Founded by Paul and Carol Cummings, the museum boasts a remarkable collection of over 150 American-made cars and trucks, showcasing decades of automotive history. Visitors can also explore the gift shop offering nostalgic die-cast collectibles and car-themed souvenirs.
My dad and I wanted to stop by here while we were on vacation. It's definitely worth the time and money to walk around to see such great cars. And for me, it was great to hear my dad talk about the cars and his memories!! We spent a good 2 hours walking around and enjoying each car. We also had a great time having a conversation with the main manager (sorry forgot his name) and his enjoyment talking about the cars and the owners. We will definitely stop by again when we are back in town, to see which cars they swap around.
Jane A — Google review
This museum is a gem for anyone who loves classic cars. The staff are genuinely friendly and make you feel welcome right from the start. There’s an impressive selection of vehicles on display, and the curator does a great job rotating the cars every so often, so there’s always something new to see on return visits. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting—you can take your time admiring the details, and there’s even a guest book where visitors sign in and share where they’ve traveled from, which adds a fun, personal touch. Before heading out, the small gift shop is worth a stop for a souvenir to remember the visit. All in all, it’s a wonderful little museum that delivers a lot of charm for classic car enthusiasts, whether you’re a casual admirer or a die-hard collector at heart.
Megan K — Google review
If you are into cars, this place is a must! Truly a lifetime collection. Over 100 cars that you can walk right up to. Collector has another 100+/- so museum is always changing. Self guided tour. A lot of additional photos and articles. Little pricey but well worth the money. Large gift shop. Been multiple times in the past and will be coming back in the future. To Paul and family/friends, thank you for sharing
Brian H — Google review
If you like old cars and some history with it this is the place to be. When we first Walked in we were greeted by two employees, after checkout he gave us some history of this place when it started who the owners were. Worth the trip.
Amanda H — Google review
A buddy of mine visited from out of town and I had never been here before - thought it would be a great place to see. It definitely didn't disappoint. The employee there gave a short spiel on why the museum exists and then sent us on our way. There are a hundred different classic cars to see and admission was $22 a person. Glad I went. I'm planning to bring my father and sister when they visit for Turkey Day.
Karl W — Google review
What a neat place. They have many older cars models and, according the the man working there, they switch them out every so often so that there are new ones to see.
Rebecca H — Google review
There's a lot to see if you're into cars and a fair amount to see if you just like old stuff. The employee we met was super friendly and helpful. Slightly pricy for what it is but maybe standard for car enthusiasts.
Judi R — Google review
Great museum with a lot of classic cars - They alternate the cars once a year. Great staff, cute gift shop. Come check it out

Tanger Outlets Myrtle Beach Hwy 501 is a shopper's paradise, offering an impressive selection of brand-name and designer outlet stores. Located conveniently along Highway 501, this vibrant shopping destination caters to every fashionista's needs with a diverse range of specialty shops. From trendy apparel at Adidas and Nine West Outlet to stylish accessories from Michael Kors and Ecco, you'll find everything you need for your beach getaway or everyday wear.
I chose the outlet last Wednesday due to inclement weather with rain and gusty winds making walking in the park or outside impossible. In navigating the ins and outs of the complex, I realized I needed shoes specifically for walking outside, trails, etc…and purchased four pairs from two different stores. There’s a wide variety of stores with some ones offering usual, different, and nostalgic items.
Bradley M — Google review
First time here.its HUGE. Clean. Not enough direction for restrooms... Went looking for a specific pair of skechers at their store... didn't have my size found. Em at famous footwear... Said they were BOGO clearance... cashier definitely rang it up reg. Went back to dispute this problem. He refused to half process it. ...

Come at opening between 9:30-10am. Clean, no crowds and the best service.
Enjoy L — Google review
The tiger outlets are very quiet. There are some good stores with great discounts. One things that I like there was an American Eagle clearance store most expensive item in the store was $19.99. I really like the coach factory outlet. They had a great selection. I was able to get two leather purses for $355. They have a loft outlet. They have a Ralph Lauren, a torrid a Case jewelers and some shoe stores also sunglass hut.. quiet and clean
Holycityfitblonde — Google review
This is an outdoor open space outlet mall. Lots of plants and sitting area in between the pavements and sections. Lots of good stores avalanche like Nike, Under Armor, Crocs, Forever 21, Coach, Gap, Banana Republic, and Polo Ralph Lauren. All the stores offer good discounts and sale offers. Prices are very reasonable taking the discounted price in consideration. Multiple small vendors are around the outlet selling nuts, drinks and ice creams. The parking lot is close to the shops. I was able to walk to my car few times to drop off shopping bags while we shopped around.
Nehal A — Google review
I had a good experience here, not really a whole lot else to say other than it is outdoors so you might not want to come on a rainy day. Plenty of parking!
Beastlycharizard13 — Google review
Its nice, had stores that I haven't seen at other Tanger outlets. The prices in some stores were great. They had a 7 brew next to it, love there drinks/coffee. Overall great experience.
Cassandra A — Google review
Outlet stores are no longer outlets, but shopping malls. The stores here, for the most part, did not have discount items, although a few stores had "clearance" sections. This outlet is no different. Plenty of clean, well lit, well stocked stores, but the prices are just like going to any regular store to shop.

Located just a short drive from the beach, it offers an extensive selection of top brand names such as Michael Kors, Ann Taylor, Gap, Vans, Kate Spade, Adidas, Clarks, Crocs, Talbots, Coach and Calvin Klein.
A wonderful convenient outlet built for visitors comfort and exhilarating shopping experience. Lots of free parking all around the outlet to start with. The walkways are very clean and covered with roof. Saved is from multiple random passing showers. There are lots of sitting areas for shoppers to rest. Multiple small stalls selling drinks and ice creams. Vending machines are available as well for drinks and snacks. There are water spray play area for kids. They have excellent collection of stores, some that are not in the Highways 501 outlet like Oakley, Disney, Kate Spade, Tory Burch and North Face, few that I noticed. The shops have excellent inventory with discount on most of them. The prices were great for the products. We shopped so much stuff from Adidas, Disney, Oakley, Old Navy and bunch of others. Very different experience from NJ/NY area outlets.
Nehal A — Google review
My kids really enjoyed the splash pad... Please don't ever remove this feature! I really liked the food court! The Tanger outlets in mebane, where we live, obviously doesn't have that option. We also appreciate that this location has more stores than that of the Mebane, NC location and the other Myrtle Beach location (that we visited yesterday)
Anestazia L — Google review
Great outlets. Food court has good options. Most of the stores have consistently great deals. It stays busy, but it's not typically too crazy. There is also a lot of coverings between the stores, so a good option for a rainy day. Kids love tossing coins into the fountain. Bathrooms are cleaned fairly often, and there is a family bathroom as well.
Meagan W — Google review
It's great. Lots of stores and discounts. It's a great time to start your holiday shopping. I found lots of things. I like that the food court is separated and on the inside. There is fashion, jewelry, toys, and so much more from every major store. I even got to take pictures of Bumblebee from the Transformer movie. I'll be back.
Bren — Google review
Space Battle at Tanger Outlet is an exhilarating experience! The immersive atmosphere, combined with cutting-edge technology, makes every moment thrilling. The staff is friendly and helpful, ensuring everyone has a blast. The variety of targets caters to all ages, making it perfect for families or friends. I highly recommend visiting for a unique and exciting adventure!

This place was great. Had really good deals. I spent a lot of money with my family. Had a really good time. Lots of good stores and everything is close. I've been to outlets were i litterally had to drive around to shop. Found everything i needed and wanted. A must stop if you love to shop. Also every store i went to had military discount.
Patrick W — Google review
We had a fantastic time at the outlet mall. Spending time (and money) here was how we kicked off my Son's birthday. There were so many great shops like Merrill, Oakley, Ulta, and Old Navy.
Miranda F — Google review
Really like the setup of this outlet. Large variety of stores to check out and choose just about whatever you like. My wife was able to find some places that she was a fan of. Real easy to drive in and out of as well.

Pullen Park is a lovely, clean, and family-friendly place in Raleigh. It's truly a hidden gem! The park's gorgeous gardens and calm atmosphere make it a great spot for relaxing and enjoying nature walks. The variety of flowers and plants is amazing, and the peaceful vibe is perfect for getting away from the busy city life. The park has a fantastic mix of fun activities like the cute train ride, paddle boating, and the classic carousel — all at very reasonable ticket prices. It's free to enter the park! There are nice walking trails, and you can take a leisurely stroll around the pond. There are lots of shelters and play areas for kids with equipment and clean restrooms. The beautiful flowerbeds and landscaping create a very tranquil environment so close to town. We've visited this place countless times, and it's about time I wrote a review. The park has always been kept clean. I highly recommend visiting Pullen Park for a breath of fresh air!
Raghu G — Google review
I saved this location in maps to explore one day with my children and all I can say is WOW!! This park is absolutely beautiful! From the ground being well kept and fun to walk around to the different types of parks to play in based on age. We didn't get to experience the paddle boats because we arrived a little later than expected but the train and carousel were a lot of fun and only $2 a person, ya'll!! We're already looking forward to going back again soon... Thank you to all of the staff as well for being helpful and friendly when needed!
Celia J — Google review
This park is so cute. You have a very cheap train ride for the kids. A nice quick loop around the water with a gorgeous fountain at the center and a couple of bridges crossing the water. There is some food and drinks too and a small playground as well. I believe they have paddle boats but only during the weekends and in good weather. Definitely a great place to go alone or with family and pets!
Omar O — Google review
Pullen Park is such a charming and family-friendly spot in Raleigh! The park is beautifully maintained with scenic walking paths shaded by tall trees, plus a peaceful pond that makes for a relaxing stroll. It’s well organized and offers plenty of activities that children and adults alike will enjoy. We had planned to try the pedal boats, but since they’re only available on weekends, we opted for the train ride instead. The train was a delightful experience and a fun way to see more of the park while enjoying the breeze. Although the day was a bit too hot for us to stay long, we still had a wonderful time. On a cooler day, this would be the perfect place to spend hours enjoying the outdoors, picnicking, or simply exploring. Overall, Pullen Park is a gem in the area and a must-visit for families. We can’t wait to return! Cheers 🥂
Mr. D — Google review
They have a great playground for different ages. Very fun to be able to take a train ride and a ride on the carousel. $2 a ticket per person its not a bad price. We didn't get to do any other rides but I would recommend visiting. Feels very safe
Homestead D — Google review
Took my kiddos here who are 8 and 9. They did have a lot of fun. I’d say it’s geared more for younger. But they still had a blast! Road the train multiple times, played at the parks and did the carousel. We got lunch at the cafe, which everyone loved. Was very clean and well kept all over. We had fun just wondering and looking.
Rachel B — Google review
One of the oldest parks in Raleigh. Carousel, train, little boats to ride, Caboose, and paddle boats. Paddle boats are seasonal. Cafe with outdoor seating. Great place to spend morning or late afternoon. Nostalgia
Alisa B — Google review
We’ve visited Pullen Park a few times now, and overall it’s a beautiful, family-friendly place. Parking can be hit or miss — sometimes easy, other times tough to find a spot. During one visit, we did feel uneasy watching a few young men in safety vests handing out “where to park” flyers while pushing and shoving each other near the entrance. On weekends, especially Saturdays, the park is much busier than weekday mornings. During our latest visit on Friday, Nov 7th, we didn’t realize the train was closed for an event, which was disappointing, but we did get to ride the carousel again. It opened a bit late due to maintenance, which was understandable, and the staff were kind and professional. The carousel itself is always a highlight — clean, well maintained, and a nice length of ride. The park grounds are beautiful and make for a perfect spot to celebrate with family, enjoy a picnic, or just unwind with a book under the trees.

