National forest
Nature & Parks
Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, located in the Siuslaw National Forest, is a paradise for adventure seekers. With 40 miles of wind-sculpted sand dunes, it offers opportunities for activities like sandboarding, ATV riding, and hiking. The area also features beautiful coastline for beachcombing and picnicking. Visitors can explore the stunning natural scenery surrounding Reedsport, including the Umpqua River and Winchester Bay.
Great Day adventure. Be warned state police have a station in this park and they are everywhere, including on 4-wheelers and in buggies. Very clean. Plenty of bathrooms. Places to clean your catch nearby or shuck some oysters if you find yourself wandering on the beach across the street. We look forward to another adventure at the dunes.
Diane E — Google review
Amazing Sandscape Adventure at Oregon Dunes NRA (Florence, OR) The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area near Florence is an absolute stunner with endless wind-sculpted sand dunes that roll seamlessly into forest, lakes, and the ocean. A perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty! Eclectic landscapes—sand, sea, forest, and lakes all in one massive playground. Towering dunes (up to ~500 ft) great for hiking, sandboarding, or OHV rides. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side when we visited and it was very cold, windy and foggy but it was still an amazing experience Tips: -Bring layers and sun protection sand reflects sunlight hard! -Check trail or dune activity maps; some areas are seasonal wildlife zones. -Start early to beat wind and heat, especially if you plan to climb dunes.
Amin S — Google review
Hauntingly beautiful. I highly recommend renting dune buggies and taking a jaunt - but be careful not to get lost. The place is like being in another world. It's amazing.
Valerie — Google review
Very beautiful The bathrooms were clean The beach was nice And plenty of areas to sit under shaded trees

Beautiful and very convenient spot for family outing .This is one kind of spot where one can play both in sand and water

So much fun! Recommend to go on a weekday or off season as you get the dunes all for yourself 😊

The Oregon Dunes were our first stop when we got to the beach on this trip. Heading over the dunes and seeing the Pacific Ocean never disappoints.

Lots of options to pull off and visit. Many companies ready to provide service, rentals, etc. We took an exit and found a river too.

Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area

The ladies were out lounging in the field when we arrived. Easy to access from the highway, and lots of parking, but we went on a weekday. Great for people with mobility issues, flat and lots of benches near viewing areas. There was also a cow hanging out with the elk, she seemed pretty chill ☺️
Holly W — Google review
This was an unexpected pee stop that turned into an amazing experience. The educational cards are very detailed and well organized, and the herd of elk was so beautiful and majestic. Within thirty feet of us a herd popped out of the tall grass and started grazing right in front of us, definitely had to stop and view for a few minutes.
Karissa B — Google review
I visited on July 22, but didn’t see a single elk at the time. Still, the wide open plains made it a perfect spot to pause and take a break from driving. The rest area features informative displays about elk and the local history, making it a worthwhile and educational stop. I recommend dropping by on your way back from a trip along the Oregon coast.
Kai D — Google review
Beautiful sprawling low land where the elks graze, sleep, raise their young and thrive! I've seen packs of males with incredibly huge antlers. They can come as close as on the road, so please slow down. There is a public restroom, plenty of parking and easy turn around for big trailers. There is also a resident bovine if you're lucky enough to see it! Enjoy and please don't litter.
Maryn C — Google review
RV Friendly Parking! Very nice viewing area… so glad there was ample parking for us as we are traveling with our 40 foot 5th wheel. We saw a herd of Elk in a beautiful setting. We also were glad they had nice clean bathrooms…
Allison W — Google review
What a great way to see the elk herd up close! I would suggest going earlier in the morning as they move towards the woods once it gets warmer. We parked in the side of the road and they were very close!
Rebecca R — Google review
Grateful viewing point area. Sometimes the elk herd is close by, sometimes they are further away. Nonetheless, though its a great experience and a great stop to stretch the legs while traveling.
R R — Google review
We had been looking for elk and found a whole herd at this viewing area! Added bonus was bathrooms and signs detailing the elk, birds and flora.

Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum Giftshop & Coastal Visitors Center

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
19th-century white brick lighthouse with adjacent Coast Guard museum, tours & gift shop.
I had no idea this was the only lighthouse that you can go inside of in Oregon! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and all the staff were very kind. The inside of the lighthouse is beautiful and well kept! It was really cool that they let you go up part-way into where the red lenses for the light are. Definitely recommend!
Angelina J — Google review
Beautifully restored lighthouse. The volunteers do a great job giving the tours. They have an art gallery also with lots of great stuff from local artists. The lighthouse is amazing to visit at night and see the light shining bright.
Vinnie's B — Google review
They offer an educational tour of the lighthouse, it was fun to see inside and climb to the top. Museum is small but is well done with interesting displays. The volunteers in the gift shop were a bit frustrated because it was so busy and they were short with people. Tour guides should be trained and not expected to just read information from notes. There were many questions they could not answer. Overall, a great stop and be sure to take time to do the tour.
J L — Google review
What a great lighthouse and museum. Not only can you learn a lot about the history of the area that you can go into actual lens section. Not sure there are many of these left in America so visit it while you can.
Kris K — Google review
Pretty great place to look over the ocean! It's an iconic spot to stop if your basing by and the sunsets are beautiful this time of year. Highly recommend come up here and enjoying the view if your in town
Westin O — Google review
Amazing place. Highly reckmmend getting the lighthouse tour. The volunteer provided us with a lot of information. The tour literally takes you inside the lighthouse lens at the top and yes, its operational, not retired.
Trip B — Google review
Great lighthouse with a red light! And you can go inside tower! Cool gift shop with food and ice cream! Neat museum included with admission of $8

Beautiful place. Take the lighthouse tour for only 8 dollars. Visit the gift shop and get some fudge or cookies or breakfast. They have many things.

Ko-Kwel Casino Resort | Coos Bay

Mentioned on

Casino
Fun & Games
Nestled where the Coos River meets Coos Bay, The Mill Casino • Hotel & RV Park offers a range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. With spacious rooms and an array of dining options, it's not just a casino but also a highly rated place to stay. Guests can enjoy slot machines, table games, and sports betting. The hotel provides excellent service and comfortable accommodations for conferences as well.
Beautiful hotel and view. Loved my room. Low key casino, nice people. Fun to learn about the Ko Kwel Tribe thru art and signs around the building. Nice gift shop. My wish would be for a few more vegetarian and healthy food choices. Mostly pub food offered. I had fish tacos which were decent.
K M — Google review
This place is fine if you want to over pay for an average room (thats being generous). Nothing special about the parking lot view from the tower room. If you want a late check out, that'll be an extra $50 for an hour. Gaming floor is limited on variety for slots. They dont seem to have the more popular games and the ones they have are super tight. Room was mostly clean except for garbage left by house cleaning. Dining at one of the only 2 options for food left less than a satisfactory impression. $20 for a prime rib French dip with thinly sliced, frozen meat(the equivalent to steakums) was very underwhelming. I expect better for the money I am paying. This feels like a 3 star property masquerading as a 5 star. Won't be coming back. You could do better than to stay here.
Jay C — Google review
Had a great stay for 2 nights. The food was really good A+. Everything was super clean and the staff was awesome! Having been in casino frequently in the last decade, I did notice the new style slot machines did pay out very well. Also, noticed there was not a lot winners.
Donald J — Google review
Two stars for cleanliness, nice staff, and location. Everything else was disappointing: • There's no soundproofing (at least in the Lodge area) of the hotel. We could hear every word of our neighbor's TV - as well as their conversations. And another room played loud music until 12:30 AM. • The machines were TIGHT. Despite four hours of play, we walked away with nothing. It appeared other people were having the same issue. • The bathrooms were awkwardly laid out. The sink was outside of the actual bathroom - and the shower and toilet were incredibly close together (so much so that the door was hard to close). • There were no coffee makers in the rooms. This was a major inconvenience and forced us to go three floors down just to get a cup of coffee. For $200 per night, there are much better casinos. Skip this one.
Nic — Google review
Stayed at The Mill Casino • Hotel & RV Park and had a comfortable experience overall. The property has two separate hotel buildings: the newer tower and the original lodge. The newer building offers more spacious, modern rooms — definitely worth the slight price increase if you’re looking for comfort and updated amenities. The lodge has undergone partial renovations, so some rooms feel a bit dated, but still clean and decent for the price. Great location right on the bay, and it’s convenient having the casino and restaurants nearby. Just be sure to confirm which building you’re booking if room style matters to you.
Marcus H — Google review
Everything about this resort is great with the exception of their beds. For $250 a night you expect a decently comfortable bed. Instead we got a mattress that hat felt like we were sleeping straight on the ground. We will not be coming back to the hotel portion of this resort until they’ve managed to make it to where the customer doesn’t have a neck back and shoulder ache the next morning from sleeping on their beds both me and my wife felt the exact same way
Jason R — Google review
We had a wonderful week staying at the hotel. We had a room with a bay view and it was lovely. The staff was very accommodating and super nice. The pool and spa was perfect for our visiting family too. The casino was okay. They allow smoking and the machines are very tight. Otherwise it was a great stay. Also, this is a great place for handicap folks as everything is level.
Cindy A — Google review
We didn't stay we stopped for lunch. Casinos are not as I remember. So quiet, no excitement, everything electronic. We had fish and chips in one of two restaurants and it was delicious Cod.

