Really awesome park. We watched the video before wandering the grounds finding the numbers on the pamphlet and explored the inside museum. Lots to see! Take water!

I stayed at the backcountry/hike-in site 1 on April 22nd. Arrived after the park office had closed but it was pretty easy to figure out where I was going from the reservation packet they had left to the left of the entrance. No information about where to park for hike-in sites. The hike was short but nice. The right-hand trail of the loop (the shortest way to site 1) is closed but it still took less than 20 minutes to get to the site. Site is pretty small with no fire ring and it is right next to the “lookout platform” (kinda disappointing- it’s only about 7 or 8 feet off of the ground) so if anyone wants to go there they will be traipsing through your campsite. But the hike in sites are far away from the main campground so not sure that many people would be interested (no one came through my site in the 12 hours or so I was there). The location is nice, right at the edge of a wetland area with a small waterway right in front of the lookout center, but the bugs are relentless. The no see ums were so bad I could not enjoy my dinner on the lookout platform like I had hoped, and the campground rules state that you are not allowed to have a fire unless it is in a designated ring so I spent 99% of my time there in my tent hiding from the bugs. Maybe it was just the time of year, but I don’t think I would stay here again. Also, they charge you a parking/access fee and I think that’s pretty crap to be charged for that when you are already paying for camping.

The guest services were kind and helpful. The self guided tour was perfect. It was very discriptive and informative. You could go through at your own pace. The entire place was beautiful and tranquil. If you listened closely as the wind blew through the trees and the palm fronds, you might hear the voices of long ago soldiers as the prepared for and fought battles. This is somewhere I would definitely return to in the future.
Julie T — Google review
A good experience with plenty of knowledge to learn about the fort and area surrounding! Hiking trails were a bit flooded from the recent rain but still plenty to explore besides them. The places they let your explore are spooky but awesome to see! Very Well maintained!

Fantastic option for those exploring Savannah and local wildlife! Gorgeous park with lots of wildlife and places to walk. The cabins are truly impressive (sorry, I totally didnt take a photo)! No wifi, so plan for that.
Mallory H — Google review
Beautiful park. Stayed 2 nights and will be back. Large sites with water and hydro. Some sites with sewer. Varied wildlife wider the park. Saw many deer, armadillo, owls raccoons. Reasonable prices and nice quiet park. Trails, boats ramps. Small gift shop on site. Dump station, comfort stations. Highly recommend this gem!
Linda G — Google review
We love this campground. The sites are shady, the atmosphere is awesome and the wildlife experience is second to none. The deer and raccoons visited our site every night. They would literally creep up within 10 or 15 feet of us in hopes we had food.

Tybee Island Light Station & Museum

Tybee Island Light Station & Museum is a historic site featuring Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse, offering self-guided tours for visitors. In addition to lounging on the sandy beach and enjoying ocean views from the pier pavilion, you can explore the museum showcasing over 400 years of island history. The area also offers opportunities to savor Southern-style seafood, observe live alligators at the Crab Shack, and learn about marine life at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center.
This lighthouse & keepers house is truly beautiful! I love seeing how the keepers lived and the old quilts, furniture & toys the kids had. The keepers house had the kitchen tucked away from the main part of the house to help keep the heat out during hot summers. The light house had a great winding staircase with 176 (I believe) steps to the very top. A good work out on a very hot day! The view is amazing from the top, well worth the climb. If tou aim your camera just right you can get a nice shot of the fresnel lens.
V B — Google review
The Tybee Island Light Station & Museum is absolutely incredible! The history and preservation are top notch, and everything is beautifully maintained. The museum itself is full of fascinating details and gives you such a deep appreciation for the lighthouse and its place in history. Climbing the lighthouse was such a memorable experience. I’ll admit, the height gave me a little bit of anxiety on the way up, but it was 100% worth it once we reached the top. The 360-degree views of the island and ocean are simply breathtaking — you can see all of Tybee laid out beneath you, and it’s a view you’ll never forget. The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable, and you can really tell they care about keeping this historic site alive for future generations. If you’re visiting Tybee, this is a must-see. Whether you love history, architecture, or just want that unbeatable view, the Tybee Island Light Station & Museum is an experience you don’t want to miss!

Tybee Island is a beautiful, peaceful beach destination just outside Savannah. The shoreline is clean, calm, and perfect for relaxing walks or sunsets. There are plenty of spots for great seafood, local shops, and scenic views. It’s a great place for a quiet getaway, family trip, or just to unwind by the ocean. Overall, a perfect mix of charm, nature, and coastal vibes. Specifically try North side beach. It’s very calm.
Tushar D — Google review
One of the bucket list things to do in Savannah area. Went on a holiday weekend and it was not too bad. There was a bit of wait due to limit but not bad. The walk up is not too bad but 178 steps up spiral staircase may turn into more depending on if groups are trying down at the same time and you back down to landing. We were there and a staff member was testing wind speed. Apparently we were only a little breeze away from closing down. The breeze though stiff was a great cool down in the late summer heat. The property display houses and museum were a nice touch.
Howard M — Google review
The history is awesome. I thought I knew so much about Savannah, yet going through this tour showed me more of how the ppl lived, and I learned so much about the many diversities Savannah faced and over came. The climb to the top was .whoo.. but awsome experience
Hope M — Google review
It’s worth a visit to see how the lighthouse was run. The staff were super sweet and added stories which just added to the atmosphere. The walk up the 178 stairs wasn’t too bad the steps were better than some I’ve walked up before. The view from the top was well worth it!
Lori B — Google review
Great experience! The museum was really interesting, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The climb up the winding staircase is definitely a workout, but the view from the top is absolutely worth it. Loved seeing the restored keeper’s houses and exploring the historic grounds. A must-visit while on Tybee Island!

Cass and Kaitlyn are the light house hostesses with the mostesses! Friendly, funny and informative. Great view from the light house. The preserved buildings and furnishings are well worth the $14 fee.

