Immerse yourself in the captivating world of wildlife at Chattanooga Zoo, a 13.5-acre animal sanctuary located in Chattanooga, TN. With over 500 animals from around the globe, the zoo offers an intimate and authentic wildlife experience. Divided into distinct exhibits like Himalayan Passage, Gombe Forest, Corcovado Jungle, and more, visitors can explore diverse geographical terrains and witness the wide variety of species that call these habitats home.
This is a nice little zoo and can be walked in full within an hour or so. A decent amount of exhibits to see even though most of the animals opted to stay inside their enclosures to escape the July heat. It also seems there's construction throughout the zoo, mainly for expansion and building new exhibits. We enjoyed it a lot and it was a nice little stop on our trip.
Jim V — Google review
This was one of the cleanest zoos that I have visited! All of the animals was cared for like personal pets and had their enclosures set up to their likings. I was also impressed that ALL the animals had indoor air conditioned or heat/ outdoor enclosures that they could choose from. Cooling stations all throughout the zoo for the visitors and educational programs. The zoo is not huge but it is definitely worth the visit and I was so happy to see the animals looked happy!
Jessica C — Google review
Small zoo compared to most but very nice. Feed the giraffe for and extra $5. Parking is better I bet, when there is not a ball tournament next door. Clean restrooms.
Barry S — Google review
We had such a great time on our first, but definitely not last, visit! It’s pretty flat so it wasn’t hard to get around and I did most of the wheeling in my own. My daughter, Noelle, helped me some on the uphill spots which were VERY few. We loved it! So many great exhibits and animals and the people were very nice and accommodating. The restaurant seems really reasonable too. The gift shop is adorable. Definitely a great place for the whole family.
Glynis V — Google review
What a wonderful zoo! Great exhibits on the animals and a very clean zoo with friendly staff and plenty of restrooms. It's not a huge zoo, but the exhibits are well done, and you can get great views of the animals. We didn't get to see the anteater or the snow leopards. I think they were avoiding the heat. Appreciate the free admission for veterans. Very nice. Highly recommend the Chattanooga Zoo.
BRAD B — Google review
It was a hot August day on our vacation and my special needs daughter and I decided to do the zoo anyway. It is a smaller zoo so it did not take long to see everything. The animals were not overly active, who could blame them but there was still plenty to see. We were disappointed that there wasn't an elephant as that in one of two animals signs my daughter can do. I am not sure if we missed another way but the giraffe feeding was up some stairs and that did not work for my wheelchair daughter. Also, the red panda house was up a long ramp. Too much for me on the hot day so we skipped it. I wanted her to take a train ride as she loves that but the train they have is not wheelchair accessible. The only option was to take her out and walk her in. Again, too warm, and too much effort. The gal did say that their carousel had a ramp. We were finished at that point and headed to the carousel. As you can see in my photos they have a ramp that you can push the chair up into and something to click her into. It only clicks in one wheel not two as the spacing didn't work. Please consider straps where we can have two wheels in. The carousel doesn't go fast and we had her brakes on so it was safe but extra safety never hurts. The girls running the carousel were very nice and helpful. We left through the gift shop and since we did not see the red panda I purchased a small stuffy for her to have. It was almost $19. Overpriced in my opinion.
Jenny U — Google review
The animals seemed cared for. The staff was knowledgeable about the animals and happy to tell the kids fun facts about them at different exhibits. It's a bit on the smaller side, but it was clean. It was pretty cool that most exhibits had ways to see the indoor part of the enclosures where the animals would go the get out of the heat. The gift shop was insanely over priced and the drinks were expensive ($13 for 3 waters). For the price of admission the experience was well worth it!
Faith R — Google review
We had a great time I feel due to the nice weather as all the animals were out and loving the temperature. My grandson loved it.

Great introductory movie and historic gun collection at the visitor center. We had difficulty with the NPS app and the website working for the driving tour. However, calling the phone number provided and giving your tour stop number worked great! Well maintained park. There are bike paths here.
Stacy F — Google review
Wonderful historical place that was very interesting to visit and beautiful to see. The park was clean, peaceful and very informative. We would love to go back in the fall as I can imagine. It would be beautiful then as well. Just a wonderful place to see and experience. Bathrooms areaccessible and across from parking.
Gay H — Google review
This park is wonderful. The visitor's center has an amazing, well informed staff that were super helpful. A lot of great books in the gift shop. The video is very well done. The park itself has a lot of clear markers to explain the battle. The monuments and the grounds are all well taken care of. Kudos to the rangers and staff at this park. I've been to a lot of sites, and this one impressed me. I will come back again!
L B — Google review
Great place to learn about the battle. We've been to Vicksburg and Gettysburg Battlefields. This was the first battlefield they started displaying monuments and they look very good. The movie was informative and grounds kept up. You can do a tour with ranger, at their scheduled time or do your own.
Liz W — Google review
We brought our horses up from Florida in search of cooler weather. We were blessed with clear skies and a Fall breeze that felt wonderful. The equestrian trail head was easy to get in and out of. The trails were well-groomed but rocky. Definitely recommend horse shoes on all four hooves or trail boots. The water Crossings were very manageable. We had such a great time. Love riding our horses here.
Beverly O — Google review
I loved spending a couple of hours in this place of our nations history! The tributes to the lives lost were so nice to visit and pay respects to those who died for our freedoms. And all of the reading plaques to help enlighten on what all happened on those very grounds were perfectly thought out and informative!
David M — Google review
Though the visitors Center was closed due to shutdown, the self guided driving tour was open and it was super easy to follow. Many parking areas to stop if you want. Definitely don't miss Wilders Brigade.

Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum

Rail museum
Tours
The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum is a living museum that offers a captivating journey into the history of American railroading. Visitors can step aboard historic passenger cars dating back to the early 1900s and embark on train excursions, such as the Missionary Ridge Local trip, which includes a turntable demonstration and engaging narration on railway history. The museum also features restored trains, some over 100 years old, providing an immersive experience for engineering enthusiasts.
We had a wonderful experience at TN Valley Railroad! It was a dreary, rainy day and decided to go on the Missionary Ridge tour. It was perfect! We got there half an hour early, but the train left right on schedule. The guys working our train were kind, friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable about the railroad. We had a choice between an air conditioned car, or one with fresh (window) air. We chose the fresh air, windows down. Choose this, if the weather is nice! The rain cleared long enough for us to see the turntable demonstration and to walk over and see the other locomotives that were being repaired. It was all in all the best first train ride and tour we could have asked for. We will be returning in the coming months with our children. We hope to try the deli next time around because it looked fantastic! We had already eaten and didn’t know they had one in the station. The gift shop was great also! Lots to choose from, affordable and very friendly. The pictures definitely don’t do it justice!

Wonderful train ride, beautiful fall foliage, water views and mountains. And our narrator was excellent and the entire crew was attentive and courteous. The accommodations were very comfortable. We throughly enjoyed ourselves. Rick and June Smith
Rickey S — Google review
It was a great experience very enjoyable. We choose the observation package. It was a very beautiful ride and also learned a lot along the way. The a/c was uncooperative on the way back but the staff did everything possible to make our ride enjoyable, even offered to move us to other seating. We were advised that boarding started 30 min before departure, although I would advise getting there around an hour before, even loading went very fast it would have given more an opportunity for seats.
Tammy F — Google review
We had a wonderful time along the Hiawassee River with the spectacular fall colors! We saw 2 bald eagles. Jason the conductor made our experience a thousand times better! He's amazing.
Dolly R — Google review
Our last minute trip to Summerville in November did not disappoint. From the fall colors to riding on a train with a nostalgic steam engine and fantastic tour guide to dining in the dining car, the day was perfect. It was a double header so the “paparazzi” was fun too. Spending the entire day on the train with my honey was the best mini vacation we’ve had in a minute. It was a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle. A+++
Madeline H — Google review
Really enjoyed the ride. Very educational. The staff went way beyond for us. We were running late and they waited. My mother in law had to be let off at platform instead of stairs, they accommodated for her.. Everyone was very nice. Definitely recommend the train ride. Loved the music

Absolutely Unforgettable – The Hiwassee River Rail Adventure is Pure Magic! I hadn’t been on a real train in years, so when I spotted an Instagram video of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum’s Hiwassee River excursion, I knew it was the perfect way to celebrate my mom’s birthday. We made the 3-hour drive from home, and let me tell you – it was 100% worth every mile! We timed our trip for a Friday in mid-November, after hearing the fall colors were peaking a bit late this year. With just enough leaves fallen, the views of the majestic Hiwassee River opened up dramatically through the trees. Riding midday was key: the sunlight danced across the water, creating that breathtaking “jewel effect” John Muir raved about over 150 years ago when he walked these very banks: “My path all to-day led me along the leafy banks of the Hiwassee, a most impressive mountain river… Such a river is the Hiwassee, with its surface broken to a thousand sparkling gems, and its forest walls vine-draped and flowery as Eden.” He wasn’t exaggerating – the river truly sparkled like a thousand gems under the autumn sun, framed by the rugged gorge and Cherokee National Forest. It felt like stepping into a living postcard (or Eden itself!). This was the very last Hiwassee Loop trip of the season, and tickets were down to the final four when I booked – we ended up in coach class, but it was perfectly comfortable. The roughly 4-hour round-trip journey (50 miles through the stunning lower Hiwassee Gorge) flew by. We wandered freely between cars, snapped incredible photos and videos from the open-air vestibules (fresh mountain air + epic vistas = perfection), and soaked in the engineering marvel of the historic Hiwassee Loop where the tracks spiral over themselves. The staff were fantastic – friendly, hilarious, and full of fascinating stories about the railroad’s history, the local area, and the wildlife along the route. This isn’t just a train ride; it’s a one-of-a-kind adventure that blends nostalgia, nature, and pure joy. If you’re debating it… book it now! You won’t regret experiencing one of the most scenic rail journeys in the Southeast. Highly recommend for families, nature lovers, history buffs, or anyone needing a memorable escape. We’ll be back! 🚂💎
Sean M — Google review
Rode the last Summerville steam special on the 630 train. It was a beautiful fall ride 🍁 occasionally there were some kids acting wild but that is probably to be expected. Be aware that if you’re on an open air coach, there is soot and cinders floating down from the engine exhaust, so be prepared to be a little dirty after. Excellent service from the conductors and service staff, everyone was super friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend taking the trip.

Red Clay State Historic Park

Red Clay State Park is a true hidden gem, offering a perfect blend of history, natural beauty, and educational Red Clay State Park is an incredible destination that offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, historical significance, and educational experiences. The park’s grounds are truly remarkable, providing visitors with breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. The trails are well-maintained, making them ideal for a range of activities, from hiking to birdwatching. As we explored, we were impressed by the lush surroundings and the overall cleanliness of the park, which enhanced the entire experience. One of the highlights of our visit was the gift shop, which was absolutely fantastic. It offered a wide variety of locally inspired items, from unique souvenirs to educational materials. We spent some time browsing and left with a few treasures that reflected the park’s history and the region’s culture. The staff at Red Clay State Park was another standout feature. They were not only knowledgeable but also extremely friendly and welcoming. Every interaction we had, whether with a ranger or at the front desk, was positive and helpful. We also had the chance to participate in one of the ranger-led classes, which was a memorable experience. The class took place in the range and was both educational and hands-on, offering valuable insights into the park’s history and the surrounding landscape. The ranger’s expertise made the session engaging, and we left with a deeper appreciation for the area. Overall, Red Clay State Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, history buffs, and anyone looking for a peaceful retreat. The combination of well-maintained trails, informative classes, and a wonderful staff makes it an exceptional place to spend a day or even an entire weekend. I highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area!

