WEDDING REVIEW. We had our dream wedding here and it was absolutely perfect for us! We are so happy we chose Zaca Mesa!! Big Thanks to Jake!
Arly M — Google review
One of the best decisions we made for our wedding was getting married at Zaca Mesa Winery. We instantly fell in love with how remote it is and how you truly feel like you are surrounded by nothing by nature. It’s set back from the street so we didn’t have to worry about cars zooming by like at other venues. Between the vineyards, the oak trees and spring/summer poppies, the setting is absolutely picturesque. Not only is the venue stunning but the staff, especially Tara Creighton are top notch. It was important for us to be able to connect with the staff and Tara did an amazing job of working with us and helping to manage the event on the day of. She truly went above and beyond and we are so very thankful for all her help. Zaca Mesa was very flexible and catered to our specific desires and vision. The site fee was very reasonable and it allowed us to spend money on other details like live music vs paying a fortune for just the venue. Another one of our favorites things about Zaca Mesa and arguably one of the biggest factors in our decision, is their wine. The wine is delicious and being able to choose between both Tread and Zaca Mesa wines allowed us to have the variety that we were looking for. Our overall experience with Zaca Mesa was incredible. We are grateful for the memories we made there and for all the incredible staff that helped to make our day perfect. If getting married in wine country is your dream, check out Zaca Mesa, it will not disappoint.
Angelina S — Google review
The woman that helped us was completely inept. We told her at the beginning what type of wine we liked and she gave us everything but. We finally settled on a wine after four tiny tastings, and then she told us she would have to charge us for a tasting. Really sad because we used to like their wines but now that they’ve sold out would never go back. Really bad wines and incompetent pours. The one that helped us was completely snobbish. I have no idea why it’s not exactly a snobbish type Winery you lost a major customer because I’m a member of multiple wineries in the valley..
Joulie M — Google review
Beautiful quiet landscape the enjoy wonderful wine! The wines were surprisingly flavorful, and the staff was very friendly and attentive.
Elizabeth E — Google review
I came here one gorgeous spring afternoon with my parents for a wine tasting and BYOB picnic. They have seating outside where you can bring your picnic and they will bring the wine tasting series to you. We all opted for the red tasting flight because Zaca is really known for its syrahs. The wines are superb and the woman serving us was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the wines, it was such a treat. It is really a wonderful experience and we all came out buying several bottles. The property is absolutely stunning and really worth a visit.
Michelle K — Google review
Dog friendly winery, we had a lot of fun here. Plenty of parking, clean bathrooms. They had free wifi but no cell phone reception. Not a lot of seating inside, tons of patio seating. We were very happy with everything we had here.
Steven E — Google review
Good wines and nice property. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We did a red tasting flight and they brought the wine outside to where we were sitting. After the tasting, we ordered a bottle to have with our picnic lunch, which they encouraged. If I recall correctly, buying $70 worth of wine waives the tasting fee.
Carrie K — Google review
Safe, safe, safe. You're required to wear a mask when not seated at your table and 1 memberofyour party is allowed in the main building at a time. Dog friendly, great staff, and great wine.

Was surprised to find out that the owner of the winery is the owner of LV Golden Knights (Go Kings Go). Really enjoyed the views from the tasting room and the wines that were presented to us. Ben, our server was considerate and a pleasure to talk to. He really informed us of all the by-products and flavors that were incorporated into each one of the wines 🍷. Along with Ben, the rest of the staff were friendly as well. It was a pleasure stopping in.

Firestone Vineyards offers a timeless experience that transports visitors to a bygone era. Walking in is like stepping into history dating back to the early 20th century, where the estate exudes the charm and character of California’s winemaking legacy, an atmosphere that recalls the days of Henry Ford and Ronald Reagan. Situated on an expansive 400+ acre property, the vineyard is a visual marvel, with meticulously maintained vines stretching as far as the eye can see. The landscape is absolutely picturesque and timeless! Each wine in the tasting lineup revealed a distinct personality. Ranging from well balanced, fruit forward expressions to more complex, oak aged varietals with excellent structure, the craftsmanship behind every pour was evident, showcasing both terroir and technique. The hospitality was equally top notch. The staff demonstrated deep knowledge of the history, wine and had genuine warmth to tailor the experience to every guest’s glass. Firestone Vineyards is a standout destination in Santa Barbara wine country and a highly recommended stop for anyone seeking both exceptional wines and a taste of California’s viticultural heritage. I highly recommend paying a visit to this historic landmark!
Hosh — Google review
We decided to drive along Foxen Canyon Road to see all the vineyards in Santa Maria's valley. If you are looking for a wine tasting, you are spoilt for choice. We stopped at Firestone Vineyard and we were very impressed with the wine and the hospitality. The staff was friendly, attentive and clearly knew so much about wine. They explained every little detail about the tasting notes, the history of the place and their approach to wine making. I was blown away by the quality and variety of wine across California.
Álvaro M — Google review
Beautiful vineyard and tasting area. Comfortable chairs, shade, live music, delicious wines. A cork tree to touch. Very relaxing
Cigal S — Google review
We went to three different wine tasting locations and by far this one was different. It was a 109 degrees outside so indoors was our only option. I did not expect to be seated in the back area with the barrels. It was amazing experience. They had a live dj playing vinyl music and they were raffling off some merchandise. We brought our own cheese and crackers. They provide you with chilled water and the service was great. We will definitely come back here. Thank you Firestone Vineyard ❤️
Vic A — Google review
Sebastian was great! If you know what you like, or even if you dont, he's got the right wine for you. Very attentive, knowledgeable and super personable. Thanks for the great experience!!
Mark P — Google review
Worth a stop! Almost skipped this one since it’s the first down the vineyard trail but glad we went in. The inside is medium size with no seating just standing at the tasting counter, worked for me but some of the family grew restless. Beautiful views of the Los Olivos valley and great wine.
Kathryn C — Google review
The entire staff is incredible. The wine is equally great. Been coming here since the early 90’s.

The staff members are incredibly friendly and helpful, enhancing the overall experience for visitors. The wine was delightful, and the service was excellent. Our recent pickup party was fabulous, with plentiful food, ample wine tasting, and delicious desserts.

Great spot for wine tasting. Beautiful landscaped gardens, comfortable spacious outside seating area. Brilliant wine flight. Our host Thomas was great, friendly and knowledgeable.
Spencer R — Google review
Had a wonderful time at the vineyard with my wife for our 5th year anniversary. We had the pleasure of having Cody take care of us. He was awesome and I know that Fess would have been proud of the passion he had for this beautiful place.