Shore Acres State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Coastal views, formal gardens & trails at day-use park open till dusk daily; no dogs & parking fee.
I wish I could give this place a proper review. There are gardens here, many hiking trails, as well as the dramatic rocky coastline. People come here during the worst winter storms to watch waves smash against the rocks, generating 50-foot spray. The way the rock outcroppings in the water are situated, they are basically ramps to allow the big waves to smash and get launched in the air. The day we came was very calm, but I could imagine just how incredible it would be to see this during a big swell. The geology of this area is very interesting, hard volcanic rocks and formations are embedded in softer sandstone, so there is this interesting contrast and strange growth patterns to the rock. It was something unlike I've seen before along the coast. Very cool, fun to explore. Unfortunately we didn't spend much time further inland where the trails are or the gardens, but they are supposed to be amazing, and very well kept. We'll have to come back someday and explore more of what this park has to offer!
Allan R — Google review
This state park offers scenery so stunning it’s hard to put into words, along with top-notch infrastructure. One important note—dogs are not allowed here, so if you want to explore the gardens and coastal views, you’ll need to leave them briefly in the car. The sight of waves crashing against seaside rocks, the mist rising from the surf, and the sound of the ocean create a mesmerizing atmosphere. The walking path overlooking this scene winds through wide, open lawns that feel both beautiful and majestic. Just when you think the view can’t get any better, the trail leads you to an unexpectedly charming botanical garden. After spending time there, I browsed the gift shop and wrapped up the visit. I absolutely plan to return in another season—and this is a must-visit destination I wholeheartedly recommend.
Kai D — Google review
Nice state park off the 101. We spent about an hour here walking trails, exploring the beautiful botanical gardens and admiring views of the nearby ocean. We went to the overlook and observation building. Restrooms were clean and tidy and there was plenty of parking. Saw birds and deer (a doe and two fawn).
Frances S — Google review
It’s been on my bucket list to visit Shore Acres State Park during King Tides.. and I finally got to! It was a beautiful sunny day, but even with that, the waves were super impressive. Could only imagine the wave action when it’s stormy! There are plenty of little paths to take and explore, other than the view points most people stand by to get photos, a gift shop with great items and nice people working in it, and even a botanical garden. We spent a few hours here total, but can’t wait to go back again. Thank you for having us. 🌊🥰🫶🏼
Kathy R — Google review
What a gem of a place Shore Acres is. It was so beautiful but also quiet today (since we got there quite early). The rhododendrons are in full bloom but the roses are just budding. Will have to come back when they’re fully bloomed. Still. Just a magnificent Oregon State Park. Love that it’s so close to the ocean. Just up the way there was a great viewing area for pupping harbor seals, elephant seals, and sea lions. Today the water was particularly blue.
Wen G — Google review
Wow, I didn’t realize such a beautiful place existed on this part of the Oregon coast. What an amazing garden, and the view from the viewpoint is stunning. And for the most part, a person in a wheelchair can traverse the grounds, though some of the trails have a good deal of tree roots. Even the $10 entrance fee shouldn’t deter someone from seeing this place - it’s that good!
Allen W — Google review
Wonderful gardens and gift shop/ visitors center at Shore alAcees State Park. The gardens can be enjoyed in a leasurely half hour stroll and include many types of flowers and plants, there is also a Japanese style pond with Koi fish. The gift shop has a large selection of souvenirs. Fee to enter is $10 per vehicle but is well worth it.
R&C — Google review
Well kept grounds, interesting flower variations and the pond is picturesque. I also enjoy the rose garden and the short hike to Simpson Beach

Cape Arago State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Headland with sea views, a picnic area & cove trails leading to beaches & tidepools.
Great place to hike. Love the views. The road is closed going farther into the park because of erosion under the road but should be fixed in a month or so. You can still get to the other parts of the park by foot. I recommend walking on the road on your way back for a faster trip back.
Isabella — Google review
This is a pretty awesome State Park. There's a variety of areas that you can actually visit. The State Park itself is where the beach is at and it has a variety of picnic tables as well as fire pits even and a restroom. But further up along the drive, there's actually a few different viewpoints where depending on the day and the time you can find people at telescopes who are watching sea lions, otters and other variety of sea lions creatures. It's incredible to see the amount of sea lions that were there. I was amazed to see that many. Further up along the drive you'll reach the end point which is a huge scenic area. As you can see from some of the pictures that I uploaded, there's quite a few here. There's a nice walking area around to look at that lets you really capture in the breath of God's creation there. Honestly, if I'm ever in the area I will come back here again as it's an easily accessible Beach wasn't too crowded and has some great views over the next time I come though it won't be as windy.
David B — Google review
Nice little stop! Picnic tables under shade trees and lots of seals out on the distant rocks! You can hear them before you see them! Short walk out to the end of the point and views off of each side!
Frances S — Google review
One of the most beautiful Oregon coast experiences. From the drive in to the views at the point. You can't get to the ocean at the point but you can at the day use and campground area. There is also the gardens that have views and amazing gardens.
Troy R — Google review
There are actually several named State Parks in this part of Coos Bay, for whatever reason. Cape Arago is the southern end of the Parks. We didn't hike any of the trails that went inland, and stuck mostly to the immediate shoreline. Most of this area is a hundred feet or more above the water, so getting down to the shore usually requires hiking down relatively steep, but short trails. The views from the main parking area are nice, but there isn't a whole lot to see. We did climb down one of the steep sandstone cliffs to get a bit closer to the water but not all the way down. A few people have made up their own trails down, but obviously these are not maintained or sanctioned. A quick stop if you're doing a driving tour of the area.

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Coquille River Lighthouse, a charming red-and-white structure dating back to 1896, is a must-visit during the summer months. Located in Bandon's Old Town area, visitors can enjoy strolling through independently owned shops and restaurants offering everything from fine dining to casual seafood joints and pubs. The riverfront boardwalk provides picturesque views of boats, a unique sculpture garden, and a public crabbing dock where visitors can rent gear and cook up their fresh catch.
This is a cute little lighthouse. It was open with a small gift shop inside. There is a small trail along beach that wraps around to parking area. Yons of driftwood lining the trail. Lots of places to get to beach
Christina M — Google review
Interesting bit of local history but if you expect to see anything but empty old lighthouse you will be disappointed. The circular stars to the tower are closed as we were told they are unsafe. The room that held the fog horn and equipment to produce steam is now a small museum . Very nice volunteer staff who answered questions. Some photos of when it had been surrounded by water or was in use would have improved the experience.
Ross A — Google review
Loved this scenic and historic stop on our day trip! The gift shop was quaint and the shopkeepers were super friendly and lighthearted.
Edythe W — Google review
Short walk from the parking area to the lighthouse, which was open at the time, and contains a gift shop. Cute lighthouse with waves lapping at the rocks below. Though the lighthouses have been made obsolete by GPS they are a treasure to be protected for future generations! Make the visit while you still can! There are vault toilets and picnic tables at the parking area. Beach with a ton of driftwood near by and a jetty you can walk out on, just use caution, we made it about halfway down before I got too nervous to continue. We will come back!
Frances S — Google review
Fun weekday visit! Scenic setting with friendly volunteer staff. Free admission but donations were welcomed.

Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint

Mentioned on

State park
Nature & Parks
Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint is a picturesque waterfront park in Bandon, Oregon, offering stunning views of the rugged sea stacks and arches along the coastline. Legend has it that one of the sea stacks resembles the profile of a face, adding to its allure. The viewpoint provides beach access, picnic tables, and opportunities for whale watching. Additionally, visitors can explore tide pools within the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge nearby.
Fair amount of parking, huge walking area at high or low tide. (Better at low tide to see starfish clinging to the bottoms of the rock formations). TWO wizard hat shaped rocks. Great view from the parking lot if you can’t go down the stairs. The sand was firm here which is easier for walking on. Kid friendly and dog friendly. There was a bathroom at this parking lot but I didn’t use it.
Leslie A — Google review
This is a nice viewpoint. Stopped here on my way back to coos Bay. Really appreciate the restrooms here. They were nice and clean and very new and updated. The parking lot looked like it was freshly striped. If there wasn't as much wind, this would been a far more enjoyable. View stop for us but with two little ones under two there really wasn't much opportunity to take in the fuse. There's lots to see here and apparently a trail that leads down to the beach. As you can see, there's even some horseback riding that goes through this area which in and of itself is impressive. I love to come back and revisit this place when there's less wind. It's definitely worth checking out if you have not been there yourself
David B — Google review
We were there on a perfect sunny day with the tide out so we could venture into the rock and check out the tide pools. Sea Stars, Sea Anemones, Crabs 🦀 and more.
Weston W — Google review
Great little beach area with some explorable sea caves. You can avoid getting wet in the caves if you come during low tide. The beach can be quite cold and foggy, be sure to bring footwear equipped for sand as well. Don't forget your sunscreen!
R&C — Google review
Very scenic place with lots of neat rocks/boulders. Neat time to visit is during low tide so you can wander around the base of the rocks and see sea life in the tide pools
Adam B — Google review
This was so cool once it was explained to me which rock it was. It's the white colored rock in the back. Envision the left part as a forehead. It will look like a head tilted toward the sky. Maybe it should be called Head Rock.
Sheri B — Google review
One of our favorite viewpoints along the Oregon coast. Yes, it does look like the head of someone floating in the water! Lots of other striking rock formations here too.

Absolutely wonderful! These animals are really well taken care of and given lots of care and attention. The staff was very nice, and the grounds were impressively clean. I can't wait to go there again the next time I'm in Oregon! I'm from South Dakota. This beautiful safari and petting zoo was a big star standout on my last trip. Love it!!!!!!

Visiting from WA for a road trip, Pretty cool place to visit a bunch of different animals & interact with them. You can buy food to feed them but it can get a lil overwhelming with them surrounding you especially for kids but it's fun They brought out the baby camel and some type of cubs that were just born. Mostly every exhibit had something in it. More than what I thought there would be Be prepared to step on pebbles of poop everywhere from all the roaming animals haha
Mariah B — Google review
Lots of deer and straight haired sheep (looked like goats to me) that follow you around for food handouts. Our timing wasn't great as the big cat handler wasn't available. We got to pet a baby camel (2 months old), a fox, chickens, goats, and big rodent (don't recall the name). Yes, you'll get poop on your shoes, which should be expected.

I absolutely love it here! ❤️ I have been visiting here since I was young and finally made the trip with my own little ones, my siblings, and parents! It was such a wonderful trip. The kids absolutely loved interacting with all the animals. Especially getting to pet the big cats & small critters. Of course the goats roaming around were a big hit as well for my kids!

It was fun. Animals were happy and friendly staff was well educated on Animals and the lady in charge was amazing cool gift shops the deer and goats come right to you and we got to pet a few Animals.

Front desk was very short with us and very rude. Wasn’t a ton of people there but the “viewing” of the baby bear and jaguar was very frustrating. There is a large obvious zigzag chain line and everyone is supposed to move through so people in the back of the line can get a chance to see and take pictures as well. The keeper doing the show didn’t seem to care that there was kids in line that didn’t get to watch or see and all the rude parents didn’t bother to move and keep the line moving. The big cats looked very “rough”. I’m not an expert by all means but the tiger was throwing up and most the others looked very lethargic. The cages are very small. The free range animals including deer, goats, sheep, chickens, alpacas and more were fun for the kids to see and touch up close. For my family to go it was $129, I don’t think I’ll be coming back just for my kids to experience a petting zoo. Edit 5/20/25: Seeing the recent news about the raid, I found it odd I gave 2 stars to begin with. I always had bad vibes about this place and even asked Portland zoo where I could complain, as the animals seemed to not be in good health or conditions. Very sad to see these animals suffer and die, I hope the responsible parties are held accountable and get what they deserve.

A must stop off Hwy 101. Staff Is fantastic- friendly-Awesome. George the Chimpanzee is my friend of over 12 years. Lucifer the Black Jaguar recognizes my daughter. Great opportunity to pet animals.

Looks like animal welfare violations (and possibly some issues with the IRS?) caught up with them. Parking lot is closed off with crime scene tape, and full of police. FWS and Humane Society are on site with trailers- looks like the animals are being relocated to better facilities.

Headland jutting into the Pacific Ocean & the 2nd most westerly point in the contiguous US.
This place will insure that you leave knowing just how harsh the Oregon coast can be. The cold wind coming offshore will insure that you will. Incredibly beautiful place!

Went to surf perch fish, but ocean was extremely angry and wind was insane. Surf wasn't very conducive for fishing. Fished there before on calmer days, great fun

Beautiful drive to the cape, with fog rolling in and over you - eery to say the least. Quite a walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse due to left side of the road that caved in. Cool view of the Needle Rock jutting out of the fog.

Love Cape Blanco. Great horse trails/horse camping, regular camping and all around nice day trip up to the lighthouse.

Lighthouses
Landmark, whitewashed lighthouse offering history tours, sweeping ocean views & a gift shop.
We love Cape Blanco. It was sad to see the lighthouse closed, but hopefully repairs will be done so it can reopen soon. Still a great hike and many people out flying their gliders in the coast breezes.
Lisa B — Google review
It was worth the drive and an interesting history display in the gift store. The lighthouse is closed for tours inside. However, the area around the lighthouse is beautiful with short trails. I would recommend the Cape Blanco State park campground close to the lighthouse.
Christopher W — Google review
Lovely place to visit! Long walk to the lighthouse from the parking lot, if we hadn't been walking most of the day, we would have done it, but we were exhausted, so took a few pictures and left. Make sure to visit the pioneer cemetery on your way in!
Frances S — Google review
A unique place to see you can't go inside the light house anymore due to some structural issues (sounds like they are trying to save the light house). The volunteers were very informative and helpful they even showed us pictures for the light as it is now even though we couldn't go up inside. One of the oldest continuously operating light house in Oregon. We even saw a bald eagle on the beach on our short walk from the light house.
Ashley M — Google review
The State Parks in Oregon that offer camping do a good job of it and we particularly like Cape Blanco. Peaceful and lots to do here. Nice beach or headland walks both north and south of the campground. Also good hiking at nearby Blacklock Point and the Port Orford Heads. It’s our favorite park in Oregon. The lighthouse is a classy one and enjoyable to visit.