Fort Pulaski National Monument

Mentioned on
2 lists
Monument
Sights & Landmarks
Fort Pulaski National Monument is a significant Civil War landmark that offers ranger tours and historic exhibits. It was built in 1829 and came under a 30-hour siege by Union forces during the Civil War. The monument is well-maintained, educational, and has friendly staff on site. Visitors can explore the fort, take riverside hiking and biking trails, or even go on a dolphin tour nearby. The Visitor Center provides informative displays about the history of the fort and its surroundings.
The Fort was way more interesting than I expected it to be. The history here is incredible and grounds are beautiful. The rangers are helpful, knowledgeable, and eager to share information. Every turn we took on our tour had our family amazed with facts and stories. Tickets are $10 for adults and kids under 16 are free. I wish we spent more time here to experience all the offerings we missed. Even if you aren't a history fan I still recommend this area for the surrounding nature and awe in engineering.
Michael W — Google review
Georgia's equivalent of Fort Sumter in Charleston, SC. Touring the fort gives you the ability to imagine what life was like for the soldiers during the 1800's. There are trails to different part of the islands. One of the trails takes you over to the beach where you can see the light house. Better view though by taking one of the Dolphin Boat Tours in the area. The park store is located inside of the fort walls and not at the Visitor Center. Bathrooms are only located at the Visitor Center. They have a large Fig Tree which you are invited to snack from while touring the fort.
Susan H — Google review
Great Fort to learn about history and hike to a lighthouse. 4 stars because they need better signage to get to the trail for the lighthouse and an actual trail like with gravel or paved sidewalk so you know you are heading in the right direction. You have to go through the grass behind the fort to find the first sign to get to the lighthouse. It’s about 3/4 miles to get to lighthouse. The grass was not cut short and it had been drizzling so it was wet and soggy and in some places that you couldn’t see because of the grass your shoes are covered in water. You walk further down the trail and there’s puddles of mud which are hard to get around which I ended slipping a few times, but luckily didn’t fall. We saw hundreds of crabs 🦀 as you got closer to the water and they were climbing the trees 😳😬. I think there was 2 short boardwalks and then the viewing area for the lighthouse. 2 binoculars are at the viewing area, but we just zoomed in with our camera phones. Beware of mosquitoes 🦟 attacking you on the trail, so bring repellent. Enjoyed the fort with all the tunnels, lost my husband for a while. They also showed the visitors how the cannons were loaded and shot, so loud. It’s $10 per person unless you have a National Park Pass.
Lori L — Google review
A childhood field trip staple if you grew up in the area. I had to comeback 40 years later to experience it as adult. Nice history presentations from staff. Alot of walking and probably should have used sunscreen. Found the light house trail that never did as a kid. A nice preservation of important history
Howard M — Google review
Haven't visited this place in decades. So Otto and I made a special trip so he could check it out. Little did he know that he would be tapped as a Fort Pulaski Bark Ranger! He did a great job of sniffing inside and outside of the fort. He also greeted several people and especially enjoyed the children. This National Monument is definitely worth the visit! PS. Kudos to Ms Jan for being an awesome park volunteer!!!
Caleb G — Google review
This is a really fascinating place to visit. The visitor's center gave a lot of the back story on the Fort, the people and the slaves who were part of building it and the wars they fought. The short movie they show was really informative. Walking through it really put into perspective what they experienced.
Tasha E — Google review
We spent about three hours on the Fort Pulaski grounds. Very educational for people of all ages. Very well done introductory film in the Visitor Center.

Originally developed in the 1840s and expanded later, it features a historic fountain, Confederate and Spanish-American War memorials, fragrant gardens, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts. This is a beautiful park in the historic district. Lots of lovely shade trees and new benches. Many young locals out for a walk or run. Very active large park. Several historical sites and a fountain ⛲ and a nice restaurant. Dog friendly.

Beautiful place to go for a walk, have a picnic, or just chill on a bench and people- watch or read a book! The trees are absolutely amazing!!! They also have a really cool farmers’ market on Saturday mornings with fresh produce, of course, and much more - food, art, various artisan goods, and fun, quirky surprises waiting to be discovered!

This is where I'd go daily if I were living here. What a fantastic park to have an afternoon stroll, relax at one of the beaches and people watch, or find a little spot on the grass to end the day. Great history too and is famous with many films featuring the park.
Hung T — Google review
Don't miss this stop. It's breath taking. Beautiful old oaks adorn this park and create an inviting place to read, nap or people watch. You could bike and run, but not this time :). Water fountain was being repaired so no water works. But beautiful non the less.
Ladeegeek G — Google review
Forsyth Park is such a beautiful and dynamic place! There’s always something going on. people having picnics, kids playing, sports, and sometimes even live music. The vibe is amazing, full of life and good energy. It’s a perfect spot for walking, relaxing, or just spending time outdoors.
Samira — Google review
Really cool park in Savannah. Very popular with travelers and locals alike. The Fountain is probably the most popular draw. But, tucked away in a corner of the park is a walled garden. I've been there about 20 times and could only access it maybe 3 or 4 times. Kind of reminds you of the secret garden. Great place to stretch your legs, take your dogs, or even just relax and read a book.
Grant F — Google review
This park is fabulous! It’s a busy place on Saturday with soccer, ultimate frisbee, tennis, basketball, and anything else you can imagine. It also features a wonderful market along the central, live oak-line walkway. The fountain is beautiful and there’s construction happening and it looks like maybe a new zen garden is coming. There is a stage and I’d love to come back for a concert one day. Locals and visitors should take advantage of this amazing outdoor space early and often!
Heath S — Google review
Beautiful park and it should be one of the first places to visit when you are in Savannah. There is also free parking by the tenis courts and free bus that can take you from there to the waterfront and free ferry wich is great for sightseeing the whole downtown area.

Sights & Landmarks
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is a 19th-century Roman Catholic church known for its neo-gothic architecture, stunning stained glass, and music recitals. Situated in Savannah's Historic District, it features twin 200-foot white spires that dominate the skyline. The cathedral is one of the largest in the southern states and attracts numerous visitors who come to admire its external architecture.
A beautiful mini Basilica filled with lots of art- paintings, windows, and statues. Our teenagers were amazed. We attended the 10 am mass on Sunday and felt welcomed. There was street parking, incense was burned at this mass time (which is announced on their website), and we went to the coffee shop across the street after- (it was packed!). Definitely a must see Cathedral if in Savannah!
Elsa O — Google review
This cathedral basilica was BEAUTIFUL. The member of the church who gave us the history on the cathedral was very knowledgeable, kind and non judging. I would LOVE to visit here again. I'm not religious however I would definitely love to attend a service here one day.
Kaylee G — Google review
A beautiful and grand church building. The tour is self-guided and can be completed in a relatively short time. A docent was present to speak with visitors. He was friendly and knowledgeable. If you like organ music, go early. We were told that the organist often practices during the first hour of the morning tour period. The best part: there is no admission fee! A nominal freewill offering is requested.
James G — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! I did not take an official tour. Just went in and explored. Friendly staff. The front outside was under construction, but I think it will be lovely once it is restored. This is an historical landmark, beautiful, serene and definitely worth seeing. Don't forget to leave a donation before you leave; they need this to keep the cathedral beautiful and historic.
Nicole Z — Google review
Beautiful place! It was easy to get in, and the views inside are absolutely stunning. They even share great info about the church while you’re there. I recommend checking their website for hours before you go, but we were able to walk right in and even caught a quick performance from a band — such a nice surprise!
Jennifer F — Google review
Highly recommend visiting! A must-see on your trip to Savannah. It is absolutely gorgeous and so peaceful. Stunning architecture inside and out. There are areas inside for prayer and candle lighting. You can come and go as you please. There are guides in there to answer questions or give more information if needed. I will be back again.
Megan — Google review
The Cathedral was beautiful. It is open to the public during certain times as listed outside the building, but does have an active congregation with masses. There is no admission charge, but donations are encouraged and appreciated. Guests are asked to be respectful and quiet so those around them can have a quiet prayer time. We are definitely glad we hopped off the tour bus to go inside and see the beauty inside.