Love Fess Parker Winery! Such an amazing place in a beautiful area. The staff is great and love all the Davy Crockett nostalgia around the venue. It’s a beautiful place to sit, relax and sip some of their amazing wines! Joined their wine club after my first visit! Also don’t forget to check out the Fess Parker Country Inn, it’s gorgeous in a great area! 5 🌟
William H — Google review
Super dog friendly! Can be inside with AC or outside. Tastings $25 or $35 for non-members. Big grass area to picnic or for pet relief. This is a great spot to have a chill wine tasting session with friends. No food except a cheese board.
Alex K — Google review
Celebrated a friend's birthday here in picnic area. What a wonderful property. Highly recommended. Enjoy wine tasting in the stylish building or the relaxing patio. Beautiful grounds to stroll or take a guided horse tour of the 700 acre property set among rolling hills dotted with pastures and small ranches.
Martin M — Google review
From the moment we arrived, the staff made it abundantly clear that we were unwelcome. Rude, dismissive, and utterly lacking in hospitality, we were curtly informed that because we didn’t have a reservation, we’d be relegated to the “dirt area” quite literally a dusty patch of land with worn, splintered picnic tables that looked like they hadn’t seen maintenance in years. Never mind that there were plenty of empty tables in the nicer seating area we weren’t even offered an option. Out of curiosity (and frustration), I checked online while we sat in the dirt and discovered that reservations were wide open for the entire day. So I made one. Immediately. When we returned to the front to inform the young woman at the host stand, her attitude only worsened. Instead of correcting her mistake or offering a polite apology, she acted as if our very presence was a burden. No smile, no welcome, just a cold shoulder and a forced gesture toward a now-acceptable table. We should have walked out then, and frankly, we regret not doing so. We ordered a bottle of wine which, when finally brought to the table, was already opened. The server didn’t say a word, didn’t offer a tasting or pour, just dropped the bottle and disappeared. In a region overflowing with outstanding wineries, this place stands out for all the wrong reasons. Skip it. Spend your time and money at an establishment that values guests rather than treating them like an inconvenience.
Jerry H — Google review
Great ambiance. Service was excellent (thanks Cody). Highly recommend to stop by, taste some good wine, and if you like, learn bit about Fess' career in Hollywood.

Sights & Landmarks
Old Mission Santa Ines, founded in 1804, is a historic Spanish mission located in Solvang, California. It has withstood natural disasters and periods of neglect but continues to operate as an active parish church and museum. Named after Saint Agnes of Rome, the mission offers guided tours through its museum, church rooms, and garden via an audio tour.
We walked here right at opening time on a Sunday. Unfortunately, the church was closed due to renovations, but the person in the gift shop said that we were allowed to wander around the premises. The backdrop of this mission is gorgeous with green Hills and a stations of the cross area that people can walk around. We had a really nice time walking around and enjoying the surroundings.
Jeff Y — Google review
This is my 2nd time to visit Solvang and the Mission. This time we had more time to explore it and walk through the stations of the cross. We also found out that there is a rose garden here. I think most of the Missions have rose gardens so you better check it out. They have really interesting rose varieties. The Mission sells souvenir items, rosary beads, postcards and pendants too. We found a quiet place and sat in one of the benches facing the fields. It was a nice place to visit.
Belle — Google review
First time visiting Santa Ines Mission. The chapel was under construction and closed. The entire property is beautiful. The views are stunning and breathtaking. Everything is well maintained and clean.
Yessica R — Google review
I have seen this in the day. But the night is a different story. speechless to walk it in silence at night is breathtaking.
The W — Google review
Like most of the mission on the Camino Real (Royal Road) in California this one centers on a sizable Adobe Church and a small religious community with old shady trees and grapevines. Unfortunately, it has been under major renovation for quite some time and it is impossible to look inside of the structure except a peak from the door if you buy a ticket. Seems hardly worthwhile to buy a ticket just to peek in the door. It would be far more productive if they could offer a nice explanatory pamphlet or signage along with a brief entrance to the area that is not being heavily worked on just so visitors could get a real feel for the place.
D G — Google review
They have catholic mass here in the morning and it was a nice experience. The view and ambiance of the area is perfect. The place is quiet and has a lot of parking spot. A must visit here in solvang. Gift shop is a bit pricey but its fine donation for the church.
Tap N — Google review
Cozy, lovely church. They have a tour from what I hear.
Chi N — Google review
Beautiful old church. Glad I stopped by. The surrounding area is beautiful as well, it has great views of the landscape. There are many rooms that have artifacts and information, so plan to spend some time here appreciating everything if you are interested in this kind of stuff.

Sunstone Winery is a picturesque French villa-inspired winery with a lavender-filled courtyard and wine caves for tastings. The property offers a tranquil and spacious outdoor area, perfect for enjoying their wines. Visitors can wander through the 18th-century stone farmhouse and explore the cool hillside cave where wine barrels are stored. The winery also boasts multiple tasting sites, an outdoor patio, and picnic areas.
This was a really beautiful winery with a nice patio area and beautiful buildings surrounding it. We got there right at 11 AM when it opened, and this was the start of their Sunday events where they have live music. By 1 PM, it was pretty packed and very happening. Our server was Gladis, and she was very knowledgeable and friendly and we really enjoyed chatting with her. Overall, we had a great experience and we would definitely come back if we’re in the area again.
Jeff Y — Google review
We went here because they’re pet friendly and it’s close to Solvang. This is my second time here. It’s a nice, relaxing place with lots of space! We did the wine tasting for 30$ for 8 tastes. Nothing really stood out to me so we didn’t buy anything, but we enjoyed the space. Service was really good and Isaac was super professional and courteous.
Duyen T — Google review
As a wedding photographer, I absolutely love working at Sunstone. The light in the courtyard at golden hour is magical, and the staff is always so accommodating with vendor teams. Every couple I’ve photographed here has had a seamless and beautiful experience. Looking forward to capturing more weddings here with Heather Wang Photography!

First of all this is Diane Tiller writing this review. Not Matt Tiller (he is my husband but was not present) I visited Sunstone on Sunday August 24th 2025. With my Sister, her husband and their son, my nephew. We were celebrating my Mothers Birthday 🎉 and also celebrating her life. My Mother was a huge fan of Sunstone and had lived in the valley for a long period of her life. So it was a perfect way for us to have the closure and celebrate her at this beautiful location, that she loved so much. However, the best part of Sunstone was your tasting room associate Andrea Coronado!!!!! She was absolutely AMAZING! She was so kind, sympathetic , and honestly unbelievable…. I honestly can’t tell you how amazing she was. I really hope you take great care of her, she is one of a kind. Sincerely with all my love from South Carolina, Diane Tiller

What an awesome Winery to visit. They have Vineyards, gathering area for groups at tables, live music, great selection of wines to choose from. The open seating area was fantastic to enjoy a delicious beverage of choice, relax and enjoy. We took a a tour of the winery itself and it's very fascinating, we saw the machines that press to grapes and were educated on the different types of grapes and how weather plays a factor on the finished grape and thats why some years are better than other years with the same grapes. This helped us choose the best bottle of wine based on our tastings.🍷 We had 4 bottles shipped back to Indiana and we opened a Merlot for dinner the other evening and it took us back to California. P.S. the drive there is Beautiful
Steve D — Google review
Fabulous wines (which also happen to be organic = extra fabulous), with an even better atmosphere! This picturesque venue never disappoints! They allow you to bring outside food, so pack your cheese and crackers, or a full-blown picnic, and enjoy a bottle of wine in the beautiful courtyard. Suggestion: start in Los Olivos (just a few miles up the road, and a cute little wine town) and pick up sandwiches from Panino to cap an afternoon at Sunstone. As a side note, my girls would say that it is very "Gram-able".
Michael R — Google review
Best experience. We did the wine tasting, plus some glasses of wine, and hung out here all day. Nice large space and easy atmosphere. You can bring your own snacks like we did, grab a little cheese board or sandwich from Gandolfo market before you go. Also definitely get a reservation, he showed up around noon with reservation and overtime witnessed a line forming. They also had a food truck and a team slanging pizzas from 4 Ooni ovens. Take a moment to watch the goats and sheep in the parking lot

Serene stretch of coast & picnicking spot with a snug, basic campground & scenic views.
What a great beach. They have a campground. It was very clean. You can fish, surf, swim, etc. We had a great time.
Tracy P — Google review
Had a great time with my family, but I do have to warn you about the showers and restrooms. The showers take tokens for warm water. There's only 1 machine on each side of the lake for both bathrooms. They only take card. Next are the restrooms, no soap or anything to dry your hands with. Be sure to bring your own every time. And to be on the look out for the sparrows above you as you go to the restroom. There's piles of poop under them for a reason. Besides that, the close proximity to the beach and the relative quietness of the other campers make it a great place to camp. The views and the sounds of the ground squirrels during the day and the racoons at night make each day a adventure of its own. Don't forget to read about the beaches history with New Spain!

