Simple rooms in a Mexican-themed resort with a theme park & a sombrero-shaped observation tower.
The room was huge, extremely clean. I used to be a professional housekeeper and can find the dirt anywhere. This place is spotless. The beds were very comfortable, its dated but I kinda of enjoy that retro feel. I love the pool options. They have a beautiful indoor poor with the dome over it and a really nice outdoor pool with tons of lounge space. I would 100 percent come here again.

I remember going here as a kid and it is still as pristine and enchanting today. The only down side is that society as a whole doesn't appreciate the simpler and cheesy nature of life 20 years ago. Too bad because there is still so much fun and memories to be hard here. The buildings and restrooms were to notch in appearance and cleanliness. We'll worth taking the time to take selfies with the many quirky statues and props. Go here to make a few memories with your family and remember the nostalgia.
Ronald B — Google review
Not a 5 star place but my room was huge, very clean and a comfy bed. The village is a fantastic little tourist trap. Had a great breakfast at the place next to the gift shop and a really good steak under the sombrero... you should spend a day here just to say you did it, tell your kids Disney world was closed and that was the #2 option
Philip W — Google review
Kids loved it. I definitely enjoyed buying things. All different types of things. The cleanliness, the feeling the experience brings and the level of enjoying South Carolina.

A Stay to Remember… for All the Wrong Reasons 1. Wi-Fi in the room? Nope. I got so pruney sitting by the pool just trying to check my emails. 2. Hours of operation: We know it’s off-season, but shutting down almost everything at 7 p.m.? Meanwhile, fireworks are 24/7? Make it make sense. 3. Amenities: The shampoo provided was enough to wash exactly one butt cheek. 4. Toilet paper: Felt like sandpaper on my poor behind. Please invest in Charmin Extra Strong—your guests will thank you. 5. The TV situation: Pretty sure I needed a telescope. Was that a 26-inch screen? Walmart has 40-inch models on sale. Just saying. 6. The bed: I didn’t realize I’d booked a stay with the Flintstones. The bed was harder than a slab of granite. 7. Check-in: The new front desk staff couldn’t find my reservation. After digging through my junk email they finally located it. We got a parking pass but no directions, so we looped around like idiots. #TrainingNeeded 8. Gift shop: Decent, but please restock your light-up keychains. Out of N’s, R’s, and L’s! 9. Cultural note: Not a single Mexican in sight. Was hoping to see at least one of my fellow people. #Latino #MiRaza 10. Activities: No mini-golf? Missed opportunity. 11. Room privacy: The blinds didn’t close all the way. Had I not changed in the bathroom, my “hot bod” could’ve been a free show. 12. Phone book nostalgia: Found a Yellow Pages from 2013. Fun trip down memory lane, but maybe update it? Half those numbers probably belong to ghosts now. 13. Coffee tragedy: The Folgers machine nearly scalded me. Then the powdered creamer looked suspiciously like crushed Tums tablets. Might want to check those expiration dates. --- Final thoughts: Between the Flintstone mattress, the single-cheek shampoo, and the Tums creamer, this stay was one for the books. Would I come back? Only if the Wi-Fi reaches the room and the toilet paper stops waging war on my butt.
Ramon S — Google review
I had a pool pass. The place was empty. I had a lovely swim for at least 20 min. The water was refreshing, not overly warm. The place could use some cleaning/painting. It felt like an abandoned gem. The geodesic dome is really nice from the water

Really enjoyed my stay. Room was HUGE. It's very quiet .it's old school and cozy. This is where I like to stay , instead of modern boring hotels that are popping up everywhere . Parking is very convenient . Friendly staff. Clean, beds and sheets are so comfortable . The room is spacious and at a great price.
Tiff T — Google review
Had a great time and haven't been there since the 70s. The rooms are dated but it was great overall just because it brought back memories as it child going on vacation and staying there with my family. It would be nice to say all of the rooms updated like some of them had been renovated but the ones we were in if there was any renovation done it was very minimal. Thank you for the wonderful stay and the wonderful memories but I had staying there with my sister and I traveling to Florida.

Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens

Sights & Landmarks
Farm
Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens is a historic working plantation that has been growing crops for over 320 years. It is famous for its moss-draped Avenue of Oaks and original slave cabins, offering visitors a glimpse into the South's rich history. The plantation has gained popularity as a filming location for movies like The Notebook and Forrest Gump, as well as being the site of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' wedding.
INFORMATIVE AND HUMBLING. Great visit. Everyone was so friendly and professional and a warm welcome in the visitor center. MARK gave a great tour of the house and his wife HEATHER of life at the plantation. Please make time for the GULLAH talk. It’s truly humbling as the modern generation of the slaves that were abducted from Africa tell of the trip to the USA and how they settled in arduous conditions. The cafe staff were friendly and the pimento cheese sandwich was delicious. In summary, picturesque and great value.
Neil E — Google review
We only had the time to visit one plantation home while in Savannah and I chose to visit Boone Hall over the others because of the live presentations they offer, beautiful garden and infamous drive up to the house - which was absolutely breathtaking! There are many places on the property for photo opps and you truly have a day’s worth of activities to choose from. If going just to tour an old plantation home this probably isn’t the place for you as you are only allowed on the lower level of the house and the tour is rather quick. An informative ride around the property is included, as well as several live presentations/talks. Everything is very well organized and visiting doesn’t require too much walking. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend!
Ell T — Google review
Great day spent here. Ticket price includes all tours, which was nice. It was a beautiful day to spend outdoors. All the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The Gullah presentation was interesting, the house was full of antiques and the gardens were full of life. Butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds

We learned a lot about American history while visiting the Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens. The grounds and buildings are beautifully maintained. Both walking and riding tours are available. There's a cafe and gift shop available on the grounds where you can catch a quick bite to eat. The staff and guides are friendly and helpful. Every aspect of life on the plantation is presented in a meaningful way. We're so glad we decided to stop by for a visit.
Fran C — Google review
This was a recommended plantation tour from our hotel and I highly recommend it as well. That incredible history starts when you first pull in under a canopy of oak trees that are over 300 years old. You’ll recognize them from the movies. We took one of the Tractor tours throughout the property and the friendly tour guide gave us all the Rich history of the plantation from the past 400 years which was fascinating. They have a little restaurant and convenience store on the property plus a gift shop. I recommend touring through the slave homes and learning many different facets of life during that period. They insightfully and respectfully took you through history while also honoring so many. The mansion tour was rather interesting also - learning about the several plantation owners’ stories. Take a moment to tour the gardens (floral and butterfly) that help complete this great landmark.

Boone Hall Plantation has been one of the highlights of our trip (2025). With the government shutdown of national parks, we've been forced to seek out state and privately-operated attractions. When I Googled "best southern plantations to visit," Boone Hall Plantation was #1! After visiting, I wholeheartedly agree. The cost is reasonable. Admission includes entrance, parking, the house tour, a wagon ride through the estate, various presentations on historical topics, plus time to wander about. (Personally, the presentation on Gullah culture was my favorite.) Whatever your interest is in plantation life, you will not be disappointed. The staff members are fantastic! They are knowledgeable, courteous, and inject well-timed humor in their interactions with the guests. You are able to experience as little or as much of life at Boone Hall as you wish. A bit of advice: as soon as you arrive, go to the guest center. Speak to the representative at the desk and (s)he will schedule you on the next available tour. Fortunately, we just happened to do this and began our house tour within 20 minutes of arrival. Also, a bit of walking is involved. Walking on sandy paths is not easy for everyone. Boone Hall is a must see!
James G — Google review
I've visited three different plantations in the Charleston South Carolina area and by far this is my favorite. Take me to this is still a working farm but I expect tourism breaks in most of their dollars. Regardless in this place at least they have most of the original plantation buildings. They also have a lot of brief informational speakers that give you a background of both the plantation and the history of the area for the 400 years or so this plantation has been in existence. Regardless this place is beautiful so if you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by and checking it out.
Rick A — Google review
Honestly, there was another plantation in Charleston I wanted to visit, but they were closed, so Boone Hall came in second. The ticket price was around $40 or possibly less per person, especially with discounts like AAA, senior, or military. The drive in was a bit bumpy, so drive with caution, but we were happy to find parking right away. There were enough staff and signage to guide us easily around. Upon arrival, we first entered a building that serves as an information desk, where we learned about the history of cotton and found a small souvenir shop. The staff member was kind and asked how many in our party, offering helpful suggestions on what to see and do around the plantation. One highlight was the mini play at the Gilded Hall, it was very well done. I wish we had planned to arrive earlier in the day so we could explore more, but overall, it’s a lovely spot with rich history and beautiful grounds. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Cypress Gardens

Nature preserve
Nature & Parks
Swamp garden with giant cypress trees offering boat tours plus a butterfly house attraction.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic day at Cypress Gardens as a family of five! Despite the soaring temperatures of 93°F+, the experience was worth every moment. The admission was incredibly affordable at $10 for adults and $5 for kids. The highlight for us was the butterfly house, where we were surrounded by gorgeous butterflies fluttering all around us. The reptile house was equally impressive, showcasing unique reptiles like the Mata Mata turtle, snake-necked turtle, and a massive Anaconda! The absolute best part of our visit was the boat ride through the swamp. It was such a peaceful and wonderful experience, even in the heat! Since we arrived later in the day, we opted for a guided tour, which turned out to be amazing. Our guide was fabulous and shared a wealth of knowledge about the swamp and its wildlife. We appreciated not having to row ourselves, and we ended up tipping our guide for his kindness and expertise. A suggestion for future visitors: the self-guided boat rides fill up quickly, so as soon as you arrive, get in line using the QR code. We arrived after 12 PM and found ourselves at #20 in line, which is why we chose the guided tour. I highly recommend this option, as it runs every hour and was truly the highlight of our trip to Charleston. Overall, I would highly recommend Cypress Gardens to anyone looking for a memorable family outing!
Jennifer Z — Google review
We really enjoyed our visit! The 1.6-mile hike was beautiful, surrounded by cypress trees at every turn. We considered the boat rides, which looked amazing, but opted for the paved trail instead. The path eventually turns to gravel, but it was still stroller-friendly. At the entrance, there’s a nice play area for kids and toddlers to burn off some energy. After purchasing tickets, we didn’t need to show them again. The entrance area also has a small gift shop, bathrooms, a butterfly room, a reptile room, and more. We spent about two hours here and had a great time!
Andrew L — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (A million stars if I could!) Cypress Gardens was absolutely breathtaking! From the moment we arrived, the views felt straight out of a movie. The massive cypress trees reflecting in the still water created the most peaceful, magical backdrop for the wedding. The row boats were such a fun touch — gliding through the water surrounded by nature made for an unforgettable experience. The event space was clean, spacious, and perfect for a beautiful, elegant setup. The staff was kind and accommodating, and every part of the venue—from the butterfly house to the gardens to the boardwalk—was picture-perfect. If you’re looking for a venue that combines Southern charm, natural beauty, and a truly unique atmosphere, this is it. 10/10 recommend Cypress Gardens for any special event — it’s a hidden gem that deserves a million stars!
Travis G — Google review
This is a really cool place, being worth every penny. The 1.6-mile hike was beautiful with cypress trees at every corner; we even spotted a small-sized alligator swimming near the trail. We wanted to go on a boat, but we were too late, so come early if you want to go on a boat. At the entrance area there is a gift shop, a butterfly garden, an alligator enclosure, a building with some aquariums and terrariums with fish and reptiles, and a tropical bird exhibit. I would recommend this place.
Leo — Google review
This was our second visit to the Cypress Gardens and it was wonderful. The facilities and grounds are beautiful and maintained nicely. To me, for a family, this is a great day trip with just enough to do to never get bored, but also not so overwhelming that you feel you have to skip activities. Additionally, plenty of areas to bring your own food in and have a picnic, surrounded by beautiful scenery (but please, clean up after yourself!) The playground is very nice for most ages and the added splash pad looks adorable (though we did not use this time). We love to walk the trails and then end on a visit to the butterfly house and the serpentarium. I will say, we have never taken a boat out; on our first visit, it was rainy and my daughter didn't feel up to it. This time, the boats were booked up with a 3 hour wait, though they did tell us at the entrance before paying which was very helpful on their part. We did expect this though as it was Labor Day and we were sure they'd be packed. All this to say, SC is gorgeous and Cypress Gardens does terrific job of showcasing its natural beauty!
Melissa F — Google review
Was a very nice place. Paid $25 for two people. We got in instantly and looked at all of the enclosures. Butterfly exhibit was out favorite. We didn't have to wait long for the boat tour. Maybe 1hr at the latest. And in the meant of waiting, we walked around the swamp to the wedding gazebo. Very beautiful place. It was raining sadly, but it was still beautiful nonetheless.
Joshua H — Google review
I really hate to do this review, because I feel like I've found a true hidden gem. The price to enter is from the 1980's and I loved it. The amount of time you can spend here is immeasurable. It is the perfect destination for families. There is a butterfly house, a reptile house (hosting everything from snakes to fish to lizards and turtles), endless walking trails, a large playground, a new splash pad, rowboats for a swamp tour, and more. There are plenty of spaces to duck inside and "cool off" in the air conditioning. The staff is considerate and friendly. The sights and wildlife is amazing. I really don't have anything negative to say. I only wish we had more time in the day to explore.
David Y — Google review
Make sure you arrive early if you want to do the rowboats. The paid boats were sold out by 12:30 so we put our name on the list for the free self guided ones. We were told it would probably take ~5 hours to get to the front of the list from spot 60. A lot of people must have canceled because we managed to get on the very last boat after waiting 3 hours. The staff by the rowboats was amazing and helped keep spirits high! Dickie was really great - he was friendly and patient. He answered all of our questions. My number one birthday wish was riding in a rowboat and they made it happen. The rowboat was by far my favorite part of Cypress Gardens, but I loved walking around the swamp and the butterfly gardens as well. The reptile exhibit had a lot of cool animals.