This place is absolutely amazing to take your young kids to! My four year old had tons of fun every corner she went to explore. A lot of kids there so be prepared for yours to either interact or feel socially uncomfortable. Location is great too and parking isn't too bad. The gift shop, like every gift ever, is a bit pricey but has a lot to offer. Overall I'd go again with the little ones!

This museum blew us away! It's definitely the best museum we've ever been to, and definitely worth the money and the trip to Raleigh. The entrance fee is incredibly reasonable compared to other museums, making it even more attractive. The place is truly fun and educational. The innovative hands-on exhibits are fantastic, engaging kids of all ages. We loved the award-winning programs and the larger-than-life movies. It's a perfect blend of entertainment and learning, perfect for kids and those young at heart. Highly recommended!

Went here on a field trip and it was the best thing ever! I really enjoy how many activities the establishment had, and how they welcome everyone no matter what. Even as a child, or even as an adult, you can come here and enjoy yourself and just have a good time in general. 5/5 stars! My favorite part was definitely the origami portion!

The exhibits are creative, educational, and designed to engage kids of all ages — from toddlers to school-age children. Every section encourages imagination and curiosity, whether it’s the water play area, the pretend town, or the science and building exhibits. The museum is clean, well-organized, and staff members are friendly and helpful. The IMAX theater is an added bonus, making it a complete family experience. It’s a perfect destination for families, school trips, or weekend fun. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Raleigh.

This is definitely a wonderful place for kids to explore their their motor skills, creativity and imagination. I absolutely love all the areas and outdoor activities. My 2-year-old and 4-year-old had a ball. However, it was frustrating that the staff has little to no input or comments when rules aren't being followed and most of the parents are on their phone instead of attending to their child. Seemed like a drop off daycare where the kids went wild and the parents tuned out. We love the sensory room because my 4-year-old is on the spectrum and needed to calm down a little. However was unable to do so because even with posted signs it was treated as if any other room. Staff came in as part of a tour yet failed to tell the two phone parents in the room the purpose of the room. But we find this anywhere. There is so much for the children to do. Just make sure you're a parent that participates with your child instead of holding up the wall while your child pushes Littles
Lady R — Google review
My husband and I were on the fence about going here. I wish we would have came earlier! Our 2 year old had so much fun and would have loved to stay longer. Endless opportunities for pretend play, sensory activities, creative works, and physicality! This place has so much opportunity to create impactful and bonding moments with your child. Wish we had this in Detroit!
Holly G — Google review
I took my daughter here even though I wasn't sure how much she would be able to do. She just turned 2 but because of a genetic disorder, her mobility is very limited for her age. I was so incredibly impressed with how inclusive this museum was. We LOVED the quiet sensory rooms where she could play at her own pace without big kids making it unsafe. We were having so much fun that we didn't even realize there was a 2nd floor until we were about to leave, so then we stayed longer to play with the big legos! Thank you for putting so much thought into this museum. This is a dream come true for a mama of a special needs kid! I wish I had something this amazing where I live. Bonus points for having a "tasted toys" bin to keep everything sanitary. Part of my daughter's disorder makes her want to put everything in her mouth, so we returned A LOT of toys lol
Ashley D — Google review
This is one of the best children’s museums that I have ever been to. The people are nice and fantastic. It’s ultra clean and there are exhibits and different spaces to keep the kids entertained for hours and hours and hours. You could honestly spend all day here and still not cover everything. Also, it’s very reasonably priced.

When exploring the vibrant city of Raleigh, no itinerary is complete without a visit to the North Carolina Museum of History. This captivating museum offers an immersive journey through the state's past, showcasing everything from its prehistoric roots to contemporary times. With a variety of permanent and special exhibitions, there's something for everyone—whether you're a history enthusiast or just curious about North Carolina's rich heritage.
We entered the 3D room to see a T REX exhibition, which was very educational so that children and not so children could learn in a fun way. The museum staff did a wonderful job, everything was very well taken care of.

Entry is free and you can easily spend all day here. Huge wide range of items to examine on display from lots of different eras. An immensely interesting collection and a must-visit in Raleigh, the pictures I've added don't even scratch the surface, there's so much to view here!
Thomas B — Google review
Unfortunately, the only floor that was open was the first floor as they will be closing in one month so that they can do a three-year renovation. The good thing is it was free and very interesting as I have not been to Raleigh North Carolina before. It was a good two hour walk-through of the complete history from Neolithic days up until now. I do look forward to the reopening in three years to see what they can come up with I’m sure it will be much better.

Brought my family here for a visit and we had a great time. Every time we visit, there is a new amazing experience. My son enjoys learning from the staff and stations set up throughout the museum. Looking forward to coming back and learning more!
Gloria E — Google review
This museum is free, has restrooms, gift shops, and a cafe that is sometimes open. The parking lot near it charges cash and about $2 per hour. The museum is great, there is so much to see, there are about 4 floors and 2 buildings. It is fantastic for kids and adults. There are live animals and insects as well. There are also films in both buildings. The fun demonstrations and activities are usually done on weekends but a weekday is nice and calm if you don't like being around too many people. The museum has animals, plants, insects, rocks, wood, and dinosaurs. You will spend at least 2 hours here but could easily spend 4.
Jacy H — Google review
It is a very well maintained museum. The staff were very friendly, had a great time seeing all the exhibits from olden times maintained in the best way possible. And it's open to the public for free, but you can do your part by offering small donations. My favorites were a couple of exhibits with houses and rooms which were about 150 years old and also a few exhibits where they recreated models of scenes from the past, the one I have in my pics. This is a good place to learn and feel the history of North Carolina. Overall, time well spent at the museum.

Free to enter and really interesting. Gives you the history of North Carolina. Give yourself at least 2 to 3 hours to get through it. They have some old houses in there too from the past which were really cool. Go before October of this year because they are about to shut down for renovation.

Cool free thing to do while in town. The lady at the help desk was helpful and gave a brochure explaining each level and also how to get tickets to a current special attraction they had going on. Took my dad and my son. There were interactive displays that caught both of their eyes. So much to learn: went on a Monday so it wasn’t a big crowd which I loved cause no rushed feeling. The sports area upstairs was pretty small with a few highlights that my son enjoyed. We all learned a lot which was the goal. On street parking was available close by.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh is a popular attraction offering free admission and a delightful cafe. Visitors of all ages can explore exhibits on the state's geology, flora, and fauna, as well as fossil collections. The museum features 3D films, live-animal programs, and interactive experiences like the 'Investigate Labs' where visitors can embrace their inner scientist.
This museum is a fantastic experience for everyone, especially kids! It offers an engaging and educational environment where children can explore and learn about natural science in a fun and interactive way. From dinosaurs to space, wildlife to gems and minerals, there’s something here to spark curiosity in visitors of all ages. To fully enjoy everything the museum has to offer, plan to spend at least 4 hours. The exhibits are extensive and well-designed, encouraging hands-on learning and exploration. Make sure to check the schedule for the 3D cinema, as showings are held at specific times throughout the day and are definitely worth attending. One of our favorite parts was the live butterfly habitat. it's a magical experience to walk among so many beautiful, free-flying butterflies. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the facility was clean and well-maintained. No ticket is needed. Overall, it's a must-visit destination for families and anyone interested in science and the natural world!

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh is an absolute gem and a must-visit! When we went, they were hosting a special blue whale exhibition, and it was jaw-dropping. Seeing the enormous skeleton up close for the first time was unforgettable—it really gave us perspective on how massive and magnificent these ocean giants are. The museum has plenty more to explore, too. We loved roaming through the dinosaur exhibit, where life-sized displays and fascinating details bring prehistoric times to life. Standing next to those towering models was both humbling and exciting. One of the best parts is that general admission is donation-based, so you can explore the museum at no set cost, making it accessible for everyone. If you’d like to add something extra, they also offer 3D movies at a very reasonable price: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, students, and military with ID, $4 for children, and $3 for members. It’s a fun way to dive deeper into science and nature. Overall, our visit was fascinating, family-friendly, and inspiring. We’ll definitely return to see future exhibits and enjoy more of what this incredible museum has to offer. Cheers! 🥂

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is the best science museum we’ve ever visited! The first thing that impressed me was that the entire main area is free — no tickets are needed to explore all four floors. You only need to buy tickets for special exhibitions or movies. I’ve never seen such a wonderful free science museum before! Out of appreciation, I bought tickets for all three movies and the Blue Whales exhibit for three people — and even with that, it wasn’t expensive at all, just a little over $90. The museum is so diverse and interesting that we spent the whole day there and still didn’t see everything. You definitely need at least two days to explore it fully. There’s a café on the 4th floor that was full of visitors. The menu doesn’t really offer much for healthy eaters, so we skipped it, but it’s a great spot for a quick snack, especially for kids. On the 4th floor there’s also a bridge that connects to another building of the museum — it opens up to a huge laboratory area that was amazing to see. We’re still impressed! The museum has two gift shop areas, but honestly, the museum itself is much more exciting and full of variety than the shops. There are restrooms on every floor, plus escalators and elevators, so it’s accessible for everyone, including people with disabilities.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is an amazing place to visit. There are so many interesting exhibits for both kids and adults, and the best part is that admission is completely free! The museum is clean, well organized, and full of fascinating displays about nature and science. Parking is also free on weekends, which makes it even better. Highly recommend for a family visit or a weekend trip!

What a delightful place to visit! We enjoyed ourselves from the moment we entered, until the time we left. There's lots of floors to visit. You can also walk across the bridge and visit the multiple floors at the other part of the museum! You can easily spend a few hours here, learning so many things!