Love Savannah, 3 day visit. Sunday- Wednesday. Perfect time. No crowds, took the land and sea tour. Very informative and fun. Downtown Historic area is very easy to walk. Lots of beautiful sites and plenty of places to get a bit or get a cocktail.

Simply stated, it’s one of the most beautiful cities you can visit. This time of year the weather is perfect for touring the town. Take the Trolley tour. There are 16 stops and the drivers are very knowledgeable about all the history and the buildings/homes. The selection of restaurants is incredible, ranging from burgers to fresh seafood. It’s also very walkable, within reason. Parking can be very difficult to find in the Garden District. Take the trolley, it’s goes to many places around the city.

Savannah is a beautiful city to explore!! Lots of history. We unfortunately only had a day, and it definitely wasn't enough time. We did the hop on hop off trolley tours. It was nice to have transportation around the area for the day while also having the freedom to just get off and explore. Which I highly recommend you do! The cemetery was very neat to see. I hope on our next trip to see more of what Savannah has to offer. These photos are just a glimpse into what we saw and what you can look forward to seeing yourself.

Savannah’s Historic District is full of charm and history, and it’s easy to explore entirely on foot. The Riverwalk is a highlight, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and a great honey store worth stopping by. There are hop on hop off and trolley available. Beautiful green medians lined with weeping willow and oak trees give the area a peaceful feel. Don’t miss the old cemetery and historic buildings throughout – it’s a truly memorable place to visit.

First time visiting Savannah and I fell in love! The tress are just a beautiful piece of the history here. Walking down the shops was pleasant. I enjoyed the candy store I don’t remember the name but they make the candy there and give you samples. It’s a great shop to visit and bring the kids when visiting here. Walking down the waterfront was also nice and watching the boats pass by was neat. There is so much to look at and visit. The shops have a variety of options and restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend visiting here with family. Make sure to check the weather because it can get hot.

Museums
The Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters is a museum located in Savannah, Georgia. Built in 1819, this English Regency-style house was once owned by the Owens-Thomas family and later donated to become part of Savannah's Telfair Museums. The museum showcases the lives of the slaves who lived and worked in the house, including their living quarters with hand-painted ceilings in haint blue, believed to ward off evil spirits.
I'm glad we toured this place. Our kids loved the history and the very knowledgeable staff/tour guides, made the history of the house and how it was ran, very imaginable. The house is very well preserved and the story of the house itself is intriguing. Our kids were fascinated. At the end of the tour, you are able to read the captured notes from letters sent from some of the home's inhabitants. Pictures are welcomed! I wish I would've taken more, but I was REALLY intrigued.
Elsa O — Google review
No trip to Savannah would be complete without a guided tour of this truly incredible and historically significant home. Our tour guides' passsion and deep knowledge of the location and it's many layers of history made for a meaningful, moving, at times surprising and deeply instructive experience.
Wind S — Google review
We didn’t book in advance but were able to join a group beginning a guided tour almost immaculate. The guide was outstanding. It’s an interesting visit in terms of the unique architecture, the view of life at that time in such a home with enslaved people an integral part of the system, and the unique historical roles played by some of the inhabitants. So, a small place, a home, but an experience that’s interesting and revealing on several levels. We’re glad we stumbled onto this place.
Paul C — Google review
A powerful and beautifully preserved piece of Savannah’s history. The Owens-Thomas House offers a rare blend of stunning Regency architecture and honest storytelling about both the wealthy family and the enslaved people who lived there. The restored slave quarters are especially moving. Guided tours are informative and well-paced. Highly recommend for a meaningful and educational experience.
Ryan — Google review
Excellent opportunity to learn the true history of Savannah including the treatment of enslaved people. The tour was very accurate full of details of the period. The home itself is amazing and well-kept.
Paula H — Google review
The best thing about this tour was our guide. He artfully contrasted the life of the mansion's owners with those of the enslaved people who served there. This is why I think it's an important tour for anyone interested in Savannah, and American, history. Plus, your ticket gives you access to the other two Telfair Museums which are both worth visiting.
Krin T — Google review
Very interesting testimony of the time of slavery. Help to understand the dire contrast between the life of enslaved people and enslavers. The guide was very knowledgeable. Notably, the Marquis de La Fayette staid in this place during his last trip to America.

Southern restaurant (US)
The Olde Pink House is a top choice for experiencing authentic Southern cuisine in Savannah. Housed in an elegant 18th-century Georgian mansion, the restaurant offers a sophisticated dining experience with portrait-lined walls, fireplaces, and shimmering chandeliers. The menu features inventive Southern dishes including seafood, beef, pork, and chicken options as well as classic Southern favorites like shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes.
The food was absolutely amazing!! The biscuits are fantastic, possibility the best I have ever had. We had the fried green tomatoes for our appetizer. I had the special, short ribs, my husband had the pecan crusted chicken. My husband and I ate here to celebrate our anniversary. The place is gorgeous, we failed to realize it is more of a casual dress style. However, they still let us enjoy our evening with them. We did have some trouble reading our menu due to the darkness of the room. They did have candles to make it more romantic but they did not give off enough light. The manager even remembered us and wished us a happy Anniversary on our way out!!

We made reservations for five at the Pink House months earlier and it was wonderful. The property is beautiful and is in a great location easy to walk to. The service was five star, they were attentive and answered all our questions. We ordered chicken pot pie, the bourbon glazed pork loin was medium rare and it paired well with the pecan glazed sweet potato and collared greens which were the best I ever had. The fried chicken looked great and the portion was generous. The interior was beautifully decorated. We sat in the green room which had a cozy fireplace and a magnificent chandelier. This was definitely a must see.

This was a fantastic dining experience from beginning to end. Our server Shaina was an absolute super star! She was tremendously welcoming and gracious and very helpful. It was obvious that she enjoys what she does and loves all the great things that The Olde Pink House brings to the table. She was extremely knowledgeable on the entire menu as well as the history of this special establishment. The food was absolutely delicious and full of great flavors that were fresh and cooked perfectly. The cocktails were excellent as well. Another nice touch was a very special woman that came around to sing a requested song or sing happy birthday. I was fortunate enough to request a tune and also sing a duet with her on Amazing Grace! Overall. It was a fantastic evening and one that will remain in my heart for a long time. Definitely worth checking out if you are in town!

Not to be missed, make a reservation. A lovely historic house with well trained staff. Food was creative and presented well. A little warm inside (they had the fires on low for some reason), - I felt it could have used a couple of fans to move the air. However a great restaurant and very popular for a reason.

Having dinner at the Olde Pink House was such a treat! Our server Issac was so sweet and knowledgeable, the food was perfect, and the atmosphere was a cozy and welcoming 10/10. We had the stuffed flounder, the fried chicken and macaroni and cheese, the southern sushi, the fried green tomatoes, and the chocolate tarte for dessert. Every item was equally delicious in its own right. We also popped downstairs to the tavern and would absolutely go back and have drinks and food there again! So cozy and historic and the live music was such a great touch.
Brittany W — Google review
We went for dinner for my birthday and thought the food was good but not excellent. It’s also a bit of a production as they come and get you when your table is ready from the bar downstairs but can’t transfer your bill to your table. The she crab soup and spring roll as appetizers were okay — would actually skip appetizers if I came back. Loved my grilled pork for the main though and the sweet potato was also delicious. The Mac and cheese and fried green tomato was just okay. The biscuit is the true shining star at this restaurant, so don’t skip out on that.

