This place was absolutely wonderful. We got there early so we checked out the cute little shop and even an interactive map of the glacier mountains. We then went out to hear the rules and safety information and shortly we were all assigned a horse (based on our weight and height). The wranglers there were super helpful and kind and helped us all onto our horses. We did the 2 hour trail ride and our trail guide stopped often to tell us interesting things about the land, horses, and even stopped to pick berries for us. We got to try thimble berries and huckleberries. Everyone there treated us very well. $140 for 2 hours is a total deal for what is provided.

We took the 2 hour tour in Glacier National Park. It was amazing. Folks were friendly. One was a true cowboy, with of course cowboy position on things, like women's place and intelligence which he tied to male and female horses, which I found funny, the wife, not so much, but he did try to walk some of it back. Also they were nearly 2 hours late in getting out on the trial, even though we were told to be there well in advance. Wasn't really cool to hear them talk on the radios how the cowboy was "probobly" babysitting the next group, as they were late. Took off one star for the nearly 2 hour wait, sure wife would have taken a few more off for the sexist talk, but she can if she reviews it. Overall amazing ride, great area and guides were great.

My family of 3 went on this morning’s 10am 2 hour Cracker Flats ride with their guide, Reagan. She was friendly, professional, and a great guide. She made sure we were safe, comfortable, and happy. The trail was through forest and then opened up to the flats where you could see the mountains all around. Truly gorgeous. Highly recommend.

What an amazing experience! I was in Montana on a yoga retreat and we went horseback riding one day while there. The wranglers we had were top notch, so friendly and knowledgeable! We all loved every minute of being there!

Months ago, I tried to book the Piegan Valley ride, but because I was a single rider, I wasn’t able to book it so they put me on the Josephine Lake ride with another group that had booked. Months went by, but a few days before my trip, I got a call that someone had booked the Piegan Valley tour and they would switch it! I was amazed they kept me on a wait list for months! All the female wranglers at Many Glacier corral were AMAZING! All very friendly and knowledgeable. Our guide, Amanda, was exceptional. She knew lots about the history of the park and the geology. I would highly recommend booking a ride!

Met up at base camp at around 3000’. Rode 12 miles in about 5 hours into the Swan Valley to the upper camp around 5400’. Upper camp was a beautiful camp nestled amongst the tall pines with the lion creek running through camp. Our source of water for the week coming from the melting snow still covering the swan mountain range. Camp was made up of 6 wall tents and a camp dining tent. Our tent had two cots which would be our home for the week. The food far exceeded my expectations. Kris was the camp cook and she was fantastic. We had restaurant quality breakfasts and dinners every day. And her packed lunches were just as good on our rides. We took two rides. One up through the lion creek pass into Bob Marshall. That ride was about two miles and took us to 7000’. After crossing the pass we found two beautiful mountain lakes. Swimming in the lakes was a great experience. So clear and cool. From this point we looked out across a vast wilderness. The second ride took us up towards the peak of swan mountain. Couldn’t make the peak. Rode to about 7500’ in only 1 1/2 miles. Very steep up and back. Becky and I hiked another 500’ in elevation to get to some snow. Where we made snowman in august. The wildflowers up there where everywhere. Thousands of them. Despite being in the most populated area of the lower 48 for both brown and black bears we didn’t see any. We did see a few elk and had mullies come into camp one morning. Our guides were incredible. Matt and Kyle. So knowledgeable and provided us with a great experience. The pictures and videos just don’t do this trip justice. And the horses were so incredible. We rode trials that barely had enough room for all four of their feet. And the way they ascended and descended those trails was amazing. Some so step we had to lead them down. The stars went on forever. We covered about 30 miles in 4 days and went from 3500’-8000’ and back. Such an appreciation for our horses. Mine was ‘hammer’. I cannot begin to explain how great sitting in the saddle feels and riding those trails. Montana I will be back. And if your looking for a top notch once in a lifetime experience visit Swan Mountain Outfitters. Best in the business.

My son and I took the half day Glacier Overlook ride with Swan Mountain Outfitters through the beautiful National Forest near Glacier National Park from their East West Glacier location. Caity was our guide and she made the ride very memorable and was always willing to stop the ride to make saddle and stirrup adjustments for the less experienced riders like my son and me. It just so happened that we were the only riders booked for our time slot, so we basically had a private trip. The ride took us up to a cliff edge that provided a beautiful view of Glacier National Park and the surrounding areas. Caity was very knowledgeable about the area, including the foliage and names/backgrounds of the various mountains. We were able to sit out on the cliff and soak in the beautiful nature around us. She even picked some huckleberries for us to sample. The ride was at a comfortable pace and included some inclines and declines adding just the right amount of difficulty for inexperienced riders like us! In talking with our guide, we learned how Swan Mountain Outfitters looks after their horses ensuring they are in good physical condition while not being overworked. While I didn’t have the opportunity to go horseback riding with another outfit, I believe I made a great choice and would definitely book another trip, possibly an all day ride ending with a cowboy cookout !

Incredible trip! Took the 3 day pack trip ~15 miles in. Coming from Chicago, the views were breathtaking. The experience was rewarding. Although our group was comfortable in the outdoors based on previous camping, we had barely any riding experience prior to this. Don’t let that stop you if you were like us. The guides (Nelson and Kevin) were informative, reaffirming, and listened. They took whatever concern you had seriously, and addressed it to ensure you were comfortable. It truly is your trip and what you want to do. Our camp cook, Stephanie, made fantastic meals, but we also found ourselves sitting at the table or riding the trails sharing stories with her. She was amazing. The rides can be hard at times—very steep inclines/switchbacks. But, you need to and learn to trust your horse. They’re incredible animals—literal athletes in every sense—that the outfitters truly care for and you learn to truly respect/admire. The horses have done these trails hundreds of times, so you quickly learn to trust what you learn during your orientation, but more importantly, trust your horse when technical parts of the trail come in front. Only negative/feedback I would give to SMO is to be more clear on tipping at the end of the trip. Although stated on the site and materials provided, it was still confusing at the end of the trip. All because we wanted to make sure we were compensating everyone appropriately for an amazing trip! Just caused a little frustration among the larger group but nothing to deter from this experience. You’ll see views you would never be able to see any other way. You’ll experience new, sometimes challenging but always rewarding, things when it comes to the ride. And, you’ll make some friends along the way. Recommending to all my friends/family. Thank you SMO! Will not forget this trip.

Conrad Mansion Museum

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
The Conrad Mansion Museum, built in 1895 and now fully restored, offers guided tours by period-dressed guides. It is a significant part of Kalispell's history and boasts beautiful gardens ideal for picnics or leisurely walks. The mansion's Christmas tour is especially enchanting due to its stunning decorations every year. Inside the house are original pieces from clothing to cookware and electrical appliances.
The special events at Conrad Mansion Museum are excellent!! We really enjoyed the "Ghost Tours" and meeting Dracula, the soft and friendly black cat. A recommendation would be for the group tour hosts to spotlight the "story actors" in the rooms with a small penlight. That way, we can see the outfits or costumes they are wearing and gives them an eerie appearance - especially the main foyer host, female telling the artist story in the bedroom and the guy in the kitchen. The screams heard throughout the house from the encounters with the "closet creature" really added to the experience. I enjoyed the story of the roofless Halloween Party that started at midnight. The whole experience was really well done and definitely worth the drive. Continued success!!

Amazing tour. This house is incredible. The tour guide was very informative and vast knowledge of information on this house. The things in this house were definitely ahead of their time. Highly recommend. The gardens are beautiful. The house is very well preserved with a lot of original artifacts. Definitely worth a stop. You also get greeted by the mansion cat. He was very sweet.

What an amazing historic experience! We went with children 9-12yrs and everyone enjoyed the whole thing. We did a self tour and spent a good hour wandering around looking at everything. 90% of the antiques and furniture are all original to the Conrad family so its like a time capsule of life in the later 1800's. Really recommend stopping!
Cherith H — Google review
I like here very much! Is worth to visit this beautiful place! Around 90% furnitures /items are original in museum which make me surprised on that.
Siao S — Google review
Great thought out tour of the Conrad mansion. We really enjoyed the tour. At just over an hour, we definitely got our money’s worth. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
Eliot V — Google review
Beautiful home with a lot of interesting history. The home is well kept as are the grounds. In the home we were told by the staff 90% of the furnishings and artifacts are original to the home which is quite unusual.
Kirk P — Google review
A true historical treasure. The house itself is beautiful, and so well kept. It looks like the family just left for the day, and would be back later that evening. That’s how good it looks. Our guide was Micah. She was a wealth of knowledge, funny, and knew how to wrangle the kids to where they were just fascinated with everything.
Fire A — Google review
I loved learning about the history of the area and this mansion. Unfortunately, the Ghost Tours were all sold out but we still enjoyed walking the grounds and peeking in whatever windows we could. Hopefully, when we return, it will be open once more to the public. :)

Bigfork Summer Playhouse

Event venue
Concerts & Shows
Theaters
Rising college-age stars perform in popular Broadway musicals at this summer stock theater.
In full disclosure before I review, my daughter is a cast member. We travelled to see her perform in all four shows. My husband and I kept saying to each other after every show "...no one is going to believe us back home when we tell them how absolutely professional and amazing these shows are". Our family has seen a good bit of theatre over the last 5 years (and paid much more for tickets) and are so incredibly impressed with the quality of the Bigfork Summer Playhouse shows that we just saw. The choreography was top-notch! Vocals absolutely stellar! Transitions were seamless. The live musicians were excellent. Also, I am not sure when/if I have ever seen better acting! Drowsy Chaperone was hysterical...the whole audience was laughing most of the time. Joseph was a delight on many levels. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was simply beautiful. Mama Mia was so great that we were still singing the songs in the car on the way home. I will most certainly follow the careers of many of these actors to watch for their inevitable successes professionally!
Mandy C — Google review
I took my 3 high school girlfriends who came to town, with husbands, as we celebrated 56 years since graduation. We saw All Shook Up and loved it!! My husband and I have seen several shows here the last couple summers. Truly a very professional group of actors from all over the country.

Went to "Catch Me if you Can" last night and it was amazing! Awesome show! Especially the girls, they were all suuuuper hot! Bigfork Summer Playhouse always delivers great shows and a great variety!