Beautiful lighthouse in need of support to get fixed! Volunteer at the visitor center/ gift shop was friendly and knowledgeable. Open seasonally, so check before you go!

Walk from the parking lot to the Light house is a short distance. Unfortunately it was foggy so I didn’t see much of the coast but the lighthouse was still visible . It’s a nice place to stop along the coast to break up the drive .

Prehistoric Gardens

Prehistoric Gardens is a small but well-maintained tourist attraction featuring lifelike dinosaur models set in an ancient temperate rainforest. The attraction offers visitors the opportunity to explore a carefully painted path that winds past bubbling creeks and lush ferns, all while surrounded by hanging moss and the sound of falling rain. This is an ideal destination for families with young children who will delight in seeing the dinosaurs up close while getting some exercise in the great outdoors.
I’ve come here since I was a kid and it never gets old. It’s truly an Oregon coast gem and it’s been around for 70 years. It’s such a cool piece of property with so many different plans, trees and of course life sized dinosaurs. Highly recommend!

I'm so happy that we stopped in with our grandsons. The park is beautiful and worth the time spent. The lady working was not so friendly. We did not know that the gift shop was the end of the tour. She was clearly aggravated with us and had an attitude. Even when trying to go over the rules with the kids. All in all, we think this is a fun place. -Regina

Total tourist trap. It’s really pretty, and my kiddo loved it, but parents should be free. It’s really small, the walk is short, and it’s not worth the price. Just take a photo with the T-Rex in front, go into the gift shop if you want, and move on.
Elizabeth W — Google review
We found this quirky roadside gem while driving down Highway 101 and had to stop! There’s a cute dino-themed gift shop and a short trail full of delightfully cheesy dinosaur sculptures, took us about 20 minutes to walk through. Such a fun, nostalgic stop and totally worth it if you’re cruising the 101!
Mariah S — Google review
The prehistoric creatures are in no way realistic, but I went in knowing that. The dinosaurs are very retro and a ton of fun. Additionally, the setting was absolutely gorgeous, a rain forest of ferns and mosses skunk cabbage and tropicals with massive leaves. Enjoyable for adults, and if you have children then definitely take them!

Beautiful area full of history and mystique. I was there on a foggy morning so it adding a lot of spooky coast ambience. Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor

State park
Outdoor Activities
Scenic Drives
This forested coastal park with a trail & beaches offers picnicking, fishing & hiking.
The Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor is hands down one of the most breathtaking stretches of coastline I’ve ever seen. Every turnout reveals another jaw-dropping view—rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and dramatic sea stacks. It feels like stepping into a dream. Short trails lead to unforgettable photo spots, and the ocean air is invigorating. You could spend hours here and still be amazed. A must-see on any Oregon Coast road trip. Five stars without hesitation.
Richard H — Google review
Drove along the Samuel H. Boardman scenic corridor with a rental car. So many stops and trails along the way! My favorite was the not so “Secret Beach” was a steep way down to get to it and an even steeper incline going back up. Make sure to wear proper shoes, but so worth the amazing views! There is a waterfall that lets outs into the ocean. One of the most beautiful places I have seen! Came back for a nice sunset.
Nathalie S — Google review
Several places to stop along this scenic corridor. Whaleshead Beach was where we spent our day mostly. There are plenty of rock formations to view while walking the beach. Some access to viewpoints and the beach access along this part of Hwy 101 are harder to get to so read signs. There are plenty of facilities and parking along the way. There were lots of rocks to fill your pockets, but we didn't find any agates. Nice section of the Southern Oregon coast. Strongly suggest spending time at each of the viewpoints for a great sight-seeing experience.
Brian S — Google review
Very cool hike! Took about 30ish minutes from car and back with two labs. I highly recommend checking out. The hike was moderate. Lots of beautiful vista's seen from the cliffs. Be very careful though because a slip or a stumble could send you over.
R. M — Google review
Great hike. People have died here so there are signs blocking off the hike, but we did it anyways, just down to the part before the trail crosses the rock. I wouldn’t cross the rock bridge, as it’s not safe with the waves. Lots of poison ivy in the area so pay attention on the trails.
Maja R — Google review
An absolutely gorgeous stretch of the Oregon coast! You can easily spend a couple of days exploring all the spots and discovering some new ones! My favorites were Natural Bridges and Secret Beach, but we also checked out Arch Rock, Lone Ranch Beach, and Cape Ferrelo for an amazing sunset!

Great Cats World Park

Wildlife park
Nature & Parks
10-acre park housing exotic wild cats (including lions, tigers & leopards) & offering guided tours.
me and my partner decided to stop here on a whim after our trip to another nearby animal sanctuary. and wow we were blown away, the staff here was knowledgeable- and answered any questions we had on the cats. and the animals all looked super healthy and well cared for. this was honestly the highlight of our trip.
Rebecca D — Google review
This was a fantastic experience! Super informative, the cats were all very active and the tour guides were very fun, knowledgeable and you knew they loved their work. Also great because you can jump in and out of the tours at any time. We stop at most attractions we see on the road and this was a 10/10 for us. Our boys are 6 and 4. They both enjoyed it ,too!
Michelle S — Google review
Remarkable and one of a kind place. Staff are friendly and respectful. Staff are knowledgeable and admission comes with a free guided tour! As you are guided, they throw treats and the animals usually become more active and you can see them feet away from you and its crazy. Some of these animals only exist in captivity now or are severely endangered. Come see them and support! Gift shop is also awesome and this place is super kid friendly for the family!
Louis V — Google review
Didn’t realize there are tours- there was a note on website about getting to park a few hours before close and the tour is the reason why. The tour was great taking you through the park providing information and taking any questions on each cat that is on exhibit. By taking the tour you should be able to view each animal up and walking because they are provided food. Without the tour most cats would be sleeping in their favorite shade spot. No added cost for tour. My only concern is the larger cats may not have the amount of room a zoo would provide. All the animals appear to be healthy. Plenty of shade and water misters provided for both animal and tourist. Plenty of parking and a large gift shop.

Decided to visit Cat world. Staff was very friendly. Very clean. Cats looked healthy and had plenty of room. Well maintained grounds. Small gift shop. We did self guided tours. Siskiyou Smokejumper Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
Our Venturing Crew visited this museum before we headed to a tour of the Oregon Caves and we lucked out! We had a wonderful tour guided by an alumni of the school. He had amazing stories and answered all of our questions with patience and good humor. After talking with him further, it turned out that there aren't guides there at the museum every day and it was pure luck that we got him all to ourselves. Thank you to all volunteers, because without them the information presented would be less engaging. Thank you for maintaining this location. It's important to understand where our communities came from.
Brett A — Google review
Great experience. This place is full of real equipment used by the actual smokejumpers and tours are by real smokejumpers. Lots of history and good information. Highly recommend you stop here.
Mitchell B — Google review
We had a very knowledgeable nice guide who had been a smokejumper out of 'The Gobi' and in Alaska. He answered our questions and presented various pieces of information. We learned so much! This is a great museum that used to be an actual smokejumper base that is operated solely by volunteers. Stop by and visit this wonderful place! Although entrance is free, donations help them maintain and pay expenses. Thank you for the guided tour!
Becky E — Google review
Excellent “gem” of a museum! 100% authentic – the grounds, the buildings, the displays, and our tour guide – who is an actual smokejumper and Vietnam Vet who served 17 years at the Siskiyou base! I concur with previous reviewers that "Mr. Gary is a living legend!” This type of opportunity to view history so up close and personal is rare. The tour is free. However, donations are greatly appreciated. They also sell some t-shirts and souvenirs to cover costs. (bring some cash in case their internet is down) Give yourself about 1-1.5 hrs depending on how many questions you have. If no one’s at the museum during posted hours, just call the phone number on the door, and volunteer will be there shortly to show you around. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity if you are traveling on US Route 199 near Cave Junction OR. P.S Don't miss seeing the "Moon Tree" on the grounds while your there. Story involves an astronaut and seeds "from the moon."
Jim T — Google review
Smoke jumper museum, technically "open" but all the doors were locked with a phone number to call if I wanted to see the actual inside of the museum. Walked around and did the walking tour and there are several placards with interesting information. Nice place to recognize those that have fought fires and kept people and lands safe for many years.
Hazel C — Google review
We took our homeschool group on a field trip here. Gary was a great host, explained so much and answered all our questions. It was very interesting, a piece of history I never knew existed. Great for kids 8+ years, but even the younger ones seemed to enjoy it.
Bethany K — Google review
So glad we made this stop. Within a few minutes of arriving, Gary arrived and gave us a very thorough history, along with many personal stories. Much of the museum is maintained by volunteers (former jumpers, or their family), so its small but passionate. We stayed for ~1.5 hours, with a small gift store selection at the end of the tour with a donation box.
Claire B — Google review
This museum was very interesting and informative. The personal guide was a retired smokejumper from that location. It doesn't have an admission fee and is dependent on donations. I would go back given the opportunity.

