa City is a vibrant and educational destination for families. The space is well-designed with safety in mind and features a quiet room for breaks. Visitors can expect thorough cleaning protocols and the option to purchase an annual pass for additional benefits.
I have 7 year old twins and a 2 year old, they played for 3 hours straight. I like the flow of the museum, suitable for wide range of ages. Also very clean inside and all employees were friendly. Highly recommend visiting here, also helpful being in a mall right by the food court.

There truly is something for every kid here. A lot of the play areas are wheelchair/stroller accessible, they have sensory bags at the desk and warnings at each area for children with different sensory needs. The staff are super involved with visitors and are so kind to everyone. The ICM is also a part of Museums For All! We're not from the area, but we make this trip once a year because it's amazing!

My 4&5 year old boys loved it! The big slide and lights out room were a favorite!
Cody P — Google review
Accessible. So much to do and see. My kids tend to run from exhibit to exhibit and don’t stay long in one place. My 7 year old likes the “airplane”/“aviation” room best. My 4 year old likes the hospital/ambulance room best. I thought the ambulance was educational for me! So many cool sets and builds! I like the big coral cove room! Staff is attentive and is helpful. Children are encouraged to explore and discover. It is noisy, so if you’re sensitive, headphones are available to borrow. You can get a stamp and leave and come back latter same day. We like being able to break for lunch or snack, which the mall food court is right outside the museum, and go back in. Entrance is right next to outside doors, and is quick to get to. Parking is plenty, but you might have to walk a ways. One of our favorite spots to visit when in town.

Stylish rooms & suites with golf course views, plus a spa, an indoor/outdoor pool & 4 restaurants.
Always love going here, win or lose. The staff are so friendly, dealers and pit bosses. I typically bring $50 and enjoy the time I’m there. Even though I’d say I’m a “low profile” guest (only bringing in $50) I am always treated with respect and as a valued customer. This is and will be my favorite casino to play at. Thank you riverside staff! And too, the casino itself is beautiful, and busy, but not too busy. A great environment to enjoy a drink and company or no company.

I love the atmosphere, great people and an amazing staff. May I suggest if you have backed child support that you only ever have part of your money in the machine.i rolled a jackpot today while I had my entire bankroll 30 dollars, used a fifty was going to cash out and leave at 20. Not only was the jackpot taken but all the money that way in at the time. Thank you for leaving me with nothing to be able to get home.

The staff is great. They are relaxed, always smiling. And you feel welcome. The entire casino, including the bathrooms, just shine. And smell good. They're cleaning crew on the casino Floor are always pleasant. Would you like a casinos? Are not that way. These are just a few things that make the clientele comfortable. And not on edge as they gamble.
Brad M — Google review
All I can say about this casino is that they are stingy when it comes to giving out gifts, gift cards, and free plays. $10 gift cards? Really? I went to Bally's once and they sent me a coupon book with all kinds of good stuff. Free Buffets (everyday), Free Hotel every week, $100 FREE PLAY Every day!!!! PLUS $80 GIFT CARDS!!!! And their free gifts are not cheap gifts! I have been driving there to get my free $100 plays and $80 gift cards! An hour drive for me. It's worth it!! And the funny thing is...I don't have to lose hundreds of dollars just to get all these free stuffs. I can't wait until the new casino opens up in Cedar Rapids! Once they are open, I will be going there. No more Riverside!!!

Great games. Payout is very common on plenty of the machines. So much that you will get carried away if your not careful. Also the real gem is the restaurant Ruthies!!!! A+ on the food it is $$$ but we'll worth it. 😋 As always play for fun and do not build an addiction. IIt is a really good Casino/Hotel and we have stayed at the hotel as well and it was good. You will love the bathroom/shower! Tons of space. God bless!

Played the golf course and was very disappointed in the condition of the greens and course management. We were just a twosome on a Friday afternoon and we were placed behind 3 groups of 4 that were playing a best ball. They didn’t let us play through and it was very slow. Would have been nice to have a course ranger out there and they could maybe push these guys a bit. They are charging a pretty hefty green fee for slow play.

Cute little slice of American history and art. I've been in spring, and the wildflowers are gorgeous. This trip was late October, and the trees were spectacular. Unfortunately, the visitor center wasn't open. Hours are included in photos. There is a paved walking path. Well worth a stop even if only a few minutes.