This is a wonderful playhouse! The actors are incredible! It's professional level quality! So excited to watch Mamma Mia this year, they did a performance a couple years back & it was hilarious!!! This place is awesome, and I can't watch to watch the plays this summer! Who needs to watch a movie, when you can watch a live performance... standing ovation, & lots of applause for Bigfork Summer Playhouse :)

We had a wonderful time and fell right into the story the actors portrayed. Something Rotten was a humorous experience with one surprise after another.

The production was songs from 4 decades, and the cast did a fantastic job! We thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast was very talented!

Flathead Lake

Lake
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Large freshwater lake featuring several small islands & a variety of native & non-native fish.
This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We wish we could have spend more time here. All of the people living in this area are lovely as well.
Katharina R — Google review
I forgot how much costs to enter but I do know it wasn’t super expensive. I suggest bringing snacks and watch out for ants and other insects or animals. The water is super clear and the bottom is rocky. A good pair of swim shoes is much needed or your feel will hurt or you risk hurting yourself. But all in all a great spot to relax whether you’re in or out of the water. The views are simply amazing.

It really is so clear here! Very peaceful and beautiful place to visit and even my small baby boy loved it here!

Stayed here for a week and I absolutely loved it. This is one of the best lakes I’ve ever been to. We stayed in a lake home just outside Lakeside and it was great. The lake is relatively warm in the summer, (still pretty cold) and the scenery is amazing. The snow on the mountain tops never leaves even in the summer. You’ll love your stay here. Make sure to go to Wild Horse Island!
Al C — Google review
Beautiful and calm lake for kayaking. We enjoyed our trip to Bigfork MT. This lake has so much to offer. We only wished we rented jet skis for the day. Was chilly at the end of June but that didn’t stop us from taking a dip after kayaking.
Christie B — Google review
Long overdue post. But we stayed here in an airbnb on the lake the week of the 4th of July 2019. The water was crystal clear. It's absolutely an amazing getaway vacation spot!!!! The only thing I wish we would have done was rent a boat to further check out the lake or do a fishing tour. We have wanted to go back but continue to pick somewhere different every year. 1 day I wouldn't mind buying a house on or very near the lake!!!!
Frankie V — Google review
Flathead Lake in Montana is an amazing sight to see as you're cresting the hill heading towards Polson on its southern shore. The valley and this lake were formed by the glaciers that covered this area. The receding glaciers and the massive ice jambs that formed and broke on more than one occasion left us with this awe-inspiring, extremely majestic landscape. The lake sits to the south of Glacier National Park and is 27 miles long, 15 miles wide, and 370' deep with a gravel bottom and crystal clear waters. Wild Horse State Park is located on an island only accessible by a guided boat tour. It is home to a wild herd of horses and remains relatively untouched by humans. Cool place to visit if you are in the area. I have watched storms cross this lake that kick up the waves and leave a distinct line in the surface of the water you can see when you come out of the storm into clear blue skies. The lake covers enough surface area that you might have storms on one area of the lake and sunny and hot in others. It's hard to believe this valley was once under a large body of water known as "Lake Missoula." When the ice dams broke on this massive body of water it caused the "Missoula floods"; a huge wall of water, mud, rocks and trees that stretched into Washington and Oregon thousands of years ago. This is what is left of that event, a place for us to explore and enjoy. A landscape that only mother nature could come up with. As always, leave it better than you found it. It literally took thousands of years to make...... Enjoy 😉!.

CSKT Bison Range

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
The Bison Range Wildlife Refuge is a vast native prairie land that serves as a sanctuary for various wildlife species in Montana. Visitors can enjoy viewing bison, elk, pronghorn, deer, and mountain sheep up close through the 19-mile long Red Sleep Mountain Drive loop road. A visitor center and several trails are also available for exploration. Non-tribal members are required to pay an admission fee of around $15-20 per car to drive around the area.
My husband and I stopped here on our way home to WA from Whitefish, MT. We loved this experience so much. We didn't think we would see much bison honestly and ended up seeing a ton. And even saw some antelope. Also has great views. Stop here if you are in Western WA , it is well worth $20.
Zoe M — Google review
This was a completely spur of the moment activity for us and it ended up being a highlight of our trip! We wished we had taken the longer route! The animals are so close to your car. We loved it!
Miranda S — Google review
The Bison Range is well worth the drive and the cost. There’s a large parking lot, so if you’re meeting other people there, you can leave one vehicle in the parking lot. The variety of wildlife on the Bison Range is vast. You will see birds of prey, hear song birds, elk, deer, bison, and much more. If you can make the trip in fall, you could hear the elk calls during mating season. The views of the mission mountains in the background are breathtaking, as are the views on the range.
N1 Z — Google review
This was a fantastic time and well worth going to. It is tribe run and they really care about the animals and land. The people working at the visitor center were very enthusiastic and knowledgable. They had a wall map with stickers you could mark where you saw animals along the drive which was really helpful. Someone marked they saw a bear but we did not see one. But we saw lots of bison, elk, pronghorn, a couple big horns, many types of birds, and some pretty plants as well. Please remember to stay in your car or within arms length unless on the trail and don't be stupid around the animals.
Christina E — Google review
The range has about 50-100 bison, when we were there we saw about 7 close up and the rest were gathered back near the center of the range. The tour takes about 2 hours with great views of the mission mountains. Worth a visit if you have the time.
Tony L — Google review
Be prepared to not see Bison! They love to roam and may not be visible during your drive. With that said, we did luck out and saw a couple distant groups. Beyond that, the drive at sunset was gorgeous.
Jeremy Y — Google review
Great place to see wildlife in their natural surroundings. We went on a weekday afternoon and there wasn't many other cars there. We saw bison, elk, deer and possibly a bear (from afar). Would definitely recommend for nature lovers.
Johnny W — Google review
An absolutely incredible place to visit. We were lucky enough to visit the last day the big loop was open. It's a short drive from Missoula. The views were amazing as well.

A Carousel for Missoula

A Carousel for Missoula is a beloved local attraction and a hub for community events. It stands out as the first fully hand-carved carousel built since the Great Depression, boasting an impressive speed of nearly 8 miles per hour. With 38 hand-carved ponies and two chariots, this vibrant ride offers fun for all ages. The experience of reaching for the golden ring adds to its charm.
I love carousels. This one is well maintained and generates smiles for young, old, and young at heart! Each pony has a history, and there is a lot of history about the making of the carousel on site as well. There is a lovely little gift shop where I was able to purchase an ornament of the pony rode. It is also located next to the riverwalk, so you can take a stroll or a swim. If you're in Missoula, you should visit this place.

Our little one loved the Carrousel for Missoula. The carrousel itself is amazing. Clean, neat and very fast. But more than that, the playground and area around it is amazing too. We had lots of fun.

This place is so amazing and the people who run it are so kind. Our grandma is in a wheel chair and they kindly had accommodations to safely get her on the ride in her wheel chair to ride with her grand daughter. She said her best memories as a little girl were riding the carousel and she was so happy to relive those memories with us. We absolutely will be back

This was the highlight of my kiddo's week. He had so much fun. It is only $1 for kids and $2 for adults! We rode it twice! The elderly man running it made it so much fun for my kiddo the way he interacted with him!! The playground outside is amazing! We didn't want to leave!

We’ve come up for the summer the last 3 years and this continues to be one of my kids favorite spots in town. They’ve done a great job of preserving and maintaining this awesome landmark. Prices are reasonable and employees are SO friendly!

Hosted a party on 7/26 for my daughter's birthday. Mr. Jeff made things SO easy, his fun positive attitude made everything so easy, all of the staff working that day was so nice! Highly recommend!!
Torree A — Google review
Beautiful carousel, but heartbreaking to see so many dead birds outside. I visited today and found three dead birds that had flown into the mirrored walls surrounding the carousel. This can’t be the first time. Mirrors confuse birds because they reflect the sky and trees, making them think they can fly through. Please, this needs to be fixed. Stickers alone won’t solve the problem. Why not invite the community to paint over the mirrors with something creative and beautiful that still keeps the carousel’s charm while saving the birds’ lives? I’ll gladly take down this review when the issue is addressed — but until then, it’s too sad to ignore.

Such a neat place with so many ways to enjoy the time!! Just had my child’s birthday there and was extremely satisfied! Haley and Shaun did such an amazing job with catering to myself and the party guests!! 100% perfection!! Thank you to the team and Tracy for making this private party possible!!

Garnet Ghost Town

Mentioned on
2 lists
Ghost town
Sights & Landmarks
Hiking area
Garnet Ghost Town is a well-preserved 1890s gold-mining town that offers a glimpse into the gold rush era. The compact log cabins with period furnishings and over a dozen preserved buildings in a state of 'arrested decay' transport visitors back to the rapid rise and fall of cities during that time. While some structures are open for exploration during visiting hours, the site can be visited any time roads are clear.
A place you should definitely visit when you are nearby! Garnet is one of Montana's most intact ghost towns. It symbolizes an important era in Montana's hard rock mining history. Substantial effort has gone into stabilizing and protecting the remaining historic structures. We had a nice time exploring the old buildings.
Sebastian — Google review
A fun experience! There are 2 gravel roads in and out The Cave Gulch road is a little scary if you're in a low car or aren't used to gravel I'd avoid the Gulch road. We spent about 1 hour here as a family. Definitely worth the stop.
Sarah T — Google review
Such an incredibly fun experience, Garnet had been so well preserved it’s like walking through time and as you walk the grounds history almost comes alive. They have maps available at the gift shop and in a box near the entrance of the town, there are also several plaques which tell information about each building. A great place to spend the day exploring, also don’t forget about the small ghost settlement on the way in called Coloma.
Justin B — Google review
Really nice place. Great history and nicely presented. Great staff. Worth the drive. ...nice cars and RVs highly not suggested to travel the road in. Gravel washboard and miles of it but super cool when you get there.
Madeline S — Google review
Beautiful scenic drive to get there. Saw deer along the road and cows were munching right in the parking lot. Feels like everyone just left a decade ago. Worth the trip if you like the history.
Michelle G — Google review
Definitely worth a stop the pay is by honor system with envelope so better to bring cash and pen The road is fine if you go off the highway 200 part. We did it in our beater car and just drove 20mph. Once you turn to go to ghost town follow the signs not the gps . You have to walk a little bit from parking lot to the building so if you aren’t Mobile I would park on the lower part (even if you don’t have handicap sticker) The gift store was cute. We bought sticker for $1. You don’t have to necessarily go in every building but I would say the hotel and general store are worth seeking out Decently clean pit toilet at top of parking lot and bottom where handicap parking lot is. Some picnic benches but no food sold on property. There was bottles of water in gift store and fill up tap for your own bottle

Be very careful if attempting the drive from I-90, the 2nd half of the road is very rough sharp rocks on an unmaintained trail. We punctured a tire on a Jeep Grand Cherokee on the way up......be prepared!

