Auto Race Tracks
This stock-car racetrack hosts NASCAR events & driving schools plus has an on-site museum.
A great experience everyone should have once in their life, or more. Easy access and parking. There is also an overnight camping area. The vendor area was really fun with a lot to buy. Admission price is very reasonable and every seat has a great view since it's a smaller NASCAR track
Kevin C — Google review
First time at this race track and it was a amazing experience. We stayed in Florence just outside of Darlington, getting to the track was easier than expected. Parking was not bad either, the police officers did an exceptional job with traffic control and letting people have fun without harassing. Fans were there to watch the race and party but were very respectful. After the race we stayed in the grandstands for about an hour then walked to the car and stayed for another 30 minutes to let the traffic lighten up. It was easy to get out and make it back to the hotel without big traffic jams. I would definitely say this would be a great race for the family to experience. 👍

We stayed in the infield for the 75th anniversary throw back race and lots of weird rules. No bicycles. Dogs can’t be outside of your campsite. Meaning you can’t walk them. Very very tight parking and hard to move around with a camper. Get in early cause if you don’t you won’t. Some of the long timers are not very understanding on why they can’t park there car in your campsite. Weird I know. But we had fun meet some of the drivers and did laps for charity.
Chris S — Google review
This place was a awesome experience! I got to go through a whole new atmosphere, the second I entered property. I drove 8 hours to get there and it was totally worth it without a doubt!!! The museum they have is also very informing and great to learn about your favorite cars! I recommend coming and enjoying your time at Darlington raceway!
Lucas — Google review
The venue was awesome, however you need to be prepared to do a lot of walking from where you park to the actual track. Nascar is always a great time.

South of the Border Motor Inn

Motel
Water & Amusement Parks
Simple rooms in a Mexican-themed resort with a theme park & a sombrero-shaped observation tower.
The room was huge, extremely clean. I used to be a professional housekeeper and can find the dirt anywhere. This place is spotless. The beds were very comfortable, its dated but I kinda of enjoy that retro feel. I love the pool options. They have a beautiful indoor poor with the dome over it and a really nice outdoor pool with tons of lounge space. I would 100 percent come here again.
Hope N — Google review
I remember going here as a kid and it is still as pristine and enchanting today. The only down side is that society as a whole doesn't appreciate the simpler and cheesy nature of life 20 years ago. Too bad because there is still so much fun and memories to be hard here. The buildings and restrooms were to notch in appearance and cleanliness. We'll worth taking the time to take selfies with the many quirky statues and props. Go here to make a few memories with your family and remember the nostalgia.
Ronald B — Google review
Not a 5 star place but my room was huge, very clean and a comfy bed. The village is a fantastic little tourist trap. Had a great breakfast at the place next to the gift shop and a really good steak under the sombrero... you should spend a day here just to say you did it, tell your kids Disney world was closed and that was the #2 option
Philip W — Google review
Kids loved it. I definitely enjoyed buying things. All different types of things. The cleanliness, the feeling the experience brings and the level of enjoying South Carolina.
Marquita G — Google review
A Stay to Remember… for All the Wrong Reasons 1. Wi-Fi in the room? Nope. I got so pruney sitting by the pool just trying to check my emails. 2. Hours of operation: We know it’s off-season, but shutting down almost everything at 7 p.m.? Meanwhile, fireworks are 24/7? Make it make sense. 3. Amenities: The shampoo provided was enough to wash exactly one butt cheek. 4. Toilet paper: Felt like sandpaper on my poor behind. Please invest in Charmin Extra Strong—your guests will thank you. 5. The TV situation: Pretty sure I needed a telescope. Was that a 26-inch screen? Walmart has 40-inch models on sale. Just saying. 6. The bed: I didn’t realize I’d booked a stay with the Flintstones. The bed was harder than a slab of granite. 7. Check-in: The new front desk staff couldn’t find my reservation. After digging through my junk email they finally located it. We got a parking pass but no directions, so we looped around like idiots. #TrainingNeeded 8. Gift shop: Decent, but please restock your light-up keychains. Out of N’s, R’s, and L’s! 9. Cultural note: Not a single Mexican in sight. Was hoping to see at least one of my fellow people. #Latino #MiRaza 10. Activities: No mini-golf? Missed opportunity. 11. Room privacy: The blinds didn’t close all the way. Had I not changed in the bathroom, my “hot bod” could’ve been a free show. 12. Phone book nostalgia: Found a Yellow Pages from 2013. Fun trip down memory lane, but maybe update it? Half those numbers probably belong to ghosts now. 13. Coffee tragedy: The Folgers machine nearly scalded me. Then the powdered creamer looked suspiciously like crushed Tums tablets. Might want to check those expiration dates. --- Final thoughts: Between the Flintstone mattress, the single-cheek shampoo, and the Tums creamer, this stay was one for the books. Would I come back? Only if the Wi-Fi reaches the room and the toilet paper stops waging war on my butt.
Ramon S — Google review
I had a pool pass. The place was empty. I had a lovely swim for at least 20 min. The water was refreshing, not overly warm. The place could use some cleaning/painting. It felt like an abandoned gem. The geodesic dome is really nice from the water
Rai P — Google review
Really enjoyed my stay. Room was HUGE. It's very quiet .it's old school and cozy. This is where I like to stay , instead of modern boring hotels that are popping up everywhere . Parking is very convenient . Friendly staff. Clean, beds and sheets are so comfortable . The room is spacious and at a great price.
Tiff T — Google review
Had a great time and haven't been there since the 70s. The rooms are dated but it was great overall just because it brought back memories as it child going on vacation and staying there with my family. It would be nice to say all of the rooms updated like some of them had been renovated but the ones we were in if there was any renovation done it was very minimal. Thank you for the wonderful stay and the wonderful memories but I had staying there with my sister and I traveling to Florida.

Nestled within the historic Fort Bragg, the 82nd Airborne Division War Memorial Museum is a treasure trove for military history enthusiasts. Established in 1945, this expansive museum spans 6,000 square feet and showcases an impressive array of exhibits that chronicle the storied past of the 82nd Airborne Division since its inception in 1917.
We really enjoyed ourselves! My nephews were visiting from out of state and one of them, especially, *loves* everything Air force (he wants to join one day). We had to take him! They have an amazing display of planes of so many variations, tanks, etc. They also have some beautiful displays and tributes to those who fell during Vietnam and the War on Terrorism.

Airborne all the way Airborne driving on, driving on! Truely a morale assett to the division garrison life....but you rarely see actual active duty paratroopers there. It was National Airborne Day 2025, August 16th and nothing special was underway upon an afternoon arrival. There were two WWII renactors....or waa it three? In an OD canvas tent outside the museum baking in the sun. Great historical museum and artifacts. Keep it open!
T C — Google review
We have visited this museum multiple times during our time at Fort Liberty and it’s a favorite place for us to bring family when they come to visit. Very clean place, lots to read and look at inside. A theater to watch a documentary on the subject and a nicely stocked gift shop. There’s also plenty to look at outside the museum.
Lorikeet P — Google review
Was in the area and checked out this musuem. Straightforward to get on base and musuem was great. Also checked out the JFK Special Forces Musuem that was on the way to 82nd musuem. Recommend both.

A great experience! Loved all the outdoor static displays.

Our first trip to Ft Bragg's museums while visiting our daughter and son in law stationed there. I must say this old Soldier was very impressed. Highly recommended.
Greg A — Google review
Really needs more to be added. There are SO many opportunities for Excellent displays that show the 82d trials and tough periods. FOB Airborne, the founding of FOB Shank...So many missed opportunities. There is lots of unused space in the museum- more can be added. The displays are pretty basic, and mostly talk about equipment. Well, isn't it the Dedicated Soldiers who really deserve some recognition?
Pts P — Google review
Small but informative Museum about the contributions of the 82nd Division. Nice memorabilia and items from all major conflicts. Must visit if you have access to Fort Bragg.