Harris Beach State Park, located just north of Brookings, Oregon, is a picturesque state park named after Scottish pioneer George Scott Harris. The park boasts a stunning coastline with rocky outcroppings and sea stacks, as well as Bird Island, the largest island off the Oregon coast and a National Wildlife Refuge that serves as a breeding ground for rare bird species like the tufted puffin.
This place was beautiful! You walk down a green and lush paved walkway surrounded by berry bushes. Then, the walkway turns to a dirt walkway full of roots and stones. Then, the foliage opens up to a driftwood littered beach and the imposing ocean! So gorgeous! Perfect for a stroll, a picnic or just family time to hang out and play in the sand.

We have been here twice and camped in a tent in C6 and C8- 6 is best! This campsite has always been full of good natured people and families and the amenities are wonderful as well as the rangers and hosts. I think you will love it as much as we do. It does get very damp on the coast so be sure to bring a water proof tarp for over your tent!! The beach is amazing with lots of sea-life to discover and rocky trails to climb. Highly recommend this campground.
Stephanie M — Google review
Beautiful little spot to spend some time at the beach. Seems to get a little crowded at sundown as people enjoy the view. We used the day use area several times over a few days and accessed a different part of the beach each day. Found star fish and other marine life at low tide. Family friendly. Flushable toilets and picnic benches. We visited over Memorial Day weekend and it wasn’t too crowded.

Such beautiful weather this year. This is our favorite spot to camp in Oregon. The seascape is unique. Oh and especially the backdrop during the sunset hour is really spectacular. We will come back here every year if we can.

Beautiful state park and campground at Harris Beach! A mixture of full hookups, water + electric, and rustic sites. Most are very generous spaces with vegetation surrounding for privacy. The bath houses are well equipped and maintained. Loved having a fire ring for the evenings. Great little beach at the park with interesting rock formations and tidal pools. There are some walking trails and the campground is close to Brookings (only 15 min walk to town). Will definitely come back here when we are next on the Oregon coast!
Emily P — Google review
It's a nice beach from which to watch the sunset. The plentiful rocks in the water add to the dramatic mood at sunset. The beach itself is ok, seemed a little messy. There's a lot of driftwood and sea detritus on the beach (stinky kelp and seaweed) and it can get flooded with large ponds due to the profile of the beach. There's also a creek that drains across the sand which you have to cross, and while I'm hoping most of the runoff in this part of the world is clean, I don't know what kind of stuff drains here, from street runoff and so forth. Can get busy, there is a campground here so people will often set up tents and canopies to occupy an area all day.
Allan R — Google review
Beautiful campground right by the water! We love staying in the yurts. Bathrooms are well maintained and so is the whole park.
Jagdev — Google review
As our first visit to Oregon, Harris Beach State Park immediately became one of the best state parks our family has experienced! It truly deserves 5 stars. The location is fantastic, with the beautiful beach just a quick 5-minute walk from the campground – perfect for our morning strolls and watching the sunset together. For hikers like us (and our dogs!), this place is paradise. There are plenty of fantastic, dog-friendly trails right within the park, and even more amazing hiking options just a short 20-minute drive away. We wwere absolutely blown away by the nearby redwood forests – truly unbelievable and a must-see! We stayed in Loop B, space 11, and found it to be wonderfully large and comfortable. While backing our 39ft rig in took a little maneuvering, the space itself was great once we were settled. For whoever looking for those truly premium spots with jaw-dropping ocean views, definitely try to book sites 20, 24, or 25 – on Loop A, they looked incredible! A huge plus for us, especially since I was working remotely, was the T-Mobile 5G coverage – it was surprisingly strong and reliable throughout our stay. It made handling work tasks seamless while being surrounded by such beauty. While we love using our Starlink, the excellent 5G meant we didn't need to set it up this time. For fellow Starlink users, it's worth noting that Loop B might be challenging due to potential obstructions from the gorgeous, super-tall redwood trees. Loop A, particularly spots along the main road with clearer sky views, might be a better bet if Starlink is your primary internet source. SIDE NOTE: We noticed a family nearby, clearly new to RVing, really struggling to back their trailer into their spot. After watching them try for about an hour with dozens of attempts, we decided to offer a hand, even though you sometimes hear it's best not to interfere. They were incredibly grateful, and it felt good to help them get parked up so they could finally start relaxing. We really believe there's nothing offensive about offering help, especially when someone is visibly having a tough time. So, to our fellow RVers reading this: if you see someone struggling, particularly newbies, please consider offering assistance – it can make a world of difference and fosters a wonderful sense of community!

Azalea Park, spanning 33 acres in Brookings, is a beloved green space with a rich history and an array of recreational amenities. Named after the ancient native azaleas that have been meticulously restored, the park offers picnic areas, sports facilities, and paved walkways for leisurely strolls. Its significance dates back to the time of Lewis and Clark's expedition, adding to its allure.
Lovely park. Absolutely outstanding holiday light show. We returned the next day so my grandsons could enjoy the playground. It is very clean, no bark chip and huge. The nearby restrooms were also clean. We frequently stop at this park on trips up the coast.

I went to this park to visit the Capella by the Sea. The chapel is a small A frame building with a view of the ocean and harbor. The chapel was reserved for a special event so I only had a few minutes to walk in and look around before I needed to be out. The park itself has a small trail that winds through the trees and was a nice enjoyable walk. This park also has a playground and a disc golf course that looks like it would be fun as it is in and out around the trees. All in all it was a nice visit.

Nice little park with room for kids to play and parents to walk out sit and relax. Could have used more seating in the shade, but we were there on a warm day. The park has lots of amenities like basketball courts, ball fields, the Kid Town play structures a gazebo and off course, the Capella structure that is pretty amazing. Just wish we could have gone inside but from the vandalism in other parts of the park, I can see what they have to keep it locked up! They also have restrooms and lots of grassy areas.

*fenced kids play area *disc golf *restrooms *garden path/flowers *fun water fountain I really enjoy this park on any regular day but also really love all the events held here like the music festival and the Christmas light display. Absolutely beautiful and a must-see. True wonder of nature! We went and walked on the Grove of Titans trail, which is about two miles total. They ask that you stay on the trail (because your footsteps can damage the forest floor) and there are some raised metal walkways because of this. Though there’s a lot of roads and trails, it’s still a good idea to be prepared. There are countless areas where there’s no service, roads are dirt and are extremely narrow (but there are turnouts/shoulder areas where you can pass). BRING WATER AND SNACKS! It costs $8 per car if you park within fee areas. The parking lot by the Grove of Titans trailhead was free, and there’s a restroom there as well. Absolutely amazing. Even within five minutes of our hike, a deer walked across the pathway. Didn’t seem to mind humans. It’s worth a visit! Also, if you get the chance, visit the Smith River — the water looks like glass.

Absolutely surreal and euphoric! Walking among these ancient redwoods feels like stepping into another world. The towering trees, peaceful trails, and crystal clear Smith River make it a truly magical experience. Far less crowded than other parks; pure bliss.