Last weekend I tried out 3 Hike and Bike locations ( Refugio, Carpinteria and Leo Carrillo) around Santa Barbara. Refugio is the closest to the beach and an optimal location right next to the beach but it is also next to the kids playground.

Incredibly scenic campground. Hiker biker spots for $10 a night right by the beach! Water was perfect. Only complaint is the lack of outlets for charging.

Great place to spend Halloween! Very well-maintained campground. Bathrooms are clean and have plenty of toilet paper. There are tons of birds - we saw blue jays, woodpeckers, hawks, crows & eagles. Rangers patrol every hour, and campsites are spaced apart so you have privacy. It gets windy and misty at night so bring layers! I recommend renting a pontoon boat 🛥️
Isabella L — Google review
The lake is full thanks to the winter rains. Newer docks and pontoon boats to rent. Great family activity and fishing for trout and bass. One of my favorite places in SB County.
Tom S — Google review
Beautiful lake with clear water and surrounded by green hills. We stopped here for about 30 minutes and hiked down from the parking lot all the way to the water. Located in the valley, there are numerous little streams that bring rain water from the hills into the lake. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
Sandeepa D — Google review
Wonderful spot for camping. Entry fee is only $10 per vehicle. The place is equipped with almost everything a camper needs. Rest rooms, playing areas, gas station, restaurant & grocery store. Recreation is also available with fishing tools & boat rentals. Great place for RV campers with spacious parking areas. Whether you are only spending a day or staying overnight for camping, the scenery & ambience @ the lake is wonderful. April to July I'd say are the best months to camp there

Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area 👍👍 If you’re heading to Solvang from Santa Barbara, most likely Google maps will direct you to take CA- 154. It’s a scenic route and you’ll see the lake on the right side. There is an entrance fee but since I wasn’t really staying for a long time, I really appreciate the ranger who gave me a short time pass just to see the water and the facilities; so that was a really courteous gesture. There are multiple campsite areas, a landing dock for boats, ample parking, convenience store, gas station and there’s one restaurant by the lake.

Beautiful Lake with Wild Peacocks. My family has been coming here for Generations. Remember you are on Native Land be respectful. Don't drive fast, and be mindful of sound pollution. Loop hiking trail is incredibly beautiful and majikal. It's a nice place for a day trip, camping and hiking. During Covid-19 the Lake is not open to the public for swimming or water play. Boating for SB and S Firefighters crew is all that is currently allowed. Remember in this space Nature is all that Matters, not you Humans so don't leave any trash or waste. And if you have any pets pick up after them. No-one wants your dog feceus in their camping space so be respectful. Take back anything your brought in. This is a State protected space so there are plenty of restrooms, fire pits, grills and resources. Gas station and general store. Respect. Protect. Be intentional. You are on Native Land. Leave the animals alone your in their Home.

Arroyo Burro Beach County Park, also known as Hendry's Beach, is a popular oceanfront destination in Santa Barbara. It's beloved by locals for its dog-friendly policy and amenities like dog-washing stations. The park offers a picturesque stretch of sand where visitors can sunbathe, swim, surf, and even whale watch. With grassy areas for picnicking and on-site grills available, it's an ideal spot for outdoor gatherings with family and friends.
Great place! Very good for families with kids. There are bathrooms, beach showers. The park has picnic area, grills, place for games. Left side of the beach allows dogs. There is a self service dog wash. It has a beautiful overview (the stairs to it are behind the restaurant). The restaurant is pretty good with indoor and outdoor seating with good view. Free parking. During high season might be difficult to find a parking spot.

Very nice dog Beach. You can keep walking south for miles to find beautiful desolate beaches and caves. Dogs are able to be off leash. Parking is limited though so you have to get lucky to find a spot if arriving after the morning. There is a cool look out spot at the top of the stairs. That's where I took my pictures. I would highly recommend this place.

Love this dog beach — we come here often! Great space for dogs to run and swim, and the vibe is always friendly. Only downside: sometimes there’s oil tar on the sand, so be ready to clean paws after. Still one of our favorite spots!
Maciej F — Google review
One of our favorite beach spots. Dog friendly, leash free on the south beach, great walking with the occasional hang glider to entertain you. Restaurant is pricy but good. Parking can be tricky.

Beautiful beach, we sat and saw dolphins going up and down. Great waves for body boarding, I tried body surfing lol Nearby parking and restaurant (awesome burger btw 🍔) plus a reasonable free public WC

Love this beach! There's an off leash area where they can play in the surf, and an easy to use washing station near the overflow parking to get all the salt off. Everyone was very responsible and friendly!

Dog heaven. My dog starts to cry as we pull into the parking lot because he’s so excited for this place! Have only experienced friendly people and wonderful dogs off leash.

Love this beach! It’s a DOG beach Y’all! Off-leash dog heaven where they can play in the surf and chase birds and play with other dogs. Be mindful of your dog(s). It’s open ocean out there. It’s fabulous and they have dog washing stations in the parking lot! Perfection 😎

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is a renowned living museum and member of the American Alliance of Museums, dedicated to preserving and showcasing California native plants. The garden features 5.5 miles of paths, an authentic Japanese tea garden, and a redwood grove. It stands out as more than just a beautiful space with pretty flowers, offering collections-based research and educational opportunities for visitors.
I cannot believe how wild, extremely beautiful, silent and spiritual this place is. With the little creek running through stepping stones, so many hidden corners where you can sit and enjoy the view on the mountains or the ocean… and then the people working in the Botanic Garden are all so sweet! I absolutely loved it and could have wandered for many more hours in this lovely “garden” which feels like a magic place of its own ❣️ from the garden I walked down to the Old Mission, easing myself into the lived world again 😇 oh and how lucky was I : the poppies were blooming!
Ellen D — Google review
The Santa Barbara botanical garden was a nice garden that showcased many of the local plants and species that are native to the area. The meadow was the most beautiful part of the garden and was really enjoyable to walk through. There were many other nice places to walk through but I didn’t feel that they compared to the meadow. Overall, we were happy we came here but likely wouldn’t return a second time.

Such a fun garden! 🌸🌿 It’s definitely different from others I’ve been to—super unique and full of surprises. There’s a bit of hiking involved 🥾 so be prepared—we went in dresses and didn’t know 😅 but still had a great time! I loved how it changes atmospheres as you walk through 🌲🌼, and there are hidden gems throughout that are perfect for kids to explore 🧚‍♀️🔍. Even though one area was closed when we went 🚧, it was still a beautiful and peaceful place to visit 💖🌞. Great for a little adventure and nature time!
Cat C — Google review
This is a nice place to visit if you have 2 hours to spare. The garden highlights native California fora. Most of the paths are unpaved and comfortable shoes are a must. I loved the little creek with the stepping stones.
Susanna S — Google review
This garden is primarily only California-native plants, which is cool. They have redwoods, a torey pine, and lots of plants from the Channel Islands. The bathroom at the island lookout was the cleanest and we were able to see Santa Cruz Island in the distance. The gift shop/nursery was nice and the staff at both the gift shop and nursery were very helpful.