Aloha Safari Park

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Family-run zoo featuring a wide array of animals, most of which have been rescued.
Please do not listen to the reviews that posted before this post. This zoo is still amazing! We’ve been here for 17 years and it has changed over the years but we had the most amazing time today with my family in town! The drive through animal feeding was the best part! And for all those little girls out there that are obsessed with Capybara’s-they have 3! 2000% worth the $15 entrance fee! And the staff was wonderful-working hard to care for this little gem in our back yard! These animals are just beautiful!
Lisa S — Google review
Iam so glad I found this little zoo! It was such a fun experience for the adults and kids in our group! We also decided to do the animal encounter with a baby kangaroo. Even with the little lack of communication we received regarding the experience, we still had such a great time. And the team member who was with us for the encounter was so knowledgeable and willing to answer all our questions! Also the pricing is phenomenal for the experience you get!
Cassie M — Google review
This place was so fun!! We originally showed up to do the drive thru safari. However, once we arrived, we saw the drive thru was closed due to them getting ready for their Christmas drive thru. We didn’t know what to expect but we ended up just doing the walk thru safari. We loved it!!! They have all kinds of animals and you can pet kangaroos and feed donkeys, ostriches, giraffes, etc. We were a group of 4 adults so this place isn’t just for kids. Highly recommend and we can’t wait to come back to do the drive thru safari!
Marie H — Google review
second time going here and i can say , the later you go the better (during the week) went an hour before they closed on thursday and only two other groups walking around !! i feel like you can see more animals and even spend more time with the ones you like , without having everyone else close and by you (not in a mean way) !! the workers are nice and friendly as well … one of the best smaller zoos perfect for younger kids … took my one year old daughter for her birthday and she loved it (espically the cows) !!
Shelby L — Google review
Nice staff. The park is nice and appropriately sized. A bit expensive, however it includes the drive through experience which is awesome. It’s be nice if there was a little more ability to have interactions with the animals, not full on animal encounters, but just like petting the goats or something.
Kandace B — Google review
First time at Aloha Safari Park, I actually enjoyed myself. I'm glad I paid for a cup to feed the Barnyard animals that was actually the highlight of my visit. I enjoyed looking at all the animals of course but as a hands-on person I really enjoyed feeding the Barnyard animals the most. The giftshop had great souvenirs if you like buying something as a memory item. All and all I had a great time!
Amanda B — Google review
We did not like this experience. To each their own. The exhibits were random, completely different species exhibits were beside each other in a cramped barn. We will not be returning. The loud Christmas music on November 1st really annoyed us. The staff were more busy setting up Christmas decorations (once again on November 1st) than fixing broken fences that almost fell on my toddlers near the emu exhibit. It’s giving consumerism and only caring about making a dollar. The whole zoo just seemed RANDOM?? The animals seemed stressed out. Particularly the monkeys and tigers. The animals in general did not have much space to roam and the conditions seemed pretty bleak. I wouldn’t waste the money to attend it. First “zoo” I have went to that I genuinely felt bad for the animals. Felt like a Netflix tiger king exhibit to be honest.
Lauren M — Google review
A Hidden NC Gem for Families We had the most amazing time at Aloha Zoo in Cameron this week — it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves! From the moment we arrived, our toddlers were wide-eyed with excitement, and the fun didn’t stop. We explored exhibits featuring monkeys, hyenas, tigers, crocodiles, giraffes, and so many other animals — each one more fascinating than the last. A highlight for our little ones (and us!) was getting to feed the animals — it’s such an interactive, up-close experience that they’ll be talking about for a long time. But hands down, the most unforgettable part was the drive-through safari. Where else can a camel stick its head through your car window and nearly steal your taco bowl? This zoo is a perfect, family-friendly adventure with a personal, welcoming feel. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun, memorable day trip. We’ll definitely be back!

World's Largest Chest of Drawers

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled in High Point, North Carolina, known as the "Furniture Capital of the World," you'll find the whimsical World's Largest Chest of Drawers. This impressive 32-foot Victorian dresser-shaped structure is a delightful roadside attraction that invites visitors to snap memorable photos. Families and kids are particularly enchanted by its quirky charm, making it a perfect quick stop during your travels. While parking options are available nearby—both on the road and in an alley behind—the area encourages brief visits to keep traffic flowing.
If you’re into weird roadside stops like I am, you’ve gotta check out the World’s Largest Chest of Drawers in High Point, North Carolina. I visited last November, and yes—it’s exactly what it sounds like: a 38-foot-tall dresser right in the middle of a neighborhood. High Point is known as the “Furniture Capital of the World,” so this giant chest is their version of a monument—and honestly, I respect it. It’s painted bright blue with two massive socks hanging out of one drawer, like your house just grew legs and a laundry problem. It’s totally free, takes maybe 10–15 minutes to visit, and makes for a perfect quirky photo stop. There’s even a matching “Giant Highboy Dresser” a few blocks away, if you want the full furniture-tourist experience. Is it weird? Definitely. Is it worth a detour? 100%. Because honestly, what’s a road trip without a random giant dresser in your camera roll?
Deanna T — Google review
If you're looking for some roadside Attraction to visit just for the fun of it, then this is for you. We do enjoy seeing the world's largest whatever is as we cross the country. Sometimes they're a bit of a tourist trap but in general it's just for fun. That's exactly what this is. It is fun to see. It was easy to get to. There just isn't anything to do when you get there as far as the feature. There's no gift or souvenir shop. You're basically stopping along a city street to take a picture of the world's largest chest of drawers.
Myron J — Google review
High Point is considered the “Furniture Capital of the World”, and the dresser was built in the 1920s as a way to highlight the city’s furniture industry. The oversized chest of drawers even has two dangling socks carved on the front—symbolizing High Point’s role in hosiery production as well. It’s become an iconic roadside attraction, often visited by tourists and furniture shoppers alike.
Brian L — Google review
Very cool and a short drive from winston salem, unfortunately its having repairs made right now and theres a fence around it. You can still take good pictures though! Where i parked wasnt wheelchair accessible, but there is a sidewalk so there are places to park where it could be accessible. Since im ambulatory (able to walk short distances) i was able to get in front and snap a pic!
Conner E — Google review
Very disappointed that we could not climb into at least one of the drawers. There was a selection of socks hanging from the drawer... Rather untidy if you ask me! There was a fence around the "attraction" which restricted movement around said "attraction". There was no gift shop or other rides in the immediate vicinity or other giant furniture such as a dressing mirror?? Will these be added in the future? Asking for a friend...
Dadbod D — Google review
I love finding unique things to see across America. Between this and the large chair I couldn't stop laughing. It is worth the stop.
Joellen R — Google review
The original location has a dresser under construction, but is closed with No Trespassing signs. We passed what we think was a new location called Furnitureland South located off Route 29.
Steve ( — Google review
While the chest of drawers was cool, we thought it would be at a park or something. It was a building on thr road with only a couple spots of street parking. The area seemed a little sketchy due to boarded up house next to where we parked with people sitting on thr porch to keep cool. Not bad for a photo op, but I wouldn't plan to spend any length of time here.

Kaleideum North, formerly known as SciWorks, is a nature and science facility in Winston-Salem that aims to promote literacy, science, and continuous learning. The museum offers a wide range of interactive exhibits covering various subjects such as biology, sound, physics, health, and the environment. Visitors can also explore the planetarium to learn about celestial bodies and space. Additionally, the facility features outdoor activities including nature trails and animal habitats for families to enjoy.
We always have a wonderful visit here, and this time did not disappoint! We went on a rainy weekday, so we didn't do any of the outdoor activities, but we especially enjoyed all the winter themed additions they had in the front lobby (pretend ice skating, ice fishing, snowmen and snowballs). It is normally not very crowded on weekdays, and we had the planetarium all to ourselves for our tour of the solar system. By the way, the man who runs that program is really great! He makes the experience fun, interactive and educational- I definitely recommend it! We look forward to coming back for another visit!
Elizabeth M — Google review
The museum has some interesting and fun exhibits, but the place is very run down. My toddler enjoyed the preschool play area the most, which was well kept. The videos for some of the exhibits were easily 20-30 years old. I wish I could’ve let my child play in the ice/snow themed room longer because the ice skating floor and fake snowballs were fun, but the room smelled like mold. Honestly it’s the first time I’ve been to a museum in such rough condition. I hope they’re able to upgrade it soon because the staff and exhibit themes are wonderful.
Monique G — Google review
I took my 8 year old over spring break. We had a good time and stayed for a few hours. It was a little dated in some ways. We watched the star show in the planetarium and although we enjoyed it the stars were so dim it was hard to see in the complete darkness! The shows operator said they were in need of an equipment change and definitely needed some new bulbs for the projector. They will be closing this location soon to join with their sister site downtown in a new building! We will definitely check that out and are looking forward to it!
Danielle R — Google review
Large kids museum that has a number of great exhibits. We were very impressed with the animals especially. The staff here is very helpful and considerate. The museum also features an outdoor nature walk, garden, and outdoor learning exhibits. Highly recommend for family visits.

I used to come as a kid, when I was 5. 11 years later, I brought my 5 year old sister. I went today, and still was not disappointed, I do miss the animals they used to have and the ride-on handle cart things which they’ve replaced with the icey area. Love this place for entertainment regardless.
Charley — Google review
What a great place to visit. Lots to see inside and there is a trail outside as well. The laser show was outdated and kinda of well..90s but the kids liked it. Highly recommend coming for a visit. You'll learn some cool things too. Plan to spend 2-3 to three hours to see everything.
Ronnie E — Google review
Excellent place to take children. Lots to do! They have an assortment of animals, like snakes, spiders, birds, and some really cool and interactive science exhibits!
S G — Google review
I am revising my post on the Kaleideum North impart due to the feedback I had from my last post it would appear the reason why things are not getting repaired or it may look kind of unkept as far as building appearance is due to the fact that they plan on moving out of this location and it makes sense not to sink a ton of money into something that's not going to be around for them it makes me wonder if the new location is going to be more interactive and not have any animals or have a few animals needless to say as it stands this location still provides Interactive exhibits for the children to Play and Learn it is nice to see a few animals left can't wait to see what the future holds for the Kaleideum

We had an incredible Father’s Day experience at Raffaldini Winery, and it was truly made special thanks to Denise’s outstanding service. She was so lovely, knowledgeable, and kind, she made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The winery itself is absolutely breathtaking, the views, the atmosphere, and of course, the wine! We enjoyed a beautiful family day and were so happy to be able to bring our baby along and relax in such a stunning setting. My husband had a memorable time, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. Thank you, Denise, and the entire Raffaldini team for making our day so special!

The restaurant boasts gorgeous views and the staff is super friendly. We ordered two different sets of flights. The waitress was great explaining the difference in flavors. My favorite wine was the basil strawberry! They also had vendors on hand and a food truck. We walked through the vineyard and took beautiful photos. I highly recommend visiting!!!

