We saw this store from the side of the road on our way somewhere else and had to stop. There are so many beautiful things! Much of the glass is hanging in front of the windows and so pretty. The store keeps going and going. There is a back section that is mostly antiques. There is a section of records and comic books. There are even items upstairs. There were some 1/2 off items and children's items upstairs. Large gravel parking lot.

They carry a lot of unique glass ornaments, gifts, jewelry and other sundries. The antique portion is towards the back.of.the store and more farmabiblia.

You can spend hours in here and not see everything they have! What a cool selection of things, and there is definitely something for everyone here if you are with a group of people ranging in age with different tastes. I'm definitely going back!
Jessica C — Google review
Love it here! Whenever I visit I always make it a point to stop here if its 'on-season' even if to just walk around and take in the views. The workers are always so friendly and personable

Amazing store and people! Always a smile and amazing finds when you walk in!
Matt R — Google review
Unlike any other antique store I've seen. This is the most organized place I've been to--every piece feels like it belongs right where it is. Lammers really is more of a showroom where the owners want to proudly display their beautiful collection for you to enjoy (instead of a pile of stuff they hope you will sort through and purchase from). We're not just talking room after room, but building after building. The glasswork is intricate and joyous, and you'll find beads and knickknacks to make you smile. Dig a little further and you'll find curious art pieces, beautiful cobalt/blue glass, old advertisement signs, well-loved ironwork, projectors, radios and a record collection spanning from big band to heavy metal. It really does go on and on, and we found our little 30-minute stop stretching on 3 times as long as we kept looking for the next surprise. You don't even have to like antiquing--if you ever enjoyed an episode of American Pickers or something similar this place has all the joy of finding something unexpected in fantastic condition without having to crawl through a cobweb-smothered barn. Out of respect for the owner's collection, I have only taken a picture of the outside of the entrance--and that's the way it should be. This is a place you should see for yourself. The next time you're in the area, give yourself a smile and stop on by.

This place is awesome! Theres like a little "sanctuary" outfront that's so beautiful! The guy builds all the statues himself! We plan on getting two of the gargoyles on our way back home!

Great place for locally made art. All the peices are made right there. They have a big show area that has lots of options and sizes. They can also stain any price with 10 different colors. Staff is very helpful and friendly too!
Blake S — Google review
A lot to see, all different sizes of many different cement work. A little on the price side, but it will last a long time
Alcesta B — Google review
This place has been here for years. They have a lot more than they used to—lots of new molds available! They offer 10% off to veterans with ID. Nautical, woodland, fantasy themed statuary. Fountains. It looks like new ceramic ware too with colorful paint! Lots of fun to walk around!

Looking for a Mary for the yard.. my wife is so happy! These guys have so much to pick from it makes it hard to pick. Will make them a regular stop when passing by from now on.

So many choices!!! And you can also choose the stain you would like or painted services as well. Everything was nicely displayed and they had options I have not seen before. The gentleman, Bob, was very helpful and so kind. Love this place!!

Beautiful garden accents and planters. The prices are great.

I love this place! I was looking for a bird bath for my mother in law, for Mother's day. Everything is beautiful! Don't be deceived by the front of the store, facing the Hwy. The entry door is on the left side of the building, where you will find beautiful stone pieces that they colored themselves and had many beautiful colors to chose from. The prices are reasonable for the bird baths, and will be ready to pick up in about a week. I was greeted by Jo, she was so sweet and eager to help me find exactly what I was looking for. If you're not shopping for anything, you need to at least stop by and check them out!! You will not be disappointed!!

Played here 3 times when we were staying in obx for a week and it was a great experience. The courts were in great shape and had both hard and clay, they were very reasonably priced for two guests and they were so nice. They even walked a water cooler to our court while we were playing. Highly recommend and will definitely come back when we’re in town.

DO NOT TAKE SWIM LESSON at Westside Athletic Club. I am extremely disappointed with the poor management and lack of customer service at Westside Athletic Club. The way they handled a recent swim lesson was absolutely unacceptable. My daughter and I arrived for the scheduled lesson on July 11 at 5pm, only to be informed just five minutes before the class that it couldn't be offered. The reason behind this sudden cancellation was unclear, and the instructor, Marissa, claimed to have messaged me multiple times for a makeup session, which is simply untrue. In reality, Marissa only sent me one message about rescheduling, and it was unclear who she intended it for since she didn't address it to anyone specifically. Moreover, there were several other dates that required rescheduling due to bad weather in June and the 4th of July holiday. The instructor's vacation plans also led to further rescheduling conflicts. We were never informed that our spot was offered to some else. To add to the frustration, Marissa mentioned that we hadn't paid for the July session, implying that our spot was no longer available. However, I promptly provided proof of payment on July 16. Marissa then directed me to contact Westside for further assistance. When I reached out to Westside on July 18, they claimed that their system shows that we have taken all the lessons. It's baffling because we haven’t taken any lessons for July at all. When I asked for the specific dates and details, Brooke at Westside informed me that they didn't have that information since Marissa was on vacation. This lack of organization and accountability is simply unacceptable. Overall, my experience with Westside Athletic Club and their swim lesson program has been extremely frustrating. The constant passing of responsibility, lack of clear communication, and disregard for customer satisfaction have left me deeply disappointed. I would strongly advise against enrolling in their swim lessons until they address these glaring issues.

WestSide Athletic Club has a great atmospheric presence. Boasting many amenities for your overall body workouts. Two sets of 5-100lb dumbbells stacked opposite each other allows multiple people to work out whichever muscles they need without encroaching upon someone else's workout routine. No need to wait for those 35lb dumbbells to curl since two sets are available. :) There is also a set of straight and curved barbells ranging from 20-110lb for all your arm exercises. One bench press station with the long 45lb bar and weights to add. There's an array of cable-resistance machines, as well as a handful of cardio equipment. In the back corner, they have an adjustable squat rack as well as a few stand-alone 45lb flat bars for cleans/presses for the bodybuilders. The locker room (men's) is VERY clean and tidy. Towels are provided for an after workout shower and a basket for laundry before departing. My only cons for this establishment are lack of a flat bench for bench pressing and how cramped some workout stations are in relation to each other. The benches there are adjustable which is nice for certain exercises but having a non-adjustable flat bench is great for benching without having a crease or moving parts which tends to cause slight imbalances when bench pressing. Overall, it's a very nicely temperature controlled facility with all of the amenities you'd need. The membership includes use of the outdoor pool and tennis/basketball courts. Two thumbs up!

Duck Town Park Boardwalk, also known as the Soundside Boardwalk, is a popular mile-long walkway located in Duck, NC. It offers a variety of activities for families and friends to enjoy. The boardwalk provides access to boat launches along the sound and connects visitors to restaurants, marshes, and forests. Visitors can explore 11 acres of natural surroundings while strolling through the area's diverse shops and storefronts.
Beautiful walk on the boardwalk into the town of Duck where there are lots of nice shops. Duck Cafe has great coffee. Bought a kite at the kite store for only $16 and flew it on the beach back at my house. I love all of the statues of colorful wild horses.
Jan B — Google review
My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon here taking in the beautiful nature along the boardwalk and stopping along the way to visit very nice shops and also enjoyed some homemade ice cream. Highly recommend stopping in the town of Duck to explore this great scenic boardwalk! Only a 30 minute drive from our house in Nags Head. We were blessed to see a beautiful great blue heron and also see a snake slithering through the water in the sound! Lots of fish, too!
Ann R — Google review
This Boardwalk is great addition to Duck. The access to shopping and a nature walk is wonderful. It got 4 stars because the town needs a better maintenance schedule for this venue. They need a volunteer group to clean up and repair every spring.
Donna B — Google review
If you're looking for a peaceful escape from the noise of the city, the Downtown Park Boardwalk is a hidden gem worth exploring. Surrounded by trees and the calming sound of birds and flowing water, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and reconnect with nature. The boardwalk is well-maintained and easy to walk, making it accessible for all ages. Whether you're taking a quiet morning stroll or just need a break in the middle of a hectic day, this place offers a refreshing breath of fresh air. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys the simple beauty of nature and a relaxing getaway close to home.

Such a fun place to visit. So many different shops you'll definitely find what you want. The wildlife on the boardwalk was very enjoyable.
B4ady D — Google review
We love the boardwalk! Great for a stroll but then also has so many different shopping places and restaurants! Definitely recommend. Public restrooms off the boardwalk by the Town Hall and also a public parking lot by the park.
Alyse P — Google review
There's a lot of cool shops and places to eat. Nice atmosphere and right on the sound.
S ( — Google review
Nice boardwalk for a wide variety of local food & wares vendors for visitors to stroll&shop - in early May we found plenty of available parking and bathrooms. Photos taken at mid-day, imagine the sunsets at this location!