Nice garden and everything is walking distance. The drive there was awesome as well. Most people don't do Tipton trail but it worth it for the view. See photos.
Leon P — Google review
Just visited the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, and it’s a chill spot for a nature fix! This place is a smaller garden, but it’s got some solid hiking trails and cool streams weaving through. When we went, not a ton of flowers were popping off—only a handful in bloom—but the pine trees and natural vibes made up for it. The landscape feels super serene, and you can check out some Spanish mission ruins from the 1800s right in the garden, which is a neat little history bonus. It’s not packed with stuff to see, but it’s perfect for a relaxed walk in nature. Plus, it’s not far from the Old Mission, so you could pair the two for a day trip. Oh, and pro tip: if you’ve got an LA Arboretum membership, you get in free! Definitely worth a stroll if you’re in the area.

Mission
Sights & Landmarks
Old Mission Santa Barbara, founded in 1786, is a historic Spanish mission located on the California coast. The church, built in 1820, is known for its double-bell facade and holds religious services. Visitors can explore a museum showcasing artifacts and objects from the mission's history. The site also includes lush gardens with ocean views, a cemetery, mausoleum, and aqueduct ruins.
Old Mission Santa Barbara is definitely a must visit if you are in Santa Barbara. Lots of history and beautiful artifacts to see. The mission is well kept and maintained. The gardens were nice and the cemetery was interesting. They have several points throughout the inside and outside with QR codes that you can scan for more information or brief history of certain things. We did the self guided tour for adults, which was $17. They gave us a map which was easy to follow. Very pleasant experience. Would recommend.

We visited the Old Mission Santa Barbara and really enjoyed it! The grounds were clean and well kept. Although we didn’t take the paid tour inside, walking around outside was still very pleasant and peaceful. The gift shop had lots of cute souvenirs to browse, and we especially liked strolling through the olive tree garden. It was a perfect sunny day for a visit!

Always a lovely time at the Mission. I'm born and raised in Goleta/Santa Barbara and I have so many fond memories of this incredible Mission. It's always so peaceful and everyone in the public seems to be as respectful as they can here! Really wish that it could be that in the whole town, but it's a start!! Also, there's so many angels to take amazing photos or to have a picnic on the adjacent lawn.

Old Mission Santa Barbara is a beautiful and historically significant place that’s well worth a visit. The elegant architecture and peaceful gardens create a special atmosphere, and the museum provides interesting insights into California’s past. The chapel is charming and adds to the sense of tradition and heritage. Fans of classic television will also recognize this location — many exterior scenes from the iconic Santa Barbara series were filmed here. A must-see spot that combines history, culture, and a touch of nostalgia.

Stayed in Santa Barbara for a while right by the mission. Got the chance to not only bask in the beauty of the gardens and Santa Barbara weather, but enjoyed seeing local artists compete in a chalk art contest. I mean, I struggle to draw a stick figure so I was blown away by the talent. Also love seeing a community get locals together. Highly recommend stopping by and hoping you’re lucky enough to enjoy some local artists compete there as well!
Justin M — Google review
Very pretty mission well maintained. 250 years old. Tour works well with audio guide. We spent over an hour on the tour. Nice exterior grounds that have a picnic area also.
Mike S — Google review
The mission is impressive, but the $18.00 per person ticket price is steep in my opinion, this is the only mission where we’ve encountered such outrageous ticket prices. We visited because this is the last of the missions we needed to see to have visited them-all. The church and grounds are beautiful but we thought it was odd that in the missions historic rooms there was an exhibit about sea life but not about the mission? Mission La Purisima in Lompoc was so much better at explaining and experiencing the history of the mission and life at the mission, and it was free.
Kevin A — Google review
This was on my must visits while in Santa Barbara. The history and amazing buildings. We came on in on Monday right in time for the last self guided tour. There was a padre there to ask questions which was more than I thought. We were able to view the gardens, church; cemetery and view some info inside what looks like a museum. The cemetery was very interesting. Mausoleums with turn of the century inhabitants. We went through the little gift store and then walked over to the olive tree area with the stations of the cross. I love seeing the pictures of when the building was first built. It’s amazing g to see that there was nothing else around but now homes and parking lots. Great view of the ocean.

Sights & Landmarks
The Superior Court of California County of Santa Barbara, also known as the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, is a historic 1929 tile-roof complex renowned for its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It is considered one of the most beautiful government buildings in America and draws thousands of visitors annually. The courthouse features the iconic Mural Room, adorned with a romanticized depiction of Santa Barbara's history by painter Daniel Sayre Groesbeck.
A must visit for sure. The grounds are beautiful. The mural room is amazing. Listen to the docent. Great information about the history of Santa Barbara. We took the stairs up to the clock tower. It’s a workout let me tell you. There is an elevator. The views from up there were amazing. At the top is a compass drawn on the floor. What I thought was west (toward the ocean) is not so. Hard to wrap your mind around it. Walk around. And the architecture is so pretty.

The Santa Barbara Courthouse is hands down one of the most stunning elopement and wedding locations I’ve ever photographed. The Spanish-style architecture, lush gardens, and warm California tones make it feel straight out of a fairytale. It’s elegant yet intimate, and there’s magic in every frame taken here. Highly recommend it for couples dreaming of a classic Santa Barbara celebration!
Erica P — Google review
Such a beautiful and historic gem! The Spanish Colonial architecture, tile details, and views from the clock tower are breathtaking. The courtyard and gardens are perfect for photos — especially weddings or quinceañeras. Definitely a must-see in Santa Barbara! It’s also walking distance to major shops at Old Town Santa Barbara. Be there on Saturdays when they close the streets so you can freely walk without the traffic.
Fred M — Google review
I’ve been to a lot of different cities and the last thing anyone recommends me to go checkout is the courthouse. When I read online that the Santa Barbara courthouse was a must while I was in town, I figured why not go and check it out. I did not know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by it all. I mean just from outside, it looked really different from the superior court of Los Angeles as it was a lot smaller, but what caught my eye was how antiquated the building looked. I liked seeing the big murals on the walls and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. I found it interesting that despite its older structure, it’s still in use. Walking around inside was a lot of fun but the highlight was the tower with views of the city and everything. You can take an elevator or go up the stairs to get there. One other thing that really stood out to me about this place was the gardens right outside. There was a lot of people taking photos there or just hanging out on the lawn. I mean, they are really beautiful and well kept and seem like a great place in town to hang out and kill time. Also, the older woman at the information booth was really helpful. She narrowed down some activities for me to do while I was in the city and even recommended me places to go and eat food. She was sweet and took her time showing me a map of the city with all the points of interest. Give her a raise!
Gustavo J — Google review
Amazing views from the Clocktower and the Mural Room is a must see! There were a handful of weddings taking place so we also witnessed multiple brides and grooms coming and going, further adding to the scenery.

I visited the Superior Court of California in Santa Barbara and honestly didn’t expect it to be this interesting. The building itself is beautiful, clean, and full of history and character. It feels almost like a museum with how nicely everything is designed. You can walk around, explore different areas, and there’s always something to see — from the classic architecture to the peaceful courtyard outside. The atmosphere is calm and respectful but still open enough that you can really take in the space. It’s definitely worth visiting, even if you’re not there for official business. Super cool experience, I totally recommend checking it out.
Alexander V — Google review
This is the best tour spot in Santa Barbara downtown. The garden is very beautiful and we happened to see a wedding on that day. We also went to the top of tower to have a view from all 4 directions of the city, it seems that the tower is the highest point of the city. You'll need to pass a security check when going to the tower, so leave you guns behind you.
Ken X — Google review
Probably one of the most beautiful buildings you can find in this part of California. The architecture is so iconic of Spanish colonial times, but it looks even more impressive inside with the murals. Artistically, it is so impressive. You can visit it for free and spend as much time as you want. You can also go up the tower to get a 360 view of Santa Bárbara and the mountains.