It was a cute small park. The woman in the gift shop was not so knowledgeable. It was a cute stop to see some history. We missed out on the auditorium due to no signs. Location of things we're not well labeled. We took our dogs and stayed under the shade of the trees since it was hot! They had history information on plaques along the way, the flame and blue hole were great! We saw a deer right outside the park. The kids loved the buildings.
Cinstinna K — Google review
This state park was very informative about our Cherokee Indians that tells about trail of tears. There is a museum inside the visitor center . They have a gift store too. Their are walking trails on the grounds that have information about the grounds. A very nice state park
Sharon C — Google review
It's a great little Park. Nice visitor center with some facilities. Some of the walking trails are a bit uneven but most of them are paved. Probably not the right park for an adventure seeker but if you've got young kids or elderly in the group, it's a great place to stop for an hour or two.
Jake S — Google review
Absolutely loved visiting here. It felt like being on sacred ground. The park is beautiful and easy to walk, even for someone with limited mobility like me.
Ouiser — Google review
This is a great Tennessee state park. It’s free to get in, and the history we received on the Cherokee nation was as well acclaimed. To see the beautiful trails surrounding the area of red clay state park was very nice!
Daniel N — Google review
My visit to Red Clay State Historic Park was an unforgettable experience! The peacefulness that surrounded the park today stands in contrast to the tense times of the Cherokee council meetings held here in the 1830s, just before the Trail of Tears. The Blue Hole Spring, with its clear, cool water, was especially significant, serving as a vital water source and a sacred spot for the Cherokee people. Before heading into the park, I highly suggest stopping by the visitor center to learn the story behind these sacred grounds. Be sure to stop at their auditorium to watch the powerful ‘We Are Still Here’ documentary (only 20 mins long). Don’t miss the AI exhibit where you can meet Rebekah Catcher, a young Cherokee girl who was the last to walk the Trail of Tears. The park is impeccably maintained, with spotless bathrooms and friendly rangers visible throughout. It’s a beautiful, meaningful visit that honors history while offering tranquility.
Yhaimar B — Google review
This is a wonderful park with a lot of educational value regarding the Trail of Tears and the Cherokee people from Tennessee. A lot of the park is mowed and trimmed but there are also some wild nature trails. Great location for school field trips! We visited last on a weekday morning with family from out of town and were surprised to find the park office, museum and gift shop closed until 1pm, so they didn’t get to experience that, unfortunately. Next time we will try to call ahead.

We did the middle Ocoee Trip. We had a group of 8 people in two boats. Our guides, Ace and Cullen, were awesome. This is a highly recommended activity. I strongly suggest going with this company. From Registration, training session, bus ride and the whitewater experience, it was GREAT.

Melody answered the phone when I called for the reservation and each time after, she was extremely kind and informative! Our raft guide was Henry, I PROMISE YOU HES THE BEST GUIDE THERE. He knew the river well and did extremely cool tricks with the raft. He was also very funny and personable which added even more to the experience. While I almost felt like I would died a couple of times Henry kept us very aware of when to do what, so even with our crazy tricks none of us fell out at all.

This was my first time whitewater rafting, and I can 100% say that I loved it! The staff there were super welcoming and friendly, and they all had a light-hearted, upbeat attitude, and definitely made the whole experience that much better! After a scenic drive to the dam where the rafting starts, we met our guide and learned our commands, and this began our trip down the river. I won't spoil the trip, because I definitely think you should do it yourself, but just know that it is definitely worth it. Also, quick shout out to some of our guides, TC Lee, Jack, and Hannah!

My thirteen year old son described this as “one of the best experiences of his life”. We decided to do a father son rafting trip after finding a heck of a deal on Groupon. We arrived at 10:30 for the 11am middle river trip. The facility was clean and organized and the staff was super friendly. You can leave your keys and phone with them, which felt safe. There were clear instructions on how to be safe on the water and were separated into groups. The drive on the bus was fun and the time it took to get unloaded and on the river was impressive. These guys run a well oiled machine. The trip itself was so much fun and I won’t review it so that I don’t take away some of the adventure. It was safe, a good amount of time, and worth every penny. You will get wet, like within the first two minutes. I also highly recommend leaving your phone, camera and anything else valuable back at the lodge or in your car. It’s very clear within few minutes that there’s a good possibility you’ll be swimming. A photographer will get some great photos that you can purchase at the end of your trip. Do yourself a favor and, buy the photos. This trip will be something my son and I talk about the rest of our lives. We’ve even decided to make this a yearly trip and we can’t thank the folks at High Country Adventures for the wonderful experience. Shout out to our guide Ricky, thanks for pulling me back in my friend!

We took a family of five and had a fantastic experience on the middle part of the river. Sydney was our guide and we could not have asked for a better person to take us down the River. She was kind, respectful, and extremely knowledgeable. I trusted her to keep our family safe, but also to give us a great time together.

Our two daughters ages 12 and 14 went down this river for the first time, Mr. Pink made sure to keep us safe and kept the fun rolling. We will be back agian! Our daughters haven't stopped talking about how much fun they had. They are ready for some Class Five with Pink!

We did not stay at the campground, but we went on the river rafting trip. We did a half day trip and it was fantastic!. We had a group of four people. Our ages range from 21 to 62 and we had a fantastic time. The rapids were just enough for us. It was exciting, but we felt very safe with our guide. Highly recommend this tour. Would definitely travel with them again.

Five stars for the incredible white water rafting trip we just had! A special thank you to our guide, Trey. He was the absolute best! He struck the perfect balance between teaching us how to be safe and encouraging us to have the most fun. He was super motivating and made communication so smooth and easy, even when we were going through the rapids. He was truly awesome and made our adventure a huge success. Highly recommend!

If you’re wondering whether to go on this adventure — this is your 100% sign that you absolutely should! Our day with Adventures Unlimited turned out to be the highlight of the summer. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and excited. Everything was so well-organized — from check-in to the safety briefing — that even our first-timers felt confident and ready to go. Once we hit the water, the real fun began! The guides were amazing — friendly, knowledgeable, and hilarious. They knew exactly how to keep everyone safe while making the ride thrilling and full of laughter. The scenery along the river was absolutely breathtaking, and there were moments when we couldn’t stop smiling (and maybe screaming a little from the waves!). By the end of the trip, our whole group was soaked, happy, and already talking about when we could do it again. It wasn’t just an activity — it was an experience that brought us together, challenged us a bit, and left us with incredible memories. If you’re looking for an unforgettable outdoor adventure, don’t hesitate — go with Adventures Unlimited! You’ll have the time of your life.

We went twice this summer with Adventures Unlimited rafting. I will say that I do not plan to use a different rafting company at this time. I highly recommend Joe as a guide, he was quite entertaining but also cared about our safety. They have a great set up to truly hang out. They have a sand volleyball court, nice showers and bathrooms, camp site, and they have a restaurant that is super cool right on sight. You could go on a half day and truly make a full day just hanging out there.

Adventures Unlimited did not disappoint! All around great experience, from camping to rafting, we had the best time!! Great environment and great people! Our guide Andrew, was a BEAST! He definitely belongs on the river! He made our rafting experience fun and informative!! We will definitely be back, next time the fur babies will be tagging along!!

My first time whitewater rafting- started out nervous but I had a blast, largely due to our experienced rafting guide, Trey. He assured us he could kick it up a notch or tip the raft over if we wanted but also assured us of safety measures to take the edge off the nerves. He gave us a great ride and we are eager to come back next season with family!

What a EXCELLENT time! Coming from Georgia, we chose the Ocoee River based on the exciting level being a little higher. What a TREAT! Ray, our guide, did a wonderful job keeping us safe. The rapids were really fun! We hope to go back for the FULL day tour next summer! The check in was easy! The facilities were clean and organized. The guides were all super friendly and professional.

Tour company offering guided white-water-rafting trips down the Ocoee River for guests ages 12 & up.
Our guide was Travis- he was phenomenal! Very well-spoken and definitely knows the water! We had a blast!! If you book, I highly recommend to request Travis as your guide! And definitely recommend this company! We also had a disability child with us and they were able to accommodate her needs! This company is all around great!

We went as a small group from our church in Missouri to see if this would be something we could pull off for youth camp 2026. Four leaders and six youth were on the trip. From the moment I called them, through the reservation process, the online waivers, the moment we showed up to their facility, and all the way down the river they were amazing. They were great to get us the experience we were looking for. Aaron and Dan were our guides and our youth loved them. They were personable, they engaged everyone in the raft, learned our names, and had plenty of fun with us! We will be returning with Cherokee Rafting next summer with all our youth! Thank you! What an awesome time! Ethan, Will and Max were our guides. Couldn’t have had a better crew. High Adventure trip is a must for those that want a lot more excitement. Boats are so much more maneuverable so the guides can really personalize the trip to your excitement level. Our group had the moms that wanted to chill (poor Ethan), four teenage boys (Max) and the two dads and a daughter (most extreme-Will). We even caught a kayaker in our boat! The guides were completely professional at all times and always concerned with our safety. The rafting was a blast. Stopped at a few places along the route for snacks and some swimming and jumping from the rocks into the river. This is a must do trip with an awesome company. Saw many rafts filled with guests on the river and they all floated by with envy of our High Adventure white water trip. No more beach trips for us. We will be back!

We've been rafting with Cherokee Rafting for more than 20 years, it's always a great time! Still a family owned business, they take pride in making every trip unique. Their guides give the absolute BEST ride on the river!

I owe these guys a great review. We dragged two teenagers with us who are always negative about their mom’s big ideas. If this day had gone bad, I would be hearing about it for the rest of my life! We booked our raft trip last minute and headed to Tennessee. A big storm hit us as soon as we arrived at the river. 😳 But, our guide, Nikki was calm and kept getting us prepared. My 13yo son did not want to do this and kept repeating it as we loaded the boat in the water. But, Nikki didn’t even realize that the way she prepared us for each rapid, allowed our son to feel safe and immediately start having fun. I loved seeing his big smile behind me all the way down the river. Our kids had so much fun and were so happy we made them do this. They even said yes when I said we should do this every summer. Thanks for a great day, Nikki!

This was so much fun! Our guide Ryan was fantastic, and our kids enjoyed their guide Hunter! We appreciated the photo taken of the group. We loved the games before heading out. It was all in all a five star day! I'm definitely going to be back and sign up for the day long adventure!!