H2OBX Waterpark

Mentioned on

Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
H2OBX Waterpark is a thrilling destination for families and adventure enthusiasts, featuring an array of slides, a lazy river, wave pools, and dining options. Visitors have praised the friendly staff and the park's cleanliness. It offers ample parking and caters to visitors of all ages with various attractions. The lazy river provides a relaxing experience while the wave pool offers both excitement and calm waters. Additionally, there are dining options available for guests to enjoy during their visit.
Myself and my 15 year old grandson made a fabulous day here. I have aged out of water slides but the lazy river was great. I watched the little kids splash and play in an area just for them. I also enjoyed our cabana. It is pricey but in my case it was heavenly. I recommend you take a day or a whole summer visiting H2OBX.
Rachel C — Google review
My family has been visiting H2OBX since it opened in June 2017, and it’s been a tradition we look forward to every summer (except the one we missed during COVID!). Our season passes make it easy to enjoy H2OBX multiple times throughout the summer. This park is the perfect mix of thrills and relaxation, from the heart pounding water slides to the obstacle courses that always make us laugh as we watch our kids (and other brave souls) take them on, all the way to enjoying the ocean breeze and the slower pace of the lazy river. The landscaping here is also beautiful, and it always reminds me of my mother-in-law who joined us at the park in the early years before she passed away. She always loved the flowers and shrubs, they make us think of her. It’s such a special memory we get to carry with us every time we visit. One of the best parts of H2OBX is how safe and family-friendly it feels. I never worry about letting the kids explore a bit on their own. The food and beverage options are plentiful, and the giant umbrellas with comfy lounge chairs make it easy to spend the entire day from open to close without ever wanting to leave. H2OBX is more than just a waterpark for us, it’s where we’ve made years of family memories, and we plan to hopefully keep coming back for many more. Tips: 1. Bring or wear “water shoes” or shoes you can slide off at the bottom of the attractions because the concrete gets hot. 2. Read the policies and rules before coming to the park. The majority of the 1 star reviews I’ve read on here are due to people not reading and following the parks clearly stated policies. 3. Buy the refillable souvenir cups! Such a cost saving option. 4. Arrive early so you can snag a great spot under one of the provided umbrellas. 5. The park has lots of tasty options for lunch, snacks, beverages and dinner. If you’re on a budget, pack a cooler for a picnic lunch in the parking lot.
Mindy G — Google review
Amazing waterpark! Clean facilities, lots to do, family friendly, tons of shady spots to sit, short lines for slides! Kids (and adults) had a great time!! Highly recommend going when they open, it definitely started to get busier as the day went on!! And bring water shoes/flip flops, the concrete can get slightly unwalkable in the heat!
Ashley J — Google review
The waterpark was an excellent adventure. It was my first time going. My family had a great time we’re from Virginia Beach and we used go to Ocean breeze but I think I have a new waterpark to go to now regardless it’s an hour and eight minutes away from me, but I enjoyed the drive. The park was clean. The employees were friendly. The food was great. The rise were excellent. Did not have to wait too long in line and a price was cheaper than Ocean breeze I suggest go check it out. You’ll have an excellent time.
Aaron L — Google review
We had a wonderful time at this waterpark! It was very clean, well-maintained, and perfect for a family weekend getaway. My family and I truly enjoyed every moment — from the fun attractions to the relaxing areas, everything was excellent. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great and enjoyable experience. It was one of the best family outings we’ve had!
Sandy R — Google review
Great park and there is a lot to do. The only thing is not cool is they will let you bring a water bottle in but it must be empty. The only filling stations was like a water fountain like at schools. That is not cool! The food and drinks were ok about the avg price like an amusement park. I would recommend it when there is nothing else to do.
Steve H — Google review
Great waterpark on the way to OBX! Smaller than Ocean Breeze and Water Country, but we enjoyed the flow rider that those parks don’t have, great locations of lockers and a couple of the slides were a lot of fun. The taco truck was great and the ladies working were so nice! We went on a Sunday that was high of 80 and felt like it never got super busy. Waits were short on everything the entire day.
Danielle W — Google review
Plenty of Free Parking. Easy entrance to park with online tickets. You just get your bag inspected and show them the barcodes. We rented a Cabana (pricey but in the extreme heat today those fans were amazing). Staff is super friendly and helpful. We were able to decorate for a birthday in our cabana. Hardly any lines for all the attractions. Highly recommend either water shoes or flip flops because there is not much shade and that concrete is hot enough to cook an egg. The lazy river is fantastic. Park was very clean. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. Definitely recommend a visit. Short drive from Virginia Beach. Well worth it!!

Fantastic course just across the causeway from OBX. Maybe 10min from the bridge. Nice course. Four sets of tees. Gold. Blue. White. Red. Not terribly long (5900ish from the blues). Gold are the tips. Cart girl made her rounds a handful of times. Nice dog at the turn. Four hour round. Greens in good shape. No real complaints except we played on a three club windy day. Still a good time though!
Kirk P — Google review
10/10 beach course. The starter Mike was dead on explaining the course, very user friendly and pretty wide open, plus it’s beautiful! Had to try really hard to lose balls. Also the only course I been to that someone delivered the carts and picked them up by our car, big shoutout the homie Brady. To top things off, the clubhouse burger and fries absolutely SLAPPED. Ansley and Lindsay were going hard in the paint over transfusions, orange crushes, and everything else! Will always be back when in OBX
Seth G — Google review
Course was in very good shape most of the staff was nice , The starter was a little rude was the only negative .The course is layed out a little strange and has a lot of water .
KTW — Google review
Very enjoyable morning round at The Pointe. Super friendly staff, good course conditions, and a layout that has enough challenges for anyone made for a great experience. Enjoyed playing in sunny, breezy weather.
Victor S — Google review
Two of my sons-in-law and I played 18 at the Pointe and had a great time. The staff was friendly and accommodating for Outer Banks vacationers like us. We appreciated the extra effort! The course was in great shape, and as others have noted, it’s very open. The challenges come from water hazards and bunkers that protect many of the greens.
Mark W — Google review
Wonderful course with a very friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Leonard C — Google review
I might not ever have played a more wide open course, there is water on many of the holes, but you would have to try hard to hit it in the woods. Beautifully maintained (late May 2025) and the greens are immaculate. Good pace of play, friendly staff. Ask about the two play deal at their sister course, Carolina Club.

The Pointe hosted us for our wedding reception. The course and clubhouse are beautiful and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was the perfect place to celebrate and we would definitely do it again.

The Fudgery at Scarborough Lane Shoppes

Mentioned on

Candy store
Chocolate shop
The Fudgery at Scarborough Lane Shoppes is a delightful confectionery retailer that offers a delectable array of sweet treats. Their specialty lies in their housemade fudge, which comes in an impressive variety of flavors and is made fresh daily using traditional methods. In addition to their creamy fudge, they also offer tempting pralines, caramel apples, chocolate treats, and ice cream with freshly made waffle cones.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Fudgery – A Sweet Stop for the Whole Family! Our family had such a fun and delicious experience at The Fudgery in Scarborough Lane! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly smiles and the irresistible smell of fresh fudge being made right on the marble slabs. The staff made it an experience, not just a stop for dessert—they were upbeat, welcoming, and so patient with our kids while explaining all the flavors. The fudge is outstanding—creamy, rich, and made right in front of you. We loved sampling before choosing, and it was hard to decide since every flavor was amazing (the classic chocolate and peanut butter swirl were family favorites). They also offer great deals if you buy multiple pieces, which is perfect for families or gifts to bring home. Beyond fudge, they serve hand-scooped and soft-serve ice cream with fun mix-ins, so everyone can find something they love. Watching our kids get to pick toppings and see their sundaes come together was a highlight of our trip. Portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable for the quality and size. The shop itself has a cheerful, welcoming vibe and plenty of room to browse. It’s located right in Scarborough Lane Shopping Center, so it’s easy to pop in while exploring Duck. Overall, The Fudgery is a must-visit in Duck for families—whether you want a quick ice cream, a fudge sampler to share, or a sweet gift to take home. Between the delicious treats, the fun atmosphere, and the wonderful staff, this stop truly made our Outer Banks trip extra special. We’ll definitely be back!
Nancy S — Google review
Best ice cream place in the area. there is so much variety of flavors for regular ice cream and frozen yogurt as well. The scoops are so big!!! We love the frozen yogurts and the ability to mix flavors and choose toppings. The self-serve is a big plus, it keeps us and the kids entertained. The lemonade is freshly squeezed and i personally like that you can choose no sugar option. The fudge is also always fresh and delicious, and the kids love the treats they have
Ivan C — Google review
I recently went here with my expectations high and they weren’t even close to being met. Firstly, this place scams you. I asked for 1 scoop and they gave me 3. This would normally be great but they charged you by the oz! It was way too much for me to eat and it was stupidly expensive. Secondly, the ice cream wasn’t even good for how expensive it was. I got the black raspberry pomegranate sorbet but it was way too sweet for a sorbet. Lastly, the employees seemed super annoyed at us and denied when we asked for less ice cream. If you are in the area and want ice cream of fudge, go to literally any other place because I can promise you that they are better.
Carter W — Google review
Their pricing is outrageous. I wish I had realized it before I bought ice cream here. I asked for 1 scoop, she said I had to get at least 2. Okay, fine. Then she fills a decent size bowl. Okay. Ring it up - over $11!!! Now I realize they charge by the ounce. I will never return. I absolutely expect higher prices in a tourist area but I’ve never paid so much for ice cream. Absolutely ridiculous and greedy.
Tonya M — Google review
Best ice cream we had! Fresh and delicious and best of all you can add as many toppings as you want, and everything tasted amazing! Not like other places we went, where the ice cream and toppings were stale. The employees were very sweet and welcoming, made out visit very pleasant. Went there few times with the family and friends, and had great experience! Will be definitely back. It is our go to place now
Julia G — Google review
This place used to be great. But now they charge by the ounce. I’ve never seen a business charge by the ounce where the customer doesn’t determine how much they’re buying. The employee scoops, and then charges you by the weight. Doesn’t seem right. Was almost $16 for 2 cups of ice cream. The cookies & cream, and Salty Jack were partially melted, and were flavorless. Will look for better options in town.
Thomas L — Google review
Best ice cream in Duck! They have so many delicious flavors, and this year they’ve added frozen yogurt too, with tons of options. The fudge is absolutely amazing — rich, fresh, and made right in the shop so you can watch the process. Friendly staff and a fun atmosphere make it the perfect stop for a sweet treat while you’re in town!
Daniel J — Google review
My family and I visited this shop and we were satisfied with their sweets and services! We tried their new machine it was the self service soft serve and it was good, we paid for what we got. The ice cream flavors are so good that I get to taste for the first time. I will definitely come back and bring my friends next time.