Fortress
Museums
Fort Sumter National Monument, located in Charleston Harbor, is a significant historical site that played a pivotal role in the American Civil War. Accessible by boat, visitors can explore the ruins, gun emplacements, and a museum while learning about its place in American history. The fort saw the first shots of the Civil War when Confederate forces attacked it in 1861. Managed by the National Park Service, this nearly 200-year-old fort offers breathtaking views of downtown Charleston and the surrounding harbor.
Greatly enjoyed the ferry ride to and from the island, and of couse exploringthe island itself. It is a bit pricy but one has to take the ferry and historic site maintenance into account. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and had a sense of humor. Lots of cool history to see on the island itself,as well as seabirds and some cargo shipping going by. Some thought provoking exhibits in the visitor center as well. A nice, informative, relaxing excursion all round.
Emily B — Google review
Our national park ranger was amazing. We were there for the taking down of the flag, which was a cool thing to see, especially with a flag the size of the storm flag on the fort. The ferry ride was nice too. Plenty of places to sit in the shade and still see all around.
Brandy B — Google review
Well worth it. The guides were very passionate about history and getting out on the water to see the fort and surrounding islands was super cool! Price was right. We also saw dolphins on our journey. There is no bathroom on the fort so make sure you use it while on the ferry. Also a museum and gift shop.
Kristen G — Google review
I recommend calling ahead to make sure there is no school group booked when you are planning to go because they may be very loud and unruly (at least it was in my experience). Also, the ranger cannot give the regular tour speech and you will end up missing some interesting facts.
Manuela B — Google review
We visited this place by ferry and the volunteer was very nice and informative. They explained very well the history of the fort. In the fort you have old Canon and ammunition to see and also some unexploded bombs stuck in the walls (still there) of the fort. Once you are there, you can feel the emotions and spirit of the braves. Highly recommend
S. S — Google review
Awesome place to visit when you are in Charleston area. Rice history and great collection of stories, war artifacts in the museum. Scenic ferry ride and great view from the Fort.
Suhas D — Google review
Fort Sumter was a great experience and would recommend to anyone interested in American History. Remember to book your ferry tickets in advance, I chose the ferry that left from Liberty Square since it had move available time slots. If you take the first ferry of the day you get to experience the flag raising ceremony at the Fort itself which was cool. When on the ferry to the Fort, if the day is nice I would recommend sitting on the upper deck it has the better views of the harbor.
Jon M — Google review
We had a great time at Fort Sumter and on the ferry ride to and from the fort! The ferry ride is about 30 minutes each way and you get to spend an hour at the fort. The fort has a museum and a small gift shop. The park rangers are very knowledgeable and friendly. They will answer questions you may have and they ask you questions sometimes.

Families with kids will appreciate the open space and safe environment, while couples often stroll hand in hand along the waterfront. One of the best features is how welcoming and accessible the park is—it’s clean, pet-friendly, and just a short walk from downtown Charleston’s shops and restaurants. Whether you’re visiting for a short break or spending a whole afternoon, Waterfront Park offers a calm, scenic retreat that leaves you refreshed and inspired. Highly recommended!

Stopped by on recent visit to Charleston. Nice place to sit and relax while walking thru town. Park is very clean and beautiful views of waterway. Pretty cool that you are allowed to actually walk in the fountain’s water. This is not a large area but again, nice to stop and take a break.

What can I say it's a fountain? And it works, it does have a nice view and surroundings. It's hard to get a very outstanding picture. Because there are so many other people standing around, and the only reason why I actually stopped is because my wife was all excited about seeing it. Period if you go, you'll feel safe.Everything's clean, just straight up.Good time, especially with all the trees down the walkways.

Couldn’t take many photos because my phone ran out of battery during the walk, but it’s such a beautiful place to stroll with a dog. Lots of people were running, walking, and biking while enjoying the scenery. I was worried the weather might be cloudy, but thankfully it cleared up, even though it was quite windy. The Pineapple Fountain wasn’t as big as I expected, but it was still worth seeing. I didn’t want to wait in line, so I took a photo from the other side, haha. The tree-shaded areas and piers were beautiful, and the vast wetlands with ocean views were stunning! Since it was Sunday, parking was free.

Waterfront Park is such a fun park to walk through or sit down in for a little bit. It has the most beautiful view of the channel, where, on a lucky day, you can see the families of dolphins surfacing to come up for air. Of course, it also has the Pineapple Fountain, and the other spray fountain (not sure what it's called) that the kids love to play in in the summertime. The only downsides are that if you're driving there, parking can be a little hard to find, and it can be VERY muggy in the summer. Other than that, I love simply sitting in Waterfront Park and taking in all of the beautiful scenery.
John D — Google review
Beautiful and free to roam day or night. Lots of nice displays of monuments, art-sculptures, and beautiful homes. Great walking trail with piers to enjoy the water or fish. Lots of open green space to enjoy and a playground for the kids.
Robert F — Google review
Very beautiful! Great spot to visit! It’s really awesome to sit on a swing and watch the ships go by. If you’re driving a car, there is a parking garage very close by. It’s also not too far from Market Street which is great.
James V — Google review
Waterfront Park is one of Charleston's most popular places to unwind. This ten-acre park overlooks Charleston Harbor and Cooper River and offers waterfront and off-the-water paths. It is a favorite among Charleston locals and tourists alike. This park is ideal for a sunset picnic or a relaxing stroll, and it only adds to the romantic charm of Charleston. It won the 2007 Landmark Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects, confirming its status as a Charleston treasure. You can stroll through the gardens, walk the esplanade, or spend some time at one of the many fountains. Spanning over 8 acres and located less than a mile north of The Battery, Waterfront Park has become a beloved Charleston fixture. It is home to one of the city's most photographed sites: the pineapple fountain. In Charleston's scorching summer months (and we faced that too), visitors (especially children) can be found cooling off in the shallow water of the fountain. Wide walking paths, dozens of benches, well-manicured green spaces, picturesque Palmetto trees, and a famous Pineapple Fountain adorn the park.

Charleston City Market

Sights & Landmarks
Charleston City Market is a historic 4-block market that has been around for over 200 years. It's a hub for local artisans selling sweetgrass baskets, leather goods, art, and more. The market also offers a variety of food options and fresh farm-to-table produce. The architectural significance of the buildings adds to the charm of this cultural hotspot. Visitors can explore the area and indulge in local cuisine at nearby eateries like Butcher and Bee or Home Team BBQ.
I recently visited the Charleston City Market during my trip to Charleston and really enjoyed the experience. The market is surprisingly long and filled with a wide variety of vendors. There’s just about anything you can think of for sale like local crafts, handmade goods, art, souvenirs, and more. It’s a great place to walk through, browse, and find something unique to take home.
James W — Google review
The Charleston City Market is always a fun stop when visiting the city. There’s a little bit of everything here, so it’s easy to find souvenirs or unique gifts. Prices can be on the higher side, but that’s pretty standard for a tourist spot. On one of my first visits, a kid handed me a palm rose, and before I knew it, a man was chasing me down asking for $5—it gave off a bit of a New York street hustle vibe. The market is usually crowded and can get very hot in the summer, but there’s a small indoor section with food options, air conditioning, and surprisingly clean bathrooms, which was a welcome break.

Love shopping at the Charleston city market! Lots of great Christmas and birthday gift ideas! People are friendly and there is so much to look at. We also took an E-bike ride to the pineapple fountain and enjoyed sitting by the waterfront. Don’t miss a horse-drawn carriage ride around the city, in the evening, complete with spooky ghost stories and delicious restaurants all around. Overall, Charleston is a fun walkable city with lots of history and a fun vibe!
Julie P — Google review
A beautifully designed market with a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Partially air-conditioned, featuring charming shops and stalls. The vendors are friendly, not pushy, and very customer-focused. There’s a great variety of products to discover, and plenty of good food options around the market. Definitely worth a visit!

A tourist thing in Charleston. You could buy some souvenirs and we got a really cute coaster and a meh magnet. Things are pricey but not incredulous. There is a callies hot biscuit to try. Some very cool art like metal art and real butterflies taxidermy. Went in pouring stormy weather but I can imagine a more laid back stroll at the market with a loved one would be nice. Not every stall is super different so maybe the nyc in me is spoiled and I am looking for novelty. The other thing would be if there were more snacks or bites to try. But overall decent. Not stunning.

The Charleston City Market is a fun indoor/partially outdoor shopping experience. It's easy to find souvenirs or unique Charleston gifts. Prices can be on the high side, but that’s standard in a tourist area, some vendors will haggle on prices. We were there mid November which was perfect for walking around, but if your there in the summer I would go early morning.
Tim — Google review
This is a must see, local artist, specialty booths and tons of Charleston charm. Had a wonderful time, bought a few Charleston Christmas Ornaments, a few pieces of jewelry and some gifts. The outdoor Market has air-conditioning for those hot days. Would recommend this as a place to visit .

Charleston City Market is a must see while visiting the city. The market is filled with artisans and vendors offering all kinds of goods. Everything from jewelery to food. The area around the market is surrounded by unique shops and restaurants offering a wide variety of food choices. The market is a fun way to spend the day looking for that one of a kind gift.

Swan Lake Iris Gardens

Nature & Parks
Garden
Tranquil park known for its swans, geese & ducks, plus Japanese iris blooms & a lake with turtles.
Beautiful scenery, so many swans, beautiful flowers and plants! My husband and I took the kids here in honor of my Nana that passed a couple years ago. She lived just down the road and loved this place! It was very nostalgic to visit somewhere that was so close to her with my own little family that she never got the chance to meet. Some tears were shed but it was a beautiful day and experience ❤️
Shawna B — Google review
My boyfriend and I came here for a date and were blown away by how beautiful everything was. The garden is free to enter and has free parking, making it perfect for last-minute adventures, scenic strolls, or even a casual picnic. Seeing swans up close truly is a fairytale. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how well taken care of the park is. The lawns were beautifully maintained, the gardens are lush and vibrant, and not a single piece of litter was in sight. Every path, bench, and playground area looked clean and lovingly maintained. You can truly tell that the workers and volunteers pour their hearts into this space. The attention to detail in the flower beds, the butterfly garden, and even the swan habitats speaks volumes about how much care goes into keeping the park beautiful and welcoming. If you’re traveling through South Carolina or live nearby, this is a lovely spot to keep on your list. • Free parking & entry • Clean, accessible restrooms throughout the park • Plenty of benches and shaded picnic spots • A visitor center with helpful staff and local information • Featuring all 8 swan species in one public park

Very unique and beautiful place to spend an afternoon with friends and family, especially young children. Beautiful scenery filled with colorful flowers and many types of Swans, ducks, and geese from all over the Northern Hemisphere. A one of a kind Habitat that brings travelers from all over the globe. A true display of Gods elegant creations. Filled with paths that also bring knowledge of the landscape and free picnic areas and a shelter to rent for special occasions. A nice sized playground for children including an old firetruck for the kids to play on.

What a beautiful oasis in Sumpter! While traveling through the area I wanted to find a place to stop for a bit and take a break from driving. This place came up in my search and so glad it did. The garden is very well maintained and extremely relaxing. Large pond with a number of different species of swans and geese. Great walking trails with lots of shade too. Well worth a visit. Wish I lived closer.

Beautiful park! We enjoyed the 3/4 mile walk, the chocolate and butterfly gardens, and all the lovely swans with their babies. There are plenty of benches if you need them and a good amount of shade. The children's playground is great for kids as well.

This place is fantastic, even when it's really hot. There's plenty of shade, always maintained, bathrooms avail, and nature both brought in and thriving as well as naturally attracted. The gardening is gorgeous, and there's a little of everything for everyone. Make sure to visit both sides of the park, and also check out the Shot Pouch Greenway just behind it, thru the black border gate on the boardwalk side of the park. Great to visit as seasons change also!

Nice park that's bigger than it looks. We got here in the evening not long before closing. Of course, the main interest is the swans. Several varieties and they're always posing for pictures. We didn't have time to go over the bridge to the garden side. I'm told there's bike trails also.
Jack P — Google review
The swans were actively swimming and spread across the lake. They were sure a beautiful sight to see! All around this lake is a really nice walking path with plenty of shade and cooling breezes!!