The Raleigh Science Center is an amazing place for all ages! It’s packed with interactive exhibits that make learning fun and hands on. Right now, they have an incredible Blue Whale exhibit that’s definitely worth seeing. Whether you’re into space, biology, or technology, there’s something exciting to explore. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help or answer questions. I especially loved the planetarium shows truly out of this world! Highly recommend visitors to Raleigh to stop by and boost their experience while you’re in town. Perfect for family trips or a fun day out with friends!

I really enjoyed my visit to this museum. The place is huge and super clean, which made walking around really nice. The staff were all friendly and professional, and there was a ton to see and do. One of the highlights for me was the dinosaur areas, they're really well put together, with some awesome skeletons and tons of interesting info for both kids and adults. The pictures are just a little bit of the areas, you've gotta check out all the floors Whether you're into science, history, or just want something fun to explore, this place has something for everyone. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area

The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh is a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists. It boasts a diverse permanent collection spanning 5,000 years, along with captivating traveling exhibits. The museum's outdoor monument park and amphitheater offer a unique experience, featuring fan-favorite installations like the sci-fi rings, mirror labyrinth, Hobbit house, musical swings, and statues.
We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the museum and the artworks it exhibit. It was one of the best art museums in world, I’d reckon. It is well lit with a good combination of natural light and artificial light. There is enough space for visitors to see the artwork properly without disturbing each other or coming in each other‘s way. The artwork itself is good blend modern and traditional art. The exhibits are done with different mediums, which I really loved. There is tonnes of greenery and nature to enjoy art. There cafeteria was also great. There were things for kids to do. I would easily come to this museum with a picnic basket and spend my day here. Can’t believe this museum is free.

The North Carolina Museum of Art is an outstanding cultural destination that blends art, nature, and community. The permanent collection is beautifully curated, offering a wide range of works from European classics and African art to modern and contemporary pieces. Each gallery is spacious, thoughtfully arranged, and enhanced with natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors. The museum park is equally impressive, with miles of walking and biking trails accented by large-scale outdoor sculptures. It provides a unique opportunity to enjoy art in a natural setting, making the museum experience extend beyond the building itself. Staff and volunteers are consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming, which adds to the overall positive experience. Another highlight is that admission to the permanent collection is free, making the museum highly accessible to the public while still offering high-quality exhibitions and events. Overall, the North Carolina Museum of Art sets a high standard for museums in the region. It is a place where art and community intersect in a meaningful way, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting or living in North Carolina.

This is a beautiful art museum! And it’s free. Except for some special exhibits. But the large portion of it is free. And stunning. The building itself is beautiful and they have some wonderful pieces. I was not expecting for this place to be so big. I will be back.

Absolutely love the NC Museum of Art! The galleries are stunning, the curation is top-notch, and the mix of classic and modern art keeps every visit exciting. The outdoor sculpture park is HUGE and feels like stepping into an open-air art adventure especially with cool installations like the Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky, which feels almost magical when the live sky appears inside. The café is pricey but delicious. Can’t believe admission to the main collection is free because the experience feels world-class. If you’re in Raleigh, this place is a must-visit. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could!

This is an amazing museum and we didn’t get to explore all of it because of how huge it is. We love art so we spent about 3 hours walking around learning & looking at African American art, European art, WWII art, Christian art, and many more other powerful artistic pieces with a historical background. The museum is absolutely free to explore which is great but no food and drinks inside the place. There’s about 2-3 different buildings to go into.

The free night event was wonderful. Plenty of exhibits . A variety of mediums. A quiet ,clean friendly atmosphere and plenty of on-site parking. The special exhibit...The book of Esther was informative and well put together. The African American exhibit was full of color and very eye-catching. The various mediums (wood, wire, paper, metal)will keep a person intrigued. There are benches throughout for time to reflect or just rest. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There is a gift shop with a variety of items for sell such as books, jewelry, artwork and trinkets. There is also a dress up photo opportunity near the book of Esther exhibit.

Metro Richmond Zoo

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
A white rhino is among the 150 species at this 70-acre zoo, with giraffe petting & a meerkat house.
We had a great time at the Metro Richmond Zoo! We went on a weekday, and it was the perfect choice—not crowded at all, which made it easy to take our time and really enjoy everything. The park itself is clean, green, and beautifully laid out. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making it welcoming for both guests and animals. One of the highlights was definitely feeding the giraffe—such an unforgettable experience! The kids (and honestly, the adults too) absolutely loved it. We also really enjoyed watching the Labrador and cheetah playing together—it’s such a unique and unexpected pairing, and they were clearly having a blast. Some of the viewing glass was hard to see through, which made it tricky to get a good look at certain animals, but that was a minor issue overall. Most exhibits had good visibility, and the variety of animals was impressive. This is a zoo we’ll absolutely be coming back to. It’s a fun and peaceful place to spend the day, and you can really feel the care they put into the animals and the overall environment.

Had the most amazing time at the zoo and our added on Hippo experience. McKenna, the woman who lead our experience, was super knowledgeable, fun and kind. She has so many fun facts and was great addition to the experience of seeing and feeding Iris and Poppy. I highly recommend the zoo and the extra experiences. The other animals all were in exhibits that were closer than I was used to which was cool. They’re in the process of building expansions and larger/newer enclosures too so I’ll definitely be back to see that in the future. Thank you again McKenna for such an amazing experience and so much fun in the rain. And for the amazing photos you took of us so we could always remember this adventure!
Catherine M — Google review
I had the absolute BEST time at the Richmond Metro Zoo! I went on a Friday in the fall and it was perfect—not crowded at all, which made the whole experience so pleasant. I’ve been to a lot of zoos over the years, but this one truly stands out as my favorite. The variety of animals is incredible, with species from Asia, South America, and Africa. My favorite part was feeding the giraffes—what a special, unforgettable opportunity! The sky lift ride was another highlight, gliding right over zebras and rhinos. And feeding the birds? An absolute riot—I couldn’t stop laughing! Seeing a skunk, komodo dragon, tarantulas, Cappies and cheetahs was amazing! The animals were so unique (so many amazing monkeys!) and clearly well cared for, and the staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Honestly, I had so much fun I didn’t want to leave. If you’re looking for a zoo experience that’s both exciting and memorable, Richmond Metro Zoo is the place to go. Highly recommend!
Frances D — Google review
I went in with low expectations because of Tripadvisor/ reddit reviews but this zoo actually ended up being pretty good. We went on a weekday and it wasnt crowded. Some of the exhibits could be a bit bigger/better, especially for the small primates but many other exhibits were the same size/enrichment Ive seen at multiple AZA zoos. They had multiple babies, which was fun. Over half of the small primate enclosures had a baby. The 6 cheetah cubs were adorable, though a bit hard to see due to distance. The dog/cheetah combined enclosure was something new and i learned that dogs are routinely used as emotional support for cheetahs in zoos. The budgie area was super fun and we went in around 2pm after multiple people already had been. Feeding the giraffes was super fun too. The actual concession stand wasnt crazy overpriced, compared to other zoos Ive been too. My son also really liked the playground next to the food concessions by the petting zoo. It was a bit out of the way for me as we live in Newport News, but we'll likely come back once a year.
Corgis K — Google review
My friends and I did the Poppy experience and it was SO WORTH IT. McKenna was super knowledgeable, answered all our questions, and gave us a wonderful experience. Poppy and Iris were out and hungry. It was so much fun to get up close and personal with them. We walked around the rest of the zoo after leaving Hippo Haven and it was such a good time. The zoo has plenty of exhibits and activities for little kiddos to do. I recommend buying tickets in advance since the ticket line looked long when we got there and we were able to breeze through with on-line tickets. This zoo is super fun to go to and the keepers and staff are super friendly. I highly recommend the Metro Richmond Zoo.

We had an amazing time at the Galapagos tortoise experience. McKenzie provided lots of interesting facts and the tortoises were surprisingly friendly and expressive. Always love feeding the giraffes and visiting with the budgies! The new exhibit areas looked wonderful. My son and I had a great afternoon!

I took my Best Friend to feed and visit with Poppy and Iris! It was nice perfect. The guide was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We got to be up close to the adorable Pygmy Hippos in a safe way for both us ans them. They were so sweet! It was super easy to sign up for. 10/10 would recommend!
Michelle B — Google review
I really liked going there and I came away with more knowledge than I had. The animals on exhibit all appeared healthy and well kept. Workers were cleaning and tending habitats behind the scenes all over the place. I really liked how close you could be to some of the animals and even feed them. Hopefully the cheetahs can go to other facilities when they're old enough and help repopulate the species. That is the goal of conservation and zoological parks after all. Parking was ample, entry was really easy, it was a beautiful day so I expected it to be more crowded but it was not. I would give this facility 5 star, but I really think they need to update their signage because much was sun faded and some banners tattered. It's the details that people notice when you're taking care of animals. It would be a better impression.

Battlefields
I visited Malvern Hill battlefield with my girlfriend 30 years ago. I returned a couple of weeks ago being from New York and it’s kind of out of the way. It’s a beautiful battlefield if there’s such a term and it gives you kind of a perspective of what it must’ve been like to be there on that fateful day in 1862. I mean there’s not much there but there’s some decent hiking trails. If you’re looking for a Gettysburg atmosphere you won’t find it there being it was just a small battle during the seven days campaign, but if you want to do all the battlefields in the area and it’s quite a few, maybe spend a couple of hours at each one and then move on to the next one that’s what I did.Be careful of ticks they’re everywhere so stay on the trails.

Hiking Trail Review Malvern Hill Battlefield - 3 Miles Trailhead is easy to find and there is a small parking lot at the start. There is also a bathroom located at the beginning. The first part of the trail is mostly through the woods but as you come up on the last quarter of the hike you start the historical parts. This area is laden with signs and artillery. Breathtaking views and rich history to be found all around.

Preserved well I might say. No litter, trash was well kept. Informational wooden kiosk was clean and has a lot of information. Parking is appropriate. Beautiful lawncare and trees.

Part of the Richmond National Battlefield Park, Malvern Hill is one of the best preserved battlefields in the Richmond area. It has a two mile walking trail with two parking lots. There was not a lot of people on the trail and we enjoyed visiting the area. While not listed as part of the other parts of the park there is also a National cemeteries nearby Fort Harrison.

A lovely visit on the weekend of the winter solstice. A brisk walk with good friends to keep me company. We did both the white & blue trails, about 4 miles overall. Some through fields & some through some pretty dense woods. Saw evidence of owls hunting, as well as deer tracks. Definitely recommend as the trails weren’t too busy. For relic hunters, metal detectors aren’t allowed.

Great place to take in history and a nice hike. This battlefield is the perfect example of how good ground can win battles.