What an incredible area to spend several hours meandering around all the restaurants, museums, coffee houses, and of course...all those gorgeous boats floating within the Harbor slips. We sure did! Nice job Santa Barbara!

Awesome little harbor, so many masts litter the skyline. Very calm and quaint area. We went to the maritime museum, everyone was very nice, the museum is small but has alot of cool info and exhibits, and 5 or 6 interactive stations that me and my 12 year found fun and interesting. Stearns Wharf is a must-visit destination in Santa Barbara, showcasing the charm of California's oldest wooden wharf still in operation. Nestled on State Street, this historic pier features an array of restaurants and shops, along with a small aquarium that delights visitors. As you stroll along the wharf, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the harbor and sandy beaches framed by the majestic Santa Ynez Mountains.
One of the must-visit places in Santa Barbara is Stearns Wharf. You can drive right onto the pier, and there's parking available. On the pier, you can try fresh seafood in local restaurants. It offers a stunning view of the ocean and the city - perfect for a walk and photos.

This is a good place to take a break and have a meal while driving along the west coast line. The location is like an island, you feel you're out of crowd of city. The parking is free, if you can find a spot. The restaurant is good, both service and food. The sea view makes you feel very relaxing when eating outside. Strongly recommended to drop by .

Stearns Wharf is in Santa Barbara. It's the oldest working g wharf in California. It was built in 1873. 2300 foot long. Yes it's that long, to allow ocean ships back then to tow up at low tide. John Peck "JP" Stearns opened a lumber yard in 1867 and needed a way to ship lumber. He got a backer, Colonel William Hollister, to help him finance and build the wharf. Fast forward to today, they have a restaurants, shops, bait & tackle shop, boat rides, and a Sea Center aquarium. The crazy thing about the wharf is that you can drive your car out onto it and park. The wharf acts as a parking lot too. Wild! We drove our car out there and parked. Parking is free for the first 90 minutes. $3 for each additional hour. There is a public restroom but it was a wet mess. A layer of water was on the ground as if they hosed it down. So if you are unsteady on your feet, precede with caution. Folks can fish off the pier. We saw a young man catch a thresher shark. Wow. The vibe of the pier was casual, even the eateries. Walk out to the furthest point and catch the 360 views. Beautiful! I bet the sunset is spectacular against the drop into the ocean's horizon.
Lillian — Google review
Stearns Wharf is the best. It may be one of the last wooden wharves in CA you can still drive out in. Over looking the harbor. There is a lot to do with restaurants to eat at from nicer sit down to fish and chips window ordering. There is a bunch to do with kids including the Sea Center or fishing off the end of the pier.
Justin E — Google review
Stearns Wharf of Santa Barbara is an historic destination that may be one of the most famous of piers on the California coast! The present day pier has been reconstructed since the original commercial wharf was developed in 1872 by John P. Stearns, with funding help from W. W. Hollister. Unlike other piers down the coast, this one is geared up for visitors, with signage, exhibits, memorabilia,, gift shops, restaurants, boat rides and of course restrooms. I enjoyed the views of the calm ocean as well as the overview looking back towards land. It seemed as tho wherever I stopped to take pictures, other visitors were also taking in the scene beside me! There’s easy access off the end of State Street, where public parking’s available. I found free street parking just south of the pier. There’s also more secure paid parking areas within walking distance. The pier is compatible with handicap access and convenience.
Jim K — Google review
Great pier, clean beach, ample parking right on the pier and free if you park for less than 90 minutes. Clean restrooms. Will definitely be back.

Santa Barbara Zoo is a charming and easily accessible 30-acre zoo with lush gardens that offer stunning views of the ocean, mountains, and Santa Barbara. Despite its small size, it houses an impressive collection of 500 animals from 146 different species. Visitors can enjoy a miniature train ride around the property to see all the animals on offer.
We had a blast taking our one-year-old granddaughter to the Santa Barbara Zoo. It’s a cozy, small spot, perfect for little ones like her. Despite its size, it’s packed with all the classic animals—parrots, lions, goats, giraffes, flamingos, and even elephants. She was enchanted! The zoo camp for kids seems super popular, and there are tons of fun activities. The train ride was a highlight—definitely worth the extra $8, though the $35 entrance fee and $11 parking add up. Food options are limited, mostly fast food and vending machines, but it didn’t dampen our day. It’s such a great spot for young kids, and our granddaughter absolutely loved it! Highly recommend for a sweet family outing.

We visited this charming destination as a family and had a great time! Entry costs $28 per adult and $18 per child, with an optional train ride inside the park for $7 per adult and $6.50 per child. The train station also features a cute train-themed shop that's worth checking out. 🚶‍♀️ Be prepared for some uphill and downhill walking—comfortable shoes are a must! The park offers stroller and electric wheelchair rentals, which is super helpful for families with young kids or anyone needing mobility support. 🍔 There are restaurants on-site where you can record classic favorites like burgers and fries, perfect for a casual lunch break. 🚆 We traveled from Los Angeles via Amtrak, and the station is just a 4-minute Uber ride from the park entrance. On the way back, we opted to walk—it's about 40 minutes, and a nice way to wind down after a fun-filled day. Overall, it's a pleasant spot for a family outing with a mix of nature, fun, and convenience. Highly recommend!

Nice sized zoo for younger kiddos. Enclosures were smaller but it's understandable for the size of facility. It was easy to walk and the train was fun as well. The conductor was very fun and knowledgeable. There was a fun play area for young kids for a break. We went during the week so I could see how on a weekend the parking would be difficult.

This was such a great visit. My boys loved it. We brought my son here for his birthday. It was warm but not unbearable, the workers were nice excluding the guy taking food orders. The guy taking food orders was rude, drab and not helpful. Its sad when my 10 yr old says he hates his job for sure. We went on 9-8 a Monday and it was practically empty. It was such a fun experience feeding the giraffe and 1 of them are pregnant. So fun. The train was such a fun experience too. My boys enjoyed their time today.

It was a wonderful day. In the past we ended up at SBZ and the crowd size was big. Too Big.. today was a nice size which made our experience awesome 👏👏👏 Quite honestly. The Zoo was designed for large crowds. SBZ does nothing for Seniors. Which is odd.. The staff was very nice. There were a few exhibits closed. We had a nice talk with a Keeper who specializes in Condors and Turkey Vultures. She was very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful..

The Santa Barbara Zoo is a great place to go with a family especially if you have kids. It’s not a large zoo but it is perfectly sized and organized for kids to have an amazing time. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of 'Island only' animals and stay overnight to experience the island's serene atmosphere after most tourists leave.
We had a great time exploring the sea caves on Santa Cruz Island. We stayed at the lower campground and kayaked for 2 days, both East and West of the pier. We also hiked the Montanon Ridge Trail up to Montanon Peak. Highly recommended activities.

Perfect for hiking and camping. Wide open area for hiking. Slight steep hills. Theres also kayaking available for rent. Boats leave 8am and 830am ventura marina for what i know. One hour trip to sta cruz. Theres no water for sale in the island so bring your own. Theres a water faucet in the campgrounds but im not sure if its drinkable. Bring food in case you get hungry through your hike. We packed sandwiches and hydration pack. And you cant leave any trash in the island. You have to bring your trash with you til you get back.