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

Garden
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a historic plantation in Charleston, dating back nearly 400 years. It offers visitors a glimpse into plantation life and its impact on American history. The 464-acre property features lush gardens, buildings, a maze, petting zoo, conservatory, cafe, and a theatre showcasing the plantations' history through a short film. Visitors can also enjoy train and boat tours around the grounds.
This is the first spot we visited in Charleston, It didn’t disappoint! We opted for the House Tour and glad that we did. Our guide, Madison, was kind and knowledgeable. The property is vast and breathtaking at every angle. The gardens you could get lost in. (But pack bug spray!) The wildlife area and the cafe were both pleasant surprises. We appreciated the clean bathrooms and water refill station as we brought our own water bottle. The salve to freedom cabin tour guided by, John, was excellent. The passion he felt about the topic was expressive and nearly brought me to tears. I recommend coming to Magnolia!

A Deeply Moving and Enriching Experience** Visiting this former plantation was both emotional and educational. The tours through the plantation house and the slave quarters were thoughtfully designed and offered a powerful insight into the lives of enslaved people. The beauty of the grounds—with centuries-old trees and a well-kept garden landscape—adds a peaceful atmosphere to the experience. What truly stood out was the exceptional staff: incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing history. Both the lady in the main house and the one in the slave quarters were outstanding in their presentation and expertise. I truly appreciated the time spent here and left with a deeper understanding and valuable perspective. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!

Loved our day at Magnolia Plantation & Garden! Beautiful and serene surroundings and fascinating history. Enjoyed the water tour and all the pretty birds and saw my first gators in the wild!!! The home tour was interesting and I’m so grateful that we were able to see and learn so much by touring the home. Highly recommend a visit!

Beautiful place to take long walks and tours of the Plantation house, gardens, and rice fields. It is an adventure filled with history and nature. The boat tour was fun and interesting. My family had an enjoyable day.

I was very leery of the venue due to its history, and although it would not ever be my personal choice for an event, it was absolutely gorgeous. It was extremely well tended to and immaculately landscaped. The venue areas were gorgeous, clean and had the perfect amount of space for a large gathering.

Before you read any further... BUG SPRAY!! The grounds are stunning and well kept. We did the boat tour and our guide was very knowledgeable. It is great to see wildlife being taken care of. Saw some baby gators too! Trails are covered however there are lots of mosquitoes. The history at this location is unbelievable.

Gardens are English style, with proper expectations they are stunning. Great journey through checkered history of the land. Family owned and it shows. The generations of caretakers here shows in the beauty. It’s clear that the people here take great pride in preserving this part of history. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. Snack bar isn’t great and very expensive for what you get. The guides were very knowledgeable and each added a personal touch. John stood out in the Slavery to Freedom tour. If you’re able to spend time with him, consider yourself blessed. He spoke with such reverence and compassion for the heartbreaking circumstances the slaves endured, it brought my wife and I to tears. He makes the experience personal with details about families (both the plantation owners and generations of slaves) that I’ve not experienced before. When we were researching Magnolia, we saw a bad (and quite frankly, racist) review dismissing the Slavery to Freedom tour given by “a white Irishman”. Don’t let that kind of closed mindedness deter you. John may be white, and he may be Irish, but his heartfelt conviction about sharing history and moving beyond the horrors of slavery is second to none!

This is probably the one of the best paid attractions that you need to visit when you're in Charleston. There is a lot to see here for the money that you paid for and the whole place is beautiful. They have like a mini petting zoo. Their gardens is really fun to explore. Be sure to take advantage of some of the free attractions like their train tour. Sometimes they actually have a free guided tour of their gardens which is a must in my opinion. We did actually pay for the boat tours which I totally think was worth it we saw a lot of wildlife while we were on this tour. Don't expect a very manicured garden because they focus more on natural wildlife. One thing I highly highly advise when you go there make sure let you spray yourself with an off lotion as the mosquitoes are very persistent and you are guaranteed to get bit if you don't spray yourself. Skip the bug bracelets as it will not work and I was wearing five and it did not help at all. One thing to that I wish is that they paved the roads going into the plantation itself. But overall totally worth it because the ticket is for 2 days which is an awesome value!

Middleton Place is a historic plantation located about fifteen miles northwest of Charleston, with roots dating back to the 1730s. Once home to the influential Middleton family, it holds significant historical value as the residence of notable figures such as Henry Middleton and Arthur Middleton, who played key roles in American history. The property suffered damage during various conflicts, including being ransacked by British troops and burned by Union soldiers.
I was completely impressed by the value for the price of the tickets both for the general admission and the house tour. The grounds are not only gorgeous, but all the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. I spent the better part of a day there meandering through at my own pace. Will absolutely return whenever possible!
Audra M — Google review
I highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance. It made the entrance easy and was able to plan ahead to think about what guided tours we wanted to do in advance. The grounds at Middleton are gorgeous! We learned about the Middleton family, some of the people who worked on the plantation through the years and the historical significance of plantation in shaping history. I wished the docent were more explicit about why the black slaves did not runaway or when they did the harsh repercussions. There was vert discussion about the psychological scarring of slavery and the fear instilled upon all.
Rachael N — Google review
It’s like taking a step back in time when entering this rice plantation. The gardens are kept in a way that you can feel the history and age. The knowledge from the staff and the few tours we did was impressive. We spent about 4hrs doing two small tours and enjoying the grounds.
David R — Google review
I’m really glad I had the opportunity to visit this plantation. Its story is at the heart of America’s colonial beginnings. Several tours are included with the price of admission and I appreciated their Garden Tour as well as their Beyond Slavery Tour. Whether your walking the grounds, coming for lunch, or learning it’s deep history, one could easily spend the day here.
Lisa — Google review
My daughters and I visited yesterday. We took the Beyond the Fields tour, about the Enslaved People's experience, with Linda. We all found it to be very informative and even emotional. The property is well preserved and tended and the docents are quite knowledgeable. The Middleton Oak is magnificent. Being mid-August, the weather was hot and humid which, combined with an approaching thunderstorm, cut our visit short. We agreed that our visit was a highlight of the trip.
Tara B — Google review
This place is absolutely beautiful and the guides are great! Put on your walking shoes and prepare to see alligators. I would like to see access to the house included in admission price as it is not cheap. Also please have sandwiches/wraps in snack bar that is at entrance.

We were in town from Michigan to attend a Sunday wedding. The wind was very strong and the temperature really dropped. The wedding was held outside by the large trees. It was very scenic but quite a walk from the parking lot to spot wearing high heels. The parlor where the reception was held was a bit overwhelmed by the number of guests. There were no cocktail tables to place snacks and cocktails prior to the reception starting. The food was great and the bartenders were very attentive. It was a romantic spot for a wedding but from a logistics perspective, very challenging to get transportation to and from our hotel. Guests had to take the shuttle to and from the venue. The reception ended by 10:30 PM to account for the return shuttles to the hotel. Family and friends made it a wonderful event.
Olga L — Google review
I could have spent days here instead of just a few hours. The vast grounds offer dazzling landscapes. There are tours and stories about the generations of families who lived here, both the enslaved and the plantation owners. It is a trip back in time.

Congaree National Park is a stunning natural haven that showcases a vast hardwood forest, complete with an array of hiking trails and serene creeks perfect for canoeing and fishing. Nature enthusiasts will be thrilled by the diverse wildlife, including owls, alligators, raccoons, and various bird species. The park's towering trees are truly awe-inspiring! For those keen on identifying flora and fauna, apps like Merlin for birds and Picture This for plants can enhance your experience.
It was a great day for a walk along the boardwalk—temperatures in the high 70s with a slight overcast. The park’s mosquito alert level was set to mild. There are plenty of trails to explore, and the natural beauty is well preserved. Ample parking is available, and both entrance and parking are free. Located just a few minutes from Columbia, it’s definitely worth a visit when in South Carolina.

Hiked a few trails here and it was beautiful!! Nicely maintained even on the more difficult trails. They're currently working on half of the board walk so it was closed but the side that has been refinished is wonderful!

My first national park visit in the US! Lovely place! Private kayaking available which gives you the true experience of the place. Loved every bit of it! Whether you are looking for a casual stroll, or looking for a long hike, this place has it all. Truly blissful experience deep into nature. Highly recommend visiting here during spring and enjoy kayaking!

This was my first visit to Congaree National Park, and it will certainly not be my last. I chose to walk the Boardwalk Trail, which was absolutely stunning from start to finish. The midway point offered serene, picturesque views of Weston Lake—one of the highlights of the entire experience. What I appreciated most was how peaceful the park felt. Even with a few other hikers along the way, everyone seemed equally captivated by the beauty of late autumn, soaking in the final glimpses of fall foliage. The atmosphere was calm, safe, and incredibly grounding. For anyone planning a visit, I highly recommend bringing water, wearing comfortable shoes, and—if you’re hiking solo—bringing AirPods. Olivia Dean serenaded me the entire way, and it was truly easy to fall in love with Congaree. Even the fallen trees scattered throughout the quiet forest added a touch of charm to the experience. A beautiful, memorable adventure. Highly recommended. 🌿✨

It is a large National Park. Not a park I was familiar with until we went to South Carolina. The Park Service has done a wonderful job with the boardwalk. We went on the path that was over a mile long. We saw some wildlife. We saw a millipede that is pictured. We saw a couple of turtles in the swampy area. A naturalist working there pointed out an owl, alligator, ibis and a couple of alligator gar. Everything but the owl, turtles and skink were at the end area that is an observation deck. It was well worth our time and they also had a nice visitors center you must check out.
James N — Google review
Not as flashy as other national parks but still pretty cool. We got to see lots of cool trees and I liked the self guided tour on the boardwalk. I highly recommend going in the fall when it's not too hot and there weren't any bugs.
Courtney G — Google review
Great national park and one of the most unique I have visited. The boardwalk loop was very nice, even though part of it was closed. Plenty of wildlife and plants to see including the bald cypress. Mosquitos were fine, but the horseflies were a bit annoying. The visitor center was nice and the rangers were helpful. 5 stars :)
Anderson J — Google review
While not the most majestic national park, Congaree was a magical and unique park to visit! Walking the boardwalk was very peaceful and you can almost full a unique energy to the park. It was definitely worth visiting! Unfortunately I did not see too much wild life but hope to come back one day and explore more the park. And maybe explore more of it when it is more wet! I went in early July and thankfully the mosquitoes were actually not bad at all so it can definitely be a hit or miss in terms of how many mosquitoes you run into!

Nestled in a former textile mill, the South Carolina State Museum stands as a beacon of knowledge and creativity, showcasing an impressive collection of 70,000 artifacts across four expansive floors. This interactive museum invites visitors to explore the rich tapestry of South Carolina's art, history, nature, and science from prehistoric times to modern-day. Families will find it particularly engaging with its planetarium featuring rotating shows and an observatory equipped with cutting-edge telescopes.
I thought this was a great museum and a great price point. It was only $13 for adults, $33 if you did the extra Disney exhibit. The exhibits were interesting and ranged from early history to war-time era. I really enjoyed the visiting Disney exhibit. It was really neat to see all the costumes from different films.

There are 4 floors with so much to look at. We started on the 4th floor and worked our way down. 3 hours and I don't think we were able to see everything. I have a mobility cart and it was so easy to move around and see the displays. Reasonably priced admission and well worth it.
Jeannie C — Google review
Had a great time here! Went on the first Sunday so admission was just 1 dollar. Even though there was a good sized crowd, it wasn’t so large that I wasn’t able to see everything I wanted to. Great place for a family outing or just something to do to pass the time. Would definitely go back again for some of the other paid exhibits.

Disney’s Heroes and Villains costume exhibit was well worth a visit. It featured a captivating collection of iconic outfits worn by renowned actors and actresses in beloved films. Seeing the costumes up close was magical. The museum's broader exhibit was extensive, covering a wide range of subjects and historical periods. The displays were engaging, with some interactive elements that added to the experience.

Had a good time here at The South Carolina State Museum! Went on the first Sunday so admission was only a 1 dollar. Lots of exhibits to wander through and a nice gift shop!
Sarah S — Google review
Overall an enjoyable experience, but extreme cold from too much air conditioning and poor working order for many exhibits affects recommendation for visiting the museum. I estimate that 25% of the exhibits are at some state of disrepair. In addition, the planetarium show I went to, while very informative, was more of an academic lecture than an entertaining show. Regarding the 4D Coastal Predators show, the production value was descent, but it was only 10 minutes long. Lastly, the attached photo provides a perfect example of improvement opportunities throughout the museum.

My adult daughter and I had the best time at the museum and loved the heroes and villains expo! We're planning another trip back before it ends!

I had assumed there would be the expected exhibits: We farmed rice and indigo... We defeated the British when they tried to take over Charleston the first time... oops on the second time ...Slavery was a stain on our history... General Sherman tore us up... And, oh, here comes a railroad. What I was *not* expecting was the collection of early telescopes covering several hundred years and the observatory on the fourth floor. Seriously, it's a museum and you need to go to it.