Holly Ridge Golf Course

Recently, I had the delightful opportunity to play at Holly Ridge Golf Course, and it truly exceeded my expectations. This charming course is a hidden treasure that strikes an ideal balance between challenge and enjoyment for golfers of all abilities. The lush fairways and well-maintained greens reflect the dedication of the maintenance team, ensuring every round is a pleasure. The layout offers a fun variety of holes that are both engaging and accessible without being overly daunting.
Great fun with great friends. Not a complicated course, great variety of pars, need a collared shirt… Driving range is nice very affordable and night time driving is fun as well. Good times great staff clean course.

I had the pleasure of playing at Holly Ridge Golf Course recently, and I can honestly say it was an outstanding experience. The course itself is beautiful, offering a perfect balance of challenge and playability for golfers of all skill levels. From the lush fairways to the meticulously kept greens, it’s clear that a lot of care goes into maintaining this place. But what really stood out to me was the incredible work done by the maintenance team. They do an absolutely amazing job making sure the course is in pristine condition. You can tell they’re passionate about their work, and it really elevates the entire experience. The course was not only visually stunning, but it also played like a dream – smooth, well-manicured, and just overall top-notch.The staff at Holly Ridge is also very welcoming and professional, making for a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a great round of golf in a beautiful setting. Huge kudos to the maintenance crew for keeping everything in perfect shape!

I golfed here with my husband yesterday and this course exceeded our expectations. The course was lovely and wide open, with plenty of challenge. They did have water out at a few holes, and a bathhouse on #10. Plus a beer cart. The carts were comfortable and quick. The greens challenging but fun to figure out. We will be back.

Holly Ridge Golf Course is a hidden gem! The course is always in great shape with well-kept greens and fairways, making every round enjoyable. It’s a fun layout that’s challenging without being overwhelming, perfect for all skill levels. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and really makes you feel at home. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional, and it’s clear they care about keeping the course top-notch. Whether you’re out for a quick round, practicing, or spending the day with friends, Holly Ridge is the perfect spot. Definitely one of my favorite courses around!

My husband and I played at Holly Ridge for the first time. We had a great time. The staff were very friendly. The course grounds looked well cared for and the lay out made for an easy pace of play. We enjoyed 9 holes and hitting the driving range afterwards. We will definitely be back.
Kim B — Google review
We paid the veteran rate. They had left and right handed loaner golf clubs. The course was short and the carts were electric and nice. Fairways are mostly tight and the driving range takes up a good portion of space. The greens were slow with the grass seeming to be pretty high. The general layout with water and sand was tough for my erratic driver but the holes are short and tempt you to drive them. Compared to my area golf is expensive in NC but Holly ridge keeps the prices down and gives those of us that dont want to spend 150-200$ for a round a place to play.
Robert L — Google review
Plays short and narrow, which is fine. However tee boxes and greens are not ideal, very small hard greens that roll slow. Course condition was ok, not great. Carts and paths were nice. Not worth $50 price overall tho

Room Escape Games
Discovered Escape the OBX while on vacation. My mom, 5 year old daughter and I completed the Enchanted Fairy Garden. Such a great time! Ways for all of us to participate and still challenging. I've only done an escape room one other time. Usually they are cost prohibitive because you have to purchase the whole room to participate with just your family but not with Escape the OBX. I was super impressed by how family friendly, fun, and affordable this great adventure was. A true gem in the OBX. Look forward to future visits!

We did the Nautical Room and did have a great time. The staff was very friendly and we felt very welcomed. The room was fun for our group of four, the clues were creative. The room was well done. I gave four stars instead of five because we had to ask for two clues, due to problems within the room. One of the clues had a wrong color displayed and another clue in invisible ink had rubbed off and was impossible to see. The gamemaster had to redraw the clue in ink while we were playing. Overall, we still had a great experience and got out with 3 minutes to spare, but we wasted a LOT of time looking for a missing clue that wasn't there. In their defense, the people who played the room before us took a bunch of keys from the room, so she was running to get the room back up and running. Overall it was a fun experience, just need to improve a few clues so they are more permanent and correct. Thanks for a fun day!!

We had so much fun!! We did the nautical room and the office. We were successful with only one and sooooooooo close in the next. Family friendly, pet friendly, great employees, fun, very interesting, and original room designs. Just before the bridge onto the beach in point harbor. A must! Thanks Janet for a wonderful evening of fun!!!!

We did the Nautical Room with 3 adults and 4 children ages 4, 7, adults 10, 12. Although it was tight, even the children were able to find clues and help us find the treasure. Great details and props, fun hidden clues and doors!!! Great for all ages to work together! We did ask for 3 clues but managed to escape in time!! We also did the Wacky Wizard with 2 adults and 2 children ages 10 and 12 and it was AMAZING!! Well thought out spells and scientific experiments. The kids had so much fun mixing potions! We only asked for 1 clue in this room and escaped with 9 minutes left. This room is easier than the Nautical Room. Highly recommend!

Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms were unique and not quite like any of the ~10 I had done before. The Office room is one big room with lots to explore, and their newest room is sure to be a treat! We had both experienced and brand-new players in our family group, and got the new ones hooked. All their rooms are family friendly too. Highly recommended, would play again, and a great value.

Loved it! This was our first escape room experience and we really enjoyed it. A lot of fun and the staff was great. We picked the most difficult room and didn't get out (ha!) but it was still fun. Would definitely do it again!

My co-workers planned a surprise birthday gathering here for me. We had a blast! We were in "The Office" and the clues were so creative! It was so fun and challenging, and will definitely make you think! The staff was very friendly and patient with us. :)

I have to say, first time escape room for me, my girlfriend, and mother. First of all the lady was so helpful and polite when we walked in the door. She answered every question we had and made sure we were ready to go in to our first room, the office. It was pretty challenging, we didn’t succeed unfortunately, however a wonderful experience without a doubt! We also go an opportunity to try the enchanted forest. The enchanted forest was by far more interactive and really made you look around and think about the clues! All in all, a positive, enjoyable experience from all of us, would reccomend to anyone willing to try a escape room! Very impressed with how well the rooms are set up!

During our trip, we decided to head to OB-Xscape Rooms and we were so pleased we did! We didn't have a reservation and were able to get into Cell Block 4. This was the first time we were offered to have a guide in the room with us! We didn't take that option, but it was still nice to hear. We have done several escape rooms in our past and were so giddy to have a very interactive room! Won't spoil the experience with details but overall it was very well put together and was our favorite room to experience EVER! Anne was our guide and she was so patient and was very helpful. We would highly recommend this place and staff!

This place was awesome. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the puzzles were really solid. We did Cell Block 4, and it was really fun. Although we escaped, our guide, Anna had to help us a lot. She was super friendly and accommodating to the nine year old we had with us. I highly recommend this escape room.