Fantastic escape off the coast of California. One of the most unique national parks in the country. Take a ferry from Ventura for a day trip or camping adventure that promises seaside hikes and carefully restored wilderness. We spent two days and two nights on Santa Cruz. Potato Harbor, Scorpion Rock Overlook, Smugglers Cove, snorkeling and kayaking are not to be missed!

Beautiful island in Channel Islands National Park. Most of the island is owned & managed by the Nature Conservancy. Hikers can get a permit to access this area. Island Packers provides boat service for visitors, but no private vehicles are allowed on the island. They can transport camping gear as well. Visitors can also visit using private boats. Prisoners Harbor has a good quality pier. I have not visited other areas. The island offers many trails, several picnic and camping areas and a few pit toilets. I would recommend getting the National Geographic topographical map before visiting. The island was used for ranching for over 100 years. National Park Service & Nature Conservancy are working hard to remove invasive species & to restore unique native species. It is not uncommon to spot native jays & island foxes & also bald eagles.

Abundant wildlife, lots of wildflowers. Beautiful shades of blue seen from the cliff tops and trails. More pelicans than I’ve ever seen. Peregrine falcons patrolling cliffs. Small tide pools near Scorpion Cove provide an easy activity while waiting for the boat, filled with sea anemones and crabs hanging about. Humpback whales seen on the way in, dolphins on the way out in the hundreds. Lovely manageable trails all around. Potato Harbor is a must.

This is a great island to explore as part of an expedition to Channel Islands National Park. Incredible cliffs here and beautiful vistas. The scenery is fairly dry, but there is beauty in the starkness, especially when contrasted with the sapphire blue of the oceans. Well developed trails and lots of opportunities for great views.

Everything from this trip was amazing! Starting from the boat ride out having a glass of wine and watching the dolphins swim. The hike wasn't bad, a bit rough at the beginning but the views were well worth it! The weather was perfect and seeing the ocean from atop a mountain was a life changing experience. I would suggest this trip to anyone. $50 for an experience of a life time

Carpinteria State Beach

Nature & Parks
Carpinteria State Beach, located in the coastal town of Carpinteria, California, is a popular destination for those seeking a relaxing beach experience. It is known for its safety as the waves break far from shore and the gently sloping bottom reduces the risk of rip tides. Families often gather here to enjoy the sun and serene atmosphere. The area also hosts the annual California Avocado Festival, featuring live music and a guacamole contest.
We used the RV park and it was fine. The spaces are tight and on asphalt. Our spot was too far away from the power to plug in without an extension chord. A great location and view. Remember to bring rubbing alcohol for the oil that you'll get on your feet and shoes.
Flat T — Google review
A great location close to the beach and walking distance to the city center. Some spots are very small, be Mindful when booking. We noticed that the rangers were approaching RV's not obeying to the quiet hours. Much appreciated. We did notice many dogs without a leash and dog poop at several places. This is against the park rules. Being more strict on this would have been appreciated by us.
Michiel T — Google review
We love this campground, can't get any closer to the beach that's for sure! Essentials nearby. Rv spots a little tricky if you got a 28ft trailer for a 30ft spot but we managed. Easier if moving in when it's not packed. Rangers were helpful after we reported our stolen electric bike. Unfortunately they said it happens often that transients by the creek come and steal your nice stuff! Ugh thieves! Take out the battery and lock up your bikes as close to your main entrance as possible. We locked the bike but left the battery in and they cut the lock and the bike along with the bike were gone! We'll someone got a sweet brand new electric bike for Christmas! We've been camping everywhere and never any issues with thieves. Guess there's a first time for everything. Have fun and be careful.

Beautiful state beach located within walking distance of downtown Carpinteria, great restaurants and low key beach town vibe. Day use parking fee $10, respectable restrooms, outside showers. Lovely dune boardwalk.
Loretta B — Google review
Really close, within 100 feet of a beautiful beach. Very nice. But the campsites are awful - basically the campsites are on a median between rows of cars parked right next to each other. Honestly, the ugliest campsite I've ever imagined.
Joe A — Google review
Our favorite beach! We've been coming here for almost 20 years. We love camping here, but it is difficult to get reservations. They have bathrooms and showers so bring your quarters. It is a laidback, safe, clean beach. Sad to see some of the shops like Robataille's closing.
Tiffany C — Google review
Got beach row in the San Miguel campsite. We were excited to have the beach view campsite but they replaced all the trees and ocean view with 3 foot tall bush along the whole beach row. When we purchased the spot both the website and Google Maps view showed a beautiful beach view with sparse trees. I don’t know if this was for conservation or what but now we know to double check next time. Only San Miguel had it so we were disappointed. I like bush but not like this.
Matthew V — Google review
Beautiful beach, ok campground, but very aggressive park ranger when it came to my service dog who started our interaction with screaming and didn’t actually know ADA law, or was assuming I would not and she would be able to bully me. She then made statements that alluded to me not looking disabled enough to have a service dog, further proving her ignorance to ADA law. Please train your park rangers better at ADA law so they can be more respectful to dog handlers. I know they have tough, thankless jobs often but there was no reason to be disrespectful or to attempt to intimidate me.

Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve is a 52-acre oceanfront area offering hiking trails, green space, and scenic overlooks with views of harbor seals. It's an ideal spot for hiking, biking, bird watching, or beach walks. The preserve provides easy and beautiful hikes with an ocean breeze and allows leashed dogs. Visitors can observe seal pups while being respectful of their space. The trail connects to Bates Beach and the Seal Sanctuary, making it perfect for bird watching and nature immersion.
So relaxing to walk the trails along the bluff and thanks to volunteers they’re well maintained! No fee to park or walk. We were there during pup season so couldn’t walk the entire shore line but loved seeing the seals from the bluff!

52 acres of open space. It's between freeway 101 and the Pacific Ocean. It has fields of wildflowers and native plants, eucalyptus grove of trees, walking paths that connect to the Carpinteria Bluffs Trail, and access to a low tide beach and seal rookery. Since the preserve is on a cliff, the sunsets are gorgeous. Catch the sun as it dips slowly into the ocean horizon. The colors melting into the ocean. Perfection. The access and parking to the preserve is free. FREE! You gotta luv that. Since the preserve is on a bluff, the beach is elevated below. So accessing the beach requires some trekking skills. Plus there are active live train tracks between the beach and preserve. Trains often run through. Always have your wits about you when you're near train tracks. And keep a considerable distance from the moving train. Next to the bluffs are ball fields with actual real turf. There are public restrooms there. I can't offer any additional info on those, I didn't use them. Both the preserve and ball fields have their own parking lots.

A great place for a seaside stroll, and your dog is welcome too. A lot of trails through the coastal scrub brush and some nice stands of trees, although you have to carefully cross active railroad tracks to view the surf breaking below the cliffs. All in all, a very pleasant place to spend some time...

Nice park just before you get to Carpenteria. Great quiet place to let the kids & dogs out of the car to run around a bit on a long drive. Clean bathrooms. Ample parking. You can take a nice walk down the path to the ocean.

Beautiful views in all directions. Mountains in the back, ocean in the front. Baby seals at some point in the year. Fairly flat path. Ends at a beach, but the beach has tar, so bring that baby oil.