1.5 mi walking trail, plenty of history to read about on all the display, grab a trail map at either of the 2 parking areas 1st parking area has a decent amount of parking plus 2 rv or bus parking spots, the 2nd parking area has a few car spots and only 1 rv/bus parking, both say no overnight parking

Maymont, located in Richmond, Virginia, is a 19th-century estate that offers tours of its Gilded Age mansion, gardens, and wildlife center. Originally a private estate, it was generously donated to the city of Richmond and now spans over 100 acres. Visitors can start their tour at the Robins Nature & Visitor Center to see various fish, reptiles, and mammals from the James River and Chesapeake Bay.

It was really nice, quiet garden to walk, hang out place. You can picnic or just lay down and take nap! I went here with my husband. We walk to the down to see Japanese garden and Italian garden. We saw a lot of squirrels and deers. It was amazing. I love nature and i like the way they take care of this place except bamboos. Please, take good care of those bamboos! Bamboos symbolize very good fortune. The park/garden was not dog friendly unfortunately. That is why I gave only 3 stars just because bamboos (one of my favorite plant) and I couldn’t bring my well behave dog. I would still recommend this place, family friendly, stuff were friendly. It is also nice date idea. It is a romantic place. Oh, there is a parking lot.

Free, lots of free parking. The mansion is closed under renovation/construction but still had a great time walking around the Japanese and Italian garden. Didn't manage to walk the entire park butvwhat we did was beautiful. Went end of October and still had lots of beautiful colorful flowers. I recommend taking water and snacks.

I’ve been to this place during the day with my kids, and it is absolutely fantastic. It has a huge green meadow, beautiful Japanese gardens, and plenty of deer to watch. Everything is incredibly scenic and peaceful — a perfect way to spend time with kids and family. They also have a great play area, some cool animals, and lots of photogenic spots. I definitely recommend visiting! During the fall, they host a “Glow Night,” which was really awesome and such a fun experience.

Maymont is a beautiful Park located in Richmond. They have beautiful gardens to walk in. They have lots of animals to pet and feed. The fee is free to get in. They have the garden Glow going on right now. It takes about 90 minutes to walk through the whole thing. We love maymont and we come here about once a month. You can never appreciate the beauty of it enough.

We only went for the Garden Glow experience and arrived pretty late in the night. It was a bit chilly around halloween, but we bundled up and had a great time. The Japanese Garden is a must see experience, I wish we had more time here. We did the hike and unless you have limitations with walking I would suggest it over taking the tram. Overall, it was a great experience and worth the money we spent on it.

Maymont is a must see Richmond landmark and shouldn't be missed. It has beautiful and unique formal gardens, an animal farm, a historic home, a nature center and so much more. Years ago I attended a wedding at the Italian Gardens and it was a beautiful ceremony. The Italian Gardens are right behind the historic mansion. In front of the mansion is a grouping of the most amazing trees that my children loved having a picnic under. Maymont has benches set up under these trees. The fact that admission is free to all of the grounds and the farm area is amazing and quite the gift to Richmond. I hope people appreciate how unique and special this is. Highly recommend this special gem of a place.

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Hollywood Cemetery, known as one of America's premier garden cemeteries, is a picturesque resting place for many historic figures. Established in 1847, it was designed in the pastoral style to resemble a pleasant park rather than traditional graveyards. The cemetery offers dramatic scenic overlooks of the city skyline and the James River rapids. It is the final resting place for notable figures such as presidents James Monroe and John Tyler.
This is one of the most beautiful and historical cemeteries in the country. It is a great place to visit and reflect upon our short time here on this earth. People today do not talk or even think about death and their own mortality. A person has a much better perspective on life if they do. I would highly recommend visiting this special cemetery and appreciate the beautiful mausoleums and tombstones throughout the hillside.
Jenny B — Google review
This beautiful cemetery offers ample parking, with additional street parking available nearby. Enter through the cemetery gates, go down the hill, and the parking lot is to the right. The best view of the park can be found near Monroe’s mausoleum. The cherry blossoms here are stunning. The park is quiet, peaceful, and perfect for walking.

Peaceful walk… Hollywood Cemetery is a nice spot to walk. The cemetery is big and hilly, offering great views of the James River, downtown Richmond, and a calm environment for exploring its historic grounds. There are different sections to admire the monuments and gravestones, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Beautiful cemetery that has many historical figures and interesting items to see. It was peaceful and quiet. You can easily drive through and follow the blue line on the road as a self guided tour. There are parking areas on the drive or just pull off to road side if you see something interesting. The overview of the river Beautiful.

Absolutely breathtaking. Very peaceful to walk through and spend time admiring centuries of craftsmanship, masonry, and ancestry. Sits overlooking the James River rapids with beautiful trees across the property and the city skyline in the periphery. Lucked out and had 3 whitetail deer stroll alongside me plus a tattered Monarch land on the mausoleum of President Monroe. A beautifully preserved venue that is both humbling and unexpectedly inspiring. I’d consider this a must-see in the Richmond area! There is a lot to explore if you want to walk. Quite a few graded hills so wear comfortable clothes and bring water, a light snack.

This place is rich in history and beauty. An active cemetery and resting place of Soldiers, two presidents, and many loved ones with a few well knowns sprinkled throughout. Overlooks the James River,

Beautiful historic cemetery! The rolling terrain and narrow roadways presented a bit of a challenge, but it's worth it. The views of downtown Richmond and the James River are amazing. And we were able to pay respects to three presidents: Tyler, Monroe, and Davis. In a bit of historical irony, Jefferson Davis's statue faces the Grant family plot!

My husband does Way mlMarking which is an activity which is kind of tied into geocaching. It's locating interesting places. Cemeteries have lots of interesting historical places to waymark. So I've seen a lot of cemeteries. This is one of the top three cemeteries I've ever been to. It is absolutely beautiful. There are so many old trees and interesting structures and memorials. I love the fact there's no plastic flowers or decorations. We met the gentleman who gives the chores and spent time sharing the history of the cemetery with my husband and it really made the visit all that more interesting. We'll be going back soon and next time we plan on taking the tour. It's well worth the visit, even if you're not sure you're into cemeteries. It's just a beautiful place.

What a beautiful museum! Everyone in our group loved it. The collections are thoughtfully curated, with a great mix of religious, cultural, and ethnic art. So many of the pieces have detailed background info that really adds depth to the experience — you walk away feeling inspired. The space is super clean and well-maintained. No clutter anywhere, and even the restrooms were spotless and smelled fresh (which isn’t always a given — so bonus points for that!). It was honestly a fantastic visit from start to finish. I’d absolutely come back again, and if anyone ever asks me what to check out in this area, this museum will be at the top of my list.

If you live near Washington, D.C. and have already explored all the Smithsonian museums, and you're looking to venture a bit farther, this place is worth the trip. It’s not huge, but it offers a thoughtfully curated collection — and best of all, it’s open year-round and completely free. The surrounding scenery is also beautiful, making it a perfect getaway for those who want a peaceful break from the everyday hustle. The current Frida Kahlo exhibition didn’t quite meet my expectations, as it features more writing than artwork, but it’s still worth a visit. This is a museum where you can enjoy the playfulness of surrealism and discover the hidden modernity within ancient art.

There are a lot of great works of art! More Egyptian items than I have seen other places. That was very neat to see. The Faberge eggs were very interesting. I really enjoyed the section with the black walls and the lighting on the paintings. That really made them pop! We also enjoyed the giant paintings!

She helped provide all the critical info up front, answered all our questions through the process, provided guidance, vendor suggestions (DJ was amazing), helped coordinate details for some of the other vendors, and overall was a calming presence that put us at ease. The wedding logistics were executed flawlessly, and it was such a nice feeling to be able to have full confidence in Beth and the staff, and truly be able to enjoy the day/evening. The venue itself (Amuse & Claiborne) was perfect, and our guests were raving about it - they enjoyed the different rooms to talk and dance, and enjoyed the patios. The food was incredible (especially the mac and cheese!), we loved having so many options as a part of the station dinner, and guests really liked having the food out all evening. The bar never had a line, everything was efficient, and guest enjoyed the selection. Most importantly, we and our guests noticed and appreciated how every staff member we interacted with was so nice, helpful, and were just a positive addition to our evening. Lastly, we loved all the different outdoor options for pictures, including a private first look in the front of the building. The grounds are so beautiful! Thank you to Beth and the entire VMFA staff for everything they did to make our wedding weekend perfect, smooth, and SO much fun - we are so grateful! We could not have picked a more perfect wedding venue! Note: Photo credit Michael & Laura Photography

I visited the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and absolutely loved it! The Frida Kahlo exhibition was incredible, so inspiring and beautifully curated. The museum itself is spacious and elegant, with a great atmosphere for art lovers. I really enjoyed spending time there, and I’d love to go back to explore more of their collections!

Beautifully curated art spanning every era — from contemporary pieces to works thousands of years old. One of the most impressive art museums I’ve ever experienced, with such depth and volume that you’ll find yourself returning again and again.

This museum is both active and peaceful between the inside and the outside. It's a go-to for me. This is fantastic place with an incredible collection, whether you're into art or you're just checking it out for the first time.

My son and I went today. It was an incredible experience in no small part because of the wonderful people who work there. I am bad at jotting names down to remember them for reviews but.. the lady on the first floor from Texas was kind and directed us to some amazing art. The gentileman on the second floor with the nice mustache was helpful. And Mary in the cafe showed us compassion and gentilness in a very embarassing moment. Thank you VMFA y'all rock and your space is amazing. All the love from your new Texas friends we're already plotting our next visit!

Museums
The White House of the Confederacy, built in 1818, served as the executive residence of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his family from 1861 to 1865. Restored to its wartime appearance, the house is now furnished with period furniture and offers guided tours showcasing its historical significance. Visitors can explore interpretive exhibits that provide insight into the tumultuous Civil War era while admiring the elegant Rococo-Revival furniture and experiencing the ambiance of social gatherings hosted by Varina Davis.
Cool and neat o tour. Some stuff is still original mirrors and some wall figurines. The dining room story is heartbreaking. For aferican Americans it's not what you think it is. I overheard some in an elevator and they were bashing it but they had so much history of each slave and who spied and who escaped to Hampton roads. Take the tour it is interesting.