Easy parking. A day pass can be purchased with a credit card at the ranger station, that one day pass is good for parking at any of the many parks in the area. I’d take cash with you for that Self parking situation, you can fill out your own ticket and put money in the hopper at the signage by the restroom, which also has a map. If no cash you will have to find that station I’m talking about. Easy parking, kid and pet friendly. (Pets on leashes) Absolutely gorgeous at every turn. The location used for filming the Ewok Village for one of the Star Wars movies is close by. A ranger can give you an idea of where. We hiked and got in the river. Bring comfortable walking shoes and you will need shoes if you plan on entering the water, it’s all rocks and difficult for to walk barefoot.

Amazing in every way. I recommend doing the Boy Scout Tree trail first. It’s the longest, but well worth it. The trail has tons of roots and hiking boots would be preferable. The Boy Scout tree is easy to miss since it is off the trail. It’s on the right side of the trail before you get to the waterfall.

Lovely park. Great walking trails. Clean park and friendly checkin at the kiosk. It loses a star because the bathrooms and showers are gross. Shower takes 4 quarters for 2 min. of water. There is no change machine like there is at other State parks. The drain was clogged/slow and water filled up the entire changing area. Very muddy and dirty showers and bathroom stalls.
Julie G — Google review
The drive into the park on Howland Hill Road, right up close and through the redwoods, is one of the best forest drives that exists. It becomes one lane at times, meaning you will need to coordinate if other cars are coming, but it is worth it as it is as it is close to the trees as you will ever get in car and helps preserves the immensity of the forest around you. Visit the park as early as possible to avoid seeing other cars and hikers. We went right at sunup and were one of the only ones there. We hiked the Grove of the Titans and Stout Grove and it is impossible to explain how amazing these old growth redwoods are to someone who hasn't seen them. Pictures can't really do them justice as they can't capture the feeling they invoke when you are really confronted with how massive they are. The park is well kept and the hikes we did were well marked and very peaceful in the early morning. The trails and drive out did get much busier with people and cars as the morning wore on. I thought the additions of the metal platforms and bridges on some of the trails was useful and did not take away from the surrounding nature. If they help preserve the undergrowth, I'm all for them. All in all, a great park to see the redwoods which should be on everyone's list of things to do.

Must see! Truly one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been. The Redwoods are absolutely massive, and no photo can capture how incredible they are in person.

Stout Grove is a picturesque woodland area located in a state park, offering a scenic hiking trail surrounded by ancient redwood trees. The grove is easily accessible from Howland Hill Road and is considered one of the best and most pristine trails among the four combined redwood parks. Despite its short length of less than one mile round-trip, Stout Grove offers an immersive experience with unique features of each towering redwood tree.
Photos just can’t do it justice. This was one of our favorite hikes on our family trip to the Redwoods State and National Parks - the trees were incredible, and the path was easy and level — perfect for families with littles, seniors, or those needing to take it easy. It took us about 45 minutes, stopping to take lots of photos!

The highlight of our trip. Visited Oregon. A local recommended visiting here. This was the highlight of my mother/son vacation. Saw our first banana slug :) video attached!

This place is AMAZING! The natural beauty is jaw dropping. The path is easy and family friendly. There is a bathroom at the beginning of the trail. This is a must when visiting the Redwoods.

Great hiking area. Easy loop path. Some steep hills, but short hills.

Semi easy trail with river access, on difficult spot is the very beginning/end where you go down hill and obviously have to go back up, but this or lady bird grove were my favorite spots in the national park
Dillon D — Google review
Easy trail. Very family friendly. Took the kids. I would even say you could take a wagon. The only part you might struggle is getting it down to the river. The river was a nice destination for the kids to play in. Would recommend!
Siinng P — Google review
Nice trail, easy to walk, the grove is very nice, lots of large trees clustered in a small area, good views of a mature redwood forest.

Ok to be real I didn't explore the end where you park. It was the drive there that I loved. Several places to pull over and explore. Hollowed out redwoods from lightning strikes, trails and the river. So many hidden gems. So don't go from point A to point B. Play in the middle.

The Trees of Mystery is a captivating tourist attraction located along -101 in Northern California. It boasts massive statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, making it hard to miss from the highway. Visitors can explore the Trail of Tall Tales, featuring chainsaw-cut figures accompanied by recorded stories, set against towering redwoods. The attraction also offers a SkyTrail gondola ride through the treetop canopy, various trails including one that allows walking along a canopy, and unique tree formations.
Looks like a tourist trap, but it is a whole lot of fun. I would say its a must visit in the area. The gondola and canopy bridges are a very thrilling experience. The place is super clean and very well maintained. Trails are immaculate, and the place is great for any age. There is a giant gift shop as well. Expect to spend 2+ hours here.

I really love this place. First it’s really clean, bathrooms , trails, every place is tidy. The views of the redwoods in my opinion is better here than any of the other national and state parks. The price is great for everything you get. This is a gold mine of experience. They have a fun skywalk and gondolas. Also they have fun facts about the park throughout. Don’t hesitate, just come visit.
David S — Google review
The Trees of Mystery in Klamath is the perfect place to experience the Redwoods if you or your loved ones are not able to hike the area. Whether due a physical challenge, logistical confusion, or financial impediment. The trail is easy, the stairs and steeper areas are only a few steps in length so it's an easy breezy "walk in a park". The rope bridges are a cool engineering feat. Crossing them requires some faith in math, science, and good workmanship. The height of the bridges can feel dizzying, but what a rush - taking that first step on to a suspended rope bridge, then putting one foot in front of the other and making your way from one side to the other. I drove a long way for that and couldn't be happier that I did. I was a little skeptical about spending money for a "Tree Park" when there are miles and miles of Redwood forest surrounding you in that area of the area/state/continent/world. But I had visited when I was a kid in the late 70s. I was thrilled to get a GIANT yellow "TREES OF MYSTERY" sticker. I thought it was so cool but I couldn't tell you why! I took it with me as our family moved all over the world. For years it decorated my bedroom pushpin wallboard, and I remembered the giant Babe and Paul carvings. But the park didn't have the rope trail or the gondolas when I last visited and the tickets were SUPER reasonable. Almost like they WANT to teach people about the redwoods not just profit from it. So I had to go back and see how the old park was doing. It was worth every dollar. The price included the short gondola ride up the hillside AND the rope tree trail section. The gondola windows are pretty old and weathered so they're pretty difficult to see out, but you do get to go to a tree top deck. There are amazing views of the tree tops the hillside, and the ocean - and a great perspective on just how super-tall these trees grow. Don't leave without going into the gift shop and checking out the Native American history/anthropology museum. It's an enormous collection. Many items that I've never seen before. Building tools, household items, clothing, hunting equipment...a great way to immerse yourself in what life might have been like for long ago inhabitants of the coastal forest area. I took waaasy too long picking out another ridiculous looking sticker from the gift shop but my campervan has a little sticker wall and it seemed like something I had to do. If you've got an hour or two, take the time to stop here!! I planned my road trip around it.... WHAT CAN I SAY? I'M A FAN!

Fun Place. The sky tram was closed, but the tree canopy trail was super fun. Lots of cool trees and carved wood figures throughout the park. The giant Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue Ox were awesome. Cool place overall. Fun experience.