A Truly Beautiful Experience at Raffaldini Vineyard & Winery Raffaldini Vineyard and Winery is an absolute gem! The surrounding scenery is breathtaking, stunning backdrop for a relaxing day. The service was warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The views are truly amazing—perfect for taking in the natural beauty while enjoying some of the wines. We particularly enjoyed the wine flights and prosecco, which were surprisingly good and expertly crafted. Our day was delightful, and sharing this experience with my husband and best friends made it even more special. Happy to say Raffaldini is a beautiful place to visit, relax, and indulge in great wine and company. It’s definitely worth the trip, and we look forward to returning soon!

Worth each & every penny you spend… Wedding photographer here! I can’t rave enough about this venue. They without a doubt deserve any bit of attention they get. The grounds are well kept, every direction you look, you will have your breath taken. I was so amazed at how clean, beautiful, & detailed everything was. I honestly didn’t want to leave. Driving up felt like entering a dream! If you were looking for the extra push to check this place out, here it goes… Anddddd if you are hoping to have a photographer to take along for the ride that has super unbelievable rates, it wouldn’t hurt to contact me too 😂 - Mo’elle Photography & Video

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Yadkin Valley, Raffaldini Vineyards delivers one of the most unexpected wine experiences on the East Coast. Driving up the winding mountain road, the view shifts from Carolina pines to what feels like a slice of Tuscany transplanted into North Carolina soil. The estate, modeled after a Tuscan villa, greets visitors with terracotta tones, arched windows, and sweeping terraces that overlook the Blue Ridge Mountains. What sets Raffaldini apart, beyond its breathtaking setting, is the authenticity in the glass. The family has imported rootstock directly from Montepulciano, Italy, ensuring that the wines grown here carry not only the flavor of the land but also the DNA of the Old World. It’s a surprising twist that elevates Raffaldini from a charming Southern vineyard to a true bridge between continents. The Montepulciano-based reds are bold yet graceful, showing dark cherry, plum, and a whisper of spice—a nod to their Italian ancestry, but shaped by the cooler nights and mineral-rich soil of the Carolina mountains. White wines like Vermentino bring a crisp, Mediterranean brightness that feels almost surreal when sipped against a backdrop of Appalachian ridgelines. The tasting room staff lean into this dual identity, walking guests through flights that feel both familiar and adventurous. One moment you’re savoring the rustic earthiness of an Italian-style red, and the next you’re gazing out over the Carolina landscape, reminded that you’re very much in North Carolina. In short, Raffaldini is not just a winery—it’s an immersion. A Tuscan dream reborn in the Blue Ridge, proof that with vision, roots, and respect for tradition, the flavors of Montepulciano can thrive thousands of miles from their birthplace. For lovers of wine, travel, and surprising discoveries, Raffaldini is a must.

Pilot Mountain State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Hiking & rock climbing on iconic, 2,400-ft. Pilot Mountain with a separate riverfront area.
I love the views from Pilot, but the overlook from the parking lot is not what it used to be. Some young trees have grown up, so if you really want to get a look at the stunning valley view you’ll need to do a little hiking or rock climbing. That said, this is a very pretty and serene place. It’s worth the effort. The trails have a lot of boulders for steps and can be challenging. Hiking poles are highly recommended, particularly if you are an active older person looking to get exercise while minimizing your risk of falling. Likewise you might want to avoid hiking up or down Three Bears Gully - which is on the scary side. I’d suggest bug spray to keep ticks at bay and sunscreen as well. Nothing out of the ordinary for warm weather hiking in the south eastern US. Ravens nest on the pinnacle so it can’t be climbed, but there is a trail that loops around the base. Hiking at Pilot can be a really great workout for your quads!

This is my go to place to hike because it is literally in my backyard. Trails are maintained and marked very well. There are several trails with different levels of difficulty ranging from easy too hard, so there is something for all skill levels. I love seeing people out there with their pets and young ones. It does my heart good to see young people getting away from TVs and video games.

We made a fall trip with bunch of friends to this gem of a place. Views and rock formations were amazing. We did a few short trails. The one called Pilot knob trail is a must, it is 0.8 mile and takes just a little to go around the top. Drive from Charlotte was easy. We didn’t have to use shuttle as there were many parking spots on top of mountain but they do have shuttles from the bottom parking lot if top one is full. State park folks has maintained this park to the top notch. Some parts were closed for rock climbers while in other part we saw many climbers.

We hiked the Grindstone and the Pilot Knob Trails. Both trails are well maintained and marked. While Grindstone is rated strenuous, I would rate it moderately strenuous. Overall it's mostly moderate due to the trail surface itself being well maintained and use of switchbacks to ease the climb. One section above the 1.5 mile marker is more difficult as it's not switchbacked with a steeper pitch up the mountain and a bit rocky. The views from Little Pinnacle Overlook and Pilot Knob Trail are outstanding. The top is a bit like Mount Mitchell since you can also drive to the top. Pick your time to do the hike carefully to avoid the crowds at the top!

I have always loved Pilot Mountain State Park! When I was little, my family would go camping here every year. I'm glad it is still thriving and loved that they have added a shuttle for more people to be able to enjoy the Knob. It was certainly busy but there are many different trails to choose from. If you bring a dog, they are not allowed on the shuttle. We took the Grindstone trail from the visitors center up to the knob (3.5 miles one way). There were definitely some strenuous sections but also some flattish sections that provided a bit of a break. Bathrooms at the top were clean and there were working water fountains outside the bathroom!

Arrived early for a star party with the Forsyth astronomy club at the summit parking lot. It became cloudy at night but I did get some sunset pictures. Great visibility. On a clear day, with binoculars, you can see the condos on top of Sugar Mountain, which is 79 miles away. Winston Salem and Greensboro skylines are easy. You can see the Charlotte skyline (80 miles away) also. If you hike the Little Pinnacle trail, you will see Hanging Rock/Moore's Wall and Sauratown mountains. The visitor center is tremendous and very informative. Learn about the history of the Saura Indians, animals, flora, fauna and geology of this region.

Majestic views. Better than I expected. The drive up to the top was beautiful with the fall leaves all around us. Then at the top there are several lookouts to enjoy the top of Pilot Mountain, trees and valley from above.

Nature & Parks
Hanging Rock State Park is a stunning natural area with cliffs and plateaus, offering various outdoor activities such as rock climbing, lake fishing, swimming, camping and hiking. The hike to the top of the park requires proper preparation as it involves climbing up actual rocks with an elevation gain of 2000 ft. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views at the top along with beautiful waterfalls. The park has a visitor center that provides basic amenities including bathrooms and water refill stations.
𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤 – 𝐀 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 Hanging Rock State Park is an excellent spot for hiking, located just about an hour from Greensboro. I recently went there with some colleagues from work, and we had a great time exploring the trails. The park offers beautiful scenic views, well-maintained hiking paths, and a peaceful natural setting that makes it perfect for a day trip. It’s a great mix of challenging and moderate trails, so there’s something for everyone. I also noticed a lot of families with kids enjoying the park, which speaks to how accessible and family-friendly it is. One of the best parts is that it’s not overly crowded, so you can truly enjoy the environment without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Plenty of parking spots too, which made the experience even more convenient. Overall, if you enjoy nature, hiking, or just want to get out of the city for a bit, Hanging Rock is definitely worth the visit!

Before heading back home we had decided to make a stop here after a night of camping. We came here on Sunday and it was pretty busy. We decided to checkout the waterfalls since they’re not long hikes. The cascade waterfall is the easiest. The other two are not hard to get too, but you will have many stairs and rocks to walk back up and it’s uphill the entire way back. But the falls were beautiful and the overlook was gorgeous as well. This is a dog friendly hike too. There is a large campground there, a visitor center and lots of places to sit and have a picnic.

Great Hike, Be Ready for the Incline (Budget Extra Time!) The logistical side of this hike is excellent. The parking situation is super great for the trailhead, and the path itself is very well maintained and clearly marked. The trail to Hanging Rock has some great, steady incline, so be prepared for a solid workout. Fortunately, there are plenty of natural spots and benches to stop and rest as needed. A note on timing: The path is 1.8 miles one way. We were really "huffing it" and managed the round trip in 1 hour and 20 minutes, but for most hikers, you should easily budget at least two hours just for the ascent and descent, not including the time you spend enjoying the views at the top. Bring water and take your time!

Definitely worth it. The drive is beautiful up there already. There are a couple of waterfalls with a very short hike (window and hidden falls). The hanging rock trail itself is a bit steep at some points but definitely doable and worth it! You can’t go wrong going mid to late October. The colors are already popping.