This was an amazing piece of history to visit and the staff are very friendly! Do make sure that you have cash on you as their systems yo accept card can go down and it is also in a cellular dead zone so app purchases may not work either.

Gem Mountain Philipsburg

Mentioned on

Mine
Sights & Landmarks
Gem Mountain Philipsburg is a popular destination for gem enthusiasts, offering the opportunity to mine for local sapphires. Located just outside of Philipsburg, Montana, this attraction allows visitors to wash and sort through gravel in search of precious gems during the warmer months. Additionally, Gem Mountain has a year-round gift store in Philipsburg where visitors can continue their sapphire mining experience indoors.
We visited the mine location over the weekend and had the full day VIP area booking. We had such a great time. The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, always available to answer questions and help wash our gravel. We have a special needs child and it was easy and comfortable for her to enjoy the day with us at the mine. Looking forward to our next visit!
Shantel W — Google review
We had a great time looking for sapphires in the downtown location. Staff was friendly and we found some pretty nice stones that we are having cut!
Renee R — Google review
Bought a 2 gallon bucket of gravel for $55, despite the AI overview telling me it was $22, and managed to extract 15 carats of smaller Saphires. Two were gem grade and could have been processed into gems but chose to just hang on to them. We spent a couple hours of fun learning how to handle the gravel to find the gems. It was a blast.
Roy B — Google review
We were contacted by 3 different staff members and they were all rude. We also overheard a couple of phone conversations while waiting to be helped that were unprofessional. The setup wasn't great. Very dirty water for cleaning our dirt, table tops that were uneven, and trying to get out with our sapphires was taking forever. We ended up just putting them in our pockets since we couldn't get anyone to get us a baggie. 2 buckets. $100, maybe 20 sapphires -- nothing of real value.
Randy O — Google review
I didn't realize you could sift for your own sapphires at this location, I thought it was at the mine only. The employees were amazing and so helpful. Huge shout out to Dean you made the whole experience worth it! I cant wait to come back.
Christy B — Google review
Rock hounding at Gem Mountain in the city of Phillipsburg MT was a blast. Constance was so helpful, sweet and knowledgeable - she made our experience fun and interesting. Angie, also very knowledgeable and lovely, evaluated our sapphire finds so we know what we found. We will be back! Recommend highly.
Terri R — Google review
We drove hours and hours out of our way to buy bags of sapphire pay dirt. Their website said they had it at the store in town. When we arrived they were very dismissive and said they didn't have any for the summer because they were just too busy. Go across the street to the better gem store. They were super nice and had LOTS of pay dirt from 2 different mines!! Get it together, Gem Mountain.
Juliet K — Google review
Overall it was a fun experience BUT once we had our stones, the gal evaluating them was not pleasant, not helpful and looked like she wanted to be anywhere but helping us. We ended up just taking whatever stones we had and left. The last impression was the lasting impression of the place. Next time we will go elsewhere.

Old Montana Prison & Auto Museum Complex

Museum
Specialty Museums
Highly Recommend! Very interesting and educational. So much history! We only had time to tour the prison and auto museum but if you have 2 days, you can enjoy 3 other museums with your admission ticket. Very enjoyable experience and such friendly staff. Over 200 beautiful cars organized well by decades. Nicest car museum I have ever toured. I am not passionate about cars, but I really enjoyed it!
Stacie P — Google review
Highly recommend! My husband and I stopped by shortly before they closed and were able the check out the old prison. The staff were kind enough to let us back the next morning to see the car museum the next day, free of charge. We are so happy we stopped here to check out this museum on our way to Glacier, super interesting and fun experience! The staff were so friendly! We got a discount having AAA
Rachel P — Google review
My husband & I visited both museums. Well worth the cost of admission & the time. The self guided tour is amazing. You can walk through nearly all of the prison. So much information & education. The auto museum is a car enthusiast’s dream. Vehicles dating back to about 1914 & into the 1970’s. Would highly recommend!
Tina S — Google review
It's such a cool place to visit. Amazing auto exhibit. The old prison is really neat to explore. The other museums across the street are interesting blasts from the past. Highly recommend checking out this fun place in Deer Lodge. Montana.
Amanda M — Google review
Amazing experience! Tickets are good for a second visit, upto 1 year. Includes several museums in town. Allow about 3 plus hours just for the prison and antique cars, depending on walking pace, interest in cars , and reading the info on self guided tour. Great little gift shop too!
Christy M — Google review
This prison looks like a castle, and it's incredible. I love the history around it, too. A must see if you're in the area. They also have an incredible car museum, and I would say 90% is owned by one person. It's a really nice collection. There are 5 places included in your entry. I couldn't believe you got so much for so cheap. That never happens. Don't forget your AARP if you qualify.
Beatriz S — Google review
We stopped for an antique store and wandered over for the museum. Definitely worth the stop and highly recommended. The prison portion was very unique and interesting. Then add in the extensive auto museum. Their was worth the entry price.

Came out of state and stopped by to check this out. Very fascinating and educational. I could hear some families scaring their kids throughout the museum as we went. Also bought tickets for an older mustang, to help proceeds to the museum. Here’s to hoping we win!

Museums
The World Museum of Mining in Butte, founded in 1963, is a tribute to the town's mining legacy. It offers a recreated 1890s mining town experience and showcases various exhibits on the tools and history of mining. Visitors can take guided tours into the Orphan Girl Mine, participate in educational programs, summer camps for kids, and engaging field trips.
This is a neat museum to see. Be there before 2pm to catch the last tours underground. There is plenty to see on the 20 something acres above though. Good place to kill a couple of hours strolling around and exploring unguided too. It's at the back of the Montana tech school so keep on going if you think you're lost. Check it out, lots of neat stuff to see.

Had a great time here. If you stop here I would recommend the tour as a must do activity. The tour is about an hour and half and is great! Our tour guide Tim could have convinced me he actually was a miner with the detailed information he was providing. You will see the above ground support equipment and then walk into a ‘new’ museum tunnel to an original mine area. Have good shoes and you will be wearing a hard hat with light, and eye protection. There was only one slight low ceiling height area I noticed but still over 6’. The mine walk was all on packed ground - sloped but stable. The flat areas had water and some mud like areas but I was able to come out clean. Had a jacket but did not use was very comfortable - high 90’s outside - 60’s in mine , was great. Outside of the mine there are numerous exhibits to take in. Large replica mining town can be explored- I felt like I was on a movie set. If taking the tour I would plan on a 3 hour stay. Large gift shop as well. Plenty of parking. We didn’t purchase tour tickets in advance but I would recommend it as we were lucky to make the last tour of the day.
Paul P — Google review
Nicely done d museum with inside exhibits of minerals taken locally and outside exhibits of the mines workings. A good reapers ration of what was underneath the ground. Get tickets ahead for the mine tour. We missed out because it was full and we had a timeline. Hour and a half tour. Comprehensive. Worth a stop
Alexandra M — Google review
The mining museum was a highlight to our weekend in Butte. I highly recommend the underground mine tour! Our tour guide, Ken was very knowledgeable and hilarious. He made the mining history come to life. Going underground was a whole new experience. It was the best time.
Malia J — Google review
The buildings in the above-ground village have extremely interesting displays with rare objects from the time periods. Ken was our guide for the pump house and the underground mine and his knowledge was paralleled with his sense of humor, making the experience a real treat. Mining is in his blood - his great grandfather worked in these mines! Thank you, World Museum of Mining for a truly unique and memorable experience.

I flew my family across the country for the Copper Kings 100 mile ultra marathon here in Butte. The underground tour was a great gateway to understanding Butte’s history and to see what lies below the surface of this fascinating area. Ken, our guide, kept everyone engaged - including my 7 and 11 year old. The ground was just a little muddy and the walk had frequent stops. No one had any trouble keeping up. Our guide offered to take pictures of our group at several cool spots and the pictures came out so well. We could see our breath in the mine so take a sweatshirt. The bathrooms were clean and the ride to and from the museum offered great views. Yes, you should do this tour.
Wendy H — Google review
We had a wonderful experience, we had a fantastic guide (Ken) who was very knowledgeable, friendly and fun. The kids enjoyed going underground to get a better understanding of what mining is all about out . We enjoyed walking around after our tour to see the different buildings - fun to learn that many are real structures relocated here to Butte.

From San Antonio, Texas visiting out in Butte for my son birthday. He really wanted to go there so he can go into the mine itself. Overall was an amazing trip. Price wise was worth it. I have paid more money for tours that was nothing compared to theirs. Learned a lot about the town and its history with mining in general. Our tour guide was awesome. I’ll share photos of him. His rock jokes kind of like dad jokes but made it a funny tour to remember lol definitely recommend checking it out especially the part of the tour where they take you down the mine. Go down about 100 ft in and just awesome. Never in my life did I think I go into a mine or even that far deep into the earth itself just an experience I recommend anyone to try out. Thank you to the staff for an amazing time and to our tour guide who made a memory we won’t forget

Berkeley Pit Viewing Stand

Vista point
Sights & Landmarks
This former copper-mine viewing point overlooks the huge open pit, now flooded with water.
Photos were taken Friday, September 27, 2024. Admission was only $5/ person during our trip. This is one of the most beautiful (and toxic) bodies of water, that doesn't seem real unless you see it in person with your own two eyes! There are some signs in the viewing area as well.
Dani M — Google review
Super unique and interesting place to see if you're in Butte! Tons of informative signs to tell you what's going on, and why the water is so delicious looking yet so toxic! Grab some cool souvenirs in the shop too!
Jonathan K — Google review
This is a tough one to review. It’s a very interesting spot with a wild history. I think it’s good to see it at once as a reminder what humans can do to the earth. The gentleman working there was very nice and they had beautiful items for sale. But $6 is a lot to just look at the pit. Not to mention the amount and the web site are not updated. The hours and cost is incorrect. Still, I’m going to rate it four stars because I think it’s worth seeing once and it supports the bird deterrents. If it was still $3 and the web site updated I’d rate it 5. It’s amazing how beautiful something deadly can be.
Bonnie C — Google review
Very interesting quick stop for sure. It's our history and it's ongoing..... Well done sight but the price went from 3$ to 6$ which is a bit much and it did make me a bit sad which is why its a4 star. Not tons of RV parking but it was fairly empty when we visited.
Nancy N — Google review
It is true, the toxic sludge pit is much, much more pretty in person The viewing stand is also a great place to see the Virgin Mary statue in the mountains

Open during set hours. Access is controlled. Small fee but great view of the toxic Berkley Pit. Worth the stop. Gift shop also on site, where you purchase admission. Nice people. Popular site.
L H — Google review
We were lucky enough to be there when the trolly tour was there. So, we heard a lot of the history, what the Dept of Natural Resources and The Pitt’s management team was doing to mitigate the toxicity of the place and damage to wildlife that had been happening. That made it really interesting. Otherwise it’s big Pitt filled with green water!