This was literally the worst stop on our entire trip in 2025, and we went to 50 different locations during our vacation. First off, parking was horrid! It did state on the website that you can park in the parking deck of the hospital. Once we found the entrance to the parking garage, we then had to walk down two blocks to the museum. Fortunately, we walked around the back to find where you go in to buy a ticket. We were told the first tour was canceled and we had to wait an hour for the next one. At that time, there were two people at the counter (please remember this detail). The staff at the counter informed us that we could walk a few blocks to visit the capital if we wanted, and then return for the tour. We chose to just wait around since my wife is still recovering from her chemo treatments, I am not in the greatest of health, and it was almost 95 degrees outside, and we just drove in from Williamsburg and didn't even check into our hotel yet. We were not sure if we could keep up the pace walking and be back in time for the next tour. We paid for the tour and walked around the grounds a little bit, taking some B-roll video and pictures, and just sat in the courtyard waiting for the tour. At first we were the only ones there. As it got closer to tour time, more and more people showed up. When the tour started, there were literally 21 people on our tour, and the tour guide (one of the people that was hanging at the counter, by the way) said they normally limit the tours to 15-18 people. Needless to say, we were cramped. As the tour went on, the guide was mostly focused on people not touching anything, staying on the carpets, and not leaning on the wally. It was so cramped we could hardly see anything or even hear the guide. It was a truly dreadful experience. We were there once; that was enough. Oh... we did obtain a stamped paper from the museum to use as parking validation. I presented it to the attendant at the parking garage, and he basically yelled at us and said we were supposed to go into the hospital to take care of the parking cost. Nice of the museum to mention that little bit of information, as I am sure that happens to everyone. We had a much better time walking around the old Hollywood Cemetery.

I was concerned they would be sympathetic to the Confederates, but I found the tour pretty straightforward. No Confederate flags or anything. I particularly enjoyed hearing about the slaves who escaped and sold out the Davises. I understand some won't feel comfortable here, but ultimately, they lost. So why not learn some more about why the U.S. is the way it is? (Or gloat, which is also fair.)

The place where Jefferson Davis, the only president of the confederation dwelt during the war of secession. The guide was excellent. And we could have a more intimate understanding of the life of the leader of the confederation.

An excellent tour that opened a window onto Jefferson Davis’s life. A great tour by Rob, who has deep knowledge of the period, and made the house come alive.

Omg this place is amazing! The site is ofcourse wondrous, but ANDY is such a pro. She was SUPER funny, but very professional, knowledgeable, accommodating. Dont come to Richmond without stopping in!

Great tour. Costs $15, $12 for students. The tour itself is about half an hour to 45 minutes, and the tours leave every 45 minutes. The building itself is pretty small.

Had a really fun time at this small museum. My husband and I wanted to kill some time in Richmond and came upon this & we were blown away. The museum is smack dab in downtown in between the hospitals. We parked at the hospital parking lot and it was a quick 3 minute walk. Andy was a delightful tour guide and she was very well versed on all things President Jefferson Davis. This tour took around an hour and I definitely recommend it.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a year-round destination featuring over 50 acres of themed gardens, dining options, and a classical domed conservatory. The garden offers a variety of attractions including a cherry tree walk, rose garden, children's area, and educational programs for all levels of gardening enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy events such as the Virginia Daffodil Society Show, spring and fall plant sales, and a holiday light spectacular in December.
This was a great place!! So much to see, I will definitely be going back!!! Bring water, the vending machine had a hard time taking cards, which is all they took!!! They were on the opposite side of the park!! The walk ways are very easy to walk on, very well maintained.

The gardens are beautiful. I was very impressed by the size of the gardens as well as how well everything was labeled. There were also interesting art pieces displayed throughout. While I do not have children, there were lots of play areas and even a little water sections that would be perfect for children. Be prepared to walk a lot as there is a lot gardens to see. My only complaint would be that the butterfly conservatory was completely closed but it was the same price. I feel like that is a bug part of the experience so if it is not opened, they should adjust the admission price.

This is a “must do” when you’re in the area! We decided to visit this botanical garden while in town for the day! We did come at the end of the growing season (October) but it was still beautiful and we hope to come back in the spring or summer to see this garden in its glory! It is truly a relaxing place and when the renovations are finished next year it’ll be perfect!

What a gem! Had the lovely opportunity to visit the gardens and discover they were hosting a concert the next day — so fun! Incredible section for children and families. Pond is a great spot for taking some Time to see what’s swimming around. Quite a bit of construction at the moment, which didn’t interfere with the enjoyment of the gardens.

We had our Elopement Ceremony at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on 5/5/25, and it was truly amazing! The entire setting was like a dream. The gardens were bursting with vibrant flowers in full bloom, creating the most beautiful and romantic backdrop for our vows. Everywhere we turned, there were gorgeous spots perfect for photos, which made capturing our special day so easy and memorable. The staff at Lewis Ginter were incredibly helpful, kind, and professional from start to finish. They answered all our questions promptly, helped us plan the details of our ceremony, and made sure everything went smoothly on the big day. We felt so well taken care of, and it allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the moment. I absolutely loved having our wedding here and can’t recommend this venue enough to anyone looking for a stunning, peaceful, and unforgettable place to say “I do.” Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden made our elopement everything we dreamed it would be!

August 2025 Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is beautifully maintained, with a nice variety of flowers, plants, and walking paths. It’s a relaxing place to spend an hour or two, and there are plenty of benches and shaded spots to just sit and take in the scenery. The themed gardens and water features add a nice touch, and everything feels thoughtfully designed. KID FRIENDLY! The Children’s Garden is a hit — with a splash area, play spaces, and sand box. It’s a great stop if you’re in the Richmond area and want to enjoy some fresh air and nature.

The botanical garden in Richmond is a must-visit! It’s incredibly spacious—you can easily spend several hours exploring. There’s a beautiful variety of plants, including lots of dragonflies fluttering around and a stunning collection of roses. The grounds are peaceful and well-maintained, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. They also have a large café and a great gift shop with plenty of unique items. If you're visiting Richmond, this is definitely one of the top attractions to check out!

The National Museum of the Marine Corps, located near the U.S. Marine Corps Base at Quantico, offers a captivating journey through the history, values, and culture of this esteemed military branch. Spanning 135 acres, the museum features interactive technology, multimedia exhibits, and an extensive collection of artifacts that bring to life the story of the Marines. The 118,000-square-foot complex boasts a striking glassy atrium and outdoor memorials.
Amazing display and tribute to military history. Two locations inside to eat lunch and a well stocked gift shop that offers a large variety of memorabilia. Definitely allow several hours to tour the facility. Staff is very nice and extremely helpful.

A fantastic museum, organized chronologically through major conflicts. The exhibits feature everything from small arms to armored vehicles and aircraft, with vivid dioramas depicting Marines in action. The layout is well thought out and honors the service members who sacrificed their lives in each conflict. Knowledgeable volunteers are present in each area to provide detailed explanations. Truly enjoyed the visit.

This was a fantastic museum. We were told it would take about 1.5 hrs but we took 3 hrs & we still missed things. As we walked in we were talking to a guy who was a volunteer there so he ended up walking with us & giving us lots of information. We had an amazing visit.

This has been one of the most impressive museums I've ever seen. The interior design, the organization of the exhibits, and the architecture of the building itself are simply marvelous. From the moment you enter, the staff is incredibly friendly, and in each area, there are well-trained personnel who explain things or answer any questions you may have. I spent two hours exploring the exhibits and left completely amazed. I have to go back with family and friends to experience it again.

The Marine Corps Museum is beyond awesome! AND IT'S FREE...if it is not THE best museum that I've ever been to, it's at least tied. It feels like you are almost in a theme park. I strongly suggest planning to spend hours there...I wish we had planned on two half days because there is so much there that it is simply overwhelming. I highly recommend that all go that have a chance -- and whoever gave this less than 5 Stars is...

As a Marine, visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps was nothing short of incredible. The moment you walk in, the design of the building and the atmosphere make it clear that this is more than just a museum—it’s a tribute to our history, our sacrifices, and our brotherhood. The exhibits bring Marine Corps history to life in a way that words alone can’t capture. From the Revolutionary War to the modern-day fight, each gallery is immersive, detailed, and respectful of the Marines who served in those eras. The attention to detail in the uniforms, weapons, and recreated environments made me feel like I was stepping back in time. What stood out most to me was how the museum honors every generation of Marines. It’s not just facts on a wall—it’s stories, images, and artifacts that remind you of the legacy you’re part of. Walking through, I felt a deep sense of pride, respect, and connection to those who came before me. If you’re a Marine, a veteran, or someone who simply wants to understand the heart of the Corps, this is a must-visit. It’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave. Semper Fidelis.

Awesome winery that we just happened to stop at while In the area. We had two flights and I can honestly say that I enjoyed all 6 wines that were tried. The setting is very neat and a little snap shot of what you might see from a vineyard in Greece. If in the area it's definitely worth the trip. Service was great. Only negative thing that could be said are the wine bottles are pretty pricey with most being $35-$100. That said though it's still one of the best vineyards I think I have been to
Brandon F — Google review
A beautiful winery right outside of Warrenton. The wine is very tasty, especially the ports. And I don't usually like sweet wine! I had the Winemakers Favorite Reds flight. The wines were very good. As I am vegan, the only food choice was bread with herbed olive oil. The olive oil was delicious. Bring your dog! Leashed dogs are welcome on the patio. They will come take your order outside if you ask! Highly recommend!

Absolutely beautiful place. The staff were incredible and offered a wealth of information and knowledge of the wines. They gave us the back story of the owners and the history of this awesome winery. I chose the Favorite Red Flight which every wine was amazing. My favorite was the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon which I had to get a bottle to take home. This place is beautiful and would recommend to anyone looking for their next favorite winery.

Amazing, clean wine. The staff was amazing, and the view was spectacular. 10/10 recommend for anyone who appreciates traditional European wines. The prices seem high, but once you learn about the process used to age and bottle the wines, you will understand the love and care poured into this business.

Winery and vineyard with an interesting take on standard varietals; chardonnay in the off dry, Moscato in dry, etc. Nice tastings available as are by the glass and bottles. Plenty of outdoor seating. Less child friendly than some other local places. Think Greece when visiting.

Wow! What a nice experience. 7 of us got there a half hour before closing. We were quickly seated at a table, which was a pleasant change from other wineries. Everything was laid out nicely; napkin, wine glass, wine rating menu and the best imported greek cheese that I had ever tasted along with crackers. The hostess, Lea, was excellent in every way. Her clear and flowing style in her presentation of the wines and knowledge of them added to the enjoyment of the tasting. Her sense of humour also added to the delight of all of us. The tasting area is small, as well as the table area. But quaint and comfortable. The various wines tasted were excellent. A perfect example of fine Greek wine. We were also graced to taste their exceptional Pinot Noir and the recent uncorking of their Red Dessert Wine "Porto". All in all a perfect way to enjoy an afternoon.

Was so beautiful. Friendly staff and great service. 10/10 over all! Goerganne/a, served us and gave us input, ideas, and informed us about eat wine, suggested different ones based on out preference, which we ended up buy bottles of her recommended wines as they were amazing. And the tastings we did have were good too. The tastings are priced great for how much wine you get. Their snacks pair well with the wines. 10/10 experience 10/10 service 10/10 venue and appearance 10/10 cleanliness and precautions. Definitely recommend coming here for an afternoon to relax in enjoy the scenery and taste wine that is made different than anything else you've probably locally tasted. Their take on wine gives you a new insight on flavors and notes and gives you presceptive on local craftsmanship. Will definitely return to buy more wine from here.