First off, know that they go on an hour long lunch break around 1pm and have no one at the visitor center or any signs placed on the door stating this. 🤦🏼‍♀️ There were multiple people standing around confused because of this. Secondly, if you are staying in a cabin, BE AWARE that the doors lock on their own when they are shut. 🙄 For whatever reason they did not relay that to us nor were there any signs to let us know on the cabin. We were very lucky we made it to the office 5 minutes before they closed to have an officer come let us back in. It felt that we were an annoyance due to this, even though we had no way of knowing. It’s upsetting because we were there since noonish and I asked if there would be anyway we could do an early check in to the cabin even if at 3 or 330 instead of 4 and was told possibly so we checked back a couple times and they just seemed flabbergasted for some reason?? I don’t understand why they could not simply reach out to the person who cleans the cabins and request #6 which was ours to not be cleaned last.. being that there was only 4 at the most to clean as two of my neighbors had been staying there another night and stayed the night before. I talked to them and asked if they were told about the doors locking on their own and they said no and that they had the same problem?!? It’s just totally unnecessary and exhausting when they could simply print signs out. The positives of this place is that it’s absolutely amazing. It feels like a slice of heaven and I was impressed at the cabin price 200$ for two nights and it had heat, was cute inside and clean, a fridge , oven , microwave. They only have a teeny shower that clogs very easily but overall I was impressed with the cabin. Unfortunately dealing with several of the people running the place was unpleasant and the bed was more like a mat and we only got about an hour or two of sleep so we only stayed one night. I will definitely be back at some point to hike again but the less you have to deal with the workers the better. Also, don’t forget you need to bring your own blankets , sheets and towels etc to the cabin if you’re staying in one

I try to make it to Hanging Rock at least once a year. This is one of my favorite places and it has something for everyone. Great for a challenging hike with some amazing views or a casual stroll with some lovely waterfalls. I especially like going in autumn when temps are a little cooler and the fall colors are starting to pop.

Our server Ashley was awesome!! Fun and great personality. The Halibut special was amazing along with the Cabernet and Merlot that we had with dinner! I can't share enough good things about our recent experience at Harvest Grill & beautiful Shelton Vineyards. Although, we have enjoyed eating there before, this time our daughter was getting engaged. Benson White & the staff all went above & beyond to make it extra special for the happy couple & our immediate family!! The table was lovely & we had the most amazing food. Everyone loved the charcuterie board!! It was beautiful & so delicious! I'm very happy we went with this location. It could not have been a more perfect evening for our family.

Shelton is gorgeous first off! We had reservations at the Harvest Grill and it was a fantastic meal! We didn’t let the drunk people beside of us ruin it - they had definitely had too much to drink when you’re stumbling through the restaurant and can’t find your friends and having to hold onto chairs- so aside from that- the ambiance of the restaurant was 10/10 and the food was delicious. My favorite wine was the dry rosé! After the meal we went over to the tasting room and enjoyed a flight of 5 wines. They had cute items for sale as well as chocolates. We really enjoyed our visit and would come back again.

We went for my birthday. The food was great as well as the service. Our server Adrianne B was wonderful. This was our 1st time, and there was a little issue with a part of our food, but it was taken care of promptly. Being a vegetarian, it was nice to have several options. We will be back in a few months for our anniversary.

We had a late lunch reservation. Our server took forever to take our orders. Then we waited an extremely long time for our food to come to the table. They were not very busy so not sure what took so long. Four orders were for hamburgers ranging from medium rare to medium for the meat. All four were well done and dry. One order was for a chicken salad and the chicken was dry and overcooked. We visit Shelton a few times a year for their wine. This is the second year in a row we ate at the restaurant and were disappointed both times. We will be eating elsewhere for now on.

Stone Mountain State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
14,000 acres of parkland around a scenic granite dome, offering fishing, hiking, climbing & camping.
This is a beautiful state park. We tent camp but prefer to book a RV site due to them having water/electricity. The RV sites are large and leveled gravel and pavement. All include a fire ring ,picnic table and lantern post. We kinda like site 54 near the bridge and by the lovely creek. Some sites do offer more shade than others. The RV bath house is nicer than the ones in the tent areas. It has 3 toilets and 3 showers and sinks. Electricity also for hair dryers etc. The showers do have the push buttons and I hate those. Also when we were there it was hot so I would’ve enjoyed a cold shower but there isn’t any way to adjust water temperature. The park is huge and we enjoyed riding our bikes everywhere. There are many hiking trails and a huge picnic area outside of the campground. The campground checkin office does have ice and wood for sale. We’ve stayed here twice and both visits have been quiet and fun.

Stone Mountain State Park is a true standout in NC’s state park system. It rewards hikers who are willing to work for views and variety. Yes, the loop is difficult in parts, but those who tackle it come away with a sense of accomplishment—and some of the best scenic moments the region has to offer. There are also many waterfalls to see as well. Overall gorgeous park to visit.

Stone Mountain Park – Perfect Day Hike from Charlotte! If you’re looking for a solid hiking spot about 1 hour 40 minutes from Charlotte, Stone Mountain Park is a fantastic choice! We took the Stone Mountain Summit Trail (orange path), which is about 3.2 miles round trip from the parking lot to the top and back. It took us approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, with a moderate to tough difficulty level — especially the final stretch with some steep inclines. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a few snacks — the summit has breathtaking views that are perfect for a relaxing break. The trail is well-marked, the scenery is beautiful, and the reward at the top is totally worth the effort. Highly recommended for anyone up for a bit of a challenge and wanting to explore nature near Charlotte!

I used to live 20 minutes away and would hike this mountain all the time. When you live in the mountains, you stop appreciating all the beauty of it. It’s been almost 15 year since I’ve lived there or hiked this mountain. The Rangers do a great job with keeping everything preserved. I can tell the hurricane did some damage last year but it’s still so beautiful. It takes about four hours to do the whole hike - if you’d like to stop by the waterfall, chill on top of the mountain, or just taking your time to take in the beauty of the mountain. 10/10 🌟
Ryan L — Google review
Very big state park with lots to do. State Rangers are very helpful and informative. Roads and hiking paths are kept up and clear. I am disabled and the rangers told us of the disabled access points, parking etc which was extremely helpful. I was able to see the Homestead because of the disabled access and parking. There is no cellular Wi-Fi unless you connect to the parks so be aware that cell service too is sketchy. We were only there for a day and really needed so much more time. It’s a beautiful park with lots to do. The history alone was worth the trip for me. The Blue Ridge area nearby is worth a week’s trip. There is plenty of wildlife too, a baby deer was found by hikers near the homestead when we were there. If you are into camping it would be an amazing place to stay. Definitely check into it if you are considering going to the area.

The Andy Griffith Museum, located in Mount Airy, NC, is a 2,500-square-foot space dedicated to the life and career of the late actor Andy Griffith. Founded by his lifelong friend Emmett Forrest, the museum boasts the world's largest collection of Griffith memorabilia. Visitors can explore items from The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock sets as well as personal pieces like a rocking chair made by Griffith's father.
Walked in at 1 pm on a Monday. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised with how beautifully laid out the museum was. Timelines and mentions of local Mount Airy are found throughout and how Andy paid homage to where he came from. I learned a lot about his life outside of the Andy Griffith show and enjoyed actual props from the show but samples of his stand-up comedic work as well. It was pouring rain so I wasn't able to stroll around and enjoy the other exhibits but was able to get a quick shot of the statue out front. Looking forward to coming back one day.

Floyd’s City Barber Shop, located at 129 N Main St, Mount Airy, NC 27030, has been a beloved establishment since its founding in 1929. It is still a fully operational barber shop and welcomes visitors to experience the nostalgia of sitting in the same chair once frequented by Andy Griffith. The shop is adorned with original pieces, artwork, photos, and memorabilia that capture the essence of its rich history. Visitors can also schedule appointments for services.
This by far was my favorite stop in Mt. Airy. The photos on the wall from throughout the years says a lot. Getting to see the antique barber chairs was amazing and meeting Floyd's grandson. He is an awesome man and educator. My son got one of the best haircuts he's ever gotten at Floyd's. So thankful for visiting and the experience. We also bought some merchandise while here that was very reasonably priced.

I want to thank Floyd’s City Barbershop for their many decades of service to Mount Airy and for being such a special part of Mayberry history. A big thank you also to Bill Hiatt for carrying on his father Russell Hiatt’s legacy and keeping the doors open all those years so fans from around the world could experience the magic of Floyd’s. While the original Floyd’s is now closed and a re-creation of the show Floyd’s is reopening in its place, the original barber chairs that Andy Griffith sat in, along with other memorabilia, are now located at my shop—Justin’s Barbershop in Smiths Station, Alabama. I count it a blessing to safeguard these historic pieces and share them with the community so that the Mayberry legacy Russell created in his shop continues to live on. Floyd’s ( Russell Hiatt’s and Bill Hiatt’s legacy) will always be remembered as a landmark of smiles, memories, and tradition, and I am grateful for the many years the relics of the original Floyd’s and atmosphere that was created brought joy to those around the world.

Fantastic track. You can see the whole 1/2 mile. The Martinsville Hot Dog is just …. Okay. There I said it. We each ate two and that was okay. I’m used to Nathan’s or Vienna Beef. The red Jesse Jones style is just not my thing. Also, their pricing is odd. It’s cheaper to get the 4 pack for $7 vs the 6 pack for $11! I’m sure most fans don’t calculate it out. Fans were nice. Family friendly. Aluminum benches had a backrest. I’d recommend a seat pad and ear plugs! Exiting the parking lot sucked. Just wait. They really need to fix the bumps that transition from grass to the road.

The U.S. Marine Corps 250 was our first experience at a NASCAR race track, and we are hooked! The Kids Zone was a great place for kids to build Lego models for a downhill race, to see a race car, and to eat some good treats. The Martinsville hot dog is worth absolutely worth the hype. Other highlights include free parking, ver reasonably priced concessions, and fairly comfortable seating. The environment was perfect, and the fans are the best!

A true gem for music lovers. Amazing museum which highlights the rich music history of the Appalachians. The weekly summer concert series is not to be missed. Wonderful live music, outdoors on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bring lawn chairs and a cooler and enjoy amazing music. The staff is so friendly it is a true feel good place.