I had an incredible experience with Outdoor Adventure Rafting! The trip was well-organized, safe, and full of excitement from start to finish. Our guide, John, made the day unforgettable. He was not only friendly and fun but also extremely knowledgeable about the area. John knew exactly where all the best spots were—pointing out cool features along the way and guiding us through the most thrilling drops with confidence. His expertise gave us both adventure and peace of mind, making the trip the perfect mix of excitement and enjoyment. Highly recommend this company, and if you can, definitely ask for John as your guide!

We had an incredible time white water rafting, and Josh made the entire experience unforgettable! His energy was amazing from start to finish—super fun, professional, and clearly experienced. You could tell he genuinely loves what he does, and it made all the difference. Josh kept our group safe while still making it a thrilling adventure. He explained everything clearly, gave us confidence on the water, and kept the vibes high the entire trip. He truly represents the company in the best way possible. If you're booking a rafting trip, ask for Josh—you won’t regret it. Highly recommend!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! We had the wonderful Jon Hall as our guide. He made sure we were very well taken care of and safe as we went down the Ocoee. He was very informative about the local fauna, landforms, and rafting skills. Jon also made sure that my friends knew EXACTLY what to do on the raft (I was the only one in my group who's been rafting before) and made the three hour long experience feel like 45 minutes with how much we were talking and joking. The staff as base camp were also VERY friendly and helpful.

Such a GREAT and FUN adventure. The staff here are so kind and high spirited. They were all so hype and super kind. A big shout out to our boat guide, Ken. He definitely made the experience 10x more entertaining and enjoyable. He took us to the fun parts of the water and made sure we got some good splashes. He offered to let us “ride the bull” and experience a fall off the boat experience on purpose. Great time for sure. Thanks to all the staff and Ken!

We had a great time rafting on the Ocoee River today with Outdoor Adventure Rafting! Our guide was John who led us on a full river rafting trip. He was an excellent guide! The tour guide gave us detailed descriptions of all of the rapids as we approached them and he gave us the choice of how difficult we wanted it to be. So he could adjust the boat to soak us or just easily pop over the rapids. He did a bunch of different things like spinning us in the boat, and showed us many different ways to handle the rapids. He did a good job building trust from the start of the trip and paid attention to each member of our party to make sure they were okay and having a good time. He clearly had the whole river memorized and expertly handled every aspect of the trip. Since we did the full river trip it included a lunch break which was great. There is not room on the boat for water bottles or anything and they would fall out if you did bring them. Since the lunch includes water and other drinks staying hydrated wasn't an issue. Highly recommend and I would do it again!

Amazing adventure! This is the second time we have been white water rafting! Our tour guide Phillip was class 5 amazing! He was knowledgeable but also great with keeping spirits up and building the bond between the boat. This company does well to create a fun and friendly environment while also ensuring all safety is a priority. We will be back and ready to take on the Olympia again! We loved the full day adventure!

I could not have had a more perfect first time rafting experience. Guide Jon Hall provided a perfect blend of humor to ease our nerves and professionalism so we understood our safety is first priority. He took great care with briefings and instructions and kept us entertained from the moment we met him. He created a magic and thrilling experience with intentional peaks and valleys. The campus was clean and organized and the staff was friendly and helpful. I am excited to book another trip!

Don’t even search for any other rafting companies on the Ocoee because OAR is hands down the best!!! Our guide was Wesley and he was great! We were always provided thorough instructions on safety and communication and they gave us ample opportunities to go for more difficult routes and what to expect. The facilities at the outpost were also clean and the staff onsite was so friendly and inviting. You could tell that all of the guides had a special bond and all enjoyed working with each other. We did the full (upper and middle section) and it did not disappoint. I will absolutely be returning soon and will request Wesley as my tour guide. Thank you OAR for an amazing first time rafting!

Mayfield Dairy

We recently visited the Mayfield Dairy Visitor Center in Athens, TN, and were impressed by the experience, even though we couldn’t participate in the guided tour, which is offered only during the weekdays. The Visitor Center is charming, with a wide variety of Mayfield-themed merchandise, from hats to t-shirts and even adorable tote bags. The nostalgic displays and informative signage about the dairy’s history and ice cream production process give great insights into the scale of their operations. The highlight of our visit was definitely the ice cream! We ordered the “Pirate’s Treasure” flavor from the ice cream bar, and it was hands down the creamiest ice cream we’ve ever had. The blend of flavors was unique and delicious—a real treat! The extensive list of flavors displayed at the ice cream bar offers something for everyone, making it tough to choose just one. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They happily answered all our questions about the manufacturing facility and its processes. You can tell they take great pride in their work, and that enthusiasm made the visit even more enjoyable. If you're in the area, definitely make a stop here, and if you visit on a weekday, don't miss the tour! Plus, you’ll get a free scoop of ice cream with your tour ticket—what could be better?

Great tour. Please make time to visit this location for a very educational tour that ends with everyone's favorite icecream at the end. I enjoyed every minute including the gift shop. Mayfield Icecream is my grandmother's favorite.

Little bit boring for me. But I was glad the 11 y.o. enjoyed it. It's more like a place where a school bus would take children on a field trip. I think it is perfect for the school to do for the children. The ice cream at the end was the best part for me besides knowing Jr. Got to check it out.

We were here several years ago, took the tour, ate some ice cream and had a blast! This trip we arrived around 2:30 which was a little late to take the tour since they were in the process of starting the shut down of the production lines. We enjoyed the ice cream and gift shop. Another local attraction we recommend!!

Took the Mayfield tour (about 45 minutes) — fun and informative! We saw the factory where they make and fill milk jugs, plus the ice cream line. All indoors, so great rain or shine. No photos allowed inside, but you do have e to wear hair nets. Ended with a cute gift shop and yummy ice cream.

Every time we drive through, we always stop by mayfields and get ice cream. Their ice cream is always fresh and delicious. I would recommend the butter pecan ice cream. It is my favorite flavor. We have also taken the tour of the plant and it is very interesting. They also have very reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend stopping by and doing the tour.

Awesome place to stop and take a break. A little ways off the interstate but worth it. A couple of large areas for an RV to park also. Employees were friendly and helpful.
Darrin M — Google review
Nice enough staff and I’m sure a great dairy but as a truck driver if you come here bringing anything other than raw milk plan on sitting most of the day while everyone before you and after you comes and goes. Appointments at 7am for those of us that are not a regular local milk hauler should be changed to the afternoon. No need for me to come here to check in and then take a several hour break sitting in the parking lot. Let me sit at the truck stop where I least have access to proper facilities.

Fort Mountain State Park is a stunning destination located just 18 miles north of Ellijay, Georgia. This expansive park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including camping and hiking trails that wind through beautiful landscapes. One of its most intriguing features is an ancient rock wall stretching 855 feet long, which adds a touch of history to your adventure.
The maps were extremely helpful with difficulty levels on the back. Made it a great place to go with all ages from 9-74 (in our group). It was absolutely beautiful and the public restrooms were cleaner than in any other state park I've been to. They had a lovely family friendly area where you could go swimming with a nice easy hiking trail not to mention it's only a $5 fee per car! Just look at these views!

Camped here 2 nights. We chose site 31. Large and level and beside bath house and bear safe garbage cans. We are in a roof top tent so being close to the restroom and showers is always a plus. Also liked the fact they had a sink there to clean up our dishes. Lots of signs and warnings for bear but we didn’t see any. Was nice to have garbage cans next to us to dispose of anything food related. Bath house also had a washer/dryer and I did use those also. I think $3.25 each and quarters only. No change machine so bring your quuarters. Both machines were excellent. Brought our e-bikes and enjoyed riding the trails and over to the fire tower/overlook. When we were there I would say the campground was maybe 20% capacity. It was perfect. Quiet and not many people. Camp store sells wood/ice and has the cutest apparel! Would definitely camp here again!
Rhonda A — Google review
We have not camped here but we did drive through the park to check it out. Definitely going back to camp. The Fall foliage was beautiful even though it wasn't peak. Lots of places to grill and picnic. Be Bear Aware though. We did not see a bear but the signs are posted and all of the trash cans are bear proof. Nice little lake to fish in and also a beach to swim in the warmer months.

Fort Mountain State Park is an absolutely beautiful place to explore! From the moment we walked into the Visitor Center, we were welcomed with a warm smile. The staff was helpful, the atmosphere was inviting, and the restrooms were clean — a major plus-plus in my book! 🚻✨ 🥾 Fun Fact: Fort Mountain is named after an ancient 855-foot rock wall found near the summit — a mystery that historians are still debating today! 🧱🤔 🥾 Trail Notes: The trails are stunning but definitely not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Expect rocks, roots, incline, and uneven terrain depending on the path you choose. If you love a little challenge, you’ll enjoy every step! 💪🏾🌲 🌊 Another fun fact: The lake loop offers peaceful views all around the water — perfect for photos, even if the pictures don’t give the beauty justice. 📸💜 Overall, this park is a must-visit for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone who enjoys God’s beautiful creation on full display. I highly recommend it and would absolutely return! 🙌🏾✨

As a solo female hiker felt very safe here, even on the more isolated trails. I took the five mile hike (around the lake, up to one of the overlooks, and winding down the Gahuti trail and finishing at the big rock nature walk.) colors were beautiful, great place to reflect and challenge yourself just a bit (some steep inclines). Checked out the stone wall and tower as well - fascinating lore and the most breathtaking view.

Beautiful park. Hiking trails very nice. None of the camping spots had cell service. You had to go to the visitor center/ check-in office to have service.
Bryce P — Google review
My parents were there camping and I went to spend the night after a job in Blue Ridge so we could kayak the next day. The camp ground is awesome and clean. The lake is small, but it was fun. Especially at first when the fog was so thick we could see very far. There is a great 1 mile trail around the lake and a nice beach for swimmers.

Stayed in site 47, loved the views and great playground for the kids. Park is well loved, lots of wildlife to see. Do bring your bear spray, we had bears in our camp every day. DONT FEED THE BEARS! They will have to be euthanized.

The Lost Sea Adventure

Mentioned on

Nature & Wildlife Tours
Lost Sea Adventure is a cave tour and boat trip attraction that offers visitors an underground lake to explore. The cave network is well-maintained and the guides are knowledgeable about the formations, making for an interesting experience. The walk up is not too bad and the tour offers stops for breathers, which makes it more comfortable for those who are not used to walking long distances. The boat ride is also very cool and something not often seen in tourist attractions.
Don’t skip this tour! We drove from Chattanooga to Sweetwater for The Lost Sea Adventure and we do not have any regrets. (We did take our two children that are ages 8 and 12.) Rylan, our tour guide, was incredible. He was humorous and engaging with our group. This tour is slightly fast pace, but that is noted at the beginning of the tour as well as the steep downhill & uphill walk. They do have breaks on the way back up. We truly enjoyed learning the history of the cavern throughout the tour. Once you arrive to the lake, you are given plenty of time to view and take pictures. The lake is beautiful with very active rainbow trout swimming around your boat. Again, the way back up is steep in some areas but not challenging by any means. Don’t skip the tour! (I’m not a photographer.)
Samantha B — Google review
This is a 'cute' building. It feels very inviting to enter, and all of the staff are very pleasant. It's clean and has a lot of nice things to buy. The cave itself is nice and the underground lake is absolutely gorgeous and the highlight of the place. That being said, our guide walked very fast and that did put somewhat of a damper on our enjoyment of the tour. Also, we were not expecting how much walking uphill there was so if that is a problem for you, you may want to reconsider visiting this cave.
Just J — Google review
Neat adventure with good staff! Maddox was my tour guide, he could do commercials, but Logan was boat tour guide. Both of them were well versed and able to add some jokes in for fun. Good job guys! Gift shop staff were friendly and helpful as well. Pics not same as in person! Appreciate overall experience 🌻

This. Was. Incredible. A huge shout out to Lillian for guiding us and teaching us all about this amazing chunk of history!! The cave was walkable and areas to sit if you need to. The hardest part was walking back up the steeper incline from the boat ride - but it was so worth it!! So very interesting to learn about the history and the think that people discovered that and explored it before it was made walkable and safer, with nothing but an oil lamp!!