This park is absolutely gorgeous. The roads are so smooth and the forest looks so beautiful as you drive through. The trails are well maintained and I've always had a nice experience. I find the coolest stuff when hiking here! I can't wait to try the campground next!

A perfect national park site for those living in the DMV area and beyond to visit for a hike, bike ride, or a ranger program. The rangers are welcoming and friendly. They can help you select various trail combinations to get in the length for a run or hike. There is also two campgrounds in the park. One for family or individual camping and one for group camping. Both offer a chance for a quiet escape from the city. This is also a great park for those new to hiking or camping to get experience before going to a more remote area.

Perfect spot for a hike with my dogs! There are so many interconnecting trails that you could do miles and miles if you wanted. The dogs and I did Quantico Cascades. It was beautiful, and the leaves are starting to change.
Jordyn F — Google review
This was our first time here. We like the hiking trails and how quiet it is. The volunteer lady at the Visitor Center was very helpful too. The only issue is getting out of here if you park after lot B. The scenic drive becomes one way which forces you to drive around for a while just to get back to the park entrance. Other than that it's a great national park.

I’ve been wanting to go here for about six years now. The traffic is absolutely terrible on I-95 but it is worth the very slow drive. The trails are excellent and it is a peaceful sanctuary with lots of variety. Thank you all.
Joseph K — Google review
Waze directions are wrong it should be exit 150b off 95 South, and the trails were killer, I fell and slipped and got dirt all over me. Glad today wasn't in the 90s!! My son and I were deep within one trail and got extremely lost (for a good hour and a half!!) due to the bad signage and lack of signage. Regrettable, google maps was also no help, in finding our way out of the confusing trails we were lost within either. And unfortunately the signage that they do have on the trails is really confusing, as it reads 1.1MLS (which I would guess to mean MILES) for one trail going left and 2M which I am assuming means minutes going to the right? You'll see once you get there. And please note for your trip out to this park that Waze took us more than several exits and several miles and minutes out of the way, waze took us to the cabins and RV entrances, when the actual trails and visitors center entrance is quite far away from the cabin and RV entrances. This was a frustrating experience, from the signage to the lack of the correct address being given to major GPS/mapping companies. This state park needs to be revamped in major ways, including the steep hills that are doused in red/orange slick clay, sharp edge rocks. There was quite a few areas that were really slick, especially after morning dew or a rainy night before or morning before your hike. I fell pretty bad, forever staining my clothes and hurting myself in the process on one of the loop trails.
Virginia M — Google review
This national park has been on my list of places to see for two years. Active duty military & their family get free access to this park as well as military veterans and gold star families. They charge $20 for a vehicle (car) to enter this park. Annual park fee is $35 and a better option if you come to the park often and pay for entrance. We were immediately impressed by the scenic drive, low traffic, and visitor center of the park. This is the least crowded national park we ever visited with so many trails to hike & explore. Bicyclists will love the immense bike routes and trails in this park. They engineered the roads with bicycle only paved roads beside the automobile road. Perfect for bicyclists. The visitor center was conveniently located by the Laurel Loop Trail and restroom areas. It was the first place we visited to get information for the park and a stamp for our national park passport book. The rangers were very helpful and showed us locations & trails we might be interested in seeing. We hiked two hours on the easiest trails in the Prince William National Park. We hiked the Laurel Loop Trail, the Birch Buff Trail, the Mary Byrd Branch Trail, the Quantico Falls Trail, and the North Valley Trail. The rugged terrain of some of these trails made it difficult to hike. I actually got holes in the heels of my old boots walking these trails. While we hiked we listened to birds on the trails and identified some birds we never heard before: Golden-crowned Kinglet, other unknown birds - etc. The Lauren Loop Trail had miniature Fairy Homes placed along the trail which was a delight to see. The Quantico Falls Trail was one of the smallest trails and winded down to the Quantico Creek & small waterfalls. We spent the most time in this area sitting on the large flat rocks on the creek watching the falls and the fish in the water. Proper hiking boots and socks are a definite must for these trails even the easiest trails. Prince William’s Park has of the most difficult hikes we encountered despite going on the easiest trails we encountered yet it was one of the most memorable and enjoyable times we had hiking. Looking forward to coming back to this park.

Potomac Mills, previously known as the Washington Outlet Mall, is a sprawling shopping destination located just off -95 in Virginia. With over 200 stores, including famous factory outlets and well-known brands like Nike, Calvin Klein, and H&M, it's a shopaholic's paradise. This mall is a great place to shop! It's large with a wide variety of stores, including many popular brands like Nike, American Eagle, The Children's Place, Under Armor and more. If you're looking for deals or just browsing, you're likely to find something you like. Grab a Starbucks coffee or a meal at one of the restaurants before or after you shop to make it a full outing. It's family-friendly place. There's plenty of parking, so finding a spot is easy. Overall, it's a convenient and enjoyable shopping experience.

While visiting from out of town, we were looking for a mall that had all the stores we needed and this was the one. Clean and big with all the shops we were looking for like Coach, FYE and Showcase. The staff members were all helpful, the mall is easy to navigate and we found everything on our wishlist. The food court has plenty of seating and options and restrooms can be found everywhere. There are also a lot of places to eat and shop just outside the mall like the Cheesecake Factory so it is a one stop shop.

I recently visited Potomac Mills Mall, and it’s easily one of the largest and most impressive malls I’ve explored! During my summer trip, I was blown away by the number or stores in this one place. From general retailers to specialty shops like sports, jewelry, and tech stores. The discounts were unbeatable, making it a shopper’s paradise. Whether I was hunting for deals at outlet stores or browsing high-end brands, there was something for every budget. As someone who avoids stairs, I appreciated the mall’s accessibility. Multiple wheelchair access points and elevators made navigation a breeze. Families will love this place too! I saw kids having a blast in the vibrant children’s play areas, perfect for parents or a cool aunt or uncle looking to entertain little ones. The food court was a highlight, offering a wide range of cuisines, from classic burgers to international dishes, ensuring everyone found something tasty. Potomac Mills truly feels like a one-stop destination. With its diverse stores, family-friendly amenities, and accessible design, it’s a place I’ll return to for both shopping and fun. There’s several sitting areas and the seats are really comfortable (well the ones on the first wing) Im yet to explore the other wings of the mall since its sooooo huuuuuge

Jiffy Lube Live

Live music venue
Concerts & Shows
Outdoor concert amphitheater (formerly Nissan Pavilion) seating 10,000 with 15,000 more on the lawn.
10/10 great experience! Easier to get in and out of than you'd assume, even if you arrive a bit late. The stage and sets were awesome and we were ecstatic to see Yellowcard and A Day to Remember! A few tips: refillable water bottles are allowed but they will make you pour them out before you enter. The bathrooms are close by near the seats, as well as food, drink, and merch vendors. The drinks are expensive but that's usually the case at live shows, so prepare to pay $15-$20 per drink. Highly recommend Jiffy Lube!

I went to see the Jonas Brothers on August 12 and overall had a decent experience. The venue itself is really nice. The seats and bathrooms (at least when I used them) were clean, and I appreciated the number of merch trucks scattered around the area. Cons: I had researched the venue beforehand and knew parking and traffic would be a nightmare. To avoid that, I arrived around 4 to 4:30 pm, parked away from the stadium, and walked in. The walk itself was not too bad, but it was inconvenient since there are no continuous sidewalks leading to Jiffy Lube Live. You end up walking through a mix of road, parking lots, and grass, which is not ideal. My bigger issue was with the concessions. The food is extremely overpriced, and the system they use is inefficient. Each cashier is not only responsible for taking orders but also for running to pick up the food. This meant our line barely moved. Our cashier would take an order, often chicken strips or fries, then leave to stand in a backed-up line at the kitchen waiting for fries. Meanwhile, those of us who just wanted a pretzel, pizza, burger, or even a drink had to wait for her to return before the line could move again. This was happening at every stand, and the wait was so long we almost missed the start of the main act. If they could streamline concessions, add more entrances and exits for parking, and consider a shuttle system to and from the venue, it would make for a much smoother experience.

Great show, first time at the venue, great employees. Everyone was polite and had a great sense of humor. The parking team saw to the safety of so many, and the inside team saw to our every need - including charismatic instruction when organizing the lines. Show was amazing, even in the rain, sitting on the lawn it was magical. We saw Hozier and Gigi, hope they return again, after over 5 hours of driving - it was so worth it. I got to relax in a lawn chair and enjoy the best show I have seen yet, with my daughter. Her first concert ♡ thanks for the joy.

I went to see Suicide Boys at Jiffy Lube Live, and the venue was amazing. It felt like a new and refreshing experience with plenty of food and drink options, plus bathrooms close by so you never had to go far. The sound quality was incredible — you could literally feel the music in your chest. The overall setup made the night smooth and enjoyable. If you’re considering seeing one of your favorite artists here, I would highly recommend Jiffy Lube Live.
Christian J — Google review
Great venue for that let's you enjoy a concert to fit your style. Right up front moshing in the pit. Comfy seats and even tables with great sight lines anywhere you sit, or lounge up in the grass for cheap. Food and drinks are quick and easy to access and even the bathrooms are surprisingly clean. I can't speak for accoustics everywhere and I find that to be very dependent on the bands gear and person running the sound board, but I can confirm it can sound very good for a large open venue.

This is a great venue. This was my first time here and I saw Keith Urban. The venue is clean. Has a lot of food and drink options. But they also allow a limited amount of your own snacks and bottled water from the outside. Tailgating is also allowed. I would definitely suggest this venue.
HEATHER S — Google review
First time ever going to Jiffy Lube after living here for 20+ years. Traffic was HORRIBLE took us over 2 hours to park from the highway. But inside was amazing. The food options were many and delicious while the sheltered seats were comfortable and contributed to the expansiveness
Safiya — Google review
Great venue! We recently drove up from Virginia Beach to see Men at Work, Christopher Cross and Toto. Easy parking and gate access, plenty of food and drink options and friendly staff. The large monitors really helped us to see up close and the acoustics were great. They do have expensive concessions and they're totally cashless. Unfortunately, this is normal for most concert venues these days. That said, they do allow 1 sealed water bottle and light snacks at the gate. That was a fair compromise.