My friends and I come here every year and we did Cell Block 4 yesterday and it was an absolutely devastating loss. Today, we tried Blind Tiger Speakeasy and had the best time of our life! We are on Vacation from New York for the week and 5 of us decided to try the Cold Case escape room. Personally it was my first time doing any escape room and it was such a blast. Both spooky and interesting at the same time. Our team escaped the room with 57 seconds to spare! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something fun to do and you have the brainpower lol. Alyssa was amazing, we appreciate her kindness and how fun she made the experience. Monument to a Century of Flight

Monuments & Statues
The Monument to a Century of Flight is a remarkable tribute located in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, commemorating the groundbreaking achievement of Wilbur and Orville Wright's first powered flight on December 17, 1903. This memorial park was inaugurated nearly a century later and features an impressive arrangement of fourteen stainless steel pylons that rise from 10 to 20 feet high. These pylons are designed in an orbit spanning 120 feet—the exact distance covered by the Wright brothers during their historic flight.
A well done memorial to a Century of Flight. If you don't enjoy aviation history it's a 5 minute stop. Those that like aviation history could easily spend an hour or two at the monument.

If you love to flights and love airplanes, you must visit this place. The whole family can learn so much, the history of airplane. What a fabulous place to visit.
EL — Google review
Nestled in the windswept dunes of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the Monument to a Century of Flight stands as a powerful tribute to humanity’s relentless pursuit of the skies and beyond. Located near the hallowed grounds where the Wright brothers first achieved powered, controlled flight in 1903, this landmark is both a historical touchstone and an awe-inspiring celebration of aviation’s transformative journey. Visiting this site is like stepping into a timeline of human ingenuity, where the past, present, and future of flight converge in a single, breathtaking narrative. The monument itself, situated within the Wright Brothers National Memorial, is a striking ensemble of 14 stainless steel wing-shaped pylons arranged in a circle, each representing a decade of aviation history from 1903 to 2003. Designed to evoke the sweep of wings and the boundless ambition of flight, the structure is both elegant and humbling. A central granite plaza features inscriptions chronicling key milestones, from the Wright brothers’ first flight to the moon landing and the International Space Station (ISS). The setting—open, airy, and surrounded by the same coastal breezes that lifted the Wright Flyer—feels almost sacred, as if the very air carries the echoes of history. The story begins with Orville and Wilbur Wright, whose dogged determination and scientific precision turned a bicycle shop dream into reality on December 17, 1903. At Kitty Hawk, their 12-second, 120-foot flight aboard the Wright Flyer I marked the birth of modern aviation. The monument pays fitting homage to this moment, with its proximity to the exact spot where the brothers rewrote human possibility. Standing here, you can almost feel the weight of their achievement—a spark that ignited a century of progress. From that modest beginning, the monument guides visitors through aviation’s meteoric rise. The pylons detail milestones like Charles Lindbergh’s solo transatlantic flight in 1927, the advent of commercial air travel, and the jet age’s supersonic breakthroughs. But it’s the leap into space that truly elevates the site’s narrative. The Apollo program, culminating in the 1969 moon landing, is celebrated as a triumph of engineering and human courage. Neil Armstrong’s “one small step” feels intimately connected to Kitty Hawk, as if the Wrights’ 12 seconds paved the way for humanity’s lunar footprint. The monument also nods to the International Space Station, a marvel of global collaboration orbiting 250 miles above Earth, symbolizing how aviation evolved into a gateway to the cosmos. What strikes me most about the Monument to a Century of Flight is its ability to convey the sheer speed of progress. In just 66 years, humanity went from a rickety biplane barely clearing the sand to astronauts walking on the moon. Add another few decades, and we’re maintaining a permanent presence in space aboard the ISS. This rapid ascent is mind-boggling, and the monument captures it beautifully, blending historical reverence with a forward-looking optimism. Each pylon feels like a chapter in a story that’s still being written, inviting reflection on how far we’ve come—and where we might go next. The site is more than just a visual spectacle. It’s an immersive experience, enhanced by its integration with the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Visitors can walk the flight path, climb Kill Devil Hill to see the towering Wright Monument, and explore a replica of the Flyer in the visitor center. The monument itself is free to visit, though the memorial requires a small entry fee. It’s accessible, educational, and deeply inspiring, especially for aviation enthusiasts or anyone moved by stories of human achievement. If there’s a downside, it’s that the monument’s focus on the first century of flight (1903–2003) feels slightly dated in 2025, missing recent advancements like reusable rockets or the rise of private space exploration. A future expansion to include these developments would make it even more releva

This is a Monument to a Century of Flight and was dedicated in 2003 on the centennial of powered flight. Inside the orbit of 14 wing shaped pylons are about 4500 bricks engraved with messages of sponsors from around the World. The stainless steel pylons have engraved accomplishments and images of the 100 most significant accomplishments in the first century of powered flight. The granite monument at the entrance is a poem called "High Flight". The superb welcome center across the parking lot is a great place to begin your exploration of the amazing area. The two ladies inside are great ambassadors for the community.

A history filled stopped covering a century of aviation. We enjoyed reading the facts on each monument. The visitor center is not far from the monument and was a good first stop on our way to our rental home.

This was a great exhibit. Nobody else was around when we visited while at the Welcome Center, and it was the peak time of day. It's definitely a must-see for anyone interested in the history of flight or anyone interested in history in general.

Gives you history about how first flight flown and where we are now... This is near kitty hawk visitor area. I am not sure why it is not in wright brother’s memorial as that memorial ground is really huge. There are 12-14 pillars and each pillar describe time line of first flight to first shuttle till now. History lovers would love this. It won’t take more than 15 minutes of yours so include this in your itinerary.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial is a prominent and historic landmark in the Outer Banks, featuring a 60-foot tall monument that has been open to the public since 1932. Visitors can explore exhibits and stand at the take-off spot of the first successful airplane flight. The memorial offers a glimpse into the lives of the Wright brothers through reconstructed camp buildings and a walk along the flight line.
What a fantastic experience!! This is a great place for all ages. Due to the historical significance, I definitely recommend visiting at least once in your life. It was fun learning even more about the Wright Brothers and their first flights than I knew before. It was a deeply moving experience with the commemorative memorials. The visitor center/museum was a beautiful 'Mission 66' 1960s themed building. I love the classic look and engineered design!

This is a really nice area! If you have younger kids this might be a little boring for them. As someone who has always enjoyed aviation I thought it was awesome. You have to take time to get through the museum before going outside to understand what everything is. There is a nice gift shop here as well.

A must see attraction when in the area! Great for children! There's definitely a lot of walking and some climbing but you can still enjoy the memorial without the walking and climbing! The visitor's center has lots of information and things to see! The ranger program was fun and informative!

If you are into history and Aviation you will love this place. Adonis the guide that gave the presentation was amazing! He should be on stage in NYC or CLE! Standing and walking the flight line that the Wright Brothers used was a touching feeling. And the climb to the top of the National Memorial was exhilarating! Don't forget to get you passport stamped!

Awesome experience, fun and historical to see the monument, sculpture and barn. Due to the Government Shutdown the museum, tour and general parking is all closed off but you can still walk around the property and see the monument and stuff. I walked around while listening to a podcast and felt like I was getting pretty much the whole experience. Use the First Flight airport parking lot and walk in. The airport has no gate.

It was a nice experience to see where the wright brothers experimented with flight and to see the flight landing markers. They made it farther than I thought they made it for the first few flights. Theres a recreation statue of the flight and the other people that were present for it. The uphill walk up to the wright brothers monument was worth it. Plus the walk back down was soooo much easier than going up. One of the signs says the wright brothers carried each piece up the hill manually. Even after each flight.

Awesome memorial to the Wright Brothers and the first flight. Great little gift shop with good quality clothing made in U.S. you can bring your dog along for the walk up the sand dune to the outside memorial, too! Good clean facilities

Your vehicle can get in with your NPS pass or pay $10 pp. This place is very cool, so much history behind the 1st flight. It’s like walking on hallow ground - the hill where they tested the plane without engine, the field where they made the 4 successful flights. Instead of walking from the visitor center to the hill, you can drive & park at the base of the hill. It’s a long walk. There’s an outdoor area with the bronze statues too. Must visit place when in the OBX area.

If you're planning a trip to the Outer Banks, make sure to catch 'The Lost Colony,' an extraordinary outdoor theater experience on Roanoke Island. This annual summer musical is a grand spectacle that rivals productions you might find at larger venues like Busch Gardens. The show features talented actors performing against a stunning natural backdrop of trees and wood, with impressive lighting effects that enhance each scene.
This is such a great story and great show. I will tell you the back stage pass is worth it. You learn more about. The show and you get to see things that others wish to be able to. Now the special effects are stunning and I will say there is not a bad seat in the house . The further up you are the more effects you can see and it is stunning. The show happens all around you not just on stage. There is snacks and beverages for everyone, the bathroom ma are clean and the cast are amazing talented members. Go enjoy the show !

Getting tickets at the box office was easier for us than getting them online because two of us are handicapped. We were able to get a ride from the parking lot area to the seating area, which was a big help. The play itself was wonderful. The lighting effects were spectacular. The use of puppetry for some of the storytelling was wonderful. The animals being portrayed and the choreography of their movements was very well done.