This is literally a hidden treasure. It was about a 2 hour drive for us, but really glad we went. It was very crowded so glad we had purchased our tickets online. Our guide was very knowledgeable, but a fast talker. It is definitely a hike and you are warned when purchasing tickets and the hike to the lake was a lot. I have knee problems and definitely felt it after, but so glad I made it. The boat ride in the lake was really cool. Definitely worth the ride to Saltwater, Tennessee.
Chistine — Google review
Super cool place to visit. Everyone should experience this once in their lifetime. The guide told us some very interesting stories about the caves history. Be prepared for an uphill walk back out of the cave. This place is well kept and very historical. You should check out this place and check it off you bucket list!

While planning my trip using ChatGPT, this gem was suggested as one of our stopping points. I didn’t see a lot of roadside signs on the interstate or even in town (which is a destination must), so I’m so glad it was recommended. The whole experience was amazing. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and provided great insight to the history of the cave and lake. The check-in host took the time to ensure that each guest was physically capable for the walking tour as it was steep, slippery, uneven and at times, strenuous. We are two ladies between 60-90 years old so we took our time and easily managed the terrain. We thoroughly enjoyed it! We went in the off season and it was still really busy, so recommendations are highly suggested.
Christine C — Google review
If youve never experienced a cave experience. This is it. If you have curly to wavy hair and you plan on straightening it that day, dont. Lol its humid in the cave. It's a mixture of cool air and humidity. But the experience alone is really neat. They also have other places to explore. They have a blown glass shop, a general store, and a little gift shop. Looks like they may be putting in a restaurant.

Call to check schedule . We almost drove out on a weekday that they are closed on. Anyway, we arrived and immediately was happy to see many friendly animals welcoming us! A few ducks and a donkey:) Went into the barn and was really excited to see the variety of animals! The owner was busy cutting food so we could all feed the animals She was super friendly and was working hard to keep everyone happy. We made our way to all the animals inside and out and fell in love with all them. She had a dog with a noticeable disability but you would never know it because he was so happy and in a loving place ! I have the utmost respect for all they do here for these animals . It was amazing if you love ( as we do) animals you MUST go.

Kids had a blast! Pigs, chickens, ducks running around, puppies, baby goats, horses and donkeys. Run by Donations only, people were so welcoming, gave kids apple slices, Zucchini, carrots etc to feed animals. We spent roughly an hour here, kids would have stayed all day. 7$ per person Donation includes food for you to feed animals. Very nice day.

What an awesome place that offers a unique experience. We visited Build an Ark while staying at the Coosawattee River Resort during our annual family vacation. My daughter enjoyed feeding all the different animals. She was able to feed more animals here than she has ever been able to at any petting zoo type of place. It’s truly a great thing what this place is doing for the animals in their care. The staff is very friendly and it’s obvious they’re passionate about the work they’re doing. I definitely recommend visiting!

For our suburban family, this was a very unique opportunity to get up and close with many farm animals. We were visiting the lake and mountains for our annual vacation and came across this place in things to do in nearby towns. Well worth the drive for us. We made a donation and were given a good sized bucket of food to feed to the animals. Some were freely roaming the farm.I especially loved the piggy. Everyone made a great memory that afternoon. Please read the history and building of the Ark if you visit.

This is a wonderful place to bring your kids and visit for all animal lovers. There are variety of animals that you can pet and feed. To name a few, piggies, donkeys, horses, goats etc. This is a rescue place and they take care of old animals that nobody wants anymore. By visiting here, you help them and animals feel loved.

Close encounters with variety of different animals. You can feed and pet all of the animals there. The ostrich is very sweet and my daughter fell in love with the baby lamb and the blind donkey. There is no cost but donations are greatly appreciated. It is a farm like setting so be prepared to be outdoors or in muddy conditions depending on weather.

Had an amazing trip on the middle river with Gracie Lee as our guide. She is energetic, fun, knowledgeable, and has such a love and passion for being a guide! We had an awesome time rafting with RaftOne! Our guide Kaleb did an incredible job making our kids’ first rafting trip safe, fun, and exciting. He kept the whole family entertained and educated us about the river while giving us confidence on the water. We did the upper and middle sections and they did not disappoint. The lunch provided was great, and the facilities were clean and well-kept. Highly recommend RaftOne—and especially Kaleb—for an unforgettable adventure!

This was our second time coming here. We did the full rafting (upper and middle) package. Our guide Kitten was amazing! He was very knowledgeable about the area. We had a history lesson and rafting lesson in the form of a stand up comedy. There are a lot of places around that will take you rafting, but I promise you if you want to have a blast, chose Raft1!!! These folks are super passionate about what they do, and they all are hilarious. That’s what sets them above the rest.

Had an absolute blast! This was my first time rafting. Caleb was our guide and he is a really nice person and also very knowledgeable. We had so much fun! Thanks Caleb, we really enjoyed our time. You're awesome!

Our family had a fantastic experience rafting the middle Ocoee river with Raft1. The number of rafters in our time slot was small (4 rafts), making the experience more personal. Our guide, Toast, tailored the experience to our level of adventure (high adventure) which we appreciated greatly! The guides added some additional activities along the way to include a water slide and waterfall hike mid trip, again adding to the unique experience that sets Raft1 apart from the other companies. Its outpost location is just upriver from the put-in making the shuttle ride brief. The souvenir t-shirt selection and Canopy Cafe provided quality options; the pizza was very tasty and made to order post-trip. I highly recommend using Raft1 for your Ocoee Rafting adventure.

Had a great time! Our guides Sage and Taylor were pros and talked us through the process to make sure we had it. Someone in our group got overwhelmed half way through and didn’t want to continue, and they were easily able to go back to the lookout and watch us. The only difference between this and other zip line places is that here you have to use your hand to stop yourself on these lines. It’s also not crazy high off of the ground for less adventurous people. 8/10 would recommend

Mercier Orchards is a charming 300-acre orchard established in 1943, offering a variety of pick-your-own seasonal fruits. In addition to apple picking, visitors can indulge in the farm cafe's delectable breakfast and lunch options, including their famous fried pies and fresh apple cider donuts. The orchard provides a delightful experience for all ages, combining agricultural heritage with Blue Ridge's rich history.
Mercier Orchards is truly an apple wonderland! You’ll find countless varieties of apples, each fresh and delicious. They also sell the most amazing apple donuts — soft, and absolutely irresistible. The store is full of delightful local products like sauces, jams, and charming souvenirs to take home. During apple season, you can even pick your own apples — a beautiful and fun experience to share with your family. With plenty of parking, gorgeous scenery, and a warm, family-friendly atmosphere, Mercier Orchards is the perfect place to spend the day. Definitely a must-visit spot! 🍏✨

Absolutely loved Mercier Orchards! It’s a beautiful and wonderful family friendly Orchard. The store was stocked with so many things and it included their bakery! The baked goods and apple cider were amazing! I also loved the option to pick your own apples! Such a neat experience!

Mercier Orchards is a beautiful place. It is apple festival time of year in October so it was extremely busy and crowded, but it didn't stop me from getting their apple cider donuts, apple butter, and apple taffy. It was all worth it! Those donuts are delicious with some apple butter on top. It's a must stop to enjoy the scenery!

My husband and I visited Mericer Orchard for the first time and it is a must do in the area! We explored the shop which is very neat with lots to offer. We then got some goodies from the bakery including some of their hand pies, muffin, and apple fritter. All of these were delicious and if you visit you absolutely need to check out the bakery. We then went on a tractor tour and our tour guide was super kind and knowledgeable. You can get some really neat views from this tour. We ended our visit with some wine and cider tasting. If you enjoy hard cider, this is another thing you shouldn't miss! They offer and sell many delicious ciders. We will be back when in the area again.

Very crowded orchard! The parking situation was kind of a mess. We paid $30 for 2 of us to go apple picking which I didn’t think was bad. We went to an orchard last year in Elijay and it was way more expensive so we didn’t end up going apple picking. I will say the orchard was pretty heavily picked through but we still left with so many apples! The experience was fun and we enjoyed some apples as we walked through the trees. We stopped in the store and got a donut and a fried pie before hand. Total chaos in the store. I feel like they need a better set up for getting people through the store. The line for the bakery was so long and was kind of frustrating when we couldn’t pay there. My husband enjoyed his fried pie and my donut was pretty good but I felt lacked the apple cider flavor. The apple cider itself was really good! My husband got a sparkling cider too which was really good! Overall I would come back to this orchard.

Beautiful orchards & fun experience picking apples. The store is huge with lots of variety, but we went during (apparently) peak season and it was PACKED. Would have loved to have been able to walk around the store and shop but the crowd was intense. Lines moved decently fast but wrapped into multiple rooms. Definitely a beautiful spot and would love to visit again in the spring!

Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, Georgia is one of the most scenic places to visit in North Georgia. The hayride through the orchard and the apple picking experience are truly memorable and perfect for families. They grow so many different varieties of apples, and it’s always fun to try something new each season. One of the best parts is their country store—everything is fresh and delicious. My absolute favorite treat is their fried pies, especially the coconut pie, which is worth the two-hour drive on its own. If you’re looking for a family-friendly day trip or authentic apple orchard experience in Blue Ridge, Mercier’s is the place to go!

I had an amazing visit to Mercier Orchards! The fruit-picking experience was so much fun, and the views are absolutely beautiful. The bakery treats, especially the fresh donuts, were delicious. Plenty of activities for kids and adults alike.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

Scenic Railroads
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is a restored heritage train that offers a 4-hour, 26-mile round-trip ride through the Appalachian foothills, along the Toccoa River, and through the Chattahoochee National Forest. The railway's tracks date back to the late 1800s and were originally used for mining and timber industries. After being purchased in the early 1900s, it operated as the Louisville & Nashville railroad until ceasing operations in 1987.
What an incredible experience and great way to make beautiful memories with your family. Spent the day in Blue Ridge and enjoyed the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway immensely with my parents and wife. Located about 2 hours away metro Atlanta this is a gem of Georgia with small city old rustic charm and beauty. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway had a 2 hour ride and 4 hour ride (which I believe is the 2 hour ride with a 2 hour town exploration component added on). We opted for the 2 hour scenic railway and chose the indoor cabin but found that both the outdoor seating area and indoor cabins were full on a Tuesday afternoon so I can't say which one is more popular and/or better. The ride from the indoor cabin itself was peaceful, beautiful, and scenic. Riders get views of both the mountain side and river side (Toccoa River) as the guide asks guests to switch sides once the half way point destination is reached so you can enjoy the other side of train on the way back to Blue Ridge. There is a nice concession stand as well as a bar that serves mimosas. We enjoyed the concession stand area and bought a few souvenirs to remember the trip by. 5 solid stars for Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and two huge thumbs up! Adventure is out there! Thank you to the staff and crew!