Do yourself a favor: go to The Olde Pink House while in Savannah. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed with big smiles and friendly Staff. We were seated by a charismatic Host in a great location upstairs. Our Server, Dennis, showed up immediately with a welcoming smile and caring, genuine attitude. He brought us some tasty homemade cheese straws, while we chose our entrees. We had great conversation with Dennis as he educated us on the history of the house and the city. We decided to get the fried chicken and the special, which was fried flounder in a tarragon spice on a bed of seafood risotto. I will tell you with all honesty that the fried chicken is the best we have ever had, and we are from the South. With every bite, you can taste the history of the house and the city. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, perfectly cooked. The chicken stayed hot from the time it arrived at the table to the last bite. It was truly magical. The special was also well cooked and full of flavor. Our experience was perfect and would absolutely go back. We've told everyone about the fried chicken and I could not wait to write a review so more people will know just how delicious it is. The Olde Pink House is full of character, personality, great Staff and wonderful food. Go to the Olde Pink House: you will be so glad you did.

We booked a table for lunch a month in advance. Dinner is more difficult to book. The setting is beautiful, in the historic district opposite savanna's Reynolds Square. The house dates from 1771 and it's classically appointed . The food and drinks were all tasty - classic Southern fare with creative twists. Service was attentive but a bit rushed. Worth a visit! Beautiful place, it’s like Europe. My ideal fun place, the boat and the trolleys, next time when I travel to Savannah, I will be well prepared. There are parking places , but on weekends, parking might be difficult due to space limitations.

Savannah City Market is a historic four-block open-air market in Savannah's Historic District that has been around since the 1700s. It has withstood significant events throughout history and is now preserved as a landmark. The market is housed within restored warehouse buildings and offers various shopping and dining experiences, including British bakeries, seafood houses, daquiri dispensaries, and ice cream shops. Additionally, it features local artists showcasing their work in different mediums.
This was a fun stop to explore when getting off at the trolley stop. The prohibition museum was a must see and lunch at Paula Dean and Sons restaurant was wonderful.

Love the inner closed streets for wandering. Music seemed to be playing everywhere which gave a great atmosphere! The bathroom situation is less than ideal, everywhere says market closes at 6, but by 530 info center was closed. Need a key for the public bathroom in the artist building but artist shops have notes saying no key;don’t ask 🤷‍♀️. Birds cookie shop had SUPER friendly staff. The candy shop did not. Pizza smelled delicious and I regret not trying it! Was a fun time to walk around and enjoy a little time!

Interesting place. Dog and adult beverages friendly. Lots of shops and places to eat. The pizza at Vinnie's was delicious. A very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours before dinner.
Adam — Google review
The flags that were on display said "Fall in Love with the City Market" and that was an easy one for us! This market was huge with most buildings having two floors loaded with unique and bougie shops, art galleries, food specialties, and much much more. Proprietors were so friendly and informative and attentive to your curiosities and we were in no pressure for time to leave any shop not visited. A must if you're ever visiting the downtown Savannah area!
Doug F — Google review
This place was an unexpected treat! Reminded me of 'The French Market' in New Orleans! More open air than the French Market. Wide pedestrian only streets made walking easy. Nice clusters of retail shops, art galleries, and restaurants of every type. Better yet, this place stays open til 10pm! Yes, It's a tourist trap but it's NOT a bunch of 'Made in China' crap! It ALL local craft persons selling well-made, functional items. Check out the gorgeous bags made of recycled sail cloth! The shoe place next door was awesome! In need of a sugar fix? FREE PRALINE SAMPLE just down half a block! While I still yearn for New Orleans, this place was a lovely substitute! I was in Savannah 2 days during which I went to VINNIE'S 3 times. It's that GOOD! IT'S ALL GOOD!!!!

Even though we didn’t have the best weather, this beach is really beautiful. Lots of great shopping areas and restaurants. The people are friendly. No mosquitoes or bugs, at least we didn’t get bothered by any. Took maternity photos and saw lots of other families taking family photos, wedding photos, etc.

This is a beautiful beach with a small boardwalk that leads to the clean beach. The boardwalk is lined with lots of seating under covered structured areas. The restrooms and changing areas are separate and clean. There's a handicapped parking lot located at the entrance to the boardwalk. It has 10-15 spaces. As you enter the area there's a water fountain for children to play, surrounded by benches for the parents to sit and watch. Dogs are allowed on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Dogs must be leashed.

A beautiful public beach. They also have free parking nearby. The beach is clean and the white sands are nice. The ocean also was not very rough so you could go into the surf without fear. Lifeguards are present as well. They have chairs and umbrellas for rent. The walk to the beach is well cared for and the plaza is also clean and inviting. Public restrooms are also clean.

Great little park with restrooms, well-maintained paths around the park with great access to the ocean. Large parking lot located right across the street. Benches, great artwork, incredible landscaping, and a large fountain. Highly recommend you visit here. Great place for a picnic or family event. Was not too crowded when we were here. Park is wheelchair accessible with a great entrance, parking lot and restroom

A beautiful fine-sand beach with excellent amenities, including plentiful free parking, wifi hotspot, restrooms, rinse stations, even a bicycle tool and air up station! The park is located near Coligny Plaza Shopping, so you can walk the beach and then easily stroll to one of the many excellent restaurants very nearby. The beach is very clean and well kept, even includes a large shared toy box for the kids. Dog friendly, and typically not too crowded, at least in October when we like to visit. The views are beautiful, and you might see a fishing boat troll by. My favorite east coast beach by far. Free wifi and parking. Wheelchair accessible with a well maintained roll-out boardwalk to the sand. Miles of beach in each direction.

We went to this beach for the family vacation. It’s just a short walk from most rentals, safe, family-friendly, and never feels too crowded. The sand is soft and clean, perfect for walking barefoot, and even on cloudy days the weather stays mild. The water and waves are warm and gentle, making it a great spot to swim or just relax.
Sondra F — Google review
The perfect beach. There’s plenty of room. Nice water and nice sand. I need to come back this summer when the water is warmer. The bathrooms are extremely nice and parking is free!!!

The terrain of the beach is flat so you can walk atleast a hundred meters into the ocean, calm waves and white sand. One of the cleanest beach i visited so far. Great facilities for visitors like changing rooms, shower facility, a shack on the beach and lots more. Clean and green and ample parking space.

These were really nice trails in the woods, very peaceful and nice. Families, people walking dogs there. Can get a little desolate. Spotted lots of turtles and an alligator. Really liked it, great place to walk off a meal. $9 per car to enter the area. Were no restrooms by trails we were at, may have been some elsewhere in the area.