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park

Park
Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is a stunning destination offering guided tours of vast limestone caverns, as well as picturesque trails, picnic spots, and a well-equipped campground. The park has seen recent improvements including a new visitors center. The classic tour led by experienced guides offers breathtaking views along the way and interesting facts about the area. However, it's important to note that the tour is physically demanding with steep ascents and challenging maneuvers within the caves.
We loved the main cavern tour. We hiked about 3/4 of a mile up the paved trail to the cavern opening. There were a lot of stairs but as active seniors, we could do it without difficulty. There are some tight places and a lot of crouching so as not to hit your head. The rooms were full of stalagmites and stalactites, rock shaped like ribbons of bacon, popcorn, and columns. It was incredible to see and photograph. We loved our experience. There is another tour that is more accessible for younger kids and mobility challenged people.
Linda R — Google review
I had a really great experience with our guild Dean on the moderate tour. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor but very stern when we weren't to touch something. Now the view of the surrounding area from up top at the cave entrance was just amazing. Definitely recommend a must go see.
Tom R — Google review
We took the “Classic Tour” at 11 a.m. Our guide Huckleberry was a nice mix between informative, funny & smooth. He led the entire 2 hours tour with knowledge & dedication. We always felt in good hands & safe during the entire tour. The tour itself was quite impressive. Exploring those caves and learning about how they started to exist and developed was interesting and informative. I can recommend experiencing this part of Montana’s cave history.
Lobo M — Google review
Beautiful scenic drive up to the caverns. Paradise Tour is decent but only takes you a short distance into the cavern. The outside walk to the cavern is longer than the walk inside the cavern. Beautiful views inside the cavern but the majority of the tour is standing and listening to the very knowledgeable guide about the interesting cavern history. Would recommend the longer tour and would recommend purchasing tickets prior to arrival as tours do sell out. Nice cafe with very tasty food. Highly recommend the Bison Burger, fresh side salad and Huckleberry Soda💜
Stacie P — Google review
We did the classic 2 hour/2 mile cavern tour. Be prepared to go up and down many stairs. First 3/4 of a mile is spent going uphill 300 ft. You have 15 to 20 minutes to get it done or they may send you back. No children are allowed on this tour. Also, no bags of any kind allowed, with the exception of a needed medical one. The staff were all friendly and Rachel, our tour guide, did a fine job. There is a gentler Paradise Tour that is for children and guests with limited mobility. It is shorter in time and distance.
Debi T — Google review
Wow! And wow! I know a lot of people did not discover this place yet but if you ever came across to Montana. You’ve got to visit this beautiful cave it is amazing and beyond amazing. The picture cannot even justify. I would say highly, highly recommended this tour you will love it.
Merna T — Google review
We took the Paradise tour. Very informational, and our guide was entertaining (I believe her name is Bridget? She was awesome!) however the 2 rooms you see are pretty much right as you enter the caverns past the doors, I guess I expected a little more walking around, but all the formations are amazing nonetheless! We would love to go back and take the Classic tour!
Bailey M — Google review
We did the two hour classic tour for the umpteenth time it did not disappoint. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and introduced a lot of humor to the tour. The food at the café was great. There is ample parking. There are outdoor kennels to keep your dogs shaded and watered. The caverns themselves are absolutely stunning. If you do the classic tour, there is a brief uphill hike and the tour itself is about two hours. You do not get to see the paradise room with this tour you do however get to see everything else. Having done both if I were to choose one, the classic tour is much better than the paradise tour. If you are a native Montana and have not been to the caverns, shame on you!

This is a retail shop. Walked in on 7.28.25 and the entire time we were there we were'nt greeted or spoken to by the old geezer running the place. Another couple came in while we were there and it was the same for them. I wouldn't buy anything from this place even if someone gave me money to do so. Walked up the street and the shop owner was totally opposite; spent 60 bucks there.

Our entire group had one of the best times here at Montana Whitewater! We had the 2 best instructors, Chance and Autumn. They made the trip even more enjoyable and we had such a good time. They were very knowledgeable and super friendly. Would definitely recommend Montana Whitewater to anyone looking to zip line. We will be back to do the bigger zip line soon! Thank you Chance and Autumn, hopefully we can request you both next time.

Alyssa and Jackson were super fun and knowledgeable guides for our Ziplining adventure! I highly recommend them as guides. We had a blast. Brandon was our guide on our whitewater rafting trip. He was amazing and navigated us thru some fun class III and IV waters. Overall Montana Whitewater Rafting & Zipline teams were GREAT! The ladies at the front desk were super helpful and kind. All the guides work together to make our two-part day an incredible adventure! Thank you Alyssa, Jackson, Brandon and Olivia!!! You all are the best! <3 Carnivals

10/10 recommend! We did a double experience and did zip lining first with Jackson and Alyssa! They were AWESOME and made sure everyone had a blast! They were also so very patient when our youngest couldn’t make it up the ladder and had to go down! Thank yall! Then we headed over for white water rafting! Our crew got partnered up with Tim! We had a blast going down the river and hitting some awesome rapids! One thing I would like to add the process of being able to purchase and get your photos automatically airdropped to your phone was GREAT!!

An unforgettable experience on the Gallatin River! I went whitewater rafting with Montana Whitewater Rafting Co. in June 2025, and it was hands down one of the most thrilling experiences I’ve had in Montana. We opted for the “less challenging” route, but it still gave us plenty of excitement... waves crashing, hearts racing, and laughter all the way through. At one point, I almost fell out during a rapid, and a big splash sent the kid next to me disappearing between the seats (inside the boat, thankfully!). Our guide, Cole Mosher, was absolutely fantastic, knowledgeable, funny, and made us feel safe the entire time. He even encouraged us to try the more advanced route next time... but after seeing a massive rock on our way back, I'm still "thinking about it" 🥶🥶😅 And shoutout to their team for snapping some epic action shots. We looked like pros out there...well, almost 🌝

Booked this adventure last minute! What a great experience! We did both adventures Tall Tim, our rafting guide, gave us girls the wettest ride we've ever been on!! Thank you to you two for being great at what you do!!

Absolutely amazing experience with Montana Whitewater and our incredible guide, Julia! We had such a blast out on the Gallatin River and through the Mad Mile. It’s truly breathtaking, and the perfect mix of adrenaline and natural beauty. Julia is a total pro. She made the ride exciting, fun, and most importantly, safe. You can tell she loves what she does, and it made the whole adventure even better. They provide everything you need, from gear to guidance, and the entire crew was friendly and professional. The cherry on top? The photos! Captured by a professional photographer, they’re incredible and such a great way to remember the day. Can’t recommend this enough, we’ll definitely be back!

Beautiful views. I highly recommend taking the lifts for the views. We went with young children as little as 3 years old and felt completely safe. I wish we could have explored more or did some hiking. Maybe when the kids get a bit older.

Big Sky Ski Resort is AMAZING! I have skied here before, and it has incredible terrain and beauty. Today in September I am here to do some hiking and take the lifts up. I want to give a special thanks to Calvin and the entire crew at Big Sky. EVERY single person I encountered (lift operators, ticket booth, etc.) was WONDERFUL! The employees here are world-class. Big Sky Ski Resort is lucky to have them, and they should be rewarded for every 5-star review posted. They are all incredibly kind, smart, helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and hard-working. I had a mishap, and Calvin and his crew handled it so beautifully. I was able to truly enjoy my visit here because of them!

We stayed here for a day during our Yellowstone and Grand Teton trip, and while the check-in experience with the front desk and bell boy was excellent, our overall impression was ruined at checkout. After leaving, we were hit with a surprise $4.50 charge. When I contacted customer service, a person named Jeff claimed it was for a water bottle from the room. This is absolutely false — we never used or even noticed any such bottle. We carried our own water the entire trip. His explanation that “the bottle was on the table, not in the fridge” makes no sense, and frankly comes across as an excuse to justify an unjustified charge. It’s shocking and disappointing that a place with otherwise nice staff and a serene environment would spoil a guest’s experience with such petty, dishonest practices. Pros: Nice front desk and bell boy service, calm surroundings. Cons: Very limited vegetarian food options, and worst of all — hidden charges after checkout. Lesson learned: Always take photos when you check in and out, because there are bad elements that try to take advantage. This was the worst checkout experience I’ve had in years of traveling, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who values honesty and transparency. BTW poor rating because of billing customer service

It was so quiet and peaceful foxes were outside frolicking in the fresh snow. We actually were the only people who were staying at the resort at the time and it was a really magical experience. I don’t recommend you dry your clothes there though it’s five dollars a load.
Raushanna R — Google review
The mountain itself is great for advanced level to expert level skiers, but the prices here are egregiously expensive. Their lift ticket prices on poor weather days are like $300/day, and it goes beyond $400/day on good days. You can't get on the gondola to access the entire mountain less you pay another $100. You can't even get lunch at the mountain without making a reservation for lunch at the top of the ski hill. The hotel prices at the resort also start at about $700/night and there are no public transit options in town, so you have to pay the excessive rate or pay for an expensive rental car and an expensive hotel/airbnb in town.

Stayed there for the Rut Run. Wonderful hotel and service from front desk , valet, concierge and housekeeping was outstanding. Everyone was super friendly and totally gets the concept of customer service. The location couldn't be better for the run.