Loved this adventure today in car 114! It was beautiful scenery. Our tour guide was cool, he properly introduced himself, but of course I can’t recall his name (I’m sorry.) I was able to sit next to some good peeps and ‘Hawk Eye Betty’ was even quick enough to spot us a deer! I will say they properly say to arrive 45min early to pick up your ticket and it was spot on! Even thought the line was long, it didn’t take long to get the ticket from the prepaid ticket window. I deducted a star due to web link to see parking was “not found.” Thankfully I found a lot to park in nearby, but the info is not marked well. They caution you to be careful because some parking is limited to 3 hrs, so I could not tell if I was fixing to waste $10 to park. I was fortunate enough to have a couple walk up that used the lot yesterday and was able to confirm it was all day parking. I have tried to save the parking info, so maybe I can request that the web link be fixed to show you parking options and to put a sign on/near the parking kiosk that it is day parking, but I am going to include info in pics. The lot I used which was great is right by tracks and stores: Blue Ridge Bird Seed Company and M. Main Farmhouse market. The train ride is worth it in the open car! It was cold today and it was very tolerable with appropriate attire.

We and others were a bit disappointed to learn that the train does not go up the mountain or through any valleys. In fact, for the majority of the ride, one side of the train has nothing to look at because there is a berm right up to the rail. The other side has a view of a small river the majority of the ride. It is a very pretty view, but a lot of it is more about seeing nice homes along the river than seeing fall foliage. Also, for what it's worth, the train only goes 10 mph. It's a 26-mile round trip ride on flat ground. No hills. We rode the Premier car, and it was comfortable. The attendant was nice. The town surrounding the train station is very charming. A strip full of restaurants and shops. I will be back to experience all of that. All in all, the train experience was a little underwhelming for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our trip on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway was absolutely incredible! We booked Coach Car C for the 2-hour ride, and it was such a perfect choice. Sitting in the open cart added a whole new level to the experience—the crisp fall air, the colorful leaves, and the peaceful sounds of the train made it unforgettable. The views along the route were stunning, and stopping at the Georgia/Tennessee border was such a neat highlight! It’s the perfect outing for anyone wanting to soak in some fall beauty and small-town charm. Highly recommend! 🚂🍁

I visited the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway with my service dog Toothless. He has never experienced a train, so it was a training day for him. Lots of new sounds (many of them scary), steep stairs to board (handicap lift available), so many new smells, and crowed with lots of new people! He did a fantastic job learning and listening. The staff from check in to helping me find my lost key fob was fantastic! Jeff was our guide for the Express Ride and had some good "dad jokes" and a fish story!. The weather was crisp and the fall colors on full display! Such an amazing experience and history of this rail line! We will definitely be back!

We opted for the 2 hr open coach tour...short & a relaxing afternoon ride. Bit early for foliage, prefer the ride out this time of year, not much to see on return. Note you change seats on return so you experience both sides. Narrator Chip did a wonderful job. Arrive early for good seats as train is popular.

My Husband and I got to mark an experience off of our bucket list! We went on the 4 hour ride on Halloween 🎃 day! All the workers were dressed up. The leaves and scenery was so beautiful. The only downside was that Cooper Hill Tenn and MaCaysville Ga were extremely crowded and the map we received was hard to navigate!
Carla C — Google review
I thought the ride was going to be too cold in the open car, but the train didn’t go fast and the weather was perfect. Our car guide, Jeff, was super informative and even funny at times😃. He was full of knowledge in both history and local stories. I also loved that passengers changed sides on the return trip so everyone could experience all of the views.

Fields of the Wood is a religious theme park in Murray, NC that features enormous monuments including a 30-foot-tall Bible. Visitors can also explore Prayer Mountain for a spiritual awakening experience. The attraction is popular among faithful and obedient believers who seek to connect with God. While some may have difficulty climbing up the steps due to physical limitations, it remains an awesome sightseeing destination worth exploring on one's own.
This place is amazing and definitely off the charts. It's our favorite place so far. It literally has the largest 10 Commandments covering a mountain side. It also has 3 crosses representing the death of Jesus and today we witnessed a re-telling of Jesus' Resurrection by seeing a replica of the empty tomb where Jesus was laid. It was amazing. It's fun and free. So you can go there and just reflect on what God has done for you. My family and I are going to go back as often as we can.

The Field of the Woods in Murphy, North Carolina is an extraordinary landmark and well worth a visit. It features the world’s largest copy of the Ten Commandments, set into the mountainside, creating a striking and memorable sight. The grounds are thoughtfully maintained, offering both a peaceful atmosphere and a meaningful experience. A unique destination that combines natural beauty with cultural and spiritual significance.

Definitely feel the peace that surpasses all understanding walking through here. I wish I lived near to be a part of all the extra activities that happen. Truly. Soon as I got up to the gift store I'm like I dreamt about this place. But do not remember when. It truly is a Glory to God the beauty that surrounds us. All to Him!

Can't highly recommend this place enough! Great for a solo trip or pack up the whole family! You can go hike the trails or just pack a lunch and enjoy the picnic area. Make sure to wear your good tennis shoes otherwise you can drive up to the topside of both the Prayer Mountain and up the to Nations Cross passing the Commandments on the way.

Bald River Falls

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
This scenic, 90-foot waterfall is a popular destination for nature observation & photography.
Beautiful and very nice. The roads in and out of the falls are pristine brand new there is one switchback that's slightly technical halfway to the falls but take your time and I'm sure you'll be able to manage if you're on a motorcycle. The falls are absolutely breathtaking. Check out or channels @2wheelwhit for more videos and photos.
Bryan W — Google review
A most beautiful waterfalls right off the road! Parking is a little tough, but you can view the waterfalls from the road and see it beautifully. They have a wonderful place there to walk and stroll and look at the falls taking your time. But this is a wonderful place for those who would like to see a waterfalls but can no longer hike! I took a group of ladies there who have trouble walking, and they were delighted to see the beautiful falls and not have to hike in to see a falls. It’s close enough to Tellico to find a neat place to eat in the community! This was my second time being there and I hope I get to go again!
Carol — Google review
Definitely put this on your list of places to see! It's a fairly short but scenic drive from Tellico Plains, albeit on a very narrow road for two way traffic. Once you get there, you can park right beside the falls and see it from the bridge or hike down the rocks to the bottom and get even closer. There's also a nice short 1/8 mile hike to get to the top which offers an excellent view as well.
Bear — Google review
A wonderful place to spend the afternoon with family. The new bridge and viewing area is fantastic. Plenty of room with excellent views and safe from traffic. Great family photo spot with the falls in the background. You can venture down a steep rocky path and go in the water. It's cold and the spray is enjoyable on a hot day. It's really a sight to see from any angle. It can be crowded at times but it's still enjoyable. The one drawback is the popularity far outpaces the amount of parking available. At times inconsiderate people will just leave their car in the road and take pictures. It creates a big traffic mess. You can't escape rude people but it is what it is. The other drawback is no porta pottys and no bathrooms close by at all. None of this is a big issue if you prepare ahead of a visit. It's so worth a stop. Really a beutiful peaceful spot in Cherokee National Forest. All your stress will wash away walking in the water at the foot of the falls. It's especially enjoyable after a big rain. Just bring some patience and come experience a natural beauty.
John G — Google review
Beautiful Falls! There are two sections, an upper and a lower falls. There is more parking and a restroom at the upper falls. Walking down to the lower is not that far however it can be a hike for some going back since it would be up hill.
Walter B — Google review
Bald River Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls in the Cherokee national forest. The new pedestrian area on the recently completed bridge allows cars to continue moving and safety for amazing photo opportunities!
Sue U — Google review
Beautiful falls right next to the road. You can walk down to the base of the falls and take a swim if you like. Warning… don’t get close to the falls while swimming, the current is very strong!
Riley C — Google review
Really nice spot! The waterfall is right off the road so you can even see it from your car if you want to. The drive out to it is beautiful and makes for a great little trip. It can get a bit busy at times, but it’s definitely one of the easiest and most scenic waterfalls to check out without having to hike.

Known for its breathtaking 729-foot waterfall—the tallest east of the Mississippi—this park offers an array of experiences for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Wow, what an incredible hike! The welcome center staff were super friendly and gave us some fantastic advice. The falls were breathtaking, and the weather was just perfect. We even made it all the way to the top and had a delicious meal at the restaurant. The food was amazing, and the views were simply stunning! This place is definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.

This place is truly a refreshing escape into nature. The moment you arrive, the sound of rushing water and the crisp, fresh air instantly create a calming atmosphere. The waterfall is absolutely beautiful as it cascades down the rocks, surrounded by lush greenery and seasonal colors that make the entire view feel alive. Standing near it, you can’t help but pause and soak in the serenity it brings. The trail leading up to the falls is well maintained, marked clearly, and lined with tall trees that offer both shade and stunning views. The gentle breeze, mixed with the earthy scent of the forest, makes the hike enjoyable and relaxing. Even in the fall, the play of golden and red leaves adds a magical touch, making every step of the journey worthwhile. What I love most is how peaceful and energizing this place feels. It’s the perfect spot to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life and simply be present in nature. Whether you’re hiking, taking photos, or just sitting quietly to listen to the water, every visit leaves you refreshed and renewed. This is one of those places you’ll want to return to again and again. 🌿💧🍂🍁😇

Amicalola Falls is absolutely breathtaking! The views are stunning from every angle — whether you’re looking up from the base of the falls or hiking to the top. The sound of the rushing water and the mountain air make it such a peaceful escape. We enjoyed exploring the trails, and the steps to the top are definitely a workout but completely worth it for the view! The park is clean, well-maintained, and perfect for all ages. There are plenty of picnic areas, beautiful overlooks, and friendly staff throughout the park. If you’re planning a visit, take your time to enjoy the scenery — it’s truly one of Georgia’s most beautiful spots. I had not been here since I was a child it’s become a beautiful state park! It was on the way back from a trip so I had to stop and catch a little hike to see the waterfall and I’m glad I did! The guest service in the lodge is outstanding too. Great place to grab some food to refuel afterward.

Absolutely love Amicalola Falls!!! My boyfriend and I come here several times a year. It's peaceful, beautiful, and just a wonderful experience. If you have never been I strongly recommend coming here! It's not too far to the base of the falls. If you're afraid of heights and don't want to climb the stairs, you can drive to the top, don't worry! However you experience it, it's worth the drive to witness this magnificent scenery!