Incredible venue and production 88 years old for good reason. The story is compelling, the costumes are amazing and the cast is captivating. This is a family friendly environment much more comfortable than I expected, given the location and timing of our visit. If you are on or near the North Carolina Outer Banks, you owe it to yourself to check out the production.

I went there with my husband. They helped us chose a good spot and cheapest. They have restrooms, store that sells snacks, drinks and alcohol. The seatings were nice. The shows actually started around 8:30. I believe it's because they need the sky to be dark first for projecting video onto their stage and it was amazing! The scene of when they were sailing in the ocean will be stuck in my head for a very long time. The sound system was great. The casts were really doing a good job immerge us into the story. I didn't prepare for their singing and was surprised, good surprised. I wish more people would come to see the show.

Nestled near Fort Raleigh, the Elizabethan Gardens is a captivating historical site that invites visitors to explore its lush landscapes and rich heritage. This enchanting destination features meticulously maintained paths adorned with an array of seasonal blooms, including camellias, crepe myrtles, and hydrangeas. Each visit offers a unique experience as the gardens transform throughout the year.
Amazing established gardens with 60 plus years of work! This place is tranquil and shaded for a reprieve on a hot, sunny day. Well worth the admission and also loaded with history of the flora and fauna as well as the people and events that shaped the gardens. There is a very nice waterfront overlooking the Sound. Also the greenhouse and nursery sells many plants to the public if you are interested. The staff has all the answers if you have questions about anything related to the gardens or history of the place. A must see for visitors and locals alike!

I would have rated my visit at 5 stars, but sadly I was there at the beginning of April when most things were not in bloom. The facility has some lovely grounds with loads of different trees, flowers, and plant species. The flowers that were in bloom were lovely and all the grounds were clean and tidy. I did enjoy the fact that they piped classical music around the grounds, giving a very upscale vibe.

Very beautiful experience. I was expecting more flowers per say rather than scrubs bushes trees or herbs but i did go in September so I cant complain. I dont know too much about plants in general besides that I cant keep them alive so I found it cool that a lot of things were labeled, some staff were out answering questions, and the map was helpful. It was amazing to see how big the garden was. I could have done without all the orb weaver spiders but luckily we survived. Even though I cam during an off season I still think it was a nice experience because I have never been anywhere like this before.

Pretty cool place! We went for plants and flowers and the garden is gorgeous, very diverse as well. We also saw a lot of really cool spiders and insects which for me was even better. I also liked the small area where they were growing plants and had them for sale!

Such a beautiful garden and was worth the stop before we left town to visit! To just soak in all the beauty that this garden holds including the butterflies freely roaming! It makes you feel like it’s something out of a fantasy movie! Originally from Ohio but was on vacation to the Outer Banks and we drove past this and said “screw it let’s take a look” and it was well worth the side quest! 10/10 beautiful garden and will be visiting again🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌻

Great place to spend some time roaming around. Mature trees will keep you cool in the summer heat as you wander along the various pathways to the different garden areas. Many statues enhance the beauty of the gardens. We were there the end of October and they were lining some of the pathways for an evening childrens event. The Freedom Trail also begins across the parking lot from the garden entrance and is worth walking.
Cheryl T — Google review
I absolutely loved my walk through these fabulous gardens. Well designed (of course), well maintained and a joy to adventure through or just saunter and breathe. And a nice diversion from the beach - salt life. And I loved all the fountains & the faint fairy music playing along the trail.
Lyl R — Google review
Our family trip to this beautiful garden was not expecting such an exciting adventure! The fairy hunt employed all the help from our group. I love that the scavenger hunt for the fairies was not too obvious but also not too difficult. This experience works well for families with members unable to travel for long periods of time. The Big Lawn in the center allows you to view quite a bit without moving too far. While allowing members on the journey to immerse themselves in the aesthetic aspects of the garden.

Nags Head Fishing Pier is one of the several fishing piers in the Outer Banks, offering a unique experience for anglers. The pier features two restaurants and a tackle shop where visitors can pay a small fee to crab or fish. With miles of shoreline and Albemarle Sound waters, Nags Head Fishing Pier provides endless possibilities for fishing enthusiasts. Additionally, the area offers other popular spots such as Coquina Beach and Oregon Inlet Fishing Center for charter boat trips.
I love this fishing pier! Great amenities! Only thing is my favorite magnet I bought from here continued to break. That was heartbreaking. Cameras are live and well pixelated. Clean parking lot and area. With handi access to the outdoor wash off showers
Kelsea S — Google review
The view is beautiful, but doesn’t worth to pay $3 for the entrance. I got so frustrated! I thought it was free like other piers I have been to. There is an old man (seemed rude to me) who asks for your admission ticket and says it is valid for all day long. You’re going to come across with a plenty of red necks and tourists fishing and staring you. The only thing I enjoyed was the great view. I don’t recommend, unless you want to pay for it.

There are a lot of jelly fish currently. There were a lot of fisherman on the pier. It was quite cool to walk to the end of the pier at night. You could feel the competition in the air.
Kory H — Google review
Besides an incredibly grumpy old man running the bait shop this place is great. He was very rude to my special needs son which is completely unnecessary. Not a great impression for the first thing you have to encounter when getting a ticket to the pier. That said a lady on the pair who is married to a worker at TWs tackle was unbelievably ki d to my son and set his rig up to fish. Thank you ma'am.

Cool little pier to watch the surfers and fisherfolk, especially if you stop by Captain Andy's to grab a drink prior. We were up here the week prior to a tropical storm / hurricane so the swells were a little bit bigger than usual. But it was a treat to see the full force of nature in all her power.

North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island

Mentioned on

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is a popular attraction for visitors of all ages, offering live animal encounters, feedings, and a 285,000-gallon shark tank. The sprawling complex showcases hundreds of tanks featuring local species such as alligators, river otters, horseshoe crabs, manta rays, and sea turtles. It also features ever-changing exhibits on marine biology, local hurricanes, and lifesaving station history.
We loved the aquarium! The exhibits obviously have all kinds of interesting and beautiful marine creatures, the outdoor wetlands area with the alligators and otters was really cool and experiential and the interactive parts of the exhibits were so great for kids. The diver in the shark tank was really fun and gave knuckles to all the kids standing there watching. The kids got to touch stingrays and pencil urchins, got to pretend to diagnose, treat and release an injured turtle in a really well done exhibit room and hunt for sharks teeth outside. And the kids were thrilled they got to keep the teeth they found! Nice gift shop too with lots of kid and adult gifts. We stayed for three hours and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Super cute Aquarium! I love Aquariums, my husband and I were married in one so of course we needed to come here. The Aquarium is on the smaller side and we went during off season so I could imagine during peak season would be pretty crazy, but regardless there is a good bit to see and do along with some really amazing creatures. Staff were great in general, very nice, willing to answer questions and super helpful. I would definitely stop back by if I was in the area! The Aquarium shop was also super cool, they have a good bit of really cute souvenirs
Kalia — Google review
The aquarium is a great way to learn more about local sea life, Outer Banks history, and the care and rehabilitation of injured marine animals. You can go through the turtle hospital, visit a touch pool, and there are many displays that appeal to visitors of all ages. Volunteers are welcoming, patient, and very knowledgeable. We learned so much! Advance tickets were required and entrance is timed, but it is easy to purchase tickets online and select a time that works for your schedule. There is a gift shop where you can purchase a memento of your visit, which goes to support conservation efforts. We had such a wonderful time!

Stopped by here while on vacation. The family absolutely loved it. Seeing the smiles on my daughter and wife made it all worth it. Plus it's only $15 for adults. They have a great facility and even help rehabilitate sea turtles. If you're in the Outer Banks area. Put this on your list! They even have a pollinator garden & forest!
Dustin B — Google review
This place is so cool! They rehabilitate sea turtles and you can see what they do! They have a shark tank and tell you all kinds of interesting things while they are feeding them. There is a place outside kids and people in general, can dig for shark teeth and fossils, plus a lot of other stuff to see. We had a great time!

Very nice Aquarium. Several interactive displays for kids an adults alike the big shark tank is awesome. I recommend getting your tickets ahead of time if you know you're going to avoid waiting in line at the ticket window great way to make memories with your family.

Excellent aquarium!! Have lots of variety of animals. Love their otter and also seeing a white alligator. So majestic. Had large snapping turtle and other turtles. Variety of fish. Me and my kids had a blast and would go again. Prices were good. Not expensive. We have been to the one at pine knolls and fort fisher. But I believe this one was a lot better. We can’t wait to go back.

Charming small aquarium to visit for 1-2 hrs. They rescue sea turtles & release them back to the ocean, very cool. Check the calendar for the shows. Must visit when you’re in the area. You can purchase tickets ahead of time or at the windows like we did on a weekday

If you're looking for a unique and engaging experience, Island Farm in Manteo is the perfect destination. This 19th-century living museum immerses visitors in the daily life of an 1800s farm on Roanoke Island. With costumed interpreters guiding you through hands-on activities like blacksmithing and traditional farming tasks, you'll gain a genuine understanding of historical agricultural practices.
We went for the Island Farm Christmas night. It was very well organized with a lot of interesting information about the particular farm, but also Christmas traditions during the time period. We looked in the detached kitchen with a full table spread of foods they would have served and were treated with cider, a cookie, and some fresh cooked meat. Some friends made some dipped candles. We made wreaths to take home. There was also a tour of the main house. A lot of fun for those who like history!