What a wonderful stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway! We spent a few hours here and loved every moment. We brought a picnic and made use of the picnic tables for lunch—a perfect way to enjoy the peaceful mountain scenery before heading inside. The museum on site is small but so well done, telling the story of Appalachian music with videos, exhibits, and interactive displays. Afterward, we enjoyed the live music in the breezeway—local musicians playing bluegrass and old‑time tunes, which gave the place such an authentic and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly, the grounds are beautiful, and it’s a great mix of music, culture, and nature. If you’re driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, definitely make time to stop here.

This was a beautiful place to visit. The music was great and my 3 year old daughter had a blast. She danced her heart away. Was a very clean place. Inside has a great display and history of bluegrass music. The people inside were very nice. If you are in the area, I suggest you stop by.

Very nice Music center in the Blue Ridge mountains! It's free to enjoy the museum and a variety of activities, including libe music on certain days. Staff is very friendly. You really can get submerged into the history of Bluegrass and other music that originated in the area. Very educational and a nice spot to stop while exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Nice little visitors center with mini museum off the beaten path of the blue ridge parkway. Nice gift shop, clean bathrooms. Friendly rangers and access to some walking trails as well. Sometimes has live music events. There’s an amphitheater a short walk from the man visitors center.

My family stumbled upon this gem while driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They play music from 12:00-3:00...we arrived just in time to hear two songs just before they were done. Beautiful mountain music! 💞They also have a small museum and gift shop with magnets, mugs, shirts and sweatshirts.

Winery
Chateau Morrisette Winery is a charming spot nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The winery boasts a swish tasting room where visitors can sample their signature wines like the Black Dog dry red and Dog Blue blend. The on-site restaurant serves delectable American cuisine, from cheese and charcuterie plates to gourmet burgers and upscale dinner options. What's more, this pet-friendly winery welcomes dogs and even features them on their wine labels.
We went here today for our 27th anniversary. It was the best meal out we have ever had. The food and wine were fantastic but what made the evening perfect were the people who took care of us. Our server Robert was kind, considerate, and very helpful. The young person who checked us in offered us a glass of wine while we waited and was also very kind. They set us by a bay window so we could watch the sunset and mist roll over the mountains and Robert offered to take our picture! We drove 90 minutes from our place and the drive was worth it. You won’t regret your decision to eat here!

Chateau Morrisette is a gem along the stunning blue ridge parkway. You can feel the love that goes into the wine, the bottles label, the architecture (including all the repurposed barn wood) and the staff. Ryan, Melissa and Barnabas were so graciously welcoming. The whole experience felt warm, elegant and true to the winery’s family legacy. A must visit if you in the area. Maverick and I will be back.

A fabulous, lively winery. We were excited to try a flight and appreciated their help in choosing wines that we would enjoy. The member of staff who served was very friendly. We enjoyed all the wines and appreciated the detailed notes about each one. I particularly recommend their dry reds and you must try their Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots of varied seating inside and they have a good range of snacks.

We had lunch here and wow, what a beautiful place! It feels like you're in another country. My wife had a grilled chicken sandwich and I had a fried chicken sandwich and we paired it with an oaked chardonnay. Everything was wonderful and the staff was terrific! Highly recommend!

Absolutely beautiful winery from the exquisite detail in craftsmanship to selection of wines to pairing with foods. You won't be disappointed . Live music even on occasion

I've been coming to this winery for at least a decade. It never fails to impress. I love the wines. The people are so welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is a great time as well. Brunch is typically my choice, but their food is delicious regardless of the time. Don't miss out on their December/Winter Wine Sale! Well-behaved dogs are welcome! I always love seeing the ones hanging out in the tasting room/wine shop.
Mathew C — Google review
Chateau Morrisette is a must visit to add to your list. Their friendly staff are eager to share their delicious award winning wines with you. I had the most relaxing time catching up with one of my dear friends while there. They had a perfect red for me and my friend enjoyed "the best Sauvignon Blanc she ever had". If you are lucky like we were, Nobel the precious black lab will be there to make you feel right at home. Cheers!
Melissa L — Google review
Lovely winery in a beautiful setting. Live music in the courtyard. The tasting room is beautiful and dog friendly! The host dog, Noble, is a stately black Lab who meanders through the space greeting four-legged and two-legged guests. There is even a "tasting bar" of treats for dogs. The wine is good - Archival XII and 2021 Chardonnay were our favorites. No, it's not what you can get in Napa but it's delicious and convenient for those of us on the East Coast. We also had lunch at the restaurant - service was very good, ambiance was great - beautiful views of the surrounding mountains (as you can see from the pictures the day we went wasn't very clear, but it was still pretty). Crab cake appetizer was very good, shrimp and grits were watery. But overall, we love this place and will be back.

Lane Stadium, the largest stadium in Virginia with a seating capacity of over 65,000, is renowned as the home of the Virginia Tech Hokies football team. Constructed in 1964, this iconic sports venue holds a rich history and has been an integral part of Blacksburg's identity. Even for non-sports enthusiasts, visiting Lane Stadium provides an opportunity to immerse in the vibrant game-day atmosphere and witness the deep-rooted connection between the community and its beloved Hokies.
I drove in from Ohio to see Metallica. Arguably the largest event Virginia Tech has hosted outside of their football games. Not only was the entire event seamless the event staff was phenomenal. It's crazy to think an event of that caliber was so well constructed and organized... Fantastic Job!
Anthony Z — Google review
This is an awesome place to watch a football game. This was our second game at Lane Stadium, and there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. The fans are very and friendly, and the introduction is the best I have seen. Metallica's "Sandman" booms through the stadium, setting the tone very early. Too cool.
Nelson H — Google review
Metallica played Enter Sandman LIVE at the stadium last night, May 7, 2025. Virginia Tech Seismological Observator showed it registered on the Richter Scale. Amazing night! It was our first visit to the school and stadium. Thank you VA tech!
Rachael — Google review
An awesome experience attending the Metallica concert held at Lane stadium. The enthusiasm from the VT fans and Metallica fans is absolutely amazing. The venue was packed but I didn't observe one single issue the entire time with fans. I highly recommend that when the next concert is held there that you attend. You won't be disappointed.

Lane Stadium at Virginia Tech is a true gem in the world of college football! The atmosphere during game days is electric, but nothing compares to the iconic entrance. As the team runs onto the field, the roar of the crowd and the famous "Enter Sandman" blaring through the speakers creates a spine-tingling experience that sends chills down your spine. The passion of the fans is palpable, and the spirit of the Hokies is infectious. The stadium’s design allows for an intimate yet grand setting, where every seat feels close to the action. Whether you’re a die-hard football fan or just there to soak in the experience, Lane Stadium delivers an unforgettable environment. It’s no wonder that so many people claim it has the best entrance in college football! If you ever get the chance to witness a game here, don’t miss it!
David V — Google review
Great visit to see the Hokies, win in 2 OT. This would be 5 stars but the seats were not good and and did not let you sit relaxed. I'd rather sit in a bleacher seat than these plastic torture chairs. The atmosphere was amazing throughout the game and watching the students sing Enter Sandman was awesome.
Mark L — Google review
If it wasn't for the Metallica concert going on here, I probably wouldn't have ever visited this stadium. Mason reasons are because I don't follow college football, and I live on the West Coast of the US. But I'm so glad I decided to buy these tickets at the last minute, and came over to visit an old highschool buddy, and we went to this concert together. But aside from Metallica being there, the staff at this place was friendly, the place was well kept, and they even had snipers on the rooftops making sure nothing crazy went down. We met a lot of friendly and interesting people there, and overall our experience was great. Great job Virginia tech on running an awesome show and experience.

New River Gorge Bridge

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The New River Gorge Bridge is an iconic steel arch bridge, one of the longest and highest in the world, spanning the picturesque New River Gorge. Located near Fayetteville, this area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts with activities like whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing. The bridge offers breathtaking views and features an educational visitor's center and a charming gift store.
The New River Gorge Bridge is simply breathtaking and well worth the stop. Starting from the visitor center, we took the drive down below the bridge and it gave us a whole new perspective on just how massive and impressive the structure really is. The views from both the top and the bottom are incredible, and the drive itself is an experience—winding roads, river views, and plenty of photo opportunities. Pairing the visitor center exhibits with the bridge drive made the visit even more rewarding and gave us a deeper appreciation of this iconic landmark.

Wonderful ride through the gorge. Well worth the 45 minutes that I cludes a few stops to grap pictures. Scan the QR code to listen to the audio file of history as you take the ride through beauty and history. The rangers at the welcome center was awesome!
Cindi Y — Google review
We came for bridge day and it was spectacular! They close the bridge and catapult adventurous spirits straight into the New River below. Over 300 base jumpers from all over the world put on their packs and parachute down. It’s a sight to see! Lots of great vendors, food and events at during that weekend. We attended the taste of bridge day the evening before at the adventures on the gorge and it was awesome!
LORI D — Google review
One of the most iconic views in West Virginia. Seeing the bridge in person is completely different from photos, it stretches across the gorge like it’s floating, and the scale doesn’t fully hit you until you’re standing at the overlook looking out across miles of mountains. The bridge itself is one of the longest single-arch steel bridges in the world and also one of the highest in the U.S. It sits almost 900 feet above the river. The engineering alone is impressive, but the landscape around it is what really makes it special. The mountains roll in layers, and in the fall the colors are stunning reds, oranges, golds, and deep greens all stacked into the valley. There are several great viewing spots, but the Canyon Rim Visitor Center overlook and Long Point Overlook give the best angles. Long Point especially feels unreal, you’re right across from the bridge, eye-level with it. If you visit in October during Bridge Day, people BASE jump and rappel directly off the bridge, it turns into a full festival. Whether you’re hiking, just passing through, or stopping for photos, the New River Gorge Bridge is a must-see. Beautiful, massive, peaceful, and unforgettable.