Mission Basilica San Buenaventura 1782, located on Main Street in Ventura, California, is a historic Spanish mission with a church dating back to the 1700s. The site also features gardens and a small museum displaying local artifacts. Founded by priest Junipero Serra in 1749, the mission has faced various challenges throughout its history but still stands as a symbol of Catholic and Spanish culture.
Beautiful mission, relaxing, serene. Very informative. The short video is a must watch. The grounds are will maintained

Amazing history. Cost is $8.00 to self tour the grounds. Well worth it if you love historical places
Charles R — Google review
This is a beautiful mission. The priests really care about the parishioners and people in general. The gift shop is my favorite with very friendly staff. There is a chapel which has a Michael Angelo authorized replica of the Virgen and Jesus and many amazing relics from saints such as St. Jude! Their entry fee as a museum is very low, and I support it because it is a beautiful historical site that must be preserved for our children. I love their small garden. It is very serene. The bathrooms are located behind the gift shop through the garden and other bathrooms are located on the outside behind the church. I love this place!!!

The Mission Basilica is beautifully preserved, showcasing rich history and stunning architecture. The church and its peaceful yard offer a lovely place to reflect and explore. There’s a small museum at the entrance that gives great insight into the site’s past. Plan to spend about an hour here—it’s the perfect quick cultural stop. Tickets are available at the door.

Mission San Buenaventura is a nice small Mission. Has lots of history and interesting artifacts. Well maintained and clean. The garden is nice and the church and alter are beautiful. The gift shop is nice. We paid $8 per adult at the gift shop. The self guided tours begin in the gift shop and they provide you with a map that is easy to follow. Overall it was a great experience and I do recommend.

We stumbled upon Mission Basilica San Buenaventura by chance and didn’t even realize it was right in downtown Ventura! Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to see the whole place, but we did get to step inside the church, and it was absolutely beautiful — peaceful, historic, and full of charm. We’re definitely planning to come back to tour the entire mission next time. A lovely hidden gem in the heart of Ventura!
Neen C — Google review
Incredibly beautiful and well maintained church and gardens with museum quality presentation. While they make you go through the gift shop to pay the entrance fee, the modest price ($8 for seniors) was well worth it. The highlights are the church (don’t miss the altarpiece and the Pieta and reliquary) and the immaculately maintained gardens with Queen Palms waving over the myriad flowering plants and bushes. The museum was good, but we didn’t have time to peruse it fully as we were headed out to Santa Ynez.

Beautiful courtyard, an unforgettable original rivers-of-life main entrance double doors, and a real nice stained glass rendition of Calvary (the site of Jesus’ crucifixion).

If you are looking for an activity with a calm and peaceful vibe, this is it. It’s a beautiful short drive away from the main road and it’s worth it. The ladies are sweet. Dog-friendly in outdoor areas and plenty of parking too. We ended up purchasing the Tuscan Herb Infused Olive Oil and Raspberry Balsamic Vinegar after our tasting. I would recommend this place to my family and friends.

This place was a great spot to sample their high-quality olive oil. We enjoyed an olive oil tasting, but the bread was too hard, making it difficult to fully appreciate the flavors. However, the ambiance was wonderful, being out in nature was a nice experience. The service was good. My favorite part, though, was the drive to the place, it was scenic.

For our very first stop in Ojai, this place was absolutely perfect. The prices are very reasonable, and you can sample a wide variety of olive oils, infused oils, and vinegars. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing each island, browse through a bookstore, and observe aquatic life displays. The auditorium presents the entertaining film 'A Treasure in the Sea.'

We always enjoy visiting the National Parks. This one did not disappoint. From watching the very informative short video to the helpful staff. We also took the boat trip out to the Channel Islands. On the way, we got to see Dolphins and Whales. The islands and their history were just amazing.

Had booked a roundtrip with Island Packers for a Friday in September. Got there around 8am because I needed to check-in 45 minutes in advance for the 9am ferry to Scorpion Cove. The visitor center opened at 8:30am, so took a quick walk over to buy some souvenirs and postcards. Liked the setup inside, and the items were easy to find. Checkout with the staff was quick, and I was able to get back to my car, drop off the items, and walk over to Island Packers before they started boarding.

This is a wonderful National Park Headquarters for the Channel Islands NP. There is a movie about the islands, narrated by Kevin Cosnter, a botanical garden with plants and trees, a diorama with animals, and an aquarium with fish, all from the Channel Islands. Lots of books and gifts to buy for adults and children available. The docents are knowledgeable and very helpful. They can help plan a trip to the Channel Islands which is s must!

A neat visitor center for those visiting CINP. Get your Natl Park passport booklets stamped here as well as t-shirts, caps, trinkets and books! Their book selection on the marine ecology & environment of CINP outstanding btw! FYI - just remember that for those taking the ferry boat road from the harbor rides nearby, the boats typically leave shortly after the visitor center opens, and if you catch the last ferry back, the visitor center will already be closed or closing. CINP is a wonderful place, but remember that MORE THAN HALF of CINP is the Federally Protected marine sanctuary underneath the surface! Imagine seeing the largest pod of dolphins just minutes from CINP - we did! The boat captain said it had to be 5000+ dolphins! And a pod of Orca whales teaching their young how to hunt seals, with an actual seal carcass! ONLY IN THE MARINE SANCTUARY OF CINP! MAKE SURE THE GOVT KEEPS THIS PROTECTED!
Michael R — Google review
As far as visitor centers go its pretty neat! The rangers at the desk were kind and helpful. The center itself was pretty interesting and informative. Displays outside include a small nature walk with pamphlets about the indigenous plants and topographical maps of each of the islands and information about each one of them. Inside the center is a small aquarium with local wildlife, some displays of other locals marine life and facts about the local indigenous peoples, the Chumash. If you have the energy there is a tower you can climb up to the 3rd floor that has information on the different level of the ocean and a great view once you reach the top. We finished our trip by picking up souvenirs in the gift shop. We were there for about an hour. If you looking to kill some time definitely stop by and check it out.

A nicely laid out visitor centre on the mainland facing the Channel Islands. The gallery and interactive displays were enjoyed by all the kids. The stairwell paintings are very nicely done. The open aquarium is mesmerizing for the little ones. The fish and the 🦞. Would like to visit the islands but the cost for a family was quite high.

My favourite philosopher~ Thank you guys so much for keeping this place well so we have more chance to study Krishnamurti. It’s a very open space, everything is accessible. My favourite is that meditation room. The place offers more than his home… It is amazing just to check out the garden. People are so friendly here. Can’t appreciate it more.

Stepping into the Krishnamurti house/library is like entering a sanctuary of peace and deep contemplation. Nestled in the breathtaking Ojai Valley, the surroundings are incredibly serene, with towering oaks, gentle breezes, and a stillness that instantly soothes the mind. The entire atmosphere feels like a mental cleanse—a place where thoughts slow down, and clarity begins to emerge. The library itself is beautifully maintained, with an impressive collection of Krishnamurti’s works, including rare books, recordings, and letters. Every corner invites quiet reflection, and there’s a profound sense of presence—as if J. Krishnamurti’s wisdom still lingers in the air. Meditating in the quiet room, surrounded by nature’s quiet symphony, one can't help but feel deeply connected to his teachings. Whether you're a longtime follower of Krishnamurti’s philosophy or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, this place is a rare gem. It’s not just a library—it’s an experience that lingers long after you leave. Highly recommended for anyone in search of mental clarity, inspiration, or a moment of true stillness.

Very peaceful path through fruit trees to the top where there is a beautiful view of Ojai and an adjacent garden, but beware of rattle snakes. I was standing next to one under a chair ten inches from my ankle.