MTB trails were a ton of fun, even though we had some shutdowns due to lightning in the vicinity. Trails could do with a little more work to get rid of all the chatter bumps into corners, but those that did have fresh dirt were incredible. Well worth the lift ticket prices for a day on the trails!

One of the best mountains in the U.S, tell your friends it sucked. Great snow, terrain, friendly staff and average pricing. Only issue (which has gotten better) is tram Access. Now its included with a day ticket which is a huge improvement but it should be available on all season passes yes even the green.

Nice and super clean walking trail. Like everything in these area in a super good condition. You just can park in the beginning of the trail. It’s about 30 - 45 Minutes, depending on the amount of fotos you’re taking. Inside the trail it’s a bit cooler, no need of hiking shoes or something like that, normal sneaker shoes can do it easily

Super easy hike! The trail was very maintained and smooth. We saw people easily pushing their baby strollers on the pathway. It's worth stopping to see if you are in the area. The entire hike is in the shade.

This was a nice, short hike. The elevation gain wasn't too bad. There were quite a few people there but it wasn't crowded. The falls at the end are beautiful!

Beautiful hike and gorgeous falls at the end. Easy trails, though some elevation involved. Definitely check them out if you are in the Big Sky area.

Found this great hike & falls heading home from yellowstone en route to Bozeman. What a gem! Nice wide trail, able to walk dogs. Beautiful! It's evident the community came together to enhance this natural falls for a shared safe experience. resource

If you want to get your steps in and explore nature take this 1.6 mile trek to Ousel Falls. A spectacular view of falls in the middle of nature, checks your activity boxes while you stroll up and down on a medium level walk. If you want more steps start your walk in Big Sky Village and at 2 miles. That’s what we did.

Enjoyable and easy trail near Big Sky town center. A little bit up and downhill, a waterfall at the bottom. Nice tree cover.

Beautiful moderate difficulty, shorter hike with scenic views. This is a beautiful hike in Big Sky with a nice water fall at the end. There's some moderate elevation change but it's a very well maintained path the entire way. You follow a stream back up to the falls and get a wonderful view there. Couple of spots to stop on the way and have a picnic. I believe the round trip was about 3 miles give or take. Worth it for a relatively short, easy hike.

Earthquake Lake

Sights & Landmarks
Earthquake Lake, also known as Quake Lake, is a stunning natural wonder that was formed by a massive earthquake in 1959. The earthquake triggered an 80-million ton landslide that dammed the Madison River and created the picturesque lake. Visitors can explore the area's fascinating history at the visitor center and hike along scenic trails to take in the breathtaking scenery.
Now, don't get me wrong, Earthquake Lake is gorgeous. Those towering cliffs, the crystal-clear water... breathtaking! But let's be real, the name kinda throws you off. I mean, you're paddling along, enjoying the serenity, and then you remember, 'Oh yeah, this place got shaken to its core at some point.' Makes you wonder if that serene cliff face might decide to have a little temper tantrum while you're picnicking. Still, gotta admire nature's sense of humor – 'Here's a paradise, but just to keep things interesting, we'll add a touch of seismic drama!'

A Natural Marvel Born of Tragedy. Earthquake Lake, locally known as Quake Lake, is a picturesque yet poignant reminder of nature's raw power, located in the Madison Canyon of southwestern Montana, about 27 miles northwest of West Yellowstone. This stunning body of water was formed in the wake of a devastating earthquake on August 17, 1959. Today, it stands as both a natural wonder and a memorial to the lives lost in the disaster. Formation and Historical Significance: Earthquake Lake was created when a massive 7.5 magnitude earthquake caused an enormous landslide, damming the Madison River and resulting in the creation of the lake. The landslide carried 80 million tons of rock and debris, burying a campground and blocking the river's flow, causing the water to rise rapidly and form the lake. Tragically, 28 people lost their lives in the earthquake and subsequent landslide, and the event dramatically altered the landscape. Geological and Hydrological Features: Size and Depth: Earthquake Lake stretches approximately 6 miles in length and covers an area of about 1,200 acres. It reaches depths of up to 190 feet. Landslide Scarp: The sheer cliff left behind by the landslide is a striking geological feature, illustrating the sheer force of the event. The scarp towers over the lake, providing a dramatic backdrop and a visual reminder of the earthquake’s impact. "Ghost Trees": One of the lake’s most haunting and distinctive features is the stand of dead trees that emerge from its waters. These "ghost trees" were submerged when the valley flooded and now serve as stark, skeletal reminders of the forest that once thrived in the canyon. Ecological and Recreational Aspects: Wildlife Habitat: Earthquake Lake and its surrounding area support a diverse range of wildlife, including deer, elk, moose, and various bird species. The lake’s ecosystem is rich with aquatic life, making it a popular spot for fishing, particularly for species like trout. Recreation: Visitors to Earthquake Lake can engage in various recreational activities such as boating, fishing, and hiking. The area offers stunning views, and the unique landscape provides ample opportunities for photography and nature observation. Visitor Center: The Earthquake Lake Visitor Center, operated by the U.S. Forest Service, offers educational exhibits and detailed accounts of the earthquake and its aftermath. It features displays of geological phenomena, survivor stories, and a viewing area overlooking the lake and landslide area. The center provides valuable insights into the natural history and ongoing geological processes of the region. Accessibility and Surroundings: Scenic Byway: Earthquake Lake is accessible via the scenic Highway 287, which runs through the Madison River Valley. The drive offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, making it a popular route for travelers exploring southwestern Montana. Nearby Attractions: The lake is located near Yellowstone National Park, offering visitors additional opportunities to explore one of the nation’s most iconic natural landscapes. The area around Earthquake Lake is also known for its abundant outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing. Memorial and Legacy: Quake Lake Memorial: At the Visitor Center and surrounding areas, memorial plaques and markers commemorate the lives lost during the earthquake. These memorials provide a place for reflection and remembrance, honoring those affected by the natural disaster. Educational Value: Earthquake Lake serves as a significant educational site, providing insights into earthquake dynamics, landslide geology, and the resilience of nature. It attracts geologists, students, and nature enthusiasts interested in studying the effects of natural disasters on the environment.

Earthquake Lake is the result of an 7.5 magnitude of earthquake struck on August 17, 1959 in Hebgen Lake. It is 6 miles in length with a maximum depth of 125 feet. The beautiful scenary of the lake will captivate your mind. There is a visitor center displaying a Memorial from the earthquake with a plaque of the names of the 28 people who died and the events of the earthquake.

YES, this place is worth visiting, both in summer and in winter! If you are traveling to Yellowstone National Park, make the effort to go a bit out of your way to Earthquake Lake! It takes a little while to drive to, but it is a very unique place! Earthquake Lake was formed not too long ago by one of the most powerful earthquakes in recent Yellowstone history. A landslide occurred, blocking off a river, and the area began to flood. Many people camping by the river died from this event unfortunately, and yet the lake is still here, decades later. Earthquake Lake is so unusual as it still has many of the trunks from trees poking out of the water. These trees used to be on dry land alongside the river, but when it flooded, they died, and just the trunks remain. Also be sure to head up through the pass to see toward Idaho - if you’re there at sunset, it amounts for some beautiful photos. There is a visitor center, gift shop, ample parking, some hiking trails, and various turnouts along the road so you can get some pictures of the lake. It’s worth visiting - I really like it here!

Visited Quake Lake in August 2019 during hols to YNP and GTNP. Though scarred by a tragic event back in 1959 it's amazing to see with own eyes how nature can have its own way. Highly recommend to visit the Lake plus the Lake Memorial Museum. 👌

This is a beautiful place with a magnificent history and stunning scenery! The lake was formed by the quake of 59' that shook the region and changed the landscape. It is a beautiful drive toward Ennis, Montana to dig for garnets and gold in Nevada City or from Ennis toward West Yellowstone, the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. My boys have found petrified wood and lots of quartz crystals here. Even a couple arrowheads. We leave them here but they are still fun to find.

Yellowstone Horses at Eagle Ridge Ranch

Horseback Riding Tours
I came all the way from New Zealand to spend one week to see Yellowstone NP. I did book a few horseback rides through that week. And I was so fortunate to do my first ride with Eagle Ridge Ranch. They are so friendly and attentive. Even not having on their schedule any trotting during the rides they let me do my thing as I have experience riding horses. Of course not disappearing from the guide’s sight and staying around the group. It was fun and super chill environment. If you have experience riding horses that’s the one that they will let you fell free and have some fun. Others ranch are very strict on their policies and they have weird rules (like not wearing a cowboy hat) I highly recommend Eagle Ridge Ranch to anyone whether has experience or not. I was so happy riding with them that I’ve booked a second three hours ride before leaving.
Samuel G — Google review
My wife and oldest took the ride, so this is related to their experience. We were the last ride of the day. We saw a deer laying down in the trail, but were not lucky enough to see larger game. The “tour” was more of a nose-to-tail “walk”, but I am sure that is fine for most families. Before the ride, the hands provided snacks for the horses so everyone could feed them, which was cool. There is fishing, swimming, and boating (in separate ponds) for those not riding. The water was brisk. There is a place to practice roping (not on a live animal, but still pretty cool) The place is as beautiful as you can imagine. We also got to see the horses wrangled right past our car, which I think the hands did for a bit of fun. Nice place, reasonably priced, and options for everyone. The riding part is somehow separate from the ranch in a way I don’t understand, but whatever. The fifth star is not a function of not seeing game, just that it was a little vanilla. If perfectly cromulent is your thing, consider it 5 stars.

Hands down the best guided horse back riding experience I've ever had. I've been to my fair share of them and this one tops it. The horses are happy and well cared for and well trained. The staff is very patient and experienced. Brick was a most excellent guide and gave us a great ride. The ranch they run this out of is breathtaking and huge. You can stay and enjoy the property for an additional fee. It's $15 per person to use the lake which has boats, a rope swing, and a water slide. The also offer archery and skeet shooting. 10/10 best day ever.

Such an amazing trail ride experience! Eagle ridge ranch is beautiful, well-maintained, and run by an excellent, friendly team. Our guide Josie was fantastic—both incredibly knowledgeable and personable! My group was so impressed by her poise and skill in riding and training a brand new house. Nothing short of a great experience, we would definitely go back!