Went during the week day. Very nice and beautiful! Saw alligators and lots of other wildlife! We had a Sea pines pass to get in not sure what protocol is used if you don't have a pass.

Beautiful park with so much to do! There's plenty of trails to explore throughout the preserve with abundant wildlife! Make sure if you're walking the trails to bring plenty of BUG SPRAY!!! The mosquitoes on the preserve are from Jurassic Park, so be prepared! Plenty of turtles and a few gator sightings as well! Kids had a great time!
Chris B — Google review
The forest preserve was very nice and peaceful. There is a driving entrance and a walking entrance. The driving entrance allows you to drive your car around the preserve. The walking entrance allows you to park your car so you can get out and walk along the trails and boardwalks. From what we saw, it looks like you can also rent bikes and book a horse ride. It is $9 to enter the Sea Pines area.

We went for a nature walk with hopes to see some gators and we got both! I do suggest grabbing a map before taking the walking trails bc it was confusing on the way back from Lake Joe. We didn't get a map until the way back where we made a wrong turn and walked for a long time before figuring out way out. But it was fun and beautiful sunny weather so we didn't mind. There is informational brochures at the parking area as well as the maps. And a lot of cool informational posts throughout the walk. We had a blast! It's so beautiful and very well kept!

We just had the most amazing alligator tour in Hilton Head with Anthony, our incredible guide! He’s a 6th grade science teacher, a master naturalist, and even wrote a book about the local nature—which shows in every part of the experience. The tour takes you out on a very safe boat where you get up close with the area’s wildlife. We saw alligators, turtles, birds, and even snakes (we got to hold a small one!). Anthony’s knowledge and enthusiasm made it fun and educational for everyone. It’s the perfect adventure for families—we brought our 8-year-old niece, and she was fascinated the entire time. Can’t recommend this tour enough!

A very nice hiking trail. There is a boardwalk that takes you through a swampy area. We saw quite a few turtles as we walked this area. The hiking trails are not very long and it was not too hot, so it made for an enjoyable walk.

Trail numbered but maps not. Parking ok but not great and no restrooms so be prepared. Some paved and traveled trails and boardwalk. Heard many birds didn't see but 2 or 3. Great views of nature and island vegetation. Definitely need better maps and markings to follow.

Very well maintained, family-friendly park with a nice scenic view of the marsh and Broad Creek. There are plenty of seating areas along with covered picnic tables. There are normally food vendors in the area, so there is no need to worry about going hungry. Nice playground for the kids. Shelter Cove Community Park is a very well-designed shopping center, community park for the whole family to enjoy. All of the photos were taken on our recent visit at Christmas and the park is just beautiful! The playground is great with rubber mulch and very cushioned for wild kids like mine:). Large grass area to run around or picnic with the family. Hilton Head puts on events there all the time such as movie nights under the stars, snow at the beach, 4th of July celebrations etc. Check with the community calendar to make sure you don't miss out on any of the great events going on there. This is a park we often take people that come to the beach to visit us. They always seem to maintain the park very well and we will continue to go there as it is just a great place to hang out, walk around, shop, eat, date night and of course go and see Santa Clause at Christmas!

This was one of our favorite stops as a family on our day-long biking trip! Beautiful waterfront views and a very well put-together park with lots of seating, a very nice playground (with video surveillance), and restrooms. This park is right next to the French Bakery and other good eateries.

This is a real gem on HHI. A great place to visit for its interesting features about island history, local gift items and the spectacular grounds and gardens. We visited twice on our family vacation and are so glad we did. Our first visit was for the creature craft which was free, just a quick cute craft of a sea turtle. Really enjoyable for our four year old. We did the scavenger hunt outside afterward and learned a lot about the area! Our second visit was for the farmers market and face painting. A great market, many different vendors: local farmers with lots of produce, popsicles, animal goods, soaps, scrubs, handmade goods and more. Highly recommend visiting. The face painter was really sweet and did a great job.

What a fantastic museum. 2 year old daughter loved every minute of it. The walk is beautiful, and very interesting with the history and information on the wildlife and plants. Would have happily paid entry to these grounds, however it is free. They have optional donation box so we were able to donate. We didn’t have the time but I think you could spend almost an entire day here to see everything.

Great place to walk around, lots to see. Very educational. No Alligators as shown, because it's salt water. Nice artwork for sale in museum area. No food, just some snacks. Worth a look.

My adult children, 4 year old grandson and my husband and I enjoyed it very much. There is so much to see and learn about the coastal wetlands and it is free for everyone. We were given a list of questions that could be answered at numbered stops on the trail. I enjoyed watching my grandson looking for the answers to the questions about the marshes and the animals that live there.

This is a nice diversion from Hilton Head Island activities. There is a museum in the main house and a walking trail through the grounds. There are many gardens to explore and they have a butterfly house. They even have a piece of a titan rocket that was found washed ashore and is now on display. Staff were friendly and the hike was relaxing. Admission is free but they do accept donations.

we loved it. we learned a lot about Hilton Head Island and its origins. we also learned abouts terrapins, horseshoe crabs, the American alligator and hermit crabs. we enjoyed the butterfly conservatory and walking around the property. total A+ experience.

Lovely free museum, with huge grounds full of stuff to check out like a butterfly garden, carnivorous plant garden, and a whole boardwalk. Unfortunately, it was raining that day so we could only enjoy the Discovery House. But there's plenty to do in there that took up about an hour and a half... Lots of exhibits to view, Myrtle the turtle, gift shop, and a lovely bee photography show.

Beautiful location to walk and bike. The ibis pond was really stunning to see hundreds of the beautiful birds nesting in the trees. Bikes are allowed on the trails, but I'd recommend sticking to the gravel for casual riders, because the grass and dirt trails require a lot more effort.

We think we keep coming on off days. Once in the month of November and again in January. Very vast preserve and well set out trails. Plenty of parking. Never saw much. Beautiful trees.
Todd N — Google review
Great walk along the shore, through the woods or both. Stunning scenery and abundant, varied wildlife. Certainly well worth a couple hours or more of your time.
Craig J — Google review
Beautiful park with an expansive nature trail system. It also has lots of ponds and is great for bird watching. It is best to explore the park by bike so you can get the most of it. A few areas were muddy and flooded (there was extensive rainfall the previous days) but we were able to get by on the bikes, where as the hikers had to turn back. We were able to explore the whole park, at a leisure biking pace, from 10 am to 3 pm. We made it all the way to White Point and it was worth it; the view did not disappoint. Don't bother going to Dick Point Pond. The trail is a bit unkempt, muddy and challenging. There are no restrooms or drinking water in the park. Parking is limited since this seems to be a popular park. Definitely worth a visit, whether you bike or hike.
Candela_ M — Google review
A great place to spend a few hours and connect with nature. Take time to stop along the way to look for birds and wildlife. The park has enough parking space and it can get filled up on a nice day. Good for both biking and walking. Plan to spend about half a day.

Our family loves to come here to explore!! Bring your walking shoes and a camera! Lots of neat photo spots here, bird watching, crabs. There is a swamp with gators in it that you can walk around very neat place to explore. Kids love it. The path is not concrete so off road stroller would be best for younger kids.