Amazing place to visit. If you love history and nature at the same time, one of the best place to see in USA 🇺🇸❤️. 🏞️📍SUMMER 2024 The completion of the New River Gorge Bridge on October 22, 1977 solved a travel challenge. The bridge turned a 40-minute drive into less than a minute. It removed the need to navigate down narrow mountain roads across an ancient river. When it comes to road construction, mountains do pose a challenge. At New River Gorge, the challenge transformed into a work of structural art. The New River Gorge Bridge is the longest steel span in the western hemisphere. It is also the third highest bridge in the United States. The New River Gorge Bridge is one of the most photographed places in West Virginia. In 2006, the U.S. Mint chose the bridge to represent West Virginia on the state commemorative quarter. In 2013, the National Park Service listed the New River Gorge Bridge in the National Register of Historic Places. This listing signifies the importance of the bridge as a historic resource.

Beautiful fall colors and bridge view was outstanding! We were there on a Thursday before Bridge day on Saturday. Board walk was easy accessible from Visitors Center. Steps are 175 if you decide to walk all the way to the bottom. We only went about half way and did fine with an amazing view anyway. You can also drive around to the bottom
Melissa K — Google review
Went mid October 2025. This was a nice stop, a full service welcome center with bathrooms. It was very clean. However, it was also very crowded at this location, even after the welcome center closed. The bathrooms are locked inside the welcome center, making it impossible to go after 5pm. It is a short walk to the view of the bridge then some steps down to see a better view. Maybe a 5-10 minute stop total. This place is partly dog friendly. You can bring your dog to see the bridge. But for bridge day dogs are not welcome. Which is wild and quite frankly very sad considering it is quite literally an outdoor event. That made us disappointed and we did not go to bride day because of that. I would go back to see the view if I was in the area. No hiking or anything else exciting around there. But stunning views it was my second time here.
Rachel I — Google review
An iconic piece of architecture and featured on the West Virginia version of the state series quarters, this is the third tallest bridge in the US. While you can't really appreciate its height from the 4-lane highway that crosses it due to the high concrete barriers, seeing it from the Canyon Rim Visitor Center or from down below it is pretty impressive. Worth your time to visit, as the area is beautiful, especially during Fall like it was when we were there over the last week.

Fantastic stay at Adventures on the Gorge! We had a one-bedroom deluxe cabin and it was perfect for our crew. We met with friends who stayed in one of the larger cabins, which was nice as well. The campus is extensive with walkways and decks to marvel at the scenery. The restaurant that was open on the facility was very good. All the kids loved the pool, I loved the sunning deck with a view of the bridge (view pictured) We took the Treetop zip line tour and everyone had a blast, & felt safe with our wonderful guides! Would highly recommend the lodging and the activities at AOTG for families and groups!

Exactly what we expected. We are a retired couple who needed an inexpensive place to stay while enjoying the local sights. The cabin was clean and the mattress was okay for what it was. We liked the little end tables attached to the wall. The public bathrooms were extremely clean. The food from the restaurant that was open was great. They have a fantastic place set up to watch the sunset. It was my favorite thing about the resort.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Experience at Adventures on the Gorge! We had an incredible time doing the Gravity Zip Line—what a rush! The course itself is thrilling, with breathtaking views and heart-pounding fun, but what really made the experience exceptional were the people. Our guides, Bri, Madison, and Mark, were beyond outstanding—funny, knowledgeable, and totally on top of safety while still making it a blast from start to finish. Perry, our driver, was also fantastic and kept the energy high the whole way. The facilities were super clean, well-maintained, and added to the overall experience. It’s clear this place is run with pride and passion. We would highly recommend Adventures on the Gorge to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure—and we’ll definitely be back!

Absolutely no one else I would ever want to be my guide. Mike truly made this trip. The river itself is obviously gorgeous and a ton of fun. But Mike’s knowledge of the river, the local history, and everything there is to do nearby made it all next level. Plus he’s just a ton of fun to be around. Being from Michigan doesn’t hurt either (except, sorry Mike, Go Green!!) Thank you for everything!!

The capital building rises majestically against the skyline, a stunning testament to architectural brilliance. Every detail, from the intricately carved facades to the ornate columns, reflects the exquisite artistry and skilled craftsmanship that went into its design. The sunlight dances off its polished surfaces, illuminating the elegant dome and stately entrances. Its grandeur evokes a sense of awe, capturing the heart and imagination of all who gaze upon it!

What an impressive building - the 23 carat gold leafed done is perfect in the sunlight. And the view of the river in front sets it off well. Visit the Archives/Museum ( their gift shop has terrific articles and food made in WV)

The Gold Dome is iconic! I spotted it from miles away when driving in, and seeing it up close was very cool. Even in cloudy weather, it shone very brightly, as gold does. Seeing it up close was what really did it justice, like Jim could tell you (WV pun). Very much a stop and visit, cheers.
Kyle H — Google review
Parking and then finding a way into the capitol was not fun. Many entrances were closed to construction or security when we visited. Finally inside, we join a tour group already started. I've seen many incredible capitols (Mississippi for example) and WV just rubbed me the wrong way. It's the 5th(?) capitol built in WV and very, very "high-end" with imported crystal chandeliers from the Czech republic and millions of dollars worth of marble. For all that it feels like an empty grand ballroom, more functional than lovely. A very expensive monument for a part-time legislature.
Gary K — Google review
I visited on a Saturday, so parking was easy and there weren't a lot of people around. The building is very nice, but the rotunda was off-limits due to some construction.

Came here with my wife and we stayed in the lodge while her parents camped in an RV on the campground. This place is really great and beautiful scenery abounds. The hiking is great too, and even a bit more challenging than I had expected. Make sure you do the Dobbin House loop, it’s a good 5 mile hike.

Falls were nice. Water level in the river was low due to low rain this summer. Well maintained path and stairs to access the falls. The Lodge was clean and the staff was friendly. Smokehouse restaurant was adequate. Park is beautiful with well maintained roads. Stayed 3 days so was able to walk several trails. Well marked trails that are challenging for people who enjoy hiking.
James M — Google review
This stop was our two-day “play and reset” window between Acadia NP and New River Gorge NP — a quiet breather in the beautiful WV mountains. We stayed at the lodge and had breakfast there both mornings, mostly because options nearby are… well, nonexistent. Luckily the buffet was generous, the food was decent enough to fuel the day, and the views helped everything go down a little easier. Service, however, could definitely benefit from a hospitality tune-up — a smile and a bit of warmth go a long way before coffee! That said, the park itself is lovely. We enjoyed peaceful trails surrounded by lush forest, and the falls are truly worth the trip — dramatic and grounding. I got in a few good hikes, while my husband happily took in the waterfall views from the accessible paths, which are thoughtfully laid out and easy to navigate. In short: Beautiful park ✔️ Scenic lodge views ✔️ Buffet that gets the job done ✔️ Service that could caffeinate their cheerfulness ✔️😉 Perfect little nature pause before hitting our next national park. 🌲💧✨

This is a beautiful park! We went to the Blackwater Falls overlook. It is handicapped accessible and a beautiful view of the falls. If you can do steps, there are 2 trails to the falls, one has 1/3 fewer steps than the other. The friendly staff in the visitor center are more than helpful and can tell you where each begins. We ran out of time, so that was all we could there.

We walked the River Road Trail, which takes you from the town of Davis straight to Blackwater Falls. Across the trail, there is a ton of beautiful scenery, and streams. We’ve been visiting this state park for several years and didn’t know about this trail, I would recommend checking it out!

A beautiful park with fantastic views! There are various hiking trails that are not overly strenuous but high reward on the scenery, as well as some accessible trails too

This place is absolutely gorgeous! We decided to take our time on the way back from our honeymoon and stopped here to see the falls and state park, we were blown away by how beautiful it was, how up-kept the roads and trails were, and of course how amazing the falls were! It was so worth going out of the way for and we are so happy to have experienced this beautiful state!

Great place to visit from Richmond, DC and nearby areas. The trails are amazing with beautiful views. There is like 100 steps down to the falls which is easy hike and it’s a 60 foot water falls. There are also many campgrounds which you can book.

Great products at reasonable prices. The artist actually used the old Pilgrim Glass recipe to make the cranberry glass ball I purchased. They everything here, lots off great products, and the artist will demonstrate glass blowing techniques. We talked a long time about WV glass blowing. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in Weston.

“Fantastic Experience, Beautiful Glass!” I recently visited and purchased a glass bulb, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the entire experience. From the moment we walked in, the customer service was outstanding and friendly. The demonstration was excellent, showcasing how they made such a beautiful and elegant bulb. It was clear that great care goes into crafting this product, and the quality speaks for itself. The warm glow adds a beautiful ambiance to my space. I highly recommend visiting . A great purchase and experience overall!