We had a really great time here. The staff was amazing and super helpful, and kind to our kid. They have an amazing looking American milking Devon and other a horse that they rescued. they put a lot of time into restoring that mansion and out buildings too. They have set up the sheep pasture with the old bramble style breakers to do rotating pasture like back in the day. It really gives a little sneak peak into the life back then. A nice collection of heritage breeds too.

Lovley place, you can walk in every building, staff is there everywhere to explain. Ponys, a mule, a cow, chickens to watch and pet. Very nice experience. I loved the mule.

Wish I lived closer.... They did a great job of restoring it to the period of 1840. Everyone was so nice and helpful. So much history. We went on the fourth of July and listened to the Declaration of Independence being read and fired the musket. Great place for a field trip or a stop with the kids.

This is a hidden gem and a must do in my book for a trip to the Outer Banks! If you love Williamsburg or other living history museums, this is for you!

The Island Farm is a great way to spend an afternoon learning about the history of Roanoke Island and what life was like in the colonial days there. The staff is in character and very knowledgable about the craft they may be performing but also about the roles that played in the day-to-day life of those from years ago. The animals and yard games are great for kids to see, feed, and play with. My family and I have been several times now, and while the experience is mostly the same from year to year, it is still just as enjoyable as the first time we visited.

I'm a local.. Last year I had old friends and their friends visit... two dairy farming families from NY and Connecticut.. They had so much fun looking in every nook and corner of the farm...Between them they have over 100 years of farming. They were impressed with Island Farm...Fun and education for young and old.

Fun place to explore. Interpretors give rich history and answer any questions you might have. Spent about an hour there and got to taste some herb tea from the garden. It's as accurate as one can get and like going back to 1847 for just a little while ...

Outer Banks Gun Club

Shooting range
Fun & Games
These people here are old fashioned and knowledgeable. The good ol boys come here sometimes and they are just the friendliest and nicest guys to shoot next to. I asked a gentleman working there about shooting skeet and he gave me a quick one-on-one because he knew I was a rookie with an unusual style of shotgun. I was prepping for Turkey Hunting and the guys here were nice and helpful- even told me when I left to watch my 10 oclock position, which is a high and left pattern- which has plagued me forever. Didnt get a turkey, but I very much enjoy coming here to pattern in the rear field and shoot my rifle and wheel gun up front. The prices are very fair and they have good targets and safe lanes. Rowdy people get checked over the intercom, and one time the shooting was stopped for a safety and firearm check for some young guys- but they were fine. Just like any club, there are a couple of people who like to keep to themselves and may come off as bothered if approached. It has never stopped me from having a safe and positive experience. I appreciate y’all!
Mr. D — Google review
I have not tried this range, yet. One question, I see a review from quite a while back about a gentleman they called "the colonel" handling his weapon inappropriately. Is this gentleman still a frequent visitor / employee? I would like to give the place a try, but I've been around those types before and I find it's much safer to avoid the places they frequent. Safety first. Being polite always helps as well. Ranges that tolerate bad behavior from so-called experts are best avoided.
Robert F — Google review
I received a Fahlo bracelet for Christmas. I got a red wolf and so far he has been staying right here on this patch of land. From Google maps, it looks like farmland. Hope he stays safe, its a run range. p.s. " Don't shoot the wolfs. They are rare and going endangered." Mine looks like a German Sheppard according to the picture.
Christine M — Google review
Very impressive range. This facility is pristine. Great people.
John G — Google review
Please please please make sure you are educating your customers on animal conservation, an few endangered red wolf species like to roam around those areas and one hasn’t moved for a few days . Killing endangered species is a federal crime :)
Jackie T — Google review
My husband and I visited yesterday for the first time and the facility is nice! The staff is very helpful and I felt comfortable there as a newcomer to gun ranges. We live an hour and a half away and plan to return often. Go check out this place!
Ashley C — Google review
A wonderful experience. I’m a newbie and this was my first time to an outdoor range. Great facility. Awesome experience. The staff was informative and friendly. The folks on the range were more than helpful for a first timer. I look forward to my next visit!
Elizabeth A — Google review
The staff was very friendly, starting with accurate and easy to follow driving directions, a few easy to follow common-sense rules (present at most outdoor shooting ranges), and policies for children. I've shot at a variety of outdoor ranges: City Police, State Wildlife Preserves, Outdoor Gun Clubs, etc., and the Outer Banks Gun Club is very well equipped. True, outdoor gun ranges, are not set up to be like your hotel/resort concierge...They expect one to conduct oneself with politeness and common-sense, as we all should have been taught in kindergarden. They do sell targets, however they don't sell ammo or rent guns (again, like most outdoor ranges, one has to have both a gun and the appropriate ammo). Kudos to the Outer Banks Gun Club for having a spacious, courteous, and well-run shooting range, that I will enjoy returning to year after year with my family and friends! Thank you.

Jockey's Ridge State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Jockey's Ridge State Park, located in the Outer Banks, is home to the East Coast's tallest dune. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hang gliding, hiking, and sand surfing. The park offers stunning views of the ocean and sound from the top of the 100-foot tall dune. It is a popular spot for kite flying and sand sledding, with Kitty Hawk Kites providing hang gliding lessons on-site.
This is a beautiful state park!! You can get 'lost' from the rest of the world and have a lot of fun. It is very windy, which makes for great kite flying or hang gliding. They offer hang gliding lessons here. There is a kite store across the street to purchase kites!! There is a recently uncovered sand castle from a mini golf place from the 1970s. That was pretty cool to see. In the early, quiet mornings, you may see some wildlife or animal tracks in the sand, including foxes, coyotes, and opossums. I fly kites frequently, but have never visited a spot as great to fly as here!Additionally, this place is great to watch the sunset from
Emily T — Google review
Pleasantly surprised by this location! Went on a cloudy day so it wasn’t hot, super windy and VERY cool. Like walking on the moon! The views are incredible, so much space, and not a too far walk. Loved it! The visitor center is also super nice and informative and they had free stickers :) AND DOG FRIENDLY
Jessica C — Google review
This is a really cool place. I have a few tips after being here. Bring some kinda shoes that are throw aways. Crocs and sandals are useless in sand. The sand is not smooth like the beach it’s more gritty and sharp in places. Absolutely beautiful views from on top. We flew kites from on top and what a blast it was. Definitely can see why the Wright Brothers got flight near by. It’s a lot of walking here and it’s on soft sand so it really slows you down.
JorGen R — Google review
The tallest sand dunes in Eastern US are a beautiful sight to see. Been coming to Jockey's Ridge since I've been grade school and it nice to see that this site is being well maintained. These dunes are not an easy feat but well worth the uphill climb. Definitely a place to visit for nature lovers, very serene. Great free adventure for solo, couple, or family trips!

I am working my way through the 42 state parks in Nc and we went to Jockeys Ridge yesterday and the evening before. The best time to go is about 30 minutes before the sun sets. It has amazing views with a 360 degree view of Nags Head. The trail is all sand so as recommended I walked barefoot. It says it takes about 30 mins to 1 hour to get to the very top…I think it took us about 25. We went back yesterday morning to find out how to find the buried castle. We parked at the kite shop and crossed the crosswalk and the castle (which is no longer buried) was just a few yards from the road. Pretty neat and worth the stop!
Barbara B — Google review
This is a really fun and unique thing to do in the area. Theres a board walk through trees from the visitor center to the dunes. It isn’t a far walk up the dunes. It’s beautiful to see the ocean on one side and the sound on the other at the top of the dunes. It’s quite windy at the top, I saw many kites. I went in October and it was a perfect temperature and I was able to walk barefoot on the dunes.
Caitlin K — Google review
Such a massive sand dune! The climb to the top wasn't bad. If you're able to do it, I would definitely try! There is an observation deck, where you can see part of the dune. This is a great option for those with mobility issues. I also would not be bringing a stroller. We brought a boogie board and a saucer sled to try and sled down but we didn't have any luck with those.
N W — Google review
Looking to climb dunes. Taking 3 steps for every 1 step gained. Then thus will be the place for you. Once you reach the top you can enjoy the view, fly a kite, or watch others enjoy the area. Sand can be hot depending on the season so morning/evening is best in the summer.