Fun, friendly staff and guides. We had a group of 5 kids and 6 adults with varying experience riding horses. The staff helped the younger children feel safe and made sure we had a good experience. The scenery was beautiful and Hunter and Hailey were very friendly and helpful guides.

Wonderful experience horseback riding with beautiful views, gentle and well cared for horses and a knowlegable and capable guide! All the horses were very sweet. There were some in our group who had never ridden before and were scared, and the guides and staff at Eagle Ranch were able to put them at ease and they seemed to have a great time. The price for 2 hour ride was well below anything you would have paid near West Yellowstone and the trail was mostly in the woods and shaded. Would definitely recommend!

My four kids had the best day here. We did a two hour guided horse ride. My youngest is 6 and was so excited but very nervous. They did a wonderful job as a team, helping her feel comfortable. After riding, my kids spend hours playing in the little lake. They had lots of different water activities to enjoy.

Thank you very much for a beautiful afternoon!! Very well organized and very attentive guides. The cook out was delicious! Especial shout out to the team who payed attention that one of our group is vegetarian and prepared an extra meal for her. We were grateful to be spend the late afternoon at the eagle ridge ranch! We informed ourselves beforehand that the ride would be walking, which can be boring for the experienced riders but most people are not experienced at all. Hence, all good. Our ride was fun and we saw several deers, very close. Seems that they are not afraid of horses. Amazing!

BRIGHT STAR IS A MUST SEE! Playmill always delivers a joy filled and talented production but Bright Star takes the cake. The live music and creative storytelling is top notch. Hannah Thompson and Maggie Christensen are FANTASTIC as the leading ladies; grounded, authentic, and deliberate in their portrayals. Our group of 15 ranging in age from 7 to 55 years was thoroughly engaged and so impressed. Do yourself a favor and catch this production. Not a super well known show by the masses but a WELL DONE SHOW!

I’ve seen all three of their 2025 Summer shows - Bright Star, Little Mermaid, and 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. The cast is fantastic and friendly. The venue is cozy. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a great experience.

What a great fun experience for all ages. We saw the Little Mermaid. The singing and dancing was excellent and on point. Everyone's performances were great but the scene (albeit brief) with the chef stole the show. It was over the top hilarious. What also really added to the performance was the video backdrop. It made it more immersive and also made scene changes very fast which kept the performance moving. When you also consider the fact that they do several completely different shows in a week it makes all of this even more incredible.
Philip M — Google review
I love this place. It’s a cosy small theater with consistently amazing actors and shows. The fudge is great, and I have never had a show I didn’t like seeing here, even if the other productions/medias aren’t interesting to me. I recently watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and even though I thought I might like it a little less it was still hilarious and had characters that really came to life. It’s perfect as a group activity, and if you go, you’ll be quoting it for weeks.
Benson F — Google review
We saw their performance of The Little Mermaid and it was wonderful. The cast did an amazing job and worked incredibly hard performing before the main show, during the show, and even during intermission. A very small theater, which made for an intimate performance. I understand they are moving to a new theater in Island Park soon.

The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, located near Yellowstone National Park, offers visitors an up-close experience with grizzly bears, gray wolves, and birds of prey in a safe environment. This nonprofit organization serves as a refuge for animals that cannot be released into the wild. Through educational programs and interactive experiences, guests can learn about these majestic creatures while observing them in their natural habitats.
We recently visited the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center with our three grandkids (ages 12, 13, and 6), and it was a fantastic experience for all of us! The exhibits are incredibly well done, and we loved how educational and engaging everything was. The kids were fascinated watching the bears forage and play, and seeing the wolves up close was such a rare and memorable treat. One of the highlights for all of us was watching the otters swim and play—so full of energy and personality! We could’ve stood there for hours just enjoying their antics. We appreciated that the animals here are all rescues and that the Center focuses on conservation and education—it made the visit feel meaningful as well as fun. The whole place is thoughtfully designed, clean, and easy to navigate. We also enjoyed the birds of prey exhibit and hearing the call of the bald eagle—what a powerful moment! This is a must-stop if you’re anywhere near West Yellowstone. We all left with smiles on our faces and new things to talk about. Highly recommend for families with kids of any age!

We took our 3 children to visit the Grizzly and Wolf discovery center. We had already spotted 1 wolf and 6 bears wild in the park, so this was a chance to see them up close and learn more about them. It didn't disappoint. It was nice to hear the back story on the Grizzlies, and to better understand why they would be a danger to humans in the wild. They seemed well cared for, fat and happy. Excellent chance to augment your distant photo's in the park with some close up action. Some of the wolves were doing the zoo Pacing thing, (up and down a small section of their fence) which made me a bit sad, but overall we had a great time.
Steven M — Google review
This small AZA accredited facility focuses exclusively on Yellowstone's wildlife. Which means the climate and foliage in the spacious enclosures is perfect for simulating the animals' natural environment! The zookeepers also provide foraging and enrichment opportunities throughout the day so the animals are actively engaging with their habitats and using their brains. Though it is a little zoo, if you stay for longer than an hour you will see at least the bears receive fresh foraging opportunities as they rotate through the display habitat throughout the day. There are outdoor and warmed indoor viewing spots if you visit in winter. The educational content provided by the staff was great - more Yellowstone guests could benefit from hearing and seeing firsthand why it's so important to keep wildlife unhabituated to humans! The admission price gets you in for 2 days so it's a great deal. You can visit after or before you enter Yellowstone National Park two days in a row. If you are a photographer, the bear habitats are backlit in the morning, and the wolf habitats across from them are backlit in the evening.
C M — Google review
While it’s not huge but the experience is incredibly impactful. You could really tell that the staff and organization have a sincere concern for animals. We learned a lot from the exhibits and staff. Special shout out to Tegan (sp) who was so friendly and knowledgeable. It’s nice that this place is a non-profit so you know they’re in it for the right reasons. As a bonus your day pass is actually good for two days so we went back again the second day. Very highly recommended.
Ryan C — Google review
It was great. Some of the animal viewing were closed due to cleaning or construction, but they gave you plenty of notice on their website. The animals are well cared for and seem stress free. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. You get very close to the wolves through the glass, as well as the other viewing areas. All the animals are beautiful. The gift shop is very well priced and offer a lot of choices. Your tickets are good for two days and are very reasonably priced. It is a fun experience.
D B — Google review
It was possibly my favorite thing to do on my week’s vacation to Yellowstone. It was a rainy day, we decided not to go into the park. This place was recommended by the staff at the resort we were staying at. I was very happy and so were my companions. I could not believe how close I was to bears and wolves but felt safe. I have always loved both. It felt like a dream come true. I also love otters and they are there as well. The only animals that we couldn’t see were the ground squirrels and that was because they were hibernating! It was very educational, respectful, lovely. The staff/naturalists were very nice and knowledgeable.
Michelle B — Google review
Worth the stop if it's not too busy! Habitats looked well constructed, safe, and fun for the animals while still giving us a good view. We thoroughly enjoyed the wolves and the otters! They have very informative exhibits to learn as well.

Neat and interesting zoo! The animals were very close and all staff was knowledgeable. Enjoyed the part as you are leaving that mentions and shows how to be bear safe. Very important! Also, we stayed about 1 hour in total and felt like we had seen it all. However, could definitely stay longer to see the different bears come out each hour.

Norris Geyser Basin, located approximately 60 miles north of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park, is the park's oldest and hottest geothermal area. Dating back around 115,000 years, it boasts temperatures exceeding 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The basin is home to the towering Steamboat Geyser, which can shoot scalding water up to 300 feet into the air.
Super Nice tour at Noris Geyser, the museum just before is nice for the explanation, the trail a easy to walk and every Geyser or pool will give you another beautiful picture. Just be aware that might be a bit crowded
Waffelsworldtour N — Google review
Nice stop in Yellowstone to walk around on the boardwalk and see the Geysers up close and personal. Since it's a basin, you walk down, then feel like you're surrounded by geysers in every direction. All of them were pretty active. It's all boardwalks, so it's an easy walk around with very little inclines or declines except when you first walk down.

Symphony of hot springs,in my ranking, Norris can be ranked in the top 4 of Yellowstone's geothermal phenomena. 1. Old Faithful Geyser Group, 2. Grand Prismatic, 3. West Thumb Hot Springs.

The loop trail is full of geothermal features, so prepare for a long walk if you want to see it all. If short on time, you could just take the northern loop which has the iconic landscape

Norris Geyser Basin is one of my favorite places to visit in Yellowstone Park. I normally skip the Porcelain Basin because you can see most of it from the hill. Used to have a lot more water there.

There are two parts: north porcelain basin and south back basin. Plan to spend two to three hours to finish the trails. Easy boardwalk, no shades, bring plenty of water when walking among the steams. Awesome views.

Very cool places, beautiful, untouched nature, majestic geysers and various animals, but I really regret that I only set aside one day for it. I recommend it, but set aside at least a couple of days.

This felt different than the rest of Yellowstone national park. The informational center had a lot of neat facts - like the Norris geyser being one of the oldest studied geysers (and they had a copy of the old report to the show that). Lots of neat fun facts! We were trying to leave and get on the road, so we didn’t venture too far out, but it was cool to check out.

Yellowstone National Park offers a winter wonderland experience with snowy landscapes and unique opportunities for photography. Exploring the park in winter involves using private snow coaches to access the interior, providing views of iconic attractions like the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Yellowstone Falls, and the vibrant hues of Grand Prismatic Spring. These specially designed vehicles offer 360-degree views through large windows and pop-top roof hatches, ensuring ample space for camera equipment and winter gear.
Grand Prismatic Spring totally lives up to the hype…massive, colorful, and surrounded by the coolest microbe mats that make you feel like you're walking through a geothermal painting. The boardwalk is great for a close-up look, but the real adventure started when we hit the Fairy Falls trail. The board walk does not have a guardrail, so watch out for rowdy youths and bouncy adults for that matter.
Whitney L — Google review
Grand Prismatic is absolutely stunning and worth the stop. There are two ways to experience it. You can walk along the boardwalk for an up close view of the hot spring, or you can drive to the other side and hike to the elevated viewing area which is about 1.2 miles round trip. Both are amazing in their own way. Be prepared for the crowds because it can get busy and it’s definitely challenging to get a decent picture without people in the frame. The trees around the elevated viewpoint are also growing taller which blocks part of the view, but the colors of the spring are still breathtaking. I even got lucky and saw a couple of deer during the hike which made the experience even more special. Even with the little challenges, seeing Grand Prismatic in person is an unforgettable experience you should not miss when you visit Yellowstone National park!