Riverbanks Zoo & Garden in South Carolina is a popular tourist destination that offers a unique combination of a botanical garden and a mid-size zoo. The 70-acre themed gardens feature over 4,200 species of native and exotic plants, including a rose garden, Asian garden, Walled Garden, and Waterfall Junction with children's attractions. The 170-acre zoo is home to more than 2,000 creatures from various habitats.
We visited the zoo on a Sunday. It was moderately busy but not too bad. It had a variety of exhibits. Definitely could easily spend 2-4 hours here. Lots to see, lots of food and drink options. Tickets were $25 per person. We really enjoyed our afternoon. The bathrooms were clean, lines were short. We visited the botanical gardens in the back. Those are not worth seeing. Very basic, nothing special. Lots of walking to get to them… so I’d skip if we returned. Great place for family & kids or even just a date spot. My only complaint is the special exhibits close early, and earlier than they state. I wanted to ride a camel and see the giraffes up close and both closed “at 6” and actually closed at 5:30. So we missed that opportunity.
Kenzie K — Google review
We bought tickets online ahead of time and they were slightly cheaper and you paid for parking right then too. The park was great, we went for my son's first birthday and just walked around and enjoyed everything!! I used to go there as a kid so I wanted to take him there as well. We drove from Savannah, GA! Would definitely recommend for a family trip. Great place, looks clean, nice staff, easy pathways, animals look well taken care of. Fun all around!!
Nicole Z — Google review
We were visiting from out of town and looking for something to do and what a pleasant surprise we loved the zoo and gardens! There's lots of animals to see, some we hadn't seen in any zoos back home. Then you can take their new sky tram (included in ticket) to visit the garden side. I'm not a huge fan of plants so I didn't have high expectations, but that side was excellent as well! Right now they have Lego sculptures on display which is fun. Lots of paths to explore and a huge kid area with water features (seasonal) and other fun things. If I were local I would definitely buy a membership.
Ashley C — Google review
I can’t believe this place is only an hour and a half from my house—how have I never been here before? I was absolutely blown away from top to bottom. The entire zoo is incredibly elaborate, and you get to see every type of animal, bird, reptile, and fish you can imagine. It was truly unbelievable. I saw stuff i never saw before and I am a zoo addict. The closeness to animals was amazing. Every animal looked happy and well cared for, and the enclosures were spotless. The price was very reasonable, and the staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. I’m still shocked by how many different animals you can see here. Five stars doesn’t even come close to doing it justice. If you’ve never been, you need to go. I visited at a time when there was almost no one there, but I’ve heard it can get busy, and annoying —so definitely try to pick your timing. Either way, it’s worth every minute and penny. Im coming back this week with my little brother sponsor.

Always love a trip to the Zoo with the family. This time we headed to the botanical gardens. Did not disappoint. Amazing staff, lots to see and the air ride over the lake was great amd saved us a walk between the Zoo and botanical gardens. Will definitely return in the spring.

Went on a fairly busy day, but were able to move through everything in about 3.5 hrs with two young kids. Loved this zoo. Its not too big and provides a lot of shade on the paths and theres a good mix of indoor/outdoor exhibits, so going in summer won't be horrible. Theres a lot of events for kids like animal feeding, obstacle courses, carousel, and lots of food/bathroom stations scattered around. For 2 adults and 2 kids, it was over $100 to get in, but that didnt include the extra costs for animal feeding and extra events.

We’ve been here twice already, and we really love this place! Everything is compact, so you don’t have to walk too much. There are so many animals, all of them are adorable. Sometimes you can even see the feeding time, usually around noon. The area is clean and well-kept. I love animals, so I try to come here as often as I can.
Lina G — Google review
The animals at Riverbanks Zoo are well cared for and very well fed. The zoo is small enough to walk in an afternoon but has so many animals and things to see that you could easily spend the entire day! Definitely get the upgraded family membership. Feeding the animals over and over was a must when we went.

Hopelands Gardens is a 14-acre estate in Aiken, known for its picturesque beauty and rich history. Once the private gardens of Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin, this tranquil public garden features old oak trees, cedars, a koi pond, fountains, and enchanting holiday lights. The estate offers children's story time and hosts free concerts on its performance stage.
A few years ago my lovely wife took me to Hopelands Gardens. This was my first visit there, and it was a very nice, relaxing walk around the grounds! Very enjoyable. We didn't get to explore everywhere due to my mobility issues, but I felt like we did cover a lot of the grounds. I didn't have my camera, and I wish I did, but cell phone cameras are really pretty high quality these days. I look forward to another visit, probably next Spring!

Several times a year we visit the serenity here. Spring is our favorite. Everyone enjoys the music and lights at Christmas, everyone loves the colors of Fall, but the magic of Spring and all of the turtles, the flowers, the Koi pond and the crisp newness of the promise of our new year, this is my absolute favorite. You can walk the paths, sit on the benches, bird watch fish watch or swing on the swings up on the hill or walk your dog or have a small picnic. The most relaxing place in aiken sc !

How fun to find a botanical garden in the middle of Aiken. Enjoyed a picnic lunch there. There's also a horse racing museum there, but wasn't open on the Wednesday we were there.

Beautiful place to walk in nature and among the trees! And see one of the horses.

Very beautiful and peaceful place to take a walk and view history of Aiken. You can bring your dog too. I will go back when the flowers are in bloom. We saw giant coy fish, turtles, big bullfrog and many butterflies and birds. Such a special place for Aiken to have and share for free with visitors.

I have been coming here since I was a kid and when I had kids I took them as well so excited to have a grand baby on the way and then I can take her. I even spreader my husband's ashes here years ago. So many great memories.

DEFINITELY add the marina to your itinerary when you visit Augusta. The riverwalk is great, you can rent kayaks, and the river is so soothing to just sit and watch. They also have a pedestrian bridge opening soon that you can walk across the Savannah River on and enjoy food vendors, etc. I’ll definitely visit it when it opens to the public.

Toccoa Falls, located on the Toccoa Christian College campus in Georgia, is a breathtaking natural attraction. The 186-ft. waterfall is set amidst a lush forest and offers a serene setting for events such as weddings. Visitors can enjoy picnics near the falls or explore the well-maintained short trail leading to this stunning cascade.
Such a cool site, amazing waterfall easily 500 feet tall or more. Great picture taking scenery. We even saw a wedding photo shoot going on. It was six bucks to go in for a group of four. We were able to go down to the actual bottom of the waterfall, not underneath it, but where the water sits. They have a souvenir store. It’s not government owned. It’s privately owned.
Angel M — Google review
I visited Toccoa Falls this past weekend, and it was absolutely breathtaking. Nestled within the peaceful, wooded campus of Toccoa Falls College, this 186-foot free-falling waterfall is easily one of the tallest east of the Mississippi, even surpassing Niagara Falls in height by about 19 feet. The path to the falls is delightfully short and accessible—just a flat, well-maintained gravel trail that makes it perfect for all ages and abilities. You actually enter through a charming gift shop called Gate Cottage, where you pay a nominal fee—just $2 for adults, and there are discounts for seniors, families, and children. On top of that, the surroundings are captivating—lush greenery, the peaceful melody of cascading water, and a serene atmosphere that makes it ideal for photos, quiet reflection, or a mini family outing. Even better, dogs on leashes are welcome, and those with limited mobility will find the trail accommodating.

🌟💧 “Toccoa Falls: Taller Than Niagara & Just as Stunning!” Toccoa Falls is an absolute hidden gem tucked right on the Toccoa Falls College campus 🌿💦. You park at the welcome center/gift shop, pay just $2 per person (super affordable 🙌), and the staff are beyond friendly and welcoming 🤗. From there, you walk through the back of the shop to the trail—it’s a short, easy gravel walk 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ that’s kid-friendly (though I wouldn’t recommend a stroller). When you arrive… WOW! The waterfall is absolutely breathtaking 💧✨. Surrounded by huge boulders and peaceful scenery, it’s the perfect spot to relax, take photos 📸, and soak in the beauty of nature. 🌟 Fun Fact: Toccoa Falls is one of the tallest free-falling waterfalls east of the Mississippi at 186 feet—that’s taller than Niagara Falls! 😲 This spot is definitely worth seeing, and I promise you will not be disappointed. 💙 Whether you’re local or passing through, add Toccoa Falls to your must-see list. 🌈

Beautiful and worth the 5 minute beautiful nature walk. Follows a beautiful creek up to the Falls. Plenty of rest spots that are well shaded for trekkers with disabilities to share in this wonder of nature. Read the History of the Area!!! Great Gift Shop for memory keeping your visit to the Falls!

Was in the area and decided to stop by and take a look at the waterfall. It’s about a (3-5) minute walk to see it. Small entry fee of $2.00. Very nice, tranquil area and grounds are well maintained. Nice clean restrooms and great place for a picnic—🧺. The Waterfall is located within Toccoa Falls College campus. All the way towards the back of the campus. Worth a look — see if you’re in the area! #HappyPlaces❤️

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a vast 313-acre horticultural conservatory that offers free admission to visitors. The garden boasts picturesque walking paths and provides educational programs for both adults and children. While some negative reviews exist, the gardens are well-prepared during winter and offer an excellent opportunity for photography. There's ample parking available, although it might get crowded on weekends. Visitors can donate if they wish to support the establishment, with a small donation box located near the entrance.
It's Free. A very beautiful garden. It's huge. A great place to take pictures. Great views of flowers and plants. Nature at its best. I recommend this place. We went during our trip to Atlanta. We made the drive out there not too bad, about an hour or so.

Visiting the State Botanical Garden of Georgia during Christmas was honestly such a peaceful and magical experience. The lights throughout the garden added this soft, warm glow that made everything feel a little extra special—like a quiet winter wonderland tucked into Athens. It wasn’t overly crowded, which made it easy to stroll through the paths, take in all the decorated trees and glowing displays, and just enjoy the calm. If you love holiday vibes but want something more serene than chaotic, this place is such a sweet spot. Plus, the lights reflecting off the plants and walkways made for some really pretty photos without even trying. A cozy, festive little escape that felt equal parts relaxing and joyful.

This past weekend I was visiting my alma mater, The University of Georgia. I got my master's there in 1999 and haven't really been back since. My first daughter was little when we were there and we take her for hikes in the Botanical Garden. Back then there was one little garden and the conservatory was brand new. Today the gardens have grown! Not only have the plants nature's, but there's now many different gardens. I'm not much of a gardener so I won't pretend, but I can say they're all beautiful. The conservatory is the same, but it's got a partner building that houses the most amazing and beautiful porcelain collection. Again, I'm not much into dishes or figurines, but to imagine that one person collected all of this stirs the imagination. It sounds boring, but trust me it's a must see. I went to relieve the holes we took with my daughter, and I found a wonderful fairy land of plants and new experiences. If you get to Athens GA for any reason, the State Botanical Garden is good couple of hours experience, more of your into plants!

It’s free 😀 but it would be worth visiting even if it wasn’t! Pick a beautiful day and head out for a relaxing time surrounded by beautiful plants. There are also a lot of fun facts on the signs I found really intriguing, and I’m no plant nerd. So many different types of plants and environments, with the hill of wildflowers especially amazing! Also go visit the porcelain museum—I thought it sounded lame but it is also really neat!
Heather P — Google review
Beautiful gardens with plenty of parking. No entry fee, but donations accepted. There's a gift shop. What they really need is a cafe or at least a snack bar. We enjoyed our visit.
Chris B — Google review
Couldn't possibly do this place justice with words. Go! Bring a picnic. Bring everyone you know. This was a revelation in what a community can provide for it's residents and visitors. I have paid large sums to have less fun and relaxation. The children's garden and flying squirrels nest are not to be missed. Perfectly manicured and curated ornamental gardens on a sprawling, truly gorgeous property.
Yona G — Google review
This place is absolutely awesome! The children's area is amazing, and my 3-year-old enjoys playing there. Entrance is free, but donations are encouraged. I also took my elderly mother there, and they provided a scooter for her to enjoy (check the website for details on availability). Overall, an amazing place, and I recommend everyone visit.
S H — Google review
It is really nice. If you like plants or just nice scenic trails to walk on, you will like this place. There are also a couple of play areas for kids that look pretty awesome too. The pocelain museum onsite is worth a visit too - it is pretty amazing, and no it is not porcelain toilets. Honestly I think this place should charge admission. The outdoor areas are on par with the Atlanta Botanical gardens in my opinion, and Atlanta Botanical is a bit pricey on the admission. I have attached a picture of the map for those who would like to see the layout. Its a pretty big place. I spent about 3 hours there.

The park offers a plethora of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, and paddling adventures. Visitors can explore remnants of the late 1800s gold rush and enjoy scenic trails that lead to mountain summits and picturesque waterfalls.
Stayed 3 nights in September 2025. Was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Room was very comfortable and clean. Appears to have been remodeled not long ago. We ate two evening meals. The menu was very limited. They really need to add more items like pasta, regular size burgers, and more variety. If you have a problem, just ask for Executive Chef Matthew Humphrey. He will make it right and make sure you leave happy. Cannot say enough good things about him. Servers were friendly and wait time short. If we decide to return we will definitely stay here.