Outer Banks Distilling

Outer Banks Distilling, which opened its doors in early 2015, proudly holds the title of being the first distillery in the Outer Banks region. Nestled within a charming historic brick building from 1946 in downtown Manteo, North Carolina, this distillery specializes in crafting small-batch rums—white, gold, and spiced varieties that are perfect for any occasion. During December, they even offer delightful holiday flavors to celebrate the season.
We had such a great time! Ashley did our tasting and was amazing! She even got a treat for our dog, Mokka. Ernie was our bartender and mixed up some delicious drinks. Jamie was super helpful in picking things out and cashing us out. Wonderful experience and bonus it’s dog friendly. Jamie and Ashley were so sweet to our pupper.

We stopped in here for a tasting and some cocktails. Everything we tasted was great! All three rums, the candied pecans, the molasses, slushes (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), expresso martiki, and honey badger. Great place! Excited to be taking some home with us.
Zack H — Google review
We told them we drove 1000 miles to go to the Distillery, which was true. The owner took us out back where the rum was in the barrels soaking up that charred bourbon flavor. The logo is awesome. The people who run the place are great and the Pecan is my favorite
Albert B — Google review
Although I’m not a serious rum drinker, this rum distillery has some delicious rum cocktails. My group had the Wreck Diver, Jamaican Caucasia, White Lotus, and Mojito. The Wreck Diver (featuring the distillery’s silver rum and the tropical syrup known as Falernum) served in a chilled coop glass stood out as the best. The distillery offered free samples of their fine rums and friendly service.
Alex M — Google review
We were staying in a cottage a couple blocks away and discovered this gem was nearby. The tasting portion was great. Really enjoyed the molasses that is a byproduct of the rum distilling. Ernie, at the bar, serves up great drinks and conversations. The pina colada was sooo good and the banana painkiller hit the spot. Visit this Outer Banks treasure!

One of my favorite distilleries that I have ever visited. I only had a chance to meet and talk with Matt and Scott and they are some of the most personable guys. We talked at length about ideas and projects they had in the works. I am not a huge RUM drinker but every single one of their products that I have tried, I have loved. They take great care in their crafting of Rum and I look forward to catching up with them again many more times as I continue to visit.

This time to OBX we stayed in Kill Devil Hills. The story goes that Blackbeard had rum buried in the sand dunes of the area so strong it could kill the devil - hence the name - Kill Devil Hills. While in Manteo we learned that there is still rum - Kill Devil Hills Rum made at Outer Banks Distilling in the town we were in - Manteo. We found the distillery, went in and had a few samples followed by bringing some of the rum back home with us. The ingredients of this rum is pure without refined sugar added. It is very good. I also picked up some local honey used in one of their rums. It was great talking to the person who was serving the samples and was also the "main guy" at the distillery. The inside is a fun environment. And, there is a bar where you can get drinks made with their spirits.
Brian M — Google review
This is a great micro-distillery that specializes in Rums only. on our trip we sampled three rums, the regular white rum, a gold rum which was aged in Bourbon barrels, and a flavored rum with pecans and honey. On-site they also have a small lounge where you can try cocktails which we tried three different ones and they were all very good.

I didn’t go in because it was closed, and honestly, I don’t think I missed much. But walking around the area is a must, the vibe is super chill and pretty. I’d recommend parking on the main street and taking your time exploring all of Ice Plant Island.

Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse and the town of Manteo are pure coastal magic! The lighthouse, though smaller than others on the Outer Banks, is full of charm and beautifully positioned over the water. The boardwalk stroll leading up to it is peaceful and scenic, especially at sunset. Manteo itself is one of the most inviting towns I’ve ever visited—friendly locals, quaint shops, waterfront dining, and so much history around every corner. It’s the perfect blend of relaxation and discovery. I could spend days here and still want more!

Lived on the Outer Banks my entire life..and it is a privilege to live in such a lovely area.. late evenings in the summer walking the boardwalk to the Marsh light.. beautiful.. heads up to those who live here and visitors.. I've noticed lately on my walks there is more garbage being left around the benches, on the grassy areas and even in the tide surrounding the area.. please be respectful and throw your litter away.. there's no excuse when there is plenty of garbage cans in the area.. thank you and hope you enjoy this great historic area as much as I do..

Outstanding visitor center entering the Outer Banks from the south. Ample parking. Clean restrooms. Well laid out. The main building was beautifully designed with multiple large five foot long posters of descriptive information. Curved cases contained many brochures on both sides covering attractions, fishing, accomodations, various rentals, shopping, crafts and restaurants. The ladies working were very friendly and provided answers to all questions. Outdoor maps were large and helpful.

I'm back in the area and my travel needs have changed, hence the downgrade. I'm disappointed that this welcome center and rest area have a clear sign that overnight parking is not permitted. I'd have stayed longer in the Outer Banks and done more exploring but not if I have to find a place to park my RV out of town. Bummer. For a plus, this welcome center does have a very free RV dump station. It's easy to access and that was very helpful. Inside, clean restrooms and a nice air conditioned spot for a quick break.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a fun activity for the 4-5 minutes you get to ride. I enjoyed it. The course is a figure 8 and all the cars go about the same speed to its not much of a race. But, the cost to take 4 teenagers and 2 adults was $78 which is absolutely insane for 5 minutes of entertainment. Ridiculous! They should let you ride all night for $20
Sam Z — Google review
Loved taking our kids here for go carts. Reasonably priced and two different tracks to race on. Little kids (height checks at check in) can either ride doubled with parent or older sibling or ride their own junior cars if tall enough. If your child is on the shorter side though make sure and ask for the pad to be placed behind them so they can reach the pedals the whole way. Our boy couldn't get it quite pushed far enough so he could go but not very fast and got stuck on the hill a bit. Said he was pushing with end of his toe. Staff were nice and helpful but follow the rules. No bumping is allowed and its nice to keep it clean for a beach trip. If your out to cut off, push and race for pink slips...this may not be the right fit for your group. If you want some good family fun...this is perfect! 😎

Absolutely the Best Karting Experience in the Region! This place is hands down the best karting track in the entire region! The service was outstanding – the staff is super friendly, professional, and always ready to help. The karts are top quality – fast, well-maintained, and perfect for both beginners and experienced drivers. The track layout is exciting and challenging, making every lap a thrill. If you’re looking for adrenaline, fun, and top-notch service, this is the place to go. I’ve been to several karting places, but none compare to this one. Highly recommended – can’t wait to come back!
Daniel D — Google review
It’s gocarts, good family fun. Difficult to screw it up but they’re letting a teenager operate the remote that controls all of the carts. First time out they cut the gas pedal when one of the kids was on a hill. They rolled back, not ideal. Then later on the adult track the remote guy cut one driver randomly as he was at the top of a hill. It’s kind of a bummer knowing some immature kid can just mess with a drivers experience randomly. MGT should just have someone that cares about the experience operating that not someone trying to amuse themselves.
Sean S — Google review
Awesome family experience. Not too expensive (use the website discount) Don't be a goober like me and wear your hat on the track unless its tight 😂 Whole family had a great time. Staff were informative, polite, and helped the kids with the Junior karts
David C — Google review
Track is OK, the biggest letdown is that they now require any driver to be 54" tall. The small go karts max out at 48" so this place has nothing to offer the kids in between.

Kids enjoyed the go-cart racing. It's just kinda short. Maybe I went around the track 5 times. It's only $13 pre person, so maybe that's why.

Mike H — Google review
Kids enjoyed the go-cart racing. It's just kinda short. Maybe I went around the track 5 times. It's only $13 pre person, so maybe that's why.

Visitors can explore an assortment of products such as beach gear, souvenirs, high-end fashion, home decor, and groceries. The relaxed atmosphere and welcoming shop owners make browsing through the local stores a pleasant experience for all ages.
I recently visited the Champion Outlet store in Nags Head, and I was really impressed by the deal they had going on! Everything in the store was priced between $5 and $15, which was an amazing bargain. The selection was great, and I found some really good quality items at unbeatable prices. The store was well-organized, and the staff was friendly and helpful. If you’re in the area and looking for athletic wear or casual clothes at a discount, this outlet is definitely worth checking out!

It has amazing store and the it’s awesome clean place to come and shop the Sperry store is about to close so whatever’s they got left is what they have left and the are heavily discounted. The Village Pizza got some of the best pizza I’ve had in a while

Small selection of stores, two different restaurants. It appeared there was decent outdoor seating for the restaurants if you wanted that. Nice way to kill a few hours, especially if the weather is bad. We had a fun time!

A small set of outlets compared to other outlets I've been to but I still found what I wanted in terms of stores. I'm only taking a star off because they kept advertising pizza and smoothies and other food but there were no food options here. I'm assuming they are in the process of adding some food options here? But as of now, there aren't any.

So you know the bathrooms are behind the Talbots. Really nothing special, fairly reasonably priced Knick nack vacation stuff and a few real stores. The weather sucked that day so great for in and out of dry spaces was good.
Chaz F — Google review
I visited the outlet mall in rainy weather. There was not a single outdoor seat that is protected from the rain. One spot has a kind of netting over it, but the rain comes right through.