It was kind of chilly when we went. Had the weather been a bit warmer it could have been better but that just limits my ability to review. We didn't get as far as I would have liked but what we did walk was very flat and smooth. Off the main trail and it can get a little more rugged but no worries it's not the mountains! The weather my have limited our wildlife viewing and we only saw a crab but the views are good and we had a good time. Great place to burn some energy with the kids.

My family enjoyed our visit tremendously. Once you enter the parking area, there are maps/guides to pick up, and the trails are well maintained. We saw several species of birds, crabs, and even an alligator. I walked and the rest of my family biked. We all had a good time. Make sure to bring bug spray, though. Even in October, the mosquitoes were biting. Thankfully a nice couple shared their bug spray.

Perfect place for a long walks. Plenty of wild life to see. The easiest to spot are birds but with little patient and luck you can see so many other creatures ..even alligators. Detailed, ilustrated signs provide information throughout the whole area about different life forms you can encounter on your walk. Well marked paths are easy to follow and there is no chance to get lost

An incredibly beautiful Beach and one of the best I've visited. Having visited beaches in Costa Rica and Antigua, this is up with the best of them. Due to a tornado many years ago, it gives the beach a unique tropical look, mixed in with an abundance of wildlife this is a must see in south Carolina.

Beautiful park! The history of the lighthouse is amazing. Cute playground for kids to play on. The marsh walk was easy & lots of birds. The boneyard was amazing! So beautiful! A bit of a walk from the pier parking lot, but well worth it.

Fantastic course, cruised right through my round no waiting at all, I thought the greens were in great great shape. I didn't see a blade or patch of poanna anywhere. Long course too from the blues, some of the par 4s holes require a mighty approach very fun and challenging, but as mentioned great wide open Fazio design allows you to crank it off the tee. Only complaint was one sand trap that was like muddy on one hole, I think 17, but that was after some mighty rains. Overall amazing course for the buck I will definitely be back. Also has a 6 hole par 3 course to practice apparently thats great for family learning rounds. Awesome course and on GolfNow app for hot deal discounts.

Great staff, pretty course. However, bring your patience! Sitting on each tee box for 10 minutes watching the 4some in front of us hit 3 balls a piece. 3 guys in the clubs house and no one can get out here and range? THE 4 SOME in front of them is on pace...akkkkkkkkk 4hrs, just got to hole #15...

Was visiting from Florida and made a tee time on a Friday afternoon for 9am Saturday morning. Got there and it was closed due to recent rain. They didn’t take my email or anything to let us know. A lady at the clubhouse was there when we arrived and said they decided to close and emailed everyone to let them know.. She said the course was in good shape and didn’t want play on it while it was wet. Understandble, but figured they’d at least offer us to walk 9. Course did look great though.
Nicholas C — Google review
The course was in good shape when we played, with decently-maintained fairways and greens. The layout features wide open fairways, making it a forgiving course off the tee. Many holes have no homes along them, giving the course a more natural, spacious feel and a peaceful playing experience. Will be back enjoyed it!!

Title: This course discriminated against my mother and made her cry. I want to start by saying my family and I have played this course multple times in the past, and have liked it. It's a good bang for your buck and usually in decent shape. But I cannot recommend coming here with how we were treated and how my mother was discriminated against. It had rained the previous day and was cart path only. Conditions were wet, but not unplayable or dangerous. That is not a problem for me and my father, we were more than willing to comply with that. My mother, however, is ADA protected, and she would need assistance. Golf courses are still required to be ADA compliant under Title III and are required to make reasonable accommodations, even when it is cart path only. The DOJ has stated as such as well, allowing those under ADA protection to use carts even if cart path only, as it would not fundamentally alter the service and it qualifies as a reasonable accommodation. And again, we were only asking for her, as she was only playing 9, while me and my father would abide by cart path only rules. When I spoke to the women at the desk, she flat out said no, they would not allow that. And if that was going to be a problem with us, then she would not be able to play. This being a weekend, the superintendent was not present for me to speak to. When we spoke with the marshall at the start, we explained that she would need help, and at first, he was very accommodating. He understood, he gave her permission, and that was that we thought. We tee off and are halfway through the 1st hole when the same marshall comes back. This time, he comes with an immediate attitude, visibly angry and a macho, tough guy tone. He comes over, and now tells us that the course will not allow her to take the cart out, and forces her to either be on the cart path, or to leave the course. Mind you, all we had done up to then, was bring the cart into the rough, we weren't even going to drive it on the fairway or up to the green, and we were doing so with his initial permission. When we had asked for the handicap flag she could put on her cart, he insisted they didn't have any, and basically told her to get off the course. I don't even understand why he came back so heated, considering the last time we spoke with him he was going to allow it and we were just doing what he initially gave us the green light for. Yet he acted like we just spat in his cereal. But here's the kicker. My mother insists we keep playing for the 18 we paid for, and she goes to the clubhouse to get her money back for the round. As soon as the women at the desk (same one I had spoken to) refunds her, THEN she drops the fact that she messaged the superintendent, and he said that he would allow her to drive the cart onto the course. At that point, my mother wanted nothing to do with them. She left the course, and she ended up crying on her way home because of the callousness of the staff and the discriminatory behavior she faced. She was berated and embarrassed, and only after giving back her money and cancelling her round, did they say "Oh yeah, turns out you can play after all." It was like finding out just when you paid that they aerated the greens. They withheld that bit of info with intent. And then, after the round, when we spoke to a different marshall, not only did he confirm that she should have been allowed to play, but that they HAD handicap flags for the cart that she could have put on. It was unfortunate to have the staff treat her this way, and I would please encourage the management of this course do better when it comes to training their staff on proper ADA compliance going forward. Signed, a longtime and now former customer. Apologies, but with the way I saw my mother get treated, I don't think any of us will be back anytime soon, if ever. Far too many courses around here to play.
Jack D — Google review
The layout is nice. The conditions are questionable. The tee boxes need work and the greens loaded with crab grass, effecting putting. Course needs serious maintenance.
The P — Google review
Fun course, with challenging approach shots throughout the back 9. I’ve played here twice now and Connie has been awesome! She goes out of her way to make sure we have what we need to have a great round.

The course has improved greatly. Hopefully, they will keep it up. Beautiful layout and friendly staff.