I have been a frequent visitor of Unicoi for about 7 years now. This week we got married in the park, and had a great time. I had to depart for a family emergency early and Ms. Patty was outstanding in listening and being kind. This park, it’s always clean and friendly. You can see wildlife all year round here. (Our favorite is the armadillos). If you go please be safe, keep it clean and make memories here.

Beautiful hotel and beautiful location. The two restaurants/bar are great. A little hard to get to some room with a bunch of baggage though lifts and ramps are there. We had a great view from our room and a staff member said it was the best room. Lots of places to sit and hang out outside. Fire pits available etc. There is a shuttle to take you into town and back. Super clean, great room service people. I liked it and would stay again.

Overall: great! Good: End of October, leaves changing, first frost, great time. Service was excellent: needed extra bedding, no problem. Food was great. Shuttle was good and very convenient. Take the trip up to Anna Ruby Falls ($5/person). It's a short hike, but was good. Bad: Mattress was a bit older inner spring, a bit of a hard time sleeping. Shower did need some caulk to prevent leaking. Could smell someone smoking dope occasionally; no fault of lodge. Overall, a great stay. Would do again.

Ana Ruby Falls was beautiful! First off! And the paved trail was very accommodating to my uncle who has had knee replacement. We used the “Seek” app to identify plant species along the trail. We read every one of the fact plaques along the way as well. Truly wonderful way to spend the afternoon and the company that manages the gift shop and gate employ wonderful people!

We are enjoying our stay at Unicoi State Park. Our group of 11 rented two cabins (a three bedroom and a 2 bedroom one). Chris handled our check in and was nice and helpful. We drove to our cabins and we were having problems with one of our key cards and JT (maybe one of the cleaning staff?) helped us out. He also kindly carried a case of water for me that started slipping out of my hands. We knew the cabins were rustic so that didn’t bother us. It had what we needed. I stayed at one of the barrel cabins. There are two bedrooms upstairs and a sleeper sofa downstairs. There is only one bathroom and it is located downstairs. Be mindful that that there are a lot of stairs if renting one of these cabins, from getting your stuff to the cabin to climbing to your bedrooms. We made it work but we definitely broke a sweat! The cabins are about 8 minutes from town on windy roads. I was the nights DD and you really do not want to navigate the roads after even with one drink (I didn’t drink anything). The beer hall we went to served NA beer along with other options. We were in the B cabins and the rest of our group was in the C cabins. It was a fairly easy walk between the two. Just be mindful to stay off the paved road. There was some traffic with a blind turn. I had read there wasn’t a lot of seating so we packed camping chairs and used them on the back deck. The deck has two Adirondack chairs and the dinning table had four chairs we could have moved out there. I packed all my toiletries in a separate large canvas bag and that was super helpful since we had to carry it down the steps to use the bathroom/shower. There is a hair drier but it wasn’t very strong. I was glad I packed mine from home. Water pressure and temperature was good. I read people had trouble with cell service but we were fine. Overall this is a nice option if you plan on sating in Helen.

Nestled in the picturesque North Georgia Mountains, the Consolidated Gold Mine in Lumpkin County is a captivating destination that takes you back to the heart of the 1800s gold rush. Originally established in 1887 and welcoming visitors since 1965, this historic site offers an immersive underground tour that plunges guests 200 feet below ground. Here, you can discover how gold was mined and learn about its fascinating journey from earth to treasure.
The tour guide had an amazing job. He was the great one. It was my first time exploring gold mine and it was totally worth it!!! This place is amazing. There were a lot of stories to be told and some tools still work which so surprised me. The floor is a little bit slippery, be careful. And a lot of stairs, be ready to walk a lot. They have charms in every corners inside. Worth for visit for sure.

Carolyn was our tour guide and she was fantastic! The tour was very fun and educational. At the end of the tour, we got to pan for gold. The staff were very helpful and informative. We were able to take home the gold we found in small vials. We also did a gem bucket. The staff frequently checked on us to make sure we were doing well and they answered our questions about the rocks we found. All of the staff were just so friendly and helpful.

Very cool and educational tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and added some humor into the tour. My advice would be if you’re cold natured bring a long sleeve shirt or jacket to wear on the tour- it’s chilly. Also would wear close-toed shoes, it’s wet and rocky. Just about everyone had mud on the backs of their pants legs from walking down the narrow stairs, so wear some pants and shoes you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. Overall would highly recommend!

This was easily one of our favorite experiences on our trip to Dahlonega! It was so cool and educational for our entire family. Our tour guide was great both informative and funny and we really enjoyed every part of the tour. Then we did some gem mining after and I highly recommend adding that as part of your experience especially if you have little ones. They get to keep their gems and my boys are already planning to put them in a cool cabinet when we get home! Everyone was super nice and they have a TON of cool stuff in the gift shop.

This was our first time checking out a gold mine, and we had such a great time! The tour was really informative, and our guide was awesome—he made the whole experience super enjoyable. We also got to try gold panning, and we even got to keep a little bit of the gold we found. Overall, a super cool experience and totally worth the visit!

This tour has a very interesting history, it also highlights the unfortunate exposure of past workers to hazardous working conditions. It is not ideal for individuals with mobility issues due to the presence of stairs and steep pathways that can become extremely slippery. It is essential to wear non skid shoes and hats for protection, as water drips from the ceiling. Notably, other cave tours ( other states )provide helmets for added safety.

Wow, what a fun experience for kids and adults alike. Our tour guide, Rusty, was absolutely amazing in his explanation of stories, involving the kids, and attention to detail of the tour. He has the best personality for being a guide. All the staff was also very friendly, making it a welcoming atmosphere. It’s been one of the best highlights of our Georgia trip so far. The gold and gem mining at the end was so fun!
Jesse S — Google review
This was a great experience going underground, and the guide was really good, knowledgeable, and explained everything very clearly. Kids really enjoyed this activity at ages 12 and 14. Got the history of what it was like during the gold rush and being a miner. Kids enjoyed panning for gold afterwards and they enjoyed the store and we even got to see and meet the man in the pictures with the long beard which was cool. 10/10 recommend. I only took a Star away because the cashier lady in the overalls took tickets which were for crisson gold mine AND consolidated gold mine, so when we went to go to Crisson afterwards the only tickets I had left were one for crisson and one for consolidated (for one person), but I handed over 3 tickets for each consolidated and crisson (they come attached), but I had my receipt showing I just purchased the tickets earlier from the Dahlonega visits center, and we were able to enter without an issue, however if I didn’t have my receipt from the visitors center, I may of had a issue entering.

We didn't stay overnight, we just visited the water park. Park was clean and well maintained. Staff (early twenties age group) were nice, helpful and seemed to enjoy their jobs. Buy your ticket at the gate if you are eligible for a military discount, price will still be right at $100 for two people, but worth the savings.

We recently visited Margaritaville lol, and it was a fun and relaxing experience from start to finish! The combination of lakeside views, beach vibes, and family-friendly activities made it a memorable outing. The water park was a highlight—clean, well-maintained, and full of attractions for all ages. The slides were thrilling, the wave pool was a blast, and the lazy river was the perfect place to unwind. We also appreciated the variety of food and drink options throughout the park. The frozen margaritas lived up to the name, and the beachside grill offered solid options for both kids and adults. One of the best parts was the laid-back, island-style atmosphere. Music was playing, the staff was friendly, and everything felt very well organized. Renting a cabana by the lake made our day even more enjoyable and gave us a comfortable spot to cool off and relax. Parking and entry were smooth, though it's worth arriving early on weekends to avoid crowds. The prices were reasonable for a full-day experience, especially considering the range of amenities. Margaritaville is a great summer destination whether you’re visiting with family, a group of friends, or just looking for a mini getaway without leaving Georgia. We’ll definitely be back!

Fun slides. Not very long lines. Food was meh. I didn't have any cocktails, but there were bees buzzing around the bar anyway. Kids had a great time, so that's what counts. Parents might be a bit disappointed with the food and drink, though.

Just beware of the waterpark especially if your family has dietary restrictions. We called in advance to ensure we can bring in safe food for our family with allergies and they said no problem. At the gate our cooler with lunch was denied entry altogether. Very frustrating miscommunication. They’ll also make you pour out waters for children, and adults, despite it being 100 degrees.
Hannah C — Google review
Listen if you live close and I’m gonna come more than a few times during the summer by the season pass. If you just go with a daily pass, you’re gonna pay an arm and a leg. This place is a lot of fun once you get in but for my family of four for one day we spent $350-$400 for about six hours. Honestly, if they just made the prices reasonable, you’d probably have a lot more people coming.

Even in the fall, the play of golden and red leaves adds a magical touch, making every step of the journey worthwhile. What I love most is how peaceful and energizing this place feels. It’s the perfect spot to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life and simply be present in nature. Whether you’re hiking, taking photos, or just sitting quietly to listen to the water, every visit leaves you refreshed and renewed. This is one of those places you’ll want to return to again and again. 🌿💧🍂🍁😇

Amicalola Falls is absolutely breathtaking! The views are stunning from every angle — whether you’re looking up from the base of the falls or hiking to the top. The sound of the rushing water and the mountain air make it such a peaceful escape. We enjoyed exploring the trails, and the steps to the top are definitely a workout but completely worth it for the view! The park is clean, well-maintained, and perfect for all ages. There are plenty of picnic areas, beautiful overlooks, and friendly staff throughout the park. If you’re planning a visit, take your time to enjoy the scenery — it’s truly one of Georgia’s most beautiful spots. Great for a day trip, a weekend getaway, or just a little time in nature to refresh your soul.

Beautiful park to visit when the leaves are changing in mid October to November. It was nice to have the option to drive to different parts of the park or hike. This makes it convenient for families that may want to split up amd experience the park in different ways. A walking stick and water bottle is helpful if your planning to do more hiking than driving. There are a lot of steps! Great for exercise.

Amicalola Falls is an absolute must see! The waterfall is stunning, and the trails offer amazing views and fresh mountain air. The visitor center and gift shop were great especially the mini wildlife display! A huge thanks to Carla, who was so knowledgeable and friendly while helping us plan our route to the falls. The stairs up and down were a fun adventure with breathtaking views. This park is truly a peaceful, beautiful Georgia jewel. Can’t wait to return!

A really nice state park centered around the tallest waterfall in Georgia. The waterfall itself and the staircase section are the stars of this park. The easiest way to view the falls would be to park at the West Ridge Parking Lot and walk over about 0.25 miles. The staircase section, starting from the reflection pool and going to the top of the falls is a great workout and has great views. I was slightly disappointed with the other trails I used to make a loop while parking at the visitor center. The Creek Trail and East Ridge Trail were just okay to me. I would try the AT approach trail starting from behind the visitor center if I visited again.

Absolutely wonderful experience! Very nice around early to mid-Fall, but I'd watch out for wildlife, such as snakes and bears! Also, if you're planning on hiking, I'd recommend parking, then taking "the arch" up, then the stairs down and back into the parking lot.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at this park today. It was $5 to get in and it had a ranger station which was pretty impressive. They had information centers plus they had the souvenir section which was very well stocked. The rangers were very knowledgeable and friendly. There was a ATM on site and purified water stations by the toilets. They also had three Park stamps instead of one hours of collect patches in the wife collects postcards and magnets as well. Drive across the street from the ranger station up that road and come to your first parking space on the right. Then go down the walkway, not the stairs and about .3 mi you'll come across the middle of the falls. Then you get back in your car and go up to the top. Behind the ranger station is access to the Appalachian trail which is kind of neat. I would have liked to have hiked that but I'm too old for that now. The restrooms were very clean and we had a wonderful time.

Botanical garden
Set on the sprawling estate of Jim Gibbs, these 220 acres comprise 16 gardens in various styles.
Lovely gardens with lots to see. Plenty of spots for resting and reflecting. We walked the main route including the Manor House and also the butterfly gardens which came to exactly 3 miles and took about two hours. Definitely worth the price of admission and free parking. The little cafe has a limited menu but the sandwiches are high quality and delicious. Staff was super friendly and helpful.

Plan to spend at least 3 hours here and wear comfortable shoes. Beautiful scenery and wide variety of well cared for plants. My visit was in late September, but there were still a lot of blooms around. I'll have to come back for the daffodils next year in the spring!