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at this park today. It was $5 to get in and it had a ranger station which was pretty impressive. They had information centers plus they had the souvenir section which was very well stocked. The rangers were very knowledgeable and friendly. There was a ATM on site and purified water stations by the toilets. They also had three Park stamps instead of one hours of collect patches in the wife collects postcards and magnets as well. Drive across the street from the ranger station up that road and come to your first parking space on the right. Then go down the walkway, not the stairs and about .3 mi you'll come across the middle of the falls. Then you get back in your car and go up to the top. Behind the ranger station is access to the Appalachian trail which is kind of neat. I would have liked to have hiked that but I'm too old for that now. The restrooms were very clean and we had a wonderful time.

Harrah's Cherokee Valley River is a casino resort with four casual dining options, a bar and coffee shop, and well-trained staff. The location is wheelchair accessible and popular for family trips. Their food court is hygienic with quick service. They regularly add new slot machines to their collection that offer fun playing experience. The hotel rooms are comfortable with cozy beds and pillows making it an ideal vacation or weekend getaway spot.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino absolutely exceeded my expectations! From the moment we walked in, everything felt clean, welcoming, and exciting. The casino itself is the perfect size — not overwhelming like some of the giant resort casinos, but still packed with plenty of games, great energy, and modern touches that make the whole experience feel top-tier. The slots and table games are well-maintained and offer a great variety, whether you're a casual player or someone who knows their way around a blackjack table. Everything was laid out clearly and the staff was super friendly and helpful, especially when it came to answering questions or explaining how certain games worked. One thing I really appreciated was how clean and well-kept the entire property was — from the gaming floor to the restrooms, to the food court and walkways. It’s clear they take pride in keeping the place looking good and running smoothly. Speaking of food — the options on-site were solid! Great portions, fast service, and reasonably priced for a casino. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a more relaxed meal, there’s something for everyone. We also loved how convenient the parking and access were. You’re not dealing with the chaos of a massive property, which makes everything feel more laid-back and enjoyable. All in all, Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River has the perfect balance of excitement and comfort. We had a blast and will definitely be back! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and friendly casino experience in the area. 🎰🃏💸

My first time at a casino! The beginners luck was pretty sweet. We got a few drinks at Brew Brothers while waiting for check in. They were good for sure. We enjoyed playing the slots and it wasn't too crowded. Ramsay's Kitchen upstairs is absolutely amazing if just for the experiences alone. Make sure to make a reservation and be mindful of the time. Make sure the sun is still up so you can enjoy the view. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Rooms were clean and had pretty views. No complaints here!

MOLD - Terrible customer service. Don’t stay here. When I brought the mold videos down to the front desk to get their opinion chelsea told me that the grout turns darker when it’s wet. After explaining to her that it makes no sense I spoke to the hotel manager Roger Hawkins who also told me that they knew some of the rooms had mold but that they were tested and it’s not an issue. I asked for a copy of the report and I was told it’s not available for guests to see. When I asked what year the rooms were tested I was told that they didn’t know the year it was tested. Funny I took that video on the slot floor and talked to the slot manager alan and he didn’t seem to care or want to help. I showed it to Cee in the players desk and they also didn’t seem to care and told me to talk to the front desk. I told Roger the hotel manager that my throat was a little sore after sleeping in that room for a couple of days. His response was should I call you an EMT. I asked Roger when was the last time he was in the elevators as they were dirty, moldy and smelled. He said the elevators are not his department and he doesn’t go in them but I can speak to housekeeping. I reminded him that every guest that he’s in charge of leaves the front desk and rides those elevators. In fact guests I rode with all made comments about the mold and smell. Roger didn’t care. No service at the bar in the sports book. Sat on the backside of the bar to view the TV’s and was completely ignored by two bartenders for about 30 min. I was playing video poker, watching the games and waiting for service. Of course I watched at least 10 other customer not getting served and they walked away like I did. There’s so much more but I’m tired of typing. Overall I will NEVER stay here again.

First time visitor, overall enjoyable experience. Trenton was the first employee we met. He was the bell hop baggage person we had for check in and check out. Wonderfully nice young man, very professional and polite. We really enjoyed the Brew Bros bar drinks, the food all looked and smelled great, we ate the breakfast one day. Breakfast was very nice. Sunshine, Kimmie, and Dewayne were all very attentive and friendly. Could have easily spent all my time there. Service in the Sport Book Bar was touch and go, depending on which server was there. I thought Wilma was a tad abrupt and chose to get my drinks from the other bar in the casino. Really enjoyed talking with Jaimi. We got our drinks from her the rest of the time. That casino bar had cool decor and lighting and comfortable seating. The non smoking casino is very clean and has fresh cool air pumping throughout. The area was cleaned up regularly and promptly. Lots of games to choose from and not too big you can't find your friends when they wander to other machines or tables. We had lots of fun playing and drinking. The outdoor smoking area was close by and protected from rain, with outdoor heaters, although a bit cramped and small. There's another smoking area up the escalators, across a small lobby and out the door. That one wasn't as crowded, just slightly farther away, much more spacious, with a beautiful view and small walking path with a small waterfall. Both Panda Express and Moe's were very good, and Starbucks as well. The arcade doesn't have skeeball, I'm not much of a gambler, so I was hoping they would. I did go to the bowling alley, and it was very nice. Sixteen lanes, and a few pool tables. The rooms were clean and we didn't have any mold issues and neither did our friends in two different rooms. No bathtub, but a large shower with very nice shampoo conditioner 2 in 1 and body wash. Comfortable beds. If you read all that, I hope you have a great time and win big!

Hotel wise, the property is on the overpriced side of things in my opinion. There are much cheaper options in town. The beds aren't the best we have experienced from other properties, but they are ok for 1 - 3 nights. Getting a comp stay obviously makes the value immensely better. If they are free the rooms are great. So stay when it doesn't cost you anything. The real attraction for us is the casino anyhow. We love that it's smoke free. Whole we don't see every game that people pay on YouTube there, it's still a pretty great selection that has something for everyone. That's probably why they keep offering us free rooms LOLz. If you're just coming for the casino, then I highly recommend it. We drive up from Atlanta about once a month to play here. Sometimes just for the day, other times for a couple days at a time. Always fun for us.

First time back since the expansion and very impressed. Our room was a king In the new Valley Tower. Loved the easy access to the parking deck and straight down to the Casino. The slots were paying well and the staff was amazing. Excellent as always Brew Brothers food.

Absolutely terrible casino security should be fired, I flew in from Michigan with my STATE ID too Atlanta, drove with my family for an hour from a little small town but once I’m here I can’t be on the casino game floor because I’m not the age of 31 and my STATE ID didn’t work that’s what the main security guard said. Now that is completely bs because every state law is 21. So I googled what’s the age of consent in North Carolina for gambling, funny enough it’s 21 what a surprise. So I ended up calling the help desk told them what’s going on we talk for a little, then she hands me off to the main security guard I just talked too inside. I told him what’s going on then he proceeded to tell me I can’t gamble unless I have an actual driver license not an STATE ID and he didn’t bring up anything about being 31. So please be professional look at all the pictures and tell me where does it say I need a driver license or I need to be the age of 31. Not in one single picture does it say I need an actual drivers licenses not STATE ID nor do I gotta be the age of 31. Walking in the casino said must be 21 and up didn’t say anything about drivers license or age. Please update your casino page because this is completely bs and I can see why yall didn’t get the approval from the 4th casino the staff is built of lies, now with that said please update the website and get new security guards
Francisco C — Google review
They won't let you have your own cup for ice water, well they will one day but not the next so they aren't consistent at the casino part. The rooms were clean and spacious, plenty of towels and pillows. Beds were very comfortable. Staff taking our bags up and back down were great, very friendly and helpful! Will visit again!

Modest lodging inside a national forest offering low-key quarters with kitchens, BBQs & pool tables.
Awesome place to stay.. Just a couple of small updates and repairs need to happen, plus it would be nice to have the whole driveway paved/cemented..

It's a great location in the middle of endless curves, mountain trails, and fishing. Large garage to put group motorcycles is a huge asset. We even had a hot tub at the end of the day to warm up and relax muscles in. House works well for groups with 4 bedrooms in the treetops house, but needs some TLC on windows. Looking forward to coming back again someday.

Dahlonega Gold Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
Nestled in the heart of Dahlonega, the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site offers a captivating glimpse into the region's rich mining history and its role in America's first gold rush. Housed within the historic Old Lumpkin County Courthouse, which dates back to 1836, this museum showcases an impressive array of artifacts from the gold rush era. Visitors can marvel at gold coins, nuggets, and antique panning equipment that tell tales of adventure and fortune.
The museum is located at the heart of Dahlonega’s historic town square and occupies the old Lumpkin County Courthouse—one of Georgia’s oldest, dating back to 1836. It chronicles America’s first major gold rush and the short-lived U.S. Branch Mint that operated here between 1838 and 1861, minting over $6 million in gold coins.
Hakan A — Google review
My wife & I took our grandsons here. $120 for the 4 of us to tour the mines & experience planning for gold (& keeping some mined rocks/crystals) was a little pricey for me, but I guess it just depends on your need for entertainment & historic knowledge !?! Personally, I’d never do this again…but that’s me. It was professionally organized & enriching flowed smoothly. Or tour guide was great & he seemed to love his job !?!🤩
Triple R — Google review
This Museum was so interesting! I didn't know that we had a US Mint in Georgia! The Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend everyone to stop by and take a step back into History at the Dahlonega Gold Museum.

The museum is very interesting. I wasn't aware of Georgia's mining history and learned a lot. Make sure you watch the film. It's very informative. Also, take the time to open the display cabinets. There are very interesting artifacts inside.

Neat historic museum situated in an early 1800s courthouse building. Lots of cool displays about the north GA goldrush with actual gold nuggets and coins to see. Well done museum film upstairs that was very informative about the gold rush. Fun little gift shop with a pressed penny machine, as well! We enjoyed it!
Casey M — Google review
Just as a note, the main museum is up a flight of steep stairs, so be prepared. The museum is small but packed with interesting information. It covers the Georgia gold rush and gold mining in Georgia, the history of the courthouse itself, and the (short lived) Dahlonega Federal Mint. While a little expensive, a gold mine (ha!) of local history. The volunteer guide are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Sean H — Google review
I never knew that GA had gold found there. So much gold was discovered there that a US mint was built to take care of all the gold. GA gold was found years before CA. The museum even has flecks of gold in the bricks used to build it.

Nice place to get to know a piece of history. The video run takes back thru the days of gold rush. Apart from that the artifacts on display are worth a visit for $10.

Park
Popular park with a 22-acre lake, multiple hiking trails & a museum plus cottages & campsites.
This is definitely one of the most beautiful state parks in Georgia! I’ve been coming here every year for 39 years. The camping and the cabins are amazing. Playground, beach, hiking trails and gift shop are great for the whole family. The staff is extremely sweet and attentive. Especially Jack, Robbie, Vickie and Beckie who help make our stay magical every year. We appreciate all that you do to keep this park in such great shape!