I feel grateful for the opportunity to visit late Krishnamurti's home. His home is well preserved with a kitchen, library, bookstore, media room, and a meditation room. I would say that highlight of this visit was the room with panels arranged in a circle with Krishnamurti's quotes and milestones printed on them. It felt like a vortex. :P A couple days after this visit, I had a very spiritual dream. I hope this place will always remain open to the public.

Lovely energy. Bare floors and someone above me was marching around until very late in the night. Was annoying, but then they left, and I had a couple of days/nights of very peaceful existence. Beautiful grounds, but much of the fenced in garden has been left to the weeds. Would definitely go back several times a year for the serene energy and quiet.
Heather — Google review
It's a quiet and divine place. It's a well maintained house, lawns and landscapes. Obviously, every other book written by Jiddu Krishnamurthi and all his dialogues in the form of books and DVDs are kept in the library. John (sorry didn't ask his last name) gave me a tour of the house and gave some history of JK in his time in the house. If you're an ardent follower of JK or a spiritual reader, do check out this place for sure. This place is certainly got the vibes. I spent couple of hours browsing and reading Krishnamurthi's books.

Set above Ojai, on a twisty road with beautiful views, the Beatrice Wood Center is an extremely interesting stop for anyone interested in the hand-crafted arts, especially pottery and weaving. There was a really nice glass exhibit while we were there. Pans we were delighted to meet one of the weavers, who we interrupted at her work, and who was so generous as to explain her process and tell us about the various pieces on display. All of them were beautiful and they’re for sale! Prices were incredibly reasonable for such unique items. Time it right, and on your way back down to Ojai you can pull over at the view point and maybe at h the “pink moment” on the Topatopa mountains.

Great location for museum with solitude in the hills behind Ojai. Beatrice Woods workshop is available for displaying her ceramic studio contents and finished works of pottery for sale, as her original home. She has an interesting lifestyle told by the docents minding her museum. Also, on offer are skillful ceramic workshops available as classes to learn sculpture in clay, taught by an instructor, as glazing, staining ant other artistic techniques.

The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts lies on the outskirts of Ojai Amid a breathtaking mountainous setting. The Center exhibits Beatrice Wood's master works in Ceramics. Her travels, especially to India, are evident in the Center's display of portions of her extraordinary collection of Indian Folk Art. Fascinating glimpses of her exceptional life can be read from photos and documents displayed in historic house fashion in one section of the Center. Far from just being about Wood, the Center celebrates the best in ceramic work by other artists too. One of the exhibitions on view at the time of my visit was The Presidents' Show a showcase for The American Ceramic Society of Southern California (ACS SoCA) the premier ceramic artists' organization in Southern California . The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts also showcases different kinds of art by diverse artists. Perhaps with a leaning towards Beado's love of Indian Folk Art , I came to visit the Center this time to view the new exhibition of Gond Art a tribal form of Indian painting done by individual artists in Ink and Acrylic Paint. The works are drawn from the mythological stories of one of the largest tribes in India with whom it shares its name. The works are compelling, mysterious and beautiful. In addition to the visual explosion of delights there is much more to be found at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts . The Center boasts one of the most ambitious and diverse educational programs I have ever encountered at a small arts organization.. They offer a full range of lectures, performances, workshops, classes for adults and children and internships too. What is utterly amazing is that this whole operation is run on a virtual shoestring. It is in the words of the Center's Director ,Kevin Wallace (noted artist, author, curator, & 'magician'), " a labor of love". There is no endowment, no staff really, most instruction is done for the love of the craft by seasoned professionals who believe in the vision of the place. Rounding out all of this wonder is a great SHOPPING EXPERIENCE! Since Beatrice Wood was so prolific, there is a rich secondary market of her work for sale at the Center and there are many exquisite pieces for sale .The Center Store sells some of her matted and framed droll, wonderful drawings as well as lovely ceramic works by a number of regionally and nationally known ceramicists. Other types of original art are also sold in the store. There is an interesting variety of art related books available to buy as well. Visit The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts, the setting called aptly called Happy Valley ( another story) is magnificent. In popular culture the name Shangri-La has attached itself to the Ojai Valley since the 1937 film Lost Horizon. If you are searching for a Shangri-La of the Arts in Ojai take a journey to the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts. You will find it there!

I've taken 3 ceramic workshops at Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts and all have been GREAT. Beautiful and peaceful setting, warm, welcoming, kind and gifted stewards Kevin and Sheryl (Sp?) create a wonderful space of creative growth and awareness. Kevin is especially gifted in the art of vegetarian cooking, and scrumptiously beautiful lunch was provided. Their excellence just SHINES. The instructors are FABULOUS and I just attended Natasha Dikareva's "Narratives in Clay" workshop...LIFE CHANGING. I can't say enough good things about this gallery, the classes and the people who run this facility. I swear, I would live there if I could. I feel as if I have walked on sacred ground.

What a truly special place. I recently took a ceramics workshop here and had an incredible experience. The two day workshop was taught outside on a massive patio covered by a canopy of trees overlooking the Topa Topa mtns. One of the best views in Ojai! And a perfect space for creating. The team at the Art Center prepared the most delicious home cooked meals for lunch with multiple salad options and incredible hot dishes. The instructor Jon Keenan was an absolute joy. I would highly recommend The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts for any workshop or just to stop by and visit the gallery. An Ojai must.

Channel Islands Harbor is situated on the picturesque coast of Oxnard, California and offers a variety of activities for visitors seeking both relaxation and adventure. It's a popular destination in Oxnard, with opportunities for kayaking, paddle boarding, diving, fishing charters, and whale-watching during migration seasons. The harbor boasts stunning views and a pleasant pathway along the water's edge. Additionally, there are several good restaurants nearby where visitors can enjoy delicious meals after their waterfront adventures.
Addictive outlet to disconnect and relish the fresh air. There are multiple channels to traverse by water or land. Popular destination for all vessels, especially paddling through the channel. Pleasurable walks or bike riding is a welcoming pastime for those that enjoy the outdoors. There is a weekly Sunday Farmers Market, and other activities throughout the year (4th of July Parade with Fireworks, Christmas Parade of Lights with Fireworks, multiple cars shows, music Concerts by the Sea, Steph’s Rockin Roadshow playing on the water for Labor Day, etc.). It still has that relatively small feeling, which hopefully never becomes commercialized. There are a couple really good restaurants and bars to take in the scenery. Back in the day, it was a place for celebs to retreat from society and the studios for a mini vacay, but fortunately now, it’s just a place for all to enjoy.

Great restaurants, places to walk and bike, local food trucks and more!

This is a perfect place to walk, run, or bike. The pathways along the harbor have you engaged with boats and great looking landscapes along the way...occasionally you'll see some sea animals.

This is the access point to a 20,000,000 acre backyard. Paddle board, kayak, fish, swim, surf, hike, or anything you like to do around water. The crowds are very manageable in spite of the awesome location. On Sunday they have a farmers market that can get busy but the incredible local strawberries are worth it. The ocean is filled with sea life as well. the pic is of a harbor seal that couldn't stay off of my SUP . I'd scare him off and a minute later he'd hop right back up and in a few seconds back to sleep he went. Great place to visit for sure. Hotels, restaurants are plenty and it is a great break from the LA crowd and heat.

One of my favorite places in Ventura county. Plenty of parking, good restaurants and cafes. It's an excellent option for walking or hanging out with kids (riding a scooter or walking). Additionally, the farmers market on Sundays mornings are amazing and highly recommend.