My visit to Gibbs Gardens was an absolutely refreshing and memorable experience. Surrounded by beautiful seasonal flowers, vibrant fall colors, and peaceful landscapes, the garden felt like stepping into a living painting. Every corner offered something unique, from colorful roses and hydrangeas to water lilies floating serenely on ponds. The changing fall leaves rich shades of red, orange, and gold added an extra layer of charm and perfectly framed the floral displays. The design and layout of the gardens made the experience even more enjoyable. Clear signboards and maps were thoughtfully placed throughout the property, making navigation simple and stress-free. I could easily find each themed garden, whether it was the Japanese garden with its stone lanterns and statues or the wide flower fields bursting with color. This attention to detail ensured that I could focus fully on the beauty around me without worrying about directions. The staff at Gibbs Gardens were another highlight of my visit. They were consistently friendly, approachable, and helpful whether offering guidance on trails or simply greeting visitors with a warm smile. Their presence made the entire visit feel welcoming and well-organized, showing that guest experience is clearly a top priority here.I was also impressed by the balance between natural beauty and careful landscaping. The wooded areas, with tall trees and filtered sunlight, offered rustic charm, while the manicured flower beds and artistic sculptures added elegance. Together, they created an atmosphere that was peaceful yet energizing, making it easy to spend hours just wandering, relaxing, and taking photographs.Cleanliness and maintenance were excellent as well. The walking paths were tidy, rest areas were spotless, and benches were thoughtfully placed for comfort and photo opportunities. Every detail seemed designed with visitors in mind, which made the day even more enjoyable.Overall, Gibbs Gardens is not just a place to see flowers it’s a sanctuary for the soul. It offers peace, joy, and inspiration in every season. Whether you are looking for a quiet escape, a spot for photography, or simply a way to reconnect with nature, Gibbs Gardens delivers an unforgettable experience. With its helpful staff, clear organization, and breathtaking scenery, it truly deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful gardens to visit. 🌺🌸🌹🌼🌻😍

Breathtaking Fall Colors and a Perfect Family Outing! This was my second visit to Gibbs Gardens, and it was just as magical as the first! I took my in-laws to show them the beautiful fall colors, especially in the majestic Japanese Garden — it was absolutely stunning. 🍁 They also loved exploring the Wildflower Garden, which was full of vibrant colors and peaceful views. The gardens are so well-maintained, and every corner feels serene and picturesque. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy nature and spend a relaxing day with family. Highly recommend visiting during the fall season!

Stone Mountain Park is a vast and scenic park offering a wide range of activities, including golf, lodging options, and a cable car ride to the historic carved peak. The park features breathtaking views, numerous trails to explore, and various areas to visit. Visitors are advised to drive between the different trails due to the park's expansive size. The mountain itself is impressive in person with intricate stone carvings that depict stories of the past.
We had such a great time at Stone Mountain! There’s so much for kids to do, and a lot of the areas are completely free — perfect for letting little ones get their wiggles out. You do have to pay a $20 entrance fee since it’s a national park, but if you’re coming from far away and it’s during the week, they might let it slide (shhh 🤫). On weekends, though, the $20 fee definitely applies. We visited during the Pumpkin Festival, and it was nonstop fun! My little one had the best time — there were so many cool things to see, activities for all ages, and plenty of food spots for the whole family to enjoy. The Pumpkin Festival tickets are extra (about $35 each), but kids under 2–3 get in free. The ticket includes awesome experiences like a Skyride, a scenic train ride, and so much more! If you plan to visit, definitely bring a wagon because the kids will be tired after such a full day of fun. Also pack some lawn chairs and blankets so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful light show in the evening. Overall, Stone Mountain is such a fun and memorable place for families — totally worth the trip!

If you’re looking for a quick escape from the city without driving too far, Stone Mountain Park is a must-do. The walk-up trail is about 2 miles round trip and gives you a surprisingly good workout; it starts easy, then turns into a steep granite climb that will get your heart racing. It’s short enough for beginners but rewarding enough for regular hikers. The views from the summit are spectacular, on a clear day you can see downtown Atlanta, Kennesaw, and even the Appalachian foothills. The exposed granite top has a strange, lunar feel that makes the climb feel otherworldly. If you don’t want to hike both ways, the Summit Skyride cable car is a fun option. It’s a glass-enclosed gondola that glides over the mountain and offers panoramic views. Many hikers take the cable car down after trekking up - it saves your knees and lets you soak in the scenery without effort. Just note that the Skyride ticket is separate from the $20 park entry fee, and lines can get long on weekends. The only downsides: the trail can get crowded, especially late mornings, and the granite gets slippery when wet. Bring plenty of water, good shoes with grip, and go early to catch sunrise or late evening for cooler weather. Overall, Stone Mountain is one of Atlanta’s best quick treks, a mix of natural beauty, light adventure, and a cable car view that feels straight out of a travel ad. Whether you hike, ride, or do both, it’s absolutely worth it. ⭐ Rating: 4.6 / 5 📍 Best Time: Early morning or sunset 🎫 Tips: Bring water, sunblock, and take the Skyride down for the best combo of effort and ease.

Day trip to Stone Mountain Park. Good experience exploring the sights of Atlanta, one of it being this amazing and natural attraction. Walked around the park, took the cable car up to the “summit” and soaked in the views at the top of the stone. The views at the top were fantastic and the whole experience was fruitful. The attraction can be a bit far from downtown Atlanta, you can expect a USD 30-35 Lyft ride one way from downtown if you plan to visit this attraction. A 5* trip, and will recommend to experience once if your travels passes by Atlanta.

Hi everyone! My family and I visited this very interesting park. It was nice to climb up that mountain. If you have the chance, be sure to go up and look from above! You can see everything around you, the forest is very beautiful, and the panorama looks beautiful. I think climbing the mountain is good for your health. If the walking is difficult, there's an escalator! There's a large parking lot and plenty of entertainment. The kids really enjoyed it, and so did the adults. If possible, we'll come back here again and climb it again. There are also toilets (clean). There are trash bins along the way. There are places to eat and stay. Everything is great!

Beautiful today because ....FALL! The leaves are beautiful. Everything is set up for the light show tonight and the winter wonderland. Seems a little pricey for the tickets but everything seems to be about 50 bucks a piece at places. Get a map for sure. There is so much to see other than the mountain. Grist mill, lakes, trails, waterside.

We had beautiful weather. All we need was camp and hike. We did not go on the mountain. There are a number of hiking trails and we loved the campground. It was nice to see the changing of the trees as well

I haven’t taken the scenic skyride, but I usually go hiking instead. For those who enjoy hiking, this is a very easy trail, and for beginner hikers, it offers just the right amount of challenge. Once you reach the top, you’ll get a full 360-degree view of Atlanta — it’s beautiful! Parking is $20 for a one-time visit, and $40 for a season pass. Hope this helps!

The Best Fall Festival Ever! Stone Mountain Park truly outdid themselves with the Pumpkin Festival! We went as a family and were completely blown away by the "Play by Day, Glow by Night" experience. Everything was fantastic: the glowing jack-o'-lanterns, the parade, and the sheer amount of family fun. It's magical, well-organized, and worth every penny. Highly, highly recommend this for anyone looking for the perfect fall outing! Go make those memories!

Stone Mountain is a massive monolith in Georgia, featuring a carving of Confederate figures. Visitors can access the peak via a cable car or hike up the trail, which offers scenic views and takes about 45 minutes to reach the summit. The park also offers a 5.5-mile loop trail with attractions such as a mill house, lake, and wildlife sightings. Additionally, there's an option for a sky ride experience at an additional cost.
Hike in the main trail from the bottom lot to the top of Stone Mountain is a must do for anyone visiting Atlanta or any resident. The energy of others climbing the mountain and cheering you on is an outstanding feeling and one worth experiencing if you plan to come more than once by the parking pass for $40 instead of the $25 day pass.

Went on Saturday morning 7/5/25 felt so good out there with a nice breeze and low humidity that morning. It was a good hike, with it being my very first hike at Stone Mountain. I normally go to KENNESAW Mountain but that day I decided to go to Stone Mountain to hike over there for the first time and I will definitely be coming back more often I enjoyed it. I was expecting myself to make it to the top within 45 minutes to an hour, but nope I got there sooner. I got there to the top in 30 minutes and 24 seconds from the walk up trail parking lot With 4 stops along the way to catch my breath lasting at least 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Pros: - Parking is relatively cheap inside the park; $20 a car per day, or $40 a car for a whole year. Access is also technically free if you can find parking within the town of Stone Mountain and then just walk into the park. - The natural landscape is pretty beautiful and peaceful (aside from a rather hideous carving on one side of the mountain's face), especially on a sunny day with blue sky. You might even get a close look at some interesting wildlife, like deer, owls, and hawks. - The hike up the mountain poses a good challenge for hikers, runners, or just anyone looking to get in a workout. Took us about 40 minutes from parking lot to peak moving at a steady pace with a couple rest stops. I would rate the difficulty somewhere between 6/10 to 8/10. It is filled with smooth rocky steps that can be a bit slippery and there are sections that get REALLY steep. - At the peak, offers some spectacular views of the surrounding park and lake. On a clear day, you can also see the Metro Atlanta skyline from Downtown to Buckhead to Sandy Springs. I also appreciated the wind and breeze at the peak since this was in the middle of summer. Cons: - A lot of areas on the hiking trail don't have much tree cover, and the mountain feels like one giant smooth slab of concrete, which means on a hot sunny day, the heat can be pretty brutal. Plan and pack accordingly! - I found the Welcome Center at the top to be a little disappointing. Refreshments seemed expensive. At least they had bathrooms and AC.

Amazing experience. We have been there twice, in winter for Christmas and in summer for the 4th of July. I strongly recommend this place. A lot of activities most of them for kids but not only. The nature is amazing and there is also a camping site by the lake. Magical ambiance at night with the Christmas decorations and it is even if it snows. The 4th of July show with drones and fireworks is also amazing. I would go again for a weekend retreat.

Climbed it for a sunrise mountaintop experience, very much worth it. Brought my 3 year old daughter and she was able to walk up most of it only needing help in the very steep parts. Legs were burning but the air was clear and the sunrise was beautiful. Would recommend.

One of the most beautiful places I visited in Atlanta so far. The view is amazing, wonderful sunset, and clean track. You can enter for free by the pedestrians entrance, but I believe you should pay a fee to go by car until the park lot.

Wanted to hike while visiting one of my close childhood friends and we ended up settling for this place the day before I had to head back home. For parking it was $20 so just keep that and mind and it was also $20 for the sky ride if you would like to experience that as well. We had a really good time and are glad we went when we did because we got to watch the sunset which made this hike 10000% better. You can see the whole sky and trees from all different parts of this mountain so makes it cool for a couple different stops. For sure should at least check this place out once if you haven’t been there before..

Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, formerly known as Verizon Amphitheatre, is a premier outdoor venue located just north of Atlanta in Alpharetta. The state-of-the-art amphitheater sits on 45 acres of beautifully landscaped, wooded land and can accommodate up to 12,000 people with pavilion and lawn seating options. From April to October, the venue hosts a variety of big-name acts and events, making it a perfect destination for music lovers.
Attended the Outlaw Music Festival recently and really enjoyed the event. It is a good idea to call the amphitheater for directions to your specific lot. Their directions were much clearer and easier to get to your specific lot than what pops up when you simply input the street address in GoogleMaps. I highly recommend the premier parking lot. Security check at the gate was quick and friendly. I also recommend checking out the merchandise online beforehand. It saves a lot of your time if you have already decided what you want to purchase. Business was brisk, and the vendors were super nice. We sat under cover and enjoyed the comfortable seats. The show was great. So lucky to have seen legends sing. Exiting the parking lot was orderly and quick.

I super love this venue !! We have seen multiple shows here, HALSEY, GOD IS A WEAPON, and their first concert ever back in 2009 to name a few and it’s gotten even better over the years! Great acoustics for an outdoor venue, great drinks, and friendly staff!! Except for ONE staff member that stood out for all the wrong reason. The staff member stationed at section 101, older lady, who took her job way too damn seriously. Who thought she was the gateway to protecting innocence. The last defense from protecting the artist and the precious venue. Whose job she thought was to be rude to anyone who talked to her 🫡🫡🫡🫡 My wife l, me, my friend, anyone she saw. You take away from the experience BY YOURSELF. That’s not an easy feat.

Second time @ this venue. Staff is friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean. Try to pay close attention to the bag policy specifics, but if you don't, it's ok, there is a coat check type station at each entrance. If you're a drinker, I'd go heavy on the pregame, drinks start at almost $20. Definitely will return

Great place for a concert! We have seen several shows here and they all rocked. We just saw Collective Soul here and it was great. The acoustics here are awesome even though its outdoors. Our seats were just okay considering we had a tree view. I also dont like the fact that the place is cashless. Still though this is a cool venue

Venue was awesome! Lawn seating with chair rental for $1. Box seats. Private seating. Regular seats are under the pavilion. Big fans keep air moving. Seats upgrades were available moving us from 104 to the orchestra, dead center stage! Sound was amazing. 2 large screens. Food lines were short and moved quick. $11 refillable sodas. $2 hotdogs. Bring in your own cups with ice and they have filtered water stations. Restrooms were easily accessible and clean!! Staff was knowledgeable and friendly.

We attended the Rod Stewart concert here, our first time visiting this venue. We were very impressed. We elected to sit in the grassy area and it was perfect. A light breeze kept the summer heat from being unbearable. The line to get in was long, but it moved quickly. There were lots of vendors to buy food, drink, souvenirs, etc. Vendors came around offering drinks during the concert. Several people came up to the Will Call window looking for tickets and upgrades. The event was sold out, so I recommend getting your tickets in advance. I hope we get a chance to come back here again soon.