Manassas National Battlefield Park spans 5,000 acres and commemorates the First and Second Battles of Manassas during the Civil War. The Henry Hill Visitor Center features a museum displaying uniforms, weapons, and other artifacts from the era. Visitors can watch an orientation film about the battles or join guided tours led by Park Rangers. The park is known for its historic significance as it was the site of two crucial American Civil War battles in the 18th century.
Beautiful open area with lots of history. Be sure to bring plenty of water if you plan on walking the entire battlefield area. No operational water fountains on site. There is a horse train the runs on the southern side of the field. The trail goes for miles.

We were in the area and wanted to make a quick visit to walk through the battlefield park. The park is very well maintained and stretches out very far. There are several areas with signage and historical information to read about the battlefield. If you’re visiting during the summer months, be sure to bring mosquito spray with you.

What a great place to get exercise, immerse yourself in history, and enjoy nature. There are 2 major trails ranging from 5-6 miles. You can combine them for an entire day walk/hike. They are easy to moderate. There are a few side loops to be able to see more historical structures. There are markers along the way to learn about the significance of each area. It's a history lesson combined with physical activity! I have hiked nearly every inch of this park over the years. This weekend I hiked the First Manassas Trail and the Old Stone Bridge Loop.

Made a quick stop before heading to a concert, definitely will be back. I love history and cant wait to explore more of this area. They have a driving tour and quite a bit of trails to walk through. Beautifully maintained as well.

We came here on a Saturday afternoon, and no ticket is required. The visitor center has a small museum with very nice display of how the battle happened and what happened. It’s meaningful and also beautiful. Would recommend to visit if you happen to be in a nearby area.

A truly moving and educational 5-star experience! The Manassas National Battlefield Park is a phenomenal place to spend the day, and it felt like we were walking right through history. The staff is welcoming and informative, and the visitor center provides an excellent foundation. The highlight of the trip, however, was definitely the guided tour. The park rangers are extremely knowledgeable and bring the area's rich history to life, pointing out iconic spots like the Stone House, the striking statue of "Stonewall" Jackson, and the poignant plaques marking where officers like Brigadier General Bartow fell. Walking past the rows of cannons and along the classic split-rail fences with the wild views was breathtaking. The park has a peaceful atmosphere, but you can feel the incredible history that happened right under your feet. The interpretive signs, like the one about "The Marines Of '61," are also incredibly well-done. Download the NPS app if you want to explore with a self-guided tour—it's a great resource!

Visited during government shutdown. Visitors center and buildings were shuttered. Driving tour of the first battle included 4.5 miles of walking. Park isn't well-maintained and visitors litter / walk past litter. We picked up all we could (but left the dog poop packages). Tragic disregard for history.

Very nice preserved piece of history. There is a lot to see here if it interests you. The inside of the main building has quite a few artifacts and displays. Worth it to check it out if you're in the area.

George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill

Sights & Landmarks
George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill offers a glimpse into the 18th-century businesses established by George Washington. These fully-functioning reconstructions use period methods and materials to grind wheat and corn, just as they were done in Washington's time. Located 2.7 miles from the main entrance of the estate, visitors can tour both buildings seasonally on weekends from April to October.
It's a shame no so many people visiting here. You can see how a water mill is working and a rebuilt distillery for whisky that follows Washington's days method. You can also buy their whisky and cornflour from gift store.

Awesome place to take kids into engineering/Legos. The historical interpreters are amazing. We got to meet the lead distiller. Holly is great with interpreting the mill for kids. I highly recommend visiting for the staff, atmosphere and history.

This place is surprisingly ramshackle for something affiliated with Mount Vernon. It’s also poorly organized, it’s not really clear where or even how you purchase tickets (my party had not been to Mount Vernon earlier in the day, we assumed we could buy tickets for the distillery AT the distillery). As others have noted, there’s no tasting component, I literally saw an entire bachelor party be turned away because of that. The only options were to buy things at the small, somewhat cramped gift shop or to take the tour, which we waited a long time for before deciding to bail. Thought this would be a fun excursion, walked away disappointed.
Will M — Google review
Surprisingly new museum and restored (and replicated) attractions! Brief tours are enhanced by asking lots of Qs to dig deeper. Interesting to note current dilemma of "active commercial distillery" vs "museum". Very, very high price for the product!
John H — Google review
Knowing that I was coming to Washington D.C. I looked up distilleries. The George Washington Distillery came up. I knew that Washington made whiskey, and then there actually was a distillery. It was a must go for me. The history tour of the mill and what had him start to make his whiskey was very informative. The people who put their hearts and soul to to keep his history alive need to be commanded. I took part in the whiskey tasting. A must for those who are whiskey drinkers. I the chance to meet the master distiller. It's a must go.
Matthew J — Google review
Since our Mount Vernon tickets included entrance to the mill and distillery (3 miles from Mount Vernon; you can drive on your own or take the Mount Vernon courtesy shuttle), we drove over to the distillery arriving at 4:45. The mill tour guide said they would give the last tour right up until 5:00pm. Our tour started at 4:55 and only lasted 10 min, but we got to see the mill in operation and had a good explanation of its history and how it operates. The guide said they only give demonstrations on weekends. We walked as a group to the distillery and the guide was waiting for us even though it was after 5pm (5:07). He gave us a great description of the distilling process and the history of the distillery.

An interesting place to visit especially if you are into history. They have whiskey available for purchase. Most folks miss the mill when visiting Mt Vernon. Don't. This is worth the time.

If you are visiting Mount Vernon this is a definite must to visit. It is included in the price of admission to Mount Vernon, you just hop on their complementary bus that takes you straight there. The people there are friendly and knowledgeable about their Mill and about the products that they produce. It is rebuilt in the style that George Washington built it in and it is a working mill now. There is also a small shop that carries all kinds of goodies if you would like something. I would highly recommend spending an hour or so of your time at Mount Vernon by stopping by here and seeing the Mill and little museum they have.

George Washington's Mount Vernon

George Washington's Mount Vernon is a popular historic site that was the cherished residence of George and Martha Washington. Visitors can take guided tours of the furnished main house to gain insight into the couple's daily life, while self-guided tours of the estate's outbuildings and gardens offer interactive experiences with actors portraying 18th-century plantation life. The estate also features an educational film about George Washington's life, from his early military service to the American Revolution.
Mount Vernon is an absolutely beautiful and historic site. The grounds are incredibly well-maintained, with lush greenery, scenic views, and several peaceful hiking trails that make it easy to spend hours exploring. It’s a must-visit for history lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. Unfortunately, much of the main house was closed due to major renovations during our visit, which was a bit disappointing. We were really hoping to see more of the interior. That said, we understand the importance of preservation and look forward to coming back when the house is fully reopened. One serious concern was the strict enforcement of the “only bottled water allowed” rule on the property. It was an extremely hot day, and after buying a drink from their overpriced and underwhelming cafeteria, we were told we couldn’t bring it past a certain point. In those conditions, limiting access to hydration—especially when options are so expensive—felt not just inconvenient, but borderline unsafe. On a brighter note, the gift shop was much nicer than expected, with a wide range of quality souvenirs, books, and unique items. We visited on a weekday, so the crowds were minimal and the overall experience was peaceful. Despite a few drawbacks, this is still a place worth seeing, and we’ll definitely be back—hopefully on a cooler day and with better access to drinks.

Mount Vernon earned its name due to its association with United States President George Washington. He lived in various times at this estate. It is basically an agriculture estate on a raised bank of Potomac River. The estate has a nice two storied building where George Washington lived with his family members. There is vast green all around. The property also has the tomb of George Washington. It can be a nice weekend tour. The facility has a museum to exhibit George Washington's stuffs like furniture, crockery, wardrobe etc. The museum and all other facilities are well designed, well maintained, and masterly curated. There are volunteers everywhere. There are guides, narrators, audio visual shows. There are adequate facilities for people with special needs. One needs to walk 2-3 miles at least to see all the exhibits.

My visit to Mount Vernon was truly inspiring 🇺🇸 I loved every part of it — the insightful exhibitions, the beautifully preserved estate, and especially the passionate guides who brought George Washington’s story to life. Walking through the house and gardens felt like stepping back in time. The attention to detail and the way history is shared here make it one of the most memorable visits I’ve had in the U.S. A place full of meaning, learning, and respect for the past. Highly recommended!

First and foremost I would like to thank the staff at the lost and found, someone recovered my necklace and returned it to lost and found and the staff here did everything they could after my girlfriend contacted them via email to ship the item back to me in a quick and timely matter and I really appreciate the staff here for that. Now this was an extremely amazing experience to see George Washington’s home and farm and to learn about his family and life and the slaves that he had working on the farm and seeing his tomb and seeing how beautiful his garden is and Maintained really well by the staff who works here. If you are in the area I would recommend visiting this place, the staff here are very friendly, helpful and it’s obvious they love their job.

We really enjoyed visiting here with our kids (ages 3 & 6). We’ve studied Washington with our schooling and seeing his favorite place really brought history alive. There’s something really amazing about standing on the back porch at Mt Vernon and enjoying the same view he loved standing where he probably stood. Even though the house tour is limited currently it was still worth doing and we highly recommend going. Learning about the way the house was built and how he worked the land was fascinating. Seeing his tomb was special. We went at the end of day and actually saw it with minimal people present. The guides were all helpful and very kind. We quickly visited the other burial grounds for the enslaved people as it was closing time. We appreciated that we could and they weren’t rushing us out.

A wonderfully presented piece of early US history. Although there are main house renovation works going on, it did not spoil the visit to this glorious spot. The volunteers - who are everywhere - keep you well informed of history and everything George Washington. Great food court, museum and shopping before you drive away.

Huntley Meadows Park is a beloved natural oasis in Fairfax County, offering a 2-mile marshland boardwalk trail and observation towers for wildlife viewing. Birders flock to the park for its access to over 200 unique bird species. The park's serene environment, with woodlands and marshes teeming with life, provides a peaceful escape from the surrounding urban landscape.
Excellent place to view wildlife of all types, especially birds. The boardwalks that wind their way through the park offer sweeping views of the marshy area. You’ll meet a lot of people taking pictures of the wildlife (including myself). If you’re coming out here with small children, be mindful of the fact that large portions of the boardwalk do not have railings so keep them close.

A gorgeous place to enjoy nature. Hike the boardwalk and the wooded trails and you’ll see plentiful birds, reptiles, flowers, and fungus. The nature center is small but informative. No dogs allowed on the boardwalk. Bring binoculars for bird watching.