Nature & Parks
Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park is a celebrated riverfront park located in the Historic District of Beaufort, offering picturesque views and green spaces. Named after former mayor Henry C. Chambers, the park features a playground, stage for performances, and pet-friendly facilities. Visitors can enjoy activities such as fishing, walking/jogging along the trail, and watching for dolphins along the seawall. The park also provides open green space with bench swings and play structures for kids near the Woods Memorial Bridge.
Great place for a stroll in the evening. There are swings along the waterfront overlooking the water that helps keep the pace slower. You can get a bite to eat or do a bit of on the street side. Occasionally music or festivals can be had here. There is a great playground for the kids both little and older.
Mike L — Google review
The park was very beautiful and handy to the restaurants and shops. You could have the view from the waterfront and the marina. Unfortunately the walkway by the waterfront was closed. Apparently there's some safety issues there with washout or something so you couldn't walk right against the edge. Even so, the park still had a lot of space and beautiful trees and flowers. So it was still a nice little walk and there were public restrooms in one section. So that was nice to have available as well.
Lisa B — Google review
Inviting, friendly, very clean, extremely relaxing. I went to the Lowcountry Music Festival 6/7/25. Good variety of music, plenty of space to relax. Many food vendors, watch the boats sail away, eat, drinks, a few officers in view. Limited parking. Had to park a few blocks away from river. Many shops and little boutiques. Overall a great experience! Will visit Beaufort again!
Sherrie P — Google review
This park offers many amenities for the young, old and in between. The kiddos gate to the slides and swings squeaks VERY ANNOYINGLY loud on purpose!!! I promise you when you hear it you're gonna think why won't they get some WD 40 for this gate. But it's an effective SAFETY feature to keep the kids safely inside the play area. There's live country music at certain times. Lots of restaurants and dessert parlors to enjoy. Many places to sit and watch the lovely boats dock while enjoying your meal. There's a parking lot, plus paid parking on the streets. If you're an athlete enthusist there's a bridge close by that crosses the river. It's available to walk or run across the bridge for extreme exercise. For those that enjoy mild exercise a walk on the parks pathways while enjoying the river breeze is very relaxing. Many benches and tables are scattered here and there in the park for those that tire quickly. Plaques and statues in the park provide historical knowledge to everyone whose interested in the culture and history of the area. A day spent here in the park will be a good day for any family. Every age group will be satisfied with this park and it's treasures.

Great little park with free parking. Large grass area, benches, tree swings. This park has lots of shade. It is right on the water, and there is a public boat dock. Also clean restrooms.

Great little area to go for a walk. There is multiple restaurants to pick from if you want a bite to eat with great views. The restaurant I went to allowed my dog to come with me. The only thing that bummed me out is the walkway closest to the water was blocked off this time.

The Parish Church of St. Helena, established in 1712 and built in 1724, is among the oldest active churches in the United States. This Anglican church has been attended by numerous wealthy and prominent citizens of Beaufort since its founding. The church's cemetery holds the graves of notable figures such as Thomas Heyward Jr.
I have family members buried at this church, so it's always nice to visit when I'm in the area. It's very beautiful and peaceful as well as historical.

I would like to thank the gentleman that gave my wife and I a tour through the cemetery. I can't recall his name but he was from the Rochester NY vicinity. He was very kind and knowledgeable regarding the cemetery and church history. He took his time and answered any questions we had, all on his own time. He is definitely an asset to the church and the city of Beaufort. THANK YOU NERY MUCH SIR.!!!

Edisto Island Historic Preservation

Museum
Specialty Museums
This museum provides exhibits, artwork, artifacts & events that detail the community's long history.
Many historic photos. The photos and description of the process of dismantling and moving the slave cabin from Edisto Island to the Smithsonian's National Museum of African-American History and Culture is interesting. Tries to present a balanced SC Low Country history, despite the long and recent reign of segregation. Less effort is given to indigenous cultures (no land acknowledgment, for instance). Note: handicapped access, while provided, is challenging due to types of surfaces.

The museum is a small masterpiece of history on the island. The gentleman in charge on the day we visited was so knowledgeable and helpful. It is something the island can be very proud of.

My wife and I and 4 Grandkids went to the museum yesterday and I will say that it's hard to get a 7 and 9 year old attention, but the lady that worked there was great, she took her time and explained so much history and interacted with the kids great. This is one of the best small museums I've ever visited. They change displays every so often that repeat visits don't seem repetitive. The staff is very friendly and the professional quality of the displays is most impressive. This museum is certainly worth the time to visit if you're in the area.

Lovely, knowledgeable docent helped answer questions. Lots of written information labeling displays. Amazing Native American artifacts from the local area on display. Intricate handmade diorama. Salvaged parts of a wooden cabin once home to slave families in the area is very thought provoking. Glad such care has been taken to preserve these artifacts and tell stories.

King's Farm Market is a sixth-generation family farm and market that offers a variety of freshly picked produce, flowers, jarred goods, cakes, pies, and take-and-bake items. It's the perfect stop for those planning a weekend getaway or returning from a day at the beach. Visitors rave about their delicious quiches and key lime pie. The market also offers forgotten southern low country family favorites dishes that were common in the area a hundred years ago.
Some items (eggs and meat) are priced high but good quality. They have some really great produce options that are local. Get their heirloom tomatoes and cucumbers! Watermelon is okay. Ice cream is amazing when it’s in stock. The best item you can buy is their flaky key lime pie which is amazing.
Robbie F — Google review
I came out to Edisto for my Birthday and was craving boiled peanuts that I didn’t have to make myself for the beach stay. As we passed by I asked my husband to turn around because surely a place like this sold boiled peanuts. It just had that look and sure enough when we did , there was the sign! Everything was what you want to find in a farm stand , from local produce, canned mason jar goodies , fridge and freezers packed with prepared treasures like Tomato Pie , Crab Dip , local eggs , etc . The T-Shirts were just darlin. My only complaint was the very thing we turned around for . Unfortunately the boiled peanuts were more like peanut jerky. When I returned on my way back through , I brought them back and the cashier refunded my money. So try before you until they get their boiled peanuts back on track . I’m sure they aren’t always bad, judging by some of the previous reviews . I’m sure their boiled peanuts are usually purrrrrrfect. I mean a place like this that also has an adorable and affectionate shop cat ?!?! They too can have an off day like the most of us .

Love the key lime pie and the pluff mud dessert! Freshly boiled peanuts, fresh produce, ready-made casseroles (frozen, ready-to-cook) and glass bottle sodas make this a fun stop on every trip to Edisto. My friend fell in love with Peanut, the cat (pictured).

This little hole in the wall is truly an amazing place. You'll feel like you've been transported to an earlier time, when life was simple and the coffee was delicious...long before 'Sixbucks' and those other expensive places! I try to stop here on every road trip to and from Charleston. It is truly such a gem. Their provisions are amazing! And they carry Carolina Gold rice which in my opinion is a relic of Southern American culture. It is delicious, buy it! The gifts, pastries and coffee at Clockwise should also not be missed. It is such a lovely spot to let the kids bounce around outside, do some shopping and just take a break from the car. Every corner is interesting and fun and I never leave empty handed!

Well worth the slight detour off the route between Savannah and Charleston. It‘s a really peaceful little place with beautiful old trees and quite the history. A place where you definitely find yourself ruminating on history and all the things humans do.

A beautiful church where you can stop for a breath of fresh air along the way. You can enjoy the beautiful trees, the silence, and the peace. And of course, you can enjoy the tranquility. If you have small children, you can show them how to pump water from the well on the right of the entrance. They'll have a lot of fun. It's also possible to take a journey into history. You can park your car in the parking lot across the street.