The best venue for a large rock concert in the greater ATL area. The show was amazing! Security was absolutely wonderful. They gave us water when we needed it. They were excellent with pulling crowd surfers over the barricade without injuries. The security was also very fair with distributing items the band threw that missed the crowd. That speaks volumes that they care about keeping the patrons happy and wanting to come back. Thanks for a great show!

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is a 30-acre oasis in the heart of the city, offering a diverse range of attractions for visitors. From its stunning conservatory and enchanting fountains to hosting events like concerts and cocktail parties, it's a popular destination for families and nature enthusiasts alike. The garden is renowned for its world-class plant collections, captivating exhibitions, and unique features such as the Fuqua Orchid Center, showcasing rare high-altitude orchids.
Fantastic garden! Worth the day trip as a date with your partner, your parents or your kids — fun for all ages and group sizes. 🕣 Time spent: 2 hours (not including snack breaks or lunch onsite) The grounds were BEAUTIFUL! Carefully curated and manicured. Walking along the different areas was fun and the most breathtaking part was the conservatory — the 3 different climates housed in there was incredible and the size of the trees, you know they have been in there happy and healthy! ☕️ We even stopped for a food demo at the herb garden and were pleasantly surprised. The chef hosting that day was hilarious and knowledgeable — she had a great personality and taught us about eating (rather, drinking) fig leaf tea! ☀️ Time of year to visit: We unfortunately came at an in between while visiting Atlanta in which they just closed the Alice in Wonderland installation and were building the fall pumpkin themed area — which was closed to the public. It would have been nice is the tickets were discounted since part of the grounds were not accessible during the installation process. 🕐 Wait time: We visited at opening 9 am on a Sunday in late September. The line was minimal (10 min) and the grounds were at a comfortable business. The later in the day around 12, the crowds and lines were definitely more noticeable.

I would say that it was a pleasant experience for a date night once inside the park, though I found the price to be somewhat high. Certain areas were indeed very beautiful and tranquil, and the lighting was quite lovely. However, there were some aspects that were unfortunately quite disappointing and warrant mentioning. I had anticipated more based on the website's photographs, but as expected nothing is in bloom during the winter months, which I believe should be reflected in the pricing, especially since many attractions were closed. Regarding arrival, we were advised to arrive 15 minutes early, which we did. However, we were then informed that we needed to wait until our precise arrival time. This led to a rush of people trying to enter, which took an additional 10-15 minutes. The odor emanating from the restrooms was quite strong and the conditions within were unacceptable. The main entrance also had a noticeable smell of urine and other improperly disposed or uncleaned items from the restrooms. Furthermore, there is an additional charge for parking on top of the ticket price, and the parking garage was quite crowded. Despite these less favorable aspects of my visit, I would still be interested in returning during a time when everything is in bloom, hoping that improvements have been made to the issues I encountered. As i believe in second chances. Overall, it was an acceptable experience, but I had simply expected a bit more.

🌸 Atlanta Botanical Garden: A Whimsical Wonderland in Bloom This was truly something I enjoyed! The Atlanta Botanical Garden is a lush, enchanting escape nestled in the heart of the city. From the moment you enter, you’re greeted with a refreshing cocktail and a sense of magic in the air. The “Alice in Wonderland” theme added a playful, storybook charm—giant mushrooms, whimsical sculptures, and floral displays that felt straight out of a dream. Even with the heat, the beauty of the gardens and the creativity in every corner made it worth wandering. It’s more than a park—it’s a living gallery of nature and imagination. A perfect spot to slow down, sip something sweet, and let your senses bloom.

This was our first time visiting Atlanta, and the botanical garden was on our bucket list. My wife and I really enjoyed walking through all the different themed areas, the whole place was super clean and well taken care of. They gave us a map at the entrance that made it easy to find our way around, which helped a lot since the park is pretty big. The highlight for us was the indoor garden area. It was full of unique plants, facts, and displays—definitely our favorite part and something we’ll remember. We saw plants we’ve never seen before and learned a lot too. Overall, it was a great experience, and we’d for sure come back again in the future. Note: save $4 by buying ticket online but processing is $2.50 per ticket. I loved my visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden! It’s a large and beautiful place to walk around and explore. Depending on the season you visit, you’ll get a different experience. I went during Halloween, and everything was perfectly themed for fall — such a lovely atmosphere! One of my favorite parts was the Fuqua Orchid Center, absolutely stunning! Still, every area of the garden is worth admiring — the flowers, trees, and plants from so many different species make it a magical place. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some frogs in one of the sections! It’s a wonderful and family-friendly spot to enjoy nature and relax. I truly recommend it! 🌸🌳🍁 Also I’m visiting from Florida.

Just spent the day wandering through the Atlanta Botanical Garden, was there for a wedding, and honestly? I’m convinced I accidentally stepped into a fairytale and no one bothered to tell me. 😌💚 From the moment you walk in, it feels like Mother Nature hired her own glam squad. The lush greenery, towering sculptures, and colorful blooms are basically Instagram filters in real life. And don’t get me started on the Canopy Walk — I felt like a mildly adventurous forest elf, 10/10 would frolic again. 🧝‍♀️🌳 The Orchid Center? Pure magic. Like someone took every shade of "wow" and convinced it to grow petals. And yes, I absolutely pretended I was in a tiny jungle documentary while strolling through. Narration voice included. 📸🐒 If you need a peaceful escape, a cute date spot, or the perfect backdrop for pretending you’re living your soft-life dreams, this place is it. 🌸✨ Rating: 5 out of 5 enchanted leaves. 🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃 Would recommend: Anyone who likes plants, pretty things, or pretending they’re royalty in a botanical kingdom. 👑🌼 Go. Wander. Take too many pictures. Your camera roll will thank you. 📷💚

Sights & Landmarks
The Fox Theatre, a restored opulent theater built in the 1920s, is a historic landmark that has been repurposed into a modern performance venue.
We want to watch "Back to the Future, The Musical" and had a fabulous time period. Great seats and decent prices on concessions. This is a historically old theater so its a bit quirky with seating numbers. But very beautiful decor and amazing theater.

Catching Back to the Future at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta was an incredible experience! The Fox itself is a show before the show—the Egyptian-themed interior is breathtaking, unique, and every seat offers a great view of the stage. The production brought back so many childhood memories. The acting was spot-on, and the stage effects were seriously impressive. You could feel the joy in the audience the entire time. If Back to the Future makes a stop in a city near you, I highly recommend going. It’s nostalgic, fun, and a true crowd-pleaser!

⭐️⭐️ As someone who adores a historic Atlanta landmark and loves a good spooky story, I had high hopes for the Haunted History Tour at the iconic Fox Theatre. The idea of exploring one of the city’s most beautiful venues definitely sparked my curiosity — I was ready for ghostly tales, eerie legends, and maybe even a peek behind the velvet curtain. Unfortunately, the experience fell a bit flat. While the tour was rich in historical detail, it didn’t quite deliver on the “haunted” side of things. We weren’t able to access many of the areas I’d been hoping for — no stage, backstage views, or even the mysterious hospital room I’ve always heard whispers about. I was secretly hoping for a ride in what I’m convinced is the original freight elevator, but that didn’t happen either. For $25, I expected something a bit more immersive or exclusive — something that would make me see the Fox in a new light beyond what you’d experience attending a show. Instead, it felt more like a standard history tour with light spooky seasoning. I still think the Fox is one of Atlanta’s most magical spaces, and I’d love to come back next year to try their Ghost Tour, which I hear leans more into animated storytelling and atmosphere. But as for the Haunted History Tour — once was enough..but definitely at 1/2 the price.

Super venue! Saw Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson in the VIP Orchestra section. Stayed for a Q & A. The architecture in the Fox is a magnificent Moroccan classic style. The bathroom lighting is ancient and it could use an update. Otherwise it is a fabulous venue
Shez K — Google review
This is my first time at the Fox. I could never find a show that was suitable to my liking. But long and behind, The Rock Orchestra arrive! This experience was the upmost needed. The Fox Theatre is beyond beautiful. I love all the original features. The seats are spacious. Didn’t feel like I was sitting on top of anyone and plenty of lag space. Plenty of vendor cashiers stations. I will be looking for more shows in 2026 just to come back and visit The Fox

Amazing! Wonderful staff. I couldn't get tickets to see ludovico einaudi while he was in MD, but snatched up pit seats at the fox. Beautiful venue.

Saw John Fogerty. Awesome show. John's voice sounds like it did when he played at Woodstock with Credence in 1969. If you have the opportunity to see him this tour, do it. He's 80 years old, but still plays those guitars like a spring chicken. Fox Theatre is a great venue. Acoustics are excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Joy T — Google review
My favorite Atlanta venue. EVER. I've seen concerts, comedians, and shows. The best acoustics in the area, I think. I've NEVER been disappointed. Awesome venue. Awesome staff. My only negative comment is the double jack is smaller than a normal shot. Really? If I pay $24 for a double shot, I expect 2 shots. That said, I'll be back. But I won't drink there again. 😂

Specialty Museums
Located in Atlanta, the World of Coca-Cola is a museum that showcases the history and success of the iconic soft drink that debuted in the city in 1886. The museum features interactive exhibits, films, and memorabilia related to Coca-Cola's journey from Dr. John Pemberton's headache syrup to becoming a global phenomenon. Visitors can enjoy a 4D theater experience and taste over 100 Coke products from around the world.
This was such a fun experience to share with my sister! Growing up in a poor family, having a Coca-Cola at home meant it was Christmas or a very special celebration. So learning about its history and exploring the galleries brought back so much nostalgia. I also loved the interactive areas and games! There are plenty of great photo spots too, just be ready to wait a bit or find a less crowded corner. Definitely a must-visit when in Atlanta!
BA — Google review
The World of Coca-Cola was a fun experience overall, though definitely more about the brand than the history behind it. There’s a little bit of nostalgia and storytelling sprinkled in, but most of it feels like one big advertisement — which, to be fair, is kind of what you expect when visiting the home of Coke. My favorite part was easily the picture scanners that morph your face into vintage Coca-Cola ads — such a clever and entertaining touch that makes for great keepsakes. The soda tasting room, on the other hand, was a bit too crowded to really enjoy. It’s fun in theory, but hard to savor the experience when you’re shoulder-to-shoulder with people. Still, it’s worth a visit if you’re in Atlanta and want a lighthearted, bubbly stop full of photo ops and brand nostalgia. Also please note you can find a cheaper ticket if you purchase from a third party.
Spencer I — Google review
A fun visit overall! The exhibits were engaging, and the atmosphere was lively and well-curated. The Coke tasting room was definitely the highlight—it felt like the most interactive and entertaining part of the experience. That said, most of the foreign soda options weren’t very good to our taste, but it was still fun to try them all. Great for families or anyone curious about the brand’s global reach. Worth checking out at least once!
Wa Q — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit! There were many exhibits and things to see. We especially liked being able to taste all the different flavors from around the world. On the downside, there were several from here in the states. I mean, I guess when you're visiting from another country here, it'd be nice, but just something we noticed. My daughter's favorite was from Germany. My favorite was from Thailand. If you know when you plan to go, save yourself a few bucks and purchase tickets on the site.
Heather A — Google review
They make you sit through two terrible movies, the first time just to enter into the place, really didn't add anything to the experience. You just had to stand around for 6 minutes to wait to go in. Then you sat there for 6 minutes and hoped it ended. The movie looks like it was filmed on a go camera tied to a Jack Russell, it was so jumpy and you were so close up it was making me ill ( motion sickness) same with the vault video, pictures racing around your head, then tadah!!! You get to see the vault with the only written copy of the recipe (they don't actually use any more) Not much on the history just wall space. I did like saying some of the old advertisements they had on the walls before you went in to see the first movie. You basically pay $20 per person to taste and drink all the soda you can handle. Gives shaps a lot of expensive t-shirts and some other Coca-Cola stuff, the shirts on sale and you can get souvenir t-shirts anywhere from $15 to $40 on sale. The lab is where the soul of your shoes get sticky and you get to taste their new experiment. Sprite from Germany was the best. the different fantasy, and vitamin waters were good. Sour plum from Korea was the worst, it actually tastes like liquid smoke YUCK 🤢 Warning Wednesday seem to be couple school field trips. We saw probably a couple hundred kids waiting to go in. You don't want to be in there on those days so make sure you haven't made it in at that time with all the kids.
Kristy B — Google review
More of a CocaCola tasting experience than a full attraction. You start with a display of vintage Coke ads and characters, followed by a short intro video before entering the main tasting area. The highlight is sampling flavors from around the world as much as you like. Loved the dramatic door opening into Coke World and my favorites - Fanta Melon Frosty and Royal Watermelon. Labs aren’t necessary; the main draw is the tasting and the merchandise store. Not really worth visiting if you’re not particularly interested in tasting cola flavors.

Had a few hours off and went to the Coca-Cola museum. Had only around 1.5 hours, but would advise to spend at least 2 hours to see and experience everything. Quit interesting history, fun to mix your own drinks and challenge how good sense of smell you got!