We loved our time at Trees of Mystery! The $30 pp seemed steep, but it really includes everything in the park and you can stay as long as you’d like. We saw pretty much everything in a couple hours, including the gondola and bridges. We loved the stories and history on the trees, and the Paul Bunyan carvings were fun. Lots of photo ops and I’d say very kid friendly. I appreciate that we didn’t have to sit in the gondola with strangers and just enjoyed it by ourselves. Huge beautiful old trees to appreciate. It wasn’t too busy on a Monday morning.
Hannah T — Google review
I thought the $28 entry fee seemed high when i got there, but it ended up being a great value. not only a way cool hike, but a awesome rope bridges way up in the trees and then a Gondola ride included. it was awesome! we had a great time 👍
Mxraceguy — Google review
There is so many wonderful things to do as a a family here. There is the sky walk , interpretive trails, and the sky trail ride that takes you to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view of the area. The walk through the attraction is mostly uphill but offered seating areas to rest. If you are wheelchair-bound or have severe mobility issues I do not recommend the trail through, however they do have a shuttle that will take you to the sky Trail so you can still enjoy some of the attractions. It took us about an hour and a half to get through . It was really fun and we would go again.
Tracy W — Google review
It can get a little crowded, would recommend going earlier in the morning to beat the crowd. Also wouldn't take the wildness trail from the top of the gondola it was very steep and not much different from what you can on the other trails. Great time and happy we got to bring our dogs! $30 / person

The Klamath Tour Thru Tree is a popular tourist attraction located at the northern end of Redwood County. It features a massive redwood tree with a drive-thru tunnel carved out of its trunk, allowing visitors to experience driving through the tree. Despite being scarred by a forest fire and losing its top to a storm, the tree stands as a living monument to its storied past.
The excitement of being to drive your truck through a tree is amazing. I do wish there was information about height, and width and age of tree. I love that it still survives. Another tree history picture I'll attach.

We were so happy to have found a thru tree! Signs were clearly marked from the highway all the way to the tree. The gift shop was closed when we arrived. We were pulling a trailer so we parked at the bottom. There was not anyone around, we donated our dollar and continued up the hill. Some people would think it is a bit steep but- just do it!! Thanks to the owners of this private property to allow the public to continue doing this! It’s unfortunate some people do not have any respect and decided to carve their names into the tree.
Samantha L — Google review
Super laid-back experience. Maybe we had good timing because when we arrived, there was no line to pay to drive in. Sign said "$5.00 admission fee. We've stepped away for a moment. Just drop $5 in the box. We trust you." One curve, then a Y-turn to position our vehicle to drive through the tree... Snap some photos and we were on our way a few minutes later.
Golden P — Google review
We were driving down the 101 and decided to visit really quick. There was no wait. Paid $5. It is a smaller tree. So Bigger trucks and SUV’s might not fit. All in all it took us like 10 minutes total, we took some photos and were on the road fairly quick again. Nice and maintained.
Eric L — Google review
Way cool. A small car can drive through the tree. On the up hill side, look up your under a Myrtle Wood tree. Definitely worth while.
Randall H — Google review
I have always wanted to drive through a tree! When you arrive you pay the $5 entrence fee (cash only) and drive right in. The road is a bit narrow so go slow in case there is another car coming down. If you have a car bigger than a Honda Civic I would not recommend it since our mirrors were almost touching the sides.
Ruth I — Google review
I thought this was a bit corny until I actually did it. Actually driving through this thing is testament on how enormous they actually are. It does make you nervous - your mirrors are going to give before that tree - but I watched a Denali try to come through. He would have made it, just, but he pulled back at the last. I don't blame him. We have a Jeep Compass - I was sweating bullets but my wife, who was taking the photo, said I had plenty of room on either side. Didn't feel like it. Must have been though because she demanded I take another turn through with her in the car. I did.
Anthony P — Google review
Great find! We enjoyed this stop to drive thru a redwood tree. Be sure your vehicle fits first, we saw a full size SUV fail. Great photo op. Please pay attention to the entrance information and pay the $5 admission fee. This is private property. I'm sure it costs to keep it looking beautiful. We saw two vehicles drive up and fail to pay. Loved this stop! ❤️

Redwood National and State Parks is a vast woodland system that houses some of the largest and tallest trees on earth. The parks offer numerous opportunities to explore ancient forests, as well as the wild coastlines of northern California. With 73 discovery points, visitors can embark on short hikes through the redwood forest to witness remarkable sights such as the Grove of Titans and Bull Creek Flats. Adventure seekers can enjoy dirt roads and scenic routes through Humboldt and Mendocino backcountry.
Such a unique park with so many things to see and do aside from the big trees! The area/park is huge! Runs for over an hour north and south. Plan for a couple days! Get your reservations for the two timed reservation area of the fern canyon and tall trees! Drive around the area! Go to the scenic view points! Go to the beaches! Walk among the trees! Eat and stay at the nearby towns! Visit all the visitor centers! Take it all in! It’s one of the best parks out there!

This is a must see for all families and anyone who appreciates the outdoors. It's amazing to see these giants reaching into the sky. Some of the bases are well over 10 ft wide. Let's hope the next several generations will be able to visit and enjoy this, instead of it being harvested or die from pollution.

Some huge Redwood trees located in this forest. Only seen in California to Washington. Worth taking a drive there if you are going through the area. Thousands of them in this area. Enjoy the big ones that take 40+ years to get that size.
Orrin H — Google review
One of the best hiking and camping trips I’ve done. Photos don’t do justice to how monstrous these trees truly are in person. You feel like you’re walking through a real Jurassic Park. Truly amazing. Mother Nature is astonishing.
Theo E — Google review
If you only think of this as a National Park with big trees, you are missing out. It is also a great ocean park with great beaches and Roosevelt Elk walking amongst the waves. Fern canyon is epic as well, one of those hikes you will never forget. Plus, there are many great drives, overlooks, wildlife, river activities, campgrounds, and trails. Top all that off with the tallest trees on earth. Underrated, you will be hard pressed to find a park more enjoyable.

Definitely worth visiting, 2 days will allow you to see the highlights of the park. All the visitors centers have friendly staff. Fern canyon was well worth seeing. Depending on when you go you do need a reservation for this. The views are breathtaking and it’s amazing to see all the redwoods. Scenic routes are a must for this national park and well worth your time.

It's been quite a few years since I've been to the Redwood National Park. We did the hike from the visitors center to the BIG TREE. I love these huge beautiful trees. I do think that there's a lot more downed trees then last time and wish (hope) that the state would do a better job of forest management then it looks like they are doing. We should do everything we can to save these forests for future generations.

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, located north of Ferndale, is a vast park known for its 75 miles of trails, campgrounds, and a visitor center nestled among ancient redwoods. The park is home to the famous Roosevelt Elk and Fern Canyon, which was featured in 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park.'
Amazing camping spot and hiking spot. Booked it just for Fern Canyon and it didn't disappoint. Went twice just to see what we missed. Was worth it both times. The first time we went hiking not too many people the second time, more than before. Be prepared for the cold water. Bring boots if you go in the winter and spring months. Summer months probably less water, but I'd still bring them.
Kali K — Google review
It really ranks as one of the best state parks you will ever visit. Where else can you possibly see giant elk on the beach next to ocean waves. Fern canyon is a once in a lifetime experience. Plus, giant redwoods on a scenic drive. It has a wonderful combination of views, drives, trails, and wildlife. Overall, the best stops in the greater Redwood park system.
Wyatt P — Google review
This park has so much to offer. From camping to hiking to wildlife viewing it's all right here. I've been visiting here for over 40 years. The staff at the information center can help you find the best activity to match your interests. But I'd recommend Trillium Falls or a hike along the trails adjacent to the Drury Parkway to get a taste. If you want more, and have the time, hike or drive to Fern Canyon. Personally, I like to hike the James Irvine Trail to get there. The trail will take you through some majestic and ancient groves of redwoods. The Elk Prairie campground is a good place to camp. Some of the facilities are a bit old. But the location is hard to beat. You'll likely see Roosevelt Elk in the prairie meadow. Give them plenty of space. Particularly during calving season (May-June) they can be aggressive.
Tino P — Google review
Great park! The information center when you first arrive is extremely helpful. Parking can be tight at some of the trails but parking along the main road has plenty of space. Big Tree wayside was my favorite. There's a good number of people at the beginning of the trail but once you start walking more than 10 minutes you're by yourself. Its absolutely gorgeous.
Austin — Google review
Gorgeous. Went today. Big Tree trail was fabulous, following the creek, falling leaves everywhere, ferns everywhere, so much moss and greenery. Thick forest that provided shelter from the rain. The air was damp and cool and smelled lovely. Exactly as I imagined the redwoods would be. Saw Bear scat but no bears.