This is a very nice and well maintained state park. I heard that, this is the second oldest state park in Georgia. I visited with my family and friends. I needed to pay $5 for each car. I has a very nice visitor center, you can warm your food there by microwave and take food outside sitting on chairs. A fire place was running outside to make your body warm. Mind-blowing lake view will make your mind calm, you may take bath on the lake. It has adjacent wash room but didn't find any place to take shower. We walked through the trail and good a water falls. It feels artificial waterfalls but you will not be boar. For day tour with your kids, family and friends, I will recommend it.

Vogel State Park is one of North Georgia’s most scenic and well-kept spots, perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors. The lake is a great place to fish, whether you're an experienced angler or just relaxing on the shore with family. The hiking trails are well-marked and offer a mix of easy loops and more challenging climbs, all with stunning mountain and forest views. The new visitor center is a real highlight—it’s modern, clean, and packed with helpful information about the park’s history, wildlife, and local attractions. The staff is friendly and always ready with tips on the best hiking routes or picnic areas.Overall, Vogel State Park is a peaceful escape that combines natural beauty, recreation, and great facilities. It's definitely worth a visit year-round.

This park is absolutely beautiful — it has something special about it. We arrived a bit late, so we only did a short hike, but it was really nice, with a good level of effort and surrounded by peaceful nature. There are many hiking trails to explore, and the whole place feels calm and well taken care of. I was really looking forward to kayaking, but unfortunately, the area was closed that day, which was a bit disappointing. Also, I felt there could be a better introduction or clearer signs for the trails — it would make the experience even better. Still, the park has a unique charm. It even has areas for weddings, great facilities, and very clean bathrooms. Overall, it’s a beautiful place worth visiting — perfect to relax, breathe fresh air, and enjoy a quiet connection with nature.

Nice quiet campground. The facilities have been recently renovated with upgraded trailer slots with sewer hookups in most. A new, very nice visitor center at the lake. Wi-Fi is sketchy. ATT cell signal very poor. The Wi Fi worked ok.. The camp hosts were awesome!

One of the best state parks in Georgia — about a 2-hour drive from Atlanta. The drive itself is stunning, with winding roads that motor enthusiasts will love, especially in the fall when the yellow, orange, and red foliage is absolutely breathtaking. The trails are great for hiking, particularly if you’re experienced — I highly recommend the Blood Mountain Trail. It’s also a fantastic spot for camping, especially with family. Pro tip: bring your own food and drinks, as there aren’t many options nearby.

Nestled in the picturesque North Georgia Mountains, the Consolidated Gold Mine in Lumpkin County is a captivating destination that takes you back to the heart of the 1800s gold rush. Originally established in 1887 and welcoming visitors since 1965, this historic site offers an immersive underground tour that plunges guests 200 feet below ground. Here, you can discover how gold was mined and learn about its fascinating journey from earth to treasure.
The tour guide had an amazing job. He was the great one. It was my first time exploring gold mine and it was totally worth it!!! This place is amazing. There were a lot of stories to be told and some tools still work which so surprised me. The floor is a little bit slippery, be careful. And a lot of stairs, be ready to walk a lot. They have charms in every corners inside. Worth for visit for sure.

Carolyn was our tour guide and she was fantastic! The tour was very fun and educational. At the end of the tour, we got to pan for gold. The staff were very helpful and informative. We were able to take home the gold we found in small vials. We also did a gem bucket. The staff frequently checked on us to make sure we were doing well and they answered our questions about the rocks we found. All of the staff were just so friendly and helpful.

Very cool and educational tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and added some humor into the tour. My advice would be if you’re cold natured bring a long sleeve shirt or jacket to wear on the tour- it’s chilly. Also would wear close-toed shoes, it’s wet and rocky. Just about everyone had mud on the backs of their pants legs from walking down the narrow stairs, so wear some pants and shoes you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. Overall would highly recommend!

This was easily one of our favorite experiences on our trip to Dahlonega! It was so cool and educational for our entire family. Our tour guide was great both informative and funny and we really enjoyed every part of the tour. Then we did some gem mining after and I highly recommend adding that as part of your experience especially if you have little ones. They get to keep their gems and my boys are already planning to put them in a cool cabinet when we get home! Everyone was super nice and they have a TON of cool stuff in the gift shop.

This was our first time checking out a gold mine, and we had such a great time! The tour was really informative, and our guide was awesome—he made the whole experience super enjoyable. We also got to try gold panning, and we even got to keep a little bit of the gold we found. Overall, a super cool experience and totally worth the visit!

This tour has a very interesting history, it also highlights the unfortunate exposure of past workers to hazardous working conditions. It is not ideal for individuals with mobility issues due to the presence of stairs and steep pathways that can become extremely slippery. It is essential to wear non skid shoes and hats for protection, as water drips from the ceiling. Notably, other cave tours ( other states )provide helmets for added safety.
IC U — Google review
Our guide, Chandler, was excellent. He did an especially great job with my son. He kept his attention and shared a lot of great information. We got there right when they opened at 10 am. The first tour didn’t leave until 10:30, but they let us do our (included) gold panning before the tour so between that and the gift shop the wait went quickly. The staff at the panning section was extremely helpful in both explaining how to do it and just generally assisting. My son ended up with no gold in his pan but they made sure he still went home with a fleck or two (my husband wasn’t so lucky though lol) Our tour was between 45-50 mins. We also bought the smallest gem bucket ($30) and both of my kids split it. The women at the counter tried to upsell me to the $50 bucket for both kids but the $30 was plenty. They each got a bag of gems and were happy with what they got. I’d recommend allocating about two hours here. This will definitely be a core memory for my kids. Definitely recommend.

Visited during a school field trip, the tour didn’t seem long enough but when they turned the lights out and when they showed us an old mining tool, it was awesome! The students panned for gold and perused the gift shop.

A steep trail & shuttle access this peak, Georgia's highest, offering panoramic views from 4,784-ft.
Spectacular. Have to see it to believe it! We took the van and it was comfortable, clean and the driver was great. There is a nice hike on a paved path available as well. Do wear long sleeves as little flies were biting in August on a hot day...

Nice place for a half a day trip. $8 entrance and shuttle fee per person. You can opt for a shuttle or climb the hill to reach the view point. It is 0.6 miles and tough. The welcome center and view point is great. It is good to visit during peak fall.
Harsha B — Google review
You are able to drive to the parking lot and either hike to the top or take a shuttle to the top. The shuttle costs $8 for people 16+ free for 15- There's a senior discount also but don't know what that fee is. The views are amazing.

Beautiful fall afternoon to visit Brasstown Bald. The views are stunning. The walk up to the lookout from the visitor center is very steep, so the shuttle was the way to go. Definitely worth the trip.
Goseedo_rv — Google review
The journey to this beautiful spot includes an 11-mile drive along a winding, curved road. After paying the $5 per-person entry fee at the parking area, visitors have two options to reach the summit: take a complimentary shuttle or embark on a steep, 15-20 minute hike.
Arvind M — Google review
Brasstown Bald is absolutely worth the trip. The drive up is scenic, and the views from the top are even better-wide, sweeping, and incredibly peaceful. It's the highest point in Georgia, and you really feel it when you're standing at the summit. There's a shuttle if you don't want to hike, but the trail is short and paved, and the walk up is part of the experience. The visitor center is well-kept, and it's a great spot for photos, quiet time, or just taking in the view. Definitely a memorable stop.

Bell Mountain

Hiking area
Nature & Parks
Mountains
Rugged mountain top with graffitied rocks & an observation deck providing panoramic views.
The drive up the mountain was really scary because the road is narrow and you can't keep driving if a car is coming from the opposite direction. Although the ride up was scary, the views were awesome. We went there at around 6pm, so we got to see the sunset. It looked very pretty and it looks like it is very tall! On one side I could see the mountains with water and the other side is the national forest. Overall, I enjoyed this place because it looked beautiful.
Ryan K — Google review
A beautiful place to visit. Be careful driving up to the top because the road is narrow and they dont have pull outs. Be careful driving up/down the mountain meeting people. I drove up it in a Dodge 2500 6 speed. I drove in 1st and 2nd gear all the way to the top. And 1st gear all the way off so i didn't have to hold my brakes. This road gets really steep in a couple places. Well worth the drive to see the gorgeous views.

Interesting spot. Great views and a bigger boardwalk/overlook section than I expected. There’s graffiti on everything. It was a popular spot on a Sunday morning, but still plenty of parking when I was there. There’s a sign that implies the lower parking area is easier and you’re at your own risk to go to the upper parking area; I didn’t drive up but it didn’t seem more difficult than the rest of the path on the mountain.
David H — Google review
Incredibly unique setting and views, and accessible by car. From this 3400’ peak offering a panoramic view of Lake Chatuge, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the distant Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. Two levels of parking and multiple observation decks. The uplifted nearly vertical quartzite rocks are adorned with layers of interesting graffiti. The two way access road is only one to one and half lane wide, and there are sections that exceed grades I’ve experienced driving seeming paved goat paths in the Alps and elsewhere in Europe, so be prepared and AVOID in slippery conditions.
Nick A — Google review
🌄 Bell Mountain – A View You’ll Never Forget! 🌄 Nothing but breathtaking views everywhere you look! The panoramic overlook of Lake Chatuge is absolutely stunning — a true photographer’s paradise 📸. Be prepared though — this adventure isn’t for the faint of heart! The drive up is extremely steep, so make sure your vehicle has good brakes 🚗💨. Once you reach the top parking area, there are steps you can climb for even more incredible views. There are no bathrooms, and it’s not stroller or wheelchair friendly, so plan accordingly. The graffiti-covered rocks give it a unique, colorful vibe — and surprisingly, the contrast just makes nature’s beauty shine even brighter 🎨✨. 💡 Fun Fact: Bell Mountain rises about 3,400 feet above sea level, offering one of the best 360° views in all of North Georgia — especially at sunset! 🌅 If you love adventure, scenic beauty, and capturing unforgettable moments, Bell Mountain is a must-see! 🙌🏾
Kelli G — Google review
Absolute must do!!! It’s beautiful no matter what time of day but sunrise or sunset is breathtaking!! Highly recommend. You can drive all the way to the top parking lot where you’ll see the giant rock covered in graffiti & the staircase leading to the highest viewing point. But the view is stunning even from the parking lot so no need to worry if you can’t or don’t want to climb the stairs! Can’t miss this while in town!

BabyLand General Hospital

Toy store
Sights & Landmarks
Visitors can watch Cabbage Patch Kids being "born" from a tree, then adopt them at this toy store.
STEP BACK INTO THE 80'S❤️❤️❤️ I finally made it! Bucket list ✅. Super cute!! Free to enter. Lots of toys. It's about a 1-2 hours walk of toys, toys and toys and different themed rooms. My girls thought it was a bit creepy seeing the heads in the cabbage but I grew up with cabbage patch kids so this was amazing! With that said it only took us 30 minutes to walk it. If you don't mind your kids wanting you to purchase all the toys there, this is a great place to visit. Nurses are all super friendly. Beautiful for picture opportunities. I love it and would return (perhaps without my girls next time lol).