If you're a Coke fan, it's great. Lots to see and taste. I'm just a standard drinker who was there for an event. It was interesting to try variants from other countries for sure, and I'd make it a stop if you have time but there are more interesting places to see in the area. For me personally I'd give it a 3, but I'm rating it for the target audience. :)

Zoos & Aquariums
The Georgia Aquarium is a renowned attraction and one of the largest aquariums globally, featuring thousands of animals from hundreds of species across eight galleries. From freshwater creatures in the 'Southern Company River Scout' exhibit to massive whale sharks in the 'Ocean Voyager' gallery, the aquarium offers a diverse marine life experience. Additionally, visitors can enjoy special events like Sips Under the Sea, transforming the family-friendly destination into an adults-only cocktail party with live music and exclusive access to all galleries.
This place is truly magical. From the moment we stepped in, there was so much to see and do. The layout is uniquely organized and allows you to explore at your own pace. We went during the month of October, so got the added bonus of The Haunted Seas decor tastefully added around. The sheer size of the tanks and habitats were very impressive and even though it was crowded, there was still room for everyone to move around and explore at their own pace. Plenty of information on display, as well as employees throughout both offering further educational info and being available for any questions. There were also quite a few tunnels that take you under tanks, for different viewpoints. There are dolphin and sea lion shows available, included in general admission but needing spots to be reserved ahead of time. For us, there were many highlights. From the whale shark, to the belugas, to the tiger shark, to the dolphins. We spent a little over 2 hours here but could easily have spent longer. Would highly recommend this aquarium to all who love the ocean and the creatures who call it home.

Beautiful aquarium with a great variety of creatures to visit! The lighting was really nice! We had a great time. Especially enjoyed the interactive activities. I appreciated the water fountain in the aquarium. The bathrooms were really clean as well. Souvenir store needs some improvement to get more revenue. Need to reserve sea lion and dolphin shows well in advance! We didn’t know and didn’t get to see them.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Amazing Experience! The Georgia Aquarium is incredible! The exhibits are beautifully done, and the marine life is just stunning. The Ocean Voyager tunnel with the whale sharks and manta rays is a must-see — truly breathtaking. The dolphin and sea lion shows were super fun and well put together. Everything was clean, well-organized, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a great spot for families, couples, or anyone who loves the ocean. Highly recommend spending a few hours here — you won’t be disappointed! 🌊🐠

We had a great day at the Georgia Aquarium. Staff were friendly and the place was spotless. The dolphin show was a blast, and I wish we had time for the sea lion show as well. My favorite part was standing in front of the huge Ocean Voyager window and watching the whale sharks and manta rays glide by. The tunnel and that massive viewing window make it feel like you are inside the tank. The shark exhibit was another highlight. Parking is paid in the deck next door, which makes sense downtown, just plan for it. Food is on the pricey side, so consider eating before or after. My only gripe is the layout, which felt a little awkward, but once you settle in it is easy to lose track of time in front of the big tank. Tip if you go: reserve seats for the dolphin show and arrive a little early so you are not rushing. I would absolutely go back. It is surprisingly relaxing to stand at that main window and let everything else fade out.

Georgia Aquarium is the best aquarium in the country. There are so many areas to explore, learn, and to be amazed at oceanic life. The shows are spectacular, engaging, and phenomenal. The tanks are massive and inspiring. There are so many undersea creatures to see in every tank. It’s truly amazing to watch the fish, sharks, anemones, and all the rest co-existing. There are beluga whales, giant turtles, otters, penguins, jellyfish, and so many more species. The performances are all top-notch. You get to be entertained while you learn about oceanography, marine biology, and other scientific topics. We splurged on the backstage tour option and it was magical. We met a few performers, got to hold some of the props, and learned even more about the amazing animals in the aquarium. We suggest at least two days to truly explore and appreciate the grandeur of Georgia Aquarium. It’s a huge, sprawling campus dedicated to education and awe-inspiration, as well as raising awareness about our oceanic friends. Everyone should visit at least once.

Definitely a great experience! Don’t miss the Dolphin and Sea Lion presentations - especially the Dolphin show, which was absolutely captivating. The presentation is entertaining, engaging, and beautifully showcases the Dolphins in an intuitive way. Beyond that, you’ll get to see a wide variety of marine life from around the world. The aquarium is well-maintained and easy to navigate, making the visit enjoyable for all ages.
AJINKYA P — Google review
Well kept and safe. We visited during a weekday afternoon and found affordable parking just a few blocks away. I do not recommend visiting this area with young children after dark unless you are well escorted. Inside the aquarium you'll find first class accommodations for guests. As you would expect, this is a wonderland for young children to learn more about marine life and explore another part of our planet that might not otherwise be available to them any other way. The aquarium can be fully explored in just one day and in only a few hours if you aren't attending any of the special programs that are offered in addition to the general admission. The venue provides clean restrooms and a cafe area to take a nutrition break or just to sip a beverage and catch your breath. The kids were having a blast and there are hands-on areas as well as many walk through opportunities that allow little ones to crawl through caves for a fun and personal experience made specially for the little tykes. The gift shop is quite expensive, but if you're well funded and looking for a pleasing way to support the aquarium, I'm pretty sure that you'll find quality gifts to share with the members of your family during your visit. Across from the Aquarium is the World of Coca-Cola nostalgia museum, giving those who still have leftover stores of energy and want to move on to the next venue a chance for additional exploration time.

Definitely big enough to make a day out of it. Kids love getting to see so many fish from so many angles. There is places to buy food too making it nice not having to go somewhere to eat then come back. Kids love getting to touch the stingray. Highly recommend going .

The Jimmy Carter National Historical Park is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. It features well-preserved buildings connected to former President Carter, such as his boyhood farm and school. Visitors can start at Plains High School, the visitor center where Carter and his wife Rosalynn graduated. The Boyhood Farm offers a glimpse into the president's upbringing, where he helped his father cultivate various crops.
We thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits in the high school, the depot, and Carter's boyhood farm. Very educational and well done. We also browsed in the shops and enjoyed lunch at the cafe.

Had known about this place for a while but didn't really think about visiting here until recently, and it happened to be on my travel route when driving up from Florida. I found it a little hard to find the place first; driving there the roads are really country roads. First of all, visited Plains High School, which is now a museum, the boyhood home, and the 1976 Presidential Campaign Headquarters (orginally a train depot; now a museum). Park ranger at the High School was helpful and so was another ranger (in overalls) at the boyhood home. We also drove by the "Smiling Peanut" statue (that simulates the famous "Carter smile") too. Very interesting exhibits and information on display.

This National Park is in the old Plains High School building. They have amazing exhibits showing different times of Jimmy Carter’s life and career. There is an exhibit of Jimmy Carter’s high school class. It is interesting to see that they needed to use ink wells just to write on paper. Complete contrast to lead pencils we use today. There is exhibits showing Jimmy Carter’s political career as well. How everything looked at an old ballet box to a replica of the oval office desk. It has a lot of interesting information and is worth a trip to see.

This a great place to see what elements go into making a President. There are several locations at this site and the best place to start is the old Plains High School. This really sets the tone for how important learning is to President Carter's success. It is also a good reminder of how much education has changed, and maybe not for the better. On your way to the home be sure to check out Billy Carter's gas station. At the childhood home I was the only person there. (My wife stayed in the car) This location set the tone for learning how hard work and how to treat others affected the rest of President Carter's life as his time with Habitat for Humanity would demonstrate. Be sure to look at all the buildings and see how much more simple things were and how much more meaningful many things were because you had to work for and earn what you had. This a great trip to combine with a visit to Andersonville.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Reverent and Beautiful Tribute to a Humble Giant Visiting the final resting place of President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter is a moving, peaceful experience. Nestled within their hometown of Plains, Georgia, the new Carter Presidential Park is everything it should be: accessible, dignified, and lovingly maintained. The portraits inside the museum are striking, especially Jimmy’s official White House portrait—calm, confident, and thoughtful—just like the man himself. Rosalynn’s portrait glows with quiet grace. Outdoors, the garden and burial site are immaculate. The headstones are modest, surrounded by blooming flowers, green lawn, and shaded by old Georgia trees. A paved path leads through the memorial garden and around a serene pond with a fountain. It’s peaceful and soul-soothing—exactly how you’d picture the Carters would want to be remembered. A special touch is the garden tribute to their grandson Jeremy—a reminder that this is still, at its heart, a family home. Whether you’re a history buff, admirer of the Carters, or just someone seeking a quiet moment, this place honors a life of service with simple beauty and deep respect. Worth the journey. ⸻

Always wanted to stop here and now have the chance. Took the scenic route from Georgia Veterans State Park to Plains and wasn’t disappointed. Try the National Park Service app for a guided tour of the town. Spent all day going to the various places including antique stores. Free admission to all the sites. Car buffs might enjoy Billy Carter’s service station. Final stop was the impressive Carter home overlook gravesite.

Providence Canyon State Park

Nature & Parks
Picnic sites, miles of trails & campgrounds alongside deep, multi-colored canyons.
An unforgettable stop at Providence Canyon State Park! Absolutely breathtaking — photos simply don’t do it justice. Seeing the canyon in person gives you such an appreciation for its incredible size and beauty. We learned at the end of our visit that the overlook is on the left before the welcome center, so be sure to stop there first! From the welcome center, you can explore a variety of beautiful trails suited for all experience levels. It truly feels like walking through a painting. This is definitely a must-see!
Danny B — Google review
A neat place to see interesting rock formations and walk some trails Providence Canyon, often called Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon,” is in some ways a “diamond in teh rough” and in other ways rundown. It is a worthwhile stop about 28 miles southwest from Plains. The park offers several short trails and overlooks that make it easy to take in the colorful canyon walls without needing to hike for hours. The visitors center is small but informative, and the staff is friendly. The center explains the park’s history — including how this landscape formed from poor 19th-century farming practices that caused massive erosion. The result today is a maze of deep gullies and cliffs striped with red, orange, and white layers of clay that look a lot like parts of Grand Canyon or Bryce Canyon. There are trails that start at the center to go down into the canyon and provide interesting views. I think the views from the top of the canyon that you can drive to are really nice. But, with all that said, the park could use a bit more upkeep. Some of the wooden viewing platforms and railings are showing their age, and a few paths could benefit from fresh gravel and clearer signage. Still, the raw beauty of the canyons more than makes up for it. It’s a great half-day trip — a little rough around the edges but full of color and good sights/views. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Enjoy!

It was great experience! We enjoyed walk and 2 trails. We packed our lunch from home they have nice picnic tables. If you are planning to visit you must have good shoes, googles, snacks, water bottle, sunscreen, hat. Plan to go early morning then you will enjoy all trails. Best for photography.view is awesome! Camping is also there . It features massive gullies and canyons as deep as 150 feet, with soil that has beautiful pink, orange, red, and purple colors. But the Main fact is the canyons were not formed naturally by a river. They were created in the 1800s by massive soil erosion caused by poor farming practices.

Providence Canyon State Park is a beautiful and unique spot for a day outdoors with the family. The canyon views are amazing, and the colorful rock walls feel like something out of the Southwest. There are two main trails: a shorter 2-hour hike and a longer 7-hour loop, so it’s best to plan ahead based on your time and energy. We stuck with the shorter trail, and it was perfect with kids. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes—some areas are muddy or wet—and bring plenty of water, especially on warmer days. The trails aren’t crowded, and there are restrooms and a visitor center on site. Great for families who want a little adventure without a packed crowd!

A truly unique experience! I explored Canyons 1 through 5 from both the top and down below. The views were absolutely breathtaking— each vantage point offered something different and unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone who loves dramatic landscapes and scenic beauty. I will hopefully be returning in the future.

Gorgeous! The vires from the overlooks are stunning but if you're able, don't skip walking the floor of the canyon! Feels like you're in another world down there. The canyon floor does stay wet... Not squishy wet but a trickle of water flowing over sandy ground. Waterproof boots are recommended, but I did fine just treading lightly in regular tennis shoes. Well maintained and clear trail on Canyon Loop trail, but Also be prepared to climb steep hills.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING ended a show with video from this park. We were so intrigued that we started researching it for our October 2025 road trip. We are so glad we came. It was incredible! We visited the visitor center the first day, before it closed at 5. Rangers were friendly and helpful. We got a map for our hike the next day, and bought some provisions for our stay at a Florence Marina State Park cabin up the road. The next day we hiked down the steep, rocky terrain to the signs for all the trails. We chose Canyons 4-5, which were flat, and less wet & less difficult to hike than Canyons 1-3, and other trails. The views were spectacular! We noticed the puddles of water & wondered why some were silvery and bright. When we asked the ranger in the visitor center, she didn't know. The hike back up to the visitor center required several stops at Boy Scout donated benches. Thank you, Boy Scouts! My asthmatic lungs needed the respites. At the visitor center, we used the boot cleaning mats and hose to wash off the red clay of Ga. On the way out of the park, we stopped at the restrooms on the right of the road. This is where we got the BEST photos! Stop, get out and walk to the fences. You will be thrilled with the view. We were. This is our now favorite park in GA.