This place is definitely one of the spots you want to make time for when visiting yellowstone. There is a nice trail that loops around so you can see the gorgeous colors close up. There is also another trail thats a longer hike that gives you an overhead view. I was traveling with my older parents who cant do much walking and the normal trail was easily doable for them.

A walk along the boarded walkway in this area took around half an hour to complete. The hot springs looked beautifully blue. The soil within the area has interesting cues of brown, orange, pink and grey. This is the largest hot spring in US and one of the largest in the world.

We took the fairy falls trail for the grand prismatic overlook from the top and it was worth the trip. Its crowded in the top because of the limited space but was able to get a good picture of the view. It was soo soo incredible
Neelima V — Google review
Incredible and iconic, this is a top 5 can't miss sight at Yellowstone. We happened to be there on June 21, the day the buffalo died in the spring, and it added an entire new layer of recognition of the majesty and danger of this beautiful but wild place. We went on a cool day - it was about 55 degrees - and the steam off the water made it difficult to see much until the wind blew the steam away. It is definitely a windy spot though - many people had lost their hats in the spring and there is no retrieving them- so definitely hold onto your hats as you explore the boardwalk. Just a note, parking is definitely an issue here. We waited about 30 minutes to get a spot, so come prepared to be patient. Also, it's very cool to see Prismatic up close, but the best view is if you drive a little farther south to the Fairy Falls trailhead parking lot and do the short hike out to the Grand Prismatic overlook.

Todd R — Google review
I wanted to do something special for my wife and I's trip to Yellowstone. I had long wanted to stay in the Old Faithful Inn, after only walking into the lobby to look around on my previous two visits to the Park. I was only interested in staying in one of the "old house" rooms. These are the ones which are part of the original Inn. They have a sink in the room, but no restroom/shower. Each hall has shared restroom and shower facilities. I loved the rustic style of our room, and the Inn. It was very neat to stay in a hotel which was 120+ years old. I found the room to be clean enough (maybe a bit of a stain or two on the rug). The bathrooms were busy at certain times of the day. They also had issues with running out of toilet paper and paper towels. One morning I had an issue with one of the toilet stalls (men's) being wet on the floor. I don't know if a kid had gone in there and really missed the toilet or what. So yeah, the biggest downside for me was the bathroom, but that said, it wasn't a deal breaker for me...and I generally hate public restrooms! The other downside was the fact that it could be a bit hard to find a parking spot in the lot out front of the Inn. My wife and I loved watching Old Faithful from the observation deck. We also loved the evening vibe in the Inn, when folks just sit and hang out in the multi-tiered lobby, listening to live music being played, visiting, reading, whatever. It really made for a memorable evening! We very much enjoyed our stay.

You stay at the Old Faithful Inn for the historical significance and the location, not for a luxurious experience. The lobby is beautiful, and it is fun to enjoy all of the details while sitting next to the large fireplace. Check-in was easy, and we were able to walk to our room quickly. The gift shop was nice, and the second floor patio was great for geyser gazing. I was a little surprised by the amount of housekeeping that was going on when we checked in in the late afternoon. The halls were lined with laundry bags and cleaning carts, which felt a little messy. The room was charming, but very small for our family of four. I did, however, appreciate the size of the bathroom and closet. The room did show its age. It was not dirty by any means, but it did feel old. I also found it strange that the recycle/trash bin sorter was right next to the bed, almost as a nightstand. The room was small, but sleeping next to the trash can is a little gross. The bathroom amenities were nice, and the shower pressure was excellent. The radiator heat was adequate but a little hard to get just right. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Old Faithful Inn. It's pricey, but for one night, the experience was very cool, and you can't beat the location.

Not worth the price, very disappointing stay We booked three nights at the Old Faithful Inn with a communal bathroom, spending almost $800 in total, and our experience was far below expectations. While we knew that sharing a bathroom might be a bit inconvenient, we never imagined that we’d be sharing the same restrooms used by every single day visitor to the Old Faithful Inn, not just hotel guests. As a result, the bathrooms were crowded, dirty, and offered zero privacy, which is completely unacceptable for the price we paid. Our room had no amenities at all, we didn’t expect a TV, but at least a coffee maker or kettle would have been appreciated. When staying at the Old Faithful Inn, you basically have no dining alternatives other than their own restaurants. If you have dietary restrictions, be prepared to struggle: there’s only one restaurant you can really consider, and you’ll need to line up around 4:30 PM to have any chance of being seated by 5:00. The first night, we tried their burger place, it was honestly the worst burger I’ve ever had. From the second night on, we decided to drive 45 minutes to West Yellowstone, where we found much better dining options and a few nice pubs. Also, keep in mind that there is nothing to do in the evenings at the Old Faithful Inn. There’s no Wi-Fi, no entertainment, no games, nothing to keep you occupied after dinner. If you visit during the shoulder season (like early October), there’s no issue with traffic entering or leaving the park. In hindsight, we would strongly recommend staying in West Yellowstone instead: you’ll spend less than half the price, enjoy more comfort, and still be able to explore the park easily during the day. Overall, a very disappointing experience and definitely not worth the cost.

My father and I stayed at The Old Faithful Inn, in their West Wing, 2 queen bed room for their final night of the season. As there was no other lodging open within the park (aside from Mammoth Hot Springs, owned by same company/ same price) we were grateful to get a room, same night. I paid 345$ for the night. Checking in, I learned that there is no WIFI in the lodge. Getting into our room, we learned there’s no TV. The room was clean, and we had our own bathroom/ shower which was convenient. However, everything appeared decades out of date. The walls so thin I could hear distance snoring. Heard things scratching along inside the walls. For what we paid, and what we got, we felt blatantly ripped off. This is by no means reflective of the wonderful staff working at the facility who gave fantastic service right up until the final morning. I do not recommend staying at this lodge. I would have preferred to sleep in the back of the vehicle.

Historical hotel was beautiful to see and location. Reserved a room with two beds and got a single bed in the smallest room I have ever stayed in. Hard to change after getting set to stay. Shower was smaller than a phone both (to age myself) and not clean to the expectations of the price they charge. Dinner buffet was a bit to be desired for the price also. I've had better meals camping. It hasn't been upgraded a bit. We went in mid May and it would have been nice to have some kind of service to keep updated on the weather. Check, but I think Verizon has a contract with the park. I would have gotten a burner phone if I had known. Felt they gave info if asked, nothing more.

Pros: Fantastic location; the Old House has incredible architecture; excellent building tour; lots of varied places to sit and read, chat with people, or listen to the live music; fun to stay in order to explore the space Cons: Rooms in the newer wings feel a bit run-down; the toilet was violently loud; food quality isn’t great; dining options are limited; no Wi-Fi unless you walk to Snow Lodge; they don’t offer a cot for a third family member who needs a bed — instead, they provide a “nest,” which is really just sheets on the floor. Inexcusable. Was glad I stayed here one night for the proximity to park activities, but I won’t be returning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Old Faithful Inn. I love historic national park lodges and this one is wonderful. It is quite different from others and quite unique. Very comfortable w plenty of space and seating. I was a bit disappointed in our small, boring room in the west wing (feels a bit like the servants' quarters). Apparently it is 'historic' as it was added in 1927 (I think) but it has no historic character and is painted a dull yellow/beige. It was clean and serviceable but at over $400/night I was a bit disappointed. In hind sight, I would brave the communal bathrooms and stay in the 'old house' for the character/experience. Otherwise, the staff, dining room dinner and breakfast were great. Food very good. Minimal eating options beyond the dining room. The alternate restaurant has a limited menu. We ate one night at the Obsidian in the Snow Lodge and found it to be quite good.

The Upper Geyser Basin is a remarkable thermal area within Yellowstone National Park, boasting the highest concentration of geysers in the world. It is home to over 150 geysers, including the famous Old Faithful. The boardwalks and trails extend for miles past Old Faithful, offering visitors an extensive exploration of this unique landscape. The basin features bubbling pools with vibrant orange and yellow hues, as well as mud chimneys resembling melted mounds of white chocolate.
Definitely worth checking out after viewing Old Faithful! Tons and tons of geysers and hot pots. The boardwalks provide areas are super accessible. Just hang on to the kiddos!

Come for Old Faithful but stay to explore the whole Upper Geyser Basin. Incredible display of a great variety of geothermal features. Some beautiful, some silly but all unlike anything you've ever seen before. It's like a theme park for geology. There is just no place like this on Earth but Yellowstone. The trail is raised and made of planks to keep you safely at a distance from delicate earth, boiling springs and geysers and, while it's sloped in some places, it's a gentle walk. Also, it's hot here - shocker, right, with all the heat from the Earth's core boiling to the surface? So just expect a warmer walk around here in the summer especially! Give yourself at least a couple of hours to see it all - longer if you plan to hang out to catch some of the less regular geyser eruptions. There's also a great visitor's center up by Old Faithful and of course you should explore the historic Inn. Such a treat.
Lisa G — Google review
By far the most popular and crowded geyser basin due to very famous geysers such as Old Faithful and Beehive. There are guided tours starting at the visitor center with very kind rangers. The basin is located very close to the Old Faithful Lodge, Old Faithful Inn, and the Snow Lodge.
Jhames — Google review
Welcome to the Upper Geyser Basin, home of the famous Old Faithful! Not only that, but the majority of the world's active geysers are located here, too. If you plan on watching Old Faithful erupt, make sure you get here early. The limited benches will fill up fast. There is an Observation Point to view Old Faithful. It's a bit of a hike, but there are fewer people. The Observation Point is roughly 0.8 miles from the Visitor Center. If you want to walk the entire loop, then it is roughly 2.1 miles. I recommend circling the entire Upper Geyser Basin. The entire loop, including the Observation Point, is roughly 4.0 miles (6.4 km). Feel free to go your own path, but I suggest walking up the mountain to the Observation Point, coming down via the Solotary Geyser trail. Then, circle the Geyser Hill before continuing down to the Morning Glory Pool. You then walk the road back to Old Faithful, passing by Daisy Geyser and Castle Geyser. Speaking of which, there are 4 other geyser eruptions you can view other than Old Faithful: Castle, Grand, Daisy, and Riverside! Eruption time and day(s) are posted in the visitor center and online. So, be sure to do your research before heading out for the day!