Jennette's Pier

Fishing pier
Sights & Landmarks
Jennette's Pier, located in the Outer Banks, has a rich history dating back to 1939. After being damaged by storms, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2011 as an eco-friendly concrete pier that is part of the North Carolina Aquarium system. Visitors can rent fishing equipment and take lessons while enjoying the scenic views. The pier also features saltwater aquariums showcasing marine life found in the area.
It looks like a great place to fish, and there are a lot of people that fish here. It is also nice to just go out on the pier to sight see, and to watch people catch fish, but also be warned about the sheer number of sharp hooks flying through the air and the number of fish heads being sliced off. It costs money even to sight see, but it is only a few dollars. The entrance is pretty grand, and there is a fish tank, informational exhibits, and a gift shop. I also appreciate that they have a restroom, and that was free, although I'd gladly have paid an entrance fee at the time. It is right next to a public beach, and along the multiuse trail. We biked in about 4 miles through Nags Head.
Richard N — Google review
We visited just for some views on our last full day of vacation. It was 2 dollars per person just to sight see, which is good obviously. It was very nice! Beautiful and calm, even lined with fishermen and birds 🤣
Lilli M — Google review
Great Experience! Except for getting wet out at end of the pier from waves hitting the pier. Very good views! Read about the piers history. There is a small aquarium and retail shop. Had a good time. Cost to explore pier $2 per person.
Philip B — Google review
One of the best pier and I would definitely visit again. Restrooms and outdoor shower areas, even fishing pier has accessible restrooms and nearby restaurants. On a sunny day we were able to sit under pier as well which was great. Pier parking right near to beach and if its full, parking available nearby location as well.
Danda N — Google review
Nice pier. Was popular for fishing. Nice walk to the end. Saw a guy catch a huge fish which drew quite a crowd. Cost $2 to walk on. More to fish. Aquarium was small but a nice touch. Shop was good also. The beach either side was exceptional.
Ollie D — Google review
What a fascinating store. This might be my favorite store I’ve ever been too. It is definitely the best store in the Outer Banks. They make things out of recycled materials like driftwood and sea glass. I will definitely be coming back here next year. Also there is something for everyone’s budget starting with a $5 sea glass hair clip. Make sure you check out the outside area also.

Labor Day, took the 1hr 45 minute road trip from Norfolk VA to OBX Jeannette’s Pier, unplanned…well worth the trip. Adult son loves to fish and excited about a new location, enjoyed casting into the deep ocean off the pier. Mom and I hung out on the beach: NO crowds, CLEAN and peaceful. Enjoyed the mini-aquarium and gift shop.

Dolphin & Whale Watching
Paradise Cruises is a boat company that operates dolphin cruises in the area around OBX Marina. The trips allow passengers to explore local birds and take in stunning views of Roanoke Sound while looking for dolphins. Paradise has been awarded #1 rankings by Trip Advisor for four years running, and the boats are comfortable with a canopy top, cushioned seats, and a restroom. Tours last two hours, and starting fees are $15 per person.
Our Family did a morning dolphin cruise on Wednesday April 16 and had a wonderful time. We knew ahead of time that the dolphin 'season' doesn't actually begin until May, but that there was a chance to see some dolphins in April. While we weren't fortunate enough to see dolphins this time, the tour was well worth it. Both members of the crew were locals with a lot of knowledge of the area and it's history. They took us to Pelican Island, Duck Island, out to see the Bodie Lighthouse and did their best to try to find dolphins - coordinating with other boats in the area and returning to a spot that they had seen them the day before. They had a couple of swordfish 'swords', a shark jaw with teeth, a megalodon shark tooth and other hands on exhibits that they passed around and did a great job interacting with everyone, especially the kids. They had good, clean bathrooms at the end of the parking lot and a little gift shop/bait shop. I would highly recommend as they had a more personal touch than some of the other companies in the area.

Absolutely The Best dolphin tour that we have been on!! The boat was clean and spacious. We saw dolphin almost 10mins in!!! Even a small baby one. Jay was absolutely amazing! So personal and outgoing. Made everyone feel at home especially the kids. Can't wait to come back and do it again!!! Thank you for making a great experience for our family!

Overall experience was great! Greeted upon boarding , the captain and his mate were well informed about the history of the area and got to see many dolphins! Son also got to sit in the captain’s chair for a bit. Would recommend for anyone wanting a different viewpoint of the outer banks

Awesome experience Did the sunset cruise. Beautiful smooth ride, in a special catamaran built for the cruise. Awesome captain, lots of interesting local facts. Saw lots of dolphins, even though it was late in the season. They worked with others, to make sure you saw something if it was out there.

My daughter and I took the 10am dolphin tour this morning, May 29, 2025. We saw many dolphins and even a baby one! We also saw an Osprey with a newly hatched baby peeking from the nest, as well as loads of pelicans, egrets and comorants. Jay and Scott were fantastic guides. They are genuinely nice people who seem to love sharing their knowledge of the area and appreciation for wildlife with others. The ladies in the office were also so friendly and sweet! This was an excellent tour. If you are in OBX, an Outer Banks Paradise Dolphin Cruise with Captain Jay is a must do!

We took a sunset cruise in mid-October and saw tons of dolphins! Capt. Jay was amazing. He told us all about local history and was just so great.

Absolutely the best part of our vacation. The Captains are so knowledgeable of the area, they have fantastic personalities. We saw so many dolphins, but they said it was due to the hurricane coming in.
Angela P — Google review
You couldn't have asked for a better tour! I never dreamed we would see so many dolphins! The captain was very accommodating and provided a wealth of knowledge.

Lighthouses
Bodie Island Lighthouse, a historic 1848 structure, offers tours and stunning views of the Outer Banks. Visitors can purchase tickets online or at the gift shop before climbing over 200 stairs to reach the top. The friendly staff provides insightful information about the lighthouse's history. With limited capacity for safety, visitors can enjoy a guided tour with enthusiastic park rangers. The breathtaking panoramic view from the top makes it worth the visit, offering a glimpse of the Outer Banks and surrounding areas.
This is a great place to visit with kids! My children learned about this lighthouse in 4th grade, so of course we had to come see it while we were in the area! It has such a neat history. They open ticket sales for each day at 7am on the recreation.gov website, so I made sure to get mine right after they went live. It seems though that they might have tickets still left in the afternoon in the slower months. The marsh area was also great to check out and we saw a Great Egret fishing for food!

A very nice little lighthouse. It was very peaceful. Unfortunately you had to buy tickets in advance to climb to the top. It looks like you previously were able to walk in on the first floor however now you can't due to some people going up to the top without tickets. We checked out the marsh boardwalk which was cool!! The views are very pretty. Some people lost hats over the side lol.

Visited the Bodie Island Lighthouse during our way home from vacation in OBX. Since Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was closed for renovations, visiting Bodie Lighthouse let me fulfill my wish to climb to the top of a historic OBX lighthouse. The intricate ironwork and craftsmanship of the circular staircase was amazing. And yes, my calf muscles felt it at the halfway point but getting to the top was well worth it. The view is spectacular! Tip: it's easy to buy lighthouse climb tickets while visiting —there is a scan code at the front entrance to the lighthouse. The times are usually 11am (every 20 mins with groups of 8 people at a time) till 5pm, at least during weekdays. Tickets purchased at recreation.gov [Note, we visited a week after Labor Day, it may be more crowded during high season. You should still check the recreation website, it has a wealth of OBX info]

Stopped with the girls to check out Bodie lighthouse on a recent girls trip. Was shocked by how beautiful and picturesque the actual lighthouse and the grounds were. We didn't get a chance to the top of the lighthouse as you need to purchase tickets in advance, but that is an option if you plan accordingly. The employees on grounds were extremely informative, friendly, and knowledgeable. We were on our way out but one of the rangers was just about to give a presentation on the lighthouse and its history. Definitely a cool little sightseeing spot for visitors and locals alike.

Really nice light house that is beautifully maintained. We got there and realized that you need to get the passes on the internet prior to arriving because there is a wait. They only send up small groups every ten minutes or so. The grounds and area around the lighthouse is beautiful. Also beware of the weather conditions because they might not allow you up or outside at the top.

Overall a pleasant visit. What a great surprise, there was a 0.4 mile scenic walk too. Great view, informative guidelines on local plants and animals. Has a bathroom and that made it extra nice.
Minh H — Google review
Wonderful experience. The grounds and lighthouse were great to view and well maintained. My one disappointment was that the beautiful 2 story house was not being utilized. We arrived and walked up the cement sidewalks (not damaging the dry and stressed grass from summer) only to discover doors locked and the bldg not assessable. We read the info board on the porch and proceeded around to the lighthouse itself. With budget cuts and costs I understand but a gift shop in a metal “prefab office box” was very disappointing, again I wish the beautiful original house could be better utilized. Overall it was a nice facility and we enjoyed the views.

The park rangers are the best of the best! So sweet and knowledgeable, I highly recommend this lighthouse if you’re nearby. Do the tour, the view is stunning from the top!