So much fun and free admission! The toys are beautifully decorated and displayed, and the prices are very affordable. Not just Cabbage Patch Kids, but they also have many other plushes. The staff I encountered were super kind and sweet. I would definitely recommend a visit.

BabyLand General Hospital is truly one of my favorite places. The Cabbage Patch dolls are absolutely beautiful — it feels like stepping into a magical world. Visiting this place and adopting one for my daughters was one of the most heartwarming experiences I’ve ever had with them. Seeing their smiling faces as they looked through the dolls, picked out their outfits, and chose accessories was pure magic. I even ended up buying dolls not only for my daughters but also for myself! I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves dolls or wants to share a special moment with their family. It’s a beautiful, unforgettable experience. The only thing that would make it even better would be if the person issuing the adoption certificates were a little more friendly. My daughters felt a little uncomfortable because she was so serious. Since this is such a magical experience for the girls, a warm smile would make it absolutely perfect. 🎀❤️😀

Took my 2y/o for her birthday and so glad that I did! BabyLand is massive! A little kids dream. If they don't want a cabbage patch doll there are tons of other stuffed animals and other options. We walked out with a baby owl and a Bingo bouncey ball. Definitely recommended visiting if your kid loves any of the above. It's such a cute and unique place.

A Magical Trip Back for Any 80s Girl. Visiting Babyland General Hospital was like stepping into a childhood dream! As an 80s girl, seeing the Cabbage Patch Kids being “born” and all the nostalgic displays truly warmed my heart. It’s such a unique and whimsical experience. Best of all — it’s completely free to visit! There’s a lot to look at: nurseries, vintage dolls, fun little displays, and even the live cabbage patch “birth.” While the building and decor are definitely showing a little wear, everything is still lovingly cared for and full of charm. Whether you’re bringing your kids, reliving memories, or just want a little joy in your day, it’s absolutely worth a stop. We had such a sweet time — a true hidden gem.
Amy H — Google review
My mother visited the original Babyland General nearly 30 years ago when it was located closer to downtown Cleveland. She bought a commemorative 1996 Atlanta Olympics Cabbage patch kid which we still have today. When looking online for any news on Babyland, I saw that they had moved location back in 2010 to a much larger facility. I told my mom about this and in a flash, we were driving up north one weekend to see the new location. We were surprised with the new location being much larger than the smaller clinic building from years ago. Numerous Cabbage Patch kid busts greet you as you pull into the parking lot. Inside, the store is made to look like a hospital nursery with the staff dressed as nurses. The store was fun and entertaining with exhibits on the history of BabyLand and new dolls to “adopt.” Besides the titular dolls, there are other toys like stuffed animals, cars and several others for the kids to buy. Overall, a great place to bring family and kids when visiting Northeast Georgia.

I just got back from an unforgettable weekend trip to Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, and my inner 80s kid is absolutely screaming with joy! 🤩 Stepping through those doors, I was instantly transported back to my childhood in the Bronx, holding my beloved Cabbage Patch doll, Betsy. It was pure magic! My friends and I—grown women, mind you—spent the day playing, exploring, and getting lost in the unapologetic wonder of it all. The familiar, nostalgic scent of that Cabbage Patch "baby powder" filled the air, instantly bringing back a rush of memories. We even witnessed a "live birth" from Mother Cabbage herself—a moment of pure, whimsical delight that I'll never forget! ✨ Seeing the magic firsthand, I can only imagine the joy of bringing a child here to create their own lifelong memories. This isn't just a store; it's a nostalgic trip back in time, and an experience of pure, unadulterated fun. I will most definitely be back! #ashsaidit #80sKid #CabbagePatchKids #80sNostalgia #RetroToys #VintageToys #BabylandGeneral #ClevelandGA #TravelGeorgia #WeekendGetaway #FamilyFun

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Anna Ruby Falls is a picturesque natural wonder located in Unicoi State Park. The waterfall can be accessed by driving through the park and visiting the visitor's center. The hiking trail to the falls is paved, and there are several rock benches along the way for resting. Visitors should bring $5 per person to access the falls, and they can also visit the gift shop, which accepts cards and offers nice gifts.
Anna Ruby Falls is a main attraction around this area of North Georgia. A relatively short, but fairly angled hike along the waterfalls will lead to a spectacular view at the top featuring the two waterfall's descent from the top of the cliff. Restrooms were clean and well maintained. Highly occupied area with lots of people but finding a place to park should not be a problem. Well worth the visit and a great place to spend time with family. Unique features: great views of descending waterfall all along the relatively short hike to the top. Lots of places to take pictures. Family environment. Very clean and well maintained.

Beautiful waterfalls! Note that the only way to view the falls is a .4 VERY steep hike up the mountain. The path is paved and there are a few places to rest along the way. But if you aren't in shape, it is not an easy climb. It can be done but take advantage of those places to rest! The view is beautiful at the top!

Paved trail, but up hill. Easy climb and beautiful falls. I thought the walk was beautiful until we got to the spectacular falls. The water cascading over the rocks beside the trail is gorgeous. The falls were amazing. Plenty of water due to the recent rains, but the water had settled enough to be clear and not muddy. What a great day.

Such a beautiful walk, and pretty easy too! $5 entry fee per person. Gift shop at the entrance. There's a few steep inclines but the whole thing is paved. Be careful and wear grippy shoes though if it has recently rained, as it can be a bit slippery on the inclines. Lots of interesting plant life too along the way.

Admission is $5 per person. The trail is well-paved and easy with only slight inclines, taking about 30 minutes round trip. There’s a nice view at the top, along with a small gift shop and clean restrooms. Parking is plentiful.

Anna Ruby Falls is a truly charming place. Admission is only $5 per person and well worth it. The trail to the falls is short, paved, and accessible, with a few steeper sections. The twin waterfalls cascading side by side create a breathtaking view, perfect for photos and enjoying nature. The area is well maintained, clean, and organized, with a cozy little gift shop and even a water fountain to refill your bottle. A complete and very enjoyable experience.

Came here today and going back tomorrow for more fun! Tons of white quartz just lying around which we’re happy with, but we also found amethyst and garnets! The bugs are even cool! The guys there were absolutely friendly and knowledgeable and willing to lend a helping hand finding stuff in our piles that we almost missed! Definitely recommend this mine!

Very fun experience. They let us know what to look for and came around once in awhile to check our findings and see if we were missing anything. Mike was great and very nice. They had a dog onsite to that said hello to all the other customers and was an additional highlight.

Fantastic experience, this is exactly what we were hoping for with digging your own dirt and finding stones. The site was very cool and we liked the bit of history they had to offer. We did this for my girlfriends belated birthday and she loved it. We came a little later in the day but still had plenty of time to have fun. We will be back hopefully in the fall.

Just what my wife was after! Visited with my wife and son, we arrived later in the day (2:30 or so) and were advised that the time was limited (we expected that). The staff advised us that 3 buckets of dirt each would be our best bet, so we went with that. It had been raining, so the climb up to the dig site was a bit muddy, we didn't mind. There is a fenced in area with dirt and several shovels stabbed into the ground; pick your spot and toss some dirt in. Once you fill the bucket, you head down to the sluice to wash the gravel and then it's a game of Where's Waldo to find interesting things. My wife and son were both pretty lucky, she found a pretty large sapphire in her first pan. I struck out, but that's the game. All in all, it was exactly what we expected. The staff were very friendly and helpful, though I was surprised that they didn't seem to know a whole lot of history about the area or the mine. All together, it was a fun experience and a nice chill activity for the family.

My kids and I had a great time. Traveled from Florida. We love the mountains and the area for vacation. We found a few sapphires. Had a fun time looking and digging and getting dirty in the clay. Had a fun time. The staff was very helpful and it's a relaxing environment. We bought the black light to look so the gem reflects and you can spot them faster. Kids will love it. I also had fun I love digging and looking for stuff. They have a nice restroom area with shower and drinks and sell gloves and a little store also inside. Pretty land and landscape and great flumes to clean your rocks. They offer native digging, or enriched buckets. We did the dig. It was fun.

We loved ALL of the staff- they were warm, welcoming and incredibly helpful! If not for Chris, we would have passed up several sapphires. He has an eagle eye for them! The idea of going and digging and bringing it down for the rinse and hunt was very neat. They have sturdy walkways from the dig site to the rinsing area. It was very affordable at $35/per person. The only thing that we were bummed about is the rareness to find rubies! Also the shop had very little on display for purchase. Though, that is not what there establishment is for- it is all about the dig! We wished the bathrooms had been de-winterized, but the good ol' porta potty was clean as a whistle!

A breathtaking waterfall that is definitely off the beaten path! My hubby and I visited this weekend. It wasn't crowded, and there is no fee (considering that you drive up a dirt road and just pull over to the side to park!). It is a very short hike with a slight incline to get to the beautiful waterfall. But also be aware that there is nothing else here--no playground, no picnic area, and most importantly, NO RESTROOM! Just you and nature. Great outing if you're in the area...

There is an unpaved road leading to the parking lot. Parking was free. It is a short walk to the falls. The path does have a lot of roots so it’s not for anyone with mobility issues. The water fall was stunning. There is a large flat stone right in front that was perfect for sitting and admiring the falls. The trail is well maintained, there were actually workers with chainsaws clearing downed trees while I was there.

Beautiful waterfall, nice little hike to reach it. There isn't a parking lot, just park on the side of the narrow road, traffic is mostly to get to the falls. If you blink you miss it, we saw two small signs with an arrow. Once you get there, there are some stairs to climb and the trail, there are no railings and roots to walk over but it's not a hard climb. Once at the falls it is beautiful, there are some trees that you can sit to enjoy it, there's always some people willing to take pictures of you. Nice place to visit if you're in town.

Very impressive waterfall with easy access. Small parking lot. Easy 1/4 mile hike one-way. Huge sitting rock at the base of the falls. Perfect for a picnic. Great for any age. My son and dogs love to go and play in the waterfall.

I loved this hike! While the trail is short, it is well defined but has ups, downs, roots, and gorgeous mushrooms. The short trail allows you to spend plenty of time just soaking in the falls, sitting on the rocks and observing the many nooks and crannies. The drive up is completely unpaved for miles, which can be a pro or con depending on what you like. If your car can handle it, it adds another layer to the hike that ups the adventure even before you get there! I would definitely recommend if you are in the area :)

This was a very nice waterfall, the road there is a narrow gravel road with lots of beautiful homes on a lakefront. There are no restrooms or Porta potties at this waterfall. The trail head was a sturdy nature/man made staircase and the trail itself is typical with a lot of exposed roots. It's not a long hike back to the waterfall and fairly easy. Part of the trail did have a tree down but you could maneuver around it.

Short up and down hill hike. Even saw people with walking canes. Not smooth walking surface as you step over tree roots, rocks and some muddy spots. You will not be able to use a stroller.

One of the best waterfalls to visit in Georgia and it’s an easy short hike. The is limited parking so go early or during the week.