This review is for Upper Geyser Basin & Old Faithful Observation Point Loop which was a ~4.9 miles round trip that took ~2.5 hours to complete. This was one of those unique hikes with various geysers and pools. The trails are located within walkable distances from the Old Faithful hotels and visitor center. Ideally, it would be best to start the hike early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Most of the trail consisted of flat boardwalks and paved asphalt. The boardwalks were icy in some spots during the morning. Observation Point part of the trail was somewhat pointless because there was no "wow factor" in terms of any view. It was still a nice stroll in the wooded areas, eventually reaching Solitary Geyser. Furthermore, this part of the trail had some inclines and declines. The steam from the geysers have an unpleasant sulfur smell. Carry bear spray; the chances of encountering a bear is lower at popular trails but you never know. Short video of the hike for those interested! https://youtu.be/WJGWI2obiwA

Upper Geyser Basin is a small trail that’s worth taking because at the end you will find Morning Glory Pool which’s good for taking pics consisting of rainbow. But we can actually find a lot of geysers and hot springs in between the trail. During the trail you can find river flowing through which allow us to capture a few decent pics.

The UPPER GEYSER BASIN is vast a geyser basin with magnificent views. If you visit here in May when the weather is still cold and even snowing, the steams are so huge that you won't be even see far away. In the summertime, the steams will be significantly smaller. This basin is the best geyser basin in the park for visit although there are several other geyser basins along the way before you reach this one. This basin is also the closest to the Old Faithful Geyser.
Qizhigang — Google review
Easily one of the best trails in the park. The boardwalk starts at Old Faithful and moves west toward Biscuit Basin. There are actually two path running mostly parallel. The boardwalk is one while the other is a paved accessible path. I. My opinion it's best to start by parking near Biscuit Basin, walking to Old Faithful on the boardwalk, getting lunch in town, and returning on the accessible path. That way you get the comfort of a break and see slightly different views on the return. See my photos for a trail map posted on site.

Hot Springs & Geysers
Old Faithful is a renowned geyser in Yellowstone National Park, famous for its predictable and impressive hot-water eruptions. It was named by the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition in 1870 and has since become an iconic landmark of the park. The eruptions, which occur approximately every 90 minutes, can reach heights of 106 to 185 feet and release thousands of gallons of boiling water.
One of the many natural wonders to be found here. Although there is no wait to "enter" you will have to wait to see OF in full geyser mode. And well worth the time spent. As the NPS says, "Pack your patience." Try to be a good visitor, not a Touron- obey the signs, do not leave the trails/boardwalks, do not throw anything into geysers, thermal pools, fumaroles.
Richard W — Google review
Old Faithful is a Yellowstone classic for a reason — the eruption is unforgettable. When it blasts off, you can feel the power of the geyser in your chest, with steam rising into a bright blue sky. It’s a “wow” moment for both kids and grown-ups. Prediction times around the viewing area are impressively accurate, which makes planning easy. There’s plenty of space to sit, take photos, and enjoy the anticipation before the eruption reaches those iconic heights. I deducted one star for the crowds — they are intense. This is the most popular spot in the park, so expect packed walkways and full seating well before eruption time. It’s still absolutely worth seeing, but it helps to be prepared. Traveler Tip: Arrive early for the best view. If you can, aim for a morning or late-afternoon eruption; the crowds thin just enough to breathe, and the lighting is better for photos. Even with the crowds, Old Faithful is a must-see. The eruption itself is worth every second. If you’re planning a Yellowstone trip and have questions, feel free to reach out — always happy to help out a fellow traveler.

Incredible. On our bucket list! Well worth the wait and worth a visit! Close the both the west and south entrance to Yellowstone NP. Not sure about a summer visit, but we planned our visit for the first week of October. Many of the trees were turning bright fire yellow. The national park is amazing. Love the drive and waterfalls and “smokers” as we called them. But Old Faithful was a highlight. The geyser didn’t just blow…. It BLEW… for almost 5 minutes. I never knew… I thought it would be just one big steam explosion. Nope. It was far beyond that. And the timing. Pretty close to what was predicted. About every 90 minutes. Lots of lots of bench seating. Great drop off place for those who struggle with walking would be pull in to the Yellowstone Old Faithful Lodge. Pass up the check in drop off area and go straight toward the end of the curb. It’s as close and you’re gonna get to the viewing area. You could almost watch from the car. But it’s a very easy short walk to the benches. Not to be missed!!!!

Amazing experience for my son and I, amazing experience. Highly recommend to at least stop in and check this thing erupt. Inside the visitor center there are times given when this will erupt and it's pretty accurate within plus or minus 10 minutes. Was not overly crowded and the whole area was awesome to check out.

The trip was filled with amazing views and experiences. The interior circle drive requires 4 hours to complete and will not disappoint. We saw bears, bison, moose, eagles along with the eruptions of old faithful geyser. The side road drives allowed us to see beautiful views of the river and rapids.

4.5/5 Stars: Old Faithful, Yellowstone I recently visited Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park, and it was an unforgettable experience! This iconic geyser is a must-see attraction, and I was impressed by its majesty. *Highlights:* - *Impressive Water Show:* The eruption was truly breathtaking, with water shooting high into the air for around 2 minutes. The sound of the geyser erupting was exhilarating! - *Predictable Schedule:* I waited around 20 minutes for the eruption, which is relatively short compared to the maximum wait time of 90 minutes. The park's prediction system is quite accurate, making it easy to plan your visit. *Tips:* - *Check the Schedule:* Plan your visit according to the predicted eruption times to minimize wait times. - *Bring a Jacket:* It can get chilly while waiting for the eruption, especially in the mornings or evenings. - *Respect the Environment:* Stay on designated boardwalks and follow park rules to preserve the natural wonder. *Overall Experience:* Old Faithful is an awe-inspiring natural wonder that exceeded my expectations. The wait was worth it, and the eruption was a thrilling experience. If you're visiting Yellowstone, Old Faithful is a must-see attraction that will leave you in wonder.

Visiting Yellowstone’s Old Faithful area was an unforgettable experience. The boardwalk trail takes you past a stunning collection of colorful hot springs and geysers, each unique and mesmerizing. Of course, the highlight is Old Faithful itself—it erupts with impressive power and beauty about every 90 minutes, and it’s amazing to watch the steam and water shoot high into the sky. The entire area is well maintained, easy to explore, and filled with natural wonders at every turn. We used a stroller to carry a 4 years-old around the trail without any problem.

Old Faithful is one of those places that truly lives up to the hype. Watching it erupt is a powerful experience, but what really took it to the next level for me was seeing it at sunset. The sky turned orange and pink, and the steam from the geyser caught the light in the most beautiful way. It felt like the whole area was glowing. The eruption itself is impressive—predictable but never boring. It shoots up with such force, and it’s even more magical when you’re surrounded by the colors of the evening sky. The area around Old Faithful is also really peaceful in the evening. There are fewer crowds, the temperature starts to cool down, and the whole experience feels more personal. There’s a nice boardwalk and plenty of viewing space, so it’s easy to find a good spot. I definitely recommend staying to watch an eruption close to sunset. It adds a whole new layer to the moment, and the views are absolutely stunning. If you’re visiting Yellowstone, make sure to plan your time so you can catch Old Faithful during golden hour. It’s an experience I won’t forget, and it’s one of the best moments from our trip.

What can you add that hasn't been said. Other than go to see the big geysers like Old Faithful and Steamboat early in the morning or late afternoon. The hours between 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM are absolutely insane because of the number of tourists trying to see them on bus service

Five stars for the park. ONE star for the road safety. Please, please ban bicycles from the roads! It's dangerous for the riders to be out there where they can become prey, but worse for the drivers of the cars. Even when traveling at or below the speed limit there's nothing worse than coming around a blind corner and encountering a moron on a bicycle in the middle of the road. We were traveling with our F250 and travel trailer and almost had several accidents because of these fools. We had to emergency brake FOUR different times to avoid a bike. That's not easy to do when traveling at 35 mph with a 15k pound rig. It doesn't stop on a dime. The people behind us had no idea it was coming and couldn't see anything except our trailer. I'm surprised we didn't have a car in our camper's living room! We even encountered big tour groups of them - including kids no more than SEVEN years old! That the heck are people thinking?! That yellow triangle doesn't make it safe for those kids!! Somebody's gonna get killed. I know if I have to choose between running my family into an oncoming tour bus or hitting a bike - that biker is going under my truck.

Upper Falls in Yellowstone National Park is located on the Grand loop road close to Hayden Valley and Canyon Village depending from where you are coming. The parking lot size is pretty decent with restrooms. This is the Yellowstone river which drops to the upper falls and then drops again to lower falls and finally flowing through the canyon. The view of the gushing water is a great spectacle. You can also feel the mist on your face.

Huge fan of waterfalls and the Upper Falls certainly did not disappoint! Haven't made it to the Grand Canyon yet but the ravine coming away from the falls has to resemble it on a small scale. The falls themselves were really beautiful and the scenery in the back drop were out of this world. There were some neat hikes to it as well which is always a plus!

During our trip to the park, we drove around searching for a nice spot to see Yellowstone Lake. We finally found it when we arrived at the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center. This spot offers the opportunity to walk around the beautiful shoreline and enjoy the vastness of Yellowstone Lake. We were stunned by the size of the lake and its undeniable beauty. At this spot, you can see the endless blue lake stretching out before you, providing breathtaking scenery. Yellowstone Lake is the largest high-elevation lake (above 7,000 feet) in North America, covering approximately 136 square miles (352 square kilometers) with over 110 miles (177 kilometers) of shoreline. It sits at an elevation of about 7,732 feet (2,357 meters) above sea level. After seeing it for ourselves, it easily became a must-see destination that we would recommend to anyone visiting Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone lake cover 136 surface miles and it is the largest high elevation lake in North America. Interesting fact is that there is no fishing allowed from the “fishing bridge” since 1973. Yellowstone Lake runs through numerous parts of the park but we found the best view to be on East entrance road. I would highly recommend Steamboat Point picnic ground for awesome views of the water during a stop for lunch or dinner. Steamboat is just a mile or so east of the fishing bridge. Enjoy.