Beautiful area up north with plenty of campgrounds and things to do. The air is so clean you can taste it. Everyone is so friendly and the campground was fantastic! Its a long drive but on US 101 it was a beautiful drive with VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC. I have made this an annual trip.
Ben W — Google review
Wow so beautiful the trail was easy with a few obstacles one of the best hikes we have been on in the redwoods kid friendly five finger ferns waterfalls on moss. We saw elk just walking out of the parking lot at the beach. You do need a permit easy on line to get.
Tracie B — Google review
Amazing park. The small visitor center staffed with experts and park lovers really made this place shine. The ranger working the desk was very helpful in suggesting trails that would maximize our enjoyment based on our own perceived fitness and hiking level. The trails themselves were filled with the awesome inspiring redwoods - the air was so fresh I felt younger by the minute and absolutely giddy while taking in the enormity of these trees. The trail maintenance is amazing - I think you could almost take a wheelchair on many of these trails - so smooth. Watching a YouTube is one thing but being here is a full experience. You hear the wind rushing through the leaves, smell the fresh air, see the trees and the wildlife, feel the breeze - its a sensory experience, almost overload but in a good way. Highly recommend

Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail is a 1.4-mile scenic trail located in an upland redwood grove, dedicated to the environmentally-minded former First Lady. Situated north of Ferndale, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is renowned for its resident Roosevelt Elk and Fern Canyon, which was featured in 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park.' The grove offers a rare view of a ridge-top redwood forest with diverse understory plants such as rhododendrons and ferns.
Excellent 1.5-mile trail round-trip from the parking lot. Feels like a leisurely stroll. One of the must do hikes in the Redwoods. It is an easy, peaceful, and tranquil trail threw the trees. The forest at this elevation is super lush, supporting an understory of smaller trees and plants. Plus, the ground is covered in ferns in most places.
Wyatt P — Google review
Scenic trail surrounded by towering redwoods and elevated views that give a different perspective compared to lower groves. The walk is easy and accessible, making it suitable for most visitors. Interpretive signs along the trail add context about the forest and its history. Parking is limited, so arriving early helps. A peaceful and memorable stop.

Great hike!! There were about 10 of us ages 55 to almost 80. We all really enjoyed our hike. Limited parking but we all found a space. The rest rooms were a plus. Everything was clean and neat from the parking lot to the trails.
Joy A — Google review
Magical! There is a reason this is one of the most visited trails in the park. There are so many ancient redwoods, spectacular rhododendrons when in season. The trail is flat and wide, easy to hike for all ages and abilities. GO IN THE MORNING FOR THE BEST EXPERIENCE. Beware: this parking lot will fill up at peak hours during the summer. Also- the road (Bald Hills Road) is not in good condition. You will have to share this narrow road with logging trucks. RVs are not recommended.
Michelle B — Google review
An easy, beautiful hike through redwoods and rhododendrons. It's a good hike for most ability levels, with only a few hills, and a wide, level path. It leads past some particularly big redwoods, some of which are hollow, and depending on the season there are all kinds of wildflowers.
Claire C — Google review
Absolutely amazing. Loved that the kids are allowed to play and climb on the trees in this area. It is a short easy hiking loop. Lots of great photo opportunities.
The F — Google review
This hike gives you a different visual experience than the other redwood forests in this region. There are less fallen trees and a greater change in its topography than other locations. What makes this hike even more unique than others, is that it gives you very close access to the trees themselves. On top of that, depending on weather conditions, the trees can be covered in clouds, making this experience very special.
Greg R — Google review
You have to see the Redwoods to really appreciate just how huge these trees really are and this grove is absolutely spectacular! The road to get there is quite steep but it is paved. There is parking but it can be limited depending on how many people are doing the hike. There are restrooms on site as well. The trail takes you through some beautiful stands of trees and loops around back to the parking area. It's very much worth the time to wander through it!

Sue-Meg State Park, formerly known as Patricks Point State Park, is a picturesque oceanside park located in the heart of the California redwood coast. The park offers tidepools, campgrounds, a visitor center, and a Yurok plank house for visitors to explore. It provides well-maintained trails that lead through lush forests with changing seasonal colors and scents. Visitors can enjoy whale watching, observe sea lions, and witness beautiful sunsets along the rugged Northern Coast.
Formerly Patrick’s Point State Park, they recently changed the name but everything else is the same. Been coming here since the 90’s: this small state park is very special and unique. Being on the coast it doesn’t have the redwoods like Prarie Creek to the north or Humboldt to the south but it is gorgeous nonetheless. Hunting for agates and rocks on Agate beach is amazing, the coast trail is relatively easy and not super long but there’s a lot of side trails to explore. Wedding rock is picturesque and the cliffs are very rugged and awe inspiring. Honestly I’ve never seen tide pools here but they say they have em. We spend most of our time hiking or at Agate beach. This year we saw a bald eagle. The campgrounds are hard to score and have mixed reviews. We stayed in abalone campground this time and found it nicer and more private than the others, you could hear the ocean waves crashing all night which was cool. It can be cold and foggy here so dress appropriately, but that’s part of the charm.
Davoud K — Google review
The park is quite lovely and we have made it a new annual tradition to camp here. The individual campsites vary widely, from open and airy to closed off and secluded. The Sue-meg village tour is very worth checking out. Staff is always friendly as well.

Beautiful Park. We did not have enough time to spend there. We were only there a few hours but it was so beautiful. A short walk down a nature trail to the beach.
Jeremy S — Google review
This is one of the parks you have to pay to get into...$8.00...and it is worth every penny. We trekked down the hill to Agate Beach, where, if you choose, you can take up to 15 pounds of Agates with you...we did not. Even though we were there when the tide was fairly high we still got to enjoy some tidepools with starfish and anemones. There are many trails available and beautiful viewpoints throughout the park. We really enjoyed our visit.

My favorite state park on the coast! The ceremony rock was so unexpectedly magical. I’ve stayed at both abalone and agate campground. I preferred abalone. Agate beach was phenomenal. I love all the outcroppings & over looks. Super walkable. The raccoons are WAYYY to friendly and not at all scared of ppl. We had several in the trees around us each night & we’re very tenacious trying to sneak into camp.

Nestled just a stone's throw from downtown Arcata, the Arcata Community Forest is a serene haven that spans approximately 790 acres of breathtaking natural beauty. This regional park boasts an extensive network of well-maintained trails perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. As you wander through this enchanting forest, you'll be surrounded by towering redwoods and lush greenery that create a picturesque backdrop for outdoor adventures.
Beautiful forest for the community. Love the trails and just the peace that I get going there.

This place was magical! I did not expect it to feel so large and look so beautiful!

A beautiful Redwood forest nestled in City limits. Easy access to tranquil trails and exciting mountain biking. Something for everyone from relaxed to extreme jumps. One of the best city parks I've ever been to.

Gorgeous little forest in the middle of Arcata, CA. The trails are well maintained, and admission is free. The forest is clean, and dogs are allowed. Mountain bikers are also welcome. There is a small parking lot in the entrance of the forest, but beware, there are only 6 spots. Other than that, you will need to park in the streets nearby. I highly recommend this forest to anyone that loves nature and outdoors activities.

Really liked that the trails were clearly marked and well numbered. Need to come back with a bike for the bike trails.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Great day for outside chill time. Vendors selling their handmade masterpieces. Nice vibe On the walking path, however... there were two small little rods of steel sticking straight up about 1 inch out of ground. My wife kicked them and almost fell. No warnings, cones, etc...to notify the public of danger. Could trip someone!

We love Arcata Community Forrest. Very safe, well maintained trails, has a playground right beside it that is very nice. Has parking lot.