A very interesting stop after leaving Edisto Island. The church ruins were empty, after a brief rain. Not even a mosquito; and this was July! The place takes you back in time. A lot of history here. Worth stopping.

Nicely maintained spot. Several headstones scattered about with varying degrees of maintenance. Picnic tables and an old timey water pump that works. Be mindful of this road and the way people drive here, way too fast. There is a parking area across the road which isn’t obvious at first. Some parking on the road but I don’t recommend it.
Sarah B — Google review
Absolutely beautiful landmark. Definitely worth the stop to view the ruins and visit a few of the graves of pioneers that settled there. Nice picnic area off to the side, parking across the road. Interesting that the hand pump on the well inside the gate still pumps water, can just imagine pumping water for the horses while families attended church 170 years ago

Absolutely love driving and seeing something that looks cool and turning around to check it out. This unplanned stop had a lot of history and was very well taken care of. This is the ruins of an old church, older than this country and gravesites that date back as far as the 1700's. Easy parking.

Park at Lake Marion offering hiking trails, boating & fishing also has campsites & cabins for rent.
Tent camped in the Lake Shore Campground. Incredibly clean facilities and enough bathrooms that it didn't feel overcrowded or worried about having to wait. Lake access was very convenient. Camp store and welcome center had plenty of snacks, drinks, and anything you forgot for your stay. The information in the welcome center about the history of the area was very interesting to see. One thing to note - Lake Shore Campground is a bit far from the welcome center, camp store, and trails - so Cypress Campground might be more convenient and where I will stay next time if I have the chance.

Beautiful spot to camp, right on the lake, the kids had a blast. We will definitely be back. Come prepared for the bugs though, since it’s close to the water the mosquitos were prevalent. A Thermacell will help keep them at bay.

Great Lake views, campsites’ electrical and water hookups work properly. No the campground is not level, no there are not perfectly pristine cement rectangular sites🤷🏼‍♀️ who cares??? Great hiking trails, Fishing, Picnic areas, Playground . Beautiful place. No swimming area. Beware snakes when hiking. They put cones out on the trail to warn snakes were spotted in that area. Which I thought was helpful. (They were still right there.) So cool. Just took a picture and keep on moving so I didn't bother it.

Beautiful park! Very well maintained and lots of trails to explore. The ranger in the welcome station office, I belive his name was Sanders, was incredibly nice and helpful! Great employee!

One of my favorite parks so far in South Carolina. It has everything. Canoeing, Miles of hiking trails, campgrounds, cabins, and some exotic wildlife (I mean Gators Lol). Highly recommend Poinsett Park.

I enjoyed hiking the Coquina Trail and would say it is easy to moderate! It was a well maintained park and trail and the staff person was kind and helpful.

A pretty park. I'd like to give them 5 stars. Unfortunately, I cannot because they discriminate against Not SC seniors. They charge them twice as much as they charge the SC seniors. That's strange and unfair. But the park is pretty. See my pictures.

Great park! Rent a kayak or boat and cruise the lake, or walk one of the trails. There are cabins to rent or use one of the shelters for a picnic. A very peaceful setting.

Beautiful area. I would also like to clarify a few things that I had questions about: -There is a drop box at the gate with instructions that make it sound like you need to pay cash, however if the office/gift shop is open (directory signs to the office are clearly labeled), you can pay card there. Admission is $3 -Pets are allowed -You can rent paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and small (non-motorized) fishing boats at the office if they are open, or you can bring your own non motorized watercraft (it may not be motorized and it must be small enough that you or your party can carry it from the parking lot to the lake). -There is a swimming area in the lake, but it is currently closed (as of October 2025). -Fishing is permitted (neither fishing nor boating are permitted in the swimming area). -This is a great place for biking, hiking, boating, fishing, and camping -Cabin camping is available. I believe that RV and tent camping is also an option. Camping should be booked in advance. -There is a gift shop with concessions.

Beautiful park with trails, a lake, camping, and a number of shelters. The office/store is only open a couple of hours a day, though.

Nature & Parks
Congaree National Park is a stunning natural haven that showcases a vast hardwood forest, complete with an array of hiking trails and serene creeks perfect for canoeing and fishing. Nature enthusiasts will be thrilled by the diverse wildlife, including owls, alligators, raccoons, and various bird species. The park's towering trees are truly awe-inspiring! For those keen on identifying flora and fauna, apps like Merlin for birds and Picture This for plants can enhance your experience.
It was a great day for a walk along the boardwalk—temperatures in the high 70s with a slight overcast. The park’s mosquito alert level was set to mild. There are plenty of trails to explore, and the natural beauty is well preserved. Ample parking is available, and both entrance and parking are free. Located just a few minutes from Columbia, it’s definitely worth a visit when in South Carolina.

Hiked a few trails here and it was beautiful!! Nicely maintained even on the more difficult trails. They're currently working on half of the board walk so it was closed but the side that has been refinished is wonderful!

My first national park visit in the US! Lovely place! Private kayaking available which gives you the true experience of the place. Loved every bit of it! Whether you are looking for a casual stroll, or looking for a long hike, this place has it all. Truly blissful experience deep into nature. Highly recommend visiting here during spring and enjoy kayaking!

Let me tell you something. This place right here is free and one of the best places to take your whole family on a hike and a picnic. Plenty of parking. Plenty of pavilions with picnic table under them. Eat lunch or breakfast or early dinner. Whatever works for you. Bathrooms are always super clean. Cute store with lots of souvenirs to buy and options. Also store has very good information on the park and all the cute creatures you might see on your wall. Can't stop going back to this place. So proud! So happy with the staff. Let maintain this place. They do such a great job. They make it easy to want to be outdoors.

It is a large National Park. Not a park I was familiar with until we went to South Carolina. The Park Service has done a wonderful job with the boardwalk. We went on the path that was over a mile long. We saw some wildlife. We saw a millipede that is pictured. We saw a couple of turtles in the swampy area. A naturalist working there pointed out an owl, alligator, ibis and a couple of alligator gar. Everything but the owl, turtles and skink were at the end area that is an observation deck. It was well worth our time and they also had a nice visitors center you must check out.

Great national park and one of the most unique I have visited. The boardwalk loop was very nice, even though part of it was closed. Plenty of wildlife and plants to see including the bald cypress. Mosquitos were fine, but the horseflies were a bit annoying. The visitor center was nice and the rangers were helpful. 5 stars :)

While not the most majestic national park, Congaree was a magical and unique park to visit! Walking the boardwalk was very peaceful and you can almost full a unique energy to the park. It was definitely worth visiting! Unfortunately I did not see too much wild life but hope to come back one day and explore more the park. And maybe explore more of it when it is more wet! I went in early July and thankfully the mosquitoes were actually not bad at all so it can definitely be a hit or miss in terms of how many mosquitoes you run into!

Really interesting place. They have some huge spiders, the big ones are mostly harmless. See pictures below of one spinning her web. Walking path thru the trees. Wheelchairs can go through, which I thought was great. It is buggy so bring spray. You can see the fireflies at night from what I am told. We went in the day time.