Very sweet people! Watched an owner make blown glass balls. He did one in about a minute!! Cashier in gift shop was super nice and packed my purchase really well (all glass). I plan to take my grandkids when I’m back in that area

Enjoyed all the beautiful pieces on display. Mr. Chip Turner gave us a personal demonstration of blowing glass and the history of the art and of WV. Very welcoming atmosphere.

A lot of history here about glass production in the area and I think some glass factories had their own gas well to run the factory. Skilled glass workers making different glass ware ,vases etc.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, a former mental hospital in Weston, offers guided tours of its massive 150-year-old facility. The main building, made of hand-cut sandstone and stretching nearly a quarter mile, is the largest hand-cut stone building in the country. Various tours are available throughout the summer and fall months, including ghost tours and an overnight stay option. The asylum also hosts festivals and family-friendly events.
Did the Asylum After Dark ghost hunt of the three outer buildings for my birthday this past Saturday (9/27/2025) and I cannot say enough good things about it. Shea was an amazing tour guide and he even told us where to find the Lobotomy room in the medical building which was exciting. The medical building was definitely the creepiest out of the three outer buildings. My mother and I actually got scared out of there and didn’t go back in so we are glad it was the last building of our ghost hunt. The tour guides told us that it was probably Joker that scared us out since that is something that he likes to do. I highly recommend the ghost hunts at TALA! They are amazing and so much fun even if you don’t have any ghost hunting equipment. We will definitely be back, and we hope that we get Shea again!

I recently took the paranormal tour at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, and it was an unforgettable experience! The tour was incredibly informative, diving into the asylum’s haunting history with fascinating details about its past patients and eerie events. Our guide was fantastic—engaging, knowledgeable, and great at balancing spooky stories with historical facts, making the atmosphere both thrilling and respectful. The tour itself was a blast, blending creepy vibes with just the right amount of fun, as we explored the asylum’s shadowy halls and learned about its paranormal activity. Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, this tour is a must-do for its unique mix of history and chills. Highly recommend!

Great experience. Took my 15YO daughter on a day trip and she loved it. We took the 90 daytime paranormal tour. It covers all 4 floors and lots of information. Our guide (Kaylee) was wonderful. She new the historical side of the building along with paranormal facts. It's highly recommended anyone go see it. The only cautionary thing to be said it's cold in the winter, we went in the end of October on a 50° day and it was pretty chill in the building and I can only imagine it being hot in the summer. It's not climate controlled do dress accordingly and hydrate if you will be going in the summer.

My son and I visited on 11/2/25. We did the 4 floor tour with the medical center. Our guide (who I forgot her name but will add a pic to give her credit) was very informative and knowledgeable. I asked a lot of questions and she answered them all. Some of the stories were very frightening and some heartbreaking. It’s sad to think about what a lot of people went thru here. But it is nice to be able to visit and learn the history of this place. I’ve been wanting to visit for years and finally got the chance to. I was not disappointed! And this place is massive too! You really have no idea until you get inside. We loved it so much that we added the criminally insane tour after. We plan on coming back and touring some parts we missed. It’s very cold in the buildings so dress accordingly. And the price of these tours are extremely fair considering that all the money goes into the upkeep and restoration of this facility. Thank you for an amazing adventure! We’ll be back for sure!
Rebecca C — Google review
My husband and I went on the 4th floor tour and were very impressed! Our tour guide, John, was excellent! He spoke loudly and clearly, was very knowledgeable, and took plenty of time to answer all of our questions. The tour covered a good portion of the facility, and we had ample time to look around and take photos. Overall, it was a great experience and highly recommended! Please dress warmly if you visit during the cooler months. The tours are on the hour so we didn't have to wait long. We went on a Saturday and had 17 people in our tour.

I took a paranormal tour at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum and it was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, Kaylee, was fantastic — knowledgeable, friendly, and really brought the history and stories to life. Even on the day tour we experienced some activity, which made it even more thrilling. The atmosphere of the building is incredibly creepy in the best way possible — exactly what I was hoping for from such a historic and haunted location. Whether you’re into history, the paranormal, or just want a spine-tingling adventure, this place delivers. Highly recommend taking a tour here!
Ray M — Google review
Went on 3 tours. Nick, John and Kayley were extremely kind, knowledgeable about their tours and answered questions with ease. The building was clean, both bathrooms were clean and they welcomed both of our service dogs in with no problems. This location is animal friendly anyways which makes it much easier. The history is worth the money in itself. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful! I give it all 5 stars!!

We did the historical tour (Ashley was a phenomenal guide) and it was fascinating. The architecture, the stories, and the history packed into those walls are incredible. While everything was great, the cherry on top was meeting Pickle the opossum in the gift shop. He completely stole my heart. 💜

Swallow Falls State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Swallow Falls State Park is a hidden gem for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Nestled in a serene forest, this park features a scenic 1.2-mile trail leading to the stunning Muddy Creek Falls, where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of cascading waters. The park offers an array of recreational activities including biking trails, picnic areas, and well-maintained campsites that are perfect for family getaways.
Loved it here at Swallow Falls. We tent camped in the Garrett Loop. The site was quiet and there was easy access to the clean bathroom, water, and firewood. The trail was fun to hike, although it was definitely a physical challenge to get to the smaller waterfalls. Relatively short drive to deep creek state park. Would 100% stay here again.
Sydney R — Google review
This park offers 4 waterfalls. Although this is listed as ADA, only the muddy falls trail is ADA accessible. The trail leading to the other falls starts off very deceivingly flat. You are then greeted to stairs leading down to the first waterfall. Unfortunately we the little one in a stroller so we couldn’t go down to see it. We then thought we would proceed down the trail to the second waterfall only for the trail to become steeper and full of roots. Being optimistic, we continued down the bumpy path until we were stopped by large rocks. We pushed the stroller back up and walked the road back. We then found the muddy waterfall trail which was ADA accessible to view the top of the falls. However, if you wanted a nice photo at the bottom, you would need to take the steps down. So for the $10 parking fee, we were able to see the top of 1 waterfall. Might try the trail again once our little one can walk

The trail I mostly easy. Not crowded. The beginning and end are especially easy. I actually was a fan of it. Typically I'm not big on hikes because of my asthma and weak legs which I'm working on. But this was pretty nice. Relaxing too! I would actually do this trail again.

One of our favorite spots we visited this trip to Deep Creek. We went on a day where the temps were in the high 80’s but with the shade and mist coming off the waterfalls it wasn’t a problem. Ages 6-40 hiked with us and it was friendly for all ages. Some of the more steep hills can get slippery with rocks but overall it was a great trip. Plenty of shade and great sights.

My wife and I, (both senior citizen's) walked the trails between all the falls. It's about 2 1/4 miles all together. All the trails were well maintained and each scenic lookout provided beatiful views. We would highly recommend visiting this park.
Christopher T — Google review
One of my most favorite places to capture weddings and elopements. The trails are nicely marked and they have options for both a more scenic challenging hike as well as an easy trail option with handicap parking that puts you super close to Muddy Creek Falls. The staircase of various waterfalls here make for a full day of fun for sure. Just be mindful you are in nature, remember to leave no trace and that yes there are snakes and bugs, and larger fuzzy forests guests as well. Also if visiting make sure to wear the appropriate footwear, the rocks are slippery and the scenic trail has many rocks and tree roots and places where mud is a thing depending on time of year and rainfall. They offer the most lovely stone pavilion with dual fireplaces as well that is most perfect for smaller events, there is even a water pump nearby the pavilion, as well as restrooms. The restrooms are well, park restrooms and could always use some assistance in cleanliness but they aren't the worst I have seen either. Just remember it is a State Park, so it does close once darkness hits. They are mostly dog friendly, Memorial Day weekend they are not. That is something to keep in mind if you plan on visiting. Memorial Day weekend is usually super busy and packed and while parking is usually plentiful, that weekend.... not so much. Also to keep in mind, once the first week of October passes it is often chilly here. Pack some coats and wear warmer layering clothes. Deep Creek is also known for random snow even in late spring or early fall. So have options packed just in case and check the weather. Cell phone service in the park also isn't the best. Especially if you are visiting from outside the area and have Verizon as your cell phone carrier, make sure to pre download your google maps so you don't get lost.

Beautiful place for sure. Just wish it had more water. So glad I finally got to visit. A good 5 hours from home but well worth the trip! So serene, calm, quiet, and peaceful. Well managed. ❤️

I havent been to swallow falls in 10 years. This summer i stayed at the campsites with a friend and it was great. Not too ocupied [intentionally planned]. The bridge to the 5.5 mile hike was closed, so we just followed the loop around back to the road. The day we left we went to the waterfalls and adventured on the rocks [make sure to have 3 points of contact.... no need for avoidable accidents]. Definitely planning more trips on the future. Always a good time at swallow falls.