Came one sunset for a bat program through the county park system, and didn't see any bats. But as we strolled the boardwalk through the swamp, we did get to see a bunch of beavers! Totally cool! Also lots of local birds and frogs and more. Totally need to come back in the day and see what else there is to see

The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, a branch of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum located near Washington-Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, VA, offers a free museum experience that explores the history of human flight through an impressive collection of aircraft and spacecraft exhibits. With three times the size of its DC counterpart, this sprawling center showcases thousands of aviation artifacts from early manned flights to modern engineering advancements.
This air and space museum was an absolutely incredible visit. As per normal, I had goosebumps the whole time, whilst almost tearing up and gasping every time I saw one of my favourite aircraft in person for the first time! Absolutely heaven for me as an aviation and space geek! The fact entry is free is absolutely insane to me, considering the fact some of the legendary vehicles include the Enola gay, space shuttle discovery, SR-71, Concorde and 196 more aircraft! The information for each exhibit was so interesting, and the staff members around the museum were super friendly and talkative. Every aerospace museum in the US has blown me away so far, but this hits the top 3 for me. Highly recommend to anyone in the area who has a love for air and space, especially the history.
Jordan A — Google review
Perfect place to visit! Admission is free, and parking is only $15, which is very reasonable for what you get to experience. The museum has an incredible selection of aircraft and helicopters on display, including the legendary Blackbird, the historic Kitty Hawk, the unique Oblique Wing research aircraft, and even the iconic Concorde. Each exhibit is well-presented, and you can get up close to the planes, making it both educational and exciting. There are also plenty of interactive displays and informative signs that explain the history and technology behind each aircraft, which makes it engaging for both kids and adults. One of the highlights is the observation area, where you can sit and watch planes taking off and landing—it’s such a fascinating experience, especially for aviation enthusiasts. The museum is well-maintained, clean, and easy to navigate, with friendly staff available to answer questions. It’s a great place for families, history buffs, and anyone curious about flight. You can easily spend a few hours here exploring everything. A must-visit if you’re in the area!

What a cool place. I've been to the National Air and Space museum in DC, but it has been a while. Just recently found out about this place and I just assumed it wouldn't be at quite the same level as the one in DC. I was wrong. It has a great selection of planes, jets, and other aircraft organized by ear. Several nice practical learning activities too. All of this without the hassle of getting around in downtown DC. My only complaint is that I wish they had some aircraft that were accessible. We recently visited a very small regional airport with a museum and were able to board and explore nearly all of their planes. I definitely recommend a visit!
Doug B — Google review
This is a must see for any air or space enthusiasts. It’s about an hours by subway and bus from downtown DC - but well worth the trip. Walk right up to the Space Shuttle and an SR71 and hundred of other planes. We had an incredible 87 year old docent named Joe who gave us a free 2 hour tour. Joe brought personal experiences and detailed knowledge to all the planes and exhibits. Amazing.

One of the finest Aviation museums out there. Many one of a kind surviving airframes. The WW2 collection is impressive including many important German Airplanes which are top notch restored. Whenever I fly out of Dulles International I make sure to spend my time in this Museum. Admission is free, parking for 15$ with plenty of parking space available. Will continue to visit, the exhibition is changing regularly.

It's FREE and open to the public with no ticket required! 🎉 Highly recommend visiting!"

Absolutely fantastic! The sheer size and scale of the museum can't be fully appreciated through a camera lens. The Mt Vernon Trail is an 18-mile scenic riverside pathway that links Theodore Roosevelt Island to George Washington's estate in Alexandria, Virginia. Starting at the peaceful Theodore Roosevelt Island, the trail offers diverse landscapes including swampy lowlands and dense woodlands as it leads to Mount Vernon. On the return journey, cyclists are treated to stunning views of Washington, DC's iconic skyline along the Potomac River.
Easy access from Crystal City hotels. You can loop over to the trail and back, as there are a couple of access points in the Reagan Airport area. Lots of shade and room for bikers and runners. Further north you get, the better the views you get of D.C. monuments.

So much fun we decided to take the Mount Vernon Trail from the Lincoln Memorial to Alexandria, Virginia. We rented E scooters and E bikes. The trail was near a highway for parked but once you get closer to Alexandria, it was off the highway and near the Potomac. Even near the airport

Jan 2024 update: Since my initial review, there is work underway on the trail south of Belle Haven Park: - the small bridge just south of the park has been replaced (pictured) - the long bridge at Dyke Marsh is being replaced (pictured) - the sections of the trail that collapsed just north of Northdown Road have been repaired Nice to see! Hopefully this work is a precursor to resurfacing the water and root-damaged sections! ----- The trail location itself is wonderful offering spectacular views of DC, monuments/memorials, and the Potomac River. However, as a cyclist I must sadly rate it a '3' due to its poor and deteriorating condition. Tree root intrusion, water damage, and rough/decaying wooden bridges are common throughout the trail. The section south of Belle Haven Park is especially bad with large potholes and areas where the trail has actually collapsed. If you have never ridden the trail, use extreme caution especially on the southern end. It would have been great if the NPS had received money from the infrastructure bill to rehabilitate the MVT, but sadly that does not appear to have happened. You realize how bad the MVT has become when you ride the W&OD. This is a precious resource sadly not maintained...

Awesome trail for cyclists, bicyclist, runners and dog walking. Beautiful scenery with mile markers to George Washington’s Mount Vernon Plantation. Rented bikes from Washington DC (Unlimited Bikes) and rode round trip. Definitely recommend E-Bikes with possible wind, chilly conditions and or kids. 18 miles each way. Going back was definitely easier but trail has a lot wooden bridges and bumps in the asphalt from tree roots. Took majority of our day plus visiting the plantation. Highly recommend but if you have kids can be extremely difficult. We rented a tandem and our 11 yr basically enjoyed the ride 😀 Halfway point in a cute town in Alexandria, Virginia with Unlimited Biking location there as well. You can also drop off your bike their if your struggling all the way back into DC.

Families can explore a children's garden, gazebo, pond, small bridges, and the cultural interest of the Korean Bell Garden.
Unique combination of scenic lakes and trails. Blooming lotuses and water lilies were most memorable part of the visit along with Korean Bell Garden. Ponds are teeming with koi fish and turtles. Cool botanical gardens to visit if you are in the area. Easy weekend parking in ample parking lot.

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia is an absolute gem and easily one of the most beautiful spots in the area. From the moment you step in, the sense of peace and serenity makes it feel like a retreat away from the busyness of Northern Virginia. The gardens are thoughtfully designed with a mix of scenic walking trails, open lawns, vibrant flower beds, and tranquil ponds that create a perfect balance of nature and artistry. One of the highlights for me was the Korean Bell Garden, which is not only stunning but also rich in cultural significance. The ponds are another favorite, filled with koi fish, turtles, and blooming water lilies that add to the charm. There are plenty of benches and gazebos throughout, making it easy to stop, sit, and take in the views at your own pace. What I really love is how accessible the gardens are for all ages, whether you’re on a romantic stroll, enjoying a family outing, or simply seeking quiet time alone. Parking is plentiful, and the visitor center is clean and well-maintained. Seasonal blooms mean every visit feels different, so there’s always something new to enjoy. If you’re looking for a place to relax, recharge, or simply be surrounded by beauty, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is a must-visit. Five stars without hesitation!

Beautiful botanical garden and hidden oasis! We enjoyed walking through the property and taking in the scenery. There weren’t too many people there so it was a peaceful experience for us. I think this place really needs to do some special events to be more marketable. Pumpkin displays for the fall and Christmas illuminations would be such a great addition to bring in more people. I have so many ideas for this place and would love to share them to their marketing team or management 🫶🏽 This location is really beautiful and serene and they have a great foundation to build more exciting attractions that will generate more income. Can’t wait to come back on a Wednesday and bring my pup with me!

This is an absolutely beautiful botanical garden. In its off season the fall colors are vibrant and spectacular. There are many trails that lead to wonderful views. The Koi fish pond is wonderful with very large Koi constantly visible along with many turtles. The architecture was splendid and featured traditional Korean design. The staff was very friendly and included volunteers throughout the garden to ask questions about key features. I look forward to visiting this garden again in the spring to experience it splendor.

9/9/25 Tuesday. What a pleasant experience. I was visiting family and decided to go solo for some nature recovery. Found this gem online and went for stroll for a couple hrs. I was moved by the Muir Woods quote as I have there. This was a peaceful sanctuary with much to explore and ponder over. Staff was friendly and place was kept clean. Spotted many couples along my walk which was very cute. The greenhouse, pines, lilies, and the quite were the right ingredients for a much needed respite. I would encourage you to put away your phones and fully immerse yourself in this garden to make the most out of your trip and the $8 entrance ticket which I feel was very reasonable.

I came here to enjoy fall foliage. I was glad I did. So peaceful and so tranquil. It also a perfect place for kids to run around. No waiting. Plenty of parking spaces (weekends might be different). Walking trails are limited; most part has been fenced and blocked, but the scenery away from bustling city makes up for it. You will not be disappointed.

It was a wonderful experience. At the entrance, they had a small bonsai display. The people at the entrance explained to us that food is not allowed inside the park, and they kindly stored our food for us until we picked it up again. The park is beautiful, with plenty of benches and paths that make the walk accessible, especially for older people or those with special needs.

Such a fantastic place to visit. Nestled into Fairfax, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is a serene oasis featuring paved walking paths, the Korean bell garden, ponds, and plenty of open space to take in the beautiful views. We've been here multiple times and will visit again next season.

Sights & Landmarks
Ball's Bluff National Cemetery, located in Leesburg, Virginia, commemorates the first Civil War battle in Loudoun County. The site preserves the battlefield and offers weekly tours from April to November. It is the third smallest national cemetery in the U.S., with 54 Union soldiers interred in 25 graves due to multiple bodies being buried together. The headstones are arranged in a half circle around a central flagpole.
The cemetery has an interesting arrangement of headstones installed in a half circle, with the US flag in the center. I'm not really into history but I have the appreciation of men fighting wars for the right reasons. Often, I do wonder if all wars were/are fought for the right reason rather than the bad masqueraded as good? God blessed them and may all of them rest in peace.

The third smallest national cemetery in the U.S. contains the remains of 54 Union soldiers interred in 25 graves. The reason for the numbers mismatch is that all but one of the 25 gravesites marks the spot of “Boxes containing Portions of 2 or 3 bodies–some not more than one except the scull or rather 2 sculls,” (sic) according to an 1877 letter written by the Leesburg postmaster. The reason for the number 54 is that there were 54 skulls reburied. The only identified body in the cemetery is 22-year-old Pvt. James Allen, Co. H, 15th Massachusetts Infantry.

Amazing piece of history we visited on Memorial Day to honor our Veterans. Unlike our foreign War Vets, these brave soldiers were some of our very first heros to make the supreme sacrifice to protect the Freedom we enjoy today within our country's borders. Clean, beautiful, easy to navigate trails, and a story that will engage your curiosity. We highly reccommend!

I found this to be a very peaceful and interesting historic graveyard. It is quite small, but there are a few plaques around to provide information. The setting is pleasant, and there are some good light hiking trails around that allow you to explore the setting of the civil war battle that took place here.