Wisp Resort is a relaxed ski-in/ski-out destination that offers ski lessons, 2 golf courses, and various summer sports activities. It's a popular spot for skiing, tubing, and other winter activities. The resort also features fantastic dining options and is surrounded by antique stores and opportunities for boat rentals. Visitors can enjoy the excellent menu at DCs at Wisp Resort, with highlights such as the calamari appetizer.
Staff at check-in were superb. Very kind and helpful with information. Rooms are very outdated but still kinda cozy-ish? They could definitely use a remodel. Very odd lay out for the room and had a old Murphy bed. Obviously the HVAC was a little fun to adjust the perfect temperature. The room was clean and had a decent view. Our room also had some water damage (drop ceiling panels). Bed was comfortable but the thin blanket and flat pillows were kind of a drag. Obviously the location is nice, plenty of things to do and places to eat nearby. We were able to do the mountain coster, chairlift, and mini golf. Plenty of parking and had some nice fire pits outside. All in all we had a good stay but the room did not reflect the price in my opinion.
Austin C — Google review
The rooms are not shown on their website when booking. They are very outdated. I wish I had taken pictures but the couch in "sitting area" was ripped, there was a very old Murphy bed in that same space. When you come in the door the bathroom was immediately to the right, very small area with a small sink outside of shower and toilet area. Just past that a hole was cut into the wall where the mini fridge was. Walking down this "hallway" bedroom to the right and then sitting area. The hallway wasn't wide enough to get the cart down and the whole room was just weird. I did ask for a different room and the girl at the desk was great, she agreed the room was set up very weird. We never ask to be moved but she was accommodating. The breakfast was some eggs in a 1/2 size foil pan and some bacon. There were some other items but it wasn't appealing at all. We were there for a wedding weekend and I was not impressed with this well known resort. I wouldn't stay there again.
Shannon B — Google review
We stayed in August. We were under the impression it was a "year round resort" but the mountain coaster and other fun amenities weren't even open for most of our stay, which was not made clear at the time of booking. Rooms were lackluster, peeling paint, worn furniture, just blah. We paid $460 for the "book 2 nights, get 1 free" deal, but then we saw a promo later for $100/night which they would not honor. Staff were wonderful though. Next time we'll rent an Airbnb instead.
Laura S — Google review
It's a super 8 motel with an excellent view and activities. The area is beautiful, the town is charming. The lodge Itself is in need of renovation. Feels old and outdated, not in a rustic way either, more like a over used Ocean City hotel. And from what I can tell no room service. If you're in need of pillows, towels, blankets, anything. You have to go to the front desk and pick it up. One positive is the Pizza at the bar was kinda excellent.
Gary B — Google review
A Four Season Resort where the Mountain Coaster was "closed" on a Saturday evening though the website states 5. The ride service that was recommended, Candi, left us stranded after agreeing to pick us up. They picked 7 of us up in a pickup truck, and are not insured. Good location, but would not come back here.
Rebecca S — Google review
Room smelled like an old ashtray and musty. Shower walls were cracked and toilet was leaking. They advertise a hot tub which was apparently taken out years ago. We went to the hotel restaurant, The Last Chair, around 7:30 and we were told that they couldn’t serve us food. However they didn’t close until 8:00. By 7:30am the next morning, the construction crew had started concrete saws outside of our windows. Needless to say, this will be our last trip there.
Tristar09 B — Google review
We stayed here 10/6-10/7. Upon arriving to the resort, everything looked great and well decorated for fall. The check in desk and lobby was nice. We did not have a reservation, asked for a room and the resort said they had one available with a king and two smaller beds. No worries just my wife and I. Being a "3 bed" room it was a little costly but I'll figured if it was all they had it will have to do. Make our way through the resort "extremely outdated" we finally get to our room. I could not believe what we saw, very very outdated rooms. The king bed was a Murphy bed in the wall from at least the 80s. My wife looked at the other beds and said NO WAY for the price. Walked back down to the desk, kindly explained what we saw. They were kind of shocked when we said everything in that room was extremely old and outdated, heck we were scared to even sleep on the really old murphy bed. Not at all what we expected for the price and resort. Since we had been here before, previously we had a room with a fireplace. Kindly asked for one of those, it just needed to be checked before allowing us in. We were told by the desk that these rooms are typically a little more than we paid for the other room, but for the troubles they would take care of us. Once checked and given the key card we headed towards that way. All doors in the connecting hallways were closed and made you think you were going through doors you shouldn't be. Made it to the elevator to head to the room. No lights in the elevator, pitch black ride to our floor. Once in the room we find it to be more of what we would expect for the price paid. But still VERY outdated, dead bugs in all the lights. Dead bugs even in the painting case on the wall. Leather couch peeling everywhere. Clothing tags behind the blinds on the window seal (obviously not cleaned). Duct tape holding the AC cord to the carpet and wall in the bedroom. Whatever we had a room and we were exhausted. Dropped bags off to head down to their bar/restaurant to get some food. Wife ordered water (came out smelling horrible and tasting worst) Wife could not drink it. Bar tender came back over and said water smell bad? My wife said yes and then the bartender admitted it has been a issue! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? We ordered brussel sprouts wrapped in bacon and candied, all of it came out pretty much Raw and 0 candied on it. Bar tender looked and said on my yeah this isn't correct. Went back and sprinkled sugar on it, I feel put it in the microwave and then brought it back out. Wife could not eat it. We were done at that point. Left to take a walk around the property. Mini gold fountains running but was not open to play. Maintenance building area which you have to walk through to get to the mini golf. My lord I have seen abandoned farm houses look in better shape than this building. After this we left to go visit the town, which we come every year. Come back to go to sleep. Pull the covers back and find a large stain in the sheet.... At this point my wife slept in her clothes and we couldn't wait to leave in the morning. Morning checkout I mentioned all the dead bugs to the desk, she just said oh what room? I will make sure we take a look. Got the feeling she could care less... So we will never be staying here again sadly. We have stayed here before and not had any issue but it has slowly gotten worse and worse. Wisp I hope you all can figure out what is going on and get it turned around. Such a nice looking resort from the outside. Time to start updating.

The staff is very nice but under trained. The hotel rooms are not kept well. Most of the place still needs remodeled. Location is very good a lot of good restaurants and nice and close to the lake so I guess it’s all depends on what you’re looking for don’t expect five star And you won’t be disappointed.

My fiancé is WVU generational alumni. A few years ago, after moving back to the East Coast, we started to attend one football game a year. The stadium is super clean; food is decent and the price for concessions is extremely affordable compared to other stadiums. So much fun. High entertainment. We love our little annual tradition on visiting the beautiful campus and stadium.

Absolutely love it here on game day! No better place to be. And singing country roads after a win is the best tradition in college football. Polymath Park - Frank Lloyd Wright Overnight

Historical landmark
Tours
Complex of mid century houses, including 1 designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, plus dining & tours.
A very enjoyable trip for architecture fans, especially of Frank Lloyd Wright. An entire village dedicated to preserving unique works of residential architecture. The tour includes 4 homes and hopefully more in the near future. The Tree Top restaurant is quaint and the staff is friendly. The guides are so knowledgeable they can answer nearly every question. The homes are a stunning example of mid-fifties to early 1960s work. Most with original appliances too. Highly recommended.
Brian M — Google review
I visited Polymath Park last October and it was an unforgettable experience. The house tour was absolutely stunning and inspiring. The architecture, history, and design details are breathtaking. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and really brought Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision to life. Before the tour, we enjoyed wine at the Tree Tops Bar, which added the perfect touch to the day. Everything was well organized, welcoming, and exceeded expectations. I can’t recommend this experience enough. It’s a must-see for anyone who loves architecture, design, Frank Lloyd Wright, history, preservation, or simply a beautiful day out.

We learned that the property owner saved and moved Frank Llyod Wright homes to the Park. This means that you are able to visit and stay in 2 FLR homes and two other FLR style homes. The park could be described as Disney World for FLR fans! We only visited the 2 FLR homes but wished we visited them all. The tours were quick and nicely paced. We weren't overwhelmed with information that we will never remember while wishing we could sit down somewhere. The tour begins at the welcome center which has restrooms and a restaurant. There are Tesla destination chargers available at no charge. There is a 5th home in the works that has yet to be reassembled (the homes are moved from their original location to Polymath Park in shipping containers). We will be back to visit the newest home when it is finished.

We went to PA to see 3 locations of Frank Lloyd Wright houses. Polymath Park was a superior tour. Robert was our guide and since he helped move the houses he had great insights! We had a great tour and I bet the treehouse restaurant is great but we did not eat there nor did we spend the night at any at the houses.

Visited Polymath Park October 2025 and did the Complete Collection Tour. This is the tour of two homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and two homes designed by one of his students/apprentices from Taliesin. The two Frank Lloyd Wright designed homes were originally built in Minnesota and Illinois, but deconstructed, moved to this site, and reconstructed to preserve them. All four houses are unique in their own way and all very interesting/enjoyable to see. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job. Very enjoyable day and fits in well if you are planning to visit Fallingwater.

We booked an overnight stay at Polymath Park in the FLW Mantyla house for our anniversary. We started our weekend visiting Falling Water, & Kentuck Knob before our stay at Polymath Park. At the parks Treehouse Restaurant we booked a twilight dinner in one of the treehouses. They added all the special touches for our dining experience that truly made it special for the occasion. As a lover of FLW and architecture, I highly recommend staying in one of the homes in the park. We did the tour of all four homes before we left and the overnight stay is well worth the experience.

My husband and I enjoyed a beautiful in delicious dinner in the Treetops private treehouse. We loved it. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was off the charts. We loved it so much we signed up for one of their dinner tours.

You can tell Tom, the owner, truly values architecture and taking care of FLW homes. He has moved and restored these homes (Duncan, Mantyla) to the original blueprints and they are beautiful examples of FLWs work. Robert the tour guide is awesome. You can tell he really loves what they're doing at Polymath Park and he is incredibly knowledgeable beyond some other FLW himes we've toured. I highly recommend the 4 house tour. We'll be going back when they rebuild FLWs son's home, Bird Wing, there in a few years!
